Real talk but like… why do people love the plains and hate the mistlands, I’m on my 1st playthrough and I straight up hated the plains, boring, very little content and gear, a “dungeon” that was just ass, no mining whatsoever, everyone’s like ITS THE BEST BIOME, meanwhile mistlands which I just got to adds like 10+ new weapons, quality over quantity enemies, amazing dungeons, friendly npcs, great music and atmosphere, a whole shot ton of food, and all people have to say is “bad terrain, mist annoying” I’ll take the mist over fighting 20 fuling with mountain gear

Plains is weird to me, because by the time I find / get to moder, I've gone through enough plains that i basically don't ever need to go back.
plains is easy to me - you can parry a squito with an iron buckler, and the iron mace works great against the little fulings, and the tar mobs take care of quite a bit for you.
Didn’t have that experience but totally, the Moder fight was surrounded by plains so theoretically I could’ve just messed around there. And yeah I only ever return to like deal with my crops, other than that you just never need to unless you’re using an obsessive amount of tar
But just having way more fun with the mistlands. I’d rather fight a pack of like 3 seekers than go anywhere near fuling as they just throw spears, cackle, and run away
Frostner is great against the Fulings and the tars and the deathsquitos and atgeirs and bows work well against lox, plains is like the endgame equivalent to the meadows and acts as a perfect launchpad to the endgame content, it’s fairly peaceful, beautiful terrain and loads of new base building unlocks make it the perfect spot to base
i usually go frostner, i skipped it this last time because the porky is just really, really strong
i spent all my silver on the sword for fighting yag
Easy access to finewood, tar, stone and you’ve got yourself the recipe for a huge base
I just used frostner on yag ive still never tried porcupine I don’t think lol
it's a cool weapon, but i do like the frost / slow on enemies
Lox pie is also an easy 75hp food to craft that is as plentiful as sausages in swamp
yah, not even really worth taming lox anymore, as they're just everywhere and respawn so fast
I tamed them once on my first playthrough and then never used them again after riding him once across a river and then just let him free roam
If they could transport carts with ease I would be more inclined to use them
Plains is:
The best place to build a base
One of the strongest metals is very easily available and renewable there
One of the strongest enemies can be tamed there
The food you get from it is easy to gather and cook
Also...
Dvergr = friendly NPCs?
lol
Mistlands also has gjall raids
and you can’t see shit most of the time while plains is only 40% of the time
#screenshots message i'd rather live here than in plains
Like mistlands you only want a cozy little outpost with a lot of roots close by and mushroom farming
Enjoy the pleasures of having that gjall on the left wreck your base
with arbalest, they're easy
Counterpoint
Deathsquitos are so gosh darn annoying omg, idc if they’re easy to take care of, each time they give me a heart attack
I never feel at ease in the plains so don’t really want to make a base there, with the mistlands you can keep a lot of the natural generating enemies away from you just cause they spawn on the other side of a rock
I just don’t like the plains music, it sounds like it’s try to hard to make you feel calm
While yes mistlands mist be annoying, I’ll just find an area without mist and those spots are gorgeous
Mistlands food isn’t that hard to get and also why would I need easy access to plains food when I can just set up my mistlands farms and be done until ashlands
I’m not taming lox just for it to be murdered by mosquitoes
When you make a base with huge walls deathsquitos and other naturally generating enemies will not see you so they won’t annoy you
Mistlands hares are a pain in the ass to hunt
well, plains just isn't very good looking to build in for me, i'd rather build in meadows or mistlands. but you can solve any issue you have with campfires for spawning
They just been running into me ngl
True
I’m currently running lox pie meat platter and blood pudding, hare meat is the only one I’m constantly low on
well, i also notice a lot of people try and sword hares instead of shooting them with magic/bow 😄
I’m using crossbow and it’s still a pain lol, I think the what strategy is finding unmisted coastland and crossbowing them tbh
I just wait for the to run into a pit/ find an area where there ai bugs and just farm there
Easier than fighting 2000 pounds of lox muscle
that picture i linked was from when mistlands first came out. i've never found another area like that that didn't have mist 😦
The wisplight is the perfect radius to have hares detect you and crouching is useless when you can’t climb up small hills crouched
Lox is literally parry heavy light parry heavy light with the frostner
Oh yeah the “tall wall point” I’m not building walls as a Viking… we’re raiders, ain’t got no time for “walls”
And you can snipe it with the arbest from a far first for sneak damage
Well this was enlightening, all i got to say is
Mistlands>plains
I found a whole bunch during my latest game so they still exist
hey guys im new to this game like i bought it last week. are there any servers that would be good to play on?
yah, that one was right along the ocean, with a tower already built, plus a bunch of the roots around too 😦
you can search and read around in #1024264966712340510 to try and find one that fits you
aight cool. thanks!
O my god it just dawned on me, full immersion is basically playing minecraft
yah, but with no mending, a weight restriction, and less inventory space 😄
But much better graphics, story and, well, immersion.
Im gonna be lost in a few hours i could already feel it
just gotta learn how to use the tree as a guide, it makes an arrow >---- that points east
Vulkan can give you more FPS if you have a newer model GPU (1060 or better) or AMD 5000 series or better.
Tho some people have problems with AMD and V-sync (you can use the ingame FPS limiter instead if you want to limit your GPU usage)
Give it a try and see if it works.
you can press F2 ingame to open up the statistics window to see your FPS ingame
👉 👈 Anyone playing in a late stage (Mistland/Ashland) world where they might let me hop on and repair my equipment? :X
started ashlands with my friends yesterday
made it ashore and it was hell on earth dude
the entire biome just knew we were coming
in the first 3-5 minutes we got to meet like 80% of the enemy types 😭
Are jotunn puffs to mage caps ratio like 1:2 or 1:3 coz i swear I can find the blue ones everywhere but the yellow ones are so much rarer to comeby
yo question. y'all think it's worth it to build a little barn in your meadows biome?
for wolves and boars. I'm expanding my base a wee bit and I've got space for one more building before I'm walling it all in
If you want to breed them then i dont see why not 🙂
oh ye that's the idea. But I'm wondering if it's worth if at all. I've killed bone-mass already for example
also it's kinda a shame that it's so hard to bring tamed lox back home
...not to mention the structure damage they would cause in your base if you brought them home and got invaded...
They're so big and fuzzy tho! Big fren!
hello
For boars it's certainly a good idea, as there are two air-raids that can kill them.
Another option is to have a breeding pair (a bit) away from your main base, so in case something happens to your boars, you can always replace them.
For wolves it depends at how many you got.
While the air-raids do attack them, the wolves won't be one-shotted, so their chances to survive are better. Still, if you aren't able to deal with those air-raids - which shouldn't happen as you will face the same monsters in the biome they're from - having them in a covered area might be better.
Are there any mods to get rid of bosses? They are annoying af
Love the game but we want to completely remove them from the game. Are there any mods around that work well doing this? So the progression is still fun.
Never seen mods to remove bosses before. Most of them are easy up until queen or moder
You could ask here: https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934289898151966
Or you could simply activate dev-commands and when you're up to fight the boss, summon it and press "K"
That'll kill all living creatures - including pets - in an area around you.
Really?
I'm curious though. What annoys you about bosses?
Or just don't summon them.
There’s a way to completely kill it with no fight?
You can't progress without most boss kills
They drop items you need
And it's how you complete the game.
Ballsm, what do you find annoying about the bosses?
How do all the "no boss run" people do it if you can't progress?
Cheese.
😏
We just don’t enjoy them
The only drop you "need" is Moder's tears.
You can. Only one, perhaps two are really needed, the rest can be avoided by using some glitches and cheesing.
True I guess, but cheese is cheese
Bad design imo. We spent 2h last night fighting and dying to mobs around the boss rather then fighting the boss itself lol
Bad design?
Which boss, Ballsm?
Only boss you can progress past without cheese would be bonemass
On top of that it destroyed our big base….lol
What was your base anywhere near the altar?
So you made a bad call on location and now one of the primary features of the game should be removed?
Ya that’s my point. I don’t want to cheese just kill the skip the fight lol
Just don't start it.
We just don’t like the design of them. They shouldn’t be in the world imo. They should have their own separate location
🤦♂️
Just annoying
What boss is it
Bone guy
They have a seperate location.
Yagluth?
The zero-damage fight is the most annoying boss to you?
Bonemaas was the same thing. We just cheesed him
Ah, why do I have that sudden feeling someone went in a bit unprepared....... 🤔
Because everything thinks food doesn't matter?
Did you even upgrade equipment. Use healing meads , spend time getting good food? Get padded armor
No it’s the death bugs and lox around him
I wonder why one would builld a big base so close to a boss arena that it would get destroyed in that fight... i mean that world ist HUGE... there is so much space
Yup have all that
Food, potions, weaponry.....
Is this a thing? We can just kill it this way?
The deathsquitos are easy to kill, yagluth you can just drag around a corner and poke him to death with melee
I think you're just suffering from a skill issue especially when you're playing in a group
You can kill bosses with Dev-commands, yes
I never had a problem fighting yag in fenris armor and clearing that areao out first delete all the lox and fuling and squitos around there and then go in and fight... and also ... my main base would ALWAYS be far enough to not be involved in a boss fight.. sorry ... no commiseration from me... it is just stupid to build next to the arena and then summon the boss on top
Ok great, don’t want to start any negativity: just don’t enjoy the bosses in this game lol
Other games are available.
the bosses are the main thing in the story... just saying...if you do n ot like - go play something else instead?
Dude we like the game just not the bosses relax
It very much reads like a past conversation:
"I don't like Valheim."
So play something else?
"No see, I love Valheim, except for the fact I don't like Valheim."
Maybe this isn't your game and you'd enjoy something else more?
"No see, I love Valheim. That's why I'm wondering how to change it into not-Valheim because of how much I don't like Valheim."
Well ok then...
The bosses ARE the game.
The building the fun, the biomes are fun. The bosses are badly designed imo. That is all 😊
I don't mean to like. Spoil anything. But if you think plains and yagluth are hard. You'll have a really bad time even fighting regular mobs in ashland
-# Glad to see other people were reminded of the same concept 😄
if you like the building - go play grounded...it has a similar building system ... maybe you like that more... no bosses too 😄
No we’re geared well, just want his items
well that is untrue..there are bosses but you do not have to do them
They're not badly designed though. You just built a base on him
If they think bosses are annoying, wait till they find out about Mist 😛
You're not going to do well in higher tier biomes if you struggle to defeat a plains boss
Yeah no. The yagluth fight is easier than the flametal farm that's for sure
1 gjall or soldier encounter is going to turn into "is the a mod that removes Valheim from Valheim?"
Accidentally sails into the steaming water, gear is lost forever
Sorry to upset anyone. We have 500h+ in the game and beat all the bosses. We’re just realizing now that we don’t like the bosses. That is all love the game though.
"No see, I love Valheim. That's why I'm wondering how to change it into not-Valheim because of how much I don't like Valheim."
Rather then cheese bosses I just want them gone lol
You don't though. You've made that quite clear.
me gonna go record some more... enough amusement for today 😄 Cassandra has to prepare to go fight yagluth over on the next island 😄
Just cheat the boss drops into Ur inventory then at that point. No mods needed just do a creative mode run
-devcommands , additem
At which point, why play the game at all?
Maybe he's one of the dudes who prefers to just build and make a cool base
Cassandra? The Seeker from the Chantry? 👀
Each into their own
my Character for my YouTube series i am recording (one of them from one of those) I like to give them fancy names 😄
Exactly we love the rest the game. The boss fights for us just arnt fun. Thats about all it is
weeeellll that name is a bit to similar to one already taken 😄
So? If Palworld can pull off "a bit similar" and not have to pay out, I believe in you 😛
That won't happen. But as said, you can make things easier by using some (cheesy) tactics or using dev-commands.
With a group I would advise to the former.
At least that way you will know what the fight is like and you will also know something about how hard the next biome will be.
And fwiw, "cheesing" is valid tactic in this game.
And in a group it's actually easier if you set up a good guideline about how to deal with a boss, instead of just summoning the boss and rush in yelling: "Gung-Ho", "Geromino" or "Leroy Jenkins".
Like, Yagluth is very slow and weak to attacks from behind.
So let one person summon him and the rest waits outside the "fingers".
The moment he shows up, one person triggers the boss and go hiding behind a finger, while the other one runs up to his back and hits him.
Yagluth will most likely turn around, thus exposing his rear, giving another person the chance to get behind him and hit him there.
Do that often enough and he'll go down a lot faster as you think.
Usually. Even in a duo. Yagluth is just as easy as dragging him around a pillar , hitting him w melee and when the agro switches, just repeat the process
What's all this dragging?
You can literally facetank him with Fire Resist.
Just walk around during meteor and you avoid everything, then resume facetanking.
Yeah if you want to avoid taking damage. And if you don't have good gear you can just circle a pillar
I fought yagluth for the first time yesterday, my only death was from him pushing me into a wall and raining the nine circles of hell upon me. So avoid that and keep a portal a 1-2 minute walk away
getting pushed up against a wall is not adviced to be doing in any fight though 😄 i did die to two seekers pushing me into a corner and i could not muster the stam to jump over them... those buggers hit hard man 😄
Using bonemass on the queen, it's easier to get pushed into a wall so you can keep slashing away without the knockback she does.
so im big on magic in games, (especially the more evil aligned ones) will there be more magic items in the future in the game?
There probably won’t be any new items in existing biomes, but the next biome will have some
why should i forge a sword if the axe seems better?
Swords have better range, attack speed and wider attack arc
mace and shield on top
Bro, my server got all messed up, and had registered a portal in a spot where it no longer was, so when I went through on the correct end, it dropped me in the middle of nowhere where the portal used to be. What gives? Now I'm stuck on an island with nothing.
Axe is a bit slower but has a bit more damage per hit, plus it is used as a tool also, so it saves a weapon slot from another slash weapon. But 1h sword is a bit faster, has no multi target penalty and has wider arc and a bit better range.
thanks, that was a very good answer
Both swords and axes have 2h variants too, but 2h axe is obtainable much earlier (3rd biome) than 2h sword (6th biome). Axes have dual wielded version too in 7th biome.
aww man did i miss some bickering
Don't. Axe stronk.
And 1h swords not having mtp needs to get fixed.
-# the extra per-hit damage axes have isn't enough to make up for the slower attack speed in terms of dps, a gap that only grows as you progress through tiers because the difference seems to have been decided additively rather than multiplicatively, and due to that small damage difference, the breaking points are unlikely to differ between the two weapons, making axes always slightly worse as a weapon, but they are of course very usable, and doubling as a tool is a big bonus.
-# balance pass for 1.0 plz...
justice for jotun bane
Dagger tribe over here. But I haven't ever played through the Mistlands so I don't know what it's going to feel like when using the dagger means going without the shield
(i'm gonna be busy for a while now)
It currently feels more like Jotun Pain
That would require poison to be reworked 😁
or simply slapping a huge amount of poison damage on the axe
I was thinking the other day.
so that it's only slightly (as opposed to significantly) worse than mistwalker at continued slashing, but if your hits are interrupted and you can't continue to attack for a while, your poison still does a good bit of extra damage at the end, making it better than mistwalker in that specific situation
You could have poison do a secondary effect of "poisoned enemies take more phys damage" so the non-stacking DoT gives potentially equal dps to stuff like fire and spirit.
And I still think it would look much cooler as battleaxe
do 2 star lox's exist?
Lox don't have star ratings.
can i turn off the hud?
because of if you like swords more
i love spears, they're still so ass so much of the time, i still craft and fully upgrade them.
Ctrl+F3
Love and hate relationship with spears it seems. They are so good but damn they need more range and the downward stab is a bit wack.
Is it pronounced jotun or yotun, cause I’ve heard it pronounced either way
probably yotun, considering the english j sound is kind of just english being...english
Yeah ok
i know the german j is pronounced the same as the english y
can't vouch for scandinavian languages but i'd imagine they're closer to that than english
Yeah English is my first language, but for some reason I have a predisposition to pronounce j sounds as y sounds
had a dedicated server with g-portal, credit ran out and lost all progress, lost a year worth of building over a city i and friends build: Kattegat (4 square kilometers).
first time i enter creative building without having to farm for it, starting to build Casterly Rock from game of thrones and spawning everything back i lost with devcommands.
moral of the story, even if your server ends up crashing or corrupeted, treat it as a budist sand painting, you can always start over with the right idea.
Pfff, the joy of having firehazzard on: Running into a rancid remains on hard and shooting firearrows at him to dwindle his health.
Works better than facing him one-on-one. 🙂
i thought we never even got to see what casterly rock looked like, not from what i remember or know so far.
there are discriptions, one from george rr martin and one from the show, there is a moment in season 7 were you see it.
w00t! And he dropped a trophy. Mesa so happy. 🙂
wait until you get a staff of embers 😁
Setting the ground on fire and kiting seekers into the inferno is actually a viable tactic with fire hazards on
I'm not that far in the game, but I'll keep it in mind, Zock
Valheim humor:
You kill 5 skellies - on hard - of which one is a 1 star archer. And just when you've done that a text pops up on your screen, saying: "You are not rested anymore."
Yeah d'uh. Swinging that club is hard work.
G'dang! Those 2 star skellies hit hard
istg Gjall need to be freaking nerfed... their fire tick damage is stupid
ya luckily their projectile isnt that bad to dodge and its just 2x at a time
True but the splash area for it is freaking huge... Even with a level 3 protection staff bubble on me that crap shatters my shield like its made of sugar glass
for sure
Are you wearing the feather cape or root harnesk without barley wine? Because as long as you have fire resist the damage is pretty survivable and one or two fireballs can be tanked even with SEE food.
I go in Ashlands wearing Root Harnesk and without fire barley. I've managed to dodge those few fire dealing attacks there are.
well yeah, pretty much nothing in Ashlands actually deals fire damage. Or if it does it's easy to dodge (you basically have to try to get hit by Valk flames lol).
Also we were talking about Gjall.
True, mb.
I usually use Protection bubble.
I've gotten pretty lax about refreshing that because i don't get hit much anymore.
Yes, i expect that to bite me in the ass in the future 😂
how can i make goblins look trash? i feel like i'm not doing notable damage. I've got a tier 4 ice hammer
Any mountains weapon should be good enough, but if you get some flax you can upgrade to a plains weapon
Iron atgeir and you're chillin
You can use a bow to attack them from a distance and do some damage to them. With a good - silver - shield and Mountain tier armor you should have some decent defense as well.
And with black metal atgeir even more chill 😄
guys is one scrap iron= one iron bar?
Yep 🙂 (if you are not talking about weight)
nono just smelting
Then yes
atgeirs are probably myyy least favorite weapon type tbh
Have you tried using a bronze atgeir against a troll?
I’ve actually yet to use atgeirs, they just haven’t appealed to me as much as the other weapons. I’ll try them out someday though.
Currently doing my first full playthrough with them 😄 they are fun indeed
Oh nice! Is this the same playthrough you got lucky finding cultist trophies? Lol
Indeed it is XD (i didnt play for a little while now, i have to resume today :D)
It might have actually been beneficial that i had a break since i got a bit addicted to fenris set + ratatosk tonic 😂 this way i had time to forget how fun it is
Tfw I only discovered troll Tonic at mistlands tier
I’ve been playing off and on, me and my buddy are in the mountains right now! Finally got my cultist trophy, going to sail back some silver when my friend gets a chance to play again. Going for the Crystal battleaxe, currently have the flesh rippers as a secondary weapon 😁
I might go for flesh rippers as a mountain weapon actually 🤔 as a stepping stone between iron and bm atgeirs
They’re a lot more fun than I thought!
I don’t think I’ve ever crafted a silver knife, so I’ll make that when I’m in mountains
Oooh i did a knife playthrough up to plains quite some time ago, it was also lot of fun 😄
oh boy, i got carapace armor, and i wanted to test it out, so i decided to try and destroy a dvergr outpost without cheesing. i got absolutley MOPPED they ate me for breakfast, lunck, and dinner, they eradicated me from existance and now im sad
They may be little but Dvergr pack hell of a punch 😁
i was thinking 'oh but i got the mistlands gear, i even pre-popped bonemass and a healing mead, so i should win' (i got one kill)
What common rules should you have when getting a bunch of people together to play this game? The main one I can think of is no starting boss battles on their own. But anything else that really breaks the fun for others?
bleh
i had 4 leviathans side by side which was absolutely nuts. Touching shoulders pretty much
Thats so lucky 😄
I don't see anything on the wiki that suggests otherwise, so it seems like Fish spawns would be blocked by any overlapping area of player base
I am not sure why it would be any other way 🤔 while they are basically moving items they still have to spawn so it makes sense the stuff preventing spawning of any other mob would prevent them too
So if I decide to block some spawns in an attempt to fish with fewer interruptions, the spawn prevention area must not hit the water, or it's pointless
The best way to get more fish is to move around coastlines and not wait in one place imo
I've also found that to be the case, but I was just thinking about building some Fishing Weirs along a coast and basically meander down that coast fishing and grabbing fish that get trapped in the weir
Add this griefer to your ban list 76561198851548120 jump on my server and set 20 star wolf spawners all over the map. Had to roll it back to fix it.
Wow, is that a vanilla server?
do you have to generate new world to play the new update bog witch?
Planning on buying the game because of sale but I’m indecisive 🥲
great game. go buy
But me want friends to play game with :c
im playing this solo, and its still fun.
Eh yk what ima buy it 🫡
Nope, she will appear in a swamp that has not been discovered yet 😄
Is there a way to see things like altitude on the Valheim world generator?
You click the gear icon on top left and select "Enable Y Coordinate (Height)" then go down, press "save and close" and it will be the middle number next to your cursor 🙂
Thanks!

yoo new here, how do i join someones server i want to play with somebody
Look into #1024264966712340510 🙂 the owner needs to give you an ip/invite code and password
ohh cool, do all servers use moods i dont have
No, not all servers use mods
anyone want to invite me to server, no mods 🙂
You can also make post in #1024264966712340510 😉
Is there any talk of allowing mods on xbox
If I set tamed pigs free (about 20) do they stay in a general area or do they just wonder off slowly indefinitely?
Maybe in #mods-discussion ? Not really sure.
Mostly the first thing, but people say the wander area is pretty far and obviously they will run after non allies
They will slowly spread out, especially if they see an enemy
thank you
Was just wondering because I want an infinite army of 2* boars surrounding my base forever
Why boars?
Wait a bit and another tame will be much more suitable 😉
Thank you
funny
Oh, fair enough. They're not really great for defense but if it's just for the lols then go for it.
I would do lox, but. my base is basically in the meadows and I only get around 5 lox at a time. they will 100% get slain by a fuling raid
500 boar vs a 2 star troll
Lox are not great at base deffence since they do AOE dmg, wolves on the other hand... 😄
yeah, but I dont want wolves unless I can get a 1 or 2 *
Same, i often stay in mountains for many nights just to get them if i want to breed them
mhm
Am I able to get wolves to sit on the boat at all? no mountain in my general area
Oh yeah, they might take some dmg while sailing with them so only transport adults and keep few in the area from which you take them, just to be sure you can always breed more in case the ones you are transporting die
ah Okay
You think my best bet would be thes closest mountain near me (very likely smaller), or the largest and just risk the wolves dying for traveling a further distance?
If wolves actually spawn on the one close to you then i would try it there first
Anybody looking to play I've played solo for a bit and I have old experience 24 male
never seen the age and sex in a looking to play message before, this isn't dating my guy 🤭
was thinking the same 😭
So whats overall better for the plains, frostner or porcupine?
its already a great game even with out the sale
Yeah
IMO porcupine better for general plains play (slightly better dps, substantially better against lox) but frostner far better for yag
alright
still considering either silver sword or frostner for yagluth lol
i like silver sword for killing yag, but frostner is great for entering the mistlands with
Porcupine better for damage and against Loxen, Frostner better for crowd control for it's slow effect and against Yagluth.
so I should use frostner for village threat control, and porcupine for mostly casual/general plains gameplay?
For example, if you want to keep using 1h clubs as your main weapon.
clubs is currently my main weapons yes. But i usually bandwagon over to the next best item mace or not
Both are good during Plains. Frostner however, keeps being useful even during the next biomes after Plains too.
yeah ill keep that noted and keep it on me
I fought a soldier seeker after killing moder with frostner because the bonemass ability is really great for the mistlands lol, and I just got curious.
Yeah, Seekers are one reason why Frostner is useful there. They resist all physical damage types but take normal damage from elemental damage types, so Frostner deals bit more damage against them per hit than blackmetal weapons.
Although Soldiers have a weak point that is weak against all damage types.
ill keep that in note
I have never been very deep in the mistlands because ive just never progressed that far, but Im always way too curious lol. Ill catch myself wondering in the mist way underpowered
Let's say that Yagluth's drops help you explore Mistlands easier.
ive heard
friend accidentally spoiled it too me pretty sure
But I hope his drop isnt too useful. I like traversing the unknown mist
makes it exciting
Thanks again, this is game changing for my seed shopping.
It seems like altitude 30 is approximately sea level based on just inspecting the borders of the 'Shallows' areas on the world generator.
seems like between 20 and 30, yeah 🙂
isnt the silver sword the best weapon against yag?
Yes, but there I was comparing Porcupine and Frostner.
ok guys ill try to play full vanilla and see how it goes
i only made it past Eikhtyr full vanilla before
can i join you ?
ill pm you
Wonder if there'll be a trader npc in each biome eventually
not sure if they have that planned for 1.0 but it could be neat
I'm just not entirely sure what other stuff something like a plains, mistlands trader could sell
self host or server? im down to join too but i grind a lot ._.
self host
dm me steamid
im alright. unless you will be hosting dedicated server. gotta grind with others are offline xD thx ❤️
Paintingsssss
Home decor trader
oh true
could be like a builder's workshop guy surrounded by a birch forest in the plains
I think plains would be perfect for a home decor trader tbh considering how much of the biomes resources are used in upgrading your base
maybe he'd sell something that would let you make blackmetal nails
blackmetal is pretty abundant so using it for furniture wouldn't be too crazy
or I dunno
blackmetals screws I guess
whole other thing
Maybe something like a functional gate bridge which you can raise and lower
that would be sick
hopefully it would be big enough to fit a lox through
could be several sizes
Hello, fellow vikings!
hi :)
when i pick up pie from oven does it take my cooking skill in account or the foraging skill
That seems self explanatory
no because we are "picking up" from the oven and my cooking skill is almost 0
Cooking skill, you have a chance to get bonus pies
so dont get it how i got 2 pies from a single pick up
i had like 2 cooking skill at that point
It’s a very low chance
There's still a chance of bonus regardless of skill level
ok
Foraging from the oven, smh
yea it is possible cos we are "picking it up from the oven" its the same type of action command as foraging when we "pick up" berries, if you know a bit of programming you will understand what im talking about , many games have this kinda issues when they are in early access so just wanted to make sure no biggie
Hello people
Good afternoon
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Cooking_(Skill) here’s the wiki page for it that goes more in depth on what affects the cooking skill
Dudes is it usual to mostly play this singleplayer
Or am i missing out by not going multiplayer
You can do both.
Playing it alone will let you experience the game as it's meant to be.
Playing it with friends in co-op will let you experience the game how it can be.
Some tasks will be easier to be done, but monsters will have more HP, so killing them will be somewhat harder.
yea single/multi works equally good imo
It is a singleplayer game. Fully.
It happens to have co-op.
Source: the devs themselves.
I'm not really sure why people like two-handers. like, i get it, they look awesome, and they're so cool, but they're worse in every physical category. they don't even have a higher dps why would you use them? (i actually want to know I'm getting bored of my shields)
They used to have full cleave. No multi-target penalty. (Swords)
Currently buggered.
Atgeirs are fucking awesome though.
And Hammers is just the best crowd control in the game.
so all that just for full cleave?
If you don't understand how powerful full cleave is, I can't help you.
IMO the best crowd control is sprinting😆
Sprinting isn't really a crowd control
That isn't crowd control. That's you sprinting.
fair
Sprinting, walking, dodging, and blocking are all defensive capabilities that are reactive, crowd control is more of a proactive move
Jumping too
Swimming too. Cross river and shoot at wading enemies.
'if i were a _viking i wouldn't touch water with a 39 and a half-foot pole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are only four types of enemies that can catch a swimming viking:
- serpents (duh)
- leeches
- any blob
- loxes
Any flying mob.
I feel like some ranged enemies should get honorable mention on this list. Like spear throwing fulings
the cursed greydwarf
If Drake were ever near water, that would be a bummer. Wet and getting hit by frost projectiles with knockback
For aggro flying mobs near water/ocean, guess I'll just die (every boat cruising by a foggy plains)
Don't forget that skeletons, draugr, and ticks (at least) can cane across the bottom of the water like it doesn't exist.
If they were out of range when they start swimming, they should stay out of range. If you start swimming while in range, this is not a defensive move.
lox. WHY DO LOX SWIM!!!!!!!
Why wouldn't they?
Because they like to keep the Fuling flees out of ther fur?
Aren't they reptilian? Partially?
think that's never been confirmed but i like to believe they're something close to reptilian.
Not sure how their Class would lend much evidence to their swimming ability (or lack thereof).
Lizard + Ox is fairly conclusive.
Trying to generalize:
- All blobs swim.
- All reptiles swim, e.g. neck (or just fly).
Taxonomic class has close to zero value when determining the abilities of individual species.
Necks don't fly.
(In terms of valheim taxonomy).
I mean drakes fly (if we consider them reptilian at all)
i would say "they don't lay eggs" but they were made breedable before the first certainly egg-laying animal was added so maybe they just didn't consider an egg-laying mechanic worth implementing just for lox until chickens would've made it really awkward to birth chicks directly
How do necks breed?
via hickeys.
They don't, not ingame at least.
They can't because we can't tame them
Or do they just regrow after being sliced up?
Asksvins lay eggs so necks would probably do that too
necks grow off of a torso like a fruit
So... necks breed through decapitation?
exactly
that sentence gets more stupid each time i read it
So decapitated neck = 2 necks = 1 regrown torso + 1 regrown head?
Or does the population remain stable by only regrowing from the torso?
Since vikings only collect the heads and tails for some reason
Imagine that your chest of neck tails eventually just regrow into a swarm of necks
Greydwarves - They're mammalian, but I expect that they have some kind of sequential hermaphrodeity. Greylings are juveniles.
Trolls - Mammals... death by snu snu.
Skeletons - Necromancy
Wolves - no explanation needed.
Drakes - Best I can figure drakes are bred in a similar manner to the Surinam toad. The eggs are not theirs; Moder drops eggs on the occasions she trounces vikings that spawn her and tries to breed dragons, then pops drakes off her back as 'nest defence'.
Golems - Moder magic maybe?
Draugr - Mammals (don't get involved, trust me).
All blobs - Whatever the equivalent of full-entity mitosis is.
Leeches - no explanation needed
Fulings - Mammals
Lox - Mammals
Seekers - Obviously insects
Gjall - I feel like they're probably broadcast spawners.
Aren't greydwarves just reanimated wood and stones
they are
Would be equally as necromantic as skeletons and draugr
-# reanimated implies they were once animate
Cool cool. Elder magic for them then
-# animate wood and stones then~
What are leviathans in that taxonomy?
And I kinda figured drakes work like bees - you have the drakes themselves as drones and the queen bee being Moder that actually does all the egg laying
Well, that would explain the Greydwarves tradition of celebrating Helen's birthday.
it's implied by runestones that the forsaken are canonically present somewhere in valheim without being summoned first, though not exactly confirmed i think
I mean, the obvious is turtles (so reptiles), but their size might indicate some convergent evolution and they're actually cetaceans.
Why is nobody concerned about Gjall being broadcast spawners?!
i haven't even had breakfast yet
my brain's at 2%
-# what does broadcast spawner mean again
Confirmed that moder poops.
-# Something that creates radio stations.
some forsaken are definitely more magical than others, moder seems to be almost a normal animal
Less mutated at least, for sure.
That might be why she's called Moder...
She's more average.
Think female fish laying eggs over a broad area and then all the male fish coming in all over the place.
i like how epic drakes are depicted in the texts, and then you see the flying pool noodles
that doesn't seem too concerning considering their already strange appearance
Yeh, drakes are pretty pathetic really. It's like one of the graphic designers just locked the aspect ratio and dragged the bat image to be larger.
granted, the only female we see is moder
Does Yagluth have a sex if they don't have a bottom half?
texts always refer to yaggy with he/him and i'd imagine that doesn't come from nowhere
Yagluth was king of the fulings, became undead, no?
wich doesn't make it that much better, she looks cool but probably had too much of the funny juice from odins mead cellar
Clearly cannot poop.
least powerful forsaken
one further reason to add my suggestion where you fight his lower half as a miniboss
This is my favourite response, because it was the only one that didn't imply an "umm, ackually..."
Yagluth's legs as a vanity item like moon lord
Yagluth's Legs is the Deep North boss.
The soundtrack could be ZZ Top - Legs
oh gosh imagine how silly that'd look
plot twist: yagluth never skipped leg day, and thus his legs are incredibly strong
upgrading from dropping into valheim with a rag tunic and no pants to dropping in with a rag tunic and no flesh on your legs
So is Bonemass a blob or also another entity missing lower extremities?
imagine the savings you could make on crafting materials if you didn't need pants!
maybe there are legs under there somewhere
there are probably many legs somewhere in there
Bonemass is an amalgam of so many corpses, so yeah~
beaten me to it by 5 seconds
Bonemass is a fun anomoly. He has all the bones, including those required for legs, but chose to just envelope them into his blobic structure.
-# but clearly some sapience remains judging by the trophy dialogue
-# So it's like Congress? Many brains meet and somehow lose all sense of brain?
I read that Bonemass is a satirical personification of the average supporter of a sports team.
I think of them as Lizard Ox - Lox
same
Is the sentient component the bone or the goop?
-# that seemed more like possession by the myriad souls that bonemass was
we thought legs were the best method to walk, but a giant blob can truly corss everything
-# who's to say they're not actively there, just held against their will?
What makes you think Bonemass is sentient?
In other words, is Bonemass still Bonemass without bone or without goop?
Like a pull of bones or just a pile of goop. Is it still Bonemass?
i mean he talks to you
-# well yeah it's against their will~ and us killing it seemed to have released at least most of them
So does Siri.
If you wait a while with a Bonemass trophy in your house, you may get a message telling you that you released "us" and "they" are thankful for it.
I'd say that means they're pretty much aware.
Chinese room argument. Well played.
yea that's what i was referring to
It's more of a 'we're finally free, we're thanking you before departing forever' kinda situation, ignoring the part that the trophy will repeat the dialogue on occasion
Gameplay and story segregation
same way as it probably isn't canon that we can repeat forsaken fights
gameplay concession in case you want extra trophies or lost the item
They speak to us after decapitation the same way that dead people involuntarily contract muscles to poop?
Generally, if all the Valheim bosses are sentient, that's a pretty terrible existence. They sit in some kind of ethereal waiting room until some putz drops the right number of the correct item into a bubbling bowl, or a carved stone thing, only for them to appear and fight for their life until they get beaten to the point of having to return to their purgatorial prison.
-# what is it with y'all and poop today
i mean it's implied they're all wandering around valheim or doing something to achieve their goal
but also yea, valheim is meant to be a prison for them, punishment
Summoning the world tree from their summoning circles until you disrupt them.
How old do you reckon the magazines are in that waiting room?
Perhaps curious about it. I guess they've never replaced a diaper before. Or cleansed a baby butt after the kiddo filled up a diaper a bit too much.....
probably all about how the last veins of iron have been mined
"Giant found dead in the middle of Ginnuganap!" probably
maybe they steal some more up to date magazines from the dvergr
-# Just a bodily function that vikings do not have, but other creatures do
"Somehow, Balrog returned... as an insect?!"
"Morgen destroys another Dvergr settlement as defenders inexplicably sprint head-long into lava pit!".
oh i can picture it so clearly
"Dvergr first home owners perplexed at the cost of building with Ashwood"
"Seven Dvergr children dead as Viking stranger runs behind school picnic while being pursued by Asksvin"
so true, especially since you are being swarmed by skeletons and its a finite ressource
"Northern Lights spotted in the Ashlands after ominous bell sounds"
"Viking stranger survives insurmountable odds from charred monsters when inadvertently drawing the ire of nearby Valkyrie"
Northern lights in the south edge? That's concerning~
i've not been in ashlands since any of the balancing changes so i don't know how true that still is but gosh yea, i think in all my time there i had maybe three combat encounters that didn't involve a valkyrie
If this is true, that means the next expansion is the 'Deep South', and that feels like a very different beast.
or its the dvergr misinterpreting the ashlands bossfight
I mean, if anyone pulls aggro from a Valkyrie and they're not using that spinning attack to damage other mobs, they're missing out.
if boar get inrepted in taming, does 30 min timer reset?
Nope, just pauses
Just wait for it to calm down, and it should resume eating/taming
It will use more food though.
understood
You go, boi! Carb loading!
what other items can be used in boar time except mushrooms?
Carrots and berries
i just wished there was more variety, there's no "this fight is charred and a morgen, and this one is charred and asksvin, and every now and then you get charred and a valkyrie", it felt like every fight was just "this fight is charred, asksvin, voltures, a valkyrie and 1-2 morgen"
it's funny, it's the biome with the largest enemy variety, and yet it feels the smallest to me because you're always fighting almost all of them at once
Turnips
Yeh, Ashlands is boring to play and feels rushed to release. Grausten is a fun material to work with, but interchangeable pieces are poor, and WTF are those 'roof corners'?
Poop jokes are still funny despite being an adult.
There are also the unexplained outhouses since EA release.
Every POI has lore about it including the trees/greydwarves, boars, draugr villages, and skeletons in the caves. But the outhouses? Vikings don't poop, but someone is clearly using these structures. Discovering that Moder could poop is relevant, but Moder would not be using outhouses.
-# Equips tin foil hat
eikthyr: a magical stag that can bring down mountains with antlers sharp as steel, and and who's great thunderous running is heard across the land, ruler over all the creatures of the meadows. Moder: has a lot of babies
eikthyr: dead in 5 seconds
moder: at least 13 minute fight where you miss all the time
Valheim has me thinkin that Vikings were naturally buoyant.
where do i offer eikthyr trophy
Are you asking what to do with the Eikthyr trophy ?
Nope, 5 minutes. Look in the upper right and you'll see a little timer
It's usable for 5 mins when activate and has cooldown of 20 mins.
There are 2 timers - the one in the upper right says how much time remains for the buff, the one in the lower left is the amount of time until you can use it again.
so i have to kill the boss again to get it just for 5 mins?
No - you have the power now and can use it whenever you want.
Unless its on cool down.
oh
On top of that, you will be able to switch out the Eikthyr buff for another one later, depending at which boss you have killed.
Personally I think keeping the Eikthyr bonus until after you defeated the third boss, then switch for his buff is the best thing to do.
The 2nd boss' buff is a bit useless, unless you intend to create a large load of charcoal. Or build a lot with wood.
This sounds very frightening
how do i make my pet boar follow me
You cannot, but you can push them or set up fences and scare them with a torch
Or use an abysmal harpoon and drag them.
For 2 stars, you can use the abyssal harpoon to drag them
Boars might die to too many harpoon hits
Watch the hp
So, on the Valheim World Generator there are a lot of "Shallows", but that's not a Biome. Do y'all find that it's usually just the closest land Biome there or is is a split between that and Ocean
i had 1 star boar, i was building near the place i kept, by mistakenly destroyed fence and they ran off
Was that boar tamed by you in the wild lands?
If so, you may find it close to where you tamed it the first time.
Unless it's killed, which is also likely.
boar was tamed near my house (fencing boundary)
In that case it may not have gone too far away.
whats a good armor for the mistlands? i feel like im getting bodied
i used root harnesk and padded, then switched over to fenris helmet and greaves slowly as i got comfortable
Just make sure to carry some barley wine if you're runnin root harnesk and not very comfortable with gjalls
just fully maxed out padded
Valheim exploration:
You sail to check out several islands to become a permanent base, you return with 120 tin ore.
Everytime we say "We should make a base here to make less trips" then we're like "ugh do we haaavee tooooo?"
for me its like, ooh free tin!
Boat is the base.
That won't work for me, as I'm going to work with a main base and a portal hub under the Elder altar.
Portal hubs AKA lag factories.
You got a better solution?
4 hubs. Just rename as needed.
4 portal hubs?
And that won't generate lag?
4 portals...
Leading where?
Places
tbh most efficient it'd be to just have one portal that you keep renaming if you are concerned about lag
I usually have one portal per biome to be renamed, a boat and pocketportal and en exit portal if i get stuck somewhere with a unconnected portal 😄
never had to much lag with those..they are spread out in little houses and do not activate all at once by me running by 😄
does vram affects draw distance in this game?
No portals + immersive for most of my runs, so boat house it is
really?
With Eikthyr, Lightfoot mead and feather cape you can do the same with jumping
how abt. death run?
Jumping? You mean Catapulting Self?
Brother I already disclaimed this like a few weeks ago with a source from the devs themselves…
We still aren't related.
No.
I just don’t understand why you are so hellbent on the this is a singeplayer game with a side of multiplayer narrative
Because it is reality.
There’s literally a GDC talk where they state different
yo igod i did all hildir bosses
Let’s go
based af. i wish there was like 20+ of those
More unique dungeons would be dope which one did you like the most
Now it's time to face the one in Ashlands......
I’m not even sure I did the fight right because I was maxed plains gear and just parry stunlocked the boss with bonemass on so 🤷♂️
did that one already by accident
ah yea im just playing on vh
Ima need to try vh soon
its great but i miss parrying
Gimme like another 100 hours and I’ll maybe have beaten fader lol (on my current playthrough)
ya fader is a nice fight
can be aids if u wanna melee tho, like he gets stuck in a loop casting spells so u cant rly get close to hit him
Im most excited for 3 things in particular with Ashland’s, that being the lightning axes, flaming sword and catapults
this vid is good tho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0D50aylOaGw, from scales
Finally maxed out my run skill, first time getting a skill to 100 lol
Nice dude, how far in the game are you on that character?
I believe I just hit 70 last time I played and I’d say maybe 1/3 of the way through mistlands
Like day 680 or so? Just running around filling out some map at this point lol
holy moly 680
im day 294 on my main world where i just mess around even tho i completed game
u had that world before mistlands?
Makes me wonder what wr speedrun is tbh
Haha yeah I play a lot- this was a pre mistlands world yeah. Think queen was beat by day 350?
Day 680 is crazy tho, that’s like what 226 hours not accounting for skipping night?
I’ve seen some players with over 1000 👀
Your world must look insane
Keep in mind that building a lot does take up quite some time.
I’ll post some pictures and stuff of it later when I get on, but it’s nothing spectacular lol
Oh god my plains base has been a WIP for over atleast 80 ingame days now I’ve just been delaying the resource grind while grinding out mistlands
I think today is the day I go equip that useless elder ability
So like an average of 5 days per boss
did you guys see the new game created by runescape game dev. jagex, its runescape but valhiem. its very strange. its still in early development but i watched my friend play who knows nothing about valhiem but everything about runescape and was able to help out with my valhiem knowledge cx
Thread usually has eik down on day one 😄 and elder day 2 to 4 tops... that guy is fast... 😄
semi outdated but it's a good start for his patterns 👍 , i have more accurate flowcharts floating around somewhere
Do you have any images or link?
I’m curious too, but we should probably have the conversation in General chat 🤓🚨
I dont but I ll see if I can record my friends playing. i ll post in gen when i get more info
Anyone have any experience getting into centre tower of Fortress? Battering Ram v Digging under a corner. Also with Ram, which wall to destroy - spiked door or one of the other 3 walls? Thanks
Aren't people who are playing it under an NDA right now? You may not want to admit this in a public Discord.
You won't get in trouble for recording, but they may.
Anyone got a ETA on the new biome update?
Deep North won't be until very late next year at the absolute earliest.
😢
Why?
Bruh me and the homies wana explore something new 😢
Ok?
outside has some great biomes you should check out
I live in a warzone.....
If i go outside i bet i will get hit by a fpv drone
Or artillery
im gonna be honest
i dont think being inside is gonna stop you from being hit by artillery
🟦🟨
i have friends in both ukraine and russia, im thankful theyre all ok
i stand by my mediocre joke, though, outside got hella biomes
Yeah, but they're only got Ashlands.
Thats crazy
i havent signed any nda
but true i dont want to throw a friend under the bus
Dudes is there a plan on full release? Not complaining BTW. I dig playing the game while theyre adding stuff to it all the time
Of course there's a plan.
what's the max pop in a server in valheim?
10 in vanilla
That's a question for #mods-discussion, our main channels are strictly vanilla
anyone know any mods that add more character customization specifically the hair
Try #mods-discussion
Just wanted to say officially I'm a massive fan, ( I've clocked over 2000 hours ) I have loved the whole process, even though I have rage quitted the Ashlands on two occasions I eventually beat Fader I have a video posted on my steam if anyone is interested lol. Not sure if I'm allowed to post links here so DM me. Love all the work you guys (devs ands testers) are doing. Thank you so much for making this game!
is leather armor worth it to make or should i just run around naked until i can get troll armor?
sound like a party
im just wondering if the armor it give is enough to make any difference
from nothing to something is a difference
truthfully every single armor set makes a difference compared to the one prior (in your case prior meaning nudity) no matter how much people gripe about the upgrades not being worth a small upgrade to armor overall...
@cosmic summit it give you the armor rating before you craft it and if I'm not wrong I thing it's a % system
It's a very weird system, but if something does 100 DMG and you have 50 armor you take 50 DMG but if something does 100 damage and you have..... 75..... armor then you take like 28 damage. basically, if you have comparatively low armor, it's base damage minus armor, but every armor point more than half of attack base damage is worth less and less.
Quoting the fandom: If armor is less than half of raw damage, health lost = damage - armor. But if armor is more than half of the damage, health lost = (Damage/(Armor*4))*Damage.https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Damage_mechanics#Armor
Bro I’ve looked everywhere for turnip seeds in the damn swamp WHERE ARE THEY HELP.
anybody looking to start a world at a weird time like this? I've got hella beer
they're easy to miss, especially at night
Especially when I’m being chased by 6 draugr, 2 elites, and 3 leaches
welp, there's a reason most people seem to quit at the swamps 😄
nothing really gives me the adventure feeling like sailing in a storm while listening to outer wilds "the river"
My favorite part is dying at sea actually
I laughed when I saw your pfp because that cat is making the exact face I thought in my mind when reading that text 😂
it be how the beer got me lookin
🍻
Morgen gjall.
How do I find troll more easily, I only could found him once in Black forest
Troll caves for example, found around Black Forest.
troll caves. Go mining for copper at night. Or if you're in the swamp the love potion from the bog witch.
I couldn't find any ores in Black forest
is there some kind of trick to the love potions? I used one while running through the bf and only 1, 1 star troll spawned in the entire 5 min period
just keep looking, tin is found along water in the black forest and copper has a chance to generate anywhere
Copper looks like giant green rocks, you've definitely seen them theyre impossible to miss. It will also say "copper deposit" when you look at them
Tin is shiny and only spawns near water, so run along the coastline and you'll find it
Neither of them are rare at all
What Armor level is recommended to explore black forest? I get crowded and eventually have to run away from that place, I'm at Armor 10
Copper ore might at first look like a gaint stone and you might have missed it because of that.
Also most of the copper is found underground, mine the earth with the antler pickaxe since you can fix it on a workbench when it breaks and use better pickaxes on the copper.
It should be doable in the gear you used to beat eikthyr with.
Eh, my perception of armor is pretty skewed since i use light armor from like 3 biomes behind.
If you can get a full troll hide set thats plenty imo
wtf is a love potion what update did i not play
Bog witch, sells ingredients to make new meads.
Found in the swamp.
guess it’s time to boot up my save and find some new swamps
Start fresh, so all swamps are new?
Hello, fellow vikings
I can get that sentiment.
I’ve not found a use for the love potion yet, seems to give 1 troll every use so it’s not a good money making method
maybe the joke is that love potions are a waste of money
Are there any French players?
I'd imagine so. Take a look in #1024264966712340510
Good morning! Does the number of players in the world influence the difficulty?
To a degree, yes.
enemies gain 4% more damage and 30% effective health for every player within 100 meters of that enemy
up to 5 players
Thank you very much, I've had this question for a long time
Listen to the birds. They are reliable source of information. 🙂
I don't think either of them mention that.
Finally crafted the seal-breaker, after work I’ll be heading over to the queens fortress and making my final preparations, can’t wait to try her for the first time
You can enter it, but don't go to the upper floor, as she's already spawned.
The only boss you don't have to summon
Going with a melee set up, frostner and himmin afl, lvl 3 carapace, lvl 4 root harnesk, major healing pots, lingering stamina, ratatosk and contemplating crafting up some berserker meads and obviously taking bonemass ability
himminafl can be difficult to use since a lot of the arena is stairs
also i'd suggest packing some bile bombs if you have spare bile bags, they're very useful for dealing with the adds.
That’s a good idea I’ve still not tried them so I just have all the bile bags I’ve collected so far sitting in a chest
Demolisher goes off club ability?
Yes, 2h hammers use Clubs skill
hmm might consider crafting one up but I believe it takes iron right?
You probably have higher clubs skill lvl as you carry Frostner I bet.
Yes.
yeah, quite a lot of it too
I currently have about a farts worth of iron in my chest so I’ll skip it this time
But your setup seems good enough. Bilebombs, as mentioned, are good to carry too.
I’ve got clubs at 62 and atgeir at 41
I suggest carrying some Tasty meads for quick stamina regen boost.
That’s a good idea
I’m thinking then I get to the top where it’s flat and go all out then jump down and use tasty meads while I’m untouchable in the air
pretty much the way to go for melee. The option to just jump off when you need a breather is invaluable.
hi who wants to start a new world with me
You may find someone if you ask in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
thankyou!
yw
do dvergr forget that you stole from them, at some point ?
If they're angry, they'll stay that way until you kill them
Probably.
A few ways to deal with dvergr, without making them angry:
- Ram a cart repeatedly into stuff till it breaks, and pick up what was dropped.
- Scatter refined eitr arround and it will also damage stuff and maybe even kill some dvergr for you.
- Get a pufferfish and toss it against dvergr, the dvergr will die eventually.
- Kite a gjall, soldier or seekers to them and let them battle it out, also doable with lox if close to the plains.
nice thanks
I asked wrong question 😅, is there anything better than knife for caves/mobs in black forest, I feel my attacks are bit weak
Club / mace will work well against skellies for sure. I think axes / swords / knifes should work better against Greydwarves (personal opinion), but not everyone agrees with that.
club for skellies, spear or bow for everything else
You can't go wrong with the finewood bow, clubs are fine as well.
If you make a karve and venture out to sea with a pickaxe you can find sea creatures that have barnacles and you can make a really great knife.
Also good to have is the buckler and learning how to parry, with the right combination of foods you can basically stagger any mob in the black forest and tear into them with the knife.
if you're having trouble with getting surrounded try the atgeir, it's basically a "get out of melee free" card
Spear is excellent choice for melee against Trolls and Greydwarves.
Spear is great through much of the game. I don't replace mine until Mistlands.
i replace mine every couple of secondary attacks
Lol I've lost a few yeeting in the mountains
Algume BR?
English server.
I'm weird because I almost never throw mine 😄
Any battleaxe enjoyers in chat?
Wish the first attack was like... 0.2s faster but yeah.
I throw mine typically at melee range. Less chance to lose it. However, throwing in player groups is a fun experience. "Here bud have a spear"
Playing "fetch" with friends instead of a dog / wolf.
Well, that's a way to play the game, I s'pose.
Don't knock people actually playing the game.
first night in new save: 13 greydwarf train chasin me
Congo
Conga.
the stat diff between biomes is ridiculous
I went back to swamp for bloodbags with a blackmetal tower shield
I'm immortal
I just lift the shield and I'm immortal
2 star draugr? no problem, 1 star elite? no problem
abomination? melted with a black metal knife while it was still standing up
"player groups" and "a fun experience"
🤢
You bring gear from two biomes higher to an area and are surprised it's so much better?
Never paid attention to what the monsters from a higher biome did in the lower biomes?
welllll blackmetal stuff is from a higher tier biome soo yea sounds about right destroying everything at the swamp
Fact check:
The latest dev blog contains LIES
Really?
Explain?
We have only had about 3 days of snow in skövde this winter
in the blog they claim "its getting cold and snowy here in our northern part of the world"
that referring to skövde, the resident city of the studio
the lie is the "snowy" part
do better irongate tsk tsk
Does this relate to the game at all?
And what if the day that blog is posted - which is actually shown - it was getting cold and snowy?
That means it wasn't a lie at the time, but that the future only caught up with what was written at the time.
Let me fact check that for a sec
Well we have had much snow so that part is true to me.
blog came out on December 18th, the last snow from what I remember melted 1-2 weeks prior
Also, 'our Northern part of the world' doesn't just mean the town their office is in.
Also also, holy shit have we got better things to be talking about?
Lapland is always snowy at least.
I think you are taking this too seriously
Also, if the line is based upon the weather reports, keep in mind they're not predictions, but expectations.
And - as a saying goes - "nothing is as unpredictable as the weather".
You're the one that just fact checked the weather from 3 weeks ago 😕
It's all in my memory lol
anyway I just thought it was funny since this christmas season has been pretty warm and non snowy
You are aware that calling a studio "liars" based upon a line in their blog which may be based upon weather expectations can be considered as slander?
Some studios may consider going to court over that, as you harmed their reputation.
-_-
nice, thanks
I just find the difference absurd
Yes of course it's from a higher biome, gee, thanks, I didn't noticed
It's just ridiculous how op you become and how irrelevant anything belows that level becomes, same way up
is bro for real 😮
Not to mention you're being ridiculous but you don't just sue someone in sweden, that's super rare
Like every other progression based game? If that didn't happen, I'd be concerned
lmao they're not gonna sue some random discord user like that
I know some people have a lot of PTSD from multiplayer experiences. I've had mostly positive from playing Valheim with others.
I SEE THROUGH THE LIES OF THE JEDI!!
Perhaps. But I'm genuinely having fun in most servers I've jumped in. Almost all from lfg posts here or on Reddit
It's fun with close friends. We've had many hilarious moments together, especially when we were quite new to the game back then lol.
idk how but i still managed to get lost in an island LOL
using the valheim-map.world can you see ore locations?
Nope
You can for ashlands and you can see swamp crypts for iron, but other than that nope
am i ready to fight the queen? i have lvl 3 full carapace set, mist hare supreme, honey glazed chicken, mushroom omlette, lvl 3 mistwalker and carapace buckler, feather cape, and 100 bombs. anything else that i should get before i fight her?
vaugeish spoilers
Stam and health meads cant hurt, as well as ratatosk tonic 😄
oh yeah, i forgot abt the poison meads too
One AoE weapon can be helpful too, like Demolisher or Himminafl, but bombs are good too.
JD
Are there any chances on the animations changing a bit for the weapon attacks because i despise the fact that I cant hit certain creatures sometime due to a height difference
thank you, just saw the answer now!
do crops refresh if you're not around? i keep seeing them grow up right as i portal in
That's probably render(?) you're experiencing. Crops will grow while you're away as far as I can tell
Yep, their grow timer continues going and they just update their looks when you load the area 🙂
So is that render or do we call it something else. Just for accuracy
I am not really sure about the correct term
someone has a server i can join?
I used to play multiplayer. Stopped recently. I'm gettin grumpy in my old age/less tolerant. I'm either carrying others or getting bossed about. So I solo now.
So real

friends, what is the best HHS food in Ashlands?
Anybody know of good ways to farm ooze from the Blobs?
This: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Food#Ashlands
Also, why asking the same question in two channels 8 minutes apart?
Once would've been enough.
Am usually pretty tolerant tbh. I think its because am just gettin old. When you've co-oped in games online sinced 1997? My patience is getting thinner.
my bad i was a little rushed
@toxic hinge I doubt it's that. It's more likely because at your age you're used to "work" for your items, while today it's more like: "I want it all and I want it now!".
So while you're used to play easy, check everything and make sure you're well prepared, younger generations like to rush in half prepared and then complain about things being "poorly balanced".
Been there, done that, still haven't got the T-shirt.
🤔
I know the feeling.
I rather play multiplayer alone, and then meet up with people ingame to do things together 😄
I have a question, how does valheim handle many structures nowdays? when i played it last time it was getting laggy only after having a couple of medium size buildings. And my computer is very highend
When did you last play? The Hildir’s Request update improved the performance of large structures.
I quit like 1 month after that update got released.
It might be a little better now but I’m not sure because I don’t build much
"A couple of medium size buildings" is quite subjective.
same as before
we have improved alot with it
but since we don't have a cap, you can still build until you hit 1 FPS 😄
Haha alright, can it be improved further? i'm assuming its not a priority for the developers
<-- developer
Was just speaking from experience with other game developers hehe
😄
I spent like 2 weeks with one of our programmers. just breaking fixing, breaking, fixing things until it became better without breaking stuff 🫡
so 2024 version can handle more build pieces than 2021 version could
or it uses less of your CPU power than it use to
Yeah, i assume its not an easy issue to fix, i've been asking ( Rust ) developers for years to try and improve with no success
it's easier to help you fix your PC's performance 😄
so many people run there PC's stock
Yeah, not gonna overclock.. I'm currently using rtx 3080 and i5-12600K
RAM?
32 GB
speed?
ctrl+alt+del -> activity handler program -> performance tab -> memory
to see speed
alot of people never enabled XMP / EXPO
Kingston Fury 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL
i sent you a screenshot in dms
kk
this is so off topic but this reminded me of how the virus started in the dying light game series lol
made it, destroyed it, made it and it destroyed them instead
"I've been asking devs to improve things for years."
How do you suggest we improve it?
"BY IMRPOVING IT OF COURSE"
Ok but how?
"Just make it better, duh."
You forgot the: "You're the developers, not me." before the "just make it better, duh". 😉
I mean..
I find it to be a valid thing to ask for
You don't work in the office, don't be silly.
oh fudge
you're right
I work from HOME office
There's asking.
Then there is asking repeatedly without ceasing for a quoted period of "years" and just expecting it to be done without any knowledge of how to do it.
🤷♂️
I protecc my Smiffe 💛
yo whos down to play ive been trying to find somone to play wiht for days hmu if you wanna play
Bruh every time I approach the queen my laptop crashes on me
Well I’m outta time today I’ll have to fight her tomorrow
I, for one, I'm still surprised how good the game runs. I have a 2.7 GHz i7, a GTX 950M, and 16 GB of RAM, on friggin' Linux, and I can still run the game at a decent framerate, no stuttering, at medium-high graphic options. No performance mods, no exotic launch commands. All I had to do was compare the native version with the OpenGL version to see which one performed better.
I don't have many comparisons because I don't play many games, but it still feels like Valheim offers the most while not stressing out the whole system like other games do. I'm impressed.
Game runs fine, ashlands can use some optimization

THANK YOU VERY MUCH
is there a way to make wolves sit so i can better transport them via boat?
You can make them stay by clicking on them, but they will still aggro if you go too near mobs and yeet themselves off the boat.
ah okay
i just noticed that making them stay everywhere else makes them still walk around
didnt want them to just walk off the boat
I brought 3 of my like 10 wolves to a skeleton surprise raid, they all died :(.
I now know that I would like a 1* wolf and 2* if possible
How do yall dodge the father stone AOE?
I've never enjoyed valheim combat enough to get good at it, but I've heared people say its possible to learn the patterns and dodge everything, similar to other games I enjoy much more.
I'm working on stuff, so ping on reply.
is it bad that in my friends server we are at day 1167 and we still havent fought bonemass and we have 4 bonemass locations
what the hell have yall been doin
farming, exploring, mining
valid I suppose
and im the only one that knows how to beat bonemass and my friends dont want me to spoil it
Is it a server where the days keep passing even when everyone is offline or something?
If no one is online, the time stands still
Depends.. Are you enjoying the game, then not.. If getting bored with it, then defeat him and get all new possibilities to progress further in the game
I relate to this, had a 2 person server almost that many days in when we killed Bonemass and Moder
I just defeated the queen.. Reading the stories about Ashlands and no way I am going there yet
My Friend who is the owner of the server just grew like 850 something Onions tonight
While i was Adventuring Around the map
I recently just found Yagluths location and Bog Witch location in the same day
Yagluths location is pretty elusive if you dont look at the valheim map seed generator site
not really
you are very likely to find his spawn before finding the thing telling you where the spawn is
The Yagluth i found is Near Mistlands
Which is quite far from Spawn island
My friends server spawn island just has Meadows, Blackforest, 2 Mountain biomes, Haldor and thats it
Its Small
We Have like 5 Bases on the Island
Ashlands was more brutal before, it has been balanced afterwards and is in better state now, but it can still be brutal if not prepared. Munin warns you about warfare so that's what will be expected.
So, take your time and prepare your best foods, meads, upgrade your gear, gather some materials for necessary structures etc. When you get close to the border of Ashlands, place a portal leading to base in nearby island for backup before entering in case things go south. When you get inland try secure a safe spot quickly before trying to get deeper.
Good fortune!
My friends forbid portals
glad to hear i survived brutal ashlands
My Friend has a Reasonable excuse to forbid portals he says it takes the fun out of Adventuring the Oceans
i like oceans but i wouldn’t completely forbid portals i don’t really wanna sail every time i want to check farms
One thing my friend doesnt know is that Barley and Flax can only be farmed in the Plains
That's quite admirable. I haven't tried and probably wouldn't without portals tbh. But no portals is easy to set up from world modifiers.
Most of the time Haldor aint on the Starter island on my singleplayer worlds so i have to use portals
On my friends server world Haldor is on the starter island
I mean, you can change world modifiers in each individual world and your friend can too (for no portals setting for example). So changing world modifiers in one world won't affect to other worlds, just to clarify.
I'll take it slow for sure... Will go for Hildirs quest first I think..
Hey Guys! I'm new here...
May I know what is the best attack build(I'm at Mistland level now.)
Are magic weapons good than physical ones?
That's your call. Hildir's quest dungeons can be fun sidetrack after Queen. Completing them will grant more merchandise from Hildir.
What weapons do you like using?
I like Clubs.. Frostner! But just now unlocked Magic weapons & tring fire one!
Frostner is very good in Mistlands, thanks to the frost damage which Seekers don't resist, plus slowing effect.
Do you like other weapons? All weapon types can be viable in Mistlands, it depends on the user.
on normal difficulty, id say magic is about the same as melee
Magic is good in Mistlands too, both Ember and Frost staves deal good damage.
if mobs have been in water, they are weak to frost dmg from ur frost staff
Magic unlocks a new playstyle which some people find easier than melee.
frostner is great and still great in last biome if u have enough club skill
otherwise, a similar weapon id recommend is mistwalker (sword)
no knockback on that tho
Ok I thought there may be some OP builds (combination of armor+weapon+meads+food) like other games have...
Some players like light armor (like Fenris) for more speed and they rely more on their stamina and not getting hit, some players like using heavy armor and more HP to tank better. Then some people like the mage playstyle. All playstyles are viable in this game.
OP melee weapons: frostner, himminafl, mistwalker, lightning dual axes, demolisher (for specific situations), lightning slayer, bow + high bow skill
OP mage weapons: protection staff, staff of the wild, staff of embers, trollstav
ok thanks.. I like Fenris set.. But I use Root Harnesk to avoid piercing damage(specially to handle Ticks & Deathsquito).
yea good picks
Root Harnesk is very useful armor piece.
Root Harnesk, Fenris legs and Carapace helmet in Mistlands is good mix of movement speed and bit tankiness against pierce.
also i recommend even if ur gonna play melee, keep some eitr for protection bubble since its just free budget godmode
thanks @cosmic igloo & @tacit crystal
np
Yeah, to mention: if you keep meleeing, don't sleep on Himminafl! Its secondary attack is very good for handling groups of enemies even during the next biome.
on normal difficulty any type of weapon you are good at using is good enough, especially with high skill lvl.
yea but u can still distinguish between those. like staff of the wild, staff of embers, himminafl u can kill stuff and not even put urself in danger
but ya u can beat the game with anything basically
so in that way the game is balanced
trying to spear the swamp blob to death sure does take forever though
yep
Gotta take note on enemy resistances and weaknesses to deal with them more efficiently.
but we're also saying that all weapons in the same tier is kinda "same"ish
Carrying different weapon types is generally a good idea.
Club, axe and bow are the "minimum" for those who want to minimize the amount of weapons and cover all physical damage types. But every people enjoy different things.
Since when? 👀
Hi guys, newbie here. I'm trying to undermine a massive Copper Deposit, but i can't get any deeper under it. Any tips?
There is a limit to how deep you can mine. You can't undermine every deposit.
Since always? 🤔
No?
Have been recommending against carrying multiple weapons for years and others have also done the same.
Gets brought up almost every "inventory sucks" discussion.
Of course one can carry only one weapon, but then they can have hard time dealing with mobs that resist the damage type they deal with the weapon they chose.
Clarifying: my issue lies with your use of the word "generally" in the initially quoted statement.
personally, i spear until i hit the swamp, then it's mace to frostner, but i think on my next playthrough i might switch to a sword
Not native speaker so don't see issue with the word.
It switches the meaning from how it can be a good idea to it being a good idea in most cases.
I agree it can be good to do in certain contexts.
I do not agree it is generally a good idea.
Okay, that was in context of my following sentence where I stated the minimalistic way to cover all damage types. That's what I meant.
you forgot about one thing- if you use only one, or at most 2 weapons, your skills are way higher, so at the end its no difference, if you switch the weapon, or not
True, skills play some part of the damage. But even with higher skills if mob resist the damage you deal it can still be ineffective and slow. Take something like clubs or spears against Abomination for example.
Anyone play on the steam deck?
