dang it

#

booooooo

chrome badge
#

They're not fishing clothes so why would they

wintry valve
#

Because the clothes helps with all sort of tools like the hammer, cultivator, hoe, and serving tray. Many of these items are not related to each others.

#

I find extra amusing that they help with the serving tray, too. As if thats ever a problem.

chrome badge
#

Right, but there are fishing clothes in-game.

wintry valve
#

Right, and there are farming clothes too, but the other peasant clothes also help with farming.

#

but I guess the nature of the fishing skill is different than farming

chrome badge
#

Okay well, that should indicate there are sets for these things.

wintry valve
#

To be honest I just dont really like how fishing works in this game, but to go back to what I said earlier, its likely that I just "didnt get it"

#

I just never managed to reel a fish near me, even with 200 stamina

ashen ravine
#

is fishing super hard? sorry if I’m butting in.

chrome badge
#

I find it's nice to take a simple raft out and cast as close as I can to myself. I'll mark schools of fish on the map and it helps with going spot to spot.

#

You can even paddle the raft while casted out and catch a fish while steering the raft.

wintry valve
#

At least leveling fishing is really easy, if time consuming

light moat
#

It’s not hard, but the bigger fish can be tricky. Positioning is probably the most important factor, as well as stamina.

#

I find it enjoyable. Wish there was more to it, but it’s a neat little activity.

wintry valve
#

I wish there was a way to buy a thing that generates bait slowly

#

like hives and honey

ashen ravine
#

worms are used as bait?

wintry valve
#

on the other hand im full of money

ashen ravine
#

like if it isn’t maybe. If they did add something like..

#

Maybe when it begins to rain you can try finding some worms.

#

No wait ignore that idea I think the grass would get in the way

wintry valve
#

In Stardew valley you can build a bin that creates a few units of bait every day

ashen ravine
#

what’s that?

#

If it’s a popular game sorry. I haven’t been able to get to play good games much ._.

light moat
ashen ravine
#

Hey just this is an off topic question but. Is it normal for dreams to last hours?

wintry valve
#

Its absolutely phenomenal for a game that was made by a single guy

ashen ravine
#

That does sound pretty impressive.

#

And cool.

wintry valve
#

You know how cool it was?
It was so good that a bunch of years later, Nintendo Direct presented thirteen games of the exact same formula at the same time.

fluid cove
#

it was built on the Harvest Moon formula but made better

wintry valve
#

Put harvest moon to shame, really

ashen ravine
#

I might try it out cause I haven’t been able to play good games.

eternal coral
#

Cause you know .. Nintendo is incapable of doing anything new ....
they just remake things ...
but remaking something that wasn't already theirs is unusual

ashen ravine
#

What’s up with Nintendo? Sorry I’m just a little late or maybe forgot on what’s wrong with it.

#

I’m doing a project not forced but a little stressing.

wintry valve
#

Nintendo is going crazy right now. Its hard to explain exactly why they are doing all that. There is a reason but its just harder and harder to defend every passing year.

ashen ravine
#

That’s tough.

wintry valve
#

The solution is simple, really

#

Valheim

fluid cove
#

Farmheim

eternal coral
#

it's just more money for minimal effort
that is the entire Nintendo game plan
don't make new games .. or platforms
just re-release everything we make every few years ...
and charge even more for it

fluid cove
#

and sue other companies to the ground for making a game slightly similar to theirs but better

wintry valve
#

Well its blowing up in their face

ashen ravine
#

So it’s sort of like..

#

“Hey I just made this little Mario thing to show my appre-“ SUE-

eternal coral
#

that part is painful but somewhat understandable
the laws of the country that Nintendo is based in state that if there is a challenge to your IP and you do not defend it in court ..
you forever lose to right to defend your IP ever again
brutal .. but they kinda have to ...
however other companies from the same area ...
reach out to others who touch on their IP and make agreements with them
instead of grinding them to dirt
noone but Nintendo has ever sued a small child for making fan art

chrome badge
#

It's unfortunate, but most long standing companies in today's business climate resort to profit mongering. Typically they neglect what made their company a staple, and upsell old products. Integrity inherently diminishes in a shareholder prominent environment. Customers used to be king.

ashen ravine
#

Dang..that’s tough

wintry valve
#

Oh, when people do fangames, Nintendo is actually justified in sending cease and desist letters as unfun as it is.

#

And considering how their gaming venture started, decades ago, they actually know firsthand how easy it is to lose their intellectual properties to these kind of things.

chrome badge
#

It's just sad how it's similar to say, someone inspired by the beatles playing music in the same genre, only in this case, the beatles keep showing up and smashing their instruments.

ashen ravine
#

After hearing all of this I think I’m gonna make some adjustments to the test. ._. Not meaning to ruin the moment

wintry valve
#

The thing is that in this example, if someone makes their own music that just happen to look like what the beatles did, said beatles can do jack about it.

#

If I were to make a game that looks like pokemon, using my own artworks, critters, story, and music. Nintendo couldnt do a thing.

#

Nintendo doesnt like it when people use their proprietary assets for fan projects.

chrome badge
ashen ravine

I wish I understood more

wintry valve
distant girder
#

is... is cooking meant to be the hardest skill to level? idk how many hundreds of onion soups i've made and turned into coal and i'm at lvl 34 @_@

ashen ravine
# wintry valve yes?

I know I just asked this question but is dreaming for hours normal for most people?

gray sand
#

Should be 1-2 based on what weapon/attack you are using.

chrome badge
wintry valve
#

Im no psychologist so I cannot give a meaningful answer to that

chrome badge
# ashen ravine REM?

Rapid Eye Movement Sleeping, your brain enters an active state while sleeping, and this produces vivid/extended dreams.

ashen ravine
#

That kinda oddly cool as well. Tho the dreams do get a bit. Worldly sometimes or that’s the correct word for it

#

Well did..

chrome badge
#

I used to have nightmares from time to time as a child, my mom just told me to dream of something else, and from that night on I learned to identify when I'm dreaming just in case I needed to change my dream.

ashen ravine
#

Wish I could do that.

#

but that’s the problem.

#

I cant change it.

#

I’m only aware. But I can’t leave

#

It stopped a year ago.

#

But came back not as bad as before

chrome badge
#

It takes a degree of awareness when drifting off to sleep, I usually just think to myself something having to do with the fact that I'm about to dream, and it gives me some autonomy in that state. It's harder to control when you just fall asleep with no prepared-ness of sorts.

ashen ravine
#

I’ve tried that as well. But nothing worked 🙁

fluid cove
ashen ravine
#

All I could do is traverse the world.

#

The dream as odd

wintry valve
#

rightfully so, too, I would say

ashen ravine
#

I don’t know the right word for it

#

You forget.

chrome badge
# ashen ravine The dream as odd

I know that feeling, but if you're having vivid dreams, continue taking steps towards finding awareness of the dream, once you're dreaming and you know it, you can attempt to switch things up, even minor things.

ashen ravine
#

Have you ever had a dream where you wished it was a nightmare?

#

Sorry if that’s odd.

chrome badge
#

Yes but only because I am a Nightmare On Elm Street fan. 😅

gray sand
#

I dreamed that people talked about Valheim in the valheim chat channel 😉

ashen ravine
#

I could try to describe a bit of what the dreams felt like.

#

Idk if I could even call it a dream it felt like a world

#

It was abstract someone might say.

#

The world was as if someone had played with it like slime. It was messed up.

#

Gravity not working the way it’s suppose to.

#

Distorted reflections

#

It was all odd I wish I could explain more.

#

I don’t have a name a world where even the world itself dosent even remember what it’s suppose to be ._.

Just have fun with it, fear of what you haven't yet tried will only keep you from getting better. Enjoyment leads to passion, and passion leads to experience. 👍

gray sand
distant girder
#

i question this timeline of ...i mean, everything is experience
ooo yea i tend to always do communal playthroughs lol

gray sand
#

I don't like people fucking with my shit, even if it is playful 😄
So everyone kind of gets their own island or area of the map and it means we all get our own builds.
Visiting to see what other people do is fun. And we do also trade because some people farm certain things more than others.

#

Like I will trade you ingots of any kind for berries given how much Tasty Mead I burn through 😄

distant girder
#

that sounds awesome
my issue with sandbox games is debilitating decision paralysis so if i'm on my own i never end up making anything no matter how badly i really wanna

#

working with other people helps with brainstorming and i like decorating interiors

gray sand
#

Being able to make decisions is a life skill, so I highly encourage you keep hitting sandboxes to learn it in a safe environment 💛

Even if your first decision is "kill all lifeforms" 😈

i found a draugr village in snow yesterday, that was a first

fossil delta
#

Don't recall ever finding one in snow. Close to a mountain, but not in the snow.

distant girder

#

so it happened to be placed in snow lol

fossil delta

Found them going into swamp a couple of times.

#

At least that makes some sense.

Good thing about this village, to me, is the throne building looks to be almost completely intact. So hopefully I can clear it without the Raven Throne being destroyed.

Hopefully it will have two chests underneath as well.

Highest difficulty raids in case you missed my question

Well, at first I asked if "nightmare" and "doable" are mutually exclusive.
Because there are doable nightmares.

Also mobs are the same, just health/damage values adjusted to your difficulty.
No enemy has 3 stars.

To the dictionary and the general gaming community:
Nerf = reduce or make worse
Buff = increase or make better

Knockback is reduced at the same percentage as the damage when block armor is applied. If you block an attack with 100 knockback and 20 damage with 10 block armor, you'll take 50 knockback.

Also while looking for this I found that knockback is multiplied by your equipment movespeed so heavy armor and shields will reduce it slightly. I'm not sure if this was known already, I haven't seen this mentioned before. This multiplier is only applied if your equipment movespeed is below 100% so fenris armor won't increase knockback taken.

Skill issue?

rugged bridge
#

Lox just launches you halfway across the world because you approached him

gray sand
#

I am considering writing one of my rare, in-depth suggestion posts.
It would be about trinkets, and making them craftable with a modular system.
Specific ingredients give you specific effects.
Each effect has an associated adrenaline amount.
So you combine these to make what you want.
If you want a smaller effect that procs more often with a low cost - make it.
If you want more powerful effects - they will cost you more to activate.

Mainly because certain trinkets have 1 good effect that I want, but their adrenaline is bloated to like 70-85 because they have added effects that I don't want.
Example: Wolf Trinket gives +10% Pierce with skill buffs and costs 55 to proc -- good, useable. But if you like Maces, the +10% Blunt trinket costs 85 because it also heals you.
What if I don't want the heal part? What if I just want the Blunt buff? That effect by itself should be down in the 50 range, but I can't get it because of the current system.
@wintry valve

wintry valve
#

Theres something in this that I do not like. I get why you would suggest that and its not a bad idea per se.

silk token
#

oy. yeah like a whole trinket crafting station.

fossil delta
#

I don't even bother with the trinkets anymore. I so rarely fight long enough to even activate them.

gray sand
silk token
#

weak normal and strong components you add to the trinkets base cost to make it stronger/weaker

#

not unlike crafting ashlands weaons with gems

wintry valve
#

I would have to think about it to properly explain the what I dont like. Basically its that I think its fine for arrows to be "modular" because they are consumables. Trinkets would basically end up with everyone using the best set and that would be the end of it.

#

anyway I cant talk more I gotta go to work

gray sand

Poke me after work.

but best is subjective some people can or can't achieve 90 adrenaline in life

Aint something I can do now. Its something that would happen once a new system is made. Right now the current trinket system is a series of choices and compromises. If you can just slap whatever you want within the imposed limits to your trinket, a meta would establish itself.

it would make a large number of players maybe stop complaining if they could get 20 adrenaline and get like 5% whatever

We have a meta currently?
Because some people would want the Pierce buff, others would want the Slash or Blunt ones. <- automatically no "best" here.
Some people would value stamina regen, others would want EITR regen or flat EITR procs.
Iron Brooch gives you the +20 Armor proc which could go hard with other things.
Given how everyone plays differently and has different preferences, you could math the 100% "optimal" trinket but it would require you to use a specific weapon or playstyle to go with it. And the majority isn't really going to care enough.

gray sand
rugged bridge
#

What I proposed would just be a lazy solution to the problem

gray sand
#

Not entirely true, we do add effects to Ashlands weapons.

fossil delta

I'd be shocked if they added it as well. I felt the same about magic, but they did do that, so... who knows?

rugged bridge

Sure, but it's not exactly custom, just predetermined

gray sand

Predetermined by resource used.

rugged bridge

We're doomed if DN comes out with another equippable and no solution to the inventory problem

silk token

I just know there are people who say it’s impossible to get 40 stamina, and I’m like… I don’t understand how they combat? Like I’m not sure I wouldn’t accidentally get 40 stamina.

fossil delta

I'd be more likely to use trinkets if they lowered the threshold for activating them. Like I said earlier, I activate them so rarely I have stopped bothering to wear them.

silk token
#

case and point

fossil delta

I have to be in rather over whelming situations for them to even activate. Like meleeing raids, entire fuling villages, and the like.

silk token
#

That is the stated purpose of them

rugged bridge
#

70 adrenaline is my upper limit if the boost is good enough, anything above that I'll pass for whatever the effects

silk token
#

Trinket on the hole pairing stamina, a change was to help players not get slowly overwhelmed

#

Interesting voice to text there

fossil delta

I never read a stated purpose for them. Is there small print some where I've failed to see? Or is this in the patch notes I rarely even read, let alone memorize?

Even when they trigger, their duration is too limited.

I do like his idea. It might get me to start using trinkets again.

gray sand
#

I think Flip's "upgrade" idea has the best chance of actually passing compared to a complete overhaul. So I am going to ruminate on it.

silk token
#

i’m thinking of like a horadric cube or you can put any number of whatever in to get trinkets and add to them more or differently, and each time it would just increase the adrenaline requirement

rugged bridge
#

My idea narrows down to praying they reuse already existing systems on the trinkets Rocky

silk token
#

I mean, adding gems to Ashland’s weapons is probably exactly the sort of thing

#

You make an iron brooch, now you unlock three things you can put things on the iron brooch

gray sand
#

Oh I can make it work, don't worry. Just need to math out how much effects cost and then determine a suggested singular base effect per trinket.

rugged bridge
gray sand
#

Because base effects would be unique to the trinket, and then you'd have "addables" that can go on anything.

rugged bridge
#

Unless you had like 9 different variants of each one lol

gray sand
#

More than 9.

#

Visually they wouldn't have to change, or just slight color variants if a designer felt compelled.

rugged bridge
#

Let's be real no one sees their model anyway unless they purposely take off all their armor so it doesn't matter what they look like

gray sand
#

It matters because someone did spend the effort modeling them.

Yeee

wintry valve
#

is corewood an actual real thing or its just a valheim thing?

#

I just searched for that and I got like all the valheim links

gray sand
#

Well, if the "normal" wood we get is the equivalent of your standard framing lumber, it would be softwood. Where Valheim's Finewood would be the equivalent of hardwood.

So where Corewood ranks is... yeah that's a pickle.

wintry valve

dark coyote

dark coyote
gray sand

Fine drops from Oak though 😉

dark coyote
#

yeah im guessing thats what they mean by "fine" which is a little misleading

gray sand
#

And I was mainly separating "building wood" vs. "decorative wood" as they are used in the game.

dark coyote
#

like bows should be made from corewood if thats soft, (yew is a conifer), hardwood should be furniture and clubs/staves/handles or w/e

gray sand
#

Valid.

#

Where do you put Yggdrasil Wood? 😏 kappa

loud mesa
#

Anyone have suggestions for how to beat Yagluth? My friends an I started a new play thru and we are really struggling to defeat it. I don't remember Yagluth being this difficult to beat before.

gray sand
#

Silver Sword + Barely Wine.

loud mesa
#

Tried that. Even with the barley wine we get burned to death any time we get close.

gray sand
#

Well obviously don't stand in the fire 😉

#

Which will always be placed on his right side.

#

Right hand is fire pool. Left hand is meteors.

loud mesa
#

we dodge when he raises his right hand but the radius of the his close up fire attack still hits us. It has a bigger radius thatn i remeber

gray sand
#

Just being on the total opposite side of him will put you right on the edge of it, so back up a couple steps and he will turn out of it to you.

#

If there is 2 of you, just have 1 person tank and position him while the other peppers him with Frost Arrows.

loud mesa
#

yeah, we tried frost arrows. We burned thru our supply of 600 without taking him down.

#

how do you tank him?

gray sand
#

oof

#

By "tank" I just me "be close enough that he is targeting you instead of the other people".

loud mesa
#

ah, so kite him

gray sand
#

That's the only kind of tanking we have unless they add a taunt mechanic.

loud mesa
#

in other games tank usually means soak damage

gray sand
#

Which you force by being able to taunt things so they have to attack you.

loud mesa
#

depends on the game.

gray sand
#

Or by having some kind of threat system.

loud mesa
#

so approach from the left and use frost arrows. anything else?

gray sand
#

Mead and Silver Sword are the main 2 things.

#

Frost Arrows for any ranged person.

loud mesa
#

why silver sword vs other silver weapons?

gray sand
#

Because it is BiS for that fight.

loud mesa
#

BiS?

gray sand
#

Best in Slot.

loud mesa
#

ok. why is it BiS?

gray sand
#

Given the goal is "kill him" -- what would you assume "best" means in this context?

loud mesa
#

There are other silver weapons. i generally roll with the Frostner

gray sand
#

There are, but they all do less damage than the sword does.

#

Which makes them all good, but not best.

lone rampart
#

The sword has a quick attack and doesn’t use a lot of stamina to swing, maximizing your damage output

gray sand

Sword also has the most spirit, which is what you're after.

any server which can play together
?

bronze gust
# vernal karma on very hard combat?

no wife and i havent messed with those settings yet, we are playing on the default setting, we started this world before we even knew those settings were added. been 1.5 yrs since we played last. very hard combat tho sounds fun to use almost 1k hrs each. it would push use to max out gear cuz right now we know what we are doing so maxing out isnt really needed for us

gray sand
vernal karma

makes parrying not viable for many fights

bronze gust
gray sand

Like the best shield for VH is arguably the Serpent Tower Shield.

bronze gust

pretty much the way you play in default settings would be almost completly different combat wise then in VH?

fluid cove
gray sand
#

Yeah, it all switched to dodgerolling until you're talking about going back to previous biomes.

#

Which, funnily enough, makes the spear better 😄

#

Because for some enemies you don't have enough time for a full swing of other weapons after rolling because they aren't staggered.
Spear shines by being able to roll-hit-roll on even the enemies with the fastest attack animations.

vernal karma
bronze gust

vernal karma

actively training block becomes very useful

gray sand
#

Also who tf uses normal shields outside of the blackmetal and wood ones?

#

Wood shield because only option.
Bronze buckler is arguably the single largest defensive upgrade in the game.
Iron buckler.
Silver shield is only 8 armor better than iron buckler so many would say not worth.
Blackmetal shield because no buckler.
Carapace buckler is currently the best shield in the game if you parry.
Even against flametal options.

#

Anywho, past midnight, so sleep time.

wintry valve
#

I sometime like to have medium shields because I dont always time well my blocks

#

but, truth be told, I dont use shields currently

vernal karma
#

gigachads parry with their weapons

vernal karma
wintry valve

you also have to look at the parry bonus. A buckler's effective armor during a parry is much higher than what is indicated. In this case, the silver shield is still better tho

vernal karma

high block is also good.

Chickens stay happy long enough to lay eggs multiple times when you feed them once

I see. Nice. Didnt know they can lay multiple eggs at once

What's y'all's ranking of the biomes

wintry valve
#

I like the swamp the most, and I loathe the mistlands

#

The mountain is the most beautiful. The plains are just kind of boring but functional.

west pulsar
#

Hot takes i like it

#

If i had to say the swamp is low for me

#

Used to be higher but as i put hours into the game I can't rank it as high

wintry valve
#

I just like the whole of it. Its gloomy, a bit scary, enemies arent relentless and still poses a challenge. And they all drop useful stuff to varying degrees (except the skeletons). The swamp food is easy to make and I still rely on it late game when I want to explore most biomes. The goal of the swamps is straightforward and easy. Its also then you get the best boat.

glad night

I like Mistlands

west pulsar

That and a weak soundtrack

Both swamp and mistlands are in my top biomes list.

I know that's an extremely unpopular take

wintry valve

I hate the queen

west pulsar

But the queen had the best music and vibes and the idea of a boss dungeon while it had phases

It's the only boss that felt like a BOSS

It's music gives me like diablo vibes which i fw heavy

The emerald flame i would say is close though

The biome its in unfortunately isn't good

But the boss itself is amazing
