Doing my regular game recording, it started off with a very nice shipwreck find: #screenshots message

Followed by a fight with a couple of Draugrs, of which the Elite dropped a trophy, then an Abomination which also dropped a trophy and eventually; after I ignored the skelly trophies; a Wraith, which... again ... dropped a trophy.

While I had the Draugr elite and the Abomination trophy, I didn't have the Wraith one. Which means all trophies from Meadows, BF and Swamp are now collected.

All that misses from those biomes is the Wooden Sledge. After that it's off to the mountains for the two trophies and the weapon I need / want to collect from there.

Could be that driver X11/12 problem I have see in the help channel. Smiffe is an expert on it by now.

tulip dove

fossil delta

Its the driver set Valheim uses. Windows no longer auto updates it. So Smiffe has people do manual updates.

I'll see what I can find via google.

Meh, worth a shot, but that would also most likely say "incompatible version" and not "failed to connect"

Just go to Microsoft and follow their instructions for updating Direct X for your version of Windows. Just one more thing to be sure about having the correct version of.

tulip dove
#

will try

fossil delta
#

There is a host of compatibility issues brought up in Steam conversations about having issues running Valheim, connecting to servers, etc...

#

I'd link them, but I don't have that option here.

#

You can then try getting Smiffe's attention in the Help channel. He often keeps an eye out for issues even on the weekends.

Just cleared an Infested Mine, which includes constantly hitting, dodging and parrying, but my Resounding Shackle barely reached 75% for a few moments and never activated. Same for beating Moder or clearing a Fuling village with a Nimble Anklet. The more I use trinkets the more I feel like they're designed for speedrunners. Anyways I have no idea wtf I'm supposed to do other than using that slot for something actually useful.

wooden tapir

The one where before CtA I used to put another item. (?)

wooden tapir

oh, i thought you meant like equipment slot

topaz warren
#

That doesn't answer the question, though. Does anyone have a reason to use trinkets aside from early game ones?

wooden tapir
#

i mean im in ashlands and use a trinket

#

it works pretty fine, sure it takes a bit for it to activate but its not useless

topaz warren
#

Ok, but how? My Resounding Shackle slept through a whole infested mine clearing done in one take, and I even used my forsaken power. Didn't stop fighting aside from the few moments needed to take resources and move to the next room.

wooden tapir
#

i mean i think you are just thinking about them the wrong way, they are not supposed to be something that you are trying to activate, they are a bonus for extended combat. and in ashlands there are a very large abundance of enemies so procing the trinket isnt that hard

topaz warren
#

But clearing a mine is an extended combat. I never fought so many mobs in a row, a mine hits even harder than most raids. If they start working after Ashlands it means there's a huge gap in mid game when they're almost impossible to activate.

wooden tapir
#

maybe, but i think its for the reason of not making them too op

#

imagine you get to proc it every 10 sec

#

you would be immortal

could the thresholds be lowered a bit sure

topaz warren
#

There must be a middle ground between every 10 sec and never. Because I'm sitting on never since I got past the Swamps.

wooden tapir
#

but why is that a problem?

topaz warren
#

Because I'm using a slot, which is a limited commodity. I need a reason to do that in late game, because inventory management is super critical by then.

#

Also, an item that never delivers is disappointing and probably not that good as it could be.

Seed names are the strings displayed to the player and used in world creation, but they are converted to 32-bit integers for use in world generation. This means there are only 4294967296 unique seeds to use for worlds, and each seed will have multiple seed names that can be used to generate them. I'm not sure of any good way to find these though.

Seems they're too big to fly indefinitely, if I slow them with frost arrows they drop down in the sea and are sitting ducks

neon magnet
#

I'm a bit torn. On the one hand, I think the experience of playing a seed blind would be better. On the other - I would like to know that biomes are somewhat accessible (on some seeds almost all the swamps seem to be hidden behind plains etc) and that traders are in places that make sense (Haldor somewhat near center of the world, no traders at weird messy biome intersections etc).

So far I've gone more to the "look at the seed first using the website" side of things, but it also leads to an endless loop of looking for the "perfect" seed (which of course is subjective and changes depending on how I would like to progress through the game).

heady parcel
#

Oh, we are polar opposites haha, I go 100% blind - it is the major charm for me not knowing anything about the world and dealing with whatever quirks it has

neon magnet
#

I would love if I could have both πŸ˜„ Check seed first, give it my seal of approval and then forget everything about it πŸ˜„

heady parcel
#

This for example is my first no-portals run. I am planning to unlock portals once I get to Ashlands - because by feck I won't subject myself to the torture of dealing with THAT without portals - so basically I'll pretend stone portals are the ONLY portals at that point. Anyway it puts a lot more emphasis on sailing than in any of my previous worlds, loving it so far - but this here island is on the verge of bringing me to Ashlands waters, sheesh...

#

Oshit I could turn north, a miracle!

neon magnet
#

I guess I could look through a large amount of seeds and then write down the ones I think fit my criteria... and then note the general things about them without saving a picture πŸ™‚ So I could then go back and pick one without knowing exactly what it looks like

#

Wait a sec

echo wind
# burnt vine is there any way to get back a deleted character?

You might be able to get it back with file recovery software. In general when you delete a file, it's not "really" deleted, your operating system "just" marks the space as "free" so new files can be written into its place. If new files haven't been written to that exact spot, it might be possible to recover the character file.

I recognise the shape of this island, I've definitely had this one on another world, but MUCH further north and completely different biomes

echo wind
heady parcel
# echo wind You can put lanterns all over the place

Bit messy, but I guess it would work. At some point I wrote a suggestion about making the Dvergr marble lanterns you find around mistlands an actual build piece with a MUCH bigger radius of clearing mist than the regular wisplight. That would both make sense and make building in Mistlands a lot more fun. I mean, it could get unlocked after killing queen so you couldn't abuse it to cheeze Mistlands before "beating" it.

I think they add nice things. They're pretty on par with trolls, having bit more HP and more resistances against certain physical damage types but they also deal bit less damage, especially one paw swings can easily be parried even with wooden shield. It also has more variety in attacks than trolls, one attack especially is quite quick one.
Their drops also add nice options in form of new armor pieces and new weapon.

Yep. Definitely a good idea to determine which weapon types work best. Tower shields make them pretty easy, though. Especially the skull shield. They can't even hurt you if your good on your HP.

That's an early game trinket, and those are mostly fine. I'm talking about mid game trinkets. Since getting to the Plains I'm trying all of them and they don't work in any situation: boss fights, clearing villages or mines, being ambushed by 3 big mobs that refuse to die...

All I get is the "you're playing wrong" argument, but I still don't know how to play "right" because fighting non-stop with a forsaken power didn't work any better than lulling. Anyways, is that what IG wants? Telling players it's their fault?

smoky quarry
#

you prob using the large activation stamina which need a good tactic aiming at pumping it, suggest you use the low stam ones for early. Those activate easily when you get sustained engagement. Stam generation gets better the closer you are to many enemies and managing. Closer the better. Range gets less, pole the tiny exception.

Sometimes the night time spawns a huge amount. Kind of sounds like your friend ran into a double spawner there. And the mobs give chase over quite a long distance...easy to pick up more.

I think of it as like a night greyfolk hunting party, usually consists of like 4-5 greydwarves, 1 brute, and 1 shaman, with an occasional random greydwarf (or 3) from a 2nd group. And it seems like whenever you run into a troll (and I'd imagine a bear now) that it always seemed to attract more and more mobs the longer the fight goes on.

The game checks if the invisible box around the piece of deposit Is touching anything that could support it. If it isnt and the piece Is updated (hit with pickaxe for example or if another piece supporting it pops) then it breaks. The problΓ©m Is that the invisible hitboxes are, just like the name suggests, boxes, they have 90Β° corners and have to be able to fit the piece of deposit inside of them completely, which means they have to be quite a bit bigger than the piece you see and can touch. πŸ™‚

Wanted to take things slow first time πŸ˜› fuling pretty easy to deal with it's just about not being overwhelmed ig

fossil delta
#

Yeah, it takes practice. Plus the knock back on tower shields is a huge help with crowd control.

cedar stump
#

Been using round shield since beginning well now the silver one

#

Knock back sounds dope tho

fossil delta
#

I use tower shields because you can get killed screwing up on a parry, and I hate dying. It takes a lot to earn back all those lost skill points.

cedar stump
#

Been rewarding to learn parry timings

chilly gazelle
#

Deep north when?

fossil delta
#

Yeah, parry works only against one enemy at a time too.

orchid locust
#

pretty sure you're wrong, as I've parried a couple enemies together many times already

cedar stump
#

That's when I start to struggle yeah im good 1v1 or 1v2

fossil delta
orchid locust
#

unless you meant that it's a technique best used against single enemies

fossil delta
orchid locust
#

the parry window is relatively big as well, which is why you can time it differently to block different attacks

#

as long as the animations are (presumably) below 100-150ms delay, you can parry both with a single parry

fossil delta
#

Did they change parry? The window was never very big back when I even used parry.

orchid locust
#

I'm used to games with parry windows much smaller than Valheim's

#

maybe it's not big, but it's definitely bigger than what I'm used to on souls games

fossil delta
#

Huh, well I stopped using parry because of how often I died due to missing the timing, so...

chilly gazelle
#

Guys do you knows other games like Valhein or similar

orchid locust
#

I'd say Valheim is one of a kind

fossil delta
#

Enshrouded feels very similar to me.

pliant hatch
#

ASKA, Emperion Galactic Survival, Enshrouded are a couple.

orchid locust
#

Enshrouded gave me really... weird vibes tbh

chilly gazelle
#

I want to buy Aska and dragon wilds RuneScape

fossil delta
#

Been looking at Aska, I also got the new Lord of the Rings survival game. Haven't played it yet.

chilly gazelle
#

Should I buy Aska?

#

And enshrouded

fossil delta
#

I have so many games to play, that I already own, I don't buy anything until its discounted 50% or more, or is under $20. Whichever comes first.

pliant hatch
#

ASKA isn't just survival, but also village management. So be prepared to deal with a lot of NPC's.
You also need to deal with irregular invasions and one regular one. Both increasing in strength and early game they can be a real PitA.

But the one at day 18 is fun for sure. I've had it a few times and I bearly survived.

chilly gazelle
#

Emperion Galactic Survival, game have in steam ?

pliant hatch
#

yup. And on a discount, I think.

pliant hatch
#

I haven't tried much in it, but it's more a space survival game in which you are on a planet, but eventually can move into space as well.
Can be played in solo and MP.

chilly gazelle
fossil delta
gray sand
#

ASKA just sounds like a search engine name 😏

orchid locust
#

"ASKAway, because we have the answer!"

chilly gazelle
#

What about enshrouded they have boss, bioms, different mobs and physics?

pliant hatch
#

Was a small typo in the name.
Sorry for that.

fossil delta
#

πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ I already own it.

#

Probably got it via Humble Bundle Monthly. so didn't remember getting it.

chilly gazelle
cedar stump

been a blast but I gotta get thru all of valheim first before really putting in time! think I played like 60hours of valheim past week or two lol

fossil delta
#

I get addicted to games I like. I end up putting thousands of hours into them. So I never get around to playing tons of other games.

chilly gazelle
#

You start addicted from this game you play like 5-6 hours in a day

fossil delta
#

I'm retired. So when I first played Valheim 4 years ago, I was putting 10+ hours per day into playing it.

chilly gazelle

I know because my friend playing

If you consider 56 as old, yes, I am.

Personally I see myself as an 18 year old in the body of a 56 y/o.
And occasionally others do the same, given the comments once in a while that I should grow up.

fossil delta

The big thing is being retired. None of my friends are. They are all working when they shouldn't be.

pliant hatch

I wish I could go to the plains, but up for now it's the Mountains and the hunt for the elusive Fenring trophy.

fossil delta
#

Yeah, thats worse than the golem, since they only show up at night.

#

Cultists can be even worse, even though I often get them among the first I kill.

pliant hatch
#

I did get the wraith today, but even that one has taken me multiple sessions before a trophy dropped.
While in my other game I had the wraith, abomination and Draugr elite spawn within minutes. Not to mention the usual Karve load of skelly, leech and oozer trophies.

pliant hatch
# untold sinew Why?

Hunt for the Fenring trophy?

Because I want to collect the tropies of all monsters there currently are in the game.
Just like I like to collect the wooden weapons.

I want to ask one of the devs about world seeds, and how they determined the process of world gen and seed titles. How does the seed title influence the world gen, and deep dive into the logic of deciding how to make the influence of the logical underpinnings. 😁 Is this the right spot to ask?

fossil delta

Only one dev even regularly chats here, and he doesn't do the coding.

fossil delta

Hello everyone, I'd like to increase the weight of my inventory via G-Portal. I've already installed Valheim Plus, but I can't find the setting in G-Portal. Can someone please help me?

fossil delta

G Portal has a great set of documents to help with set up.

#

Specific to Valheim.

merry pebble

No worries πŸ˜„

fossil delta

They even help with mods, just not sure how thorough that is. I haven't used them for close to two years.

wet sleet
#

small problem, i have not played in 3 months and i forgot what is the point of mead and what good food to have for swamp area

fossil delta
#

Meads are pretty self explanatory once you get the recipe.

#

Most people like poison resistance, for an example.

#

As for foods, depends on your play style, but generally more HP is good for parry and blocking.

wet sleet
#

i remember something with honey i also remember needing to replant more than harvesting? god its been so long

fossil delta
#

Carrots from the BF, then the one you find in the swamps.

#

Then another you only find in chests in the mountains.

#

Hopefully you remember the plains, and how that works.

pliant hatch
#

I'm quite certain a lot will come back the moment the game is being played.

wet sleet

How do you get blueberries again?

fossil delta

wet sleet

fossil delta

Those you find in clusters. I mark them on my map until I can go get full stacks.

wet sleet

you don't plant them?

fossil delta

Nope.

wet sleet

normal mushrooms and blue berries i just go and look for

Blueberries, my precious.

wet sleet
#

uhhh are Loxes part of the swamp biome?

gray sand
#

Lox* and no, they are a Plains mob.

#

They do like to wander though.

wet sleet
#

are they new?

gray sand
#

Nope.

#

They either wandered over or there is a tiny plains inside your swamp that is spawning them.

fossil delta
#

Yeah, Lox are not new, but other mobs are new. IE added since 4 years ago. Some just a few weeks ago. πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„

wet sleet
#

why the hell do they 1 tap me from full health??

gray sand
#

What's your food?

fossil delta
#

Lox? Because they are a lot tougher than swamp mobs. Well, except one swamp mob.

wet sleet
#

ok so ignore them entirely until i beat swamps

gray sand
#

If you're only at swamp level, lox are 2 biomes ahead of you so they hurt.

fossil delta
#

Probably best to do that, yeah, but you can beat them now, It just takes a lot, since they have a lot of HP.

wet sleet
#

i figured

rugged bridge
#

Use them to bully everything that bothers you in the swamp

fossil delta
#

Like I go into the plains in bronze gear, kill the green guys easy enough, but the Lox, they take a bit of doing.

wet sleet
#

i forgot what the hell do i even do in the swamps

fossil delta
#

Use the key the Elder dropped, mostly.

rugged bridge
fossil delta

fossil delta

Crypts.

Mistlands is far better for iron. Especially in bar form.

wet sleet

why is there a spider tree 😭

fossil delta

#

My wife uses it all the way into the Ashlands. So much for being weak to fire...

rugged bridge
fossil delta
#

Its a "new" monster, if you haven't played this for a long time.

rugged bridge
#

One of the lame parts of the swamp for me. The music is probably the first place from the biome

fossil delta
#

Oooohhh! A lot of events will be new to them as welll. πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„

wet sleet
#

if a swamp doesnt have a crypt i just go look for a new one?

gray sand
#

Yup.

fossil delta
#

Yeah, rounder swamps are much more likely to have crypts. Narrow ones are far less likely.

rugged bridge
fossil delta
#

You can get lucky and find mud piles. Still kind of rare to find. Only get a max of 8 or 9 iron out of them.

#

When half of the pile isn't under too much water.

#

But its how I get the stone cutter before I beat the Elder.

wet sleet
#

i can grab iron from swamps?

fossil delta
#

Preferably the crypts, yeah, but there are also the mud piles, and oozer drops.

wet sleet
#

mud piles have iron?

fossil delta
#

Yep. 8 to 9 of them.

#

Outside of the crypts.

#

Usually closer to 6.

#

Easiest to spot when they have that skull on top of it.

#

Easiest to find once you have Bonemass' drop. Of course.

wet sleet
#

ok i think i have the gameplay cycle back i can play again

fossil delta
#

Red mushrooms are also in swamps. Just hard to spot due to the darkness. I believe its the only food item across 3 biomes.

wet sleet
#

new goal is to get iron from there ill figure it out, i now remember most important stuff

#

i already set up bases and ships with tons of resources

fossil delta
#

Yeah, most of it comes back to you.

wet sleet

didnt know i planned that far ahead but hey im not complaining
