I had no Idea, I am just starting to even look at that stuff. Heck I RARELY even touch meads or pots.
Wielding Dundr while wearing bear armor chest.

Tasty Mead my beloved.
Dual wielding Dundr when?
I will say I love my Axes, And my Bows. Nothing like a Good Snipe Shot when Clearing Fortresses and Villages.
Maybe mini-Dundrs, I'd imagine 2 shotgun like weapons packing a punch for both arms.
Have you run the vomiting sniper build?
Vomiting Sniper build ???
Bloodstone enhances damage based on MISSING health.
So get blood ripper.
Puke.
Eat 3 max HP foods.
Shoot before the first healing tick happens.
Highest single damage weapon instance in the game š
Wonder if that would crack the 2500 HP Mark ???
I don't think so, but if you get the sneak shot off for the crit it is absolutely insane š
Using the Blood Sword upgraded fully with Sneak I have managed 1267.9 HP hit on a bear.
Poor bear š
I think you can one-shot gjalls with the vomit build, but I have not personally tried so cannot confirm.
Would be a decent chunk out of any boss if you get the shot off while the sparkles are still collecting.
But for that you'd probably get more value out of standard blood bow and pumping as many shots in as possible before you healed too much.
Sounds like a plan to try out over the next couple days š Gotta break that 2.5K mark somehow LOL š
Oh gods, now I finally see a usecase for the blood weapons. I've never even considered them becase walking around injured enough for it to have any kind of impact is begging to die from a random half-miss. But for sneaky, well-timed ambush opener... I might actually try this.
Combine with a tasty to delay healing a few more seconds
Ask-set and Yagluth Power might also Work Wonders If timed right :P
people who want to start a world with me?
There might be people in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 š
Man Im this close to uninstalling the game again I cant get anyone interested to play in the lfg channel
game not fun unless playing with someone?
yea
Ive grown incapable of enjoying sandbox games on my own
half the people that join only to leave say there's not enough people or that they cant join the server at any time since i dont want to pay for a dedicated server
paying for a server isnt really worth if player retention is weak on my end
damn
currently paying for both a valheim and a v rising server that aren't even played except for myself and one other friend. This resonates deep š«
and no one in the "group" can host a dedicated server themselves? (it is free if you self-host with the tools we supply you)
Hehe, big bad serpent surfaces to roar at me all fearsomelike, I just run it over with my drakkar and continue on my way without looking back
I run a dedicated server on an ancient office pc I "rescued" from the IT guys' scrap pile. Valheim servers are not particularly demanding, as long as you have a stable connection you can run them on pretty much any PC that will at least accept W10 on them.
I'd recommend swapping old HDD:s for an SSD or save lag could probably get out of hand, other than that any used pc should do the job.
Gods, when I hop on a leviathan for the sole purpose of sinking it - since it's bloody blocking my way - it won't sink until I crushed the very last barnacle. Not even picking up the chitin, what a waste.
So, question, there a tool to view seed based data? want an idea where my traders are
Don't have the link at hand, but google "Valheim map viewer" or suchlike and you should find it
thanks king!
You mean something like https://valheim-map.world/?
Yeah, it's there. š
im trying to scout my map for the traders
If you put in your seed into the site Thorin linked you can see all their possible locations š
How is it I can spend every moment at work thinking about what Iām doing next in Valheimā¦and then on the weekends I get maybe a couple hours before Iām tired? Adulthood is a scam!
How did it go again, "All work and no play makes..."
Makes Homer go crazy
Oh yes, it goes like that. Although in fairness once you get past a certain threshold of adulthood and slip into the "I'm too old for this shit" phase, you actually start to get time and energy over to do shit you want to do, not stuff you have to do. It's a glorious feeling, worth the wait.
Spoilered for potential tw || sometimes I donāt think Iām going to make it to that stage ||
this is AFTER your kids have left for college weāre talking about right
Yes, nest is empty. FREEEDOOOOOM!
omg i cant wait. love my son. also i cant wait.
Exactly! š
Both can be true
Finally! Some time to play some video games!
-passes out
lol, see you cant make the mistake of sitting down
sitting down for a minute is a lie. only sit down on the computer chair
And donāt even think about ājust stretching your back for a secā š“
but ya i get about 1 hour ti play a day during his nap, and even that hour i SHOULD be doing a thousand other things, but mentally/physically i cant do that
Totally understand that, thatās kinda where Iām at right now
Hmm kids are asleep⦠I should probably be doing the dishes⦠but I also want to gameā¦
You just had a new one right? So you have toddler daytime plus no sleeping newborn at night? I donāt think any part of my being could handle that.
When my offspring were really small I'd often need to walk them asleep in one of those thing you carry them on your chest with. Only the second I tried to slide them out of that thing they'd snap awake - so, ever the opportunist, I did more than one all-nighter by the computer with them snoring away on my chest. Boss asks "why are you so damn tired all the time?!? Err....kids, you know!"
When my small ones were babies I sometimes put them laid on my lap, having my legs crossed while on PC. Luckily they didn't get too fussed about it.
my wife wouldāve been so pissed if I did any of that lol
Iām in my fifties. I got plenty of time after work to sit down and fall asleep to the plains music at my base
Will a damaged tree "heal" if it is not felled? Asking because a troll saw fit to smash my beehive tree (don't ask how it got so near, I have no idea..) and disintegrated every single hive but the tree still stands. Wondering if I dare let it stand or if a greydwarf stone toss can finish it off...
Don't think so. I've come back to trees ages later and one-shotted them.
Just plant a new one or put your beehives elsewhere.
Dang it. A well, don't have the patience to wait for a new one to grow so I'm gonna risk it
I like to put all my beehives on the roof of my boar pen. Keeps everything safe inside the base.
Planted a pine tree for the purpose, only less suitable trees around apart from that
I've only had the beehive tree get felled once, and that time it was a freak tree-bounce that should logically have been impossible, but well, it's the tenth world, crazy stuff happens.
Main menu music does that for me, it is so soothing and suggestive at the same time!
Yep! Itās definitely not easy LOL but the time goes by pretty quickly. Toddler takes a two hour nap during the day, and thatās usually my opportunity to have some āme timeā or whatever. I tend to be extremely efficient during the day- cleaning while Iām cooking, scheduling alarms for laundry, picking up the house as I walk through, that kind of stuff.
Because of that, I often have windows to enjoy some peace lol
Bloody hell stone portals are huge, can't fit it in my house
Iām glad I managed this weekend to spend several hours gathering materials. Just need to find a place for my castle. I have 400+ tar waiting for it
Good. They shouldn't exist at all š
Also spent time this weekend helping a lower tiered player deal with aboms while he set up a surtling farm with pathways connecting 6.
Was a good Valheim weekend
I love how stone portals look

is this game good to play with mods
Better to ask that question in #mods-discussion .
Some say it does, some swear to keep using the Vanilla option only.
So eventually the choice to use them is yours.
It can be but vanilla is super fun as well
And I say this while running a modded server
Definitely this lol, some people say they could never play Valheim modded, some say they could never use mods. Itās 1000% up to the player
I'd say do your first run vanilla, but after that you can look at mods yeah
Was just about to say the same thing
Over 1,000 hours no mods. I am tempted to use plant everything but havenāt given in yet
Almost 3,4k hours and still not used any mods. š
I find the game rewarding as is. I love it. Solo worlds and group play; Iāve enjoyed every bit
I will warn you, PlantEverything is a gateway mod š¤£
I know, thatās why I havenāt given in š
āItāll just be nice to add decorative plantsā¦ok maybe PlantEasily tooā¦.ā 37 mods later
I resisted the one where you raise and ride dragons but only barely!!
I enjoy planting vanilla. I even do the farmers insurance jingle. āWe are Vikings! Dum duh dumdum dum dum dum!ā
I donāt know you but you just became my favorite person in here
never used a mod. i could appreciate something like plant everything if i wanted to make berry farms i guess? or if i was super into decorating⦠but my berry gathering overlaps with boar deer thistle etc gathering and ifs more fun to just run around gathering and exploring. if you really really like harvest moon sure go plant everything i guess lul
Yeah I would only use it for decorating. Instead, I look for areas and build there trying to keep the local spawns. My BF build has thistle and blueberries in the yard as well as some natural pine trees
I enjoy some berry/mushroom runs. While at it I can also decimate any tree people, blue neighbors or bjorns I encounter.
I think it would just feel wrong, like itās such a special thing to come across conveniently placed blueberry bushes and building near them or returning to them, if you could just plant massive amounts of blueberries then itās like who cares if you found blueberry bushes
The more convenient anything becomes the more it cheapens it
I wonāt yuck someoneās yum. Have fun with it. We have one person on our current server who uses it and has a berry bush fence.
Itās cute
Aaaw, I worked so hard to get to Ashlands on no-portals. Now I finally reached the stage where I thought I'd unlock portals and pretend stone portals are the only portals. But this monstrosity is to big for my house - and I built a bloody big house. Ah well, just gonna have to build a special house for the portal...
Place them on rune stones and set up a āmoongateā network connecting each island
(Being cheeky do not take personal)
So you lack the conviction of a true no portal run? š
Yeah, been playing around with plant everything, though I only use it for decor- not mass farming or farming tweaks. If there was a way to have access to those build pieces without making them too easily accessible (this is my problem with the Plant Everything mod) then Iād be all for it. But yāall know how I feel about berries
I was sailing around yesterday and found an island with a single, massive mountain peak. And now I must build there
Friend gave me seed with the 2 tallest mountains in the game, and one of them is very flatten-able at the top + has a sunken tower to build off š®
I got this crazy tall mountain (I donāt know if itās the tallest?) with- not a frost cave- but a howling cavern on the very top! Itās so wicked cool!
I found a howling cavern up a smooth slope with Black Forest on the coastline. Itās in a natural cove with plains on either side. Iām thinking mountain fortress and black forest port town
Mountain castles are such a vibe
what if we had running trolls
Love that! I have a mountain that completely surrounds a valley thatās half BF, half plains. Iād love to build there but no access to the sea
Yeah I have to have sea access
There is a burial chamber and troll cave I can incorporate into the build too as mine entrances
you can dig to water level
Not through the surrounding plains! š¤£
If only we could make tunnels
Hell of a canal. It would need mosquito netting
I fish up groupers so I donāt have to worry about skeeters
Blaaaaaah thatās what I keep forgetting. Gotta put my fishing pole in the ship so I remember it!
Playing on a server where we started fresh and playing super chill until deep north. So Iāve taken up fishing and mead making which Iāve never really done. Itās actually fun
They scare me every time they spawn in and pop! outta the waves. Like toast popping outta the toaster
Iāve already caught tetras because they jumped out of the water in the cave
I just run the docks after every storm. Free perch & pike for days!
I have a fishin rock at my BF island. Troll fish for days. Troll heads were piling up. I have like 200 mossy bait now
We have newbs on our server so no elder dead yet (donāt want them nuked by brutes) so have to wait until everyone votes to progress before I can get thunder stones
We turned off raids and only killed moder since it doesnāt affect night spawns
Holy shit I finally saw THOR flying through the lightning
Using a porcupine instead of frostner
My server has dwindled to just the two of us and I donāt want to bring in new folks because we beat the Queen. Nothing like getting ransacked by bugs your first night
Yeah we had new people interested so we started the new seed and set the limitations
Isn't there a better hammer than the 2 handed iron? Smashing is so much fun but it's not very powerful in the plains...
The next is in mistlands
Mistland teir
Weāll probably start a new seed post-1.0
Ah, still waiting on my friends to upgrade so we can tackle yagluth
I got full padded and black metal but they're still messing around lol
hi, just installed the game, does anybody run a 24/7 vanilla server I could play on?
Our server is modded
Yeah Iām the most advanced on our server. Rank 4 padded and plains tier foods
thx
Should see which mods I can ditch with the next run
Well I built a "tavern" at spawn with everything they could ever need so...
Our mods don't affect vanilla gameplay, it's for custom content
The avatar art swap?
Ya
I need a mod where I can just play as Moder
only less crying over slaughtered hatchlings, more swooping across the lands leaving a wake of destruction
If you sail to the edge of your world... do you fall off the edge?
Probably I havenāt gone that far
Yes, you wonāt be able to get your items back
Lore accurate. Awesome
Thatās why you do a pre-corpse run with no gear and a cheap karve. Geronimo!!!
Our spawn has a structure where we put things for newbies to use. Most of them just took an antler and two iron for stonecutter but are doing their own thing. I did put a portal to each vendor tho
Make sure you scream it as your boat goes over for proper effect
My spawn point is an entire village. Farms, shops, tavern, docks, two storehouses, simple housingā¦. And then almost everyone stopped playing
Our guy who hosts the server is super busy so never finished that build for new players
My port town to the east of spawn gets lots of people using my kitchen and smelters
Aww.
This tavern has rooms for guests and everything. And doggies to pet
Yeah we had someone tame dogs before we even left starter island. So lots of good bois wandering around
Yeah we don't play everyday. It's been months and we finally got to the plains. We built another village right at the corner of 3 biomes
That's where the farm and livestock are
Our first server we did we all built huge bases in a meadow near each other. So much lag š
This time we spread out
We rolled a seed with a massive starter island
We used to love the "settlement/village" approach, but yeah, it's a cpu melter
Even Makes a rtx cry...
My starter island has all 3 traders and, I think, every boss up to Moder
Had to use a render mod, i wanted to see the whole horizon, it looks so much better. and turn down shaders to run above 60fps
Unity engine be like...
last time around, there was 5 of us, then a 6th pal showed up and dug out a whole basement for their house....went from like 45 fps to like 11 lol.
But it's all static building materials... why does it lag so bad
It's not like 20 windmills...
it increases the number of local 'instances'
Thatās been a recurring point of contention between me & bf. āDonāt make the village too bigā ⦠āok you can expend the walls I guess but keep the terraforming to a minimum.ā ⦠āwhat do you mean you made all the surrounding ground one level??ā
The render mod and some performance tweaks helped a lot with this btw.
I hate feeling like a naggy wench but my potato laptop canāt handle it
I just priced out a laptop with a rtx 5090... it's 4 grand
I can get a rtx 5080 for my desktop for only 1k
I bought a laptop in 2021 because of the hardware crunch then, but that was 1250, not 4 G's....jfc
Village is fine if everyone makes a basic house and shared crafting areas. But everyone wants a huge house with all the crafting features etc
Upgrade to mango laptop š
I have a gaming pc I just need to set it up but then to set it up āproperlyā somehow leads down a rabbithole of installing floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in the front room
Ten years ago āletās set up the computers in the libraryā. We donāt have a library. 6 months later last paint applied and monitor mounts installed
Nice!
Just like Valheim, oak was too expensive so had to build it out of corewood, I mean pine
I don't particularly enjoy spending time running around Ashlands, so yeah I want it to be over as soon as possible, then I can continue exploring the world in peace (without portals...) until it's time to sail North
Last time I did Ashlands I just used it to gather mats. I could never have a real ālivableā base there the biome is too crazy for me
For me that is mostly a matter of "they should never have added the spires, or they should be much fewer so that sailing in and out isn't an annoying fustercluck experience."
Remove half the spires, crank water temp up by like 3x-4x so you can't straight sail in other boats.
I've also been playing with the idea to use the stone circles around meadows, only I haven't marked these on the map so it would mean some re-exploration š
I am only aware of the "Start server" and "Community server" option
Yeah I thought about that too. Would be perfect
both of which are unable to run a world 24/7 from my experience
There's dedicated server files you download from Steam under the "tools" category.
I did not know that. Wish I had known years ago. š
I've never seen a tools category on steam
ive only ever seen some games like Zomboid have a seperate launcher for a dedicated server
It's in the menu to the left, in the library. Defaults to games, if you toggle "Tools" you'll see lots of various server files for all sorts of games.
You don't even have to own the game on Steam as far as I know, so a console player can run a server on their pc and play on their console.
and how do i add my mods to this server
also this still requires it to be turned on on my computer for the server to be online
so it cant be 24/7
I'd recommend r2modman
#mods-discussion will tell you more
but yeah you need your computer to be on
People turn off their computers?
I use r2modman i just never found out how to add mods to any dedicated server
So I can either pay 20 dollars a month for a server or spike my electricity bill
correct, that's what the 20 dollars is paying for
I cant afford to spend money on either
so i'll have to stick with the player hosted option
Your looking at around $9/month for 24/7 computer usage. Depending on where you live. In certain parts of the US you can triple that cost.
Server doesnāt have to be a powerful machine either. Can run it on a potato if you have one running windows 10
Tho an SSD drive makes a difference
again if I were to host 24/7 i may as well pay for a hosting service than pay even more for the electric bill
If your living some where in the US like NYC or San Diego, your still looking at about $27/month in electricity.
I live in Croatia
I have no idea what Croatian costs are. I'd have to google that.
I just know in the US average cost is a little less than $.20/KW hour, and a "average" computer uses about 36.6 KW hours per month, ran 24/7.
I have a server x99 mobo with 2 xeon 2680v4 cpus, its around 200w/h which is about 20/mo @ .15 per kwh
I presume you mean KW, not just watts. Otherwise, thats far cheaper than 20/month.
An idling PC consumes barely any electricity at all, a pc running one single Valheim server instance is pretty much idling, except possibly when entirely full. I don't shut down my pc:s other than when I go on vacation or something, shutting down/restarting wears more on the components than letting them run 24/7. Haven't had any sort of compontent failure since I started doing this. My former gaming pc - now guestroom gaming rig - has been running day and night since 2014 and it's still going strong š
I think thats right, 200 * 24 * 30 / 1000 * .15
Depending on where you live, you may be looking at $9/month/computer you leave on 24/7.
Thats based upon "average usage", so it could be lower.
It's not as much here, but I'd consider it worth it anyway. A mb failure because of a botched boot is more costly
True. Plus RAM has gone astronomical in the last several months.
Dare I even look? I was thinking of upgrading mb/cpu to be able to install W11, but I assume that would mean swapping to a later generation RAM
Even DDR 4 is around $200 for 32 Gbytes.
Price of RAM hits like a deathsquito to someone in trollhide
DDR 5 for 64 Gbytes is around $800.
It is due to the AI market eating up RAM products.
Yeah when gpu prices went nuts it was crypto farms
yeah im pissed, Micron discontinued their crucial brand, ,said will no longer make retail ram period, only ai ram
Gods below
Yeah, I got shocked too., I bought a new PC with 32 Gbytes of RAM, so I looked into upgrading to 64, saw the current pricing and decided I am doing just fine with what I have.
Its not like I do anything where I need more any ways.
Valheim certainly doesn't need more.
We got new systems last year and sprung for the 64. So glad we did
thankfully I bought the server and new pc parts a year or two ago
Just 5 months ago it was far less.
I think I have like 32 gb of DDR4 lying around I never installed, because I just don't need them. I should probably sell it š
Thats currently around $200.
same, I have 4 ddr4 3200 16gb sticks
I think only my laptop is DDR 4. I'd have to check. Regardless, still fine for what I do on my computers.
I want to leave work and work on my base.
I finished turning a draugr village into my new base yesterday. All those buildings probably make this the largest base I have ever had.
Nice
Yeah, it still had 6 buildings and a tower.
Right on the coast too, which is why I used it.
Large draugr villages are neat
I like the design of their mead hall
Same. The throne was not intact, but I can make it now, so no big loss.
I did a playthrough where I limited myself to only building where previous buildings were
Draugr villages were so nice
Thatās a fun challenge
I've been meaning to upscale that meadhall and see if it can be made into a complete base if just a little bigger
My favorite pre-existing structure is the Black Forest castle with the porch (usually has a brute in it and bees if youāre lucky)
yea ive been playing for years but never have used mods so im wondering if the mods are good for this game
And a troll behind it
Aye, when I find one of those mostly intact I always claim them, because they are so rare
Some are, some arenāt. Some improve basic quality of life and some completely change the game
These buildings are actually smaller than what I build for my usual home, but I just divided up the purpose of them. So one is my craft hall, another is my storage warehouse, another is my sleeping hall, etc... Typically that all fits in my home.
I always mark those, just in case I ever decide to go back and restore them. I never do, but the desire is there.
The trolls are the main reason I donāt. Much as I would love some riverside forest village!
Almost felt bad now, kicked a greyling into the path of a deathsquito while I pulled out my weapon
Trolls rarely spawn close enough to worry about them, especially if you have fully upgraded work benches in them.
Plus I do add fortified walls for events, when I do use them.
I much prefer walls getting hit, than my buildings.
lol I love kicking greylings around, if its post parry you can really kick them far
They are so irritating, especially in early game, and they come around and ruin your sneaking up on a deer.
I just did a sealed tower this morning, got a decent amount of iron and iron bars out of it.
Over 50, in total.
There is one along the way down to Ashlands, I might as well raid it on my way there
Too late for the eggs to do you any good, but plenty of black metal and iron. Usually 10 or so chains in the loot chests.
But... When I sailed past it last week most if not all the external stairs and whatnot were on fire. If I am to ascend that tower I need to bring lots of wood...
Two stacks should be plenty.
How in the world did that happen?
Fire hazards on
He has that fire hazard option turned on.
Lots of shamans inside, I suppose some seekers or whatever got inside and stirred them up
Didnāt realize that tower was sealed with petroleum products š„
Just shaman and lots of wood.
I come out of that tower with over a stack of wood.
He will come out with coal. š
Hehe now I kicked a deer towards another deathsquito. A new sport!
I use deer when I want to go into the plains in my bear armor.
I let them show me what has spawned.
Oh, saw something hilarious yesterday. A deer swimming, with a draugr in the water underneath, chasing it.
Haha yeah deer kan end up in strange places when chased by stuff
I once sailed by a deer with a very angry lox swimming after it
Pretty far from the nearest plains too
It was in a rocky area between BF and swamp. So I just stood on one of the rocks, and watched for a bit.
I've seen that too!
I didn't even see a biome deer are in near by either.
I have a random rock in the middle of the ocean with a single deer spawned on it. āLone Deer Islandā has become a landmark
I've had those too. Just they are usually at least some what close to an island. I don't recall seeing one that isolated.
My seed has the shallowest dang oceans, itās ridiculous. Not another landmass in sight and suddenly Iām scraping a sandbar.
Almost did that last night. The storm made it visible before we ran into it.
I ran solidly aground with my long ship in the middle of an ocean a while back, no land in sight - but I managed to place a workbench on the rock once I nudged the ship off, so I have marked the place to build a very lonely lighthouse eventually
I once ran into a rather large rock. Eventually I realized it was so big looking because it was the top of a plains pillar. No idea why it even spawned in water that deep, but it was identified as a plains area.
I'm just annoyed the bonfire renders so late. I always see trees on the shore long before my light house - and the tower itself long before the light. At night. That's just wrong..
I've built keeps on top of those pillars, so I was tempted to have one in the middle of the ocean, but didn't do it.
Cool find though, that has to be pretty rare
I have not seen one since. Its been at least 3 years and couple of thousand hours ago.
I THINK I know which world its on, and I still have that save.
Bah who am I kidding, I'll put the damn stone portal by the smelters...
hey guys join the trolls cave vc i started a server its called server1 and the password is qwerty
Those are so huge, after I built the first one I just went back to using normal portals, and set the world setting to allow metal through them.
#1024264966712340510 Is the place for that
well it isnt fully a server i have to be in the world for it to run
...and lfg
Crafting experience - does doing the shift+craft give 5x the exp too?
I believe its been said that it does.
There is an exception or two, but I forget what those were.
Besides my minor criticisms with building. This game is incredible.
Even so, the building has improved a lot over the last few years.
Am wondering about a idea so want to say it here first to ask, what if wards super duper slowly repaired stuff in there radius? I worry that could pressure players into placing them everywhere, but I mean super slow, like 25% per in game day, so 4 ingame days total for a object to fully regenerate/repair. Mainly at the speed where attacks aren't really affected, but minor things from like collisions or past non breaking attacks do get repaired.
I like building Blackforest bases on islands. Easier to troll proof and still give calm Black Forest vibes
this is my biggest gripe,, wards are pointless, I use the wardislove mod personally
Wards are only useful on group servers where you don't know everyone.
but even then they can be destroyed
Well also for a kind of alarm if damage is being taken somewhere I noticed.
Still, they only do you any good when your on the server.
So do you think my suggestion is a good idea?
I use them as deco
Yeah, like some idiot player trying to break in and rob you.
One very simple use of them that would make them worth their mats is if they would interact with ballistae so they won't shoot at the owner of the ward
Solves 2 issues with one change? Utility in Pve, and trying to search every single piece to repair damage which can be pretty annoying, especially if it might be inside or hidden by others.
Because - locking a ballista to one specific target makes it mostly useless, and having it kill yourself makes it...kinda awkward to use.
Yeah, having to key 3 different ones to 3 different types of enemies is irritating.
Position ballista so you have a slim corridor to run in. Better hope you are on target
Sounds like a decent use for an otherwise purely decorative thing
I think its a worthy suggestion to make.
Thanks am typing it
lure lox vs bear for great entertainment
Wards repair would be super useful. Or maybe even WARDING an area to keep mobs out
wardislove can do that, separate option to pussh out players or monsters
One suggestion I saw way back was that it would reinforce building pieces withing its range, so walls etc would only take like half damage from mobs or something like that
If I ever start modding maybe š¤
It already reacts when mobs hit stuff, so I think it could be done
That's what I thought it did until someone said nope, that's not what it does
They are expensive spawn blockers really
nothing beats just digging a ditch with a pickaxe
I would like to have Haldors wards. To actually keep stuff out of an area.
I have only made one, ever. After learning how they function I refuse out of principle, even though I think they are cool looking
It's been suggested before, and other games have utilized a similar system, one that comes to mind is SCUM. I don't see it as a necessary change, but definitely could be convenient.
Some areas look horrible with moats
in our group server we had to just turn off raids because other people are stupid and just afk in the tavern...
Last server I played on with raids more players died falling into my moats than mobs
Night time running and plop in they go with a bunch of angry mobs
Terrain walls/moats are so unnecessary, just stone walls will do the trick, even against Ashlands mobs.
you know, you can spawn tar into your moats?
They aren't meant to look pretty. They keep what does look pretty, stay pretty.
Just build them away from main buildings and defend/repair them
And lead raids away to fight them
Tho spawn blocking an area helps with raids
I have tended to end up needing moats or terrain walls personally, stuff tends to like deciding a stone wall is their sworn enemy sometimes in my save.
lox just eat stone wall for breakfast
Spawn blocking?
Yeah I build a ring of watchtowers to prevent spawns for about 20m beyond my walls. š¤
Not fun when "stuff" equals a big troll with a log, was painful.
Added a moat to stop that after other attempts failed.
Yes
It actually resulted in raids spawning on the massive pathway leading up to my gates, so raids feel ultra realistic.
When I build defensive walls, I usually raise a low earth wall and dig a shallow moat, making the earth barrier just deep enough so walking mobs can't walk over it. Then I cover it all in a stone wall 2 or 3 rows thick, with battlements. Then I sow grass in the moat and the whole thing looks pretty decent, and mobs can't get by it. They will smash parts of the wall, but that can be repaired.
Nice. Ballistas and a secret entrance for yourself š
Yes exterior walls I do this
I wasn't terribly clear, that was meant to be asking what that meant lol
Oh some building items block spawn points in their radius
Workbenches, torches etc
If you overlap coverage, nothing can spawn there
Campfires and torches donāt have to be burning and they will block spawns
That's why nothing spawns in your house š
You still have to keep an eye on those areas. Like if any creature can get to your spawn blocker item, they will, and destroy it.
I always kinda assumed that it was just "stuff won't spawn on built structures"
Torches I think are 20m radius
This is why I'll make watchtowers, the workbenches are high above and they'll just walk by them.
I bury benches and put a wood tile or stone over them sometimes
Especially if Iām making a āgraveyardā
Yeah, hiding them is enough for them to not get wrecked
I mean for all situations. Not just fortified bases.
Also can stick wood over torches and mobs tend to leave them alone
Heck, even my new base, a work bench keeps getting destroyed, and its inside my walls. So I am still trying to see what is getting in, and how, so I can stop it.
I make paths through swamps that way
Oh I'm just describing a situation where I don't have to keep an eye on those areas.
The watchtowers are outside of my base in the fields, and they're left totally alone.
And I imagine they are nice decorative base parts
Yeah they look quite nice, I can shoot from them, and I can repair anything in the area.
I have started making armor stands and filling them with troll hide gear to pretend I have soldiers on battlements. And to use up the ton of trollhide I have
Itās the loneliness of Valheim. At least I havenāt named them Wilson
I would love npc generators
There is a friend I play with every once in a great while. He likes to build towns. So we use the armor stands to create "people" to stand behind various service counters, etc...
I believe there are commands to spawn enemies that will not attack, so you can encase them in an area, and they won't aggro anything. Not to sure how to do that myself.
Imagine if we could have āghostā inhabitants. Like make a big enough forge and have spooky NPCs pretending to work bellows etc
Does the clothes we buy from Hildir go on those stands?
⦠Iāve never tried. Huh
Yeah, just occurred to me too.
I'll have to try them out next time I play.
My Valheim: imma log on and gather some silver. 2 hours later whew that was some fun plains exploration!
I've seen youtube videos of that. Someone captured a skeleton and made it act as bartender. When they can't get out they become passive
I don't usually make people when I play, even solo, but I might start to now.
You have betrayed me on the popularity of my suggestion lol.
I haven't been following the context here, which is probably why that statement looks odd
Oops I built a new house
I've tried that. Found it to be much more hassle than its worth. I think they used dev commands to even "trap" them.
Using armor stands and armor sets, and now maybe Hildir sets.
Draugr melee wonāt attack half walls. So as long as you donāt get close to them can trap them
I'd spawn in dvergr, but there's always a risk there's a bat raid and they blow half the house apart
Don't spawn in mages, just rogues.
They fit in with most players any how. All rogues.
Fair enough. But it's funnier if there's different guys
The ashlands rogue are pretty strong
Can they ever spawn with stars?
Lantern mages are the least destructive of the mages.
You mean with dev commands? I am sure they can.
Oooh! Yeah, great one!
I like the wisps that lantern mages spawn
They can naturally spawn with stars.
Yeah, I thought everyone knows that, so thought they were talking dev commands.
2 star ashlands rogue on vhard would go hard
like 8x as strong as a regular rogue on normal
If you can summon that version in, using dev comands, they would be my wall guards. š
In my standard vanilla games.
Iām way behind on the convo but they do. I have them on display in my tailor shop
Hi, is anyone need help? Wanna play with someone
dvergr rogue are they passive if i dont attack them or?
They are your allies (but won't hesitate to turn on you if you attack them)
what about the dvergr chests u can steal from them (loot) then they will attack or?
What would you do if a random stranger came into your house and took your stuff then kept wandering around and looking at you while holding your stuff?
wtf is that question?
some games ur allowed to take stuff from chests without they do something and now im asking bc its my first time in mistland
Take something and see what happens.
Knowing everything ahead of time ruins games š¤·āāļø
It is a question that answers your question
lol
I'd have a bucket on my head so I wouldn't have seen anything
the bird tells you all you need to know
why doesnt anybody listen to the bird š¢
i have disabled the bird bc its annoying š
....
The bird is the word
i have been pretty quiet
I am fine if people choose to disable the bird.
They should just be banned from asking any questions whatsoever about gameplay if they make said choice.
Thou hast spoken quite a bit in the past few days tbh š
then go report me to valheim's discord š toxic people these days....
Nothing you've said is reportable š¤
he's jokin don't worry~
lol
Well...if advice is annoying, then take it all the way and go by the F.O.F.O strategy... Anyway, as it turns out the bird actually has some sound advice on most aspects of the game.
oh so now WE get to be your bird?
i didnt say that?
hey don't say that like it's a bad thing :> kinda what this place is for
KRAWWW!
SHH

-# Not entirely. In a perfect world, forums are run by the game company directly, you have to use your actual game login to have access (cutting down on alts, and tying your in-game actions to your on-forum opinions/actions), and game stats are also tracked. Meaning if you disable the bird in-game, the forum side knows you selected that option and automatically deletes any mechanics-related questions. š š
Haha imagine the raging over such a feature, beautiful. Reddit would burn
that would be intense if your game stats were visible in discord for all to see. then someone would be like āi killed my first bear!ā(4,378 hours played) š
ngl if my bird was like this i would disable it too
š š
imean the bird is pretty annoying sometimes but i love lore and junk
I wouldn't have stats be public in that capacity.
Moreso just visible dev-side.
So you can see things like "OMG ASHLANDS" and the player has 2 hours on their account -- can immediately disregard the feedback.
today i came across the first crypt while mid-fight with my first bear still wearing leather on hard with permadeath hes like SKRAWWW A DUNGEON! (bear dives past me) SKRAWW hey look at this hole, talk to me! (bear just misses a bite)
thats a slippery slope because you shouldnāt go the opposite way either, people can have a bajillion hours and not have a dang clue what theyāre doing (see league of legends silver league)
That happened to me in mistlands. Find my first skull SKRAAAAW while I'm doing my damndest not to get bled dry by the fudging ticks
What if I have no interest in going to opposing way? Sometimes things are just flat land š
or a uhm⦠god i havent talen math class in so long..
asymptote!
Aye.
well but a brand new playerās experience is also valid in ways⦠not all ways. not ways when theyāre like āthe combat is too hard. my meadows gear doesnt work against these tall green guys with clubsā
hola
This is why I like the idea of them people reading the feedback having the metrics š
Feedback in context is more useful.
Omg
I kicked a greyling into the path of an angry lox, I think he got sent into orbit around the tenth realm
my new favorite thing is actually using stake walls and using the battleaxe alt attack to knock greydwarves into it. they bounce around like pinballs.
Do you need the workbench to build the stakes? I know some of the walls you don't.
Because that would be funny to see how effectively you could Fortnite your combat š
yeah, you need the right bench to build all the stake walls, sad face, but that doesnāt mean you canāt put a bench down ahead of time
Doesn't ivy/vineberry grow on stakewalls? My only bush (only found ONE seed so far) won't grow. It rooted against the wall in the first stage, but won't spread
you mean palisades? i think so
Bugger
Yeah, tore it down and built a stone wall instead, started growing instantly. T.I.L
obv theres no set date for final update, but is there any like estimates on when it would come out?
was this palisade or stakes?
Nothing with any form of substance, speculation is all over the interwebs, all we know is they said PS5 version in 2026, which means probably 1.0 and hence Deep North at the same time since Sony doesn't do early access.
The regular stakewalls, not a heap of corewood stakes
oh why am i thinking its called palisade im getting my video games crossed
Because it looks like a palisade
so vines dont grow on palisades aka stakewalls aka the wall things that cost 6 regular wood
4 - but yeah!
ugh god im failing so hard. its been a very toddlery day
the corewood pieces mod has a sick palisade wall with built in spikes at the bottom
Back in a day when bear was new thing and I wasn't playing I just called people saying bear trophy drop rate bein horrible just whiners
Now I'm that whiner too
do you mean the trophy? I feel like there are way way too many bears
Pro tip: Just complain about not getting the trophy here and you will get one quite soon xD
THAT'S WHY I'M DOING IT RIGHT NOW XD
-# You have to word it correctly tho, or the magic wont happen
-Be me
-Goes to the blackforest for first time
-Kills bear
-Get trophy
-Man happy
-Gets sneak attacked by troll
-Man still happy
This was actually true lmao
Got snuck up on by a troll
Too busy celebrating that drop
Does anyone know any good tips for mass deconstruction of stuff?
Destroy all pieces connecting it to the ground, then wait š
When stuff is destroyed via lack of support, does it drop its mats? Dunno if I've ever noticed before
Yes
Yep, drops everything
Oh.
They return
Well that simplifies that, appreciated
With some exceptions like traps and spike defenses
They wont return materials
so place it wisely
Unless its naturally generated, those drop less than their player made counterparts
In game structures? Yeah, its 50% if it takes two to make it, and less than 1/3 if it takes more. Like a chest you only get 3 pieces of wood from. 1 from most build pieces, since they cost us 2. Bonfires you only get 1 of each material back.
I had never noticed the rock talking before. Words of wisdom.
Got a weird bug and wondering if anyone else has seen it happen. Oddly enough, a beneficial bug. My cart got busted up by some skeletons and dropped a bag of contents. I cleared the bag and rebuilt the cart, but in the spot it was destroyed, hard wood stick and boards keep spawning. I clear them, then come back a few days later and the ground is littered again.
Never gonna run outta hardwood sticks, that's for sure
hardwood sticks? what even is that? you mean the pickable branches on the ground?
if its the pickable branches that give normal wood, they do normally respawn same as pickable rocks
no, you know ...the dag gum hardwood sticks. Staves I guess? can't recall what they're called. Hardwood Long Stick chopped into the two sticks in carpenter.
shafts!
hardwood shafts - there it is.
that sounds like #mods-issues #mods-discussion nothing from the normal game, they can give all sorts of bugs
Not using mods
there is no carpenter? there is no hardwood shafts in the normal game, no dag gum hardwood sticks
Hardwood isn't a thing š
Nice
I thought that could be the case lol
there is carts, skeletons and the cart drops crates in valheim when destroyed, not bags I shoulda seen it there haha
Ya oddly similar now that I re-read
guys can i ask why the fall damage here is so sensitive
fall 2m and removes 10hp on my character
@plush umbra i mean logically correct, you JUMP full Speed from 2m and See If u get away without a scratch
alright make sense you right you right
i wish the ask skeletons could be summoned as a higher tier blood magic minions thing
and rideable
hi i dont really have friends who own this game soo i was hoping that i could find a good group to join
Look no further than https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 š
thanks <333
Greylings are so damn annoying. I made an earth wall all around the base area yet they find ways to come from the ocean
Yeah, all enemies can swim and will path through any water depth.
Sharp stakes can help with that. But need to repair them occasionally
Except undead. They just walk along the bottom
Swimming is just moving through water š
Why doesnāt Hildir sell pants? Such a weirdo
Buy dress so no need for pants.
Superior ventilation
how many bronze you guys get first? before moving through iron age? like do you guys stock up or just get to iron age for stone cutter and boat and thats when you guys start hording?
AOE is your friend at certain points of the fight. Stock up on high-quality foods/meads, and keep moving
i am in solo
keep the high ground, have single target and crowd control attacks, poison mead,
what's ur loadout look like
Solo is fine, I'm saying a weapon that deals AOE will be your friend*
i always keep a bit of surplus
2-3 copper deposits should be enough š i often get more just because i like to always have some left over just in case
ho yeah
a renforced chest full of it
but yeah, i mined only 2 veins and its been enough, you get other sources of the metals later
and you should be fine
what weapons you use
Prob Mistwalker and Himminafl?
go in clips and memes i just put a clips where we see my invintory (i suck with name)
Second for AOE and First for single Target, Poison/Bile Bombs Work also Wonders
i got that yes i got the demolisher, the mistlands staffs, that big ass golden sword, the Paniramix wapons, the cross bow, etc...
is that good?
yeah, everything but thrust, spirit, chop, and pickaxe is good
partially what i did was just dodge and m1 bm sword her torso on and off, you'll see how it is when you fight her
personally i've never made bombs, they seem expensive, but i wanna try em out
The bile bombs work well for both normal seekers and the brood, +they also help keep Queen on fire. The ooze bombs are weaker but much cheaper, and they will still wipe out the brood and help quite a bit with seekers in single throw š
yeah i am at endgame so getting mats is easy, perhaps i'll get to it today
I am gonna pickaxe the shit out of that mf
She is the queen but i am the queen bender
she's immune š
Pickaxes do also pierce dmg š but you will be there for a LOOOOOONG time
Nobody is immune to me, i am so over prepar i 2 shot seekers
Immune to pickaxe dmg* š
Ha
ember is my 2nd fav staff so far
Alright thanks for the tip
Alright thanks for the tip
looks like it means i have to prepare first before going in blind since its my first run and havent really gone to the 2nd boss yet
You should stop playing 6 hour 40 of elden ring is crazy
lol i just left it on, i'm at work currently
i'm also at like 30h running a valheim server for friends
testing some funni dmg stuff in elden ring
might pay for dedicated tbh
GUH
There is no such thing as āunder preparingā in Valheim
Prepare. Then prepare again for your corpse run
Going naked and without foods or weapons against Fader might be under preparing a little bit
No that is YouTube content
And it is also impossible š
āI punched Fader to death eating nothing but mushrooms!ā challenge
Possible if you use fist weapons š
-# And even without any food at all
Oh, youāve seen that too?
This little.
š¤
I need to start my mountain base soon so I can build a Yule tree while itās active
Also your tailor shop is great
Aw thank you!
so I fought yaggy last night, and there was this reaper looking thing standing on top of a rock a little ways from my fight, watching as i got absolutely wrecked.
#thanksreaperfornothing
Odin watching you fail
at the count last night when I finally beat yaggy, was 24 deaths
But you beat him!
Odin always shows up to either jump scare you or to watch you get bodied
changed back to my crystal battle axe because I figured, why not, can't hurt at this point
Heās especially invested in the season finales
dude watched me lemming train into a cheese grated that was on fire
eitherway. it's time to prep for the mists
First time I saw Odin, I was running from two wraiths in the swamps and thought he was something new to royally screw me
Then I found out heās just a creeper
Oh, did he explode your house? š
Took me a minute. Never played Minecraft
Was all āwhat myth does Odin have explosion powers?ā Figured it had to be something marvel did and then went oh, creeper is a Minecraft thing
Curious how many if yall integrate other buildings into one house
Calling out builders here
Like integrating your house and your dock at the bay
Maybe even integrate the furnace stacks
Iām a fan of several smaller buildings instead of a single giant structure
Depends on the base and its location
@turbid cipher Pretty fortress! I feel like it would fit in better in the Ashlands or maybe mistlands though
#mods-screenshots message
my dock isnāt really āintegratedā but it does serve as the major thoroughfare for the main craft buildings
I tend to put my smelters at my docks. So when I land a boat itās right there
If I build a base at that dock area, my crafting stations are part of that as well
Otherwise I make roads connecting various parts. Kitchen and brewing stations, gardens, living quarters etc
Base defense is usually a wall around the area, a moat, or just spread out with lots of spawn blockers
I favor island bases for the plains, but love a nice mountain chalet or castle with a road to a coastal port
If I find a nice spot in mistlands that happens to be without mist I usually build a house there too
I've been considering some creative base defenses lately to deal with max raid rate
Moats / earth walls / spawn blockers feel like they're very unengaging methods of dealing with the enemy
Lately I play to chill. I turn raids off. Makes building nicer and doesnāt require a ton of defenses, just stuff for night spawns
After losing my first real build to two trolls with logs I was all about trenches and diverting pathing into spikes etc. these days I just relax until I seek out combat
I just run out of my base for the duration of a raid and kill everything š most defenses i build are stake walls.
Yeah that's the typical way to deal with a raid imo
Best thing about Valheim is we all can play how we want š
For me when a raid has 3 enemies that can oneshot me in addition to a bunch of little fellas and I'm on a permadeath run defenses can be surprisingly useful to split them up so I can handle one at a time
Or even take out some of the smaller guys
if rather turn raids off than build ugly terrain walls and also not fight the raids
Yeah that's my view of it too
thats cool youāre attempting to fight them creatively on hardcore though. ive done a bridge with stakes and beehives zigzags along it against BF raid on hard it was pretty funny and not entirely useless
I don't find non-raid enemies to be too threatening
Islands with a bridge are great defense by themselves
Oh really? Iām almost comforted against raid mobs because I know none of them are going to be starred.
I was thinking about a battleaxe defense, itās kind of cheese, so I donāt know if I am going to do it. but basically a series of walls like a maze where I can just hit them through the walls as they go through it.
Raid enemies can be starred tho iirc š¤
oh true some raids. āthey were brosā is 1 and 2 stars and pretty scary
hildr raids yea
Yep š just wanted to say hildir raids
Also if you drink love potion and get ground is shaking i believe
The Hilder ones yeah. Even the mountain one when youāre in Ashlands gear can be rough if three or four 2-star fenring leap on you its surprising damage
I have too much troll leather. I wonāt ever drink love potions
I tend to be very careful about what raids I trigger.
Mostly because I don't want to be stuck with random annoying raids in lategame
If I could go the whole game without killing a bat I would be ecstatic!
They are so annoying
hashtag bat raidā¦
Of course, if I somehow managed that, one would probably fly into a brazier just to spite me.
Hildir has just appeared on me map
I get around that one by going all game without killing bonemass
Though lately I've been considering hopping on another world to kill bonemass
Wishbone isn't just useful for the metals. It also helps finding special items. Like the wooden weapons and the chests in the stone shipwrecks.
I wonder if wishbone will be useful in the Deep North
Actually, if you want to collect all the wooden weapons, you will need to dig up those chests.
Why?
No, you can just break them through the ground and they'll surface like any other object.
I still prefer the wishbone in the mountains though, because there are often cases where Silver is tucked under a large boulder.
In other words, using glitches. š¤¢
More of an exploit, not a glitch.
Which is even worse.
Maybe by your standards, I wouldn't personally do it either, but to each their own.
Luckily we can all do this
Personally I don't care a ton for whether something is a glitch or not, but I'm not a fan of stuff that feels cheesy.
Some glitches in games are just funny
I like my wolf meat delivery system too much to not defeat Bonemass.
I play max raid rate and I don't want constant wolves bogging me down
Especially during like the Moder fight or something
how do you balance playing on hardcore with not liking cheese? I feel like hardcore requires you bow things from where things canāt get or see you or hit things through walls. or maybe thatās just how anyone iāve seen plays it, cheesing bosses from where you cant be hit, bonfires, etc. ive only gone through black forest on hardcore before i was like eh⦠i miss the gameās
combat mechanics
Just put down campfires, a minimum of 3 of them, and you won't have that raid during the fight.
Luckily Ive found haldor on my return journey as well!
It's tough for sure, I did play hard for that reason for a while
But it's doable, though there's a few fights you might have to choose to just not take. Like if I see a starred troll or bear I'm gonna ignore it. At least until I have swamp gear
But by running triple hp foods (which is a lot easier now that stamina is more forgiving) I find I can push thresholds a lot to be able to parry bigger mobs, or to just dodge roll against them but have the safety cushion that I won't get oneshot from missing a dodge
Inciting fights between different mob factions is super fun too, especially with everyone having dobule damage
Also trying to lean into really maximizing stagger potential lately, so even if I can't parry an enemy I can just hit them with a straight up stagger
One mob can tho.
Not until Ashlands, anyways.
Best is debateable
i was very undangered
I personally have several gripes with terrain walls
maybe
i insighted a drauger v fuling war
No, the one Ashlands mob can definitely destroy them.. It takes several to bring it down completely, but they can do it.
ended up with like 4 2star dragur elites vs 4 fuling derserkers and a dzeon fulinh
i guess you can probably parry most non-star mobs, itās BARELY doable to parry a 1 star bear on hard so i guess thats about the same as a non-star bear on hardcore.. but so often the star enemies. what do you max stagger with? atgier, battleaxe, claws?
Battleaxe or claws mostly yeah. Again I'm only just starting to see the full potential of stagger
Atgeir feels cheesy to me
a base = meadows
i never played in ashland yet
then i got an island for a farm in plains
Yeah a bear can be parried just fine with bronze buckler, though failing the parry is a loooot of damage
Also their swipe is pretty weak. I think you could parry a 2star bear swipe on Vhard with 2 hp foods
oh i only parry the swipe, with wood shield even, bite and smash are no thank you
I got more invested in vhard after recent changes. Ratatosk giving godlike movement allows me to use heavy armor, stmaina restoring on dodges and not being used on parries allows me to use 3hp foods more, feasts allow me to get half a stamina food in there if I want
Can summon blobs now and on vhard they do double damage which is cool
In general I do a lot of biome skips though. Like I usually sail around swamp edges to find some turnips before beating elder and moving on to swamp
Yeah with wood shield and meadows food even 1star swipe is a bit out of reach on vhard I think
I tend to kill trolls first for armor and go in burial chambers for some bronze gear before really engaging with bears, unless I have some nice skellies to help
A 2star sword skelly helped me take out a bear on my current run
I'm not gonna pretend like I am a master of vhard tho
I've played hardmode deathless up through mistlands, and vhard I think until... late swamp. and a lot of those runs have resulted in early deaths and resets
But with new changes I'm seeing if I can make it with vhard to mistlands, and then I'm considering changing to hard for ashlands and Deep North
yeah trolls are so braindead, when i see one im like ooo a troll wheres a copper node?
Going blind into DN on permadeath will be gruesome and awesome experience
ya im not embarrassed to play on normal even in ashlands lol
Welp, that is the difficulty it is meant to be played at š
I do feel like root harnesk gets pretty cheesy on high difficulty, but I'm too fond of it to give it up
but then im gonna PLAY ashlands on normal. i smash open the fort gate knock knock come get some! no cheesing everything
yeah early biomes are easy for veterens but i get its a tutorial stage, ashlands is like āok so youāre good at the game by nowā
I've come to appreciate stealth a lot. Being able to do big damage, big stagger, or even just grab the attention of one enemy at a time is quite nice
except people whove just been cheesing all game now things are deadly and they still dont know how to fight
Idk if it's just me, but I find mistlands really easy
I think once you're over the "going into it blind" experience the biome gets a lot less scary
Whereas something like swamp still feels deadly to me quite often
i think it is too, bugs are tough til you can read their attack pattern and know when theyre gonna land, easy to stagger and mop up, death tubas are loud AF to just avoid if u want
They're also not bad to run under and just spear or crossbow to death
I do always take a dip in the water before fighting them though, as I don't use wine but I do use root harnesk
Being wet really does so much better at nullifying fire damage too than wine does
I love swamps. The atmosphere is great
Being shot by a gjall while swimming tickles. #ILoveFinsOfDestiny
THIS
i started out completely vanilla, but opening the game up has made it more fun
that too, their AI gets wonked out if you just stay under/behind them and just spear chuck
Yacko you've gotta stop using bear meat in frost caves
well sure, I COULD have had serpent meat and a serpent stew too, but I was limiting my foods on purpose. if i had 2 serpenty yums i woulda lived. honestly, I hated that seed anyway. isnāt that crazy how the fire explosion from that first cult completely masked the fact that there were two fire jets being blasted in my face? and that was it, I was already half health just from burn ticks before the burn ticks started to fall off
like i didnt hear or see them at all til i was already burning and even then it took like 3 seconds to realize the fire wasnt from the dying cultist
Yeah looked pretty rough
was unlucky, i GUESS from now on im chucking a spear down the shaft to see how many flamethrowers are hiding around the corner
wish i could disable cultist death animations, because itās just a little much if youāre fighting multiple of them
My runs ending tragically is usually more the result of some 2 star archer draugr hiding behind a tree or a corner of a crypt and me not seeing him
It's always the surprise attacks that get ya
you see the one clip of mine that starts with a health potion? lol. i parried one that spawned at a spawner thinking iwas normal, then it staggered me and took 3/4 my hp lol
I did see that
oh well. i just found out guild wars reforged is a thing so good timing to pause valheim XD
Trying to get back into Valheim, any fun challenge runs to recommend?
Only build where building ruins exist
Permadeath run.
Oo I like that. Tho I kinda do this anyway, I like sprucing up the ruins and adding onto them. Especially in the later game with forts and dverger
Yeah, I often use them as a mini base where I keep portals.
It makes finding villages nice because you can have multiple buildings and room for crafting, etc
I just used a Draugr village for the first time ever. Mostly because its the first I have found on a coast line. Been an adjustment using multiple buildings instead of the single huge one I typically build.
Iāve done:
Must build minimum one full base per biome.
Use only certain weapons like only bow, or sword and spear exclusively etc, or pure atgeir only except for when I need to fight flying monsters etc you get the gist.
Done: can only use light armours or only heavy armours, or no armour until I get root armour and such.
Done: Not allowed to build on islands and not allowed to build moat and earth wall, only other defenses like stakes and stone walls etc.
Changed combat to hard or very hard, no map and other world modifier stuff.
Only allowed to use 1 health food out of the 3 food slots the others have to be Stamina or balanced. Also did a 3Stamina foods run with bows only.
Thatās all I can think of for now from the top of my head.
I second permadeath run, it's hella fun
In addition, I really think "No resistance mead" runs add a lot of fun to the game. Having to rely on stuff like root mask for poison resist and fenris set for fire resist, building campfires until you can get frost resist in the mountains, and having to actually be aware of the fire weakness on root harnesk and feather cape
I'm also a fan of no bow no atgeir runs, but that's just because I find those weapons cheesy
When it's ready.
Unknown as of yet
No one knows.
We do know it will not be this year.
No need to leave Thorin out. His answer is actually the most accurate.
Now, see, that response was not polite
Only one acting like one of those seems to be you so far...
I did a no map last playthrough that was a lot of fun. Idk why I just love starting this game fresh, whenever I log back into an old world I just get lost in my bases n don't do much but I wanna play so I gotta start over. Anyone else? š
Why do the people actually being rude act as if they are the one who isn't being rude?
I might try a permadeath but bring a given set that im limited to. Haven't tested out the new trinkets n such or seen a bear so that'll be fun
Maybe projecting is fun? No idea š
I'll never do a perma death. I just try to do a Zero Death, and if I die, I treat the rest of the game as practice for my next attempt.
I often lose motivation on a world and then feel the need to start a new one
But I never put enough effort into my bases to really get lose in them
What I think the saddest part is that with a behaviour like that the only thing you achieve is being reported and smiffe or another moderator having more work to do.
Its like they think they some how win when they start being insulting. Yet they are then the loser.
I'm a hoarder, it's not like I make mega cool bases or anything I try to make things as efficient as possible to just keep processing more stuff... maybe I should do .5 resources
Agreed
Increasing resources drives me nuts. I just have that much more stuff to figure out how to store.
My rule on res is no more than 4 full stacks with some exceptions like wood, coal, ore, etc.
I will say some of the settings give interesting challenges I didn't realize until I played them.
I played one server on the most brutal settings (No map, no portals, hardcore, veryhard, max raids, .5 resources, etc.) and it was interesting how each setting affected things. Like fighting something like a troll was scary and could lose me my gear, but they also give really good armor. But I gotta kill 2 trolls now for just one piece of armor
Or having to take into consideration food and gear durability, so you don't end up short on resources when out adventuring without a portal
This game will have to get to 1.0 before I can make rules like that. Like I had no idea bones would become potentially so important this late in the game. You know how many stacks I put into Obliterators prior to Ashlands?
Most likely just as many as anyone else before Ashlands was released.
No-portals has made me appreciate foods that stack to 20 a whole lot. Wolf skewer, Sausages and Bread took me through most of Mistlands. I was a wee bit too squishy for comfort sometimes, but I made it - and I have huge stores of "better" foods now that I'm going into Ashlands and had to abandon that combo.
Be a vegetarian.
No doubt. Now I have so many stacks laying around my base I use them as walk ways. š
Even better, be a Vegan.
No armor being used as long as it requires animal parts. Or Troll parts.
No potions being allowed to use whatsoever, as honey is made by bees.
No weapons and or upgrades being allowed to be used if they use animal / humanoid parts.
Fair, but for me I'd rather grind it out later then suffer excessive stacks of something. That being said tho bones definitely were one of those "well crap" kinda moments. They did make bones pretty easy to grind out tho.
I think honey can be allowed because it is specifically stated
So no cruelty there.
nah I never use obliterator. I just hoard stuff and let it pile up and overwhelm my base :/
Vegetarian build sounds kinda interesting but yikes that'd be low HP
Also itās required to remove excess honey from hives so they donāt become bound up. Beekeeping is a mutually beneficial arrangement more than keeping livestock against their will
It's purely SSS until Mistlands when you can either keep SSS or switch to mage.
Well, tell that Vegans.
My employer had to adjust labels on a product because there was honey in it, so it wasn't 100% vegan food.
Meaning if you do a Vegan run, no honey can be used, which also means no potions that contain honey.
Having done it, is fun. š
I didn't do armor restriction though, just food.
Just curious, but what about a "I didn't lift a finger" run? Not allowed to kill anything except by tames, traps, coincidental dmg etc?
On top of that, if people can't use animal parts, sailing can't be done for quite some time either.
After all, you do require leather or leather scraps for the first two or three boats.
Vegans have weird rules depending on who you ask.
Just like "no meat" people who still it fish because "it doesn't count"...
It's still meat...
On the plus side, your swimming skill may be one of the first hitting level 100. š
Ehh i dont wanna limit myself that much. Maybe pescatarian run. Fish and chicken eggs are OK but no red meat
What color is fish to you?
Cuts salmon in half because this looks pretty red to me.
The Scales Masochist Run:
- No use of anything animal or humanoid related, not even honey.
I wanna bet that if he does that, he's still able to defeat Fader within a week.
So don't eat Salmon. Eat the rest of the fish. Their white. Ish.
Being a vegan in valheim sounds like you're gonna die to everything lol
-# Unless your name is Scales
Just use the now-free dodgeroll mechanic.
You will want faster-animation weapons like spears and knives though, since you are not staggering things.
You also cant use light armor š²
Cough, atgeir, cough š
My bad I just meant any stray hit will kill you pass meadows lol
Just don't get hit š
lol getting hit š¤
Gods almighty, I managed to fumble a raging lox into my house, before I could kill it it had wrecked half my storage room through the walls, took over an hour to repair everything. Apparently the stumble steps I built at the doors stop all mobs EXCEPT lox...
OK, I'll ask. How did an untamed Lox even get close to your house?
External walls not complete, been busy with other stuff
So it chased a deer into my yard, I was on bad foods so I had to run, because deathsquitos, and it just followed me insided and started rampaging
Everything else has been stopped by the stumble steps by the door (bunch of beams at intervals), but this guy strolled right over. Loxe are a wee bit bigger, none of them have been near the entrance before so I had no idea...
Lox eat stone walls for breakfast. Use a hoe and build a vertical wall
Crap like 1that is why I no longer allow myself to get busy with anything else until my defenses are in place. š
My external walls have earth wall cores, but they're not complete yet
Haven't been an issue before, so I have put it off because they're getting long, more fun to spank queen and enter Ashlands...
Time to set aside some time, because I don't want a repeat of that little incident
Give Valheim a foot, it will take a mile.
Its what I learned in my early hours of playing. So now I leave as little as possible to chance.
Today I learned hahah...
first time playing the vr mod on the forever word with my friends, lowkey one of coolest experiences I had in Valheim so far
petting my Lox Brƻnhilde was absolutely peak
virtual reality headshit shit?
such a precious girl
yeah, pretty polished expereience
wahhoo yeah that sounds fun! Dope dude
would be cool if there was an offically supported VR version
Only reason I want a vision pro. You can use an ultrawide screen when connected to ur macbook. Pretty sweet. But I understand its not totally the same as an oculus where its full emersion
Dammit fulings in plains at night are worse than greydwarves in the forest, there's just a never ending stream of them. I could build a house of black metal...
Especially when that is when you get the starred ones too.
They are much quieter when I get my walls up.
I put my windmill on a fuling tower I cleared out on the plain, a bit from the house to catch the wind - and walking there at night to collect the flour nets between 15-20 black metal every night. And I just can't bring myself to not take it...
I just build my own tower to put them on.
This tower was so conveniently placed that I used it
Almost a month now since i tried to do modded coop for this game
Barely attracted anyone š
Interest has died down a lot, as far as I can tell. It's nothing like it was the first year of release.
Its not even that, most people want vanilla or lightly modded
Along with a 24/7 server
So my odds of attracting people is already low
Did you ask in any of the mods channels?
Makes sense to me, since that is what I would want.
This channel is for discussing vanilla gameplay.
I used the lfg channel
Well that is the right channel if you're looking for players. I expect the playerbase for heavily modded Valheim is pretty small though.
suprisingly enough, most people play vanilla š¤
I cant go back to vanilla atp
How is that "surprising"? š¤

Modding scene is quite big for a game still in early access
our 4 server community has only 1 modded server and 3 vanilla
Yeah, from what I have read very few people use mods.
Vanilla 4 da win!
it is a pretty underrated flavour
I am a few years out of date, but last I read up on it, less than 5% of gamers used mods.
I believe its the solos that the majority are playing mods
but then again, the game has been in early access for years
I mean also gameplay wise, I think the game feels complete and the comming updates are more like expansions
Hello
Has anybody build a base inside a dungeon like the seald towers or queens lair?
You can't build in dungeons normally unless you use commands, and you can't build in the sealed tower at all š
Thats disappointing. I like the view from the top of the tower.
You can build around it and connect building to the top of it, just inside Is off limits š (and maybe directly above it Is also off limits iirc)
It is off limits normally. I have yet to use dev commands for anything other than getting my characters out of locations they have got stuck in.
Or getting screenshots
A sealed tower would be the perfect base
It's easy to defend against almost all raids
The structure is unbreakable
It would be a good base i think
Which is probably why they made it completely off limits. š
reasonable
air born enemys still a hard kill
If you are ok with having an empty space in the middle of your building then you can make a base on top of it š
I had the idea of using the full building
Small ares for each crafting station
Nope, can't do that sadly
If you can literally put it over the top of it, I'd be willing to do that. Be kind of like building on top of the plains pillars, just better.
sadly not
I think with flametal beams is possible to build a round the top
If I can connect them, even the iron beams should work well enough. Its what I used on top of the plains pillars.
That also works but i like the flametal design better
I have yet to use them. I haven't done any nice builds with Ashlands mats.
I did some building with them, it looks modern compared to dark wood
I have used the mats, even the roofing. Just not for nice builds. Just quick, dirty, and defendable.
Aha.
I have build with it but i don't know if it's looking good.
The build channels here can help with inspiration and improving things.
That is true; just a funny realization
Does anyone have a dedicated Xbox server that I can join?
I haven't played in a while, but do y'all know if they increased the abomination spawn rates or am I just unlucky? lol
Just got back to current versions of the game for the first time since mistlands released (decided to break my mods to actually play new content) and... is the bear considered difficult? I mean given I'm playing on Normal, but it seems like an appropriate "pick your battles" enemy. Cheesed the first one with a stack of fire arrows then spent a couple deaths learning its parry patterns and they're a cakewalk now. Trying to listen to youtube at work and content creators were crashing out because of the bear...?
Am I getting it wrong or is the point of the thing to teach you to pay attention and run until you're ready to learn the fights? I like how it seems like the fight's a reward for learning proper parrying.
Maybe I'll change my tune when I get to the Vile heh
Pretty much everything in the game is "difficult until you learn the dodge/block pattern."
So I agree with your assessment.
Ngl I haven't done much dodging at all. The unarmed troll's double-overhand is the only attack I know how to dodge.
Also the bear hands are fun as hell to parry with. Can't wait to get a trinket to actually make use of adrenaline.
theyāre harder than trolls imo in that theyāre more complicated with different attacks, troll attacks are so telegraphed and consistent. i think people who complain about combat difficulty also complain about the bears extra because theyāre pierce resistant and they cant cheese and hide with a bow. but theyāre also easier than trolls when you learn them because you can parry one of their attacks with a wood shield but trolls good luck.
I'll admit the bite attack is a bit of a curveball on the timing heh. I've managed to parry it more often than not, though.
yeah the first claws have crazy parry, later ones fall off with parry but the kick stagger is good
Also I had no idea they added bears to the game when I loaded in and that thing was a hell of a jumpscare.
oh he bit my ass good the first fight i parried his swipe a few times then-OHHHHkayy ow that got me
Giving me Abomination vibes
had to just limp around and regen before going back in
valheim excels in jump scares Xd
Now if they could make the fenrings more worth fighting, heh. One of my favorite enemies design-wise and it's always fun when you forget what day it is as one catches you blindsided, but there's not much reason to seek them out.
their trophy is used for a new trinket now
Oh, I only knew of the bear trinket. Shoulda figured there would be others, heh
I still haven't killed eikthyr; stubbornly trying to get a second bear trophy for the trinket first
Find Haldor.
I'm guessing he sells trophies now or something?
I did troll-mine enough bronze for a karve...
No, he just has a free bear trophy if you break his rug š
HEH. You can do that? I thought his wards would prevent damaging furniture.
Apparently they protect him only on first load. Walk (portal) far enough away and then come back and it is breakable.
It's how many of us make the headpiece for the armor if we have bad drop rng š
Odd. Might stick to sparring with the bears, though. I don't like it when weirdos raid my base and break my furniture, wouldn't wanna do that to him.
Funnily enough the first bear I encountered dropped a trophy (after like three stacks of arrows and a near heart attack)
parry makes quick work of them, should learn
I don't even have a bow at that stage š
I rock spear as my ranged weapon until like... Plains.
First bear. I'm on like... 8-ish now.
parrying?
Wait did they make spears not suck now?
Spears have never sucked?
Which means it was usable š
But if that was your one issue, try them again since the last update was pretty specific to hitboxes.
First bear I cheesed with arrows. Rest have been parry beatdowns.
Nice.
300 arrow cheese
My last run I legit built the Flint Spear and then rocked spears until I could build the Arbalest.
I think I mostly used clubs in the past. I like that there's dedicated hand weapons now.
I just hunted so many lox that they stopped spawning?
No that's not how that works, but maybe you have run into the respawn timer for a relatively large area and it feels like that because of it. Unless you have "spawnproofed" everything, they will come back.
This particular plains biome is pretty small surrounded by black forest and swamp. May just need to leave it for a while. I wound up going to another plains area. Filling a chest of pie for yagluth...
If someone is an experienced player, I genuinely recommend rushing Elder. Like... kill him with flint-level weapons and then use his power to burn through the bronze age.
@edgy warren you will never stop needing iron š
22 bee hives. Standard setting. Exploration pays off.
Thatās too many bees, man
Not really. Not for two players. For one we make a lot of Black Soup. We also make a fair number of meads. Will it be more than we can use? Absolutely. Its the problem I would rather have. š
Counterpoint: infinite coal.
Yay, castle and winter are still here.
True.
My trick for names is to run something cool or stupid through a translator - into Icelandic. Guaranteed viking vibe!
thanks! I just call him Ihatebackpacks
My first character ever I named Ragnared - combination of basic "Ragnar" and "Red" from "Ragnar the Red" song from Skyrim (also my brother's first cat is called Ragnar).
I names my viking Karl
have y'all ever thought about why you can transport metal armor and tools through portals but then you cant transport metal through portals
Because metals have "can't be teleported" tag and equipment don't?
You see its based on the ancient folktale of shutupshutupshutup
But on serious note, just so key materials like metals cannot just be transported easily to your base through portal but forcing you to take the big voyage of sailing them to your base.
I usually use conlang lyrics/words. Decent chance of being unique/not needing a buncha numbers.
...or puns
My old username was Skald so my first character's name was "Skald Inghott."
Theyāre very heavy but if you could teleport them that weight wouldnāt matter so much
I get that; i looked at what comes after mountains and I feel like the mist and ash items could be non tpable
In my experience there has almost always been enough drake nests for eggs in mountain where Moder altar is, so I've usually not bothered picking them in other mountains.
Oh I wasnt venting about them lol sorru
And they also respawn after some time.
None taken, don't worry. š
Im probably gonna put an egg in my base they look cool
Can they be put on a stand
Yes.
Ugh. Still bothers me that half of most copper nodes isn't mineable without terrain clipping. Really oughtta expand that "no attachment point explosion" logic to when no part of a contiguous mass of copper is exposed to air.
At least it's not crypt iron :V
I've only noticed this now
But the mace weapons special attack
you are practically aiming for the... yeah
that's the way it is
Don't worry, valheim creatures does not have "that"
The Denji special. š
It's also fun to punch a bear in the back with its own paws. For me, maybe not the bear...
Hello.
Not sure this is the right place, but how do I go about finding a server to join? Iām on Xbox
Brilliant thank you.
Just wanted to say; I was playing with a friend yesterday, and while sailing we came across 4 leviathans in a goddamn row, neither of us could believe it š
