that's usually where they see the most use, when you're in multiplayer and have someone playing as the dedicated tank of the group
WW
Tower shields and maces work well together because mace secondary has incredibly high stagger
put em on a ranch somewhere and keep em as pets
no like, ARMYYY against yugluth
they're weak to fire, yagluth will vaporize them for fun
sad
Wolves work better against Yagluth as Loxes do.
Why not both?
Do I get any XP if I run against a wall?
yes
well, the swamp island I found has a ton of crypts, bog witch, a geyser right next to her hut, and bonemass' altar
definitely gonna be where I build my main swamp outpost
summon him and see what she do
oh I've had this happen before it's really funny, traders prevent enemies from aggroing you when you're in their bubble
so if you have someone like haldor or the witch spawn too close to bonemass or the elder, you can just hide in their bubble and watch their AI break while you get a free boss kill
also you were right, I don't wanna take my fenris coat off now
OHHHHH safe pointtt
archery
a goblin trader in plains would be nice ye?
Yagluth is resistant to pierce, that would take forever.
I fought him earlier today. If you have a black metal shield or black metal tower shield his only dangerous attack (meteors) can’t do anything to you.
I always make a shield as a priority in every new biome
Just walk backwards and block and you should block every meteor
It saves a lot of stamina and time compared to sprinting away
I don't berry?
Ah yes, a black metal shield or a black metal shield.
Bosses can’t be staggered, it’s a waste of stamina
I assume you meant parrying
I’d like to see you parry his beam without completely running out of stamina
And all of the meteors
are we referring to yagluth
yesyesss
Yes
I will block his beam, i don't think you can parry every tick of it 🥴
dw it's more like a "I can perry you" but if you think about it they aren't getting stunned, it just waste your stamina
Even max stamina food probably wouldn’t be anywhere close to enough
i don't mind wasting stamina, i'm not a light melee build.
You don’t just step to the side a little? It’s a free opportunity to deal some damage
parrying bosses in general is completely pointless, you can't get the stagger so there's no point to parry when you can just dodge roll
the only reason you would parry a boss is because you want to block a hit that you don't have enough block armor for without the parry bonus
and at that point just dodge roll for 10 stamina
The only reason to parry is if you’re using a buckler and want the shorter recovery time of blocking
Rolling is 15
Jumping is 10 but sadly almost all boss attacks are too big
i block his beam for a bit because its fun and then run to the side and towards him, i block a few meteors if i have bonemass activated, i block the melee attack.
this is the strat i just used, it was not problematic of a boss-fight for me.
iirc rolling stamina cost very slightly scales with movement speed penalty, getting more expensive the more your gear slows you down
Yes, and jumping too
and i always have heavy armor
-10% movespeed is +10% jump and roll cost
yeahh no rollls for me thx
is the opposite true as well then? positive movespeed decreasing jump/roll?
only time i rolled was with the thungr and zil raid with the fucking cracked broken and busted two star berserker spawning
yes
Now that I've forsaken a shield entirely for the Krom, rolling and I have become besties.
even in heavy armor with a whole ass sledge equipped that's only ~20 stamina per roll, but you can resist any amount of damage without stagger or having to worry about block armor
fenris armor, asksvin cloak, we have a job to do
Sounds like a solid rogue build
I am forever the rogue archetype in this game lmao, why block armor when m2 + space
the only time I've stopped using the glass cannon rogue playstyle was for mage glass cannon instead
If an attack is small enough to jump over, jumping is always better
I can 1000% time a roll more easily than a jump so I'll stick to rolling. Lol
You can’t attack while rolling and it costs more stamina
I know, but still more what I'm accustomed to.
lukewarm take: ask armor and fenris armor should be swapped with each other in progression
I used to parry everything too in my first playthrough
ahh that sounded strange
Soulsborne games inducted me into the rolling cult, it can't be helped
So we have to go to mountains for end-game armor?
We get speed from ask armor?
that is kinda a hot take, whats the point of that.
nah, I'm moreso getting at their set bonuses
imo it's way more interesting that an armor from biome 4 is still super relevant in biome 7 because of its unique movement speed bonus
Me playing WoW as my Blood DK
jetstream sam- "yess...hurt me more 👹"
fenris armor's speed and double resistances is an insanely good combo that makes it viable all the way to endgame, meanwhile ask armor's stamina cost reduction ends up being pretty negligible by the time you get to that point of progression
I do agree with this though lol, I like getting fenris and keeping it for the rest of time
no not at all, the stamina cost reduction is MASSIVE
Any jump stamina cost reduction is not negligible.
the BIGGEST issue with ask armor imo though is that the hood makes you bald
wellll, both of fenris's resistances can be substituted with meads, and one of them is covered by almost all capes anyway
another hot take since we're here, does anyone actually use the spears for anything but early game hunting before getting a bow?
Lowkey just want some type of bonus to the linen cape besides it being the only customizable cape.
fang spear vs lox
I've never felt the incentive to craft any spear past flint
if I want pierce I'll get a bow or atgeir
i'll care about the linen cape once its model gets touched up a bit 😅 that thing looks...yeesh
I hear spears are fantastic tbh, but I hate using them.
The main problem is that it does nothing
atgeirs are weird....they are the only weapon time in my current playthrough i don't feel like leveling
Only having the singular melee attack animation puts a huge damper on them for me.
they're incredibly simple, power attack to stagger anything that gets too close, stab until dead
Himminafl secondary has the highest stagger in the game (over 800 when upgraded)
considering plains already have a new functional cape, i feel the linen cape is meant to just be a cosmetic item
this exactly, combined with their alt attack being "oops I lost my melee"
nothing better than throwing your flametal and iolite stick of death halfway across the world and having to make a new one because you can't find the tiny little sparkles on the floor
If they stacked somewhat like arrows I might feel more inclined. Lol
yeah yeah i get it i get it they're good everyone says that.....they feel weird and uninteresting to me.
🥴
The other cape is a reskin of a cape that most players entering plains probably have
afaik they used to, way back when they didn't have a melee attack. but people asked for such and they were tweaked
*a significantly better reskin that is also cheaper
we should be able to use eitr in late game to make spears just return to your hand like the loyalty enchant in minecraft
i always skip the wolf cape in favour of lox
lox cape significantly better??? how? style?
i love using the fang spear against lox, bronze spear against troll.
yes.
-# well also durability
Durability and lack of a big ol head
The linen cape should do something useful though, to give players a reason to actually use it
i like both the lox and wolf capes but lox cape moreso.
I would try fang spear and bronze spear against those enemies, but at the same time the finewood bow, draugr fang, bronze & blackmetal atgeirs all exist at the same time
Even if it was just a stamina reduction similar to the clothes from hildr that would be a reason to craft it.
i don't like how slim the wolf cape is, it doesn't add to your horizontal silhouette at all, just gives you swollen shoulders thanks to the head.
barely any visible fluff either, the lox cape's perfect
Visually the feather cape is my favorite, but I refuse to wear it any where near the Ashlands.
but the slimness problem goes for almost all capes in the game, especially linen
So i don't even bother crafting it.
same, part of the reason I love fenris armor is because it allows me to run the feather cape with zero consequence
Resistances override weakness
Aye, just don't like carrying a bunch of meads on me.
you'd think the feather cape would be my favourite visually, but i still prefer lox over it
Already struggle to decide which tools to leave at base. Lol
why, just don't walk in lava.
Better jumps that also cost less stamina? That’s worth it for one slot of mead
i mean....what deals fire damage other than valkyries, blobs and fader.
Charred warlocks?
imo feather cape is just singlehandedly the best cape, sure the move speed and dodge reduction from asksvin is really cool, but verticality is something incredibly hard to find in this game
the random campfire you placed down
More slots for loot > fire resist mead
i've seen like 3 of them
*more slot, singular
my point being, not the majority of enemies you see.
Fair.
Unless you're carrying multiple stacks for some ungodly reason
The player is likely going to be carrying lightfoot mead too to further buff their jumps and reduce jump stamina
do i really have to be doing that now....
Tfw you only carry health and tasty meads
tfw you carry like 7 different meads at all times
i don't even carry any stamina meads, just health for emergencies
inventory management already sucks because the devs are dying on the hill of not adding armor slots 🫢
now theres more stuff
oh boy
i think inventory management's good as it is
Tasty meads are more for when I want a little boost without a crazy cool down
Tasty Mead, for the taste 😉
"Crazy" being subjective ofc
we seriously just gonna pretend to be constantly okay with having less and less inventory space 😩
Tasty is better than Stamina 😄
What is the point of armor slots? Slots that hold anything are so much more useful
We've had the same inventory space since day one
and more things and more things and more things
i'm in favour of armor slots if we lose the same amount of inventory slots armor usually takes up :>
armor slots means no armor clogging up 4 slots of my inventory which means 4 more universal slots
Oh definitely. I was blind to such a thing until I realized how short the CD on the tasty meads were.
No one is pretending. It is perfectly fine.
now there's all these meads, great sure, but wow....
But why not just add four more normal slots?
You know you don't HAVE to carry everything at once, right?
The beauty is there is no CD 😉 Lasts for 10s, CD is 10s, so effectively there is none.
that's the thing, you don't need to take them with you and the game rewards you for not doing it by giving you a cleaner inventory
that's the deal with inventory management
if you don't have to consider that, the system failed
and it stacks with lingering stam mead
and thats annoying, because i want to take them with me, i don't want to have to leave my pants and half my tools and an arm and a leg at home just so i can carry resources around 😭
Troll meads are Bae tbh, especially if I'm going for early game metals that I need to restock on.
I prefer to think that Lingering stacks with Tasty 😉 😛
If updates were’t adding new items that you can put somewhere in your inventory if you want to, they’d be a little disappointing.
This is going nowhere "my opinion is better than yours", i hate the inventory system, thats the way it is.
I think of it more as having to prioritize what resources I'm collecting
Where did you think it was going to go?
Others decided to engage.
But I suppose that's also part of the Boon of playing in a group like I do, we can consolidate and delegate who carries what. Lol
I'll see what happens come 1.0, if certain things aren't resolved i might finally resort to the world of mods.
and in solo there's still carrying portal materials. so the less stuff you take with you, the longer you can go without a portal break
Mhmmm
Carrying? You mean Boating? 😛
If others like it, It is what it is, But i'm not going to be convinced to.
Nah, i always be carrying portals mats. I ain't about to wait to answer nature's call cuz I ain't got a portal.
all I have to say on this is why does every other survival game have equipment slots while this one refuses to do so
😂
This is valid but idk, I don't mind it to much
Idk, everyone has stockholme syndrome with it too lol, terraria has such a fun system in comparison.
but armor's always been in the game, the amount of slots we have was balanced with it in mind
Valheim still has better inventory management to me than Day Z ever has.
balanced by the time the game came out, and two biomes and various equipment did not yet exist?
People really have an obsession with carrying stuff they don't need to 🤷♂️
yeah this is pretty much my take, I don't really give a shit but I'd rather have slots to slap my equipment in than not
NOT having equipment slots (aside from the ones we do have) makes the game more versatile.
like what?
they still haven't added a new equipment type
what constitutes as 'don't need to", technically i don't need armor or weapons because i can damage things with my fists and can roll from damage, doesn't mean thats at all fun 🗣️
there's no gloves or something
Part of me likes to think that's why you cannot take Feasts with you for eating. To help show people you don't have to carry 10 of each food around.
Has anyone here ever played terraria before
Yeah, not a fan.
It’s my most played game on steam
yes, that game's dev team has a very different view on convenience and while i love it, it's the differences between games that are the reason i love them
And seen how streamlined, nice on the eyes and good the system of accessories and armor and grappling hooks and all that is.
I'd never call Terraria 'nice on the eyes'.
difference between a feast and a regular meal for me is that the feast lasts nearly twice as long as the best endgame foods, I can pretty easily get a goal finished in 55 minutes, 30 is pushing it, 20 is not enough unless I stay ridiculously close to home or prepare to portal spam
texture pack
Games? Being different???
PERISH THE THOUGHT
Ah, so the game only looks good when using mods. Interesting.
Carry 1 of each and eat before you leave. 20 minutes later, eat the 1 of each. Boom, 3 slots returned to you.
capcom when making MH wilds

yeah thank god for feasts, finally something added that doesn't even further cluster up the inventory thats never been slightly reworked.
or, just carry 10 of each, not worry about my timers, and deal with the loss of three slots
The whole game or just the inventory as obi-ron is talking about?
because no new "group of items you carry around" has been added aside from meads recently, which are optional niche buff items
If dealing with loss of 3 slots, forfeiting all rights to complain about lack of slots.
I don't know what this means 😄
The game in general. I'll be honest, I did only play one session so I'm not super familiar with it,
🙌
it means they sacrificed a lot of what makes MH unique in favour of appeasing modern western audiences and their endless hunger for convenience, speed and simplicity
all i have to say now is, bruh.
So... everything wrong with the current gaming industry? 😄
yepp.
a game can't be perfect for someone in all aspects, i just don't like the inventory.
anyway imma go make something to munch on
glad we've gone from talking about adding 4 inventory slots for a specific subset of items, to how the gaming industry is explotative and focused on FOMO slop content, definitely not a stretch
What on earth kinda....🤨
it was a tangential comment, that was not intended to relate back to the topic
Every single game i have ever played in my life had criticisms in the double digits.
Maybe you just hate games.
I said nothing about FOMO slop content.
Neither did Winter.
Doubtful, Since all i waste my life on are games.
That and Discord.
top minds of valheim discord at work rn
False, Smiffe isn't here.
i mean compared to games its rather minor.
well i am a "top mind" in one way
-# i'll leave
the only games I complain about are games that I can't mod my complaints out of, if the devs really don't want to add equipment slots I can just add them myself, doesn't mean I won't argue for including that in the vanilla game
yeah i might do that
🤐
just have no experience with it
We have equipment slots, you can just use them for other things too.
mhmmmmmm....
I always organise my inventory so the six equipment slots are together on the right.
left for me~
bottom..
left side is the correct side sorry but the facts are facts
My friends all put it on the left and they all say I’m doing something wrong
i like the bottom for all of it typically, and arrows i think.
I typically use my entire bottom row for equipment and consumables
I have food on the left, equipment on the right, and leave the centre empty for items
Food goes on the right
ayy that's also where i put my food
I will say on one hand though that I think some sort of pouch that lets you store multiple stacks of items, but only of a single type would be nice for inventory management
the more likely i am to want to click to something, the closer i place it to the center of my screen
My reasoning for wanting equipment slots is...why is armour taking up your inventory, it should be the inventory logically....like where do you put things when you're naked ingame? in your underwear?, why would your armor or anything you put on take up space.
I find that inconceivably strange.
Hyped for Wilds personally
that one i won't argue with, considering there's also a carryweight system, it really doesn't make much sense for worn armor to reduce your pocket space.
it's just that i'm perfectly fine with the amount of free slots you're left with after armor balance-wise
wish i could be...
well, hoping it'll at least still be some fun with scarlet by my side
pretty much what I think, it's not the end of the world to not have equip slots but I would still rather have them than not
Why would it be going anywhere? The item is still accessible to your character, that’s what the inventory is there to represent.
what?
It was fairly clear.
Can I ask why you aren't? I was pretty pleased with the bets despite it's limitations
The inventory is simply a grid that shows all items available to your character
Not my point.
I'm not talking realistic but i am talking believable, i have never seen a game before that has equippable clothes and armor, without dedicated slots to them.
a lot of smaller (and some bigger) design choices that i don't feel suit monster hunter or individual aspects of it.
i don't like to rant about it because 1. my messages tend to turn into (sloppy) essays on this subject and 2. i don't like being negative and disagreeing with people on something they're having fun with
but in short: i don't think open world suits MH, focus mode is completely removing one of the pillars of MH combat, and goddamnit they sped HH up again, it's supposed to be slow and vulnerable
The only reason i am engaging with this battle of opinions is because people keep responding back to me 😏
how dare a thing made for discourse have discourse!
I'm not really trying to change anyones minds because this course seems deadset anyways, but my mind won't be changed either and there's alot of things i'm not about to agree with lul.
Fair points, and I appreciate your response. While I personally think focus mode is pretty neat I could see why a long term player would find it a bit lackluster. Especially since my first MH was World.
Need help with somthing: We... died and, short story, used the "restore backup" feature, but.... where are our tombstones?????
what's the stone oven for?
If you restored backup then they don't exist.
really???!
Your character is separated from the world state.
I'm not sure why they would.
So... how to we get back to that save, then?
Depends how far back they restored I think, if they died then reset the world before they died than their tombstones would no longer exist. But since they didn't load backups for the characters their inventory would stay the same wouldn't it?
Is there a way to... restore your character???
I think your best bet would be to check how recent your characters backup is and try that.
good point
Are you on a locally hosted world btw?
yes
Next time if you want to recover your things with ease i would recommend using the ghost and fly devcommands. That way you don't have to worry about altering your world state to much
Oh! ... how?
If you're on PC I'm unsure.
yes. PC
baking uncooked foods like lox pie, bread, etc.
oh should I skip?
No
absolutely not, foods that need to be baked are typically some of the best
Ohh time to mine iron again yayyy D:
especially in the plains, bread and lox pie are staples of that place
Most games to open the console panel i think it's either ~ or esc on the keyboard?
I managed to squeeze 200 health and 120 stamina
yes, exactly.
From there on console, I type devcommands, then the commands are ghost and fly respectively
Same commands to turn off
funny, the mistlands enemies are kinda lame, except for the gjall and dvergr..
the gjall are super awesome
Seekers and soldiers?
for trying to be creative with the fantasy aspect, bug enemies that look like giant cockroaches and beetles are fairly generic, and kinda just annoying to fight.
similar to my opinion on the queen herself.
my least favorite bosses are the most bland, not based on the difficulty alone, so bonemass and the queen and the elder, moder is an exception because i said so.
her design is unique enough and dragons are hard to not be cool.
did they remove the blue lady?
see I hate bugs so the mistlands are terrifying for me
nothing like hearing some clicking noises in the mist and getting jumpscared by a soldier
I don't hate bugs but i find them to be a disappointing style for the mistlands, I actually might have preferred the potential spiders of the old mistlands
you want misty bugs?
ehh?
I thought it'd match the style
i want creatures to harness the mistlands lightning, more magical based enemies since magic in valheim is introduced in the biome, more weird wacky creatures like the gjall, not just giant cockroaches.
OOO
Omg I found a greydwarf chilling on a stump
bread
Lox Pie
Meat platter
me
is scythe for farming faster or am I abusing it
wdym abusing it? it's designed to harvest your crops easily
Oh WWW
I think I'm finally gonna retire the stagbreaker, it's been a good few biomes but I don't need to use the AoE cheesing anymore
meow :<
Its certainly not for farming slower.
is the berserkir potion a good idea?
i'm a dodging god, and I prefer bonemass power
literally melee wood trolls with a rag tire
melee wood trolls with a rag tire
good news, they stack
hi scarlet
stack?
is there a way to pick up and move a feast once placed?
I havent played with it too much, just recently figured out how to place em
if the feast has all 10 uses still, you can deconstruct them with the serving tray
same as using a hammer
if it has been used already, deconstructing them will destroy them
scarlet is spanish?
spanish speaking, not from spain~
is that your first language or something 🧐
yep
referring to other
@elder glen
Noh , just assuming either british or spanish
I have reached Lord Reto
Hm, I've just found myself a bit bamboozled by some of the things you say.
I am not sure how to even try this guy.
oh hiya scar~
hai hun~
facetank him like i do ☕
Im sure that plan worked wonders
when can I use external emotes?
when you pay me 10$
i'm actually the owner of the server but i don't have any roles like that because i am incredibly humble.
I broke
then fix u
meow
i don't think you ever can unless you're staff
happy small times
I predicted your sweetness
Anybody know how fast the smokepuffs respawn?
I have a chicken egg that is literally right next to a fire and is still cold.. What am I missing? An egg next to it is warm
destroy it, cast it into the fire.
are some just duds?
Shouldn't be the case. Idk if maybe there's a limit to how many chickens can hatch in an area?
hell yeah sledge is hilarious
I like its idea, but I ended up just hanging it up-- Not a bad weapon, just less my style
Stagbreaker, although weaker, is nice in that you can use for finding silver veins, hahahaa
for sure, I don't use it for regular combat, moreso for cheesing dungeons rn since I'm on hard
Ohhh fair lmao!
hey i just got the game a few days ago could anyone give me some good tips on getting to swamp im currently trying to get bronze?
if you're trying to get bronze rn, don't go to the swamp
wait until you kill the elder to start exploring the swamp
Yeah im just saying im trying to get ready for swamp
would troll armour be better then bronze?
yes for agility, no for defense
Nearly all areas give you a heavy and a light armor. The heavy gives superior defense but slows you down a bit. The light armor doesn't slow you down and often give an extra perk or two.
My experience with defense is that, in this game, it absolutely work.
cheaper and pretty comparable to bronze, I'd recommend it if you're on normal
alr thank you
j
Better is subjective.
well yeah, bronze is literally just more armor but troll armor doesn't slow you down, i always use bronze in the swamp just because.
Draugr do hit hard in the swamps
Plus if you're new it'll be harder to spot the leeches by their ripples, and such
recommend bronze armor until you know what you're doing, but troll hide can be a nice thing for while you work on bronze
Ok thank you
I have been useing bukeperries much more often with feasts in the picture
30 minutes of food is normally alot butttt...
the feasts are awesome. i love them
trying to kill misthares with a bow is one of the most unsatisfying things i have ever done it hurts
crossbow is better to quickly snipe them
just got here
Well make a crossbow
I wish they aimed better tho
In fact I wish all weapons did. Its so annoying trying to fight in certain situations. Why can't I stab upward or downward with my spear?!
That's been covered many, many times.
Yeah well im covering it again.
Why can't I stab upward or downward with my <insert any weapon here>?!
Because the devs tested that and found it was way to easy to get into spots where you could hit things without any danger of being hit.
Well they could just give the better hitbox to enemies too!
It's not that simple, plus it would drastically increase dev time to overhaul the combat system that much. Plus that new system may no longer be in line with what they want for the game.
I'm willing to wait! And it would be a better system, so who cares if it is "in line."
Well ok then... have a good day 👍
-# There, we went over it again.
Yeah well if they make worlds with so many slopes, I feel like it should be taken into considerations.
For me, often it was the opposite that happened: the enemies could hit me, but I couldnt hit back.
they also need to be sheltered
Wolves on steep slopes is a bit frustrating
having a wolf kill me on a slope is like stepping on legos on the floor
Now that I know it's a thing, I can plan ahead and it mostly works out, but swinging your weapon and having it whiff is like...ugh
slopes do not make for a good arena in general in valheim, a slight difference in elevation will cause you to miss with all melee weapons
The funtimes happen when you're on a slope with no stamina and a bunch of greybeards beat you up
just set their house on fire
Average greybeard throwing a rock at the armoured beast that single handidly mowed down their forest, drained it of it's resources and slaughtered everything in sight.
i mean thats basically every game. wild pokemon lvl 4 attacking the league champion with lvl 60 dragonite
You can throw the spear upwards/downwards and insta pick up again
Either way you wanna prioritise finding flat ground or running away if you are in danger
C:\Users\ "your user name" \AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim i believe, the AppData folder is normally invisible tho
just type appdata in windows search and should show up
i was today years old when i learned that charred twitchers dont throw rocks
Oh yes 😄 those are skulls
yes, had one fly directly into the camera
Fuuuuuuuccccccckkkkkkkkkk Ashlands is toughhh bro lmao
You were warned to prepare for war 😄
Shows up with buckler and knife
Im always ready for war lol
Not with those you aren't 😄
also, to this day i keep reading proustite powder wrong
prostitute powder?
-# No you don't 😉
Im in it for the long haul lmaoo Im running the Fenrir Armor set, Feather cape, rat mead, lightfoot mead, black metal knife, carapace buckler, lingering stam, major heals, and a warrior spirit to parry everything.
"Warrior Spirit"?
Don't parry everything. It probably won't go well when you find a two-star
Yeah no.. damage gets taken against those lol
It's good to see that you have lightfoot and feather cape though, with those nothing can touch you
1 Stars are managable though. And for sureee. I feel naked without my mobility
Do you have any other weapons?
Ive crafted all of plains and mistlands and leveled them up fully. Im going to give the demolisher and mistwalker a try tomorrow for a serious go
Hey i am in the bronze age and i am searching someone who wants to play with me
Mistwalker and silver sword are both incredibly powerful against charred. The silver sword has more damage and less stamina cost but is also a lot more expensive
Silver dagger actually fares better than Black metal dagger against Charred, but yeah you want some more efficient weapons against them.
Mistwalker does more damage than Silver Sword.
My girl has the silver sword.. and I have the silver knife too.. I was thinking about that. I was running the dragur fang against the queen bc spine took to long to load up.. but switched back to it for the spirit in ash
I wish the dual blades were good. 😭 I wish they had a speed buff on them or a deflect mechanic tbh
Dual blades?
At level three, the silver sword will have five more damage against a charred.
Hati and Skul
Why do you think they are not good?
At level four it also does five more damage
The damage isnt to much more.. and then I cant parry as effective considering I normally only use a shield and knife. The shield lets me parry more damage than they would. With my buckler I can parry like 260 damage atm
You do understand that the largest contributing factor to blocking/parrying is your Max Health, right?
Valheim's combat is about more than parrying everything you see
Yes, the knife + shield will parry better, but in situations where you don't need massive block armor skoll and hati will be better
Thought it went based off your armor? Your armor number plus the block power of whatever you are using? Parry allows you to block more than you wouldve normal blocked for, stun them, and deal more damage? I gotta disagree lol In 2v1 or 5v1 situations.. a nice pary or 2 could give you the time you need to drop the numbers down
What other weapon types do you usually use other than knives? @fresh cove
Other than a bow or farming weapons.. none honestly lol
Armor does have some effect on blocking but it's very minimal. It slightly affects the stagger received after the block, which is what can cause you to get staggered on a successful block.
Block Armor is ignored entirely if you become staggered.
Stagger meter is determined by Max Health.
Your stagger limit is 40% of max health
So your ability to parry is entirely reliant on your food.
Well of course.. I pay attention to that and use distance if need be to let it drop.. and I didnt know that it affected that. Thats good to know. I normally run a large health, large stam, and then a balanced for food
If only there was a blocking spreadsheet pinned in this channel with automatically-updating information 😉
They are
How lol
Fastest attack speed out of all other weapons.
High sneak damage
High attack (especially against non-resistant enemies)
@depercussore123 if we're doing a fresh start, then I'm down
@depercussore123
I'd recommend trying some else weapon type too, like either mace or sword. Early weapon levels are easily gained when taking some time, for example using Bronze sword or Wooden club against Bonemass.
Pierce damage is unfortunately resisted by many enemies althought it doesn't make pierce dealing weapons useless, just less effective against certain enemies.
god it feels so good to craft frostner. i think its my fav craft in the entire game
It is such a cool weapon.
lol ikr
i wish they'd remove the "needs more space" feature
For what?
Not that big of a deal, tho it would be nice to be able to place them a bit closer to each other
Makes it more realistic that you need to have workable space around them, like you would set them up in real life
Yeah, some of the pieces are a bit picky. Remember you can hide stuff above or below.
Or behind a wall....
Yeah, that too. I usually like to put my wood chopping block outside, ‘behind’ my workbench.
is the game worth buyin?
If you’re into survival games, yeah
is there multiplayer
Optional co-op
@neat crescent Yes, you can have servers, join them or you have the option to host and play with your friends anytime or join their game as they are online.
There are no official servers, keep that in mind. Recommended to play with friends.
How well is xbox crossplay working with PC?
Hello, this is just maybe me or it already has been evoked but do two fire under an Iron cooking station dont work anymore ?
How many upgrades does galdrtable has?
two fire?
like you put two campfires under iron cooking station?
no idea but why would you put 2x? to make cooking faster?
No because just one did not work either
To make an iron cooking station work you had to put either a heart or two campfire under
Putting iron cooking station on hearth works better.
Actually it's the only way it works for me lol
wow, fire hazard on is something else
can you put your stuff on fire with a poorly placed campfire?
how to breed chickens?
I putted 4 campfire instead of 2, and it works
have two hens in close proximity, feed them any kind of seed, wait.
drop the eggs near a fire under a roof -- don't let the chicks get too close to the fire; they need to grow up before getting cooked
I considered turning it on so I could use torches early game for really fast forest clearing but I'm afraid it'll go out of control
Yeah, Valheim Fried Chicken hasn't been invented yet. 😄
I'd prefere karage 😄 would be nice but i guess the vikings did not meet the japanese back in the day 😄
karage is just the japanese word for fried chicken
real question when do y'all make the switch from maces to swords, or do you at all?
After swamp 😤
I usually swap either after swamp or mountains, frostner just goes too hard
thinking I'll do the swap at swamp this time though since I normally just use the frostner until mistlands
I use a sword for ashlands and yagluth, and a mace for mountains and bonemass. In other biomes I just use what I feel like using.
it has different spices in there then the american version as far as i have understood from all the recipe i looked at 😄
maces are generally much better stat wise than swords -- which basically get used on their rule of cool, i.e. I switch when I get two handed swords
I usually get Mistwalker in Mistlands and that is first sword for me.... i found swords a little underwhelming in ashlands so i stick with maces there too 😄
Silver sword does very high damage to charred (more than mistwalker) and has a low stamina cost
mistwalker is the main reason I switch to swords, it's basically just a faster frostner
plus, I like the speed and power attack of swords
The sword secondary is slower than mace secondary. The primary attacks have the same animation
frostner deals frost, blunt and spirit
But the secondary attack is great for dealing damage quickly
same animation, but swords are slightly faster
not sure about mistwalker but it is not the same
pretty much the exact same actually, frost slash and spirit
It's the same speed
yeah slash obviously ... depends again on the enemy you want to get rid of if to what it is weak i found frostner better in ashlands than mistwalker 😄 but that is only my opinion and my be biased because my sword levels never get very high 😄
Only big difference is frostner does good knockback and blunt damage while mistwalker does very high secondary damage and slash
So literally use whichever weapon you have a higher level
yep, they're basically just reskins of each other
I always prefer my swords so I use mistwalker - but clubs can be fun… I should try them sometime 😂🤭
i feel like clubs are the best weapon type in the game in general
the only reason I said mistwalker better is just because it has the higher dmg ceiling since you get it later, in practice with skills & such in account they're basically the same
at least in my opinion
Mace secondary is a very versatile attack with a high damage, stagger and knockback multiplier
Except one has cleave and the other doesn't
yeah, clubs are the most consistently good weapon imo, the only place where you don't get a 1h club is Mistlands
a lot of enemies and bosses are also weak to blunt
We need the next boss to be blunt resistant because none of them are now
you can just make another club like the porcupine and give it spirit damage which is useless
aint no way you called spirit damage useless
thats what the wiki says
Have you even tried silver sword vs charred or yagluth?
spirit damage is really strong when it does take effect, and most if not all the weapons with it are balanced around not triggering spirit damage
which means against regular enemies they'll function like a standard weapon of that tier, but as soon as you hit something that takes spirit damage it melts
no but i used the frostner
i didnt get to ashlands yet
yeah theres only like 8 mobs in the entire game that are weak to spirit
"8 mobs in the entire game"
have you even been to the swamp???
Is Fader weak to spirit? 🤔
Immune
are you talking weak or neutral
ive never bothered to use spirit weapons
It's still strong against enemies that are neutral
you forget the part where being neutral to spirit dmg is effectively a weakness
then theres more than 8 mobs
like I said, spirit dmg isn't balanced around being active, it's basically an additional dmg bonus against certain enemies
so when something is neutral to spirit dmg, your weapon ends up getting however much spirit dmg it has as bonus dmg
in total 26 enemies take spirit dmg, 9 of them being weak as well
you wanna talk about bad dmg types lets talk about poison
its just very annoying when the game gives you spirit weapons but proceeds to make everything in that biome you're in immune to it
except yagluth later on
that's just also not true, all the werewolf type enemies in the mountains take spirit damage
Fenrings and enemies in frost caves are weak or neutral to spirit, and it helps when returning to swamps for iron
only the fenrings
Fenrings, cultists, ulvs and bats (Which are weak)
meanwhile there are only two enemies in the entire game weak to poison
so far.
More weakness just means more damage to lose because it doesn't stack
meanwhile there are 26 enemies immune to poison, 22 if you don't count bosses
and another 10 resistant or very resistant to it
do I need to create a world from scratch to add a new merchant?
usually no, though you'll need to find an unexplored biome to get him/her to populate.
no, unless you explored every possible spawn location for the merchant already and don't want to use dev commands
thanks
If you're going back to an old world to find the witch, keep in mind any other unexplored POI (boss or miniboss locations) will have almost certainly moved
yup, had to refind all my hildir dungeons after the update lol
Poison is also super deadly against those enemies neutral or weak to it.
Ooze bombs rule Mistlands and Draugr Fang is great in the plains and works pretty well on seekers too. And unless DN gives us undead again it'll probably be effective there too.
Nearly everything in Ashlands being resistant just means you finally have a reason to upgrade to Spinesnap and stops you from using ooze bombs to clear fortresses.
it hardly spreads tbh. Tested around 50 fire arrows in the last 10 minutes
hey guys. new here, i got a question i see that there is multiplayer in game from what i hear, but is there also like lots of servers with just random players where you can play in or not=
The game is designed for one group progressing together in each server, not for multiple random groups and individuals doing their own thing. You will be finding enemies too strong for you if other players on the same world have progressed further.
oh i see but like i dont have friends that play this game so is there any other way to still play with different players?
Look in #1024264966712340510, check if there are any people looking to start a server or started recently. You could also try making your own post if you can't find anyone
oh oke nice sounds good. is there coming a steam workshop or is it already there?
A steam workshop for what?
like mods or fun stuff
There is no official mod support.
there are a heck ton of youtube channels providing guides and such
ashlands outposts are fun
just tunnel into a charred fortress and block the small hole with ashwood spikes, then build a sheild generator to protect your spawnproofing and put a catapult on the roof for transport to the surrounding area
mmmhhh oke do you guys feel like they should add a steam workshop for mods or fun stuff for the game?
Killing bosses is fun. Progressing through the game is fun. Building a cool base is fun. Sailing around exploring new areas is fun.
I never needed one i had so much fun finding it out all by myself 😄 so in my opinion no need 😄
thanks i see
the game is fun without mods too 😄 that is what i have been doing for next to 2700 h playing the game without mods 😄
is it hard to play or is it easy?
It is not easy but if you pay attention it is not super hard either
The later biomes are a lot more challenging than the start
you could always reduce difficulty if you get overwhelmed
It's real easy to play. But if you want to do more than log in and stare at your feet, you might have to try a little.
i wish the game would remember what markers i turned off and on ... each time i start in eed to turn of the "died here" markers so i can see what is going on on the map in ashlands 😄
mmh oke sounds pretty good, i guess my pockets got to hurt again i know its cheap but yea🥲
But seriously, yeh... there's a whole bunch of game modifiers that you can use now to set it at your desired difficulty.
I never had so much fun for the money with any other game i have to say - it was well worth spending that money on that one 😄
if the devs decide to go the DLC route after 1.0 i will gladly buy each and every one 😄
oh they are thinking of publishing dlcs?
They have said that they don't plan on any new content after 1.0
i swear to god
soon as i got up in the mornin and explored a high mountain peak, guess what the wish bone found? A silver vein! Guess what whatit said? "Did you find the other 2 veins too, Holger?" I said "No mr silvervein." He said "Here!" 3 goddamn silver veins bitch, god motherfuckin daaamn
oh and is the game still getting updates and how long is the time between updates?
sadly they said they are not planing to do it but one can hope ? 😄
That's actually a really fun poll - 'Fun for money'. Valheim is right up there, but...?
and a fourth one holy shit
Valheim DLC: Warlords of Yotenheim!
isnt it Jotunheim
thank you, god of war 4 and 5, for this knowledge
The game gets regular bugfixes and updates 😄 has been getting like always... I am kinda sad next biome will be last before 1.0
there haven't been any updates since 11/19/2024 -- it's a dead gaem
but they said they wanna do things to the early biomes too for 1.0 . Makes me happy ... new and shiny things to play with
The deadest.
i mean a playercount of 36k isnt a dead game i guess
They were joking 😉
A universal build set would be grand.
literally unplayable
is it common to find 3 leviathans in one spot
I wouldn't be surprised if the number of tombstones is greater than the number of players.
it's happened to me before, IIRC I've seen 4 within sight of eachother
i just found 3 literally hugging eachother
this run is my third time to the ashlands and i have significant less "died here" markers on the map ... still to many for my liking but well...we gonna do ashlands 4 - 5 -6 untill i can do it without gettind annihilated 😄
I would say its rare but i have seen even 5 together 🙂
they're more common than mistland cores :<
They hug because there's strength in numbers. Don't take a yacht out to a Leviathan, they'll mess you up!
i'm evil like that
Magleviathans?
It's speculation, but I would swear that black core 'drop' rate has been decreased.
my running average of cores per mine since the start of the mistlands is like 1.5 -- hard to imagine they'd lower it
got 4 from my first mine and 9 from the second in my current world.
Which is admittedly insanely lucky but mostly for the second value. And it was a huge mine too so i just got lucky on the RNG.
Nope. You're either incredibly unlucky or miscalculating. I recall it being 5-8, now it's 2-4. (Edit: and even that is anecdotal).
unless you've done at least a triple digit number of mines your average is statistically insignificant
could be the case that you were particularly lucky, but it ran out
What?
some seeds are just stingy
I'm not explaining it. What do you think 'mag' could possibly be short for when five leviathans are close together? 🙄
penteviathan
That's good too. It implies a cohort of choice.
If you meant it as a prefix meaning five then i never heard it being used. Penta? Sure. Mag? Nope.
No, I meant they were attracted to one another. But let's move on.
Thats... Nevermind.
Correct.👍
How was your weekend?
it would be nice to get the option "don't show helmet" like wow has
Vanity armor like terraria has would be peak
Dyable armor too
I don’t see how anyone could oppose more customisation, creativity and self expression tbh
I think it would be neat if we could stylize our armor, kinda like shields
Traaaansmogrificaaaatrion!
Alternate fenris style could be more like what cultists wear?
Crimson variant and navy
Armor upgrades that serve as customisation could work and give valheim its own way to add it without just doing something similar to other games
troll trophy on troll hood to give you a lil troll face under the hood lol
armor modification station
A "lil"?
With that trophy you're able to use the entire head as a helmet and still need to fill it up with pelts to make sure it'll stay were you put it.
How about a rare baby troll mob then
I don't think killing "youngsters" is something the devs would promote.
I mean, we can't even kill the wolf cubs or the chicklets; although the latter may die when they spawn in the fire after the eggs hatch.
So killing "baby" trolls won't be something not many players would like to do.
Greylings are literally greydwarf children no?
alt ask helm that hides your face would honestly be enough for me to use that set
I've never seen them like that.
More like a different variation of the same species.
Like Bulldogs and Pitbulls both being from a same ancestor dog at some point.
Ooooh that would actually be super cool 👀
well it doesn’t have to necessarily be a baby troll just a smaller troll variant with a face you could fit under the hood
considering the elder raid includes greylings I always figured they are the same species
the idea is to add more player expression to what they wear
Troll and ask armor styles could match the colours of starred trolls and asksvins
Troll hood could simply have a face mask, nothing crazy
^
But yeah, alternate colors would also be super cool
I love the idea. But, can we have functioning multi-player Ashlands first?
What’s not functioning about it currently
I’m asking this as a person who hasn’t been to Ashland’s yet solo or mp
Never done Ashlands multiplayer, but I will soon 👀
In my experience to date, everyone who's not me in multiplayer (and the same applies from other players' perspectives) suffers with a delay measured in full seconds. It's near impossible to parry in Ashlands if you're sharing a game.
could that be more server/player location related?
Are the friends you play with far away from the location of the server
I’ve only really played multiplayer lan and we suffered no issues in any of the biomes up to mistlands
that is actually a thing with network delay, the one "hosting" the instance is the one to first arrive at the scene and the others have to sync up to that player, which can be delayed due to a variety of factors
host connection, players connections, distance, etc
It happens for me on a 'dedicated' server within the game and on a paid dedicated server 200ms away. My primary 'friend' is my wife who (obviously) shares our connection. Ashlands is unplayable in multi-player.
That is indeed a shame
I don’t see how they could fix it on their end though unless they figure out a better way to send data or optimise how much data needs to be sent
have you checked out if there’s a mod that tries to address this issue?
i mean the community has (or used to at least) a mod for better networking in valheim, which imho sounded like one of the very few mods actually worth getting
yeah that could be worth looking into if it’s up to date
I suspect (entirely speculatively) that it's an asset thing. Way too many 'pieces' trying to be shared synchronously.
No, I haven't investigated mods; that's a good suggestion, thank you. 🙂
Best of luck to ya
what do yall think its best? build one outpost with every single thing you need or build a house for sleeping a blacksmithing for ores etc
i have experienced this desync myself in the past and i can confirm it is very detrimental to time sensitive things like parrying
that entirely depends, i had both on the old mistlands world
I wonder if how long the server is up also plays a part, does this issue grow greater with longer runtimes?
I wouldn't recommend blacksmithing while sleeping.
not as far as i have noticed, its rather consistent
Building a main base that is situated near as many useful biomes and structures as possible is a good bet but there’s a lot of factors to take into account
there are all kinds of people. our host for example likes building so he made a little village with one house for everything useful and a few just for decoration
you create a new world when a new biome comes out?
both, a megabase with everything in one, and outposts scattered around the world
Seriously, the best use for portals is to allow access to your 'main base'. You can also limit your susceptibility to 'world events' by building in a particular biome.
Oh I misunderstood the question, I think having many houses with different uses in a village like setting looks better for sure
But megabase wins on convenience
i played on my own solo world and a 2nd one with a few other people during mistlands, but a colleague at work hosted a server once ashlands came out so now i have 3 worlds basically
I like to have a portal hub fairly centralised within the base for example
the portal hub isnt that good tho
My choice: Megabase in Meadows with big 'portal room'; four hubs at the main compass points (~two-thirds out) and more portals; then exploratory portals as I wander around.
it’s only as good as you make it
eh i guess so
shhhh dont disrespect the hub
sorry
ill let you guys decide, mega base or a village?
if you have no reason to portal frequently then it won’t be too useful
Portal hubs are the way!
😄 i love myself a well designed portal hub
but if you have portals going out to many places you need to visit frequently it works well
Village!
You can always have a more offset portal hub for the less used portals too you don’t need to have all your portals centralised
A portal at your smelting area to your surtling farms for example
on the dedicated server i now have a fortress with the main necessities, a fully stocked house for living with all crafting stations and upgrades, a barn with a mini farm for animals, a storage house, metal processing backyard, the refinery and a treasury for funsies
IMO, your main base will have approx. a dozen portals - one for each of the boss spawners, one for each of the main compass points (that hosts a number of additional portals), and one for each of the traders.
and of course a portal to the hub (and 4 others for quick access to certain farms)
And of course a blank portal ready to be connected whenever
yes, the travel portal
True, a Plains and Mistlands farm portal is good too.
Keep in mind your base doesn’t have to be permanent you can constantly adapt it as you see fit
start small and build up and experiment
yeah, its usually a good idea to leave yourself a bit of space for potential further expansions
Main base pro tip: Stilts. Put the floor of your base at least 1m off the ground so you can add workbench expansions and chests under the floorboards
Made your base on a small island? Expand it with the hoe then expand some more by raising the land as far as it will go, still not enough space? Place the tallest trees and make multiple floors as far as you can go, the possibilities are endless
that sounds neat, i just use shelves for chests so i can stack 2-3 on top of each other
I'm really loving the floor level chests.
Under the floor chests sounds like a good idea tbh I may need to apply that to my next base
I shelve too, but being able to add chests in the floor is super useful.
ye i can see the appeal
same
i bet if its done right it looks good too
Can’t wait to have my hands on some black metal chests
BM chests are awesome because you can recess them in stone walls so they only stick out ~.5m
I almost never use the reinforced chests. I never have enough iron and always too much bm
oh wow thats packed real tight
I never would use it early game. But post Ashlands is kinda post scarcity, so I used iron more.
Well, you have to seek out iron; black metal just falls on your sword. It's just a shame the chests are ugly as all hell.
i dont find them that ugly
I like the look of them, they're just so inefficient to stack.
speaking of which, i would love to see some ashwood chests, maybe with a rounded top like traditional treasure chests? would probably look pretty sick
You can get 6 black metal chests in 2x2 squares if you turn sideways. Works out ok
yo guys can a friend send me his world so i can play in my singleplayer with his world?
technically you can just use his seed and get the same world basically
yea but with his stuff already built
Yes! Ashwood chests would be great. There's so many arbitrary advancements/upgrades in this game.
honestly I'd be fine if the ashwood chests had less storage than the bm chests, maybe as much as the reinforced ones. i want those more for decoration than storage
uh...that one i have no idea, maybe ask in #valheim-help
thank you!
people there are smart
I just want some consistency. Where's my 1x1 grausten wall? And, my 1x2 grausten wall for that matter! WTF are those 'grausten roof corners'?! Where's my 'stone' triangles? Where's my 1m darkwood beams? Where's my 1x1 dividers? Where's my ashwood ladder? Why is basic wood the only thing that can fuel a fire (especially when corewood will fuel a furnace)? The list goes on.
The answer to that is simple:
Because the Devs haven't implemented it, most likely because they thought it wasn't needed. 🤷♂️
When building is a core part of the game, one of your first considerations isn't a 'standard build set'?
I kinda don’t mind the inconsistency in build pieces. It makes certain materials more suited for certain types of structures.
But I understand people who just want more flexibility
I disagree. And one of the irritating parts is that the pieces are there - you find them in Dvergr towers, particularly. Yet, there's no capacity to build them.
microsoft is here
Sure. It could just be a game design decision.
Which obviously is a matter of taste sometimes, rather than “ correct” or not
It's funny to see people not understanding this, you don't have to agree with it, you have to accept it 🤷
Their game, their choices. You might have been the one who bought the game, but they are the ones dedicating their life, time and resources (which I am perfectly sure outweigh the 20$ or less you paid) into it.
Hard-to-swallow pill: The customer is only right like 2/10 times (not always)
Never played Fallout 4, haven't you?
You got this nice building pieces in that game. Until you want to use a metal corner piece and find out it doesn't fit with ANY of the metal wall pieces.
And that's done by a AAA studio. So you surely expect them to do things right.
Because of that I've learned to simply use anything that the game offers me. And if that doesn't give me the result I want or doesn't have the building piece I need, I simply use something else to get the result I want.
Most important for me is not to show off with some building that has all possible building resources put into it and has cost me 10K hours to construct it.
Most important for me is that the building looks the way I imagined it, that it works the way I imagined it and that I'm happy with it.
I’m a pretty poor builder. I still can’t figure out grausten roof pieces
Of course it's their choice. That doesn't invalidate criticism. There's no way for the average user to know whether a game is what it is by choice, or by time constraints, or by oversight. Until we get feedback on criticsim, we can't know the devs intent. To say nothing is stupid, especially for an Early Access release.
Besides, if each and every material offers the same items over and over again, people may complain about this game not having any variation and instead having too many repeating building pieces.
Meaning, no matter what the devs do, they never do it right for a part of the community anyway.
dont be discouraged by this one, they are complex
i spent an entire day making a roof that looks passable on a 6 by 6 tile building (with a bit of outwards expansion)
I'm not suggesting 100% replication. The variety is key. I'm suggesting there should be (something like) a 75% core build set, then different materials can add something fun.
i spent 2 ingame days to get a roof over the a b c d e Portals for the Ashland... i failed... I can not make it fit together i will have to spent a lot more days to understand those pieces the can work i have seen bases build with them and they looked fab - i just have not gotten the hang of it yet 😄
i literally watched a yt tutorial on grausten roof 3 times before it clicked a bit
the entire thing of grausten roof is: they are meant for different build styles entirely
There's only one way to use them grausten easily - ignore those useless 'corner' pieces and build the roof on opposite sides, then use the 'wall arch' pieces on the perpendicular sides.
(Easily =/= good).
oh shoot i forgot to go back and empty that morgan cave after i killed the morgan 😦
As long as you haven't removed the items from the "containers" and left it on the ground, you can still do that.
jah only the bonefragments despawned... but i was a way off had to go back there first
hay Smiffe, are we ever going to destroy whatever harbors the Forsaken's souls?
done now... 😄
Well, at least you know it's still there.
I got 2 serpents marked at the map and both aren't there, although I thought they were storm spawns, not night spawns.
Had one spawning at night, but just before I was able to lure it to a nice piece of land to harpoon it and drag it on the shore it was gone.
So so far no good to get that 4th feast unlocked.
And then I encounter one when I didn't expect it. 😄
So at least I got the serpent meat now. \m/
ha 41 flametal from that spire... just before it sank
no 43...2 were already at home
i want to join someone to play anyone offering?
Try looking in #1024264966712340510
anyone else hear bells tolling in some of the ashlands music?
one of the tracks sounds like it has the muffled sound of a tolling bell in the distance, like if its echoing across the hellscape
That might be intentional 😉
Wouldn't surprise me, knowing what's needed to summon Fader.
But since I never play ingame music, I can't confirm if it's atually there.
interesting. firepit iron (from Hildr) isn't listed as a player base item. Do people think this is a mistake in the wiki?
at least it is getting a bit easier now not getting so much overwhelmed anymore with the ashland tier gear and weapons 😄 and sufficient food 😄
this was an omission in the wiki. it's being added as a player base item now
yep! While you still need to be careful in the ashlands, with ashlands gear/food, it's significantly easier than initial landing.
i have been placing campfires all over the place to not retake any clearing in the lava everytime i need to get through there 😄 that helps a lot! 😄 and destroying any spawner i can find... you gotta be strategic ... one of these runs i will manage ashlands without getting dead 5 times 😄
Does bulk crafting food provide the same bonus yield chance per dish as cooking one at a time?
Does Time of Day (TOD) command break anything? I saw skip time breaks smelters and spawns
I haven't noticed anything break when I use it
skiptime actually changes something about the world (its time), while tod doesn't actually interact with that time value at all. time still passes in the background, the day/night cycle just pretends it doesn't
Question about visibility and range of vision.
Assuming I've got max settings for draw distance, and I'm in a middle of an ocean - how far I should be able to see land?
High ground should be visible from further away, but is there any general rule about this?
I love when I grind for a cultist trophy and there isn't any cultist in the frost cave ~w~
Also it had like 9 hairs
mercy
omg I got broom trophy
this person bullied a broom
The game creates a 64x64m zone around the player which has moving entities within it, followed by a 3x3 grid of 64x64 around this that consists of frozen entities, followed by a 5x5 or 7x7 grid of low detail land apparently
Porcupine?
So you should be able to see 300 metres out at least
but only land
I usually see the shapes of mountains in the distance long before I see the actual land especially if it’s a big mountain
What about it?
a waste orr?
Try it
every item in this game was designed to be used if you like it use it if not don’t
It’s not a waste, it’s very effective against fuling berserkers and lox. It’s also pretty strong in mistlands.
Ohh making it
Unfortunately yagluth is resistant to pierce, but you should be using a silver weapon for him anyway
yes
I’m pretty sure the top four are silver sword, frostner, bm sword and crystal axe in that order
That’s why it’s fourth
kinda slow, also how to use the stone oven
I find it to be very helpful for fuling camps, you can easily stagger multiple fulings in one hit
just shove a lox meat in?
You need to make a food preparation table if you haven’t already to make raw food.
That food can then be baked in the oven
Oh i have one but never used it it has no recipes
Have you got barley flour?
It will have recipes the moment you get that tray from the Bog Witch
yes
Ohh buying time
You should be able to make bread dough then. I haven’t used this new table yet though
yess W, also where to find onions
You find them in chests in mountains
I was dumb before now i am good at farming
the skeleton places?
I’ve found them in towers and cabins
WW
is it possible to reset the number of days to 0 in the created world? thank you in advance
So the love potions function is just to farm gold from trolls right
You still haven’t played the new update? 👀
I’ve started but I’ve been very busy with other things. I’m about halfway through black forest
Ahh gotcha, understandable 100% lol
I’ve had to craft boar jerky for the first time since my first playthrough because I’m trying a perfectly balanced diet now that we have feasts
Oh nice, how’s that working out for you?
It’s too early to tell if I prefer it but it’s definitely something I’d recommend trying
OMG @nocturne wolf should I fear the dvergr mage?
I saw a small sail so I pulled over
Dvergr are neutral, but the mages are quite strong. You’ll have to fight them at some point in normal progression, so you can save fearing them for later.
Oh So I don't get inside the small building
as long as you dont hit or take from them they wont bother you
they will actually help you in the mistlands if theyre close
ohh greatt
yeah but you can go inside and check things out
they usually have pretty cool little bases
yee im in one
finally nice people
Just don’t accidentally damage their structures
ohh noted
WAIT, is my boat scratching their base is that bad?
guess youll find out 😂
No, vehicles don’t count
Ohh, im just glad I have company now
Are you using magic ?
If by any chance you get attacked by seekers and you hit their structures or a little splash it’s joever for you
Oh no it just yagluth spawner happened to be surrounded by mistland biomes
the mistlands is the bane of my exhistance lol
Man if there was a best early access category for gotys
Valheim would always be winning
Small correction, you can pick up the pickable lanterns and cups from the tower but not break anything or attack anyone there.
It’s not that bad
Does the used support change how far out a floor can go? Like if I use a wood beam vs an iron wood beam does that change how far vertical AND horizontal it can go? Cuz if only the horizontal beams affect support, I see no use for wasted mats on vertical iron beams
I don’t think it provides much normally I use natural environment as support so piller of stone from hoe but I don’t know I assume it’s a consistency to aesthetic thing
if anything vertical beams are more important than horizontal beams
I just looked that up on the wiki yesterday, apparently corewood beams lose 1/10 vertical and 1/6 horizontal while wood iron beams lose 1/13 in both direction
Well I just got lucky
however I was having a weird issue where every wood iron beam or pole I was placing was dark red stability no matter how grounded or close to other structures it was...
Bog witch, Haldor, and Hildar all within a few hundred meters of each other
noice
I wanna eat the bog
I don't understand the loss thing. So iron beams let you go higher and further out? Does that mean like iron beam holds 13 vertical and horizontal shapes?
I recall yagluth being bigger
the game has a support mechanic, if you notice when you have the hammer out structural pieces will be either blue (grounded, which gives maximum strength for that material) and then various shades from green to red as they get closer to breaking. basically the farther pieces are from the ground, the more they lose strength, but better materials can go farther for the same loss. you can look up Valheim Building Stability or Valheim Support Mechanic for the details
kinda odd that an asksvin skeleton counts as a player base item.
I know it has that, but I never figured out how flooring links to that if you have it above the ground. If iron beams could be farther apart than core wood for instance.
What does leveling the trollstav do?
more durability, that's it
alright, I also assume its not something you use so often
i only use trollstav when taking fortresses. but it's probably good anytime there's a lot of enemries around, especially morgen/valks
hypothetically if you have, say, a second floor, you should be able to support it with columns (poles) and beams spaced farther apart with better materials, wood iron > corewood > regular wood, etc.
and mining copper
Bizarre. I was always trying to find better "flooring" thinking stronger floors hold together better
yeah it has more to do with what's holding up the floor, or roof, that dictates how far things can span
materials have different support requirements, however.
"horizontal loss". stone is the worst, iron is the best
what\s yagluth drops
I finnaly did itt :D
Is wisps permanent?
yea
The "summoning stone" you build is.
The things "summoned" by that aren't.
They will only show up at nights or during a storm and disappear again at daytime.
The wisp that will become your light is permanent.
YAYYY
Oh and at some point you will be able to craft a torch / lantern thingy with wisps too. That one is permanent as well.
WWW
yagluth just taught me a way to farm stone in 1m
whats the difference between iron and wood torches?
looks and iron burns the resin a lot slower
and different build materials ofc
this game dead or what?
🤨
say what
i assume that is a yes
Ok.
i am one second away from pinging mods to tell them there is a troll
Ignore it Obi
@odd helm

All he did was ask a question 😅
Nah, games not dead
I don't understand what I did wrong
too many trolls these days
2 hrs sailing and I found Haldor....on the island 5 mins west of my main base
eh, that's pretty inoffensive as far as that goes
yeahh i feel on-guard about things nowadays
Thanks @light moat . It's nice to see someone I can have a simple conversation with
That's what @dusky pivot is for. Don't ping mods.
cracks internet Karen knuckles
I'm offended that you are not offended. 😛
Welcome to the server by the way
happy you’re here
You asked if the game was dead literally weeks after a huge update. It tends to rub people the wrong way. No harm done.
I see. I didn't realize my bad
As I say, no harm no foul. We just get it a lot and people can be a little jumpy about it.
And the devs are working on final full biome which will coincide with the 1.0 and leaving early access so we have that coming up too, no ETA yet, a new biome was also released a few months ago
Back to 3x resource rate
I honestly want to find an active server and when I saw the community server list was nearly empty I got sad and came here
Highly recommend
Servers are private by default. Most people play with their friends. Though #1024264966712340510 has some you can ask to join.
I made a post there but we are based in Australia
too much wood and stone, super annoying, inventory always cluttered.
3x is far too much, unless you have a full server, really.
Ah yeah, inv mod's up as well
Damn I'm in the US 😦
This is a good idea for the Ashlands quest but I don’t like it any other time haha
yeah i just don't really know what implies the game is dead
3x for Ashlands? The biome most people about the excessive amounts of pickups for?
Only the special quest there…
1 row extra inv solves everything
A lot of people mistake it for a live service game, where a lack of visible player counts = dead game.
I see
3 swords instead of one!
Now with crafting it can be up to 6
Well, they fixed that, thankfully.
Yep, it was fixed
- Crafting skill no longer provides bonus yield on armour and weapons
horrible skill now
It honestly made zero sense as it was.
Disagree
How do you accidentally make two swords?
