I'm going to offer a slightly different suggestion which probably won't be what you do but it's an idea - cook it and then make Deer stews to level up your cooking skill as much as possible, then either obliterate it afterwards (much less coal though) or store it as food to use while you go through older biomes.

Black forest is well made biome but the copper mining can be chore due to having the weakest pickaxe. Once you get bronze you can make better pick.
Although muddy scrap piles are easier to mine and are more plentiful usually.

With the best HHS food setup and fully upgraded blackmetal shield should be enough for parrying the attacks of starred soldiers. But if you have better shield then it's easier.
You can jump attack on the back after parry to deal more damage at the butt. Or wait until it does the double slam attack and move back and hit the butt.

Soldiers normally deal bit less damage per hit than normal seekers, so parrying a 2 star soldier is bit easier than 2 star seeker.

It's balanced around solo, coop play increases the HP by 40% and damage 5% of all mobs per player on same area.

You should have access to either troll or bronze, potentially root if you're feeling adventurous. If you have a big black forest, troll armor is pretty easy to get. You don't even need the cape for it to be good.

Cauldron should've unlocked when you got tin. Place that down over a fire and you'll get access to better foods.

You're probably also missing some ingredients. Find the white flowers in black forest for carrots and the rare yellow flowers in the swamp for turnips. Grow those with the cultivator (bronze + core wood tool)

Once you get those, you should unlock a cauldron upgrade too

Teleporting back to my decked out stone fortress with like 100 wolves on patrol outside was a slideshow. Had to close and reopen the game to do more than stand still.

I increased the rate cause I love the game but I've put in enough hours that the slow grindy parts have become significantly less appealing than they previously were. Before they were 'whatever' chores. Now they're an unfun use of my time when I could be actually exploring and enjoying the game.

Leveling isn't that necessary usually, but in case of blood magic it makes some significant difference.
It makes your summons deal more damage and also your shield bubble stronger.

You can see from your protection staff how much damage it will block before breaking, it's based on the current skill level.

Base is 200 + 5 per level. Maximum is 700 when the skill level is 100.
