Bronze Buckler is one of the largest upgrades in the game.
Upgraded bear paws can parry as much as a lvl 1 bronze buckler, which is enough for all (unstarred) swamp enemies
I hate gjalls
6 extractors for two players is a bit over board. ๐ Guess some redundancy is good, in case any of them despawn.
playing on hard currently, so parries are a bit less forgiving
decided to skip bronze so I could get the iron buckler anyway
got almost a full karve of iron
I'm loving the new armor set
the bonuses are small but you definitely notice them when they matter, survived a blob's poison on 2 health thanks to the regen bonus
Atgeir spin or bear claw kick have high stagger multiplier (6x), which is handy when parrying is less reliable.
how does the battle axe alt attack do? iirc it has a 4x
been considering doing an axe focused playthrough since there's actually some battleaxe variety now, and it goes well with bear armor
Yes, 4x stagger for secondary attack, but dealing half the damage the stagger is effectively 2x of the weapon damage.
Primary attacks also have higher stagger multiplier (1,5x) plus no multi target penalty.
Do we know who Ulf, Astrid, Bjรถrn, Harald, and Gudrun are from the lorestones?
i assumed just ambiance flavor. other warriors who were brought before/after you to valheim
Yeah, initially I assumed that as well, but then I thought maybe it's the characters from the trailers they put out.
maybe, theyr'e also the most stereotype viking names that ever existed, famous either real or legend
I got a skelly named Gudrun when I tested the dead raiser, kinda fitting... Gudrun survived for weeks wandering around in the mists near my Mislands mushroom farm, I have no idea how, but I kept running into her for weeks after I summoned (and hearlessly abandoned) her.
weirdest swamp, it's big, it's night and there are no enemies at all
good news thought! got vile trophy from my first ever vile kill. i heard rng can be terrible with these
Is it possible to EVER have enough dam wood?
Depends on if you use it as your primary material or not.
If you build mainly out of stone/marble -- entirely possible to have too much wood.
Marble?!?!. I never made it further than bone mass
Mistlands.
Holy he'll!
Marble, copper fittings, spiral staircases.
Is this real life
Yes, get to Mistlands.
I seem to always have an issue getting sprial stairs to meet up with second floor
Is mist lands after mountain?
If you beat Bonemass you're about to get proper windows in the Mountain, and Plains will give you darkwood which will massively open your options prior to marble.
Start them on the second floor and go down ๐
hmmm havet tried that , will give it a go
I always restart over after bonemass. I have issues lol
The elder is waaaay easier than I remember him
I wish there were more builders who didn't use nobuildcost in their videos
I get that it makes it much more convenient, but it'd be nice to see more survival-oriented builds that actually account for basic needs like max comfort bedding, crafting areas with upgrades, and practical decoration
I think plenty of us do build legit, we just don't film it.
oh yeah, I know, I'm talking about how prevalent nocost build videos are
they're impressive, but it's disappointing when you're looking for inspiration for an iron-age base and the person in the video is using darkwood and an amount of stone so large you'd have to level a mountain to get it all
Stone is easy, just mine copper ๐
It's getting up into detailing high-arch roofs without dying that is the issue sometimes for me ๐
oh and crystal walls, though those are at least somewhat justifiable since you can just wander into the mountains with swamp gear
if I mine copper for a second longer than necessary I might paint my house red with a dundr
I have an undying hatred for bronze, gets so bad late-game that I opt to just deconstruct dvergr camps in the mistlands for scrap instead
oh one thing that really gets me is forge setups
setting up indoor forges with furnaces & kilns is such a pain to make look good and functional
I found a naturally generated maypole not far from my starter house so I may end up relocating my base to there
just hope I can somehow incorporate it into the build and also get it in range of my bed
Stuff like Maypoles that are "seasonal only for building" I do not begrudge activating hammer mode for.
Because it is a buildable. It's just "do you feel like waiting months until you can place it"...
I have my "forge building" and my "workbench building" that are separate from my "house building" is how I mainly make it functional and feng shui.
on the seasonal things too, you can always just fast forward your computer clock and get it in without using dev commands too
You want me to devcommand my entire PC instead of just the game???? ๐
well if u wanna avoid the cheater! stat thing in /stats ๐
does anyone wanna play?
My trophy was just talking to me, anyone else had this experience?
Boss trophies all talk to the player.
What armor/weapons/meads are suggested for surviving in the mountains?
Feather cape/dyrnwyn/major healing๐คฃ (end game stuff dont listen to what i say)
Any/Iron/Frost Resist until you get Mountain armor/cape.
wolf 2* don't care what
Fish trophies talk too.
nope, you're literally the only one in the entire player base
damn
mine gpu recently died and new one wont be soon
soooo, how do you think - will Radeon HD5450 be enough for all minimum 720p ? xD
Silver armour+ weapons for more protection and holy damage or fernis armour + claws from caves for protection from fire, speed boost and fist fight
Meads - healing + stamina and fire protection if you have it, this one is only for looting caves
Avoid golems, shoot down dragons with poison arrows, avoid too many wolves in one place and be careful during night times
Hope this helps
If "holy damage" == spirit, doesn't affect anything in the Mountain afaik as it works only on undead enemies.
Ferings at night, and basically everything from ice caves
None of those are labeled as undead.
Weird.
The anti-undead DoT working on alive things? Yes - weird.
Hold on I gotta check it myself
Oh also poison bombs are really good against crowds if you find some space to hide/run away in critical situations
Just maade it to ashlands and the inventory management sucks man
-->
Changes nothing
I just checked it, weirdly enough spirit damage does work on all those wolf creatures from caves, and the mini boss too
๐ญ
just frostner smash everything
Ugh, horrible weapon.
Yeah, I currently have mistwalker as my main
I wanna get a drynwyn but having 10 fire damage against 52 frost + 10 spirit is not a good exchange, they should really raise up that fire damage
Flame sword sucks tbh.
10 fire compared to chain lightning is also just not a good exchange.
It really does, but if they fix it up a bit it and make it worth all that hustle
They should make alternative attack to where it splashes fire all around you like the skeleton mini boss
Oh if we start down the rabbit hole of "should" we will exceed the Discord character limit ๐
Yooo Wsg guys I bought Valheim today and Iโm addicted already
welcome
Help yes. Advice no, because there is no correct way to do things. Answer to all advice questions is "Whatever you, personally, feel like choosing." ๐
That's really wise
I will thanks a lot
Vinny got to the swamp and made a bunch of iron stuff. Vinny havent died yet.
Always nice to start with 40 Hare meat and finish with 52 Misthare Surprise. I can get used to this new cooking mechanic.
Did almost as well with Lox Pies.
what new cooking mechanic?
Cooking skill, randomly (% chance based on skill value) gives you an extra piece of food when you cook
Hey guys im wanting to start a valheim dedicated server for a bunch of friends of mine, is it easy to use mods for this? Probably using a hosting service like gportal
@faint badger get on Valheim pal
Youre gonna get me in trouble dawg
What I do
Anyone know how to get my dedicated server to not be 0.221.5 it's not even released yet
Has they sent DMs to you?
You can contact moderators by sending DM to @dusky pivot if you suspect something fishy with another user in this server.
She did
yo i want to play with someone

k, thanks
Does the troll endurance mead stack with Moder's power?
If so, it could be a useful way to haul a good load away in one go, without cart. Combine with fenris & ratatosk you can cover some distance too
yes
They all stack: Megingjord + Troll endurance + Moder power = total of 1000 carrying capacity.
Sweet, that's actually going to be really helpful, especially in mountains where the cart is kinda awkward to use. While sure, you can just push it down the mountain - but that always comes with a chance of it getting stuck or simply breaking. Simply running it all home in one go would be a lot less hassle..
Before the last update, I had never used Moder's power once - since it released I haven't had any other power active. Of course running no-portals puts a lot more emphasis on sailing, so having Moder on call is more of a constant "need" than situational nice-to-have as before, and with the carry capacity bonus it is definitely more useful.
i know that were supposed to look for players in the lfg but i dont understand how it works so does anyone wann aplay?
I got my first bear throphy from a bear that wandered too close to my base and got eaten by wolves
I didnt even know it was there. i just noticed a wolf near the edge had low hp. went over to investigate and theres a pile of bear loot
You simply go there, scroll through the posts - which are actually threads - until you see one you might like.
Click at it and it'll open the thread, in which you can see the information about the server, the modifiers and all that.
You can use that to either enter the game unanounced - and risk being kicked / banned - or reply to it, saying you'd like to join that particular game at a certain time.
maybe its just a dead time thank you dor your help
i'm ratatosk addict
I shouted out Valheim in the video
plz contact me and make me a character in the final update

hmm, was just reading up on the farmer's tunic and straw hat. from a stamina perspective, the simple tunic and hat is actually better to use. +25 farming skill only gives you a 12.5% stamina reduction and on the cultivator only whereas the other set gives you combined 35% stamina reduction on all base tools. Am I missing something?
Farming skill gives you a chance at getting extra crops right
But if stamina is your main concern then go for that
Yes, there's that.
I'
I've got such a big farm that the bonus on crops isn't a big deal for me.
Then you got your answer
You can always pop yag power too for the extra farming skill i think too if you really want to
get a lil bit of both worlds
actually now that I think of it, it's better to use the farming set to gather and then switch to the simple set for replanting.
now we need a chefs apron ๐
and some sprinkable salt
Beekeeping outfit that makes the bees even happier with chance for extra honey.
I will pay the devs for this
get honey comb extra
Wanted Kvastur trophy. Kvastur hits surprisingly hard and killed me before I could get my trophy.
Skeleton surprise - they downed a bear and a troll. I thought that was impressive.
the real Valheim endgame is fishing for level 3 fishes
Hi vikinger,
I've been playing Vallheim for a while now. (Up to the Planes)
I'm looking for players I can easily play with.
I would be delighted if you could send me a message or recommend a server.
Thanks, Widokin
tru
Only level 3?
nvm i just found out fish quality goes up to 5
heh
There you go ๐
saw the images on google they're huge
I have gotten only quality 4 anglerfish. ๐
How much wallspace does it consume?
Can check, just a moment.
๐
Also, after latest update its positioning changed face towards, before patch it was sideways like other fish.
The level 5 anglerfish is HUGE, like the size of you.
Quality 5 tuna is huge too.
yeah.
Had a tuna the size of my karve jump over my karve last week, scared me witless - for a moment I thought they had smuggled some new sea monster into the update...
real life Bluefin Tuna are also staggeringly massive in size
Which is weird when you consider how much house cats love tuna ๐ something like 50x larger than them.
Long live the queen... Time for ashlands now ;-;
As Hugin said: "You survived the easy part. Now it's time to prepare for war."
Yup.. My past ashlands experiance tellโs me iโll be in for quite the treat ๐ฎโ๐จ
There definitely are different experiences for Ashlands in the past. Like as early as before the initial Ashlands update, it was quite breeze back then.
Gods, there's this huge trollfish around my dock I'm trying to catch, but the bugger consumes my entire stamina bar and escapes the very second it gets hooked. I had 130 stamina, it vanished before I could even release the mouse button. How on earth is it supposed to even be possible to catch the big ones?
Full stamina food, meads ๐
There was no time to consume a mead there, it really went from full bar to "escaped" in the blink of an eye
Also I would let regular pikes and perch bite on any of the higher tier baits if you are going to have them swimming around the water in later biomes. It's pretty frustrating to be pulling trollfish with their bait and all of a sudden mama pike comes along and goes NAH I DON'T WANT THAT SHIT and swims off...
I mean it was BIG
Karve trick.
I am on a karve, but since that big <bleep> consumes my (now) 180 stamina bar in less than a second, me hooking him with just 1m of line out doesn't help...
Most annoying thing is he takes it every time, all the small ones I CAN catch just wait in the background. I want him gone!
You can tell how he grew that big
I miss valheim, i dropped over 1k hours in it since release but havent played it since 2023 ๐ is it time to come home?
Eating all your bait?
HAHAHA I GOT HIM, the stupid eff hopped onto my dock
Just a lvl 3, I'm disappointed, thought he was a 4 at least
It definitely is time to get back, we just got new update month ago and DN is on the way. ๐
I havent even experienced the Mistlands yet
Then you're on treat.
Maybe it wasn't the big one who jumped onto me dock, I see some some other big blue thing taunting me out in the swell
I gave up on fishing watching the stam bar vanish. The mod for fishing is just as much fun. ๐ (and soooo much easier!)
(and I spent waaayyyy too much time fishing in WoW) ๐
Yeah well, I doubt I will ever have the patience to let my skill grow big enough to even consider the later fishes
Bit to slow to gain levels for its relative utility
Not really worth the time investment if you look at it in numbers. Not that I usually care about that, but seeing how downright impossible the high level fish are even when I am prepared, I don't think I'll bother much more
yep. The higher quality ones... (anglerfish or fish9 if you wanna use the spawn command) ๐
And this was just a - assuming there wasn't a bigger one that still lurks just out of sight - troll fish lvl 3
There is a way to catch the bigger ones with low skill, etc... first, be on a Karve, like you are. Second, keep your lure in close to your boat. Third, when you catch them keep your cursor on them and keep pressing E. With a little bit of luck, you will grab them before you lose your catch. I've managed to get lvl 4's this way. Rarely. Lvl 3's with a fair amount of regularity. My skill just levelled up to 21.
Mine is at 14...
I've been catching lvl 3's since my skill was maybe a 10. Grabbing them with the cursor on them is the key. You just have to get them out of the water for a second.
Which is of course not enough by a wide margin, but seeing as we only get the fishing rod about 2 1/2 biomes in or later, it wouldn't be that unfair if the skill was a bit more forgiving or simply grew faster, at least the first 20 or so levels
Agreed. I just still go after the bigger ones because they so drastically increase your numbers of pieces of fish. I actually concentrate on catching troll fish.
They seem to be the most aggressive in going after the bait. So cut down on my time by a good amount. The others do a lot of playing around.
The only other fish I go after are the Anglers. They seem reasonably aggressive going after the bait, and the lvl 1's are easy to pull in.
Since I got eggs from the fuling lords I built a chicken coop, I'm pretty pleased with how it works - my one concern is if bats can get inside through the smoke outlet, I might need to put some iron grating there, no? #screenshots message
Maybe, mine are just fully enlcosed houses on the ground inside of my base. I put the fires outside of them. Like my bonfires heat one of them, and those are for my boat coming in. Another is heated by a hearth I use outside to burn massive amounts of deer and boar meat into coal.
Yeah this is heated by a hanging brazier inside the coop, reaches every space in there so no egg will end up too cold wherever they drop it. No space for fires outside for obvious reasons, guess I could put them on the ground but I bet I would smoke the chicks to death that way...
Well, I'll know next time I get the bats
Not if you put the fire outside like I do. Besides, my bonfires help kill the bats, much like they kill squittos on the plains. They have a decent range for providing heat/comfort too. They are not right next to my coops, just nearby. I just checked to make sure the heat reached every part of the coop. Besides, if an egg is too cold, you can either move it to where it does get heat, or save it for omelets.
Since I built this base in a four-biome crossways I suspect it has a higher than normal spawn rate from mobs all around it, there's a constant barrage of squitos, fulings and lox from one side, greys on the other and swamp creatures from the next - and deer and boar running around getting slaughtered non-stop
I get a lot of free food at least
If squittoes aren't getting in, no worries about bats. Squittoes have the best pathing for getting into things. At least in that I have observed over my thousands of hours.
Haven't had anything getting inside the coop, my main house has some big windows on the upper floors so I've had both wraiths and squitos saying hello
Thats why I even use crystal, so I can let light in, but nothing else.
๐ Me too. I fight a lot more golems than I need to. ๐ I just find them fun to fight.
Plus what we find in the caves. So tons of it.
I just can't let them roam around my mountain, so I kill them when I meet them
Yeah, its most often because they are so close to a cabin or keep I have restored. Still, I find them fun to fight.
Still only 2 or 3 trophies, though. I hate you RNG...
I've been paying more attention to stagger due to comments here with my Tower shield. So yesterday I fought two soldiers at the same time. Never came close to worrying about being staggered. Fought a soldier and 3 seekers at the same time. Never came close to being staggered. All using my BM Tower Shield, and my skill only being in the mid 30's. So just another reason for me to like using Tower Shields.
Stone golems suck ass, the one mob in the game whose stagger makes 0 sense lol
Staggering them is like rolling a d20 to see whether it's gonna recover in half a second or slump around for 10 seconds
Again, they don't stagger me. Iron Tower shield for the win, and now, BM Tower Shield.
Not them staggering you, you staggering them
Oh, yeah, iron mace staggers them pretty fast.
The problem is they can recover from that stagger within a second
Or a good 10 seconds, depending on how they feel
Only one of their attacks will get them stagger for the longer time ๐ its not hard to learn which one it is
Well, once I stagger them I usually destroy them in two hits or so after.
That just sounds even more stupid then, I'm not gonna lie
One more thing you have to look for in the fight ๐ makes it bit more interesting
Specific attacks triggering longer stagger makes no sense, it's not like he's hitting any weaker lol
I haven't done parry in many years, so no idea how that even works with golems. I just stagger them with my mace attacks.
Once they do, just another couple of hits, and they explode.
Yeah, once you get stagger loop going they are gone
For being a slow, chunky mob you're supposed to "rarely" encounter while exploring the mountain, they're more common than anything else on there
Recent experience has yielded the result that you see them about as much as drakes, slightly less, nowhere near as infrequently as wolves
More common than wolves, for sure. Drakes seem to be the most common, which I am fine with.,. Love those freeze sacs.
Free bow targets
Nah, you have to punch those ๐
I wonder if they cut down on how often we see wolves because of the Hunted event? When your killing close to 40 for each of those...
Will file a complaint if their spawn rates were touched because of that
Events in general, let alone a specific one, are too rare to have to rely on them
I mean, once I determined their spawn spots for when I went to tame them, I consistently get wolves several times per night, but for just traversing mountains, they are rather uncommon.
This one doesn't rely on being at or near base items. Even so, I wouldn't say I get it a lot. Maybe 4 times before I go into the Mistlands.
Yeah dunno, 30 hours of recent gameplay, only one event during all that and it was the miniboss one
Not complaining, raids are just an annoyance
In fact, I turned all my wolf meat into coal yesterday, because just seeker meat is a better food than the kabobs. We have tons of seeker meat, so good bye wolf food.
Depends on the raid and what I still want. Like I am always happy to get chains. For a while I am happy the get home delivery of black metal. For a while I am happy to be hunted.
What in the holiest of hells, I ran out of troll heads. Never in a million years thought that would happen
What do you even use that many on? Think we still have over 30, and we fish with that bait.
Just the fish bait, but I went through a lot with that big boy near my dock last night
Ah, thats a lot. ๐
Like I said - he ate the bait to 1) make me run out of it and 2) stop me from catching the smaller ones. I'm sure of it!
The bigger ones are the least aggressive for me. I typically have to catch most, if not all, of the smaller ones for the big ones to start biting with regularity. Before then they bite only every so often.
Would be cool if the big ones would bite when you have smaller ones on the line ๐
Like real world pike, has happened to me a couple of times, hungry sob:s they are
Why tf are there charred enemies from all the way from ashlands and fulings from nowhere near plains just wandering the mountains
Did you kill fader already and is it night?
I had to watch greydwarfs, wolves, charred warriors and fulings have a big clash, yeah but there wasn't no raid or anything
After killing a boss enemies from their biome can spawn at night in earlier biomes ๐
Hence, after killing Fader, you can get charred even outside of ashlands at night
Oh I didn't know that, it is a bit weird honestly
Would love to know the lore behind this happening
Do the mobs just run away from their biome because their boss got demolished
For lore reason devs would have to share ๐
Gameplay reason is to keep nights at least a bit challenging pretty much afaik
Can't say it keeps them challenging if it happens after the biome's boss dies, but it makes the world feel more alive so there's that
Thats why i added the "at least a bit" xD
It's just weird cuz the charred travel through the bottom of the ocean
Or they might use a bonemaw serpent
In all honesty, by far the most fun fights happen in the ashlands, mobs having feints mixed with attacks was a really good addition
A bit less braindead parry spamming
Paradoxically, the brainless parry spamming is quite effective against them xD
Yeah, if the charred warriors try to bait a parry or sum just click defend again
But my favorite enemy, the fallen valkyrie is there, if only it wasn't so blind
Sure, but it makes you pay attention at least
It's not overkill to say that you can parry everything else without even looking at your screen lol
I don't think its overkill to say you can parry the feint without looking at your screen"
But the concept of the mechanic is cool
You can tell if theyโre feinting or not by the sound so itโs just like any other attack when youโre not looking
Any one wanna play? In Ashlands in my world but can help in yours if youโre not that far

I just broke my house down so I could build a new one now itโs a thunderstorm๐ญ
Its best to not break down old bases
as to make it a temporary one if you plan to build a new one
I made a temp one now
It centralizes your items
I broke it down cause it was covering the area I wanted to build in
if you plan to build on old base its best to make a temporary one close by
I got a temp one set up now but Iโll keep in mind I should make one before thanks
Holy shit taming in this game is abysmal
Its not that bad
Like I'm gonna turn my volume up for that instead of talking to friends
its pretty bad
I was pointing out the fact that you can parry without looking at the screen just based on timing because it's constant, can't guess feints reliably
Start guessing feints reliably then
I dont often tame myself only the late game tamable
I still have that muscle memory to double try parrying in case it's either feint or normal attack.
I just hunt and there
You cant get rid of that muscle memory especially when its very hard
i tried doing boars but its so awful, plus how plentiful they are in meadows/around runestones its just pointless
What progression are you?
going into swamp
You should have plently of carrots
is there a chanell for mod discussion
yeah ive got plenty of stew
oh found it on the bottom
Taming is optional not nessecary
But the materials you get are nice if you ever need em
Taming in valheim has conditions that need to be met before they start being tamed
Vinny havent found turnips yet.
its just too much work for too little reward
Vinny thinks turnip seeds should be features in more sources, such as chests.
They're quite rare but one is all you need
Yeah well I have zero.
Find 2 stars not 1 stars or non starred
be able to mount trolls when?
Should find turnips in swamp not sure I have ever entered one that didnโt have at least 1 bush
Trolls are enemies ๐
Its kind of annoying because I have a nearly fully upgraded iron tier stuff, I have my longboat, and he forge related stuff. I just want some damned turnips so I can make this spice rack so that I can make zombie sausage
and would probably body you if you try to ride them
hey so are wolves but you can use them as allies
I hire Trolls to clear forests
gotta be able to use trolls like in LOTR
Log trolls are the best for that
Agree
I know where to find them. Im just annoyed I havent found one yet.
Even a bit of copper mining
Due to their swing arc and consistant swings
I prefer the unarmed troll due to its special attack ground slam
Being able to AOE even underground copper
Sorry @ Vinnyboy know that can get aggravated
They were behind that last tree stump you passed. ๐
Not everything in this game has to be tamable
๐ฑ that would be my luck
You assume I leave tree stumps.
When Vinny is a lumberjack, Vinny picks after himself.
My wife s always the one that finds them I have to be honest.
You are a menace to society if you leave tree stumps
Can I have your wife?
Chill vinny
I find them first, mostly because I wear the Dvergr circlet. So the yellow shows up well.
To this day im still not sure what the skull emote means.
Vegvisirs arent too helpful in no map runs
yes they point you in the general direction but when that general direction is towards another biome it gets confusing
can't you see the direction from vegvisirs
oh well my sense of direction is so bad i could never do no map run anyway ๐
You can but the ones in dungeons are just not too helpful since its hard to guess which direction it is pointing when you're going around left and right in dungeons the direction gets off course
I go in the wrong direction so many times even with the maps...
if you get what I mean
i feel like first few biomes would be fun in no map run, but after that im not interested
im still going strong with my no map, very hard combat, max raids, and 2x resorce
I just need to rebuild and finalized my base for endgame
Its not too bad for the first two biomes
Me having to sit here for multiple nights in a row praying the two 2 star wolves I've got in a hole stop aggro'ing is truly awful lol
It's taking absolutely forever, especially since they're night spawns
Probably my only complain but the how the taming system is now its ok
Now a days I know how I want my base to be before I even build it. Kind of miss the days when I was still playing around with various layouts, etc... Sure, I start out with wood and end up with stone, but I even know how I am going to do that transition before I do it, since I've done it nearly 10 times now.
Get further away. Think the limit is 64 meters.
oh right raids.. only thing i turn off from my game
I havent tested on wolves but if you're able to feed them in a hole and get a small percentage of taming progress and have a portal nearby you can just go through your portal and do other stuff while you wait for nightfall
i love raids in other survival games, shame i find it just annoying in valheim
I did this with my askvin thanks to joelski's knowledge and other peoples knowledge aswell
I only find raids annoying when I no longer need what they drop. I look at them as delivery services until then.
Plus we have that Animal Whispers mead now, makes taming pretty easy.
Only raids I truly find useful are trolls raids, surtling raids, and fuling raids
troll raids for tree cutting if you still dont have access to the trollstav
surtling raids for obvious reasons, delicious cores
Chains. I always want chains, so the Wraiths can raid me as long as they want.
the miniboss raids are just annoying though, except maybe Geirhaffa's.
IIRC the animal whisper effect stacks if multiple players drink one each at the same time.
even after you kill the previous raid another spawns in
I get plenty of black metal from the night time fulings now, plus that "you broke the rules" raid. They aren't many, but at least they are starred.
Thungr and the other one are pretty nice imo
with 2x mwah.. chefs kiss..
Free BMS
Yep. Not that I really need that anymore either. Working on filling up our second BM chest with it all.
wish i knew to take some blackmetal with me to mistlands ๐ญ
30 should be enough
for all your sap needs
I was lucky my first time. It bordered a plains. So plenty to go get.
don't you need to smelt it thought?
You need soft tissue yes
Yep. Already had a tower once I had an extractor. Kind of go hand in hand. So built my blast furnace in there. Attracted stuff like a magnet, though.
gjall put me back to base and destroyed my ship so i guess i'll build a new ship and take 30 blackmetal with me once i play again
Yeah, thats good for 5 extractors. Take Iron too, to build you first stone cutters to repair towers with. Oh, and forge mats, so you can easily break down the iron in bridges with your hammer. Those are already bars, so no smelting.
Good opportunity for the devs to increase the speed of the feint's attack then
@odd helm halp!
?
ugh, it's a whole process then
i just went there without anything except whisplight this time haha
To make it easier on yourself, it always is.
If not you, it appears someone else is banning and removing the spammer.
oh gotcha
All the #building channels still need cleaning though.
Person isn't banned either it seems.

Fortunately the long boat holds are large, so pretty easy to bring various mats with you all the time.
yep, think im just gonna look for better island with mistlands and build a whole mini base there
That works, Did it with that plains I mentioned earlier. Helped there were like 6 roots along that border as well.
So much easier when your roots are on borders with biomes easier to handle than the Mistlands itself. You still get Misltands mobs, but a lot less of them when one direction doesn't allow for them at all.
Plus the plains mobs are great at killing hares.
and you don't need to haul a bunch of bm to make the extractor.
oh i hate gjall with passion
how am i always outta stamina when i need it x_x
atleast i found 4-6 roots right next to black forest ๐
crossbow will be the first thing i craft ๐ค
everytime I go to valheim reddit, I see posts complaining about raids. Do people not build moats or raised ground walls around their base??? Raids can be annoying but people complaining about it is WAY more annoying.
I just turn them off ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Iโve never built a moat or an earth wall, I just turn them off ๐ค
I mean yeah you can turn it off but people who complains also don't turn them off...
Raids have so much potential to be good
I build raised earth walls. So all I have to worry about are the fliers. Then I see people complain about those walls being ugly. I'm like, haven't you learned how to make them nice and straight? To then put stone floor tiles on top of them once you haves iron? I like my earth walls far better than stone walls. They aren't all white, they have patterns.
only thing I hate about raids are those stupid bats ๐คฃ
I started playing before turning them off was an option. So I've just learned to deal with them. I can even completely ignore them if I want to. Even the fliers. I just stay inside my main house. My animals are safe in their little homes. Heck, I can be inside doing food prep or crafting new sets of gear, and fail to realize a raid is even occurring. With good defenses and solid structures, they can't do anything significant.
we have two farms, 1 in the swamps for surtling cores and wisps, and 1 in the black forest for resin, eyes, woods, stones farm.
we can AFK for 10 hours straight and have 0 damage on our base. MOATS are built around the black forest farm and tree house base on the undestroyable trees on the swamp. NO DAMAGE
Oh if we start down the road of "potential"....
raised ground walls around base looks way too ugly
just remove the cauldron event and we're fine
Mine look great. Try making them look nice and straight. They look far better than any stone wall.
even if they are nice and straight, and even if you add stuff to them they still ugly!
Far better looking than stone walls.
i'll get extremely sad
They can. So do bonfires.
Well you can build raised walls then add stone walls for aesthetics.
wish there were more defense options than using cheese strategy like raising ground or just killing yourself everything
Stone walls are plain white and pasty looking. At least raised earth have some patterns to them. Use the Cultivator to give the tops some more color.
I like stone walls ๐ญ
Cheese strategy? Earth walls have been used for many centuries, because they were so effective. They are still effective.
so effective that they never took damage from anything!
They take damage now, even in Valheim. Have you not made it to Ashlands? Those lava things melt earth walls.
Ask me how I know.
those lava blobs wrecks your raised walls like cake.
Well, not that easily, but yeah, they need repairing now.
We once had 50 1* tamed askvins inside a raised walls only to be let loose by one lava blob.
i have not, mistlands is farthest
so far nothing has damaged raised ground
Nothing does until Ashlands, and I hope those things stay in the Ashlands.
Actually... I have never tested them versus a soldier. I just rely on black marble. Hmmm....
They can damage the ground beneath them, even dig shallow holes, so they might damage earth walls.
don't lox too damage ground beneath?
They cannot dig, but there is a lot of underground stones in the Plains they do damage.
They can make it look like they do, but they don't make actual holes, unless they stomp on rock nodes. Soldiers make actual shallow holes even in ground.
ahh, annoying when they pop up in your inventory
imagine running to get your corpse back then only to find out you have stones in your inventory.
I had one stay in place stomping long enough, just yesterday, to dig a decently deep hole.
So yeah, I'm going to have to make a earth wall and see what soldiers can do to them.
BTW, using soldiers to break apart the helmets and swords is about as fun as using trolls to do copper and tin. I was doing that yesterday, and is when I noticed them digging the hole in actual ground.
I still want to find a helmet that is around a Jotun Skull... ๐ญ
Haven't seen that. Coolest thing I saw, again this was yesterday, was a sword straight down the middle of a helmet.
If ever a skull should have been present...
I've seen swords through ribcages.
Which is why I want to see the helmet on a skull thing ๐
Don't recall if I have seen that. If I did it wasn't cool enough for me to remember it.
I think its near our 5th tower. If so I should go and get a screenshot of it, or just a picture of my screen. Its about as perfect as it can likely get in Valheim.
Our seed have 2 giants with swords inside the rib cages.
also a giant with no soft tissue inside the skull, only rocks. he must be dumdum when he's still alive
is soft tissue supposed to just lay on ground inside skull?
Doesn't anyone share the seed code at https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202740443352137838 ?
Only if it has been mined/broken.
oh okay, because i saw one and it was empty. so i need to break it
he a dumdum too if theres no soft tissue hahaha
question for seeds:
if one copied or used the same seed, will they copy the structures built, the traders, or anything progress related?
traders are in the same place, nothing progress related, that's how it works in other games atleast
i would imagine same for valheim
that's why people share maps where bosses and traders are close to spawn to speedrun
or in same continent or something
ooh speaking of swords thru ribcage, just found one ๐
Jotun's using only swords and no other weapons is probably due to one-handed swords still, inexplicably and without cause, reason or valid explanation, not having MtP ๐
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? valhein - unity 6000.0.46f1
Lets not post the same thing in several channels. Also, you're more likely to get better help if you give actual details of what you need.
How big is the difficulty level increase between Mistlands and Ashlands? Beat Queen today on a one shot, but everyone says Ashlands will make me want to cry.
It's not a difficulty spike as much as a mob density spike.
There are more enemies in the war biome.
But if you use magic or bring Demolisher it is a cakewalk.
we'll see about that ๐
DPS person can use whatever. Tank person just take Demolisher and create infinite space with the knockback.
Mages - fireball.
There is a learning curve and all, but with a party like that, it should be relatively painless.
AoE damage is obviously your friend given the biome is about volume of enemies.
i'm the dps mage so i feel like the damage is all on me haha
You will be a god if you have staff of fireball.
Also make sure you check in with Bog Witch.
Mistlands Feast gives EITR so you can run EEF food setup for excellent stats.
i first beat the game about four years ago when yag was the last released bit so it's so exciting to be coming in and (starting to) go after Fader, the current end guy
appreciate very much all the advice
Well, if its the only fight you have had with her, she was hardest my first time, now I beat her pretty easily, and I do melee. So just get familiar with everything, and you will be laying waste in no time.

is it always dark in the ashlands?
Sad
Yup.
So I made those feast things and boy are they fantastic, the destruction on them is amazing too
does each biome have one?
They do have their uses ๐
And yes.
Nice base food
And they look so nice, add a good homely feel
Base and resource farming food.
Normal food is still better for combat.
anyone starting a new world
Definitely
Had 2 or 3 in a row yesterday with none. then the next one had 5. They all had seal pieces, though.
Ive noticed something irrelevant but also irregular: the iron helmet can be upgraded one tier beyond the other iron armor parts for a given forge level. I do not know if it is intentional.
VINNY FOUND TURNIPS
naturally I find three plants back to back
Oooof, I do not recommend getting hit by a starred fuling javelin
did you explode?
Yes, yes I did
Pierce resistance from Root Harnesk reduces the damage of spear fulings significantly.
It's not a problem if I actually block in time
I just happened to have aggro'd a group of them by accident
brought my friend to the swamps for the first time
all he can say was
"WHY IS THIS PLACE SO MISERABLE"
smelting iron and forging it made him happy tho
I happen to like the swamps a lot. Its my favourite biome.
Why?
Second worst biome in the game if you ask me.
nothing better than an empty cart behind you and a row of twinkling green lights in front.
Because you get your first battleaxe during swamp era.

just used my first 35 iron and exhaled...
instantly sprinting into to the swamp to use it for no reason, first hard mode run in a bit, had to laugh when i crit the first drauger he just dies.
#valheim-help message please help me
Is the bear trophy really rare? I've killed like 11 bears
10% drop, but it can feel a lot worse.
It's RNG, I'm at 23 and have none so far.
I like campfires, but they can be expensive on stone early game.
10% chance, but due to RNG it can take long, I got my first trophy after 35ish bears during my run I started during PTB.
Then again, I visited one of my old challenge worlds, killed 3 bears and got 2 trophies.
theyโre neutral to slash damage so axe or sword. you can parry their lunging swipe with a wooden shield
Ty
you CAN very slowly shoot them to death with fire arrows or beat them with a torch because they dont like to be on fire and will run away from you
After defeating few of them you can also make another slash weapon that is effective against them.
bears are easy if you smoke
Torches work pretty well early on, but you need 4 or 5 of them. Camp-fires are better. Once you've got the bear claws you can use those.
I always thought that by "using" a torch people meant to just hold it in your hand while you hack at the bear with a sword in the other hand
why would you use a puny torch to smack that huge ass bear...
tbf it takes a whole day to down the hp with early weaps, no torch would be quite a challenge
I mean, sure, I can see how just 5 pieces of wood and 5 pieces of resin is a bargain when compared to mining enough materials for a bronze sword, but still...
Hitting the bear with a torch works better than some of the other weapons, it catches them alight, and they're easy to make and have the added effect of keeping greydwarves at a distance
If you come across a bear before you get bronze, camp-fires and torches are great weapons
If you want to know how to kill a bear fast, watch how the speedrunners do it.
||Dyrnwyn|| should be very strong against bear :D
swamp dungeons have a chance to have iron doors inside?!?!?! just found one
Yep ๐ tho they are quite rare
no kidding!!!!! played through the game 3 times and first time seeing this
What playthroughs are you guys on? I'm on my fifth character. (Bjorn V) I usually play with a group of friends but they always lose interest. This time it's a solo playthrough!
4th, my sisters first time playing valheim
I am honestly not even sure anymore
Maybe somewhere between 10 and 20?
I love adventuring with people and exploring but it always seems to get tricky when everyone wants a fair split of resources but individual participation isn't close to the same.
I think I'm on my 4th playthrough as well, but the first 3 are all a couple years old, so I still haven't played much of mistlands and ashlands
Sorta Ashlands spoilers
Are there any recipies that use bonemaw meat?
Not so far, we will see if any are added in DN ๐
Makes me wonder if we'll get a frost counter part to Drynwyn too
Lost count.
Like another quest weapon? ๐ค
Would be interesting, but we will have to see if there will be anything like quest again and if yes then if it will be weapon again ๐
One could assume cold maybe not being the best damage type in Deep North, but we shall see.
Honestly an armor set would be cool too. My coins are on a bow though, fire sword and frost bow. Good duality there
That's what Drywyn's for, the devs said that the Ashlands and Deep North are about as difficult as each other. Whichever you do first will give you a headstart in the other
Drynwyn will go absolutely crazy in the Deep North, so I believe it
Fire sword is mediocre at best, doubt it will go crazy anywhere ๐คทโโ๏ธ
fire vs ice = good
10 fire damage doesn't care how weak you are ๐
If Dyrnwyn gets something more special update when the patch is here, then it might become much better, currently it has no special effects and only 10 additional fire damage.
Sadly very low fire dmg, but its still decent in my book ๐
Lightning sword better.
Agreed on that ๐
50% bonus damage, is 50% bonus damage dawg. But I agree, for the quest I did to get it it does feel underbaked
Primal sword underrated. ๐
Green is for bows.

Green is for brick on a stick

I didn't even know lightning was generally the best, I just chose it cuz it was cool
No ๐๐
And axes. ๐
Green is for bows.
Primal axes goated.
๐คจ
Stop with this blasphemy..
Green is great color too.
Lightning is my favorite element, not just in Valheim and blue is my favorite color. Needless to say I'm EXTREMELY based
Biased*
Rooting something just to walk back into range of them hitting me makes the root pointless.
Which is why green is for bows.
Based.
That's why its so good on the mace, it has really good knockback
No. ๐๐๐
Yes
No. ๐๐
Yes
No. ๐
Yes
No.
Yes
Sev just hates knockback ๐ I dont like it too, its not for everyone ๐
No.
Easy now.
I do not hate knockback. Demolisher is awesome.
Indeed
Troll.
I've never really used the hammers tbh, I need my shield
knockback on 1-h maces* ๐
There you go ๐
-# past frostner
Phawk Frostner.
...
Frostner slaps
when in doubt, use Frostner
Agreed
Maaaaaaybe not in Deep North tho, we'll see
*as a wall decoration and nothing more.
after using silver sword and black metal atgeir in the last few biomes, i went for frostner in mistlands and i hate it more and more everyday ๐
atgeir was fun, i need to still try battleaxe at some point
No better time for trying battle axes since we got 2 new ones recently ๐
pole is fantastic weap once skilled. A tank & pole combo would slap
spin2win always nice in everygame!
Tank? Atgeir + Berserker Mead = Spin2Win spam without any stamina cost ๐
one shield can hold off 20 mobs without worrying, while another can slap from behind. Mobile slap tank
Anyone have suggestions for good hosting services?
hi guys i see like if someone make server not anyone join in asian is not many player play

For servers for Asian people, look in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
It may take some time before someone replies in there, though; given the time difference between that part of the Globe and Europe.
You can always post there yourself and see if anyone wants to join your game.
Do we gain skill progress when we hit each others in pvp?
Yep
Dont know ๐ค will check
eh, not a big deal. Ill probably get my silver the proper way, since im worming my way to bonemass
I lucked out and found some exposed silver.
Yep you can detect it with it ๐ like a stagbreaker it says "too hard"
neat
how come gjall always make appearance at the worst possible time?
fighting seeker soldier and seeker on a small island with nothing to hide in and only water around you? well, time for first gjall in a hour!
Anyone ever take an old character into a new world? Like no gear no items just the character into a brand new world?
Few times, yeah.
It's funny collecting an item for the first time in that world and not getting a bunch of pop ups lol
seems pretty strong if you keep your levels
I wonder if there is any recipe involving bear meat planned? Just figuring if I should save all the bear meat filling up coffers, or just bake them into coal. Some cooking xp and better exchange rate than the obliterator..
Running around like a madman with 60 sprint. Feels so good.
Dinged 100 last weak. Now I really don't wanna die!
The way to deal with gjalls is to have a bow skill of 80 and shoot them dead to death
I remember playing with a friend and he was spooked with a gjall and was soon really surprised as how fast I killed it
my bow is like 20-30, crossbow 13 or something ugh
but yeah i try to aim for their bellies for extra damage
Crossbows arent good for gjalls
Never even made the crossbow, I'd get a total brain meltdown over the reload time, so I just stay clear
Unfortunately crossbows are just objectively worse than bows because of how hard bows scale with skill level.
To be fair I dont even know when to use crossbows.
good ambush opener, then swap for something else if the victim doesn't die immediately?
technically the crossbow skill also give a massive increase in performances but good luck raising it
Crossbow skill does increase damage and reload speed, yes.
But no where close to the attack speed boost the regular bow gets.
yeah but they are already stronk and all that
also I read the skill increases knockback?
anyway, doesnt matter. It takes 50 years of continuous playing to raise the crossbow skill to 20 anyway
I personally see the simplest solution as giving the cross bow the ability to shoot through enemies. +1 per 20 skill.
Its really meant to be a "sniper". That alone is sufficient.
The skills in this game raise at such different rates, its like they threw darts at a dart board to determine it
And that pierce bonus would be irrelevant because its impossible to raise that skill
I used one in my Hard-setting game in the swamp yesterday.
Even a low level crossbow with bone bolts is able to one shot a Draugr.
Two shot an Elite.
Something I couldn't do with my Draugr Fang with Iron head (I found these) arrows.
Also, the first 3-4 kills put that crossbow skill to 3. So early leveling does go fast.
I have done a billion perfect dodges and my dodge skill is like 10?
i should probably level up my bow skill then
You have not dodged for 5787 days continuously...
bow feels terrible rn
around level 40~50, you do notice that its much more manageable
How I train my bow skill is that I bring a finewood bow and my crude bow in the plains and I shoot loxes
Sometime I go in the swamps if I want to relax more.
Bonemass.
Only skill I ever actively tried to raise is blocking, every time I get the skelly raid I backpedal with the whole horde after me for a while
Otherwise, bows get funny when your skill is at 80+
Everything else grows pretty well organically as you play anyway, enough so at any rate. Except possibly cooking, I'm getting annoyed at how slow that is.
think my highest is running, around 70
it's been around 70 for few days now thought, i keep dying and losing progress
No one has been able to touch my swim skill ๐
real vikings go melee
My skills before fighting the Queen are Run-100, Jump-100. Clubs-96, Swords-72 Bow-67, Crossbow-21, Swim-21,Sneak-51. Cooking is 24 and Crafting is 32. Farming is 34.
Gotta bump that swim level Robert ๐
Thats what I have meads and high stamina foods for.
Plus that one trinket.
Not to mention Eikthyr's power for, now.
There is a swimming trinket?
Shields is 35. All magic skills and dodge is at 0. Fishing is also 21.
Yep. Needs the serpent trophy.
How do you possibly gain adrenaline while swimming?
No idea, I haven't made it, let alone used it.
I have a small spot cut out near my dock yard for swimming practice. With a little sign that says swim at your own risk
With all the new training stuff I've kinda made little areas everywhere for working up skills on this new world save and I gotta say it's helped my newer players
wow, those are really high compared to mine and i'm at same point
do you remember what day is it in game for you?
ah, fins of serpent! i just built it yesterday, but haven't used it yet
one inventory slot for.. swimming trinket. i don't think so ๐
Probably not while swimming, unless hitting 10 times with bare fists which is possible on water, but activating Eikthyr before going to water grants 10 adrenaline which is enough to trigger the swimming trinket and swim 2 minutes without using stamina to swimming.
620 ish.
ah makes more sense then, i'm not even half that ๐
@neon steppe if you need a target to beat:
My swim is 93 ๐
Lets see, axes are 64, wood cutting is 72, Pick is 74, Fists are 13. polearms is 26, spears is 0. I think thats everything.
Nooooooo. My beloved spear ๐ญ
I had mine at like 30 before I even hit Swamp.
(I made the mistake of killing a one-star bear with a spear before realizing...)
I dislike spear
Thats with zero deaths. Pretty much wrapping up Mistlands, heading to the Queen.
I was an axe man until I tried spear and now I am a spear man.
But if they make the axe secondary into a throw, I will return to being an axe man.
I love the Bow kiting with bow seams the most save for Trolls and Lox ect
I like axes. It wouldn't be so high if I didn't. Swords I got that high after starting to use them in the plains, as I normally do.
axes are interesting for a quick play through maybe as you can save on a lot resources because you need the axe anyway
I normally don't even get my first point in bow until I sail long enough to meet a snek. ๐
As far as resource conservation goes I found the best way is to stick to just a couple weapon types and never make metal armor
what is a snek?
Axes work fine. Most weapons do, in most cases. Like I also use porcupine well into the Mistlands. It works great against the seekers. Kills them pretty quick, even compared to Mistwalker. Which I also use.
๐
I just sticked to clubs and round shield + bow
And in another gameplay to sword and bow
Clubs work great, even into Ashlands. I'll start using it again once I get that Ashlands mace.
If you're purely going to conservation, weapon recommendation would be Wooden Club -> Iron Mace.
Because Club only needs bones to upgrade and they are plentiful.
But I sort of make everything in the bronze age ๐
I feel your pain
What actually bugs me most about the bronze stage is tin. Running all that coast line just to find enough to make bronze.
I usually get all the armor too
You can really take advantage of the karve for tin mining
oof i think mine was 13 at highest, probably back to 1 at this point lol
you just swim circles to level it up?
I got bored while smelting 1743 iron so... Yeah. Swimming while waiting.
Why running the coast line?
Just sail along it with a Karve until you see tin. Hop off, mine, hop on, drop it in the cargo hold (which can contain 120 tin), sail on until you find another location.
The 120 tin is already enough for all items, if you add the 30 or more you can hold in your inventory, you're certainly good.
It's actually easier as getting the copper.
i'll do some lox hunting with bow today and try to get it up a little, maybe i like it more when it's higher
Pretty much, or swim into a wall. Just like you can level sneak while walking into a wall. ๐ You have to have creatures near by, but still... walking into a wall.
The correct way to level swimming is to stop your boat a fair distance from a leviathan, swim to and and collect resources, and swim back without dying
i hate how much it uses stamina especially in mistlands where i need to jump all the time anyway so im always out of it
i think i did first 2 bosses with ranged and never really bothered with it again (except for drakes in mountain)
Leveling it makes it cost less ๐
I only use bows mostly for Gjall. Mostly melee everything else. I used to be a very heavy bow user, but since Tower Shields are so effective, I melee more than anything.
By the time you get to mistlands your jump and run should be so high tho considering all the jumping you do in mountains and running just throughout the game
True
In my experience theyโre atleast 40 jump 50 run
yeah my run 70 and jump ~40
I mean Iโm ready to fight moder and my run is 47
Also the elder ability is so useful Iโve just been using that possibly better than bonemass resistances since crystal heart can accomplish same thing
My run was 100 before we even got into Mistlands. I got Jump to 100 just a couple of days ago. Of course, we will soon be in Ashlands, so I'll start dying. So the honeymoon phase is nearly over.
Hi, has anyone encountered a combat arena?
Like an online server with a combat arena or ingame structure
Probably a server. I used to be on one for a while.
The new skeleton arena
there is a skeleton arena right next to my base ๐
I can't find one
they are decently rare i guess. i've seen only 2 in like 8 fully explored islands
There's only 5 of them in your game world and they only appear in unexplored area.
Damn fr theyโre limited?
Ahhhh, okay thanks
Skeleton arenas? Never even heard of them before. This a new thing?
It's the combat arena found in world since the Call to Arms update.
Whatโs this skeleton arena look like I havenโt seen them either
Huh, have not found one yet.
it's just wooden small arena with skeleton spawn inside
you can't miss it if you run near it
Considering how heavily I explore, thats saying something.
They spawn in meadows?
Oh, so like the towers in the mountains that spawn skellies. Just an arena structure.
i saw one in black forest too, or it was some weird thing where there is little meadows patch and it spawned there
black forest next to plains, sometimes they have those little little meadows between them
Yeah
why does my ashvine say it needs more room to grow. i thought it was supposed to climb surfaces
i tried it once but the skeleton spawn so slow i just killed 2 and left to level my atgeir elsewhere lol
I haven't seen one yet, but I may have explored most of mine in my current world before the new update went into effect.
I've found you do have to put a fair amount of space between them, and other crops, to get them to grow consistently. I had a high failure rate at first, putting them too close together, and near other things. Even structures.
does block skill only level when you hold block forever and not "perfect block" or whatever the parry thing is
i tore out a chunk of my wall behind it and it sprouted into a big shrub. then i rebuilt the wall
Parry actually earns you more xp than just blocking.
And (for some reason) costs less stamina.
how is my blocking so low, 90% of my gameplay is parrying ๐
No idea, I block only, and still manage to get it into the 30's.
you can't parry with tower shield? never used one
Nope, They are block only.
oof, my levels are really low i been dying way too much in mistlands. i gotta focus today ๐
Tower Shields are simple to use, and I don't get staggered either. As long as my HP are good, and I am using the best shield available.
likely same problem as using a high damage weapon
you kill things faster so you get less xp for less overall attacks
similarly if you parry everything, you parry and then immediately kill it
so only one xp gain per enemy.
even run has dropped to 62
iirc Elder is still the fastest block trainer.
Part of the reason I
use Tower Shields is its hard to miss a block. Miss a parry and you often get killed. So I found them much more reliable for just staying alive. Which is why I switched to them, and stayed with them.
3 Elders is even faster.

guess i do some leveling today and leave rest of mistlands for later day
That's so many roots to block ๐
Or go to mistlands and level your skills while you explore and make progress
i dont wanna level my bow in mistlands ๐ญ
Level bow on golems, with wood arrows.
Of course we now have that target. So that might work just as well, plus you recover all your arrows.
How I did it is that I got them on one place, raised earth walls around, raised higher earth pillar bit away, stood on the pillar and blocked the ranged attacks with Serpent shield.
There were lots of lumber as by-product behind the pillar lol.
Why do all that? The Elder can't even hurt you through a Serpent Shield, or Iron Tower Shield for that matter. Similar stats for both shields. Aside from the pierce resistance.
What is the Use for the one Icons on the serving tray
I'm not sure what your asking.
Ranged attack is quite fast. Positioning where you are blocking it and multiple roots is the fastest.
How did you even get to Mistlands without having bow skill at a comfortable level?
I mean just using the bow when you need a bow gets your skill level about where it needs to be, organically. No dedicated leveling necessary.
My bow skill is directly related to how many sneks I run into.
So it is very possibly for me to hit Mistlands with 0 skill ๐
my loxes arent bangin ๐
Well, if that is the chosen playstyle then there would come no sudden need of having the skill ๐
i just melee everything
While I'm still squishy and weak, I shoot pointy sticks at big baddies before they get close, that way they die faster in melee. And the biggest baddies can't bonk me, which is a good bonus.
I prefer melee, but I choose my fights
they need to be tamed, fed and not scared / alerted
and very close to each other
yeah that is possible, takes a while to pop out the little one
They also need to be close enough to each other for long enough to get "inspired" - too big a pen and they might stand at opposite ends and just glower at each other
I've been putting off taming lox. I just reached ashlands and keep finding recipes that require lox hide, sp I figured I might as well raise some
I've had to tear up half my shag carpets:(
I do it rarely, they are taking such a big structure, you can easily hunt them with pierce damage for instance
they may also destroy your base if you do the pen wrong
I have never in 2,500 hours tamed a lox
I just repurposed my stone walled barley farm
those stone walls will be gone if you get a bat raid
As mounts they are next to useless since getting them - and keeping them - on a boat is more trouble than it is worth. And for meat/pelts there's simply no reason. Hunting is more efficient.
I remember taming loxes and basically never, ever used them for anything.
I'd love two things to make tamed mounts more useful - a tether so they won't run off to kill things after you dismount, and a transport cage for boat journeys
not hard to transport on a boat really if its a Drakkar
Every single askvin I put a saddle on ran off to kill stuff and died
There aren't enough player made structures here to spawn a raid. Its literally just a stone square and a portal
thats good then, they might also damage the walls if they try to kill any non lox plain enemy as well though
Im mostly doing it for fun, and so I can mass produce carpets and meat for decoration. Mounting them made it easy to move them from their taming pit into their pen
Fair enough. I have two flocks spawning just outside my house every day, so I have coffers full of skins and meat anyways. Taming and breeding would just be a waste of berries hehe
My main base is in meadows with an ever growing pack of wolves. ๐ i dont want more critters living here to further decrease my framerate haha
I got tired of trying to perfectly spawn proof the entire compound. Now if anything dares spawn here it will be eaten within a few seconds
Gods, must be a lot of space then? Spawn proofing pretty much comes naturally as you build is my experience. When I build perimeter walls I put torches at regular intervals, mostly to actually see stuff at night but they also serve to spawn proof. That's usually enough as is.
Ya. My base has slowly grown bigger and bigger. I use a portal hub to get around it ๐คฃ
I run no-portals, so I build paved roads haha ๐
since I was building my base and I was going to waste a bunch of time close to them, I kept taming all the lox that kept spawning and it was kinda useless: once they were tamed they would maybe spawn a small one and then proceed to die to all the deathsquitos around them...
heck, one time an entire herd literally run away somewhere for some reason
the only reason someone could ever have to tame them is if they don't have their base in the plains, since going back and forth might not be ideal just to get lox pies
is it rly hard to get a wolf trophy
No harder than any other trophy.
Before this no-portals run I never built a proper base in Plains, I'd just have a farming outpost for growing the necessary crops. Even then the sheer amount of lox you run into whenever you peek into the plains will keep you supplied with their drops, unless you actively avoid them.
As with most other things in this kind of game - when you really want a specific thing to drop (that has a random % chance to drop) it will repeatedly NOT drop until you think you are cursed. It's just the way things are - magic.
does crypt resources like iron scrap repawns?
No
In a later biome there is a certain resource that does respawn -along with some mobs to defend it - but not in any crypts.
Yellow mushrooms respawn. Iron does not.
Which kinda makes sense
I remember once thinking yellow mushrooms were going to be a important mat since they respawn, but no, they just respawn because thats what they do. ๐ They are used for what? 1 mead? 2?
For a very short while they were useful as stamina food, but yeah - stamina meads, that's it.
In my few runs I didn't use bows at all but only spear for ranged, which is quite effective against Gjalls.

Which means useless because stamina meads are garbage ๐
Yeah, I might use them for stamina for about 10 minutes in early game, but after that, I need them to make maybe 12 meads, then never use them again.
I use stamina meads when fishing, that's it
the value you get from tasty mead is unbeatable
Whenever I hook a lvl 3 fishy and my 200+ stamina bar disintegrates before I can release the fricking mouse button
I rarely need them, even in big battles. I'm much more likely to just hold my shield in block position and just wait for my stamina to recover, than drink a mead.
Tasty is useless to me, the way I play I get absolutely no benefit from it, just the worsened health regen
only use I can find stamina meads is fishing just like what derleth said
And the fact Lingering blocks normal stamina pots, but stacks with Tasty ๐
Probably because in the games code the tasty mead isnt considered a "stamina mead" even tho it has something to do with the stamina
I don't think there is anything "probably" about it. I think the interactions are intentional.
Combine that with bronze pendant too.
I love lingering since I never use the regular pots anyway
Bronze Armor though ๐
I do use lingering stamina a lot. Makes the Mistlands much easier, for sure.
correct if im wrong but isnt rested buff like a 150% increase in stamina regen?
bronze pendant active gives 25%
100% IIRC.
plus the tasty mead 50%
Ahh still nice
Tasty is +100% to stamina -50% to HP regen.
Worth the -50% hp regen
Have I misunderstood tasty. I read everywhere how amazing it is but I can honestly not ever see it give me any benefit. If I understand right you cannot actually use stamina while it is in effect or the effect is cancelled, right?
For a short period of time too. So I don't get why anyone worries about the - to HP regen.
The length is basically one HP tick.
Stamina is practically another hp bar lmao if you think about it
Plus you can use it while swimming.
If it runs out you're as good as dead
So I have always looked at Tasty like a healing debuff, not something positive haha
Its such a short period of time, its much more of a positive than a negative.
Tasty mead can help you in a pinch, especially in very hard combat where you are constantly fighting enemies due to spawn rates being increased
That's just what I don't understand - when I'm fighting I am constantly using stamina, if I understand tasty right it will only give me regen if I just walk, doing absolutely nothing. That is so rarely something you can do that I have just ditched it.
That reminds me, are the Dvergr mugs unlimited tasty mead? Or have a defined number of uses? So far I have used it twice, and it appears to be refilled to give me a third drink.
It uses your meads in your inventory
so if u have poison resistance in your inventory it will drink that
but if you have multiple different meads I believe it randomizes
which one you drinj
Ahhh... OK, that makes more sense than being unlimited.
Imagine Queen fight: You fight at the top area and get bit overwhelmed, you jump down and while gliding you chuck one tasty mead and gain your stamina back quickly and can continue the fight.
its a retreat kind of potion, helps you get back in the action
aaannd, by the time you hit the bottom, the negative HP thing is over.
Yeah. Seems so extremely situational that I still doubt - for me - it is worth the inventory slot. Probably my own fault for subconsciously sprinting non-stop all the time... (Also the reason Run is always my highest skill)
I rarely run into stamina issues in combat though
Yeah, constant sprinting during fights is one way to run out stamina quickly.
I could probably learn to use Tasty, but it would require re-wiring a lot of engrained behaviour
Its part of why I use lingering mead, and the Eikthyr power more than any other power, etc... Stamina is critical to get back ASAP. Even before I get lingering stamina, I'll use the other meads as needed, just to be able to keep attacking.
Especially against a boss.
I probably survive only due to having Run at 100 ๐
Stamina is very important
thats why video game characters like scout from team fortres 2 has more survivability than heavy
speed is important aswell
just sailing out in open water and theres a fuling mage fighting a serpent
Note, I have Run and Jump at 100 at this point. I still use the stamina meads and Eikthyr power more than any other mead or powers throughout my game play.
Yeah, which is also why Fenris all the way.

Fast or targets that move alot more have more chances to survive than a slower target
because they can change to a better position
I mostly sprint as compensation for the heavy armour penalty. In Fenris it not really necessary in the same way - but fun regardless, that kinda mobility can be fun in combat.
dodge better, and generally avoid dmg all together
just don't get hit
I wear nothing but heavy armor. Not losing HP is important too, even though my Tower shields are responsible for preventing most of that. Even in heavy armors, you still move and run fast enough to outrun everything else. Even squittos can't hit me until I stop to kill them.
Too fumbly fingers, I always get hit eventually, I depend on being able to take the odd hit from those hard hitting buggers..
I just swat them mid air
Fenris combined with Ratatosk and active Nimble anklet is quite speedy.
before they sting me
add moder power
I was running. You can't do that without stopping and drawing your weapon, and turning towards them. Can I still hit them before they hit me? Sure. Maybe 50% of the time.
i swapped to padded, was using fenris and drinking ratatosk 24/7 before
and honestly, heavy armor feels sooooo slow i hate it ๐
It does take getting used to. Just remember your still faster than everything else.
now im runnin fenris leggins and hood with root harnesk, exploring plains, leveling my bow and farming black metal ๐
I have to do that adjustment every time I switch from Troll to iron.
You can mix up heavy helmet for mix of moderate armor rate and speed. ๐
Last run I went to Ashlands with Vile chest and legs plus carapace helmet, was quite nice. Not comfortable enough yet to go full Vile set there.
My wife will. IMO its a step up from the full root set she has gone in with the last two times.
Just losing the weakness to fire should be a big one for her.
Its an ugly looking set of armor, though. Guess that makes sense, being made from an undead creature.
There are more physical damage sources than fire damage tho. In my experience the fire damage is quite easy to avoid.
The Harnesk itself is still busted in Ashlands, but I've learned to be comfortable without it too. Ask set all the way.
Although yesterday I went to my bow only world to get vilebone set to try it out with bows, plus the fenring trinket. Damage goes quite nuts with their combination.
We have yet to make that set. We were getting close last time, but we quit to play with some friends from the beginning. We will likely go back and finish that off as well, once we wrap this one up.
Random and relatively harmless complaint but why do you fist attack after breaking a tool / weapon??
I'd prefer that it just completely cancels the attack rather than locking me into it
We still clicked to attack...
Honestly I'd prefer if broken things weren't unequipped and just said "BROKEN" or something when you tried to click.
Irritates me too, when I was just using the cultivator.
it might be a minor thing but it annoys me majorly lol
Which is the only thing I use until it breaks.
So I just watch that bar closely, since I hate punching one of the things I just planted, destroying it.
this game should have cheese
Which I only have to worry about with Barley. Its the only thing I plant enough of to break a lvl 3 cultivator. Which is around 740 items.
you could plant less
I could, but I like going a week or more of daily playing without having to plant again.
1,000 barley enables me to do that.
i keep 2 x lvl 3 cultivators in my farm
i dont have forge in there so that way i dont have to teleport to fix stuff mid planting
I only had to plant that much twice this play through, and I still have over 1,000 barley in my chests.
I think its around 14 stacks. A lot of that also has to do with how many fuling villages we still are destroying.
Yeah, I do that too, since my wife is helping with the planting more than ever before this play through.
i was curious about this, but ive never in my life used bows other than for things in the water or air, im also itching to try a hammer run to power spike at plains with porcupine plus vile plus bracelet of the brave, crazy blunt and pierce increases
Yeah, could imagine those combinations doing lots of damage.
from 23 to 43 with a nice amount of lox meat for meatplatters ๐
i there any schedule when the game is going to be on sale?
It's 20 bucks I don't think you're going to see it cheaper than that for awhile
It will likely next be for Christmas sales here in the US. The last one was just a few weeks ago.
I GOT A PET ROCK !!
im so jealous.
having trouble finding infested mines, are there any signs where they could be or something?
like specific shape of mountain
โฐ๏ธโฐ๏ธโฐ๏ธ
(3 spikes - or 5 technically - pointing out in relatively the same direction)
Abandoned Dverger towers or staircases with wisp lanters next to them.
That as well
one trick i use is take my time and listen for seekers and go toward them, and/or notice where seekers come from, there's always a handful outside infested mines and keeps and can aggro to you to give away location
and yeah always check for basements in abandoned towers, check any wisp lights you see
There's only a few biomes in Valheim which make me physically pause my music while playing.
Plains, Mountains, Mistlands, Ashlands
"few"
ya, sound is super helpful in mists obv, also hearing ticks to find skulls
