It is not an "I win" weapon by any means, but it has its strengths. It hits hard, has good stagger values, and spirit damage makes it strong even in Ashlands if I understand right
I got a kid due next month and I want to introduce her to Valheim in 5 years.
I was thinking I wish there was a child avatar mod or something.
Boils down to your fighting style, more than anything. If you like to hit hard with a twohander and use movement, dodging and the odd parry to make up for not having a shield, then you'll probably like it.
Remember for some reason 2H weapons slow you down more than sword'n board (unless you go tower shield, nothing is slower than that..)
Iβll have to learn to dodge
What did you do for Eikthyr?
The Joseph Joestar technique
So I'm gearing up for my first expedition to Ashlands, I'm planning to bring the demolisher, mistwalker & shield, and bow. If i understand right most mobs there are pierce resistant, so the Himminafl won't be of much use, no?
HIII i am new in valheim and i need help but i spΓk spanish anyone speak spanish???
Many people. But if you're looking for a group, #1024264966712340510
Funny thing about that, me and my brother were nearing the Queen's lair in Mistlands - fairly long into the game - when we aggroed the guardians there which included a two-star seeker with a cohort of one-star buddies. And they homed in on my poor brother who sensibly popped Bonemass power right away, but as they started bullying him he quickly got in trouble and I yelled at him to "Dodge, goddammit dodge - don't just stand there and take it!" and then after he died he asked me "what do you mean dodge?!?"
He had made it to Mistlands without ever using dodge once. My brother, the master of I-block-with-my-face. Explains why all his skills were below 10 at that point, too..
Iβve never used dodge because it always felt hard to use properly because of stamina
I use it mostly when I've aggroed more than I can handle at one time. Dodge away a couple of times and then run to create some distance and swap to a weapon better suited for multiple enemies.
I'm sure there are better strategies, I am a pretty mediocre fighter in this game
I don't know where you are starting from, but pro tip:
Use the Karve or Longboat to sail as far down South as possible; then settle at a nearby island, get a portal there, go back to your base to get the crafting materials for the Drakar and build it there.
Saves you a very long and slow "ride" to the Ashlands.
That's exactly what I did for my first time into the ashlands.
I did this yesterday. Started with the Drakkar but it being slower to manouver than a 300-meter oil tanker made me just beach it, break it down and go back home to get my karve instead. Sailed as far south as I could and found a nice Mistlands rock out in the Ocean where I built an FOB tower. Now I'm ready to set off again π
I didn't know rolling made me invincible until swamps
Jumping is better than rolling when possible, and it costs less stamina
That it had invincibility frames was something I learned on here, I just thought it was actual dodging - if you got out of the way of the enemy's attack, success, if not you got hit anyway. I had no idea it actually makes you invulnerable* for a couple of frames.
*) Invulnerable from regular attacks that is, AoE effects like Bonemass's vomit still applies, doesn't it?
Some attacks aren't dodgable but that doesn't include all aoes.
Ok. Makes sense that you can't "dodge" a poison cloud
But you can dodge Yagluth's AoE
The only melee attack that isn't dodgable is a Gjall's shake
That's like an actual death ray or missiles right? Makes sense too
I never got close enough to a gjall to know they had a melee attack
It's to stop you from standing on them, the knockback is very high (150)
Ah right, hop on top and nick away with a pickaxe while out of reach for its fireballs. Clever, I understand why that shake is there.
Why would you guys use the Karve instead of the longboat? I never got far enough to get the longboat, I was under the impression that it was a straight upgrade.
Anyway, is the Himminafle of any use in Ashlands, or should I just leave it home?
It is bigger and a little more awkward to steer, so I prefer the karve when exploring since it is much more agile.
When I need cargo space, I pick the longship, but otherwise it's the karve all the way.
I always use a longship when it's available
Now that Iβm out of the swamp, I might limit myself to only two handed weapons for the funsies
Also, losing a karve is not that big of a deal, while a longship requires ancient bark and iron nails
I think if youβre solo, just Karve
The circle of fire that he leaves on the ground for a few seconds, very similar to bonemass' poison AoE, is dodgable.
If I had to guess, this one is dodgable because the separate AOE used for initial impact is also dodgable. So if it wasn't, you would still take some damage when dodging the initial AoE.
It is awesome, especially when sailing with a group of friends. I just wish we could fit shields along the sides
Karve is a nice ship for exploration, a longship is a great ship for hauling larger amounts of goodies.
Drakar is a good ship to move animals.
Aright, enough procrastination - now it is time. Wish me luck! #screenshots message
are there any other quality 4 fish besides the perch?
All fish have quality between 1-5. The most common is 1 and the rarest is 5.
The quality of them also increases their size.
I've never seen a 5 and I only have found a perch at 4. I do have 7 pikes at this point that are Q3, just unlucky I guess
nvm I also have a pike 4, thing would make ahab jelly
Gods below, forcing us to use the least agile ship in the game to navigate a rocky sea maze, I think Irongate hates us. It is epic a f, but gods I'm having to backpaddle a lot...
Oh really? My most recent Ashlands sailing experience was extremely easy- only had like a few pillars π
During the PTB, it was way rockier! But yeah, itβs an awesome experience though
Now I'm timed out on the screenshots channel, but I'd hesitate to say I have "a few" pillars π
You don't have a fist full of pillars, but a few pillars more?
Clint would've been sooooo proud of you!
What's your guy's favorite weapon type? I'm entering the Iron age and want to try something new. I used the Mace mainly up until now. Doesn't have to be the absolute best in the game but something that's at least pretty good
swooords, not words!
I'm a swords guy. Always going with swords unless the fight I'm up against forces me to something else
And there's not that many battles that can't be fought with a slightly unsuitable weapon, so...SWORDS!
no effect? I need a bigger sword
Dangit, now I am getting near the shore and night is falling. Suppose it is better to wait offshore until dawn?
Entering a new biome at night can't end well
Gonna do that anyway, don't want to be flattened by some two star monstrosity and be forced to do this gauntlet all over again..
pros of going in at night: it will be daytime for your corpse recovery
π
can you catch a fish with raise ground
Is it too much to ask for boats to be material things for mob drops? Getting sad to see vulture pieces fall into the sea through the deck.
Spotted a spawner on the shore and could snipe it from where I'm floating, that felt good!
Good luck! πͺ
I never fought bonemass and I'm doing an axe/atgeir playthrough.
Do I HAVE to use a mace against him or am I fine?
It will take considerably longer
Axe deals half damage to him while mace deals 1.5x damage
You may have to repair your weapon
However itβs a good opportunity to get a few weapon skill levels in
Mid-fight? Fuckin yikes.
I usually fight moder with frostner even though itβs not optimal
You can place a portal on top of the skull and it will be safe from his attacks, will make mid fight repairing easier and faster
So you HAVE to use mace, or it's a nigh impossible fight? Even with a bow or smth? That's a bit of a shame, but it is what it is.
I don't use portals, I'd rather not have to repair mid-fight either, seems awkward and anti-climactic
Iβve not done the exact calculations, Iβve fought him with a bow multiple times before to level up bow skill and Iβm pretty sure i had to go repair the weapon but itβs been a good while
I recommend bringing a backup axe/atgeir
Sounds good. I'll look further into it when I'm ready to fight him, but I'm noting this down
Thanks for the help! ππͺ
oh my, I just found a land accessible fishing spot for giant herring.
You don't have to use the mace, but if you don't fights with other weapons will last a lot longer.
So the choice is to use the mace or having to repair or swap weapons mid fight.
You can still abandon the mace after that fight, if you like.
"Have to"
I think what I was trying to ask is if wether the mace is the easy mode of the fight, or simply the only way to beat him for a casual player not trying to do any challenge run or wtv.
Idk if that makes sense?
Like ik it's his weakness, but I was wondering if it's reasonably doable with other weapons, that's all.
It is doable, you just need to put in more effort to stay alive while taking longer to kill him
Amazing, thank you! π
Bonemass is spongy, but pretty straightforward. I have never failed so I might be biased due to overprepping and having it easier than most. However, he has two basic attacks one slow melee that can be blocked or dodged, and his poison puke that you can either endure (with poison resist meads and heals when health gets low anyway) or avoid by running away when he vomits. Then he spawns adds, but they are regular swamp mobs and you should easily do away with them.
Just don't start the fight when night is about to fall, or you'll have mobs coming in to join the fray from all around
I'm usually cheesing the fight by standing on top of the skull or a nearby tomb and using the mace, sledge or Stagbreaker on him.
And it's one of those because I know he's weak to blunt, so those three will kill him the quickest.
I'm not in the mood to give myself all kind of rules to make a fight harder. I want that boss down, I want him down fast and I want him down without being killed by him or his adds myself.
I prep a lot as well, and I upgrade gear as much as possible, even though it's not necessary, I like to take my time.
Ik about nightfall and I had assumed he would have a poison attack, good to know!
Thanks again for the tips.
I have never tried fighting him with a bow, he resists piercing so it would probably take forever.
I enjoy the challenge of a boss, not an extreme challenge, either, but a reasonable one, and I dislike cheesing. Just my own playstyle, yours is perfectly cool, too! π
No Atgeirs then. Or I'll save it for the adds
Gona AXE bonemass a question
Yay, got a bridgehead established in Ashlands - ||shield generator and portal up, now I just need to get some materials in to fortify it! Welcome committΓ©e wasn't too bothersome, found three spawning pillars I managed to take out from a distance. Since then only a few mobs at a time have come at me.||
Spoilerized that one, just realised, sorry
Derleth, do you speak french by chance?
Sadly no, it's on my list of "languages-I'd-like-to-know"
I prefer cheesing after having played a game where the boss summoned minions, which were able to summon minions, which were able to summon minions.
At some point all I did was running around killing what I shouldn't kill because it distracted me from the boss itself.
At some point I learned about a cheese to kill that boss in about 10 seconds; which was long before he would summon his minions (which started at 25% HP loss on him, I think).
It was also the moment I decided that if I could make a fight shorter by cheesing it, I would do so. Simply because the idea of a boss fight becoming a "let's throw a 1,000 minions at the player to make the fight harder" isn't my idea of a boss fight.
I'm there to fight a boss, not the minions and if that means I need to use a method some call a cheesing or even a cheat, so be it.
Haha that's just the English spelling with an accent that shouldn't have been there
If you have any spare time, start learning right away! It can take years, you just gotta keep doing it until it's second nature, and you'll still be learning more when you're fluent. (I think we should take this to #general tho, this is a bit of a tangent, ahah)
Sounds fair enough to me, man
Also, there's a bit of a muddled line between "cheese" and "strategy". To me "cheese" is abusing mechanics to win a fight in obviously unintended ways. Bonking Bonemass out of reach might fall into that category, I don't know. But my very recent victory over the queen involved me running into cover behind some indestructible pillars to take out adds, then jump out and make quick guerilla attacks and then rush back to safety before she could wreck me. I don't think that's cheesing, but some might think it is.
To me that's just making use of the environment rather than blocking with my face..
As long as we have fun, it's a non competitive PvE game, I think all playstyles are valid, even straight up cheating. I remember having the most fun in GTA cheating the hell out of it.
Yeah, same
Aye, remember playing Carmageddon back in the 90's and without cheats it was absolutely dreadful, but with invulnerability on it was one of the most fun games I ever played..
My brother played that a bit, I remember him telling me about it
One of the things I've been using is digging a big hole out under the Elder's altar.
When you get down the center, the heat of the fire will give you a small Rested Bonus. It isn't much as it's just the fire and the roof - so my guess it's just the 5 points - but it certainly helps with the stamina and health regen. And especially when you have to do that fight and a storm or rain starts.
I've seen people popping down campfires with the "no build cost" on when going to fight the Elder. Their reasoning: the Elder is vulnerable to fire, so if I make sure he's surrounded by fire, his movement may kill himself.
The idea behind it is good. But using a game modifier for that so you won't have to bring all that stone and wood with you, just to make the fight easier is something I consider close to cheating.
Because at that point you won't fight the boss, but let the game mechanics fight the boss.
Yet, I know there are players who think that what I prefer to do is similar. After all, I'm using the game's design to have fire being in a column or sphere and thus also being under a structure to my advantage.
The line between cheating and cheesing is very thin and what one considers as cheesing may be cheating to the other. And most likely always a thing that will be discussed.
Gods, cooked bonemaw meat being stronger than any of my elaborately cooked meals π
Yes but it weighs 10 pounds per item
A beefy meal!
If you look at the model, it makes sense that serpent/bonemaw meat weighs that much
Holy shit
Tried the Battleaxe, I didnβt like it, so Iβm going with my trusty Frostner
hmmm, seems frost arrows still kick ass here
Need to go get more drake glands then..
Doubt that'll be a problem now you got up to Ashlands.
Frost arrows are the strongest arrow in the game
Just a little diversion. I'll find a silver vein and go to town, that usually makes them come to me instead of the other way around
It looked like this all the way.. #screenshots message
anyone looking for a group to play with on a modded server? Please pm me!
You can look through #1024264966712340510 and/or make a post in there π
They have a server post, but it's not my server, thought that was only for the server admin to bump?
Is there a way to see how many dies you have died?
open the chat box in game, type /stats and use [Pg Up] or [Pg Dn] to scroll to the right line
Troll fishing trip:
- 40 bait used;
- 15 tier 1
- 7 tier 2;
- 2 tier 3 fishes.
Plus 4 copper and 5 troll hides, as well as two skill points.
Not bad when starting at fishing lvl 5, I think.
Hats off to you for fishing
Fishing hat off? π
The only reason I went fishing for them is because of the Troll potion as it will be useful when I'm going to continue my building again.
ben playing solo for awhile kinda getting to me anyone down to help me explore ashlands maybe set up boss fight at some point add if down to help
@young stump #screenshots message yes but the model 3D of Thor is lowpoly and dont have textures??
Is it still possible to cheese the last boss?
yup
It's possible to cheese every boss.
did the mistwalker ever do spirit damage?
It still does
thanks
This is of course... a correct statement haha, you can do if you really want to, some are easier to cheese than others.
-
it is
-
moder doesn't have anything to do with that Easter egg
I wonder why the low poly Thor model has been the talks of the past few weeks π€
like does it matter when it's like a tiny dot almost in the sky?
She does, Thor starts to appear only after you defeat her π
Nothing quite so exciting as being hunted while mining silver π
My friend and I had a max dash to shelter while getting chased by so many fluffy boys π€£
there's a thor model? clearly i dont spend enough thunderstorms outside lol
I had so much fun killing Bonemass this run
I sat on Bonemassβs head and smacked him with stagbreaker until it broke π€
My friend smacked him with a sword while I did π
Ay
who wanna play valheim?
are padded armors worth it? or do I just wait for carapace?
Worth is subjective to the individual.
Valid.
will invest on padded helm and pants
just going with full root for a while now because I was investing heavily on bows but going towards the mists while still using it makes me extremely vulnerable due to not being able to do my sneak shots that often
you can break the bed you used as a respawn point on that other island, die again, and respawn on the main island
sure it'll chunk your skills a bit but hopefully you get to building another boat to get to your belongings
Hey guys, I've just started playing Valheim a week ago and I'm looking for a mate to play with. I know a bit about the game from YouTube videos β just saying so you can trust me and not think poorly of meπ. I hope you understand me in my case, sooo I'll be waiting for someone. I will be exploring new things in the game and will be patient when it comes to progressπΆβπ«οΈ
#1024264966712340510 might help you find someone π
Well TIL..
I have the John Wick series playing over here.
Guides Rianu Meeves over to the movies being played
Any building tips?
Start with a stable foundation
i feel the game deliberately has "wind goes against you" because of the dragon power...
Each day has the wind direction and weather pre-determined π
the game knows where i would go for an infinite amount of days and predetermines against me
prove me wrong π
I have seen a lot of good building videos but I canβt recall seeing any build a horse shoe shaped dock for boats has anyone seen any videos of this? So I can get a visual of seeing it being built?
I personally did not
I only have a dock that has the same hull shape as the longship
only the front part
Yeah, usually i just do a straight line for a pier or multiple of them side by side paralel to each other
at this point this is my best friend π
I put a example the best I could draw in #building-screenshots
oh, embed links not working in here?
Nope, its to prevent spam π you can post screenshots and such in apropriate channels tho
meh
Meh?
Meh
Meh!
Ayo, I just beat the elder and explored an entire swamp biome with no luck, it only had 1 crypt and I couldn't get in because it was underwater.
This common/normal?
Swamps with 1 crypt is common.
Does anyone know when it's worth waiting for an update?
Granted it was a small one and I had no expectations, but the crypt being underwater was a bit disappointing.
Are a lot of them inaccessible like that, or was that just a wierd occurence on my map?
If you mean Deep North and you are already itching to play then no, we will still have to wait quite some time for it
Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about, I just hope that the update will be ready in the summer.
Oh almost certainly no
It's a pity, but it's still worth hoping for
If you had to open an iron gate / door, it's the crypts you need to look for to get iron.
There's always water in them and occasionally you may have to swim through a small hallway as well.
And that water is there because it's a sunken crypt.
If it didn't have an iron door / gate at the entrance it wasn't a sunken crypt.
No, no, I've been to the swamps in an earlier game, I know, it was a sunken crypt, but only the tip of it was out of water. I couldn't access the door at all.
I'm gonna assume this is a one off, and not normal in this case. Just bad luck from procedural generation.
It is on the edge of the biome, on the coast leading to the ocean, maybe thats a factor, oh well.
That is indeed quite rare π i enountered 1 or 2 in all my time playing
Got a screenshot?
Because it could be that the PoI is placed in a wrong way. Which means it may be something the Devs may have to look at.
Then I am both quite lucky and unlucky π€£
Ah, darn. I'm gonna head back there now and get a screenshot for yall, wish me luck.
Did it look something like this? π #screenshots message
(Just the crypt)
It stuck out a bit more than that, but yeah.
Okay, so, I'm an idiot
Or maybe not, anyways.
I thought it was a crypt, but it was a reading tablet thingy with torches. π
The torches were why I thought it was a crypt
Ah, that one would be easier to find submerged i think. π
looking for someone to a 2 player world dm if you want to play
I put them in the screenshot channel!
Classic coastal generation pulled down. Same way we can find mountain at the waters edge
Hit him and shoot him π
Keep in motion to avoid the roots, take cover behind pillar when he does his ranged attack, chop him with axe/sword, shoot with fire arrows
Run from his roots and then hide behind pillars shooting fire arrows
The roots are static, so when he spawns them just move away
Block or dodge the roots and clear if getting to be to many. Or avoid and kite out of vine reach
Bosses are friendly to all creatures except for tamed creatures.
What food and armor did you have?
clear the area of trash before you fight the boss.
Always get the best food and equipment a biome can give you before fighting its boss
if you need, build a fence around the stone arena.
Keep looting the black forest for white flowers, tbey'll give you carrot seeds, plant those, get carrots, and then better food items
Are there any Iron sources in Ashlands?
Might be a dumb question but is it safe to backup a corrupt safe file
there won't be masses of dwarfs or skeletons to break through your walls and overrun you though. lmao
it takes time and then you maybe get 1
Yes, but it takes time. That time is super useful, its a few minutes of peace while you hack away at the boss.
Putrid holes, pots in there can sometimes drop it, why?
Yeah
I forgot to bring two iron for the damn stone bench
What do you need it for π€
i wonder how you get so many enemies there anyway. they barely spawn at day if you clearl the general area out
On that note, can you get more iron after the swamps, or is it a swampfarm until endgame?
Stone portal = stone cutter = 2 iron
Swamps will stay most effective but there are other ways π
Sweet, thank you!
Yes, but you can bring the iron from home if you have materials for stone portal π
i always forget that the stone portal can connect to regular portals
just seems backward i feel like stone portal should only be able to connect to another stone portal
I want to build in stone, is all. Need some cover for the shield generator
Ah, yeah then putrid holes, but you will have to be somewhat lucky π
It has 3,85% of droping from the pots
Haven't found whatever it is that is needed for the stone portal yet.
You will eventually π
Stupid thing is I did bring mats for the stonecutter - but I used the stonecutter to build the FOB just outside Ashlands, and forgot it there.
Considering how it took me two days and one night to navigate the stone pillar labyrinth, I don't look forward to doing that again, so I'll try and find iron here..
Is ashwood fire proof?
I believe its suposed to, but last time i checked it was not
Can I beat moder with level 2 armor?
Yep, every boss is balanced to be doable with lvl1 armor from its biome π
Argh, is the windmill just not working off-screen sometimes a known issue?
Came back after a week or so and it had processed a single barley in that time, gah
Iβm planning to get a level 3 fang spear and level 2 draugr fang, and obsidian arrows will that work?
Yep, that is a pretty good gear for her π
Good
moder was more or less the worst boss for me so far
She is probably the most buggy boss sadly, but she is not really hard to beat π
How many obsidian arrows?
100+ i would say, 2 stacks should be enough even if you miss a lot and you will also be doing melee dmg
Bonemass taught us a lot about, the importance of stamina
Hi everyone, I am currently working on my board game type of style thing, no coding or anything, just pure 3D models at the moment. I was wondering if I would have the permission from the devs to use the base player 3D model? If not that is completely fine and understandable. This game of mine will not be used for any monetization, and purely for private uses between me and my friends.
I dont want to directly ping the developers as I can imagine theyre busy, but if someone from the dev team comes across this message, a reply would be appreciated.
so I have exactly five black cores. Should I prioritise an eitr refinery or a black forge?
both
I can only make one rn
forge make a weapon then deconstruct and make refinery
You can swap between them.
Like we used to do with Smelters and Kilns before Kilns became obsolete.
wait, huh? kilns are obsolete??
Turn on realistic fire.
Build wood stack.
Shoot with fire arrow or just build next to existing fire.
Kilns no, not really. But yes there are better ways of getting coal. F.e. a coal farm in the swamp
Kilns, yes. Really. Read above.
Still a good source, just not as good as everything else
Wait, when was this added? Havent played in like a year lmao
Ashlands.
Ah. Haven't been there yet on my main save
In the Ashlands wood burns. They added the option to make wood actually burn in fire like it should everywhere else.
You have to check the box.
And then you actually have to be realistic about where you put your fireplace inside your wooden house.
ahh, gotcha. I thought the conversion rate was better or something.
Side effect of this realism is Kilns now obsolete.
That would be a nice way to balance it.
Instant fire way being 1:1 but Kiln slow, time-consuming way being 1:2.
But alas, it is not so π€·ββοΈ
btw, how do chickens lay eggs? I bred my two chickens but found no egg, do certain conditions need to be met?
More like the fire method being 2:1
They need some space, like other animals
isn't that for the breeding to happen in the first place?
like, shouldn't the egg be laid once I see pink hearts?
The pink hearts indicate love point being gained, after certain ammount is aquired attempt to lay egg will be made, if there is more hens than the limit the attempt will fail.
I only have two hens. They do share the pen with a bunch of boars and wolves, but according to the wiki that shouldn't matter
Yep, but if they are too far from each other they will also not breed
yeah, in that case I probably just left the area too soon then
Man, the game is 20β¬
i dont have money on steam rn
So cheap, just go buy it yourself
the harvester set doesn't affect the xp you get towards farming ,right?i know if you're higher level you get xp slower
At higher levels you simply need more xp for the next one, you gain still the same ammount no matter your skill lvl π
this map they put the elder 3 islands over past a swamp and the plains WTF!?
got jumped by a goblin miskoto and a bull lost port boat and everything
Nobody put anything anywhere, the map is proceduraly generated
Random does tend to mean... random.
i have never been in mistlands but are fights as intense as this there? or is this modded? https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/s/BsrdBa1Ec4
nvm i think we can just change hp dmg i. diff sliders or?
No this is not modded π
Yes you can change the world modifiers
that's just poor handling of an infested mine
Just go to a different one.
If you're nervous about the upcoming content, ooze bombs will be your best friend in infested mines
how?
Walking or sailing.
Is running not an option? π
No run challenge run π
Go for it xD
Gotta finish no armor no pot run first
but how do i find a different elder location?
Find a new Vegvisr.
do you upload or stream these runs or do them just for fun?
i upload em and i'm workin on finalizing a no food perma death run π don't really like talkin about it tho idk
Scales | Streamer
π
ah yes my 11 mbps download and 5mbps upload π
2 upload speeds and no download?
listen it's finals week
Imagine not being retired... π
do you need to be within breeding range for an egg to hatch?
I GOT MY FIRST IRON, still 0 deaths so far π
no, they will hatch and grow while you are away
Oh, no, I understand the "never enough iron" memes, now. Did a spreadsheet of how much I need and holy shit.
this guy bro
iron is also really useful to make huge buildings, so you might think you need a whole lot of iron
you actually need more. How much you need? All of it
Yeah, i know about the iron wood thingies that give better support, I counted for em.
also cage walls/floors can be used to provide support
y'all, is there any reason not to hatch eggs? Egg-based foods seem kinda expensive for the stats they give tbh, especially compared to chicken.
Doing spreadsheets? pssshhhhh.
Who would ever... π
Man, I'm torn.
Do I start a new main base on this new small island close with a swamp? Or do I only leave it as a camp to farm Iron, and build up/upgrade my first base?
On one hand, I'd love to make new bases, on the other, there'd be no more reasons for me to stay on that island once I've gotten all the iron from it. But there's around 8 crypts.
stack carts on your boat for more storage space
Stack boats on your boat for more cart space for more storage space.
I'm good on the moving ressources front, I'm just wondering if building a new base there is worth it. I think it'd be better to wait until plains
also if you dont like a full cart on your boat, you can place an item in the cart, destroy it and put the box it drops in the boat, it has 4 slots
Or until I find another swamp, far away.
its a preference thing, some people move their bases around each biome, but i personally only build a base if i intend on staying in an area long term
Yeah, I'd only be there for the iron. It's a small island, and not too far from my main base.
Prolly gonna be more of a hassle than anything.
is there any difference between chestplates and helmets? Like, right now I'm on padded armour and wanna get carapace, is there a difference between getting helm and chestplate? Or, rather, as the helmet is cheaper, is there a reason not to get it first?
Helm has no movement penalty
For now π
Irongate doesn't do balance
Watch it not have a movement penalty, but a turning speed penalty to match how heavy things affect your ability to turn your head
I'd argue for realism it should have movement penalty, but devs have stated very often that realism is not a great concern haha
But no one knows what will happen to things like this in 1.0 - I do expect we'll get a few things we did not see coming!
yeah but all heavy armours have a -5% so it's not really a factor

when does xbox get the new update ?
When everyone else does.
Why would they get an update on a different day?
I would do a Iron Storage in the Crypts once you clear out the Undead and then gather enough of set iron and put them into the longboat. It's what I would do during my adventures.
Is there any xbox public servers?*
I just spent 2 hours building a balcony without realizing that everything breaks when it's not under a roof
Breaks?
Or just drops to 50% and stays there without ever breaking?
Rip modders
The kind of killing I can endorse π
New Marvel fanfic: Gor the Mod Butcher.
it only breaks if it doesn't have support π€
the weather damage from rain only leaves it at 50%
Which makes it ugly, which is objectively worse than it breaking π
Then roofing is needed
Beauty is in the eye of the mead holder.
I sometimes intentionally let rain damage happen before roofing so I can have different patterns and colors based on what I repair.
uhyea, damaged wood color fits black forest ambience so well (and swamp ofc)
Is there any gear with fire resistance in Ashlands, or do I need to expand my brewery? Going through lots of barley wine, my stores are dwindling
No there isnt. There is gear with heat resistance but that works for other things, not fire dmg.
What is doing fire damage to you in the Ashlands?
Right, thanks. Off to build a couple of fermenters then...
Ok but... what is doing fire damage to you in the Ashlands?
Twitcher - no.
Marksman - no.
Warrior - no.
Morgen - no.
Asksvin - no.
Volture - no.
Valk - no.
Valk yes π
It is exclusive to Warlocks and Lava Blobs.
Blobs can be entirely avoided due to their windup time.
So.. just Warlocks are burning through your meads?
Also not nice to spoil the enemies
Lava, fires - and I'm wearing the feather cape so not taking any risks to get that sweet weakness damage
Lava blobs have given me a few scares
Hmmm. I have them as just Slash/Pierce and Blunt/Pierce π€
Ah, third attack isn't staggering damage which is why I don't have it.
Biome is a year old for one, for 2 he stated he was burning through his stores from being there.
So in both cases - not spoils.
And from the past few days of messages its clear he just got in the ashlands π
While it should not be surprising to come across spoilers here, I really think we should try to preserve the first-feel experience for others whenever we can.
Grateful for that, I don't mind small tidbits of info in here or I wouldn't have asked in the first place - but I'm avoiding the wiki for now!
Would you pros say swapping my upgraded carapace armour for the Ask set is a good idea for early Ashlands? It would cost me 24 armour, but I don't know how big of an impact that would have, while the set bonus looks really nice. Might be easier to just not get hit using that...
Mobility is very useful in ashlands, but if you want to switch then pick either pants, chest or both, you can keep helmet since those do not have movement penalty π
With the helmet you don't get the set bonus though
I need all three to get the set bonus though? I'm fully used to using full heavy armour normally, so the only reason to swap for me would be to get the set bonus.
What I'm wondering is if the loss of 24 armour would make me too squishy, considering my dodge skills are sub par
You could upgrade it before swapping to lose less armor
Just try and see π you can always fall back to heavy armour
I need to find forge upgrades before I can upgrade anything, so yeah - gonna have to try and see. Set bonus with Himminafl seems a good match π
There's one you can make pretty early in ashlands progression. Do you have flametal and ashwood?
No metal yet, don't even know where I mine it yet. I suppose in the lava, which scares me...
One question, did you find any dvergr camps yet?
Can find it in the outposts too. Just look for those where the Dverger are been killed, destroy the ward and crates and enjoy the riches.
Only seen one dwarf, and I shot him (totally by accident, thought he was a charred with a funny hat) before I could ask him directions
Will just explore some more, there's a few ruins-looking things near where I landed, I'll head there first.
Ask Armor + Ash Cape all day unless you're a mage.
No, feather cape
Don't have any cape recipes yet, so it's still the feather cape. Which is why I came to ask about fire resistance in the first place π
Instinct has had me popping barley wine back to back since I arrived, I'll try to not use it unless I really need to. But everything looks so fiery!
You donβt need barley wine so much, but lightfoot mead will make dodging much easier
Does every moder have mistland around him?
No. It depends entirely on world gen.
No, that is unusual from what I have seen.
Surrounding the 4th biome boss with the 6th biome would be a bloody weird choice.
I have found 2 moders and both of them have mistland around them
That sounds like a brutal seed
Yeah, quite a bad luck
Are they completely surrounded? Normally you'd at least be able to approach the mountain from at least one direction that is not Mistlands.
Same as 1st and 2nd
Find the location register?
Yep, the stone with red circular symbol on it
As much I have observed they are quite literally surrounded
A vaegvisir away in the direction of the map opposite to the ones you have found already
The first one have a very narrow path through mistland
You could dash through there during day and bring mats for a portal with you, then you won't have to do it again if you collect eggs on that mountain.
is there a way to configure the game so that pressing the same hotkey as my currently active weapon, does NOT holster said item? straight up malding at the unresponsive weaponswitch that leads to button mashing that leads to holstering weapon and blocking with fist and dying. its not even a skill issue, its just a really unecessary input delay/global cooldown on weapon swap
Not an issue I have ever come across, I didn't even know hitting the hotkey a second time would sheathe the weapon. I use R to do that normally. Taking sheathe away from the hotkey could not be very disrupting, considering that. Make a suggestion about that in the suggestions channel, if there isn't one already.
its funny, i was expecting exactly this answer. its like an internet universal truth.
user1: requests solution for a problem
user2: i dont have that problem/also have that problem
thanks, thats great, but that does not help me
The problem solving would be posting a suggestion for the devs to solve the problem. As far as I know there is no way to do it currently.
I remember having that sheathing issue for a short time, but being in enough life and death scenarios have forced me to recalibrate that reflex.
its really counter intuitive because you have to actually be slow/slow down enough to match the global cooldown lockout. pressing the key mid animation or something and the swap wont register
so if anything, it makes me a slower and worse player, by enforcing this weird global cooldown restriction
I somewhat agree, but you describing how it works means there is some intuition taking place.
the point is that i am allowing extra time to get smacked in the head while waiting for global cooldown to reset so i can swap my weapon. then the result is, i am pressing too fast and that does not register my weapon swap, so i press again.. and again. and voila, fisticuffs vs Godking the Vikingslayer
From there it will just take some adjustments
i think all of this is a terrible and clunky mechanic, in a game that otherwise feels very fluid and smooth
You can get used to it, it makes sense to have these delays with the amount of enemy weaknesses, it can quickly become meta to switch between weapons quickly
Just showing my faith
It almost seems like you are not supposed to switch weapons while fighting, could make you quite vulnerable for a bit π
Yes, because it isn't a problem in the first place so idk what other answer you would expect
easy block
Hey guys. Does anyone happen to have a discord link to the Valheim Remastered guys discord? Just started their 80+ mod set and had a quick question. Thanks.
I don't believe links are allowed, but you could inquire in #mods-discussion
Good call. Thanks.
Being blocked for the slightest of disagreements...
I would not bother, it already showed its true colors
People less than 13 years are not allowed here for a reason
How come trolls can break finewood trees but lox cannot?
Seems a reasonable take to me.
People can read a question and still disagree with it.
Don't bother
@vocal rivet that don't bother trying to reason with that one. You won't get anything useful from it
Sounds like you panic in combat? Pulling out construction hammer is a useful tech against weapon swap delay and animations. Yea it means cycling through more keys. Weapon swap on Xbox is even more fun than PC. Should try it some time
guys if ur not gonna read what i wrote, dont ping with with stupid takes, im not interested
if u cant read what i write, then i wont read your response either
Easy block kid. Good fuckin luck
chat full of americans, for real
Don't ask for help then act like a dick. Cheers wank
No sir. I was born free. Hence my inability to not cuss somebody out when they out of pocket. Freedom units freely delivered. No tariffs necessary
About your car's extended warranty - oh wait, wrong bit.
No, there isn't. You'll have to re-configure keys manually outside of the game. Easy to do with steam deck, would take a bit of tinkering, but you'll have to do some testing on your own side.
And most likely have to do it again and again and again each time a new update drops.
And with "update" I'm not only talking about the DN, but also each and every bug solving patch.
Wait what was the meme.....hold up lemme reconstruct this
what the hell is happening here
@gray cairn very cheeky name spelling. I lol'd hard when I finally recognized it

MY MAN I've had this name for a hot minute (5 years), and this is the first time someone pointed it out to me
NGL I winced a little at the thought of it. Lol
Was doing a joke run in some game, and the game censored it, so I spelt it like so and liked it.
Well it reminded me (being in my upper 40s), I should schedule for my annual physical. SMH

I used to annoy fellow Swedes when I played WoW by reporting their naughty Swedish names along with a translation π
Im almost 30 and should schedule my first one, actually, thanks for reminding me.
Thank you friend
(I played on roleplaying servers, running into characters with kindergarten-level names broke immersion, so they deserved it)
You're the kid that asked the teacher for more homework, aren't you?
Prolly would've done the same, ngl.
Nah, see the above follow up. Got no issue with joke names on your average server, but on rp servers there are indeed naming conventions.
Yeah, I 100% agree, I was just pulling your leg a little, no offense intended. π
On the topic. I don't often see viking names in game on servers.
That's true. Your average joe(me) doesn't know many names beyond Ragnar tho.
My main viking is named GrjΓ³tharΓ°ur π
Idk what that word sounds like, but I already know it sounds badass
Just knock just about anything into google translate to Icelandic - got your Viking name!
Tbf I don't use proper viking names either lol
Wonder what coxwab would be in Icelandic lol
HanaΓΎurrkur
(according to google, I take no responsibility for accuracy...)
Thanks for that.
I have no idea how to pronounce that letter in the middle. Dangit, in school we did train some Danish and Norwegian, but Icelandic is too remote I guess, it might as well be greek it's so far removed.
I didn't intend for it but I think "Gruictor" sounds plausibly Viking - do y'all think?
Swap the c for a k and the o for a u and you're good to go!
I run Neqtan and Edralna rather often
Gruiktur?
-why do I read guitar?
That's metal
I read Icelandic is the closest reference we have left to a "viking" language. Not sure the accuracy there
There are very few Americans here. How dare you.
awkward silence ensues....
That and Faroese I'd say
Not sure I should be offended. My freedom glasses aren't allowing me to read that clearly
Enjoy!
Hoping thereβs dual wielding weapons here so far there isnβt any start duals maybe with bronze
There are a few but not many.
guys, what am i doing wrong that i have huge food problems?
i have a field with iirc 400 barley, i have a field with 300 onions, the yotun bubbly things, etc. but i always struggle to have enough in mistlands
oh alright thanks
What is your playstyle - tanky (HHS), mobility (HSS) or mage (HEE)? No matter what style you should not have any food problems really, unless you haven't fully upgraded your cauldron and built the food preparation table. Might need to spend more time hunting hares - and don't forget to raise chickens.
i am in mistlands. i... use the carapace armor
since fenris is too squishy.
my food that i usually do rn is onyo soup, seeker roast and bread.
i am trying to change the soup to salads
Mage should really use SEE, the bubble staff takes care of health
Playing melee I spent most of my time in Mistlands on Lox pie, serpent stew and salad. Once I had enough hare and seeker meat I swapped the serpent stew for meat platter, and later the pie for honey glazed chicken.
And even as a tank you can use HSS with great success π
I prefer surviving the odd hit, never had problems managing stamina. And if the dung hits the windmill there is always meads...
I play a mix of anything normally and before i get some magic i go HHS and after I go HSE and I never had a probleme surviving and killing what needs to be dead. It all comes down to playstyle not only food you eat. But I agree... see that you get the best bang for your food that you can possibly have and do not run around the mistland on wolfskewer and carrotsoup or somesuch
Yeah, cooked meat is a waste of materials really, go with lox pie or meat platter instead of cooked seeker meat. And if you haven't started raising chickens you should do that!
also i go HHS with the fenris on in the plains with no problems what so ever on normal difficulty... a little less os on hard difficulty... had to get me ratatosk and padded helmet as I only had wolfsskewer in the beginning and sausage and eyescreme...soo there is that it also depends on what difficulty you play
DM @dusky pivot and ask π it often is accidental misspelling of some word which makes it into either bad word, word from other language or stuff like that which then triggers automod
the bar i hate being small most is the stamina bar so there is always the highest stamina food I can afford in the mix... Actually I usually never make meatplatter - that stuff is expensive as hell misthare supreme is much better and not as expenisve
I already did, yeah. Good to know! π
well, seeker meat is easy to get. kill seekers, fry them. the lox paste requires multiple ingredients, etc.
yesterday i finally unlocked the feasts, i wonder if 1 feast + salad + bread would be good. but then i obviously need to step up the barley
I live on honeyglazed chicken, misthare supreme and salad or omlett in the Mistlands... just saying
bread is plains tier ...salad is mistlands tier
hares are a pain in the ass to sufficiently hunt. but i guess i just didn't spam the entire mistlands part i am currently in with fog torches
tame some lox at the border to the mistlands and breed them... got 10 stacks of hare meat that I just picked up of the ground next to my base π
For hares the staff of embers is awesome π
let the lox, squitos and fuling do the hunting and never go hungry
The filter is rough. Been timed out three times. Two were for saying the other form of rooster. One was for Imp-ear-yum. Yet I got away with legit cuss words this morning. Man I can't call it.
Wierd. I'll be careful. Why would euh.. that I word be on the filter?
They are a server company who was advertising here in the wrong ways. So Smiffe put em on filter lol
I think I swore once or twice at least so far, I'm a real potty mouth irl so I'll watch out.
Neither of those are unreasonable.
That's actually a good idea
Watch out for animal names such as the bird, the dog, the donkey and the rooster.
wish i could find a way to filter them peddlers better in my twitch stream... so annoying π
They're actually good dudes. Retired military. They run a nice operation. But yea they ruffled smiffes feathers.
No sir not at all. Roostering is out of pocket. But so is fuck
And dick and bitch
I wouldn't push it
You feel me
Try the one starting with C I dare you.
You mean Count?
Nearly.
Not my filter sir. I'm just pointing out it's a little dumb
Count as in the one where Sesamestreet went wrong....
Except it isn't. A bit trigger happy maybe.
Sometimes it's good to count the C's in the room on entry
Dog one is fine, then. And Richard.
Aye everyone loves Richard
THATS MY FAVOURITE WORD π
Spot the Australian.

Close enough.
We use C word as disrespect in the states. Meanwhile Ausis use it like we use bro lol
Sure π€£
We use it as an insult, too, here.
Used to be ours, not so fussed anymore, kinda speaks English. Interchangeable really.

Yep see. That's close to the level of insult the C word holds
Okay...since the niveau here just dropped below the carpet Imma gonna go do some japanese learning now...ttyl π

Guys... I am waiting when the chat gets purged, either because of the content or because this is valheim chat xD
Damn, you're right, thought this was general, my bad
I'm moving along.
Hopefully the filter gets improved from our delinquency
Sorry for being off topic. Hope you amazing Vikings have a lovely day
Not even close.
Smiffe will be by soon enough. He gets pinged for all of those words even if they're not automodded.
Are the wiki entries for the Slayer red/blue/green upgrades scuffed? The data on the right hand table is different from the table at the bottom (showing upgrades). What are the actual real numbers?
i have yet to really tame anything efficient. i have 1 2 star boar in a pen
but outside of that nothing. i looked a lot for a starred lox but learned they cant have any
I never tame boars it is boaaaaring... but i do tame lox - but I make sure i build a base at the border to the mistlands and tame them there...they are useful watchdogs and skilled fuling and hare killers π
Which table?
and what's different?
i assume it will be easier to snipe hares if you clear out a big area of mist...
I see now
It's only for green and blue slayer. And the red one is correct but the upgrade table from below is not side to side with the info card of the article
I've read this three times and I'm still lost. What do you mean not side to side?
i assume he means the ashlands imbued weapons? lightning, ... poison? and blood?
I cannot see any differences
Tho the Scourging Slayer tables seem to be a bit broken, but that is the only one
also is there any real reason to get the mistlands axe? or do i skip it and just use blackmetal one?
it looks weaker damage wise.
Sounds exhausting. Sorry, smiffe.
It has better total base dmg and even cuts faster, but you dont need it for cutting new trees or anything
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Scourging_Slayer
On the right hand side it says Primary attack says 135 slash and 10 lightning. Under that (the upgrade table) shows 170 slash 10 lightning.
Gotcha.
Is it supposed to be 135+10? Or is it actually 170+10?
170+10
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Primal_Slayer This one is messed up as well (in the opposite way though - the upgrade table says 135+10).
Where? that one is fine
Someone already fixed it. I just refreshed and it is good now.
You guys are fast! Thanks
When we have info π if you find anything else dont hesitate and tell us
We started working on it as soon as it was originally raised.
Love it!
So now that I have confirmed they are all 170 damage (plus their effects), is there one people generally prefer or is it more preference/matchup dependent? In other words, which one should I focus on first?
Depends on your playstyle, but usually iolite or jade version is preffered π for bloodstone version to work properly and for you to use its effect effetively, you have to use quite specific playstyle
so how would one approach a hare farm? i make a pen and then.... harpoon hares into it?
Why would you want one?
meat farm?
i assumed that 2 hares would, through breeding lead to infinite hares
like 2 make 3, then 4, then 4 make 6, 6 make 9, etc π
Β¨We cant tame hares
You can't tame hares, let alone breed them.
wait really? i vividly remember watching a video about hare farms... welp, then that idea dies
well, you can "farm" them by placing stakes
little shits are all over the mistlands and die easily
My guess is that player used a mod.
I believe there's a mod out that lets you tame all animals..
I also believe that a player should mention that (s)he's using mods when making videos to avoid confusion like this. Unfortunally, not all that record Valheim do that.
i would not have issues arbalest sniping them, if i would see a damn thing in the mists. ree
Haha I think the opposite, seeker meat and lox meat I have coffers overflowing with, so with only a misthare steak added to it I consider it the cheapest of the bunch. Relatively that is... But seeker and lox meat is impossible to not have tons of just by moving around in either biome, the one thing that is annoying to hunt is the cursed hares. I tend to scavenge frontier zones with plains, where the hares are routinely killed by deathsqitos..
Well, you're already making bread - which is honestly a bit of a waste of barley flour. The flour is better utilised with either the lox pie (cloud berries grow in dense clusters, five to ten minutes of picking will easily get you a couple of stacks - enough for both salad and pies) or the blood pudding which is a better stamina food than bread. The ingredients for that you should have tons of after having been to the swamp. Something I do like about the bread though is that it stacks to 20. When exploring I often use wolf skewer, sausage and bread just to not have to go back home for food so often.
Putting some wisp torches in area can help seeing them, they don't prevent mob spawning either.
yeah, i may reconsider bread to lox pies, and when i make lox pies, also just put some inot the feast. to be on feast - pie - salad
Then buy it...
dh money sadly
Then you'll just have to save.
I dont have it sadly
It's like three packs of cigarettes or pints of lager, a pretty negligible price tbh.
Ask mommy or daddy to buy it for you.
Do you guys think I can handle Yagluth with my silver equipment?
Silver sword is pretty much the best weapon to use against him, so yeah.
Silver sword or frostner are 2 of the best choices of weapons for him, if you can i would make padded armor if you have wolf now
Oh nice
Yag is however a step up in boss difficulty, it's actually the only boss I've died to so far
I need yggdrassil for the black forge, but I can't chop yggdrassil without black metal axe
He can be pretty intense for the first time, for sure π
Go make it then π
But I need black forge for the black metal axe, right?
Nope π
Oh
just forge lvl 4 or above
How do I smelt my black metal scrap?
Did you kill Moder? She drops what you need
It's literally Plains level.

No I haven't even found Moder. Just Yugluth or whatever the name is and the Queen.
You prgress to next biome before killing bosses?
Why are you playing backwards?
Well, then I would explore more mountains to locate Moder, her drops unlock the plains gear.
Generally, rushing only makes things very complicated and unfun, wait a bit with Mistlands and go find Moder so you can do Plains properly.
Moder can be hard to find. I did the same my first playthrough but finding the queen already like that is crazy
I didn't even know I skipped a boss because I haven't found that boss.
But... Each biome has a boss...
I thought Yugluth was either the frost mountain boss or plains boss.
But I have yet to come to his location, I just see him on the map.
I do have five black cores, though, so I can get the black forge the second I get more yggdrassil.
Aright, you should definitely do a bit more adventuring in the mountains. The vaegvisirs are often in ruined towers or frost caves.
Yeah
Her, by the way, Moder is the mother of drakes π
The drakes are super easy, so as long as I bring a bunch of arrows, I'll probably destroy her π§π»
But maybe I can take Yugluth first?
Because I already know his location.
Dont
It's tempting now that he's right there
Defeating Yagluth first will enable multiple raids that you probably aren't strong enough for
Oh wow.
I don't even know how that works, so yeah, I guess I'll have to take Moder first.
It has done that for every other boss you've defeated.
Oh that! I call them sieges. Raids sounded like a new thing.
You know when lots of monsters attack your home.
The only seiges in the game are done by the player.
The monster raid attacks ends in a certain amount of time, right? Regardless of how many I kill?
Correct π
Then I feel pretty confident because of my big stone walls.
My free range wolf horde has been taking care of raids no problem. Even up to seekers
Fader was a lot easier than I anticipated. It pays to be prepared.
Grayling be sieging my front door all the time. Granted I leave it open.
I mean, they don't but OK.
Your a tough one to take the piss with. Ok at the least uninvited lol
Oh, no, make a joke and I'll be right there with you.
Fair. Poor crack at something funny
Moder dead
Why is the test cape from the console commands so silly tho??
Because it was used for some kind of tests π
Next you'll be wondering why we have a corgi statue.
We have a corgi statue?! π
Yup.
That one i never found
tho i found the halo glider
Careful spawning it. Legend has it that it can't be removed.
Legend might be correct, never tried removing it. But since i use commands in this fashion only on test worlds it never was a problem π
right, ive killed 3 of the bosses now and i managed to get silver! where would be the best biome to build my 'main' outpost ? this will be built into a town/village adventually π
Best is subjective.
There are people who have built in every single biome.
So there is no wrong answer to "where main base" --> Build where you, personally, feel like building.
is there any advantages/dissadvantages?
Everywhere.
If you want to do any metal processing at your base, it would be a good idea to be coastal so that you can ship ore easily, for example
*Provided you don't portal metal.
so as i am new and this is my first ever survival game rather than get mega confused i have a couple mods, mainly graphical however i have 'no max weight' and increesed inv slots, untill i get a rough understanding of the game / mobs/ items etc then i will make a whole new vanilla world!
currently iron/silver stage 3 bosses killed and 30 hours played ...
Apart from the mods you listed, do you have any others that affect gameplay meaningfully?
nope π
no max weight is a big cheat lol
yeah i get that 100% but im very slow learning haha
Inventory management is a key part of the game (and is a lot simpler than people make it out to be).
So the whole "Until I get an understanding" --> You will never get this understanding for as long as you're ignoring a key aspect of gameplay.
kinda agree! you may have convinced me to just start over! ive got a basic understanding of gameplay now, i hope hah
Well, since you can carry basically anything without penalty, you probably won't need a coastal base for metal processing since you can just carry stuff. Mountains could house the base, but it will be cold and that's probably not ideal. Swamp is overall a very hostile biome for the player, but I've heard that some people have made cool little outposts in the indestructible trees. That leaves forest and meadows, unless you want to wait for one of the later biomes.
You're about to hit parts of the progression where one of the main challenges will be item weight
wanna slightly give me a hint so i wont be puzzled when i hit it in my fresh world?
Anyone on a dedicated server they want people to join? Just looking around for people to play with
We can't force how you like to play the game, but be warned that eliminating carrying capacity will build some very bad habits.
Like, needing to transport multiple items 100% necessary for progression that weigh 2/3 of your default carrying capacity apiece.
Tips on inventory management:
Treat it like your IRL day, take what you need for the day.
Scout areas with nothing but your weapon and hammer.
When you need wood, take your axe (unless that is your weapon in which case you always have it).
When you need ore, take your pickaxe.
Otherwise, you can leave both at home.
Food? Early on take 3 of each so by the end of your day you're out and you gain the 3 slots back. When you get longer-lasting foods take only 2 and then down to where you take none because you just eat when you wake up and then the 30 minute timer on your screen tells you when to be home.
Boat.
and/or cart
Heck, mining for ore is going to be a little more complicated than you realize when you turn carrying capacity and inv slots back to default.
not considered 'cheating' for texture packs right? something a little more 'hd'
It's a single-player game.
No one cares if you cheat.
That's not cheating at all, that's just making the game more pretty
That is subjective AF.
Depends on their world modifiers.
Ore portaling is completely valid.
Yeah, I personally wouldn't go for it either
Yet you are the one who declared it "prettier"
I personally also like the challenge of not being able to portal ore, but that's just me
I don't think it should be able to be portalled at all.
But then they added the π€¬ ing Stone Portal because screw years of them saying that certain things shouldn't be portalled.... they contradicted their own design π€·ββοΈ
Prettier for Beyond specifically, I guess I should clarify.
What is "Beyond"?
BeyondAgameR
me?
Not this again. Things still can't be portalled until you reach the penultimate bio,e.
fook it im going compleatly vanilla! no mods not even graphics! wish me luck!
Welcome to the family π
β€οΈ
tbh i need a game i can play for 1000's hours and still feel i can progress hopefully now i will π
Best way to play the game.
and ill bump it up to 'normal' dificulty rather than the easy i had before haha
Extremely Hard.
Feel the pain π
i still die on easy ...
one step at a time haha
What should I be doing in the plains first?
Exploring π
Find barley and flax
And the second thing you should do in plains, is running for your life when you hear "Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt" π
Doesen matter what you are doing, just smash Shift + W and hold it π
"It only has 10 HP, surely they can't be THAT bad!"
Running is not necessarily the best strategy though
Running?
You mean timing your front kicks like a boss? π
For someone who desent have prior experience with them, probably is π
Or holding block
Aren't they faster than the player? (unless maybe with the fenris set)
They are, but if you are running directly from them then they will attack but it will not land π
Yeah, but at some point you will run out of stamina
Indeed, but the initial running away may give you a little bit of a breather so you can figure something out π
Just slow down so they can get close to you and start sprinting when they slow down and they miss every time.
Also an option π
Or just frontkick them and they die.
It's likely the first encounter will happen while moving into the Plains from another biome.
When that happens, going back as if death was on your tail may help you, as you got other creatures to distract "death".
Blocking works well too. Most important thing is to constantly watch out for them. They are really dangerous if they catch you by surprise
And running entails the risk of attracting more
I worry that Iβll have to make a farm for that
You will π
Good thing theres a fuling camp attached to my swamp
Why the wavy line?
coz it's more aesthetic than spamming i in hiiiiiii
To read it with a bit longer "i" i believe π
A sexy hi
exactly? i think?
Pretty much xD tho i've never seen it described like that
anyway, back to question. i like playing brawlers but having to wait till mountain for fist weapons is kinda... meh. so i'd like to know if there are any earlier ones (except the cup)
You could just do away with the spamming completely.
Fucking about with Character ai taught me to believe that the wavy line means horny
please, no ai
And THAT is not a topic for this server.
Nope, the flesh rippers are currently the only fist weapon π
Noted
so... i have to wait a long time to get them, and some time after getting them, they're gonna be too weak for the content?
Pretty much, that is how progression works
they're perfectly in the middle ;-;
Their backstab secondary deals more stagger than anything else (I think), up to 2,592 at level 4
also not only fist weapon, there is that cup you can use but it's super weak
A cup is not a weapon.
tankard is not a weapon?
No, it lets you drink mead slowly
It's also not a cup...
A manβs cup
chad cup
That is a different kind of vessel π
My strategy with fuling camps is run in, grab flax, skedaddle
How do you even do them normally?
Surgically
I use a bow to get the attention of a small group, then use a melee weapon to kill them.
They all just swarm me, and Iβve just entered the plains
you need to get familiar with how much noise you are making
Thatβs what the bow is for. They canβt all swarm you if they havenβt all seen you.
Should I get the black metal atgeir or level up my Frostner?
What is the mexium level of the workbench?
Also there is one bow that is a little less noisy than the others, making it the top choice to pick gobbos out in their villages without attracting too much attention
"Top choice"? π€
For shootting them without rest aggroing π
huntsman bow kinda goated for fuling villages ngl yea
That can also just be a matter of distance.
If you're truly sniping from downtown they can't aggro to you because you're out of their detection radius bubble.
it is the goat for sniping, I even get seekers with it, use first shot or shots with huntsmen to get those to come closer, and when they have left their friends behind you change to a higher dps bow (works well with fuling villages and also in mistlands, also with lox etc)
Does the Huntsman have the ability to one-shot the Fulings?
yes
Interesting.
Also it looks beautiful
it's also the first bow to shoot straight
Beauty is in the eye of the mead-holder.
And after enough mead lots of stuff looks beautifull π
Crude Bow not accurate enough for you?
Scale issue π
Its conventially beautiful π
that moment when spears are a better ranged weapon than the crude bow π
It took me seriously long to git gud with that bow
Deep North needs magic spear with auto-return enchantment π
Nothing to do with scale, itβs rng
I do have a scale issue using spears
Fine, if we are doing β»οΈ
Deep North needs to actually balance swords by reverting the MTP.
I need to know, should I get a black metal atgeir or max out my Frostner?
I love the MTP being missing π
Whichever weapon you like more
All matters of "should" are your personal choice and our opinions on the matter are meaningless.
me personally i'd go for blackmetal atgeir
As Scales said, depends on your prefference, both are great π
also I NEED to have 1 of each WEAPON in DN, gimme gimme gimme
So you can get hit by those seekers
So do I - but it sorely needs to go missing from the Krom as well!
both of course!
It should be missing from Krom and Slayer, it should be present on all other swords.
mods this guy right here π
And if I have to choose, the Krom having no mtp would make more sense than the 1h sword
I think all swords shouldnβt have it
Atgeir it is, then Iβll switch to himminafl or krom, then the flametal sword
Cuz that's game balance right there... Make swords the uncontested best melee weapon....
uh atgeir?
fair, Krom is still great, I always tell this story where I killed a 2 star seeker with a level 1 krom, naked! (all my armours where in that mine)
uh Berserkir Axes?
It is not completely illogical with all swords - I'd settle for a lesser mtp on the onehanders π
kinda garbo ngl that's my hot take
You shut your naked, hungry, no-mead mouth.
Primal Axes is one of my fav weapons
Putting Green on a melee weapon π
This needs to include the fishing rod. It does damage but thereβs no upgrades throughout the game. Why did this weapon class go abandoned
yes and then Fader is rooted!
Bosses not having CC immunity π
bosses shouldn't be able to be rooted
Atgeir is awesome and the only reason I didnβt use it was so Iβd have good mace skill for bonemass, if I ever play valheim multiplayer Iβm maining atgeir
I hope the deep north has an atgeir
Just use the Atgeir on Bonemass?
Or have substantialy lower chance to get rooted
yea like 0.00000001% chance π
Or have CC immunity like they do in every game ever made?
Bonemass is weak to blunt, and I was very scared of losing
Goodness, met my first ||morgen|| and got absurdly lucky. A starred dvergr rogue kept it busy so I could pepper it with arrows from safety
Maybe a little too substantial difference xD
I canβt wait to fight one of them
It could be a weaker effect, reducing move/turnspeed instead of preventing all movement
He is zero-damage fight?
And you would have gained at least 5 more levels in atgeir π
Wdym zero damage?
they are resistant to pierce though haha I would recommend a different weapon or use elemental arrows if you need to
He was a lot easier than I expected
Came home from an excursion and it was walking around the perimiter of my outpost, then suddenly it rushed off in the opposite direction and started fighting, so all I had to do was pumping arrows at it. (Frost arrows yeah)
Raised Hand = Swipe. Roll into him.
Both Hands on Belly = Poison Vomit, either backroll twice or turn around and sprint for 2s.
Hand in Armpit = Adds spawn, turn around, run in direction he is face. One shot when they land with Iron Mace or Sledge.
ο»Ώ
He is a literal zero-damage fight.
All bosses are a zero damage fight π
He is the easiest to take no damage in imo.
Oh you shu-
-# but you are correct xD
Dunno, Yag is pretty hard to get near without taking damage. Taking it out with just arrows must take an eternity
Sometimes Eikthyr's antlers twitch for a frame or 2 and you take the occasional mis-timed hit.
I'd say Eik and Elder are exactly the same or even easier to 0 dmg them
Elder gotta be easier
Bonemass is just pathetically easy to read.
Occasional bad root spawn will hit sometimes.
so u just run
Elder in melee range is 2nd tutorial boss
I just looked at Yagluthβs weaknesses and now Iβm even more unsure of what to get
Silver sword is freaking amazing for him
I know this.
I am rating Bonemass the easiest because he has no "occasionally" hiccups like the other 2 listed ones do.
What about Frostner?
The best π
Sword better.
Use frostner or silver sword
Haha spinesnap's durability at 75% after that morgen
2nd best π
Fuck it, Iβm getting both weapons I want
Mistwalker is good for morgens
yeah frostner works well too, and yeah sword is goat for it
Frostner π€’
It looked scary, I didn't want to go close...
I haven't made Frostner for like 10+ play throughs now haha
It is a good weapon π that we dont use it since knockback sucks is irrelevant
Their melee attacks arenβt too bad. When they swipe, jump to the side and get a few free hits.
The reasons we don't use it are what makes it not a good weapon. @merry pebble
yeah that knockback is great if you want to use it, but not being able to turn if off is meh
megapunt should be only on the secondary attack.
Yeah I hate that you can never land a full combo because the mobs go flying
thats my main reason not to use it
For us π
That's why I can accurately say "I would mod before I would use Frostner" π
Because that is probably the only mod I would consider.
Gods, I'm burning through arrows fast here. Always been mostly melee focused, but these mobs scare me, taking them out from afar if I can. Got into a melee tussle with a one star warrior and thought I'd stagger him with my combo after parrying. Nope, it hurt. Bit of a scare there.
Using mistwalker, still haven't found any metal. π¦
Using arrows against targets that almost all have Pierce Resist is part of why you're burning through them. π¬
Actually using your melee weapons is the fastest way to make them not scare you any more
so we have the scythe now to harvest much faster. is there also anything to plant faster, or the plow the only thing?
We have a plow?
You mean cultivator?
Danger link is dangerous.
Yep, cultivator
Sometime I wish we had a better cultivator tool that only planted something if the seed had room to grow
ye, cultivator. my game isn't english. so well, planting 450 onions 1 by 1 is annoying
Then plant fewer. You don't need 450
Making too much sense Derek.
Thats why you usually dont need to plant that much π and if you do you have a lots of time before you need to plant them again
My one flaw.
A good one to have tho π
Depends on whom you ask π Other people who are no longer allowed to speak seem to think you have many π
i do need that many π€·π»ββοΈ
You're confusing "need" with "want."
Is there another hoe besides the stone one?
No.
Uh, I need massive gardens everywhere.
You are also confusing terms.
Oh well
Gotta counteract the depression haha
no, the onion consumption is that high
Unless you're eating-barfing-eating continuously on a loop, there is no way you need 450 onions every 3 days.
Then you can't really complain. it's your choice to do it
Raise Ground is how you counteract depressions π
I feel ya. Keep trying, you'll get it! πͺ
Patience is key with every build
i mean i like the philosophical conversation about my ingame needs, but the question remained unanswered. seems there is no better cultivator.
No, I don't think there is.
There isn't. And probably there will not be, as there is no need for one
is there a way to reduce the smoke puffs that happen when I place or break objects? Normally it's fine but not being able to see where exactly I'm planting my onions is slowing an already tedious process down a LOT
will the bog witch icon pop up on my minimap like traders do? i know for the other traders i was a bit further away from them unexplored and they are marked on the map, is it same for the bog witch?
Yes, same distance
thank you
TIL that bees have a phrase "The bees don't like this biome".
Ashlands or Swamp?
Ocean π

makes them salty
wait how do you place a beehive in the ocean π€
I was messing with locations, and found ||DevGarden|| π
Also, consequently, found a way to make insanely large flat areas π
pillars
I can't log into my friends' servers anymore always gives connection failure Does anyone know how to solve ?
Ocean pillars? π€
probably VPN issues or disable crossplay
Mistlands + Mountains + Deep North too
oh mistlands too thats sad
Bow π
is there a way to use both magic and weaponry? Or, rather, is magic still good without the eitr robes?
Draugr Fang if you have it, ideally with needle arrows (which you'll get pretty quickly once you start killing mosquitos). Get Porcupine when you can though, it's the best weapon against loxen
noted
Yo anyone wanna play? Im newish i played on console awhile ago
This is a question for me, love it! In the 7th biome it is currently my favourite playstyle but works well in the Mistlands as well, I generally use 1 Stamina 1 Health and 1 Eitr food, Heavy Armour no mage robes, and the weapons can make several ones work, what biome you in still Mistlands?
You can also take feasts instead of some of the food but I currently run HSE food for it, especially when I haven't unlocked the last 2 feasts yet.
#1024264966712340510 is best place to look, can make a post or look for a server in or near your location and timezone where you are
Are you using the Plant Everything Mod? That will let you plant larger grids of items once configured
yup, early-ish Mistlands. I have a level 3 Galdr and level 1 Black Forge, a Mistwalker sword, Spinesnap, feather cape, and carapace shield and helm if that offers any insight.
bruh I just got the scariest experience of my life. I'm building my Galdr magic workshop and listening to music when a fucking greydwarf brute just walks through me from behind and right into my face.
Your base...needs work.
I- it's safe I swear π
Hehe. I am trying to build a secure base in the mistlands, but it is triggering Gjall raids. I need the shield generator, many ballistas. Walls don't stop seekers and ticks, they just pile over.
I just don't like how trenches and big all-encompassing walls look. To be clear this is my by-the-altar Meadows base
I plan on making a small-ish Mistlands farm by the same spot where I farm sap and call it a day; I already have a Plains base I put more effort into than I'd like to admit that functions as my farm for everything else and is guarded by a pretty big herd of loxen.
Reply, sounds great!
it does help a lot that I turned the portal slider all the way down so I don't need to have multiple bases for different metals, etc. of course
yo anyone down to play i havent played much before but i get the jist
We are on a modded server if you want to try that.
You can use mistwalker and carapace shield and also armour, keep bow too, and also use staff of protection and staff of embers, is what I would do with the aforementioned food combo to try out being a heavily armoured combat mage
no thanks for the offer tho
I might give that a try once I find more soft tissue, then. I should also mention that I also wear Fenris pants to mitigate the speed loss from the chestplate and the lack of strong pants has been making my life mildly inconvenient.
I was told to wear the Root Harnesk Chest piece in the Mistlands, it has Pierce resistance that is needed for Seekers
