The only trees i actively farm are oaks, beech are too common to be worth bothering with and pine doesn't drop enough seeds to be self sustaining.

everything else i just land on a random island somewhere, slap down a portal and go to town

Best way to farm trees is to place them as close to each other as possible, having a gentle hill can also help and then starting from top of hill and working your way down @delicate condor

Unfortunately there’s no good solution to that atm, sometimes you’ll have to go out and gather seeds from the wilderness if your tree farm doesn’t drop enough seeds to regrow the same amount

Mine are all earth based. I just raise up the ground level as high as possible and build above.

you can also just build your dock around a natural inlet and then dig out the harbour. if you dig so deep that you have to swim after, it's deep enough for any boat.

depends on the biome. In meadows and BF you can just use the underwater rocks that are already there

I clearly remember spending an hour or two swimming in water trying to snap pillars in the water, and the 2 pillars wouldn't snap, so I had to go spiral

If you want perfectly straight terrain and right angles, I hear there is a game called Minecraft.

you're not level on the left. You'll need to raise earth near that wiggly line and then use the hoe or pickaxe to level the top, then cut a straight line along the edge with the pickaxe again.

I'll give you a little tip. If you're having trouble levelling the top of earth with a hoe & pickaxe, you can put down wood floor over it and then pickaxe anyting that sticks up above the floor. The floor stops you from digging too low.

for perfectly straight lines with terraforming, you must go N-S E-W.

after raising the ground, then go around the edges below with a pickaxe. A PITA, but doeable.

(that's also how I dig my moats around the bases to keep the riffraff out. 🙂

Minor recovers certain ammount almost instantly, tasty increases your regen so in the time its active you recover more quickly

It's a massive burst increase of regen for 10s.

It had a 10s cooldown and lasts 10s, so effectively it has no cooldown.
As opposed to any other stamina pots, which have 2 min cooldowns.

So you can have up to 325% regen rate.

I have a question if anyone wants to clarify how trolls work. I'm building my base in the meadows, and my friends are building their bases on the border between the black forest and meadow (on the meadow side). If I am online, but not them, can trolls spawn in the black forest and walk over to their base and destroy it?

I just had a situation where i was chopping a pine tree at the border and a troll saw me, and so I ran, but then the troll locked onto one of their bases and destroyed half of it (which I tediously had to rebuild since it is technically my fault). In that case it makes since for the troll to come to their base since I kinda lured it, but can it naturally happen? I'm just really paranoid now to be online when they are not.

Trolls will only attack certain base structures such as workbenches. If they can’t see those kind of things and just see walls instead, they won’t break anything.

It also depends when you go to sleep, if you go sleep just after noon or at midnight that makes a massive difference. You always wake up ať the same time so the total time skipped would be different 🙂

Not really 😄 you can expand your first one, thats what i usually do but i am not too much of a builder (you get new build pieces as you progress)

No but it does speed up the process. I personally make one main base in the meadows till I get to plains.
I also make satellite bases in the other biomes but they are very small and only contain the bare minimum to make the stuff I can get out of that biome.

I would suggest going up the inside walls, not the center, for support for the walls going higher. You don't need to get rid of the center pillar, but going up the inside of the walls will do more for their support. Like this:

Using stagreaker on the ground until you see "too hard", and iirc it was possible to do even with ooze bombs (dont quote me on the second one its quite an fuzzy memory and i would have to go check). With the stagbreaker you just want to make sure there is no obsidian it its dmg radius since it will also say too hard 🙂

I would suggest sailing the edges of islands until you find some good swamp, bring portal materials with you so you can portal back home for a rest, try to look for green torch light in the trees, if you see some park, kill any mobs close by, plop down a workbench and portal, go get rested, come back and see if you've found a crypt to delve into.

Be careful of circles of stones as they have several mob spawners

If you're looking to find bonemass, the vegvisir can possibly be found in the crypts or on the crumbling towers

yeah, i feel the severity of the weight to difficulty to move is just a bit too aggressively scaled--it renders the thing practically worthless, for the one niche application, overland travel, it would have, and it rarely is practically useful to have a path, since usually (excepting the blackmetal) it's not really "renewable" for any given site--if you're moving stuff between bases, likely you can use a portal, unless it's an odd situation you wanna move metal between bases

and of course for just this reason, of transport, i think a lot of people tend to settle most of their main bases along the coast

You don't NEED to use up every last slot in the cart. Considering you can't even carry a full stack of metal without megingjord even just carting 5-6 stacks in one go is already a massive improvement. And you can easily pull a half-full cart over most reasonably flat terrain without trouble, 5-6 stacks actually lets you go up some (gentle) hills.

Hey. I am building a stone fortress. The walls are entirely from stone, but the higher they get, they go from green to yellow, to orange, and red at the highest. Should I replace the orange and red higher stone walls with wood?

Corewood doesn't do anything to stabilize stone buildings because it has much lower base support than stone.
Corewood has a max support of 140. Stone has max support of 1000 (and min support of 100, so a corewood log with non-perfect support can't support even a single layer of stone on top).

Not for stone. It adds height to wood and a grounded corewood pole can support 1 layer of stone if you don't want to build more stone on top (like for a bridge for example) but it won't let you build a stone building any higher.

what actually gets you height for stone buildings is:
iron - max support 1500 and much less loss both vertical and horizontal, meaning you can stack more of them). Also includes dvergr metal walls even if they're made of copper.
black marble - max support 1500, same vertical loss but since you start higher you can stack more layers on top
grausten - max support 2000, slightly lower loss both vertical and horizontal.

It's not that hard. Every material has a max support (when it's blue) and min support (the point where it starts breaking as soon as you build it.
Build pieces lose a certain percentage of that the higher up (horizontal loss) or farther out to the side (vertical loss) from the ground they are (also counts rocks, trees, basically any terrain).

Wood has low max support and medium loss both horizontally and vertically.
Corewood is like wood only slightly better in all categories.
Stone has high max support and low vertical loss, but it has very high horizontal loss and its min support is equal to woods max support (so basic wood can never support stone).
Black marble has 50% more max support and half the horizontal loss of stone.
Iron has the same max support as marble but much lower loss both ways, the best in the game
Grausten has twice the max support of stone and lower loss than marble but worse than iron.

Anything AoE weapon like Himminafl, Demolisher or Ember staff helps a lot against groups.

When possible, you could raise earth walls around your workbench with hoe and stones to create a safe space from enemies that cannot fly and where you can also put your portals. Blobs can harm the wall if they explode next to it but if it's high enough they can't jump over.

do note that you don't get much in return, it turns items into coal but at a pretty low ratio
arrows are 0.05 coal, wood resource items like fine wood, wood or ancient bark are 0.2 coal, trophies are 1 coal and everything else, including weapons and armor are 0.1 coal, it rounds down and doesn't remember decimal coals for subsequent obliterations, honey is imo a good filler item once you have a few beehives around

sword being faster also makes it easier to get in a full combo between the abominations attacks though. So the dps gain in practice is much larger because the third hit in your primary combo does double damage.
Doesn't matter too much if you're parrying but if you're blocking or dodging it's very noticable.

Are you only able to build to a certain height in Valheim? I have 1 single piece on my roof that will not stay and continues to break no matter what I try to do to fix it. Everything else stays perfect with no issues, but this 1 single roof piece will not work lol

I wanna try the fishing rod but even tho I see fish all the time when travelling by boat, it's hard to stop and find them by foot though

Like, use that kind of wood instead? Can I send a screenshot to show what is not staying? It is literally just a 26 degree wood roof piece and the only one that will not stay there without breaking.

The game counts stability from the ground, certain pieces are longer (corewood poles) or loose less stability with distance from the groud(iron wood poles) your best bet would be to include some corewood pillars since you are apparently in Black forest stage atm 🙂 core wood drops from pine trees in there

in my experience, toggling tessellation (doesn't actually matter whether you turn it on or off, it just needs to reload) seems to fix it, but that may just be an incidental fix

it probably is just a loading issue and toggling tessellation probably nudges the game to redo terrain

@frosty frost sorry for the ping. When I feed my wolves, they get 0 health benefit.. am I missing something or are wolves just highly expendable?

They should heal, try to unload the are they are in maybe? (port away for few seconds)

Is there a specific type of shelter I should make for Boars and such? The one I got now just used walls and a wood door with no roof, but constantly decays and it drives me nuts

They dont really need anything special 🙂 Make whatever you think will suit them. (But its a good practice to have 2 tamed animals stashed away somewhere in case something will wike the population out)

Hello everyone.

I had some very strange experience in the game.

We played with 5 friends, on usual server. And in one moment there was trolls spawned all around the base. Literally everywhere in the base, on the walls, just above me, in old kitchen, outside kennel, and far over.

As I have figured out, no one except admin use devcommands. And even somehow that spawn commands came from my account, it spawning units at single point, not everywhere.

Any ideas what was that?
