You get access to stone from the swamp so that's the major upgrade you can do to your base. Although I think wood buildings can still look good, surrounded by a stone wall.
And yeah it can be tough to find ideas on youtube that don't use all late game materials. SmittySurvival has a video on walls that mostly uses just the basic wood and stone pieces
yep, just unlocked stone cutter, let me look for that channel, thanks.
Do greydwarf nests respawn or do I only have to deal with them once?
Once you kill it, it's gone. Same for draugr spawners.
Sweet, thank you
Yeah, although it is sometimes nice to keep them
For deliveries of building materials and eyes
for training and farming, right?
Yeah. I've wanted to build a base near one for a while. Not with some weird auto farm though, just surrounding it to create an arena where I can go fight
Maybe for wolves but I wouldn't want them dying there
I'm not sure if wolves would be fine there and heal any wounds they get while away from base
A cool goal for me has been to tame wolves, then keep them around the base for defense / howls. This game takes so much time though.
just beaten Yagluth, i had everything maxed out, best food, best potions etc. and i had a hell of my life, at the start when fighting yagluth 6 loxes attacked me and huge village of fulings with 4 shamans xD but i made it, i maybe used 10 potions for healing π
took only 40 minutes
I really wish I could get just a tiny hint to where haldor could be. Btw, how close to his camp do you have to get before it's marked on your map? Like is there a minimum size a blank spot on the map has to be before it's worth checking for him, or could he be hiding in any unmapped crevice?
like 300 meters maybe idk, u have to be kinda close
What does 300 meters look like on the map?
You can notice Haldor the trader in Valheim when you come within approximately 320 to 453 meters of his location.

At this distance, a bag icon will appear on your map, signaling his presence even if you have not fully explored or cleared the fog in that specific area.

Detection Mechanics: The icon appears when the related zones are generated, often twice the default mini-map range.
Best Time to Spot: Many players suggest searching during the night, as Haldorβs campfire is visible from further away.
Where to Look: He is only found within the Black Forest biome, generally 1,500 meters or more away from the center of the world.

Once you approach one of his possible spawn locations, he will spawn there, and the bag icon will appear on your map
thats what google said
ive had really good luck finding him on any map just sailing around the coast of all land masses a bit away from my starting center
or just use valheim world generator
Doesn't that spoil the entire map though?
u can also use commands to see how far u are to the merchant and go into all directions a couple meters and in which direction distance gets smaller
That will label the character with the "Cheater!" Tag
Anyone else feel guilty about destroying the environment every time they use staff of embers?
I tend to not use the staff of embers, so I'd say no
Do you not use it because of its tendency to vaporise all the foilage?
I don't use it because it feels OP to me
Same reason I don't use bows, atgeirs, or staff of protection
I do feel bad for the foliage when I fight Yag though. Mate lights the entire plains on fire with firetick
btw which trinket is better for mistlands? the one from stone golem or from lox?
Feeling op is kinda the point
Seems like it
I don't like that feeling tho, which is why i abstain
Really just preference. Both of them require quite a bit of adrenaline to proc though
Personally I like the ||fins of destiny|| trinket in mistlands, for movement and escaping bad situations
i am sword player so i will do the lox trinket cus 100+ hp sounds amazing
and i also use frostner
Channeling the raw forces of creation isn't for everyone
I will use frost staff
frostner + black metal sword :DDD
I'm a big fan of hybrid builds, going melee but with a bit of supplemental magic
it will be my first time in mistlands so i will see if i like magic tbh
but do i only have the feeling that bosses are a bit better than they used to?
Blood gem slayer + staff of protection?
||Blood|| weapons are a lot of fun, but I tend to play permadeath so they are a bit risky for me. Except maybe some shenanigans with oneshotting enemies with the crossbow
||As I said tho I don't use the staff of protection. So just some ice or skellies or fracturing or something. Ice is pretty nice for slowing enemies down while generating adrenaline and giving me some room to breathe||
What foods do you run? I hadn't considered the adrenaline gain of the frost staff
Thereβs blood weapons in the game now? Or is that not new?
Like, Siphon?
they're available in ashlands, and they've been around since that biome was added
you deal more damage when your health is low
First person view to valheim when
I think you might like Resounding Shackle, which is Mistlands tier trinket. It grants 100 stamina when activated and some extra slash damage for duration.
That could be really fun.
Also nice when in settlements
So you can see more detail
It makes mistlands more interesting when you stand on a raised stone point and look down
I think it shuld be like minecraft for example
Where you can change views
From 3rd to first
We installed the first person mod for those reasons
Saddly im on xbox
I like to run HHF most the time. Might try HHE once in a while
But yeah magic seems to gain adrenaline really fast, and the fact that it's ranged also helps you to even just do tap firing once in a while to stop adrenaline loss
is there any way to improve the insurmountable amounts of lag on a server?
enemies constantly teleport/glitch around
are invisible half the time
cant interact with things without a 10s delay
Sadly, pretty much only to let the person with best connection to lead the way
but even when im alone its like this rn
that server you connect to is too far away or just slow, or else there is an internet routing issue which neither the server nor you have control of really
I just realised the log variant of the trolls don't throw stones
Kinda balances them out with the regular ones
Their melee reach is scary though
is silver ore needed later in the game once you reach mistlands or beyond?
What food set up do you guys use for bosses
A little bit. Even with reserve, I'd say 70 at most, that is including scythe which you can make after killing Moder
ty
when i rented valheim server the cheapest one was just garbage like they didnt even test it, i had to spec up to a pretty expensive server to make it good, and even then it was not as good as a full on gaming computer on fiber
I never really had an issue with servers, though Ive only played them a bit
you can use trolls to mine it for u
just make them hit the ground
In general what you like better? log or logless trolls?
I guess log
They're much deadlier if they hit you but it's actually easy to run and shoot fire arrows
But if they surprise you it's quite a jumpscare
hi guys im new in game, so im looking people speak portuguese to play with me
no log, theyβre better mining slaves
Hey everyone. Iβm looking for a 21+ group that loves to build. Making a nice base, ports here and there, secondary bases to stop at between home base and the Ashlands, etc. Anyone thatβd welcome me?
Not personally interested (and Iβd recommend doing a #1024264966712340510 ), but sounds like a great world for the No-Portals modifier
Oooh thatβs what lfg stands for, thank you
my server is prepping for it, but we got attacked by 4 trolls, 2 bears, 2 star and 1 star shaman and a fuling
for those who don't know
i kept putting this off
people were making fun of me for it π«
constant swarms of deathsquitos
despite us being far away from a tiny bit of plains
we killed 12
they're weak to fire and not resistant against pierce
wolf spear works very well
wolf spear π
my team has lost all of our spears
lox are weak to running away
A good shield, parrying, and not fighting 3 at once
sometimes I wish enemies had stamina so you could do the tried and true humanity method of just poking it and running away multiple times until it got so tired it fell asleep
then you know, you kill it dead
How will the forest fare without its guardian to protect it :(
The elder is a tyrant !!! Never trust his wooden ways !!
he's still there don't worry i'm gonna fight him again
either way was not and will not be gone
no helping it valheim isnt truly mutable
for now...
i've considered making a valheim fangame with extensive dives into ecology and civil engineering physics
hows that
In #mods-discussion there are some that help with spears like ZenCombat where they return to you if you go too far away (lost them) if that is something youβll find helpful.
that castle will finally make sense, the wind will be able to turn over a simple wall
and lain brick will be a much more sure source of stability
oh i get it
i havent got to work on this at all
im not having my precognitions though so that might mean it's a likelier part of my future
chill on the spice kate
but since it's not in any precognitions it's uncertain
i'm trying... i'm on antipsychotics. it used to be a lot worse
whoa
did i say too much out loud
we mightve actually hit rock bottom we might bounce back a bit before going back down
to take you less than literally
you know i would not have guessed it would be deep north as a fifth biome after fire land, since we already had mountain
what if they crammed in a whole 3-4 progression levels into snow zone
i was hoping to walk on the world tree branch thing though
I cant wait to see what the last boss is
spoiler:
||yourself||
that would be easier than eikthyr
π
Not the Dark Link ending π¨
I just died to the bog witches broom.......... end my suffering
omg i knew that thing was up to no good!!
No, Fader was. On the internet, no one knows you're a giant undead dragon.
I do admire tenacity
Dust in the wind
so what have I don't to be slandered this time?
purple name probably
developers are purple π€
heheh
not even a moderator or displayed community manager role
maybe Further will explain π§
doubt it
wheres valheim ss
i've been very far to the north and very far to the south, where might i find a swamp?
hello everyone
(not actually that far)
@coral marten you sent me a dm and friend request. what's up?
my friend named kate wanted to invite you to something
no one knows
Go sailing and you'll find one
Swamps dont have any set direction to be in π so you can venture anywhere from centre out
do rafts require nails
i found a curious body of land just across a slightly too long body of water
Hey, I just realized some of the intentional - looking arrangements of stones I see around meadows look kinda like a type of Viking burial I've heard of (stones arranged in boat shape)
Should I start digging or are the just for the atmosphere
Nope! Just leather scraps, wood and resin
yup yup. it's called a ship burial
An undead viking despoiling a grave of a dead viking...
They've got treasure on the ends
If you dig. Or just bones half the time
yeah, kinda...
The best weapon type in the game
wooden #u#
Yeah what weapon has a better way to get skill π
another strangely empty troll cave...
normal, they're like 50/50 in my experience
do we have a channel for Viking/Valheim-adjacent youtube content?
to post I mean
memes and clips says valheim only, but what I'd like to share talks about the Atgeir, but not about valheim specifically
GUYS I JUST SAW A BAG ICON POP UP ON MY MAP
is that a "no we dont want it here"?
no. please follow the rules
ok :(
Anything Viking is incredibly cool and I never heard of anyone talk about the Atgeir outside of the Sagas/in relation to the Sagas, except for this game
yeah but give a finger, someone will take the hand, then the arm. then viking anything...
so need to set the rules to valheim related only
Ended Last Boss with Friends β€οΈ What a beautiful thing
how do i move a raft in the right direcion...?
just downloaded the game, wish me luck! might do a little bit of searching to figure some stuff out, i lack common sense.
Go backwards
ventured out across the ocean for the first time. the wind is almost perfect. i left the black forest to find.... more black forest. π΅
i can't use a hammer to break apart a raft...?
No unfortunately you gotta just hit it with weapons until it breaks, then pick up materials
Nope. For whatever weird reason you have to destroy all the ships manually
I believe the logic is to prevent players from accidentally dismantling their ships
cart too
can you fix the raft with the fix button?
That makes sense. Imagine accidentally dismantling a ship completely loaded with iron.
can i repair the axe or do i just make a new one?
You can repair
Make a workbench using the wooden hammer
You can repair it at a workbench.
oops i'll take this to help channel my bad
idk what your map looks like, but the raft is real painful to use
I'd recommend progressing and getting some more materials to upgrade to better seafaring vessels before braving too much ocean
rip
at least the iron floats
If you don't have fins of destiny or you cherish your boat nails tho, that might be a tough one
i lost 80 bronze nail by just a few inches trying to bob down there blub blub π
If you're near shore, you can use the hoe to raise the ground around it so you can grab your nails
thats a good idea but they were lost this time because of some weird mistlands terrain dont know what it is
i found a village full of terrifying poisoned vikings
Draugr village β€οΈ love them
sausage time~!
finally! swamp!
Sausage time part 2!
almost died to slime poison
Poison resistantance is a good idea for early game
i know how to get the mead but i'm not sure about much else
Just explore, dont die too much, and have fun! π
recipes for everything should be in the mead ketill, you definitely have poison resist unlocked
saw something in the water and was like "oh wow! first serpent!" and then i realized it was leeches π€’
Make the mead base in the cauldron and then you have to ferment it in a Fermenter
(i have that mead already made i knew swamp would have poison i just didn't bring it with me for some reason)
a storm is a bad time to go sailing in a raft right
yeahhhh
wait why are you in a raft you have bronze!
π
i figured it'd be cheaper to make a bunch of wide river rafts than it'd be to make one boat and count on it not turning over
i could make a lot of boats i guess...
You really dont have to worry about boats capsizing in Valheim π
It's happened to me on occasion
what happens to boats during a storm?
They just take some dmg by smashing into tall waves, but not too much
In all my years playing i never once had a boat flip on me π
Unless your boat is destroyed by enemies it will never "turn over". A karve is much better then a raft. Also you can't teleport iron, you will need the storage space from the karve to get iron back from your swamp anyway
First serpent will make sure you know it's there
I've had it happen in a Karve, but never a longship
I feel like that has to be more of a lag/glitch situation
I JUST REALIZED EARLY AXES IS A PUN, ISN'T IT
i dont think you can paddle a karve
Yes you can π
Just the one arrow speed, its same for all ships
longship take 4 years to turn around
go full sail. crank the wheel all the way to the side. then pull sails all the way up. you should turn pretty quick until you run out of speed
sure sure but the karve is more nimble either way
Do you guys prefer the drauger for its psn dmg or huntsman bow for the quieter shot?
poison damage bow is yucky imo
Huntsman all day
why
ok i offically dont care if blood gems suck. brutal slayer as a backup for an out of eitr mage is too cool
Blood gem is just very niche, you can get insane damage from it if you're a mage especially. Just use the protection bubble and use rotten meat/pukeberries to make your health really low.
how do pukeberries make your health low?
They make you vomit up all your food and damage yourself a little bit.
You can accidentally kill yourself if you eat too many.
also the unparalled confidence you gain from wielding such a fine looking weapon cannot be matched
Donβt forget the essential step of eating 3 hp foods after puking
I don't usually do this myself, I'll utilize the bump I get from the hp loss, and then eat my normal foods afterwards.
Are skoll/hati, Krom, arbalest, or the carapace spear good?
I liked krom
Isnt the only health loss from pukeberries just the food loss? So youβll go from like 200/200 hp to 25/25?
Bro I am SO frustrated π I am sailing all over for a black forest to find the rock altar. I keep running into Mistlands EVERYWHERE but no substantial forests.....I'm on the far right side......where are the forests π π π
All of them are good
Krom I find a bit eh but definitely has its uses
My main is a maxed Frostner, which would you say is a good replacement?
Nope they do damage to the player
How does one reliably kill hares?
spike walls scattered all over high traffic areas
I really wish this game had some form of log that tells what damaged me. idk if i just killed myself with a staff of protection or if multiple charred marksmen shot me at the same time.
Arablast is good for them. But I've been told pufferfish along places they run is a good method and the traps you can make
I have a hard time seeing how itβs useful but if it works it works
I just don't triple up on health foods ultimately, I still want the stamina to swing away freely.
just started a singleplayer, killed eikther got the power, started sailing out with a raft to find a better island and the first island i see is completly black forest or swamp
on top of that the wind is going directly against me
why does hugin become disgruntled with you once u kill yagluth lol
like sorry for actually doing odins work
just a bad bird π
I enjoy throwing the carapace spears, great sneak dmg starter
Arabalest: good against gjalls and enemies in the mistlands in general
Skoll and hati: good if you can parry
Krom: the chad sword, high risk high reward, risky due to being slow, high reward with its thrust secondary attack doing FAT damage
Spear: solid weapon in mistlands but lacks a swing arc and is pretty horrible when fighting against multiple enemies
No shame in just sticking to your preferred weapon type
The Skoll and Hati has like no block armor, how can you parry with it? I maingly use it for other biome mobs
Doesnβt a properly performed parry just do it while ignoring the need for block stat?
I have no idea since I parry every once a milanmia π If that's how it works that's super neat
parry bonus multiplies block armor when parrying
Same as with shield - just before the hit lands you.
can i join server?
"PSL" friend, Parry, Secondary, Loot π
Try looking for people to join in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 π
if you guys will open a normal server with very hard deficulty im in
before ww3 atleast finish the north deep boss
yo do yall think i should stick with the ||huntsmans bow|| or try to go for ||dragur fang?||
im at early mountain stage rn
I don't make draugr fang. Huntsman bow has a smaller aggro radius on the arrows it shoots, which is very useful in the next biome
Damage vs. Stealth is your question here.
Pick which matters more to you.
i imagine damage. im usually parrying anyway and using my melee
Then you want Fang.
In my latest runs I don't even build bows π
Spears until arbalest.
Welcome to how we at Iron Gate Studios does things
are there ways of getting poison resist at swamp besides the mead
Yep, but you need to kill certain big mob first π
And the resist you will get using its material will not be as potent as the one from mead
but it doesnt cost neck tails
Always plenty of those to go around
i'm getting neck tails from around i should be fine
i mean i think some players don't bother picking those up
They're not required for too many recipes, and their cooked variant grants less stats than boar or deer meat.
Although they can be feed for future mob for taming.
Honey is at least useful for pretty much the whole game π
I don't have many recipes for it and lots of hives
I just harvest it when I go to that base
Which I think is gonna become a farming base
make meads at black forest and eat raw honey before that
Ngl I think I have neglected meads
make mead it's peak
I didn't have the spare resources for the mead thingy so I just didn't make one
collect more turn on eikthyr power
it makes your mining better in a way i don't understand
Now this explains the surplus of honey xD
I make trolls do the work for me most of the time
I will get one for bonemass tho
Heard the poison is horrible
Poison resist will for sure come in handy π
yeah i never did lol
it is lol, poison resist makes it so much easier
I will also get anything else that seems useful
When i start a new server with friends, we usually build a meadows base close to spawn until about mountains/plains when weβll go explore for a new south forward base location. I have tended to prefer meadows/plains bordered bases for the farming. How do you all usually play your base placement strategy?
Meadows, close to water, opean meadow if possible π thats what i am usually looking for
Close to black forest also I'd like to add.

first troll raid! didn't kill any trolls, but died twice!
they didn't destroy my house tho
sadly ive never exited the meadows permanently lol, though im just now getting to the mountains, ill likely move when i get to the plains
thats the best outcome you could ask for π
Slaughter isn't the goal, it's structural integrity we worry about π
not even one with your atgier?
i managed to almost simultaneously stunlock them but no
they were simul stunlocked for a bit but the moment passed
What equipment level are you at? bronze?
i was wearing +3 troll and the dverger circlet i forgot to take off
@silk token is the circlet that bad?
It provides 0 armour value, it's only really there if you need light whilst building or mining
imean its zero armor so
π« i am facepalm worthy
at least you ate food before going out?
airte coulda been worse, next time youll eat AND check your armor, every time better.
who knows if that wouldve saved you anyway but its great you at least went to fight them!
U might also wanna reconsider the Atgeir against trolls, there's no real parrying available until you're at late iron
i was so prepared with stone walls and a moat
using the atgeir I mean
I've heard people say a lot of good about using a hoe to build up natural stone walls around your base
i've heard that too but i wanted to go classic
Honestly so fair
I hate the look of outer walls, bit unfortunate that they're necessary
they make me feel like i'm playing minecraft
Might just build my next base underneath the elder spawner
that's one of my plans
the atgier is due to timing issues that prevent the likelihood of parrying, more proactive aggression
but i agree perfect world bronze buckler and spear is what i personally use against them
I been an atgeir hater since day 1 unfortunately
h8r
lol they are pretty great at what they do
The ONLY two handed weapons I approve of are battleaxes and bows
well i approve of battleaxe of course.
Stagbreaker? Iron Sledge? Polearms? P'shaw, send them away!
I rely far too much on parrying and riposting for my own good though, makes me a sitting duck against aerial foes
Lookin at you, Mountains.
Mountains probably my least favourite biome to be in so far
I've never made it to Caelid
thats why you spear! great for flying and aquatic foes
thats actually why i dont use atgier, because i always have a spear and why have 2 pierce weapons
No... Spears are for those who daren't get close enough to spit at the foe. i've been mace in their face or sword and board from the get go
Stubbornness has been my downfall on many occasions
well if you really like parrying, you can parry and nuke a troll pretty fast with a spear
π€
I love spears specifically for how good they are in melee range.
Second-fastest attspd in the game.
Much stabby-stab.
Very fun.
Spears have been fun
no theyre weak to pierce spear is better
BattleYacks is best though? π
correct unless its a single target thing weak to pierce or flying or swimming
If anyone could find a way to kill flying enemies with a BA, it would be you π π
i have actually lol more than once
if they get too low
I defer to my second point my good sir. Style
the circlet is 2 armor
i can't find my raft. did it probably break apart? or did the storm blow it into the sea?
i found the raft!
...You have an atgeir and stone walls but you don't have a karve?
how do i survive the serpent
build big bote -> shoot serpent -> profit
or just outsail it instead of tanking hits while peppering it with arrows but that requires actual effort
might as well just slap it hard with a big bote
my raft broke. i nearly survived
a raft is not a good idea vs a serpent ngl π€·ββοΈ
can outrun it cant tank hits
the wind was in my face
π π
well even with wind in ur back i dont think a raft is quick enough
i could be wrong though
will the serpent still be there if i try to go back out with another raft
If it was spawned during daytime then yes.
it seemed to be a night serpent
If night time then it has despawned.
Raft is not quick enough
Learned that the hard way
if i sunk in a carve imagine all the lost garbo
rest in pieces
Yeah but at least in a karve you have the option to outrun π
in a carve ud have turned to have favourable wind and peppered that snek with arrows. big diff
Also if you want to avoid serpents, try stay closer to land as you're sailing. The only way to get them close to land is the Abyssal Harpoon
ud have won
and even without the scales from it, the meat itself is SUPER good
Karve will leave loot boxes if it breaks.
and its a lot of meat at once too
I forget if it outranks plains meat off the top of my head
5 or 7 pieces a serpent i think
rly ? damn
It far outranks plains food
I am just a fool
20 more max health than plains meat and 7 more stamina
And only 1 hp/tick less regen
seems like i should farm more serpent meat π€·ββοΈ . ive saved mine so far for mountain dungeons
cant hurt to have a bit more
you should be farming it anyway for serpent stew
are there any other anomalies in the food system like that ?
cuz uhh serpent is i think swanp tier so its basically two tiers better than it should be then ? any other thing like it ?
Not that I know of
kk
technically it is, but it's only classified as that because you're found to be sailing in order to get to the Swamps. Serpent meat is fantastic all the way through the game, at least up to Mistlands
well i never needed swamp tier food in the swamp tbh π€·ββοΈ
as said i saved my stew for later π΄
Cooked Serpent Meat is already better than the base meat you get in Mistlands
sailing the sea is so much fun with music on (provided there aren't serpents)
what happens when you have full sails out while heading directly into the wind
it works on stone golems because they're not immune to pickaxe damage
you can kill them in one hit
Basically nothing
with the longship, if you have more than 4 stacks of items will it leave extra/bigger cargo boxes? or will those items be lost, never tried it
i found a swamp i don't have to cross the sea to get to βΊοΈ
If there are more than 4 stacks of items it leaves more boxes.
Polearms are aura manifested in a weapon π€ most effective melee weapon on the battlefield in history
okok that is very good
Of real world history maybe, but you know what's cooler?
sword n board
you ever take shelter on an island instead of in a house during the rain and just wait for the daytime
i am more of a sword person myself so i can agree
how do i raise earth?
groudon
Work bench and a hoe
ok thanks
Need stone as well
right
i just found a sealed tower that was completely empty of enemies, even the miniboss
I cleared that one for you, you're welcome.
ive never had that happen before
ive seen dungeons take a few seconds to load enemies in
but ive been here for a solid 10min
I haven't either to be honest, is it marked as a mysterious location?
yeah i went to hildir and got the map clue
The important question is are the chicken eggs still there
yeah all the chests are intact
That's strange, was it a previously explored area?
i got me eggs
nah, only just got here
That really is weird.
Could be a valuable seed to be honest
Yup.
May want to add that to #1202740443352137838
my game is slightly modded tbf
Aha.
Mods killed the mobs. π

It's the mods.
Typically oddities are because of mods.
the only non QoL mod i have is EpicLoot
Trust me, it's the mods.
I hope at least this isn't your first time through. π
Then knock yourself out. π
modding games on the first playthrough is punishable by public stoning imo
Haldor and bog witch on starter island pretty typical? Was thinking about adding the seed im on since it has that as well as three leviathans off the coast a bit that are in swimming distance from each other. Iβm currently avoiding looking up seed info though.
That is nice. Depends on how big the starter "island" really is. It's probably more like a big continent. π
And I would say it is non-typical for "normal"-sized continents/islands.
Itβs definitely bigger havenβt explored it all yet the three leviathans are what mainly caught my attention so close to spawn.
That is very nice. I would add it, tbh. Big starter continents are always nice to have.
Probably later Iβm not ready to spoil the seed yet on my 2nd playthrough and I looked up the seed on my first and wish I hadnβt.
Yeah, I've never done it. I like the exploring aspect of Valheim.
Only time I've done it personally was when we were in mountains with no Haldor in sight
Just beat bonemass, what mountain weapon should I get?
i think mountains have silver and i keep hearing people mention silver sword
and obviously frostner
dingus
What weapons have you mainly used?
(sarcasm in the latter)
Doesn't matter, im open to any weapons
Im just going with whatever
are you open to our lord and savior frostner
(using christian address in the viking server to be less credible for ironic purposes)
Iron Mace is handy all around in the mountains to start, coupled with an Iron Buckler, you'll be in good standing.
wait... so mountains really do have iron in them
No the Swamps do, the biome before Mountains.
do swamps also have cold resist potions and gear
from my experience, Haldor on spawn island is common but Bog witch isnt
Frost Resistance Potions yes, the gear comes from the mountains.
Any can work, but personally can recommend spear and knife.
Battleaxe is super too, also Frostner is cool option.
for mountains specifically or for the whole game? im doing a spear/knife/bow run and im a little scared for Yag
You asked for mountain weapons.
Pierce weapons suffer against Yagluth tho.
And what about armour? Silver or fenris?
well no i myself didnt, i was just curious
That wasn't Psycho24u
hopefully silver knife can do well
Depends on your playstyle, are you good with dodging or more of a tank focused fighter?
Personally I go Fenris.
Both really
Speed boost and fire resistance are nice.
Also if you like fists then Flesh rippers are good.
Probably Fenris then
Okay, thanks
is troll armor, finewood bow, copper knife, bronze shield and bronze mace enough for elder
Weapon types I mentioned work well for the whole game.
true that, im very much enjoying spears with the wolf trinket and vile set
Yeah, but you also want to make sure youβre eating the best available foods. Diet > gear generally speaking
yea ill make some yummy foods when i can
you might want a bronze axe and bronze helmet
why just bronze helmet? and yes ofc ill make axe
bronze helm gives good armor for no movement penalty. the biggest upside of full troll is the sneakiness, which is completely unnecessary when fighting the elder
oh ok
upgraded troll should be fine the armor diff wont be too much
stamina i would say is also more important in this fight
you dont have to make anything for it but a mead may help
i mean i ate carrot soup
yea well i already have a level 2 troll hood so ill just use that
if possible you want to upgrade the whole troll set to level 3
yeah i will if i could i find trolls sadly i have the smallest black forest known to man with 0 dungeons
i have found 2 dungeons and 1 of them didnt have any cores so i only have 7
i sent it to screenshots if u wouldnt mind checking it out
You could also use bear armor pieces if you have killed some bears already. Only full bear set will grant the bonuses and weaknesses, so you'll be fine wearing one or two pieces of the armor set.
But in any case, bosses are balanced around having quality 1 equipment of the same biome, so you could think upgrades as just bonuses for that.
thats good to know
Also, no one can really tell you where to exactly find more black forest, you could expand the unexplored areas in middle near mountains or expand further.
I would say that your best bet would be to look if the starter island continues north and if not then go exploring for another island
thanks
Is there a mod that add filters to crafting tables?
Peeps in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934289898151966 might know.
Thx sir!
swamp so far is actually really fun
personal opinion: i think sausages are made of entrails because of devs commentary on the true nature of the dark history of irl sausage
yes.
I think the game is just very poorly optimized for NVIDIA
I have fps issues and my GPU / CPU / RAM utilization never goes above 30% they all sit around 30% while I get like 45 fps at my base
Itβs like the game doesnβt know how to push down the gas pedal so it just shits itself and drools
it is not optimized for any GPU
but valheim is very CPU intensive
Then it should hit 90%+ utilization before lagging
and what would the GPU do? help out with calulations that the processor needs to do?
I have an i9-14900K lmao
isn't it good that the game doesn't burn your graphicscard to the ground?
No
so you rather have the game be GPU intensive than CPU intensive?
I have a nice pc bro thereβs no rationalizing this game with Roblox graphics getting 45fps especially not with my sticks and stones base, I just killed the elder and donβt even have a garden etc
CPU cost like 1/3 of GPU prices. before the current AI crazy buying spree started
and what CPU do you got?
My CPU at 30% utilization, 45c, getting 45fps
I9-14900K
64GB 6000Mhz CL30 RAM, 4070 Ti Super, BIOS fully updated, edited boot.config
Alright Iβll reset it and see how it goes
just validate the game files. it fixes most
yeah the optimization for valheim is bad
I have no clue. Tried D3D12 vs D3D11, fullscreen optimizations on / off, windowed game mode optimizations on / off, messing with NVIDIA Control Panel
I mean bad optimization is easier to live with when itβs at least using my GPU and CPU to their potential lmao
Also the GPU is designed to run at 99% utilization, the GPU should be the bottleneck in a good PC build
Every AAA game I play my GPU is at like 99% my CPU is at like 10% and my GPU stays around 65c
βββ
Anyways, I do think itβs an NVIDIA thing because my wifeβs pc has a 5060 Ti / Ryzen 7 7700X and she has the same problems
My buddy has a Radeon 9070XT and his game is buttery smooth the whole time
I thought Vulkan had known issues on this update so it was advised to use dx
bites you
wierd. I got a 7700X and the game just works perfectly fine π€
with a nvidia 4080 super
so I think it's something with settings being the culprit
you know by saying that, you're following a meme thrope right?
"This game is so unoptimized" are often said by people who buy expensive hardware, and then they don't setup or anything
for example in Europe, most motherboard manufacturers don't let you use the overclock profile on your RAM
so you buy 6000MHZ ram, but they only run at base speed
Speaking of settings and 'lag' sometimes I get massive input lag. Keyboard commands seem to get delayed or 'stuck', when the rest of the system responds fine (other software, mouse movements, etc)
Is there a setting I should reset or play with? I dont think its a driver issue.
and you need to manually go into BIOS and change the profile to overclock
ALOT
yes and no
depends on where the FPS are
but BRB. it's dinnertime
boutta make my first sausages π
or maybe its a more or less accurate observation from people who play other similar games and notice differences in optimization
should i use my last troll hides for cape or upgrading the rest of my set, i have deer hide cape already and i can upgrade that
Hi, is it possible to mute game when on alt tab?
I had a problem which was identical in symptoms. I eventually found that disabling the MS Xbox Game Bar application stopped the lag spikes for me. That may not be the root of your problem. I saw the Game Bar service restarting every time I had a lag spike in event viewer.
Thanks, I will try that later
What was the new update?
Upcoming or latest?
Latest. I got a small 1 today on Steam.
Latest was the 19th of Feb, which added some fixes for the celebratory update added in 2nd of Feb.
When did you play last time?
I've played before that, it could have been a very small patch.
#screenshots I put proof of the update in there.
Played before or after February updates?
That could also be just Steam doing Steam things.
do you guys have any tips on getting ||silver|| easier?
What's your roadblock with it currently?
finding it or mining it?
i cant really seem to keep things off me when mining it. finding and mining isnt the issue, i just get attacked a lot during it kinda
Can put up some walls around it before you start mining
Or place some campfires around the area (They block mobs from spawning)
But you may inevitably have some danger nearby when you mine
I'd probably recommend walls for giving you a bit of a breather
Same method as copper: build a wall around the vein. Will stop everything aside from drake.
Can build a make-shift hut if you want to stop everything.
Enemies that cannot see you will not attack.
Just put a chest and a portal inside the hut. Store all silver in the chest, portal out all the stone.
When you've completely broken the vein and all that remains is silver, move it to the boat (if you are playing without Portal Everything turned on).
I'll suggest the opposite, dig a hole.
Push whatever golem is bugging you in it, that way it can't attack you and it will prevent other golem spawns
Drakes would also focus on it giving you a bit of time to prep
how rude
Damn, now I feel like getting a golem pet
I love my pet golem. I take him on long walks around the mountaintop every time I need more stone.

Hey! A while back I was looking on Google for ValHeim fanart; and I just wanted to see if you guys have seen these pieces before. They go hard, lemme find them real quick.

I think theyre down for ANYTHING (stealing your money)
No
Hello there!
Im curious whats your take on this:
- game allows you to train all kinds of weaponry with TWIG and Archery stand
- Nothing lets you train in such way magic, which are purlyfight related skills
- There are couple workarounds how to train magic efficiently:
3.1. Elemental Magic - you can capture Stone Golem in a pit and hit him with all day long with Frost Wand - it wont kill him, yet hits give you exp in safe way
3.2. Blood Magic - summon Poison Blob (from blob bomb), then place to next it TWIG and then summon Skeleton - if position properly, Skeleton will hit TWIG while trying to aim for blob - Skeleton can do it all day long and generate exp for Blood Magic in efficient, controlled way
How do you feel about #3? You are not doing anything that games doesnt allow, heck - you need to do a lot of preparations to create those creative, βtrainingβ setups. But some players might consider it as hacking, missing the point of the game.
What are your opinnions about this?
I do hope there would be more "official" ways to train blood magic especially. Or just a rework of XP in general. For example I think crossbows should be easier to level up than bows because you get xbows later (and historically they were easier to use)
And you shouldn't need to become a necromancer just to level up your staff of protection
-
Not a fan. Skills should be gained from actual fighting
-
Fixes problem with #1 for at least one class of weapons. Good.
-
Negates the positives of point 2 :(
I would say "remove TWIG" but that is just me π€·ββοΈ
But if you die a lot (e.g. exploring new biome) TWIG might be a way to catch up lost lvls
Act as a basically harmless mob
So you can stand there and hit it for weapon skills
I refer to TWIG as the "We have Bonemass at home." version of skill training.
Agreed, Twig makes death semi-meaningless
Best remove it
Even better
Skill training dummy so you don't zhave to fence up draugr spawns to practise shooting or such
Because you tire less and it doesnt die
I would agree with removing twig if valheim lets you gain skills more effitiently - e.g. Each biome mobs should produce more exp
Game isn't balanced around skills. They are just free buffs π€·ββοΈ
I do think skill gain needs to be rebalanced. Some things level up very fast (spear) while others levle up very slowly (dodge, blood magic)
But I don't want mechanics for afk / clicliking left click for an hour farming of skills
Is it climatic if Im after Ashlands and I go to forest to harass Greys to gain lost exp?
Idk why you would do that.
More anti-climactic
But nothing wrong with that
Greydwarves also give useful drops
Yeah, but if I want lvl up in skill, Forest and Ashlands mobs are same, just the latter puts you in greater danger
Give me higher reward for higher risk
Genuine: How are they the same?
In exp gaining
Per hit? Yes. Per mob? No.
Later biomes naturally contain more exp because mobs take more hits.
As long as you use a weak weapon so you're not instakilling them yea
It does feel a bit off
Wooden weapons vs. Greydwarves.
Doesn't help either that the wooden weapons were added
Istnt that just like Twig? π
Greydwarves are even made of wood and hate
They spawn for free, but T.W.I.G. requires finewood, bronze nails and ectoplasm to build.
Yes, but βtrainingβ with both feels the same
Seen quite a few suggestions to make stronger mobs give more xp per hit, which I personally agree with
Then I can sit on Ashlands all day long if I see it pays off
Might also help TWIG be useful for early-game / if you lose a lot of levels too, but not useful for farming to 100 because maybe it's just like... swamp tier enemy xp
Maybe Black Forest, given how easy it is to farm twig
Black forest, even all materials are available there
Wooden weapons vs. Bonemass π
Ok, so lets push movement of giving more exp for higher tier mobs? ;p
I've been supporting the movement so far with upvotes
Meh π€·ββοΈ
Man, iron is too hard to get for things to take so much of it to make. 30 iron to make axe? Bogus.
Maybe a bit hard, but I find it relatively fast to farm Iron
So much better than bronze anyways
Get used to it - you need iron basicly whole game
It's just important not to fall in the trap of building 5 different weapons and full armor and two shield and blabla and fully upgrading it
Just make what you need
Yeah, especially once you get the bone. That's when you learn just how much iron is sitting around the swamp besides the crypts XD
I consume it in my structures like chips, while bronze rarely is needed :p
Those chests are a nice break, sometimes 30 iron in them. Without chests, how much do you guys typically farm from a crypt? 50-100 right?
Whaaaat? In the ground like silver u mean? I've been delaying Bonemass because don't want to deal with new raids
Ok thx
I always skip bonemass bc of the raids
yep
speaking of silver, it was quite funny to think that regular mountains hardly have nests and veins, but the one mountain I visited with Moder's altar had 4 nests and over 10 veins π
yeah moders mountains has a lot of shit
as expected of the Mountain Mother's domain
LFG Anyone DM me Down For Anything π
Down to give me money?
the duality of metals
bronze is aids to get but you only need a couple hundred, ever
iron you can get several thousand in a single swamp and you still end up short xd
imagine this message with no context
fr tho I saw the memes
now I experience them XD
the iron memes are kinda exaggerated imo
depends on how much you like to build tbh
no iron chests? man, you are insane
bm
and with that i mean a complete lunatic
I maybe make like 1 or 2 iron chests, sometimes none
3-4 stacks is a fully upgraded atgeir
i aint delaying decent chest by two biomes
Waiting until blackmetal just feels easier
only got the club
You can also make iron chests, then swap them out for blackmetal later
black metal is the only metal to farm itself
and every player switching to be a mage is a canon event
who doesnt love some fireballs and barriers?
and a troll on steriods
barriers which enable you to parry attacks you shouldnt be able to parry
*Steroids
and becoming a walmart elder
Is it possible to get iron before fighting the elder?
yes, but its a pain in the arse
nope
you would need to kill a lotta blobs
or do blind digs for ground deposits
There are scrap piles in the general swamp. You do not have to kill oozers.
does the stagbreaker react to iron ground deposit ? didn't try myself
but seriously, id rather fight the elder naked
believe so yea
I'd actually rush and kill Elder with flint stuff because his power makes gathering bronze easier.
I just want a stonecutter before I have to worry about getting besieged by an entire zombie apocalypse
a mace will do you better
a hoe will do you better
In this case, there is nothing wrong with just gifting yourself exactly 2 iron.
honestly you don't need to worry about raids, the mobs are more attracted by you than your base, and you can kite them for the whole duration
I worry a ton about raids
But that's also because I have some game modifiers and self-imposed rules
i think i just used stagbreaker to find my first iron vein
it's too wet down there to keep digging π’
My cat when he plays with bubbles on top of the bath be like:
I'm playing on easy but last time I got raided they killed all my boars so I might be disproportionately worried about monsters wrecking my base
Oops run-on sentence
understandable
eh, its fine
didnt even end up as a second line
(the sentence and not wanting your boars to die ^^)
Did you not take it seriously, because the raid will just follow you if you meet it head on.
also native speakers of certain languages, especially germanic ones, tend to end up with long sentences
stagbreaker seems very effective versus slimes...
any blunt dmg obliterates them and a bronze mace will kill them in one combo
i just use the special attack of bronze mace on em
no need for poison pots till the boss usually
also root mask
i usually grab the mask, aye
root armour is better than iron anyway
||root armor is poison resistant||! i remember now!
and, perhaps more importantly: pierce resist
Can anyone be real with me, will valheim ever be finished
mask is poison resist, chest is pierce resist, legs don't really do anything on their own
oh god i have to ||kill "abominstions"|| π¨
les are swamp tier armour that doesnt need iron, so there is that
yeah, but there's still -2% move speed. Unless going for whole set, it's better to use bear legs
Mask is fine, but I really hope they move "chest" into "full set bonus" because a single piece being that powerful is nuts.
true
theyll nerf root chest in 1.0 probably
its literally viable till ashlands π
LF anyone Val DM me, no bots
id rather have it as is cuz options are always welcome and it has a maintenance cost in ashlands
enchanting items would be really cool
It's only viable if you literally dodge-roll everything, in which case you don't need it. π At least, IMHO.
i hear that when venturing out into the swamp ||abominations will find you?||
Not exactly. You need to walk around to find them. Staying in one spot won't work.
But they might see you before you see them
if the swamp is really small i'm guessing i gotta find a bigger swamp than the one i'm in?
Not necessarily. One time I found a small swamp with an abomination spawn, I cut every tree chopped every rock and would farm it / blood bags / entrails there
But if you dont find one then probably
guys how to trigger snow golems in mountains?
Gotta find a pretty tall mountain
do they respawn after i kill em?
Whenever you see obsidian, you are getting close to high enough. Go a bit higher.
They're not super rare, but not super common. They do respawn on tall mountains yeah
They also sometimes spawn in front of log cabins, but that's a one time spawn so they won't respawn there after you kill them
do they have trigger mechanism or they just spawn
They spawn anywhere in the mountains above 120m. Only one can spawn in an area tho, so you won't see groups of them walking around
I think when they spawn they are always buried in the snow (just like abominations) so yeah you do have to go close to them to trigger them to unburrow
Find a large mountain, run up to the highest parts, keep going till you hear a rumbling sound (it's probably rising from the ground behind you XD)
Speaking of mountains, just finished taming 3 wolves between days 11-12
Was exploring and found 4 of them milling about
They started walking over so I quickly assessed my option and found a reasonably sized beech tree
I climbed it using wooden platforms and threw food at the wolves until I had 3 of the original 4 tamed π₯°
They have now had 4 babies so we are up to 7 wolves π₯³
i had 4 wolfs
3 of em died to skeleton raid
You had wolves, why no pen? ππ
wym?
your wolves dont live in the trench?
i built stone cage for em but they broke it
You built a small hut or something for them to live in right?
You canβt rely on wolves killing raids without overwhelming numbers - like 30-50
And even then you will lose a LOT of them
Bigger cage or a trench so they wonβt aggro on raids
i was planning on moving my base tho
so its not an issue
also they were basic wolfs so its okay
And keep breeding them - you can always let the extras walk around to snag stray enemies but keep a breeding core somewhere safe β€οΈ
Itβs your 30 minutes of doing nothing while you tame new ones π€·ββοΈ
Have you found the bog witch by the by?
Hate auto correct π
no, i found 2 swamps but no witches
Keep searching - she sells something that reduces taming time by half - so 15 minutes instead of 30
I always feel like taming animals could be cool, but can never find enough incentive to actually incentivize myself to do it
At least until getting ||rideable|| ones
i have a mod that reduces taming time so idk
but i need bog witch anyways
I just tame wolves cause itβs tradition for me to do it before I leave the Bronze Age β€οΈ
question: do i need go far away from mountain to let mobs respawn?
No - just walk around 64 meters from the initial area where they were
The mobs respawn as long as you are out of range
alr
expanding a island is quit a lot of work because to perfect measuring it for the base on it
I love the lox π₯°
So much easier to get them for food if tamed and I can use the butchers knife
use planbuild for it. its good and time saving
planbuild?
mod
i do not use mods for valheim it so good how it is
that let's you play around with environment
choices.
but i was thinking if i want to build in the mid of my new base a tree symbol of or the actual big tree
spawn sfx_gjall_alerted ZSFX.m_maxPitch::3.0 ZSFX.m_minPitch::3.0
Elo just wanted to ask anyone here if I'm missing out on a great item or something that's for progression if I don't go to any caves on mountains.
There's some pretty cool gear in mountain caves that a lot of people like, but not anything progression tied
Just some other weapon/armor options
Not technically. But you will miss out on one of the fastest sets in the game and some nice decor items
Mountain caves are also the coolest dungeons in the game, imo
Oh ye forgot about that set, besides the recipes I can get from the crystals are there other items in the cave for decor. Also tysm
you're missing out on frostcave furries
some red curtains (and possibly carpets?)
idk, I don't pay attention to cosmetics much
For real, 2nd for me would be the ones in the mistlands, expected more cool stuff on the ashlands one π
Ashlands had a lot of cool stuff
But yeah the forts and dungeons really killed it for me. Bland as can be
Those furries are quite fast really scary on max difficulty π«ͺ
Ohhh ye forgot I can get those there, thanks been a while since I last played my group of builders would definitely appreciate those, me included
Someone give me a mountains weapon to use, I cant decide
A weapon for the mountains or a weapon you can craft from the mountain biome resourrces
Just hop the attack, so easy, and use ooze bombs and poison arrows. Then they are very easy
Thank you so much for the help!
Frost caves aren't hard! If you see a fire breathing cultist, wait out of range for their first attack, and then gang up on them. Or frost arrows absolutely destroy them in 30 seconds and they're so frozen they don't move
Prayge we get even half of the new biome update soon, I want to start a new world but I feel like I should just wait
but waiting is killing me lol
Silver sword I'm using it still in Ashalnds as my primary!
No i meant what do you mean with a mountains weapon lol, do you want tips regarding the weapon to use in the mountain biome or a weapon to craft with silver
if i remember correctly cultists get absolutely bodied by frostner
Like a weapon i can craft in the mountains
frostner is really good for the plains biome, silver sword is good too
Playing on normal difficulty rn though so I be chilling with my frostner probably once i visit the caves, was messy on my last max diff run though just going in bravely without much prep
The dead fear silver. Remind them why.
I did most of the mountains biome with an iron mace tbf, worked pretty well
What about weapon for the mountains
To use in the mountain
Im getting bored of my iron mace
Mace pretty good, still use it on plains and great for mountains for me atleast
silver sword then
Oh silver sword or frostner
fang spear or flesh rippers
Are the enemies not immune to spirit though?
They are but the spirit weapons are still alright
The enemies in caves are not immune to spirit
Still I prefer the non-spirit weapons of mountains for mountain shenanigans
similar to frostner the base stats besides spirit are strong enough for the spirit to not matter
its just an extra FU to any undead
you can try out the battleaxe too, never used it but looks cool i guess
if you're getting bored of the same weapon i'd just try random ones out and make it more interesting
mace is just too versatile
Oh ye does silver sword have freeze effect too, i forgot
It does?
No, it is just spirit.
Oh I see
that's just frostner
Mistwalker is the sword with both.
Makes sense would be too op and make frostner lose its uniqueness
I like the idea of the battle axe, and but the sword is also cool. Mainly because I want to use a greatsword and also using a shield is alluring for survivability
Especially if I need to remind the undead about their hatred for silver later in
silver sword is good for the plains boss and some ashlands enemies
the battleaxe doesn't gain spirit when it's upgraded so if you upgrade the sword you get a lot more damage against enemies that aren't immune
Ohhh, I sea
the sword is expensive though
See*
With friends it is a nice incentive
and that's just for level 1
Isnt it like 160 to fully upgrade?
frostner aint cheap either
i feel like silver is just dumped into a few items
rather than a little across many items
Right
True, or maybe 0.5 resources
its also only required in fairly low quantities (160 for a weapon sucks but its not like the hundreds of iron you need)
i think there should be more decoration items for silver
im glad i dont need more of it tbh
its a pain to farm
you think?
do you think
I don't think what you think
that was my idea to
Battleaxe is nice weapon. Great against crowds and has higher stagger.
Yeah I can get by fine on like 60 silver per world
But 60 iron would be a no go
60 iron doesnt even get you out of the swamp...
hanging 100 silver swords on the wall is also decorative
and you would dig up half the world in the process
watch me
i guess post ashlands its not that bad
just a casual 50-60 hours
play valheim with me π«
4000 silver if you would want lvl1 swords π€
-# Or 16000 if you would like to hang lvl4 swords π
0 silver with debugmode + b
Cheater π
its not cheats if its part of the game
It does give you the "Cheater!" stat π so its cheating
Using them literally grants your character the "Cheater!" tag. It's not intented gameplay.
no it doesnt
Have you ever looked on your stats? π
Check /stats, either on console or chatbox.
lying to me
no ty
Your loss then.
I even suspect the tag probably will prevent getting achievements once they're added.
Im going with sword purely because it can be used later as well
the tag is connected to characters right?
Tag is added to character you used commands with.
Im going to second guess it though, i already am
acting like the tag is the boogie man
it's not that deep buddy
cry about it
It's just how it works: using cheat commands will add the tag.
worst ragebait ever βοΈ

yeah just open twitter
It still silly tho π
Just weird denial.
aaw. Tenor lets me down
