Welp, since you can have only 3 food items active at onece, that would be on for health, one for stamina, and one balanced. So for swamp, the best would be Sausages, Turnip Stew and Boar Jerky. Or if you have access to serpent stew you could go with that and 2 stamina foods 😄

I recommend your primary base is always safely in the meadows. You will NEED a permanent base for at least the first few biomes. You can build bases in all the biomes as you progress, but definitely start with a solid base in the meadows. All your chests and stuff can stay there, and you'll eventually put down your forge and workbenches there and upgrade them. It is much easier to have all your resources in one place

Furthermore, I would upgrade your bow as much as possible, and then make a ton of flint arrows or fire arrows. If a troll does show up, it will follow you. Just keep it away from your base by firing an arrow at it and sprinting a few paces and making sure it's following. You can down them with flinthead arrows pretty easily tho it will take a minute, and make sure you have stanima

you can fill in the seed on a website, then draw circles between 3000m and 8000m then explore between those. But this way you sort of spoil your map

It doesn't have to be optimal if it works.

The armor you can make in each biome can handle the enemies you face. Even a bronze shield can stop a troll if you upgrade it a few times.

I find mountain not that dangerous, and carapace barely gives any armor, full set +6 (probably more but still barely noticable with 300 hp) or so

For bronze armor pieces, it's just 2 armor points more than troll at same quality, which is total of 6 with full set, plus the movement speed penalty of heavy armor.
Armor rates at quality 1 black forest tier armors are: Troll 6, bear 7, bronze 8 per piece. So if you want the best armor rate and no movement speed penalty, then bronze helmet and bear chest and legs pieces at quality 3.

Full bear armor set has significant set bonus tho, which I personally prefer over other armors nowadays.

Well... that's the problem with mods.

If your save is no longer vanilla friendly you will run into problems VERY quickly if certain mods start misbehaving.

That's why I usually stay away from world altering mods that make your save vanilla incompatible.

But I would just give it a try. Make a copy of your save folder first, though.

A mod that changes the stack size of items is pretty much no longer just QoL, it is world breaking, because you will lose that stuff.

Is it normal for a charred fortress to have no chests at all inside?

We found one that only had the bell parts. Didnt even had the boss stone

Well, they only wrote INSIDE. Could very well be that they found chests OUTSIDE.

So it really is completely normal, not to have a boss stone and only one or two chests.

You shouldn't really have an issue finding enough chests or bell pieces.

Im excited for how bases will be in deep north since from the looks of it weather there certainly has a bigger impact than in the mountains

If you took long and used aoe chests contents can despawn if the chests is destroyed happened to me at some stage

Its unlikely but it can happen, since you're trying to target the spawners but occasionally you might get the charred warlock to drop down and wander around the fortress, which leads you to targeting the warlock which then maybe was just a bit too close to the chest

The most dangerous enemies in the fortress are the skugg turrets, warlock, marksmans, and the spawner itself

Warlock is IMHO the most dangerous enemy of them all.

The warrior and twitchers are managable but having enemies that can attack you at any range in the fortress is guaranteed death

Especially when theres alot of them

That small amount of damage starts to add up when theres literally 5 of them aiming at you whilst you're trying to deal with that damn warrior

You see nothing, you're maybe surrounded by enemies and you start burning to a crisp.

Yagluth is fine. Barley wine is more than enough to get you through it.

The problem is, when the meteors hit you and you are not blocking them.

Then you end up dead very quickly.

Just avoid the fire all together and dont get exploded by the meteors

I deliberately ride his fire explosion and I try to ride the meteor shower as well, but trying to avoid/block them.

But you can have some locations outside as well. Some ruined towers in the swamp.

I’m a relatively new player and have a question. I have explored three decent sized swamps on the world. I am playing on and have only found one crypt. However, yesterday I have discovered the location of the third boss will that most likely also be in a swamp? I know I will need plenty of iron before I attempt killing that boss, but I’m having a hard time finding any.

yeah, it's a good idea to visit that swamp if you want to find crypts, even if it's far away

make sure to build the large ship to be able to transport all the ore (it needs iron nails)

We do love great decor. I make every weapon in every run, need them on those walls. That goes for armor aswell.

I have done individual armor rooms, I have done a "progression hallway" that has all armors and weapons.

My next run I am planning a progression tower where each floor is dedicated to a biome in order.

Ive done something like that, but not as a tower - as a sectioned looong hallway between kitchen and workshop. Every section hss its own biome, things. Armor, weapons and trophies. Just love it

I have intentionally played lately with limited weapon types but I find Frostner useful weapon for long period: crowd control against fuling groups, single target against bigger mobs with the secondary attack, then good to bypass seekers and soldiers physical resistances in Mistlands and also safe crowd control option in Ashlands against groups of charred around you.
Not biggest damage dealer in later biomes but safe and solid option.

My wife still loves Frostner. She uses it well into the Ashlands.

there was a time when i thought clubs were the best thing because stamina meant something and fuling camps were endgame and iron was the only battleaxe.
being able to whack a thing and it can’t whack you back because it knocked back further than its reach was also useful, also because you didn’t need to spend stamina to dodge post-whack. but now im of the strong opinion slowed is a less useful status effect than dead to inflict, and knocking something back means i cant dead it as fast

imo objectively the best weapon in the game for many situations, assuming killing things faster is too dangerous. walking circles around a 2 star morgen while it tries to turn to hit you is very safe and maybe even faster than dodging and hitting with a gem ashlands weapon

The problem isn't the waves, it's that you didn't recognize you might need to account for that in your build.

Building above the high tide isn't difficult at all. Core wood poles make it almost too easy.

high tides don't exist, it's just waves, if you build above the highest waves, half of the time you won't be able to reach the dock anyway

High waves are a result of high tides, and I've personally haven't had a single problem building above them, or being able to reach them. Can you not just build stairs even in the case of the starting terrain being very low?
