I always go slow playing solo. My wife and I don't go all that fast either.
Yeah i dont use the world generator, or dev commands, I play with a 10 year old and 13 year old, so its always a long slow grind
I don't think I have cross 100 yet, but I have hit the part where I slow wayyyy down. π
I kind of speed run to Mistlands so I can get Black Marble and then I just pause while I do a lot of building π
I explore pretty thoroughly. Takes a while to go to all the islands and run them.
Yeah im the same, every island i land on i 100% explore, before moving on, I just enjoy the game
I have my one map and I am very happy with it.
Thank you @glossy heath π
I don't explore as thoroughly once I get to the Mistlands, but I still probably explore more than most. Like I will explore everything between me and the Queen, when I find out where she is.
My two favorite things:
Starting a new run
Viking D-day (first Ashlands landing)
This comes in with my slowdown in Mistlands because I need to grind so much to build the way I build, so I have to go back and just fully clear entire islands at a time.
Since I hate the Ashlands, I'll only do what I have to there.
I usually just keep fortress tally so I can ensure I have cleared them all, kill Fader, and get out.
There is a known number of fortress'?
Per world.
Which is what makes your elemental upgrades random.
Because if you get crap RNG on the gems in the chests, you either deal with it or you have to world hop and sail to a different Ashlands.
I'd deal with it until I find out what the North is like. Then I might still just deal with it.
I don't think I have ever seen a natural 2-star deer tbh.
Only when I have spawned them.
i've only seen a few in my hundreds of hours
might be more common far from spawn, i had 1 in a pen at spawn once, idk what killed it π
And a day 1 Eikthyr down. I like this map better already
They are common as
Got raided by bats while making eitr.
Half of them died to the magic missiles π
Yo anyone wanna help me with some build ideas
bro vile armor is ass i take so much damage its not funny
I got the rest of the weapons i needed and got everything up but still feel like it can look better after this im on to all the shields
I made it but never tried it good to know tho
i mean light armor + bonus damage for extra stamina and health regen sounds good but then I barely notice the buffs and getting nearly oneshot by the very creatures I made my armor from is not very cash money
Buffs pierce right?
Danm that blows Iβve noticed since they did this last update they did a heavy rebalance so in order to probably get the full effect you have to combine it with the stamina to drink it, and the stamina meads from that area to get the full effects obviously with the rested above
yeah it buffs pierce and blunt but I aint no bitch using arrows
Tasty Mead remains the best stamina mead π
yeah but i'm dead so that didn't quite help
Yeah it's the "I use exclusively atgiers and I spin2win" armor set π
The incoming damage increase doesn't matter if everyone is always stunned and unable to hit you.
But if that is not your playstyle, the armor set has severe drawbacks.
oh its for atgiers? ok no that sounds dope I'm just avoiding those this playthrough cuz they are my goat and I want to try something new
Atgeirs are pierce so that armor set and things like the wolf trinket enhance them.
I just run the speed build finress armor + asksvin cape and for weapons I use storm ripper, and the fist weapons
I'm a heavy armor enjoyer π
Definitely
Carapce Armor with no cape is my favorite look in the entire game tbh.
but yeah I guess that makes sense if so then I'll love that set every time I am not explicitly telling myself no atgiers
I love it when fish just jump into your ship π€£
Game feels a lot more engaging without atgeirs, bows, and magic (or just more limited magic use) imo
Silver armor add some spirit damage to your weapons. Silver shield has some spirit damage on block/parry.
Iron armor reduces stagger
Bronze armor turns green if you stand in the rain.
I guess padded armor would be like iron but with a better set bonus
Dunno what carapace would do. Maybe it could have some "hp pool" that soaks damage a bit until you repair it or something?
Since it has its arms free, maybe carapace gives some stamina cost reduction for attacks?
sounds good
speed of attacks could be 1
stagger power maybe
levels for some weapon skills
things that would have some utility or change the way you play would be ideal
maybe not just flat power buffs, because i like being able to mix items too.
be me
a good day to set sail
hop on ship
wind is directly against my destination again
i'm sure Odin is laughing his ass off thinking its funny to do this to me for the half billionth time
Disassembling the black marble structures in the Mistlands... and man wish these 12x12m massive black marble wall pieces were buildable.
I havenβt done anything on those pages
@raven thorn wtf is up with you lol
will fishes despawn if I put them in a pool in a biome not where they belong?
Like i have an ocean-going base in the BF but if I catch a Plains fish and put it in my BF pool will it be gone
They wonβt despawn if theyβre near player base pieces like other items
oh ok cool bcs my pet Serpent was gone after I left the base to build my Plains fortress
π
You need a serpent that was spawned in rain and not at night
imagine if we can build some sort of a giant aquarium
imagine if we can build
do serpents breathe through gills? or do they breathe air
they breathe our fear
if they breather through gills then would it make sense that they would slowly suffocate if you dragged them on land
Whats better fist or knife
Depends, against which enemy? π
And which fist weapon and which knife
In general. I want my main weap for 1v1s against just normal mobs like if a wolf gets closed or a troll or greydwarf i will switch to knife and buckler or fist. Im currently using fist but it feels like theres only 2 options for it. Im new. Just 50days ingame casual
That would take too long, I need me some serpent meat and I don't got the time to torture the fish
There's 3 different fish weapons so overall, they're not exactly viable throughout the whole game
And given how their mechanics work, I wouldn't say they're viable at all
yeah ik
but it would be some feature/detail
serpents die to frost arrows super fast as is
i killed maybe 7 or 8 serpents and the meat lasted long enough for me to have access to better foods in mistlands
Basically everything that isn't from the mountain biome dies fast to frost arrows
lord reto:
I mean he's resistant to all arrows in general so lol
except silver
Comparing fist vs knife.
Knife:
- 2 damage types (pierce & slash)
- fast 3 hit combo (3rd attack deal 2x damage)
- secondary is lunge strike forward with 3x damage
- 6x backstab multiplier
- 1 handed, can be wielded with shield (except Mistlands tier)
Fists:
- mostly slash damage type (except Maulclaws which have pierce & slash)
- 2 hit combo (2nd attack deal 2x damage)
- secondary is kick with knockback and 6x stagger multiplier
- 6x backstab multiplier
- counts as 2 handed, so cannot be wielded with shield (except bare fists).
fists are at least SOMETHING but like.... they are a meme
They're actually climbed quite up on my top favorite weapons to use.
being fun isn't the same as being good
Good is subjective.
if two players with the same skill level cleared the same fuling village, but the other has fists and the other has sword and shield/two handed sword, who will be more efficient
Efficient =/= good.
You can quite safely stagger 1 star berserker with kick or two.
being efficient means being good, less time spent being vulnurable and less time being in combat
no way a kick can stagger a berserker
Easily. 6x stagger multiplier.
Yeah it doesn't though, good is a judgement. Efficient means minimum effort to maximize output.
Fist secondary backstab is 36x base stagger
so wait if i make a new character and waltz on over to a fuling camp, i can just kick a berserker and stagger it?
Not with bare fists, youβd want flesh rippers
Ah, so you haven't used fist weapons I see.
Or Maulclaws now.
ok well you said "fists" and not "fist weapons"
Shortened from fist weapons.
The topic is comparing fist weapons, that's what's continuing to be discussed.
i said fists are a meme
bare fists
and back before fist weapons were in the game
Okay no one was talking about bare fists though, that's where the point got confused.
that means we agree that fists are a meme
Sure?
No it doesn't I for one believe that the bear claws are very useful in the black forest as they can easily parry bears and don't need bronze to make
Bare fist are not a meme either. They just aren't good for more than a greyling
Whattt fist have 2ndary attack? I didnt know
It's the kick.
For a parry enjoyer point of view what would you prefer?
Both
Both is pretty good early on but for some reason all the fist weapons have the same block strength so they aren't good for parrying past the plains
Yeah later fist weapons have quite low block armor even with their 6x parry multiplier, but at least the kick stagger compensates it.
Is there like a map icon for the leviathan. I don't want to sail to ocean trying to find it. It's too risky for a solo player
Nope, there is not. But when you see one you can tag it manually. The ocean is not that dangerous. Atleast when you get to iron age.
I'm still at bronze age. And the elder is on another island. So when I sail to go to the elder I would wanna hit to birds at one go.
Guess I'll just have to sail randomly and go back before night time. I don't I can kill a serpent on my current progress.
SERPENT!!! lol the ocean is terrifying
Youll stop thinking its risky when youll have a bigger boat
Serpents are balanced for black forest progression
I'm also mostly solo. When I sail with carve I usually sail closer to coast than in the open ocean. You can find some routes and small passings from coast to coast like that.
A trick. If you sail with the wind behind you, a serpent usually cannot catch you, giving you plenty of time to kill it with arrows
How do i change draw distance of camera for ship control?
mouse wheel for pc
i need way more for ValheimRAFT ship
How many attacks does a serpent takes to take down the 2nd available boat.
about 15 bites
it gives you plenty of time to kill it
also the second boat is faster than them serpents
π³
You fighting baby serpents or something? One encounter with a serpent on a karve and it turns into a raft for me lol
Karve will last around 7-8 chomps from serpent
Are you fighting the world serpent
Serpents are free food
I was talking about the second boat
ok, the game considers the raft a boat lol
I consider this classism
The raft has rights too
Damn I wish, content for the ocean is a distant dream.
Also yeah they are free food, easy to kill them, but my boat isn't me and I'm not my boat (I don't care about him)
Welp, longship would indeed last around 14-15 bites π
Triple that for the drakkar, and still it barely lasts enough to reach the shores of ashlands
Well, bonemaws have double the serpent dmg on their bite π + ranged attack which does ~70 dmg to drakkar
they arent only coastal
Spinesnap takes care of them π
Not to mention bird attacks and ship-width gaps you need to navigate right after exiting the extremely calm and serene ocean biome
Yeah, they can be pretty much anywhere in the ashlands sea
The transition feels like you jumped down straight into hell
As it should be
Bird attack is nasty because when you fight then, you are much more likely to destroy your ship than kill the bird
Pretty much why your only option is drive forward towards the shore and pray you make it in time
Not really π€ never had to do that
Unless you got a friend then just turn him into a sentry
You can swim to there if you use a longship to crash into a spire.
Let me borrow your luck then, the bonemaw came out as soon as I entered the boiling water and kept chasing me under conditions I stated up above
Happened to me too, and it was not a single bonemaw. Why not kill him?
Boat's not gonna phase through the spires
Then you can slow down and focus on killing him, he will not destroy the boat in the time it takes
No, but the boat will definitely take more damage if you go slower
Not to mention more bonemaws can appear, on top of birds
I didnt say it wouldnt, but it wil not be destroyed
And often not even halfway damaged, not to mention you can just plot workbench on some spire and repair
Pretty irrelevant to kill the bonemaw then
if you go fast enough, the bonemaw usually misses their fireballs
You were complaining about them making you rush to shore xD
Now you are saying they are irelevant
Complaining? Think that's a pretty delusional conclusion
I enjoyed the pre nerf ashlands lmao
Same here π
Playing it now I still feel the immersion I felt the first time but highly reduced due to already knowing mostly everything about the biome
My friend and I stormed an Ashlands fort last night, to great success! Still riding that high as a victorious conqueror
Iβm torn between converting it into a functional base, and βdear lord this biome hurts my eyes!β
I feels too empty upon landing now π₯²
The fact that attacking a fort is easier and calmer than traversing to said fort says a lot about the mob density lol
Oh it was by no means either calm or easy! π
Everyone experiences it differently, I find it trivial to clear out a small compact area of charred rather than an open area where fighting one means the nearby 10 are also attracted
Meanwhile I prefer fighting off a circle of approaching foes with enough time for my eitr to rebuild between each fray
Mage OP plz nerf.
Not squishy if you use the bubble π
Immortality bubble = squishy?
I keep forgetting the bubble
Welp, then you as a mage are squishy xD
Yes πΉ
Then the second boat is a cart
Well, it is not intended to be used for sailing so nope π
Cart is for sailing 100%.
And Battering Ram is the best weapon against sea serpents.
π
tank fight submarine for motherland
I JUST KILL MY FIRST TROLL YEY
Parrying costing no stamina used to be broken, then they made it cost stamina for balance, and it costing no stamina once again is... broken again.
Queen is straight-up easy now.
I hate the queen so much even with that
Welp I got a haul of about 80 flametal and I dont know what to do with it.
I got my zerker axes, the armor fully upgraded
She is so much faster with parry being free and Carapace Buckler randomly giving double adrenaline.
That's why I had 2 trinkets. Proc the minute-long damage buff then swap to Brooch for heals and armor. Swap back every minute if health is good.
Build a cathedral with the flametal gates as the entrance
Nah I already got my doors.
is there a reason why I would wanna upgrade my trollstav?
I dont see a real upgrade tbh π
Battleaxe sucks against her because the windup is still 0.1s too long and you can't get the hit off before she attacks again. But with the damage buff you kill her before Mistwalker even breaks so π€·ββοΈ
You can always try out different flametal weapons for fun lol
I went the battleaxe > berserkir axes this playthrough
The greatsword seems like a fun one next time
I like battleaxes for woodcutting.
I will enjoy them for combat when they shave 0.1s off the initial windup.
Carapace Armor, no cape, with Krom strapped to your back is a look.
Skol and Hati say hello.
But did you have fun? π
Not really. Mainly because of how easy it was.
And I shouldn't have to manufacture my own difficulty π€·ββοΈ
Was thinking something along the lines of two shortswords or two maces rather than a shiv and a sickle lol
Don't like how those things look
Dual wielding bucklers when?
Because you choose to?
No reason, other than durability of the stav.
Damage output of summoned trolls increases by higher blood magic skill level.
Also the limit of 2 stays the same regardless of quality.
I can see the vision
Something similar to captain America's avengers infinity war style could be fun lol
Though that's more like a blend between buckler and fist
Im ok with dual wielding, but I am also annoyed at how certain weapons cannot be used with a single hand
I like my zerker axe, but sometime I prefer the regular axe moveset
Or if I wanna use a shield
You want the regular axe moveset??
Sometime, yes. I cant hit stuff on the floor with zerker axes
Lavaithans had been changed? Last time i remember playing ashlands it was very difficult to mine flametal ore cuz they would sink instantly, now i mined 5 full piles and didnt even one of them started sinking xd
No offense. Just insanely high blocking. Each shield having a separate stagger bar so you can alternate π
They did change it. Its now 1% chance of tickling them per hit rather than whatever it used to be.
That was changed like... a week or two after Ashlands dropped.
daaaamn, really? havent played since then so it now makes sense xd
I wish there was a way to make them sink on purpose tho. These stripped down spires are kind of ugly.
You stopped playing within 10 days of the patch?
Well that's commitment for ya...
They should sink slower but always start on the first hit
Yes, from 10% to 1% chance to start sinking.
-# For me it's 99% chance to sink tho.
personal problems π dont be so harsh on me lol
Can't blame him, I played the beta client version, finished it and am only now replaying ashlands content lol
One random lavaithan should explode rather than sink. That would be funny.
Anyone who disagrees hates fun
lavaithanblob
We played with friends instantly when the ashlands dropped. We didnt even kill Fader cuz.. emm, one of the friends had baby and would rather spend time with newborn than playing some viking game hah
Just teach the baby to play valheim while he's still young
It'll be a hardcore viking when it grows up
But yeah I get you, either way valheim is best taken in moderate doses, a playthrough then a several month break for me
dang it, I need one more bell thing
sadly, he passed away few days after being born...
thats why kinda it brings back bad memories while playing this content

My condolences for the friend
Thank you brother. May Odin bless you for your good soul
quick question before I get myself killed
Is a bronze buckler enough to parry an attack from a draugr elite
should be
battleaxe is supposed to be bad against single target enemies you can't stagger that's why you also carry a spear.
I refuse the believe that.
battleaxes are great against single target
just use the secondary attack, lock them down against the wall
IF that target can be staggered
well yeah
Boss that summons adds, battleaxe is "supposed to be bad."
No. It is just a hair too slow.
I'm leveling up dodge and block like crazy in the swamp
Use something else against bosses and some other enemy types. You'll find that battleaxes are not too good against drakes, for isntance.
nooooo, press the button for battleaxe when adds are summoned, when adds dead, press button for spear
Doesn't work that way. She will always hit you before you get the swing off unless she is doing the bite windup.
it's like i tell you saws are great for cutting trees, and then you're in the kitchen trying to make a peanut butter sandwich and like "this saw keeps cutting my plate in half" i'm like bro
Not even close to an accurate analogy.
He's telling you to not use the battleaxe against the boss and you are arguing back that the battleaxe is too slow against the boss
battleaxe is great for groups and things you can stagger. "it's bad against this solo target i can't stagger"
I used a battle-axe against moder...
Moder is slow so its fine
Battleaxe is 0.1s too slow on initial windup.
Regardless of any context.
I learned to like it
yeah you CAN use it against whatever it's just slow, i'm never using a battleaxe against a lox, seeker soldier, morgen,
There is no other weapon in the entire game that has that problem.
false
Whats wrong with loxes and seeker soldiers?
I kinda understand about the morgen tho
Hammers are slow, but they still get their hits off in time.
they take way too long to die with a battleaxe and i have a spear in my hotbar
I was about to say that soldiers are resistant to pierce but that would have been silly.
Parry, jump and hit at the soldier's butt.
sure, but more better with spear. and if terrain is horrible, parry, jump, throw at butt
I just parry and smack with battleaxe
Yeah. Inside mines the terrain is usually flatter.
Mistwalker conquers all.
If poison didn't suck absolute asscheeks I would like to use Jotun Bane...
alr thx :D
Ps, same reason for Staff of the Wild too. Vines deal damage based on elemental magic skill level, not quality of the staff.
Why does the damage increase then? On the staff
Like when upgrading I can see 20,40,60,80
That's the projectile damage
Ohh okay, didn't know that, ty
Projectile deals that damage, not vines.
But one usually want to depend on the damage of the vines.
Leaving both at quality 1 will save some gems.
More for klossen
Green is for bows.
Unless weβre talking notebooks, in which case green is biology.
Blue is history and red is English/lit
Red is history what you smokin? π
Blasphemy!
Blue science because it's just a standard lab/chemical color.
Red history because all of it pretty much comes down to "who is spilling whose blood?"
Yellow math because I want to pee on it.
Leaving green for english π
Ok I canβt argue with your logic even though itβs faulty. It works for you!
Yellow is maths, on that we can agree
<muscled handshake flex gif here>
We had only blue colored notebooks during my elementary school.
I had only 1 binder, colors above were the tabs for each subject.
Red was german for me and after this statement I'm starting to think it wasn't just a random pick
I need a Surtling trophy to complete my trinket set π
@west pulsar were you the one saying magic needs oompf yesterday?
Depends what you mean by oompf
Well, based on your feedback I am giving it another try out this run.
For full context: I have not made landfall in Ashlands yet.
But Staff of Embers is obliterating seekers and starred soldiers even at zero skill.
EEF food setup. As you said the other day you get only like 6 fireballs off if you shoot continuously, but I am reliably getting to the 8-9 range before fully bottoming out just due to regen during dodging actions and such.
And most every fight is over in that 8-9 range.
Right i meant in ashlands more so what i find is that Ashland staffs are passive
I can use weapons while they automatically do stuff
The only thing I am having to be careful of is because I have the realistic fire turned on, so sometimes the grass lights ablaze and I have to avoid that while dodging.
Fireball is weak in ashlands and ice is single target which ashlands usually throws groups at you
Fireball in mistlands is good
That i agree with
The blunt from the fireball is the main thing for Ashlands. Because 100+ damage in an aoe from range beats most of your other options when arriving.
Frost Staff, even though ST, would be better if it had accuracy tied to skill level. Because being able to reliably alternate targets in a group would be just fine. But the randomness of it makes it bad.
Out of the mistland weapons yes
Fire staff is fantastic in Ashlands π
This was the debate yesteray @light moat
Numbers-wise it is very good, but feel-wise Loafy does not see it.
Which is valid.
Personally, I like the staff of the wild the best for the Ashlands
Wild is beyond busted
Because i can stack it with weapons
I was having a harder time with fireball
Also it's hit rate just isnt there
Fair! When I did my Eitr playthrough, fireball staff was my primary weapon. Ice staff offered great support, especially against the warriors.
Staff of wilds was alright I guess, but it wasnβt for me. The lightning thing I didnβt like.
Wild and Embers have equivalent Blunt damage, so the comparison really comes down to 10% root chance vs. fire damage, since they are immune to poison.
Fireball staff's blunt was good for the skeletons, frost staff was good for the vultures, dundr was good for the morgens, wild just turned the biome into meadows for me
That and i dont have to use my staff for it to work
It just does it while im doing other things
Fireball is active wild is passive
And i can have 4
Its wild x 4
Dunno if the wild staff was touched at all since the beta client but back then no matter what I fought, a few vines on the ground and I just watch everything in front of me die while sipping my drink
- my weapons
Literally and if i need too i can put in a couple hundred damage with axes and boom
Crossbow even
Um... you do have to shoot Wild projectile so idk how you're thinking you don't have to use the weapon?
4 times per fight then you switch it
Vs having to hold and use it constantly
My problem was that I didn't even need to do anything, the vines alone just melted everything that didn't fly in the air lol
Exactly
I mean... Embers does more damage vs. Wild having the summons.
It really is a preference thing. π€·ββοΈ
First time using it made me feel like I just didn't really need any of the other ones, but they were nifty so why not
I find in practical gameplay it doesn't actually
Define "practical gameplay" lol.
4 roots hitting a guy is 280 damage while im using weapons
I mean in the sense of in theory numbers vs it actually being used
I find the fire staff takes longer in my experience
It just does
I would rephrase your rebuttal from "practical gameplay" to:
I find with my playstyle that Wild does more damage.
Because fireball is the Only source of damage root is something i add it what im doing
Will take wild over ember any day, don't have to aim at all with the former, just plant a bunch of roots and stand inbetween them waiting for the cute little skeletons to come walk up to me
Then if I'm out of juice I can't hit
That and getting hit in melee is almost impossible if you're next to a root
But a fireball staff is like a bow with aoe and less shots
I'm not saying one is better than the other. That is my entire point.
Fully understand for certain ways of playing one fits better than the other.
Just trying to get you to see the other perspectives while still validating your opinion.
I get the perspective i just find when i play those either styles they just dont work as well
For whatever reason
Playstyle is the reason π Not everything is going to flow the same way because every individual has a different brain.
I guess
It's like when knife people try to use atgiers π
I found staff of fracturing (not the dundr) to do significantly more damage than embers to big enemies.
Direct hit on a troll will 2 shot it.
I like it since i prefer a 2 handed sword for critters anyway
My bow just hits over 100 damage
And it shoots faster and if im sneaking my crossbow deletes shit
It's only good if you are good at aiming which i am not
Its damage is good i just find missing is punishing
Can't say staff of the wild requires much brainpower though lol
Fracturing is the ST fire in contrast to the AoE...
So where is my AoE Frost? π
Monkey place root monkey watch things die
It is
I use it at quite low range
My ass just uses the thunder axe leap
Fracturing staff is actually one of my personal favorites. It ramps up the fire damage much higher than Ember when you get all the clusters hit the same target.
I should note my skills are probably higher than average
I only have one character so my skills are leveled
Do you even game "bruh"? π π
No im bad with abbreviations
Nah, its not single target
Its a cluster grenade
So you need a big hitbox for full damage
Its practically useless against fulings lol
Elite reference
Charred eat it if you barrel stuff
The trick is to aim bit lower, like at feet, to get the clusters hit better at smaller targets too.
If you turn on realistic fire... Embers is really good for woodcutting π
Is there an in-game screenshot button?
If youre on steam theres f12, the closest youll get
Dont know what its like on xbox though sorry
π
iirc, it's xbox button + select button
nvm, it's the xbox button + Y
win+shift+s is my go-to
so what's the weirdest enclosure you guys have built to cover a crafting station?
my friend made an absolute masterpiece while she was sleep deprived yesterday
Print screen is the way for me π
what if I have a skill issue in finding that
Haha it should be by the numpad, usually "prt sc"
winshifts is nice and accessible for my small paws
At what point can you block a 2* troll with a log? Ive only got Troll Armor/Bronze Buckler, its death right?
Correct, I believe you'll want at least maxed out iron and top tier swamp food.
Figured it wouldn't be any time soon, I'll mark him for another day π
Might tell my kids its a 0* with a log and send them in, just to hear my daughter scream π
Also when blocking, does your armor help affect blocking, or purely, shield/food?
An ogre and a bear attacked me, and I only had a measly level 2 bow to defend myself... π₯²
Last I checked the damage is first funelled into your shield block armour, the remaining damage is then funneled into your armour, and you then take the remainder left as raw damage.
Someone smarter can explain it though as I'm new.
Food plays a part too right, like the more hp you have, the more it takes to stagger? I think? I have no clue!
HP is the most important stat for blocking/parry, though. Your pretty much spot on as far as damage goes.
Cheers all π
I still haven't found Haldor. Can't be overly angry, though. I've found good mountains, swamps and plains for my future explorations. Plus I've found the other two traders. So I was finally able to empty out two wood chests by turning everything into gold coin.
Armor will reduce the damage you take but not affect what attacks you can parry safely
So upgrading the bronze buckler, doesnt improve what I can parry?
The buckler will, not the armor you wear
Yeah, shield effect block and parry, armor reduces damage you take, after it gets through your shield.
Or any surprise hit you take.
It was the last thing I found on this run, and I had to start circling the globe in a boat, getting wider.
Yeah, thats what I have been doing. I've gone far enough to the East, so now I am looking to the west of my spawn area.
I found the other two to the south, so I will be going around to my north as well.
Another thing thats irritating me. With all this sailing, zero serpents. I should have ran into at least a dozen by now. So RNG is really hating me.
get a load of this Zaph guy, thinking valheim is a "globe"
Surely valheim is round.. π₯Ή
I've flown off the map for 30 mins, the seafloor keeps going then turns to lava, can't prove its either
i want to build a fairly big castle main base but will the instance count lag the game? my current very small base is already at 3500 but not lagging at all
This round's going very well, day 6 Elder kill, Haldor found, Karve & find a swamp time
Hey any one know about the water dragon and how to avoid him
Remove whatever mod added a water dragon?
If you have a karve and a bow and arrow you can probably kill it before it destroys the boat
Otherwise, just turn to go with the wind until it loses interest. They will always stop following after some time, especially if you head for land
They do also only spawn at night and during storms
Ok I went in the day and a damn storm came it's just spawn camping my loot now -_-
Wood is like... exclusively for accents once I get the ability to build with stone and marble.
So seeing wood floors/walls with a Black Forge is jarring to me π
well thats only my plains base which is mostly stone on the outside
Colour me surprised coming back to Valheim after going dark for a long while without so much as looking at the update news and I find that bears have been added
Bout crapped myself mining copper and then a mountain of fur charges out of the trees at me
Does a MaeMoo crap in the wood?
Possibly
If you do not know that they added bears they can definitely be super scary, once you know how to fight them tho, piece of cake
Torch in off-hand makes them harmless pretty much π
I straight up fight my first 2 bears with a wooden shield and a flint axe now, then I make the Bear Paws and easy peasy
I was able to hop on top of the tomb and pelt it with fire arrows
Took a while but eventually got it and got some pelts and meat
The bear meat is ok early game food.
40 extra health is always nice
Yep, basically minced meat sauce that Is easier to aquire but with but lower HP regen π
And 5 min shorter duration.
And that is sadly the only use for it.
Currently yes. It can be prior to change in or post 1.0.
Hopefully soon we get a stew or something to make with it
Hear me out. I was in a brewery festival and they had bear sausage there.
Oh that sounds good
Was it good?
Oh yes! Now we need it ingame too. It just that what biome should unlock it π
have they done anything to the deep north biomes generation or content in the last updates?
or since launch at all
With all the new trinkets I hope we get some more inventory soon
Is iron armor worth it? Or will I survive using troll set up to getting the fenrir armor?
There could possibly be some room for new food using bear meat in plains.
Since there is ||undead bear||.
upgraded troll is more then enough imo. on normal combat.
It depends on your own skills. There are experienced folks that use light armor up till mountains. You can also mix some heavy and light: helmets don't have ms penalty.
I honestly thought it would be enough. But I might suffer on swamp specially on pits.
Ohhh yeah that would help. Ironhelm since i dont wear full troll
i think helm is great to get, as it does not nerf speed
but if your troll armor is low lvl, i'd get iron lvl 1 at least.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZuyElPXZIE callback to this insane fight. i wonder if queen regenerated one full healthbar during the fight.
asmon at mistlands launch
IRONGATE, ADD CHARGING SHIELD AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!
I went to the Mountains with Bear armor and had no problems, it depends on what you like and how well you can dodge and/or parry attacks from different mobs
Always upgrade your armor and weapons to the max lvl
noooooooo
I went like this ||Bear Set-Vilebone Set-Carapace (Mistlands needs one more armor set)||
Never had the issue of getting one shot?
You like dying I guess lol
With the iron buckler I was fine and even if I got hit I could still take the damage with 2 hp foods, I had tier 4 Bear armor because I went and mined a bit of obsidian earlier to get workbench tier 5
True, Mistlands needs a light armor
on normal combat, maxing gear is both tedius, and makes the game too easy.
Well if you like hard gameplay you can run around naked
For new players maxing out their gear is a must to be able to survive easier
what is the most common interact button in games, E or F?
Yep fully maxxed bronze or partially upgraded leather armour makes parrying more doable and also lets you survive longer in blackwoods by a lot.
doesnt look like it from looking at the keybind settings.
I always go light armor sets now up until the Mistlands because I do not like the movespeed penalty of - 10%. But if you max out any gear you have an easier time in general
i dont use them but maybe via the console, @vernal karma
Typically you never fully upgrade leather because you can get troll hide or bear hide armors now
Vilebone chest and loincloth and heavy helmet was my go to during Mistlands and venturing into Ashlands by boat in my last playthrough.
Vilebone chest, vilebone legs and padded helmet is what I use as well for Mistlands now. Solid armor with 0% movespeed penalty
How do you guys carry out weapons on a usual run like exploring the map? Do you carry like multiple weapons or just bow and weapons that you need for the biome plus buckler/shield?
Weapon, shield (if aplicable), bow. Thats it for weapons pretty much for me
Buckler and axe for most things. Bow for trolls with logs and other big nasties you cannot melee easily.
Trolls with logs arenβt much stronger than trolls without logs
Longer range is the biggest thing, isn't it? A little bit harder to dance around them, and if you screw up it hurts..
I usually bring my oh-shit-stick (Atgeir) along with sword, shield and bow. I use the sword for most mobs, I used to bring a club too for golems but now I just whack them with the sword and let it take a bit more time. But the atgeir is too good an emergency tool to leave at home. Has saved my life countless times when I've aggroed too many lox/fulings/deathsquitos or gangs of seekers...
Yep 100% this and early in the game they'll break through 90% of your hp/gear, especially if you have greydwarfs harassing you.
Fire arrows or basic arrows safely kill log trolls without effort. Just hit them then run away and repeat for 20 seconds.
I only have bear fist, bronze atgeir and finewood bow. Looking to progress to Iron age and get my first sword and buckler. I can still survive a couple of troll and bear hits with lvl3troll set and lvl3deer cape. Omw to kill the elder and start on the swamp to farm iron. Hopefully wont encounter any 2star mobs
You seem well prepared for 2-stars
I Hope so. Because last time I checked I got swarmed by greydwarfs and got oneshot by 2* brute loool
Have you got good food?
Yeah Deer stew, carrot soup and boar jerky
He said good food π€
I'm new and haven't progress far from the game. Casually progressing from black forest to swamp
That's "good" for my current progress.
Both jerkies are terrible, so no.
So whats the best one for black forest
You could swap it for bear meat or queen's jam
Best is subjecthive.
This comment doesnt "help" at all
HHS - swap it for Minced Meat or Bear.
HSS - swap it for Jam.
I'm sorry, I'll respond inaccurately from now on because being precise is apparently unhelpful...
It's almost like the correct answer is that best is subjecthive, and that I provided all options so you could make your own decision.
@nocturne wolf
the advice that is lacking here is if you maximize your hp with food you likely can parry a large mob or a 2 star small mob. if you find yourself attacking with your atgier offensively and need more stamina, what you currently are using is pretty good
OR i guess if you find yourself getting 1shot, you want more hp. you're currently splitting hp and stam 50/50
Bloody hell πππ, was sailing close to the plains and some ghost attack and killed me. And I'm still in Black Forest level of the game πππ
Had to share my ingame pain π π π€£
do someone know a seed with a ton of marble (a lot of Mistlands) ?
any seed should do, just travel mainly east or west
doesnt all mistlands have a ton of marble
show us your seed map
Assloads of marble.
tbh i hate the mistlands
Ok but hear me out: Black Marble. π
there should be enough black marble on any given seed to build 15 castles a few grand pyramids and still more than you would know what to do with
Disassembling the dverger structures is a lot faster than trying to mine it tbh.
grausten > black marble
agreed
oH gods first two-star seeker this playthrough, I was not prepared for that. He scared me out of my wits
That angry red hue, damned helspawn
Grausten roof corners can burn in hell
Both starred seekers look amazing with their color highlights tbh.
They look good, but they're scary
Only inside tiny infested mine corridors
In any larger rooms or somewhere outside they're much safer
Open door to see a purple seeker with an army of green ticks behind him π
Or flying at you out of the mist while low on food and with your back to the ocean
Creative dodge rolling solved it this time, but he had buddies so one staggering hit would have been fatal
you're not building gothic enough
you just have to embrace a wildly ornate and resource wasteful style.
but yeah, planning grausten roofs is paramount to success.
hello does someone have a command to tp plz
goto <coordinate> <coordinate>
thanks you
i found 3 elder locations before even leaving the starting island
i posted the map in #screenshots I have never had so many locations so close tot he starting island
spawn a fish then use the forcedelete command, it makes a bird death effect
yo ,when is the deep north planned to be released?
We dont know π but not this year
Oh..
Nice π now find the last one
I hate that bonemass has such a hard soundtrack for such a mid boss
Yes
Yep π the number of boss locations goes 3, 4, 5, 3, 4, 5, 5
I still dunno why moder only has 3
Eik has 3, Elder 4, Bonemass 5, Moder 3, Yag 4, Queen 5 and Fader also 5
Sometimes i find mistlands before moder
Eik having 3 always feels pointless because ones always close and the other 2 and just far
Or you get all 3 on top of each other
Elder 4 is perfect
Bonemass 5 feels overkill i find bonemass too quick
Moder needs 4
Yag could be at 5 tbh
Queen and fader have 5
Which is fine
I have hildir bog witch and bonemass within like
They're RIGHT next to each other
I've found mistlands while looking for elder before lol
Rng
Ik could be at one to be perfectly honest
Also the soundtrack before you fight the queen is perfect
Idk why more music doesn't give that world ending despair vibe
That is why you have Yag as plains boss π
Well i didn t found him ,found queen randomly..
i explored the mist relying on the fenrir set
to move fast if encounter danger
Sensible tactic π
I had no idea there were more bonemass locations but I did know the Moder locations were only 3. I am surprised that Yagluth has 5 considering how hard his altar can be to find sometimes
Yag has 4 π
Interesting
yag is only hard to find because there are more boss altars than vegvisirs to his boss altars in most seeds
hello, I'm looking to play with people since I have like 200h on the game but I've only played solo but I don't know where to ask ?
I thought about a discussion we had about shields recently
About how medium shields are kind of useless
Turns out I know what they are for: if you somehow want better blocking without having a tower shield to slow you down as much.
I found some functionality on the spawn command that allows you to change certain variables on objects spawned.
Here's a fun command to try: spawn fish1 20 0 1 Fish.m_speed::200.0
Has this been documented anywhere already? The in-game description of the command doesn't mention it.
Those are some speedy boys xD
I wonder how effective it would be to make a larger scale farm specifically for Obliterating it into coal. π€
probably less effecting than replanting trees
according to the wiki, it takes 10 "generic" items to get one coal
Even with the extra free items with farming now?
yeah im pretty sure
Every tree you plant gives you what, 20+ wood? Thats 20+ coal in the kiln
oh dang fader is immune to spirit?
If you need 10 crops per coal, thatβs a pretty big difference. Sure, you donβt have to wait for the coal to cook, but if you fill a bunch of kilns with wood then sleep, no waiting.
But takes poison damage.
I suppose it could depend on how long it takes trees to grow, but I doubt itβs that much longer than a crop
time to make ashfang
So you're saying it's a matter of scale and there's a breakpoint ππ
The same scale you do to one, you could do to the other. So no, itβs not a matter of scale
Plants have the guaranteed seed drop though, trees do not.
I donβt think Iβve ever not gotten seeds when chopping wood
spawn deer 1 0 1 AnimalAI.m_jumpInterval::0.01
You can do this with other creatures but most will use the MonsterAI component instead of AnimalAI
If he wasn't he would damage himself with fissure
any chance you might be able to figure out how to spawn trees of different sizes with the spawn commands?
i cant grow plains birch trees and the default ones are to big
if i plant them i get the size i want with some rng, but wrong colour leaves.
Here's another fun one spawn hatchling 1 0 1 Humanoid.m_flying::false
This point I didn't actually think of when I wondered why.
I'll look into it now
thank you so much
I don't think I can. The command does check for a vector3 value which would work for scale but only if the first value isn't a number so it's never possible. For example if I tried spawn birch2_aut 1 0 1 Transform.localScale::0.1::0.1::0.1 it would find that first 0.1 that I've put in bold and then ignore the rest so you don't get a valid scale.

thx
aww man...
thank you anyway. maybe ill figure it out if i mess with the syntax idk...
its a lot closer than anything i came up with on my own
This also works with multiple values
spawn deer 1 0 1 Character.m_runSpeed::0.0 Character.m_runTurnSpeed::0.0
So bread and onion soup are the only 100% crop-farmed, no foraging recipes in the game. Interesting.
Is there any way to add stats to Hildir's outfits yet? Or a glam system to make your armor look like her outfits? Outside of mods?
No, there is no vanilla way to make armor look like others aka cosmetic.
They have really good stats?
Most of them decrease all stamina used when building/crafting so they are great base clothes.
Farmer set is insane with the +50 because it raises your chance for extra yields by like 7% iirc.
@tacit crystal Bows aside -- how much do you think it would break the game if the skill bonus armors/trinkets allowed you to exceed the 100 mark?
Do they? Last time I played, they had just came out ans where stateless or very low/poor stats.
Yeah, everything outside of the farming set reduces the stamina cost for using the hammer and hoe.
Farming one is as described.
You mean like: skill lvl 100, Root armor set +15 and wolf trinket +20 exceeding the 100 limit to 135 skill level?
Yes but not talking about bows currently because they are a separate issue.
Thank you.
Well, one example.
But maybe quite broken.
For bows it 100% would be, which is why that is a separate issue.
Skills that can get extra levels currently are clubs, spears, bows, both magic skills, run, dodge and farming IIRC.
How?
Fixed my sentence, as my brain didn't brain.
Also I need a wiki person because I have a beef with page setup for the skills you mentioned.
Clubs and spears are trinket procs, correct?
Just thinking how the damage would scale up if skills could exceed the 100 limit. Maybe increasing the lowest possible number but not the highest I would assume.
forgot sneak
from troll armor
Yep, those were out of memory but forgot sneak.
Also magic skills from JΓΆrmundling and bows from same as spears.
And dodge is from evasion mantle.
That is exactly what I am looking at.
Becaue max drops off at 75+, but min scales only to 85%.
If you let the trinket exceed the skill mark, min scales up to 97%, making your attacks 12% more consistent in their damage, while also further reducing stamina cost by an additional 6.666%.
I really wish knockback didn't scale with skill though.
I found a way to fix the bow "issue" if skill exceeds are allowed.
TO THE MUTED SUGGESTIONS CHANNEL I GO!
xenomorph in valheim when?
@tacit crystal is the stamina reduction actually 33.000% or is it 33.3333%?
its actually 33.33333% with a margin of error of 0 to 0.00000333333333333333%
π
any ideas on what to do while my friend does the mountain base
cuz we got a base for every biome and i wanna build smt
but idk what to buidl
and where
You could ask in building channels or look up for ideas, like https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202303747053846608 or https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202264206628630548. π
bro, my world is scuffed. theres no copper lol
Where are you going to look for it?
black forest
They are in the middle of the black forest, and are almost indistinguishable from regular boulders stuck in the floor
im just making another world. ive checked every rock here and nothing
@tacit crystal post is made with all relevant details and ready for review.,
I dont get the bow "going too far" thing
Bows are already machine guns like lvl 70...
anyone got a world with copper deposits i can mine? lol
yeah, attack speed for bow caps at 85
I bet you got it π
Where is that listed?
in the bow entry on the wiki
Effects
Higher skill level in bows reduces the stamina cost to attack down to -33%, increases damage and knockback up to +141% and reduce draw time up to -80%.
For the details of damage scaling, see Damage mechanics#Skill factor.
Leveling up
The player gains 1.5xp per arrow when hitting a creature.
You are reading the bow skill entry
Why the actual PHAWK is something pertinent to the SKILL NOT ON THE SKILL ENTRY???
"Bows have 2.5 seconds of draw time at skill level 0, which decreases to a draw time of 0.5 seconds by level 100. However, the bow can only be fired every 0.8 seconds, which can be reached at skill level 85. "
As for the skill bonuses for farming dodging, and the likes. I believe these skills are not expected to reach 100, or even anything close to it. If you reach a point where the trinkets bonuses are partially lost because of your insane skill levels, well, it should be regarded as an acheivement.
Honestly, I believe the same for blood magic. The little I played with it made me notice how slow it was to level up. Also quite awkward.
Personally, I would be more in favor of simply changing these trinket skill bonuses for outright modifiers, like bonus damage or stamina use reductions.
If you don't like it, downvote it. π€·ββοΈ
Im ambivalent toward it.
Trinket overhaulness suggestion write up is in the works but taking longer.
However it does include keeping the skill increases at this time.
Argh, first death in 500 days..dangit. Got complacent around growths, that can get ugly real fast
And just because you are not expected to reach something, it should still be accounted for.
Today I died because a two star seeker said hello.
I absolutely hate how starred enemies scale in this game.
+100% of lvl1 hp and +50% of lvl1 dmg?
How would you change it?
Ive been thinking about it, and I have no clear answers.
I was thinking, maybe reduce the damage, but increase other things such as its aggressivity (sight range and persistence) and overall speed?
What do you hate about it now? The damage scaling with valheim's armor?
I was also thinking, maybe apply the damage buff after armor but I dont know if the game engine supports that.
Mostly, yeah. You read that two stars enemies does twice the amount of damage, but in my experience that is not true. They do something like ten time the damage.
That shouldn't be too hard to change, or multiplying armor against them would have the same effect
Take a charred warrior. When one hits me, its about 20 damage. Two star warrior... well its been a while one hit me because I refuse to come close to these guys, but I recall them one shotting me while I had 200 health or more.
But recently, it was a seeker. They do about 10 damage to me. But its a red one, about 80 damage.
As we all know, 80 is two time 10. :V
Anyway its been a long time complain from me. I never liked that.
The other thing I have with it is that I dont think it makes the game more interesting.
They dont do anything special or different, they just suddenly hit WAY harder than you'd expect.
and saying this just cuz im half-reading this conversation while playing and just happened upon a 2 star tree troll on hard difficulty, it's not difficult, it's just long. like i just dodged a bunch but after the initial jump scare it's just dodge againnnn.... dodge againnnnnn......
I'd prefer for starred enemies to have less health than any changes to their damage, some take too long to kill
yeah, the damage is fine but it's just LONG.
Has anyone ever been flung across the map by a vulture before?
My son sailed due south on a raft, his raft broke when he entered ashlands water, but was managing to rockhop / swim to shore, when a Vulture attacked him, right as it attacked he jumped, and he got flung off the world π
The volture attack has 0% movespeed (so the vulture couldn't have pushed him) and only 5 knockback, the lowest of any attack above 0 and only tied with bats.
i'm not sure how that could've happened
He jumped as Vulture attacked, he went from entering Ashlands, to flying thru the air, and falling off the edge of the world. He only had Rag Tunic on, it was funny to watch tho π I'd never encountered anything like it before
Im guessing just a freak incident that can not be replicated
(We have no mods either, so couldnt be anything like that)
What's the comfort range on the hot tub?
K. My room is currently at 13 so just wanted to make sure it was counting.
-1 from brazier over hearth
-1 from marble table over darkwood
-1 from darkwood chair over throne
-1 from ash bed over dragon
But I do like the way it looks.
Never forget
Already did π
There is a brazier that gives a higher CL than the hearth?
?
Hearth is 2 and all other fires are 1 afaik
OK, just wondering why you said the brazier was over the hearth.
Because I chose the brazier over choosing the hearth.
Ah. So your not talking CL, just looks.
That list is all the points I lose by choosing x over y.
OK, that makes much more sense.
Because I'm fitting the room into the defined 8 diameter space, yeah.
Which is technically more of a 6.5 diameter space due to the stairs cutting into it.
I just center CL around my hearth/central fire, so I have an area to give me max CL before I head out. So when I make a bedroom, I just make it a loft near my central fire. But not so close as to get smoked to death. π
Did a whole post yesterday on how to exactly replicate the sunken stone structures you find in the swamp/mountain.
Allowing you to build towers on top of them or just of the same design.
So now I am playing around with what kinds of things you can put in their confined space.
Bedroom and Galdr fit easily.
Black Forge probably does.
Idk about Forge/Workbench though given the amount of upgrades.
I only do basements on shared servers. Then hide the entrance, as an additional measure for less than honest players that may be on said servers.
The wide foundations with stairs down into the water, or the ruined tower with dvergr spawner in them? When we went for Bonemass on my first server we turned one such tower located close to his arena into a portal base. I added a couple of floors of stone and then made my first ever effort at a round roof. Looked shit, but at least it provided shelter enough to keep the fire dry...
Stairs down into water or stairs down into mountain. Both are the same structure.
Oh, swamp/mountain there's my answer. Duh, sorry.
Figured out how to exactly replicate including the stairs.
Which means you can build them with marble now π
Nice! I turned one of those in the mountains into my portal hub. Very artistic design with open arches and a dome-shaped roof - that turned out to be pretty stupidly designed since drakes could see the portals and bombarded it constantly. Grew tired of repairing it so I sealed the arches eventually
I spent this afternoon hauling silver down a mountain and sprinting back up again
Looking forward to getting building again
Now you can turn it into a full-on tower by keeping the design going up floor by floor π
I did this until they added stone portal to the game and gave us all a giant π for the manual work we put in on non-portalable items...
So now I just play with unrestricted portals if they are going to be like that. π€·ββοΈ
Tallest tower I ever built used a pine tree as anchor. The base was on top of a troll cave at sea level, the roof had snow on it. Great success! (Also 4-5 deaths during building, built while still in iron age...)
Mountain circles are already like 20m deep and you can dig further.
So if you put a tower on top of that π
I went the other way, I'm playing no-portals until I get to Ashlands, then I'll turn it off but pretend stone portals are the ONLY portals, and that I can only have one outside Ashlands
But I will NOT subject myself to repeatedly sailing stuff in and out of Ashlands in the drakkar. No way. If they make the thing a wee bit more manouverable, maybe. But it's like trying to steer a lump of cement as is.
Or, and hear me out: Remove the pointless spires or remove 90% of them.
Water Temp++ so that only the Drakkar can make it, Spires-- because they don't add anything.
I think they're pretty cool visually, but the combo of making the approach a labyrinth with forcing us to use a ship with a turn radius like the orbit of Jupiter...not great.
I actually stopped and used a spire some 100 meters from the shore and built a platform, so I could get a portal up before I tried storming the beach. Then coastal bombardment with spine snap, managed to take out every spawner in render distance, after that the beach was fairly easy to take...
This time I won't be able to do that, so...ugh. Guess I'll have to be brave.
That's amazing, I'd love to see any screenshots if you finish one up π€
Would that technically be the largest vertical structure without commands/mods?
If you send your kids to storm the beach they die heroicly while Dad builds a quick base with materials on boat, then they can portal back and get their stuff. They were excellent sacrifices π
Havnt played in a few months until yesterday, did they make dungeons rarer
I swear they were everywhere when i first played
Now ive only found one so far
Although it at least had 5 cores
They have not. It all depends on seed rng.
There are several different entrances for burial chambers accompanied with 3 skeletons nearby each entrance. So skeletons is one possible way to tell there is one close.
-# Note that some stone ruins also contain skeletons.
All i found were stone ruins
It took hours before huginn showed up
It's also seed rng dependant, like Sevrahn mentioned above. Some worlds might have plenty in nearby forests and some less.
Maybe i shouldve kept my first world
This world the black forest happened to be closer to where i set up base but i had to walk way further to find any dungeons
In my current world I only had 5 Tombs in the 3 closest BF's. With 7 cores, total. It got far better the further out I went.
Well I found 2
But it turns out i went in a circle
If i went the opposite direction from where i started traveling, i wouldve immediately found more tombs
Yep found a 3rd one when trying to head back home
Or 4th one i should say
Once he pops up for a Burial Chamber, dont talk to him, it allows you to run thru the forest, and whenever you see him pop up, its like, oh hey another one π
Oh ill to reset him and try that
Resetting him resets everything tho π
Is Armor Stand Iron? (dont think im missing anything from Meadows/BF)
Yes, it requires iron nails.
Also, when crafting bronze, theres a chance to proc a bonus right?
So, are the odds for crafting 5 the same as crafting 5 singles?
Recommend using the single bronze recipe instead of that produces 5x.
You can hold shift to craft 5x in one click.
Each of those 5x have chance to proc bonus.
No crafting 25 bronze in one click?
Crafting 25 bronze with the 1x recipe have more chances to proc extra. π°
Does 5x proc give 5 or one? (Not 5x single crafts)
To easen confusion: using the recipe for 5x counts as one craft, crafting 5 individually counts as 5 crafts.
More crafts = more chances to proc extras.
Yes, but if craft 5x as the one craft, does it proc 5 extra or 1 π
With shift click, all them 5 crafts have chance to proc.
Okay, so no gambling allowed on bronze then π
Sorry, did miss the question a bit. But yeah the extra is always 1.
All good, thanks for help π
Its a bit silly when you can get something like an extra nidhogg, which is treated the same as an extra wood arrow
That era was fun as long as it lasted lol.
Getting 1x extra arrow would frustrate me, cos then my 5x crafts would be more than 100
It is currently what it is. Something to be addressed possibly post 1.0.
I always get +1 bronze or iron nails it seems
I wish that resting regen buffs scaled with comfort level a bit, I always lose 2-5 max health/stamina to food timers just waiting for it to regen fully before heading out.
The wonderous imaginitive gangster
I've always thought, Parrying projectiles, shouldn't stagger, whats everyones opinion?
To me it doesnt make sense. You parry the arrow 10m away then monster staggered
Why should parrying a ranged attack be less rewarding?
My immersion π
Willing suspension of disbelief
I could see that as a valid reason. Blocking an arrow headed for your head could leave the shooter confused/staggered
maybe you PWING it back and it bounces off their forehead?
This discussion again?
The entire reason we can parry arrows is because its really funny that we can.
Very early devs removed that but added it back bit later after some people's feedback and because they also found it funny in the end.
Simple as that.
will call to arms update break saves made before it?
No, you can use old saves with no problems, you will even find new creatures in already explored areas.
I wish they would remove it once more
Hey is it too close to the swamp if a wraith comes after you while you're building your roof?
Not if they can't kill you. Free chain delivery is a good thing.
So on scale 1 to 10 how good is frostner in the swamp?
Depends.
Blunt damage good vs. Blob.
Spirit damage good vs. Draugr.
Everything else pretty much neutral to it.
You're not supposed to have it yet, so it is inherently more powerful than any swamp weapon.
If that sounds good to you - 10.
abomb resists blunt and is immune to spirit
Bronze axe vs abom it is
immune to chop too
There are iron axes?
abom definitely isn't immune to chop
Very. It's wrong.
Axes are the best thing to hunt them with, since fire goes out almost instantly in the wet swamp conditions
I use the bonfire, and surtling spawners really F it up
the best is to perfect parry them when they stand on a surtling spawner, they will melt from the increased damage and its one of the most satisfying valheim things
also sword and parry is better than axe
yeah says they are neutral to slash, baxe maybe
I'd go for sword over axe
also I know about aboms because its from the swamp, people on my server still call me swampdweller because my main base is still in swamp even though we are in Mistlands now lol
I mean making cozy swamp base up in the trees is actually quite fun @tepid prawn
If you want cozy, yes.
If you want metal af, have the bonemass skull as the centerpiece of your build π€ πββοΈ
Hello?
Iβve come across an odd predicament in my Valheim world πΏ
Not anything confusing (I hope) just odd
184 days and still no Haldor. I found the third Elder altar, with no help from markers, before finding Haldor. I'm getting tempted to use that seed viewer to find out where he is.
Sailing along BF coasts is what usually gets me decent success
Ashlands landfall completed and stone portal established. A good place to end the night.
O7
what is the problem
I'm doing that and running in land to ensure his spawn site isn't closer to the center.
axe does slash damage to abomination, not chop
do tames starve to death if you dont feed them ?
No, feeding is just for breeding them and increasing their health regeneration
However, not feeding your pets is animal abuse, so feed them, also, remember, "The Bees Are Happy"
I'm so close to Blocking a 2* troll with a log - Bronze Buckler/Troll Armor, I can stagger his attack, but he staggers me, does this mean I need more hp food?
More health or more armor, this means youβre only being staggered by the remaining damage after blocking
Okay, maybe I'll try again with 3 Health Food on, only had 2 health 1 stam
Does the Himminafl secondary stagger as well as the black metal one? Seeing as the pierce part of the damage total is much less I'm worried it is actually weaker, or does the lightning bit also stagger?
Lightning adds stagger.
Awesome. That thing gobbles up a lot of eitr, wanted to make sure.
Yeah, lightning is only elemental damage type that adds to stagger, others don't.
And yep, it's very refined eitr hungry, but worth it.
Ugh, down to one eitr, need to find moar skulls
is there a reason tamed animals seem to crowd corners?
Simply that mob pathing is generally so-so. Building a circular pen makes them roam better.
I think they want to walk in a certain direction before randomly picking another. This direction does not take built structures into consideration, only the natural terrain. So they will continue walking into a corner until rng makes them turn away from it. You see this very clearly if you push them backwards.
ah, makes sense, thank you
This had me thinking, maybe building a labyrinth around your base would confuse mobs enough that they can't get to the valuable parts before the raid is over? Or they simply get annoyed and smash their way through anyway..
Angry mobs seem to navigate a lot better as well
Also, tamed boars (that were wild before) have their own anchor points in locations they spawned in, meaning they try to return there even after being tamed. But this same anchor point is not there with their offsprings.
are lox the same way?
No, this behaviour is apparently only with boars out of all tames.
Same behaviour can be noticed with deers, after they have ran some time they run back at their prior location.
But they can get very far if something is chasing them. Seen a deer out in the ocean with a lox swimming after it, far from closest plains/forest.
ive never caught more than one chicken in the middle of my chicken coup at a time
usually all of them are hugging the fences
Yes, but when there is only player who chases they return after some time. Except if the player goes far enough that they are not inside the active zone anymore.
tamed askvins, much like a liquid, have a tendency of filling the container they are in
I guess just unlucky:(
They just train hard some acrobatics to get to perform in circus some day. πͺ
Just fought off my first two fenrings. Great idea mining silver by the moonlight π
It'd be neat that if they touched a silver node they'd burn like it were a campfire.
Ya that would be cool
OH DEAR GODS THE STUPIDITY. I hopped on my longship and started ctrl+clicking to deposit my stuff in the hold - was in a hurry so managed to skip a pretty essential step - opening the hold. Yeah, I tossed 60 soft tissue into deep water before realising. Craptastic... π€¦π½ββοΈ
Deep enough to disappear instantly, no use building a ramp to jump for them, they're just gone. VERY tempted to spawn them back.
I would spawn them back at that point
yeah, I think it's fair to, despite it being perfectly avoidable
Ashlands ambience music
gotta be my favourite lofi music
I still gotta give the devs and composers claps for creating ashlands
my first time landing there give me such a different vibe like its no longer valheim but something beyond that
^Ashlands ocean theme.
Heavenly
fun fact, listening to it rn
its that good
favourite background noise whilst doing work
bruh media perms
perks of being a helper and just being cool
thats cool

I've often wondered if there is any in-game hint or clue for Haldor's existence. Like a runestone or something. If you never looked at on-line discussions or the wiki how would you even know to search for him? Seems like many playthroughs would never find or benefit from any of the vendor content.
Hugin will mention traders once you reach black forest iirc π
Day 101 and we havenβt found any vendor. Iβve sailed around several islands mapping the coast lands Iβll be looking further out tonight. I should be in swamps by now but using my time sailing instead
We are trying not to use world viewer. Also I was the first to get bronze and currently only one with boat so itβs on me currently π
Ah, that would have happened for me so long ago I don't remember it. Thanks. I'll look on the wiki for a list of all Hugin hints.
I dont think wiki has a complete list of all his lines sadly π€
Ok
I found 2 of them relatively quickly. Haldor is the one being a major pain in the rear end. I've hit Mistlands to the East and west and North trying to find him. So I am going back south now. For a guy that supposedly has 10 spawn points, he sure is being hard to find. Maybe 9 of them are in the Mistlands or Ashlands, and thats why he is being so hard to find this time.
Yeah my first world I played on when plains was endgame I didnβt find him until I was ready for Yag. But I didnβt know what I was missing then. Now I really want my belt
Yep. I've done pretty much all my iron without that belt. Total suckage. but I have my gear. I still need more for later game gear, but I really want that belt for doing silver.
Skeletons i believe
the troll not?
Yeah, they fight skeletons.
i saw he is friendly with greylings
Nope, they are both forest faction
i see
Skeletons kill everything else in the BF.
Hii guys
I just bought the game and I have a question
I saw that some people create new worlds when the devs release updates to fully benefit from the update right?
Welcome to your newest obsession! Whatβs the question?
Old worlds don't get affected by new updates?
Right, most updates to biomes will only take effect in unexplored areas
unexplored areas can benefit from updates
They will, but already explored areas will not get new structures for example π
Sometime its better to start over, though
What about old characters? I also need to create a new one to get the full changes of buffs and nerfs
Old characters are fine!
Yep, characters are not affected in any way, you can use one made 4 years ago or a week ago π
Some people will start a new character to experience the whole world from scratch; itβs ultimately your choice
So they will be exactly the same as a new character right?
Yep π
In other words, you can scratch an experience from a new choice of a whole character world.
Can't have the same name for different characters for some goofy reason
Nice :3
I don't like restarting much in games because of character progression but I like to create new worlds
What I just said was funnier in my head
People don't do this?? π
Fortunately or unfortunately, however you see it, restarting from scratch aka replayability is valheim's core for the most part, otherwise people would just get their first playthrough in and never go on it again
Such is the nature of procedurally generated sandbox games
Neck.
In which biome? π
Rocky the pet rock, he's a very hardy rock
I'd still rather fight a morgen over lava blobs, the latter is a lose-lose situation
Either you blow em up or they blow up themselves, rats
Look I can only pick up sticks and rocks so many times π€£
Eh? They are probably the easiest enemy in ashlands tho xD
Snow π
Currently nothing else than Northern salmon fish.
Sure, but you can't really "kill" them
They do that for you, yep xD
No matter what he's gonna go kamikaze
do you guys like the login message or is it annoying? im asking to see if i should remove it on my server or not
I like it
floating ice sheets
No, it is just a placeholder for when the update comes π
The biome is going to have the update which is also the update version 1.0 that moves the game from Early Access.
You can look up from https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202150165449035816 about some small peeks what there might be.
filet it .
It's the fish you can catch and use for raw fish, put on wall or use to craft fishing hat.
But if you want to continue your old world when Deep North gets the update you'd better leave most of the areas unexplored.
Trying to fight Charred in the Ashlands and they keep just... walking off into oblivion.
daddy lizard dead
Day 189 and I FINALLY found Haldor. Way down South, kind of close to a Sealed Tower location. Furthest out I think I have ever found him.
Now to finally start fishing, and to get the rest of that iron I need for later in the game. Maybe make a few more iron chests too. Max out the last few pieces of my gear that I was just going to settle for being at lvl 3.
Me, I've cleaned out all Mistlands on this island and still came up four cores short to make the damn table. Need to deconstruct the forge every time I want to repair or make something from the table. Gaah. Need to move my Mistlands outpost in other words, off to find a suitable location then!
It seems like once I get to that total of 15, I then start to more easily find additional mines with more cores in them. I usually have over 40 cores by the time I get to and beat the Queen.
Same, it's magic...
Sure seems like it.
I also usually have over 300 Eitr left once I am done making and upgrading all my gear. (I do not do magic)
Same, I usually make the robes and the staves for decoration, but I hate the gameplay so I nearly never take them out. But I do miss my summoned skelly Helga who was wandering around the mists around my old Mistlands base for weeks. I stopped finding her after a while, guess the seekers got her.
