oh, it's mostly because blobs are weak (x1.5) to blunt and resistant (x0.5) to pierce.
draugr are neutral to both types, so maces don't really have an advantage against those
you could argue they're actually worse because they're more likely to hit the walls in the same swing, applying multi-target penalty
but if you manage to only hit your target, the two weapons should be equal against draugr, and clubs are better against blobs
blobs, draugr and draugr elites~
the third is basically just a beefier draugr, shares the resistances iirc
Cause I've killed draught in two hits so im not worried at all about them
Okey so atgeir is pierce right?
Is the ultimate ability slash?
And then bows what damage do they do
a bit misleadingly, the secondary attacks always deal the same damage type as the primary attack, so the secondary is still pierce
Okey
bows primarily deal pierce damage, but they get access to some elemental damage types through arrows
pierce is commonly resisted in later biomes, probably because bows have a very powerful reputation, but that balancing measure unfortunately also hurts atgeirs, knives and spears, still those weapons work, i love atgeirs~
Interesting
Still a little confused about weakness, so for example if something has a weakness of 0.5 vs my weapon does that mean i do 0.5x more damage or less damage?
Oh
it's a multiplier yea, when i say "resistant (x0.5)" i just mean that your damage is multiplied by 0.5, aka halved
well when an enemy is weak to a damage type, it's x1.5
so +50% damage
if they're resistant it's x0.5, -50% damage
I see
very resistant is x0.25, -75%, very weak is x2, +100%
And if i do gray damage i should consider changing my weapon
if it's bothering you at least.
grey could mean immune, very resistant or resistant, but often an enemy is easily killable even with a resisted damage type
and sometimes it's just unavoidable - wraiths are resistant to all 3 physical damage types, only being more susceptible to elemental damage types which you have very limited access to at that stage, so i'd recommend just whacking them with whatever you have
(at range, fire arrows should work well though)
The only time you really need to consider changing your weapon is if you, personally, are no longer enjoying using that weapon.
Yoyo! i got a question
I think if enemy is immune to some damage type then there is no damage number to see.
Ugh.
I got a deja vue from 11 hours earlier when seeing that comment. π
shooting a stone golem with a frost staff still displays a grey 0
Really? Haven't seen any numbers and I've used the Frost staff to a trapped golem many times to level up the Elemental magic skill.
Of course, it could be the distance where it doesn't show if it is the case. Have to check once I get to my pc.
huh, interesting, it indeed doesn't show on a stone golem
but it does show when you're hitting objects with weapons, weird
moder doesn't show pure frost damage numbers either
guess i never noticed because pure elemental damage types weren't really accessible til mistlands π
but still immunity colouring damage numbers grey is relevant because f.e. if you use frostner, you have 35 blunt and 58 frost, the frost is greater on the weapon itself, so it will decide the colour of the damage number, even if the enemy is immune to frost and weak to blunt
so if you hit a stone golem with frostner, damage numbers will show as grey even though it's neutral to blunt
You tested it?
yes
Might be the case if the weapon has two different weapon types and the target is immune to either type the number shows grey. But if only one damage type and the target is immune to it then the number doesn't show.
if the damage is 0, it won't show apparently (unless it's an object for some reason, those do show 0s)
if one type is immune, it'll colour the damage number grey only if it's the dominant type
plenty of things are immune to spirit, but since spirit only takes up a small percentage of each silver weapon's damage, it doesn't affect the colour of damage numbers silver weapons get
Could it also be it doesn't show anything because it's damage per tick type of damage? Same with those targets immune to fire.
DoT is interesting because it still counts the full effect's damage on the first hit, and the actual ticks are then dealt in true damage, always showing neutral number colours
the elder is neutral to blunt and weak to fire, yet hitting it with a staff of embers shows a yellow initial hit and white subsequent hits, despite the fact that the fire tick on the initial hit (even with the weakness) is much smaller than the blunt damage - because it counts the full effect's damage.
though i do wonder what decides the colour if two damage types are equal as on the staff of embers, both are 120
Interesting really. Gotta do some testing by myself too. At least Cultists are immune to fire so could see how it shows when hitting fire based damage.
(and it's not a case of "weak" overriding "neutral". mistwalker's damage colours are decided by slash, since it's its highest damage, and if you make a fuling wet and then hit it with mistwalker, the damage number is still white from the 75 slash despite the fact that the frost hit a weakness for 87 damage)
either way, thanks for letting me know about 0 damage showing no number at all on enemies, i did not notice that yet π
i really should start actively using magic
If I remember correctly, hitting wet targets with Frostner shows the number as yellow, apparently since the frost damage portion is larger than blunt.
yes, because its base frost is higher than its blunt
mistwalker has 75 slash and 58 frost, so slash is the dominant type
but frostner has 35 blunt and 58 frost, so frost is its dominant type
Yeah no problem, there was something new for me too. π
And yes, magic is good
Just a tip: You have to actually ask the question if you want an answer.
yeah i got help my bad for not saying it lol
Yes that's what I meant too. π
oh sorry π
Don't be π€
do stars on mobs go up to 2 or 3?
just 2 stars
but each 'level' is quite a step up as it's +50% base damage and +100% base health
hello guys., im using r2modman does it auto sync my friends' mods to mine if i'm the one hosting?
#mods-issues would be better.
So I'm trying to understand the parrying mechanics from a statistic lvl.
I'm playing on very hard mode and I'm trying to parry a fuling.
Fulings do 85 damage and on very hard to 170.
I have 31 defense w/ a bucker lvl 3. (30 x 2.5 with parry (75))
So if you grab the damage a fuling does (170) subtract it by my armor (31), then subtract that by my block armor (75), that should equal a remaining damage of 64.
40% of 215 health (hare meat, seeker meat, serpent meat) is 86.
So with 86-64, I should still have a stagger of 22, right? So why does my guard break when I try and parry a fuling?
Maybe you can't perry fullings
You have the calculation order wrong.
Damage first gets reduced by block armor, then stagger gets applied, then leftover damage gets reduced by regular armor. If you're staggered during step 2 your block fails.
170 damage - 75 block armor = 95
Can i make a house where the inside fireplace has a roof and enough air to burn and not smoke the room?
Cause my friend has a fireplace and just no roof above it, so the suction is good but when its raining it doesn't burn
I had a sloped roof with a hole on a side but the fire kept switching on and off
Idk how fireplaces work
What shield are you using?
Build two wooden walls on top of each other, then add the 1m wooden beam to the corners, add two 2m laying wooden beams to those and in the end add a roof top piece.
Should work.
you don't need a chimney, you just need enough space for the smoke to collect until it despawns. A 2x2x4m shaft directly above the fire is enough for that.
Won't the smoke go everywhere then if there's no suction above
Goes everywhere until it despawns.
smoke rises up naturally, just make sure the top is enclosed
So you just need enough "everywhere" space for it to time out.
Ok
you can build a little "hood" over it so it doesn't go everywhere
What is that black material like stone?
what it actually is?
Black marble.
How does one obtain it
lol no no nooo. it's not black marble
How so?
it is fuling poop
They poop stones?
yes
look in the holes in the fuling villages
where there is black metal "chunks" and bones in them π
black marble is from mistland
They also fertilise the holes so they grow dandelions?
I was just going to ask if you were responsible of any bit of lore in game.
What are the coolest materials to build a base from are vs strongest?
That's entirely subjective vs. Ironwood.
What about stone
If you like stone, stone is cool.
I like grausten. The thinner walls are nicer IMO than stone/marble. Although marble is cool too.
Hello! I just got back into Valheim recently and killed the elder, I found a snow biome but I keep freezing and losing health
Black marble is the strongest
Where do I find clothes for that place?
i'm kinda new it's my first playthrough atleast through and through and we just made it in the snow, but i've been using a spear up to this point. What should i use instead? bonemass was so tanky lol
Oh gotcha okay! I was so confused why I was just dying
So I need leches for the frost resistance mead, theyβre found in the swamp right?
Think of the freezing effect as general warning to stay away from the mountains for now π youβll find a way forward in the next biome!
Bonemass was tanky because he's very resistant to Pierce.
If you like the spear, keep using it. Nothing wrong with it.
How to find bees
there are abandoned structures in the meadows that are the key to getting honey
So what's my go to strategy to find bees
Because not once I've seen them in my server
run around the meadows and look inside the wooden huts to find wild beehives, whitch you need to destroy. sometimes the spawns are unlucky but they're not that rare
Hm
it's always encouraged to fully explore your starter island
Any chance your other server mates grabbed all or most of the bees in your area?
I doubt that
You can hear small buzzing sound and see some small bees around the beehive. They also attack with small poison damage if too close or if you harm the hive.
Either way I've explored like 4 big meadows biomed
They can be also found in black forest.
really?
Yes. But more usually in meadows.
Some stone towers in black forest can contain beehives.
OOOH, okay! So stagger gets applied first and your armor from the damage reduction applies AFTER the block calculations are applied, not prior!
Okay, that helps a lot, thanks!
i knew it!
π©
hello. im playing on vannila no portal server and im about to move from meadows to plains. any ideas on whats the best way to transport whole base without portals ? Also is it possbile to move boars ? i dont want to part with my 2star boars π¦
Use a long ship. It got 18 slots in the cargo hold.
You can create additional space by dragging a cart on your deck as well.
If you have the Drakar, you got more cargo space. Cart fits better on it too, but the speed is somewhat less compared to a longboat.
Could drag the boars aboar the long ship with the Abysmal Harpoon, but you may loose them along the journey when you encounter a storm at the Ocean.
i heard that its unsafe to use carts on ship while on multiplayer?
On the topic of boars, more than likely youβll have to leave them behind
Why would it be unsafe? Do you have passengers you don't trust?
that cart would crash into ship damaging it
A mutiny!
First time I hear of that.
But if that happens, just make sure you got 10 wood in your inventory, dock somewhere, build a workbench, repair the ship and the cart, demolish the workbench and sail on.
I don't see the problem with that.
well im gonna try shipping a cart
Iβve seen some people load up a cart and purposely destroy it on the boat, so that all that remains is the crates. Maybe thatβs an alternative?
Don't see why it wouldn't be.
im just afraid that all the lag can cause cargo like crates and carts to damage my ship when im on sea
You mean Poison mead?
Because you need another type of cauldron (kettil) for that.
ok thx
in ther server list some servers have a key icon next to them I assume that means they need a password but every server seems to ask for a password with or without the icon. What am I missing?
In no particular order:
- The name of the server owner,
- The server owner trusting you enough to invite you in
- The password.
Can everything grow in the plains or is it just Barley and Flax ?
Everything up to the plains, yeah. But the next biome has some crops that require its home biome.
Carrots, turnips, onion- those will all grow
everything excluding mistlands stuff
Okay, so there would be no way to grow everything in the game in one area then.
Correct
you could make a farm in between the mistlands and plains
Oh right, forgot about that
Hello all, recently got back into the game after a long time away. Question are the frost caves only in the deep north or can they spawn in undiscov ered mountain biomes? Having trouble finding one. Also where do you learn Mistletoe and the wreath? I have all the other Yule itmes just missing those
That's a very good idea.
I donβt think there are any frost caves in the deep north. But yeah, undiscovered mountains should have them. They can be tricky to spot though, so keep a sharp eye out.
Youβll need red jute for the other Yule items.
I think wreath needs pine cones
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Yule_wreath this will help π
Frost caves are found in Mountain biome. There are areas of mountains in Deep North that can also contain caves but it is best to leave those areas unexplored if you want to explore the DN after it is ready to be deployed into the game, because it is certain that the terrain will not remain the same.
By my memory either or both need finewood and red jute from Frost caves.
Edit: my memory was correct.
Does thistle regrow the same way as mushrooms and berries?
Yes, it does.
How much does the fermenting process take?
2 days iirc
thats not that long π especialy if you are sleeping often
I made some tasty mead, saw it was supposed to give extra stamina regen while lowering health regen.
It lasted 10 seconds! Is that intentional?
Seems useless then? Expected about a minute at least, so you can perhaps chop some wood with it?
The uncontested best mead in the game seems useless to you?
Interesting take.
It lasts 10 second but it has cooldown of 10 seconds π so you can constantly drink it and its quite cheap, also its quite massive stamina regen boost (also you can drink normal stamina with it π )
Are you counting the bog witch potions to that ranking? π€
Honestly, yeah.
The top among those would be tied for second by comparison to infinite stamina.
I guess I was of the mindset that you consume about one mead per couple of minutes in general. Have to consider it with mass production.
But it's not useful for cutting wood, right? Only for fights?
+100% Stamina Regen
Stacks with Rested Buff.
Stacks with Lingering Stamina (normal Stam Pots are blocked by Lingering).
Effectively no cooldown.
It refills you entire stamina bar until you get into HSS or SSS at the Mistlands-tier of food or higher (where it refills like 80% of it still).
No, because why would you waste pots on farming?
With the combos yeah, i would say it is incredible, on its own... i would not call it the best while taking into account the witch potions. Tho arguably i didnt play with it much so my stance on it might change π
@frosty frost Off hand I would rank:
Tasty > Rat > Beserk
Major Healing = Lingering
because brewing up a stack of lingering stam costs less time than i save using it when mining or chopping wood. Pretty much the only one though.
If you're ranking potions in some other context besides "Used Properly" then make whatever system of judgment you deem best π€·ββοΈ
I usually dont rank anything and am quite opposed to that actually π I think whats best depends on user and their individual playstyle
In most cases of Valheim, "best is subjective" holds very true.
But like... trying to say Lingering Health Mead is good... that's a losing battle from the outset π
Even if you eat HHH or HHF Ashlands food, you're talking about +4.5 regen MAXIMUM that actually decays to worse and worse numbers every minute.
To farm faster. Be more efficient.
This isn't Satisfactory π€·ββοΈ
Ok. I should probably always use flint axe for cutting wood to avoid getting close to efficiency.
Using lower-tiered axes does help you level woodcutting faster.
Fists only it is then
Is valheim considered a taxing game for ok pc's? bc it's the only game I have problems with
Not unless you build massive.
I just mean like running around and doing anything, game always makes my pc run really hot
unless I lower my settings all the way down the game will overheat my pc after like 3 hours
PC = PC or PC = Laptop?
it's a gaming laptop but I can run any triple A game on it like all day, I'm getting an actual pc soon
so this doesn't matter but I'd still like to know incase I travel with it
im trying to tame an asksvin and it wont eat anyfood. im feeding it the right foods and hes not angry and im within range to tame it. can anyone tell me why he wont eat or why i cant start the taming process
ive tamed creatures before like wolves and boars so idk why im having a hard time getting it to work
Idk what to say then.
Because I've played for hours on one of the $300 lenovo cheapers from Amazon without issue.
But I also made sure it was always on a desk or something similar to make sure the intake fans had enough clearance.
I guess specific systems just can't run this game
I cleaned the fans out and propped it up so it has proper ventilation and that did help it for awhile
but it went back to how it was in like a month
π€·ββοΈ
bet a steam deck could last longer
Modern PCs and laptops run hotter. That's about it.
yeah and my laptop runs hot for other games but they at least stay above 80fps all day
but after an hour or 2 valheim just drops down to like 10fps and my whole pc slows to a crawl
How do i kill abominations in swamp
Quote the games referenced and the scenes where valheim is underperforming
is there a simple way to change the wisp torch radius?
Same way you kill everything else.
Whack until dead.
Slash damage is better than blunt or pierce, and it can't move or turn during any of its attack animations so you can easily dodge if you need to
does serpent attack me while hes on leash?
Hit them first (they have 10 health) or roll through their attack
Why are you naked would be my first question.
You have no spare gear?
As opposed to tightening gear?
how
Dang, beat me to it.
π
well assuming you play locally you can change the "server" settings
or world settings rather
before selecting your world you can modify the difficulty
can you teleport to items?
if you struggle you can exit and change the difficulty
can even make the world creatures passive until you attack them
How are you supposed to build roofs with grausten? Nothing matches up with the arched roof pieces...
and then have to equip each item again?
i mean how to get your items back from swamp thats quite far away xd
teleport and run?
we didnt even have time to place one
boat and run then
make no mistake, Valheim is brutal
way to much for me on default settings
you cheating?
back when I started I did after spending a week of dying in the swap and having no progress
we didn't have difficulty options at the time
swap are ez
now you can change the world settings
got destroyed in swamp with the best gear I could get
ran out of stamina to often due to the rain
what items did you have?
we have abyssal
havent played in a long time so can't remember all the items and details
lost interest again once I tried Mistlands
you died>?
once maybe? I played on casual settings at that point
think I fell to my death before I got the cape
bows are pretty op
didn't find it particularly fun to walk around in constant fog
the wisp lights only work in a small radius
think I ran out of the wood to make the torches to place down
has anyone had a co-op save has just dissapeared? we lost everything (buildings etc) but where we'd travelled was fine?
You mean like a server world?
which poi is that?
bog witch
is it important to go to?
it is another trader, so they are optional, but definitely have some things that can make your life easier the further you get through the game
I would at least drop a portal so you can check back when you defeat bosses. There is one item that helps out a lot with farming
ok thanks
how would i make a base inside of a swamp that wont get absolutely ravaged? bc theres no safe biome closeby
the safest options are to either use the bigger trees (which you can't chop down or to use a bunch of stone and a hoe to raise the ground, either way an elevated base is typically the safest
ah ok got it
Also if you are not there for most of the time its 100% safe as it isnt loaded π i usually just have lone portal somewhere
Can i multiply bees if i have one beehive?
No, you need to find new ones.
nope, you need to find more queen bees
Bruh
just look in all the buildings in the meadows
But be at ease π if you are playing alone you dont really need many of them, 2-3 are enough
(but its good practice to make as many hives as you can)
My friends have one
I need to have more than they combines
How often can one harvest it?
It generates 1 honey after roughly 20 minutes π
(faster if you sleep)
I see
4 is the max
Sure
My friends started building a mega base as today we got iron so stone unlocked
Nice π
And im still living in my little shore hut
I made the longship today, damn big upgrade
I dont really build with stone all playthrough so no worries about that π and longship will be massive help with gathering the iron
Why specifically?
Faster and way more slots
It has also lot more hp
Yep
Like for comfort or wdym?
Cause ik only in iron age and im not fitting in my hut already
And ik we will unlock many more things so how big of a base do i need
Consider one floor everything
is this the base you are planning to use for the rest of the game or just to get you through the iron age?
if i shoot a fire arrow with the draugr bow does it do poison and fire or just fire or just poison
poison and fire but I think the draugr may be immune to poison
Today i unlocked stone building, when do i unlock something stronger?
mistlands
Thinking how big i should expand my base
Still left mountain, plains idk whats after that
Expand your base when you need more space. You donβt need to build everything right now.
When you are in Mistlands.
Which is 3 biomes and 1 harder boss from where you are now. (Boss from the first biome is not that hard compared to the next one)
Well then i need to create a base building concept so its not weird blocks
If you can fit everything efficiently, it doesn't need to be huge
If you want to do that, you first have to decide if you want everything in one building, or everything in seprate buildings.
Or a building for living and a building for all crafting (wood, iron, stone, food, potions, magic).
storage and portals will be the big space consumers
The portals dont have to be an issue if you make a portal hub in different location and only have 1 portal leading there at home π
Also the storage can fit in single, not really huge building
but endgame there are 4 1/2 crafting stations (one doesn't take up much room and not super useful for crafting)
so you need room for all the stations and their upgrades
I have the metal one and workbench so far and stonecutter?
Stone cutter is the 1/2 workbench. π
you only have the workbench and forge
there is another after beating the mountain boss that I'm counting as a half
it doesn't do much for crafting but unlocks other important buildings
When can i unlock some automatic base defense stuff?
then I would have 2 hearths for cooking
Also in the Mistlands
Well totaly you get 6 workstations if we count stonecutter and ||artisan table|| <--after 4th boss workstation π
Do berries work when im not loading them?
And it won't just be auto-defence, but also auto-offence, as it will shoot at you as well.
Unless you use trophies to dedicate to fight a certain monster or simply doesn't load the weapon.
Also, the stake walls you can build almost from the start are a sort of auto defence too. You just need to repair them once in a while.
Eh?
Grow*
berry bushes will repopulate after a couple of days if that is what you are asking
if you cut them down they are gone
Yes but do i need to load then(be close to them)
Oh, yeah, tho they sometimes take a few second to load when you get to them
oh, no. you can be anywhere in the game
meadows/plains
Meadows or plains (5th biome)
I think Black Forest is quite popular too.
meadows are the safest and plains will allow certain plants to grow and process other materials faster
True, i would put it on 3rd place, and after that mistlands with mountains probably?
What's the deal with putrid holes and vegisvirs? I've now cleared 15-20 and still no tablet...
mountains gotta be the worst place to build (mechanically speaking, the aesthetics are nice)
Just bad rng π
Heh, i think i would prefer that over ashlands π
Idk building in the ashlands is pretty chill and there's at least some mechanical reason to do so
I want something like this for a base
Boy, you'd better start collecting 500K in stone. π
Hmmm
Go for it π the only limit is your imagination (and stone, true that xD)
and your pc
Whats the most effective way to mine stone
Mining copper. π
going to the plains
Also whats the durability difference between wood and stone
there are giant stone spires
Is mining ground not efficient
that is the worst
Ok
if you don't want to go to the plains, I would find the big stone boulders that look like copper
almost 4 times stronger than wood
And how do other stuff compare
The stuff from mistlands has the same durability and ashlands stuff is all over the place wih durability
fighting yagluth is great for mining stone - moder is too, but it's harder to get the stone down the mountain
The thing is; for a building like the one in the screenshot you don't need the stone for building only, but also for raising the terrain. And each 2-stone raises it "only" 2 meters. So depending at where you start you will need quite a lot of stone.
And on top of that, there's a limit to how high you can raise the land. Meaning you will have to deal with that as well, as in either start at the lowest possible point and work your way inland or accept that a part is lower and you will need to create a path that's looking great and is sloped.
And the latter is a bit complicated to achieve.
Hang on; Grausten is stronger than stone and black marble?
Some of its pieces, yes
Oh some. Like the pilars. I thought the walls were weake.
Well, some walls have 1000 and some 3000 xD
Pillars and beams are quite weak actualy
Dang! That means I need to reconsider the idea I had in mind for my main base's main building in my current play through
Look here for all the values π https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Grausten_structures
Im gonna start with something like this tmrw to get a feel, a small size castle
that should be a good pre-mistlands house, just an impractically sized garden
Yeah, you will want a bigger one π
If you really want to get a feeling about it, start a private game, with a new character and use that one to build things.
That'll help you to understand how things work, what you can (and can't) do and how to solve the problems you surely will encounter.
Nah i prefer to improvise as i go
Il make a floorplan in paint and start building, it will probably look terrible but for the first base will suffice
My friends have the edge on me tho
Because you will make mistakes, you will have to rebuild things and you will occasionally get frustrated when things keep collapsing without you understanding the how and why.
And I say this from my own experience, despite not even having build something as good looking as what you posted in those screenshots.
They already started big and working together
And why aren't you working with them? Or they helping you?
We explore and fight together but i like to be the man of my own house
Additionally i feel like they generally are more practical than tasteful when doing creative work so living in the same base would be slightly inconvenient
Besides awe are advancing slightly differently
They rush ahead and i catch up, i play more but i waste more time exploring or building or whatever while they are working together and progressing fast
And i want to be able to flex
When do I unlock brown roofs?
Shingle
plains, from tar pits
Looking at those screenshots those buildings are build for beauty, not for going through the game.
Practical doesn't have to look dull, but it shouldn't be considered more important as beautiful.
Am i able to sneak into plains and mine that and run away from any enemies? Or is that guaranteed death?
Pre mounting biome
That's very likely a guaranteed funeral
you definitely can, but it depends on your ability to dodge deathsquitos
Yeah they can be annoying π but they are the textbook definition af glass cannon, insane dmg but abysmal hp
So did I, hence my comment
If im in full iron armour can i durvive the mosquitos
There is one armor piece that counters very well against the squitoes.
Almost 3am here, im so dead tmrw
Which is
possibly, but killing the abomination will give you access to armor best against the mosquitos
Oooo go on
The chest piece of root armor gives you resistance to pierce dmg, so it halves it π
Sick how many abominations do i need to kill
1 abom drops 5 root and one armor piece require 10
What things should i invest in first with iron
The wiki shows exactly what you need, how much and what upgrade level a crafting station should be.
Most will say a pickaxe. After that most likely your main weapon and a shield if you use that.
But in practice donibgo for pick first or maybe armour, assume il head back for more iron to the cryptd and swamp
Epic
Gn tired very
First 10 iron goes to nails.
Without exception.
Nails -> Buckler -> Mace
Would be "optimal" imo
Buckler whats that
Small shield specialized in parrying
Can i use it with atgeir?
or banded shield if you aren't great at parrying
Banded shield is fine too
No.
Then no shield for me
If you aren't good at parrying, either learn to roll or build tower shield.
Atgeir secondary also good defensive option.
How do tower shields work
there are a lot of forge upgrades with iron
Just block, no parry.
But atgeirs are solid at parrying anyway so if you like the weapon just keep it.
Wha would they use tower shield if they said no to bucklers with the reason of using atgeir?
Comment was for the other person.
Tower shields also have significantly higher block force (knockback) than other items
Gn ty yall for education

how long does it take to extract 10 sap from a root? i have everything i need in the mists but sap
it should extract sap every 60 seconds (that is while the root is full i believe tho)
oh. i was thinking it would tkae days. lol
Ah, wiki says this: "Each root dries up as Sap is extracted from it using a Sap Extractor. Each Sap Extractor collects and stores one sap every 60 seconds. Multiple sap extractors can be placed on one Ancient Root. The reservoir of sap in an ancient root regenerates at a rate of 1 sap per 400 seconds, up to a maximum storage of 50 sap. Thus, sap is a renewable resource." https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Ancient_Roots
5.5 hours to renew, and almost an hour to dry up. that's........ pretty nice!
Its usually a good idea to find a place with multiple roots in one place π you will need somewhat large ammount of it
also you can place multiple extractors on one root. it'll naturally dry up faster, but also extract faster
...just noticed that was already mentioned
Ah, then I'm camping out at the spot where there are three roots right next to each other, I can go and research the crafting recipes while I wait
you don't have to stay there, most timer-based things in the game (except taming and breeding animals) effectively still progress while you're elsewhere in the world
hey, did valheim use to be on gamepass?
Yep.
ahh. wanted to pick it back up & saw i didnt have it anymore on xbox lol
makes sense
Got a question. is Valheim like Minecraft, insofar as running a singleplayer local game is laggier than a multiplayer game hosted on an external server? if so, is the difference noticeable?
basically does anyone know the % of ram/cpu used to do server-based stuff, which I could offload to an external server - including the initial loading time?
I have a terrible machine. I called it a potato, until I upgraded the RAM. now it's more like, a watermelon. but it still has just 2 cores, so it is quite bad, but actually playable, after the 20 minute load time for mods. If I got a server, I might get more playability, as well as play with friends.
So, statistics question relating to parries (again). Does armor only effect the post parry stagger meter and not the active parry stagger meter?
In other words, is block armor (if above armor rating) the only defining factor if you successfully parry (other then health and stamina ofc)
yes, it's more resource intensive, but not much more. if you're running a slow machine, then you may notice better performance running a server, but it's not going to be night and day.
Ah, I see. In Minecraft I notice a clear difference, but you're saying here, won't be quite the same? Gotcha.
yes, because minecraft isn't a p2p server if you run it off a dedicated machine
Doesn't help I attach a lot of mods to it tbh, but I got a fair few I like to keep on my game.
valheim, no matter what you do, is still p2p oriented
Ah, I see. So the local enemy ai etc. is actually generated by clients, and sent among each other?
yes, and terrain data as far as i understand
I see, ok, good to know. That probably explains why it's not as severe a boost in performance.
the server just acts like central storage unit of info, not a server taht generates that information
there are mods that increase performance of valheim, and a config boot edit that does as well (supposedly)
Any specific ones to recommend?
i've never used the performance ones, so no, but let me see if i can find the boot edit
Also yes, Googling P2P, I'm seeing both developer. Denial, and articles slamming the P2P infrastructure, so yeah, seems a ell established thing, even if the devs are denying it.
the dedicated servers work pretty well if people are in the same country-ish range
but me being west coast USA, and playing with UK/German people, the handshaking that it does when it passes off "host" of an area is rough
Ah, all UK, so should be good! π hard to hear it's not as good though. It does seem like it just is the worst of p2p as a server setup. Not seeing a lot of. Faith they'll change their ways though, sadly.
i highly doubt it, they pretty much have stated that this is how things are π
i am glad they at least put out dedi servers though
Blocking sheet, pinned in #valheim-chat
README section
I wrote a line-by-line of what the game does when you attempt to block, including which armor is factored when.
Didn't notice that, thanks!
Recommend you open the sheet on an actual PC and not mobile.
Lol, roger. I'm already on PC, I'm checking it out now π«‘
i know you answered this yesterday... but yes, it still wont work for me lol
Is Iron the worst stage? These Crypts are rough even with following peoples advice lmao
Draugr are smoking me. Poison isn't bad with potions.
As rough as crypts are, there are area's later in the game that are incredibly rough as well. Meadows and the Black Forest are easy mode in comparison
I'd say that the Swamp is a massive curve in difficult though. A average draugr is about as strong as a 2 star skeleton!
I'd suggest making healthy meals and a good shield for blocking/parrying. Draugr's aren't weak to any particular type of damage, so just bring the best weapon you got.
Yeah lmao I can manage, but it is veeerrrry slow and the crypt rooms with spawners in them are a pain in my rear.
Does dying, in a way, nerf my damage?
I'd say swamps are the most tedious biome in the game
If you're playing with no modifiers
you lose 5% of your skills
I use mainly axe and shield.. bronze. With my skill lowering is it making me weaker?
Yes.
Yikes
Keep in mind if you die many times in a short period you won't lose skills
This is just my preference. But the spear is a good option if your comfy with parrying, as they're low stamina cost weapons for solid damage. I honestly use the flint spear in the swamp.
What's your food?
You can also try voyaging to find a turtle and get a dagger from there shell
Been using the jam, carrot soup I think, annnnd beef jerky? lol
Problem located.
Food is unquestionably the most important stat in this game.
Gear is secondary.
Those are high stamina foods. I may recommend Deer stew, meet stew, and cooked dear or another alternative food item
The issue I am facing is the time it takes to get the materials for these higher foods. Am I not spending enough time hunting or something?
I recommend the food sheet that is pinned next to the blocking sheet π
Configurations tab has everything one needs.
I do have a boar farm though
LOL yeah, Sevrahn knows whats up xD
If something taking time is an issue for you... this is not a game you will enjoy on any level.
Preparation is key.
And preparation takes time.
The game is grind, followed by exploration, followed by more grind.
Repeat x8 biomes.
So I should go foraging and deer hunting until I got at least a chest full is what you are saying lol
And then you die, lose your portal and need to get your stuff back naked.
I have been taking extreme measures to avoid this as much as I can lmao
It's not a bad idea to setup some things in advance however. Maybe consider taming starred creatures or marking key spawn points on the map
Understanding spawn mechanics can greatly help with killing the grind if you know what to look for
Did do this with boars, and plan to do with wolves. I got a ton of no star wolves atm tho
For now? Yes.
Because in doing that you'll get a better handle on what is worth stockpiling and what isn't.
Also you're in Swamp. You need to find Turnips ASAP.

Okay, that's good. For deer, there isn't a super easy solution, but I often like to make my bases over what was a forest. As deer spawn in forests and black forests. If you clear out the trees, the deer will still spawn where the trees were. Making them wide open for free kills!
The fun words after my name sort of translate to me being good with spreadsheets π
Given I have written like 4 of them at this point.
Turnips you say.. another thing to add to my farm? Was in distress when I found out you can
HAHAH, it is indeed a fancy spreadsheet! I'm trying to figure it out, I'm kinda testing stuff in game as well
cannot plant berries**
Turnips are a major food upgrade in multiple ways.
Figure out which one?
Will get on this. I got a "main base" set just between a black forest, meadows, and mountains biome
Oh, just the spreadsheet as a whole. I don't often look at spreadsheets
Which one?
What should I be spending my first bit of Iron on to improve things? As of now I just made a longship to transport heaps of metal and then a stone cutter. I got about 3 stacks more of iron or so.
Like I said I have written multiple.
Valheim Blocking - by Sevrahn
First 10 iron goes to nails. Without question.
Health Thresholds tab.
Type your desired info in the top right.
Keep in mind that Capitalization Matters In Those Boxes.
Sheet will auto-update.
And after that? I know that Iron is needed in heaps and heaps so wondering if I just make pickaxe, whats needed for bench upgrades, and save rest?? Armor idk
I think that kinda varries imo. For more experienced players, I'd say the first 3 should go into making a iron cooking station
Also depends on difficulty you are playing on.
You don't need the pick for a good while.
Nails > Buckler > Mace > Forge Upgrades would be my recommendation.
As an experienced player... Boat > All
Why Mace?
I meaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. LOL I guess as a OVERLY CAUTIOUS player that plays on very hard
Cooking comes first
Boss weak to blunt.
And it carries you through all of Mountain easily.
Seeker Meat, Hare Meat, and Serpent Meats is π
Simplest weapon progression through the game is:
Wooden Club -> Iron Mace -> Blackmetal weapon of personal choice -> Mistwalker or switch to Magic -> Ashlands weapon of personal choice.
Not Frostner?
I can be a wizard in this game?
Fuck Frostner.
They nerfed it to shit and I will never touch it again because they aren't changing it back.
Oh? When did they nerf it?
Long time ago.
They added NFL punter knockback to it.
My weapon shouldn't prevent me from killing my enemies.
Originally it had similar knock to the Wooden Club. And it was perfect.
Time zones makes it funky sometimes where we both never are online at the same time.
For Xbox, the network setting need to be crossplay. Else it will not work at all
The views and opinions expressed by Sevrahn in the previous statements do not reflect those of Irongate Studios or the general consensus of the Valheim community.
Can you guys tell me more how the stamina and health meads work? Are they 10 minutes like poison? 5 second health things? a burst?
Health meads are 10s and have a 2 min CD.
Stamina meads suck because Tasty Mead exists.
Okay, yeah. I can see that. I was thinking a while back that the knockback was larger then I thought. Though that was around the time mistlands was released and it'd been a while since I last played. So I wasn't sure if they changed the knockback or if I was remembering it wrong.
If I want massive knockback, that is what 2-handed hammers are for.
Yeah, honestly! Speaking of, I had been sleeping on those hammers. They're honestly so useful for the swamp!
and for clearing out crypts
Demolisher makes you nearly untouchable in Ashlands with the amount of space it provides.
Hmmm, haven't tried it in the ashlands yet. I just entered the ashlands for the 2nd time on another playthrough. Perhaps I'll try it out then.
how rare is this wtf
Like 5% rare iirc?
It is your world.
You are the sole person in charge of "should I?".
Do it, kill the troll!
(I've only ever seen 1 2 star troll. They're only rare because you can only spot starred trolls in the first place 2000m out from spawn.)
HELL NO
Knockback of Frostner is easily manageable in
- fighting multiple enemies at once where you can keep hitting with primary hit combos but just hit different targets when one gets knocked, or
- against single target where you can hit once and when target gets slowed by frost you can get closer and hit with secondary attack.
It is easily one of the best one handed weapon for crowd control and survivalibity and it keeps its relevance during 3 biomes after Mountain.
I did clarify that my opinion on it is mine alone.
Of course. I just gave my 2 cents where knockback is manageable/useful.
I used to dislike knockback of 1h maces before. Now clubs are easily one of my favorite weapon types.
It's useful on 2-handed hammers. π
It's annoying af and counter-productive on 1-handed maces.
1% for a 2*.
Fair.
It's basically 10% per level so 10% of 10%.
should i make the upgrade from karve to longship ? am not on the sea very often π
Your world.
You are the sole person who decides what you should and should not do.
Is my boat at risk of being destroyed by enemies while i am in a sunken crypt? Say the boat is parked next to the crypt, trying to understand how loading works in this game
While you are in the crypt, no. You're far enough away that nothing outside is really moving.
But overall I don't advise parking in the Swamp.
Adjacent biome.
Use a portal that you can move from crypt to crypt for mining and removing all non-iron materials.
Leave the iron itself in the crypts in the closest room that has a chest to the entrance.
Once you have cleared all crypts in the swamp, go get your Eikthyr power and do a sprinting run of just grabbing your iron one crypt at a time and running it back to the boat.
Sail the entire haul back in 1 shot.
Why do you suggest this method instead of parking relatively close to the swamp on the ocean side and heading into crypts and back again until i loot all shore crypts?
Risk of losing boat for one.
Additionally whats the use of iron bones?
There is no such thing as iron bones.
Then some kind of visually long iron sticks from the crypts
Withered bones?
Yes
What did you use Ancient Seeds for?
I don't collect them
You had to use them.
For what?
I didn't
Are you not killing any bosses?
My friends summoned the bosses i am just a companion lol
πΆββοΈ

Sure. After all the correspondence you've seen me have with other people.
All the information, advice, and pointing to spreadsheets full of helpful facts...
Yeah. I'm a huge troll...
πββοΈ
Let's say in non-spoilery way that you need some withered bones for progressing the game.
To kill the 3rd boss, yeah
To summon
Have you even fought one of the bosses?
I fought the lightning deer and elder with my two friends and i fought the deer boss solo too
But I've slain like 20trolls solo
In that case, I suggest you do the Elder solo too, so you know what it's like to fight him.
After that, find a nice "friendly" biome near the swamp you're in, set up a small dock, house and portal and use that to explore the swamp in the way Sevrahn proposed.
Or drop 2 chests in that place, drop all the iron in there and use the longboat once they are full to transport your iron back.
The last thing you want happening is leeches trying to attack you while you're in / on the boat, without a nearby workbench to repair the damage.
And docking in the swamp just does that; asking for your boat to be destroyed.
Welcome to my world.
Are you a one star or a two star? π
But i can park, drop a workbench head right inside the crypt within 2mins of parking and come out with the stuff in two goes and swim off to the next one, rinse and repeat
Because my swamp is next to plains and ocean, nothing more
So you picked the wrong swamp
And plains I've already had a warm welcome from deathsquitoes
First one didn't have a single crypt
Just some witch hut
The elder was annoying to fight tho, i kept spamming him with fire arrows and rolling constantly from a range
And his black root/cloud thingy attacks had a big hitbox
There's more than one swamp in this game. And I'm certain your friends didn't loot all of them.
If they did, you may ask them why they didn't leave any goods for you.
There are more swamps out there, you just need to find one with a Black Forest or Meadows biome next to it. Even a small, half grid piece is enough.
But if you think that's a waste of time and your method is better, so be it.
I'm sure that people having over 1,5K or even over 2K hours in this game don't know anything about it.
Oh, wait, I forgot to add the "/s" to that last line.
I'm not trying to be rude and I am thankful for the wisdom, but I also want to have my own opinion weighted, sometimes i go with y'all's suggestions but if i think i can get away with my strategy because i might not need 30stacks of iron, maybe just 90iron will suffice
Me and my friends loot together for the first time, but afterwards i want to stack up on metals because I'm usually the one getting mats while they defend or explore, and we split it 3ways
Play how you want, you will figure out sooner or later that you have enough or not enough, in my experience itβs never enough but getting a big haul early can last you till even the plains or mistlands depending on how much iron you use
Dude finds the bog witch on first attempt and is disappointed.
I think the bigger issue is that his friends are doing all the fun stuff and he's left to fend for himself.
Can anyone give me a tip about vineberrys farm? I feel like i am doing something wrong. Whats the most efficient way to get them growing?
90 iron won't be enough.
Just to give you an impression:
Iron axe requires 80 iron to craft and upgrade to the max;
Iron pickaxe requires 80 iron to craft and upgrade to the max;
Forge requires 35 iron to craft and upgrade to lvl 5
Stone cutter requires 2 iron
Weapons between 40 and 80 iron to craft and upgrade to maximum;
Shields need 20 or 25 iron to craft and fully upgrade to maximum;
If you use heavy armor, you should add this as well:
Helmet: 50 iron for craft and maximum upgrade;
Iron scale mail: 50 iron to craft and maximum upgrade;
Iron greaves: 50 iron to craft and maximum upgrade.
So if you use the light armor, you will need between 257 and 302 iron for tools and weapons; depending at your preference.
If you use heavy armor you will need between 407 and 457 iron to get the same.
And that's only for the Swamp.
And not even included some of the upgrades to cooking that need iron too.
So it may be close to 500 iron instead.
You will need iron in other biomes to craft machines, weapons, armor as well.
And the only source outside the swamps is the Mistlands, so you will have to do with what you find right now.
But 90 iron isn't enough for sure. I can guarantee that right here and right now.
From what I understood in the previous days, it's a bit his own choice.
They are bugged a bit, so its hard to actually farm them, the best way is still probably going around ashlads and finding them there
You may have planted them too close to one another. The vines tend to grow up and sideways, so at some point, one vine is blocking the growth of the other one and vice versa.
How much space should i keep?
Every second wooden wall?
I think one on each of the legs of that cross may work. But even that might be close.
Or should i just plant them infront of the middle wall, if there are 3
Kinda like that, yes.
Okay, ill keep testing. I ran out of seeds, need to farm some more then. Ill get seeds from just picking vineberrys, right?
yup.
Can you guys show me some of your vineberry farms plz? π
What you also can do is create a "test world", use Devcommands on it to build walls and spawn in the seeds and use any character (Like a different one) to plant the seeds there to see what works.
And once you found a satisfying solution, use the world from the screenshot to use that method.
The only vineberry farm I made had the same problem you have. So I doubt it'll do you much good to see a screenshot of that. π
Okay, ill try around. Ive just to look up all those commands.
But i can let them grow on both sides of the wall, right?
Damn, thanks for the big picture, i was looking for just getting lvl 1 atgeir, axe and pick off of the trip
When should I use heavy armour?
That's also true
Honestly if you have max bronze armor and bronze axe youβll be fine just getting a max iron pick and weapon / shield of your choice
Save the rest of the iron for the upgrades and the boat
Does it make any sense to bring stonecutter here to break this tower for stone?
Heavy armor is only something I would consider in the mountains and mistlands, the plains don't count because they don't have light armor
Hello, can I ask something ? I have built an aerial docking station for my boat, and my concern is the following: when I try to built it on top from the air (I dont have the mats on my bag) it turns red which means the boat would not build. But when I press Shift the boat seams buildable. Will it build or not with Shift ?
The shift allows you to build it even if you are not pointing on water atm, you still need materials for it π
so if I have the materials (obviously) I will be able to build it in this position
Yepp π
also do you think this skeleton will work ? π . I think it will hold the boat but I have never tried it
I dont see why it wouldnt π
I can not find a single sentence about something like this on the Wiki (or other places). I thought the limit was 1 leviathan per ocean. Have I understood it wrong?
There's a chance two will spawn next to one another, there's a much smaller chance to have three spawn next to one another.
I s'pose that's why it's not mentioned, as the chance to have that is pretty tiny.
i just bought the game should i download any mods before playing?
"They have 1% chance of appearing on each full Ocean zone and require at least 30 meters depth." this is from wiki π
Is there maybe a strategy how I can perfectly level this land, i want to raise it just above the maximum water level when it floods or big waves crash etc
No, why would you?
maybe use beams to walk on while leveling
Stay in one place and perfectly lvl as far as you can reach, move a bit while staying on the leveled ground and repeat
oh so I level based on the height that I am?
That will not work, the leveling function will still lvl to the height of the ground the beam is above
Yes, tho while holding shift it will level to the height you are looking at
Just stay in place, dont hold shift and level π
would have to place the first beam on ground at desired height
And how is that beneficial to just being on the ground itself?
The beam does literally nothing
seemed to me that standing directly on the ground can cause small variance in leveling, but i'm still kinda new to know for sure
and OCD about it lol
Thats why i did say to stay in one place, that way you will level the whole area to the height you are standing at and then you can move
good idea
and you will have to level the ground multiple times for it to be perfectly flat
so 3-4 clicks on yeach spot you are looking at
good to know that
Btw it might not look perfectly flat if you have one graphic setting on (i think it was tasselation?) it changes the visual a bit but it should still be perfectly flat
I'm usually zooming out to the max when leveling and often tilt the camera to horizontal view to check if the ground is flat.
Even when doing that, I noticed you can't get it perfectly flat all of the time, but it will certainly help a lot when doing it that way.
To me, the only way to get a perfectly flat area, is simply building a wood or stone / Black Marble floor over it.
does valheim use tessellation?
There is setting for it so i believe so, yes π
oh just read your message lol
thanks, worked perfectly!
Anyone know why valheim was removed from gamepass?
The contract ended i believe
I purchased the barber Kit from Hildir but I can't find the barber Station in the Crafting tab?
Have you made bronze nails?
yes, but somehow it's in the Furniture tab, not in the Crafting, wtf
I found it, but it''s in the wrong tab? is it a bug?
Well you dont craft anything there...
no, that is the correct tab
Hmm, will loook into it
Do the flametal ore towers repop?
no
They're reworks of the Leviathans that we mine chitin from. Once they're gone, they're gone.
can you stack resistances?
will drinking a poison or frost res mead provide more if I already have a forst or poison res cape?
No, only the highest resistance applies, so if you have poison resist from root mask (50% less dmg taken) and poison resist from poison mead (75% less dmg taken) the mead resistance is the one game counts
oh, how do I know which one is higher tho? I didn't even know those two were different strengh
Usually resistances halve the dmg you take, this is the only example i can think of right now that has different value π
and you can always check wiki if you really want to know
i think the tooltip usually says "very resistant" (x0.25) vs just "resistant" (x0.5), also pretty sure at least right now it's consistently always the case that the temporary duration item (mead) is stronger and overrides (doesn't stack, just uses the higher resistance reduction for the duration) the permanent effect clothing items
There's resistant/weak and then there's 'very'.
Resistant/weak halves or doubles damage, 'very' halves or doubles again
So, -50%/+50% damage, then -75%/+75% damage; then what @frosty frost said about highest applies
Yes but that isn't written anywhere in both the items
Every item (edit: that has a modifier) is either "weak"/"resistant" or "very weak"/"very resistant" as far as I know.
One thing I haven't tried yet - If I destroy the walls that vines are attached to, do they drop their berries?
This is alot better now π
looks great π
Glad to see your attempts work out.
I hope you're able to get vine berries from them as well.
Yeah, i looted em allready, worked pretty well π
You're using darkwood standing thingies instead of wood walls now?
ashs wood or whatever its called, that one from ashlands
i like the look π
They certainly look nice. And if it works, that's a win-win.
I'll show again once the vineberrys grown again
You're glad someone is succeeding?
Do you even Discord? ππ
Well, considering I offered some help earlier and seeing that things work out, yeah. I'm glad.
Even if that means I'm the only soul having a good feeling of something done over discord this year. After all, there's always one exception to a rule. π
this is how my farm looks like π
beautiful π
Thorin Oakshield, Exception
Get Smiffe to change your name π
I'm embarrassed to say that it never occurred to me to build a wall around an existing farm for use with vines. Bravo you
i only did it recently before this I was using the walls of an fortres
but it was too small for my needs so i moved them here
More people need to offer base tours. It'd be fun to see how other brains realise their bases.
Do they also grow on black marble?
Afaik all wall pieces should work. At least I've grown ivy on my Asksvin farmer hut which is made of Black marble.
I know many people build like a village, but i do like one big building for everything xD
I think my bases have undergone some convergent evolution. Discovering what works, where things are best built, managing floor-space, comfort levels, all that stuff. It'd be amazing to see other solutions.
You built a meeting room?
gaming set up
Ah ok.
i have 4 diffrent buildings in my base
I did once build a house around a vesvigir, and turned it into a TV for the home.
Sorry, I missed that because there's only one monitor and it appears to be in 4:3. π
could make an ultra wide with the half wall piece
Oh shit! I built a sports arena in another game instance and I forgot all about it! Let me log on and I'll post a pic or two.
I feel like some witch fermenting meads
so i made it through the snow and now im in the plains, but my biggest struggle currently is moving this lox. Does anyone know how to move a lox if i dont have a saddle?
thought those were bulbs on a line
looks nice, like a stadion π
It's a tamed lox?
it sure isss
You can move them by luring them with cloudberries, but that's pretty slow and you have to pick up the berry before it gets eaten, or you have to wait for the 'Hungry' tag again. Just make a saddle is my advice.
i do believe im gonna go on the hunt for the saddle lol thank you
Do I have to be inside of the raid circle for the raid to stop or can I just wait it out?
You have to be inside.
The timer only ticks while you're in the circle.
except wolf raid, i've read according to wiki, the timer ticks down in circle or not--never tested it myself; also technically you can also end it by just not coming back until ANOTHER raid triggers elsewhere, which 'overwrites' (just ends) the last raid
again, info from Wiki I read but never personally tested
Interesting... maybe worth testing.
can i deconstruct the longboat like Karvem, so materials drop?
sort of--it drops all materials, but you have to break it manually by attacking it
and also, be sure you're in shallow enough water because the nails sink
(I'm an idiot, here's the correct response) Boats, carts, battering rams require destroying - as opposed to deconstructing with the hammer. There may be more, but I don't know them.
And the catapult(?)
For boats, I've found the easiest recovery is to find the bearing that allows you to drive a boat into the coast under wind, and destroy it as you go to have it fall apart in shallow-enough water to recover all the materialas.
what iron things do i need? im on swamp yet
1st iron pickaxe
2nd iron nails for boat
why not armor first?
just so u mine faster. maybe if u struggle a lot with enemy go for armor first. just about what u need i guess
Itβs up to you, really, but most players like building a longboat first.
3rd (presuming you've found Hildir) an iron to steam the wrinkles out of your newly found clothes.
im playing with a friend so how many iron do we need? around 300?
if u wanna go full iron armor and upgrade etc, a loooot
iron is an important resource in this game that u even use later on
but around?
Start with like 200 id say
Raid like 6-8 crypts, usually about a swampsβ worth. Bring it back, check out the new stuff, then plan for another raid and get what you need.
150x iron for full upgraded armor set so yea 300x at least for that
its worth to upgrade?
Debatable, but imo I would do level 2 or 3.
Your criterion is entirely subjective. How much iron you 'need' is entirely dependant on what you want to do with it.
tbh i only get upgraded iron helmet and use root armor chest
Is there a better wall than black marble yet?
In terms of health? I donβt think so
which is better amror root or iron?
Yea, guess thats it
Most will tell you root armor. But iron isnβt bad.
u just get root chest for the pierce resistance
All I can tell you is that I have no interest in rooting in iron armour.
if you're new and arent facerolling enemies, just go for full iron
Iron armor looks cooler anyways π
root set is 24 defense and each piece of iron gives you 14 def
what are the best melee weapon types for very hard playthrough?
Root has no movement speed penalty, and it gives a bonus to archery and poison resist. Also, the noteworthy pierce resist Is huge.
atgeir
why? spin
does it insta stagger?
ya
so im quite new and should i go more iron?
Yep
Grab yourself like 200 iron and get it back home, thatβs a good start π
With due respect to the desire to learn, tonight's questions are clearly coming from positions that have made no effort into learning how the game works.
is 1k wood enough to build i large sized wood base?
and also stagbreaker/demolisher very good
stagbreaker allows you to clear burials safely early on
and also makes it easy to kill swamp blobs without poison resist pot
how many slots are on long ship?
Hmm Iβd say like a medium sized base?
Way more than the karve lol
but how many xd
18
Sorry, didnβt know the number off the top of my head π
its fine
Can the stag breaker still be used to find where silvers at before bonemass
Tired of waiting for my friends and would rather swing a stagbreaker around than do nothing
Yep
Why would i have to save my game? I always come back in the same spot i logged out?
logging out automatically saves
Ah great
even altf4?
afaik yes
not sure if closing it through the task manager does though
i'd imagine not π
yea
Is bonemass annoying to fight in any way?
Only if you don't have blunt damage and poison resistance
How would my ideal set look? Heavy armour and mace?
Any armor will do, but you'll want a shield to go with that mace
Since im gonna be fighting upclose, heavy iron armour is a must?
Of course not. Only if you're taking unblocked hits
Don't want to get oneshot in my troll set
You won't be, I've fought him with troll armor
Have you killed a serpent? Serpent meat and stew are both very powerful health foods
You could make root armor if you want something stronger that won't slow you down too much
My friends don't want to deal with abominations and idk how to solo that thing nor how it works
Fighting an abomination with bronze is much easier than fighting a troll with flint
I have iron, but idk what strategy is good
Fire arrows probably cause they are slow
But the thing has 800hp thats like 120arrows probs
Parry it and use a slash weapon such as an axe or sword. If you have a surtling spawner nearby, keep it over that.
he can be surprisingly difficult yea, just make sure you have poison resist up and disengage a bit if hp getting low
his swings can hurt af
Yep would he go back or keep chasing me
keep chasing but hes slow and you can kite around the skull altar
make sure to flatten ground around the area before starting
Good tip
Hello everyone, I've heard from a friend that if we get a dedicated server up and running that we would need to start all over on a fresh map, (new save)
Is this true? and if so, is there any way to transfer save files so that we could continue our current world?
Appreciated
Depends on how bad your eyes and reflexes are.
He has 3 extremely telegraphed moves. Once you know them he is a zero damage fight and one of the easiest bosses in the game.
noted
You can transfer in a current world.
#dedicated-server best place for info.
how much iron would an average person spend in a playthrough?
There is no way to answer that question.
i just need an idea of how much i should get
i dont want to be mining iron for a while
Do you plan to build with iron wood beams and poles?
1,000 is a good, round number.
nah just equipment and industry
then 2 longships worth should be good enough, add third and you really should be ok
1,000 is a good, round number.
Yep π
But I fully understand choosing 900 given it stacks in 30's.
As does 1080 π and it fits exactly into 2 longships
Fair.
I have a problem. I have a server on Gportal. I want to register as an admin on my server. I do this but every time I open devcommands it says I'm not an admin^^
is the plains boss hard
Don't forget you can also transport at least 30 iron in your inventory.
So two ship trips will add another 60 iron.
Silver Sword + Fire Resist Mead.
how did i just get hit for 43 with a root chest on by a mosquito
jeez i guess they will always hurt
Is the silver sword or frostner better at the same skill level?
Silver Sword is BiS for Yagluth.
yes, but if you prepare enough its managable
||or if you cheese it its a breeze||
I would say "no" it is not hard.
Every boss is cheeseable
I think V alheim is the only game that put my PC under so much intensive workload that even my youtube videos freeze.
Is that normal...?
I mean I have an RTX 3080 and an AMD 5900X with 32GB of RAM
alright, if you are on a flametal spire, and it sinks into the lava and you DIE, how do you get your gear back? Is there a way?
smoke bombs
sorry, meant basalt bomb
when you throw it at the lava, it will create a platform to jump on
Basalt bombs can be used to create small platforms when thrown into lava, its main purpose is to reach Flametal ore veins.
The basalt platform created will float in or above the lava for 30 seconds before beginning to sink into the lava at a slow rate.
COOL! thank you!
ive died far from home with most of my stuff... anyone know where i can get some helpto get it back? :)
you can try to use some old armor/weapons or craft new ones temporarily to recover your stuff
if you are still unable to get it and don't have a friend to join in and help you get it, you can go to this reddit page:
https://www.reddit.com/r/BodyRecoverySquad/
cool thanks ill try a post. dont have anyone who can help, made the mistake of going near the plains without enough armour
what kind of gear did you have?
you can actually kill him just ||by walking circles around him and hitting him as your stam allows. As long as you stay at his back (may need Fenris armor or ratatosk mead) he'll constantly try to turn to face you and never attack||
bronze items, troll hide armor, longship π€£
Easier with a couple people
nah if someone's in front he'll actually use his abilities and those are all AoE
you might actually have to dodge a fire nova then
How long would it take to get there from your closest portal? I am in Mistlands
so my gear is OP
not sure, 5 or 10min possibly? this is how far i was
Is there a portal there?
you died in water?
yeah on the boat so i think the gear will be ok?
tombstones float so your gear will be okay regardless
and enemies don't do stuff when you're not around so your boat should be fine too
you need a boat to get to your boat...
Raft.
at least make it a karve
unlucky storm while sailing there and you're right back at the beginning π
ok ill make a karve and try again
Put a Raft inside a Drakkar for double sail speed. π
dont even know what a drakkar is :D
Boat that is about 3 rafts long and 2 rafts wide.
That is is the exact oposite of what would happen...
if i get a portal nearby would someone be able to get rid of the mosquito for me pls ? π€£
no need to make it complicated - log out, switch on the passive enemies world modifier, get your gear and switch it back off. Same effect, less hassle.
ohh good idea thanks
my freinds cant join my game, and i cant join his, but we can both join other people games, crossplay is enabled, hes on xbxo, im on PC(steam), but it wont work, I've tried everything, are any of you experincing the same thing, or does anyone have a soultion?
A couple things that come to mind - do you have any mods? Do you have different modifiers enabled in the menu (not sure if this means you can't join if the modifiers don't match)?
no mods, when he tries to join it says failed to resister join code or something and i tell him the exat code, and when i try to join him, it says failed to connect after waiting a bit, and we cant join eachother on any world at all
but i can join any other random game and so can he
we used to be able to play toegther all the time back in the day when valheim was on gamepass, and a few weeks ago i bought it on steam and bought it on xbox, and we tried to fix it for a few hours watching totorials, and now he suggested i ask the discord
ymir flesh for weapons later?
Megingjord = must buy
Thunderstone = required for the trash can
Ymir is for Frosnter (meh, imo) and Iron Sledge
Dverger Circlet is solid if you don't want to carry torches into crypts/dungeons.
Only thing I don't buy from him is eggs tbh.
ok i buy 2 belts and thunderstone then
i pretty much never bother with iron sledge (the next place after swamps i want a 2h hammer is Mistlands which has Demolisher) but frostner is worth crafting imo just to make your initial Mistlands entry easier.
Solid.
thx
yeah definitely belts first if you don't have them already
can i teleport orbs through the portal the one to craft forges
Orbs? Surtling cores you mean?
yes
yes, you can teleport most things that aren't metal
If it doesn't have the little symbol, you can teleport it.
can i make farm of those orbs in swamps?
yes
dig a little bit under spawner
You get tons of them in the Black Forest π€·ββοΈ
the fire geysers spawn surtlings every 5 (i think) minutes
link a bunch of those together with portals and you'll have all the cores and coal you need.
I haven't played cross platform, but I'm guessing there's a button for this to make sure it's on?
nah, if you've been away for long enough they spawn as soon as you port in.
So if you make a chain of portals connecting fire geysers you're basically just walking from portal to portal while collecting surtling cores and coal in between.
what is the best to use in Obliterator
