I said something on similar note yesterday, i think that if we get inventory upgrade then people who complained about inventory slots until now will start complaining about carry weight. And if it will get also increased even more than we can now then its rinse and repeat.
The one thing i think, is equipped armor, shouldnt take a BP slot
That frees up 5 slots, Helm, Chest, Legs, Cloak, Accessory
Good enough for me
I always thought that is the more reasonable request, even if i dont feel the need for it myself, but then there are people who just want to add rows and rows of slots
I think in this case, its reasonable enough that it doesnt add to many slots, and then it also is practical so could be justified
what then happens when your pack animal dies
ALL ITEMS GONE, FOREVER
Could put a marker on map similar to player?
and the game would basicly force a meta when you will hate your stupid pack animal for having bad pathfinding, slides of rafts and boats etc. and doesn't want to follow you through a teleporter
another one, and another one, and another one.....................
Indeed...
Mines logical tho!
When I pack my kids school bags, i dont put the clothes they are wearing in it for the day, they wear them 😄
They still have their clothes on 🙂
at home?
Valheim's inventory isn't representing a bag or any physical container, it's just the list of your items
Diablo 2 Style?
Nah too many slots 😉
NO! I couldnt bring my cultivator with me everywhere then! xD
exactly
nor the hoe
Splitnir just wouldn't be usable even with an empty inventory
But see even that game put inventory seperate 😄
Or any atgeir for that matter
most people just want something without hinking of the consequences
If you look there is still armor occupied slots in inventory 🙂
I feel 5 slots is like giving a little without giving too much, i understand what youre saying tho.
Ashlands eats the inventory space if you cant dump anything 😂
the thing tho
armor slots is something that should be in the game basicly from the moment the bird throws you off and you land
A backpack is something you can find, or buy or craft.
But a backpack would mostly be something you race to get, since everyone wants more inventory space. so it would become the main focus until you have it. And a backpack would create some wonky interactions with containers, where you would have to unload from your inventory space to the chest, then from your backpack to your inventory and then to your chest.
this works "fine" for a mod, but if it would be the main game. it have to look right, feel right etc
Just going on a limb here, but if it would be some kind of backpack/upgrade that has slots we could use, could it be added in the way that it unlocks basically new row of slots? That would at the very least solve the chest unloading issue since it would still be one inventory --> chest.
-# Really not going into if something like another row should be added, just if it was.
Yes please! 🤩
Stop players from carrying 3000 stacks of iron ore 😂
Make carts great again! 😅
"make carts great again" once upon a time I was carting iron across a swamp, until it got stuck on a small tree, throwing me into the air, so there I hung as a living archery target for draugr archers unable to unhook myself from said cart.
When were carts great?
When they were not use to launch yourself up into a tree.
Tbh i would love to be able to replicate that 😄
#skill-issue
i mean, true, but you have to admit carts are just meh at best. I think the most useful they've ever been to me is as temporary storage for a smelting area, and at worst, they've gotten me killed.
They are much better than "meh". 🙂 Are they the greatest thing in the world? No. Are they useful as heck? Absolutely.
Just the fact that you can use them as temp storage when you go raiding is enough
Portal hopping into a storage room is normally my go to, but if I’m raiding a new biome I like to have carts handy so I can put my unsorted loot somewhere on the quick
Realistically carts can't be the best thing in the world, if I'm not mistaken they're made of 20 bronze nails and 20 wood. Those are Black Forest materials and the fact that they are still useful later in the game is amazing.
Personally though, I use boat storage instead, but maybe that's just me.
cough if there's a backpack I won't mind having them real-ish item sizes
Boats seems to be inherently better in my opinion, long hauling with a cart is just asking for trouble.
I dont think anyone is disputing that 🙂
but idk tbh if would blend nicely with the valheim environment having realistic items sizes
Maybe i'm just biased though, I have consistently had bad experiences using carts, so many that i'd rather take multiple trips to haul things
Understandable - and it does require some work on how full you can make carts before they become useless
They don’t carry heavy well - quantity of items is better
Example:
if I have to go do a swamp run for iron, I’ll have a cart to put stuff in and flatten a road to and from the crypt
The amount of time i've wasted trying to get a cart down a mountain and it getting stuck, all the times elite mobs have went out of their way to ignore me and target my cart, the handful of times i've gotten stuck with a heavy cart and turned into a pincushion/bitten by leeches or wolves, the times a cart fell into the water and was broken by lox, losing stacks of black metal...
But I won’t haul 2-3 crypts worth of iron in a single sitting 😅
Preparation my guy - flatten a path before trying to haul the heavy stuff 😂
On cart weight, 1800 seems to be the sweet spot. 2k and it's too much
i-.. throw the cart down the mountain 😂, is faster placing down a workbench to repair and let the cart go free will
But yeah no i'd rather run half a kilometer or so multiple times for metal, i've had so many frustrations with carts i'm just done
As of recently i've been trying my hand at permadeath runs, I could not imagine even attempting to use a cart for long hauls. I'm also the only one in my group to survive our recent "very hard" heavily modded run, I was the sole survivor at Yag
Flatten land while trying to haul the heavy stuff 😏
is not the usual? 🫣
hoe in hand and cart on back, spam click that path on your way back
got the game but no friends to play with :( anyone want to play?
Someone in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 might.
Singleplayer is fun to 😄 and what the game was designed for.
But have a look in #1024264966712340510 if you want to play with others from this server 🙂
oh shi mb wrong channel
NP. You're not the first, nor the last.
Probably somewhere in the middle right now, if the expectations for the influx of members after the DN release are right,
So we're used to it. 🙂
Have fun in your co-op!
had to take care of some stuff. As far as flattening land goes, I started playing the game during the Hearth and Home update, when it was on sale. I've still got it stuck in my head that landscape changes are bad, and i've not really heard any evidence to the contrary as of yet- granted, I haven't asked either
Land changes bad?
In what sense my guy?
Like it bugs things out or something?
Honestly I rely on making landscape changes 😅
I was told by others, people I trusted, that landscaping put permanent stress on the world, causing latency. Since then i've always tried to build with the land, with minimal, if any, landscaping. If that's not the case, then... I guess i'll keep a hoe on me, too. One more slot to use lmao
Agreed 💯
Uhmmmmm……
This is not something that is confirmed as far as I am aware 🤔
Never had issues and I’ve terraformed sooooo many things 😅
Terraforming did cause quite the awful fps drops early in development, but now it is much better and you can terraform basically to your hearts content. So the others were not really incorrect but depending on when they told you this they may or may not have had an outdated info 🙂
We have that already with the wolves, so nothing's new there 🙂
indeed
wolves = guard dogs basicly
boar = food
lox = food and well. enjoy a nice stroll in the plains if you want to
Don't forget the asksvin and a nice stroll on the lava 😄
well. that one you can actually ride into lava 👀
To be honest, as soon as I get wolves, I eat the skewer
So to me, I breed wolves more for food then I breed boars.
please don`t make the game easier with hand holding QoL tricks and auto managing or minecraft inventory
Lox = infinite carry capacity 🤩
idk man i love a hard game but when inventory management becomes an issue it can quickly cross a line between fun and tedious
Meh. there are, and will be, mods to change little things like that. Not everyone enjoys the same art, and among those that do, there is more than one way to enjoy a piece- in this case, Valheim. The devs will or won't change the storage, either way there will be purists and those with "minecraft" inventories and everything in between. My personal take is that I love being a loot goblin, and having to leave things behind when everything serves a purpose is unpleasant to me.
i`m not having any inventory issues. Y all need to manage what items you take for specific missions.
I don't go to the extreme of massive stacks and infinite weight or anything like that, I prefer a more tempered approach- people become stronger over time, and I believe that should be reflected in not just damage potential but also little things like crafting and cooking (that we now have) and even being able to carry more
pawning inventory management off as skill issue is a silly take, with all due respect- With Valheim's world generation, an exploration mission can come to an abrupt halt without boat mats, or by extension a portal. Wearing full armor, cloak and belt, 3 foods, two stacks of arrows, healing mead, not to mention potential extras like bog witch meads or key items like the swamp key. Bow and melee, potentially a shield. Hoe, hammer, axe, pickaxe. There's a ton of stuff to chuff around that, sure, you can just keep a portal on you to ferry loot back, but that doesn't change the number of slots taken up by essentials- or at least, what I consider essentials.
i dragged carts thru swamps like a madman, you can do it also
got a whole system now, i make a highway like nowhere else
you can have races with carts, bring them in and out to port like a well oiled machine
Carts are their own entire issue, and not viable in all biomes. Most, sure.
boat has apleeenty space, you load up nicely + your inventory full overweight. Boat ride to port home
if you good, push full cart on boat.
There is no situation that you need all of that at the same time.
No, don`t do that :p
he just wants all the items.
as far as using a cart in a swamp, boy have I done that, and regretted it multiple times as well. Longship has good space, absolutely. As for moving carts on boats? I've lost entire carts worth of iron because the cart hitting the boat broke the boat
kek. Cart thru swamp is my fav. You should see the system of castles and towers i build
skill issue sorry to say, but if i can do it...100% you can.
sorry to interrupt but is there a date the new update is coming out ?
I have done it, multiple times. It's the times that it's gotten me one shotted or stuck and turned into a pincushion that I have an issue with
what you are actualy looking for is for a faster gameplay style with less restrictions. You want more speed overall.
more into the action, less into the counting your rocks
there are other games that have it like that, more hoomp into the action less calculating
There isnt, it will stay in the public test branch until the issues that are found are taken care of 🙂
oh okay thanks i wanted to try the public testing to but my xbox has a skill issue and it doesnt work
but im hyped for the update seems soo good
That's not actually true, when i'm playing in groups I will purposely stay at home to farm, organize, and prepare meals for others. I enjoy inventory mangement in the way that I like to organize things. My issue is that when I go out, I like to have the tools for a myriad of situations.
I'm always the last to do a boss in progression controlled servers, I am always the last to upgrade their gear to the next tier
Indeed it is 😄 slope combat was improved considerably as promised and there is quite the number of new things too.
yea no jack of all trades, swiss army knife tactics here
way I see its like asking to change the inventory from Diablo 1 or 2, a classic. Redo it bigger so i can grab more Loot and charms. Ruinous to the gameplay
Unless I'm going on a dedicated trip to recover someone's body or kill a boss i'm packing everything I need to survive for extended periods
ye i know everything watched many videos for it the adrenaline is interesting with the charms or how its called for me unique concept
youu can pack everything still but dont also expect to be a pack mule
i can take all the tools and weapons and foods and pots in my inventory but it gets full full
Shhh, not in this channel 😄
But they are really interesting and quite nice to use indeed.
No worries 🙂
If i've slain dragons, hauled thousands of pounds of metal and gear across kilometers of land- repeatedly- Conquered entire continents of things wanting to kill me, I SHOULD be able to carry more, over time.
And in that case, it's not even more inventory- it's increased carryweight.
you go fully geared and slay the beast, make a lil base and bring your boat in.
i dont go anyhwere without my boat
its always Near, available. Ready to assist
Yeah. Boats are absolutely essential. Even if it takes longer to go around a landmass rather than across, being able to carry more, slots and weight combined, makes them a necessity
its how it is in the real world. Boat hauling no other can match.
you can swiss army this easily
biome specific, not all at same time though. Outfits for each ocasion
once you get GUD you go without fear in anything anywhere
Bruh. Real life comment aside, once I get troll hide I'm fine up until I get the refined eitr for mage gear*
combat is not an issue for me
i'm currently sitting at 4730 hours, i can beat most things ingame with eyes closed, using sound qeues alone
then what seems to be the problem?
The farther you go into the game, there's more and more things that are used to craft gear, food, and building. Not even including the genuinely worthless items like the majority of trophies that just get thrown out.
man you have a hoarding issue
i find it the opposite, the further i go the less i need
getting more efficient. Except wood and rocks and marble ofc. That always neeeed
i leave a trail of stuff behind me, whole woods sparkle with drops. I don`t grav everything
a major issue worldwide, hoarding. Be it items or wealth.
I'm actually a minimalist compared to everyone i've played with
does not sound like that to mee since you need to take every thrpy home
i randomly gathered 3-4 of each as it happened and gave up.
now you want more inventory room to hoal Moar stuff, more hoarding. You realy dont need much to play this game. Just a good base
I've been playing long enough that I know exactly what items I need for what items. I can remember most recipes without looking, short of ashlands, and I pick up only what's needed.
it aint about knowing what what, but of how much it seems you need.
Like you said, unless it's marble, stone, wood, (though i'd also add tar and grausten to that list) you really don't need more than at most two stacks- outside foodstuffs, of course.
There are a few exceptions here and there, obsidian if you like making frost/poison arrows, and ooze bombs are pretty solid in plains and mistlands dungeons
i`d be ok with removing 5 slots from inventory and making them separate for armor, and only that. Thuss making inventory even smaller 😄
wait no weaps, to problematic 😄
for now u can use armor slot for rocks instead.
the whole thing is based on weight, not slots persay. Thats a hoarding limmiter just like any other good heavy loot game akin Diablos
About that... I won't go into specifics but trust that there is new content in the next update
i hope no extra hand holding slots
removing slots from the inventory is questionable at best
leave it as is. It works.
You do realize that the game's not in a complete state, right? That there is going to be more and more content in the future?
i do want a builders apron though. Gib me
Hoarding is a pretty fresh and once again reductive way of assessing the issue lol
I know, and I hope its not made more to cater for easier, hand holding auto managing
Like would you play banjo kazooie and say you have a hoarding issue? No cause the games about collecting things
....How far have you gotten into the game, dude?
close to 1000h soon. eew
No, as in actual progression.
From what has been said in the interviews and Q&As the next biome will not necessarily be harder than ashlands but difficult non the less possibly in some different way.
nice. Very nice.
yea not battle hard persay, everything else though 😄
ashland is hack n smash already like woods at night
Is valheim any good?
You are on discord dedicated to the game 😄 what answer do you expect?
Best 20 Euro spent on games imo (maybe together with Witcher series, but i have way more hours on Valheim)
You know what? it doesn't actually matter how far you've got, progression wise. I do not expect, nor want, the devs to cater to any particular group of players. I genuinely want them to continue creating with their vision. And if I don't like it? I'll just slap in a few mods to change what I dislike.
I usually like bigger games with good end game content so i was considering it but i dont know if that would be a great game to play solo considering ive got no friends to play it with and also looking at some videos the graphics and combat look kinda bad...?
can`t believe its just 20 bukaroos. Steal
One of my top 3 or top 5 games
Is the combat any good? I can get over the graphics looking bad but the combat looks kinda roblox ish
Graphics are amazing 😄 they are purposefully less detailed, and combat is good too, bit souls-like if you will 🙂
Wdym graphics are amazing dude
The graphics are actually incredible (imho) but the art style makes it look pixely, the combat is good in the sense that it's like diet dark souls but we're getting /more/ combat content soon
Yall got any combat clips that actually feel good to watch so i can get an idea?
Ehhh wouldn’t rlly call it good combat but it’s very nice and simple and easy to learn
It can sometimes feel like a hack and slash or soulslike but at it's core it's a survival game that I feel tries to do everything well without specializing in any particular way
There’s a dodge mechanic but I don’t rlly use dodge ever
So what makes this game so good? How can it have such good reviews on steam? I dont get why everyone says this game is so good i just dont understand the hype whats about
https://www.youtube.com/@Scales1364
One of the best players imo 🙂
Its sandbox exploration survival, great building system, you can let loose your creativity
You could join us, buy the game and find out 😉
The whole vibe the game gives off is amazing, It’s almost like playing Minecraft for the first time when I was a kid but just a different Minecraft
referring a new valheim player to Scales is like giving someone who's never played a moba a video of an Esports match
They wanted to see combat 😄
Jumping is usually better than rolling
@plush umbra if you don’t like games that have a bit of grind I wouldn’t recommend it
Yeah lol that’s what I usually do
Ultimately i'd suggest Valheim to a new player because it's easy to get into. Before Valheim, I was convinced I hated survival games, it's opened a door to an entire genre to me
At this point, i've put 4730 hours into a game I bought for $10 a few years back and i'm probably going to keep going until... idk, actually. It's kinda like Minecraft in that it's gonna be around for ages
with the new potion, its bouncing Wendy all over
Even though me and this.. Sat Ghull guy are arguing over inventory management i'm confident that we both love the game
Stoneshard a similar inventory game like here. Box, but with sizes. Same issue
I play monster hunter and vrising so guess I like grinding (when it's actually fun)
you know larger inv will cause a lot of issues. Not worth it. Rather reshuffle the idea
V Rising has grinding?
at this point i genuinely think you're just ragebaiting with comments like that
I will assume not resource grinding because breathing in that game nets you enough resources to not worry for a while
The only thing im scared about (as a monster hunter player) is that the combat won't feel nearly as good and the game will be too easy and short that's what im worried about
As far as difficulty goes, each biome has its own challenges to face
progression is very linear, and combat is highly skill based
The game will be as short or long as you make it, you can speed through it in few weeks if you are really dedicated, even as a new player. Or one playthrough can take several months, half a year, or longer if you enjoy aspects other than pure combat.
Ultimately if you decide you like the game but dislike certain portions Valheim has a very active modding community. Or rather, multiple very active modding communities
You can tweak several settings ingame even without mods as well
You are comparing two different games
Manage your own expectations
Uh
So it wont be as good?
Good is very much subjective 🙂
It's different
MH is purely or almost purely based on combat
Valheim only has combat as another factor between many others
Valheim is better than monster hunter imo
0/10 ragebait
Again. Very much subjective.
🤷♂️ everyone's entitled to their opinion
If you give valheim a try maybe you’ll agree
You will not know until you try it
I mean there's 25 different monster hunter games, and from what I've played of them, granted not much, the combat/gameplay loop is samey enough in my opinion that I feel like I get a more rewarding and interesting experience out of valheim than I've ever gotten in monhun, again though, not saying monhun is bad, just that I like valheim pretty significantly more
monster hunter? Wtf
That, and they're hard to compare
Im just concerned about thid game looking kinda like roblox with better graphics
Bro saying there's 25 mh games really shows he doesn't know anything about it
not the same type of game my man
The graphics are light year's ahead of Roblox.
in Valheim, there be real monsters!
Yeah but like the gameplay it looks like a cheap indie game
Kinda like roblox
🤣
No it doesn't. Although it obviously IS an indie game.
Dont hate it until you try it 😉
I used to see monster hunter as boring as well until i saw it on sale and said uhm why not and then it became my fav franchise so maybe...
welcome to the Pro Hunter League
Uh
You either don't know anything about Roblox or anything about valheim.
Or both.
Because I have no idea how you are comparing both games
Eh doesn’t rlly look like that at all
Obviously the game isn’t rlly for you since there’s so many things you don’t seem to like about it so why bother
me gonna go play hours 3855 to 3856 in Valheim now... because I am very glad I gave that game a try even back when I not knew what to expect. Never have I had so much fun with a game for such little money 😄
back to building
Show me your build
mid way on a project rn..
I wish they'd put in real ladders in this game.
Plenty of builds in #building-screenshots #screenshots and #1381541790674452571 🙂
I might buy this game and give it a shot at the end of the day there's still steam refund if i dont like it. I went in buying games blind many times and actually loved them maybe i should do the same for this game and stop making pre assumptions before playing it
valheim is literally on my list of games i want to experience for the first time
So good.
Be warned.. The moment you start playing valheim, there is no way back and your reality world becomes valheim 🤣 😉
Borderlands 2 as well
We'll see if it can beat my monster hunter and the finals addiction 👀
i have have played that game for like 200 hours and i can confirm that
I got borderlands 2 for free on steam, played the full campaign and all side missions, i havent played new gameplus though, and then went ahead and bought borderlands 3 just to drop it just 2 hours in...
I should try and pick it up again maybe since bl4 is coming soon
Dont buy valheim, ur gonna be hooked too hard, its not healthy
Nah bro tf
bl3 has a bad story but good gameplay also i have found myself liking pre sequel characters more than bl2 charactes
Late to the convo, but I don't like Monster Hunter or Borderlands, Only reason I have played them as much as I have is because my kids do like them, so I played the games with them.
i love that im talking about anything else expect valheim in a valheim chat, sooo anyone else like terraria?
Ironically I’m in the opposite situation
I like the games, but not enough to buy each new one that comes out. My dad is a big fan though so I always buy them so we can play together
same my dad got me the borderlands games and now we usually play diablo 4 together
Terraria is my most played game, technically
I wish my kids would play Valheim, since my wife and I both love it, so they'd be playing a game with both of their parents, for once.
lucky gal here my son likes valheim and we play together when we got free time 😄
My dad likes the idea of valheim I think but doesn’t have the time to commit to it sadly
for me it is i got 1380 hours in terraria and 1170hours in tmodloader
liking something but not have time for it is sad
Yeah, though tbf valheim is a potentially huge time commitment
i have spent alteast 300 valheim hours in one world and havent killed the 3rd boss yet
300 more hours to find yagluth stone
I'd have to beat him, just for a stonecutter. That or cheat, and bring a couple of bars in...
as my son is still working on his masters degree he got little time to spare, so we have not been playing a lot this last year. But he promised that we will go exploring when the call to arms comes out of ptb 😄 I am stoked 😄
third boss is bonemass no?
Oh, yeah, I'd have iron already. 😄
thats nice😁
My kids are all done with college, its just overly long work hours and trying to have a life with their partners eating up their time.
That's fine, not everyone likes the same things
only the people who want to fit in likes the same things
Very true. Valheim was the first game in a long time, and since, that a bunch of my friends and I all took a liking too.
Always been like that (sadly)
RNG Luck is bad again for me...found one of those cultist trophies got a nice fenris hood. I want another one to hang on the wall and the game won't grant me that wish... killed so many cultists again... sigh me gonna go on killing cultists until I get it and if i have to kill all cultists in the w hole world and end that cult once and for all... so be it ... doing odins work here 😄
What's the most important thing to get from bogwitch?
squirrel hamstrings 😄 bestest mead ever
ive farmed wraths for a cool trophy for so long but havent gotten one
Any others meads I can make with her ingredients?
many
I've gotten more wraith trophies from the raid than I ever did in a swamp.
get everything all of it is interesting 😄
I had pretty good luck and got trophy from first wraith I killed in my newest run.
I got the wraith trophy from the very first one this playthrough too! xD RNG is RNG as always
yeah and as per usual RNG is not working in my favor... noting new there. I am known to stand next to a evil body pile killing stuff until that drauger elite trophy drops... can take days
I think we have 4 total wraith trophies, 1 from the swamp, the rest from raid drops.
Dont worry, i am strugling now with one trophy too 😄
-# Then the certain trophy was so hard to find.
💢
sea serpent trophies have me sailing soooo much.. i usually have more serpent meat than I know what to do with... tsk
I've played Ashlands one more time today, this time running through the game with my boyfriend.
It helps alleviate the relentless feel of the biome a bit but I still feel like it's fundamentally missing something, or just deviating too much from the design philosophy I see surrounding the rest of valheim
I get a pretty good drop rate on serpent trophies. Then my wife turns them into bait. 😄
how RNG works is that if you need something its not gonna drop but if you dont then its definitely gonna drop
Rancid remains trophy also dropped from the first one I encountered in this run.
Rancid is another one I get mostly from the raid.
I got multiple serpent trophies easily
Cause we've just gone in, mined a flametal pillar, done a putrid hole, cleared 3 fortresses and now we're basically done apart from the boss?
Despite how much enemies the game throws at you it feels very much like you blink and the biomes done
It's the law tho: you never find something you purposefully try to find, but encounter it when you have given up or not trying to find it.
ive realised valheim is missing something but i can never figure out what is missing
Irs like devs went OK, war theme for ashlands, let's push it as a combat and engagement heavy biome to differentiate it from prior biomes.
The thing is I don't think the games combat system is deep enough to make it work?
I haven't tried the ptr stuff yet, maybe that changes stuff a little bit
well the new update gives more combat based stuff so
Then there's the sim city side of the ashlands, you get to farm vineberries, build with ashwood and grausten, tame asksvins... bit the game throws so many resources at you at thus point that there's no reason to engage with any of it
The only thing I have "missed" is a variety of interactive NPC's. Those help a world feel more real.
Why bother taming asksvins when riding them into the lava feels terrible anyway and you will encounter so many while exploring that you have so much food?
too much terraria
Never played it, pretty sure I own it, though.
Why make a vineberry farm when the game throws so many at you?
listen no ones forcing you to do anything thats valheim, a game where you can do what you desire
I got me that fancy sword from the ashlands was a fun right getting to all locations and all 😄 also I need to do way more fortresses for the gems... you never know what you will need them for come DN
I lcoked up a boar and now it has the yellow hearts above his head sometimes, how long does it take before I can go near him?
I think its 30 minutes.
is 8 mushrooms in 30 minutes enough then?
More than enough.
so I can just leave him be in there and after 30 minutes its done
i just went to check in google and its 30 min
You still have to stay "near by".
yes and it`ll give you a message that the boar has been tamed or sumthing like that
Yep.
how near is that?
I know that but like, the ashlands progression just feels so off compared to the rest of the game that it's just a jarring dissonance
So go plant/harvest, process ores, whatever you can do that is "near by", and it will be tame before you know it. My base is pretty tightly spaced just for taming reasons.
ahh
You get seeds to make a carrot farm and you get rewarded for doing so, for example. Where's the reward making a vineberry farm? They aren't scarce enough to get that sense of progression from doing so
well I put a little pen not too much near my base really
I thought I best not go too much near it
Not sure, 30 meters or so.
its like up a hill from my base
to be honest i havent explored ashlands like at all last time i "beat" the game was when mislands were added
And that's basically the ashlands in a nutshell. Aside from gems (which you need barely any of) nothing is scarce enough to make any of the other tasks feels good to do
I love the look of them on trellises in my base...that is reason enough for me to plant them 😄
They look nice but I'd just go to creative mode if I cared about making something that looks nice
and if you want to upgrad e your stuff you need quite some gems ...so more fortresses
yes valheim has a lot of creative building
You just want to stay about 5 meters away, to keep from aggro. Great time to increase your stealth.
I never go to creative mode for building I like to earn my fancy base. Good thing that valheim offers possibilities for every taste 😄 At first I hated the ashlands, now that I have gotten used to it a bit, i quite like the ensueing chaos 😄
Taming is how I get most of my sneaking skill points. I sneak around whatever I am taming. Usually gets me into the 40's.
The ensuing chaos is just run and smacking the attack button a few times
It's not involved enough for it to feel fun for me
fr id rather grind for my base than use creative since getting all the materials and finishing the build feels so much more rewarding
My enjoyment came from that sense of "I build this, which let's me do that". Ashlands feels like it lacks this a lot.
One could say that dark souls is just "running around and smacking the attack button a few times" too
Grinding materials to make a base doesn't feel rewarding to me at all unfortunately, I wish I could agree
Building a base is quite fun though
I kind of grind along the way, before I know it I have BM chests full of marble, iron, copper, tar, etc...
that is absolutely fine. Everybody is different and it is good that you can have creative mode and I can go grind the materials, so we both get what we like.
I no longer do super large builds, so I collect more than enough as it is.
I got a full upgraded fenris set AND a whole chest of fenris hair ... it will be probably 2 wooden chests until I get the trophy I want 😄
For my part I tend to separate the 2.
If I want to do creative I go to a server judt for that. For normal gameplay I'll gather materials but I don't make anything fancy, it's always like, bare minimum and looks terrible lol
Even I don't do that bare of a minimum. I still like to use what I learned for making my huge builds.
I love my fancy plains base with a lox herd around to protect it from night spawns and raids 😄 It is just the way I roll... having so much fun building one in every run (after I already build a fancy one in the forest)
no it absolutely isnt when im making my base and look at youtube theres like 20 builds that look so much better than mine i get so much envy that i get burnout from the whole game
I'll only build a base once I naturally have an extremely large surplus of materials
its been happening quite often in games where you can build
Like from hoarding stone gathered while mining copper/silver
But you can learn to be that good. Its what I did. My early builds are a comedy show.
Or from the extreme amounts of grausten the ashlands throws at you simply for being there
forgive me if this is foreword and offensive but I feel like that says more about your insecurities about your builds than it does about whether or not the mechanic in the game is fun
In those cases I'll make something more substantial
Like I promise you those 20 builds that look better took like 100 builds that look waaay crappier than yours
that is completely true..
I have some builds I'm not proud of but I wouldn't have the builds I'm proud of without them, it just takes time and patience my friend
I mean those insecurities can make or break fun, and fun is a subjective taste anyway
the trick is to just start building a house no matter what you can call it a home
or build tiny camp sites
I've been concerned I wouldn't like Ashlands simply because the theme is so over done in so many games. I've been hoping I will be wrong, but I will start finding out soon. We beat the Queen today, then move into the Ashlands. So my first real "dig in and find out" play through with the Ashlands.
I don't get insecurities like that for Valheim for example but there are other games I've 100% avoided playing due to how my poor performance made me feel vs others. Feeling like crap isn't fun too
yeah its likehaving fun going to plains and figuring out theres things called deathsquitos
true enough to an extent, but there is a certain amount of the depth and interest of a mechanic on its own that can make or break how much potential for fun can be had with the specific mechanic itself
this is why people like mistlands very much, its unique
like without getting too much into the nuance of it there is very much a reason I prefer building in valheim than just going to say minecraft and building
oh that was a lot of fun when I first got there...zing dead... ou and how do I get back my stuff now... 😄 the plains have been my favorite biome for so long... the Mistlands have overtaken it now... but plains are great fun and peaceful once you got a patch spawnproofed
is the 1.0 2025 2026 winter?
we do not know... we will have to wait and see... .but one can hope
discovering your first abomination is a scene i wont forget
there is no official release date, nor any accurate speculative one, game comes out of the oven when it's done
My first troll is still pretty well embedded in my memories. Abomination is up there too. Plus my first time being Hunted.
I can agree that potential for fun is high, but that doesn't always equate to fun itself xP.
Having lots of mechanics and being complex doesn't equate to fun if those mechanics don't fit together in a satisfying way
Not saying valheims building is like that
My first memory of the growths is just being dead, all of a sudden.
Though there are a few frustrations with valheims building mechanics
yeah, but I mean like each individual mechanic (e.g. the combat, or the building, or the survival) has its own "fun ceiling"
complex game? you talking about warframe?
I hate that making nice things basically requires us to use awkward bypasses and tricks like temporarily building doors to force specific measurement snapping, for example
I usually get so overwhelmed in games with a shit ton of mechanics that I do not understand and skill trees where you need calculus to determine what would be best to spent your skillpoints on 😄
To me that aspect of base building just flat out sucks
Like sure, I can snap half a metre with doors. Cool.
It feels like an overly convoluted and unintuitive way of doing that though
to me it is great fun, figuring out how to make things the way I like them be with the limitations. I love experimenting and finding new ways to get things nice
Like we could have tools that makes that kind of snapping easier and more intuitive
Even if it was just like a dedicated dummy measurement piece that said half metre snap.
Yeah, I am happy building, now. Man, in the early days, I really hated it, but the learning was a cool experience. People let me visit their worlds, showed me how they did things, etc...
that would be kind of a kill joy for me though - it is part of the fun for me working with the limits that are given and make something I envisioned...but as we agreed prior... everybody is different...
i was gonna say that youre going a little too deep because of a video game but its valheim were talking about
and for me valheim is everything
i wish there was stuff like this so i wouldnt need to download a quality of life mod for it
the only QoL mods I will ever use is "Dude where is my portal" and "tubawalk" both by oathoars.... I am the forgetful player and having 10 blank portalmarker on the map and not knowing what that was suosed to mean... drives me bonkers: I led the mod set the markers... and that is all I need (for my forgetful brain) 😄
never used mods before in valheim
I did not us Mods for 3500 h ..only lately with the "Trophyhunt Mod" I did discover those two and not needing to remember to mark the map where I left my Portal is gold for little old me. 😄
even got a little into "quasi speedrunning" with the trophyhunt mod and all the trying to get better at it. So much fun
i havent even learned how to get mods for valheim
they can tell you over in mod-discussion... very helpful folks over there they helped me figuring it out too.
one more frost cave on this mountain... crossing my fingers if i do not get the trophy I will have to go find the 4th mountain
wow that is the third tetra cave I found
nevver got that lucky before
I got it I got it I got it.... yaaaay... .happy dance 😄
yeah about the mods.. too bad im on linux and im already tired of trying
Is there an "ending" to valheim? As in like, does something lore-wise happen when you defeat the final boss? Cuz like, the whole point of being here is to prove to Odin that you're a worthy warrior, right? One would assume that defeating the final boss would mean you are found worthy, right?
Once Deep North is added it will add the end too.
@shy marlin is it intuitive to use block combos if i get good enough to time the parry or is it just a waste of time?
i was gonna say that the game wasnt done yet
oh ok so it's in the works still. Everyone is still unworthy 😭
but we get lots of practise we will be worthy in no time once the ending is developed 😄
not really if they make the biome last longer
👀 You got giant petrified skeletons at your base?
there will be a ending once the Deep north and 1.0 patch is out
will we have gta 6 before this happens?
Well
we got info about ending like
when we kill every boss we enter vallhala
I haven’t really done all of the optimization and operations of the combos but the short answer is, if you can get all of the attacks in yes do it
It becomes a little more complex bcuz you dive into the realm of dps uptime and windows but yea
your guess is as good as mine
yea thats kinda what i was wondering about, like would it be worth it to optimize like that, its also kinda hard to impliment in later biomes just due to the amount of enemies you are fighting at once
Yup
I really only ever use them against bosses
But I also don’t particularly enjoy the combos (they ruin the flow imo) so I don’t go out of my way and learn how to best incorporate them in daily shenanigans
honestly the final boss should give you something that makes greylings be scared of you as like a passive thing
I'm really curious how many players play the game modded vs unmodded. Some youtube commenter was trying to convince me that I'm missing out not playing with a list of 12 mods they mentioned saying the game is incomplete without them and I thought that was silly.
The final boss will finish the game.
I am with you about that is silly... not even silly it is even incorrect and insincere to present ones personal opinion as a final fact.
I have been playing this game for 3500h without any mods...
respect
The game certainly isn't incomplete without mods. There might be some that players find make the game more enjoyable or easier but they're not essential.
Yeah, game doesn't really need mods tbh. Understandable tho for those who has played games like Terraria that has crafting from chests and quick stacking to nearby chests as features, for example.
Game is complete when devs say its complete 🙂 mods are always just additions.
Crafting from chests is lazy and immersion breaking.
What a ridiculous claim the person made.
I play unmodded, and the game has never felt incomplete in a way that mods would change.
It is literally incomplete, for now, obviously, but that ain't "fixable" with mods.
It fits for those other games but I prefer current system in Valheim.
I can't believe this is real. I found a world seed that's so perfect you can go all the way from deep north to ALMOST Ashlands without a boat!!
Sure, mods can add a lot of stuff (like recycling items into resources, or planting more items), but the lack of those features in the game in no way makes it incomplete.
show me
the numbers where alot less modded than unmodded by a landslide
Unsurprising.
niice 😮
I had one of those before
not really walk connected. Sea lanes are big. But that one big beautiful middle island
being able to see your whole world like that might be useful but ruins the vibe of exploring
but thats just me
So I made a path with markers to show you where I did it on survival
when will the Call to Arms be released in the main version?
Enshrouded has magic chests which require weirder ingredients but then you can use them when building anywhere nearby.
For a game with magic and portals I dont think thats immersion breaking.
That would be my guess.
Wait - to be clear - you're saying "there are far more unmodded players than modded players" ?
When it's ready, there are some issues still to resolve and can take time.
it's less than 5%
This is a thing with fan communities, the 5% or so that really engage at this level don't represent the playerbase as a whole, sorry to say.
personally ive played half and half, but all the mods ive ever used were purely qol mods that didnt change gameplay too much. just some things to save a few minutes here and there like planting and harvesting more than 1 crop at a time
i think the base game is quite good by itself, just a few things that i personally dont like so i will sometimes use mods that fix those issues
Yeah, Valhiem is alright, I guess
I deffinitely havent lost the last month of my life to this game lol
worthh itt
no prevision? I am in the beggining of a play through right now, finding my way to Bonemass, but I read the patch notes and the stamina changes look soo cool that I am seriously consider hold on and comeback when it is on the main branch
saw some nice decorum mods, one can go wild
No info about how long it will take.
I've delayed my dedicated server until that, but, if youre having fun now then its all the more reason to enjoy a 2nd playthrough later
we are about 1% userbase on discord 🤔
there are still several more months before full release most likely so you can definitly finish an entire playthrough. no need to hold back
or like 0.85%
Historically content patches have taken around few weeks, but this update adds things we've never had before so it can take bit longer than that, depending how fast devs can fix those issues.
So total player base is around 17,3-17,4 mil 🤔
i thought valheim was underrated
Yeah I agreed in parts.
But IDK, I already past the Bear part on the current play through and would be like my 6x run, IDK if I have enought energy for it. Still didnt even visited the Mistlands because of dropping and comeback later
O!ptb

full release, you mean the 1.0 with deep north?
Deep North will be 1.0 release, yeah.
It was huge hit when it was released.
Possibly, but we all speak only english here 🙂
ow no, I am just on waiting of this new combat mechanics for now. My plan was to have a full world with all bosses to be just going to Deep North when Launches
gotcha. At lest 1 month on this
Well, since we dont even know when the combat update will go live, we have literally no idea when DN will come. It will not be soon probably tho
and probrablly when relesed, it will broke the VR mod, so I still gonna have this to be fixed too
Yes, mods tend to break after bigger updates.
Virtual reality record?
I was hopping to end of this year
for xmas because it fits with xmas tree popup
According to devs no updates planned for the end of the year
Virtual Reality mod with 6 degrees of fredom
hope dies last
would be nic to explore the cold deep north on xmas
you never saw the VR mod of Valheim?
More like i am not interested, hence why i dont even go to mod channels here
yeah, I dont like to add things different from what the devs inteend too. But the VR, simply put you in 1rst person, track your arms and give you the same experience but in a fresh way
🤷♂️
For example, to parry, you need to literally put your arm on the hit direction, or to use the bolt and arrow, you need to grab the arrows on your back and put on the bolt, is a vibe
too much physical work. Me want chill pogo
im so mad at myself
i had once build awfully pretty BBR grill in valhim and had saved SS of it, however now i dont remeber how was it possible because i cant reconstruct it. Idk how or why it even worked because now it doesnt make any sence
worst is that id swear i had ss of it taken, but i cant find them anywhere 😢
ok complaning about stuff not working untill you coplain about is seriouly a thing
i just made it work XD
keep it up champ
Does the elder boss arena give comfort? Trying to figure out why my elder hobbit hole base has 1 more comfort then my portal tower
No it just provides fire
You’re probably forgetting about one category of items that provides comfort
I just took a trip down memory lane. Just "visited" my first ever character and his world. I had not done so since before Mistlands, so I was a bit nervous about the world update. Everything looked fine, all my builds are just fine, etc... The most surprising thing was just all the memories it brought back just going around to all those sites. It was enjoyable.
nothing beats a trip of nostalgia
Yeah, it was also interesting to note how much my gear load out has changed since then, too. A lot of lessons learned since those first few hundred hours.
i know probs asked alot but im returning from launch, on avg how long after patches go to PTB before going live ?
Hard to guess, and it is a guess. I'm going with 4 weeks.
all good, always worth an ask, some games usually pretty consistent with when betas go to main branch but understand its not the case for all
There is a LOT to this update. I read the spoiler list. Again, its a LOT.
better ask than be sorry
How can they be? You can't predict what might be found. Or how long the foix might take.
yea i havnt dived too deep into CTA update stuff still have to get through mistlands and ashlands haha
Nice. I've really enjoyed Mistlands.
some studios are very consistent with time frames after something goes to beta but others obviously is anyones guess depending on how many issues come up on PTB
Hey my fellows, I have something I need to ask:
Am I the only one that tried getting friends into Valheim but they absolutely hated it?
no
i got lost in them for an hour the other day after going for a venture in
I have invited 3 friends into Valheim so far and only 1, which is a girl, didn't dislike it
Yes. Your friends are probably the only ones who hate this game
No, the game isn't for everyone and nor can or should it be.
I wouldn't say they hated it, but Valheim did not "grab" them, etc... They "beat the game" as it were, and have rarely played since.
I kinda felt bad because I really like this game and thought that I maybe couldn't introduce the game well enough
ive invited one of my friends and he didint know how to play so i tried teaching him but he didint even listen and then stopped playing because he didint know what to do
Along with what Derek said, there are plenty of popular games I have no interest in playing, so I get it, if they don't like Valheim. No game appeals to everyone.
valhiem scratches my tism for building and survival , rust is peak but its either boring on pve or a gauntlet on pvp servers as a solo lol
tho valhiems cooking and food system is peak
so many people like roblox but ive never even opened the whole game
and the work bench upgrades making you build aesthitic work stations
Then you just discovered the definition of target audience
valhiem i think for alot can be hard as you can lose direction easy with out constant quest givers pushing you around
Yeah, I have a rather long list of popular games that I have no desire to play, so...
...valheim it is
The game is extremely linear at its core.
To kind of paraphrase an old saying..."You can lead them to Valheim, but you can't make them love Valheim."
its like trends witch are for some people but for us its complete nonsense
valheims cool valheims nice and they have a good community
Not been to Reddit, huh?
noot really
You're not missing much.
well i like valheim and theres nothing who can change that
i only see people getting dunked on by ulvs, idk what ya talking about
well reddits also been like that for most games so idk
I've never been one to listen to the opinions of others about games. If it looks interesting to me, I'll give it a try.
couldnt find a good response sry also im out for now
I'm the same way about many things. Movies, TV shows, etc... If it looks interesting to me...
you get curious🥱 😴
Silly me tried using a red jute curtain
That's human nature it's existed for a very long time curiosity has made humans work smarter and find thinks to do
Ngl valheim is one of the best games I’ve ever played which makes it heartbreaking that it’s not on PlayStation because my pc needs work that I can’t afford and I can’t run it until I get it fixed 🥲
Yes it does when you're under ground.
It should even do when you sit down next to that sacrificial fire at the altar.
CL 2 under ground. I don't recall if its the same or not, when you sit next to it. I should, since I've turned that altar into a home, twice.
Campfires without a roof over it gives a small comfort bonus when you sit next to it.
I think I got 3 rested bonus the moment I spend a bit in my Portal hub, which is build under the Elder portal.
iirc it's 1 from the fire and 2 from the fact I'm in a sheltered area.
I just recall that it was not as good as having a camp fire.
Oh sweet so elder bases will have more comfort than regular bases? That’s actually awesome
No.
You will be able to build a better fireplace than the campfire the moment you unlock iron (so when you're in the swamp) that will give you 2 comfort from the fire alone.
There's also other items that will give you comfort, so a base near the fire of the Elder Altar doesn't have more comfort.
This will help you to get maximum comfort, but be aware, it will contain spoilers: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lGv_8efnTaAjYSLKGaquMbulrbalgBB3_69CaQ_54L4/edit?gid=1565192131#gid=1565192131
When will I stop using root armor in this playthrough?
This has been one of the longest standing mysteries of our time...
When you think you find a better one.
Which can be when you switch to armor suitable to support magic. Or when you think you found something better in the (current) last biome.
A lot of players keep using it in the Mistlands, as the pierce resistance is quite useful when fighting monsters in that biome.
However, at the same time the fire vulnerability will make it a bit more tricky to use; considering you will encounter enemies using fire in the Plains, Mistlands and Ashlands.
using root armor in ashlands sounds like a unique challenge that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemies
keep the chest
The challenge of making it easier as several annoying enemies deal pierce
But surely the fire vulnerability makes it a death sentence if you get hit with fire stuff
Fire wine
Does that cause them to cancel each other or does it provide resistence in spite of the armor?
Resistances override weaknesses
I wear it there, and im not using the barley wine, and I dont have any issues yet
So it also works with the feather cape
wow
Small damage resistances guide:
Overrideness:

isnt refined eitr spirit?

Dodge : Hello!
I wish you could set it to only ore is unportalable
I was not mentally prepared to sail 20 minutes to bring this back to my base
Log out of your game, set the world modifier for portals to "portal all", join the game, go through the portal, log out, return the modifier to default settings, join the game and continue.
And if it helps, you will get eventually a portal that will let you teleport that thing without changing the modifiers.
"eventually"... Me 700 hours into the game and I only just got to the point of understanding that reference 😭
I know a player who's got close to 4K hours and still haven't unlocked that portal.
I've got 1,535.2 hours and have unlocked it only once.
So yes, "eventually" you will get it.
It depends at how fast you go through the various biomes.
But if you feel it takes too long, using the world modifiers is an option.
yeah I usually play with 2x resources because I don't have time to grind for everything and still see the end of the game before I end up stopping the playthrough
I'm using 1.5x resources as that often would give me an extra item due to the rounding up.
But at the time I was working at my base, I had it set to maximum to make sure I didn't spend 6 months collecting all the stone I needed to raise the land.
Still, with 1,5 things to faster, but not too fast for me. But the biggest benefit of it was that I didn't have to mine out the entire copper vein. Just "cutting the top off of it" was enough when it was done at 4 veins to get me the copper needed to progress through the BF.
Disadvantage, I think I have about 100 withered bones and have at least three times that many stored in chests or simply dropped on the ground in the sunken crypts where I salvaged the iron scraps.
Its more meant for when u have multiple ppl in a world so you can turn loot up and not have to grind 3x to 10x as much for the same stuff
Or speed running
Well, we beat the Queen, and neither of us died. We then made it into the Ashlands, So far we have seen the new serpent and a flying winged thing, but no actual land as of yet.
So I’m confused. Are we getting equipment slots in the next update? Or are we not? I’m just shocked we don’t have them yet cause how can you justify having something in your inventory but wearing it at the same time. Also when you equip something it should be taken out of your inventory. If you pull something out of your backpack and hold it it’s not longer in your backpack but in your hands. Not trying to suggest anything just venting due to lack of inventory space
We haven’t heard anything official at this time, but Irongate has commented on it on X (Twitter) I believe? It’s a really hot topic at the moment, so there’s been a lot discussions in the community about it.
I hope they do something cause it’s just way to tedious mid game and after. Tedious does not mean challenging.. idk I really hope so. I have faith they will eventually make the right decision as the game (other than inventory) is a masterpiece. The only thing holding it back is the inventory.
So is it already explained why hammer knockback is so high? The secondary attack knockback is fine, but it sucks trying to connect 3 primary attacks
If you are talking about frostner then I’m not sure it matters too much due to the slowing effect after hitting but other maces I’m not sure.
Yeah 4 more slots dedicated for armors is good imo, total of 7 with potion is not needed but would be a blessing haha
Yeah Frostner, kinda sucks to only able to land 1 primary hit, wait then 1 primary hit again
I just say 6 enough for armor belt and whatever you are holding in your hands. It just makes sense logically speaking
instead of connecting 3 attacks altogether
I've been using comfyquickslots
Yeah I feel you on that. I usually just try to smack once and then run behind to finish off. Helps against fulings
Yeah I just love the animation cancel, lowkey sad it isnt useful other than fighting bosses
I was told there is some kind of stamina boost that can be activated after defeating the first boss
put the trophy u got from boss on the boss stone (the place u spawn at)
then interact with it, you get the boss power which you can activate when needed for 5 minutes iirc
reduces stamina usage from running/jump
Super Vikiiing Powaaa (It's Not Over 9000)
How long in PTB?
well the patch drops to PTB in 08/20, so 9 days ?
Until it’s ready
I’m naming my next swamp base The Leach Lodge 😂
Not something like “10th worlds blood bank”? 😂
If I build a pharmacy 😅
Got it to work, thanks!
Do you guys keep extra gear at your base in case you die in a place where it is difficult to retrieve your stuff?
I don't usually die (except for when I'm building at my base in a half-asleep condition and forgetting to eat food, and slip on a ladder or something)
#1 killer in Valheim is still gravity...
#2 being Logs
I tend to simply save my old gear and have it on item stands so I can quickly grab it if the need arises.
The knockback is useful against multiple enemies at the same time as you can switch between targets when you hit one back and then another, keeping the primary 3 hit attack combo going on.
Yeah Frostner shines as a defensive oh-shit weapon when you need control over the battlefield more than sheer damage output.
My new house has the runestone for this 😅
I usually use swords for fighting, but once I have the Frostner it stays with me a loooong time
Runestone of Gruesome Log Death ?
I'd like to be able to raise my own runestones 😕
Runestone 😅
The one about a tree falling on your head, cursing the gods, then erecting a stone to ask forgiveness 😂
ah, that one, yeah, the Runestone of Gruesome Log Death
Hello, quick question
is Valheim a game only for multiplayer or is singleplayer still possible and fun?
Single player very possible and fun
I see, thank you!
I heard the game was mostly designed for multiplayer so I was scared at first I won't be able to enjoy it
Mostly designed for solo actually, or small group co-op
That's great ^^
Well, my plan is to get the game at the next sale which apparently will be in like a month, since steam will have some festival then
You won't regret it 🙂
I hope so!
If I could pick one game to "start over" and play for the first time all over again, it would be Valheim. A word of advice - don't read wikis or watch too many youtube "50 tips every valheim player should know blah-blah" videos. Valheim is all about learning by doing, exploration and discovery. And a wee bit of fighting.
Thanks for the tips!
My plan is to leave this server and rejoin after I actually buy the game tbh
To avoid spoilers and such
Good luck! And enjoy!
Valheim is designed as a singleplayer game with co-op 🙂
but can also be adjusted somewhat to multiplayer by some world-settings
When I use shift+click to craft 5 items at a time, does that count as five crafts with regards to skill experience? Or just one?
I believe it counts as 5 crafts 🤔
Since the bonus that gives you extra items can proc multiple times when you do that.
yes
Deep North base is going to be called "Club Baby Seals"??
Yag's the easiest to be found by accident while exploring a biome.
My best Yag altar discovery was when I was looking for Haldor / Hildir / Bogwitch, spotted Hildir's symbol at the map, went there, and noticed some pillars in the distance. Moved into the plains as far as I dared and recognized them as Yagluth's.
Which meant I have to craft one less portal in my portal hub, but what a great find! 😄
thats lucky
Based on my experience with the latter biomes, the baby seals will club you

Am I imagining things or did Draugrs use to drop leather alongside entrails
If they did it would’ve been before mistlands because that’s when I started playing
Afaik they never did, maybe you are remembering getting both from the muddy scrap piles? 🤔
mayhaps. I began work pausing draugr spawners at a village I found but no point making it a farm if I'm not going to farm leather 😄
-# Goes back to boar farms I suppose
So far I have an indoor greydwarf farm, spawning them on to a 1 x dirt tile with a greydward brazier. And a indoor skeleton farm ontop of a mountain
trying to make farms of everything spawnable this playthrough
(also at mistlands currently)
did call to arms make frostners handle longer? or am i seeing things
hope this isnt a big spoiler 😨
Regardless it should go to the proper channel 😄
You're seeing things in the wrong channel for sure.
O!ptb

duh
wish barrels could stack
I agree that would be cool. I also wish we could get the tasty mead from the dvergr drink barrels without having to destroy the barrels.
hold up imagine being able to craft drink barrels and fill them with meads that you can pour in to a tankard/dvergr tankard/horn of celebration
Oh, I can imagine it easily enough. 😄
closest i've gotten to make barrels stack is to clip the bottom slightly into a wall, place a 1m floor manually, clipping into the first barrel, placing the second on that also clipping into the wall then breaking the small floor- so long as your barrels are slightly clipping into the wall you'll have stability
They will hold up on almost any type of support, So if you just have them standing next to a wall you can make a floor on top of one, place one there, break the floor and it will stay 🙂
does anyone know if there's a mod that lets you put more fuel in torches? I know mods exist that make them infinite, but I just want to dump a stack in them and rarely come by to top them off
bonemass is such a horrible boss design he has both of the 2 biggest flaws that videogame bosses can hav
What are they?
undodgeable ability that needs preparation rather than skill, and summons
guys i should be just able to give over my worlddata to my friend so he can boot up the server right? or ist it more complicated than that
i went into locallow and wolds_local
oops wrong channel
Wdym undodgeable
ur forcibly poisoned by the cloud if u run away u cant deal dmg
happens
he cycles so fast that its permanently lingering on him
What’s wrong with summons? In my experience the summons can barely scratch you anyways, and without spoilers I will say that they’re actually useful to you in the new unpublished patch
It doesn’t permanently linger on him
But also the poison cloud is nearly a non issue if you just drink a poison resist mead
yeah im not waiting 50 mins afk to play the game
Why would you need to wait 50 minutes afk?
mead barrel
You can sleep in game to skip a lot of time, and you can do other things while you wait
Personally I consider learning what the bosses weaknesses and strengths are and preparing for them to be part of the fight
no
bruh
if u have poison mead then u could beat it naked with a flint spear all the difficulty comes from preparation wheres the fun in that
You’d need a lot of flint spears
And you can do much better than that, that’s where the fun comes from
Make a mace, drink some mead, and dodge the swipes
prep your battlefield, be fresh, max Hp and clubber the blubber
All Hail the Hoe!
God of all Tools
difficulty comes from preparation wheres the fun in that
yeah, almost as if that was the point
"Why does proper preparation makes things easier it doesn't make sense"
does the difficulty slider not increase the hitpoints of mobs?
It reduces player damage
by how much? is harpoon exempt?
15% for hard and 30% for very hard
it affects any dmg source from the character
I noticed harpoon does half hitpoints of a boar no matter the difficulty
half the hitpoints of the boar are gone after being pooned once
I'm on very hard right now, trying to increase my odds for a boar**
pooning boars on very hard
I've always had to lead them back to a pen and never tried harpooning
I've done the ET/Reese's Pieces method leading them into boar towers with mushrooms.
bubble 1st then poon
dragging them with a harpoon is soooooooooo much easier
usually by the time I have magic I have no need for boatloads of boar materials but that's a great idea for wolves
like a 5 minute job compared to a full hour of leading them
just make a clear path to destination not to break it
If you don't want to wait on meads you are going to have a rough time later in the game. Plus why would you need to go AFK? Go gather materials, make foods, farm, ect.
Or make the root mask which makes you resistant to poison
Poison resist mead has higher damaged reduction than the mask.
I'm aware but he doesn't want to wait for meads so go with the second best thing
All good
with hammer mode on, i found the queen's location before i found yagluth's location. none of the 3+ rare stonehenges i found has a vegivisir. i got so bored of the plains biome, i wandered into the mistlands with limited visibility and found the queen's location in the very first infested mine.
finding yagluth is pain
ive had like 4 burial chambers without elders location then i found 5 elder locations in one chamber :/
i hear people saying that - i've been sailing around.. to no avail
lol
tbf only found one other location 😄
i hate it when i need to sail against the wind tho. that's when i usually get back on land
moder's power - takes time to recharge
being chased by serpents and the wind changing opposite way is actually scary
being chased by serpents? i instantly stop to hunt serpents. Serpent food is very good.
you keep moder for that exactly 😄
pretty easy to kill as well.
its in the beginning of the game when youre starting the game for the first time
when that thing pops up while you in a dingie, yea
ive seen a lot of players use rafts witch i already knew how it was gonna go
with your honey & berries HP pool, haha
ive only ever used a raft once to get to the very close island and i hated every second of it
raft is good for a ferry ride from here to the land i can clearly see there but looks too much to swim to, exploring the ocean with it is quite... daring?
nuh uh rafts are only good when leaving mountains
ym using them as sled and betting if holds up together all the way to the meadows down there
?
mountains are also good for catapult rides
-# 🗣️ i believe i can flyyyy🎶
i had a weird interraction with a wolf once because when i killed it my character launched several meters foward and i fell to my death
i get that from rocks thrown by pesky woodland roamers
i believe that happens when your character stands on a tilted enemy's hitbox as they receive knockback
WTB builders apron
I think there was a patch that mostly fixed that scenario, but it still happens
Can also use this to "tether" you and the creature of choice and launch yourselves to a location 🤭
heard of that patch, but knowing valheim's bug patching track record, i'll believe it when i see it
absolutely yes
or uh, don't see it in this case
when it happened to me it was 2023
I want to join vanilla server now if possible with a few good players for social too 🙂
Make sure to look in #1024264966712340510
did frostner handler get longer?
No?
looks a lot longer idk if my mind is just messing with me
here's an image that seems to be from march 2021 judging by when the article it's from was last updated.
don't think it's ever changed, it's just a pretty long hammer compared to popular depictions of the weapon it's based on
Seems the same as now, yeah.
yeah i just think i havent used it in a while
The handle on my Frostner necklace is long too, and I bought that years ago. Just sayin.
This game loves to toy with me. I was searching for 2+ hours easily for leviathans. Couldn’t find one, I caved and opened up world viewer and there is 6 that I went by. I hate the ocean mist 🤣🥲
Anyone know where i can find a list of mist and ashlands mobs ID's to spawn in on creative?
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Mistlands and https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Ashlands Have list of hostiles on the right, and each enemy page has the id in the box on the right 🙂
Be careful or you will be renamed to Asatru, Poster of Wiki Links. 😉
True xD lately i have been posting quite a lot of them.
Lately there has been quite some reasons to post them
Randomly got the fader music while listening to music lol, now i'm all amped up
Silver sword or crystal war axe, which one do you prefer?
Silver sword
thx
Getting the "you are being hunted" event, just as I managed to sneak into a Fuling tower....
Priceless.
Hey guys, just a question. How many ppl can a server hold up to?
Yea, I just had a thought what it'd be like to kinda role play a clan of 20-50 people
Though to realize the hardest part would be to find that many who actually can play in between life
Though if I were to imagine, start would be very tough
If you dismantle a maypole and learn the recipe, it can only be built within the event window correct?
Yep. Plus, during the event , you learn the recipe the normal way. IE touch the components.
@fossil delta word, ty
Ok so I get to the mist lands on a new play through and I die. Okay fine but right when I spawn back at home I get a mist lands raid event? I mean what part of that do you guys find a fun challenge. Why does this dev team seem to think tediousness and something like the raid happening the moment you unlock the mist lands is any kind of fun. It honestly makes me want to just put the game down cause atp it feels like I’m being punished simply to play it
No piece from the plains biome can properly defend against seekers so why am I getting a mistlands raid right when I step into the mistlands. I don’t know about y’all but that’s incredibly poor game design
And I know some of you will say “just turn raids off” well I have a question for you. Why should I turn off a key mechanic of the game? Because the devs just can’t get it right? That’s sad. Honestly.
Probably my favorite game of all time but I’m getting tired of ignoring blatant parts of the game that were just lazily thrown together because of how much I love the game.
Lmaooo
lol almost got me there
That does sound frustrating though
Yeah it’s a different level of frustration watching my base get ransacked and not being able to do anything. ATP I’m gonna enable Dev commands and turn on god mode cause what else do they want me to do
Yeaahhh seems like the best course of action tbh, I’m sorry dude
All good I guess
are there online servers playing the latest public test?
I thought you didnt get raids until you beat the boss, for example personally I never got a mistland raid myself at all let alone before we beat queen and we didnt start seeing seekers at night until we beat queen, unless you have player bases raids on and ur using an old character on a new world idk
I just stepped into it and when I died I spawned home and it say “they sought you out” and boom 2 seekers just fuck me ☠️
Either way I'm 99.99% sure you cannot get a raid from a biome unless you defeated its boss
arent there a setting that enables player progression based raids
Yes as I mentioned
I get that im just saying there must be a reason because you shouldn't have had the raid yet at all
I figured 😭 that’s why I’m so confused right now 😅 I’m starting to think I logged this character on one of my established worlds and never fully realized it. That’s the only explanation I can think of
That’s why I was so dumbfounded cause I never had this happen before until tonight.
I hope that’s the case cause shit my world is kinda stuck unless I go god mode now
Yeah must be
Probably just gonna make a new character if raids are tied to character progression
Yeah that’s probably what I’m gonna do 😩 RIP Ragnar
They sought you out event comes before Queen.
Oof
That’s silly then cause how am I supposed to fight them off 😭
its a rare one, new step in difficulty. Appears after Yagluth
Plains gear feels like I’m wearing troll hide in the mistlands
LOL story of my life ☠️☠️☠️
yep, u went in new area, new chance of event. Bam!
Well shit
Makes me not want to use god mode if this is how it is
Cause if other players got through it then I can to but I never had that happen on other play through
u can get seekers with field stuff. Starred ones maybe hard, or multiples.
bugs are everywhere from here on.
What event are we discussing?
got balistaes targeting seekers all over, cause they mosquito fly amok
When i have a seed, is everything the same including where berry bushes spawn the same, or is it just where different biomes and bosses spawn
I'm still technically on 1st playthru with my brother on a shared world and we havnt basically refused to make a base outside the meadows lmfao
We have a plains and mistlands farm but otherwise nope sir ee, only time you deal with any difficult mob is a raid
Still waiting for a gjall raid
hi, having hard preset mode in valheim server, do the mobs hit harder ? I can't parry lox with full black metal armor and black metal shield. I used to parry them a couple years ago
I'm playing PTB but I think I found an ... idle bug?
Paused my game and switched windows for several minutes to do some other stuff. When I came back, I can hear the looping sound of a portal and background noises but Windows pops up the "valheim.exe is not responding" window. If I use resmon and Analyze Wait chain, I have one thread waiting on another.
Looking at the log, the last entry I see is 60+ minutes ago:
[Info : Unity Log] 08/29/2025 20:06:04: Unloading unused assets
I don't recall how long I was alt-tabbed away.
It's not the wrong channel - I'm playing PTB but am entirely unsure whether it's a PTB bug.
If I were reporting a bug with PTB-specific content, then it would be the wrong channel
They sure do
OK, its official, my wife and I are both NOT a fan of the Ashlands. This is going to be nothing but a long, tedious, ugly, slog.
i just built my first house on my new playthrough and i have no clue what each room should be XDD
I don't even do rooms, I just do one big open area, and hope everything fits.
lol
I've done longhouse and circular with just big open space to put everything in. I was experiencing with a 2nd floor on the longhouse design. If that counts as rooms
I have done two floors before, but I now know how big I have to make it for everything to fit up until Mistlands. Then I just do a separate building for those tables.
@fossil delta tends to look too boxy when done like that
The only trouble I have is trying to fit two beds in for future coop plans
Its too long to be boxy, but even if it did, I wouldn't care. I no longer build to make it pretty, just serviceable.
I can't fathom that in a game with such building customization
I quite caring at around 3,000 hours. I am over 4,600 now.
My builds are well done, not pretty. Thats all I care about now.
the combat is interesting enough for 4600 hours?
Considering my goal is to never die, I guess it has been. I've only died 10 times this play through, and I am in Ashlands now.
What difficulty
Weeeeeak
😄 😄 😄
i thought only 1 serpent could spawn each night???? i have 2
there can be multiple
Depending on your sailing, you can get 3 or 4 spawns.
Just depends on RNG and how fast you kill each one.
Sailing at full speed through a wide swath of ocean will often get me 3-4
same
Full speed? I'd never see some of them, with how far behind they can spawn. I go at base speed just to make sure I do see what spawns.
i think my boat can only take 1 more hit hopefully no more
Full speed covers more ocean squares
Karve?
I know, but I think its more important to be sure I see the spawns.
Sure sounds like a Karve.
That new boat sure does take a beating in the Ashlands.
Between the spires, the harpy and the serpents, got close to sinking a couple of times. Good thing its easy to put a work bench on those spires.
That said, my wife and I are not liking the Ashlands one bit.
Jeez 2 star draugrs are such a nightmare
Wiped out our whole squad 🥲 glad we had a portal near by
anyone find a fix for the discord party problem while playing?
I used to hate the ashlands, but after being there for a while I got used to it and found out how to handle the onslaught better. It is not my favorite biome but it is not as bad as it felt when it first came out. 😄
Ive heard they had to decrease mob spawns in ashlands a long time ago to make it more enjoyable
hello everyone
They did.
Part of the problem was how the noise was too large, thus attracting monsters from very far away.
Another part of the problem was that the burning logs were also attracting monsters from a large area.
Both made it quite hard to get a foothold in the Ashlands and once you had, you often had to fight for quite some time before you were able to spawn proof an area so you could have some rest.
People compared it to D-day's Omaha beach, but personally I think the landing at the Tarawa Atol was more appropriate.
Either way, it was a massacre. In both ways of speaking.
Yeah sounds like a huge pain, even now on a world with 3 of us it took a lot of fighting in order to set up portals on the different islands
In a way it was fun too.
All players entering the Ashlands PTB were told to "prepare for war".
And a lot - myself included - underestimated that. So a lot were butchered.
Another factor that came into play - and still does - is where you land.
Some locations are absolutely terrible with Volture spawns, Chared spawn stones and a Morgen spawn point near it.
Other locations almost feel like you moved from Mistlands back into the plains; that "few" spawns you encounter.
My personal favorite landing area is close to an active Dvergr outpost. It gives you that little bit of extra help that may help you to settle down and once they're killed by the monsters you got some nice free resources available, helping you a lot to kickstart your journey.
The only disadvantage of that; you can't build a workbench and portal there until they and their ward are gone.
Yea we end up landing by lots of spawned each time
When the deep north comes out do I have to make a new world ? I haven’t gone to the north of the map yet
Then you should be able to use the current one 🙂
You don't need as long you leave the area mostly unexplored.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dverger from sea though and the longer you spend sailing the more damage the maw does
And it’s Ashlands so a minute later another spawns
I don’t feel the game gives you the tools to make a start there especially single player.
If you could get a prespawned portal in an empty fortress when you beat the queen or something it wouldn’t be such a clusterfuck
pre spawned portal in a empty fortress when you kill the queen?
this doesn't make any kind of sence in my head when I read it. so please elaborate 😄
what would be the point in the Drakkar ship then?
and the fortress isn't spawned in until you go near that area
what would happend if that portal is destroyed?
There wouldn’t much point in the drakkar no
Key is to not rush the shore. You approach carefully, the ship is sturdy enough to survive various vulture and serpent attacks while scouting the shores for an area with few spawners. Once you have a spot decided you can make a waystation on a rock offshore, enough to get a workbench and a portal up. Lastly - before actually approaching the shore it is effective to rain down arrows at any spawners from out of spawn range until there are none active in the vicinity, only then you beach the ship and start the fight to establish a bridgehead. I simply raised a platform right on the beach, set up a wb and a stonecutter and quickly got a portal built - under a stone floor so it won't burn. Once you have a protected portal you can start looking outwards.
I was riffing and it’s not a point I want to debate about. If I do someone will clap back then people will slap it with the THIS react, I don’t need that in my life.
That is the play yes
But self discovery goes out of the window, you have to look it up how to do it before you go, you’d need superhuman patience
To work it out in a bubble
I did not look up anything before I got there first, and yes I got killed on the first attempt but I also got killed on the first attempt and Swamp, Mountain, Plains, Mistlands. Second attempt I knew better what to do and It worked fine. It is different and difficult but hey that is what I am here fore..If it was easy all the way it would be so much fun for me 😄
I didn't look it up, but the whole approach in a thunderstorm through a rocky labyrinth with that music made me expect nothing but a very hostile welcome, so I scouted the shores a good while before approaching. Turns out I picked an awful spot, it is just a narrow strip of land beween the sea and a giant lava lake, so mobs are constantly funneled towards my little fob, while there were not a single fortress within a day's run from the spot. Took me weeks to find my first fortress...
Same here, first time in ashlands was when PTB started, no way to look up stuff about it, just go to ashlands, land, fight, establish foothold, fight, explore.
one issue was the returning players for ashlands, who left the mistlands as gods and just killed everything. forgot they where underdogs in new biomes 😄
I did avoid spoilers to the best of my abilities because I wanted to see for myself and learn for myself and it was hell at first ... but after I learned the patterns and all of that... it is not hell anymore.
the Ashlands mobs are quite slow to move...they can be avoided easily... just walk away
they are not wolves (which are a menace and even after 3600+ h I am very cautious in the mountains) 😄
as one should be very of wolves
wolves are the mobs that got me unalived most in all my playthroughs... but I never once complained... the game is what it is and if anyone should find it to hard - there is settings in the world modifiers to make it to your liking 😄
Safer cart storage?
that is also true
I remember finding mini boss for frost mountains 1st day we got into frost mountains and we were not ready and didnt know what we stumbled upon until we died
Ugh. Started a no-portals run about a week ago and decided to explore for a "perfect" spot for my permabase. So I just repaired a prespawned shack right next to the spawn stones and started exploring. 70 game days later I have ranged far and wide and started incursions into the swamp, but I'm still living in that puny little hut, and no spot found in all my travels... And the further I progress the less inclined I feel to actually move house, knowing it's going to be a pretty painful process without portals...
nothing wrong with living in a puny hut as long as you got a big enough puny hut to fit all you want to fit 😄
Never settle, its always worth taking the time to have a proper base in a good spot
I usually build about 3 bases per run... one starter hut somewhere most often a taken over ruin. then a forest base on an island preferably and then one big and fancy base in the plains, next to mistlands (so I can farm all the veggies in one base)... Right now I am thinking I might want to have a base in the Mistlands up north-ish... because that will be the final direction to go... we will see what the DEVs cook up for us 😄 maybe I will prefer Endgame base in the arctic after we get to play that
I found a gorgeous place on another world - a tall small island in a canyon with rivers on both sides - but I already had like three castles on that world so never built there. I was hoping to find a similar spot in this new run but I have been unable to find one. Or I'm blind looking for something like that so I miss other good spots... Might use that previous seed for the fresh run once 1.0 drops.
for now I am waiting patiently for the new update to come out of the PTB it is not so easy to avoid spoilers this time... it is all over youtube... but I will wait until the bugs are squashed and all is polished up 😄
We do meadows bases and just have farms where we need them
We have 2 now that we got to ashlands but we are turning old base into a portal base now that we have new and bigger one
I usually use the older bases for storage of surplus ressources I do not need in my main base 😄 they are usually overflowing with stuff. Can not help it I am a hoarder 😄
We have a massive loft in new base that could hold like 100 bm chests if we wanted idek how many irons we could fit if needed too so we are not worried about storage at all
Our 1st base was a wood house that we torn down to make stone castle in its place then we moved to a new location and built black marble/flametal/ashwood castle so old stone castle is being turned into portal base and farm area and we have a farm in plains and one in mistlands, but we dont set up any type of home items on those farms so raids cannot spawn in on our farms and ruin them, we do meadows bases so raids are only time we need to worry about pesky mobs that can actually do any dmg
Stone castle has like 10 2* wolves running about as well
I'm usually sticking to a single base and a few outposts.
My first "base" is usually an old building close to the sacrificial stones, which later will have the portal to those stones for trophy drop off.
The main base is usually located at an island, Black Forest or plains preferred with a small outpost near the swamps for collecting ooze, blood bags and coal (occasionally surtling cores up to a certain point as well).
Another outpost is made at the plains to farm Barley / Flax, a third in the Mistlands to farm the crops there and a small outpost - later moved to a fortress - in the Ashlands.
I'm one of those players who'd like to keep things centralized and use a portal hub to travel all over the world.
is building a base in the plains a pain with the deathsqueetoes? or can I stop them from spawning in
Yeah I like being organized
You can stop them from spawning by placing several player build structures. Campfires are the easiest, but workbenches or torches do well too.
The trick is to place something to prevent the spawning, then walk about 9 meters to one side, build the next thing and so on.
The advantage of workbenches is that you get the "construction circle", which is a very good indication where to build the next workbench.
Yeah but even then if u somehow catch agro from one that spawns outside ur base it can just fly on in
Its all circumstance but for most part you can easily stop mobs spawning in ur base using the workbench method
Only reason we do meadows bases is less likely to deal with difficult mobs when just running around even if foraging bushes outside the base, we dont mind being close to black forests or swamps but typically plains and mistlands just bring in annoying mobs and fulings can do a lot of dmg to ur walls and structures and it can be annoying repairing stuff all the time
I usually switch to a main base by the time I got access to the swamp or are close to fight the Elder.
The reason for that is that I got the best possible gear to deal with the monsters in one biome and the top gear for the one I'm currently in.
It also means I got access to the Karve, making exploration for a good island a lot easier.
I've done a search for a nice Plains island once after having defeated Eikthyr and I will leave it to that single attempt.
The trip in a raft over the ocean took me 3 attempts, the landing at an island took me two attempts and a near death experience the third time.
In the end it was worth it, but the trill was a bit too much for this old dude.
#screenshots message @shy marlin Do I see Jotun Pain?

spreading those poison around to make sure infested plants don't grow
just like using Roundup
Well, at least leave it when you eventually venture to Deep North.
if the run makes it there
but.. erm..
no-hit?
👀
so hardcore version of no-food run?
Scales playing as Hervor?
in some ways it's harder in other ways it's easier
stamina food is ok I guess?
No*hit.
I feel... Mislead.
