OP might be a stretch
It’s nice for swords that all biomes (except meadows and ocean) has one though
They are generally great all rounders tho 😄
Sword is the weapon you make if you dont know which you want to use
ok yeah not actually OP but very very consistent
||I use a rake and a sledge||
I asked yesterday if anyone knew if dvergr lanterns had the same performance impact as sconces - as far as light sources go, or if lanterns would be easier on fps due to less particles. Well, now I have swapped all sconces in my base for lanterns and noticed a definitive increase in fps. Not anything huge, but definitely noticeable. Interesting!
Only drawback is the lanterns are pretty dim compared to sconces, parts of the house are pretty darn dark now at night 😄
Tradeoff for not needing fuel I guess
Solution = MOAR LAMPS
Hell yeah! Need to gether some more of the glowier trophies
I've had bad luck with surtlings - in 700 days only ONE trophy
Those dont really glow much tho as far as i remember🤔
No, brenna is stronger. Only have one of those too 😕
Golem trophy is very glowy, but so big it is kinda impractical to place
it’s tough. “be lucky” is the best method. i do search patterns in BF starting near the Elder alter because i know that’s far enough from spawn. i use the fence to point a direction and i go that direction til water/swamp/etc then run a little to the side and do it the other direction. it’s good at night because you can glimpse his fire and other effects easier. worst case you get lots and lots of blueberries
holy shit bless root harnesk lol. accidently engaged 2 deathsquitos
Had three of them swoop in with suspicious coordination the other day, after I got blasted by growths and failed to get a flock of loxes to distract them. Perfect storm of screw-ups. I did not survive...
Has anyone built any of the special Christmas items yet?
immediately upon login of course
did anyone NOT immediately make a tree???
My current playthrough already has one because I haven’t played it since April, I’m ahead of all of you
Maybe I’ll continue some day, I really need to do ashlands properly
Root harnesk actually insane
That shit carries me even in ashlands
i get so tired of old worlds and then i delete them because i dont value them after i start a new game. its weird. i have no like mega perma i have everything world
Me (assuming they were available like 24ish hours ago?)
Haven’t played today
Normally I’m like that but I’ve replayed the early biomes so many times that I’d rather continue from late mountains
I think I stopped because of how bad the route between my base and the nearest mountain was, if I enable portal everything just for this biome maybe I’ll want to continue more
Will the oceans get a forsaken
We dont know but i personally wouldnt bet on it
It'd be cool
All my deaths have been to 5 trolls, 2 draugr elites and 1 bonemass
My first death in my no map run was to a damn tree 🤦♀️
Trees are the most dangerous enemy in the meadows
Nothing like a pre harnesk 2 star archer lurking behind a tree or dungeon corner tho
Theyre the true foresaken
It has been quite a while since i died to a tree xD but it was my first ever death
Mine was to a greyling
i did lose one of my hardcore playthroughs to a tree lol
also once to a gang of like 10 boars
They’re good for peacefully keeping necks away

Wdym necks are just free dogfood (and like one mead)
I love luring swamp creatures into meadow rivers and just hearing necks scream and then perish
THIS is the worst. the 2 star drauger archer flank you dont see. also been sniped by a 1 star skeleton on hardcore mode just as i parry a normal skeleton so it staggers me and the normal skeleton finishes me off as im staggered.
The trick is to kill them because that happen.
ohhhhhh…. i’ve been hugging them!
Now you know
Don’t say that to the neck lover
I tried valheim in vr and when one of those buggers snuck up to me right in my face...
which one is developed, the deep north or the ashlands?
Ashlands is done.
so deep north is the one that i shouldnt go to
correct
kk
I mean, you can go there. there's just not much there...
If you want to keep your world when DN drops, you should not explore at all. Once the chunk is generated, the new content won't load in that zone.
not in this channel.
Odd way to spell "this is a very smart thing that the moderators of this server have implemented."
nah i meant
NO GIFS ALLOWED?
this is blasphemous
Odd way to spell "this is a very smart thing that the moderators of this server have implemented."
so what's the deal with the cultish contrarianism on the subreddit?
It's the interwebs. The sense of anonymity allows people to be their very worst selves.
it's always the same people and they argue completely without sense
plus I keep seeing valheim players use the most insane logic to defend their position, no matter how clearly insane it is
There's a part of me that wants to go look but the rest of me is tackling that part into submission.
....I have somehow found my way back to the stone circle, but in the process have lost my second house 😅
a conservation-of-mass patch would be amazing, refined metal weighing more than ore violates basic physics
maybe a sword wouldnt need hundreds of pounds of metal to make🤔
Dvergr: Keep that wisplight close, you're going to need it
Me: Mate what are you talking about I don't even have a wisplight
Any weird thing you see in this game can be explained by it being a spirit world
I mean it is a spirit world
Its all magic. Which never makes sense.
🤦
so if it's the spirit world where anything can happen, why are the devs so stubborn about basic QoL features?
is the spirit world a tedious menial slog on purpose? why would Odin do this?
Because they may add them some day? That may happen by 1.0, or maybe after, or maybe never, and we will have to use mods.
At the same time, they could fix this by making ore chunks weight 30 pounds instead of 10
you guys are truly fascinating
They use Kilograms, but yeah.
ive had 0 qualms with the vanilla game but i may just have mega rose tinted glasses
i love it too much
really, its in kilograms?
Yes, they use metric.
"we cant even think of change because they could make things worse" is utterly bizarre
lmao, like talking to a wall
make the game obey basic physics
what physics arent workin for ya
I'm just not going to complain untill they are at least at 1.0. Then I would like to know what they are or are not going to do after 1.0. Plenty of people have told them their complaints.
I think weapons should weigh their crafting costs weight
gasp
Including upgrades
but magic!
so the weight of items feels wrong?
Plenty of people have complained about this as well. Myself included. Over 3 years ago.
Man, this guy is salty
no i agree its weird to turn 200kg of metal into a 2kg weapon lol
well I keep seeing weirdos saying weird shit opposed to literally any form of change
there are other ways you could balance carrying too many resources at once probably
in an early access game
Where did I say I was against the proposed change?
im not addressing you directly
imo its not about magic explaining anything away but rather gameplay direction
Probably because your the 3,000th person to complain about this since I did. Over 3 years ago. They still have not changed it, as you have noticed.
You did get salty with me tho
yeah they're psychos lmao
it does feel really nice to get back to base with a large quantity of resources
and then turn a thousand pounds of rescources into checks notes a singular item
maybe we just dont make ores stackable anymore but make em weigh a correct amount
perfect?
or just make the game not a tedious slog
Apparently this is on purpose.
okay, and?
i mean the tedious slog is pretty obviously on purpose
are they just assholes then?
sure yes
Essentially the excess material is what youd use to maintain and repair the stuff you make.
Its a price for not having to spend metals to repair stuff
Especially iron. So... much... iron.
ive heard this logic and it doesnt follow
it's so weird that just changing something without changing something else for the worse is viewed as blasphemy or something
this might just not be the type of gratification game you vibe with
You want tedious try taming a wolf while dumbass greylings constantly make noise
why would I play a game designed to frustrate and infuriate?
because overcoming it feels that much better
The trick is to kill them
but you dont overcome it
i mean you do
no
Then the wolf hears me
eventually
I meant kill the wolf
No I want the wolf
the inventory never increases except a mild weight increase
the inventory feels a little small i agree
another 8 spaces would make it so much more bearable
it has weight and slots
even if its like a biome 5 upgrade
why?
50% increase is "mild", yall
considering it's mandatory, yeah
I do hope they do change the ore/metal weights issue. There is no reason for it to not be realistic. Or at least closer to being realistic. I can only guess its because they make smelting ores so easy, but I have not seen them explain the why of it.
ive beaten ashlands and gotten dyrnwyn on hardcore with the vanilla game
everything you want to do is possible- it just takes time
well yes, and the devs have had literal years
i will not disagree the game is designed to suck time from your life
please explain why changing the weight value on refined metals takes any time at all
but also thats what keeps people playing it
if i can run home with 8 stacks of iron without a cart that massively changes the time of the game
well the game was sold to me as "viking minecraft'
add "but longer"
sounds pretty minecrafty to me
you can increase the resource rate to x3 and its way way faster
you still mostly play it the same it just takes a lot less time
There is nothing wrong with making it so we can get done faster. Especially once its 1.0. No one needs to put 200 hours into a game to finish it.
there are no 11 minute speedruns of this game though ill say that rn lol
One must consider that these time suckers can also be shortened considerably by adopting certain strategies. Its up to the players to actually do it.
for sure
Like campfire spamming bosses 😴
Oms
is that any differnt than bed bombing ender dragon tho
I wasnt disagreeing
I was thinking about building near ore sources, but yeah.
Silver veins dont collapse right
ive adopted the method of building crafting bases at every biome
They can
and its helped a ton
They do.
I watched a video where a guy just had multiple floating veins being confused as to why they weren't collapsing
I just assumed it was intentional to force iron
likely because they were touching each others
You have to break them, after you have them "properly" floating.
O
Just hit them in the middle, and they burst. IF you have everything else dug out properly.
and they arent touching something else
Yeah, thats part of properly.
I mean its less likely to happen since they are thin, but a chunk of rock could be lodged in them and that will be enough to prevent The Break
Yep. When they go into other rocks, I just break them up normally. Its often a waste of time to dig it out all the way like you need to, when those rocks could embed in the vein.
Do speedrun rules let you use 3x resource drop passive enemies etc?
Maybe now, when I used to pay attention to such things, the settings didn't even exist.
Official speedruns will say which rules are allowed.
I've seen many games leader boards allow you to play on the easiest settings so I wondered
Otherwise, do whatever you want.
I mean I could just spawn Fader and command kill it. Bam, 5 seconds speedrun.
Joke
I dont type that quickly
These games arent suitable for speedruns if you ask me. The context is too random. The most you can do is basically know what you are looking for.
I looked it up, casual difficulty no console commands, cant learn your seed, chat commands allowed
The run I found interesting was doing the boss' in reverse order. That was back when Yag was the final boss. Doubt that can be done now a days.
You can swim to ashlands but what then lol
I'd be bald if I tried to do Mistlands without wisps.
Yes
Valheim isn't hard
They just scale it just you die in one hit in new biomes
Its artificial
Wait. So all those times I go into the plains to get berries and needles while in my Black Forest gear I was supposed to die?
if it was so easy that it wasnt a challenge, you wouldnt die. your logic is so back asswards it hurts lol
I also get black metal, but that does me no good until I beat Moder.
youre right, nothing in this world is hard. ppl just fail at stuff on purpose to keep things exciting! how have i not seen this til now???
Life isn't a predictable programmed reality though?
Just built a Blood Magic XP farm with TWIGs. How i wish i knew about these things a few months ago
What hames a game hard for you?
According to him, nothing is hard lmao
If the game wasn’t hard, every single person to ever pick up the game would be able to easily do a permadeath run all the way through, no issues. Ppl like the guy that beat the game not only without dying but also without eating? Nope nothing special about that, it’s not hard 😂
Nothing hard about dying from a small drop because you forgot you weren't wearing the feather cape xD
How does that work? haven't used them yet. Just use the spells on them over and over?
Not at all it's an AFK farm. You need 2 TWIGs, summoned Skellies with swords, and a blob trapped in a box. Basically the idea is to put the blob low enough the skellies can't hit it, put the TWIGs in front and box them in. The skellies will agro the blob but their attacks will only hit the TWIGs.
Ah bait strategy
So can you just like walk away doing stuff around your base gaining xp?
I was originally using a greydwarf spawner but it was extremely slow. And yeah so long as your within whatever range of the skellies. I built a tiny house at the end of the farm with a fire and a roof for a constant rested buff to help. It's been maybe an hour and I'm up tolvl 47 from 23 I think
I imagine you could use even more TWIGs and more skellies too make it even faster
What annoys me with blood magic is that when you use a shield bubble, the exp for it only register when your bubble breaks. The bubbles you cast on your allies or your skellies does not count.
Well... it does raise their blood magic skill
Which is nonsensical, but I dont think there's a real solution to that.
I did see another method where you cast a bubble and break it on a surtling geyser rinse repeat. but i feel like that's slower than this too
I've been stuck in the Ashlands for months so I'm desperate lol Gotta train up those skills
Way to much time has been spent recovering corpses only to bump into a valkyrie and be wrecked
The best way to stay safe in the ashlands is to kill everything.
I really hope the deep north isn't just endless enemy spam.
I don't think it will be thank fuck. More environmental danger i would imagine
Yea from how it seems it doesn't look like it but would be nice if they could eventually I guess revamp the ashlands to shift the challenge to be just as hard but less of a spam approach.
Honestly if they just made it so the charred only spawned from spawners, I could deal with askvin voltures and valkyries
I mentioned before but I really wanted more of the fight in the ashlands to be centered around the spawners, where like if you clear the spawners you can reduce the spam.
I mentioned a idea for a second larger type of spawner that is like a mini boss and ups the spawns in a large radius. Mainly is what makes the ashlands feels like it currently does, but if you get rid of that spawner, it is reduced heavily to where it doesn't feel like spam.
That would be a gift from Thor!
Getting rid of that spawner could also stop attracting dvergr to the area as it is a less of a fighting hotspot I guess. So they look else where, this means you can do something about getting caught in the crossfire due to them spawning at your base.
Or maybe bribe the dvergr with the obscene amount of gold we have so they become mercenary followers or something
Eh that is a much different suggestion if fair. I guess is kind of a separate topic. I just am worried to post my ideas as it feels like when ever I do it gets rapidly downvoted and argued against.
Aaaw I wouldn't let that stop you.
I hope the devs evaluate the suggestions independently of the votes if ok, feels like a lot of the downvotes come from people just not having the issue themselves or not caring as much about it, but I feel like that would be a reason to be neutral not vote against it. I might be biased due to being frustrated though.
even bad ideas have benefits! Some people see ideas and that's the starting point for an improvement or something. Or maybe it's the idea that starts a mod.
Hello look at Nude mods. No real point to them but if you were to suggest making Valheim more X rated it would be downloaded by the community. But that wouldn't stop a modder from doing it lol
problem is that they are a really small team. An idea must be good from the get go to be even considered.
cough cough inventory revamp.
My last inventory slot suggestion got 0 upvotes and 15 downvotes which is why I feel a bit bad and frustrated. Feeling shut down so strongly when trying to give my ideas.
its because you have to give up at some point
Honestly had i never bothered with YouTube reddit or this discord, I could've played without ever thinking about the inventory lol
You have been trying to offer solution for days and days and days. They heard it already
Many people feel that an inventory chance is necessary. If you ask me, I think it would be nice but I, in no way or method, think that the current inventory system is bad
Well because I disagree with giving up being a good option, my stance is oh what problems are had? lets fix those and try again. One inventory slot suggestion failing doesn't mean to shut down and avoid posting others that try proposing different ways to solve it.
And you have to understand that the problem you have isnt what they have.
I do not think the current inventory system is a problem.
Well in regards to that I'm pretty sure they have something planned already anyway. i recall seeing a dev respond to a tweet or something
Would it be nice? Yeah probably, but I agree that if nothing ever changed Id be fine. I'd rather see crossbows remain loaded when lowered
Besides, the votes you get for a suggestion hardly matters for the devs to consider it (or not).
Oh I thought before you were implying they only would consider it if it has good votes.
I never said nor implied that.
Sorry I had misunderstood
What I said is that people here do not agree with the solutions you bring.
I just feel a bit scared to post my ideas now, feels like the same thing will happen regardless of what I say. Well plus one of the downvotes was before they even read the suggestion. I asked and it was confirmed that they pretty much skimmed it for a basic idea and downvoted.
Feels like people don't want to hear me out or anything I guess. Just feel bad mainly.
I mean, I rarely come to downvote stuff. However when I see you post something and I see the word "inventory", I dont even bother reading the rest. I know what it's about.
As Vinny already said, the only opinions you need to worry about are the Devs. Votes probably won't change their opinions.
You could have the best idea ever for the inventory system. The devs do not think inventory needs to be fixed.
I mean that is fair, just actively downvoting instead of ignoring feels harsh especially if not having read it fully.
How many posts have you made about the inventory system so far?
Well in that channel only one.
how many suggestions have you made about it
Well I have discussed it here before, that was it I think.
because I feel like you've been talking about it for a month
Inventory has been an "issue" for years. I wouldn't be surprised if hundreds of suggestions have been made over the years on how to fix it.
xD
I haven't even been here that long, I still have the new badge.
Yeah, maybe its a week or something, but it feels like you've been talking about it a whole lot.
Have you finished the game yet?
_> glances towards Fader in the far east
I talk about general suggestions a lot, but don't recall to much specifically on the inventory, I vent more about the ashlands lol. Yes I have I defeated the ashlands boss before. Not in this save though.
At least you did that. Lots of new folks come here and ask to change the game when they dont really know anything about it.
How similar is LotR Return to Moria to Valheim?
I also got annoyed about the holiday items giving actual buffs.
Lox carts too was my first suggestion I think. Me want a cart upgrade lol, boats have plenty.
I'm just saying, there are a hand ful of issues I have seen repeatedly complained about over the years. I have zero doubts the devs are well aware of all of them. The question remains is, do they agree its something that needs to be addressed? Or are they happy with how they have it?
I mean I would love a giga size boat with a interior area lol, but that is fantasy.
It’s a “survival” game
That's about it then? lol also I see you too are a man of culture, greetings Barer of the Silver Oakleaf
I'm not sure, but my wife and I bought it, and we will play it once we get tired of Valheim once again.
I think I have been tempted before but not normally anything major, I don't recall any specific case I did that off the top of my head. Especially when a common issue I dislike is not being able to solve a annoying problem through progression, kind of hard to define that if you haven't progressed.
Also, there are tons of inventory mods that fix anything people have problems with so there's not a reason to fix it

I personally don't count mods as a solution as it breaks the point of game development if modders can do it. Just is my morals.
Personally, the biggest thing id change for this game is the cooking system.
Yeah, just most people don't like/trust/whatever mods, so never use them. We mod users are still very much a minority.
Curious how? I have had some annoyances with it.
Find ways to "update" older ingredients with newer stuff so that you can find a use for it.
Biggest thing I’d change is the bronze recipe…
The best example is once you unlock flour for pie technology, you can put anything in pie. Raspberry pie, bear pie, carrot pie.
Blueberry pie...mmmmmm
The carrot pie wouldnt be as good as, say, a lox pie, but its better than just a carrot.
Mhmm
Essentially add a extra step at new tiers to bring older foods up to it?
What about making sausage from human entrails, or do we not speak of that lol
Pretty much the same could be said about stew. So once we have Deer Stew....
Yeah, stewify anything stewable
At some point, you just get bloated
honeyfy anything honeyable
I really want the idea of some kind of hive upgrade. Bee hives feel super simple and feel they could be much more interesting.
well the idea is to update older ingredients. Something I feel like using the best food around is a waste, but id love to use bear jerky because I get so much of it that I never use because its just "bad" food
that's what I do with feasts
I also have a friend who keeps bees makes me learn a lot and really wanting more with them in the game.
Sokka is that you
also generate zerg creep or something
Mine was more of being able to invest more into your hives to essentially upgrade them, to get more honey and maybe a different type of rarer honey. Like a hive produces 1 normal honey every 20 minutes, but every hour or so produces 1 special honey.
I mean have you seen what those hives look like?
While I like that idea, I already get way more honey than I can use. To the point where I use it to make coal in the Obliterator.
I put so much stuff in the obliterator now that I put it at agreydwarf spawner lol
Yea the utility would also need more uses for me with that too.
I think I have so many hives in my current solo game, I have 7 or 8 Queens I don't even use.
eat the queens
Heh.
Lol no, what I want though would probably be a whole revamp of the bees and hives. As in it they would also be breedable which wouldn't work well in the current system quickly giving you so much you don't need.
One thing I know the devs struggle against, is making Valheim even more complex.
Like they didn't even want to give us more build pieces, initially.
SWAMP TIME
They have obviously caved, massively, on that.
I mean the build system is decently complex, but outside of that a lot of the games base mechanics feel pretty simplistic.
I might be forgetting something though
They were mostly concerned about making all the menus massively complex.
That appears to not be such a concern anymore.
I feel the execution is the main factor, don't overwhelm the player all at once, gradually build it up.
That is how its going, so...
I know, I just mean in a general sense.
worse? like more complex? am confused
Worse in that I already struggle to find crap in the menus. Part of that is my being old, poor vision, etc...
Oh am curious where are you struggling?
Mostly in the craft table menus.
Could a search function fix that?
It would help, when I can remember the proper names/words for a given piece of gear.
Maybe a tag system too with the search? so like you can search "armor" and get all the armor types?
That would make it easier.
Especially now, with weapons getting magic names, like that storm mace, etc....
Might be a nice QoL update in the future.
I am sure I will eventually find a mod, if nothing is done by the Devs.
Mod creators often help make games more accessible to people with various issues, such as vision, light sensitivity, and so on.
Fair but still would be nice if the base game had some incorporated that didn't hurt the experience for players without those issues too.
That would be ideal.
They just rarely do, since we are all minorities. So not worth it to their bottom line.
I guess, but if cushioned enough it should be fine to dedicate some to that. Maybe work on it and something else at the same times to get new players. So there is something for both.
They seem to have done some things to help players like me, with darkness issues. IE the Dverger Circlet, wisps, probably another thing or two that helps me, and people like me to see things in game better. Oh, the torches help early on as well..
Makes things take a little longer but both groups have stuff to be excited for with a understandable reason on why they are waiting.
I want inverted grausten pieces 😛
Some of the columns are inverted. I think a couple of roofing pieces too.
I mean the arches
I want a automation focused update for the late game when you have most things. Imagine this building system with the ability to add subgrids like making the top of something rotate.
Ah, yeah, those are rather classic only.
You could animate your bases.
Would attract a whole new community of players to the game too.
In other words if a dev sees this "pls it could give some money" lol
The specifics are a bit more complicated and would make me post a massive text wall.
Their sales have already blown their expectations out of the water. So not sure how much more time and effort they want to sink into Valheim, after 1.0. Dvoid does have another game he wants to create. At least one.
I guess I don't know enough about that though. I am selfish and really want them to add a lot to valheim lol. Plus automation like parts could create a community that could last years, maybe longer. It gives people something todo after finishing the game, a lot to do, and if they play longer, content creators keep making videos, more videos more customers. I feel it could be a win win personally and give more resources for other projects too. It being combined with this unique building system would make it able to do things other games can't.
My sales pitch apparently lol
I have over 5,000 hours on Valheim. Without using mods. The replay ability due to each world being unique has been great. Once I start using mods? I'll be playing Valheim the rest of my life. Much like Skyrim, with mods.
Oh no, try not to get addicted lol
I would have only put maybe 100 hours into Skyrim without mods. I have over 6,000 hours on Skyrim, due to mods.
So I enjoy Valheim, far, far, far more.
Do you like my idea though of a kind of automation focused update? probably only accessible very late into the game? Build a moving windmill that isn't just the preplaced one? A spinning kitchen area. And well the potential for smart players to really go crazy lol.
I am unsure on giving examples of the crazy things because well they sound way out there, kind of like in minecraft when people build actual computers. Maybe not that much though.
Yeah, two of my kids were really into Minecraft. Built some insanely cool cities.
Imagine what people could do if valheim had a redstone like system? though in this case largely based around gears not magic wiring material.
Aw man a troll smushed my head.
Cool ideas, but I would be stunned if the IG team has any intention of putting that kind of effort into Valheim beyond wrapping up the North and do whatever fine tuning they already have planned.
Well if a game can stun its players with amazement, that is very good.
Plus would be a super good reward for completing the games story.
Valheim is like any game, some people love it, just maybe not as much as I do, others, most of them, quickly move on to the new shiny.
I tend to bounce between a few games. I rarely perminantly leave something unless there is like drama or something.
I tend to replay games as well. Not just Valheim, but it has been eating up the most of my time these past 4 years.
Lucky you are able to stay enjoying something for that long, I hope you dedicate that to some irl stuff too. Just is something I would want todo if I had the drive.
It helps that my wife loves it too. She has well over 2,000 hours into Valheim, the vast majority of that playing it with me. In fact, I think she is over 3,000 hours now. I'll have to check later.
Wow, also with the automation thing, the goal is that the devs don't have to do too much complex, just add a bunch of parts that each do something simple, then players decide how to use them.
I mean the subgrid system would be hard but I think well worth it.
Its likely you arent the first one to suggest that.
It would be hard to make a new suggestion after 4 years and 14 million players.
Probably, but still could be very nice.
new suggestion? do you mean system or I misunderstand?
Oh I think I understand
Responded to vinny?
Any idea for adding to the game, make it better, etc... etc...
My wife only has 2,660 hours. I thought she was much closer to 3,000.
It just could be a super good symbiosis with this games build system.
Also "only" lol
We've spent so many late nights playing Valheim, it feels like it should be more. 😄
Happy you both are having lots of fun.
Me too. First game we have ever both liked playing this much. That we can play together.
I would add more POIs, maybe a hub where players can upload their own handmade POIs for review and implementation
That is something I am pretty sure they won't do. Too similar to the idea of adding mods to the base game. Which they have said no to.
wait any mod or mechanics from a mod? as if so that is a terrible decision to lock yourselves out of good things for the game because a modder made it already.
Hey, how does one get into roleplay servers? I'm interested, but don't know where to look.
They want to do such things in house, not invite, and have to pay, some one else for.
Oh you mean like copy the code and such from, not like do the same thing?
Like a mod has foxes, they can still make foxes from scratch just can't take the mod directly to add to the game?
Use the idea, then do it their way. They use Unity, so its not exclusive code.
I was worried at first because what I first though was like:
Modder makes a good qol mod.
Now devs won't ever add a qol update with those features.
They may use the idea, but then do it to best fit the architecture they already have in place. IE the menus for the various tables, etc...
Yea that is fine
I really want to post a suggestion but am nervous about it turning into a bunch of people trying to shut the idea down.
Don't worry about them. The important thing is to have the idea out there to be seen by the Devs.
"I dont draw pictures like that anymore"
If they do, they do, doesent matter much if devs will like it 😄
Exactly.
Thanks I might try putting something together, a system like I am proposing would be difficult to figure out. Mainly what is and isn't needed. Though you also can just add some of it then later expand onto it.
Yeah, they would have to decide all that, etc... All the if and or but's I mentioned earlier, and more factors I am sure.
So I guess start simple, just the gears/rotors mainly. With some way to power them.
Like that saying, "They can't say no, if you don't give them the chance to say yes." So give them that chance.
Remember: if 10 people downvote your suggestion, it's just 10 out of 14 million of all players.
Thanks sometimes feels like it represents a lot more though.
There are only just over 31,000 in this Discord. Still far less than 1% of all players.
Yea fair, and likely a lot is skewed from what the average person might care about, since often only people who like are really devoted or something might join the discord.
I agree.
And those are just the ones online 😄 total population of the server Is 152K
Still less than 1%.
Am trying to work out my automation system idea, pretty much by starting in the middle of like well a task I want to be able to automate would need this this and this. Lets work backwards. Mainly charcoal production. Would likely be used as a power source of automation potentially. Or a option, so then you want to go back to some way to automatically get wood, then trees, and yea. Feel that is a decently complex starting point. To get a base idea of what the system would need to cover. You would need to auto refuel a fire to burn the wood too. A way to move everything around. Just yea.
Feel it is a good middle zone to figure out what is needed for tasks. Then to break up those tasks into as simple components and versatile ones as possible
Too complex for my old brain to sort out after midnight, my time.
have you played Aska?
heard of and have looked at it a little.
Man, another game I own and need to get around to playing.
I saw you mention crafting menus giving you some trouble earlier, have you tried the /sortcraft command?
Nope. I have never learned to use commands.
Lol I love when you can get a bundle but you already have the other game making it a straight discount.
You can organize craft menus alphabetically with "/sortcraft name"
I believe you can even bind that command to a key
What window do I use for these commands? The one we can chat in?
Yeah 😄
Just a heads up, IIRC that kind of automation is something devs are not likely implementing. Some mods exist tho.
OK, just making sure its not like dev commands.
It isn't not to worry 👍
I know, but I do think it would be very good for the base game. Is a dream I really want for this game so might as well try.
Yep way less.
Coal production might be a bad place to start, it's already automated in the swamps.
I'll have to remember to find these commands on the wiki. Tomorrow, When I will feel like I am awake.
I believe you can just type /help in-game to see a list of them as well
Oh, well I mean like if you do it outside of the swamp and do every step. With the goal of making it so those steps aren't specifically just for coal.
The population of this server is just over 1% of the game’s population
Hopefully I will remember that tomorrow. 😄 I am very tired right now.
It’s almost 1.1%
I'm not sure I follow
We're the 1%? Oh no
Mainly like you need ways to automate burning wood, and refueling a fire(could be used for general refueling of stations). Ways to move stuff around too. Auto plant a tree and cut it down(could be expanded to general farming stuff/components).
Just more of take each step of the process and simplify it to a component that can do more than just that one step while working in a very simple way.
Sorry is confusing just mainly a bunch of simple things that players can turn into something complex with smarts and effort.
my idea was some kind of gravity based system for moving stuff around, like put it in a funnel/aquaduct and it falls along it. I don't know.
best way to farm chickens
I mean going from rotation to a super simple conveyer isn't that hard and doesn't really require anything advanced, just wrapping one thing around another thing.
Tbh, I’m not sure “automation” fits Valheim
Would be nice for some things, but I don’t think it would fit
It is more of a idea for something after the story. Largely for player enjoyment mainly.
Like not something that affects much throughout your playthrough but a kind of thankyou reward at the end for if you want to keep going. A way to put all the technologies you encountered and utilized to something.
Hey
The story as is, is that the whole point of us being there is to subdue the bosses and leave
Hey
I guess, but feel it would be kind of bleh if the reward for finishing the game was to delete or rollback your save lol.
I'm hoping for new game+ with starred forsaken and a "true ending" 😅
Games used to have an end to them. Weren’t meant to play the same game perpetually without end
I want like you get blessed with more knowledge as a reward allowing you to do this automation stuff.
You can always replay the game, do things differently etc. But, who knows what the devs will end up doing
They’ll make their game
I know it is unlikely but still think it would be a nice suggestion and idea. Would be a pretty nice reward to me too. A whole lot you can do now that you beat the game.
Animate you base with moving parts too.
There is automation in-game, it's just limited to certain things. Grain mills, sap extractors, beehives, wisp fountains, etc. I personally see a lot of depth within Valheim without need for advanced redstone-like automation, and in-fact, the hands on nature of Valheim keeps me very much engaged with the world while playing. I'm not sure I would play as much if I could automate tasks.
I mean how you use it is up to you, plus it is very end game, you could potentially just use to it make like your own more industrial windmill or something. It doesn't have to do it all for you if you don't want it to.
Of course, I am just pointing out the reason I think it might be bad for players as a whole, as it would encourage less engaging gameplay. Having such a system at the end of the game also makes little sense to me, the developers putting something that complex together only to have no real goals left for the player is a little nonsensical.
Though I also largely want it for stuff like rotating crane builds and draw bridges. Maybe if clever enough a elevator. That would be complicated to figure out I assume. Mainly just what ever a player can figure out. Maybe part of it comes earlier like the decorative bits?
I mean I guess you could make a ferris wheel elevator simply by having a high torque rotating center in a big enough area. With the ends hanging so gravity self rights them.
End games are difficult to figure out, I don't like the idea of the player only having progression as something to look forward to.
I need to go to bed it is 2am for me, goodnight though and thanks for the chats.
OK you’ve completely lost me at elevator 😂
This is Valheim, not satisfactory
Trap a greydwarf in a wheel and have a magically remote activated fire
Yw irongate
yeah think you might like Aska better, you can manage production, workers, and gatherers @summer fern
Looked back at my phone but yea that is why I hesitate on mentioning what ambitious players do. I don’t mean add a elevator, more like when a super smart player combines a bunch of simple things in a unique way making something new that wasn’t designed like when a minecraft redstoneer creates super advanced mini games or even like a proper simple computer.
I just mean like you add a subgrid system so you can move stuff/rotate it, that is it, but someone smart goes above and beyond turning it into something bigger and new.
I mean you can kind of do it now if I recall correctly with like catapults or something.
Mainly the same thing using something in a way the devs didn’t specifically design for it.
You simply add the ability to rotate stuff and that spirals to the possibly of a player going crazy with it.
Heh.
Like my friend who built an automated chicken farm 😂
Tall building with a few hens crammed in boxes so they drop their eggs and can keep laying without hitting the limit
Yea kind of just where if someone wanted to and knew how they could go even crazier with it.
Question, the factions page on the wiki says every faction except player is allied to ths boss faction, does this include the dwarves
Dwarves don't have a boss, so they're neutral to the player.
Unless you attack them, that makes the one in sight hostile to you.
@forest jacinth i mean... Wouldnt make sense, the dwarvens specificly Got Driven Out of their homes and mines by the area boss
So, makes sense they arent allies of the area boss specificly
Would have been actually nice If the dwarvens would have given u Something AS reward of Killing the area boss.. or become true allies afterwards
One in sight and surrounding ones hostile* 😛
I believe it's any randomly spawned dwarves and then the tower poi ones if close enough can aggro if one is hit
The faction labeled "boss" my bad
Every foresaken is just in the faction called "boss" unless the wiki is lying
Accurate - each forsaken is technically the leader of a faction of some sort
I don’t think the dwarves give a ***** about us so long as we don’t bother them
It’s why they are so quick to turn on us if we overstep - even if it’s an accident
Hugin and Munin say they are waiting for reinforcements from their home, but sadly, no-one is coming
Whether that means their paths are cut cause Yggdrasil was severed or the dwarves don’t have a home anymore is left up to our imagination 😅
Last sad remnants of a dying species
RIP all the dverger
Always the small people

Small but deadly, especially the dwarven mages and their fireballs xD
A danger to everyone and themselves 🤣
And we wonder why their structure are always in such a mess 😂
WELL, this IS mostly a gjalls mess xD
is the only way to get queen bees is to take down a bee hive? or can you generate them somehow building your own bee hives?
As far as I know the only way is to destroy wild hives
alright cool. time to find some beehives then
i beat this game once already during the time it released. but its been years since i played it now. trying again. but this time just chillin. i turned off the monster waves and just relaxing and building now
Theres a mode called hammer mode if you really wanna just build
ill check that out. but atm i want to build but also progress as well to bosses etc. just dont like those waves lol
bronze mace got through the bonemass nice
i want to farm for bronze and silver etc to get strong gear and armor to fight bosses. id find it kind of boring if i farm all that stuff and theres nothing to kill
Oh then dont use hammer mode it's basically just creative mode
forsure. maybe another time ill try that mode out.
I had the most boring dream last night that I’d managed to track down both settlements & the stone circle and build a road connecting them all 😅 Friggin no map is getting to me!
boring? that sounds great! wish i could play valheim in my sleep! 😂
Yeah gimme the SAO experience (minus the weird shit) where I can just lie in a coma and play Valheim
If I had Valheim dreams I’d get killed by a tree
Same
How many people after cleaning out a copper node, smooth it out and use cultivator to add undergrowth so it’s not an eyesore?
I just don't dig it out at all 😅
I'll just mine the surface stuff and move on.
I do this this sometimes but it’s right near my base and I need stone too 😁
Everything is near your base with a portal

Once you get stone portals, yes 😂
probably worth it to keep a stonecutter handy on the road and just demolish bf towers
Not once in my life
I just dig out the ground around them
Then they fall
Snail: Creates massive crater
Also snail: This is fine 😊
hey all, whats the general consensus on mismatching armor pieces? would it be recommended?
Depends how you play
Pretty much
Though tbh I’m usually more like Omni where I don’t bother digging into the terrain
I go very minimalist on bronze. Don’t bother making weapons or armor out of it
Sounds about right - it’s just a huge hassle
Especially now that you can make bear armor
It’s just… better than all alternatives
And SO DAMNED EASY to make! 😂
This last run, I didn't spend time fully digging out copper. I just cracked the visible parts and moved on. -- Still built and fully upgraded all bronze pieces and it actually felt faster than spending the time digging out complete nodes.
Like seriously, once you know how to kill a bear effectively, why would you make any other armor???
Except it requires killing methbears!
Because I like bronze armor 😭
You do not know the way
🥳
I was trapped in a burial chamber entrance just throwing my spear at it. Cheese? Almost definitely. But it worked and I lived!
Spears my beloved.
Bronze armor is one of my favourites aesthetically as well
I do not. I was already in blackmetal on my main world and my newest playthru is just a baby
I was just looking for blueberries!!
Sildar, remember to breathe between all of these party favors 😭
Or don’t. It’ll be funny when you pass out 😁
I pray you enjoy every minute of it!
especially the deathruns, cause there’s going to be a LOT of them! 😂
Mapless death runs what’s not to love
I’ll try 😁
Ffs phone…
I decided to torture myself
🗺
⁉️

No maps, no portals, fire hazards. The only thing I didn’t change was enemy difficulty because I will die plenty on my own
Amen to that! 🙈
If you could at least make a map on your cartography table I’d be fine with that
But NO map?!?
Hel no! 🤣
Gives more pickaxe skill faster too
I use copper/bronze for house decorating.
One time tried very hard hardcore no map no portals .5x resources max raid rate and I can confirm that it was hell
Kinda fun tho too with friends
You absolute madman
No map I would make paths everywhere
You snail of daft wit and crazed tendencies!
This game NEEEEEDS to apply for the better with friends award!!!
@near furnace ?
Applications when? 🥰
I look for this every time there are steam awards but it’s never available under that category 😭
So when new roof parts will come?
With the Deep North update. Patience, young Jedi
And when deep north will come?
We dont know 🙂
Yeah, we only have educated guesses at this point.
In the future at some point
Soon ™
Only official info we have regarding DN release is that it will not be this year 🙂
We know “not 2025”
So by inferrence, it must be 2024 that we get Deep North
Gods, I love biome-border terrain anomalies. Jst seen a bear casually strolling around the plains with a few greys in tow. No black forest until at least two hundred meters away - but the border extends along the shore. So no visual BF terrain objects - but bears. That bear slaughtered a gang of fulings.
Right after we invent time travel!
It's so fun
I tend to seek to actively initiate them and then sit back and watch the carnage
My main map has a surtling spawner in the middle of the plains. The strip of swamp was too narrow to spawn anything else
Love that kinda stuff!
Thats awesome! I've only got swamp houses and one time a crypt. Never a geyser.
We aggro log trolls into the swamps on the regular. Also Lox.
I got a burial chamber in the middle of plains once - set on the beach so the entrance was under water, thought it was a new variant of sunken crypt at first...
I think I have a screenshot of that one
I used to have tons of screenshots, but for some reason Steam made almost all of them disappear.
I regularly dump the Steam screenshot folder over to my pictures folder that has backup sync
Clearly, I should have been doing that.
Learned from past mistakes, had fifteen years' worth of WoW screenshots that went up in smoke from a HD breaking down
Yeah.
Same with all my important stuff - DON’T put you important stuff ONLY ON THE CLOUD!!! 🤣
We never know when it might rain 😂
I have to back everything up today anyways. My second attempt at a new computer starts this afternoon.
Yes! I sat in a tree and watched that once
Hi guys Im new on valheim any one pass me good serwer?
Takes a while, both resistant to blunt, right?
If you are completely new I recommend learning the game solo - or finding somebody else completely green to learn together. Don't hop on a server in progress, you'll only get things spoiled and miss half the fun. But, #1024264966712340510 should have you covered if you persist.
I can't vouch for being good, but we search for them in this channel, #1024264966712340510
Yeah, as Derleth said, its most ideal if you play solo, or find a friend to learn the game with you.
ok thanks
Indeed. Valheim is not an MMO, nor a live service game. There is multiplayer, but multiplayer is not the only way to play it, and indeed if you play with people you don't know who are way further progressed, you can end up having a terrible time.
Learning it with friends is best. Friends who scream together, stay together.
The experience of first time playing it blind is a feeling I wish I could experience again.
Word
I previously played Conan Exile for a very long time, maybe it's a similar game?
Some similarities, but they are not what I would call being a lot alike.
Seekers are such a-holes, witnessed a group flying around bullying various plains denizens. Fulings have it coming, but I still felt sorry for them
I have no sympathy for the lil gigglerats
I'll never feel bad for fulings. They traumatized me too much in my formative year.
Me neither, but I hate seekers even more 😂
Will the new higher pitched rooves in the deep north update also come with higher pitched beams? I would assume so but i wanna be sure
"Hold your pincers, bug scum, those are mine to kill!"
IF you read the news, you know as much as the rest of us.
Wouldn't have known about the new rooves if it weren't for reading it first, was just seeing if anyone knew more about it than I.
All we might know would be from the dev blogs 🙂
From the screenshot it does look like new beams and roof walls, I hope it goes the same for corewood beams too
Heh, sailing around a continent-sized island to explore its shape. Weather changes follow the outline of the island perfectly, wind straight in my face constantly. Do I turn around to take the other way around? Hell naw - luck has to break some time, right? (Knowing that IF I turn around, so will the wind)
Main reason during relaxed plays that I kill Moder. Need that wind ability
Yeah, only lasts five minutes though, uptime 1/3 of the time in other words, rest of the time I'm rowing...
But for that glorious five minutes … ahhh
Ohyeah!
…and then it expires right as you’re going along the plains coastline

Thats why I don't even bother getting the Moder power unless I am playing with my wife or friends.
Now that it also buffs weight capacity it is more than worth it while you are farming stuff
I don't do those two things while sailing.
Went and picked Bonemass for the queen fight, and haven't had the energy to sail back and swap back, so right now I don't have it 😕
yeah actually, without all the slave and crafting station time bars for stuff, a lot of crafting is immediate-ish except for smelting ore, but combat isnt insanely different, id say valheim’s is much more finished and skill dependent than the hack and slash of conan
morning folks
Good afternoon!
Its still morning for me, so I guess we are both in America. Or at least North America.
It's 11:35am for me so I guess it's just baaaarely morning :p
So EST. I'm CST.
mountain standard central standard close enough :p
I used to live in AZ, so was MST for a long time.
I'd say that is "noon" but hey, "morning" is relative even if you're in the same timezone. When I worked mixed night/evening/day shifts my internal clock was so messed up after a couple of years that I never knew what was what. Didn't sleep for six years... (quit that job) So... Good Morning!
Yeah but we don't have a good greeting for noon. Good noon sounds silly and afternoon would be well after noon
Could go the Aussie way, g'day
True true
I just transition from Good Morning to Good Afternoon.
Could go the Early Modern English/Renaissance method: “God ye good den to thee”
Good Middle of the Day! raises drinking horn
God middag! Och skål! <hic>
Modern English confuses me more than enough.
Mood
You can thank the French and Dutch for corrupting English
English is just three languages in a trenchcoat beating up other languages for spare syntax
Only 3?
Rob Words has a great video on the topic as to why English is how it is
3 as the core but it robs all the others
I found some really old bonemaw meat in my ships cargo hold. Should still be safe to eat ;P
It comes pre-salted and pre-cooked it’s fine
Needs Worcestershire sauce and it’s perfect
Another weirdly satisfying thing in this game - killing a troll with a sneaky bow shot at distance, and then looking at it tumbling down a hill
I prefer Malted Vinegar on my sea food.
I like to think the sea serpents taste like snake fried in long John silvers old oil. Kinda meaty with a fishy hint. So worchester works for me 😁
I can taste this just by description
I always think of how serpent stew boils down the meat from 10 kgs apiece to 1 for one portion of stew. That's some serious "boiling down"
Snake tastes nothing like sea fish/food to me, but I can see trying Worcestershire on snake meat.
I've never had snake. I ate crocodile when I was in Australia but it didn't have a very distinctive taste to me
alligator is good
I've had Gator every time I have gone to New Orleans here in the states. Its different, but not very different from fresh water fish. Snake is its own flavor, but the texture is very similar to chicken. Not exactly the same, but close.
it tastes like chicken but feels like shrimp lol
Yeah, chicken is the closest, as far as land animals go.
But I draw my line at bugs, that's just...I just can't
Never been there, but I do love the Kimchi I can get state side.
I was there on a conference, and one evening they had this great dinner with traditional dishes, lots of weird stuff
Jellyfish soup - some grey, disgustiong looking stuff in a bowl. Looked like glass noodles had been left to boil for hours. Was very spicy, tasted like ocean
Yeah, I don't think I would eat that. Not a fan of salt water. Which is why I doctor my seafood like I do. Lemon, Malted Vinegar, lots of butter, stuff like that.
Anyway some of the Valheim dishes aren't exactly mouth-watering (muckshake, huh?!?) but some of them, especially the feasts, look so damn delicious I want to eat them for real
Eyescream

Those feasts do look very appetizing.
Zombie guts sausages
Swamp made me realise my Valheim viking is deranged
Meadows and forest full of boars and deer. "Hel no, I will make sausage skins from the guts of walking swamp dead!"
I just pretend they get those from boar. Some how.
Or deer, I can deal with it being from deer.
Yeah
Smoldering Tomb is awesome, the animation of skellies breaking out of their sarcophagi...class.
Oh, Brenna dropped a second chest, I didn't expect that. Only came here for the trophy 😄
The raid that unlocks gets irritating. I only want a few of her trophies.
Not 10, or more.
I'm planning to build a chandelier, using ashlands wood beams, going to need a few more
I suppose Hildir won't even accept a second chest, so either I leave this heavy thing here or bring it home as decoration
She even comes after you in Ashlands, so you will likely get them. I did that when I was still in the Mountains. So have gotten her raid a LOT.
Decoration. She does not accept it.
It's kinda big, I know just the place for it!
They need to make those chests work on item stands.
Or just placeable
You get to close, you will pick them back up.
They could make them placeable with the hammer, like food with the serving platter
That would be good too. Item stand or placeable, either way. Just so I don't pick them up unless I want to.
The most appetizing swamp dish besides the turnip stew is black soup
Why cant we eat raw turnips are our vikings weak
Turnips make people gassy. Even cooked.
Not sausages?
I'd rather eat sweetened leech soup than zombie sausages lol
I've had actual black soup a few times, traditional peasant dish around here. Based on goose blood, of all things
My limited research said it was pork based
There’s different versions
Thats cool, I like black pudding id probably like black soup lol
Same.
The one I had had a Christmassy taste to it
What even is that? Pine needles?
I never make the black soup / blood pudding / whatever the swamp food is called. It just doesn't seem worth
Sweet, clove, ginger, allspice, brandy, apples and served along with goose
Yeah the black soup is kinda meh if you have serpent stew and sausages
Oh. OK, I raised geese, so didn't just eat them during the holidays.
Short duration,
Does it have good regen
Eh I'd even rather make deer stew
Or cooked bear
I save the blood sacs for plains food.
3, and just 20 mins duration (like straight cooked meat), so it is really something you'll only make if you're out of all other ingredients.
I use them for potions
Like one stamina food I think? Personally I never make it
Blood pudding
Yep, Blood Pudding.
It's great, 30 minutes duration unlike any other stamina food until that unicorn dish in Mistlands, fish'n bread
Which you can only make with Angler Fish.
With the introduction of feasts I've almost completely stopped using stamina foods
That duration makes a difference, especially on a no-portals run
Good is a point of view, Anakin.
I will say though the ||mistlands salad|| is a very nice stamina food you can get pretty easily before really doing mistlands
Yeah, I do two feasts plus a HP or stamina food, depending.
yeah, I only wish that one would stack to 20 so you could bring more of it along
I do 2hp one feast, sometimes 3hp
But I rly need that hp
Last stamina food to stack to 20 is bread 🙁
In mountains I'll prob slot in a stamina food
Feasts stack to 50 (essentially, I think) 😎
Since I'm on a no-portals run the feasts are pretty much just for base loitering for me
Once you get the 45/45 feasts, it does open up your options a lot.
Are you also on no respawns
I wish they'd improve jerky a bit and add a few higher tier ones. Old ones are really bad now that there are feasts - but you can carry them with you. If they only had half-decent stats they'd have a function.
Whats the best jerky? 33/33?
Jerky being dirt cheap is likd the only thing it has
White foods in general seem awful
"Best" is a stretch, but yes wolf jerky gives 33/33 and is currently the highest tier one you can make.
Other mountain tier foods total 80 stats or more
So wolf jerky is a terrible waste of mats, both the meat and the honey is better used for other things
Yeah, I have never made it. Only jerky I have ever made/used is the boar? Or is it deer?
Boar
Fair enough, "best" as in a fifth division soccer team winning the league are the best in their league, but not exactly champions league material
Is it the best white food besides feasts
Best in its class 😄 doesent mean its actually good in wider context
All jerkies currently are a waste of materials 😁
I haven't even made/used the boar jerky in two years. So they may as well remove jerky as far as I am concerned.
There is a case for boar jerky before you've managed to make a cultivator and grow crops, after that not so much.
They had an idea with jerky, but then they decided to go with feasts.
So jerky is largely just an artifact of an abandoned system.
Yeah, I kinda hope they come back to it though, since you can't bring feasts along on long journeys. And I don't think you should be expected to always have a pocket portal at hand. Yes, my perspective right now is very coloured by no-portals experiences, I like that jerky stacks to 20 and can be brought along, but the shitty stats makes it not worth it anyway, I'd rather sacrifice two inventory slots for actually good food... (Plus of course no higher tier jerkies exist)
Jerky and Cheese. Turn this into a cowboy western game 😏
Valheim: Sponsored by JackLinks.
Lol I never saw the text on tuna before, "Chicken of the sea". What a lovely insult to the majestic tuna!
I don't think that's how it works 🤔
Aaaaaw 😢
It’s an American tuna brand name in use since 1914.
I think they were only eligible their first year. I'd have to read the rules again. They are in one category this year. I forget which one. They were the only one I could even vote on, since I have not played any of the other nominees.
Awesome, never knew - thanks!
Here's an idea for a magic staff true to old shamanism - changing the bloody weather. And no, not just for wind in the sails - we got Moder powa for that - but for clearing foggy plains coasts when exploring. I've now been dead in the water for 15 minutes because I can't see shit, and I don't want to put my boat aground amidst a bloody lox flock or a fuling village...
And I don't know how many times I have prepared to raid a fuling village, and when I get there it is cloaked in mist. And no, I am not crazy enough to run in there swinging when I can't even see. Those shammies and berzerkers can ruin my day quickly if I let them.
Moder power doesn't work with askvin cape
I'd like something to work with Askvin cape 🙂
Although Askvin cape does look kinda nuts already. Haven't used it for a while though
Is that the one with the collar, or that the other one? I hate that collar thing, just can't use that cape.
Without the mask looking thing
Dunno, but one of the Ashlands capes I crafted had this absurd collar going around the entire lower half of your head, making you look absolutely stupid. Didn't like that at all.
Looked like I had jammed a hare trap around my neck
It's the cape without collar. Greenish color.
Yeah that one was okay, no issues with that one. The other one was more combat/tank oriented with more armour than other capes. Was good, and I wanted to use it - but with that collar it's just not possible.
it also reduces stamina usage when fighting
That collar looks good with the heavy armor helmet.
I still predominantly use the feathered cape, though.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder as they say, I thought it looked ridiculous and just obstructed view of the helmet that did look good. Ugh I tried, but in the end I went back to the feather cape.
I use the ashen cape when its time to get serious.
Yeah, I find the feathered cape far more useful to have on.
Meaning, its mostly when I fight Fader
Slightly sad that weakness to fire barely even matters in the fire biome. Like no enemies use fire attacks that you will realistically get hit by :/
Ashen cape, that's it. I wish it would have a variant without collar that you can opt for when crafting it
I get nailed by the blobs all the time. Then there is the Valkyries.
Indeed, plus random firebolts coming flying from the lava sea. I burned often enough in Ashlands to keep a stack of barley wine on me at all times
Valkyries fire is sooooo slow, I don't think I've ever been hit by it.
Been a while since I played ashlands but I don't remember blobs being an issue either. Only issue might be warlocks? But those are rare
I'm planning on running around with root harnesk in ashlands on this run despite the fire weakness (not allowing myself to use elemental resistance meads). I just don't see the fire being a big problem
I have. Its not a question of getting hit by the fireball, its the fire trail that it leaves behind that is an issue. Its not too much of a problem if you are only fighting the valkyrie but if you are vending off a bunch of enemies too, you can easily step in fire.
I get nailed because I am rarely just dealing with one or the other. Its usually a host.
the warlocks are also quite dangerous for the same reasons
True. I feel like I tend to continually kite backwards when I'm fighting to not suddenly be surrounded and get hit by a sideshot from someone
and then theres the daddy
Ashen cape stays on for me all the time in Ashlands, plus Ask armor set. Sadly the collar clips weirdly with the hood but have gotten used to it.
oh I am NOT using root harnesk against good ol daddy
IIRC all his melee attacks deal pierce.
Oh but that's it, it was when I used the Ask set with that cape that i ragequit, it does suit the heavy armour better!
Took me a long while to find flametal, so I ran with the ask set a long time
Goes great with those horns, imo.
True, but honestly I don't think I'm gonna go melee on him. Haven't fully made up my mind though
I think my general strategy is just to be fast, so I can avoid all attacks. Rather than going for tanky/resistant
Oh, and my glowing eyes. Vampire! 😄
My experience is that Fader's attacks arent too hard to deal with with what's available. What killed me last time I tried him was the fire on the ground. I melted in seconds. I was pissed by that because I had no way to tell that this fire was more fiery than the other fire he does.
And before anyone asks, yes, I was drunk on barley wine.
So its lava fire.
well its green, but he does like two green fires
they look the same but deal vastly different damage
and THAT is no bueno for me
I mean in terms of being dangerous, even with the wine.
I think he has three. ||Meteors that leave ground AoE. Fissures that follow you. Fire that doesn't follow you but fills a big part of the battlefield.||
If I remember right
I have yet to fight Fader. Getting close to him this time.
You got this! Use your wife as bait and you will survive
I'm the tank. She comes in and flanks.
I remember complaining about that in Elden Ring too. Theres no reasons for me to assume that a mundane rat would do so much damage, considering the ones I met earlier were weak, but an identical looking rate that kinda tries to scratch me shouldnt take out a third of my armored health like that. I dont care if those are capital dwelling rats!
The best advice I have with fader is to be patient. He will do lots of attacks that will prevent you from attacking back, so you'll feel like you are wasting time. You have to be patient and wait for a window to attack.
I wear heavy armor and use Tower Shields. I am patient by default.
Same issue for me, lava/fire on ground is often what would kill me before anything else.
I hope the heat resistance of the heavy armor helps with that.
I have yet to figure out what it really does for me, since I am pretty much living on Fire Wine.
As far as I know, all it does is let you survive a few seconds longer in the sea, and maaaaybe it delays death in lava a couple of seconds
I am guessing it has to be at least some what different from Fire Wine. Since its in percentages.
Heat not fire resistance
it doesn't affect fire damage at all, only "heat"
Wish the 2nd to last heavy set would have had something a little cooler than the heat resist
The heat resist is, to be perfectly onest, pure garbage
I wish set bonuses weren't exclusive to non-heavy armor, but here we are...
It doesn't
The armour is good, but it might as well have been without set bonus like other heavies
Yeah, thats what I am guessing. Just hard to figure out how much it helps since I am also always on the Fire Wine. So I was not able to distinguish one effect from the other.
Definitely use ratatosk. I imagine it might be a tough fight if you're very slow
I like the angle the thought process
Attempting to make the respective biome more manageable
Its not as bad as it used to be, but yeah, I am still slow with the shield out. Even with my 100 run and Jump.
Ratatosk is great when you rock heavy armor
Does it help even after your maxxed out? Like I know the bow bonus from the Troll set didn't take you above 100 skill.
Ratatosk gives +15% movement speed
Not run skill
Increases run speed, so shouldn't affect skill in any way
It made a barely noticeable difference in Mistlands, but I wasn't at 100 yet.
OK, still hard to see a difference when you move so fast in the first place.
Major gain from the skill is stamina drain, but yes - ratatosk does very clearly co-exist with high run skill, I use it all the time 😄
I carry it. I use it when I HOPE it will help me move faster. Just can't tell if it actually does.
Hard to imagine you moving that fast in heavy armor and tower shield getup
I only have the shield out when I am fighting, not running.
R key, life saver
Yep.
That armor modifier doesn't bother me at all. The shield does make a very noticeable difference. Less of one now, but still noticeable.
But with judicious use of the R key, its only out when I am actively engaged.
wait dungeons can have multiple levels???
Yep. Even the black forest dungeons.
Swamp crypts don't.
Finding out dungeons can go lower was cool
Haven't seen that yet but I only raided a couple
Yeah I just got into this one dungeon that has a ramp up, and another room with a ramp down
not many surtling cores in this one though
I have an untouched one behind my brewery
How rare is a meadows dungeon
They don't exist
The cores tend to be on the main level in the BF.
In my world one generated in the meadows
There would be a tiny black forest it spawned in
Ok I should say one bordering the bf and meadows then
Thats an anomaly. Happens very rarely. Still a BF dungeon, though.
Think I have only come across two in the meadows. One was shared earlier today that was out in the plains.
Its in screenshots.
Love those anomalies, they're the peak of exploration!
I like interesting rivers. I always dream of making a little BF village with bridges and walkways but
It is time consuming. Plus its not easy to find a river that is just the right width, without having to dig it out more.
I did build a stone bridge a while back tall enough to sail the longship under. I was planning to build it over with towers and rooms and have it like some kind of bridge base, but then I got distracted by my no-portals world
Inspiration being some of those medieval bridges in some larger European cities, where lack of real estate made people start building homes on bridges
Like the London Bridge used to be.
Aye
Now I am trying to remember that Nursery rhyme. 😄
Wassup
Getting ready to finally build my plains farm right outside of the Mistlands.
London Bridge is falling down?
Some of the shit our ancstors did is hard to believe these days. I read about this archaeological dig in Germany (Herxheim, google it if you like a good grisly real-world nightmare) a while back that, if I had seen that place in a film, I would have laughed it off as ridiculous. Same goes for buildings. So I'm a bit annoyed at Valheims weak stone buildings, I think building in stone could be a little more forgiving tbh.
I just write it off to being a video game, not reality.
London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down. London Bridge is falling down, my fair lady
Build it up with iron bars, iron bars, iron bars. Build it up with iron bars, my fair lady
Ah, yeah, its the second stanza I was failing on.
Thanks! I was about to google it!
There’s more but my boss walked by
And “sharing nursery rhymes on a Viking game chat room” isn’t in my job description
Its not? Wrong job, then. 😄
Hah
Still - stone could be a bit stronger, both versus blue-skinned hooligans and for building tall, cool buildings!
For SO many reasons 🤦♀️ I got Chinese for lunch and my fortune cookie said “With luck on your side, now is the time to make a bold move” and it’s like, the cookie told me to quit!! We must obey the whims of the cookie!
My wife has a pretty good job. Work from home, gets to help out fellow Veterans. Only problem is her management is super incompetent AND petty.
I have the best job of all. Retired.
She works for our government. To be fair, they have in a new top dog. Seems like he is going to improve things. We will see.
Yup, same bosses then. -_-
You in St Louis too? That would be funny.
Alas, no. Texas
Yeah, we considered moving there. For a very short period of time. St Louis won out. Easily.
Yeah I’m looking at Minnesota even though I’d die there in the winter
Yeah, its bad enough here. Even right now.
Definitely looks and feels like we are living in Valheims mountain biome right now.
We need wolf cloaks.
OK, I am going to go concentrate on building my plains farm. Been putting it off for days now.
You got this!!
Yeah, I have a simple one made, with wood fences, but I need to make a good solid one, on the Mistlands border. So I can easily stock up on hares.
The Gjall bladders won't upset me either.
Look no further than the #1024264966712340510 channel!
thanks for the help!
Yes sure!
how much have you played? ive only beaten 3 bosses so far :,)
u Russian?
Latvian
ah
nickname more of an inside joke, russian language is thought to us in school, as is english
lol okay
why ask?
the name
Hello everyone!!!!
hey! if i decided to use a mace type weapon the whole game, what kind or armour and stuff should i use?
Anything you find comfortable for your playstyle.
what should i name my character?
Whatever you like!
would some1 help me w a build?
Like building a house or character "build"?
i rlly suck at building in like all games i do, its for a chimney
well more specifically iits for a cooking station
what can i do if i keep getting incopetable version on joining server?
None. I will be doing Ashlands with my wife this evening, so that might change.
good luck. I'm currently trying to get some sap for more magic food. might try Fader for the first time
Yeah, we have a Fader location, just not there yet. It will be our first time fighting him as well.
oh boy do you have enough bells
I think we need 1 more.
better tackle another fortress!
My wife tells me we have made 3 bells.
I think that's all you need to summon him
OK, well he appears to be on the island we are currently on. So maybe we will fight him tonight.
Here's to the death of a king!
Yep.
First you kill mother, now you're going to kill father. Sounds like a lore-accurate family ruining viking
Now you just need to go to deep north to kill their son Timmy too
Ah yes, The Winter Timmy
If the DN boss isn’t Winter Timmy, I’m going to be extremely upset
What if it's a female?
Would it be Winter Tammy then?
Build a lighthouse
ill just keep a portal at her
accidentally left the game open and a skeleton raid triggered, rip benny the lox and dog the wolf
I might recommend building some kind of indicator of location in case something happens to the portal.
Aw benny and dog lol.
Ahh! no I forgot the lightbulb emoji and now have to wait 30 minutes before I can post my suggestion. I assume that is a precaution against bots?
I declare that is everyone but myselfs fault lol.
man the mountain biome is so cool looking when there isnt a snowstorm
and it sucks ass when there is a snow storm 😭
It does look pretty, hope the deep north captures some of that.
Oh imagine the snowstorms there lol
Fader has been defeated.
Fader faded into the void?
Where ever it is they go. He has been sacrificed.
Worst is when its raining in the mountains, I hate it
makes it so hard to maneuver too with zero stamina
At least that is very rare - normally just snow not rain
Losing the ability to see anything Sunny much better, but at least I can still hop over any blasted wolves trying to take a chunk out of me 😂
Too common if you make a mountain outpost, have max raid rate on, and tend to skip bonemass 😔
