Reaching isn't the problem.
Moder's drop is required to craft some "workbenches" and / or its items to process into the better food and even the last tier ship.
You can make it into Ashlands without, but with that ship, the journey is a lot less heating things.
I'm fully aware how moder's drop works
doesn't mean that you can't progression skip though, hell you can get Krom and Arbalest without killing any bosses
And I seriously doubt it's a good idea to fight any of the monsters in the biomes after the mountains on Swamp / mountain tier food.
well the obvious answer is because it's highly likely to get you killed, but denying the possibility of progression skipping is ridiculous
Because you will encounter monsters that are able to one hit kill you if you run with that low amount of health
Did someone deny the existance of progession skipping?
You can get +100hp with swamp food. Is it low for Plains for example?
150ish is the bare minimum I'd recommend for plains
I'm not denying it.
I'm just explaining why it isn't a good idea to skip killing Moder.
That's a big difference.
If Matter wants to go on and fight Fader on Mushrooms, Raspberry and Honey only, that's fine with me.
I don't think it's a good idea, but it's still fine with me.
Yeah, for newer players, progression skipping is a really daft suggestion.
I never suggested progression skipping
they asked what was possible to do without killing bosses and I answered
Would anyone like to start a new world with me? Have a deep need for a fresh start
best to ask in #1024264966712340510
okie, thanks! ❤️
If you want to do that, you will find great allies in the mountains. Which will even follow you when sailing as they can swim as long as you don't go too fast. Because if they can jump overboard, they will jump overboard.
However, you will need larger numbers of them when hitting mistlands and most likely even more in Ashlands.
You might find new allies in the plains and in Ashlands to help you.
Biggest problem is that none of these allies will follow you inside caves or some buildings; which means you can't fight none of the mini-bosses, wouldn't be able to gather much gold until you find a way to get trolls killed with those allies and thus will have a hard time to get the Meginjord, Dvergr Circlet and even a common fishing rod and bait; which are very useful later in the game.
Also, getting serpent meat will be quite hard and that will provide you with one of the best foods for the first three biomes.
Even feasts will be complicated to get, as it means killing animals. Only fish may be possible to gather as they wash ashore once in a while.
Speedruns are crazy, i watched a ton of them for general strats i could use. Only a handful of times i did some progression skipping just for the hell of it
you could cross the map in a cart if you so please, though im not sure if thats still a thing
if it's the black forest, why does it have blueberries and not blackberries
For the same reason the meadows don't have horses and cows: because the devs liked it better this way
we already have horses: Scarlet and I.
i actually never really wondered why, but why are the devs so adamant against horses? I would guess because they don't want to have to animate swinging a weapon from horseback and people are gonna want that? Or riding/mounted combat doesn't fit the game's combat flow
I dunno exactly, but we can't "officially" fight while riding a Lox.
Perhaps the animation combo would be too complicated?
I think you would have to ask devs themselves if you want their reason
I'm sure there's more reason to it than whatever is the reason we can't tilt our swings up/down by just 15 degrees
it's never as easy as just "adding a horse" - it's the time and resources pulled away from what they're currently doing with their smaller team
enemy: rules for thee but not for me
you add a horse, then you'd have people complaining they don't work well on boats, they fall into the ocean, they can't take them to new islands, etc
me getting stabbed in the face by a mosquito but my arms can't articulate up two degrees to hit it
we have that with tames now 🤷
exactly, and people have been complaining for years about it
a horse would just exacerbate the animal transport issue
Just use the slope combat fix mod. EZ.
is this going to be a problem or otherwise annoying to implement for online play?
Not everyone wants to play this game using mods.
I consider this a basic feature that shouldn't really need a mod to fix.
2 star seekers on top of the mine stairwell waiting to turn you into chow;
I guess ranged weapons suddenly stopped existing.
don't mind derek, he's been like this for years
I'm sorry, but no. I don't consider gamey "i can't swing upwards" workarounds acceptable.
What, entirely reasonable?
It's often overlooked, but with Wolves that problem is a lot less "annoying" as people think as these tames can actually swim.
Trick is to slow down on sailing so they can keep up with you.
I "transported" a pair of 2 star wolves from my main base to a plains area a 1/4 of the map away so I could breed them into an "army" to deal with Yag.
Well, Smiffe is adamant it's not changing, so there's not much we can do about it.
I put that guy on ignore a long time ago. 😁
Love you too ❤️
I know, I know. Smiffe seems to hate QoL changes.
thousands probably have
And thousands more love me, it's the way of the world.
That's fine. But I'm still gonna beat my drum about this because I really don't see a reason why not. Just fifteen degrees. Not like this would cause any exploits or problems and it'd make melee on inclines feel much better than having to shift around for a spot to fight on
Again, just repeating what Smiffe says (I'm not a programmer in any capacity) but I gather it's not as simple as people make out.
It's okay if it's not simple. Sometimes worthwhile things take work.
Yeah, and we've had hundreds of QoL fixes over the last 3 years. It's practically a different game since EA launch.
Item auto stacking is nice for sure, but I really do hope this falls in someone's crosshairs some time.
I doubt it.
AFAIK he's just the one standing between the devs and us.
And I don't think it's fair to dislike the messenger for bringing the bad news, is it?
at least they changed barley to 50 stacks
oh right, it was how much before? 20?
yeah 20
yah
it sucked
Hey guys, I am new to valheim and want a new friend i could duo with, or maybe trio, im looking for VC if possible too!
Smiffe’s been adamant about a lot of things not happening, that have since happened.
As was mentioned before, he doesn't exactly speak for the entire team, he can only speak to what he knows at the time.
yeah, that's why I don't take it as "set in stone"
I'm so glad we're still having this conversation.
derek hi
Yall someone give me something to do in valheim
Pick something to fist fight.
Roll a log into the water and do some log rolling, staying on it
-# I see someone's got a title promotion~
to be fair i was just responding to what you said
you kind of
invited the continuation of that conversation
eeeeeeee
hi scarlet
fill up your flametal chest
hey guys i cant seem to find a world file that we played last night i checked both world and worlds_local the world is there but its not last night date. anyone know why?
i sorted the date modified to latest but the latest there was like 2 days ago
That I am not sure. I think there's a backup history page in file management somewhere?
get your harpoon and get a pet drake
Go punch a drake to death 😄 should take you some time
I killed a gjall with a greatsword a few times
Next try it with fists 😉
it takes a harpoon and a buttload of stamina
now that just sounds like torture
Well if you have nothing else to do like our friend here... 😄
log rolling sounds more fun
fight fader on vh without getting hit
Also a potential activity, cut down the whole forest only using fallen logs (you can cut the first tree with axe to get started ofc)
...
Plant trees at the bottom of a steep hill and then one oak tree at the top, and play tree bowling
chop down the oak tree and see if you can get a strike as it rolls down towards the others
that sounds like a fun terrain modifying project. Build a slightly grooved slope to guide the log towards the other trees as it rolls down
so when using iron beams or bars to reinforce structures does it make a difference if its embedded in the material or whether it's affixed to the materials snap point?
dear diary
today i one-shotted a troll with a knife
it was funny
Not really, as long as it touches the hitbox it will provide support
sick thanks
L opinion
mods are the lifeblood of indie games like these
you can always find something that will make the game more fun
i mean for your attitude alone absolutely not
Easy now
Yes, Indeed.
Heres the thing, I do not Like mods.
I like the game valheim thats why i have stuck with it for years.
you don't seem to understand what opportunities modding offers
good for modders, idc i don't like mods.
you havent tried any
how do you know
you said so
Mods are fine, I just feel it's not ideal that too many things be left to them.
or certain things.
100% true and valid
actually I haven't really tried modded Valheim, I wonder what there is
modding tools are important to let the community give players the opportunity to make the experience more fun for their particular playstyle
yeah i'm not arguing against that but i also like valheim personally, and i dont care 🥴
i don't care who uses mods
thats hectic bro
glad you feel that way 🐦
i... would really like an extra bright lantern on the prow of my longship for coastal maneuvering in heavy fog. especially if i'm trying not to ground myself
the valheim devs seem to have a specific vision of how they want the game to function, so accessible modding is important to let players adjust the game to the way they want to enjoy it
e.g. slope combat
jesus don't get me started
I like the devs vision of it, and i play it.
I already had my rant, you can scroll up to it if you want, but suffice it to say I'd prefer that not be something you need to mod to address.
if you're so angry about vanilla valheim then why are you in the devs official server for it lol 😭
i appreciate sooo much the work they've put in, and they have conjured up what might be my favorite game 🧡
because i think amending this particular thing is a good idea that may help the gameplay experience of more people than just i so i pressure and suggest for it because i like the game and want the best for it.
idk what you were talking about and idrc mod the game if you want 🤷
I, Do not care, if people want to mod it or not, but if you're going to argue with me a vanilla enjoyer if something is better or not i will argue back..
Maybe it's a difference of perspective. Maybe more people than I think consider the awkwardness of fighting on a slope somehow fitting for Valheim; I've been finding it more and more annoying.
Its just valheim for me.
I do not understand why we don't want this changed with how sincerely I feel like this is something not functioning the way it should be
but i guess it is
I think as long as youre having a good time it doesnt matter how you play the game 🙂
has anyone suggested making polearms like spears, atgeir etc. have the unique ability to thrust down slopes
well yeah
Overall, yes, it's still workable, but I do consider it worth doing, for some areas more than others. Looking at you, Mistlands
the only thing id ask for a change is the early introduction of eitr in the game and eitr food and early magic.
its really just a positioning thing, it feeels like most of this conversation is in the context of the mistlands
ehhhhh
so youre not leveling a skill literally from level one so late in thje game
it seemed obvious to me that you should be able to skewer leeches with a long pointy stick from safety but you cant
Mistlands has a heavy part in it, but any biome can have enough variation to throw an attack over or under and you can still get hit.
Leeches I have an admittedly surprisingly easy time with considering the way melee works. Maybe I'm used to gaming the elevation, but it still feels, well, gamey
like when you're aiming in a sidescroller shooter and the character only aims straight horizontally, like Metal Slug or something.
Valheim combat has always been janky on slopes
You learn to work with it since we are still in early access
I wouldn’t be surprised if the team fix up a few things like that by 1.0
okay but the early access part isnt relevant if there arent any publicly mentioned long term plans to work on it
But it is better to apply that sort of fix after you’ve added all the basics
Early access or no, I know many things have been attended to and I do like it. Maybe this particular thing isn't as pressing.
in gamedev integral systems like the combat are usually the first thing you have to get absolutely right before working on content so it seems like a strange outlier
it'd feel weird seeing this fix packaged with the last boss and full release
really makes you think doesnt it
for me that is
because i'd feel like I had the wrong impression about them not caring about it at all
I am quite sure the team will invest every effort to push the game to excellence in all areas - especially combat and building - as those are some of the main features ❤️
hi sildar
It's true, I feel most at home building my village and finding something to parry and then slap into next week.
to me it seems like the mojang case where the dev team is reluctant to change it since it could have far-reaching impacts on the combat experience
there are definitely a lot of cheese strategies it makes available since the enemy ai isn't programmed to back off
Look at how patiently and meticulously they have worked on the other items ingame - we didn’t get this far for no reason
Heyo Obi! 👋🤩🥳
I said I wouldn't go on my ramble again but it feels I already did. Anyways, I've had it in my head that just 15 degrees of up/down angling would be enough for those just-out-of-reach elevations without introducing (many) situations where you can melee an enemy that can't melee back.
is there somewhere where a dev has commented on slope combat saying "yes this is the intended experience"?
For mojang it kinda makes sense since it is a VERY simple game, but for Valheim all you really need is an axis swivel so you can attack or defend yourself based on how your character is standing
i would be very annoyed if they just flat said "never gonna change this" but it wouldn't be a deal breaker.
they've said that about alot of things and some of them not true i feel
no idea, just wait to see what they'll do pretty much.
Right now your character returns to a default position that is quite awkward considering it treats you as being on a flat surface and you are on a 45-90 degree incline
Nope - hence I am sure they will look into it
The axe middle attack is perfect against leeches
they could just explain that viking helmet technology restricts vision to only seeing enemies on a level field or above
using a spear throw on that is a bad idea
I mean if it’s in the middle of the water yeah but when they’re by the edge and you can pick it back up easily then it’s no issue
It would be nice if the abyssal knife came with the perk of being able to use it while in water
Gives it a unique twist and it’s around the time you start exploring swamps if you are fortunate enough to stumble upon a leviathan
I know we're supposed to use ships to handle water and the intention is clear through our very limited swimming endurance, but like... diving in and stabbing a serpent to death with a knife sounds absolutely Beowulf as hell and I wanna do that.
christ on a cross gjalls are so fucking annoying to fight with magic
just keep arby on you
wat
keep the arbelest on you, works great as a mage fighting gjall
thats not a mage weapon
you're right, but it's the best option 😄
Maybe they’re a bit hungry
I've seen skeletons. They look like they haven't eaten in forever!
ok how tf are you supposed to make corner roof with grausten
The corners are made of two separate pieces
I recommend adding them to the ends to flare the roof out too I think it would look really cool
Like a triangle out if you get what I mean
i killed eikthyr guys
Good job dude hope you’re ready for the Bronze Age it’s a lot of fun
yah, enjoy meadows and black forest! because first time in the swamp can be pretty brutal 😄
Bronze buckler and mace for swamp works well however you can’t go wrong with any of the bronze tier weapons tbh
Kinda based
How the hell am i gonna stop it from blowing its cage up
For what reason i already have every ashlands weapon and they're completely maxed
all i managed to do was a big /\ roof
That works
VALHEIM -1 ME- 0, SOLO vanilla is to much hahaha
Watched the glorious beauty that is the mistlands trailer 🥰
SO GOOD!
Love going throw the old animations
Where u at in game? Doing Plains? Or did u reach AShlands?
It comes out soon, so excited for mistlands!
nope swamp. haha. yeah sad.
Wait! Mistlands is coming out soon?
And I got to work. Blast it! 😦
...........why not?
for what reason do you decide to start gaming, decide to install steam, decide to buy valheim, decide everything in valheim, its all novelty, life is that 🌟
There is no reason needed for anything
it's icky outside 😦
Entirely valid enough
I will fill a chest of flametal for the reason of, Because i choose to do so.
You've just started playing?
Finally I can say something here.
Afternoon gjall.
That really doesn't roll of the tongue the same Morgning gjall does.
did you get muted?
Work has been a female dog.
wording it like that really does make me think you got muted for saying that
I wasn't though. The moment I got to work it was one thing after the other and it seems its not done yet.
Got to go again.
good luck and dont overwork
I find "Hi" works well ;P
The easiest stone is in Plains but, yes, don't try it in silver gear.
the spikey ones in the mountains are the best because you can just cut the bottom part just like the stone pillars in the plains
I didn't say best, I said easiest. For time invested, I'm still arguing for Plains.
hi
true, the mountains can be a good alternative if your plains biome is out of stone pillars
Hello there!
just at the cost of alittle bit extra time
Silver gear with root chest is more than good enough for plains lol???
10 damage from deathsquitos, like 30-40 from fulings
It should be.
Just gotta watch out for tars and nearby berserkers or a sneak shaman or torch fuling
like padded at lvl 1 is maxed wolf armor
yes it is certainly enough
why does it rain every time i start working on building a dock? 😦
shamans always open with the shield afaik so one sneaking up on you is more or less impossible.
Maybe the gods are telling you to put a roof over your dock lol
a roof wont help me lay the stone foundation from a raft while waves are tossing me all over
Ah fair enough just wanted to include it just in case, in my experience I’ve only ever been assassinated by nearby tar while mining for rocks in the plains
how about make the main part above the waves and have the side ones coming in lower, I’m guessing you want to be able to easily access the ship storage from the dock?
i keep wasting stone because i'll go to lay a block and a wave will cause it to move right as i click. then when i dismantle the stone sinks
Is the water particularly deep? If not use the hoe to first raise it up a bit, maybe you can do it with the waves bringing you low enough.
I’m super early game, just defeated the first boss, what’s the best way to farm the scraps from boars?
Explore more meadows for boar runestones and abandoned villages. Or tame boars and breed them. Starred boars if you can. You can feed them raspberries and mushrooms.
Thanks, appreciate that
For me the easiest way to tame boars is making a pit, floor over it, lure boar on it, destroy floor so boar drops down, toss in food, floor over it again, run away and sneak back and wait.
Works for all the tameables.
cant you parry a boar with your fist and it stuns it?
Don't know, doesn't help with taming though, as long as the boars are agitated they won't tame.
instead of the floor method you can also just shove them in with a shield. Though their damage is low enough that a palisade wall works fine too, a pit is only necessary for wolves and upwards.
is the any chance to get boar with 2 star ?
if it randomly spawned more than 800 meters from the world's center, there's a 1% chance for each boar to be a 2-star.
within 800 meters, only boars that spawned from a boar runestone or abandoned village can have stars, which never respawn.
Oh it applies to the village spawns too? 👀
For more info: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Boar#Spawning
Yeah, wiki has it, never noticed that 😅
boar runestone boars are more common/plentiful so people tend to forget about the village ones
Yep, can confirm 😄 i just did exactly that xD
Guys, am I the only shocked how bad roundpole fences are?
I always use them to tame boars in such a pen... never found them bad 😄
i just buld a small pen, lure them in close it up and then throw food and go a way 😄
Damn I always murder the rune boars
idk but they're pretty aukward to deal with, they don't snap together and they're inclined down, they're not straight
It’s just meant to give a rough looking fence look
yeah they are meant to be that way so you can place them like you want them and they are super useful for taming boar 😄
if you want a proper straight fence just build one out of wood beams.
Change direction each time, make a zigzag pattern.
i never dug a pit to tame them, just use them fences 😄
Yeah the fences do fine for boars
Idk i think they should be like straight fences, kinda like minecraft or something you know?
no try to do that with wolves mind you...not even stone is sturdy enough to keep them in... pit needed for wolves
I like them a lot adds visual interest - if everything was just straight up and down it would be boring
Hm then maybe add 26 and 45 degree versions?
they can be used to block windows so you can see throug but the bats are kept out too ... did that for a chicken coop 😄
Really though my main problem isn't even the fences, it's that they don't snap together in a well, satisfying way, you have to align them, unlike wooden beams or whatnot
i mean the boars will get agitated one way or the other what i meant is parrying the boar near the hole and when its stunned kíck it into the hole
well you can always use beams and posts to make a straight fence that snapps in place - you are not required to use them if you do not like them 😄
Yeah I guess that's a solution but if you can make a game better you should, prob gonna put this in a suggestion somewhere. I feel games can be so much better with even the tiniest details being fixed
Also possible, you do need to know how to parry though and for a first time player that is not always evident and the timing is something you need to learn.
for a new player yeah for experienced players this is the fastest way to get the boar in the hole
parry and kick the bastard in the hole
if that would make the game better to change them fences is debateable... there are people that like them just the way they are... opinions are free... but i do not think it would be better if it was changed 😄
Instead of changing them why not just add more fence types
I mean seeing the game is still not finished, it's pretty safe to assume everything isn't perfect still, including fences, i think they could probably make a better model aswell. One with 2 poles, one on each side and sticks between
That's also another solution, but then you don't want to add too much, otherwise building will be overwhelming and then it becomes minecraft
they said they will make changes to every biome for the 1.0 but it is everybodies guess what that will be - so... possible... we do not know... i'd prefer them like they are - they could add other types or not ... we will have to wait and see
More build pieces are always welcome, though I could see there being benefit from making it more manageable as more pieces are added
I think I like the building the way it is. You have to be more creative with how you build stuff because of the limitations
Finewood fences would serve well as the neat fences you want
the generic Minecraft style fences
I think adding a few new things for every biome would be good. AND i'd really like if they added seeds for blueberry and raspberry bushes
Unless they decide to go another route assuming they even add more fence types
Right now i am thinking real hard about what "Run" to start next for my video recording... so hard to decicide...got a lot of ideas and can not do them all 😦
Yeah, although I think corewood would make more sense you know? Fences need to be strong and all
What idea sounds the most fun to you out of the ones you have
That would probably make for the best video
Either most fun or most challenging
I have a list of 8 possible Series with different difficulty and restrictions and so on... some for more building centered videos some for more gameplay centered ideas... if i knew what sounded most appealing i would not have to think so hard... I think all of them are nice ideas and would make interesting videos... sigh
i will have to chew a little more on that i guess 😄
Do you wanna share them and I can help you choose what I think? I think asking a large variety of people would benefit to see what would engage people the most
If you want to invest the time i would DM you and we can talk it out out there and not clutter up the chat here?
there are abominations with stars ?
Sure, my dms are open
I’m yet to encounter one
Do starred trolls only spawn within a certain radius away from spawn?
If so then maybe the same would apply to abominations
There might be xD Dunno honestly, seems likely. havent seen one myself tho.
Nope
damn its weird but mistwalker is so good on melee vh. the fast swing time, the slow, the spirit dmg. all of that is so valuable
stared monsters isn't allowed to spawn within a certain radius from the starting temple
Can you confirm the existence of starred abominations?
does not exist
I see, thank you
some monsters don't have stared versions
Imagine starred deathsquito xD
yeah 😄
Is there a reason for it? Game balancing or to be added etc
2 star deathsquito. probably kills the human behind the monitor
amongst other things
abominations are just a rare monster, that stared versions doesn't really make much sence
Most likely, and that humans immediate family probably too
I wish to breed abominations
and all a stared version would do is gatekeep parts of the world from players 😄
then, I will ride them
Makes sense
we got the dreadlock elephants, and the lava doggos, it's time to ride eldritch horrors
I tried riding a volture earlier and probably reached the height of a pine tree before I slid off
😄
when breaking stone pillars in the plains do chisle away at the bottom or dig underneat it?
chisel away at bottom
I just discovered that if you jump against a biting morgen you can get launched very far
i dug out the entire bottom. it didnt break, so i chisled off the bottom of the rock and its still here... i might chisle a bit higher then build a base on the side of a giant floatin grock
posted a picture in the screenshots channel
Hmm keep chiselling away at the bottom and it should eventually break, also maybe make some more space around the closest point to the ground before you do so
it broke
It’s just the hitboxes, they are bigger than they appear
Are they? It feels like they're slightly rarer than trolls.
Rare?? I seem to find them without effort 🤣
They're always super rare when you're hunting for them
I would say they are quite a bit rarer than trolls (maybe the spawn requirements are a bit stricter) i certainly find way less of them compared to trolls 🙂
True
Trolls also have the advantage of having a poi that nearly guarantees a spawn for them, I think that skews the numbers in their favor~
No such thing for aboms
Two spawns, even
-# i've never had trouble with either
I think that both inside and outside trolls around the troll caves have 33% chance of spawning iirc
iirc it was 33% for outside, 75% for inside
At least for trolls yes, and i imagine it could be similar to morgens
Reason I build Bronze Armor is troll rarity.
Reason I almost never have Root armor is Abom rarity.
Oddly, I have really good luck with building the Fenris set.
yea i haven't checked for morgen caves, but so far i haven't seen one without a morgen in it, the spawn is just very delayed sometimes
I have a knack for finding troll caves. Just need to build a forest base, amd bingo, I find a troll cave happens to be nearby 🤣
Facts actually. A friend and I had nearly fully looted a putrid hole, then I was smacking the meat piles and it popped outta the ground and smoked us cuz we where cornered
Hecc, if anything the time it normally would take me to gather enough bronze for an armor set is more than getting enough for a troll set
Yeah. The second that pickaxe hits the ore is when trolls come alive
so this is what i dont understand.
I fight bonemass. i get 3/4th health taken if i get hit.
It takes a billion years to regen even a handful of points. wtf do i do
Get health mead 🙂
I am a quick miner. 😁
got poison resistance, good food and the rested buff?
yea
You using poison resist mead? Heath mead?
Hey, whatever works for ya~
i staarded a health mead i can go get it. wasnt sure if it would cancel the other mead buff
Nah
Before any boss fight you should be rested and have meads prepared. And don't fight at night when it's cold.
will bonemass despawn if i take too long.
Nope. He'll just regain health
Nope, but all mobs including bosses regen at rate of 100% hp per hour (and it will accelerate if you sleep)
hes not down too much. so no big deal
What weapon are you using?
block his melee attacks
run out of the poison vomit
kill adds ASAP to avoid being overwhelmed
iron mace. if i need to i have stagbreaker too
Iron mace is great 🙂
Block? A boss?
Are you nuts? 😂
Make sure you have the best shield you can, so you can parry
blocking his melee only does a little. no reason. cant seem to parry him
Why? You can
Why would you waste the stamina?
Bosses cant be staggered 🙂
easily doable on normal
Pointless on all difficulties.
banded shield. so was considering going to a tower, since no parry
Dodging costs less stamina and is zero damage vs. More stamina and still taking damage.
it levels your blocking skill, so not entirely
but yeah, sword & board is mostly for people who enjoy playing s & b, not because it's necessary or the most effective
It still allows you to stay close enough to hit back, instead of running out of range
dodging wwas working better. im just not good at it
That'll work too. But that also needs stamina
yea. thats the biggest deal
banded shield is enough to block Bonemass, no reason to eat the speed penalty for a tower shield
Stamina meads are your friend
yea i have a minor one fermenting
If all else fails, load up on arrows and range attack him
holy my bog witch swamp has 13 crypts (so far) and 2 surtling spawners within like 20m from eachother
im in iron and coal heaven rn
Oooh, sweet!! Build yourself a nice smelter yard near the spawners
if you can't handle Bonemass you are not ready for the mountains imo. Also overrelying on bows just screws you once you reach Mistlands.
i usually get around 60-80 iron per crypt so im estimating a minimum 700 iron in this swamp if i get lucky
ive already beat him once. a while ago.
I like my bow, and do very well in the Mistlands with one
Though I do like knives and swords also
Whatever works at any given time
whats the point of knives.
Cue a handful of stupidly underproductive crypts, now you've said that 🤣
Speed
Quick stabby, decent parry multiplier, pierce/slash split damage pretty versatile
no speed penalty, low sta cost, high attack speed, no forward movement when attacking. Also 6x backstab modifier and a long-range secondary with high damage & stagger.
but say, you get 3 swings per 1 sword swing. the dmg of those 3 would have to outdo the 1 swing of a sword to matter right?
The abyssal razor has to be my favourite early game weapon
i think i have stuff for htat.
i have the shell thingies
these potions def help with bonemass
Low animation commitment too, you can roll out of the way faster after a knife attack than a sword attack
Make it and upgrade it. It's worth it
oh good point
Oh, wait, in the context of bonemass knives might not be super useful for you?
High pierce damage resistance
mace all the way for Bonemass
True. Not for Boney. But worth it for entering the mountains
x0.5 slash, x0.25 pierce, yea 😅
Oof, yeh~
yea not this time. but for later. i only made it to hador or whatver. the dragon. last i played. but pc was garbo so my pc started to not have enough fps for the swamps and mountains with rain
Or skip Boney and go Mountains. Use stagbreaker to find silver. Make Frostner, and THEN do Boney. Piece of piss with Frostner!
just killed hi
Sweet!!
Better to not recommend tier skipping for people still getting familiar with the game...
im familiar. just been ages, and i was not paying attention the first time. so the mechanics of meads i didnt know
otherwise i do.
Well, you succeeded in your mission.
in this case there's pretty much zero harm in it. If anything it's safer since killing Bonemass also unlocks wolf raids. And the wishbone is a waste of an inventory slot, at least you can get some other use out of a hammer.
yes. like bats.

Anyway, he's a gamer. More than I was when I started playing. His comments tell me that much
Bats are so irritating! Unless you're near a surtling spawner. Then they're fun 🤣
just avoiding Those Damn Bats for a little longer is worth not killing him
My friend made a base around two surtling spawners. If he had a raid, he kited the enemies to the flames
you can also do the same with a bonfire
Yup. But you don't need any mats for a spawner
braziers hung under your roof corners and ashwood spikes on your walls work too. A base in a charred fortress pretty much autokills bat raids because of the spikes it comes with.
I've never had a fortress base. But that's a good reason to do so in the future!
I tend to go for island bases, but that won't stop bats
can i do anything with old equpment. like my bronze stuff
there's not much reason to make one atm but if you can stand the atmosphere they're pretty awesome. Lots of building space too
Keep it for tombstone runs
basically you can just slap down some grausten floors over the outer walls and you already have a funtional base that's as safe as it gets in Ashlands.
Yeah. I had plans to do one, but never got around to doing it
We're doing something similar but we keep our FOBS pretty simple. Dug a big hole in the middle to tame Askvin. Lol
When my friend and I return to the Ashlands to get our gear (we died there on a portal free world), I'll have to suggest finding a fortress ASAP
We had to do a run back to our other base, to collect more mats, and we died on our return. Respawned at the base, as we hadn't got a chance to set a spawn point in the Ashlands
I'd suggest a safehouse on the beach first since valkyries and asksvin don't usually spawn there. So it's slightly safer.
Not this time it wasn't 🤣
We were mobbed.
I have lots of the wrong kind of luck when it comes to attracting enemies. I once had 4 Valkyries up above, one in each direction
That raid isn't unlocked by killing Bonemass, but by killing bats in Frost Caves.
Both actually. You can kill all the bats you want and grab Fenris early and never have to worry about bat raids until you kill him.
Conversely, you can kill Bonemass and still get bat raids, even if you never kill a bat. One only has to be killed on the world in order for the raid to unlock. It doesn't have to be killed by you
A bat just has to fly through a brazier fire and die
i forgot how to survive the mountain cold.
Fires, frost mead, or a wolf cape
how many pelts for wolf cape
does shelter stop it alone too? i can't recall--i know going INSIDE the frost caves will
wolf cape also requries silver i think
i can survive long enough to get some. the pelts will be harder
I'd think silver would be the most timeconsuming, but it's 6 pelts
oh and a trophy--that's an RNG issue
just common enough, could not so unlikely get on getting the 6, but then...RNG jesus frowns upon you...
ig i also forget how the wishbone works to see silver.
yeah and digging it out and etc., meanwhile you're attracting every golem etc. on the mountain with every pick swing
it beeps
Sorry, do you know where can i find people to play in valheim ?
#1024264966712340510 should help.
equip wishbone, and it beeps faster the closer you are to hidden treasure. Not just silver
thx
I wish the wishbone added a little necklace with wishbone on it, or something that added a visual little indicator like the strength belt does when equipped--love all those little nice attention to detail touches Valheim so full of
Hold on I’ve just had a thought right, plains is the only biome so far without alternative armor, and there’s magic in the plains via the shaman, is there gonna be a sneaky slightly-earlier-than-mistlands mage set as the second set for the plains I wonder
Because I can totally see the shaman having his own unique drops that allow you to craft some weaker version of eitr food as well as some kind of mage weapon and like black metal mage armor
I think the mages were a sneek peak into the fact magic exists but you're a norseman and Norsemen dont just have magic which is why you go to the mistlands to get magic yagluth already had the context of being a grand mage
There will be 8 biomes at the end of the game having magic in the last 3 isnt bad
You yourself dont possess magic hence the need for magic food
Well its more accurate to say you don't possess eitr
You have the ability to use magic via a catalyst but no eitr
There is magic in the Black Forest via the shaman.
Hey all! I’ve been loving this game, but the friends I’ve played with always give up just when we are getting into the Plains. I’m really looking for a group that I can play with that I can commit to playing and advancing further than that. Anyone here who is relatively new and looking to figure this game out together with me?
Yea but they're trees and one with the earth
Can also argue cultists have magic
I'm sure you will find a bunch in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
Yea true but the type they seem to have is a bit different
thank you! 😊
yw. 🙂
They seem to get their power via worship to probably fenrir
Which is more like mmm its closer to being a faith based magic like how a classic paladin gets powers of magic through faith cultists operate either via sacrifice or worship in a similar manner hence why they only seem to use fire magic as well
magic = magic
Yes and no its all magic but why matters
"magic = magic" - D & D would like a word with you.
Magic is magic but not all magic is the same
Are we playing D & D or are we playing Valheim?
Anyway, Greydwarf shaman use It "naturally" and many creatures seems to be kinda organic but still fantastic creatures
Theres an important distinction there. ( No but even in norse mythology magic isnt all the same flavor why and how matters)
like spirits should be all Magic? or undead
wrath, ghost, draugr, skeletons
Fallen valk
Also remember that most of those enemies are considered shamans not mages again important distinction
My point still stands that plains is the only biome missing additional armor sets
That i agree with but magic isn't the solution to me
And it could be an even earlier version of a mage set
Realistically the only other options are the devs don’t plan to implement a second set to the plains or it will be a lighter armor
fenris fulfills the role of light armor for that stage of the game perfectly and it would be a waste to have another light armor
I also think magic at that point in the game would either be too strong of basically fall into being useless. Instead i propose a middle ground an armor set that is resistant to blunt but weak in armor
The problem with mid game magic is either it MUST fall off or it's overpowered
Instead make more frostner like weapons with elemental damage in the plains
Well I mean when you get eitr in mistlands it will be immediately replaced
but it would provide an earlier start to levelling up magic
Unneeded i say make weapons that do fire and poison within the plains we need more poison type weapons and frostner is plenty good in plains
Make a 2 hand flame axe instance or if not flame at least hot
you have poison arrows from the swamps, draugr fang from swamp/mountains and then the jotun bane immediately after plains in the mistlands
Yea thats only 2 weapons and an arrow
Ashlands doesn't count atm because its endgame
But again poison is less versatile so I'd like to see it hit harder
More enemies are resistant or outright immune
Maybe instead of poison a way to inflict the tarred debuff on enemies
Then you could combo that with fire arrows as I’m pretty sure it makes you weak to fire
The tarred effect that tar inflicts
Yea it's just a weaker paralyze
The mid game shouldnt have Magic, only late game
I agree but i propose elemental weapons and armor with elemental resistance
Why do we need these
The porcupine was already on the right track.
like frostner, root armor and fenris armor 🧐
Because its fun idk why you're such a hater to things that can exist because they're fun
I never said I hate anything, I’m just asking why valheim needs elemental weapons and armor
Doesn't always need to be some massive meta grind sometimes i just want to use the fun weapons
Because they already exist just make more
mistlands opened up the door to more magical things, it feels like its sorta locked behind that for me anyways.
eitr and all that
Or give us lighting weapons in plains or even lightning arrows something its such an under used damage type
Its like the devs forgot it existed
thaat i do more approve of
I still want stronger fire arrows though idk why they are so weak
i meaan i remember them being viable enough in the mountains and black forest
they're 'weak' most of the time cuz you craft them in the meadows lol
Literally tar + fire arrows for an even stronger version would work
Hold on do fire arrows set tar pits on fire
I’ve never tested this but I will tomorrow
Dont believe so but It doesnt really matter
Frostner
Mind if I ask you a random question unrelated to Valheim?
sure?
You the same Scales that was on Argus Saga? 👀
nah
RIP, oh well.
Not the pits.
But they're quite good vs Growth.
Although the Frost arrows are a bit more useful.
But fire arrows are more fun when fighting those buggers. 😄
thing goes beep
beep goes slow if far, fast if close
it also finds treasure chests in the meadows, scrap piles in the swamps, silver in mountains(it's main use), but it can also locate silver necklaces in said mountains
there's 3 pointed rocks in a circle that can spawn in the mountains
sometimes it spawns empty but it usually comes with a skeleton/necklace
as for scrap piles, they are nice but swamps usually are too flooded to fully dig out the piles
it would be fun to have buried easter eggs wishbone could find in later biomes
You never used the wishbone on those areas where the stones are set up to look like a ship's hull?
those are in later biomes too?
Only in Meadows afaik
i mean plains, mistlands, ashlands
if someone is stubborn enough to walk around the ashlands with a wishbone equipped, throw him a bone and let him find something 🙂
1 gold piece and a letter that says: "get a life"
I know what you meant. But like I said, afaik those hull like structures are only found in meadows.
However, occasionally the wishbone is useful when you find a (finewood) ship wreck, but can't see the chest burried near / under it.
50/50
sometimes they spawn without a chest, but the stones lining it are great to mine out
Feel free to join me in vc and my world
Y'all should i make an Ashland base over the lava
If you want a base over there, it would be a better idea to pick something very fortified you had to conquer anyway.
Considering the walls are near indestructable it makes a very good base.
a lot more than you can build on lava.
only way to build over lava is on a stone pillar, then your whole base is at risk
Skybase over the lava
Should be possible
Why is it lame?
You should use what you can get in that area. Especially since most buildings over there are made from Grausten and are very easy to be destroyed. Even when having a shield up.
Not lame per say but its in the same realm as making terrain walls feel me?
To me it feels more like using a Draugr village as first or permanent base.
But I understand your feelings about it.
Well draugr villages are just wood huts not completely unbreakable and cramped cubes i mean IDEALLY what i should do i find one and get in without breaking the gate that way its full proof
Dont give the mobs an entryway
Im curious to see what i can cook up because i want it to be taller
exactly. build up terrain outside a corner to the height of the walltop and jump in.
that's how I always get into charred fortresses.
flametal pillars still sink?
I think it was changed to a 1% chance to sink on damage to the flametal nodes
well aren't I the lucky one. got most of it, though.
Nvm, wiki says 10%, maybe 1% was a public test thing
I legit hate getting flametal
I only mine one or two laviathans, after I have gear I get flametal from fortresses which are a lot more fun
Yea I'll be honest I have the unpopular opinion of not liking the Ashlands that much
I really enjoy most of Ashlands, but flametal veins and some of the gem balancing I’m not a fan of
I wish the weapons did more elemental damage not 10 like idgaf if its 20 less physical if that means i get 40 lightning damage
Instead they feel like glorified colors
My ranking overall that means looks enemies terrain weapons etc overall
Mountain
Meadows
Plains
Swamp
Ashlands
Black Forest
Mistlands
The only reason BF is lower than ash is Because the progression of copper and tin is just blehhhhh and looks wise it does the job but its just a darker meadows ngl
Mistlands is so pretty but it SUFFERS from insanely annoying terrain to navigate going into that biome isn't fun but I'll note that the weapons are my favorite in the game
Mistwalker and the demolisher just slap and the konan krom is cool
Mountain to me gets nothing wrong i have only one bad thing to say about it and that's the caves are kinda bland and boring to go through i wish more was done with them
Otherwise the mountain has my 3rd favorite boss my favorite weapon frostner i love the progression and look of wolf armor i like the looks the best
with the new meads, the mountains are much better
and the jumping mead for mistlands is great too
mistlands is by far my fav, if you can find a clearing with a tower in it, you can have yourself a beautiful base
i wish i still had my pics, but i lost them when the valheim server got hacked 😦
Mistlands is gorgeous i just hate walking through it mate
I mean the new meads feel like gimmicks ngl
They dont feel THAT useful idk if I'll be going out of my way to bring them on a sail journey
what? weight mead, anti-sting, running mead, jumping mead?
they're awesome, especially in areas where you're doing a lot of those things
Anti sting is for mosquitos the easiest enemy in the game. Running mead sure cuts time. Jumping i guess but i rarely use jumps spacing is eaiser
But seriously mosquitoes are genuinely the easiest enemy ever
they're easy until you get one from behind that you didn't see spawn
Skill issue
Do more camera spins and they're loud as shit i hear them from a mile away
ok, i think our time to chat is over, take care 😄
I mainly dislike squitoes when I’m doing death runs so I want to go fast and not avoid them, and also I can’t easily kill them because no stuff
Although with death runs I don’t want to risk a mead to dying to something else
Fair i dont die often though but if you have no armor then the repellent is nice
Well the only other thing I'd worry about if you're naked is growth
But otherwise lox are about as good at tracking as a Walmart employee trying to move 35 shopping carts and fulings are easily avoided
The game is easy on the mechanical level and the devs know its why they throw like 30 enemies at you at any given time in the Ashlands
That’s why I enjoy Ashlands, it’s a good challenge over other things
For me its not hard just tedious
Idk im not a fan of like "hard" via just throwing a fuck ton of enemies to the point of you either have to back them up 500 feet to out tech them or you just spam magic in a firefight because without magic you'll die if you try to just trade because you're not parrying 15 charred when 6 are shooting you
Hard via harder to dodge and better traking enemies would be prefferable, but it’s still fun to roll, parry, and fight with melee in the middle of everything, even if it’s stupid and probably will result in death
Yea my idea of fun combat isnt hit backstep hit dodge hit backstep etc
Souls game moment
I prefer parry hit parry hit while sidesteping archers
Souls mechanics without the part that makes those games fun
Don't worry we have Bluetooth parry in Valheim
Are we playing the same Ashlands bro i get like 10 melee dudes at once
Unlucky
I haven't even seen Ashlands
I got there and had like 6 spawners i could see
It’s possible to get only one swinging at once
So busy with building stuff that most of my time is stuck just building cool stuff
Yea but then theres a morgen and lava blobs and archers and whatever else its never just melee guys
That part’s unlucky, I usually get 2-3 on landing
Do I need a grandiose building with ornaments and decorations? No.
But is it darn cozy to do? HELL YEAH
Morgens spend most the fight rollong away and lava blobs self destruct when you run at them
Yea i had like 30 skills when i got there the first time my first impression was bad my opinion has improved but
True the morgen ai is DERPY
Asksvins are dangerous though. they recover fast when they lunge and they’re fast, tanky, and high damage
whats horn of celebration? does it do anything
Its a cup that you can drink mead from
iirc it was added for the 1(?) year early access anniversary and functions the same as other drinking horns - using it consumes mead from your inventory for no additional benefit
you can put it on an item stand for decoration
It should make potions last longer or work like feasts but drinkable
ok. and for dragon boss. fire arrows or poison. the wiki is a bit confusing on which is better
Do the math
obsidian is usually best, poison is only best if you can't shoot more than 1 arrow every 4 or so seconds
and fire is just not great. obsidian's 52 pierce, she's neutral to pierce, so that's 52 damage.
fire arrows are 11 pierce and 22 fire, she's weak to fire so that's 22 x 1.5 + 11 = 44 damage, still less than obsidian despite the weakness.
Fire arrows suck sadly
yea. but they are easy to make. obsidian i dont have much of yet
poison arrows have more total damage than obsidian, but that's assuming you let the DoT tick in its entirety. if you shoot another arrow before the previous one is done ticking, the previous one's damage is just cut off by the new one
Another reason poison needs a buff
Not necessarily bad, but they’re unlocked in the first biome and a new fire arrow never becomes available, despite new fire materials becoming available. They fall behind
fire probably still beats poison if your bows level is high enough to shoot really fast and thus miss out on most of the poison damage
Bile arrow when irongate
That sounds right, but in that situation obsidian, frost, silver, or iron arrows are better (and for Moder specifically, silver and obi are better). But fire arrows are cheap
what arrows then just keep using poison?
frost arrow
if you can just make a quick adventure to the plains with the root harnesk and kill some squitoes if you're looking for a pure pierce arrow that's easy to make and effective
https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/smdslq/arrow_types_vs_enemies/#lightbox - this is from like 3 years ago, not sure how accurate it is now, but i still feel like frosties work best
i like how they look
in my inventory and chests
doesn't make them good mechanically sorry 😐
is that guy that was angry and basically said i was egotistical for not modding the shit out of the game still around and trying to spread propaganda
I’m saving my needle arrows for mistlands
Currently have about 26 needles saved up
Needle arrows aren’t even that much better mechanically they only do 10 more damage
@shy marlin you'd have to be there, some people were, i liked the vanilla experience and somehow that really upset someone.
called modding the lifeblood of these indie games or something like that
that really weirded me out
factor in the cost
What’s so expensive? Obsidian is plentiful, wood is plentiful, feathers are easy to get I have 5 stacks so far
Obsidian is plentiful but it's still a pain to get and you have to actively go out of your way to get it, needle arrows just happen naturally through progression
but they're like green and i don't like them
and obsidian is much better used for frost arrows anyways, that's the biggest thing
Needle arrows take a lot more time to get the same amount in comparison unless you are also actively going out your way to hunt every deathsquitos
that's just not true lol
I agree that frost arrows are better tho
Arguably better than both needle and obsidian
always found it weird we never get upgrades for em
you're tellin me we fight fire mages, fire demons, and wolfman cultists that make fire by waving their hands around and a napalm packed blimp, but we're still stuck with wrapping tree sap on a stick and slapping feathers on it
(yes i know the fire staff exists)
prostitute powder should get more uses
Obsidian breaks in one hit with max iron pick at level 40 so it’s really not that bad and you get like 4-6 obsidian per node or something? Just go through literally any portal you have to any mountain large enough
deathsquitos actively seek you out tho
i go for a lox hunting trip and end up with a good amount of meat for pies/platters, with a nice side of bug noses
but if i'm in the mountains then i'm not in the plains
i've said it before, needle arrows happen naturally through progression, obsidian arrows you have to go out of your way to obtain
if i'm in the plains then obviously i am going to use needle arrows
at least the deathsquito comes to you
you can enter a biome without killing the previous biomes boss so ???
I just don’t see how that’s true, you have to go into the mountains for progression anyway
drakes remain an asshole from a distance, and there's a chance their corpse gets rocketed off into the distance
uh oh...my opinion will diverge here i'm afraid...
guys i have a horrible confession...i strictly adhere to progression 😔
i have lost a good many freeze glands because a drake went soaring off the mountain
I think you are exaggerating how much of a hassle it is to gather obsidian when you are in the mountains
it's literally zero effort vs some effort, and why would you EVER waste obsidian on an arrow that's not frost because frost arrows are crazy strong
not going into the blackforest until eikthyr, the swamp until the elder, the mountains until bonemass, the plains until moder, the mistlands until yagluth, and so on and so forth, i cant stand the thought.
If you are hunting for drakes you may as well gather obsidian too
but you don't hunt for drakes, it just happens naturally
And obsidian mining will bring drakes to you if they don’t spot you
not terribly heavy
on tier...i use obsidian in the mountains and needle in the plains, theres no real argument to use obsidian in the plains i don't think, frost sure.
when the weapon that hampers mobility exists
how does obsidian mining not happen naturally tho? Because it’s not a flying enemies that flies to you?
can't think of a game where mobility hampering mechanics/debuffs aren't annoying
spoilers but rocks don't aggro on you
golems draw aggro, might kill the drake if it flies low
Right but occurring naturally doesn’t mean it is just served to you on a platter, hunger is natural and that causes you to seek food not have food fly into your mouth
yall know exactly what i mean, crazy semantics
you know i did it on purpose chill
then you can watch the drake corpse get sent off the mountain like a tennis ball
You need obsidian for cooking upgrades too and there’s just no reason not to gather some when you are in the mountains
why would you EVER waste obsidian on an arrow that's not frost because frost arrows are crazy strong
plz plz plz read
sure you can argue frost arrows are better but eye scream is also better than onion soup so I wanna save my frost glands for that
obsidian arrows are just easy to acquire in bulk
typically that is why i use obsidian arrows yes
then you got me who never uses frost arrows
can't fight if you don't got the stats
if we wanna get into semantics that's not true
eating makes me happy
drakes? always looking for you
same with greydwarves
I would much rather see my stats higher than most other things
smack a rock at night in the BF with antler as a dinnerbell invitation
watch the tree people come runnin
I discovered a thing for stuff
Ironically I am chronically low on greydwarf eyes from all the eye scream I’ve been eating
i have almost no uses for carrots at this point but i want to level farming so i still diligently harvest them, my chest is full so they just go in the obliterator and it saves time finding trees ✨
bro is trying to rap, ironically chronically.
I have like 4 stacks of carrots chilling and around the same in seeds I guess they’ll be good for chickens tho when I get those
boars eat carrots too right?
thor mysteriously wondering why the promising warrior is destroying carrots enmass for coal
yeah boars eat carrots
Plains and above is it worth investing in boars now? I didn’t bother taming earlier and other than to have a nice boar farm I don’t see what use I’ll have in them, I have plenty of leather scraps by now
can the scythe be used on mistlands things
nope unless they added that in in a patch
why would that not be a thing
who knows
because irongate makes very questionable design choices sometimes
They can be a food source for your wolves
which I also don’t have 🤦♂️
use a scythe on fucking...carrots and turnips and onions...but not other things 😭
Screw it I’ll go tame lox
given you still need to harvest them via butcher knife but it saves you the trouble of finding things to kill
why would a scythe be needed for a giant mushroom though
i have infinite fucking lox meat trying to get trophies for the fishing bait so i don't need to tame any more for anything
or carrots or onions or turnips
items which you pull out of the ground irl, not attack the dirt with a blade.
mm
love that its a feature idc but seriously.
wolf taming, just hope a golem doesn't find the taming hole
Just gotta guard for 15 mins
Hell you could even go out of your way to mine some obsidian and actively bring the stone golems to you for the windows
I find it too clunky personally I’m more of a frostner guy
it looks cool tho
on my wall sure? When I’m fighting and messing up the timings not so much
I like that mistlands weapons and up start becoming named instead of Material-Weapon type(with some exceptions)
It reminds me of the UK
f of g(x) ? (sry calculus brainrot
)
forgot if the bound wisp works on regular mist but it's just cool to see it dance around
the forests in the plains look so pristine and i know theres no way to replace the golden trees so i am literally making a walled in park that i will not touch 🤩
but you can replace the golden trees
not last i remembered
you mean the birch trees?
huhh....? i know you can plant birch trees...but they're green even in the plains lol..
but yeah the golden colors is very nice
Man I could have sworn those trees were green
shame everything is out to murder you to appreciate it
little shrubs are green, the trees are golden.
cut down a "golden" tree and get some saplings from it and instantly replant it
I think that’s half the reason it’s so beautiful lol, you’ll be appreciating the view and suddenly a deathsquito is on your ass
the birch tree will have the yellow instead of green
since when
since release?
i always got green ass trees in the plains
i curse the soundtrack for having mosquito sounds in it
180 with the shield to find... nothing
what likely happened is you got a birch sapling that was plains flavored, and you then deposited it back into the chest of your previous birch saplings from the meadows, and when you planted it used the meadows version from previous saplings
seriously
Why does the game differentiate by where the birch seeds were from and not what biome they’re planted in, are you sure that’s how it works?
why aren't they just like "yellow birch seed"
planteverything wins again
What happens if you mix the two types together do you get a stack of gold and green trees
ye it becomes mixed
That seems so odd
not sure on the priority of which gets used first but if i deposit 5 meadows birch saplings and 5 plains birch, it stacks to 10 saplings, but when you go and plant them you'll still get 5 of each flavor
same energy as female draugr trophies
while a seperate looking trophy, they merge into male draugr trophies if prompted
I did not know that or ever noticed because I’d always get the male trophy first
trophy_draugr_female
something like that
they only come from draugr spawned from the meadows villages
Ahh
curiously never naturally occuring from the swamp
wait till you find out there's a secret boss in the game files
same energy as 2 star trolls
Oh I think I’ve seen this on YT actually
ye the hive
they never appear until you go far enough from the world's center
Yeah it looked cool in concept
or that's there's a spaceship in the games files too
I hope when 1.0 releases, it also fixes things getting out of your hit zone because of terrains angle,
being a spearman is a pain
I wonder if they’re still considering a immobile boss in the future
i have seen the hive, looks not valheim-y
That’s intended gameplay tho, if you wanna hit enemies lower you gotta throw it
Or use a weapon with an attack animation that targets lower like axe or mace
intended gameplay or just bad design 🤔
i don wanna, a hab pointy stick
I would like the spear to have a dedicated slot after thrown for if you pick something else up before spear
even bosses suffer from it,
tis sad
looked it up
Well it seems intentional since no weapon has 3d aiming
both it seems
that would also be nice, because your stuff filling with stones and resin taking up the spear slot is pain
b-b-b-but it could be Gasps eeexplooiiitedd!!
as exploitable as building a fucking tree-house and no-hitting the entire bonemass fight with a bow
If the spear did everything there’d be no point using the other weapons you gotta have niches
Or just exploiting the terrible boss ai lol
it's already hard to keep using spears when we're at the ashlands 😔, is being able to hit stuff on your feet without throwing really that bad
i kinda wish that like....starred enemies had a higher trophy chance...and the 2 starred enemies just had unique trophies.
bonemass should be able to go between the trees like it’s made of blob shouldn’t it just be able to squeeze through
funny the deer trophy has horns on it's head
yeahh
unstarred deer never have horns, yet you get the horned trophy from it
game is unplayable
red seeker trophies and red troll trophies would be pretty epic.
since fish can be used as trophies and higher and higher sizes of them it'd be cool if the same happened with like hunting animals, trophy hunting.
i oughta make a ballista dedicated to deathsquitos....killing my fucking chickens...
Those poor chickens lol
I can’t tell whether you mean the ballista is killing them, deathsquitos, or both lol
deathsquitos, i haven't placed ballistas yet
they don't seem horribly expensive
i wonder if it might be worth it to just build a base ballista with no allocations...for raids and stuff.
how powerful are they with like black metal...bolt...things
Should work well as long as it can’t aim into the base
although they do only hold like 40 ammo right
never have i ever placed a ballista down, i know nothing.
I haven't either. And I've also never used a ward.
wards are more an early warning system in solo
as the sphere flashes when something in it takes damage
decoration
I use them a lot ask me the wue
Uh they hit HARD 120 damage for black metal missiles
I got like 10 around my animal farm because fulings are assh***s bruh
You probably want to build a building for chickens, and/or with iron grate walls.
Otherwise other events, like bat base raid, will kill them off.
Im so glad beating fader disables charred raids they were so annoying
I do have them in a building, the forefathers atleast, i like to see the masses free range in my park
Im not sure where to ask this, but game gives near Plains (Tar pits) Warning about : "Internal:JobTempAlloc" etc, what to do with it?
Any news on when the christmas tree is back?😬 Scandinavia has gone full on christmas, i wanna decorate!
You can build it right now
it's automated now, activates december 1st and deactivates january 6th.
remember that you have to move an item around in your inventory (or pick one up/throw one out) to update your available recipes
doesn't have to be an item from the recipe, all those actions just nudge the game to check
that said, the character does also have to have the relevant items "discovered" of course
(wood and fir cones for the tree
fine wood and pine cones for the garland
pine cones, red jute and fine wood for the wreath
and fine wood and red jute for the mistletoe)
Already is
Didn't Winter's response suffice?
-# it was a bit much
Nah. It only took me 5 minutes to read it.
But that was because I was distracted 7 times so I had to start over. 😄
Have you been tested for ADHD?
I'm amused by the wording, and the mental imagery of someone spitting in a test tube, having it mixed with some chemical, it starts to fizz and smoke and the scientist is like "yup, that's definitely adhd"
I mean, it's more like a self-assessment survey, but well done 'telling us your neurotypical without telling us you're neurotypical' ;P
Hm, sorry you've caught me in the wrong category friend, I'm a 31 year old woman diagnosed with, and medicated for ADHD lol
In that case, I'm sorry my English doesn't meet your syntactic standards.
Oh it's alright friend, I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I'm just enjoying my own interpretation of words
Sorry to make you uncomfortable
You're good. As a friend, though, can I borrow $100?
No ❤️
😛 I tend to call people friend if I worry there's conflict to try and say "It's okay, I don't want to be a dick"
Oh ok, I getcha. As a dick, can I borrow $100?
heh
Farming clown awards again, are we?

👀
No, it was a genuine inquiry.
what biome is the worst to base in
mountains or ashlands prolly
Swamp isn't that good either
as much as i love mountains, yea drakes are tedious to make your base safe from
at least with swamp you can be close to surtling cores, coal, and iron
and be safely suspended above the ground by unbreakable trees
You also need to deal with a constant effect of being wet
unless you have a roof
me personally i don't like mountain bases because it means having to haul metals up a mountain, but if you build a good road system maybe it's not that bad idk
that's another problem yea
Mountains bases just look cool tbh I plan to make a castle and if it’s right on the peak and you have workbench’s under the rocks around it shouldn’t be too bad
There’s always ballista set to drakes once you acquire mistlands gear
kinda what i did.
most of my favourite bases are on mountains but i won't deny that it's one of the worst biomes to build a base in
never said they don't look cool, but the mechanics behind the mountain bases just aren't there compared to other biomes
it must be a pain with all the sound of building attracting drakes and golems
and the cold if you died, can't leave your base without some frost resistance
As soon as you can, make two wolf capes; then you have one for recovering your corpse.
Mistlands sucks for building bases imo
If you can pull it off it looks spectacular but the terrain is unruly and the mobs are very destructive
the uneven terrain is great for securing against grounded enemies the better way - preventing them from aggroing in the first place by not giving them anything to see. seekers only start flying if they're in combat iirc
imo the more unruly the terrain is, the better the base
flat terrain makes for boring layouts
How many shots do ballista take to kill gjall
that would be a problem yea
Yes, if you work with the terrain it builds so much more character to a build, as for mistlands builds, i like building on an island with some grass (for crops) and spawns are generally a non issue
Too many. The first one just pisses them off.
abandon ballistas embrace sneak hitting arbalest gaming
i wouldn't like relying on ballistae, need to be refilled manually and draw attention even if out of ammo since they're attacked on sight
Arbalest is good. If the first hit is a weak-point surprise strike, you can three hit a Gjall.
with high enough skill level you can just straight up one shot em
but yes arbalest very stronk
man going back to swamps and minig just like i did 10000 years ago feels so bad. i've beaten the game, i should have some OP thing like a grenade that just blows up the entire muddy scrap pile
its like 0 progress made, im still as weak as before
dude u know those lava blobs that blow up in ashlands. just gimme that
there are bombs already in the game. just make a bomb that does exactly that lava blob boom
just reuse assets
I find running through swamps with maxed mountain really satisfying
i like going to lowerlvl zones and spawn trolls
Love option ?
like fuling camp vs troll
Potion
trollstav
Damage is on par to a regular troll
whenever i host for my sister over time theres ping that just gets worse and worse, for me.
- I host, its on my pc, why would there be bad ping logically
- She says she doesnt experience any delay opening chests and such, while i do
- Anyone know a fix? A reason?
Just tanky
From a Reddit post 4 years ago, not sure if it still works this way:
The other day a dev commented on how this all works, in my oversimplified retelling, the first player into an area becomes the host of that area. If they have bad lag, everyone will have bad lag in that area.
So, you’re at the mercy of everyone’s connection, even if you are the server, if you weren’t the first one into that area.
goddamnit i knew it it is on her side
It explains why it starts off good and gets worse overtime too, you switch host of the area after sometime
Seems like a workaround is having you be first everywhere but that doesn’t really seem like a good workaround tbh
any way to change that? mod? whatever? Valheim is usually at 20% cpu usage when both in an area i can handle 2 seperate areas just fine
i dont get it why would valheim force an area on a worse computer
I remember there is some kind of mod that is meant to make multiplayer better but I have no idea what it’s called or where you’d find it, I recommend doing some searching around see what you can find
https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1570?tab=description
its this one but it both makes the game stutter like shit and "* The player who arrives in an area first is responsible for lag there. Ideally, the people with the best internet should be ahead of the pack or first through a portal, at least until Better Networking 3.0.*", which uh, hasnt been updated or the code worked on for over a year
hm i havent tried changing the settings
Someone asked for feedback on the better networking mod 6 months ago and a guy replied “Not needed. Pretty sure the consensus was it was written by someone who didn't understand valheim's netcode originally. It had a pseudo effect for some, but for others it introduced new lag/crashes. If you're hitting the Steam data cap (or whatever the internal issue is, I don't quite remember at this point), Smoothbrain's Network mod is all you need.”
Maybe try out smoothbrain network mod
alright
does summoned troll despawn? except for being killed
I don't think so, but I havent tested enough with them to be sure
How tf do i find levaiathans ive been sailing around the ocen biomes for 1 hr not seen one?
sounds unlucky, they only render in once you're pretty close to them so just keep sailing
think youl needa couple of them to get everything
unless you only want a harpoon i guess
maybe they ahve more uses now idk
