Whatโ€™s incorrect about other chests?

black metal chests are significantly cheaper than reinforced imo, which makes up for them being less space-efficient

black metal's in less demand than iron, and they just cost regular wood instead of fine wood

merry pebble

As Derek said. And if you want to go on exploration journey then dont try to fight too much, rather run and leave enemies behind ๐Ÿ™‚

wintry valve

slowly is the keyword. There are morgen, valkyries and sea serpents 2 everywhere

warm fog

I am thinking to have 1 person do bonemass and 1 yag

#

or yeah just barley wine haha

merry pebble
#

Eh, not necessary, have 2x bonemass so you can have it longer

warm fog
#

Of course you are right. Bonemass best power, better to have twice

errant knoll
#

Got my first set of flametal, about 70

#

Also yes, yagluths power is kinda irrelevant for the most part, barley resist wine covers just about all the elemental resist you need for the current final 3 biomes

thorn summit
#

What's the undead dragons power again?

errant knoll
#

Better to use bonemass or queen, once you get queen's power

errant knoll
#

It has no combat application

thorn summit

I mean the ashlands boss

Ah, it's an undead dragon huh? Haven't actually beaten ashlands yet so I didn't know

Tbh I don't really care for spoilers that much so dw about it, it's not like knowing its a dragon will help me fight it much

thorn summit

Yeah but I like to be considerate.

errant knoll

If I'm in valheim chat, I'm half expecting spoilers anyway

merry pebble

Tbh, that is quite healthy/realistic thinking ๐Ÿ˜„

errant knoll

Out of curiosity what are you wearing? A few times I've had to Don my heavy armor to recover my light gear in the ashlands cause that's what I use normally. I've always said my first swamp run is "run in and grab turnip, run out"

nocturne wolf

I donโ€™t actively seek turnips until I have nothing else to do with swamps

errant knoll

I seek turnips fairly quickly simply because I'll have more entrails than I ever need anyway

And it's annoying to be sitting on loads of stscks of entrails, knowing I can make efficient food but instead I'm stuck with inefficient food like deer stew

stray trellis

Oh ok. So donโ€™t immediately make tools?

stray trellis
merry pebble

gray sand
stray trellis
merry pebble
#

You will want pickaxe for mountains ๐Ÿ™‚ but for swamps you are probably better of with antler pick

stray trellis
#

Wait why not bronze pick

tacit crystal
#

Antler is easier to repair

gray sand
merry pebble
#

Eeeeh, you can repaire antler on site in workbench, its not really much faster and you can take 3 antler picks for more durability

gray sand
#

Ok or...

#

1 pick takes 1 inventory slot and durability lasts pretty much exactly to the point you want to go home to refresh Rested buff anyway.

stray trellis
#

Oh. Well Iโ€™ve been just rolling with bronze. By the time Iโ€™m overloaded with iron my weight is full anyways unless thereโ€™s a carry weight thing Iโ€™m missing

gray sand
merry pebble
stray trellis
#

No

#

Its vanilla no mods for first pla through

merry pebble
#

Thats the best way you can learn ๐Ÿ™‚

stray trellis
#

I may add the farming grid tho

merry pebble
#

Nah, farming is easy with bit of practice ๐Ÿ™‚

gray sand
# stray trellis No

Ok this is my method and you are free to play how you want:

Find the first room with a chest in the Crypt.
Leave all iron in said chest. Portal home with all the non-iron stuff when you need to.
When Crypt is clear, LEAVE THE IRON IN THE CHEST.

Repeat until all Crypts in the swamp are cleared.
Bring your new fancy boat with much larger inventory.
Do a "running run" where you go from Crypt to boat to Crypt until you have all the iron loaded. (Eikthyr buff recommended).
Sail it all home in 1 shot.

stray trellis
#

Iโ€™ll take note. Luckily the first swamp is about a 2 min run from my base where I set up but I have 3 more crypts I think, then itโ€™s boating time

#

Is the next boss in a crypt?

gray sand
#

Nope.

tacit crystal
stray trellis
#

Just like elder. Cool

tacit crystal
#

Some ruins also can have vegvisir.

#

Like in Black Forest

stray trellis
#

Iโ€™ve been doing a lot of sprinting through the swamp to the crypts

#

Theyโ€™re safer than outside

#

Will bronze mace work for the boss? Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™ve been using

gray sand
#

Yes. But you can make the Iron Mace to kill it even faster.

stray trellis
#

Mines lvl 3, figured just making it 4 would be similar to an iron one

#

Then using the next biome weapon

gray sand
#

Or you can make the Iron one and upgrade that to 4 ๐Ÿ˜›

stray trellis
#

Haha

tacit crystal
#

Lvl 3 or 4 Iron Mace has significally more damage than Bronze.

stray trellis
#

Is the boss parry-able?

gray sand
#

Parrying bosses is a waste of stamina.

tacit crystal
#

Yes but bosses cannot be staggered.

stray trellis
#

Oh.

nocturne wolf
#

Rolling and blocking normally are much better options

stray trellis
#

lol thanks

In summary:

  • iron nails
  • prep table
  • stone cutter
  • crafting upgrades

Then tools as needed?

Tools/weaps

gray sand

yeah well I dont trust them on that. I feel like they decided otherwise with the ashland

Your lack of trust doesn't change the truth.

I dont believe its the "truth"

wind mulch
gray sand
#

Your lack of belief doesn't change the truth.

wintry valve

I keep encountering battles that are not reasonable in the ashland. There's just too many of them. I was fending off a morgen, then two 1 star swordie shown up and a bunch of archers, so I decided to flee until it attractes a bunch of voltures. At this point it was just too much no matter where I would go. I think an askvin was in there too. Im sure its possible to fight all that solo, but this is beyond what I expect to be reasonable. This isnt made to be soloed.

It is made to be solo'd.
As many of us do solo it.

Which Skyrim? ๐Ÿ˜›

wintry valve
#

I mean if you talk about old zelda, im talking about the first game and link to the past. Neither were hard like that.

wind mulch
wintry valve
#

not really, no

wind mulch
#

the game was influenced by those games. Its a single player game that happens to have multiplayer

wintry valve
#

I mean I "kinda" see how you'd say its influenced by zelda, with how you need to find the right tool to tackle on the next zone. I hardly see how that relates with me thinking that the latest updates didnt take a whole new direction though.

wind mulch
#

i never said the newest updates havent taken a new direction. i mean its the hardest biome in the game for a reason

vocal rivet
#

Hang on, you're saying that it's influenced by Zelda because it's a single player with optional co-op?

wintry valve
#

I AM saying the newest updates have taken a new direction

wind mulch
vocal rivet
#

Mistlands was a big changer when they introduced magic, I don't think it's taken a particularly big swerve since then.

The game has had co-op since day one.

wind mulch

gray sand
wintry valve

I know the game had co-op since day one. I was playing this game a bunch of years ago with my friend then. It obviously had co-op. And if you tell me the game THEN was not co-op centric, I would have believed it. At the time mistland didnt exist yet.

gray sand
#

(Apparently)

wintry valve

But NOW, we have the ashland. I do not think the ASHLAND is made to be soloed, even if it is possible.

vocal rivet
#

Of course it is ๐Ÿ˜•

gray sand

It is very, very possible.

vocal rivet
#

That's literally how the game is developed.

wintry valve

yes yes yall are very good

wind mulch

so u think its too hard to be solo'd?

vocal rivet
wintry valve

I dont think its too hard to be soloed, I think... GAH whatever yall, think what yall want.

vocal rivet
#

It's not really what anyone thinks, facts are facts.

gray sand

It's not a matter of think.
It is a matter of know.
And your belief that the game is... not what it is ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ That's between you and your denial.

wintry valve
#

nah ur in denial

gray sand

So the entire dev team is in denial about the game they are making?

I don't think it's literally everyone else that's in denial.

long locust
#

also, if you're having issues with the game the world options are there for a reason, you can always edit them especially on solo

vital umbra
wintry valve
#

well mostly im having issues finding one iron, so now I am out of the ashlands to go to some swamp

vital umbra
#

mistlands swords and stuff

long locust
vital umbra
#

giant remains, whatever the hell they're called...

wintry valve
#

Id rather go in teh swamps

#

I hate the mistlands, it so hard to move around.

burnt glen
#

Nah, take a stonecutter and break the foundation of those large bridges in Mistlands. Tons of smelted iron ready without mining.

vital umbra
#

See i remember the ashlands being hell on earth in public test...just a few days ago i helped my friends get into the ashlands and i was like...uh....wheere the enemies at.

long locust
#

tbh it's not hard to get iron from the ashlands, putrid holes give plenty, if you're on a smaller island though you may not have enough of those

wintry valve
long locust
#

also, if it's such a big deal to you that you need this single ingot of iron for a stonecutter, you could just enable portaling with metals, get the 1 iron from your base, bring it back to the ashlands, disable portaling metals, and make your stone portal

vital umbra
wintry valve
#

And ive been trying to find them putrid things and I did find a few. I did get one iron, but I need another and I cant find another hole without aggroing the whole niflheim

kind pendant
long locust
kind pendant
#

i may have gotten a bit before but not large amounts atleast

long locust
#

yeah, iirc they provide bronze, iron, and silver

burnt glen
#

I'll fight 3x more enemies of other variety than like 3 askvins.

vital umbra
#

i personally found the askvin to be teh scariest to fight

long locust
#

asksvins are the bane of my existence istg, I sprint away to put my shield up and the instant it's up that mf charges me and 1 taps it

kind pendant
vital umbra
#

all the enemies with the batshit lunging attacks, the fenring are actually terrifying in their raid when they're not jumping off of cliffs and you're in the plains...

wintry valve
#

I just would like to tell what was my welcoming party in there. When I first set foot, I saw one of those undead that throws rocks. Fighting it and ended up having to fend, as I recall, one sea serpent, a morgen, a bunch of vultures, archers, and a few charred warriors of which I think a few had one star. I just got there.

long locust
long locust
wintry valve
#

Yeah well I have trouble with them encounters and its like... that all the time.

burnt glen
wintry valve
#

I can deal with them monsters easily individually except one star warriors

teal matrix
#

Morgen and warriors can eat me.

wintry valve
#

Yeah well... I dont have that

long locust
#

yeah, but the thing about the ashlands is you're never fighting them individually, gotta prioritize your targets

kind pendant
long locust
#

or blast the fuck out of them with fireballs

vital umbra
#

morgen are disappointingly easy to me.

kind pendant
long locust
#

true, I thought morgen were gonna be a serious threat but nah they just kinda spin around while I blast buckshot in their facemouthhole

burnt glen
teal matrix
#

I can't parry em worth af.

#

Need more practice

vital umbra
#

they're kinda stupid....all these acrobatics instead of any actual attacks lol...

burnt glen
#

You hatin' too much, they just wann roll

kind pendant
long locust
#

the only time I find morgens even a little threatening is in their caves, and only in a specific layout of the cave that doesn't let me cheese them by going back and forth through a tiny player-sized hole

teal matrix
#

As for charred warriors... I desperately desire their upwards slash on my 2H sword.

#

Hate the poke.

kind pendant
#

i hate the feint peirce

long locust
#

watching a charred warrior do a feint attack made me unbelievably glad I switched to mage as soon as I hit mistlands for the first time

wintry valve
#

The charred warriors fight like people from Chivalry II

long locust
#

if I were still playing melee and got killed by a feint attack I was trying to parry I'd lose my mind

wintry valve
#

I just stopped trying to parry them

#

I just block and whack when its my turn

long locust
#

honestly probably the best choice, better to block some of the damage than parry none of it

teal matrix
#

Gotta outpace their incessant death march to deal with the marksman and twitchers. Then I can work on the warriors.

wintry valve
#

Besides, when I parry, it somehow push them too far for me to hit them

kind pendant
burnt glen
#

I parry both of the attacks tbh

long locust

typically a single full combo from the axes will wipe out anything that isn't a morgen or valkyrie, even the asksvins eat shit

long locust
burnt glen

If it's just charreds, I think you could prioritize the range guys (marksman and twitcher) before warriors. Valkerye helps to shred them down a bit as well, if Asksvins get involved, I get the Klossen & shield out and start immobilizing shit.

i have to assume frostner coz of frost and spirit but im not sure

merry pebble
#

tbh probably frostner, but swords are much better there

nimble aurora
#

yeah thats the only thing im worried about

#

coz porcupine does pierce and charred resist that

cobalt canyon
#

Porcu's a crappy weapon

nimble aurora
#

its just that ive used swords for my last 4 playthroughs and wanna switch it up with something that wont mentally cave in my skull (spears)

merry pebble
#

I also go with swords most of the time, this playthrough i use atgeirs tho ๐Ÿ™‚

cobalt canyon
#

I keep both mace and spear handy

nimble aurora
#

although mistlands already had a lightning atgier so

merry pebble
merry pebble
cobalt canyon
#

Not with resistances being what they are

#

There ain't much that's resistant to both blunt and pierce

#

And alot thats weak to one of those

nimble aurora
merry pebble
nimble aurora
merry pebble
#

Only time it really matters is against "troll lvl" enemies and bosses

cobalt canyon
#

The movesets also work on different guys pretty well

#

Spear works very well on moder, mace doesn't

nimble aurora
#

atgiers are amazing for plains and black forest

merry pebble
nimble aurora
#

all the horde type biomes

random kayak
#

Maxed iron armor ๐Ÿ’ช

That means if a stray mosquito i'll only die in 2 hits

nimble aurora
#

root harnesk

merry pebble
nimble aurora
#

ik its ugly as fuck but itโ€™s actually op

nimble aurora
random kayak
#

Speaking of which I need to sail until I can find the bog witch....

#

God this is going to take 5 hours

#

I've circled multiple swamps and not a single bog witch

cobalt canyon
#

Bonemass altars

nimble aurora
#

i mostly find bog witch in the same swamp as bonemass

silver oracle
#

I got 70 Iron from a sunken crypt, damn

nimble aurora
#

coz theyโ€™re usually larger swamps

silver oracle
#

Scrap Iron, in fact

what do you do with scrap irons?

nimble aurora

silver oracle
nimble aurora
random kayak
#

Most swamps I found tend to be on the edge but this swamp somehow ended up in the middle of a giant landmass

cobalt canyon
#

I spotted a sealed tower before finding Hildir on my current world

random kayak
#

Miss bog witch I just want your ingredients PLEASE

random kayak
cobalt canyon
nimble aurora
cobalt canyon
nimble aurora
#

but late game its a great source of iron

cobalt canyon
#

Couldn't really say

random kayak
nimble aurora
#

especially since itโ€™s already smelted into bars

merry pebble
#

Crypts still remain the best source tho ๐Ÿ™‚

nimble aurora
#

as long as you have bonemass power and fire res you can pummel the tower with just iron

full dirge
#

has anyone experienced exploding ash land stair when walking on them? it dose enough damage to kill a fully loaded Ashland setup

nimble aurora
#

i would do it earlier on tho because its the only way to get chicken eggs before defeating plains boss

silver oracle
#

i got 70 scrap iron, is it enough?

full dirge
nimble aurora
cobalt canyon
nimble aurora
#

300 will get you through swamp

merry pebble
nimble aurora
silver oracle
#

how much will i craft with 70 scrap iron

full dirge
#

hmm

nimble aurora
#

for reference, one item costs 20 iron

cobalt canyon
#

20 for pick, 45 for forge upgrades, 10 for buckler

cosmic igloo
#

lmao "thor bestows a gift upon you", gives me 5 coal.. ya thanks thor

cobalt canyon
#

20 for mace

#

(10?) for spear

nimble aurora
#

dont make the smiths anvil, try get the forge bellows first

#

way cheaper

cobalt canyon
#

And forget the bow

i wish bucklers could use patterns ๐Ÿฅฒ

nimble aurora
silver oracle
#

iโ€™m using clubs and shields

random kayak
#

Tbh the bows I never interacted AT ALL that much because I prefer going into the dirt and stabbing my opponents

#

I didn't hear no bell

nimble aurora
#

bows are only really viable if you have like more than 40 skill

#

otherwise the stamina usage and draw time is too inconvenient

silver oracle
#

maybe iโ€™ll make a club and shield then go back for more

cobalt canyon
#

Wise

nimble aurora
#

mace and shield, upgrade them both and if you can, make the longship too

tepid prawn
#

I never limit myself to just 1 weapon

nimble aurora
#

especially if youre getting ore across the ocean, it has WAYY more storage

cobalt canyon
nimble aurora
#

yall dont even know the hoe is the ultimate weapon

silver oracle
tepid prawn
silver oracle
#

i got like 70 iron so i guess i can make a longship

nimble aurora
#

mace lvl 2 will be 30, buckler lvl 2 will be 15, then longship is another 10

tepid prawn
#

Iron for me: stonecutter, pick (stag silver etc), longship then a Weapon

nimble aurora
#

so youve got 25 to spare

silver oracle
#

found out a weapon thats called the porcupine so maybe iโ€™ll craft that

random kayak
tepid prawn
#

I need stonecutter urgently so I can put smelter in a swamp treehouse and hearth

nimble aurora
#

hearth my goat

silver oracle
cobalt canyon
#

Meh

random kayak
#

Porcupine is an intimidation tactic

nimble aurora
silver oracle
#

also found out the frostnar, idk how to craft that

random kayak
nimble aurora
silver oracle
#

ooh

tepid prawn
merry pebble
# silver oracle hm?

For plains its alright, for mistlands.. you can work with it but there are better options

nimble aurora
#

have you found haldor yet?

cobalt canyon
#

Hearth got a lot more useful in BW

silver oracle
#

nope

nimble aurora
cobalt canyon
#

Bog Witch

random kayak
#

I'm not going to craft frostner this playthrough because I overused it last time

nimble aurora
random kayak
#

I'm so tired of hearing it

nimble aurora
#

u can fit ketill, iron cooker, 5 wood cookers and cauldron on one hearth

tepid prawn
#

I havenโ€™t played with frostner for the last 7 or 8 play throughs

nimble aurora
#

neither

random kayak
#

It's cool but I just don't think I want to use it this playthrough

nimble aurora
#

swords are too cool

cobalt canyon
#

Any yall ever speedrun some fenring armor early game?

tepid prawn
#

Currently doing hybrid with HSE food and staff of prot and wilds and primal axes
