It's a set with good amount of armor rate and no movement speed penalty, bronze armor set has only +2 armor per piece (total +6) at same quality level but give you movement speed penalty (-5% from chest and legs pieces, helmet doesn't slow down).

You'll get better at it. Some times you find a lot in a relatively small area, other times you have to go around a lot. Which is fine, you need plenty of other mats from the forest. Have you found seeds yet?

They enable much better foods.

Haha there ya go 👍 it can be very nice to do a traditional viking style build with a fire in the middle of the living space, that way the raised middle bit of the roof isn't off center

Yeah, you can just put a simple roof piece over it, leaving it open in all other directions, or do real chimneys, etc...

I just leave it open at each end of my roof, the smoke works its way out well enough.

More rapid way to increase block is summoning few Elders and get them in place they can only shoot you with the ranged attack and using Serpent shield.

i imagine the elder's ranged attack is better if nearly every projectile manages to hit a tree
but that's much harder to aim than a melee attack with a huge hitbox like those of an abomination

Well we used them (we summoned 2 or 3 at once, dont remember exactly) to mainly knock down loads of trees to the ground by staying far enough to trigger the ranged attack consistently, the trees themselves also break down quite well when dropping on one another, and then we quickly killed elders and went to town with axes 🙂

Sorry to miss so much of the conversation, I was chatting with one of my daughters. Anyways, I have probably spent close to 1,000 hours planting in Valheim by now, so I am pretty good at being "efficient". Still, its monotonous. So its really nice that my wife stepped up and pretty much took over this play through. She probably sensed my... "reluctance" to do the farming, yet again. Still, when I do start using mods, the farming mods will be the first ones I look at.

to be fair, we only ever see that one branch that has yet to make any movements relative to valheim in-game so it's fair to assume that branch is a part of what was severed from yggdrasil. as far as i remember only a single runestone implies that that branch is still connected to the tree, and it's a black forest runestone so you're very unlikely to ever run into it on a normal playthrough.

Debatable point, root is less armor value with higher movement speed plus poison resist from the mask and peirce resistance from the chest and then with all 3 pieces improved archery. Iron on the other hand is slow with a higher armor rating. Root however is obtained from Abominations and if you are struggling with inital spawns you might struggle with them.

Couldn't see anything and died again...I think my laptop is not strong enough for it as is was stuttering a lot with just 4 waariors on my tail...and then I died...next try with my padded armor and frostner I guess...running out of armor and weapons...

Yeah, I am almost 60, my wife is 55, add vision issues for me. I am also one of those people with over 4,000 hours, though. 😄 Tower shields are much easier to use than parrying everything. I've never been a fan of dodge rolling, for reasons not related to my age. My wife is what I call a "Bezerker". She doesn't use shields, or roll. Just pure mayhem. She dies far less than I thought she would. 2 to 3 times for every time I die, and I do not die often. She does better than nearly anyone I have ever played with on servers. I've actually started fighting like she does at times. I am not so worried about the combat update, as long as the main thing is addressing the different height on the terrain issue. I doubt they will have us relearn everything, but I suppose that is a possibility. We have compensated for most of our issues, which includes both of us being very disabled Veterans, but some of that was getting better systems, a bigger monitor, addressing room lighting as well.

We still play on default. Except this time we did switch to allowing ores through portals early in the swamps.

I'm 64, 2600+ hours. I use normal settings, BUT, minimal death penalty (minimize skill drain) and I do use mods. Mostly QoL ones, EpicLoot is the one for absolute silliness. Yes, allowing ores through portals. (saves so much time vs slogging through the swamps with iron, or sliding down the mountains with silver.

Current game I'm trying the 1.5 on loot amt. Many things you get double (rounding up I suppose) Nice for dragon eggs, and the wee things from the dwarven. Especially those for sap collecting.)

I go for heavy armor and the smaller shields for the parry. I can't do the roll thing worth a damn. In MP I do tend to be the stoopid tanky type. (except WoW. Warlock. Tanky or ranged. )

I tried the lowest graphics settings but I guess that caused the total blackness on my second landing.. Laptop is darn hot when going to the Ashlands.. Maybe it's literally going there 😉

Yeah, I don't use mods. I will. I just want to wait until they are done making Valheim, and play it as pure Vanilla. I know me, if I start using them now, I'll never go back to just Vanilla. 😄 So I'll wait. Most of what I do is because of my Zero Death runs. Even at my age, I've still made it to the Queen without dying. That was a little over a year ago, and I think I still play that well. When I play solo. I've never done one playing with someone else.

Valheim? They have optimized the crap out of it all along. There are videos on youtube I found helpful for optimizing my own settings, though. My favorite is probably still pinned in the Help channel.
