I'm trying to look for it but I'm not sure if I did
Searching for HEVC gets me some OpenH263 something something that's enabled
Should be right under "Enable GPU hardware encoding"
Its a setting in Steam game recording yes
hi
Oh, I thought it was a discord thing lol
But does it matter if it's enabled or not? Can anyone else watch the clip?
So I'm almost "finishing" Valheim with a friend. We are looking our next game to be No Mans Sky. Anyone here played No Mans Sky and could tell us how it's the game?
It plays fine for me
From a Valheim player vision

Basically changes the format of the video. I prefer having it disabled because not everything works well with the HEVC format
Well, in that case I just discovered that that is the case indeed
anyone else suprised we didnt get a dodge skill?
We have jump skill, and jumping is usually better
If the developers added a dodge skill now it would be a chance to take no damage when hit
if such a skill would scale i-frame length, boy would it be inconsistent to get the hang of the timing between characters
and dodgeroll stamina cost is already scaled off of movement speed penalty
Well... what do you want more than complete invulnurability when rolling? 😄
i was thinking more so,
Faster rolls and rolls cost less stam?
WAY too op
Just realized elder's aggressive vines play the skeleton attack sound lol
i WILL be playing ValhiemSouls and NO ONE is gonna stop me
mods exist
Over there
Then do, its already sooooooo easy to roll through anything XD
Why not jump? It costs less stamina, gives you more control over movement and you can start an attack WHILE dodging, which you can't do with rolling.
Make it like jump.
Less stamina and you roll further.
Just to fuck with people 😁
At skill 100, you roll three times before you can do anything else
Try to dodge. Roll so far you aggro more things. 😁
Blob when will you stop recruting people into the "jumping over stuff" club XD
stabroll i miss you
Make it so you roll faster so your immunity window is shorter
Jumping doesn't prevent dmg either
When there's nobody left?
this would be funny on say,
the queen room
So never? 😛 ||(just joking ofc 😄 )||
sometimes i accidentally jump when trying to roll because i time my inputs a lil too tight, and it usually gets me hit
0.5% less stamina usage per 10 levels 😎
i hope we get tamable goats for the DN :>
Damn you guys jump instead of rolling
Damn you guys roll instead of parrying?
Nah, mostly just Blob 😄
Damn you guys parry instead of tanking
I would parry but I don't want to swap between shields and flesh rippers so I just kick the enemy
I loved the flesh-rippers until i couldn't parry enemies that well anymore..
Damn you guys tank instead of turning on passive mode?
Cant the kick completely replace that tho?
No, it won't have enough stagger for enemies with more health, in later biomes
Damn you guys are turning on passive mode instead of using debugmode K?
There's more ways to fight enemies than parrying everything though
I was mainly talking about loxes, in my most recent experiences..
Its easy enough to just run in circles around them though..
Well it works on plains and I dont plan to have same weapon from mountain to mistlands I think
Yeah I was scared from them till I learnt this
Damn you guys are using debugmode instead of just talking about the game?
I'm just glad people are vaguely on topic.
Yeah lox also have much lower than normal detection range (for the player--seems like they have GPS for every hostile on the map, at least once tamed)
You guys are avoiding hits?
I'm wearing fenris set so yeah 🥲
reality is that parrying is my favourite way to fight, i hate tower shields and i hate having to dodge so i don't get 1 shot by everything.
Some played Super Mario when they were younger.
Guilty as charged.
anyone else have trouble getting enough beehives to support a groups food needs
Tell your friends to get their own beehives.
is root chest good in plains?
as long as you keep in mind that a few enemies there deal fire damage, yes.
fuling spear throwers and deathsquitos both deal pierce damage, so the root harnesk is a great help against them
Jump in the water every time you fight a shaman
once you've got some barley growing, you can make fire resistance wine, so that turns your fire weakness into a fire resistance
Playing a long run with lots of side stuff, building, exploration. I don't typically fight the boss of a biome whose next biome isn't complete so that I get the actual drop instead of the placeholder. I'm usually patient. But I had to cave this time and fight Fader early. I couldn't live without the spice.
Jumping in water gives fire resistance, you usually don’t have access to barley until after you’ve fought a few shamans.
The fire resistance is just as important with a bow as it is without. Either way, it’s useless if you simply don’t get hit
I do that sometimes, they’re one of the few enemies I actually choose to use a ranged weapon for (although in some situations I’ll still use melee)
for sure killing magic wielders from range tends to be ideal
I shoot the shamans because if I run over I’ll aggro the entire camp
i just figured out that you can throw yourself in a catapult
Gjalls and drakes are the only other enemies I use a bow for
Gjalls vs. Drakes is fun to watch.
For trolls and lox I use an atgeir or spear and for abominations I use my axe or a surtling spawner
is it a normal game mechanic for boats to not be able to be dismantled with the hammer?
The only damage type gjalls resist is fire, and their weak point resists nothing
Even if they’re the best choice, they still aren’t great against pierce resistant enemies because the total damage of bow + arrow is still going to be mostly pierce
i don't think many enemies are weak to spirit, it's just that most are immune, so being neutral to spirit sticks out
Charred, wraiths, ghosts and bats are all weak to it
Probably some other enemies too
nevermind yea i haven't looked at ashlands yet
Silver sword is incredibly strong against charred because of this
Spirit damage war hammer when?
Yeah, other Silver weapons fare pretty well too.
wouldn't call the swamp pretty weak though. draugr, draugr elites, blobs, oozers, skeletons and bonemass are all neutral
If it didn't have such an atrociously long wind-up, yes
i think like 33% of spirit damage's good reputation comes from the silver sword's stats simply being unusually high
no other weapon with a non-physical secondary damage type is balanced that high in damage percentages for its biome
Silver sword secondary will do 360 base damage in one hit to a charred enemy, crystal battleaxe will need to combo for this much damage and that takes much longer
wish its stat increases over the iron battleaxe weren't so sad compared to iron sword -> silver sword
I have used both against charred, I can kill a 2-star warrior much faster with the sword and if I’m jumping right, safety isn’t a huge problem.
Demolisher
himmin afl or frostner
Friendly fire is the strongest new weapon for large groups
it's actually still great
This statement is false.
are there no Eitr feasts?
lightning damage remains resisted by none, and morgens are weak to it.
it's the perfect damage type to counterbalance the downside of atgeirs being pierce weapons
Mistlands and Ashlands both have EITR.
...k. not what I asked..
and the secondary attack keeps everything around you away from you
That is exactly what you asked.
If you want to change your words to ask something else, the answer will also change.
What did you ask then? There are two feasts with eitr.
the whole point of feasts is that they're balanced, so there can't be an eitr-focused feast.
but unless you eat for eitr-eitr-eitr, they can be a great third slot for a good bit of stamina and health with bonus eitr
Ah. I was just making sure I wasn't missing something
no ashlands enemy on their own is hard
-# well except lord reto
it's the fact that they always attack you in groups that makes them hard
The knockback of Frostner keeps the enemies well away.
Even lord reto isn’t too bad because there’s no other enemies and he only uses attacks you already would’ve practiced against
Getting a full combo with the crystal battleaxe against a charred warrior without letting them attack always feels very inconsistent for me. Sometimes I can do it, or they get too close or are pushed too far.
Getting the first hit off without getting hit is inconsistent AF given how atrociously long the wind up is.
especially if you're fighting a group, the third hit of frostner is likely to hit something
1st and 3rd attacks usually hit the same target for me but with more enemies around I can whack them one by one away with full combos.
He’s just a charred warrior with bigger numbers so anything that works for them works for Reto
I think my game is bugged, I got hit by a 1 star troll so hard I can't auto pick up things anymore anyone have this issue before?
Press V
I'm on Xbox atm
Lb + push left stick
but the crystal battleaxe of all weapons is probably not the best one to replace it 😅
Frostner has the secondary attack that deals more damage too.
Silver sword level 4 secondary attack will do 481.5 base damage (before reduced by skill) to a charred enemy.
Why use anything else?
not really, frostner's damage types fare great in plains while the crystal BA already falls off, then frostner's relevance is kept alive by the usefulness of elemental damage in mistlands...where spirit remains useless
Defensive options and being lazy with silver mining
Mace secondary is very similar to battleaxe secondary except it does more damage instead of less
where the crystal battleaxe's per-hit damage is slightly higher than frostner, but it misses out on the freezing effect (and the safety of knockback if desired)
And yeah I hype over Frostner because it really carried me in my landing into Ashlands in my no death run.
but you can't do that mid-combo, that cancels it
frostner will very likely finally fall off in deep north, but i really think it's otherwise the most consistently useful weapon in the game
Frostner can't fall off because it isn't even on 😉 ❤️
yea yea say that to the ability to simply click once to prevent an enemy from hitting you at all
And that is okay, it then finally gets the retirement it deserved 🙌
Odd way to spell "prevent me from hitting my enemy" 😛
you hit the enemy already, and in just a second you'll get another safe hit
yea but i guess i'm too patient to worry about that 😅
And that's totally fine if it works for you better 👍
yea but it's way safer at a small kill time cost, and i'd value the former higher in a survival game
so do i
and he's the only one i've ever seen say that :>
Sevrahn can speak for Sevrahn.
Sevrahn also dislikes the battleaxe, as Sevrahn has stated multiple times now.
Sometimes Sevrahn says things just to poke at Winter.
Which Winter and Sevrahn both know.
Has Krom even been brought up yet?
Forget what I said about silver sword, this does more damage.
No
Replying with "I don't care" makes Sevrahn dislike all of your points and now agree with Winter that Frostner is an amazing weapon that everyone should use.
How?
Krom, Sevrahn's beloved.
Krom surely deals more damage but it costs more stamina.
yes, their reputation has undoubtedly gone up since the mistlands update (probably accidentally) removed multi-target penalty from them.
though it was never bad. people see a sword in the game and they think "ah yes, this is the dedicated weapon that's gonna be reliable", so of course more people are gonna try those than say, atgeirs. a lot of players simply never try some weapons, so that's where preferences often form.
swords are fine at their core, they should really get MTP back.
Sevrahn agrees.
Level 3 secondary attack has 486 base damage. If you think it’s low, your sword skill is too low.
Wait what, really?? I don't remember them having MTP before Mistlands..
Also you’re likely going to have a shield with a 1h sword, so you get more movespeed with Krom
that i think is part of the same accident - two-handed swords have multi-target penalty, which is pretty inconvenient for a two-handed weapon with big reach
yepp, they lost it in the mistlands update
Ahaa.. Didn't remember.
if they switched this around (took MTP away from 2h swords and gave it back to 1h swords), i think krom would be in a decent spot
In mistlands it (unlike almost every other mistlands weapon) has no elemental damage, meaning it’s damage is halved into seekers
Also in infested mines it’s big and likes to multi-target penalty into walls
It’s no demolisher
Parry Seeker Soldier, jump at its back and at same time wind up the secondary attack at the butt and Krom deals devastating damage, with high enough skill lvl and quality it cam also oneshot.
Why wouldn’t you make Lightfoot mead as soon as it becomes available?
Or feather cape in older versions, whatever makes jumping good
Yeah, there is that lump of metal that cannot probably call even a sword.
On Normal.
You never need to fight 20 charred at the same time
And Krom would kill most of them in two hits, or one secondary
Warriors in two secondaries
-# 168 slash? that's uh...a good bit more than the crystal battleaxe's slash and spirit combined.
what do you mean, charreds are neutral to slash
even factoring in their spirit weakness, that puts the crystal battleaxe at 153 but with longer wind-up than krom.
it probably wins right now due to not having multi-target penalty while krom does, but again i think that's a bug and should be fixed
Agility isn’t an issue if you time your jumps and attacks right
To add the movement speed penalty of -20% for Battleaxes vs. -5% for 2h Swords.
It's good at hitting things.
and krom is supposed to as well
it currently has multi-target penalty, but it really should not
What’s interesting about it?
all two-handed weapons lack MTP, 2h swords are the black sheep in that regard.
and 1h swords are the black sheep of their category for lacking it, and considering 1h swords lost MTP in the same update that added 2h swords, i think that's a very suspicious parallel
ngl that sounds slower than just hitting everything that comes close to you with frostner
Level 4 crystal battleaxe secondary has 76.5 damage per hit before being reduced by skill
I think it’s less damage
Did you count dual wielded weapons on same two handed category?
At least 24 hits to kill a 2-star charred warrior
no, i think what defines 2h weapons is their crowd-control potential - big, wide hitboxes and a lack of MTP
dual-wielded weapons behave like 1h weapons in both regards
It’s 60 damage on CBA vs. 95 on fro (at lvl 1 weapon, not accounting for weaknesses or skills
Okay, thanks for clarifying.
Since afaik Berserkir Axes have MTP and counts as two handed in game.
in the sense that they don't allow you to wield a shield or torch in the other hand, yea
Yes, I checked the wiki after, 100KB vs 140 KB
i just don't think that part of a weapon being 2-handed is as impactful on gameplay as the pattern of 2h weapons being slow, wide-reaching and cleaving (granted, atgeirs break the first point of that pattern)
Does anyone here know what the berserkir axe secondary actually does? I know the animation sends me forwards but can’t find any numbers for damage, knockback or stagger on the wiki
2x damage afaik.
It says it “cost 32 stamina and is a leap forward followed by a slash with the both axe for a single hit, dealing 2x the damage.” on the wiki
i don't think i've used shields much in ashlands. the food i eat is too cheap for me to confidently risk parries, might get oneshot.
I do a lot of numbers to figure out how to not get staggered and not get oneshot because I like dealing 2x damage to stunned enemies
i probably would too if i wasn't feeling too lazy to do farming for food
I always carry shield. Paired with Klossen and Storming Splitnir.
up to mistlands i eat honey, cloudberries, wolf jerky and sausage
I always carry a shield but usually don’t use it
Risky situations are the kind of situation where a shield won’t help? Such as against starred charred warriors too strong for it? I usually use it to parry enemies like abominations and stone golems that are too tanky to kill quickly without parrying.
"Shields are overrated" 😂
Now I'm intrigued of your playstyle..
Yes, but with their high damage a shield isn’t going to help much, and there’s high risk as a single mistake could kill me
what?
no, i choose food 20% based on stats and 80% based on how little dedicated work you have to put into getting it.
sooo i already know all of my favourite foods.
i'll start farming if the scythe handle is no longer gated behind a boss kill, but til then, no crop foods for me
Given Winter is friends with both people who wrote and maintain the food sheets, Sevrahn doubts she needs any tips on food.
"friends"
Sevrahn is hurt that Winter is declaring they are not friends 😦
oh that wasn't about you haha
You are starting to sound like "I AM CORRECT AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS WRONG/EASY/DUMB" so... 🤷♂️
you seem to have a lot against krom and shields
well that's fair
Krom is a great weapon.
Frostner is good.
Shields are great.
"Shields are useless" lmfao....
No to both.
well that depends on your diet, but my cheap-eating butt isn't one to speak on that
very hard difficulty, in ashlands, still loving shields because I don't care enough about stamina to have more than 160 max (that's 3 Ashlands health foods)
Being left open to hits is only a problem if you’re actually letting yourself get hit.
i'd assume most people play on normal, where shields are gonna be better
you could have 300 HP if you really want it
HHS entering Ashlands has you at 220 Health. Just saying.
300 HP is my shield diet, Krom is better with more stamina
high stamina is overrated imo, unless you're sprinting around between attacks, there's plenty time to regen to full
Now that we have feasts, why not have a balance of both?
I prefer 2 stamina but the option is there, at least
i respect that
I'll consider health health feast
hi winter hi sevrahn
hiyaaa~
So literally all of your weapon/shield advice can be thrown out the fucking window because it is based on sacrificing stats for EITR in your build.
😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
what're we heated about this time
I chose my words very specifically and I stand behind them.
ashlands, they're pretty hot
i'mright.com is declaring their rightness 🙂
And when being met with opposition, doubling down.
im not scrolling up im judging the messages i see rn, is this health vs stamina vs eitr or something
-# i don't think mocking people helps though
That is you.
That is how you play.
That does not translate to "In all situations for all people of Earth, shield are useless and Krom is a shit weapon."
No, because that would be a rational argument.
-# You know I stop reading after the lowercase i is placed 😦
sev that's like a solid chunk of my messages
"Shields are great."
IM CONFUSED WHATS GOING ON
"Shields are great."
Nothing you're missing out on, but your caps lock might be broken.
I don’t have any issues with shields in ashlands
"Shields are great."
I never use shields because I've never seen the point. See how different views are equally valid?
Flametal Mace
Nidhogg
Splitnir
Basically, Jonitin is right and so is Sev, somehow.
A shield has worked out just fine for me liike 100% of the time, there was never a situation where "oh man i wish i didn't have this shield" was a thing
Apparently "list the one-handed weapons" turns into "now list all two-handed weapons" which leads to "The fact there are both types of weapons means the game hates all one-handed weapons."
🤷♂️
There’s more two-handed options but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t use the one-handed options
don't two handed weapons have less block armour than shields?
Yup.
Then craft a new one?
Sooo....wheres....whats wrong with shields then?
it has a 1h polearm but no 2h polearm, and its 2h sword has a 1h counterpart
it also has a 1h club but no 2h club, after mistlands was the other way around
I have a purist build, If i'm using magic i'm not using melee and vice versa, Sword and shield was completely viable in the ashlands.
Does anybody here know what exactly causes lag in Valheim. I know a High instant count will cause a fair amount but I wanna know what that limit that would be alongside other things that.
Also on another note. A shield is and always will be a Vikings most important weapon.
But if someone doesn’t want to lose stats for eitr, shields are still useful
i love purist builds haha
"If you build his specific way, it is not conducive to shields."
Ergo
"All builds should forsake shields as his specific way is the sole way anyone should play the game."
really the only weapon skill that drives us away from shields in ashlands is axes.
and knives since skoll & hati remain the last for now
That is completely false...
I would rather have a shield than parry with the weapon alone
The chance of you using them is going down.
That does not mean the general, overall, objective chance of people using them is changing at all.
i like one handed weapons, and i use them because i like one handed weapons, 😵
how much stuff it takes for your game to start dropping frames depends on your hardware, but i wouldn't know exactly how that scales, i'm no techie
It just so happens that with one-handed weapons...well what is the other hand doing? not using a shield? why?
yea that's what i did with elder. i had a atgeir for my heavy hitter and would shield to withstand the stomps
however i pretty much stayed as a mage once i unlocked it so never rlly did it again. i prolly would've made a melee set if i had more time on my friend's world
wut does combo or armor combos mean
I like the 2x damage from parrying
I mean i love agility and when i'm in any biome thats lower than my present i use light armour....but if i'm going to be fighting i fucking hate the feeling that i can get one shot unless i dodge, i wanna tank...
oh right. like the root chestplate
Root chest is great
i never was a fan of that but it works
i don't like how it looks so i don't wanna use it 🗿
Root chest is great if you aren't blocking or dodging.
don't dominate @robust delta
dominate me instead
If you are blocking and dodging, Root chest is meh.
I prefer fenris pants with heavy helmet for more speed
😃
what is happening
Helmet? You mean Dverger Circlet? 😏
no idea
What if I block, dodge, parry, and am bad at the game
what if i just decide to take less damage
Only if you're not blocking or dodging.
why slash
Take less damage through sheer force of will
Yes.
Press Z, take no damage 😁
Or bonemass
You're not understanding that Root chest is terrible because I say it is.
The pierce resists don’t stack
Idk man i don't like meta stuff, i use whatever is present in the biome i am in, otherwise i feel weird.
It doesn’t give slash resist
resistances don't stack, so once you've popped bonemass, the resistance of the root harnesk stops mattering and you're left only with its low defense (and fire weakness if you didn't drink a wine)
it doesn't resist slash, only pierce
in the meadows i use leather, black forest bronze, swamp root, mountains fenris, plains padded....so on and so forth 👽
-# There is a technical exception to this.
-# yes yes the serpent scale shield
i'll make them stack, or else..
In singleplayer you don’t have full bonemass uptime, so I sometimes carry 2 chestpieces
oh don't get me wrong, i use the root harnesk for the whole game, i'm just saying combining the bonemass power with the root harnesk doesn't really do much (especially in the hypothetical scenario in which the root harnesk would also resist slash, which it doesn't in reality)
that said, i also have bonemass equipped for the whole game
Also new berserker potions and ask armor help with that
(poor wording: it does do much, it just doesn't do more than simply using bonemass, their initial comment implied the resistances stack)
i have discovered a physics bug
when you stand on the catapult basket and throw something, you go flying with it, if you have the feather cape you fly in a straight line forward
how far you go i have yet to descover, but when you go, you go
that was actually put in on purpose
or rather, the fact that your character tilts along with it was intentionally added
That's not a bug
And it's known since day 1. They literally even posted a vid showing that you could do that
if you know where to find the highest peaks of valheim, you can travel quite the distance
Have you at least tried mining flametal with explosives?
There's literally someone saying above you can traverse long distances with them
Another declaration of "useless" 😄
It can be a bit tricky to aim but once it’s done you can get flametal very quickly, but it’s less useful now that flametal is less likely to sink.
I usually use ladders and jank to get into fortresses. So I’ve never used the siege machines
i dont look at the promo material till ive seen what they are promoting, ruins the feeling of descovery for me
Fair enough
No, you'll just tell us we're wrong.
did you know you can throw a Lox with the catapult?
Lox*
with the new ship we can transport 2-3 loxes at a time! this means we can supply ammo even faster
It's just lox 😦
Mooses
loxen
Meese.
loxen sounds better but unfortunately lox is canon
so Loxen't
Lox sounds better and is fortunately canon. 🙂
But this person is talking about making a lox cannon.
😏
Loxapult
now i wanna test if their weight counters the catapult's swing
Screw Trollstav. I want Loxstav.
their hitbox probably refuses to center on the bowl and sticks to every other part of the catapult
i just rode him up the catapult till he was sitting on it
Or maybe in DN we get Abominationstav?
then when i activated it he got yote about 200 feet into the ocean
he can swim
i mean he didnt sign up for the Yggdrasil aerospace exploration program, but i sure sent him
They basically are walking feathered capes.
So yes, they fly.
should work even better
once i get a breeding pair of asksvin i will test that one myself
same exact distance, well, not surprising
Imagine if we had Gjallstav 😄
a giant burning gjall skeleton surrounded in a nimbus of flame that spews forth fire that would make the Nidhogg itself blush
Undead gjall that shoots frost instead, and spawns undead ticks 😄
im trying to see if i can throw a cart
I can't imagine why.
as far as i can tell, carts cannot be thrown
heya
salutations
yk, I love the mistlands because it's all magic and witchy and shit but I also hate it because I despise bugs
i hate bugs as well but hmm atleast its not spiders
fair enough, tbh though the ticks are so much worse
at the very least I get to firebomb the bugs so that makes it all worth it
tbh
ive yet to get to mistlands
i keep putting off playing more cause the world used to be with my freind but he too busy now 😦
anyone wanna chat while we play valheim? im canadian and im 16
(not a segs bot)
if anyone just wants to chill?
idk that pfp makes me think otherwise buddy
Please stop.
okay sorry

now i kinda feel bad for patrick
Battering ram for boss location?
Eh?
Fortresses.
They just randomly spawn in biome?
Just like everything (crypts, burial mounds, fuling villages, infested mines) yes.
Thx
does the bog witch have the same amount of possible spawn points as the other two traders
My b 😦
I believe so, yes
I think that should not be the case if the swamp is so rare in comparison to others
I know that feeling bud
Battering ram can be completely ignored
It’ meant to be used on the dungeon/enemy structures in the Ashlands, but at the moment it is faster to just hop over the walls by building wooden platforms
I’m hoping the team makes building on the fortress walls unsupportable or adds some kind of spawn protection in to stop this kind of shinanegry, but right now it is the fastest way inside
Aight
Is there any written info like wiki pages or soomething on the new bog witch stuff on what is used for what? it's a lot of stuff
Quite a lot stuff Is still work in progress i believe and thus isnt show when just browsing the Wiki. But if you search for specific stuff in Google it will most of the time give you the Wiki page even when its still marked as WIP 🙂
Is there a way for me to find out what the items are used for?
It should be on their site if they have it
But if you want to know what specific item does and you can't find a Wiki page for it you can always ask here 🙂
Who do the tamed boars run?
im sorry, what?
Morgen gjall.
They want to break free, they want to break free, they want to break free from your ties.
In all seriousness they either get spooked by something and they will run or they want to return where they came from.
Their progeny won't want to return where they came from but they will still run when they get spooked by a mob.
Anyone know how I spawn stuff in on my server I’ve made myself admin but I keep getting spawn is not a recognised command. I’m on xbox
If it Is a dedicated server you can't use devcommands, admin command are ban kick and like that
To use devcommands you would have to host the server on your own device
Ok thank you
I love Ashland heavy armor
After shitty carapace set, it's so freshy
What's wrong with the carapace armor?
is it even worth to craft full iron armor
my idea is skip the iron chest plate and keep root harnest for pierce resistance
and get iron helm and iron leggings since going in the mountains with armor below iron gear is a death sentence
For mountains you might want the iron chestpiece, not a lot of pierce dmg there, but for plains it will come in handy 🙂
that will surely put a dent on my iron
its like 35 to craft an iron chest plate
i cant remember
I mean you don't have to 😄 some people still use troll there
35 total for level 3
20 for level 1
And 35 iron Is really not a lot 😁
gonna need me a bigger swamp
Spike hand variant Golem deals Pierce damage with its spike hand so Harnesk can be handy against that. But inside the Caves it can be death sentence if careless.
True that, i forgot that golems can do pierce 😄
Many would imagine Wolves dealing Pierce damage with their bites but it is all Slash they deal.
I make the root armor, good for the bow, against poison and pierce, the root harnesk will be good in plains.
In mountains I progress to fenrir set for zooms and good against fire (helps tremendously against yagluth).
I am more of a hit and run or ranged fighter though, so it might not work for your playstyle.
I go bow with a knife + buckler backup and transition to mage in the mistlands.
Yep that i remembered, and it makes sense they do slash, wolfs basically catch you with their teeth and then they tear the flesh, not really much of the crushing bite that makes the teeth puncture through and through 🙂
It makes sense they do slash because if they had pierce damage mountains would just be too easy
Also that ^
But didn't wolves also hit with their claws, not all their attacks are bites?
No matter tho, but it makes more sense they deal Slash.
They only have one attack, a bite
They will also trip you up so blunt thrown in the mix would also work.
Same irl
I recall some of their attack animations to be hitting with the claws. I have to check that when possible.
I’ve only seen the bite attack
In one of the animations they raise the front part of their body, but it's still a bite.
they have multiple different bite animations, one of which has them kinda jump up, maybe that looks like a claw attack
The wiki also says only bite, then again even if there is a claw animation that would also be slash.
Battering ram use bones as fuel? Still didn't crafted it, but found fortress
It uses wood
Hmm, could be that. I'm usually busy timing my parry against them since they attack fast so haven't noticed that detail. Especially in this Hard run.
Any wood?
I've only tried normal wood
Mkay, ty
Normal and Ash wood at least work, I'd imagine other woods (except Yggdrasil) working too.
Yea, i was curious about ash wood, but then remembered that fortress sitting on lava lakes and ashen desert
You can find some sources of ash wood at the Fortresses, the flags. Breaking them drops 2 ash wood.
Forgot about them, lol
Whats the overall opinion on auto hdr in valheim?
am i only one who has a lot stuttering in valheim after recent patch?
Asksvin can be 2s, right?
I've seen a lot 1s
Yes, but 2 stars spawn at night only
They are a bit bigger i think, and different color you will not mistake 🙂
since it sounds like you know what you're talking about... is it worth it to tame one? I never tamed anything higher than boars... so.... 😄
Oh, i didnt tame them myself so can't really say if Its worth it unfortunately, i only know how they look. But i figure they will make a good base defence just like wolfs 😄
They drop tails which is needed for Firey Svinstew
farming them is worth it if you can dig a pit to tame one i would
daheck is an askvin
Ashland mob
oh, nvm i never asked anything, havent reached that yet
started a new playthrough xD, cause i accidentally deleted my world LMAO
RIP but mood, recently started a new playthrough with my friend and we both realized we deleted our old characters
Working these skills from the ground up. 💪
thats even worse. BUT WE ARE VIKINGS!
💪
Damn... deleting a char is hard...
I've got a char with bow skill about 90 or something... but a bit cheated 😄 on release it was possible to level weapon skills on rocks... so.... maybe I did 😄 But I don't use that char anymore... feels like cheating 😄
xD if it was in the game already, then id say it isnt cheating
hm.. ok 😄 and yeah but base defense isn't a thing since I build a nice wall including some defense chrossbows 😄
ok, rather exploit 😄 but it was removed shortly after 😄
They are definitely worth taming since they breed so fast and you can easily breed them anywhere, they are also good for transport. The earlier the better as you enter the ashland since that will save you a lot of time hunting them to gear up and make the best food
yeaa
i knew it was in the game back then but never really tried it
So my first try at melee on ashlands has me killing 2 Morgans, 1 fallen Valk, 1 asksvin, and some trash all in a short span of time. I didn’t die and they did. Ok. Much better than mage build I was doing before lol
Well. Not better. Faster. Less safe.
Faster is safer as you can dismantle anything that comes at you very fast and efficiently so you never get overwhelmed
Very different than running around with 4 skellies and trollstav and vines and bubbles though.
Sounds like waiting for a lot of eitr regen. Lol
I was running full mage gear so wasn’t bad. Yes, skellies had a setup time at beginning.
Just landing my Ship on the coast was crazy enough!! There we were... 4 of us, full sail through jagged rocks lining the coast untill we saw a break in the rocks and bolted for the coast.... Meanwhile the Bonemaw Serpent was spitting fire at the boat and vultures come from behind the rocks!
Was supposed to be an easy test of melee, but things just kept happening. Lol.
In my current group all of us really want to dip our toes into a mage build but that also means giving up armor and basically starting from 0 on combat skills, think whoever decides to go for it first will just have to stay behind the meat wall of the rest of us.
then....then.... we make land and everything in the ashlands was on that coast
That's the intented experience!
gotta love that, it gets from 0 to a 100 real quick xD
I'm looking forward to it tbh, all of us leaping out of the ship to fend off the hellish legions. Lol
Well..... already got the highest Gear 😄 Riped 5 fortresses with a friend yesterday and crafted the quest-sword 😄 Only the boss is missing... but I'll tame one (or better two) since searching them is pain
There might be a next time and yes, always 2 or 3 at the same time no matter the tame
just gotta love that feeling, its like that warhammer 40k scene when calgar jumped off the ship and started defending preetty siickk
yeah. But since there is no "we have enough of that" I'll tame some and fill up the chests 😄
My experience in multiplayer was people panicking, hitting the boat more than the 3 vultures (I had to stop to make a workbench on the pillar so they wouldn't finish destroying the boat) then they panicked even more as we landed and started running away and aggroing everything on the beach until they found the courage to try to defend themself only to get absolutely destroyed
i remember back then xD, me and my friends just arrived to the plains, suddenly one of us got sniped and scurried everywhere like rats, ahhh good ol days.
my boat is floating in the air, is there something I can do to make it remember what gravity is?
just bought the game today
maybe grab the Rudder, could help
welcome, good decision 😉 but don't read to much hear since you'll catch som spoilers
went into the game blind for about an hour, first off: the game is absolutely beautiful
like holy i could sit down for hours looking at this game
You likely will
welcome to valheeiimmm
Yep... you will 😄 just sit there, enjoy the beatiful weather animations and relax to the sweet background music like all of us did at least once 😄
my main complaint is that i can’t make my character a dwarf, i literally named my character gimli
Welcome fellow Valheimian.
i advise to play the game blind and only come here to ask questions if you really get stuck and haven't got a clue what to do next but try and find the solution yourself first and take your time.
With the right camera angles you can make it work ^^
really? thats cool
Literally going into it blind rn, no tutorials, no guides, just figuring out how the game works
maybe i could play with randoms after that
I'd say 1 Star Asksvin is enough and worth it, 2 Star is just bonus. And it requires RNG on your side, I have tamed 2 Star in two worlds and during the first time it took 15ish nights to get one spawned and during second time it took 2 nights.
Awesome and that will give you the best experience but you will have some "O shit, O shit, O shit." moments or at least I did.
Just be ccarefull about going in here and reading too much 😄 most of the stuff people will be talking about here will be most likely spoilers for you
Gimli was the biggest actor of the bunch and was still portrayed as one of the smallest.
the devs have said they will work on achievements for 1.0 release i believe
YEEEES
Fuck
No GIF privileges for you or anyone that is lower than a helper.
😦
Felt inoffensive enough to repost
Until a deer ruins it with their call
holy the soundtrack
You are correct: #general message
Flexing some GIFfing?
Just providing a service~
The devs are chad, that is a given
If it was patched out because it was considered an exploit, it was absolutely cheating
Maybe the tame animal breeders
But that one doesn't really seem possible to fix so it stays
hmmm interesting...
so i noticed when you make food or harvest crops there is a chance to get extra, but i just did that by making an iron sword. is this normal now?
That's how the crafting skill works
spare iron sword for when the first gets stuck in a tombstone
Yes, the "crafting" skill now gives you a chance to produce 1 extra of any item crafted at a bench.
That part of the skill doesn't seem to be reflected on the wiki's description for it right now, for some reason? (The chance of a bonus item is listed for cooking and farming.)
The following activities give Crafting skill experience:
Crafting an item gives one experience
IRON GATE FFFS
They REALLY need to stop that obsession with ONE exp for everything
I am REALLY hoping I'm misreading that as I do NOT want to believe that crafting TROLLSTAV gives me the exact same exp as crafting a FLINT AXE
I mean, arguably worse, crafting a trollstav gives the same xp as building a 1m wood piece with the hammer
Repairing a structure gives up to one experience, proportionally to the durability repaired.
But this is nice tho. Now wood weathering is more beneficial
But you can build a lot, meaning that that is understandable. An average base should have hundreds of pieces, that's hundreds of exp from one base
night spawns are THE worst... nearly gave me a heartattack when i came out of an infested mine with low HP and a bubble still up..it was right outside the gate and attacking the moment i materialized... bubble saved my live... i jumped over it ran along its back up the staris and out the door through my portal... geeeez game... i am to old for such jumpscares 😄
But now would be a good opportunity to implement a hover repair feature
oh it was a ** seeker 😦 it would have one-shot me if my bubble was not up
Yes, I like that it gives you the xp, I just think it undervalues the trollstav even more, given relative cost and ease of replicability
Kinda. In that case it just reaffirms what I said.
They could've AT LEAST made the exp proportional to the item's tier. I wouldn't have minded if every single flametal gear gave the same exp as long as it was a lot and even if some are harder to craft than others.
It's still leagues better than ONE exp for crafting the current most powerful items in the game
And said gear is crafted in very limited numbers, if it's just you, it means you only got ONE exp for the skill. Even if multiple players it's still a miserable amount
If you think about how much crafting you do during that game you would get your levels up to 100 before you even reach the point to craft that stuff so it would not matter anyways?
I also saw someone say at some point that the scythe gives points per what it harvests, but wiki seems to indicate it's purely by number of uses... which would make the scythe substantially worse for gaining xp, rip
Ah, yeah, when I said "arguably worse" I meant "a more extreme example of what you're pointing out", I did not mean it as a contradiction to what you were taking issue with. Sorry if it came across otherwise!
One exp makes sense for some stuff, more specifically ones you craft many times, like ammo, bombs, etc.
But I talk about weapons and armor, you craft one per player, that's one exp per craft. And that's IF one player craft the gear, as each could craft it on their own.
They really need to dedicate a whole update to the skill system alone. It is getting worse and worse and developing the game further on broken foundations might end badly
Weapon/armor crafting and extensive base construction are also tasks that, in my experience, can get split between players, meaning someone who does less base building is just getting next to no xp even if they do 100% of the armor/weapon crafting and inventory maintenance tasks
Although I guess if your crew goes through a lot of arrows you'll still gain a few levels;;
That's true.
The more you think about it the worst it gets.
The skill pretty much encourages that only a limited number of players dedicate themselves to the crafting and building.
Wasn't there a skill that reduced stamina consumption when using weapons? I thought the crafting skill was the one but it's only for hammer
Oh wait it's the durability, nvm
Heh, gotta love when no materials went into increasing quality from 3 to 4.
Yeah, each skill for weapons reduces the stamina usage 🙂
Upgraded Crystal Battleaxe just without a cost.
any way to fix scrolling on the map? every time i try to move the map it creates a bunch of pins.
I am still not sure that is intentional (i would even bet it isnt)
Do you have something like autoclick active perhaps?
I'm not either. But it is still there.
I mean, gotta love when you save 45 Silver bars.
Well... Saving the least used metal in the game? Sure i guess... xD
Well. Saved nonetheless. Might even create Silver Sword then.
nah, every time i click the map to move it it makes a pin
Quick clarification. Is the new npc Witch gonna spawn in alr explored areas or only spawns in unexplored swamp areas in an already existing world?
is autoclick a feature?
I really looking forward to seeing what the mistlands feast willl be... not there yet... the queen is still alive 😄 i love to find new things in this game 😄
Could be faulty button then, it can double click if its worn out, or some mouses have actual double click feature
Only ones you didnt explore yet
I see, thank you
How do you manage like which bases is your crafting hub? I have a main base which is on the center of the island but a smithy/crafting base near the shore and a black forest
Just had a thought, does anyone have sailing races??
I am pretty sure someone does, but cant talk from experience
Since sailing is pretty consistent by environmental factors, I don't think it's a popular thing to do. But it could be interesting to do a world with a fully revealed map and make players do a "the amazing race" style thing... "you are in the ashlands with only enough materials to make a raft. Your goal is to touch these six boss altars and make it to deep north. Good luck, players!" 😂
Sounds impossible considering there is only one sailing race: Human vikings (unless modded)
how long does it take usually for surtlings to respawn on a geyser
5 minutes iirc
do campfires or workbenches prevent them from respawning
they should not disregard this 😄
they do
surtlings? i thought they DID surpress spawning around the geyser like normal
it sure did FEEL like they did when I setup my surtling farms (wasn't getting spawns, moved a bench, suddenly immediate spawns)
only breakable monster spawners ignore spawnproofing, for surtling geysers, it's not actually the fire that spawns the surtlings - there are 3 invisible spawners placed around the fire which function the same as other respawning spawners
also do you have to be within a certain radius of the geyser for it to spawn surtlings?
Oh, i counted them as spawners like the gredwarf and meat pile etc... they are not that...
the respawn needs you to be within render distance, but the cooldown goes down even when not loaded in
so if i were to just walk rounds between multiple geysers and afk for 5 minutes occassionally that would work?
yep
sweet.
I once found a chain of like 5 geysers across a swamp. It was delightfully efficient. Almost all of them were in sightline of at least 1 other geyser
i'm using a world map gen so i intend to find the best place to do this
my goal is more so coal than the cores
Yeah, you quickly hit core saturation. The trophies are fun too though.
i see
Ahh ya, an amazing race Valheim style would be cool hah
in teams of 2, hah, that would be hilarious to watch i think
what is the despawn speed of loot in the ashlands?
like everywhere else, 2 days / 60 irl minutes
ok
last two fortresses ive raided the chests have been broken and the loot despawned almost instantly
sleeping affects this timer accurately
when will we get achievements to valheim?
1.0
whens that
It's either releasing with or after the deep north
yea but whens that
We don't know
approximately?
I'd guess late 2025 or early 2026 but there's also a good chance it could be longer
DAMN BOY🤯
i would take the amount of time it took from mistlands release, to ashlands release, and add 50%
whatever that is. as long as we are pulling numbers out of the air
Seems reasonable.
Higher crafting skill means
I can get another tool for free and also
When you upgrade it has a chance that it wont use the materials?
Nope, just the first part. You have a chance to make a duplicate.
Huh, first time I ever heard of that. As far as I know, that shouldn’t be the case. What bow?
huntsman bow i can gaurantee cause it uses 30 iron
and i still have the 30 iron on me as im still carrying to much
And the bow is level 4 now?
yeah
Weird, maybe a bug then? Not sure, haven’t heard this happening before. Are you using any mods?
i could have sworn i just saw someone here mention they got a free upgrade. @tacit crystal maybe?
i would not be surprised if the Crafting skill, if it procs during an upgrade action, makes it free.
but it's not mentioned in the wiki
Yeah, that's me. Happened at least 3 times in my new world, last time today when I upgraded Crystal Battleaxe from 3 to 4 quality. Saved the mats (45 Silver 15 Ancient wood).
i'm feeling like this is intended. crafting should have a chance to do something on upgrade, and this makes the most sense
moder is a cool boss-fight, except for when she lands she kinda loses half her brain-cells when it comes to melee attacks...
Hey guys : ) sooo i havent played this game in about a year or so, and i wanna see if anyone wants to join me on my new worldm
I'm starting to feel like that too. Duplicate feels odd especially when playing solo, would be much better if there was a chance to craft better tier item.
https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 There you could look out.
Yeah that's how the skill should be in the first place not a bonus troll cape
got a free blackmetal delivery service next to my base 😄 #screenshots message
and it just happened again got another free upgrade lol
nice!
i've only upgraded like 3 or 4 times since the new skills were added. haven't proc'd yet
wait it's giving free upgrades?
that appears to be happening, yes
Huh, interesting 🤔
like if you upgrade from 2 to 3 it goes to 4 ? that has not happened to me yet 😄
got 2 free honey glazed chicken today while taking them out of the oven
wonder what happens if you're upgrading to max level and it procs--does it give you a level about what's actually obtainable? does it work different for those items with levels not (yet) obtainable but already coded (i.e. the last tiers of the flametal armor etc.)?
in a year or so
if the time between mistlands and ashlands is anything to go off
I believe what happens is, when you upgrade there’s a chance the materials are not consumed. As opposed to going up an additional level. I think lol
Fuck it, I'm not too proud to ask, what the heck DOES proc mean?
You're not the only one wondering. I'd guess it's short for process
Proc means to activate, I believe. Like if you proc your farming skill to get an extra crop for example
I think lol
Huh, but why? Thanks, though.
That one I don’t have an answer for haha
no idea, i've mostly heard it spoken out in relation to armor skills in monster hunter
See, now I'm glad I asked.
(good to know how it's spelled)
“You’ve activated my trap card!”
ohhhhh, so it's not giving you an EXTRA level, but a FREE LEVEL
proc means like when phantom assasin randomly daggers you it has the chance to crit
[yugiho gif here]
well that makes so much sense and is very clean and nice
Proc is an abbreviation of "Programmed Random OCcurance."
Aaaaah.
you know, I always kinda wondered that, but it just seemed like such a perfect "onomatopoeia" for some reason to me, I never really questioned it
For real? That sounds kinda made up
proc = "on hit/trigger contingent effect" sure, makes sense to me
Which used to be for truly random things like Crit which has a % chance of happening.
And it later shifted to meaning "on hit effects" even if they happen reliably.
huh, this random google saerch turned up this wiki https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Proc
"Proc was originally short for "spec_proc" (spec_proc is short for "special process"[1]) which is a term used by the original programmer of Circle-MUD, Jeremy Elson."
"Special processes in Circle-MUD are functions that can be assigned to objects, players, and locations in the world such that each time an event occurs, the special process function will be invoked."
so its like a chicken randomizer in Minecraft?
or like Skyrim's road events
Idk what this is.
It's like "You have a 30% chance on-hit to light your enemy on fire."
That's a programmed thing, it is random because it has a 30% chance to occur.
So the "proc" is the fire effect.
And that just morphed into anything that happens on-hit besides damage.
you put a chicken in a box with several pressure plates connected to different redstone lines
the theoretically random movement of the chicken causes it to activate a different pressure plate each time in a unknown order
That poor chicken...
thats just pecking the surface
Pass the sauce
Sauce?
Ur pfp is a cosplayer right? pass the sauce
It is not.
Wait,is not?
It's a far more merciful fate than most minecraft builds using mobs...
Also, again... sauce?
whether this is true or not as etymological history of the term, it definitely is what I understood it to mean
Sauce is internet slang for source
i once made a mooshroom vending machine
I’m too hungry, thought it was asking for sauce for his chicken 😂
by sauce i mean the twitter name, istagram facebook etc
i though it was a cosplayer but you said is not so F
Ok.
But sauce actually means ketchup, mustard, etc.
That's just poor spelling.
...given that this involves shearing them rather than murder, I think this is better than some but not by much. Poor special cows.
no it vended baby mooshroom
It is, and it also became a running joke in several communities and has thus become its own form of slang with jokes *built on top of it.
its call culture, men culture,so we use sauce as sorce or code
I would say that is called a lack of culture if you're choosing to speak improperly 🤷♂️
Well its a weeb culture,im not one, maybe half cause i read mangas but yeah sauce
hey its been a while how is every one doing
I think it just shifted to PRogrammed OCcurrence and they dropped the random aspect of the term.
Or you could just spell properly.
How dare you! but you are not wrong
...."correct" speech is a construct of power. Language is defined by its use.
true
Denoting cultures who do not abide by standardized rules from a more powerful culture as "uncultured", "uncivilized", etc is reinforcing superiority and othering.
Just because it's not the rules you're used to doesn't mean it doesn't have rules, or a system, or logic.
*standardised *uncivilised 😉
I really hate seeing linguistic snobbery.
Wait, dont does that mean that we all lack it? since our original language is uhga buga?(Cave man)
I don't have a response to this that isn't excessively confrontational or snarky so I'm just going to let it drop. I get heated on this topic as someone with a strong interest in linguistics, so I'm sorry if I derailed the chat a bit
Good job, it was merely a joke.
No no:
Issa joke bruh. 👍😉
But in all seriousness I do see your point. For me though, in a multicultural, multilingual server being clear and understandable is key.
i'm somewhere inbetween~
but i'm really happy to see this stance for once, at least in the places i've been exposed to, it's not as common as snobbery
hey i use plenty dumb words
and i don't even use uppercase letters for correct grammar (nor proper punctuation)
anyone know the best place to find thistles?
black forest
They glow, so should be fairly easy to spot.
the only time youl see me use uppercase letters quite a bit is when im typing on mobile lol
I was in the middle of typing "I swear to Odin if this starts with an i..."
And of course... 😂
Which is also fair. I don't mind asking people to use more standard/widespread forms of language in the appropriate spaces or asking about meaning, it just bothers me to see it referred to with stuff like "uncultured" or "objectively incorrect" and things like that. It can be hard to tell how much is actually jokes, and how much is slightly exaggerated sincere belief.
really just censoring half my speech huh
Yes. 😋
Don't forget the really hard to read grey text.
i'm doing my best to hold that back in public, it became such a habit in private
Many words and much of language can be dissected into nonsense very quickly
...you use light mode, right? Am I remembering that correctly? Did discord use the same shade of grey for that formatted text on all themes... that's atrocious....
- asking because the contrast is pretty good on my default dark mode theme
grey text
hmm
im not sure i wanna read that
ive had enough trouble with yellow text on white and blue text with blue-ish backgrounds
-# example text, i only use this for unimportant sentences anyway
internet culture
-# All of your sentences are important 💛
nah, idgaf bout mine.
I used to, blimey that's well remembered, but no, I've since joined the dark side.
My biggest irritation with nonstandard grammar and spelling is that it drives linguistic drift, and make it harder to read in the future. I was reading a book today with quotes from the 1600s and sometimes you have to guess the word because the spellings have drifted that much in 400 years
I rarely see people talk about light mode so it stuck out to me 😅
...well...i want to write a book, its going to be written in proper formatting down to the bone, but outside of that i want to talk however i want to talk and as soon as anyone has an issue with that well....hah...🖕
It's good practice to try to have the background as dark as possible
Non-standard grammar and spelling is the sole reason we cannot simply speak to computers like they do in sci-fi. 🤷♂️
wat
Honestly I think preventing linguistic drift is kind of a lost cause. Putting effort to documentung, preserving, and tracing it feels more productive in the long run...
i just kinda spiralled deeper into getting myself used to darkness...or rather not used to light, simply because i dislike daytime.
I'll agree that you can't stop it, but you can certainly slow it down.
🫤
Speaking of darkness...
Icelandic has apparently drifted so little that modern day speakers can still read 1000 year old texts with no issues
probably an exaggeration, but still
Get in line with everything drifting into mediocrity
what are we actually referring to, me not speaking in perfect grammar or the people that just speak in acronyms and abbreviations
To an extent, for sure. Just not sure the effort/result is always worthwhile. That said, there are definitely skills related to language and reading that have fallen into disrepair... sight-reading theory my beloathed...
What even is sight reading?
nm, found it on a wiki
the music thing right?
i like how two servers im on rtn are discussing this same topic
I love how this is #valheim-chat. We're going to be in trouble soon.
probably because there is more than one person with an incling to linguistics and proper use of grammar 😄
No, the sight reading I refer to is also called "whole word reading". Basically, it used to be that phonics were taught in the US, teaching how to break down words into sounds and piece them together and building them into specific words. Whole word/sight reading taught memorizing words as singular units associated with a broad concept.
Can we at least agree that you can speak however you want as long as you're not declaring one weapon is objectively better/worse than others or that shields are useless or that there is only one way the game should be played?
@vocal rivet I brought it back.
I know what you're referring to.
We are on topic now. 😁
my brain did not get out of bed today, i don't even know what's to be done
Helper not helping
Someone said shields are useless?
witcher, wint of the moon.
Put the body back to bed and hope they merge back together?
Oh you would have had a field day with that conversation.
nah they have higher block armour than one-handed weapons
so the helper is being unhelpful atm
awesome
I think it's fine to break the rules in informal conversation, like here, but the problem comes when people get no exposure to formal writing and they don't even know they are using slang or abbreviations. Like someday some kid will read "sauce" on the internet and not even know it was a ironic misspelling of "source"
I'm not sure resurrecting old drama is much better, to be honest.
oh i meant about the conversation
shields are good because they're not bad.
brain can stay in bed til next week~
this weeks almost over
Which do you think is the better way? Phonetics or sight reading?
maybe extend that vacation antoher week?
Keep brain in skull, not in bed.
Have you lost your mind?
What if skull also in bed?
shush, the week's worth of time i was referring to started like yesterday
so winter is just headless?
well yea when've you last seen a season with a head
guys, does someone knows if is there a way to block monster spawn in a area?
i surrounded an area with a wall and leveled it but there're some monsters still spawning inside the area
Any crafting bench.
better question is, when last did i see a season with a body?
found a great use for the feasts... i put up three of them and I will eat all three then go about recollecting all my lox that have strayed takes one day to do so ... i have a lot... the next day i will putter around the house and do planting and organizing and chickenfeeding and smelterfilling and all of that jazz and the third day i will eat normal food and go out adventuring again for 5 - 7 days in a row..then rinse and repeat 😄
fire places and any crafting bench blocks spawning
campfires, workbenches, torches, stuff like that.
but campfires (and a couple other things you'll get later) are unique in that they aren't attacked on sight by enemies, other things have to be hidden by walls and roofing
From what I know, phonics generally results in better literacy rates + provides students with the tools to adapt to new words more easily. Whole-word loses nuance and limits a reader to understanding words and ideas they've already come across. I recommend looking into it more yourself if you're curious ^^; I have an interest in the topic but I'm not an expert.
also i love that we now can set a table nicely and then sit down to eat like decent folk, not eating standing up and on the go 😄
oh ok! so the best way is just to place a bunch of campfires, workbenches and stuff around the open area?
so the food prep table's whole purpose is making baits
shouldnt it be called bait prep table then?
It's super nice. Now if only my friend did that instead of scattering cooked eggs and honey in the dirt across our base compound...
Interesting. It sounds like phonics is the better way to teach it, but sight reading is the end goal for higher level speed reading. Anyway, the topic police will be after us in a minute
the helper that should be helping isnt helping so... it cant be that bad?
After long enough playing valheim, my reading level increased from 9 to 10
shhhhhhhh it's a peaceful conversationnn~
If you want to learn japanese as a second or third language actually that is what I would recommend doing with the kanji .. just memorize the phonetics with the signs in context and go from there - trying to learn them kanji by heart is pretty useless 😄
see the helper has give his input
I can make it unpeaceful. 😈
His?
....their?
lol...🥶
Loads of flowers in names, very pretty
They told me it was "farming snacks" for me to use while I was planting... dirt eggs....... the things I go thru
i think i'd have added some to mine too if it wasn't too long
Do you have to type it phonetically when using a phone keyboard I wonder? Then you pick the kanji that matches your meaning
Smiffe gave me my flowers 🥰
you are a vvery poor soul having to content with such indecent folk
im sure smiffe could figure something out?
i think this one has space for flowers, but scarlet's doesn't so then we wouldn't match anymore
i think smiffe has given almost everyone here flowers?
the character limit for names is universal
Well, we can't have that.
I mean my base in game looks like a tip, there's mats on the floor everywhere because I can never be bothered to make more storage space, and it keeps slowly getting worse lol
i want like fire, because i'm cool.
I could obliterate it all, but that feels so wasteful lol
not me i am flowerless 😄
well yes but if smiffe wants flowers somewhere he could... replace the spaces with flowers?
sniggers
he could, and i'll change it back~
like this?
Make sure not to deflower those names
guess we arent gaining a antoher flower cult member?
Could be quite sus
i'm there in spirit
lol, deflower
that is sus wording
that'll do 🤩
I can't believe that was for Spring. It's nearly Winter again.
Oh my
God those are obnoxiously large.
its just summer here.... well err spring but damn the heats making it feel like the middle of summer
uff... finally all the japanese learning done for the day... now i can dream up the next base i am going to build in the plains 😄
Should have used
😁
its 35 degrees here and it rained!, it was basically storming but still 35 degrees!
why are fulings also called goblins in the lore, why not just actually call them goblins.
can't put discord emotes in names so unless there's a universal torch character i couldn't
So question, how many skulls and ribcages should I mine out in preparation for a black marble base?
I'm not tweaking right i swear i saw a rune-stone about fader visiting the goblin king or whatever
i like calling them goblins but the fulings are kinda goblins on steroids so...
well... americans are called americans and they are still humans...same thing there i guess?
Eeeh.
what name/title did it use?
all of them
They're referred to as goblins in the internal Id so...
it looks like a goblin, walks like a goblin, cackles like a goblin...
i'd say as many as you can get hold of ... the tissue is much needed anyways 😄
Uhhhhh
"When the King of the Emerald Flame flew south to visit the wizard king of the Fulings..."
im not disagreeing and ill call fulings goblins, but the game calling them actual goblins would mean goblins are on steroids int he valhiem universe
i refuse to be wrong so i refuse to remain in this existence anymore, i travel to another universe.
Back when he had 2 wings I guess.
lol
I already have fully upgraded (as far as I currently can) eitr weave and carapace armor, I know I'll probably need more soft tissue in future too. I've already mined most of it though, just the skulls are left in many places
I could sail and find more mistylands but... eh, I'll wait till these are gone haha
I leave no skull behind. I need my marble building mats.
The skulls are marked on my map so I can come back to them later anyway
You will get some soft tissue in ashlands but nowhere near as much as in mistlands 🙂 so it might be a good idea to go look into another patch of mistlands
i like seeing the whole thing shatter at once, and hoarding resources, so same~
that was what I was doing... finding new Mist as i had emptied out the first patch best i could... i can not say if i missed something but i tried to be searching thourougly 😄 now I am nearly done with the second patch and gonna need a new one soon 😄
i want to stock up best I can before braveing the boiling waters and charred shores
though i basically never build with black marble. very well-done material in terms of texture and tech used (though i hate that its normal map is just auto-generated off of its texture. most of valheim's normal maps are, but marble is one of the more nonsensical examples) but none of the build ideas i have fit it.
I mean I still ain't even done lol, I still need 2 more sealbreaker fragments lol. I need to find more mistlands just for that haha
Swapping between the lowercase i and the uppercase in the same message is even worse than what Winter does 😭😭😭😭
Having a nightmare finding more mines
forcedelete 500 MistArea
No problems finding anything 😉
forgive.. i am not a native speaker ... in my native tongue we would not write the word for "I" with a capital letter ever.
😭😭😭😭
(50 is the max, 500 will just do 50)
Lame.
Smiffe fix it.
Nah I'm not using console commands, besides game gives you ways of finding the mines, I've just been unlucky with spawns in the second patch of mistlands i travelled to to set up a portal for the queen
gets you a heckton of carapace and seeker meat...you'll never run out - just like with entrails in the mountain, you'll never run out.
Oh I already know. Casually sitting on, I don't know, about 15 stacksbof seeker aspic? Lol
Seeker Meat? You mean Coal?
Which reminds me, yggdrassl porridge needs a buff, unless I am missing something
It just seems like such a bad food
yeah it is costly and not as good as the seeker aspic in my opinion... i never bother to make it 😄
Why cant I place tankards using the serving tray 😠
because they are not food 😄 they are empty trinking vessels?
The royal jelly to food conversion ratio, requiring sap to make as well as being worse for stats... yeah, the math ain't mathing
I would collect one full wooden box and any excess goes to smeltering down the free blackmetal I get every day 😄 (taking extra care to capitalize all the I :D)
💛💛💛
just don't hold your breath please, as I might slip back to old habits if I get tired and do not pay enough attention 😄
Stuffed mushroom + seeker aspic is bae
Hey. Us muggles also have bae foods.
why would i want to capitalize all the i's, is that actually proper, that sounds silly..
I play a very weird mix anyways... one eitr, one stam, one health 😄
not all the "i" just all the "I" as in "my person"
I use 2 eitr one stam at the moment, though for the boss I might change stam for hp, and innwarly ashlands I'll probably use hp till km comfortable with the enemies
Reasoning is mostly just cause I have so many salads though lol.
So. Many.
i use two health one stamina always
I am just not comfy with so little healthbar i am not ThreadMenace or Henrik that run around Mistlands with Swamptier food all the time 😄
In english, yes, the pronoun "I" is always meant to be capitalized. Worth noting that historical trends seem to point to this being purely for readability, and only got standardized properly with the advent of the printing press. It has since fallen out of favor in casual use (partly, I suspect, because developments in screens and typefaces have made lowercase 'i' sufficiently readable)
I would honestly just obliterate them and make scorching medleies.
I'm still mistlands, 7/9 sealbreaker fragments right now
never obliterate food 😦
starving fuling children in the plains biomes could have had that you wasteful viking..
Also yes, is a waste to obliterate, those salads make perfectly good material farming dumps
Ah makes sense, gl with the fight
at least I got the sealbreaker... in fact I got two of them by rng favoring me that day 😄
Not really, I killed them all in my quest to vanquish Yagluth.
Moreso people too lazy to hit Shift. 🤷♂️
First patch of midtlands I've found has given me all of the infested mines. Next 2 patches, including where the queen is, there has been none.
Inreally assumed I'd have built it by now
i mean if it is annoying people just when i type in that certain way i kinda think i want to do it more sometimes 🫢
True laziness only occurs if the cost isn't too high. The readability of the 'i' is why 'laziness' in not hitting shift isn't disincentivized anymore
Also a valid problem with society. 😁
i have never been bothered by any manner of speaking that someone chooses except for those who make walls of texts
I'm out the moment someone begins a sentence with "bro"
That's silly of you
I type everything fast so frequently there's typos, and what my phone tries to autocorrect is really funny sometimes. Lol
That's silly of them.
We are not related.
i typed a perfectly harmless message and got timed out???? hu??? i do not understand...there was no boad word in there what so ever?
Why would you stress over something so....whats the word, minor works.
write someone off instantly lol...that sounds actually annoying to be that bothered by it all the time...i feel bad for u 😦
Also the way I see it, if the name used isn't an insult. I don't care. Call me bro, sis, whatever, don't bother me lol
My autocorrect got so bad I had to manually disable it or it would just. Completely eradicate meaning in my messages. I now have to be much more precise with my fat thumbs. (I still miss things like 'buily' instead of 'built' when sometimes, though...)
Don't.
bro thats epic
🧡
❤️
i just watched an old video where someone referred to plains gear as late-game 👴
I mean it used to be! Haha
yeahh technically...
Like even during mistlands update it would have been accurate to call plains "late game prog gear" so
Ashlands-Spoiler - Don't click:
||I recently made the Dyrnwyn-Quest with a friend. Quit nice!
But I'm wondering if we are the only player on this map to get the sword, since the quest is done and the final mob is dead. Does anybody know?||
Probably safe to say that in full release of the game, "late game" officially starts in mistlands
I mean my reasoning is more that everything up to the plains is a very similar routine, for the most part.
After the plains gameplay shakes up significantly in every new biome
Probably, though some people may categorize Deep North and Ashlands as the 'true' lategame, since those two biomes uniquely appear at the far 'poles' of the worldgen.
meadows/blackforest/ocean = early game, swamp/mountains/plains = mid game, mistlands/ashlands/deep north = late game
Yeah that's fair, hence why mistlands is where it "starts" - it's not at the poles but it likewise only spawns right near the edges, though not needing to be quite so close
Would agree with this, everything before swamps really is just an extended tutorial for the most part
There is one per server, yes
the serpents are kinda scary....ah...sometimes...and i think the abyssal razor and serpent scale shield are roughly swamp tier?...but i think they become quite easy to deal with still
Unless you get a duplicate while crafting it you can only get one per map
evooo
I played Valheim before Ashlands or Mistlaids but never made it to plains 😬 , luckily on this playthrough I made it
duplicate? woat? 😄 sounds like exploit 😄
Crafting skill
Well they decided it can be a thing with the crafting skill
that works???? sick
sorry @warm sandal . saying "ich" triggers the auto-mod
Abyssal razor is definitely swamp tier.
I consider serpents to be a major threat until you can build a viking longship. Taking slightly too long to kill one is risky, having to deal with 2 is damn near a death sentence.
That really shouldn't apply to a legendary item but unless they start coding in e exceptions I can't see it changing.
Ngl I don't see the point of chitin other than harpoon
i wish dyrnwyn was a little bit more powerful, had another damage type like spirit maybe
My voyages are always a bit anxiety filled before I have a viking longship, I never really feel safe
The knife is awesome 😄
....razor?..
Knives are actually really good weapons
I mean i don't even care about the overall placement of weapon type, If you're doing a build where you want to use knives then chitin is a treat..
Is it worth it for how rare are the leviathans? I would prefer to farm some mineral
yes
If you find one early in swamp or before it then abso-fu*king-lutly 😄
Being a swamp tier weapon that requires 0 iron means the chitin can be very incredible for those early stages
Whoever had the higher crafting skill, have them craft the Dyrnwyn. There’s a small chance one-time chance you’ll craft two.
can you mine barnacles with an antler pick
yep
They are not rare to the point where it will be hard to find 2 of them to craft the knife and you aren't just looking for leviathans. You are exploring the map, looking for the traders, big swamps, mountains and hunting serpents
You can, though its not ideal lol
unless you get lucky though, dont you kind of have to go out of your way to get the razor before mountains?
