I have about 40 serpent stew in reserve, I just don't use it after plains. The difference is really small
And serpent stew is significantly harder to get

I found her hint location at a castle but I'm not sure if there's more than one. I know they can be in caves but from my experience it's only in the very very rare caves.

I managed to find a Moder a few steps from spawn on my most recent world, but I feel like that's unlikely. Best bet is just finding a big mountain and exploring for vegvisirs

I checked 5 mountains before I found Moder, I found her once I started looking further away
3 were close, and 2 were far. The 5th was quite far away, but I found her much easier
I actually found her spawning ground first, so I got lucky in that respect.

Hi every one, i had a question about multi platform sistem. If my friend has valheim on xbox and i have it on steam, can we play together?
From what I know, Valheim has made it so crossplay does work, as long as all players are on the same version. Could be wrong, but that's what I've found out after researching

The one thing to be aware of is that XBox doesn't play nicely with mods most of the time, so it's generally recommended to not use mods if there's a chance you have been.
for some reason the hearth refuses to snap to the center of a room, regardless if the room is 5 tiles or 4 tiles wide? is this intentional?
maybe try different snapping modes with "e"? it can be tough lining stuff up though yea

i typically free hand shift-click hearths where I want them, since I'm too lazy to make snapping points to center it.
Hearths snap to the fire center part of their model as if it were a floor piece, so they overlap by the stone edge on anything they snap to.
the fire part isn't aligned with the floor either
I still believe it as a 2m x 4m box that it snaps to on the bottom, even if it's not perfectly aligned. It is pretty much centered on the hearth, though.
If you use one of those 1x1 floor tiles in the corner and try snapping to that. Otherwise just shift and eyeball it

Their nests (like you’re looking at) has an egg always. That one seems somewhat buried tho which is a bit weird
Ok, so it's a server. That can happen when there's a desync between the server and the client is what it looks like to me, there used to be an old terrain offset bug and it almost looks like that's what you're experiencing

They're somewhat common. If you're not on Moder's mountain I would only haul them around if you want them for decoration

what food is very good for mountain?
Starting, you will probably have turnip stew, sausages, maybe blood soup or something similar. As you start getting mountain resources you will be able to upgrade soon. Silver unlocks another cauldron upgrade.

There are further upgrades, just like there are for the workbench and such.

Trying to get my items back are proving quite difficult. Died twice now just trying to get it back, due to deathsquito's 1 shotting me
Yeah... skeeters will do that. They're glass cannons though, so if you see them before they see you they die easily, and when they attack they fly straight at you so it's easy to predict with a spear or bow.

Could try and make a Finewood bow or flint spear before corpse running. Those should take care of deathsquitoes quite well
Once you unlock it it will stay open. But you need to unlock each one separately.

The root chest is brilliant against the deathsquitos, as well as bonemass power. If you're just running naked and hungry to recover your body you will certainly have a bad time.

Well, you can ask for help from the body recovery squad, but beyond that you're probably in a position where you need to reequip somehow in order to survive the ordeal.

Forever. There is no time limit.

They stay until fully looted, and when that happens you get the Corpse Run bonus which is a boost in your weight carrying capacity, stamina regen and such for a few minutes to let you get out of dodge, but it doesn't help if you die before getting there 😉

I always keep tiers of my old stuff on hand so I can do those kinds of recoveries. I've learned the hard way by being naked with no anything. Plus I make a ton of food. It's actually a lot easier to survive in higher biomes if you have appropriate food from the biome even if you're in lower biome gear.

yeah I didnt have a backup plan like that, and died on Moder's mountain.. which was butts to get back to without being seen by her and one shot again
Also in the future try to keep some good food at base, teleporter to get nearby to where you might die, a bit of backup gear, etc. if you do not feel comfortable doing naked corpse runs or travelling far to get back to your corpse
Yeah... can you take some time and make more of the good food? Food is critical to surviving almost anything

I always overmake my food, and if I get myself down to a stack of my current best food in storage at my base I consider myself out and making more is my focus.

Yeah, they'll stay where you left them. Go slow and take them one at a time. The root chest will really help.

With the harnesk and a couple other pieces of armor they should hopefully only do 10-15 HP per hit, not enough to stagger you. At least lox are deaf and dumb and you can outrun them.

as long as its daytime and the weather is good, bring enough stone and wood, you can make a chain of fires
It will do consistent damage, so if anything delays you you will be in trouble. But yes, campfires are a good way to stave it off if it's too much trouble to go back and get potions.
I recovered one of the bodies I died with that had 1 mead
That will give you the corpse run boost too, so you might be in pretty decent shape. I've heard of people intentionally littering their return path with gravestones so they can keep getting the boost.

Yeah, figure out some boar meat. Sausages are great and cheap considering how many you get from a single piece of boar meat.

The trick with that is to kill literally everything in an area of the meadows. Deer, necks, greylings, everything, and then cycle through. There can only be so many things spawned in an area, and if none of them are boars it will stay that way until there are slots open.
Or set up a boar farm 😉 That's also handy.

I've got a question, I wanna make a lox pie in real life, and am wondering what would be a good comparison meat? I assume they're gamey, with a diet of primarily berries - very muscular, with a lizardy sort of vibe. Current Idea is Minced Crocodile and Venisson, but I wanna hear some other thoughts.

i'd suggest you'd get different cuts depending on the location, so just a beef pie would do fine, put whatever Valheim veggies you like in with it, a nice gravy, and voila

Looking for help with a lost character. In managed saves, it shows up as "Deleted" with 5 backups. I've tried restoring the last file and also moving it out of the cloud but it still doesn't show up in the character selection list. I'm sure this has been discussed before but if someone could point me to where I can sort this out, I'd appreciate it.
Possibly someone in #mods-issues could answer

Unfortunately that sounds like data corruption, and I'm not sure there are really any other steps you can take to fix it. Best advice would be to recreate the character and use devcommands to get it roughly to the state of your previous one
How rare are infested mines? I've been exploring for quite some time now and I can't find one.
Somewhat rare. I’d say akin to frost caves. Both in terms of visibility and frequency of spawning

There’s two types though so look out for both. One entrance can be in the basement of a ruined dvergr marble outpost, the other has marble stairs and a wisp torch out front leading to it. Once you get more used to it you might be able to spot the ones with stairs from afar too because I think the rock formation the stairs lead to always looks the same
Its happened twice now that when I park my longboat that it disappears when I go foraging. This time I caught it happening and it was taking constant 10 ticks of damage and then suddenly breaks. This happened in the plains, and I didn't see any monster nearby after the ship broke. It's a hosted server but im not sure whats causing it at all, anyone else have this experience?
They can be hard to find, there is also what I label as "fake mines" which are abandoned Dvergr structures with no dvergr but also no mine entrance in the middle, the one with the stairs always have a mine in there (long stairs going up)
One Mistlands I found about 4 Dvergr outposts, 6 fake mines and 2 real mines, that was on the unlucky side

I hope there is someone who can perhaps assist me.
I have been playing Valheim on a steam account I created for my dad. This is because he always plays Plants vs Zombies, but I only owned the game on my own steam account, so I let him use my account to play.
I have now however, gotten Plans vs Zombies for him on his steam account as well as made up the game progress. Where this becomes an issue for me now though is that I have made substantial progress in Valheim with friends, on the other steam account.
Is there anyway that I can transfer the Valheim server, with progress made (Including settlements built etc) to my personal steam account?
yes, you can copy the world files and transfer them to your Valheim worlds/local folder

if the saves are in the cloud you'll need to make a local copy by moving them to local storage, and back, before you copy them, and yes you can do the same thing on a dedi if they let you upload the world files to it i think

Just place obliterator on the ground or natural stone. I did it on my swamp base, it didn't damage it
yeah but if you put it with it's flat back to wooden buildings, it damages the building

it was outside, just backed onto a building so it was tidy and not randomly in the middle of my base. i've now put it somewhere away from structures so I don't have to rebuild stuff
iron cage pieces don't take dmg afaik
maybe im on the unlucky side, all im finding are dvergr outposts and dvergr ruins that has a tree in the middle

The boat taking damage like that is a desync issue with the server. Only way to keep it safe is to take it apart, or park far enough away that it won't be loaded while you are out exploring. Best to take portal mats along, put down the portal when you land, then you can take the boat apart and store it at home. Or stick the parts in a chest.

It is super easy to miss a mine in the mist. One sign there could be one is several seekers turning up, if you get attacked by like three or more there is a good chance a mine might be close.
I don't think you can really fix it. Maybe relogging will temporarily help, but it can happen again any time.
I am the admin for a dedicated server. I took my character into the Ashland's accidentally. So I moved my character back towards the center of the world logged off, brought the server down, restored the world backup from before the moment that I traveled into the ashlands. I then logged back in and found that the place that I logged in seemed new. The only remaining remnant of my experience is that the map belonging to my character still shows where I traveled to at the tip of the ashlands even though the world would not have loaded. What's the cleanest way to rectify this? I'm okay clearing my characters map but I'd rather not if I can avoid it. I want to not update the cartography table until I know the best course of action
As long as your world itself was restored before you entered the Ashlands, there's nothing to worry about. If you want to be completely clean, you should be able to restore a backup of your own character from before the incident as well, but the map exploration on your character is only visual.

Yes, there is a placeholder, but if you load any of the biome in, the part wont get updated
Yes. There are currently ashlands there, but they will be completely different in the update, fully terraformed and changed. But if you explore it now it will make it so new content doesn't show up when it updates
You could use the UpgradeWorld mod, lets you reset chunks I'm pretty sure

There is no current testing version of Ashlands, this is all dev messaging. But there will be, hopefully Soon(tm).

The Deep North and Ashlands and even Mistlands were all generated as placeholders from basically the start of the game
They are at the very north and very south edges of the map, so it's not super surprising
Stay away from the north and south and anything you do in your world should be perfectly safe in prep for the Ashlands. The one advice I heard is that maybe don't beat the Mistlands boss so you can get the full progression experience, but anything before that is fair game (and even if you do beat her, everything will still work, items will change as needed)

I only have the Altar, haven't gone there though, it's on the opposite side of my world from where I have been exploring Mistlands

If you haven't been there yet I won't spoil it for you. Just investigate it thoroughly, and it wouldn't hurt to bring materials for a stonecutter and maybe a forge

Thank you, I forgot that the character saves are local and I forced mine to save locally instead of through steam. It was much easier to go back to a character save from a few days prior after dumping my inventory and then setting my skills back to what they were when I made the mistake. Now my map is clean for our cartography table and my own sanity
If you look at the release history. Mistlands went to public test build two weeks before it was released publicly.
That doesn't say anything about when Ashlands will be out as we don't know when Ashlands will be on the PTB and we don't know how long it will stay there.
The only things we know are that a: There's currently a patch on the PTB which needs finishing, and b: Ashlands will be out during the first half of 2024 (unless something unexpected happens and it is delayed).
I'm not saying it's gospel or predicting a date but I do think it does say something about when ashlands will be released. Ashlands is a new biome in the last time a new biome was released (mistlands) it was roughly two weeks after it went to ptb. Sure, that doesn't mean it's definitive but if the process is similar then a betting man might find solace and saying two weeks from release to PTB. I don't think that observation should be so easily dismissed.

The only thing you'll achieve by claiming it's 2 weeks from ptb release to full release is a bunch of people claiming they were promised two weeks (people can and will misread any guesses as "devs promised").

I'm sorry, I fundamentally disagree. The release of mistlands says something about the development process and releasing Ashlands does involves a development process from the same group and so things can be inferred. Not predicted but inreferred
I think it's likely that they'll use the experience of Mistlands PTB/release to improve on whatever can be improved on Ashlands ptb/release which could easily lead to longer or shorter time on the ptb.
There's also no way of knowing what kinds of bugs or stuff that needs tweaking for whatever reason people find and how hard they are to fix.

No, you have to be nearby for it to progress. Leaving pauses it and they have to eat again to continue taming.

Could still be a night spawn if you trap it at night. If it's a normal spawn at least it tames all the time.
They will continue to tame during the day time as long as they've started taming at night time

yeah i already tamed a lvl 2 wolf and another one but it took them like 1 hour each and i saw only it took only like 30 min so i thought i was doing something wrong
i just love getting my tames killed by random raids 🙂
It takes 30 minutes of uninterrupted taming.
i now only have 1 hen , boar and 1 wolf left 😦
Or rather, 30 minutes of taming, any interruption will add however long it takes for them to start taming again to the total time.
Keep a few spares in raid proof boxes.
back before mistlands i upgraded my boar den to stone for this exact reason
then in this playthrough after making the same stone castle i've had to upgrade it further with cage walls to protect from ranged attacks too
it was supposed to be a fancy house for my precious little piggies and now it looks like porcine guantanamo
had the same with a stone wall until a slime jumped over it 🙂

Yes, the boar defence so good even the farmer can't get in.
my recommendation is stone walls, cage for windows, and definitely roofing, because from swamp onwards there are creatures with enough vertical mobility to be a problem. stone roof could be a strat but would need strong support, i've gotten on fine with wood roofing though
Should have a double set of walls (with some distance) too as the tames will flock to the wall where the enemy is and aoe damage effects go through walls.
what kind of distance? 2 metres between the inside edges of the walls, or more?
I don't typically tame animals but I'd say like at least 4 meters. Shamen like spitting poison through walls, and trolls have quite the reach
Troll log attack is ten metres (and goes through earth walls).
Hello, I have a question. I am currently playing with my friends on the server that I started for about a week. When the Ashlands update comes, will it come to this server as well or will we have to start from scratch?

I was thinking of an awesome build combo for a second story mixed with my boar pen, would raising earth walls into a hill roofed with floors to become the second story mess with the animals below the floors? Or would they be fine? Ill send a concept in #building-screenshots

from what i know boars don't need open sky, they just need food and distance from fire, so you should be okay. your idea sounds super cool, if my terrain permitted it i'd want to do the same lol
on the subject of boars, i think my spawn island might be too small to find stars on it, so i have a couple questions:
- is there any way to measure distance reliably/accurately in game?
- there is an island nearby that should have the spawns I need, should i try and bridge it or is there another way to move tames?
- Id say not really, other than using build pieces, but that’s not realistic.
- There’s not a way to move tamed boars easily- some have had success using boats, but my preferred method is to lure wild boar to where I want them tamed.
yeah that's my plan, to lure, THEN tame. guess i'm gonna have to build a bridge about 300-500 metres long lol
I think the F2 menu will give you your in-game coordinates, you can just do some trigonometry to figure out your distance

oh yeah that's in the f5 menu, can't recall if it's a dev or player but you can use that. after my first playthrough in my first world i ended up doing it a whole lot for teleporting and looking around

starred boars on the wiki says 800 metres from world centre, on here people have said it's from spawn
does anyone know which one is correct? if it's world centre (0,0) then i might have an easy time getting them, if it's spawn i'm in for a misery
should be from world center. but spawn is typically very close to the center (iirc, spawn is in the center unless there's ocean there. If there's ocean, it spawns as close to as possible)
my spawn and base is about 450m or so off the world center, and there's ocean there instead
the land i can access on foot is pretty small, all of it is inside a 600 m radius of spawn, but enough lies just outside the 800m radius from world center that i have a chance

the land i can access on foot is pretty small, all of it is inside a 600 m radius of spawn, but enough lies just outside the 800m radius from world center that i have a chance

exploring a large section of meadows is the best way to find starred boars further out, and also killing the no stars you come across makes a starred spawn more likely, the last time i went searching for them i found a 2 star boar within an hour
unfortunately it got killed by a troll raid i unwittingly allowed to happen by not clearing my workbenches 😅 , then i found another after like 40 more mins of searching
once i'd got them up and running it actually took more time breeding enough to take them on a boat than finding them
2 star wolves take a lot longer to find, you can be waiting in the mountains for in-game weeks to see one
weird, I feel like I've never found a 2 star boar that wasn't from a boar shrine. And I almost never go out in the mountains at night but I've seen a 2 star wolf once or twice
pretty lucky with the boars, i've only ever seen a 2 star at one of those runestones once
I do have a boat, my problem is bringing the boar back to my base once i've found it. my island is small enough that only one tiny section of meadows exists on it outside the 800m radius, the closest island is a long walk and short swim or a very long swim/short boat ride.
i was going to build a 500m bridge but i'm not certain i'll be able to support it, and it'll require thousands of wood, not to mention however much core wood i'll need for the supports or stone to raise the ground up, if that's even possible. it would take forever but it'd keep me occupied while I avoid having to fight bonemass
i've heard you can boat tamed animals back, but I don't know exactly how and i've heard it's very risky to do
it's nowhere near as bad as you think lol, it just takes a bit of planning to get right, first you want to make sure you leave a few spares behind in case of an accident, then you scout the area close to the boat to make sure no mobs are near, load them on with the harpoon, sail them back to yr base, and try to avoid any mobs that might aggro them along the way
hm. i'll give it a go, beats spending the next 40 years building or hoping i find one on the tiny strip

Not worth it, just put down a portal so you can return whenever you want, then you don't have to waste massive amounts of time and effort struggling to get it back to base and you get the added benefit of it not being at risk of getting killed by raids (as long as you don't place 3 or more base structures near the pen).
ppl like having them at home, they can breed them while they are doing other stuff
incorrect - not having to portal around is a bonus for me, plus the way i build my portal network means it's annoying to do it that way

All? That's a list... lots of the potions do, frost specifically. You can put Dvergr circlets from Haldor on stands and armor stands, too. Brenna's trophy isn't bad, I think golem trophies give off a bit of light, dragon eggs...
yes but all of them are bad in comparison to wisp torches and dverger lamps, of which i prefer the lamps as the blue glow from wisp torches becomes obnoxious in large quantities
Fair. You've also got the different iron torches you can make as well if you want green. Mixing the light colors is pretty cool.
just gotta be aware of the fueling requirements for those as well, you don't want to be spending all yr time running after torches burning out xD

Nice thank you for the tips - I didn't even think about potions and I forgot about the headlamp. I've read it makes a cool spotlight effect but I've never gotten one from Haldor yet. I'm still a noob and haven't fought Yagluth yet but I'll make sure to try out the wisplight stuff too

none of them are particularly stellar in terms of lighting however, i find them more useful for colour emphasis
like surt for red glow, dragon egg for pink, etc
and swamp keys are relatively easy to collect in large amounts at late game
I kinda like the way the plain ol' wall sconces light up an area. They seem to be brighter than torches, for sure. 🙂
i wanted to line my "electrical lines" with himmin afl's, so they sparkled all the way along, but the tiny sparks aren't really enough to even make out in a shot sadly
ended up using swamp keys instead, and the effect is much better looking
found my boi James Hameron on the edge of a mountain biome, penned him in and dropped the fruit with howls in the background, ran off as soon as possible, will come back later to see if he's mine or the wolves'

yeh risky, if you can, take some stone and make the pen with solid walls, that way nothing will really bother it, drakes if yr near mountains but i'd try to avoid those spots xD
a lot better with just a boar chasing you than a wolf or drake
sneaking around the boar to check the tameness occasionally is also great sneak training tbh

I have a problem where my eitr refinery is unbalanced or something. Whenever I smelt 20 sotf tissue and sap, I only get 19 refined eitr and there will always be 1 sap or soft tissue left in the machine
smelter used to do that too, some materials took 31 seconds to process but each fuel took 15 seconds to burn through, left this constant mismatch until the numbers lined up, which they'd only do once before being off by 1 for however long again
Yes, this is kinda of a bug. You can try and rebuild it but everyone has the same issue I think
You should get all the refined eitr, that leftover number must be visual only
I get the 20 refined eitr out of a refinery and "1" still shows in the sap slot
I heard that there’s a slight mismatch to sap and soft tissue usage i.e. 20 refined eitr requires 20 soft tissue and 20.1 sap.
I always just make sure i have an extra sap on hand.

Hello! I'm new to in-Valheim animal rearing. Do I need a landmass with all biomes on it in order to create a base with all animal types present?
Animals can be bred outside the biome they spawn in, if that's what you're asking.

You can swim it over (with a saddle) or have it in a boat. It will try to eat any serpents it sees though.

Is player based raids available for dedicated servers? I've searched discord, the wiki, and google and been having a hard time finding if it is. Lots of info showing for single player and how to set those options if you're playing the game normally and hosting a regular multiplayer session, but I haven't found anything on dedicated servers. I really miss websites and wikis.
If you enable it in-game it should stay enabled when hosting the dedicated server
That sounds like when you boot the game and then click host a server, rather than running the dedicated server.

Dedicated servers generate a world when you run it. Again, you don't start a dedicated server through the regular game.

Idk if I'm tripping or if my game is just being weird, but instead of swinging tools and weapons the direction my character is facing, my character now turns the direction the camera is facing then attacks and it's never done this before, anyone else having this problem?

Lol if i ever utilize them maybe, I'm not generally jumping around too much when fighting though. But now i have to keep track of where my camera is at all times while fighting, which is tedious and makes it more difficult while already being on very hard lol
I've been practicing jump attacks a lot in my current playthrough, the ability to move well while in the middle of an attack animation is so powerful

Trees are good to get the timings down when you start. Try to land the hit at the moment you touch the ground, you won't want to swing over an enemy's head.

It does make slow attacking weapons quite good, as well as weapons that already have significant movement components (specifically knife secondary)

How does it help with a knife secondary? That already moves mid-animation.

I usually hold block if I'm not low on stamina to keep my player facing forwards so it shouldn't affect me too much

It's enough flax, but likely not enough barley. It stays useful for quite a while into the Mistlands and gets used very quickly with lox pies and bread.

anyone good with mods? cus odins ship has this lil issue
since the latest update, it is loading endlessly (after 8min i stopped it and tried again without success); if i start a new world, it loads in very quick. before, it has always loaded in very quick, too. is this a common problem and is there a fix?
Ask for help with mods in #mods-issues , but since there was a recent update many mods will be broken until the mod authors fix things.

Reinstalling the game doesn't remove mods, it just reinstalls the game. Any other files added to the Valhiem folder are unaffected.

Using F2 ive managed to get that instances seem to be increasing/Decreasing by 1000ish give or take at once which i think is causing the stutters?
That's possible... do you have XMP turned on for your machine, or is it a prebuilt of some kind?

Yeah, for sure. What is the render scaling set to in your settings? If it's set to Automatic, you might try setting it to Native or a set percentage and see if that changes things

Strange. Do you have any screen recording or maybe performance monitoring software in the background? Sometimes stutters can be caused by other programs using resources.

I run on linux but your mileage should more or less be the same on windows

a 4070 will tell you it's temperatures through monitoring, is it within a reasonable spec? Same with processor, it should have sensors on board.

If it were me, I'd take a step back from Valheim itself, and benchmark some other heavy games and see if the trouble follows. If it does, it's not Valheim

If you haven't been messing with the nvidia settings, you probably didn't change any defaults. But, in the settings there is a specific option to change what type of render the card does. You can also set it's preference of (high quality vs high performance)
and, have it supercede game settings, because games can override some of it
From the Windows Start menu, select Control Panel, then Nvidia control panel

Found something that makes me feel incredibly dumb... i do apologise for wasting your time, it wasnt helping before but now using Vulkan seems to help it and reduce the stutter quite a bit

for me switching to Vulkan, which is quite suprising as 40's typically favour Direct X in terms of perfoamnce

Still make sure you double-check for background processes, those can often cause weird stuttering, but glad that Vulkan seems to alleviate it.
After a little more Testing Best approach is
Vulkan
-Enable Fast Vsync in NVCP additionally enable a frame limiter in the NVCP
-disable valheims Vsync and Put frame limit in game to unlimited
as now rather than having stutters coming in a burst ill get a slight bump of just one, compared to the screenshot i sent you earlier on

ahh, good catch. Vulkan ties to what I was mentioning earlier, whether or not the card is using opengl, d3d, vulkan lol. I forgot mentioning that one
My same hardware on Windows ran without vulkan and had great framrate, worse with it on. That hardware in linux runs vulkan shaders and it performs better than opengl. lol whatever works
I wonder if you're getting heat issues with those symptoms, Vulkan is more efficient so might just be generating less heat on the CPU or GPU with those settings.
Just micro-heat issues, the chip downclocks to cool down for a touch, and then kicks back up
vulkan is technically the best option, if you can run it well

yeah vulkan is one of those ones where it is either very good for you or unnoticeable from Directx
with this card i had a problem with another game that forcing it to use Dx12 when the game was made using Dx9

Have you tried opening the server through steam? That should check for updates.

Hello guys... so I'm building something which has wood supports into water, I see that those supports are getting damage from water, does that damage go all the way through it getting broken or there's a limit? Kinda realizing that my bridge might have a destruction timer 💀
My understanding is that buildings can onl go to 50% damage by environmental sources. Only players/Mobs can destroy structure

Joining the world with a different character or having the game crash would be a couple of reasons why you can't see previously explored areas. Beyond that can't think of anything else, especially without more info (sending a screenshot of what you're seeing in #screenshots might help to understand what's going on a little better).

you need him to be calm, so the best way is to hit him with the harpoon, then wait until the ! drops, then he'll be relatively docile for loading onto the boat
oh okay. does feeding affect anything?
drag him up steps and across boards and then use the hammer to deconstruct the board he's stood on (you can do this while he's still harpooned)
you can also drive the boat with harpoon still attached, as long as he's not pulling the line it should be fine for the whole trip
it will restore some of his health and give him regen ticks, but they are best dealt with once you've reached home
aight, i did everything, as soon as I broke the stuff surrounding him he still fled as fast as possible and is now under the boat

once he's in calm state he should stay that way unless something else is bothering him

So I have some question about creature spawn mechanics. For context, I have an island that is about 75m in diameter that’s a meadows biome. It appears to spawn deer, boar, and other meadows creatures at a pretty alarming rate.
- How far must you be for an animal/creature to spawn?
- Does debris (rocks, trees, etc) affect spawning in any way?
- Do dirt paths have an effect on spawning? How about terraforming?
- Do necks spawn exclusively in water?
- Not sure, I think it's a couple hundred meters though. 2) No. 3) No 4) Not in, but I think they need to be near. I think it might be altitude more than specifically water.
- it's the other way round. Mobs spawn 40-80m from the player.

also for 2), if it touches ground and covers it mobs can't spawn there, however if there is even a tiny patch of terrain inside a rock, mobs can and will spawn there

It’s the opposite, I’m trying to maximize boar spawning. So currently, I’m killing everything to try and make sure more boar spawn, but I’m wondering if that’s necessary.

hey, what dictates the rate at wich mobs with more stars appear? in my solo world i playe don a while ago for example, i barely encountered any 1 star, though i played like 100 days, but i just started a new world with a friend, not even 10 days in and we must have had like 10 1star deers/boars, about the same amount of 1star greylings and 2 2stars greylings, wich seems a lot to me, or is it normal?
it's an rng roll, based on a few factors like distance from spawn, total number of mobs of that type per chunk, etc
obviously on the whole seeing lots of starred mobs should be rarer, but you will inevitably get pockets where they seem to all pop at once
World modifiers can change that too.
distance from world centre (co-ords 0,0 ) not spawn, while usually close they can vary significantly enough to make things "interesting"

You need 5 stone and 2 wood. Campfires can’t be placed on wood.

What seems to be the problem?
You pick up sticks and stones from the ground so you can break some bones.
Incidentally that will also let you chop wood so you can build a workbench and start your first tiny house that will provide you cover from the rain, a place to sleep and cook you food, do leave a space in the roof so the smoke can get out.
Building is a learning process just keep trying and you will figure it out there are a few tutorials on youtube.
Food is either eaten raw but you can prepare some food over a fire or in a cauldron.
Food is rather important because you will only ever have a small base pool of health and stamina.
Food is divided in 4 categories, stamina, health, mixed and eitr (eitr is end game so don't worry about it for now)
Stamina lets you dodge more, fight longer and run longer.
Health is for surviving the attacks you can't dodge, what you can block and how good you can stagger also depends on health.
I would advice taking 2 health and 1 stamina food if you go melee, for bow or hit and run tactics 2 stamina and 1 health.

Yeah, D&D doesn't really break skills down quite the same way Valheim does, so it'd be really hard to map it over for proficiencies and such. Best bet would be probably a barbarian or fighter build with some dips into maybe sorcerer for magic or ranger for ranged proficiencies

You could absolutely make some home brew content for DnD though, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone’s made a 5e stat block for greydwarves and their variants. Even a lot of the weapons could just be magic weapons- for example Frostner could just be a +2 Warhammer that deals additional frost damage or something.

Crashing has been largely an individual thing, not a universal issue. There was one memory leak fixed with the patch, but I'm not aware of large-scale crashing issues ever existing.

That's usally because of mods... nothing in Valheim displays the Unity GUI.
Only crashes I ever got were because I had an old graphics card that wasn't up to the task. Haven't had crashes since I got a newer one.
We dont use mods, its a Unity window with like aloading bar only displays for a moment

If you ever had mods installed at any point that can happen, the mod manager still injects itself and can definitely cause those issues, even if you think you turned them all off. It's just the nature of how the mods work.

you can either harpoon it to land, or lead it to land fight it in the shallows if you dont have a harpoon

this may sound out of left field, but uninstalling a game called Trimurti online fixed that issue (that started after i installed it) for me. If you have any new games you just installed, try uninstalling them and see if it helps @fleet wing
They still naturally spawn around, but their spawn points around/in troll caves don’t respawn

You could also do the spawn prevention trick of throwing down campfires or slightly burying workbenchs around your base so they have a lower chance of spawning close and running to break your walls

How can I clean all valheim cache? I installed a mod and it broke the game, now mistlands creatures spawn everywhere, and mistlands itself is completly empty. I deleted all files and reinstalled the game, nothing changed. May be there are some cache files left? Or mod could mess with the save file?

That said, mods most certainly can mess with save files, so that is also possibly just broken at this point without an easy way to fix it.
The good news is that new areas that aren't discovered are generated new, so you can likely just go find some new Mistlands areas and explore those instead once you fix all the mod stuff.

Yeah... Windows 7 is likely explicitly not supported by Playfab since all support for that OS stopped 4 years ago, they do note that in Playfab's releases. It's probably just the general library updates that happened with Valheim that finally obsoleted it.

That Playfab is used only for crossplay I suppose? Then it's not a big deal.
Yes, only Crossplay, you should be able to still use the Steam networking and such. But I don't believe there's a way to suppress that message with your setup.
I have an issue with my ingame map. The map does not correspond to the world. For example the starting location is in the ocean on the map. All pins are on the correct spot relative to my position. I havent determined if the map is correct but with an offset or just completly wrong. Im playing unmodded through game pass.
There should be some map cache files in your world save folder that you can delete, and that will fix the minimap, IIRC.
#dedicated-server might be a better place to ask/search for resources on your issue

Meat will float of course, if all you care about is the food then this is a non-issue. Jumping on the head will at minimum get you the trophy if it drops.

In general they need 1m between centers. But there's not really a reliable way of forcing that except for some planting grid mods.
I generally just hit C to toggle slow walking and walk backwards planting at a reasonable cadence, a couple that are too close isn't the end of the world.

Those rows look about right to me. If you have some spare seeds you can experiment to be sure, they will turn brown after a few seconds saying they need more room if they're too close.

Good to know. There used to be a bug with low framerates causing that, but it should have been fixed as far as I know. If you find a way to reliably reproduce it the devs would definitely be interested.
I haven't personally experimented with farming all that much but normal walking sideways and spamming click can get the spacing down much faster, but can skew the rows into weird angles

Ye just keep exploring. Swamp is fairly common. Won’t be right around spawn (middle of map) but if you out to the distance of where Elder is and explore around you should quickly find some
Remember to bring a portal
There is a decent risk you’ll find a swamp where the key isn’t much use, but if so just look for another!
yeah, I slept on portals for a little while, but now that I know about them, I'm using them a lot
While exploring try to avoid the plains biome, it’s a place you need to go to much later.
