see above, the game makes regular autosaves you can restore. Just be aware that world and character are saved and restored separately
so do I roll back my world or character
my corpse is gone
you could restore just the character to where you still have the gear on you, but i generally just do both to avoid any mistakes
Because if you for example restored a character save from before taking your level 4 staff of frost out of a chest but didn't restore your world that staff is gone and instead you now have another black metal pickaxe you'll never need.
The reason behind the crash is important to figure out tho ๐ค
well, I restored the back ups. and I lost an hour of progress... but at least I have my stuff..
for me it was on PTB so i had backups for my backups anyway
could be alot worse
Valheim is a deceptively stressful game
Mostly only when you play it for the first time.
Once you know what to expect in each biome, it becomes less stressful and somewhat easier.
I feel like I'm never going to not feel stressed by the potential to have to do a long corpse run
Would you like a "Pro-tip"?
Are you able to mine an area out under the Altar of the Elder?
Setting up portals before you go into something dangerous is a good habit to get into
sure but it seems kinda pointless since he's dead
No, it isn't.
You can build portals there, with one leading to your main base.
Include one portal without a name to that, carry the materials for a portal with you or in your boat and drop that portal the moment you get somewhere.
Like next to the crypt you're working in to get iron; things like that.
If something happens you only need 2 portal jumps to get back to the last area you were in.
Bonus to that place, the fire bowl you use to sacrifice the ancient seeds in, also work below the "floor".
So the moment you stand close to that, you will get a rested bonus, as that "floor" works as a roof for you.
Also the Elder altar is indestructible. Since portals count as player base items they can trigger raids, which is something you very much don't want near your fragile mass of portals with dozens of tags you have to redo if they get destroyed.
makes sense
It's most likely one of the most used methods by players for a portal hub. And a very useful one if you start using signs behind or next to the portal to show where it's heading to.
And to make it even easier, you can assign colours to those signs too, giving you an idea about how dangerous the area the portal leads to is. Like green is peaceful (meadows, spawn), Yellow is somewhat dangerous (like close to Haldor), Orange is moderate dangerous (like black forest in general) and red is very dangerous (like the Swamp).
The further you progress, the easier a previous biome gets, so all you need to do is to change the colour of the sign to know what you will encounter in day time.
Night time is somewhat different because of the spawns after you killed a boss, but you will be able to handle that as well over time.
uh, what's that last part about
black metal is like the easiest metal to get lol
It gets delivered to your doorstep basically ๐
mhm
Salve
Define easiest
dont need a special item to find it, they come from raids, enemies that drop them are very easy to kill, can see clearly during day and knight where fulings are, there is camps everywhere for them which also include chests. etc
theres just black metal literally everywhere, filled to the brim in the plains
you especially dont have to go digging for it
"very easy" with later tier gear mayhaps yes lol and well you don't need a special item you do have to progress to a certain point to really use it but i wouldn't say its faster to get
By the time you're ready to fight them iron is extremely quick to get
Also its the most useless metal
You can get through most of the game without ever touching it
Silver
I don't think the devs understood how op mountain weapons were compared to their progression but id rather use frostner than anything black metal
Silver is far from useless
What is it needed for? The pickaxe?
Extractors, refinery, galdur table
Yea but again you're not going into the plains with just iron it makes the most op weeapons until mistlands
Which is literally 1 camp of black metal
I am so?
I'm talking in terms of progression, blackmetal is much more necssary than silver in terms of progression. Silver is completely skippable
Over frostner?
yeah im a knife/shield guy
Yea its skippable sure but thats a little meta gaming the progression
The fun is for me at least going through all the biomes and building stuff
Skipping content so i have less to play is asswards to me
Also draugr fang is just fun to use
I love my bows
Also don't you need silver for a wisp light
Or am i miss remembering
you can explore the mistlands without the wisp light just fine
I just did it a few days ago and i thoroughly enjoyed it so idk
You enjoy meta gaming which is cool
why did u do it withouw wisp on purpose?
no boss run
i see
Meta gaming speedrunning the game challenges who knows
Challenge it seems
what do you even mean by meta gaming lol
Making a meta of the game
there is no meta in valheim
Min maxing the game
i absolutely do not do that lol
Theres meta in every game
anyone know how to connect to a dedicated server if I am using a VPN?
Friend is using crossplay for his dedicated server, but we tried turning it off and the server failed to start.
Fair enough. My main thing is yeah silver can be skipped but all the cool weapons use silver
Even himminafl no?
I'd say the cool weapons are in the ashlands/mistlands but okay ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Ehhh idk see i wasnt as impressed as other people drynwyn is nice but
Sword but BLUE
Spear but GREEN. Idk it just wasnt like blow my socks off its cool dont get me wrong but even their stats are underwhelming
I really like the combos they enable. What you can do for a lot of enemies is root them with a green, then go ham with lightning. I also think (while they are op), magic weapons are fun to use and the coolest
i think you mentioned all the cool silver weps, draug bow and hammer. everything else in nothing special no?
Mistlands did have cool stuff humminafl uses silver though mistwalker was a less cool frostner the demolisher was awesome having krom as a weapon is a cool reference
Mistwalker is the better frostner tbh
i like the porky
In terms of stats
sure yes
I even like the silver sword theres not a mountain weapon i dont like
Idk i like a frost hammer mechanically the knockback is nice
yeah I guess black metal weps are boring. I jsut prefer them because of better stats as the silver bonus dmg doesnt work on living creatures:/
Thing is is the atgeir is a better control weapon than the frostner so idk ๐คทโโ๏ธ
i basically skip blackmetal and use it for shield and the chests
Frostner is just a jack of all trades that thing was usable even in the plains
Same the only weapon i like is the pork but it looks fun
frostner is usable through mistlands until you mistwalker or magic - the weird thing is the mistwalker has higher stagger
Mistwalker is the immediate upgrade
No denying i just think it doesnt look as cool
I used it for awhile because it's also fun in its own right
yah, a brighter light on it would be cool
my problem is i don't think swords are good until silversword, so my sword skill is always low
Nah i wanted it to drip with frost
my problem is swords are not cool until krohm
swords are amazing idk
so I start 2 handing lvl 0 xd. 2 swings and im outta breath
all one handed swords have no multi hit penalty
guys do you know which dedicated server services are dependable? reccomend any?
dedicated server still runs a p2p connection, so you can host it on your own computer just fine
Swords are pretty powerful throughout the entire game imo
i just fine maces much more utilitarian, especially against starred mobs
the stagger, knockback and then frostner slow is fun
Maces are super solid as well. On my main character, I main both weapon types.
Frostner is super fun, yeah. Really good looking weapon too.
on hard mode, with no portals, no map, i just found that maces, especially frostner, helped keep me alive more often
Pretty much why i use them
^ this
i mean if you're playing on hard/vh atgeirs are pretty much the way to go
No portals is masochistic
Yea because of stagger spam but not any fun
it's not bad up until mistlands where you're doing a lot of separate crafting
I love me some stagger simulator
On normal mode, I feel like swords are a bit better than average
๐คทโโ๏ธ maybe the devs should've made some better difficulty sliders rather than just increasing numbers
That cleave is just too good
Agreed i think hard mode should make mobs inherently harder to escape or even enemy swamping is fine
New attacks/animations/feints would be the way to go, but that's a lot of effort
At that point just make it standard
normal valheim, after you play hardmode, is a cakewalk
Just give them different attacks
have you played v rising
Have them be different speeds but look the same
yah, i got to dracula, but couldn't beat him ๐ฆ
Increase parrying reward
I would even go as far to say that mixing up where enemies can spawn could be interesting. Wolves in the BF at night, seekers in the swamp, etc
hmm that's somethin to think about, don't see irongate doing that tho
Hell no
I already dont like shit Spawning wherever after you beat a boss
The charred spawning willy nilly at night until you beat fader is gross
No they Still do
That's just raids the raids are even worse
They don't even drop anything good
Charred spawn naturally before you beat Fader? I thought it was just after? (Minus raids I mean)
It's only after you kill him
Any dedicated servers for xbox?
Surely some in #1024264966712340510 ๐
I don't understand maces. Every time I use them, the swing speed is so slow that I get hit at the same time as striking other enemies. If it misses, enemies get several free hits on me. Is there a trick to it?
The have the same speed as swords tho ๐ค they are by no means slow
Is the hitbox the same?
This doesn't sound right because the swings feel very different
Although I also don't use swords often
Swords also connect their combo far more often while mace is good for a single swing
Anyone that connect 3-hits in a row with a mace, what is the trick?
Really, you just have to Parry/dodge the enemy then hit em with da mace
Hold the button...
I feel like sometimes the enemies fly out and sometimes I can get a three hit combo, I think it's because they go way back if you stagger them
The enemy flies back and they swing forward to connect to you
That's just bad luck, and bad timing
The difference with maces is they have large knockback, that might cause you to spend time chasing after them when they fly away thus getting you less hits
So it is exactly the same as a sword swing?
Yeah the attack speed is the same
Weird because it doesn't feel like it
The cleave doesn't hit the same
The hitbox is exactly the same with the attack extending to the hilt for some reason?
The hitboxes are different, yes
and the swords are apparently a bit slower, just a tiny bit tho
Iron sword: 55 slash 40 knockback. Iron mace: 55 blunt 90 knockback
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Bronze_sword
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Bronze_mace
you can compare them here if you want
So maces have the smaller hitbox? By visual inspection
Oh yeah, sword has a much better hitbox here
Comparison of range:(do note that swords can cleave through multiple enemies while maces incur a damage reduction) Sword(primary) 2.4 sword(secondary) 2.6 Mace(primary) 2.4 mace(secondary) 2.4
Sword secondary attack (lunge) is .2 units bigger, but otherwise the weapons are identical
Quote the hitbox data too
Mace secondary is 2,5 and sword secondary is 2,7 ๐
?
Bronze sword hitbox.
2.4 range, 90 angle, 1.0 height, 0.5 ray, no multitarget penalty
Bronze mace hitbox.
2.4 range, 90 angle, 0.8 height, 0.3 ray
Those are not the same.
They are similar.
Morgen gjall.
the hitbox also doesn't account for the forward step you make as part of the attack does it?
because that's a big part of mace secondaries reach
It should do
Advance merry Christmas to all โ๐ป
Happy holidays.
u2
All one handed clubs have the same range ๐
hello i just bought the game, i built a little base near the spawn area, im having problems with the troll enemy, does any1 know how to avoid him without him coming near my base?
Killing him is definite way to prevent him come near your base.
i tried that
what weapons do i get to kill him
Bow is probably best bet for new player such as yourself ๐
ok ill try getting one thx
Bows are safer option. They are weak against pierce and take more damage when aimed to the head.
ty for advice
Keep in mind that only few enemies have weak spot like that (i believe only 3 in the whole game currently) so for majority of time you are fine with shooting to any part of the body. ๐
ill take my time exploring the game and figure out some stuff myself
That is the best way to play imo ๐
gonna do a sword playthrough on vh but im thinking when would i start heavily using it? because im just thinking "why would i use anything else but atgeir until mistwalker?"
like is there anytime before mistwalker where you'd prefer sword over atgeir?
Buckler (in mountains and plains round shield) and sword combo is awesome, i dont necessarily prefer one over the other, they are both great just at slightly different things ๐
ive done maybe a handful of vh runs now and i just find myself using the atgeir lol because the spin just nullifies everything
well hell no im using shield on vh xD
Oh yeah, on vh i cant advise much ๐
its sad, i love parrying things :/
is there a way to dispose of broken tools?
i have a pile of those just dropped on the floor lol
Either leave them far from base or throw in ocean or wait until you get to swamp+find trader in black forest, you will get a "trash can" ๐
alr ill drop them in the ocean thanks
If those tools are crafted by you, you can repair them at a workbench. Forge for metal tools later.
Same goes for armor, you can repair that at a workbench.
No need to drop them in the ocean far away from you.
Oh, my brain is slow today, i though they were talking about old tools ๐
ohh okiay thanks
i wish there was a poll about people's food preferences
since most food are hp or stamina based, do y'all go for 3hp food, 2hp/1stam, 1hp/2stam or 3 stam foods?
Depends where I am and what I'm playing.
mage: start of biome: 2 eitr, 1 hp --> later on in the biome with better gear, 2 eitr, 1 stamina
bow: 2hp, 1 stam --> 1 hp, 2 stam
melee: 3hp --> 2hp, 1 stam
Building and chilling in base: any food that I have leftovers from that has at least some stamina.
meadows: raspberries (S), honey (S), cooked deer meat (H)
black forest: cooked deer meat (H), boar jerky (B), honey (S)
swamp: sausage (H), boar jerky (B) or cooked deer meat (H), honey (S)
mountains: sausage (H), wolf jerky (B), honey (S)
plains: sausage (H), wolf jerky (B) or honey (S), cloudberries (S)
and past that i haven't settled into any habits yet
Hi so I'm new to Velheim and i would want to play with someone so i can understand the game better
#1024264966712340510 Is the place to find other Valheimians to play with.
Browse at your leisure or post something yourself.
Thank you
i usually play 1h & shield up through swamp with HHS then switch to HSS once i get Fenris in the mountains & plains. In the Mistlands i switch to SEE once i get bubble and ember staff and to EEE for Ashlands (though i might go with FEE now that feasts are a thing, haven't been to Ashlands past-bog witch yet).
Does blocking with a shield block 100% damage vs blocking with anything else?
Blocking gives you additional armor (you can read that stat on the weapon/shield you re blocking with)
If you parry, you get a bonus to that armor (the multiplier is also in the stat list)
Hm
Im in the bronze age, whats the best approach to kill trolls? Especially in troll caves
Parry is a perfect timed block
Just right click before their attack
I like to walk up to their face, and just parry em
A normal shield or a buckler works fine, just get used to the timing and parry, ez win
Or dodge, it takes more time but is "safer"
idk if you can parry trolls with bronze stuff
Parry with Bronze buckler and use spear after, or use atgeir secondary attack and regular attacks when it is staggered.
also tbh i was way too scared to try to parry with bronze
Bronze buckler has enough armor when parrying.
If you know how to parry, you can 1v1 everyone in Valheim
But huh, gl when 2, or 3 or more enemies show up lmao
You def can
You can parry troll with flint stuff
Is atgeir only bronze?
there are 3 more after that ๐
There are other atgeirs too which are better than bronze.
Which one is the best, black one?
Himminafl
i litterally only remember the bronze one
Bronze, iron, BM and himminafl ๐
was about to say i think iron has one but im not sure
There are less atgeirs in game than some other weapon types but they are still quite strong weapon type.
Im currently bronze, how fast can i obtain black metal?
I assume i need to find new biome, plains and then kill a bunch of goblins
But i also need the blast furnace
I would not do that, you will probably get one shoted by pretty much anything
and for blast furnace you need to kill 4th boss
Oh....
yea if you're new just progress linearly or how you say
i need to say it
shotted or shoted isnt a word!
I got a brunch of bronze today, planted carrots etc, what should be my next move?
Just go through normal progression ๐ meadows>black forest>swamps>mountains>plains>mistlands>ashlands>deep north
kill next boss
What do i do in swamps tho, there's just sucking poisonous fishes and bog trees, idk what to do there
I am playing "not my first language" card ๐
oi
Shot is the past tense of shoot
you cant past past tense shot
in some swamps, there are buildings that have green torches in front of them, look for that
and i would like to state that english was infact my third language i learned
in fact
it is in fact not a past tense of a past tense
uhh alright anyway merry christmas m8
happy holidaysss~
Only 4 of them ๐ There are also 7 axes (+2 two battle axes), 7 one handed clubs (+3 two handed), 7 swords (+2 two handed), 6 spears and 7 knives ๐
Yeah, battleaxes are criminally undernumbered
Yeah, i really hope deep north will introduce 1 of each weapon type ๐
As are fistweapons.
You forgot the two types of bombs we have. As well as the 6 bows and 2 crossbows.
True true, i listed only melee weapons ๐ (tho spears might be considered somewhere in between)
Aren't there three bombs?
2 that deal dmg
Yeah, but only two dealing damage
Doesn't change the item type no?
Well, 4 bombs, Ooze, Bile, Smoke and Basalt
Ohhh true, I forgot smoke
Its the least used one ๐ so its understandable
I think the only "weapon" that's present in all biomes are the arrows.
And quite often it's even more than one in a biome.
And axes, tho that depends if you count battle axes
They def count
Clubs too then ๐
you're looking for crypts locked behind a gate that you need the key from the boss previous to open. they are stone entrances with 2 green torches on the front.
What gear do i need to solo that boss
Elder? Troll armor will do just fine
As well as finewood bow and fire arrows, melee weapon at your own discretion ๐
Anyone play with mods and need help building stuff?
#1024264966712340510 ๐
There is so much going on lol
I have three modes for my food: one is three health (abusing serpents) for whenever I'm in my first time in a biome, 2 stam 1 health for resource gathering, and 3 Stam if I searching for the goddamn yag rune
just wanted to say, i hope you guys (who celebrate it) have a very nice christmas eve and christmas day ๐ซถ

why are there so few youtube playthroughs of valheim?
The more poignant question is why do you need YouTube playthroughs of Valheim?
for the entertainment value of it? Some folks like to watch other folks play games you know... ๐
I always start watching youtube content for any game I get started into to see if I can pickup some new tips
There it is. Nobody searches "playthrough" prior to doing it themselves without wanting help.
I feel like what you just said doesn't make any sense
I do... because I like to watch others play ๐ sooooo nobody is a false statemend here... lest you intent to say i am nobody ๐
I can't help with self-deception. Sorry folks.
Oh boy... you are out for clown awards again, ain't you... you should wear a warning label ... gonna go learn some japanese before I get into a fight here...
I'm a complex mix of troll, consciousness raiser, logistician, and, indeed, clown. It's difficult to express in text only, but I'll continue to try.
I'd rather you not... you are annoying at times, not consciousness raising but fury raising. As you stated it is hard to tell what you are trying to do at times but more often then not it is unpleasent to read your comments... gonna get me some coffee now and prepare because I have things to do...
The best of caffeinations to you. Have a glorious Xmas day.
when clearing my first few infected mines would it be better to use a black metal sword or frostner?
man y'all rly need to use the block button on ppl u find annoying
good entertainment tho ๐ฟ
You can be infuriating, to be fair.
I think i have blocked only one person in all of my time online...and that person was way worse that that person there ๐ I do believe in free speech even if it inconveniences me sometimes ๐
Prolly frostner but it's entirely up to you
I did go with frostner... the knock back and slowing helped me a great deal back then... but as scales said... up to you... maybe try both and see what you like better?
I might argue it's more about defence. Lots of pierce damage in Infested Mines.
You and I both, my friend.
I won't deny I'm not for everyone. Hopefully everyone that sticks with it realises it's worth the effort in the long run.
May I adopt that as my mantra? That's pretty much where I am, too.
my padded armor and black metal shield kept me alive pretty well
Of course.
yay for padded armor and black metal shield ๐
Merry valheimas everyone!!
and to you good sir ๐
Sounds to me that someone that knows how to defend themselves would also know how to apply damage.
i was just hoping someone here could tell me if frostner would be better so i dont have to go dig mine out of my armory and test it myself
u2 m8
Yeh I know. ๐ You got it. Even if you're not ideal, I have faith in you.
A kick-ass Yul to you, too. ๐
theres only one correct weapon choice for mines
krom thirsts, and you can lead a sword to water
Claymores?
in a manner of speaking
Cley maws?
big sword
unfortunately not explosive like the modern claymore
(the scots were just too dumb)
That's a great fucking joke.
seriously though krom's special attack goes unreasonably hard
the only real issue i have is it feels a little less consistent at hitting soldier butts
You might want to reflect on why you're spending so much time looking at soldier butts.
If a hitbox hits a weak point and normal collision, the weaknesses won't be applied
I offer advice from a position that I can't overcome. ๐
๐ญ
I built on an island
dug up the river separating it from mainland so mobs wouldn't cross
made a single bridge with defenses, and a gate
made a wall so they don't swim around
places 7 bonfires, 16 workbenches and other stations around the small island after my pig enclosure got killed twice bc they spawned inside
Now, finally, after all of this
A fking greyling swims around the entire island to invade through my port
and you cannot lie?
that sounds kinda nerdy
i dont eat enough eitr food to think that much
Apparently when I do, I become infuriating.
i dont envy the job of resident troll in a post-solved world, my time trolling was when i could still convince people killing 12 trolls and going into a troll cave spawned a troll boss
i dont even like fishing
(this is a joke about the word troll, since im unsure if it will land)
Fishing for Trollfish actually has some value now. Thanks Bog Witch!
It's not, it's awful. We don't even have potatoes?! Why would anyone want to cook breaded fish if they can't cook chips?!
(chips = fries for our US friends)
when do i get to make viking pizza
Oh fun! What goes on a viking pizza?
a lil boar shnoz, some meat based sauce, and grated blob cheese
I reckon Lox could provide some decent milk for cheese. Then, cured boar meat for bacon, mushrooms, and onions.
but then i couldnt thinly slice boar noses for fake pepperoni
im sad we cant tame hares
Yeh. strange that we can tame asksvin, but not hare.
How much can i upgrade bronze atgeir? How many levels
Over 9,000!
no just 9000 no multiplication
I think at like 100 I wouldn't have enough slots in my inventory for the upgrade items
Wdym
I think four is the max
Oh whats with the 9000 then
goofin
Merry Christmas, was nice meeting you.
Root harnesk
the -50% to pierce damage basically nullifies all forms of archers, is relevant against seekers, ticks, queen, mosquito, bunch of stuff in the ashlands etc
ya ppl dont usually wear the entire set, just the chest
Just bought the game. I am part of the community now

welcome :)
Welcome aboard. ๐
Skol
You do realize you just got yourself a time sink?
Not just because this game is addictive as heck, but also because it has parts that will require some time spend to get it done.
Parts that will require some time?
okay that kinda makes sense
like gettin current key or something like that?
Yup. You will occasionally have to wait for some items being finished, grown or even gathered.
Some may call this game "grindy", but so far I've found that if you actually switch activities regularly while playing it, the game will be more of a great time sink and not as grindy at all.
In which biome do mosquitos exist
The good part is, there are modifiers making it a lot easier to gather all your resources, which will make the game a lot easier for a first time play through as well. And very enjoyable too.
hoooooold up a sec ๐
I'm listening
They spawn in the Plains, but may "cross the border" into another biome to attack anything moving in there.
Which means you may encounter them in the Meadows, swamp or Black Forest while you're not even beyond swamp at the time.
The good news, with a shield and good reactions you can easily block their attack and kill them. Especially the latter as they got most likely the lowest amount of HP of every monster you encounter.
Some do, some don't. It's all up to what you prefer.
I've only heard the opposite, that it's worse than the swamp
Cause at the moment i feel like its a good idea to travel with boats, then portals and for example for metals have smelters in the biome ur mining them
I'm there mostly for the vikings and building ๐
I was talking only about the name, before swamp, black forest was scary to me, now its home
Still haven't slain a troll, they just seem so big
My bows just do milimetres of damage
I still despise the black forest because the greydwarfs never stop attacking my boats
Big also means more chance to hit it. ๐
aim for the head, try fire arrows
Meh the dwarfs are easy
yes but they are a massive nuissance
Thats what i do
oh, git gud then
And keep moving. That's one of the important things. Don't sprint, just use the normal movement.
I sailed with my karve yesterday and it just happened to be a troll on the other side of the hill, by the time i parket the karve the troll deleted me and my boat
They catch up then and throw rocks
When you got the Eikthyr power, you can even use that as it will help you reducing stamina use for sprinting and jumping
But those are easy to dodge.
Move away, turn around, shoot - no need to aim at the head, they're big enough to be hit anyway - move away and so on.
Elder power is good for chopping trees. Not for fighting.
Until you've defeated Bonemass, the Eikthyr power is better.
lets go!!!!!!!!!!!! i beat yagluth!!!!!!! only one death!
bait an attack, run away from it, then shoot once. Repeat
What about in the cave
which yag alter did you go to btw
the one on the left
nice, hf in the mistlands
i won't
Sneak in, move forward slowly until you see the troll. Aim at the head, shoot and if possible shoot again.
Then go out, wait a dozen second, sneak in. Rince and repeat.
would you reccomend i go padded helmet, root, fenris legs, or padded, root padded into mistlands?
root chest helps a lot with the bugs
entirely up to you, i think a good match of padded helm, root harnesk and fenring legs is a good starting off point, but if you find that you need some more buffer, don't be afraid to go with padded leggings, if you find yourself feeling comfortable, i'd transition to fenris hood
huh, just killed my first abomination.... I'm glad I prepared as much as I did, but that was really easy
Whats ashlands?
comfortable? in the mistlands? that's funny
The current last biome.
And hell in both ways of speaking.
Better not go there now, as you may loose your ship and being unable to retrieve your items from the tombstone
can a swamp be in the middle of a landmass? Such that it wouldn't be visible from the coast?
Are screenshots allowed in #suggestions ?
If the little Discord "+" sign is in the chat bar, that would be a yes.
Why do you require an image?
Uh... feel free to suggest but something tells me they will not care.
Technically yes, but like 99% of all swamps border the ocean or some form of water
does anyone have a wishbone that ฤฑ could borrow? or help me kill the bonemmass boss in their sewrver?
be a solo chad
it's too hard for me
i really need help i'm on the iron age for 12 hours i think(with a friend)
bows do a LOT more damage if you take the time to train them
you can go actually really far into that game with the humble crude bow
thanks i guess? but will you help me get a wish bone?
im 6 hours in and got the troll clothing
cus i cant even go near the boss (my loot is there) and i think it despawned probs
idk how hard it is to get to iron
Its fairly easy
you need find a swamp and all that
the problem with iron is that you need a lot of it to make anything so that means you gotta find a way to haul back a lot of iron scraps at once
yeah im pretty far from getting any iron lol i should focus on getting some copper first
witha portal its pretty easy
you cant transport iron through a portal
you just need to leave the iron and other things in anouther save and then come back to primary save then teleport to your base and go to the second save and get the iron from there
thats maidenless behavior
is there a calculator for your total stats after eating certain foods?
I'm tryna min max
its still a bunch of very simple additions
Why would anyone go to ashlands
Because they want / have to defeat the last boss.
Food isnt complicated. You have stamina food, health food, "balanced" food. Later you get eitr food. Theres no ambiguity with what you should use if you, say, need a health food: they are all a gradation of worst to best. There no hidden features with lower tiered foods.
Although I wish lower tiered foods did extra stuff. I think it would be neat.
You can if you have set the World Modifiers to transport everything through a portal.
right
I feel like you shouldnt do that when you play through the game for the first time, tho
Who is Krismis and why is everyone telling me to marry them?
And you can even ajust those modifiers for a game you've already played for a while.
All you need to do is log out of the game and when selecting your map, pick the modifiers, then change the one for portals.
Also means, the moment you don't want to use a particular modifier, you can revert it the same way.
Without damaging your saved game.
Food sheet pinned in this channel.
Configurations tab is what you want.
Has the maximum stats for each biome broken down into categories.
(My sheet, not Scarlet's)
Why not just live in a huge safe house in meadows
Die from old age
Watch the village grow
I'm afraid you need to play Aska for that.
It's not possible in Valheim
no
I want to have a choice how I live out my days
You've missed the point of Valheim if you believe you are staying.
Your purpose in being there is to kill the Forsaken to earn passage to Valhalla.
Why stay in purgatory when you can achieve heaven?
Not a believer
Then you will be reborn forever
ima be real, i love travelling to new biomes lol. i was finding myself inside the mistlands before finishing moder
(rabbits are a good food too)
Init I like that you can unlock mistlands food just by scavenging the outskirts
Iโm just about ready to fight yagluth got frostner, padded armor, fire resists, and Iโve boated over to the island heโs at, lox pie, mustard supreme and blood pudding
they are EVERYWHERE on the edge of the mist
Because this little island my base is on has a gorgeous view, purgatory is highly underrated
I think Iโm gonna skip on other potions Iโm waiting on major healing potions and lingering stamina
No.
instead of padded me and my friends are going to try using fenris armor
We're talking about a video game...
In which the rules of the world are set. Belief is not a factor.
Wait, I beat him this morning with exactly that
that also works well the speed helps with dodging his attacks but oh yeah I also have ratatosk for the extra speed
GG
Gg goodluck
Have you delved into the mistlands yet?
Lol, I also had ratatosk
I'm at the edges but other than kiting seeker into lox I haven't done anything there
I wish you the best of luck lol also if you havenโt already wisp fountains are best in swamps as they continually spawn wisps there
Me and my sister beat the queem around an hour ago, holy shit wtf was that. The queen herself was fine, lots of pressure for her healing, fight lasted 30+ minutes. But the seekers? Why so many? And an unlimited amount... it was ridiculous
She only died at the end once. She forgot othet weapons exist other than the crossbow so the fire staff was a godsend.
Fire staff is one of the best solutions for all those seeker adds I've found; mixture of fire staff and atgier while regening eitr
yea the seekers is cancer
Yeah i know and agree. Wouldve been less frustrating if not for the constant regen
Overall enemy AI is horrid in valheim, with groups having identical pathing and just being in one spot instead of spreading out. Helldivers and deep rock galactic do it very well!
Thats basically the only complaint i have of valheim
Same with my skeletons. Just fucking move your ass.
And they didnt even notice the queen half the time
flashback to AOE kiting 30+ elite mobs on WoW with mage exploits
It should be unsurprising that a swarm queen of a hive mind spams lots of smaller enemies
Also, it should encourage you to use aoe weapons, such as the ones mistlands give you
How the fuck does she breed to make so many unlimited full seekers
At the start there seemed to be a cooldown
Just bug things ๐
Ant queens breed without external factors (afaik), so not surprising that she could work the same way
Also read, im a full mage with fire, frost, skeletons and a protection bubble staff
Not that quickly, yes shes magic or whatever but even new brood is always just tiny, not unlimited full seekers
Its just ridiculous, valheim needs a boss overhaul update. The boss design is awful. The moment it doesnt depend on a swarm of different non boss enemies (which are fun and fair on their own!) The bosses are jokes. All of them. Dunno about darth vader but all the bosses have been jokes.
Tell us how you really feel.
I thought; oh mistlands was added later! Must be a better designed boss than the previous, even beginning the fight was different, and not 5 items of the mistlands!
generic fight that depends on annoying swarms
Queen and fader are the very best boss designs in comparison to all the rest.
Only them should be excluded from an overhaul
The queen has only hit me ONCE. And my lovingly dumbass sister twice. The queen is stupid.
The teleport makes no sense, why dig into the stairs to go up? How does she fit?
The fight dynamically changes based on their hp missing, different attacks are unlocked, etc
They felt awfully generic
Sooo apparently some people think that the deep north will be an alternative biome alongside the ashlands instead of being the next one in progression..?..
suurely something so silly and unnecessary wouldn't be the case...right?
Wait i worded that as if i know fader, exclude that, havent even been to ashlands yet
I hope.
But that is wishful thinking, we don't know
Idk in god of war it was muspelheim then niflheim so why not hot and then cold
that sounds like a messy content bloat and like....how tf would that even work with the food/armor/weapons that are ashlands tier anyways
"frometal" weapons with the exact same fucking stats but they look different ๐ค
Ooo, they freeze instead of burn :0
They can just make all items and stuff comparable in stats to ashlands.
The order of development doesn't mean they're forced to just make it better
not how....flametal really works..
Totally original and wouldnt be a reskim
My guy i havent been to ashlands, shit was a guess
soo you'd have like 70 weapons in the same tier
What?
"comparable in stats to ashlands"
Anyway this game has awful boss design, it was stressful and not hard, at all. Except moder, she just stood there.
Doesn't mean they have to copy paste everything.
They could also add different enchantments and mechanics
yuck
You are assuming they will just make ashlands but frosty
yes, so i hope its another biome in progression.
That doesn't need to be the case
I cannot even begin to understand why it would work or be a good idea
8th biome > equal
i don't think adding "comparable things to ashlands" sounds....uhhhh good.
I wouldn't care if it is, but it could also work if it did
It would ruin my mood
if its the same tier then its really just content bloat
It is budget souls-like survival with procedural generation. Idk where the other expectations are coming from.
do you get cooking experience just putting stuff on cooking stations or do you have to actually pull off the cooked thing?
That is true
I shamelessly enjoy all of the elements above regardless.
Just a followup question: do people actually find this game's bosses hard? You cant parry (stupid, makes any timing skill worthless) and theyre repetitive. Yagluth just kept screaming balls while i was going around him. Any sort of skill is neglected when you can just run around like a headless chicken... dont get be wrong im addicted to valheim and i love 90% of it, but grouped enemy AI and bosses are just so mood ruining
Have you tried fighting any of the bosses alone?
Imo a lot of it should stay the same if an update ever comes, if, ofcourse. Just let me parry them for one short attack during parry. Thats it. But im mage now abyway so parrying doesnt matter. And also, cooldowns between attacks, please. Stop spamming the same 3 attacks
Because eventhough the bosses get a lot of extra HP when you fight them with more players, it's also easier as you can attack a boss from two - or more - sides, making it a lot easier to deal damage to it and kill it.
Practically alone. When the heavy armored sword player runs around with a bow or a crossbow and i gotta do 90% of the damage, horde clear and actual boss fighting, its basically alone
Damage itself isnt an issue, i can hit every boss just fine. Moder stood there, doing nothing. Yagluth was running around in a circle, sometimes meteoring my sister, sometimes me. But those rocks exist anyway so we didnt notice.
The Queen kept healing and me having to do horde clear, damaging the girlboss and trying to keep my sister protection bubbled made the fight last over half an hour.
Is the iron axe better than the iron sword?
What good video game boss fight, a single attempt, lasts over 30 minutes
With constant damaging the boss
Its slow, repetitive, and mindfucky. Valheim does regular enemy stuff well tho. 2 seeker fights were usually pretty fun
The summoned skeletons are good example of wtf ai. One spot, only seperated by hitboxes, same attack time (usually) and in a loop of noone getting hit.
In that case, next time enable dev-commands, press "K", collect the trophy and special item and move on to the next biome.
Saves you a lot of frustrations.
For regular enemies, I find that starred enemies makes too much of a difference on their overall power.
Im just yapping about my thoughts on the game so it can be better. It cannot be excused with "its a open world survival". It does most things well. Enemy design in groups is bad, and bosses are sloppy. The queen was 30 minutes long. That is a bad sense of time from the developers. I way prefer the normal video game bosses that can be challenging with timings, and high risk high reward gameplay. If successful, breezed right through, if not, youll need painkillers for the 1236th attempt. Much better than 1 attempt, 1 hour.
I am here to experience the game, and each time i hope they made "this one better"
Goddamnit i got another thing
Eikthyr, fun
The elder, fun, but only hard cus i was unprepared
Bonemass, a pile of slop and stupidity. He did actually follow and fight with a proper attack pattern, nice.
Moder, dumbass stood there, crying.
Yagluth, "ballsi".
Queen, frustration girlboss.
Okay sorry for the walls of text i hope its over now
So you don't like the boss fights.
Fine with me, but like I said, just use the dev commands and continue doing what you do like.
Spouting your frustration here won't help as it's not going to change anyway.
You may post a suggestion down in that channel, but expect a lot of players to burn it.
Or try the alternative and turn up the difficulty to see if that's giving you a better fight.
monster hunter
Its objectivelly bad design, skipping a core part of progression is just a weird thing to do since im not even stuck on any of the bosses, theyre easy but annoying
2* fuling night patrols have always been harder for me than Yagluth alone
Upping the difficulty from what ive seen just makes them tankier. That is not skill based difficulty
If it werent for making enemies tankier, god of war 4/5 does difficulties the best
More frequent attacks, enemies taking turns, and bosses being parryable
I do wish we could parry them bosses, even if it was just for a short period
When aren't bosses parry-able outside of magical attacks?
Harder timing, yes, less time to attack when parried, yes, but fair? Absolutely
We can parry them, it just doesnt stagger nor slow them
Doesn't it trigger the follow up crit attacks?
Just, horrid way to look at game design. More difficulty? Its the same but youll get oneshot by attacks you cant stop! Yay!
Nope
Doesnt do jack shit
Yes valheim world modifiers need some work
Theyโre a skeleton of what a true difficulty setting is
I mean parrying does cut more damage than usual even against bosses
so at least it does something
So... I see mixed messages now
The games "hard" is just frustrating, time consuming bullshit. Everything else os awesome!
I dont think it does, not sure though.
it increases your block armor so it reduces bleedthrough damage
Parrying does nothing against bosses
but that's usually single-digit numbers, if that
Dodge then if youโre worried about that idk
Bosses are immune to stagger
it's not really an issue on normal unless you're trying to block 2-stars or skimping on your shield or hp tbh
the shield armor is multiplied during a parry, assuming it is not a tower shield, and that does apply against anything
yes, im quite aware of that, thanks
That it helps you protect more against their attacks yes
Bosses cant even reach my ass. Why does queen's dash attack not do anything except at the end? Also enemies should have friendly fire. Infinite seekers? Make the queen run them over!
Dodging is objectively better tho
perhaps, but its not what im saying
Oh I misread it and thought you said "put"
Have you killed fader
so is magic, yet people still play melee past Mistlands for some reason ๐ Some people just like the s & b style
I wish we could summon specific types of skellies with the dead raiser using the secondary attack function
Running is also better if you have the move speed for it
Havent even gone to ashlands myself. Each biome im hoping itll be an epic battle of skill.
Im not a big fan of the ashlands
I prefer it over the mistland, but I do think the constant relentless combat is frustrating. I just want to cut down this tree before it burns down, not fight 12 flaming warriors.
because people will cry without end until it's nerfed into the ground. See Ashlands now vs Ashlands PTB day 1.
Good sound design, good enviroment logic, 2 attacks that dont feel repetitive somehow. Why nkt more of that?
And then after heroically dispatching them 12 flaming warriors, you go back to that tree and now you gotta deal with all that again because they just respawned.
Reminder: The true D-Day experience is gone and will never come back
Except that this time, theres a morgen ready to break everything around you.
yes, including your other enemies
Nothing beats a good ol battle for the samples in helldivers.
I find that monster infighting in the ashland is mostly irrelevant.
Sounds like you may be interested in mob density slider
No. Helldivers makes enemies take turns
Only if I can affect specific biomes with it.
Like literally hunters retreat for example
Im also not a fan of how I still havent figured out how to block one star charred warriors
I don't think valheim mobs take turns
If theres more, less time between attacks, but its never at the same time. A bile titan and a charger at the same time? Yes! But a charger and a... other rammy creature i forgot? Never!
Brood commander and alpha commander iirc
Triple fuling stagger swing or the double squito stagger combo
They can attack another player, but never the same one. Theyll hit each other and die.
inb4 "jUsT pLaY HeLlDiVeRs"
Its just just an example of good enemy design
I know
Im just sharing the kind of experiences i get here whenever I share my wishes for this game
Im still kinda bitter about it
Good example of game design, but wildly different games
One of the first things tbat vets added with hordes of mobs in games is turns and seperated pathfinding. Valheim is still missing both.
I wish boats were resistant to piercing attacks
The queen and big terminid fights? Not so different tbh. Judt missing a bomb
Man I hated the queen fight
I hate the queen
Everyone knows that bugs can't fly /s
All enemies follow the same path, let tbem seperate holy shit.
I cheated to kill her and I still had so much trouble
She took 30-40min to beat, i had 24min of rested lost and 40% of her health
Queen in my opinion was pretty fun for me & easy
It was just unfun
How
Easy and frustrating.
Ooze bomb user maybe
Predictable attack pattern, easy to kite seekers else where, use mistwalker, nothing tough
Fire staff user. Although i shouldve given my sister some ooze bombs
A few potions too
They were constantly at the same place as the queen herself. How? Huh?
Also she regenerates? How did you deal enough damage to negate that?
Well thereโs multiple spawn areas for seekers, wherever the mom is, is where they spawn
All mobs in the game have the same regen
But fucking hell i told my sister to use her mistwalker but she said "ooo ooo then she'll squash me"
Not as noticable. 40 health in 5 seconds.
Lmaoo, donโt worry mustโve been a experience anyways, fun part is up to you
not true
it's dependent on their health
Last tweak did make it come back somewhat (from what I was told)
So it might still be there
Really? Depending on if you include shaman
And healer dvergr
I meant, they heal the same percentage, not the same health
But yeah, higher the hp, more hp they regen, same percentage
It's not even close to the original experience
You are comparing two completely different games...
Fuck ive wasted the last hour here ranting instead of sleeping
Extra multiplayer difficulty scaling matters a lot here
Happy holidays everyone
Should be better than completely gone tho...
Happy holidays
This too, more people, the more health mobs have
Every +1 person within 100meters, mob has +30% hp
@leaden elbow so if you were with your sister, queen had +30% hp making it more tough
is it new the shield generator block rain or i just never notice ?
Anyone know if that multiplayer modifier is additive or multiplicative with the difficulty modifier?
Yet, with my friend, I hardly struggled in the fight
idk man it's not even close to the ptb experience it might as well be gone
Difficulty modifier decreases the damage a player deals, increases mob size, & increases damage
Mob size...?
& multiplayer isnโt quite a modifier you can choose from
Yep, trolls go from 8 ish meters to 12
What does that even matter?
From my visual
So if I want extra big lox, increase difficulty?
Yes
It also increases their speed
That's kind of hilarious
Forgot that
If they retain their stats after taming, then 2* armies could be more useful than weapons...
yes tames do more damage on vh
same goes for summons like vines from staff of wilds, summoned troll, skeletons etc
And summons too
Just like a true survival game I see
That is disappointing.
People only see the frustrating part of difficulty but don't think about it also making it fun.
It's much better to have a frustratingly fun moment than an easily boring one
I really think asksvin should be bumped back up to 3
is there a way to hide all the map markers?
right click the map marker indicators on the bottom right corner
omg that's so nice
fun fact: it's not just the lower firerate, crossbows gain 1 XP per bolt while bows gain 1.5
I didnt notice that actually
Holy pain
They have an obsession with one exp per action
I don't understand why...
#JusticeForArbalests!
#AlsoRippers!
Bloody hell, I never used a bow in the ashland until now. The spinesnap is so much better there!
What causes enemies to just leave a fight? Sometime a charred warrior is straigth up my face and then they just turn around and walk away.
I think they can do that if they didnt get a hit on you for some time
That would make sense but somehow I feel like its something else.
Sometimes the AI just does whatever it wants ๐
Enemies in the swamp sometime do that too. Its super weird.
I was practicing archery on leeches using a crude bow, and sometime they would just stay there taking hits, and sometime they would leave.
But what was funny is that if they would leave after taking a hit, they would all do it. If they would stay there like champs, they would all stay there.
That might be exactly the case when they were not able to hit you for long time
if you let them get far enough they lose aggro as well so you can get a sneak attack bonus from shooting them in the back ๐
I did notice that.
ok so right now if I am shooting shit charred warrior from far enough, they just automatically turn around and flee as fast as they care for
which is to say, not very fast
-# RNGAI (ar-EN-guy)
I throw a spear at leech at my feet, every enemy in a big radius comes to my location, keeps throwing the spear
yeah, throwing the spear has an amazing ability to do that. the attack sound on it must be HUGE.
its the same alert radius as secondary for ageirs, maces, swords and even fists ๐คทโโ๏ธ
sure feels like it's more.
I'm not doubting the almighty wiki; I'm just saying it seems like every enemy in the biome hears a thrown spear.
Well thats how I feel in the ashland whenever I want to do anything
true dat.
Just as well as any other secondary from weapons i listed ๐ (and axes primary and secondary has actually bigger radius than those)
me: use an axe once on a tree
the entire battalion of heck: "Bonjour"
Given Ashlands is down under, it would probably be more "Howdy" or "G'day" ๐
you sure about that? when i throw a spear in an infested mine everything and it's mother gets alerted, atgeir special has never done that
Pretty sure ๐ค , i checked this stuff not too long ago with the code, tho i dont remember if i actually looked at atgeirs
Also I want a charred greatbow
If anything it's a bit misleading, because spear special actually alerts stuff, all of the other specials you listed just make noise.
The spear alerts them? Is it different to other weapons noise?
yes
It functions kinda like the bow, say you snipe a shaman with a draugr bow, everything around that shaman within an 8m? radius gets alerted and comes to fight ya, spear special works like that
because it's a projectile
Oh, true that might do that, projectiles let the enemies know the location you shot/threw from, tho you can sneak of from that location if you want
The way you worded that implied that the spear special has a specific aggro attracting property
It makes sense when you explain it in the way that its a projectile, though.
You basically get 2 radiuses which the spear makes noice, first 10m radius of the throw itself with centre on you and then 30m radius with centre at the place the spear hit something, but creatures alerted in the 30m radius will go to the location you threw from
@shy marlin Did you attempt that Valheim speedrun a while back? Trial of T or something?
Would you attempt another challenge, if they were to do another?
prolly not
Ah, fair enough!
it aint like elder scrolls where u can just grab a few scrolls and cheese everything
I wish we could hatch volture eggs into some kind of weird turkey.
I say that because getting vulture eggs is kind of annoying.
Merry Christmas guys ๐
Merry Yule
You can hatch eggs?
Just downloaded the game
Well you can get chicken eggs late in the game.
I want to ask, I have collected barley and then made flour in the windmill but when I want to make bread in Cualdorn the bread option doesn't appear even though my Cualdorn is level 4, so I can't make bread, what should I do to get bread?
You need to make the Food Preparation Table
And the Stone Oven
ok thank u very much, i can get it now๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ
What is the best biome to build house currently I have only unlocked black forest but I keep dying
Meadows is great for base?
Where y'all build your first bases?
meadows makes the most sense for first time plays, usually near water so you can sail your boat to/from places
Before leaping into new biomes, make sure you have appropriate gear
There's alota dangers and sometimes especially if you're new. If you discover a new biome and you die in it. It can be extremely hard to recover your items
Just some advice for later in the game, past the swamp biome
Alright
Also. Every item has a purpose. And good ones at that. Love that about the game
meadows for relaxed playtrhough. otherwise black forest
The only thing most people consider a requirement is ocean access for shipping in metal ore. Everything else is pretty much negotiable.
Where you put it mostly just decides what enemies will spawn around it (and deliver loot to your front door), what you can farm (but you can just make farms somewhere else and portal there) and what raid events you get.
and i try to base nearby relevant stuff, like nearby copper nodes
personally i like a border between as many biomes as possible since most mobs from different biomes fight each other and leave their drops on my front lawn
My first "base" is usually a somewhat enlarged wooden hut in the Meadows, with enough room for a bed, workbench + 2 upgrades, 1-2 chests, a campfire with cooking spit and (planned later) a portal.
My "real" base is usually located at a Meadows or Black Forest island, with enough room to build everything I need plus some more.
Noted
i start with base near first boss and finish boss as soon as possible using bow or spear
So you killed the boss with bow?
if location is good can just make big base there and make pit around it
yeah its either bow or spear both works bcz of long range
but base near water always best
hi! is Gportal the only good pay for server service or does someone reccomend another? im pc
I wouldn't say GPortal was good.
Just bought the dathost one yesterday, so far all good
alright, cuz google, reddit and yt only talks about gportal. I very much appreachiate alternative suggestions
Is it possible to switch server settings mid game with a hosting site? such as temporarily go no building costs or switch difficulty?
you think its one time only and cant switc later?
If anything you should be able to do this in the game console
no
I'm not an expert tho
thanks for the suggetstion anyways:)
The server settings don't have such options, but id generally assume this could be done via game console at any time
i will probably do dathost
gportal is 30% more expensive so dathost sounds good ๐
Depends on what country your in. On what hosting sites are good for you, or the price tbh
But yeah I don't think u can change server settings w hosted servers
And that is Def a unique name
yeah it seems this was the case when I played a year ago. Some people in our group got discouraged of fighting and losing all our levels when we got to mist and we wanted to lessen the penalty but couldnt do it
however dathost does let you switch modifiers midgame
The easier way around that would to simply make sure to stock up on healing mead , upgrade gear and good food
so im pretty stoekd
Well glad you found one you like that
yeah ofc. Im used to play normal but I dont feel bad if I only lose 1 of every elvel per death haha
Yeah. I play completely vanilla. I don't like using modifiers cus it seems kinda cheap personally
The dying and getting gear back and all of that just feels like part of the game
yeah I enjoy being on the edge. I hope the lesser xp penalty doesnt make me feel too safe and invincible to ruin the experience. We are planing to finish plains boss with normal difficulty anyways and maybe swap for lategame. At least I have the option now! ๐
I think I just got myself nominated for the bravest - or most stupid - idea of Valheim.
Found a nice map with an island having both Black Forest and Plains biome, so good to grow all crops.
To get there, I need to cross 3 stretches of ocean.
So I started a new game with a new character to get there.
Means I will have to use a raft to get there.
On hard.
This'll be fun. ๐ช
is there any clue on when deep north might come out ?
on hard the only way to play the game fr
Yup.
Somewhere in future.
Speculations expect it most likely be the end of 2025
thinking if i should start a new playthrough, been a while
Perhaps. But going near / into plains with a lvl 2 shield, lvl 1 club, lvl 3 crude bow and flint or wood arrows? And lvl 1 leather armor?
Some would call that madness.
I think it might be fun.
cant spell fun without mad
well, in that case, try this:
my current map:
https://valheim-map.world/?seed=FarHarbor&offset=-197%2C95&zoom=0.126&view=0&ver=0.219.13
Move to (2920, 159) to see the island I'm considering as a base.
Does chopping down ashtrees actually spawn enemies?
No
Spawn, no. Attrackt them, yes.
I swear everytime I go kill some ashtrees, entire armies shows up to see what im doing
Well, that makes sense as it make quite a bit of noise ๐
Yeah but like, where do these guys even appear? Im on a tiny island that I keep clearing of enemies.
Im starting to think that the criteria for enemies to spawn en masse in the ashland is "wherever I'm not looking"
All chared come from the spawners you see. So do Vultures.
Thing is, Charred spawers can be destroyed, Vulture spawners can't. And then there's the hidden spawners for Charred that are everywhere as well.
Just be "glad" you aren't in the PTB. There were a lot more foes at that time as there are now.
Tbh i would love to try ptb ashlands again ๐
Its a bit annoying because sometime I just want to explore, even if its a little bit, but I take one step and then I gotta take ten back because I gotta fend off an entire legion. And by the time I destroy it, another one took its place at the same spot as before.
Kinda same, I died a bit over 10 times during the PTB but with the experience I have now from the Ashlands I would like to know if I fared deathless during that.
Most useful thing I learned in the PTB was that there were Dverger buildings along the coast which would make a great first base.
With a nice amount of "first step" resources you could access the moment the Dverger were killed by the Ashland creatures and their ward destroyed.
Well, I jus learned a new lesson.
Fighting Eikthyr with a crude bow and wooden arrows on Hard isn't a smart thing to do.
"Glad" I died only once.
I beat him with spear in my Hard world.
Still the best option IMO.
As do a lot of players, but I just can't get along with a spear. I'm a lot better with a bow, but the bad choice I made was using wooden arrows.
Those are fine in normal but too weak in hard.
Should've been Flint or Fire arrows instead.
Tbh on normal its not too hard to kill him even with fists ๐
Hence why I said that it's possible to kill him with wooden arrows on normal.
But on Hard I did 10-18 dmg. And the bugger got a lot of health.
Spend about 110 arrows on him and the bloody flappy birds checking out the noise.
And some boars that decided it was a good idea to be in my way as well.
Lower bow skill also might affect a lot for that fight.
The draw is so slow on low lvl.
I had 15 or so in bows before I died.
Tier 2 bow with my skill does 9-18 pierce.
Wooden arrow with my skill does 7-14 pierce.
So that's 16-32 damage on 'normal' monsters. I did 10-18 on Eikthyr.
Fint arrows do 9-17 dmg with my current skill
Fire arrows do 4-7 pierce and 7-14 fire dmg. And fire stacks......
I usually skip Crude bow because it is pretty inaccurate. That's why I main spear during the early game.
It's fast and the throw is much more accurate when you get a hang on it.
I use the crude bow because of its inaccuracy. Because that teaches you to aim well.
I skip it if i have enough luck and find a shipwreck quickly ๐ otherwise i do make it to kill some trolls easily
I was hoping Eikthyr would destroy some of the Birch trees, but alas...... ๐ฆ
You could summon him again for that ๐
Oh I might. But first there's this absolutely crazy epic journey I have to do.
I'm already having a bit more of an advantage, as I managed to kill some skellies, so I upgraded my leather tunic and pants.
Full nomad run to the island no portals or nothing ey?
I found a map with a Black Forest / Plains Island I want to use as a base.
But to get there, I need to cross 3 pieces of ocean. On a raft.........
You go full masochist and select no map?
Nope. I'm Dutch, not stupid. ๐
Hah lov it
Besides, if I'd go no-map, I wouldn't be able to use the Valheim Map generator either.
And that's where I found that island.
You could still use map gen as a resource. Just have to navigate by hand.
Could print the map out and plot your course as you progress
I could, but for now I'm just doing Hard+ and plain Hard later.
One step at the time is fast enough for me.
You're run friend. Just making convo. God speed viking
Shame we can't name boats. Otherwise I'd call that raft the SRI (Sailing Raft Idiocy)
And now the best part......
I crafted the raft at the wrong side of my starting landmass. ๐คฃ
lol
There's a river running through it, so it's not that much of a problem. But still.....
can't just break it and rebuild?
Of course, but sailing that river is just as much fun.
Right. Death #2, at the border of the Ocean and a Black Forest island. About 50m from the shore.
Guys!
Happy christmax
Hope y'all are viking maxing ! Never let the pesky trolls destroy your Christmas spirits
Huzaaa we are warriors!
We are heros!
u2
Experiment finished after facing my 3rd death.
I like the Hard setting.
But fighting 3 brutes, including a 1 star, a 2 star shaman, 6 greydwarves, including a 2 star and two one stars and a troll at a tiny island is a bit too much.
Especially since it was the wrong island.
And not in the mood to start collecting items for another raft for the 3rd time.
I don't think this is the right channel for that.
I'm disapointed that we have meads, fermenting barrels, drinking cups to Skal with
and yet, there's not a single drop of beer in sight
Valheim truly is purgatory
We got wine made of barley. What do you think is in beer?
Mead is superior to beer.
oh mb lol, didn't made it to plain yet
Depends. If you drink too much if it, either will give you a terrible headache.
Tbh, i have yet to find an ammount of beer that will give me headache afterwards๐ค (if i drink only beer that is :D)
I s'pose you never drank that worl famous Dutch brand, which a lot of Dutch people would call Troll Pee (need to be a bit Valheim related after all).
Drink too much of that and you surely will get a headache.
Come to think of it, Lox Pee would most likely be more accurate. ๐
Huh. Did in full immersion always pointed you where the boss is?
I believe so. Assuming you mean the vegvisrs.
Yaa, well thats pretty cool just started a full immersion run xD
you need to press e on the vegvisir and not move the camera at all for it to slowly point you in the right direction
Is there anything planned after the deep north or is that the end of production and work on valhiem?
havnt played valhiem since mistlands got announced anyone have a open server up? would like to play
Deep North is the final biome, yes. After that just bug fixes.
You will find those in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
thank you
they said in an interview something like that it's the 1.0 release but not necessarily the end
here timestamped https://youtu.be/1OGquG74KlA?si=jFVmYG_03pRcZdWc&t=155
its funny because Barley Wine is just a brand name for a beer
If it looks like a skeleton then it is a skeleton
Unless it's a Greydwarf skelleton? ๐
-# look closely, those are no rocks ๐
It would still be a skeleton, just from a greydwarf
wasted todays day on ashlands. i fucking hate ashlands. No flametal is accessible, all in lava pools i cant reach. Constant morgens (i legit thought the Guten morgen this is morgen gif was joking, his name is literally morning wtf) in terms that the fight lasts forever, not being able to not do anything proper. The enemies tank everything, and my sister was suprisingly skilled today. The only ashlands tier staff is still shit, and in the central askvin parts there is a constant bombardment of enemies, ending up wasting the day. Most deaths have been testing how to reach flametal, not even in combat haha.
ashlands stink, any tips to clear out those hordes quicker?
although enemy variety and attack patterns are nice, and animations are well done.
Build more bathtubs
its difficult, not poorly made. The enemies seem to act pretty smart
5 feet apart
so props to the devs for coding the enemy AI at least
I am having more fun than I would have ever expected to have playing hard difficulty and no map (i did turn the death penalty down to easy and the ressources up to 1.5x though, no need to go full tilt with something new ๐ )
high risk high reward!
managed to only die once in a burial chamber stuck with 2 onestar skellies in a jumping animation got hit from both sides... that was a thing to get my stuff back ๐ and the spawner i was trying to take out was still alive and spewing skellies ๐ but hey... fun times
Just curious: Have you found one of those Dverger outposts along the coastline yet?
You'd be surprised what you can find there once the Dverger are gone.
ive found some dvergr castle thing with flametal instead of soft tissue
but its just 6
Similar experiences will be had in swamp crypts and mists mines--enjoy draugr spawner timers with a random chance of rolling stars
so far ive found: empty castles, small castles, i assume a morgen cave, and middle of lava pool flametal veins
well... i am gonna blast them with the stagbreaker ๐ and later the sledge... never had big trouble in crypts... was just i did not have the stagbreaker yet...those deer trophys were a little elusive ๐
Did any of those places have a ward?
Try to look for those. Use the Dverger there as meat shield / canon fodder / unsuspected volunteers and let them handle the monsters for you. When they're dead, destroy their ward and check all the crates and barrels you see in there. You'd be surprised what you will find.
Also, since those places got the spike thingies already up, it's a lot easier to defend it.
And it makes a good secluded spot for your portal; especially once you got a shield generator up and running.
eh the portal part is fine i got a nice place, well its not nice but its a box with a shield gen that enemies cant see
so... just learnt basalt bombs exist. I NEED NEW ITEM HIGHLIGHTS WHEN FIRST SEEING THEM IN A MENU
the notification is not enough, or at least sort by new
theres not even a mod for it which is really weird
Default sort is also kinda bad
so, anyone care to just make a

step by step thing what i should do in ashlands
every other biome ive done spoilerless for the most part, but ashlands is just wasting my time
dvergr outpost, morgen cave, charred castle or whatever, flametal, in what order?
1 fire resist mead
2 eat thicc hp food
3 raid and pillage
Get yourself a good foothold near the coast. The Dverger outpost I mentioned is one option. The crates do contain Flametal, which is why I mentioned them earlier.
On top of a Morgen Cave / Putrid hole is a good spot too.
Terraform the landscape if you must. Dirt walls work very well over there.
Look for a green beam and move inland towards it. Spawn proof your path with campfires if you must.
Capture the fortress and make that your permanent Ashlands base.
After that, start working from there to mine the Flametal and other ingredients needed.
im a mage, my sisters the physical down n dirty damage dealer
fyi
I am not a clever man
there was no current information that couldve told you im a wizard, dw
(never played wizard, so idk how to advise there, just zugzug for me)
abra cadabra your head is now a cobra
(its fun but my sister keeps knocking back the enemies so i miss and waste my eitr)
Give her a knife; much less knockback
wait so fortress BEFORE flametal?
i think the intended path is to mine a few lavaiathans first since it's a much less dangerous source of flametal and the main reward of fortresses is a material used to upgrade flametal gear (as well as flametal as a bonus)
but it's no doubt possible to do a fortress first
Fortresses give so much flametal, havent ever bothered with mining it ever
last time i was in the ashlandes i did raid 4 fortresses with NO Flametal in them what so ever... rng can be so mean
Yo, I'm in the bronze age, maxed tools and full troll set for armour, how much extra copper/tin/bronze should i keep around? I hate mining copper
a fair amount of things still use bronze iirc. Maybe keep 2 stacks
i dont find myself needing bronze much at all past that point, but if you like the baziers then u might use some
copper for sconces is a big thing for me tho
the braziers do take copper
bronze is only needed for some upgrades to the workbenches and later you can build some stuff with bronze.. but you can always find more later... i never keep to much around ๐
ah sorry misread... the sconces take copper
16 copper + 5 bronze for T3 workbench/forge base and upgrades.
For cooking, add some extra copper and tin for a full stack of each maybe.
Does anyone know the range of the Fire Hazard when it comes to campfires?
Can't find it on the Wiki.
if you hate mining copper ur gonna looove mining silver hehehe
You will need about 2 full copper nodes (180-ish) copper to get everything upgraded to the maximum.
After that you may need more for the torches and later in the game another light source and wall piece.
So if you're able to keep another 90-ish set apart you may be good.
lf people to help me raid swamp for iron anyone down
Oh and for copper nodes the expressions: "There's more than meet the eye" and "there's a lot more under the surface as you'd expect" are certainly true.
You may ask around in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 for that.
yeah plenty more copper under the ground, but you can just ignore it if u want. there's thousands of it out there
just make sure to save all that stone you get while mining because you will be able to use it all later
by doing that i barely needed to do any extra mining to set up a base in the plains made out of stone
Mining copper: one of the best early ways to acquire copper ore stone
when i was new at the game i threw a lot of it away because i didnt have any use for it yet lol. then later on when i got the stonecutter i was like WTF
Stone is like iron: You will never have enough of it.
Copper is bait for early stone mining; actual copper ore yield is atrocious
yeah i had a cart full of iron before i started making my plains base. now i have like 40 left...
happy i stashed barely enough, but i cant even get a full set of padded armor with this
Only a cart full?
I think I used close to 1K for my base, have 1K in storage and another 1K in scraps at one of my swamp outposts.
New system memory for Christmas. Ashlands runs a lot better now
Well, on the bright side: you have much easier time in swamps when getting more iron due to better gear ๐
Quick question, does anyone know if the team plans on releasing a vinyl once the game is finished?
And another 1k for that one multiplayer guy that makes iron arrows
a what now?
A vinyl! Of the soundtrack!
not much longer and i will finally be ready to venture into the mistlands for the first time. kinda intimidated tbh
