it IS doable, but it becomes so long and tedious that it's no more fun left in it. I guess in public test it will be somewhat easier to perform due to introduction of potions, especially the anti-mosquito one.
that's released, it's not beta anymore
The best way to speed up the fight is to abuse the fact that yagluth turns very slowly by just turning around him and attacking. That will reduce how often he attack (how often you need to run away) and allow you to damage him faster
LOL IMO the longest part of the Yagluth fight is finding his damn altar.
I should've specified that I'm fighting him the "legit" way, no cheesy exploits like building fire pits or something that abuses dumb AI.
And why would you?
Hey guys i have a question where my fish recipe went?
i have raw persh in my eq and cant turn it in to raw fish
It's in the food preparation table now
There's also a station to make the meads and there's a new trader that can sell you some ingredients for new feasts and meads!
Whats the play for moving islands? My world seed seems to only have black forest, meadows, and mountain on the first island. I tried going into mountains and got 1 shot by a wolf while i was running away and wearing full set of troll gear
That's the usual setup. After the black forest is the swamp but you don't necessarily have to move island, you can make a boat, go to a swamp with poison resist, setup a portal there, harvest the new metal from that swamp and sail it back to your base (making bronze nails will unlock a decent boat)
is frostner better in mistlands compared to porcupine? ive already max upgraded the latter
Frostner will do a little more damage against seekers and will slow enemies, but because most of its damage is frost damage, it has very low stagger compared to the porcupine.
So it depends on how you use those weapons
got it, i'll probably stay w porcupine then, dont wanna grind more silver either
seekers are resistant to physical damage
so the facdt that frostner has some frost/spirit means they don't resist it
That also means the already low stagger gets reduced further against seekers
maybe that means that against seekers, when fighting them with early biome weapons, don't focus on stagger from weapon damage.
stagger via parry, sure
Is there any structure I can build over crops for protection that won't prevent them from growing? Iron bars are out, is there something else?
There is in ashlands ๐ (well, after you kill mistlands boss so technically mistlands)
However that will protect them only from projectiles i am afraid
does the crop recognize ROOF or ANY obstruction of sky?
what do you need them protected against
It's all I need; I'm getting ready to make my first Mistlands outpost and I anticipate those nightmare tick bags being able to wipe out my crops
cuz if the latter, i think there's probably no current in game way, to actually block sky direction, without affecting crop growth by definition =
My limited testing shows roofs and iron bars cause problems
what I mean is specifically tiles that protect from rain (I THINK one and same as those under which you get shelter, though that status has I think a few additional requirements involving invisible rays from player obstructed by objects, not JUST being under a roof tile) versus those that don't (e.g. regular 2 x 2 wood floor, etc.)
Bars are weird; they let rain through (no sheltered), but don't let smoke through apparently, and obstruct the sky
yes they are weird
but sadly I think the closest you can get to what you want is raising up an earthen wall high enough it blocks LoS and provides an obstruction they'd have to fly up to go over, and if extra desired put a battery of balistae facing outwards on top
Crops grow regardless of being loaded yeah? Untill I get some of the more advanced base defensese up, I can just not be there unless I'm activly harvesting
i DO think the mistlands crops are immune from damage once they reach full maturity at least from something I saw (basically having to do with them starting as foragables out in the world, being immune from damage to prevent their accidental destruction there, or just that that's how they behave similar to red shrooms/other forageables)
yes that's another good way
I'm not even ready to build yet, just musing things out in my mind while I'm doing other tasks
crops don't TECHNICALLY grow while away, but their timer 'counts' still--basically, it will all update and "pop" after a little time for game to process area the whole field to maturity (if enough time has passed) if you leave and come back
Yes, a technical nuance to keep in mind, Shrodinger's cat and all that
You can look on items page on wiki and it should have id there ๐
I missed the itemIds hotlink on the wiki page
hmmm so these aren't available in multiplayer?
If I spawn a blueberry bush in single player itll still appear though once i start the server and invite a friend though?
You can use commands in multiplayer if you are the host.
Items spawned with commands will be saved
someone should update the wiki page then lol. Thanks for the info!
Why? It's not wrong?
it only works for the host, and if it's a dedicated server, it doesn't even work for the host, because the host isn't truly the server's host, that would be the server itself.
Then its wrong lmao
in manually hosted multiplayer, it's always worked
Yeah, I guess that should read dedicated server.
Maybe i could change it to "They do not work on dedicated multiplayer servers or on player hosted servers if the player is not the host."?
It's OK, I've 'fixed' it.
That was fast
It doesn't take very long to change the wiki
Yep, I try and fix things as soon as I'm aware of them.
I like when wikis are actually community run by useful people so thank you for your work man
Meanwhile... Fextratrash...
Swear half the information i get from souls games on that resource is in the comments instead of on the actual posts
As much of ours as possible is sourced from code rips or a LOT of testing.
Yeah i started diving into the wiki and theres a lot of really useful info on there. Also appreciate that there are clearly defined mathematics on stuff like structural stability even if im never gonna put that much thought into it myself
how do you guys set up portals? Tag them on the map and use one port in base as a sort of telephone?
I don't even tag them on the map.
lol i know ill forget whatever i name them
Stop complicating their names?
Boss name: Elder
Portal to said boss name: Elder
If you forget that... idk what to tell you.
i do it pretty much the same way except sometimes i'm too lazy to add the marker, and i have 2-3 portals at home in case a trip takes several
I mean... I haven't even built one as of yet. Only started playing two days ago
Wait what do you need the extra 2-3 for?
Biome you're portalling to: Swamp
Portal to said biome name: Swamp
If you have a remote farm:
Portal to said remote farm name: Farm
for example on a swamp trip i place a portal by the ship, and then another on whatever crypt i'm mining. if one's broken (though that hasn't happened yet) the other is probably still there
Won't break because everything de-loads when you go through it ๐
yes, but sometimes a crypt is within render distance of the ship, yet inconveniently far away at the same time
and the method i use to get the iron to the ship keeps changing ๐ sometimes i schlepp it from the crypts directly to the boat, in which case i can then use the boat portal to get home, repair stuff, and then use the crypt portal to get right back to the crypt
silver vs root chest in plains?
Sometimes I put both chestplates in my hotbar to quickly swap to what I need
Whichever, root can be good for squitos and the spear fulings, but until you get fire wine watch out for the ones with torches. Silver is good all around imo, a bit slower, but when you can, upgrade to the plains gear
root
Hi everyone! I'm trying to craft potions in Valheim. I already have a fermenter and a cauldron, and I've gathered all the necessary ingredients to make some tasty mead mixes. However, the recipes arenโt showing up in my cauldron. Has anyone else experienced this or knows what I might be missing?
You need the new mead ketill ๐
Yeah, it came with the latest update ๐ you are welcome
Random question, been launching Valheim with Vulkan, is there an important difference between that and other option?
Performance
Launch it with both and compare
But basically if you have an nVIDIA card 2000 series or later Vulkan should be better.
good night guys, someone can help me? I cant cook in the cooking station, I receive one message "the cooking station need one campfire" but I have one campfire
Is the cooking station directly over a lit campfire?
yep
Got an AMD RX 6600
Not sure if anyone has the anyone can shed some light, but is there any documentation on the Fire Hazards setting? I want to play with it, but I'm not very creative with building and don't want to have to rebuild constantly. I don't know how brutal the flame spreading is either, and I learned real quickly that a campfire on dirt aint gonna work as my day 2 house almost crumbled, saved by the fact I just kept repairing as much as I could before it broke the walls. Is there a known range that fire spreads, does it work differently with hearths vs campfires, etc? I'd really appreciate some extra info on this if anyone knows the details
I do have an nvidia rtx 3050 integrated in my laptop, I guess this would apply to me then? I could test it but I already run it at +60 fps so maybe I wouldn't be able to see differences (especially considering I set the max fps at 60)
damn why do wolves hit so hard... its like a starting creature in every game
๐ well it isn't in valheim, common enemy in the fourth biome (mountains), wouldn't go near them till you've conquered swamps
yeah... got that ๐ญ
I just wandered into the snowy biome since i finished black forest and figured since its nearby it wouldnt be too bad. Saw a wolf and was like.
Yeah look at me in my badass troll armor and my long reaching flint spear...
Wolf said... you dont belong here. I got one shot lmoa
Any reason to craft bronze gear btw?
I havent even killed the elder yet so i guess i havent finished black forest but none of the areas around me seem to have a boss spawn
imo bronze armor is really not that much better than troll armor defensively and the movement speed penalty can hurt a lot early on. if you're fine with the bronze grind and want more defense, absolutely go for it, but if not, i'd just stick to troll, i always do.
as for weapons, they're certainly useful, i don't make them anymore but just because i'm stingy about my bronze
Bronze pickaxe ftw.
the bronze pickaxe has more durability and damage than the antler pick but isn't required for any new mineable thing
Bronze armor also has the BEST helmet in the game.
doing a playthrough on a seed I've already partially cleared before(really liked the layout). Hildir did not spawn at the same location(no other locations found) Any ideas why she isn't there?
Because the Bog Witch changed where things spawn.
Roger that, thanks
Haven't found bog witch yet though, but there was a nice small island where hildir and haldor spawn near each other that was kinda nice.
Alas, Haldor only.
beginner here just started the game should i just follow the white arrow on the map
That's just the wind direction.
shit what should i do then
Play the game.
how do i start
Listen to the bird, pick up everything, explore and have fun.
mmm ok i see
Can I get the jelly on the ceiling?
Did you try shooting it?
I've been trying to figure it out, and my trial and mostly nothing is happening, I think the range might not be that large, but still trialing. Also need to test hearths, but I want to check campfires first
I did, but I'm a terrible shot at vertical ranges, so I'm not 100% sure I'm just not hitting it right
When I right click with the hammer to bring up the build menu, the menu only shows up for like a frame and then goes away, anyone know a fix?
For troubleshooting purposes, try going to settings and rebinding it to a different, unused key and see if the problem persists
What is the easiest way to farm chains?
wraiths and sunken crypt chests afaik
Crypts definitely.
wraiths are only night spawns so its pretty slow
Without knowing it I have an entire stack of chains.
Just from crypts.
Inb4 they add "Looter" skill that gives you a chance to double what it in chests ๐
Double in chests, doubtful, increase drop rates, much more likely comperativly
Never happening because they would to tag every chest in the game as spawned vs. built. And then also track all spawned chests for "first open" to make it so you couldn't cheese such a skill.
And that's an unnecessary amount of work.
Heya, I got a question. Do the Hildir's items just give a stamina buff for the hammer or any tool (like cultivator and fishing in particular)? The wiki says hammer but the items in game say "base item".
I think it does for the hoe and the cultivator, not sure on the fishing though
Hammer, Hoe, Cultivator.
I just cleared 3 crypts and only have 9 chains lol. Bad luck?
RNG is RNG ๐คทโโ๏ธ
yeah they can be hit or miss
thank you!
I like building a tree house high up in the swamp, with wraith farming balconies around the site, go on the balcony at night and you have a decent chance to get a few extra chains especially if you properly live there
do chickens not make eggs in the black forest?
they do if they happy and fed
they just need a fire, seeds. and a partner right?
and I think shelter maybe not 100% sure about that
well they have that too
and it has to be under the population limit which is like around 12 ish
no worries
i have the same issue as this person: https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/s/IWI07xziPP thereโs just a giant rock where the mysterious location is
and i have no idea where the original veg thing was
As the first comment says, the locations marked by vegvisirs before the bog witch update May have been scrambled around, try deleting the mark and again marking it with the vegvisir
okay i understand but is there a way to find the vegvisir cause itโs been a while and i donโt remember the cave it was in
Just go through caves untill you find the old one or a new one, other than that you could probably use commands but depends on you
what are the commands i could use?
I am not sure about the exact id of the mysterious location or Its vegvisir but Its the "find" command
thank you
is there a way to regen the loot in charred fortress
my friends who don't even play anymore looted like all of them on my server
how do you cook fish
You need a food preparation table to turn fishes into raw fish, then cook that at a cooking station
Thanks
The thing on the right, the egg sack thing can be shot with an arrow and is easier to do from a few steps away the thing on the left isn't something you can click it is decoration.
You can build something under it get on it and jump and you won't see an interaction thingy pop up.
You could also throw a spear at them, saves arrows. It can alert nearby mobs tho.
You canโt break the jelly on the ceiling.
Any requirements for abominations to spawn or are they just rare? none are spawning for me
Youโre probably just getting unlucky
we don't know exactly, but i believe there ARE certain conditions in the swamp necessary. some swamps are more suited, but also, just could be unlocky
aboms spawn checks ... 66m 40sec. 1 per 64x64 zone, and 35%
so if you're looking for them, find a big swamp, and keep moving and waste a lot of time there
oh, that's something i havn't noticed before. Abom biome is listed as "Swamp (full)" not all swamp mobs say (full)
i don't know what that means exactly
It means that the zone has to be 100% swamp, there cannot be any black forest or meadows or anything in the same zone
My gut guess, all four "corners" have to be swamp-- like not biome edge
yeah. all 64x64 squares have be swap bioime maybe
sorry, missed Asatru's statement above when i just said that lol
If you see a stump that looks out of place, go towards it
does wishbone have any use in mistlands?
i haven't heard of it finding anything there.
Nope
What all respawns in game? Other than animals/mobs. can dungeons respawn loot/mobs inside of them?
dungeons mostly don't respawn their contents, except the mushrooms, and later on dungeons will respawn some enemies in them
the main loot content, in chests, and etc., is not respawned
if join with my character who is about to beat fader, do my friends world where they are yet to beat bonemass. Can i trigger fader related raids on thier base?
only if the world has the player-based raids modifier ticked, otherwise progression is per world, not per character
Does the Frost effect from the Frost Arrow and the Draugr Fang bow stack? Or is it a waste to use Frost Arrows when you use this bow?
draugr fang only has poison damage, no frost
Damage from the bow and arrow are added together
how to check it it has? also default setting would have been world based?
default is world-based, yea, your friend can see it in the world's modifier settings on the main menu
Ah, my bad. Does the Poison effect stack when you use Poison arrows or not?
yes~~, but it's still poison so it sucks~~
Lmao, I know enough then haha. Thanks both of you ^^
Eh, the poison makes the difference between 1 and 2 shotting drakes, which is nice
against enemies that can die in one poison arrow, it's great yea!
buuut if you have to shoot more than once, you're likely just gonna cancel the damage of previous arrows to the point where you would've gotten more damage out of obisidian or needle
Draugr fang with needle is what i meant
oh, well yea you can't remove the poison damage from draugr fang, the bow is great because of all its other stats
but draugr fang with a poison arrow, which is normally obtainable earlier than needle arrows, should in theory also oneshot drakes without high levels
If I accidentally agro dvergers, do they ever calm down?
If you kill them they won't be aggro any more
second time today that it says im being attacked by the swamp and no mobs shows up, but im at my base in another biome, is this normal?
you may have spawnproofed well enough none spawn--if the center of the raid is such that its entire radius is 'covered' by spawnproofing objects' radii (such that no acceptable spawning locations exist), the raid will still trigger, but nothing will actually spawn; spawn blocking objects still work against raids
probably this then, i have a bunch of crafting tables
unless you're on an island, it's hard to completely spawnproof for a raid. the radius is bigger than the red circle
yeah but for non flyer raids, definitely is possible
flyers, seem to have the ability to spawn over water or something--never can seem to fully suppress them
yeah
Hey, I just returned to Valheim to play it with a friend. I was wondering if it is possible to somehow add my Friend to a Ward that I activate
it IS possible--just deactivate the ward, have the player to be added interact, reactivate it--boom
ah lol o.o thanks!
Why i can't see any potions when using cauldron?
New workstation, check your build menu, Mead Kettil
Because they're made in the mead ketill
ooh
Hey anyone can help? we have a server and some ** joined and put some bosses heads on the stones, is there a way or command to reset the stones in the spawn back to no boss heads?
There are console commands for removing the keys triggered by defeating bosses (basically making the game forget that enemy died), but if I remember right it does not remove the heads from the stones. (Best to wait for someone else to verify that as I'm not 100% sure.) It may be best to look for the most recent backup version of the world and see if you're willing to roll the server back to that state.
Yeah, I was going to hazard a guess that it would be a hard genie to stuff back in the bottle
gonna start mistlands for the first time. any advice?
To further clarify a bit: Making the game forget the boss died will reset any raids tied to that boss, as well as what enemies spawn at night. So if that's your concern, it will still help.
As with any new biome, ease into it; if you can, find a location where you can just go around the perimeter between Mistlands and some easier biome you can retreat to if you get overwhelmed and cause enemies to in-fight
Also, if you don't already know, ||there are passive Dvergr with green health bars that won't fight you if you don't piss them off or attack them||
Mark resources you come across to come back to later, you're initial goal should be to find ||an infested mine and get Dark Cores||
Also, a several heavy hitters in the mistlands have weakpoints I would have loved to have found out sooner than I did in my initial playthrough. ||Seeker Soldiers are weak to attacks from the rear and Gjall Blimp Bugs are weak on the underbelly, where it's all pimply and infested||
Boss location not where it says on the map, how can i find the location?
Delete the mark and visit the vegvisir again
Didn't know you could delete boss marks
You can the same way as any other ๐ but to get it back you have to visit the vegvisir or the altar itself
hmm... this space feels like it should hold more than just 5 boars (they did eat all 16 carrots i dropped in there at the start of the session). Is there something weird going on, or is this how it's supposed to be? ๐ค
Were you in vicinity all the time and did you sleep?
Maybe they need some enteraintment, they are probably pretty Boar-ed
i did sail to a mining base to grab all the stone that was stored there, aside from that i was in the base all the time. I did sleep a few times
My limited understanding is the breeding process requires supervision, but the growing process does not
When they eat and you go away the food timer still continues but the boars are frozen as the zone is unloaded, so after 10 minutes (the time 1 food item makes the animal "happy") the animal goes hungry again while it didnt do anything since the zone wasnt loaded, similar thing happens when you are sleeping, it fast forwards through the food timer and you effectively waste the food
ahhhh, that is good to know! i'll keep that in mind for next time. Thanks! ๐
You are welcome ๐
Ok so
No one has been able to answer this in the 30+ years I have been alive.
WHAT IS THE OTHER HALF OF THE DAMN BATTLE?
Application of knoweldge
The doing ๐
Those sound like cop-out answers tbh.
I mean, Yin an Yang
If Yin is knowing, Yang would be ignorance ๐
Boars have a limit of 5 per 10 meter area, once they reach 5 they stop breeding
Also, if all the food is clustered in one spot, then all 5 boars will be within the same radius when they're fed. Boars won't reproduce if there are 5 or more within a radius of 10m. It looks like the long side of that pen is 12-14m? It's very possible they're not getting far enough away from each other to reproduce more.
Plan and Execute
You mean we can't cram the boars into a machine like Minecraft?
Well, I guess that even has a default limit of 24
At least not by letting them amble about happily. There's plenty of automated/dropper farms that can force more into a space.
What I do with boars is just butcher all of them but 2, give them a carrot each, they will have 3-4 babies in the following minutes and 2 in-game days after I repeat the process once the babies are grown
ahhhh, that's probably what happened then
it's why people setup boar towers. if it's 12 meters in the air, they will keep spitting out babies
fun making the boar farms a few times, just easier to find a 1 or 2 star boar, or two small pens. I just need boar meat until done with mtn
playing in a creative file with Debug mode, my camera just locked its max zoom out and i cant put it back
nvm relogging fixed it

I'm playing on Xbox and it seems that when I try to put writing on a charcoal sign, it stays blank? Is anyone else having this issue?
Have you tried turning the sign around? The front of the sign should have "..." visible on the front even before you put text on it.
I've also just realized that the game will not allow me to title portals either
Known issue, they're working on it
I also play on xbox, I know what you're going through
Awesome thanks
Yup, similar issue with naming tames as well, you'll get stuck in blocking mode until you hit the block button again and it won't change the name
But, also if you can keep the sign/ portal names short, and try to do it real quick, you can still name them. At least in my experience. It might take 2 or even 3 tries though even still
Yeah it was like that for me yesterday. I decided to give it a day and came back and still had the problem and that was when I realized the portal issue as well
It's been like this since the bog witch release unfortunately
Anyone have any tips on fishing. It's kind of hard to tell when a fish is pulling and when is optimal to reel it in.
Eat high stamina food, bind stamina pots to an easy to reach hotbar key to give you an emergency boost when needed
So theres no way to really do better besides just working the stamina restoration stuff. No actual skill is involved?
I wouldn't say that, I've just not fished enough to get beyond the brute force methods. I'm sure there is a seasoned angler here with better tips
Gotcha
Anyone have any idea as to why I cant use any commands? It throws this everytime I try anything at all. Was gonna try and update world for BogWitch or force spawn in.. but I cant even get to DevCommands lol
are you using mods?
I am
V+?
In Thunderstore
I see this a lot with mod conflicts. I see youre using R2, Start a new world with all mods, build a respawn, and then restart with one or two mods disabled. Keep doing that till you isolate the issue.
What is R2?
The easiest way is fishing off a shore, you can literally just walk backwards and pull them up onto shore. Even if you lose the catch they're on shore and you can grab them off the ground. Just be careful, they'll sometimes get caught on little bumps on the ground and that can snap the line.
I prefer fishing in the plains, groupers drop 2 raw fish per level 1 grouper, and 5 from a level 2.
Also, you shouldnt need two portal mods. Xportal mod should cover portal needs.
a mod manager
also, not meaning to be rude or anything here but you actually dont need many of these mods anymore, specifically portals and dropmoreloot. theyre now part of the world modifier settings
I wasnt aware of the portals .. I have the one that lets me transfer with metal stuff.. and the other just lets me use one portal for everywhere. As far as the other I just havent took the time to go in and do anyting with it. It works right now.. I dont see a reason to mess with it. LOL
Also... it was the unrestricted portals mod.. thats the one causing the issue.
ah okay. can you explain what you mean by one portal for everywhere? because the metals one definitely comes under the portal setting modifier
As in I can use one portal to access any portal I have placed down
I had some technical issues yesterday...
Was playing my current world, I think I started it with mistland or shortly before so it went through some updates and changes.
Yesterday we wanted to find some seeker soldier trophys or a new Queen Lair since my mate didn't kill the boss yet. Unfortunatelly the Game crashed 3 times while exploring the mistlands in the far west, after a restart I was set back in my bed and he was still on his correct position. Once it seemed like the Server lost some minutes since a small portal house was missing, I still got the mats in my bag and the ship was some meters in the ocean.
The problems never happend in the ashlands biome, only in the mistlands.
I've got >700 hours in valheim and do not use mods but I would like if somethings wrong with my game or my world or if I have to start again in a new one. Would be great to know what I could check to prevent those issues.
Edit: I started the server on my PC, no other connection/internet problems
Heya, just a quick question : what's the best way to find traders ? by foot or by boat? already day 120 in my playthrough and still haven't find the dwarf trader (haven't looked actively for him though until now)
Boat, sail around and map all the black forest and meadows you can find.
he was faster... but yes, sailing is faster. Maybe use the buff of moder to make it easier
He can appear in meadows ?
Hildir in the meadows, haldor black forest
Haldor only apears in Black Forrest
Thereโs a trader in all of the first three biomes
There are 2 traders, Haldor is black forest, Hildir is meadows.
technically 3 including the last update ๐
True, I keep forgetting the witch that is in the swamps.
yep. I was a bit surprised how big the sign of the witch is ๐
since you are here ๐ are there any know issues of game crashes of "older" worlds after the latest update? Or logs I could check?
usually mod related crashes
I don't use any mods. I did long time ago but since a year I'm playing clean ๐
if you still crash, I have doubts on cleaning ๐ค
but it's mostly from all other people who also had issues with old mods still lingering around ๐ฆ
C:\Users\ <username> \AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim
player and player-prev are the logfiles
hm... I'll check that. Is it possible that my mate got old mods running which crashes the game?
Why
alright. I'll check and let him check as well.
I was surprised since I didn't have any problems in other biomes, only in the mistland.
Thanks for your help ๐
easily explained.
Mods changes or add lines to our gamefiles
but if we change around what is on those lines, it just doesn't work anymore
Sounds logical, though I can't remember many new things after the BogWitch update that could break my mods
The update doesn't need to be related to the mods in any way to break them
the entire game engine update is big enough to make sure mods are up to date ๐
could be mods using game engine files or lines
So, having started a conversation I have another question - when will the spear attack hitbox be increased?
The hitbox matches the animation pretty well, nothing needs to change
And it's best not to change movesets of weapons players have been practicing with for years
sorry to start a conversation with you ๐ now you're stuck ๐
It's too little since valheim released and many people still hate this
it is part of my job to talk to users ๐
People using knives don't complain about their small hitboxes
Knives aren't spears though
Just don't fight on a hill
But why are the knife users happy with what they've got and spear users feel the need to ask for more?
just like axe users vs sword users are unhappy over the shorter reach?
or melee weapon users are angry on mages?
i personally hate those caster.... ๐ can't see anything if they blast their fireball...
Knives have huge backstab bonus, fast attacks and powerful alternative attack, spears only have fast attacks (throwing it may be dangerous)
Actually I hate everything because knockback is too much to hit all 3 attacks, but axes are the worst in this case
knife users are envious on spear users because they can't kill drakes
and spears are the cheapest weapon in the entire game to make ๐ค
Spear-mains can also throw it 3356 meters away in Mountain
Probably skill issue
Personally I look at the weapons as diffrent tools to use
I would switch to a bow tbh
It's a bit like this:
Before it was 12345
Your mods adds 67
Bog witch comes along and now we have 123456 your mod still adds 67
So now you have 12345667
Yeah that isn't correct, bleep --> crash.
or like 201 is the one defining "E" key as "use" keyt
mod now changes line 201 to adding a volvo station vagen with laser beams
E key stop working ๐ค
(This has happend btw)
It's mainly the engine version update that would've been breaking things, not new content
It's like a story (Vanilla Valheim) with markings in the white space (mods), now the story gets changed and the markings are all at the wrong spot.
I'm off to find The Elder with the winds in my sails and a portal in my pocket. Any first time advice?
Don't get hit, don't panic and place the portal a bit away ๐
Kite and fire arrows ๐ค
next time you sail try to build better boat, the raft is absolutely terrible and for longer exploration the 2nd boat is safer and faster
i recommend making some bronze nails so that you unlock the recipe for a better, faster boat. There is a certain creature that can spawn on the ocean that will shred rafts
See, I kept looking at them and didn't make them. Thanks!
Hey, is there a way how to tilt/add angle to world objects like rocks when spawning via commands?
No. I think objects always spawn facing north.
how do i get health permanently? i increased my health by eating food, but now my health is slowly dropping. Why is that?
Food stats very slowly decay as the timer decreases. When their timer is halved, you can eat more food, but the stats don't drop much until you have 20-10% time left so you don't need to eat again until they've nearly ran out.
You cannot permanently increase your stats.
Except with mods probably.
food is your bonus health, your real health is always low, by progressing throw the game you unlock stronger food that gives you more HP or Stamina and some foods can last for 50min
How? -> You don't.
Why? -> Because they designed the game that way.
Look for more burial chambers to find a vegvisir so you don't have to sail as much, also make a karve if you wanna sail a bit better
Anyone know how to upload the new _FooTexCache files to a server? Everything I see describes using the deprecated .fwl and .db files.
how do you paddle a karve? Or any other boat for that matter?
Move forward once, so there's one arrow over the wheel
Just get on the boat and 'use' the tiller to steer.
Really need some help maybe getting these new world files to upload to a server if any developer types are around.
I see it now. I thought there was like a manual way to paddle and use sails
1 time forwards is paddle, 2 times is half mast, 3 times is full mast.
1 time back is paddling backwards and that is the only thing available to go backwards.
All have their uses, half mast is good for when you want to dock precisely, full mast open ocean with wind in the sails, paddling more maneuverability and good for when there is no wind.
On another note what do you do if the ship gets stuck? Just break it collect the mats and rebuild?
NM. The world files simply default to saving on the cloud which gives your the _fooTexCache files. I literally see no references to this anywhere but so be it. You simply must manipulate the 'save' itself from the valheim menu in the world load screen and save it locally then you have access to the .fwl and .db.
Unsure why this is not referenced anywhere really.
Depends where it gets stuck, you can also break the thing it got stuck on.
is the demolisher viable at all?
I don't think so because it's so slow at killing things but other people here will probably disagree
do not dig underneath and place the portal, his stomp will break it easily
I always dig underneath and haven't had any problems. You aren't digging deep enough.
You don't need to go down as far as possible, just a few metres below the surface.
just asking cuz ive been mainly using the carapace spear the entire mistlands and im getting close to fighting a queen and i just realized shes specifically resistant to pierce so im looking into alternatives. i know the mist sword is really really good but im lvl 0 in swords (i wanted to play thru with weapon times i dont usually use)
im lvl 57 w clubs and 65 w spears and pretty much 0 w everything else
You can try the frostner or go magic.
i guess i could try magic yeah
A high level frostner should work well enough
tho i'll have to grind levels a bit.. and like at that point i could just make mistwalker and grind swords..
yeah frostner then, i guess
i rly wish there were more viable maces ๐
All other bosses have good maces to kill them with. For Moder it's best to use iron mace, but that's only one biome behind, not two.
Maces are one of the best weapon types in this game lol, they don't have a viability issue at all
If anything it just shows how good frostner is that even with the other maces being good, it's still shining even past the biome it's introduced in
It's very good 3 biomes up.
The starting club is so good, cheap and low opportunity cost to upgrade, with swamp enemies having lots of blunt weakness that while being the very first weapon you get, it's still relevant 2 biomes later.
And that relevance carries on to later as that means more mace weapon skill
And that's a common theme with maces, they have a long time before their expiry.
I imagine in the full release of the game frostner only stops being useful once you finish ashlands
But yeah, porcupine let's you have piercing damage while still using mace skill, frostner for fighting crowds and cc, Flametal mace for more raw blunt damage and you get to upgrade that however you like. I don't think there's any other melee weapon type that can compete with that versatility.
Whatโs the best weapon set to use for the 5th boss? Should I stick with frostner or black metal sword?
Also what kind of food? Iโm using the fire res lox meat, deer soup and carrot soup
If you have the silver sword, silver sword actually outdamages blackmetal vs the 5th boss.
Frostner does a good job as well of course
Silver knife likewise is good.
In fact silver anything
I have a level 3 frostner, Iโve been using that but would the silver sword be a better option?
If you have higher mace combat skill and not much in swords I'd just stick with frostner.
Alright, any kind of foods I should be using?
In using these atm.
For food, you're missing some very good foods there, have you upgraded your cauldron? Did you ever find turnip seeds?
You'd wanna use stuff like lox meat pie, blood pudding, serpent stew for the 5th boss
I should be able to upgrade my cauldron and I donโt think I have found any.
Never even heard of those 2 things lol
Turnips are required for one of the cauldron upgrades and when I see out of date foods itsnusually cause turnips were never found
How do you find them?
Somewhere in Swamps.
I may have to look up what they look like.
And I just realized you said lox meat pie? How do you make that?
Turnip seeds cam be found In the swamp, like carrot seeds in black forest. They're quite rare though.
Lox meat pie is unusual in that you make an uncooked version at a food preparation table and then stick it inside a stone oven. It needs barley flour as well though, which itself requires a windmill.
Try find yellow flowers (for seeds), similar to carrot seed flowers in Black forest.
There's a lot of farming and processing chores the plains opens you up to
I did make some barley flour I have about 7 but I didnโt know what it could be used for.
If you have a food preparation table you should be able to use it to make uncooked bread and lox meat pie to stick in the stone oven.
With a level 4 cauldron it also makes blood pudding, which is the best stam food available in the plains
Bread is a cheap stamina food, something you can make in bulk really easily and is good to eat while just building or going to older biomes
I have like 20 portals so thankfully I donโt have to do muck travel.
Thanks though this helps a lot I didnโt even know how to use most of the stuff you said and I learned a lot of other types of food.
Do you have a barley/flax farm set up somewhere? Or did you get everything from raiding villages?
Cause barley and flax can be planted on cultivated soil in the plains
I do have a flax farm but I just finished getting it all I have around 200+ and some barley about 100
is the wind coded to be always in front of you? literally every saling i do its with the wind badly and in front of my direction, only one time was good and was for a 30 seconds sailing
So for a tip, if you set up a farm where you have 2 windmills and plant 100 barley, it sustainably makes a stack of 20 bread every single farm cycle. While it's not the best stamina food for the plains, and of course is outclassed later, it's cheap, low effort food that is good for building
Just unlucky.
not only is the wind random, but it's consistent for every world and seed, here's a tool that can predict what weather, wind direction and wind speed you'll get in each biome at what time on which day http://valheim.kirilloid.ru/weather#1
Help utilities for valheim for those who love efficiency
Ngl all my โfarmโ is, is just a small cultivated land with raised ground to protect it.
Yeah it doesn't need to be fancy, but I do suggest building windmills near your barley farm because those blades actually kill deathsquitos, offering you a bit of extra protection
Maybe at some time if you want (itโll be in like 4-5h tho) you can check out what I got going on.
But of course the main lesson learned here is don't sleep on upgrading the cauldron. Those foods are very worth grabbing
Yeah I think that just got added right?
I donโt remember seeing things to upgrade it till recently
Cauldron upgrades have been here since before mistlands - though the food preparation table and mead ketil are new.
a.
But they just took some recipes away from the cauldron in part, eg bread base and uncooked lox pie used to be made at a cauldron
You should be able to make lox meat pie right away at one of those tables in fact
Yeah I didnโt know what they did so I havenโt actually made them
Again it used to be done at the cauldron so some confusion is to be expected
(since september 16th 2021 to be specific, hearth & home added the concept of cauldron upgrades)
i'm still not entirely sure the change to take half the food from behind cauldron gates is a good justifiable decision
Yeah as soon as I saw the mead kettle I went to go see it and they were gone
like it's half, not all, but it TENDS (the 2 step food that went to the table) to be the BETTER half of the food options...
it's just weird to me to be a deliberate design choice
It's kinda weird to make uncooked foods over a fire as well though right?
also, what is the serpent stew?
at least they're still gated behind the oven
You need a fire for that? xd
It uses serpent meat, requires level 3 cauldron
oh my gripe isn't they don't make more sense at the prep table, it's that the prep table doesn't share upgrade reqs with cauldron upgrades in a certain radius OR have it's own set of upgrades
Nah, was talking about the old system, speaking to third archon about it
Ngl Iโve never killed one I do have a Abyssal thing tho
level 2 cauldron, the biome progression is offset by one since you only get the cauldron in black forest
Ah alright
If you've never killed one don't worry, it means your 2 best health foods are instead lox meat pie and (I think) wolf skewer
Depends, I don't knownif you fight with 2 hp 1 stam or 1 hp 2 stam
Nah I go no problem going out to kill one for the food
How many do I get per kill?
Iโm fine with maybe 2 hp since I can make stam potions
Like 7? They're not particularly common enemies though, it's only slightly better than lox meat pie and you get better food in the mistlands anyway. I wouldn't worry too much about hunting serpents
If you're a competent fighter lox meat pie and wolf skewer should be fine (again I'm not sure if there's a food I'm missing)
fish wraps
Yeah but after what I went through the first time with the boss I wanna be over over prepped for it
Oh of course, fish wraps. I don't do fishing lol, that explains why I missed them
fish wraps are bomb
same
So what should I use for 2 hp and 1 stam?
I'd use a lox pie, serpent stew and bread
it's actually super easy, because you can get so many raw fish from each individual fish when they're higher quality, to make fish wraps
For 2 hp and 1 stam BiS for plains is lox meat pie, serpent stew and blood pudding
and you don't really NEED the harpoon for serpent stew--the meat floats, it's the trophy and scales that sink
at least I think the trophy sinks, the scales certainly do
But bread is way easier to make than blood pudding, and fish wraps/wolf skewer are easier to make than serpent stew
100%
Iโd rather getting the better product and harder to make then the easiest one.
The gap between blood pudding and bread is very small
Ig I might as well ask how to make the blood pudding
They're small differences, is why I say it. Technically blood pudding is bis but there's not much in it
Iโll check out the stats ig
Alright, Iโll stick with bread and the 2 others
If you have lots of bloodbags and thistle lying about then it won't be a problem, since blood pudding is bloodbags, thistle and barley flour
It's just they're older biome materials, and used for other recipes too hence it's technically more effort to make them if you don't have the cats on hand
You won't need to make many because you unlock mistland food very early
Ah thatโs not too bad
Yeah, and salad is both easier to make and better
How do you make bread just barley flour?
10 barley flour makes 2 bread bases, and you cook in the Stone oven (it cooks 4 at a time). Stone oven works the same as the cooking stations where you hang meat, leave it too long and it burns
And now you have the chance for extra bread
Also, worth noting that bread stacks 20, vs blood pudding stacking 10
So while blood pudding is better it does take more inventory space
Then I go to the food table to get bread and lox meat onto a pie?
Yeah, you make uncooked recipes at the table, then take them to the stone oven
So I have to cook the bread mead and then make the pie and then cook it again?
and the whole time the crafting bar is filling you have to say "come on, no whammy, no whammy, no whammy, no whammy, no whammy, no whammy, no whammy..." as it increases the chance of getting an extra uncooked pie at the table or a cooked pie out of the oven
The pie and the bread aren't cooked when you first make them, there's no waiting you just press a button to make them, like if you were crafting at the workbench
Xd
You only have to wait when they're in the oven
It says to make it I need cloud berries 2 lox meat and barley flour
For lox meat pie yes
don't they have the same craft interface of any station--I was PRETTY sure one of the neat things people had noticed about the 2 step foods was you can actually roll the crafting/cooking extra one EACH step
Ah I thought I needed to make bread and then the pie
could be wrong though--certainly have been before
No. They're 2 separate recipes, and you can stick pie and bread in the oven at the same time, like how you could stick boar meat and deer meat on the cooking station at the same time
You should be right that would fall under the cooking skill
It is correct yes, the food prep table uncooked meals are especially good because you get multiple chances to make extras, vs only one at the cauldron
Wasn't the case for the prep table in the PTB, now it is, but you had twice the chance for the recipes that needed cooked meat
Wanna add me (in discord) and then after Iโm done school u might be able to help me?
Sure, I got a lot of travelling to do later, could kill the time a bit
And by the way there was always more option than just HHS and HSS and now with the feasts there's just so many combination you can go for
Before feasts the balanced foods weren't really worth it, with feasts they kinda are now. Triple health and triple stam are always playable too, I just assume cause most people ove spoken to play 2 hp 1 stam or 1 hp 2 stam (this is pre mistlands remember, other setups don't exist yet which is why I'm not discussing them)
Whatโs a feast?
new kind of food, added in the last update
They any good?
they last like double duration of all others and tend to have decent balanced stats--I find them useful (i still maintain they each need a single unique, small, status effect buff as a 'cherry on top' to really bring out a special 'wow' factor I feel is missing from them now)
triple health is my go to, I just put more importance in being able to parry stronger attacks, heal faster and be able to survive more hits and status effects than on being able to use more stamina before you need to recover
Does the 5th boss despawn after being summoned and not defeated?
Yesโฆโฆ there at the alter tho so itโs alr but thatโs really helpful ty
And he heals ๐ญ
Yeah, it's ideal to try and do as much damage as you can in one fight, if you need to retreat hopefully it's not for long
All mobs do, at the rate of 100% per hour ๐ and sleeping affects it too
Yagluth is actually quite dangerous, a big jump up from the bosses that came before in my opinion
He's fine if you know how to deal with him but a first time fighting him can be quite rough
I had it at 1/4 hp..
(With my brothers help) he didnโt do much tho xd
Bro it was stressful
Even with fire resist mead he hurts quite a bit
I had only battle equipment on me and the portal broke so I had to use frostner to break bushes and find where it broke then dodge all the attacks and name the portal ๐ญ
I stack that sh with bonemas
I had a ruined save because of a portal not being set up in time on my first visit to the mistlands
I got ambushed by 2 1 star seekers. That was my first impression of the mistlands
I use Fenris set for Yagluth, you are fast to dodge his attacks and it has build in fire resist for the times you do get hit.
Hereโs my first.
โOh look whatโs that? OHH TURN THE BOAT AROUND I SEE A PINK RABBIT yeah letโs not go there right nowโฆ thatโs another mistlands??? Why is there 3 mistlands islands beside eachother??โ
I would advise if possible your first venture into the mistlands you set up a portal in another biome that's sitting close
The mistlands usually aren't that dangerous, but starred seekers, seeker soldiers and gjall can all be really rough encounters early into the biome
Right side: plains biome
Left side: mistlands:
so we had to climb it and it was realllllly tall and steep
Yeah, that's mistlands. Very up and down, highly vertical
when they jump on you they "stick" and then do rapid damage per second
Luckily it wasn't the killer rabbit of Caerbannog.
Yeahโฆ
You can shake them off if they latch in using dodge roll. They attack you constantly while latched
you can parry to stop them latching, you can dodge roll to get them off, if you have an atgeir, the spin secondary attack should knock them off IIRC
At least thereโs a way to get em off
Armored builds can afford to have ticks latch for a bit, but not too long. They're extremely dangerous to squishy builds
If you have the ember staff just aim at your feet and blast away.
Was just a 1 star hare thing
It's like 50 damage per instance of hitting you
Without heavy armor and with how frequently the damage occurs its lethal very quickly
infested mines and gjalls add them
So I donโt have to worry abt them exploring
If you see them in the wild follow where they came from
(add as in, spawns them in)
If you tick of a gjall, you'll find out.
They are also found in infested mines.
?
Because ticks spawn near a resource you want to be grabbing
oh yeah, forgot those naturally overworld spawning ones
i believe those are one of the "one time POI spawns"
I donโt think I โwantโ to follow them๐
you do want what they are guarding, desperately \
And in fact that's a common theme with the mistlands biome, enemies are scary but if toy see lots of seekers or ticks spawning in one spot it's usually because there's something important there
What is it?
they're not that bad, low health--think of them like deathsquitos except not able to fly
Spoilers ๐
:/
ooze bombs work well against them, as do AoE/large attack weapons (2 handed hammers etc)
Alright lol I gtg for now
5 dmg??
poison cloud
Ticks don't have much hp
They die to one hit from most things. Like most things in this game they're ultra dangerous, but only really lethal if you're caught with no stamina
And again, 50 damage sounds like a lot but even squishy armor builds will halve that at least so realistically each instance of damage is more like 25, or for heavily armored builds you're looking at 13 - 15 damage
now the 2 star ticks SHOULD fill you with a sense of existential dread on sight
Anything with 2 star in the mistlands to be fair
If a tick attacks you, you can roll to get it off
If something is spawning with 2 stars in the mistlands, it's either night time or you're inside an infested mine
Seekers one time spawn around POI can have 2 stars
I don't think ticks even have stars unless you're inside a mine
I donโt wanna know.
Seeker soldiers can spawn with two stars anywhere
That's... kinda terrifying. I have yet to encounter a 2 star seeker soldier. Hopefully if I do there are no other enemies to interfere with the fight lol
How are ashlands? I bet there fun
I never been
It was the first enemy I found in mistlands
I have not made it to the ashlands yet, I'm currently 7/9 fragments in mistlands
soldiers are honestly one of the easiest enemies
Fragments?
The thing you need to fight the boss
they're slow, they can't even fly like many of the enemies, no ranged attack, weak spot on the butt
I still need to find 2 more
you literally just climb up a rock of which there are an abundance in the mistlands, and the soldier just has to glare at you while it dies
Sounds like fun.
Soldiers seem to be able to climb up even the steepest of surfaces
not IME
They're able to follow me most places, not everywhere of course
certainly, by the time they finally pathfind until they're in melee range, you can just leap to another rock--admittedly, this is all SO much easier once you acquire the feather cape
In an infested mine there were 3 seeker soldiers in a pit, feeling safe I stood on the staircase to fire arrows at them and one of them climbed up another's back and headbutted me to the floor lol
Don't forget lightfoot mead too
Soldiers switch between 2 attack, one of them is a charge the other he does this attack where he attack each side of after the other. I wait for that attack, parry it from the side and use the sword special attack on his butt, it does about 1000 damage each time and is easy to execute
There's a 3rd attack which is just a bite
I parry then jump over to attack behind
If I can ill try and get to a point where a seeker soldier is stuck, then use a crossbow to fire at their bum
Or, I'll drag one into water then use ice damage
@true steeple At first I wasn't sure if you were trolling with the jumping attacks but since I heard you say you can just jump in the water if you are on fire I am pretty sure you are. But be honest, are you trolling?
Or of course strat 3, kite to my friendly neighbourhood dverger encampment
I am not trolling.
Your a blob, you'd be rolling.
I tried that jumping technique on a brute while I was just farming eyes. Got hit every single time trying to jump over the attack for the 30 seconds I tried it until I asked myself what the hell am I doing?
Enemies are bigger in high difficulties, were you playing above normal?
Hard
That's a 10% size increase then. Were you also using lightfoot mead (or feather cape if it was pre-bog witch?)
I was in troll armor
I wonder if with big enough enemies crouching would work to evade the attack, at least for some enemies
I've a question: how can one like me play with friends in our private match? what do i have to do? how to host?
(now i hope this is the correct section)
one of the friends has to host the server. then the other friends connect to it
how does hosting work? i tried in the past, but friend kept to be launched away
do i need some kind of server provider? can i be a server provider? our connection was pretty solid, i was on pc and he was on xbox
you don't need a provider. you can host it yourself, yes
and just make sure crossplay is enabled on the startup
What do u gotta do to get magic?-
The list is pretty long, hugin will tell you
get to the mistlands is the first step. and then listen to the bird, yes
U need the one crafting bench right?
Yes
What do you gotta do to make that?
Follow ticks, rob the dvergr, clear the infested mines ...
It will be fun, trust the process
what should i upgrade bronze buckler or bronze mace, i only have enough to upgrade one then go to swamp
Ticks are basically the easiest monsters youโll run into there. Just roll if they latch on you and smack him.
what level are they currently at?
i would try make sure both are at at least lvl 2 before you go to swamp
both are 1, also is it okay to use the mace even if the skill elvel is too low?
it should only be 9 bronze for both to get to lvl 2
because before mace i was using atgeir
whats your skill lvl?
anything at or over 20 is probably fine, but id recommend around 25
you probably want to be at the point of one hitting blobs with the mace secondary attack
mace is 14
alrightt, i'll level it up a few then thanks
Do you have a fermenter?
you WILL die without poison resist, i have 1100hrs and still sometimes die without it
If you don't use that bronze to make one and start making poison resist, that will be way more useful in the swamp than any gear upgrade
i reckon get it to 20 and youโll be golden
id massively recommend a lvl3 finewood bow with flint arrows too
yes
aight thanks for the tips and yes i have finewood bow l3
thats all good, yeah if you get club skill up to 20 you should be more than fine
and donโt explore at night until you have iron gear, just to avoid wraiths
happy to assist further if you need man ๐
any advice to find infested mines?
@little trench There is always a one time spawn of a group of seeker around the mines, so if you get attacked by a group of 3 or more during the day, it's likely there's a mine nearby, otherwise just by seeing the structure and wisp lights around them
But the best advice is probably just to cover a lot of ground in the mistlands by traversing it efficiently. It's achieved by avoiding to climb on rock formations and sticking to land and never backtracking by always having a portal on you
yea the mountains are super aids. i have to climb all the time and theres always some annoying gjall around ugh
That's why the low ground is better, you don't need to jump, you are less likely to be seen by gjall and the mines don't spawn on top of the rocks, they spawn on the ground.
no shame in using the online map tool either
unironically for this specific scenario I wouldn't even feel bad and did, because they're so goddamn easy to miss (and sure enough there were like 3 in areas I had run around for days in-game, exploring and reexploring, and still kept running by the entrance of)
i dont use it in any other biome except mistlands, because exploration in mistlands can get really boring and annoying
like it'd NORMALLY kinda ruin a lot of the intended fun/challenge for me, knowing what's on the map and where and just going directly to it
but yeah EXACTLY--for SPECIFICALLY mistlands, it's not fun just running over the same square inch of ground for hours
we really need upgraded wisplights--silver and wisps, or whatever, additional tiers
even with the map i sometimes struggle to find shit because they can be tucked behind so many obstacles
adds more floating lights and/or expanded reveal radius/radii of each/the one
i think a speed increase would be great too. if youโre sprinting you actually outrun the wisplight and it does next to nothing
id be more than happy to grind a few more silver if it meant better visibility
I think the current visibility is fine in mistlands. It wouldn't feel very misty if we could see everywhere
true, it does feel a little clunky tho
I always use a lot of wisp torches when I explore mistlands
nahhhh i hate grinding yggdrasil wood haha
I don't wanna have to spam the shitty torches just to see in areas I'm not settling--the item that's SUPPOSED to provide mobile visibility is very underwhelming at it's supposed use, hence why I think an upgrade is due
and also, a good excuse for more grind that actally provides value
silver, wisps, both could use more "demand" sources, and a good excuse same time add refined eitr mat requirement for higher levels
i.e. to start upgrading, you'll need to start harvesting some biome mats
Black cores?
or those--maybe a bit too expensive given their rarity, but I'd be open to that
i like using wisp torches in my mistlands base but NOT everywhere i go in the biome
An upgrade?
You mean... moving out?๐
yeah that's how I feel about them, or areas not necessarily base but high trafficked, but i certainly don't devote a slot to a wood stack and slot to a wisp stack tobuild as I go
you mean like, moving out of the biome lol?
exactly yeah
exactly yeah
inventory full enough
shield or buckler?
Depends on if you're good at parrying.
i guess whatever gives most parry bonus
i always take bucklers when I can but it def depends upon if you parry or not (you generally should, especially 1 v1 fights where you have the least difficulty, only having to anticipate and time the block against one attack, as you get way more armor on a parry with a buckler than anythign else always)
it's always bucklers--bucklers always give the highest block armor on parry but lowest on regular block, tower shield the exact opposite (cannot even parry, but the highest flat regular blocking armor) and "round/regular" shields are an inbetween
with higher block armor than even a tower, on a parry, still less than equivalent buckler tho, but more flat block armor than non-parrying buckler (but less than tower)
Matters only if you're good at parrying. Hence my initial question.
ability, preference (some could, but perhaps just prefer not to parry), but also situation--in the Ashlands for instance I'd argue there's so many enemies most of the time, that it's actually not so bad having no buckler option, because the round shield does still parry pretty well IME, and the upside is it works way better than a buckler would against masses of enemies where it's much more difficult and/or just impractical to constantly parry all of them rather than 'regular' block
I recommend shields for health diets and bucklers for stamina diets, but if you're exclusively going to use your shield for parrying, always use a buckler
is this boss spawn item? how many do i need?
You need nine
One can assume you need 9.
Do people in mistlands use magic at all or is it bad?
Oh plenty of people use it ๐
Many people go full mage immediately.
i started using magic in ashlands. but i could have gone full mage immediately
i mean, i did ashlands mage from the start, with mistlands gear. so it would have been even better in mistlands
I am normally using melee but i think i will go for mage this playthrough ๐
My brother watched a passive play through and he saw the guy use a weird blue thing and he threw it on the ground and it agrod the boss, what is that?
Is melee and magic good?
Eh? I dont think there is anything like that, might be modded
i haven't really tried it. but it seems hard to combine them because of the eitr requirements
He said when he put it on the ground it like broke apart or something
you want a lot of eitr to be able to cast your bubble. and with low skill, that requires 2 eitr foods
EES diet provides enough stamina for melee combat
I really dont know what that is, i dont belive there is anything like that in vanilla game
Idk either he did say it looked like a dragon tier tho
That was probably eitr that he dropped, it can damage anything around it
but eitr is green
Dragon tier?
Yeah the thing moder drops
and doesn't aggro anything
Weird idk. Iโll try to find the vid
Moder's Tears
I shouldn't have said probably when it was 100% eitr
They also dont do anything other than allow to make the artisan table
and you make up for lack of health with bubble, I presume--could be an interesting melee glass cannon build, esp. with blood weapons
Being able to parry anything could be inredibly powerful with melee weapons if you're in a safe situation to use it
imagine bubble, parry, secondary blood slayer attack
EEF is even better now that it is an option.
Would that provide enough stamina for good melee combat?
Once you defeated the boss
I'd consider the mistlands feast to be ashlands food and the plains feast to be mistlands food
Aren't ore deposit supposed to break when dug out ?
You need to break part of it for it to check for terrain
If it still doesn't fall, something is too close
Yeah, needs hitting to update physics.
This should probably be in mods discussion though as you could never dig that far so you can do this to copper. You don't even want to waste time digging the copper that's below ground as it's too much work for the little reward, best to find another one
Disagree. Completely clear 2-3 and you're done for the game.
By the time you clear 2-3 fully I will have cleared the top part of 5 of them and gotten more copper
will also not make the forest look like an absolute mess and health hazard with holes you can fall into
You can keep trolls in there
what was the poijnt of this'
Just wanted to try it out since I remembered doing it long ago
Didn't find any support so i'm just mining it out anyway
i'm pretty sure it's possible to dig deep enough for some veins, just a lot the time it's not (but not ALL the time)
Maybe if it generates like on top of a ridge
Oh sure, but in VERY rare circumstances when it is on top of the hill or something like that ๐ and this is really not that case
to be fair, I do not know how rare it is specifically, so you may very well be right
ok, im playing this on linux and have the playfab error and friends cant connect. i read to remove -crossplay but no one says remove it from where? anyone know?
crossplay is a setting when you're setting up the server. You should see near the password box when starting the server. It's got a little yellow bubble when it's turned on
Hello i have a question! can ashvine grow on darkwood dividers, darkwood arches and beams? or does it have to be flat wall and nothing else?
Yeah but it wont let me uncheck it
@brazen patrol Once it is fully dug out it needs to be hit. Then it will shatter. (As long as nothing it too close to be considered holding it up)
@mighty plaza mine are growing off my dark wood just fine. As long as there is nothing sticking out to stop it from growing up it will be fine. So if you have like an overhang, it either won't grow (no clear view to sky) or it will stop once it hits it (cause it now blocks it).
sweet mainly was wondering if vine can climb up that wall type, dont wanna waste precious seeds thank you!
@brazen patrol oh and copper is sort of odd and it can sometimes have ground inside it. Unlike silver that is small and easier to unearth lol
@mighty plaza I will say that mine are all connected to ashwood walls too. But the tar dividers work fine, so would guess they would too. I have them on grausten, ashwood, tar dividers, and stone
i just started getting any drops form ashlands, so that for the future, i need some starting points like some vines planted ๐
That's. Weird. Clicking that dot before you start the server just does nothing? I... don't know how to fix that, unfortunately.
I HAVE ARRIVED! Hi fellas, it's been a while from last time I played, and I noticed new crafting/farming skills. I've had some double craftings, like two deerskin capes instead of one, is there the chance for some random boons on upgrades? Like less resources used, or a free quality level if not maxed?
I know it can happen but I meant on the picture, you can't dig that far without mods
There's a mod that lets you dig the top piece of any kind of vein and deal the damage to other parts of it
TopMining I think
Just a chance for a bonus craft
Shame, I would've loved a bonus level for free
@mighty plaza
ooh so pretty woah
That is all ashwood decorative under it
From the inside... little harder to see
@mighty plaza they grow like crazy...so if you don't want it to overtake the whole wall suggest a smaller spot lol.
ahhhhh gotcha, my b
why when I fish I catch, for example, 'pike' and not raw fish?
you can't fry a pike
i have iron
Hey! My friend has a BIG problem. My friend can't build. The construction keeps snapping back to his character constantly and goes all over the place. Anyone can help me ?
You need to make a food preparation table to turn fish into raw fish meat, which can be cooked
@glad flame you take the fish to i believe the new bake board...forgot the new name. Then it turns to raw
@glad flame oh and the higher the fish level (1-4) give more raw fish for the better the level.
@hoary minnow that sounds like the xbox bug. Might have to try turning the sensitivity down till the pack
i don't think it's that because my friend play on pc
Make a food prep table
@hoary minnow ahhhh ok well it was an issue with the new bog witch for alot of people in controller. Never knew it was a thing on pc.... so try the bug tab too (on discord) they answer pretty quick
I'll rec something so maybe you'll understand better the problem
thanks for everything
Is it still possible to parry stagger long ranged attacks?
yep
@verbal sleet yes just have to time it correctly. Rocks, arrows, all can be parried.
Seems like I lost my touch after all this time, thanks for the answers!
is the farming, crafting etc. skill already in the game?
just a yes or no would be helpful ๐
Yes, it got pushed to live.
Indicating you the channel where you could get that information by yourself is even more helpful
i dont see those skills ingame...
Because you need to get one level minimum
What Rianu said. Try plucking mushrooms or crops and repairing or building with the hammer. They should appear quickly.
ye, now it works just fine. I thought i was going insane for a sec... thank u two
A bit late, but - the radius is (according to the wiki) 40-80m. I spawnproofed my base by making the base itself a 80x80m area, and then clearing and spawn proofing with workbenches, a square around it that's 240m per side, so that from the edge of the inner base, the distance to any the edge of the "perimeter" is at least 80m.
4 raids later, seems to be completely spawnproof.
Sometimes the raid starts while I'm at the "perimeter", but since the red circle is pretty big, I'll just rush to the inner base, thus putting at least 80m between me and any potential spawn.
In mistlands: If the ||dvergr have set up a small camp (just walls and some crates) around a giant skull||, will they become ||aggressive if I destroy the skull? Or does the skull count as scenery instead of a structure? Will they become hostile if I cut down trees within their ward?||
I know there is a new like cooking System but to me it seems like there is alot less food to craft in the cauldron... is that because of my low cooking skill or was this just changed to a other crafting station or upgrades. Why is that?
Mead bases have moved to the mead ketill. Raw fish, feasts and food that has to be baked in an oven are in the food preparation table.
thanks for the explaination
o/ my friend that plays on Linux canโt seem to join my server, but I can join his. He thinks it might be due to Playfab not loading? (He gets a message that it fails to load when he starts up the game)
Not on Linux myself, but this might help him? #linux message
preparing to fight bonemass and read up that sausages and deer stew is the average on what food i should have however i have neither of those recipes and i have the Cauldon and can only make boar jerky and jam
You need to farm some crops!
Might need some cauldron upgrades
Have you found turnip seeds?
For bonemass Iโd recommend using sausages, turnip stew and either muckshake or black soup. Swap health foods for serpent stew and meat if youโve killed a serpent, since those are better.
Deer stew is from the previous biome, so you should avoid using it for bonemass.
yh just started to plant some carrots and turnips, never planted before, also have no cauldron upgrades mostly forge or workbench, so looks like farming it is
Once you harvest turnips youโll be able to make a cauldron improvement
im guessing turnips take a couple of days?
I think they take around 2-3 days? You can sleep at noon to skip as much time as possible
gotcha, appreciate the help
How does poison dmg work against enemies, exactly?
Context: lvl 1spinesnap 72dmg (+5spirit) vs lvl 4 draugr fang (56dmg +20 poison) is used against seeker.
Seeker resists piercing, is neutral to poison, immune to spirit. I yhink they'd take half damage (36 vs 28) from spinesnap vs draugr fang, but how much and how will that 20 poison dmg calculate in?
can someone join my world to give me 2 carrots?
The 20 poison damage will be reduced randomly by your skill level (minimum and maximum are shown in yellow when hovering over it in the inventory), then that damage is the total damage dealt by the time the poison debuff ends.
So if you hit an enemy for 20 poison damage it will have lost 20 health when the debuff ends
Poison doesnโt stack like fire and spirit do, so damage is lost if you poison an already poisoned enemy again
Thanks! And enemies don't have armor to account for, so 56 vs 72 dmg is a difference of 16 dmg against a neutral opponent, not some "first deduct 50dmg from armor, so It's actually 6 vs 16 dmg" formula?
Enemies donโt have armor.
Thank you so much!
is it strongly recommended to use magic vs queen? or can u do it fine without?
Iโd recommend melee but magic can work well too
should i start making a new home base since i will be defeating bonemass today?
what weapon?
Krom, mistwalker and himminafl are all good for damaging her, and a demolisher and/or bile bombs could help for the enemies she spawns.
what about frostner?
Frostner would work well enough but the fight will be a little slower
Does it aggro Dvergr's if you cut down a tree or mine ancient remains within their ward area? or do they agro only for actual "buildings"?
And do they get mad if you break their stuff after you've destroyed the ward with a cart? meaning, can you start mining the remains after bashing in the ward, or is the ward's existence and their agro separate?
If you break the ward with a cart you are free to do whatever you want with their structures, but thatโs no fun.
Do you know if trees and ancient remains count as structures too, or if only "actual structures" count?
You can chop down trees and harvest ancient remains, although I've never tried at any of their little harvest sites, but I did harvest a skull yesterday that was right next to an active dvergr tower and they didn't bother me
I tried looking this up but our bogwitch doesn't have the|| serving tray||. How do we get this?
Is there a way to build in the ashlands without a shield generator or prevent stuff from turning to coal?
if you build with stone/marble/grausten, it would be fine. then whatever is inside is safe, like regular portals. Just have stone walls/roof
Stone roof?
Made of the stone you only find in Ashland.
Stone floor (regular) also counts as a roof.
hello, i need your help, guys
Just a couple of people from pc to host with my game, just a test. No need to chat vocal, no need to anything else. You just come in and just walk around. As soon as I see that I can hold two people in my session being the host, test is done. So it will not take long. I can give iron for pay ๐
help me decide pls what weapon to craft: mistwalker or himminafl
up until now, i've been a frostner/spear user
Iโd go with the mistwalker
i'd go too
why?
Hey bro can i chat with u
short wisp light radius, very nice three hit combo with double damage in third
The damage types work better in ashlands
ok thx
ok i see I get completely ignored... and it's already the second time. Can I at least know what's the problem? no trust at all? Honestly guys i cannot pay real money for such a service, even if we talk about log in, walk, and just go away, less of than 5 minutes of time required. I assume then even if playing together with people is impossible in valheim?
than I change my question ... let's forget about my less than 5 minutes test request ... how do you play with people online in this game?
oh wait sry u need me to join ur serv? @last kindle
it's just a test, 5 minutes, no need to even to risk your high rank character. I put on a host session, you enter, I look data and that's over. I want to play valheim with friends but i have to know if i can host. that's it
ya sure why not
ok, than.
Is there a way to unnequip a boss buff?
Just changing it for another
No, i mean leaving the boss buff slot empty. Is that possible?
Not without commands
setpower null
Ah i see
Thanks
I need some mod help. Are there any mods that enable a secondary atttack for the two handed clubs like stagbreaker?
Ah thanks for the referral
is frostner the #1 weapon for ashlands?
No.
It depends on what you're fighting. I'd bring a silver sword into ashlands because the spirit damage makes it incredibly effective against charred and it has a low stamina cost compared to newer weapons.
There is no objective #1 weapon for Ashlands.
Or for any whole biome
Iโd argue iron mace for swamps
But abominations are resistant to blunt
I'd argue the razor
I'd argue the NOKIA.
I do always invest in spending 6 wood to make a club before I kill bonemass
In terms of damage, Mistwalker is a straight upgrade.
Mistwalker
Nah its the antler pickaxe. 2 op
Hi fellow vikings, if my teammate is not close to me, he can't see the chat, is this supposed to work like this?
Yes.
@real inlet You can type /s before a message to shout it to everyone on the server
Do Dverg's agro as soon as you damage a structure, or only when you actually destroy a structure? So if you accidentally hit a marble pillar while fighting a seeker near their camp, is that instant war, or do they ignore it?
why?
btw cool evo
Damaging a structure will anger them
Has better dmg and reach than frostner
frostner has knockback and spirit dmg tho
dose that small gap makes a huge difference in structural integrity?
Edit it dose, thanks
check colors
If you want to use a mace, frostner will be the best option, but silver sword and mistwalker are better for actually killing things
Mistwalker has spirit too (upgrade it).
And knockback isn't as useful in some cases
If you already believe Frostner to be the best option for you, just use it. Asking us only to shoot down suggestions is pointless.
oh i didnt know that, thx
Mistwalker does the same frostner does but better except for the knockback
The mistwalker even has higher stagger on the secondary attack because the frostner is almost entirely elemental damage
aight so seems the consensus is that miistwalker is goated
Hello. Pike in the cauldron does not break down into raw fish? Can i do something to fix it?The raw fish icon does not even appear when the pike is in the inventory.
The raw fish is now made in food prep table ๐
TY. Didnt know about this change
no worries, it is very recent change ๐
in a similar spirit: mead bases are now made in the mede ketil ^^
Can you not cook fish on the spit? I wondered about that cus i randomly caught one that jumped on shore and didnt know how to cook it
Is there a method of farming Tar that isn't time consuming or painful ?
Respawning growths are very slow, it's best to find new tar pits
yeah, im farming by draining them but that's so annoying that best building material is locked behind this..
How to walk on lava?
Ride an asksvin, use basalt bombs to make temporary platforms, or use flametal build pieces for permanent platforms
Flametal? I only have poles, 4m and 2m
Are you free to join a server helping me in ashlands?
I believe i got all sources needed except that red stone in fortresses and fragments to build the rings
I still didn't find fader tho
Use the poles to plant into the lava since they don't melt, and then place a platform on top of it so it can't be melted by the lava.
Digging a drain up to the edge of the pit isn't that time consuming, but you could turn up the drop rate if you don't wanna have to deal with draining as many for more tar
do infested mines always have a secret room?
No, not necessarily
ok thx
infested mines are probably most grindiest dungeon in the game
in terms of finding them, yeah. the dungeon itself is awesome imo. swamp crypts are the worst... just mining zzzz
although swamp is my favourite biome, i must agree that getting iron is most grindy thing in the entire game
ayy another swamp fan
My favorite biome is plains, nice and open
ya if they improved on crypts to make it less afk-hold-down-mouse-button-gameplay, then it'd be a super good biome
Do you mine with an antler pickaxe?
same and its a nice change of pace growing flax + fighting camps instead of the usual ore mining
ya before i get iron
Once you have an iron pickaxe mining scrap piles is very easy and fast
Yeh i typically skip bronze weapons altogether
yo can i use fire res mead and meadium healingmead at once ??
ya
Fair, I usually do, and did this last playthrough I've been doing, but I didn't actually use it this time. Was able to find the witch right next to several crypts so it was a breeze getting iron this go round
so best potions for yagluth would be medium healing ones right ?
and fire res , along with silver sword ?
Yeh pretty much, don't forget some stamina mead or tasty mead though
Not with the same effects.
As long as the mead isn't the same as the other types then yes
ohhh,so i can have one healin one res and one stamina ??
Pretty much
cool didnt know that ,that mordor fight took way too long
is there potions to amplify damage we do or another consumables ??
Lingering mead cancels the usage of normal stamina/hp/eitr restore effect until it runs out and using normal restore mead cancels the usage of lingering mead until cooldown is off.
so when i use med stamina mead why does it have red cross on it ??
Nope
like its not working ??
They each have their own cooldown
The x is to show you can't use more of that type
It is the cooldown when you can't use another same type restoring (or lingering) mead.
here
Yes exactly
so its working then ??
Yes, but you already have full stamina so it's not really doing anything
ohhhh
After cooldown is off you can use another same type mead.
It worked 14 seconds ago when you used it. It restore an amount of stamina upon use and you can't use another for 2 minutes after that
so meads have cooldown before i use the same type again ?? i can consume excat same again n again right like i drank frost med when it wore off immediately
Correct, when effect/cooldown worns off you can use the same mead again.
is this a good progress going back from the swamp for the first time with this stuffs, do I need more?
That's pretty much exactly as much as you can carry on a carve so yes
what would u suggest i craft/build second, i'm thinking on crafting mace first so ye
Preparation table, nails (you will see why once you craft them), an iron pickaxe at least level 2 (because you will need to mine more iron and that will help a lot and it's also necessary for progression) and your favorite weapon type and maybe a buckler
for buckler, should i keep my level 2 bronze or make an iron one
If you have bronze already it's probably good enough to parry anything you can encounter in the swamp but the iron one will be useful later on
just note that the round shield of the next biome does the iron buckler's job better than it already
I'd argue with Banded Shield being good enough for both blocking and parrying during Swamps and even in next biome.
On Normal difficulty at least.
I do the iron buckler for the golems, fuling berserkers and loxes, silver shield does the same job though, I just want it earlier
alr thanks, i'll see what my mats will get me through for now
Stone cutter should be made at one point, will unlock some more comfort, a fire pit that look better and give you a free forge upgrade
Yeah craft Stone wheel on Stonecutter for one new Forge upgrade. @crimson lotus
oh okay, will do that thanks
Stonecutter then needs roof just like a workbench to be used to craft the stone wheel.
im gonna need a better house for everything..
That was inevitable, might even happen twice
If I can recommend some earlier game storage option (if you have found Haldor), barrels have been quite useful: #screenshots message
Hey, do tamed creatures continue to lay eggs even if they are not in the active area?
are barrels like chest? and nope i haven't found haldor yet
No, you have to be on the same area for them to continue laying eggs.
Yes, they have 12 storage space each and you can put 3 of them in 2x1 area, which gives the most storage space on that area compared to other chests (but it costs more wood and the material bought from Haldor).
Made a whole wall filled with barrels ๐ they are really good
