weather was fine then suddenly im in a storm ;(

hollow mantle
#

If you capsize, please take a screen shot. 😉

marble roost
#

I dunno how likely a raft is to capsize, rarely ever used one. It can def get destroyed out on the water tho

lunar cedar
#

you could definitely eat another bite

bright reef
#

ok maybe rafts too op i saw my guy literally submerged under water and im still able to row this raftl ol

hollow mantle
#

Raft is perfectly fine in early game...even in late game. Like I said earlier, any strat that gets you to the next biome is viable.

#

It would be neat if you put too much weight on the boats that they would sink.

bright reef
#

this was a fuckin bad idea

there's no Ocean boss yet, and not confirmed to be a plan for that either

lusty sigil

I also warned him a few days ago Ragnar_laugh

#

Fk around and find out

hollow mantle
#

Sometimes the only way to learn is through experiencing it yourself.

lusty sigil
#

I haven't build a raft in 2 years and I plan on keeping that tradition alive. Karve or we riot

lunar cedar
#

you can be damaged by fish, but you can't kill them... just fish them and suffocate them out of water which is killing but definitely not combat

hollow mantle
#

I use rafts to cross narrow bits of ocean...perhaps when you see land in sight from another shoreline. And we've sailed close to the shoreline with rafts, but I can see how it can be dangerous if you venture out into the deep ocean.

lusty sigil
#

Everyone builds a raft, flies a little too close to the sun and learns. It's a process we all do, at least but usually only once.

hollow mantle
#

I disagree...

lusty sigil
#

The problem is, no matter what if you are in an ocean biome with raft you are already too far away from shore to swim, if a serpent finds you it's a guarenteed death lol

#

Because Ocean biome specifically is set to be a ways away from shores

hollow mantle
#

As soon as you see the serpent, you need to head to shore. Hopefully you aren't that far away to begin with.

#

I have seen a serpent from the shoreline as well...

lusty sigil
#

Honestly I have no idea, I haven't died in the ocean since like 2022 on my first/last raft.

marble roost

Hope you have high fist skill!

I think 100% of my ocean deaths have been to deathsquitos

hollow mantle
lusty sigil
hollow mantle
#

One of the first things I will do is follow the shoreline till I've uncovered the entire landmass.

subtle parrot
#

Must've made it to some shallows, karve isn't fast enough to fully outrun a serpent on the open ocean, unless it just got distracted

hollow mantle
#

You'd be surprised how many times I think I've found everything just to discover a small offshoot that then curves back around to a huge chunk of landmass.

#

But it's all really RNG.

#

No need, Bakee. I've had maps that started me on a small island, and maps that the starting landmass seems like it's more than 1/2 the map.

#

Island hopping was fun.

lusty sigil
#

no sense in spoiling yourself, just go for a cheeky jog around your island with eikthyr until you find BF

It's all good...dying is part of the game. Unless you aren't having fun, there isn't a wrong way to do it.

lusty sigil

you can use them as base decoration, put them on item stands but other than that, nope.

hollow mantle
#

We are kind of shy for going into new biomes after we visited the blackforest before killing Eikthyr, and then the swamps before Elder...and then just stepping a toe into the plains...yes, we've gotten very cautious about entering new biomes.

#

But I am not going to actively spoil the content of the game, just know it's a lot of fun

#

It's a certified bad time

hollow mantle
#

heh heh...always have a backup plan.

#

We just finished grinding iron...so we've dabbled in plains and mountains. But I've been kind of cautious as we only play a session once a week and I don't want to get too far ahead of my friends.

lusty sigil
#

you can tame wolves, root isn't required. Just meat, and probably waiting until you can build stone structures because wolves will demolish wooden walls.

are any of you actually helping someone or needing help?

coral prairie
#

I'm playing in a friend's world, and we hit the Moder summon button ONCE after loading the eggs, but we got TWO of them.

#

Is there a way to remove the second one for this particular boss fight in our world, or do we have to go find another alter and hope it doesn't happen again?

visual radish
#

Can the world/server owner still use cheats in multiplayer? If so they could run a command to kill them then spawn 3 eggs back in.

fathom badge
coral prairie
#

That means we'll have to get three more eggs too, right?

fathom badge
#

Yes, but if you're running commands you can spawn them. They also respawn as well if you wait long enough

coral prairie
#

The eggs respawn? 😯 I've never seen that... I wonder how long it takes

fathom badge
#

It's a pretty long time, but the wiki has the exact details

oblique hawk
#

10 days or something, not too long.

coral prairie
#

I assume that's 10 Valheim days? 🤭

vapid warren
#

16 days

#

valheim yes

#

8 irl hours if no sleep

oblique hawk
#

Yes, real life days aren't a relevant metric as there's no set time players are in-game every day.

#

16 is just 10 with an extra line above the 0, so that counts as "or something". ;p

coral prairie
#

Um... could it be possible that two alters somehow spawned on top of each other?

vapid warren
#

its probably just lag since its multiplayer

coral prairie
#

We saw silver spawn almost entirely overlapped nearby

vapid warren
#

you got double input due to delay

oblique hawk
#

Altars have a minimum distance between them.

vapid warren
#

so it spawned 2

coral prairie
#

I wouldn't want to risk the same thing happening if we use that alter again

vapid warren
#

you just need to press it once, and only one of you

coral prairie
#

As I said, that is exactly what I did. Once press.

oblique hawk
#

Silver veins can spawn very close to eachother, but silver veins are not boss altars.

vapid warren
#

if you dont wanna risk a double spawn, make sure only one person is nearby, then they can portal in after the boss is spawned, you should be fine then

coral prairie
#

I don't know the mechanics, I just know there was no abnormal player activity to cause it. Maybe lag.

#

One person in the area does seem like a good safeguard.

vapid warren
#

yeah like i said its lag

coral prairie
#

We'll be sure to try that next time.

vapid warren
#

there'll be very little if no lag if only one person is there

coral prairie
#

I guess we'll figure out what we want to do. Probably just skip the extra work and grab some tears from my world.

#

Since it's already been a more extreme version of the boss fight. Nothing new to experience there heh

#

Thanks for the tip on avoiding lag! That goes in the checklist.

tough hare
#

You will still need the trophy as sacrifice as well.
So might as well import that one too to unlock the power Moder gives.

coral prairie
#

I've played through the Mistlands, so the glitch was the only issue ^-^

vapid warren
#

if you dont care about fighting her, but have devcommands, you can just killall

coral prairie
#

I have some tears in my world so I brought them over since my friend wasn't worried about getting the full experience of beating Moder

#

We've been through enough with the dual boss fight 😔

coral prairie
vapid warren
#

it also unlocks raids properly

#

no more drake raids

lunar cedar
#

I'm yet to play a full-legit run, in order to not get frustrated with multiplayer HP scaling and boss healing I just deal enough damage to break a couple weapons and then I kill them with commands

#

maxxed out weapons, meads, dodge rolling, parrying, nice prepared foods, max rested buff possible, daytime fighting... still frustrating

marble roost
#

wait you think multiplayer makes the bosses HARDER?

lunar cedar
#

yep, can solo no problem

marble roost
#

I suppose if you have bad teamates

lunar cedar
#

that and also the scaling so much

vapid warren
#

30% HP and 4% damage?

lunar cedar
#

being able to attack freely when I'm not the target doesn't even make up

marble roost
#

I mean they get 30% more health, you get 100% more damage

lunar cedar
#

plus their normal healing, it becomes more healing since it is a percentage

marble roost
#

If my math is right (which it might not be), you should be able to take down a boss 65% faster with two people. And that's not counting the boss now having two targets so it's easier to do damage

visual radish
#

I had more problems with the lag and attack delay in multiplayer than anything. I'm often more focused on the attacks that hit me when I'm several meters away than the fact that they hit harder. Same with the delay on enemies taking damage.

lunar cedar
#

and let's say you clear all enemies surrounding the area too, by the time you get them to 50% health it's night time and there will be spawns, so you have to deal with them while boss is healing

marble roost
#

hows that different from solo tho?

lunar cedar
#

way quicker to get to 50%

marble roost
#

I mean statistically way quicker to get to 50% in multiplayer. But again it's understandable if your teamates aren't as good/strong as you

lunar cedar
#

do you actually deal more damage too

marble roost
#

I mean, yea. 2 people shooting a bow does twice the damage of one person shooting a bow

#

And the boss doesn't get double health, so you kill them faster

lunar cedar
#

ok so no damage bonus

#

healing per tick is higher, that's probably my only problem with that

#

but it makes sense too, I guess I'll make new life-long friends

marble roost
#

but still by exactly 30%, so your damage more than offsets it too

#

I mean my Moder fight didn't get faster from multiplayer, but that's also bc I had 3x the damage output of my buddy

lunar cedar
#

my team was just running around all the time while I was literally hugging the boss administrating stamina to attack and dodge and parry

marble roost
#

that would do it

lunar cedar
#

felt like an eternity, we got Moder to 0,001% health and then stuff happened and there she goes with 50% health... by the time I got her to 0,0000001% again and didn't finish it, I considered it done and killed her with commands

marble roost
#

You took a 30min break once she got to 0.001%?

lunar cedar
#

same for yagluth, my gameplay consisted in getting him low HP and then rebuilding portals for my friends that don't look up only to have all my progress reversed while my weapons continued to break

marble roost
#

that feels rough

#

I'm definitely starting to bring multiple weapons to boss fights bc I'm doing no portals

lunar cedar
lunar cedar
#

I guess you have created many beds

marble roost
#

yea sleeping through night is nice

#

more so campfires to get rested tho

lunar cedar
#

yeah night spawns are annoying

marble roost
#

Not just annoying, extremely deadly (it's on Very Hard). And I'm not looking to die bc it's hardcore death penalty

lunar cedar
#

what about raids

marble roost
#

And then I've just set the challenge for myself not to use atgeir, bombs, or bow, not to make earthwalls, and not to cheese in general

lunar cedar
#

where are you at

marble roost
#

SINCE WHEN DO HARES HAVE TROPHIES!?!

lunar cedar
#

since mistlands release!

marble roost
lunar cedar
#

how was moder and the mountains in general with no bow?

marble roost
#

Not bad, spear shreds even if it's not OP like bow

lunar cedar
#

oh yeah, there's that option

#

many being hunted events?

#

as a buckler light armor guy those can get overwhelming

#

I'm doing a knife run too

marble roost
lunar cedar
#

berserkers only take 1 cycle, it's nice

marble roost
lunar cedar
#

honestly, if I hadn't died a thousand times my skills would be above 80 as well

#

and I do it often enough so no skill drain is out

marble roost
#

yea haven't died since swamp but godamnn I've had to be careful

lunar cedar
#

damn losing everything at that point must've been fun

marble roost
#

Honestly I died a lot at the start bc it was my first time doing no bows and I didn't realize how bad it would be. But around swamp I started to get my footing

#

Trolls just feel so immensely overtuned

lunar cedar
#

sneaking is fun I've been doing it more

#

specially with knife build

#

backstab multipler + staggering + quick attacks for more damage and staggering

#

lovely combo

#

how are abominations on hardcore?

#

can you parry enemies normally or do you need like at least level 3 shields from the biome

marble roost
#

At least level 3 shields to feel safe, but even then you can't parry starred enemies or brutes like aboms

#

Aboms aren't too bad tho bc they're super slow and you can lure them to a surtling pyre and just dodge around while they burn to a crisp. Kinda sucks to only get 2 roots from each abom tho, so that's 5 aboms for a root chest

lunar cedar
#

oh yeah I forgot about the negative multiplier

#

yeah not for me

#

not yet at least, I'm on my chillax time

marble roost
#

tbh the constant raids and low resource rate are getting a bit annoying. Especially with being unable to portal. But it's an interesting challenge, has switched up my gameplay immenseley

slender cradle
#

I like playing with no portals. Had to build a small port (using abandoned tower) and made a road towards trader so each time I want sell or buy something i need to sail there and travel. Plus this feeling of preparing for a journey when I go to a new place knowing that I won't be able to restock or repair fast.

proud barn
glacial silo

stoic trench
#

I’d say the weapons are mostly pretty well balanced, yeah. As you progress through stages of the game, you’re basically offered a new set of weapons to choose from. For example, in the first zone, you can make simple weapons- like a wooden club, flint spear, stone axe, etc. in the next zone, you can get stronger versions of those weapons and more, such as bronze mace (upgrade of club, functions the same) and a new weapon type, a sword.

marble roost
proud barn

mediocre. They do hella damage, but they're pretty squshy too so whenever any mildly strong enemies (and especially enemies with AoE) come by, you're gonna have to breed up some new puppies to send out to protect you.

If you have plenty of core wood, i recommend basically turning the lower area of your walls into porcupine quills

A few of the wall stakes in place, a ward to limit durability damage to the stakes, and greylings will just bum rush it and die pretty much instantly. Any mass greydwarves get killed pretty quickly too

Just have your Bonemass power ready, and go slowly and methodically. They aren't that bad if you've got good Silver weapons (Frostner is especially handy against everything except the Lox). Tips on getting more fps?
Feels like if it was limited in some way.
Upgraded from 3070->4070tis
Getting about same fps 80-120 just a bit more consistent.
CPU is i7-12700k, wqhd resolution, reinstalled fresh drivers etc

fathom badge
#

That's pretty good for FPS in general. Valheim can be very CPU limited no matter how good your system is. If changing your resolution scaling doesn't affect much then you're CPU limited, and the only real tweaks you can do then are making sure that XMP is enabled and your memory is running at full capabilities, and possibly reducing render distance.

deep shard
#

Need to try that out, i'm still running DDR4 if it has an impact. I was expecting a larger jump but i guess it could be cpu side then

fathom badge
#

The actual CPU is likely fine, it's often the XMP and memory bandwidth that can be the biggest impact

visual radish
#

I'm confused where the issue is. 80-120 fps is already well above any meaningful fps amounts, and is well above a normal playable experience.

Hey guys!

We were on a hosted server with one of my raid leader’s from World of Warcraft (pls no hate)- we were in the Mistlands at that point, had carapace armor and nice weapons crafted. I had a personal chest with stuff that I had looted and mined. Well, he ended up disbanding and deleting the server and I lost my personal chest stuff.

I have my armor and weapons, but mine and my fiancé’s mistlands level weapons are broken and since we’re restarting on our own server, I just wanted to see if anyone would be willing to donate stuff for the forge we need to repair our mistlands weapons 😂😭😭😭

I have nothing to offer in return right now other than my eternal gratitude and thanks 🙏🏼 we can help out with bosses or whatever once our weapons are repaired 😂😭

We’re currently in the process of getting through the swamp to get iron, but we can’t kill anything cause no weapons and we can’t craft anything cause we can’t mine anything 😭

I've recently moved states, and have a much stronger internet connection and a stronger computer than when I began. The server is locally saved, not cloud. Every time I load in and try to enter my little city, I lag and cannot move. Run in place. My husband joined the server and was able to run around in the town just fine with no lag. This save has 6 months worth of effort and time logged and I'd really prefer to save it if possible, but at current I cannot play on it at all. Any ideas?

as far as locating levs, I just boat into open ocean. usually run into one within 20 minutes, but rarely see them from shore. so the more open the ocean, the better for my saves so far. Yesterday, my friend and I played on his server, he plays with the xbox, and I play with the PC. I'm trying to connect today, but the connection fails. We compared our versions and he has version 0.217.39, and I have version 0.217.38. Could this be the reason that I can't connect?

Yes. That's the right log file and the part you're showing indicated that the PC is able to reach the MS playfab network lobby and search for the server you're trying to connect to. But it's unable to find the server there.

That would seem to indicate that either your husbands Xbox isn't completing it's connection to the playfab lobby and establishing a presence there for some reason or possibly the playfab lobby is having problems. It's impossible to tell whether the problem might be with the Xbox or with the playfab network lobby itself.

The available data isn't yet sufficient to identify the problem. I suggest having your husband post in the #xbox-bugs-discussion channel here and see if any of the folks there have had experiences similar to yours and may be able to suggest a course of action or a solution. The only other alternative is to simply wait a while and try again in case the problem is actually with the playfab network and they eventually get it fixed.

@fathom badge Thanks for your help. I'm going to load with the mods again and see what the packets say. give some insight about if it was just last night or thunderstore.

fathom badge

Like I said, double check the memory XMP settings (that can be a huge perfomance boost in general), and turn down the point lights and shadows a bit as well if you can

random storm

The render scaling is also great, it has almost no visual impact but can really increase your framerate if you're being GPU limited.

We are trying to join beta play and have engaged the correct settings in Steam and on the game properties in steam but when entering a world we still only have 6 boss stones, none of the new build pieces and Ashlands is not separated from the rest of the landmasses. Have we done something wrong? We created a new world for this endeavour.

lilac coyote

Ashlands isn't out yet.

lilac coyote

I know.

feral valley
#

It says we can experience it in the beta

oblique hawk
#

The beta ended three and a half years ago. You'll have to wait for the Ashlands patch to be on the PTB to be able to play it on the PTB. Look at what the patch notes for the PTB patch says to see what's on it now, or just join the PTB channels here to follow the discussions about it.

#

id:customize has roles you can choose to see the PTB channels.

#

Ashlands is not on the PTB yet, nor will it be for a while more as there's at least one more patch to test there after the current one is done from what was said a few days back.

They won't follow you like the wolves do but with the harpoon you can drag them where you want and then push them

random storm
#

Oh. Yeah I hate the harpoon. I don't want to stab them. I hope eventually they're make a shepards staff that makes the herd follow you.

vague goblet
#

I've also just set up long pathways with fences after they're tamed and pushed them, slowly closing off more and more of the area until they reach the spot I want them to be.

random storm
#

or a herd mode you can set with a tamed wolf on follow would be cool too.

barren seal
fathom badge
#

Only other way I've found that's reasonable is to build chute with roundpole fences and push them through, putting pieces behind me every now and then so they can't run backwards.

vague goblet
vague goblet

But the easiest is to just make a farm where I catch the boars and teleport there 😛

random storm
#

same, I build a big circle (usually using the large stones) and then grab aggro. Run in. trap em.

vague goblet
random storm
#

With permission, Kyren, I can dm you a vod showing me doing that a few days ago.

otherwise, youtube has a LOT of tutorials on boar pens.

vague goblet

This is similar to what mine would look like when taming

random storm
#

Yeah, there ya go. mine look like that.

vague goblet
#

Probably a little more crude but that's the idea

#

Then I throw a stack of berries in there so I don't have to re-approach it at all

#

And I also make sure there are two boars being tamed simultaneously so I don't need to do it twice

random storm
#

I add 3 or 4 workbenches in the middle too. gives them something to attack so the walls don't get attacked while they're taming.

vague goblet
oblique hawk
#

They only attack the walls until they forget you're there, whilst a workbench in their face will make them see that and attack it all the time.

random storm
#

Its just what I like to do. they get mad about greylings too. Just works for me. and yeah, I usually add an inner layer of fence, then an outerlayer or spike walls.

vague goblet
#

If I have anything else to do I'll create a safe looking box for myself to go AFK inside of and then go do something else around the house for 30 minutes and come back to tamed boars

barren seal

Why 2 doors? and by "taming" u mean after 2 r tamed and u want to breed them?

#

Also I think I heard about some weapon or something u can use to pull them?

barren seal
fathom badge
vague goblet
#

Breeding and taming work the same mechanically in that you need to be in the vicinity in order for each to happen. So once you've tamed your boars you can begin breeding them. That's why I prefer my boars to be closer to my base so when I'm working on other tasks they'll continually breed (as long as all the conditions are met for doing so).

You'll need to find a resource called chitin, which is something you'll find while sailing. Not sure how explicit you'd like me to be and I don't want to spoil things if you don't want.

stoic trench

You get exp per hit, so if you’re really wanting to grind, get a weak bow/arrows and find an HP sponge!

oblique hawk

The only way to level weapon skills is to hit enemies. One skill improvment tick per hit.

reef flame
stoic trench
#

Maybe trap a golem, then use a crude bow and wooden arrows and just let loose?

reef flame
#

And using wood arrows on him will take a really long time to kill him

reef flame
#

I like the golem idea, it's a lot easier to setup

#

But golem's don't follow you into ditches so it might be difficult to get it into one

stoic trench
#

You can harpoon them! Personally I put them in little holes just to prevent them from spawning, it’s not too difficult.

#

Might be able to build a little wooden floor then destroy from underneath him so he falls in?

We love us some pierce resist

#

Even found it useful in mountain

subtle parrot
marble roost
#

I mean the pierce resist won't help in much of mountains, just possibly against golems or (more importantly) against Moder. Pretty sure her bite is pierce (despite wiki saying its slash) and her ice barrage can also just barely be tanked with the right setup (granted, you're sacrificing a lot of utility to be able to tank a shot)

subtle parrot
#

Yeh, i typically don't get in her face too much in general, but I'm figuring it'll be harder to kill her on very hard without doing so

marble roost
#

Bow should be pretty valid, I took her on with a spear tho. Definitely bring multiple bows tho or have a portal to go repair bc one prob ain't enough

I ran fenris legs to have enough speed to dodge her ice barrage which is by far her most dangerous attack, but still went for a root harnesk, drake helmet, serpent stew, serpent meat, and wolf skewer to be able to just barely tank one hit from it if I did get hit

real nebula

One draugr fang is more than enough ime, as long as it's decently upgraded

About 3 in-game days, and sleeping speeds it up just like it speeds up almost everything (except breeding tame animals, which it basically stops)

winter bloom

One carrot gives 3 carrot seeds. 1 carrot seed gives one carrot

winter bloom

so i gota turn the carrots into seeds

fathom badge

Yup. First few cycles are building up seed stores, and then once you get to that you just replant a third of the harvest as seed and it will keep itself sustained.
