Maybe ask in #mods-discussion , folk there might know best
Thank you all, it works
Took a while to spot join code at the top
How do I bring up the emote wheel on xbox
If you’re using the default controls hold lt
Do viles have a specific spawning time? Like, X minutes after night starts etc
Basically as soon as night falls they can spawn.
As soon as night falls.
Get ninja'd robert 🥷
Still no serpents
Thank you!
:(
Ugh. I didn't have any inventory slots when I killed a vile, it's ribcage rolled into the ocean and disappeared
Speak of getting ninja'd
brutal
I've gotten pretty good at jump on lox's heads and slashing them in the back hump
Yeah I got hunted by wolves while I waited for nightfall
So I just farmed them, lots of wolf meat, very little inventory space haha
Mistwalker is insane at lvl 50
Everything in this game is trying to kill you
Even your own ceiling, as it turns out
Guys I got to the plains full black metal and padded armor max quality. I am finishing a build and then I stopped playing. I need some motivation to keep going and beat Yagulth
mistlands is great
Once you get mistwalker and carapace armour fully leveled, you can basically wade through waves of enemies in other biomes
One thing I hope the devs do is make it possible to get the eggs out from underneath the Asksvin. It looks like there is plenty of space, and should be easy to get them, but its not.
is the vilebone set worth getting? i mean the armor is quite low and the set bonus makes you take even more damage.
it's a glass cannon type build thing
it's useful for a massive physical damage build if you pair it with bonemass and berserkir.
It's good, just not ment for everyone
While no where as destructive as Lox, its not exactly a good idea to allow
Asksvin to free range around your base.
as someone who has a tendency to get hit it sounds like a deathwish. i parry a lot and i do not want a perfect parry to get me killed regardless.
sounds like heavy armor / root chest would be your choice then
i dislike the speed decrease of heavy armor so i usually go for medium armor.
im at swamp rn but im thinking of getting the vilebone helmet for a bit of extra armor.
Gl with the vile trophy
is it better than an iron helmet?
no it is not. -2 defence. but way easier to upgrade to max.
thx to my quick journey to the mountains i have a max level workbench
yeah i wouldnt have to waste half of my iron reserves on a helmet.
currently rocking full root for swamp explo but i want something slightly tankier for mountains and plains.
might make the vile set later just for base work bc of that stamina regen.
I am in Ashlands and I see some || covered ruins of buildings || - are they worth digging for?
if you dismantle them you can get grausten.
Are pictures not allowed in this dcord? Found a really cool, small plains biome completely surrounded by mountains, wanted to share
is Ashen Cape worth getting in Ashlands (to replace my feather cape)?
id say yeah, but honestly depends on situation. ashen is good for fights but feather is better for biomes like mountains or mistlands, and for flinging yourself across the map.
I ask because it says "vs frost" and it's Ashlands..
Ashen Cape looks so cool tho UwU But yeah, better for heavy armour build.
it gives a lot more armour which is nice
all capes after mountains give resistance to frost. just means you wont geet cold during the night or freeze to death in the mountains.
I think that after the wolf cape all/almost all capes give the resistance vs Frost, so it is good to go to the Mountains at any time and to not be cold at night. I don't think there's any cape that would be specifically good for the heat of the Ashlands.
but if your just around your base i would say feather cape is better
also, feather cape gives weakness against fire so id swap that out if i were you.
dont wanna get cooked
Fire mead helps with that.
true.
Not needing to constantly consume items is also good.
But if the player doesn't want to make that much mead or to carry it around, maybe not using the Feather cape would be better. Depends on the build and the play style.
Why is everything in the cave 1* 😭 that is BRUTAL
Exactly.
it's a special cave
Oh, they’re not all like that?
makes sense, thanks
I have been struggling through this thing for an hour 😭 I’ve died like 5 times already
Weird... my game is lagging since Ashlands - first time it happens. The sound is stuttering
Yeah, it's a known thing in the Ashlands rn. We hope the devs fix it soon 🙏
my personal opinion is feather cape for mountains and mists, if possible something better for other situations.
hmm ok
same reason why i use things like the root harnesk way later in the plains too. counters deathsquitoes nicely. and why i wear my root mask for swamp exploration.
Im trying to think up something cool to build with a golem trophy
how about a large crown for a giant king?
I like ask cape in Ashlands
ask cape and moder power should synergize 😔
I’m holding out hope for stuff like that being changed for 1.0
hollowknight
did that last past do something to the block? i have lvl 3 silver shield.. 35 block and cant block a single hit in the plains..
im using an iron buckler and have no problem parrying everything except berserker swings
what are you eating?
could be on hard/vh?
wolf skewer, sausages, and muckshake
yes, i do have it on hard. but it shouldnt be that much harder tho right?
aha. theres your problem. low health foods combined with high difficulty. i suggest getting your hands on serpent stew and turnip or onion soup
blocking strength scales with your max health. if your health is low, so is your block strength.
so 145 health starting out in the plains is low?
wait thats 145?
wait a minute its wolf skewer not jerky. ok youre good, but i suggest getting serpent stew anyway bc that stuff is op.
145 is not "low" per se.
Proper Mountain food HHS would have you at 166 hp 154 stamina.
Skewer + Sausage + Eyescream
ya, skewer sausage and eyescream is actually what i am eating, i made a mistake earlier when said muckshake
So you're exactly what you "should" be at for entering Plains.
hard mode definitely is harder.
This sheet is pinned in this channel if you ever lose it, but you want the Configurations tab: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1b_obmQ_F5u5p-2K0NvFNzL2aHWLauisve63lvOsoD54/edit?gid=2047891512#gid=2047891512
@humble fable ☝️
thank you
in that case the problem might be the extra difficulty and perhaps even low block stat.
What is trying to be blocked/parried?
most likely fulings, maybe even a lox
Shield?
fulings, even sketter, silver shield lvl 3,
idk what sketter means?
This on Hard or VHard?
deathsquito
yes hard
So at 0 skill, the things you cannot parry with that shield on hard are:
- Lox
- Starred Fuling
- Fuling Berserker
- Vile
At 100 skill you can attempt Lox and 1-stars.
But yeah, on Hard+ you really need Evasion Mantle or just embrace dodging.
gotcha
(Blocking sheet is also pinned in this channel. And I recently updated it to include Evasion Mantle parries.)
Its either power level block or dodge roll enjoyer
man dodge roll skill is impossible to get to high lvls
Evasion Mantle does a lot of work in H/VH
Bucklers also do a lot of work. Not the most applicable for plains though unless you fancy skipping ahead to mistlands first
good luck getting the eitr for that
and the black cores
I've done it in mountains gear on hard before
Flesh rippers go hard
Since then they've lowered the overall difficulty of the game a fair bit imo, so should be fine now too
i personally LOVED the new bear paws when i restarted the game. those things work for swamp too.
since retired those things but my fists level is a whopping 57
me personally i only enjoy the bear paws, then swap to swords
but fists are good
i also wish there were some higher tier fist weapons
i mean the maulclaws exist but prolly wont do well in the ashlands...
Pretty nice for Plains tho. One hit staggers a berserker
yea, I just feel like they fall off hard come mistlands/ashlands
I'm sure they work, but why not use something else that's better?
Whats the upside of leveling dodge?
Less stamina usage?
I would yeah. That's kind of the point of the weapons skipping biomes, so you can try different things
Or extra I-frames
I tend to swap weapon type every biome
Or farther roll
Ah less stamina
I would imagine farther roll
Other games with dodging skill tend to do this
yea i just stick with the usual 3-4 the entire run
weird... in Ashlands, the crow was sitting on a pillar telling me something about a forge... first time i didnt understand the message
Lately I've been doing mostly knife/axe/sword/fists/spear/crossbow in my runs, but I dapple in a bit of magic too
It's pretty cool imo
On fire and has a cool quest behind it
Would be nice if it was actually mechanically good though
One can only hope it does something special in DN (prob not)
Because this isn't a PvP game?
🤦♂️
I can't...
By players or by the natural enemies that raid you in the game?
Stop joining servers that allow that?
Stop joining random servers filled with people you don't know?
With people you do know?
Get better friends?
🤷♂️
Then play solo, given that is the primary way this game is developed?
It is an SP game that happens to have co-op.
The same way the majority of players do?
What do the love potions do?
Skill issue.
They increase Troll spawns.
Oh
Yes, it is.
It is.
Thank you fellas
Yes, it is.
Yes, it is.
Yes, it is.
Yes, it is.
Yes, it is.
Yes, it is.
Yes, it is.
😭 It's a solo game with coop added on to it. The developers have even stated this many times.
☝️
🧙♀️ ⌛
- You don't.
- Stats are literally free bonuses, the game isn't balanced around them.
Chose to switch from spears to magic*
Don't switch if you don't enjoy that aspect, though skills will level up to a very usable level quite quickly anyways.
Grinding? In a game based on grind?
No... say it ain't so.
That's like complaining about having to shoot things in Marvel Rivals...
It's the point of the game...
Magic is good enough to beat the rest of thebgame at level 0 to be fair.
Then go back to it. 🤷♂️
Valheim is beautiful 😍
The entire map is round...
There's no voxels in valheim
If the intentionally chosen art style bothers you, go back to Rivals.
I don't want to.
Making the grind less of a grind would make it no longer Valheim.
off to bed good luck sev

I would nerf resistances across the board
lmao
the game isn't balanced
this much is true
no, one sword per world map
your options are a) use mods to reset the sword parts #mods-discussion b) use a different world map and find the parts there or c) devcommands spawn in the parts probably in a solo world so they work unmodded etc
Or simply load backup save of character/world from before the obliterating happened.
true
Like said earlier, increased troll spawns, but also guaranteed spawning with at least 1 star during the timer, given you're over 2000m from spawn point.
Hey all LF a EU vanilla server
hey slipmatt, best to try in the #1024264966712340510 channel 🙂
Thanks rsmlord done that just being greedy All i can find is NA servers recruiting
Be patient. EU is mostly waking up during this time.
https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 is where one can keep LFG posts, so other channels don't get bloated by them.
I missed quite the chaos 4hours ago
Why would you obliterate an item that is only obtainable once per world
Wondering myself...
The problem with most players that claim that this game isn't playable solo is, that they have difficulty understanding what this game is about.
Valheim is not a fast paced action title with instant rewards and a compelling story line on rails.
It is the exact opposite of that.
Valheim is deliberatly slow paced, open, and rewards exploration, planning and over all, preparation.
If you're not willing to do that and just want instant gratification, you will fail. Over and over again.
A lot of players just have the problem of thinking they're skilled pro-gamers when they're very much not and consider any part of the game they can't effortlessly steamroll a balance issue because they can't admit they simply lack the skills and consider lowering the difficulty an insult to their "gamer honor".
Steam forums are full of that type.
oh my i did miss the chaos earlier (lucky me) ... how is Live in the 10th world for all of you? 😄 I have been revisiting old world and characters having a good ol' time
Not much of a loss tbh.
Started new world for testing how Early axes fare, I got lucky and found both axe heads very early and they quite obliterate 2 first biomes and fare also well in swamps.
As someone who rushed mistlands on my second playthrough, valheim really showed that it is really meant to be played slowly, if you rush things without knowledge, preparation, experience, or even knowinh what you are doing, you are practically shooting yourself in the foot and begging to not have a great time
This game really rewards you for taking things slowly and making preparations
That usually occurs in March, as we hibernate from November 🥱😴
Ah, well at least us Nordics.
can i join someones server and grind there?
People got too used to the fast pace type games and thinking it applies to other games aswell
oh okay didnt see it thanks
I have yet to find the second one... I started a new world not to long before the update, but the mysterious axehead is kinda elusive 😄 gonna run around some more unexplored meadows
I am known for my bad luck with finding new things 😄 I can not count h ow many hours I had to run around the world to find the first rocky 😄
Finding Rocky is now bit easier since last update: #screenshots message
mysterious head only drops from the square wood towers
they're kinda rare compared to the others
I found one of those locations in one of my trophy hunt streams and went back there after the hunt to inspect it closer... have not been able to find one in my regular worlds though... gonna get there
I did some searching and console command using in my oldest world and found out the new POI isn't added in older worlds. Although using genloc might solve that.
Hm... I can live without in my older worlds, I had hoped I could find one in my latest "all default settings" game though... but that was generated before the update so maybe not
Iirc genloc can be used without enabling console commands. Maybe can be written in chatbox even.
it can be written in the chatbox 😄 I just tried it out in one of the worlds I do not care very much about 😄
Yeah, that's what I thought. Since it doesn't add "Cheater!" tag to player either.
well that would not bother me at all, as this world is a tryoutthings world where I do use devcommands and nocost to try out building ideas and stuff 😄 I would not cry if that world got corupted so I used that one to try it out
God I hate fog
It always comes at sea when you need to scan the damn horizon
From a storm, to fog and now of course NIGHT TIME
AAAAAAAAAAAAA!
@gloomy hull you can try building a chair
Finally found a mountain again.. blizzard.. this game really doesnt want me to be able to see a damn thing haha
Odin gained wisdom and power by sacrificing an eye. This is his way to teach you
Meaning if I lose ALL sight ALL the time Im superior to Odin
How come boss icon placement was removed from controller? That seems a bit pointless?
Afaik we were never supposed to be able to place those, so its just returning it to the intended state really 🙂
But I can still place it on mouse and keyboard 🤔
Plus, I just discovered Moders spawn point. Isnt placing a boss icon a good feature to making sure its saved?
More utility and quality of life is usually better than less. I dont understand what the consequence could be of letting us place it ourselves
would be nice to have some grouping in the crafting station
force just has unorder list of soooo much staff atm...
Yeah, I would like a search box.
Once you got a lot of stuff to craft, a search box would help immensely.
Type /sortcraft into the chat bar 👍
There's 3 different ways to organize them
I’m out of arrows, is there any way I can deal with these annoying drakes 😭
They aren’t really a threat, but they’re annoying as hell
If you’re able to grab enough wood from fir trees, you can slap down a workbench and crank out some wood arrows. Might take a few more hits but they’ll work in a pinch
If you have spear you can throw it at them.
Aim precisely or say bye bye to your precious wolf fang spear

Nope, just got a mace 😂
I’m just going to run home, I’m full up on silver anyway
for real learn to spear them, they very predictably pause to shoot at your, you can even hit them with 2 spears in one pass if you want
I’m going to continue using the bow
My aim is HORRIBLE, and arrows are much less expensive
does anyone here know of the top of their heads: do misttorches suppress spawns like campfires do?
I kinda wish there was more to the food
I miss all the option and material-mania of Nightingale
okay I did look it up... it does not... what a pity...
“More to the food” muffled deranged laughter from underneath the sheer mass of Valheim Cuisine
Halp I’m modded and I can’t get up!
huh?
Heck. I knew the dvergr lanterns don’t. Unfortunately I learned that after upgrading all my street lights
I have a mod that adds a ton of food items and I’m just laughing about it is all
oh, Cuisine is name of the mod and not just in general vanilla food
Vanilla is decent on food. IMHO. There's a LOT of it.
And "more to" needs an explanation. What are you missing?
More variety? More stats that can be boosted? But what stats?
What I like about Valheim food is that it is never obsolete. Sausages? Eyescream? Still usable much later, when you're not out and about in Ashlands.
more then minecraft sure, and probably compared to many other games too.
but...
man, in Nightingale you have so many options
and that multiplied by crafting system
it just leaves a mark on you hehe
a good one
I miss oil and spice.
I think it's the least that could be added
what stats?
not easy to answer since everything that comes to mind from other game would change the balance Valheim has,
but, just to name a few: stamina regen, damage resistance and bonuses, speed, stealth even
but more importantly is having variety in recipes and ingridients
I understand that most of the difference and nostalgia comes from not having that kind of crafting system in the first place...
part of gameplay in that other game is not just figuring "what" effects I want to get from food, as in general direction and balance,
but also the "how" which involves picking right recipe AND materials!
disclaimer: comparing is simply a tool that can be used to highlight strengths of different stuff
I don't mind the simplicity though
So, I got a new computer. I wanted to get back into Valheim so was going to install it on my new computer. I still have my old computer with Valheim installed. I checked that machine first to see what the name of the mod I had, Valheim Plus. I go looking for it to install it on my new computer and I can't find it. There are a ton of other mods out there and now it seems so overwhelming that I don't think I want to play it anymore. I had downloaded Thunderstore and there are so many mods.
Don't let it overwhelm you. You can always add mods gradually based on what you want to achieve
There are a lot of videos on YouTube that highlight some of the more popular mods
my advice would be just don't use mods, if it's been a while since you played there's plenty of things to experience for the first time.
Yeah it doesn't. Which makes it easier to spot hares if you plant them around some areas in Mistlands.
I had hoped to place them around my mistlands base to prevent that damn gjall from making an appearance every few days 😄 I guess I am going to place campfires and workbenches then 😄
Thank you everyone! I enjoyed this community and hope to find it elsewhere.
I am deleting Discord after 9 years and recommend everybody do the same:
https://discord.com/press-releases/discord-launches-teen-by-default-settings-globally
https://discordless.com/#alternatives
DO NOT BUY NITRO
DO NOT UPLOAD YOUR ID
DO NOT UPLOAD YOUR FACE
DISCORD IS SPYWARE
This sounds like a nightmare, there's already so many ways to influence these stats, juggling even more and staying aware of deterioration factors would just be tiresome for Valheim.
deterioration factors
huh?
Food bonuses deteriorate over time.
oh I wasn't really sure if that even exists, but there were some hints...
Yeah, keeping an eye on food timers, power timers, mead timers, and rested timers all for health regen is a lot already, not to mention some armors adding to that. It's already a lot in some cases.
Nobody forces you to buy anything.
@vast wren
#screenshots message
don’t think Ive ever seen someone with so many effects active 🤣
Good job though!
Oh yeah, I go all out in the Ashlands 😂
Are there any active pvp servers for valheim? Thanks
Go to #1024264966712340510 search pvp. A few active posts past couple weeks
anybody able to help with ashlands resource gathering?
Depending at what you need you will most likely end up with more than you'll ever need within 20 minutes of being there.
How do I see when I joined a discord server? I can see when others joined but not sure how to see it for myself
Hmm are you able to click on your own profile to see? 🤔
15th March 2023, from your profile.
Ah I see where to access it yea
#screenshots message @daring garnet afaik Serpents can spawn anywhere in ocean biome, so as long as your minimap says 'Ocean', then yes.
Do note though that they only spawn during night, or during storms.
Generally, I find it better to just sail around looking for serpents than to patrol the same little area
best way to find serpents is to look for merchants and yagluth XD
Much better when you're hauling all recently mined iron.
yea true, actively looking for serpents is probably the worst way to find them
yeah i think you need to sail into ocean chunks for a % to spawn them, depending on conditions(night and rain). so its best to sail through as many of those ocean chunks as possible.
i dont think it works if you sail between 2 ocean chunks. but maybe
hehe, they can smell that cargo.
i'm having to sail a ton in ashland these days. i'm starting to appreciate how cool the "serpent" is. its pretty fast too.
speaking of, god im sad i messed up the recording, i had one of those pinacle valheim moments yesterday, i'm still in carve in my current world, HUGE wave storm taking off 1/3 of my boat's health just from hittign water and a serpent appears cuz he just knows, had to crash land into the plains and fight in blueberry paint til i could fix my boat and gtfo. it was great. so glad i dont use portals and was sailing or i never wouldve had so much fun
awesome :3
i can relate, i had one of those valheim session yesterday night. only made possible because i cant portal (and map).
i went to explore the ashland region i'm in, i went deep, got a bit lost. found FM..! but i had to find my way back, with no armor (it broke half way). it was epic.. i will never forget that run
hehe nice, ya when you dont have portal mats on you thats another interesting event that can happen
or running out of food cuz u got lost, i forget where exactly... mistlands maybe? started living off grilled bug in a cave like a hobo for a while
i feel like it was mistlands.. ive definitely have many improvised rock caves to sleep teh night just by digging in til i hit shelter
but its also happened that ive had to improvise food on the go
i found my way back to my base in mistlands with 2-3 mins left from my last foods buff... getting lost in mistlands is really a weird experience
ive been lost definitely, the bestway is finding the trail of grausten on the ground from things constantly blowing up at me
i of course never break a green beacon until im ready to fight fader, cuz that's the best way to know where u are
I've been leaving wisptorches, but not enough
i decided to use a hoe and make some paths, in the end. so i wouldnt end up going in circles
What breaks the beacon? Destroying the stuff in the middle tower?
ya, breaking the glass with bell fragments
what REALLY messed with me once was finding a green beacon that was not my beacon and running PAST it thinking that was the way, but it was an uncleared fort perpendicular leading me deeper into ashlands, got to another beacon and was like huh? went back to previous beacon also not cleared whaa??? veyr confused.
so not a bad idea to mark the fort walls or something in case u dont notice the bone balistas
i explored hours since i landed in ashlands* and only found 2 FM leviathans, and no signs of a fort.
kind of unlucky, i guess. but it made for some very fun gaming, so i'd be a fool to complain..!
ya thats unlucky, i feel like forts are always pretty common for me
i thought FM leviathan were kind of easy to find. its the 1st time i have to look for them. normally i just find one while trying to kill some askvins, very early on.
ya ashlands POIs are super obvious and abundant imo
especially coming from mistlands..........
gee a giant glowing green beacon shootign into the sky, instead of "hmm.. maybe THOSE pointy rocks with bugs nearby? or are these just pointy rocks with bugs nearby?..."
Is there a way to keep "aggro" of a npc forever and not make it return to it's point of origin?
basically keep pulling it
Hello, I need help with Valheim.
I'm trying to transfer my save to the server, but the saves look strange. They don't have the old db and .fwl files. Has something changed?
in the local worlds?
what' the medium session length for Valheim to make it meaningful?
My files look like this "multii2_forestMaskTexCache" , multii2_heightTexCache , multii2_mapTexCache
I had the exact same issue, but only for worlds in the local folder. You want smth like the .fwl files right?
I can log in to games normally on my computer, now we have set up a server with friends and we wanted to transfer the server, although the files are different than in the guides
there is a button in world management, that either switches a world to "local" or "cloud". That might do the trick for you and then give you the 2 files, that you actually want.
I specifically need multi.db, multi.fwl, multi,fwl.old.
I've tried many ways to download the cloud save, but I'm getting a FWL file that's missing the rest.
I think they are very rare. I have seen 1 in my entire world while having checked quite a bit of terrain for Moder's location.
I did as you wrote, and I have two files: multi data base file and multi.fwl.
I'd say average 1 per biome. Really depends though. Big tall mountains I often find like 3-4 of them, smaller mountains I rarely find any
yeah, so it worked. You always have these 2 files for the world usually. And those are the ones you can "work" with, like inserting them into other web apps and so on
Not particularly common but you can definitely find them
I want to make the Fenris armor but honestly it doesn’t seem worth it TwT
How’s valheim on the GeForce now platform, any good?
frost caves are easy to miss.
Yeah, as soon as I asked that I turned around and there was one literally right behind me
any full Pvp serveur?
probably, search "pvp" in #1024264966712340510
having a brainfart now. How would I change 2 connected portals labeled with let's say "1" to "2"?
Since if I'd change one the connection brakes
ye, right just use a third one... 🤦♂️
Make a portal that says 2 at home
Go through portal 1. Relable 1 to 2
yeah, but I can't do it without an additional portal, since otherwise I can't get back, right?
Alternatively, portals can take a second or two to adjust their connection. Change a portal name and go through immediately and it will still likely be linked to the previous portal. I've actually stranded myself a couple times by going through a portal too soon after changing its name.
Is there any later use case for the endless amount of Bone Shards you keep accumulating?
How "later" are we talking? I can think of two things that can go through a lot of bones, but I'm not sure how much detail you want in advance.
I'm at plains stage atm, and have 3 chests with bone shards at base. Do those become relevant for smth again?
or can I just ignore those and also empty the space?
The bow in the next biome costs a lot of bones and the biome after that has another use for potentially an indefinite number of bones.
Thanks! exactly the answer i was lookin for ❤️
bone shards drop in huge amounts all the way through the game
keep a couple stacks and throw out the rest i'd say
the Skeleton for Hildir dropped 4 chests, 200 weight each. that's a bit heavy 😄
The Smoldering one
I suppose one does the trick and this is rather some kind of glitch?
Is your resource rate on high? 🤔
didn't fiddle with that at all
Huh, very strange! She’s supposed to just drop one chest.
but essentially, there's supposed to be 1 and that's what I need. Multiples can't be turned in again for any kinda benefit?
Are you using any mods by chance? 🤔
my guess would be that it's a mod thing. I run a mod that makes creatures harder, but they have the chance to drop additional loot then.
Then i would almost bet it was caused by that 😄
Ah, yeah probably the mod doing something 🤔
But yeah! Only need one chest. The others can be used for decor if you wish.
i cheated yesterday.. i couldnt climb up my grausten ~~ladder ~~ steep stairs* from out of the water. i turned on god mode so i dont boil alive.
1st time i used that... is this a known issue, that grausten ladders dont work in the water?
(i could have taken the L, my bed was next to it. i just thought it wasn't on me. my char can jump nearly 3 meters high, but he cant climb a ladder if its in the water? makes no sense to me)
Never heard of a grausten ladder
grausten steep stairs*
it works pretty much the same as the wood ladder. i assumed it had the same name.
But from what i remember, the wooden ladder will break in the ashland waters. i cant use that
but again, that char can jump higher than the whole staircase, how come it can't climb it in the water?
it has to be a technical issue, not an added feature.
i had made a bunch of these staircases around my spire, well under the water level, in case i fall and need to climb back up.
it took a good amount of time and mats to do :_(
most of the grausten gets lost in the water wheni rebuild
anyone want to multiplayer?
Someone in #1024264966712340510 might want to 😄
its too much trouble
Is the upscaling method pixelated better than the another option, smooth? By better i mean better quality.
Try both and you will see if there is a difference and which you prefer 😄
That might work... or not. Not even sure if i see a difference.
If you wont see a difference, then it doesn't really matter right? 😄
the difference is there if you wanna play it "daggerfall" style
aka lower 3d render compared to native UI, which can look pretty good with pixelization masking more simplistic graphics and all
and at lower resolutions with sharp filtering you'll get those nice square pixels and with the smooth filter it's gonna be smoothed out making it just a blurry mess
well in my modded solo world, i beat fader for the first time ever (saving beating him vanilla for when DN comes out), and i gotta say, even with all my OP modded stuff, that fight was really really difficult, easily the hardest boss ive fought so far. granted, for some reason 2 of them spawned and they both had 5 and 6 stars, but even with that in mind i could easily tell that fader is one of the coolest and hardest bosses the game has to offer, the spikes coming out of the ground 1 shot my protective staff which was crazy, and if i stood in the fire i actually took damage (which normally i dont). also was super cool seeinng a dragon in this game , esp;ecially as cool as fader. i guess last thing i have to say is that boss felt different from the other bosses. fader did much more massive aoe chunk sized floor damage rather than just biting and clawing like the other bosses. really cool to see a boss that kills you if you dont move or dodge. overall, well done irongate. fader is now my new favorite boss. what a legend
imagine if mosquitos did poison damage too
I’m good honestly
Wouldnt change a thnig really lol
I suppose it would make root helmet needed to really deter their damage rather than just root harnesk
Imagine if the pierce resist was a set bonus instead of just a single piece 😉
Set bonus would be nice. Transmog bench would be too. I need more silver aesthetic in my armor
Thats how I play, it feels very nice
That wood be nice change.
Don't bark at me.
I play with self imposed rules of considering root harnesk a set bonus and also have another challenge to not use fire wine, and it actually makes root feel pretty balanced
Still very good, but not broken
Why do I need 560 pounds of silver to make a sword that weighs only 1 pound?
lol
You're a $h!tty bladesmith, I guess. We all are.
My guess is they make all the work we put into getting the mats replaces the actual work of fashioning blades. So all that ore and time spent obtaining it is just the actual work we would put into the rest of the process if it was made to be more realistic.
I guess? But it also seems unreasonable to also need half that silver just to upgrade it past level 1
Then need even more than what it took to make it in the first place to make it lvl 4. So I guess, if it is representation of actual work, they decided improving a blade, armor, etc... that much would take that much more work. Just my guess about it all, to try and have it make some amount of sense to me.
I don't think they have ever explained their reasoning behind the system they decided upon. If they did, I missed it, and would love to be pointed to it.
does the ||Vile|| spawn in the plains?
Yea at night time
Ah thanks
@silk token never seen someone roll that fast lmao
any stamina regeneration increases only buff your natural regen. There is no such thing as permanent stam regen, which would also tick up while you are like performing attacks and such, right?
No way to permanently improve your character in any way, unless you consider skills 🤔
no, I mean like are there certain consumables or buffs that regen stamina while you are actively using it like with attacks
Ahh gotcha. Hmm to be honest, I’m not 100% sure? But I don’t think so. Pretty sure no matter your stam regen rate, it always pauses during certain actions.
But someone more knowledgeable should confirm that
yeah, my description was kinda lackluster 😄
english isn't my native language
All good! My reading skills can be pretty lackluster sometimes
nah not really
the only thing that comes to mind is popping a medium stamina mead while attacking, which is possible
what I'm still absolutely uncertain about is like how you would max your bow's dps. Do you get the most out of it, if you pull the string all the way each shot? Seems to me so far that it's better not to, except you are like opening an engagement.
and the amount of charge for a shot doesn't affect the dots and effects it applies, right?
At really high levels, the draw time becomes far less
So yeah DPS does increase
I have just 17 and it feels like an eternity 🙂
What biome are you up to?
I'm having a hard time finally finding the pointer to Moder
3rd Mountain I'm checking
Keep at it, there aren't many mountains within range of where Moder can begin to spawn
Check all the caves you find
does the distance to Moder matter? I thought it can be pointing from anywhere to anywhere?
Yeah but you can also quite easily just find moder
I would disagree 😂
Haha
All the world's I've done Moder ends up being very close to spawn. There's a certain amount of possible locations and feels like even less actual mountains tbh
I am tired of mobs attacking my base in Ashlands. Are ballistas worth crafting for that purpose?
It's real fun when, your Moder location is on mountain surrounded by Mistland
rather close to the spawn you say...
guess I'll try those then, thanks.
When you're travelling down a mountain, make sure to look back up regularly to spot caves
And when you're looking for Moder specifically, the spot is always on a relatively flat area
I have been in ~4. There is nothing special in there, right?
Cultists and hair for the fenris armour, if you're very lucky a tetra pond
Crystals in bulk
Is Fenris better than silver and I'm unsure what I'm doing with the Crystals?
Hi there, Is there a mod that show the taming progression? I swear I remember seeing something once upon a time....
Crystals are primarily for making glass windows, and a couple of pieces of gear.
I'm less of a builder and usually rather build a narrow efficient workshop. But tbh I generally am horrible at building smth aesthetic passable.
always ends up looking like hot garbage 🙂
I am not strong on the aesthetics either, but I am a much better builder now than I used to be.
My first home was barely usable to sleep in. 😄
maybe similar to my run down homeless shelter
I still have my first world, and visit it to see how bad I used to be. Even so, I improved a lot while playing in that world.
Technically I need to finish it, Yag was the final boss back then.
anyone here uses ballistas?
Yes.
doesnt it show already?
I HATE LOSING MY STAT PROGRESSION BRO 😭
once I craft Black metal missile - is it infinite ammo?
but i die like every 5 minutes
No, 40 at a time.
lol yeah idk what that is, i watched the replay over like 10 times figuring out how i rolled when and still got hit or what. either way i learned only time for 2 swings or you get clobbered. early axes were fun but they’re definitely replaced by ol’ big choppy now.
i dunno, it seems like too much hassle with those ballistas - they shoot everything unless you define 1 trophy and then you have to reload them - do you think they are worth it?
Yep. I hate it too. Its what motivated me to learn how to die a lot less.
nah fr bro i've seen a patient side of me i've never seen before but i still died
They are helpful. When I run around in front of them, getting chased by a bunch of Charred, they help kill them off.
Personally I love them
Thing too is they're mostly for defending raids, and I usually know what types of enemies will raid me
just today i was dodging like 3 greydwarf shamans and a troll and i was on 15 hp the hwole time trying to kill everything bro and i was being so patient until at the very end i got greedy and went for another m1 and then got slammed i died anyway
how? Do you keep moving? And in that case, can they hit moving targets?
how many do you have?
They can, but its better to get them to move toward or away from the ballista.
they’re sort of decent. one time the first fortress i attacked i had a firing squad waiting outside when i rammed the door, it helped-ish, was fun at least. they pick off really annoying greydwarves throwing rocks at your crap around your base, thats about all i found them for imo
I posted the toilet I'm operating out of in #building-screenshots
Thanks guys. Problem is - I am out of iron (big surprise) and going back to the crypts is kinda meh
thats true good for certain raids. one base i had a little chest of specific trophies inside to grab quick and click on the turrets
I much prefer to get iron bars from the Mistland bridges. Between a stone cutter and forge, you can tear them down in seconds.
i never understood why ballistas even shoot at the player - it should just shoot at all enemies and not you
i dont think i remember any bridges there
its pretty troll, nearly killed me first time i threw down a couple of them. also think its odd
So that it can shoot at OTHER players for PVP defense
To not make it too OP
Well, any charred trophy makes them shoot at all of the charred. I don't use them for anything else, but some other trophies probably get them to target a range of any given mob.
the devs could at least gives us a module to craft for ballistas to make them more intelligent - why would i want to craft my own enemy...
Because the trade-off for having a weapon that auto-kills for you is not being able to stand in front of it.
Depends on the playthrough. I've recently been playing max raids and permadeath and I like to have quite a few to defend against fuling and 1 star fuling raids, plus farm totems. 10 is pretty good
They pair well with the traps too to immobilize enemies, or parries to double the ballistas damage
I have no idea how sophisticated the code behind the games lighting actually is, but it sure looks amazing meanwhile.
I'll tell you a secret
it sounds like ballistas are not worth it to me - i will do without them and go for the boss, instead - and then wait for Deep North
I would prefer them to shoot all enemies without targeting me, but since any charred trophy can make them target all Charred, I am happy with them.
The lighting is not complicated at all. It's actually pretty low-key. What's actually incredible is the colour selection and contrast
I'm mostly playing with color Vibrance almost cranked up completely and this brings it out even more.
but then you have to go out and farm more black metal... sigh - no thx
tbh, probably what most players do
A lot of things and mechanics in the game can be ignored. I for one rarely tame anything
you dont have a bajillion blackmetal? man i always have so much of it
I end up with so much of it I have no problem having a good use for it.
Like, don't look too closely at the shadows in this game. It's not winning any awards for that
i tamed 2 star boar and lox and have hens - i chose to ignore wolf taming, as they were just useless and annoying in my previous playthrough
spent it all
But do pay attention to the gorgeous orange hue of sunset peeking through the deep cobalt and purple clouds of the mistlands
Wolves are great because you can actually have a pack of them follow you around.
That's my view on boars and hens too
Lox and Askvin are kinda fun to ride or guard your base
I was hoping they would do the same with Asksvin, but nope.
i made a suggestion to have wolves follow you far away - it was downvoted. Right now in theory it's pretty cute. You take wolves with you locally and they help. But in practice - you fight big mobs and they destroy wolves. RIP wolf army
It can get quite hilarious when you have an army of asksvin guarding your fort
How do you usually get your "taming victims" back to base? So often the aggro range isn't long enough to bring them home, or I would have to push passively parked animals all the way home.
The 2 stars are pretty tough, but you would have to have a larger pack as you progress past plains.
taming victims?
harpoon?
Personally I like the devs view on this. You shouldn't be an army commander, so there's at least some limits in place to stop you from summoning a million skellies and riding around an army of 1000 lox to do your bidding
i harpooned a 2 star boar and "sailed" it home
I don't have it being at Moder yet. Should I?
craftable from chitin
The problem with lox and baby asksvin is that they are considered "heavy" so they drain your stamina like crazy
Plus you would need to build such armies on each island. Moving them from island to island would be a nightmare of frustration.
That's the stuff lizards grow in their arm pits, right?
how the hell are you planning to have boars follow you around in the crappy terrain of Mistlands? And how do you expect them to even survive Ashlands?
Sorry I meant wolves
lol what?? maybe? in valheim its deep sea barnacles that grow on terrible creatures of the deep
no, I even remember it being from the ocean thing
Ashlands I would not expect them to survive. If I were to use them beyond the plains, it would only be the Mistlands. But its so much of a hassle to tame and breed on each island, I don't do it.
Why are we trying to take wolves beyond plains
here was my suggestion #suggestions message
but I mean, is taming really such a struggle before having that naval animal hook? I had such a hard time getting my boars to where I wanted them 😄
i havent tamed boars in a loooooong time. if i just kill them when i notice them ive never needed
hide or meat
atm I need the meat for the feast or Wurst
generally when i have tamed anything it was very near where i was building.
I didn't suggest "1000 pets following you". I suggested that animals like wolves could actually be useful long term and help you in battles far away
new idea for a feature: anti flammable creme for wolves
in my case there are really no boars around and the ones I tried to pull broke their aggro leash each time before getting them home.
idk just go hunting imo. take a day to do a spin through a meadows biome you’ll get a stack and some berries/mushrooms while ur at it
I am already seeing a few problems
honestly, thinking back, taming 2 star boars was not worth it at all - too bad that old meats can't be incorporated into new foods. They become inferior fast
and btw are e.g. animals like unique entities? I mean like if you tame them, will another one respawn at their location instead?
or is there no respawn until the specific one dies?
I make a heck of a lot of coal out of neck, boar and deer meat. 😄
This game needs a lot of rebalancing. A lot of the game is awesome and the old materials can still be useful for new things. But too many old materials are just being useless for anything. Low level meats, hides, etc. Just bags full of tons of useless resources. It's a shame..
New ones will respawn where you caught any you tamed. I guess its treated the same as killing them.
Is there any method to finding the Leviathan or just wing it?
RNG luck.
Good way to get coal: Flooded surtling camps in Swamp (plus u get cores)
i think ive just learned to not gather more than ill need, i dont have chests full of old mats, i have like a stack for feasts or potions, i dont horde and goblin things
Oh, I do that too. Plus put honey in my obliterator. I went into the Ashlands working on my second BM chest of coal.
See, I tried that too - but then I'm like: If I don't loot everything now and need it, then I have to go out and farm it later
you can just farm it later then. there are meadows everywhere
bm?
oh, black metal
Thats what I used the obliterator for. I always need more coal. So if I can't burn it on my fire pits, I throw it into my obliterator. Get rid of old gear, old weak meads, etc... Of course, Gear doesn't give coal, not sure about meads.
Honestly I don't see the point doing too much in the game. But again, I play solo lately and my aim is to progress and kill bosses and be done with it.
the fun thing for me in games like this is to calculate the route to the next goal by putting minimal amount of effort to get the most benefits
imean that is the “goal” of the game. i like to build and idk if i’d go as far as “role play” but building things not minmax or taking the time to make something for vibe reasons
I do more building while playing solo than when playing with others.
so you like speed running. or looking up 100 guides before playing a game to make sure you beat it the bestest and fastest?
Except two people. Did a crazy amount of building with them.
I dislike games like Vintage Story for lacking Valheim's progression system. And people there are like: "have you never played in a sandbox as a kid?"
And I'm thinking. I am in my 40's now, lol. I don't have an eternity to play 1 sandbox game when there are so many other good games out there
Therefore - progression system is a good thing. Having an ending is a good thing.
hehe, i feel like i’m in my 40’s i dont have the need to rush through a game
Hey guys. I got the forge but I dont see any trinkets? I have the latest patch. am i doing somethin gwrong?
My problem is I like Valheim too much. There are a lot of games I am tempted by, but so far I'd rather do another play through of Valheim than try the new game(s).
not necessarily "speed running" - I use games like Valheim to learn to stop procrastinating or find excuses not to progress further. I like to plan ahead, set a goal and go with it. Make a list of things to do, build, get, etc.
Valheim is kind of like a strategy game for me
same, i make little to do list signs, i like no portal to plan and pack strategically for what i’ll need
but i dont feel this burning desire to win the video game, more like just live in it, i get to the end when i get to it
Thats big part of replay value to me. Each new world often requires anew way to most efficiently get my ores back to whichever base I am processing them at.
it's like thinking about it from a scientific approach on a graph. How much effort should I put into this one thing before seeing diminishing returns and it stops being worth it.
Example: a good looking base is nice but at the end of the day it's just a utility for me: storage, shelter, crafting stations. So I try not to spend too much time building it "perfect"
I always envision a huge, epic looking base, but end up living in a box, lol - and... it works
Now I just use a duergr village.
i make small as possible to function comfortably, vibes are important, i improvise with the terrain or found structures, i try to never make the same layout. sometimes i find cool stuff and sometimes it sucks lol. but each character has a vibe if only i know it in my head and i build to that
the only reason I kind "rush" through Valheim is because it's my like 5th playthrough, I have around 550 hours played and I have a huge backlog of awesome games I want to play before I go tits up lmao
this might be a dumb question: Can you actually hide certain gear pieces while still having them effectively equipped?
heh, well then play those til 1.0 comes out!
makes me think that: I would love to try Factorio but I fear it, too - you know why
I recommend you trying Vintage Story... that game is really something special. And also - everyone should play Subnautica at least once in their life. And This War of Mine. Awesome survival games.
it's not so much to "win a game" as it is to "complete a task" - it's like gaming is a symbolism for me to complete tasks that I want to finish and not just think about it. Mental exercise
Please make your decision wisely before playing factorio
This is not me not telling you not to play factorio
lol i know... i heard it: "the factory must GROW"
this is a warning
have you played it a lot?
do you regret it?
With over 250 hours in 3 weeks, the only regrets he may have is about lost sleep.
wait ok - so... according to ChatGPT it's around 12 hours a day on average... omfg
Yeah, I had similar numbers for Valheim. But I am retired, so never lost sleep.
I mean when you think about it.. it's just a game - pixels and code. But the formula behind it. It's actually a bit scary and still surprising that it's not regulated more like cigarettes, alcohol, etc.
Those aren't regulated in the states, you can smoke as many packs per day as you can afford, and your welcome to become an alcoholic.
I just mean - put a warning on it or something to let people know
The lost sleep tells you. But we ignore it anyways. 😄
gaming sounds more serious to me, because it's not that obvious
I can't find a funny Valheim video I saw once. A dude takes a break from work. Launches Valheim and says "I just gonna mine some copper" and just like that the entire day is gone lol
It does steal all your attention. Time can fly with ease.
We should enjoy it now, since the game mechanics are still someone simple - in 5 or 10 years from now... then it might be even more addictive
I can think of worse time eaters that are fairly common and people just consider it life.
Like, can you imagine ignoring your life, body, mind, sleep just to train your 3 star boar in Valheim 2?
You shouldn't stop taking care of yourself and you certainly shouldn't be cutting your life short for the sake of something as purely hedonistic as gaming, but as long as you're doing alright then it's hard to argue that gaming is a worse use or your time than most activities.
Ye I saw it, definitely a new take. One of the few suggestions I just hit with a thumbs down instead of a ♻️
If I had the space and materials I would be building stuff in real life and people would call that productive, but it would ultimately just be for my enjoyment and the products would be unimportant, the same as what I build in Valheim.
but as long as you're doing alright <-- you could be doing alright, but have a weakness for games. Some people have ludomanic tendencies.
All I'm saying is that life is loooooong and you ultimately "waste" most of your time if you actually hold it all to the same criteria. You could consider a ten-year-long relationship that ultimately didn't work out to be a waste of tens of thousands of hours of time if you're expecting everything to result in some kind of material gain.
Just don't ignore your health, finances, or friends for videogames. If you still have those three covered then build a virtual castle!
I think it's a question of having wisdom enough to sense if the arrow is pointing one way or the other. Does this activity makes you happy or vice versa
And it's a tricky one, too .. your mind / ego can be happy but what about your body?
I used to have a wood working shop. Made chests, dressers, bed frames, etc... for friends and family. I also used to do gem faceting and cabbing Then I became disabled, and those issues made it impossible for me to do the precise work I needed to do. I replaced all that with gaming. Both on computers and board games, card games, etc...
Nice. I'm in the opposite position. I build things now and then, even my own computer desk (it's a mechanically operated sit/stand desk), but I don't have the resources to make stuff on my own property so I have to borrow space at work on my breaks.
It takes a long time to design and build a desk in 30min intervals, so my primary outlet for creative building is in games. I don't really need to build my own desk anyway, it's just for fun either way.
Yeah, it was primarily for fun. I just enjoyed doing it.
It was what I did with my spare time. I was in the Navy at the time.
Oh, nice. What'd you do in the navy? Lots of wrench turning?
I make too
It's like an addiction or something
Even just today I've been learning to cook some things and I looked up yakitori. Minutes later I'm googling fire bricks so I can construct a hibachi grill of my own
A few months ago my family went on holiday and I needed a project to keep myself occupied
So I looked up puppet making (my son is 3 years old)
Three weeks later and my family comes home to a house full of like, 15 puppets, I have a green screen, I've written a script
Valheim keeps me out of trouble tbh
Some. I was a Missile Technician, so did a rather wide range of things.
Air Force civilian, deskwork. Boring. 😉
And here I shovel horse shit for a living... 🤣
I also do administrative work
That way funnier than it was supposed to be
Administrative work sure is my nemesis
Good thing I don't have to do that ever again
I went from 30 years managing retail stores to managing funeral paperwork. I'm actually quite happy with admin work 🙂
Oh...well..managing retail stores is like administrative work but with bad working conditions
Like you have a boss and he tells you to do some tasks and all and it's always the same thing and you get no creation no thinking I would hate that
Good thing you found something you like
I hit metal all day and I'm happy with it
Man, this server is full of employed people 😂 makes me feel somewhat self-conscious
I work as a museum guide part-time
Im a flexjobber. 10Hours a week 😁
are veinmine mods banned or what
why cant i stream anymore??
You seem to have "no stream" role. You may send DM to @dusky pivot if you want the reasoning for having the role.
Can I actually get anything out of fulings/fuling camps pre-Moder?
I have rank 3 Mistwalker in Ashlands. Is the new 1 handed sword variant worth it if I have 2 Iolites?
Worth is subjective.
which weapon type is generally effective against most mobs in Ashlands, besides the 1h sword?
The only weapons that are "less effective" would be spear/bow/arbalest due to enemy pierce resist.
All swords, axes, and the mace do equally well.
If you're a sword guy, slayer and nidhogg are both great lightning options.
maybe the dual axe thing, then? AFAIK they are fast and will utilize the lightning damage the best..?
Aye. Berserkir are really good.
I wasn't a sword guy until Ashlands. Someone said "Mistwalker" and I only used that one, since. That and Spine Snap (now Ash Fang rank 2 which i kinda regret)
Odd, given Silver Sword is actually better 😄
Better than what?
Mistwalker.
You can get crops which you can start growing in preparation for killing Moder. I believe you can also turn the barley into fire resistance pre-moder
no idea - MW worked for me pretty effectively, so far
Speaking of killing Moder, does she spend time on the ground, or would I have to mostly rely on bows
She does spend time on the ground, but bows do still help because she spends a good bit of time airborne too
and carapace shield
I'm a big fan of fang spear or fleshrippers against her
Silver Sword does slightly more damage while costing noticeably less stamina per swing.
But yeah, upgrade to a lightning nidhogg and enjoy the sparks!
It depends on the enemy. Silver sword is only better for charred and valkyries
Morgen?
question is - whether Thundering Berserkir axes would be more valueble to make, since it's a different damage type. Difference between Nidhogg and Mistwalker doesn't seem that big
mistwalker is better
Both are slash + lightning, what do you mean "different damage type"?
Are Morgen immune to Spirit or something?
they're neutral but valkyries and charred are weak
Speak to me in numbers.
i mean - spawners in fortresses are weak to chop. Thundering Berserkir axes are chop. Plus they are fast and do aoe, right?
meaning Thundering Berserkir axes are supposed to be better at clearing fortresses?
If you're optimizing to kill spawners... sure?
If you just prefer dual-wielding - Axes without question.
If you like the blocking power when needed - sword and board.
ok, Thundering Berserkir axes it is, then - i will use Mistwalker + Carapace Shield against single targets for block and fuk up Charred Fortresses effectively with Thundering Berserkir axes
I’ve got the flesh rippers yeah, I do quite like them
Do I still level up my fists skill normally with the fenris set?
thanks for the brainstorm
💛
at level 1 mistwalker has 75 slash (37.5 with physical resist) and 40 frost, 77.5 damage to a morgen
silver sword has 75 (37.5) slash too but only 30 spirit, 67.5 damage to a morgen
with each upgrade, mistwalker will do 11 more damage to a morgen (+5 spirit +6 frost)
and a silver sword will do 8 more damage (+6 slash (3 with resist) and +5 spirit)
there are so many weapons in this game - can get overwhelming 😄 and I don't feel like wasting mats on inferior builds when playing solo
logic wins 😄
@nocturne wolf I created Ash Fang rank 2. I used Spine Snap (max rank) before. Did I make a mistake of creating AF rank2?
Flametal weapons without gems can be upgraded to level 3 for more durability, but that will be a mistake if you want to turn it into a gemstone weapon
And also, which arrows should I use in Ashlands for mobs like Valkyries? Frost, silver or other?
ye i learned that yesterday :/
oh well.. 5 flametal wasted (on r2 upgrade).. sh*t happens
Frost remains the uncontested best arrow in the game 3 biomes later with no signs of them caring about arrow balance 😄
frost arrows will tickle any mob in DN 😄
Charred arrows for valkyries
but frost arrows only deal 4 damage less so they're still good enough if you want to shoot at other enemies without swapping arrows
thanks - i will see how many mats i have for each and craft the corresponding arrows
3 biomes later... and the trade is 4 damage vs. movement slow...
Fair and balanced arrow diversity.
but frost arrows - don't they slow those flying b*tches?
Bitches*
And idk if flying things care.
my biggest fail in Ashlands was being knockedbacked into lava by freaking Valk... 40 mins of my life gone
frost slows enemies more if it deals a higher % of their health as damage
valkyries having a lot of health means they will be slowed less
how the heck do you know all this..
genuine question from curiosity
btw.. why do catapults exist if there are rams?
you can launch yourself
lol
we're all flying to deep north
hehe
Because I think there was supposed to be more sieging in Ashlands, but it was not added due to time.
no feather cape = RIP
No crutch cape ever added = game better.
Fight me 😛
Have, done.
#NOCAPES! 😛
Flying movespeed isn't affected but flying turnspeed still is, which isn't super useful but at least it does something
Edna is my Shieldmaiden 😛
This game seems so experimental (mostly in a good way). Every new biome adds something new. The downside is that there doesn't seem to be enough content to try out all the items, weapons types, etc. I don't know, maybe it's just me and my lack of experience with them
Different weapon sets add to replayability imo.
Some things I never crafted and it feels like I never missed them
Do a whole run as an axe main.
Then do your next run forcing yourself to try spears.
I don't know if I could ever gimp myself like that when there are more optimal ways
I tend to swap to a new weapon type every biome, sometimes even running 2 weapons in one biome, and I feel like I get to try out most of everything
Gimp how? Spears are incredible and you just allow for exceptions.
I.E. Mace for Bonemass, Silver Sword for Yag, etc.
if it's not your sword why would you obliterate it
Because he's a troll. He was here yesterday, trolling.
I always used one-handed mace and shield before. Then on this playthrough, I decided to use polearms/atgeir. But now they are kinda obsolete in Ashlands. Still used Frostner for a few bosses. Crafted a sword for the first time.
Gonna make dual axes for the first time. I do tend to min max
On your next one, run spear/shield with boss-weapon exceptions.
Feel free to swap to whatever in Ashlands.
Spears are really good.
Probably mostly for the reaction. He also @'d me for little reason, just to show me a picture of it in the obliterator
If I'm gonna play again, it's gonna be with my buddy in co-op, where I try something completely new. And in order for me to replay the game solo, I think I'm gonna wait a few years until they add more interesting things to spice everything up (if they ever do).
Same guy who wants them to upgrade the game to 4k graphics and give everyone Marvel Rivals's butt physics...
i'll keep that in mind
suggest mods
honestly of you obliterated the only unique and very difficult to get weapon in the game id not play with you too lol
"I am a shit friend, why did my friend leave?"

Only way to deal with trolls is spear in hand.
"I am a shit friend, why did my friend leave?"
🎻
yes, I know, but how??
My god... Im askin how oblitirator left the sword in the playthrough?? ....
How ar ye not gettin this? Im askin how...
its but a simple quyestion..
Can't you spawn it in with the dev commands?
He is saying you cant obliterate it. the game doesnt let you.
Ay, hence why i ask how
Ya probably just forgettn anabout it in a chest. Take a we look around
But how?
what did you recieve then? besides a missing friend
lightning can strike but not obliterate it? maybe its still in the obliterator
how much
Honestly, though he shouldn’t come back just because you tried it in the first place
Hmm, now I want to know what happens when you yeet it with the catapult.
Off the edge of the world 😉
it gets oblitirated
Sure, I’ll put all my stuff in a chest when I log out
no thank you.
Don't forget to place your rancid remains trophy in the common area
The rancid remains are elsewhere.

devcommands

I’m still not sure what you mean by commands are useless without mods. I’ve used commands a ton and I have zero mods ever.
Given I will cut my own fingers off before modding, and I can use devcommands whenever I wish..
No, you do not need mods to use them.
did thunderstore tell you that?
Dedicated servers might need mods to allow console commands but self hosted worlds don't require.
If you are the host, all single-player rules apply to you.
By "self hosted" I mean when you open the world as server and you host it.
Dedicated is hosted by some 3rd party host (either host service which usually costs monthly or setting it up in any older machine).
Ok, so it's dedicated server.
If you create new world in the menu you can use commands in that world.
"Self hosted" means non-dedicated servers which require host opening the world as server before others can join.
Aka normal world which you play offline as single player.
Yes, you can use commands in worlds you've created.
Even when you host that world as server.
No, it will be different world.
Your dedicated server doesn't allow anyone using commands.
So create single player world, use commands there to spawn the sword and take it to the server.
Mods maybe can allow using commands in dedicated servers, but I have no experience in those.
it's how long someone has been in the chat room
What are Basalt Bombs good for?
Creating a temporary platform in the lava.
how long will it last and is the area bigger than a 4x4 grausten floor?
lava has become a problem of getting to flametal and fortresses
I got no idea how long it lasts, as I've tried it only once.
But it's been considered as useful by those who mined the Flametal spires.
The Wiki may have more info about it as I do.
Valheim has become an RTS game with the these sinking flametal deposits 😄
I'd say that escaping the sinking spires is actually an act of survival.
I still can't figure out what is more worth it: Major Healing or Lingering Healing mead
Major healing IMO.
If I'm low HP I prefer getting it back instantly instead of having higher HP tick every 10 seconds.
With max health regeneration lingering will give you less than 135 health over the duration (less than because I'm ignoring the decay of regen over food duration), barely more than what the major healing gives you over a shorter duration and shorter cooldown
so if you're not using max regen food that you ate right before the potion it's probably less healing over the full duration
not worth it at all
it should be a flat increase instead of multiplying your current regen
so, best food and insta health potion is the best mix?
Hey that's good, I would like working as a museum gide
Couldn't stop forging tho, so it would have to be part time
What is the next thing I should do after defeating the elder?
I wouldn't use my best food if I am in my main base and fighting off a regular invasion
Look at what the Elder dropped. Should give a hint
I know the swamp but anything specific I should be doing?
In short though: Explore
Pick up his drops, put the trophy where it belongs and check out that special drop as it'll give you a great hint.
Just find the swamp start exploring it. As you find stuff you'll figure it out
alr thnx
Everytime you defeat a boss you gotta head to the next biome and start gathering resources from there
Can black forge be upgraded to rank 6 currently?
5 is max as of right now
thanks
First thing before entering swamps it would be wise to prepare the best available foods, upgrade equipment and have some extra help, aka ||meads||.
Im done with discord. The planned age verification and constant profiling are a hard no for me. This isn’t a change for protecting the children, it’s a shift toward more surveillance and less privacy, and I’m not going to pretend that’s normal. I’m boycotting it and deleting my account. If you care about where this is going, don’t stay blind and don’t just accept it because it’s convenient.
There are solid alternatives: Stoat (formerly Revolt), Fluxer, Matrix, or good old TeamSpeak. Platforms only push this stuff because users tolerate it. I’m not tolerating it.
I urge the developers and all the players to unite against enshitification and do their part.
- Wrong channel.
- Bye! 👋
Any hints on how to find the ||Ashlands boss||? Is it a part of those ||weird mysterious question mark places|| marked on the map?
Also, I have assembled the ||bell||
You can find vegvisirs for the boss in fortresses
Also some ruined towers/cathedrals can have vegvisirs.
weird - i think I found one already outside of the fortress and it lead me to the next ||mysterious place|| - also, cool to learn a new word
Mysterious locations are different.
mysterious locations aren't the boss, they have the wrong marker shape
I know but I'm almost sure that I found a vegvisir and it lead me to a "?" (and not a boss)
oh ok - my bad then
vegvisirs in putrid holes lead there, find one in a different location for the boss
ah yes, that is where I think I found one
Ashlands boss location has similar marker on map as other boss locations.
So, the next fortress, then - I already cleared 2
is it a known bug where if you're almost max range from accessing a chest it makes a noise and locks your cursor like you opened it but doesn't show chest inventory?
Only if you are a chest organizing enjoyer
This happened to my kitchen on my main world
The iron chest is like 6 meters up so I have to hug the wall to open it
thats kinda whats happening, its on a ledge above my head
I have started using barrels in my kitchens because I don't need to hoard as much of previous-biome food supplies, and they take less space!
Farmables are an exception
Still need a good chunk of them
True, but I find 1 barrel per to be more than sufficient.
No need for an entire BM chest of just carrots, ya know?
I use them quite a lot for specific things.
Like in the kitchen, I have a BM chest dedicated to "current biome food" so I always have spares for death runs and such.
Im a big organizer so iron chest is the way to go
The only time I use BM chest is what I like to call the "drop and continue exploring chest"
That sounds either like you hoard more of each thing than I do, or you store more things in one building than I do.
Interesting, I use BM chest for unspecific things
AKA, I like to throw a lot of different items in them so I can just hold E to stack everything straight from my inventory instead of manually running around to 10 smaller chests
Oh im a big hoarder, dedicated chest for each items
Before I used to dedicated them to biomes but screw it might as well go full organization
Yeah but do you have it all in one storehouse?
1 item per chest kills me
I have it in my cellar currently
I dont like seperating them
Easy to reach
When needed
Yeah, I have individual buildings per workbench, and specified storage for each.
Easy to reach, because I don't have superfluous things near benches that don't use them 🤷♂️
Let me open up valheim and share a screenshot in #building-discussion
Clean. But too much in 1 building for my personal taste.
Its in building discussion
I do plan to rebuild this main base but currently focusing on my mistlands base
Fair and valid.
Moder power + troll mead helps with that a LOT.
Troll fish are like... 90% of all fish that I catch now 😄
I just use a portal to temporarily take them to another spot
wheres the lfg page?
cart army ftw
I would rather drop my entire inventory and carry it all myself 🫠
thx im blind apparently
Using cart in a non-flat terrain is a nightmare
imean if you're building a new base and you have stuff everywhere, i just live out of sort of organized carts like a hobo til the base gets up
so fi you decide "oh my kitchen goes here" you dont have to move 20 chests of crap just pull the carts over
Hmm taking notes
carts man. another great cart thing, let's say your kitchen is like 20 feet from your main storage, ugh, i picked up boar meat damnit i gotta walk over there, NAH! have a cart by main storage and dump any/all kitchen things in there, once in a while drag it over and put it in kitchen storage
I usually go the other way... kitchen storage overflowing... use the cart to get the surplus in the warehouse (unless you live in the mistlands and your base is build on one of those spires with loads of stairs connecting the levels, unpractical there)
The question is are you going big or small? 🤔
big or small what?
I plan to rebuild mine quite big
im always like small/medium
enough room to have the stuff but not wastign time walkign around
i even hated levels because stairs, but then i learned to slant rows of corewood and run up and down them like ramps so i dont have to bunny hop up stairs for 20 secodns
You assume my base is big enough to warrant a cart 😔
Usually the kitchen is a few steps away
I want it to be like a everything in one building
I do often make a dump chest though, and then once in a while just go empty it out to where everything is supposed to go
ideally yeah everything is close. ive had a few where it was like ehh... over there... ima just dump it all in this chest one quick E hold
1 dump pit big enough to fit a hot tub, can go through multiple floors
sort into 7-10 biome dump chests (ashlands can have 2 tbh)
sort biome chests into arrays of mat-specific storage chests
-# all 32-slot, can be bm chests or graves or w/e
GJALL-LEE ive never been happier to be headed home. this world's swamp biome has been exciting but demanding. finally found turnip seeds and MAYBE the continent with bonemass on it i think maybe? i think it HAS TO be because any further south an i hit ashlands. but im sloggin through swamp at night with boat snack food just praying for turnips before i go home so i can make sausages and every spawner wants to spawn 2 stars at me
classic, complain in discord and game rewards me, officially found all 3 traders XD
I did that too. I had a farm for about 10 years. Horses, pigs, geese, ducks, etc... no cows or sheep, though.
has anyone ever used a tamed lox to take out a dvergr ward or crate?
if that works it's kinda shocking to me no one discovered it yet as it would seem natural--other than that one issue Scales raises, about how they're like mountain goats UNTIL the moment you saddle one
the ward has 2000 health so it's only viable against the crate
maybe it wont work against this tower, the ward is all I can reach
It would be far easier to take a Asksvin there. Take eggs, hatch them out near by. Things happen.
sure but the lox fits more naturally in when it would be MOST useful progression wise
to avoid aggro--otherwise there's plenty of equally or more easily done viable options, like the eitr or the trollstav
or just beating them up cuz by then you outclass them (not really avoidign the aggro at all that way tbf)
Agreed. It just may be useful if your going back to increase Sap production for some reason. I have 7 sap locations, so I have no need to do anything like that.
just tried at an excavation site and it was much more effective
although another problem with askvin that occurs to me, is correct me if i'm wrong there's no like "attack" command, and unlike lox they don't just passively damage stuff they run into/over
so I don't think you could get the asksvin to actually damage the dverger or their stuff, without doing the very thing you're trying to avoid--aggroing them
They may auto aggro due to being in different factions, but if not, you would have to smack a dvergr.
I was wondering if they'd be mad on sight--i'm ALMOST positive they would IF it was 'wild' but funnily if tamed as the scenario here contemplates, I dunno if that'd still be true, really unsure how that variable interacts
My guess it they would auto aggro, but I am not certain.
I do know they kill everything in the several biomes I have had them in. But Dvergr are rather unique.
I can confirm they kill everything in plains, meadows and black forest.
I accidentally aggroed the Dvergr when fighting with them against seekers... I installed a mod to fix it so I can accidentally hit them once before they get mad. Is there a console command to make them friendly again now?
Heh, yeah, I accidentally literally punched one once. Some weird things were going on with my key board at the time.
Yeah and I died three times now so I don't have any more good gear to face them...
I guess I'll just enable god mode for this...
They killed me, but my wife slaughtered the whole lot of them. Needless to say, I was very impressed.
I literally just stood there and watched when I got back. Its was a thing of beauty.
I don't see that many mentioning having a wife to play with. Just a few.
if it makes you feel better I have a wife who WON'T play with me
so there's still hope for you, at least
divorce: grounds "refuses to answer Odin's call your honor"
I see that complaint far more often. 😄 😄
I know I am lucky. Its why we have been married for over 35 years.
random semi unrelated question, if you make the dvergr angry, will the lox fight them too?
I never mess around with tames so have no clue
Tamed creatures will fight any aggresive creature towards you with the exception of their own kind
So if you see the enemy's health bar indicted as red and you have a tamed lox nearby, they'll go ham
Yes even a fu- rabbit
so the answer is, if dvergr hp bar = red they will fight them?
Yes
Thats why I said to slap them if the Asksvin don't auto aggro on dvergr. It should make them fight, then. So it would be the same for lox and wolves.
Give em the good ol' woopsy my bad, here play with my dog
So that is one huge advantage with Asksvin, once you finally get them. You can easily take their eggs to where ever you want to have Asksvin. Just too bad we have to wait so long to get such a pet.
Yeah I think Askvin are one of the only three mobs in the game you can take through portals
Chickens come to mind, whats the third one? My brain isn't locking on to a third one.
tick?
Do those go with you through portals? Never had it happen to me.
i know they stick on ya if you exit a dungeon
never tried to go thru with a portal with one on me
i'd imagine it works since exiting a dungeon and a portal are mechanically the same thing
I am having a vague memory of people posting about them going through portals.
Wait I remember from a guy who took a screenshot saying the ticks went with him when he went through the portal
So yeah scales right tick aswell
Sounds like its ticks, then.
Why is the wind... OPPOSITE OF ME
ODIN OH FATHER
WHY MUST YOU FORBID ME THE LUXURY OF TAIL WIND
Because you didn't look at Krilloids weather schedule before planning your sailing. 😄
It is indeed Ticks
I could run across this continent but c h e s t
I have brass chest and going for bronze next
I dont often get all the chest
Or even the brass
Thanks to playing so often with my wife, I do know you can run around an island faster than you can sail around.
The farming outfit is great but not neccesary
If it was decently armored, I'd wear it. But I am not farming essentially naked in the plains or Mistlands.
Which is where I do all my farming, once I establish my plains farm, since all the earlier crops grow in the plains.
LMAO
One chain lighting went all the way down the sealed tower
I heard them all die one after another
Thats powerful, since they are all starred. Did it even kill the big boy and his rider?
A few of them died and a few are left with low hp
If it did decent damage to big boy, thats still rather helpful.
AGAIN HAHA
Don't forget to break all the iron stuff. You get over 30 iron from that tower.
I find zil and thungr easier than gierhaffa honestly
I don't fight them with magic. I go after those eggs while I am on the plains.
So I find the fight to be harder than Gier.
Their attacks are quite telegraphed compared to gier
so far both times ive fought gier they get stuck on pathfinding and cant reach me. is the dungeon static or random?
I believe both brenna's and gier's dungeons are static
well then i will shut up because i must have had some weird mod interaction that causes the dungeons to change (even when i play with mods that dont modify the dungeons)
Mods can have weird interactions with games, even parts they supposedly don't touch. I've experienced that many times over the 15 or so years I've used mods.
