#valheim-chat

Aye, I'm about to build a warehouse because my new manor doesn't really have any storage
ah fair I was curious since u said u had a fair amount π
all my old games were on dedicated server so all I had was my inventory π and yesterday I was tilted because I kept dieing like a noob to try and get my last trophies for plains boss.
Now comes the extremely painful process of transporting it home
Right. That's enough for one-and-a-half-Valheim day.
Wait I'm a genius, instead of bring the iron to the forge from the port, why don't I bring the forge to the port
Does kinda mean the tunnel I spent 4 hours digging is redundant, but oh well
would have to move forge+forge upgrades, kiln and charcoal stuff ye, cant move the smelted bar as well
Well I had only built a very small forge at my new home, the reason I went to the swamp in the first place was to get surtling cores so that I could actually smelt things at a decent rate and have enough charcoal to fuel them, so it's no big deal to move the tiny set up I have
It can all be moved with a cart.
But that applies to both options.
im glad I play with a buddy makes all that easier
I know right, nothing better than using your friend as an improved cart by dragging them with a harpoon
wait.... if we enable pvp is that a thing hahahaha
Yeah the issue is that despite my best efforts I can't make a perfectly smooth ramp through a hill
Yep
Harpoon allows lots of utility and fun
hahahaha funny, prolly not as fast as us running with moder back and forth π
we dont really use the harpoon, not even for the sea serpent.
My buddy jumps on his head and I shoot the last arrow to kill the serpent so he loots most of it.
Theoretically it could be the fastest transportation method if the stars aligned and you managed to launch your friend very precisely back to base using the harpoon catapulting method lol
It's been 155 in game days and I am yet to even find where to summon Moder because I have questionable priorities :p
But other than that, a player with 4325283475238455kg on them shows nowhere near as much resistance as a cart with the same weight
Easier solution:
Let your buddy stand on a cart with all the heavy stuff in the inventory up to the point he's overburdened.
The pull the cart yourself.
It will act as if it's empty, making moving lots of heavy stuff a lot easier.
oh cart gets affected by weight? never paid attention I mostly use it to farm a cart full of wood.
It most certainly does
Like 4-5 stacks of copper ore and you won't be able to go up the slightest slope with it
we are at like 180days in our game about to slay plains boss, debating if I wanna upgrade before taking up this boss.
Up to 700kg the cart doesn't care. Once you go over that you'll start to notice it "be heavier".
all the little things this game have never cease to amaze me π
"The cart doesn't care". I had no idea it had feelings, now I can enjoy punishing it for flipping over a raspberry bush
if im fully upgraded silver(mountain armor) armor, black metal shield 2 and sword 2, you think im gonna have a really hard time on this Yagluth? Moder was really easy im kinda scared for this one
He's a pretty easy boss with slow attacks
Hard time on Yag only happens if you don't bring fire resist wine.
Just bring fire res wine and it trivializes most of it
oh alright bringing fire res wine π and loads of healing ones
Should be even easier now with the CTA update letting you parry and dodge to your heart's desire
Abuse those dodge iframes cause why not
after this we are gonna focus on getting the full padded armor before I head to mistland.
And a silver sword instead of the BM one.
looks at my fully upgraded silver armour and weapons without having fought Moder yet maybe I have over prepared slightly
I rather be super over prepared for this as I dont know shit about mistland.
I only upgraded my silver armor/weapon after him π I usually upgrade after killing the boss
unfortunately im super dumb and put mine in my obliterator sooooo yeah ill use my bm sword for now xd
Ehm Moder is a "her".
Fader is the "him".
oops mb im sorry Mother! dont cry!
I wanted to build my new house in the plains because it's pretty, however that did mean I was rather vulnerable to having my insides turned into outsides
Fader... is that like ashland boss?
Indeed.
ive been wanting to move the base somewhere else as we are close to spawn but meeeh idk
im sure mistland would be great if not for the mist and prolly the ennemies around
Also are the bears in Valheim okay? They seem like they need a visit to the vet
Unfortunately, euthanasia via sword seems to be the only viable treatment.
Had a friend who liked to call the boss Daddy during the entire fight and I couldn't take it seriously, no wonder we ended up dying
The unfortunate consequence of having bosses use such names lol
The swamp boss exists as Nito to me, which is funny considering I've never even played dark souls
Find yourself a plains island close to the Mistlands, or better, with a piece of Mistlands and you're good. For now anyway.
Because you can grow all crops that way.
like here?#screenshots message
Can we harpoon items yet in this game?
That may be an option, yes.
You don't need that much room in the Mistlands for the crops, as there's only two you can grow there anyway.
So if you're able to get an area of about 20 meters long and 10 meters wide of non-obstructed land in the Mistlands and use 8 meters wide as cultivated ground, you got more than enough room for the crops.
If you're even more lucky and get a root in, you've got an absolute golden spot.
Other than the serpent and the boar?
I don't think so.
Id like to harpoon tree logs
oh completely forgot some crops only grow in certain biomes
greydwarves are not allowed to have caps any longer
at first I thought it was only greydwarves with their weird pathing sometimes, that shit is so annoying. Like you hit them and they run around you to reach you or something while you run after em.
ugh i've died like 10 levels off today
i hate mountains π₯Ή
time to leave for plaains finally
that was me yesterday doesnt help I get tilted after a couple of death and almost stop fighting back x) wasnt a good day yday.
Everything other than Mistlands shrooms grows in Plains.
So it's easy to have a "main base" in the Plains with a small farming outpost the Mistlands that you just portal to.
mistland are like much further than spawn too right? thats why ive been thinking more about it, prolly gonna be a long trip on boat for ore and stuff.
Or do what I do and main base in the Mountain with both of the other biomes just being farming outposts π
havent spotted any so far while exploring first few biomes.
It has a minimum radius of denial where it cannot generate near the spawn point iirc.
makes sense would be horrible to get rng'd by a seed with all those dangerous biomes surrounding ur spawn π
I used to joke that Moder and Fader were married, they definitely got divorced
Losing a whole wing in a divorce means he had a bad attorney
I swear to god I thought you were a stardew valley chatbox just now
I'm sure there's some connection between the two bosses though, one of the things I'm looking forward to with the coming updates is for valheim's lore to be fully fleshed out
I'm not on any English stardew servers so it definitely wasn't me hahaha
At the same time I'm curious about some contradictions in the lore too, such as how female specimens of Drakes are "much larger" compared to their male counterparts, yet we have Fader being a big boy
damn its even the actual model of stardew well like the custom pfp stardew thingy π that was my last big game, didnt get around to finish it tho.
Looks like a reskin of one of the already existing sprites
ye theres like a website to customize ur own stardew character using assets and stuff from there
And the Fader seemed to rule a human kingdom unlike the Moder
That's exactly what I used to make my profile picture, if you want I can send you the link to the website I used.
A cursed human king possibly
I really hope we get more lore pieces after 1.0 is released
Didnt know this, the trinkets are actually visible
They are! But I was very sad when the armor covered them
I noticed this when I was zooming in my character and seeing the bronze pendant
slowly fade
oh I already knew about it wanted to confirm it was from there π it was time to change pfp too
how far are you guys in the game π ?
Which time?
french brain not understand beep boop
Meaning have beaten the game multiple times π
Current run is at swamp but it's a challenge run so it will take a bit longer.
Which character?
I think I got two in early Mistlands, one in BF to fight the Elder (but on pause because my Co-op partner is gone-ish), one early Ashlands and one somewhere between all that.
why are you doing multiple runs at once?
I'll put some hope into it although it's objectively a worse setting for lore development. Valheim isn't exactly a storytelling game off the bat, hence why I'm pretty content with how much effort was put into the lore, plus it's not blasted into your face every other time you interact with something
Different approaches and challenges.
One of the current ones is for a YT series I'm screwing up in (sort of anyway), the other one is on Hard settings with fire hazards on.
The Ashlands one is from before the release of Ashlands, so wanted to try a new one, instead of using a "settled" one and so on.
I guess it's a habbit from my RPG days.
I'm kind of stuck in the mountains right now.
I just left the mountains and went into the plains looking for the Beserker's trophy. Got the Fenring ones earlier and the Beserker just a couple of minutes before I was about to sign off.
It's off to Mistlands again and start looking for the trophies from there.
So far, Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountains and Plains trophies are collected, with the exception of the two Brothers. But those won't be missing for too long either.
oh you got a valheim yt channel? been my goto in bed to watch hardcore or challenge runs.
Still missing our last 2 totems for Yagluth altho we got the location of his stone now right next to one of our portal, just gotta clear some villages.
I've got multiple games up at my channel. Valheim is just one of them.
But it's also one of the two games I'm recording for quit a while now.
Which may be the reason why it barely got any views. 102 episodes and I'm "just" in Mistlands. Took a bit too long building my base, I think. π
subbed to your channel ill watch some of that tonight in bed π
Thanks. I hope you enjoy it.
And if you don't, let me know what bothered you. There's always room for improvement and learning for me.
What happens if I dig under a glowing root in mistlands?
You get a big hole in the soil. And with some luck the "sheltered" status when standing under the root.
also, the noise of digging will attract every hostile in a 50 mile radius, so expect to hear a droning sound like a low flying plane sooner or later
Ehm, I got the *They sought you out" raid.
Isn't that the seeker one?
THINK so
Interesting ......
My plains island base borders the Swamp. Curious how that plays out.
Or not, as the raid is already over
cant wait to be terrified by this noise, my friends warned me of that haha
think ill do a detour to mountains before Yagluth and get back my silver sword, only 160 silver..!
Set the modifiers to maximum if you start mining the silver and you will get it quite fast. Turn them back to normal after it to prevent getting too much of some items and you'll be good.
gonna try and convince my buddy because I do feel bad, was like level 3 thats alot of silver there
Silly question, || but shouldn't cleared out infested mines only have the Jelly being respawning? Not the monsters?
I just got killed by an attack of a 2β tick, a 1β cousin and a seeker in a mine I had cleared out ||
the tentation of mystery to click this box! π but i wont haha
They have ||seekers, seeker soldiers and even ticks respawning alongside the jelly|| π
Its the only dungeon that does that
just realised I could just start a solo game with my character and spawn the sword with the console command right instead of going to farm it or would it fk something with my save/character
I used it for you in particular as it's about a biome you're planning to enter soon.
Does the root continue down under the ground past the dig limit?
That explains. Got killed while I wasn't even 2 steps in. Couldn't dodge roll to deal with one monster, because the one that's looking for something was blocking that action, not using the new weapon class yet as I lack the crafting station, so it was a sort of quick death, considering the one I couldn't dodgeroll from was a 2β
Ooof, that is unlucky indeed
Oh, and of course, no sledge or any similar weapon to use as AoE either.
In short, all the Sadistic Number Generator stuff was being very sadistic.
Frankly speaking, I won't know. I've never dug a hole in the Mistlands.
But considering the copper and silver nodes occasionally do that, it's very likely roots do too.
Not all of them tho, some are ||one time spawns|| and others are ||spawners that respawn some of the mobs every 240 minutes||.
If it helps, the area I entered was under a former Dvergr Tower.
Ah, true, i thought ||the big guys also respawn after the 240 minutes|| π
Some can, if there are many.
Hmm? Its not listed on the wiki then π€
There is a line at the wiki page about that area saying "some enemies will respawn every 4 hours"
Last paragraph, right above the Strategy part.
@nocturne wolf I have time to update the sheet with that split-damage thing we talked about last week, can you send me the details again (directly) please?
Yeah, i am looking at it but also on the pages of individual enemies π 2 of the 3 have listed they respawn after the 4 hours but the ||big boys|| dont
And that math sort of matches as I've spend some time in swamps and plains to look for Wraith, Fenring and Beserker trophies. And that's been more than 4 hours. Closer to 8 I think.
This is taken from world gen website, displaying some random infested mine. It shows some of the enemies twice, which means there are one time spawns and spawners for them.
do old infested mines respawn? Iβve revised a few times and nothing
Only ||few enemies and royal jelly piles ||
Well, it does have one advantage: Since they were able to gang up on my, dropping Oozebombs at the entrance and running out helped. I managed to get the area I had cleared to be cleared again, working my way through the parts I hadn't cleared yet and found a Vegvisir.
ah
Well, lesson learned for me.
Clear them out, then don't come back until I'm able to bubblewrap myself. π
Nope, it won't mess with your character.
And yes, it's an easier solution, less time consuming, but you will miss out on the pickaxe skill.
early game enemies start to become a real nuisance
Not if you decide to play the "How far can I knock back this Greyling"-game.
They're no longer threating compared to before
they just drain your stamina for being a nuisance
and blocking you π
hey everyone
And when you play the baseball comment from Paradise by the Dashboardlight while doing that, it'll be even more fun.
Yeah, I knew they respawned at least seekers and stuff. Its how I keep in stock on the carapace for those arrows. π
Seriously I was trying to keep this one troll alive the one with the log to cut trees for me
looking for people to play with - I have a world and am up to the Inferno Lands - I love building and exploring
but THESE DAMN GREYDRAWFS SHOWING UP AND EATING MY STAMINA π
You can search or post in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 π
How far above BF are you?
oh im late swamp progression
with full iron gear decked out
The main issue is their goddamn pathing haha
just prepping for bonemass
Same with fuling so annoying sometimes
Their AI is a hit and run kinda of AI
Greydwarves are canonically and practically evil and should be exterminated
I think they are scared of fire tho hmmm just annoying when I wanna Woodcut in peace and they keep coming to annoy me
Fulling are very annoying when they're in a group. Especially when you hadn't noticed the 2nd spear Fuling and wondering where all that health loss comes from.....
Dont tell me more...
Killing greydwarves with falling trees is like the ultimate insult, I love it

please oh PLEASE YES
oh and in my case ofc its always a starred fuling I didnt see in the midst of em π
Greydwarves form from the forest and spirit of murderers
Fire hazards on and then hitting the ground in front of them is much more fun.
I always want to yell: "Burn, you baβds" when that happens.
It sure takes a long time to level up the Arbalast on the practice target, but at the same time my hens are generating a LOT of eggs. So win/win, I guess. π
The ultimate revenge is using Draugr fang on a Greydwarf Shaman and seeing it being killed by poison damage......
Heh, fire hazards bring along a lot of fun. I absolutely bloody LOVE raiding dvergr and fuling villages with fire arrows, makes me feel very viking
Oh it does take a while to level up crossbows
I just want to get it into the 20's, like I do with all new weapon types, but it is taking forever. So I am getting a lot of stacks of eggs.
Food should spoil in a couple days
I just keep it in my Valheim refrigerated chests. Keeps it forever.
<--- goes checking his refrigerator
It does. I just had to throw away a few tomatoes. π
I would be losing so much food if it could spoil
Dang my rage bait got expertly deflected
from my knowledge, food preservation back then used barrels yes?
kinda of like inclosing the food
or like a cellar'
Yet, it would also add something to the game.
ASKA has it and it's nice to see that mechanic working.
It keeps a villager busy and the spoiled food is being used as fertilizer for the farm.
But for Valheim it should most likely mean a change of the game's engine. Which might postpone the 1.0 release a lot.
Yeah, they did things like pickling, fermentinng, and used "root cellars". So they had foods through the winters, etc...
Pickling, drying and cellars with pieces of ice if that was nearby.
Also smoking of meats.
Wait why would spoiling food require changing the game engine
Not the engine, just coding.
Ah
I imagine it wouldnβt be that hard actually
So long as their code is modular
Iron sword vs bomeass π€
I think the same thing about making all lands underwater actually be ocean zone, but they haven't done that either.
Wdym?
It would depend at how deep you want to go with that whole path.
If it spoils, does it turn into something else? If so, does that something else being used? If so, for what? And if the "what" is set, what would be the change on that? And so on.
But what I meant was using the way ASKA does it compared to Valheim.
ASKA has active NPC's; which could actually mean a change of the engine.
Maybe engine version, but I am pretty sure Unity can handle doing all of that.
What engine do they use for ASKA?
I swear to god im about to throw hands with these greydwarfs π
Not sure but I think it was unity.
They are like ants pouring out of their mills
Yeah, so they may need to update to an even more recent version of the engine, but the engine can do it.
Im still farming a bit more iron before going for bonemass
A spawner is behind that hill over there...
extra doesnt hurt
Never hurts.
especially the fact 2 of the next biome after mountains requires a ton of iron
plains for armour and some buildings
mistlands is literally majoirty of the weapons
krom check, mistwalker check, arbalest check
I get tons of iron, and copper, in the Mistlands. I just tear down a few bridges. Bars of iron galore! Most copper stays as scraps, though.
Once you get to ashlands copper is just free
just head to your nearest BF and summon thy
Feels that way for sure.
A TROLLRAID AS WE SPEAK

hold on gotta deal with these blue freaks
or actually just let them fight the whole swamp biome
Seeing a 2 star draugr elite two tap a troll is terrifying
Seeing a Troll and an Abomination or Lox fight is a lot more interesting.
Did they remove the ore being able to float and then blow up when you break everything around it
A brawl I would watch til one dies lol
Nope, but copper can be a pain depending on where it is.
Yeah if one piece is still touching ground no pop
At this rate, we may end up having all the omelletes we will need for Ashalnds.
I prefer watching the trollstav summon fight other trolls
It's like watching a fight between an older and younger sibling
A bloody 1β Gjall firebombing my Puff and Caps field!
And some people call Greydwarfs annoying?
I always scout waterside copper, and pull up with the boat and portal mats
That sucks! Then comes the ticks trying to be mini vampires!
Yeah there was a piece that was connected some how like wtf
At least they are easy to agro away from your stuff. But its also why I keep a large inventory for replacements.
Got it though
I had found a dwarf tower and built beside it so they would kinda be a buffer or I could lead things to them to kill
Yeah, Thorin, let us know if starred gjalls drop starred ticks. I don't think they do, but its been over a year since I have even seen one.
Health food feels so useless when your getting 1-2 tapped in very hard combat
Well, I got the bugger (pun intended). Draugr Fang with Needle arrows help a lot. It even led me to one of those stone corpse thingies (still not sure if a pre-mistlands user is around, hence the description), so in a way I got lucky.
unless you are with 260 hp and with flamental armor and lightning weapons + towershield
You mean the skull and ribs? Nice!
Wont help ya in very hard combat either
Enemies hit very hard
They make you feel like a zombie when all you really want is the brains! Soft tissue
define very hard combat? what biome and how many enemies
?
Enemies in general just hitting harder, having more hp, and even potentially one shotting you π
I believe they mean the world modifier π
Except finding that stuff at night with the higher spawns around is not fun. Especially when you can't get that damn dodge rolling working.
In other words, I died. Again.

Atgeirs and Hammers that are normally a joke in normal difficulty are now fair game in very hard combat
And worse, I didn't have my "Oh shit! I gotta run!" portal up yet.
you cant stun lock some enemies now
It's my only gripe with this game: blocking is just too inconveniently done.
Either go into crouch and use space or block and use space isn't always useful when you run around with a darn tick at your back and not having a sledge.
Would be a lot easier if you just had to tap a single key to get it working.
Hm? The block+space is incredibly fast, i dont use anything else to get ticks off of me really π€
Not for a left handed user playing with right handed settings because remapping the keys is even making things more complicated.
I need to press [space] with my pinky finger........
im always so scared they chase me to my portal and break it down as I tp out lol got ptsd of my first swamp biome when we landed and abom broke the ship+portal
Ah, true, not left handed myself so didnt really consider it π€
But remapping shouldnt really cause many problems i think if you just use the same key positions just mirrored.
Time to find a bigger swamp and probably get lost at sea again π«
I would have to use the arrow keys, meaning you will have to reach further up to get the potions going.
I've tried it and found it even more troublesome as using the right handed settings.
I think I'm going to do what the guys from VLDL did.
Not planning to play a stealth archer and ending up as a stealth archer until I'm able to get magic.
Well, i meant remaping the W, A, S and D to P, L, ; and ' (not sure if those last ones are the same on your keyboard, its the two keys left from Enter). That would give you same position for your right hand as i have for left regarding Shift, Ctrl and Space
I'm using QWERTY, so most likely similar to yours.
It might work.
Perhaps I'll have a look at it in the weekend.
I have QWERTZ, but since my language has quite a few of these "ΔΕ―Γ½" kinds of letters they might occupy the key that is something different for most of the world, i did try to use EN keyboard just in case tho so hopefully it will be the ones i said π
Well, for now I'm going to be vewy, vewy caweful when seeing a Gjall or the petrified remains.
And meanwhile thinking back with joy about how easily I was able to dodge roll in Dawn of Defiance and Aska. π
guys, was there a sneaky non-mentioned update to the dead raiser with the call to arms? I feel like what used to be 20% for a ranger is now way higher. between 30-50% no?
I dont believe there was π€ maybe you are just getting really lucky π
possibly am, Im seeing so many more archers recently. I wish It was true tho. I would pref around 50/50 chance
How many playthroughs have you done?
I wonder how long do I have to roam the Plains to find the boss. I already have more than enough black metal and totems but cant find a waypoint. Maybe its just my map which originates form 2021 or 2022 but i find it a bit odd from a game design perspective that finding the boss is by far the hardest part
alright went into singleplayer and spawned myself my silver sword again, nothing ever hapenned, never put it in my Obliterator.
Yeah, I only put the early gear in an obliterator. Even then only after I have moved on from bronze and iron gear. You never know when you might get into an ugly death run situation and need something to run with.
yeah or just because ya know silver damage can always be good, in duo corpse run aint too bad at least always run back naked while he protects me.
Some times, my wife and I die at the same time. Rare, but it does happen. So we like to have old gear on hand.
it is bound to happen soon, surely in the mistland.
Yeah, its usually in the newer biomes when it does happen. Last time it was in the Ashlands. Older gear still works. As an example, my wife usually goes into the Ashlands with the root armor. This time she is wearing the vile set. So old gear is still good even in the hardest biomes.
Last play took me and a friend 3 real days to find, just got lucky on this solo play and found the waypoint after 2 real days
Itβs my #1 complaint for the game
i'm a lefty too! lefty friends! idk if this helps, but for every game i can currently think of i change jump key to left alt (thumb) and run key to R (pinky)
and i use the standard WASD for movement
Someone having WASD keybinds on a DVORAK must be wild π
Nice vldl mentioned
What bench is Ashland armor made? I saw the recipe fly by but cant find it in my benches
Black Forge
Depends on the armor.
Black forge heavy/med, gauldr = light
Yeah, mage armor in Galdr table π
Viking Power Armor when?
On your first playthrough, what is a good measurement for where to build your like base after defeating the elder?
Is quite subjective really, I like to have ocean access for instance, and I love me a swamp treehouse.
Yeah I like the ocean view too
Me and my friend are still in our tiny shack, so we are contemplating whether we should pack and mvoe or just build a new house right here
Nearby a swamp is always great, better if there is some black forest nearby or you build in it for copper and tin too, can also be in the actual meadows etc, ocean accessis for views but also for boat access very important unless you love the cart a lot.
If I'm playing a fast game I will live in a tiny abandoned restored shack for the first 2 biomes, and then build the treehouse as soon as I get 2 of the new swamp metal items, sometimes can do before Elder even if you're an experienced player. If I play slow I sometimes build a new house each biome I reach, but thats also too much building for a new player on their first playthough and I wouldn't recommend it for that.
meadows is the spawn biome right?
yeah
the biome most popular generally for a big base is the 5th one
I would not recommend a new player to build there after killing the Elder though haha
Yeah well my friend is new, and I did a short run a year ago, but I know that the buidling was fun but also quite a pain in the ass sometimes
For a trio the best is someone who likes to build farm cook, someone wholikes exploring and someone who likes to grind haha
hahaha fair enough
With my friend we just set out on journeys to getter and like basically gather materials simultaneously when we need it
sounds great
@shy marlin swamp time. Finished getting my armor and bronze spear to rank 3 π
Yeah its much more fun to take a boar on with a mate hahaha
you doing vegetarian hard yeah?
Very Hard.
ah yeah what i meant
I don't get any new food until Mountain and even then it is just onion soup π
I kinda find that a bit too challenging haha, Hard is okay, Very Hard is a scale issue for me...
So I'll be entering Plains with Onion Soup, Carrot Soup, Queen's Jam.
just find a mistless mistland and yeet some shrooms and plant them there.. or also doing no portal and all that other punishing stuff and biomes in order?
I always do the biomes in order.
no clouds then either, surely a big challenge
boring π
Over 200 eggs now and finally hit 20 in my crossbow skill. Its appears to have cut a full second on loading time. If skill cuts that down to 1 to 2 seconds as you approach 100 in your skill, that can get interesting.
yeah, it's pretty fun to have a high crossbow skill. fast enough that you can almost stunlock most enemies just with the bolts.
i died while on the ashlands and when i got to where i died to claim my items all i saw were a couple of charcoals on the ground, does your items get burnt or something? i cant find my gravestone
it's not destroyed. might not be where you expect.
make sure you're at the right marker on your map.\
yeah you're right i've just found it, thanks
how funny would be not, if Thor turned tombstones into one coal lump, and puffs away as you approach with an evil laugh
i would quit the game on the spot to be honest haha
but lets you use his chariot for 30min :p
Eyescream
Contains glands.
It does doesnβt it
Indeed.
ashlands is so unforgiving bro its so hard
everywhere i go i just get instantly swarmed with enemies and die
Remember to have fire protection at all times
i do π
mage or melee
I mean as soon as I got my flametal armor and improved my parrying I found the difficulty acceptable
War? In the war biome? Nooooo....
god forbid a man to talk about his difficulties i guess
Are you mage or melee?
i am melee
You wearin the root harnesk?
no fully upgraded carapace set
Try on the root harnesk, tons of enemies in the ashlands do pierce, it'll increase your survivability a lot
i died a ton my first time in ashlands, it gets better the more you learn the enemies and get some ashlands gear.
which melee weapon are you using?
ahhhh, i guess exploremap cant be reverted lmao
kinda can
ive spent hours sailing uncovering areas, guess ill be doing that again
if you have it saved on a cartography table b4 you explored map, you can resetmap then go to cartography table and get your old exploration view
Oh, this all belongs in #mods-discussion
doesn't really matter tbh
It does though π
oh no the integrity of the discord is upset because of a small qol mod
ah yeah i had atgier my first ashlands, it was so rough cuz the enemy stagger is so short. but mistwalker is a great choice
My wife found this burial chamber in the meadows, above ground. It had multiple skeletons defending it, and did include a loot room with four surtling cores (collected before I could document with photos). Anyone ever seen this before? IS it intended?
Imagine seeing things in degrees of severity π
what's your problem? why are you acting like you're above everyone else whenever you say something?
Well that's just false...
You've said we're not related when i just simply called you "bro" a few days before, you don't need to act like this im just here to chat
If you don't like talking with other people then just don't that's what im trying to say
Well, we aren't related. That's just factually true.
Hahahah
yeah I'll get used to it eventually i guess
we have this conversation daily at this point
just in time for the drama. FIGHT HARDER.
just continue what you are talking about
nah man. im just here to escape from my daily problems don't want other people to be mean to me that's all π
Daily? It's been almost a week π
atgier still good for asksvins, but mistwalker for everything else, you can just walk circles around morgens when they're slowed. dont give up you'll think it's a fun biome soon enough XD
alright man thanks :D
Im not a MAN that's factually INACCURATE
Moder is dead once again and I'm sitting in my long house drinking tasty mead and enjoying some well deserved comforts. Man this game, the friends that I have met....and lost..... There is nothing like Valheim.. Till Valhalla
no im a man.
anyone can be a bro or dude, that's what my mother taught me. And she's always right.
What a strange thing to say.
it's more like in ratatuoille
sitting here wondering why a boar is in the swamp, theres a tiny dot of meadows
ok now im gettin mad i just came back from a run thru the plains to get to next swamp for more iron put 140 BM ore in my storage box and teled back to swamp to replace my iron that kept disapearing last night , go to put the iron in the box and ALL the metal i had is gone
still running mods?
150 BM ore 215 copper 173 tin and 83 silver all gone
also just lookin at screenshot from last nite 50 honey gone too
it was all there 10 mins ago
To many mods and man I run the game without mods because of that very reason... To many bugs, especially when official work comes out and they update the game.
the mods are old and the new content don't jive.... thats to be expected
almost all the mods im running are updated to new content as of 25th and the only mods that do anything with inventory ive never had an issue last 3 plays
i see azumatt mods, which are currently updated and about as gold standard as you get
yaa i running mostly azu's mods
but stuff only disapearing from 1 box and i changed it from 10 slot to iron chest last night but in same spot
FINALLY! I got the Vile trophy, so my wife can now make her head piece. π
Only took 40 something of them for RNG to finally give me one.
I have to say, they did a good job of making it look ugly and undead.
Now I want another to keep on my walls with all the other trophies. π π
ok changed sum settings in V+ to not auto store the honey that was going to same chest as metal see if that works
whys the ashlands so laggy?
Because there is a lot of instances the game is trying to track at the same time.
its been out for a year and its still laggy?
Other priorities.
like what?
Finishing the game?
Getting the whole thing done then going back over for optimization pass?
small dev team, cant fix things overnight while also trying to make an entire new biome
its the ashlands and 1 year is overnight?
that 1 year has been spent on combat fine tuning and deep north
the ashlands is in a playable state, the lag is not gamebreaking
just minor inconvinence
There is lag in the Ashlands?
Hadn't noticed. Must have hid behind all the ugliness.
Probably help if they cut down on, or got rid of, all the gaseous atmosphere effects.
True
What the hell do they feed the fluffy cows, they do so much damage
I reckon a lox could solo the elder
cloud berries mostly
anyone know of a mod that increases range of taming % visibility?
im taming a grizzly bear cuz i wanna ride it π
that n a skelly killed my 1 star wolf i just got into the pit as i went to find another wolfie
Fluffy cows π€£π€£π€£
They are technically chonky fluffy lizards, but that works too
i literally dont have the heart to slaughter my farm Loxes
they're so fluffy and cute
even tho i needed another batch of Lox Pies
I usually just hunt for Lox if I ever need them
I forgot how necessary shields are in this game
Feels nice not instantaneously exploding when attacked
Except for that 2-star fuling who demolished me
Atgeir secondary can replace the need for shield.
Why react and parry when you can just be proactive and stagger

woot got me a 2nd grizzly 2 reg wolves and a 2star all in same pit taming now π
was a bit risky "sparta" ing the 2 star into the pit
he woulda 1shot me if i missed
just learned grizzly and wolves are fine together until tamed had to kill the grizz to save the 2 star wolf
petition to add green ogres to the swamp
Bears are untamable? Aww
modded bear from Monstrum mod
they are tameable but will fight the wild wolves after tamed
#screenshots message made the saddle

Not surprised, but given I have yet to fight Moder
Dodging has worked and still works well against bosses.
Since latest update, perfect dodges return some stamina and also perfect blocks aka parries cost stamina no more, so parrying bosses has become viable option for stamina management.
I meant more in general, like trying to fight anything in the plains without a shield has proved suicidal so far, bar deathsquitos and even then
Surely shield is much safer option, but the game is doable even without one.
During one of my perma challenge runs I only used 2h weapons (atgeir, battleaxe, sledge, 2h sword) and no shield.
Oh I am going to lose it, I died on a different island and forgot to put a bed down, just spent 20 minutes sailing to my death point only for a lox to fall out of the air and swim into the ocean and almost destroy the boat
I knew they were part lizard, I didn't realise that lizard was a salamander
Ouch. But you can do it!
0/10 do not recommend getting attacked by aquatic lizard cows
Is it a common opinion in this game's fanbase like it is between me and my friend, that this game has some of the worst enemy AI ever seen?
I would not say worst, but it is not great.
The grey dwarf and fuling AI definitely leaves something to be desired
there is a lot of games who do or did this much worse
Literally every enemy type has the most bare bones basic attack -> relocate -> attack cycle
And it sucks when I'm just trying to fight something and I'm literally chasing after it or hugging it while it refuses to interact
Oh no, not every enemy but the ones who do make sense for the most part. It can be annoying to chase a fuling down on occasion, but if some mobs in groups would focus you without their "flanking" manoeuvre, they could easily become too overwhelming.
The most jarring AI "feature" I have seen is the suicidal dvergr in Ashlands. They die in lava, but they don't realise they need to avoid it..
Surtlings do that in water, which is a problem given they live in a swamp
Well a problem for them, free coal for me
Yeah, but that makes a bit more sense since they are essentially elementals and spawn accidentally due to the geyser spitting them out. That the geyser is situated in a swamp is just bad luck...
Aight fellas, I got a question for ya. Is there a way to fully duplicate your worlds? Like just copy paste my forever world with all the stuff carried over, so I can mod one and keep the other. And can you do the same with characters?
#mods-discussion is probably the best bet for that
Welp
Copying the wold - or making a backup copy e.g. - is pretty straightforward, just copy the world files to a new folder.
Probably they don't actively avoid the lava since it's part of the terrain, not its own entity.
So go browse the game files?
Yeah, I think Smiffe said something like that, with their current config there is no way to tell them lava is bad.
One for example is the stone golem for me
It will walk about and move away from you while trying to fight it the entire time
That is to give the average player a chance to regenerate some stamina I think
Like me and my friend will just hug it and wait
When just into the mtns I am pretty grateful they do the odd little walkaround so I can recover after a bad parry attempt..
It's ok that they can circle the player but they should stop if the player remains close to them
Yeah, if you follow them after they turn away, they should just turn back and re-engage.
The world files are located in the Appdata folder, exact path depends on your installation, but usually something like C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local
Combat is also extremely different solo vs multi on account of you having different gear, skills, health, stamina, etc.
Oh yeah I forgot to say, before you make your copy you need to shift your save from cloud storage to local, to copy the files (world name .db and .fwl). Then you can shift them back to cloud if you want.
Ah
I'm not sure if I've gotten exceptionally unlucky before or exceptionally luck now, because I've just doubled the amount of silver nodes I've discovered looking for Moder's vegvesir
By "new folder" do you mean make a new one in the Valheim folder?
Make that quadrupled
hooked serpent to small swamp island and got swarmed by million enemies myself, this was a mistake π
Frostner go brrrrr
goooood mornin', doing Yagluth for real now tonight, we got our last 2 totems last night and another trip of black metal. Made 6 fire res, 3 each should be enough for the fight.
Best of luck man, I went in blind and didn't know he dealt fire damage.
Hopefully no deaths will happen and then big adventure to find mistlands π
When half your - structurally sound - building spontaneously falls apart when you're away, that is due to load lag, right? Seems one of the core supporting walls in my build loaded last, and it had some unsavoury consequences. Is this a thing that can be avoided somehow?
(Was not a mob that did it btw, was inside the building)
same, haha. i quickly found out tho and ran away as i was burning π
back to base brew some barley wine!
Yup, I thought it was useless. Shoulda known better lol
I never even realised I had unlocked a fire resistance mead π hopefully hes gonna be a bit harder than Moder which was pretty boring/easy
That's correct.
And he is harder than Moder.
He usually gives new players a bit of trouble π i think you will be happy
Good! I need some challenge, like I died 1 or 2 times on elder x)
also didnt repair my bow going into the fight lol so it broke 30sec in
Melee Is usually faster anyway xD
in my first playthrough i killed eikthyr, elder and moder on 1st try, bonemass on 2nd try and i think i died total 3 times to yagluth
I didnt like his moves to go in melee ngl
but now im more used to go in melee and block/parry/dodge
almost broke my mace to moder, took million hits but got it done
idk what weapon would be good against it
Frostner?
no, i think it was iron mace
i knew not to use frost arrows or frostner
also moder kills my FPS especially if there are drakes too, that was annoying
Moder was really underwhelming and kinda buggy too lol hed try to hit me in melee and would miss and then be bugged in place letting us both get free hits
Yeah her AI has struggled long time.
i saw a youtube short where someone built a bonfire or something, and went under that lol
and moder died to fire by itself
I wanna see a campfire only elder kill xd
plenty of those on youtube
Slayed Moder yesterday at Night and it got a little crazy with all the additional monsters haha
The Altar was encased in rock too... so that was a first
sounds spicy at night ngl π cant imagine if you get hunted by pack of wolves or something π
Well there was 4 golems ... wolves, drakes, and even a Ulv joined in
Wolves aren't scary, but 4 golems is horrifying
Not ulv, fenring right? π
I think it's spelled Ulv
I hate dealing with multiple wolves but yeah golems is even worse for sure
Ulvs and Fenrings are cave only π
huh
fenrings are not cave only heh
I fought fenrings outside at night, you mean cultist/ulv
Ulvs are caves only π fenrings spawn at night outside
maybe it was a fenring
you mean cultists?
Oh sorry cultists
I have it on video
Forgot that variant π
Not to worry I was mistaken, it's likely a Fenring
probably
That feeling when you have built something near spawn, and then... 5 min later it comes a troll raid with 2 1 star trolls and smacks half of it down... π And as if it was not enough, they got stuck near my death marker, and smacked me down 3 times when I tried leaping it to get my gear and fight them... uuuurgh!
well whatever the bipedal wolves that spawn at night on the mountain are called
they joined in too lol
Yep, Fenrings π
Man o man it was intense
always forget after raids theres a couple of mobs wandering around
got clapped by a berserker that did a rampage on my farm smh(didnt have food buff up)
Can be if something keeps them agrroed π
all the greydwarves near our base π
Taht would do it xD
meadows base is chill but damn greydwarves be so annoying
Hah! I was playing with a friend, he got knocked down by a greydwarf throwing a stone, while I killed a bear, and then the troll comes and knocks us straight to Valhalla xD
I need to get better at thinking about getting food in base x)
died twice to jumping down 1 floor in my base xd
Quite classic way to go.

Hello vikings.
Is there a way to stop new recepies to apear on screen when you pick up an item.
I mean. I launch about 3/4 games a week as i do speedrun and everytime the are some recepies poping up specually when you unlock iron.
With 6k hours on the game this feature is not necessary. And a way to unable that would be very welcome.
So if someone can tell me how to do it i would apreciate a lot βΊοΈ
You can unlock all pieces and recipes using commands, tho that might give you a very long series of those pop ups, and if you are using fresh characters for speedruns you would have to do it for each and every one of them.
Sounds like a classic case of feather cape withdrawal
Or "not yet Feather cape" state.
exactly what I was about to say, but I know about it tho.
still using that starter cape fully upgraded for that HUGE armor haha
Yeah that too.
I was quite lucky when i made my ashen cape and found out that jumping down from my balcony to the courtyard deals 24 fall damage.
In speedrun you are not allowed to use any mods or commands
A feature un the settings would be nice.
Best way to post it as a suggestion in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202312684364910612.
Just don't forget to add the π‘ before doing the final hit at [enter].
Iron Sword level 4 guys, do or don't? π silver sword seens too expensive and bronze sword too weak... but 80 iron... do you consider it a good weapon?
Btw i love swords π
no
Silver sword all the way.
Silver for monsters
Do as you want, there is no right or wrong answers. π
Silver is a bit easier to get than iron imo
And has less use in the game overall
you don't really need iron neither besides building
That still counts
silver way easier to get is the mega bonus
and surprise stuff like ovens and spinners, and krom if you want it
And there are mistlands weapons that cost a non-negligible amount of iron
def you Want Krom
oh and skull splitter. huh yeah lots of iron based mist weaponryβ¦
it is nice of the game to have iron scrap laying around in mists
Even already smelted ingots if you know where to look π
you have to ask nicely for them i think right? π‘οΈ
Yup.
Just yell: "Your Iron or your life!"
Seems to work.
You can even go 'dramatic' and add:
"This is a stick-up! Put your hands in the air and give me all your iron. Or pay for it with your life."
Making bronze seems to slow me a bit as I run coastline in search of tiny tin and my brain keeps going ( squirrel ) πΏοΈ and I loose track of what I was doing.
And Skull Splittur.
that sounds dope
couldnt resist the temptation anymore and look at soooome gameplay from mistland...
Damn, running through Ashlands feels like playing Diablo
Ah missed this one.
Dont forget padded armor also costs quite a bit of iron
Will Valheim be on sale
iron arrows
hello. Is this game playable in offline mode? if yes, is it recommended?
Yes and Yes
does it have good combat?
It sure does
You have to get used to it first but it's still a good system
ty
with mods you can sink 1000s of hours into this game easily
Without mods you can sink 1000s of hours into this game easily.
With both you can sink 6.023*10^23 hrs into this game easily
If you play like Scales you can sink 1000s of hours into this game difficult-ly.
With immortality you can sink infinite hours into this game easily.
you already can without them
without hours you can't sink into this game
Let that sink in.
This is deep.
deep as sinkhole
Maximum sinkhole depth is 8m though π
We are rolling in the deep.
without sinks you can spend hours washing dishes
you get a hungry pet wolf, he will clean lick them up real good
Interesting conversation, LOL
Now, I know load lag can occasionally make large buildings load parts of the construction in the wrong order, making some pieces collapse. This happened to me today and re-constructing one wing of my keep was decidedly un-fun. So... is there any way to avoid this happening? Besides not building big...?
Oh wow, I have never had this problem before and I've done some good size builds. I do know that each piece renders in separately, regardless of size, so use larger pieces rather than smaller pieces and clear clutter (trees, bushes, rocks, drops, too many tames). Are you altering the structural integrity of pieces or modding, or is it plain vanilla? There may be channels better able to help if you aren't playing vanilla
@heady parcel
Always plain vanilla. I think one of the core walls in my kitchen wing loaded later than the above floors. Had an hour's worth of rebuilding to do of internal walls, floors and decorations. Outer shell and roof was intact, thank Odin
Guys should I upgrade my copper sword to level 4 π€
How do you check instances btw? I don't think I have absurdly many, the house isn't that big, just high, and I've cleared a lot of forest around it
Copper? Assuming you mean bronze I think it would be more cost- and time-effective to start on iron weaponry, but if you need to prioritise other things with your iron - the bronze sword lvl 4 will carry you through the swamp. Or the mace. Particularly the mace...
Yes it is always recommended to max out all your bronze gear before moving on.
Level 4 upgrades are very expensive, level 3 is good enough
I don't remember with the forge, don't you need iron to upgrade it so you can upgrade bronze weapons to 4, or does that pattern only come after that?
This games so confusing π
You can't get a level 4 forge before swamps
It can be - but if the mobs die when you smack them you're doing something right, and a lvl 4 sword will make them die faster.
Hit F2 in game and it'll tell you in the window that appears
The other thing I can think of is structural integrity. How much of your build is red. It won't take much to cause a collapse if there is a lot of red pieces when hovering over with the hammer equipped. I recall friends mentioning having issues with things breaking when loading if they don't make sure their builds are well supported. Try adding in some iron beams for additional support
That being said, it's not something I've ever had problems with, and I build a lot. So I'm just trying to think of things that may help. Someone else may be of more use than I am
Most of it is actually green, the core walls all have iron supports in them that go all the way to the top to carry the pointy christmas-tree roof. And it was the first and second floors that collapsed, so I'm a bit confused.
Yeah, that's really odd. Is it on a server or is it a solo game?
Solo world
Maybe I just need to stop running all the time, give it more time to load. #RatatoskJunkie
π
hye im kinda new and im only in the iron age and im looking for other people to play with is there any popular servers that anyone recomends , or people that might be interested in playing?
#1024264966712340510 is the place to look
sorry didnt know about that
No worries, it's all good. Good luck finding players to share the game with π
ya i missed it all, your all nutty like PB
ayo what do love potions do? I dont know what to use them for
i would argue its hard to sink 1000h+ into valheim without mods
show me a gamer with 1000h+ who never used mods
All mead effects are described on the food sheet pinned in this channel.
Hi.
See that's where we differ and why it isn't difficult for me. π
And I would argue the world would be a better place if they didn't exist at all.
The beauty of opinion. π€·ββοΈ
Iβve played with mods in the past a bit but I tend not to as of late
its still a great game without for sure
I played 3500 hours before I tried mods
And I mostly played with QOL mods like that one that lets you teleport with a cart, so nice
π€
I'll play with or without. I'm good either way
some of them are game changers, but i get why some perfer to play the game as the devs intended
If I wore hats I would take mine off to you good sir.
A balanced opinion acknowledging both sides have merit instead of raging that yours is the only correct opinion. π
If you donβt play with mods youβre playing the game wrong and you might as well uninstall you loser
Now that is a Discord reply π
I play with mods just for kicks, and for QoL stuff like build camera and death pin remover, but I love the game no matter how I play it. And I don't judge others for how they wish to play.
If you play WITH mods you are not really playing Valheim because you are not playing the game the devs intended π€£
ya'll suck, i am king of the vikings
Couldn't resist, LOL
Currently there are only 2 mods I would even consider.
- Remove the Olympic punt strength on Frostner so I can actually use it as a weapon.
- Tameable Necks. (But only if they don't make them tameable in 1.0)
Personally Iβm a big fan of the mod that lets you go through a portal with a cart
Such a small change, but so nice
my favourite is easily the "flying" building mod
You mean devcommands, debugmode, press Z?
As someone who believes Stone Portal should never have been added to the game... π
i use the mod, but it just lets you fly when you use your hammer to build roofs/windows ect
Stone portal is different than bringing carts with you
It just makes it faster to do something you can already do by breaking the cart and going back and forth until you moved everything
Can't post a screenshot, but I am currently at 2,616.6 hours and never used a single mod whatsoever. My firm opinion is that Valheim simply doesn't need any. Others disagree - and that's fine, we do what we do, and I enjoy the heck out of the game as it is. Once it goes 1.0 and (maybe?) gets official mod support, I might look into some things like render distance etc, but for the most part Valheims is a delightfully complete game in its vanilla state.
100% but for me theres just too many great ones to not use them
even vanilla its an amazing game
Lies. There is no such thing as a "great" mod.
some feel like they should already be in the game but thats just my opinion
all the community mods show how much we all love this game lol
I must admit, I also love the build camera mod. I love building and it takes the pain out of it
but the great thing about mods is you dont have to use them, all optional
I will agree to disagree on this point π
ahh ya thats the one, i wont play valheim without it anymore
takes the headache out of building
honestly thats the only for me thats a must have
the rest are just sprinkles on top
I run a server for another game and used to have like 50-70 mods on it, tends to pile up once you start on it, but recently reverted to pure vanilla on that too - out of sheer lazyness, since these days I play Valheim most of the time and only run the other server for the guys who play on it. Thing is, for a server admin mods is a mixed blessing, you do get the chance to add cool shit you think the game lacks, or somebody on the internet told you should be in the game - but the other side of the coin is constant issues with mods breaking with updates or mods in conflict with each other, or having unintended side effects (surely mods cannot be bugged, gasp!) causing all kinds of weird issues. This all makes running a modded server a daily struggle. In the end I just grew tired of it all and thought fuck it, vanilla is THE WAY. And since I thoroughly enjoy Valheim out of the box, I see no reason to open that particular Pandora's box.
And the whole above paragraph belongs in another channel, but whatever..
Me, comparing Ballsm to my average experience with modders...
-# Activate Joker Voice
Don't talk like one of them you're not! Even if you'd like to be.
me a moder? i have two needy kids and wife who loves to shop. no time for that lol
i'd love to learn though
Poor Brenna, I was a bit too far progressed this time, a fricking two-star torch fuling is more dangerous than her...
ummm, a question to Iron Gate - have you guys actually coded in rogue waves to the ocean wave system in storms?!? I just encountered a wave three times as high as the others before and after, nearly toppled my longsip upside down...
I asked this last night, but I didnβt get an answer unfortunately. Is it common to find skeleton bones in the mountains? Iβm having really bad luck I think
I donβt remember ever finding skeleton bones in the mountains. We always found silver right away
After you have killed Bonemass, skeletons will spawn at night in any biome (at least up to Plains) and roam around there to get killed by the locals. If you find bones lying around, that's why.
Aah, yeah buried treasures is a thing. Usually a necklace or something along with the bones
Just bad just luck I guess. I read it could be a bug
Now, I don't need chitin so it is not an issue for me - but are Leviathans really supposed to always start their sinking process after your first hit with a pickaxe?
I just sink them to reduce the shipping hazard, bur for anyone actually wanting the chitin I can imagine it being frustrating...
Argh sinking not thinking
I've had some that don't start sinking right away
Yeah, there are buried remains in the mountains, and sometimes treasure. But there is also silver. How high is your mountain? Is there drakes, golems and obsidian on it? If not, then it might be too low to spawn silver
The wishbone isn't picky. It will ping for any buried "treasure", from the chests buried in the "shipwrecks" in the meadows, to muddy scrap piles in the swamps, to silver in the mountains
In short, it's like a typical metal detector. It will beep, but you don't know if it's a lost viking hoard or a bottle cap...
Sinks? I know Valheim is a huge time sink, LOL
As for the Lev's, they will start sinking, period. Its just not for sure on the first hit. It will be for sure by the 5th hit. So unless you limit yourself to one or two hits, it might not sink. But why limit it? There are plenty of Levs to find.
Yeah, I just hop on them to sink them, to get them out of my way when sailing between islands...
my sink smells like feet when i pour boiling water down the drain
what gives?
There's some funky chemical stuff you can pour down the sink to deal with that π
thank you ill give it a go
we'll keep looking the gods have not been kind to us so far
Me, I've barely ever had to use the wishbone, whenever I go up a tall enough mountain I tend to fins silver veins poking out of the ground
Wiki says it is rare, so I must be blessed because it is more common than not for me
(Which, in real numbers, means that in 5-6 worlds I have found a two-figures number of silver veins by sheer visual identification. I did the ME SMASH thing with stagbreaker once, but I felt so foolish walking around a mountain smashing the ground that I have never done it since...)
ok last playthroughs we've never had a problem
maybe it has to do difficulty settings, we're on highest difficulty this run
Yeah that's rng for ya, sometimes the stars align against you
Difficulty doesn't affect material spawns.
i didnt think so
just bad rng
π
ya that can be rough
RNG can be a <bleep>. In my no-portals world I am struggling to find certain trophies. Some feel like a 1/1 drop rate, while I have killed like 30 bears by now and got ONE trophy...
we found a stone hidden away between two rocks in the mountains last night, they could be anywhere
I nead a heap more for the rugs I have planned haha
no-portals....i cant convince my wife. i'd love to try it
we're highest diff atm, but no portals she wont go for lol
I thought it would be too extreme, but man I love how it slows down progress in a natural way. There's just no way to speedrun, you have to be methodical and plan journeys
ya thats why i want to try it
But man, once I get to Ashlands I will activate portals and pretend stone portals are the only ones that exist
every base has a "real" meaning
No way I'll take on Ashlands without
rather then one "main" base
Indeed
i'll convince her at some point
honestly i dont like the portals, but its a rough game without them
It really is fun. Makes you sail a lot more too, so for the first time ever I have Moder's power picked
have you tried valheimraft? it would go really well with that
live off your boat basically
What's that, a mod?
buidable boats
Ah well, maybe some day π
and yes its exactly as it sounds
you build them from scratch
that mod + no portals...eventually lol
for now we're hurtin with max diff, its rough
Well, world modifiers are essentially vanilla mods π
nice, thats what makes valheim so great. tweak it how you want
Yeah the way difficulty settings work in Valheim make them a no-no for me. Give me more mobs and higher chances for starred ones, not your average greyling suddenly being dangerous.
No. What makes it so great is that it does not need to be tweaked.
WE MUST FIGHT.

Rhaaargh!
That's why they added world sliders.
Because it should never be tweaked.

i find that i sail enough with no portal to run into enough serpents to eat through scary bits of mountain and plains, so itβs like iβm not forced to waste time on a boat iβm just multi tasking
Indeed - I never actively hunt serpents but man I have enough serpent meat to last me a LONG time!
no portal also synergizes with no map because while you sail around you swing by other coastlines and try to spot merchants
No-map is a bit too masochistic for me as is, but I would love a setting where building the cartography table would let you view the full map at the table.
Nothing synergize with no map. Because no map is evil π
id love to try no map
I've done no portal.
I will never do no map. π
just because i like to feel the hurt
that would be cool, you could look and go βoh, that island isnβt enormous i just went around it 3 timesβ
this is the setting id like to do but my wife has made me compromise
plus we dont play enough
my wife would get lost IMMEDIATELY
like shed get lost on the way to the eikthyr marker
i feel like no map you would have to play alot to keep the world fresh in your mind
yeah kind of. i make doodles sometimes of what i think the world looks like
haha ya, my wife dont know north from south lol
If they added a compass I could possibly do no map.
or sometimes i do signs too, and i have codes for different symbols i make on coastlines, like a big post with an X or a T
whole nother game i bet
Yggdrasil tree is the compass. π
Yeah, like when I played Eye of the Beholder or Dungeon Master back in the 90:s. Doing maps on grid paper, heaps of notes, then you made it to the final boss and had more papers than for any school work you should have been doing at that time
it really is a different game, everyone should try once
ya i agree
No π
tree is bae once you learn her
one of the first things i do in any game is turn off way points i hate them
i can tell not only where but how far with her
do you also use no portals?
no map no portals yeah, i use minimal portals when i hit ashlands because nobody needs that
ya thats rough, must be fun though. are you modded?
no mods
a buddy of mine will only play one life or we wont touch the game anymore lol
its not bad really, no map and no portal really go well together. It just lends itself to a more immersive and chill experience.
he has thounsands of hours though cant blame him
yeah, I like hardcore death if Iβm playing on normal difficulty just so itβs exciting
one life i'll never do, my time is too precious
I just started another on hard with normal death because I got bored of mistlands and needed a break
I only get about an hour or two of play a day tops, my time is also precious. Itβs more like needing to feel alive lol. I do hard-core for anything that has it, Minecraft, project zone Boyd, things that get the heart pumping.
βzone Boydβ?? lol phone wtf, zomboid.
I guess itβs fair if my phone doesnβt know the word zomboid
Oh, the relaxing ambience of deathsquitos exterminating the local boars
what does that mean Insta kill just fight them as soon as you can?
my wife hates the bosses, so that was our trade-off
spawn them and pop them like a zit
with devcommands
ooohhhhh ok.
but the mobs are hard as nails
and we need to be able to spawn the boss and get all trophies in the zone
yeah, I mean most bosses are pretty dumb. The queen and Fader are fun, maybe Yagluth, but otherwise theyβre just parry auto auto auto parry auto auto auto zzzzz
my wife hates the bosses, and if im honest its the waekest part of the game for me
ya i love the game but the bosses imo are junk
basically just glitch them to win
bosses are weaker than 2 star mobs of their biome, i dont get it
i also dont like that they spawn in the "real world"
Only boss that ever gave me trouble was Yaggy, but I haven't gotten to Fader yet. Queen I beat by profuse use of fire bombs
your running around trying to avoid mobs and fight the boss, its just bad design imo
Nah, it's easy enough to avoid having company from other mobs during the fight, it is part of preparing for it imo
i beat Fader first try without spoilers, heβs just very telegraphed dont stand in the fire and otherwise just block and auto
You make a sweep and kill anything near, you don't start the fight just before night falls - little to no interference
its just my opinion, the bosses just dont do it for me
thats just an opportunity for excitement! One time I fought Moder while a golem spawned somehow twice in the same spot during the fight. They really gotta turn down those responses of golems.
we always just find some way to glitch them, so we dont fight them anymore. Just max out the other mobs difficulty
but we've beat them of course, just cant be bothered anymore
well Moder glitches herself, now that we can attack up, more often than not she pins me against a small rock and canβt hit me while I just hit her
ya thats what i mean, bosses should be in a separte zone to avoid glitches
A few of them I like - Elder, Moder and Yaggy are proper boss fights. Bonemass is a wee bit to simplistic and just a boring green blob, while queen spits out enough adds to make her seem more a WoW raid boss than something that has to do with Valheim. On the other hand, her being the QUEEN of the seekers makes that bit kinda fitting, I just don't like the kinda boss fight where I spend 90% of my time avoiding the boss and hitting her minions.
designed better, its just my opinion
Iβm really hoping final boss is player sized and has some new tricks
we fought the drake once on a cliff and dropped to our death off the other side, never went back to that world
lol
the bosses are very rng in their locations
haha - that's called situational awareness. If you know there's a steep fricking dropoff on one side - don't let her push you there. Besides, Moder is best dealt with by shooting lots of arrows at her until she lands and then smacking the bejeesus out of her...
I like the Moder fight - the times she doesn't get stuck in trees or something
When she can move around like she's supposed to, she is an interesting and not trivial fight
sheβs OK now that we have better hit boxes, but her hit box needs to be given the same improvement
before I would spend most of the fight, just trying to stand on the right rock so I could get a swing on her level
Yeh if she lands on a rock you won't get to smack her, better have a good stock of arrows
I donβt, I just throw spears at drakes, the bow stays in the boat
How long on average does it take to get to plains , like progressing in plains
idk if thereβs an βaverageβ anyone can say itβs all subjective to how people play
Gods, it all depends so much on the world it is impossible to say
Also on how much you build/upgrade per tier.
Like... if you make one of every bronze weapon and fully upgrade them -- your time will be vastly different than someone who just made Buckler + Troll Armor and moved on π
10-30 hrs
I hope I didnβt come across as a troll. I love the game to death. What makes it so great is you can modify it however, you want.
Endless replayability
NO. π
The fact it can be tweaked so much is why itβs been alive for so long
Itβs why people come back from multiple runs
that and random map generation
I SEE THROUGH THE LIES OF THE MODDERS
I DO NOT FEAR VANILLA AS YOU DO
A healthy mod community keeps s game alive for years after release
Yeah, you have the basic rules but the way a world generates makes a hell of a difference
A good game keeps a game alive for years after release π€·ββοΈ
personally i like vanilla of anything best. but. im glad people can mod and have fun if they want
No, I think you have the wrong mindset
Imagine having fun wrong.

I played this game vanilla play through multiple times through all the bosses
Has nothing to do with fear
I was quoting Star Wars π
Ha ha, I know π
there are certain mods, I would absolutely install. Like if there was one that added longship variations with slightly different mats that had slightly tweaked specialties.
I know thereβs a giant ships one, but they seem mostly visual or really weird
Like I just want a long ship with a slightly different fig head and it has five more storage slots, and another one with a different fake head and it goes 10% faster, that sort of thing
Someone is going to add the wooden Leondardo Da Vinci flying machine I just know it...
Well, if they do, you just donβt use it as simple as that
What I want is for the Karve to be faster. Because then I get this automatically.
Karve is very fast, but limited storage.
Longship hits the middle.
Drakkar is slow, but with maximum storage.
It's so simple and it's right there in vanilla if they change 1 thing π
So where the debate gets "fun" is that mods are optional.
And modded stuff is optional.
But then people start declaring modded stuff should be forced into the base game with the argument "just don't use it"
Like... it being a mod already satisfies the "just don't use it" so why should said thing be forced into the base game?
Yeah, I agree. Some mods are crazy.. personally I just use them to increase the difficulty
Karve is fast already, and VERY agile compared to the others. Which is why I use it always when exploring.
Last I checked the Longship is still the ship with the best top speed. Karve is just the best turning radius.
Longship is perfect, I just want to be able to decorate it with shields, sail patterns etc. Gief!
Drakkar is beyond stupid. Sure, it is big and built using some kinda carapace/marble mashup - but even the bloody freighters made of CONCRETE a few decades back were more manouverable than the Drakkar. Make the drakkar just slightly slower to turn than the longship and it would be okay. It is already too big and unwieldy to use in most areas close to the coast, making it that slow to turn only makes it the worst boat in the game, I'd rather use the raft tbh.
oh Sev i just remembered, I wanted to ask you because youβre the βblock guyβ, iβve seen your big spreadsheet on IF you can block something, but I didnβt see or was too stupid to see in the math if there was something specific for stagger received when parrying. because even when you parry full damage you still get some stagger. is it something simple like 1/2 or 1/4 the stagger that it would be when you take damage to the face or is it some complex equation nonsense?
README tab, under Mechanics. 5th line down.
yeah that works for me too
ok thanks lol ill try to find that⦠is it complicated math that can be simplified? im old and brain no work good any more
Wait but I can block the entire amount take no damage and I still get stagger so what do you mean?
Block is a block.
Parry is just a block with a larger block armor number.
Taking stuff out of the oven is one of the most satisfying things in the gaming world
Give example?
like⦠a troll swings at me, i parry with a bronze buckler block all damage but my stagger meter goes up halfway
so zero damage after parry then why stagger bar?
i assumed just from experience it was something like block is 1/2 the stagger and parry is 1/4, or thats what it looks like roughly
Fantasy description - your arm goes numb after deflecting a blow that would have turned your brain into mush, you need a few seconds to recover before you can parry another blow of that magnitude
Troll Swing does 60
Bronze Buckler parry has 70 at max rank
Assuming 0 skill for ease of maths:
60/2 is not >= 70 so you use the second damage formula.
Dt = (0.25 * D^2) / ((1 + 0.005 * Bs) * Ba * Pb)
Dt = (0.25 * 60^2) / 70
Dt = 900 / 70
12.85 Stagger will be applied and then 12.85 damage goes against your worn armor, which may bottom it out to 0 actual damage taken.
or just you're knocked down
ok so it is some crazy stagger equation even if you block all damage. and you still take damage even when you technically just blocked all damage, that's weird
It's actually quite clever how it is constructed, but yeah it can be veeeery confusing
There are 2 equations.
If you have higher armor or block armor you get the more punishing one.
If you're about to be absolutely slammed you get the nicer one.
Also on the README tab π
well that's nice of them at least lol... i feel like ive definitely felt that blocked a 2 star it hurts just enough to make me go OOOOOKAY not trying that again but im not dead either
omg i cant even look at that equation. is there a rough like..... if i say 60 damage fully parried, i take 12.8 damage. so what is that like 18%? is that roughly flat-ish curve for all damage? like if i fully blocked 100 damage it would be 18 damage?
no more like hang on come on brain. that's more like. 20, 22%
anyway, does that make sense? i know it's not exact im sure but roughly? for all damage amounts?
No because 100^2 * 0.25 is 2500 then 2500 / 70 = 35.7
dang so it scales hard. ok but also food gets better so maybe it balances out assuming you're eating health food
Food directly increases your stagger meter size.
right
Also again, this is just what passes your shield. Then your worn armor comes in and knocks it down even further.
so like parrying 60 damage with roasted boar meat = same stagger parrying 1 star drauger eatign sausage meat maybe
wait but my armor can knock it down to nearly zero but i stil feel like my stagger bar fills significantly
I am not making that sheet π
Stagger from blocking is applied before damage hits your worn armor.
Also on the README tab π
oh so you mean additionally ot the equation we were just talking about right
no i got it i just misunderstood what you were saying
there's stagger from the parry itself via that crazy equation, and also if you just take damage that causes stagger seperately
Under the "It is possible to succeed a block and still become staggered" blurb on the left side.
This happens when the stagger amount added from your block is low enough that it does not fail, but the damage passing through the block fills the meter after being weighed against your worn armor.
right
ok all that helps-ish, sort of answers my wonderings. cuz sometimes i look up "HOW much does a bersker do again?" to see if i can parry the damage, but that stagger equation is just nuts i'll never do that math it's just gonna be experience
like ill just remember i have these 2 health foods im good
That's why the sheet automatically updates to the exact HP value you need to exceed π
You just type in difficulty, shield, and skill level.
It does the rest.
And if you need to know how much HP you will have, I also maintain a Valheim Food sheet π
Just unlocked the Shield Generator but cant find it anywhere to build it.
oh that's nuts.
Have you not been on the sheet recently? π
I spent like 3 weeks writing that update so it is now automatic π
i've not, i saw some maths and i went "alright nevermind" because i have a fairly good working idea just from experience but wanted to know if there was a simple thing
The simple thing is when you go to the Health Thresholds tab π
Where the sheet does all the work for you.
ill probably use it for rare occassions, especially since i just started a hard run and its been a minute i forget. like i can look up battleaxe and drauger elite or example and im surprised there's a prayer i can parry a 1 star elite if i have serpent foods
but that's good to know before holding my weapon out and saying please be gentle
Yeah, it comes in handy on higher difficulties because it can very quickly show you things that are impossible to parry so you know just to dodge.
i even forget normal mode sometimes, like i parried a 2 star seeker for the first time in a whil and was like "oh.. that's it?" i barely got any stagger even
actually, getting trapped by 2 seeker soldiers in a tunnel and pummeled around like a pingpong ball made me go alright this is silly i'm switching back to hard. with the trinkets and parry stamina it's just.. i deserve to have died there, that's crazy.
That's the very thing I dislike about the higher difficulties, they change mechanics. I would prefer a difficulty setting that let me increase the number of mobs, and the chance of them beings starred - but where I could still expect the same behaviour out of those starred mobs. And, for example. allow hard modes to provide starred deathsquitos, lox, serpents etc...
i like hard because it's basically fighting all 1 star mobs, but i would prefer that the 2 star AKA THREEE STAR mobs didn't spawn cuz then its just kite and dodge to oblivion
when you delete game mechanics its less fun
See a two-star serpent rise above your boat, you might realise it is better to flee than to throw your harpoon at it
which you can honestly if you're with the wind, they're not that fast
Yeah. Also, small swarm of a two and one-star deathsquitos would be nightmare fuel
lol yeah imean deathsquitos are whatever, just dodge toward them they're so easy to avoid
A spawner in the swamp mass producing starred elite draugr...ugh. A two-star wraith would probably be hard to parry for a bronze geared character. and so on...
yeah, one at a time you have to be clumsy to be threatened - but when they come at you four at a time it becomes a lot less simple
Time to recruit local trolls
i one time lost my mind on a hardcore server and ran in a mosquito cloud for like 2 minutes straight them all trying to bite me and doing a little circle
this was before mistlands was out and i was at endgame for a couple weeks and had way more time to play, i jus tput on troll armor and tried to die
I remember...
I remember when...
I remember when I LOST MY MIND! πΆ
yeah lol that wouldve been good music for it, i actually set it to flight of the bumble bee because of all the skeetos
That is everything
Except it isn't truly random because they are all pulled from the same master map π
i'm trying to decide between just going axes again... and instead doing hammers with eventually vile set with bracelet of the brave for so much blunt and pierce increase porcupine will be insane.
I like the bracelets. I used them while using maces in Ashlands and the hp gain was nice.
Axes were my love for the longest time.
I am now a spear man, but will immediately go back to axes if they switch the secondary to being a viking throw.
Alternatively if they reduce the windup on the very first battleaxe swing by like 0.1s I will immediately main those.
Ngl that would be fun.
i gotta do spear as secondary cuz i dont use bows i need to attack drakes and gjalls. so im like spear axe or spear sword or spear hammer
if they made 1 hand axe throwable then i wouldnt even need a spear lol thatd be amazing
Indeed.
I love the reward of timing the battleaxe swing, call me a sadist
I understand it should be a slower weapon.
That very first attack is just barely too slow for me to use it though.
I think I only ever get hit because I know I can, eh letβs be real. Iβm going to go axes again for hardβ¦ maybe for 1.0 Iβll do claws and hammer
Nothing beats the feeling of jumping on groups of enemies with a big ax.
Itβs tough because it also has added stagger and beautiful cleave, it needs to suck somehow, but yeah not really viable if you canβt get touched on very hard. is a pickle that I donβt think speeding up the swing doesnβt cause other problems.
I also kind of love just spamming it at an approaching ball of enemies and watching them get smacked back and mow down as they canβt even get close to me
0.1s is that game-breaking? π
hehe you would really feel 0.1?
Yes.
