tar pits are a great way to get blackmetal early

pliant hatch
#

Reaching isn't the problem.
Moder's drop is required to craft some "workbenches" and / or its items to process into the better food and even the last tier ship.
You can make it into Ashlands without, but with that ship, the journey is a lot less heating things.

long locust
#

I'm fully aware how moder's drop works

#

doesn't mean that you can't progression skip though, hell you can get Krom and Arbalest without killing any bosses

pliant hatch
#

And I seriously doubt it's a good idea to fight any of the monsters in the biomes after the mountains on Swamp / mountain tier food.

crude sparrow
#

why?

#

I see mosquito
I scream
I calculate
I kill it

long locust
#

well the obvious answer is because it's highly likely to get you killed, but denying the possibility of progression skipping is ridiculous

pliant hatch
#

Because you will encounter monsters that are able to one hit kill you if you run with that low amount of health

vocal rivet
#

Did someone deny the existance of progession skipping?

crude sparrow
long locust
pliant hatch
#

I'm not denying it.
I'm just explaining why it isn't a good idea to skip killing Moder.
That's a big difference.

If Matter wants to go on and fight Fader on Mushrooms, Raspberry and Honey only, that's fine with me.
I don't think it's a good idea, but it's still fine with me.

vocal rivet
#

Yeah, for newer players, progression skipping is a really daft suggestion.

long locust
#

I never suggested progression skipping

#

they asked what was possible to do without killing bosses and I answered

If you want to do that, you will find great allies in the mountains. Which will even follow you when sailing as they can swim as long as you don't go too fast. Because if they can jump overboard, they will jump overboard.

However, you will need larger numbers of them when hitting mistlands and most likely even more in Ashlands.
You might find new allies in the plains and in Ashlands to help you.

Biggest problem is that none of these allies will follow you inside caves or some buildings; which means you can't fight none of the mini-bosses, wouldn't be able to gather much gold until you find a way to get trolls killed with those allies and thus will have a hard time to get the Meginjord, Dvergr Circlet and even a common fishing rod and bait; which are very useful later in the game.
Also, getting serpent meat will be quite hard and that will provide you with one of the best foods for the first three biomes.
Even feasts will be complicated to get, as it means killing animals. Only fish may be possible to gather as they wash ashore once in a while.

Speedruns are crazy, i watched a ton of them for general strats i could use. Only a handful of times i did some progression skipping just for the hell of it

pliant hatch

For the same reason the meadows don't have horses and cows: because the devs liked it better this way

arctic garnet

we already have horses: Scarlet and I.

arctic garnet

I think you would have to ask devs themselves if you want their reason

arctic garnet
#

I'm sure there's more reason to it than whatever is the reason we can't tilt our swings up/down by just 15 degrees

wispy path
#

it's never as easy as just "adding a horse" - it's the time and resources pulled away from what they're currently doing with their smaller team

unborn nexus
wispy path

you add a horse, then you'd have people complaining they don't work well on boats, they fall into the ocean, they can't take them to new islands, etc

And thousands more love me, it's the way of the world.

arctic garnet

That's fine. But I'm still gonna beat my drum about this because I really don't see a reason why not. Just fifteen degrees. Not like this would cause any exploits or problems and it'd make melee on inclines feel much better than having to shift around for a spot to fight on

vocal rivet
#

Again, just repeating what Smiffe says (I'm not a programmer in any capacity) but I gather it's not as simple as people make out.

arctic garnet

It's okay if it's not simple. Sometimes worthwhile things take work.

#

mods are the lifeblood of indie games like these

#

you can always find something that will make the game more fun

vital umbra
#

ewwwwww

#

now thats an L opinion, 1200 vanilla hours says completely otherwise.

humble vortex

oh you poor person

i mean for your attitude alone absolutely not

vital umbra

Yes, Indeed.

#

Heres the thing, I do not Like mods.

#

I like the game valheim thats why i have stuck with it for years.

humble vortex
#

you don't seem to understand what opportunities modding offers

vital umbra
#

good for modders, idc i don't like mods.

humble vortex
#

you havent tried any

vital umbra
#

how do you know

humble vortex
#

you said so

vital umbra
arctic garnet
#

Mods are fine, I just feel it's not ideal that too many things be left to them.
or certain things.

vital umbra
#

not going to try them either

#

lol

arctic garnet
#

actually I haven't really tried modded Valheim, I wonder what there is

humble vortex
#

modding tools are important to let the community give players the opportunity to make the experience more fun for their particular playstyle

vital umbra
#

yeah i'm not arguing against that but i also like valheim personally, and i dont care 🥴

#

i don't care who uses mods

vital umbra
#

glad you feel that way 🐦

arctic garnet
#

i... would really like an extra bright lantern on the prow of my longship for coastal maneuvering in heavy fog. especially if i'm trying not to ground myself

humble vortex
#

the valheim devs seem to have a specific vision of how they want the game to function, so accessible modding is important to let players adjust the game to the way they want to enjoy it

#

e.g. slope combat

arctic garnet
#

jesus don't get me started

vital umbra
#

I like the devs vision of it, and i play it.

arctic garnet
#

I already had my rant, you can scroll up to it if you want, but suffice it to say I'd prefer that not be something you need to mod to address.

vital umbra
#

if you're so angry about vanilla valheim then why are you in the devs official server for it lol 😭

#

i appreciate sooo much the work they've put in, and they have conjured up what might be my favorite game 🧡

arctic garnet
#

because i think amending this particular thing is a good idea that may help the gameplay experience of more people than just i so i pressure and suggest for it because i like the game and want the best for it.

vital umbra
#

idk what you were talking about and idrc mod the game if you want 🤷

#

I, Do not care, if people want to mod it or not, but if you're going to argue with me a vanilla enjoyer if something is better or not i will argue back..

arctic garnet
#

Maybe it's a difference of perspective. Maybe more people than I think consider the awkwardness of fighting on a slope somehow fitting for Valheim; I've been finding it more and more annoying.

vital umbra
#

Its just valheim for me.

arctic garnet
#

I do not understand why we don't want this changed with how sincerely I feel like this is something not functioning the way it should be
but i guess it is

astral prism
#

I think as long as youre having a good time it doesnt matter how you play the game 🙂

humble vortex
#

has anyone suggested making polearms like spears, atgeir etc. have the unique ability to thrust down slopes

vital umbra
#

well yeah

arctic garnet
#

Overall, yes, it's still workable, but I do consider it worth doing, for some areas more than others. Looking at you, Mistlands

astral prism
#

the only thing id ask for a change is the early introduction of eitr in the game and eitr food and early magic.

vital umbra
#

its really just a positioning thing, it feeels like most of this conversation is in the context of the mistlands

#

ehhhhh

astral prism
#

so youre not leveling a skill literally from level one so late in thje game

humble vortex
#

it seemed obvious to me that you should be able to skewer leeches with a long pointy stick from safety but you cant

arctic garnet
#

Mistlands has a heavy part in it, but any biome can have enough variation to throw an attack over or under and you can still get hit.

#

Leeches I have an admittedly surprisingly easy time with considering the way melee works. Maybe I'm used to gaming the elevation, but it still feels, well, gamey
like when you're aiming in a sidescroller shooter and the character only aims straight horizontally, like Metal Slug or something.

rain flare
#

Valheim combat has always been janky on slopes
You learn to work with it since we are still in early access

#

I wouldn’t be surprised if the team fix up a few things like that by 1.0

humble vortex
rain flare
arctic garnet
#

Early access or no, I know many things have been attended to and I do like it. Maybe this particular thing isn't as pressing.

humble vortex
#

in gamedev integral systems like the combat are usually the first thing you have to get absolutely right before working on content so it seems like a strange outlier

arctic garnet
#

it'd feel weird seeing this fix packaged with the last boss and full release

vital umbra
#

really makes you think doesnt it

arctic garnet
#

for me that is
because i'd feel like I had the wrong impression about them not caring about it at all

rain flare
#

I am quite sure the team will invest every effort to push the game to excellence in all areas - especially combat and building - as those are some of the main features ❤️

vital umbra
#

hi sildar

arctic garnet
#

It's true, I feel most at home building my village and finding something to parry and then slap into next week.

humble vortex
#

to me it seems like the mojang case where the dev team is reluctant to change it since it could have far-reaching impacts on the combat experience

#

there are definitely a lot of cheese strategies it makes available since the enemy ai isn't programmed to back off

rain flare
#

Look at how patiently and meticulously they have worked on the other items ingame - we didn’t get this far for no reason

rain flare
arctic garnet
#

I said I wouldn't go on my ramble again but it feels I already did. Anyways, I've had it in my head that just 15 degrees of up/down angling would be enough for those just-out-of-reach elevations without introducing (many) situations where you can melee an enemy that can't melee back.

humble vortex
#

is there somewhere where a dev has commented on slope combat saying "yes this is the intended experience"?

vital umbra
rain flare
arctic garnet
#

i would be very annoyed if they just flat said "never gonna change this" but it wouldn't be a deal breaker.

vital umbra
#

they've said that about alot of things and some of them not true i feel

#

no idea, just wait to see what they'll do pretty much.

rain flare
#

Right now your character returns to a default position that is quite awkward considering it treats you as being on a flat surface and you are on a 45-90 degree incline

rain flare
tiny tiger
#

The axe middle attack is perfect against leeches

humble vortex
#

they could just explain that viking helmet technology restricts vision to only seeing enemies on a level field or above

tiny tiger
#

Same with mace middle attack tbh

#

And spear throw also works lol, so there’s options

humble vortex
#

using a spear throw on that is a bad idea

tiny tiger
#

I mean if it’s in the middle of the water yeah but when they’re by the edge and you can pick it back up easily then it’s no issue

#

It would be nice if the abyssal knife came with the perk of being able to use it while in water

#

Gives it a unique twist and it’s around the time you start exploring swamps if you are fortunate enough to stumble upon a leviathan

arctic garnet
#

I know we're supposed to use ships to handle water and the intention is clear through our very limited swimming endurance, but like... diving in and stabbing a serpent to death with a knife sounds absolutely Beowulf as hell and I wanna do that.

i keep wasting stone because i'll go to lay a block and a wave will cause it to move right as i click. then when i dismantle the stone sinks

opal prairie

Is the water particularly deep? If not use the hoe to first raise it up a bit, maybe you can do it with the waves bringing you low enough.

lofty rivet
#

I’m super early game, just defeated the first boss, what’s the best way to farm the scraps from boars?

idle storm
opal prairie
#

For me the easiest way to tame boars is making a pit, floor over it, lure boar on it, destroy floor so boar drops down, toss in food, floor over it again, run away and sneak back and wait.
Works for all the tameables.

steel mica
opal prairie
idle storm
#

instead of the floor method you can also just shove them in with a shield. Though their damage is low enough that a palisade wall works fine too, a pit is only necessary for wolves and upwards.

torpid linden
#

is the any chance to get boar with 2 star ?

plush umbra
#

if it randomly spawned more than 800 meters from the world's center, there's a 1% chance for each boar to be a 2-star.
within 800 meters, only boars that spawned from a boar runestone or abandoned village can have stars, which never respawn.

merry pebble

Oh it applies to the village spawns too? 👀

warm sandal

i just buld a small pen, lure them in close it up and then throw food and go a way 😄

tiny tiger
#

Damn I always murder the rune boars

violet pelican
#

idk but they're pretty aukward to deal with, they don't snap together and they're inclined down, they're not straight

tiny tiger
#

It’s just meant to give a rough looking fence look

warm sandal
#

yeah they are meant to be that way so you can place them like you want them and they are super useful for taming boar 😄

idle storm
#

if you want a proper straight fence just build one out of wood beams.

opal prairie
#

Change direction each time, make a zigzag pattern.

warm sandal
#

i never dug a pit to tame them, just use them fences 😄

tiny tiger
#

Yeah the fences do fine for boars

violet pelican
#

Idk i think they should be like straight fences, kinda like minecraft or something you know?

warm sandal
#

no try to do that with wolves mind you...not even stone is sturdy enough to keep them in... pit needed for wolves

warm sandal
violet pelican
#

Hm then maybe add 26 and 45 degree versions?

warm sandal
#

they can be used to block windows so you can see throug but the bats are kept out too ... did that for a chicken coop 😄

violet pelican
#

Really though my main problem isn't even the fences, it's that they don't snap together in a well, satisfying way, you have to align them, unlike wooden beams or whatnot

steel mica
warm sandal
#

well you can always use beams and posts to make a straight fence that snapps in place - you are not required to use them if you do not like them 😄

violet pelican
#

Yeah I guess that's a solution but if you can make a game better you should, prob gonna put this in a suggestion somewhere. I feel games can be so much better with even the tiniest details being fixed

opal prairie
steel mica
#

parry and kick the bastard in the hole

warm sandal
tiny tiger
#

Instead of changing them why not just add more fence types

violet pelican
#

I mean seeing the game is still not finished, it's pretty safe to assume everything isn't perfect still, including fences, i think they could probably make a better model aswell. One with 2 poles, one on each side and sticks between

#

That's also another solution, but then you don't want to add too much, otherwise building will be overwhelming and then it becomes minecraft

warm sandal
#

they said they will make changes to every biome for the 1.0 but it is everybodies guess what that will be - so... possible... we do not know... i'd prefer them like they are - they could add other types or not ... we will have to wait and see

tiny tiger
#

More build pieces are always welcome, though I could see there being benefit from making it more manageable as more pieces are added

violet pelican
#

I think I like the building the way it is. You have to be more creative with how you build stuff because of the limitations

tiny tiger
#

Finewood fences would serve well as the neat fences you want

#

the generic Minecraft style fences

violet pelican
tiny tiger
#

Unless they decide to go another route assuming they even add more fence types

Bats are so irritating! Unless you're near a surtling spawner. Then they're fun 🤣

idle storm

just avoiding Those Damn Bats for a little longer is worth not killing him

cedar sparrow

My friend made a base around two surtling spawners. If he had a raid, he kited the enemies to the flames

keen cliff
cedar sparrow
#

Yup. But you don't need any mats for a spawner

idle storm
#

braziers hung under your roof corners and ashwood spikes on your walls work too. A base in a charred fortress pretty much autokills bat raids because of the spikes it comes with.

cedar sparrow

I've never had a fortress base. But that's a good reason to do so in the future!

I tend to go for island bases, but that won't stop bats

cedar sparrow

When my friend and I return to the Ashlands to get our gear (we died there on a portal free world), I'll have to suggest finding a fortress ASAP

#

We had to do a run back to our other base, to collect more mats, and we died on our return. Respawned at the base, as we hadn't got a chance to set a spawn point in the Ashlands

idle storm

I'd suggest a safehouse on the beach first since valkyries and asksvin don't usually spawn there. So it's slightly safer.

Hold on I’ve just had a thought right, plains is the only biome so far without alternative armor, and there’s magic in the plains via the shaman, is there gonna be a sneaky slightly-earlier-than-mistlands mage set as the second set for the plains I wonder

#

Because I can totally see the shaman having his own unique drops that allow you to craft some weaker version of eitr food as well as some kind of mage weapon and like black metal mage armor

west pulsar
#

I think the mages were a sneek peak into the fact magic exists but you're a norseman and Norsemen dont just have magic which is why you go to the mistlands to get magic yagluth already had the context of being a grand mage

#

There will be 8 biomes at the end of the game having magic in the last 3 isnt bad

#

You yourself dont possess magic hence the need for magic food

#

Well its more accurate to say you don't possess eitr

#

You have the ability to use magic via a catalyst but no eitr

gray sand
rugged rock
#

Hey all! I’ve been loving this game, but the friends I’ve played with always give up just when we are getting into the Plains. I’m really looking for a group that I can play with that I can commit to playing and advancing further than that. Anyone here who is relatively new and looking to figure this game out together with me?

west pulsar
#

Yea but they're trees and one with the earth

shy marlin
#

Can also argue cultists have magic

west pulsar
pliant hatch
#

yw. 🙂

west pulsar
#

They seem to get their power via worship to probably fenrir

#

Which is more like mmm its closer to being a faith based magic like how a classic paladin gets powers of magic through faith cultists operate either via sacrifice or worship in a similar manner hence why they only seem to use fire magic as well

shy marlin
#

magic = magic

west pulsar
#

Yes and no its all magic but why matters

vocal rivet
#

"magic = magic" - D & D would like a word with you.

west pulsar
#

Magic is magic but not all magic is the same

shy marlin
#

Are we playing D & D or are we playing Valheim?

merry sun
# shy marlin magic = magic

Anyway, Greydwarf shaman use It "naturally" and many creatures seems to be kinda organic but still fantastic creatures

west pulsar
#

Theres an important distinction there. ( No but even in norse mythology magic isnt all the same flavor why and how matters)

merry sun
#

like spirits should be all Magic? or undead

#

wrath, ghost, draugr, skeletons

#

Fallen valk

west pulsar
#

Also remember that most of those enemies are considered shamans not mages again important distinction

tiny tiger
#

My point still stands that plains is the only biome missing additional armor sets

west pulsar
#

That i agree with but magic isn't the solution to me

tiny tiger
#

And it could be an even earlier version of a mage set

#

Realistically the only other options are the devs don’t plan to implement a second set to the plains or it will be a lighter armor

#

fenris fulfills the role of light armor for that stage of the game perfectly and it would be a waste to have another light armor

west pulsar
#

I also think magic at that point in the game would either be too strong of basically fall into being useless. Instead i propose a middle ground an armor set that is resistant to blunt but weak in armor

#

The problem with mid game magic is either it MUST fall off or it's overpowered

#

Instead make more frostner like weapons with elemental damage in the plains

tiny tiger
#

Well I mean when you get eitr in mistlands it will be immediately replaced

#

but it would provide an earlier start to levelling up magic

west pulsar
#

Unneeded i say make weapons that do fire and poison within the plains we need more poison type weapons and frostner is plenty good in plains

#

Make a 2 hand flame axe instance or if not flame at least hot

tiny tiger
#

you have poison arrows from the swamps, draugr fang from swamp/mountains and then the jotun bane immediately after plains in the mistlands

west pulsar
#

Yea thats only 2 weapons and an arrow

#

Ashlands doesn't count atm because its endgame

#

But again poison is less versatile so I'd like to see it hit harder

#

More enemies are resistant or outright immune

tiny tiger
#

Maybe instead of poison a way to inflict the tarred debuff on enemies

#

Then you could combo that with fire arrows as I’m pretty sure it makes you weak to fire

west pulsar
#

You mean like the paralyzed effect?

#

Too strong

tiny tiger
#

The tarred effect that tar inflicts

west pulsar
#

Yea it's just a weaker paralyze

merry sun
west pulsar
#

I agree but i propose elemental weapons and armor with elemental resistance

nocturne wolf

The porcupine was already on the right track.

west pulsar
nocturne wolf
#

west pulsar

west pulsar
vital umbra
#

mistlands opened up the door to more magical things, it feels like its sorta locked behind that for me anyways.

#

eitr and all that

west pulsar
#

Or give us lighting weapons in plains or even lightning arrows something its such an under used damage type

#

Its like the devs forgot it existed

vital umbra
#

thaat i do more approve of

west pulsar
#

I still want stronger fire arrows though idk why they are so weak

vital umbra

i meaan i remember them being viable enough in the mountains and black forest

they're 'weak' most of the time cuz you craft them in the meadows lol

west pulsar

A better one

tiny tiger

Literally tar + fire arrows for an even stronger version would work

west pulsar

west pulsar

Fair i dont die often though but if you have no armor then the repellent is nice

#

Well the only other thing I'd worry about if you're naked is growth

#

But otherwise lox are about as good at tracking as a Walmart employee trying to move 35 shopping carts and fulings are easily avoided

#

The game is easy on the mechanical level and the devs know its why they throw like 30 enemies at you at any given time in the Ashlands

livid zenith
#

That’s why I enjoy Ashlands, it’s a good challenge over other things

west pulsar
#

For me its not hard just tedious

#

Idk im not a fan of like "hard" via just throwing a fuck ton of enemies to the point of you either have to back them up 500 feet to out tech them or you just spam magic in a firefight because without magic you'll die if you try to just trade because you're not parrying 15 charred when 6 are shooting you

livid zenith
#

Hard via harder to dodge and better traking enemies would be prefferable, but it’s still fun to roll, parry, and fight with melee in the middle of everything, even if it’s stupid and probably will result in death

you can put it on an item stand for decoration

west pulsar

It should make potions last longer or work like feasts but drinkable

kindred hare
#

ok. and for dragon boss. fire arrows or poison. the wiki is a bit confusing on which is better

west pulsar
#

Do the math

plush umbra
#

obsidian is usually best, poison is only best if you can't shoot more than 1 arrow every 4 or so seconds

#

and fire is just not great. obsidian's 52 pierce, she's neutral to pierce, so that's 52 damage.
fire arrows are 11 pierce and 22 fire, she's weak to fire so that's 22 x 1.5 + 11 = 44 damage, still less than obsidian despite the weakness.

west pulsar
#

Fire arrows suck sadly

kindred hare
#

yea. but they are easy to make. obsidian i dont have much of yet

plush umbra
#

poison arrows have more total damage than obsidian, but that's assuming you let the DoT tick in its entirety. if you shoot another arrow before the previous one is done ticking, the previous one's damage is just cut off by the new one

west pulsar
#

Another reason poison needs a buff

livid zenith
# west pulsar Fire arrows suck sadly

Not necessarily bad, but they’re unlocked in the first biome and a new fire arrow never becomes available, despite new fire materials becoming available. They fall behind

What’s so expensive? Obsidian is plentiful, wood is plentiful, feathers are easy to get I have 5 stacks so far

Obsidian is plentiful but it's still a pain to get and you have to actively go out of your way to get it, needle arrows just happen naturally through progression

vital umbra
#

but they're like green and i don't like them

shy marlin

and obsidian is much better used for frost arrows anyways, that's the biggest thing

tiny tiger

Needle arrows take a lot more time to get the same amount in comparison unless you are also actively going out your way to hunt every deathsquitos

Arguably better than both needle and obsidian

Obsidian breaks in one hit with max iron pick at level 40 so it’s really not that bad and you get like 4-6 obsidian per node or something? Just go through literally any portal you have to any mountain large enough

shy marlin

tiny tiger

I think you are exaggerating how much of a hassle it is to gather obsidian when you are in the mountains

shy marlin

it's literally zero effort vs some effort, and why would you EVER waste obsidian on an arrow that's not frost because frost arrows are crazy strong

vital umbra
#

not going into the blackforest until eikthyr, the swamp until the elder, the mountains until bonemass, the plains until moder, the mistlands until yagluth, and so on and so forth, i cant stand the thought.

tiny tiger

If you are hunting for drakes you may as well gather obsidian too

Ironically I am chronically low on greydwarf eyes from all the eye scream I’ve been eating

vital umbra
#

i have almost no uses for carrots at this point but i want to level farming so i still diligently harvest them, my chest is full so they just go in the obliterator and it saves time finding trees ✨

#

bro is trying to rap, ironically chronically.

tiny tiger
#

I have like 4 stacks of carrots chilling and around the same in seeds I guess they’ll be good for chickens tho when I get those

#

boars eat carrots too right?

unborn nexus
#

thor mysteriously wondering why the promising warrior is destroying carrots enmass for coal

#

yeah boars eat carrots

tiny tiger
#

Plains and above is it worth investing in boars now? I didn’t bother taming earlier and other than to have a nice boar farm I don’t see what use I’ll have in them, I have plenty of leather scraps by now

vital umbra
#

can the scythe be used on mistlands things

tiny tiger
#

nope unless they added that in in a patch

vital umbra
#

why would that not be a thing

tiny tiger
#

who knows

shy marlin
#

because irongate makes very questionable design choices sometimes

unborn nexus
tiny tiger

which I also don’t have 🤦‍♂️

vital umbra

tiny tiger
#

Screw it I’ll go tame lox

unborn nexus
#

given you still need to harvest them via butcher knife but it saves you the trouble of finding things to kill

#

why would a scythe be needed for a giant mushroom though

vital umbra
#

i have infinite fucking lox meat trying to get trophies for the fishing bait so i don't need to tame any more for anything

vital umbra

not last i remembered

unborn nexus

you mean the birch trees?

tiny tiger

Birch seeds, although you get less then 1 per tree

#

vital umbra

shy marlin

vital umbra
#

i always got green ass trees in the plains

unborn nexus
#

180 with the shield to find... nothing

shy marlin
#

what likely happened is you got a birch sapling that was plains flavored, and you then deposited it back into the chest of your previous birch saplings from the meadows, and when you planted it used the meadows version from previous saplings

vital umbra
#

seriously

tiny tiger
#

Why does the game differentiate by where the birch seeds were from and not what biome they’re planted in, are you sure that’s how it works?

vital umbra
#

why aren't they just like "yellow birch seed"

unborn nexus
#

planteverything wins again

tiny tiger
#

What happens if you mix the two types together do you get a stack of gold and green trees

shy marlin
#

ye it becomes mixed

tiny tiger
#

That seems so odd

shy marlin
#

not sure on the priority of which gets used first but if i deposit 5 meadows birch saplings and 5 plains birch, it stacks to 10 saplings, but when you go and plant them you'll still get 5 of each flavor

vital umbra

i kinda wish that like....starred enemies had a higher trophy chance...and the 2 starred enemies just had unique trophies.

tiny tiger

bonemass should be able to go between the trees like it’s made of blob shouldn’t it just be able to squeeze through

since fish can be used as trophies and higher and higher sizes of them it'd be cool if the same happened with like hunting animals, trophy hunting.

i oughta make a ballista dedicated to deathsquitos....killing my fucking chickens...

tiny tiger

Those poor chickens lol

#

I can’t tell whether you mean the ballista is killing them, deathsquitos, or both lol

vital umbra
#

deathsquitos, i haven't placed ballistas yet

#

they don't seem horribly expensive

#

i wonder if it might be worth it to just build a base ballista with no allocations...for raids and stuff.

#

how powerful are they with like black metal...bolt...things

tiny tiger

Should work well as long as it can’t aim into the base

although they do only hold like 40 ammo right

doesn't have to be an item from the recipe, all those actions just nudge the game to check

that said, the character does also have to have the relevant items "discovered" of course hehe

what biome is the worst to base in

shy marlin
#

mountains or ashlands prolly

pliant hatch
#

Swamp isn't that good either

plush umbra
#

as much as i love mountains, yea drakes are tedious to make your base safe from

shy marlin
#

at least with swamp you can be close to surtling cores, coal, and iron

plush umbra
#

and be safely suspended above the ground by unbreakable trees

pliant hatch
#

You also need to deal with a constant effect of being wet

plush umbra
#

unless you have a roof

shy marlin
#

me personally i don't like mountain bases because it means having to haul metals up a mountain, but if you build a good road system maybe it's not that bad idk

plush umbra
#

that's another problem yea

tiny tiger
#

Mountains bases just look cool tbh I plan to make a castle and if it’s right on the peak and you have workbench’s under the rocks around it shouldn’t be too bad

#

There’s always ballista set to drakes once you acquire mistlands gear

plush umbra
#

kinda what i did.
most of my favourite bases are on mountains but i won't deny that it's one of the worst biomes to build a base in hehe

shy marlin
#

never said they don't look cool, but the mechanics behind the mountain bases just aren't there compared to other biomes

tiny tiger
#

it must be a pain with all the sound of building attracting drakes and golems

plush umbra
#

and the cold if you died, can't leave your base without some frost resistance

fallen zephyr
#

As soon as you can, make two wolf capes; then you have one for recovering your corpse.

tiny tiger
#

Mistlands sucks for building bases imo

#

If you can pull it off it looks spectacular but the terrain is unruly and the mobs are very destructive

plush umbra
#

the uneven terrain is great for securing against grounded enemies the better way - preventing them from aggroing in the first place by not giving them anything to see. seekers only start flying if they're in combat iirc

#

imo the more unruly the terrain is, the better the base hehe flat terrain makes for boring layouts

tiny tiger
#

How many shots do ballista take to kill gjall

plush umbra
#

that would be a problem yea

shy marlin
#

Yes, if you work with the terrain it builds so much more character to a build, as for mistlands builds, i like building on an island with some grass (for crops) and spawns are generally a non issue

fallen zephyr
shy marlin

tiny tiger
# leaden elbow whenever i host for my sister over time theres ping that just gets worse and wor...

From a Reddit post 4 years ago, not sure if it still works this way:

The other day a dev commented on how this all works, in my oversimplified retelling, the first player into an area becomes the host of that area. If they have bad lag, everyone will have bad lag in that area.

So, you’re at the mercy of everyone’s connection, even if you are the server, if you weren’t the first one into that area.

leaden elbow
tiny tiger
#

It explains why it starts off good and gets worse overtime too, you switch host of the area after sometime

#

Seems like a workaround is having you be first everywhere but that doesn’t really seem like a good workaround tbh

leaden elbow
#

any way to change that? mod? whatever? Valheim is usually at 20% cpu usage when both in an area i can handle 2 seperate areas just fine

#

i dont get it why would valheim force an area on a worse computer

tiny tiger
#

I remember there is some kind of mod that is meant to make multiplayer better but I have no idea what it’s called or where you’d find it, I recommend doing some searching around see what you can find

leaden elbow
#

https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1570?tab=description

its this one but it both makes the game stutter like shit and "* The player who arrives in an area first is responsible for lag there. Ideally, the people with the best internet should be ahead of the pack or first through a portal, at least until Better Networking 3.0.*", which uh, hasnt been updated or the code worked on for over a year

#

hm i havent tried changing the settings

tiny tiger
#

Someone asked for feedback on the better networking mod 6 months ago and a guy replied “Not needed. Pretty sure the consensus was it was written by someone who didn't understand valheim's netcode originally. It had a pseudo effect for some, but for others it introduced new lag/crashes. If you're hitting the Steam data cap (or whatever the internal issue is, I don't quite remember at this point), Smoothbrain's Network mod is all you need.”

Maybe try out smoothbrain network mod
