If not you can replace the pavement with cultivated ground again
I'll have to try it out. Thanks!
I dont understand bonemasses power :(
it reduces blunt, slash and pierce damage by 50% before your defense is applied
(doesn't stack with the root harnesk)
it's incredibly strong
Have you found turnips yet?
Nope
You need them for a cauldron upgrade, without that you’ll never be able to make the right food for your point in progression in any of the future biomes.
Turnip seeds?
Mace ftw. I tried a now once took a full in game day to down him lol
they look similar to carrot seeds but aren't nearly as common or visible.
Now. Bow
are they in swamps?>
Yes zy
Swamp is so scary i want the mountains!!
Very hard to see
Mountains will be scarier without good food
It looks so pretty
Mountains have more dangerous enemies
Wolves are over powered
LOL technically mountains are balanced to be harder, but ambience wise the swamp definitely one of the scariest
and dangerous terrain...sometimes at least
you're spot on btw. these other people cant gather that im talking about a group of friends that ive known for 10 years and hang out with in real life. people act like this game is their life smh
EXACTLY and the transition to blackforest to SWAMP IS SO HARD
The best cliffs for knocking enemies off
i got a really nice wolf toss yesterday
plains to mistlands is scarier imo
What food combos do i need for mountains
The feels when you first get smacked with an axe in the swamps and start running for your life
it is, part of the classic Valheim experience
depends how you play really
I’d use sausages, turnip stew and either muchshake or black soup
YES THE DRAUGRS I THOUGHT THEY WERE WEAK
They are weak
You have Iron gear (I presume) now so they should be easier.
draugrs are weak if you have the turrets mod installed
For YOU
Whats that why do i need to mod the game for
Whats the point of modding
its fun especially some of the modpacks like vahalla completely changes the game
You get more bugs
To add content, althought in Vanilla game there are plenty of content especially for new player.
personally i like a few quality of life adjustments like FarmGrid--crops snap to a grid
oh is zy new?
Yes i am pretty new 😭
yeah then dont worry about modding play the game vanilla first for sure
i may be anti-mod (for myself) but i'm also anti-free-placement-farm enough to not disagree with that opinion
it tempts me, but i gotta keep my install folder clean 99% of the time
the first time playing is always the best. going into the mistlands without knowing anything about them was sooooo goood!!!!
lul
theres alot of quality of life stuff you can get with mods. i work a 9-5 i want my gaming experience to be relaxing as can be
abuses of power are fine as long as you've known ppl for like 10 years ..... smh
i work 7 - 4 and i feel very relaxed playing vanilla valheim all by my lonesome self 😄
for my own tastes, valheim as it is (at least most of it) is already QoL heaven, but i can absolutely understand that.
i have more free time than i know what to do with, so yea
to fix the game's incredibly terrible performance in multiplayer and late game
are enchantments a thing in this game?
No
abuse of power? bare in mind ive been the quote on quote victim at times. my mates spawn trolls behind me. its funny! i run off screaming. again dude its a game.
they really should add it
it's not ok either way
and it only takes 1 kid who feels bullied to complain...
I dont work but still i was not able to find a better game that gives me the same feeling that i got when i first played it with my friends
In a later biome you get gems used to craft weapon variants with unique effects, does that count?
what does the effect do?
im 23 dude. im not playing with kids.
i dont play on public servers as well
general point
there are public servers??!!
Yes, players can choose to allow anyone into their worlds if they want to
my point still stands
so do mine
I just bought something called megingjord
nah
condoning it is as bad as doing it
Is it great?
very
Did someone say megingjord
I HAD TO SPEND ALL MY GOLD
It's worth it
+150 carrying capacity is great
900, with megingjord, corpse run and a later boss’ forsaken power
i think you shouldnt take it so seriously. hence why me and my friends have never got offended by it ever, and we all do it to each other. i could probably even send you some of the clips just to prove the point further
Guys, is there a looking for players or server chat section in this server ?
450 in vanilla
Oh yeah i wanted to ask whats corpse run i have it everytime i die
Silly argument lol
oh damn is it higher now?
It grants various buffs to get you out of danger, such as health regeneration
Ouu i see
i'm done replying stop pinging me
i win
#1024264966712340510 I think
sure...
Does the rune stone thing to reveal the bosses applies to all the bossess?
yeah
Each boss has their own
No, it marks the nearest boss of its biome
(There’s multiple spawn points for each boss)
not any more 😉 ||bog witch||
if you think power abuse is fine yes you win
haha bothered
Holy
Seriously? 900!
Yeah i meant the concept like finding the stone
I still can’t test it yet
and victim blaming
Yes, you can find a vegvisir for every boss
Bog witch sounds really cool. I haven't read anything about it yet
let it go now im tired of you
why should i?

lmao
GUYS I ALMOST DIED TO THIS MUDDY STUFF IN PLAINS
me neither, stuck at work 😦
was it tar?
Stay away from plains until you have mountains equipment
IDKK
Oh no oh God god have mercy
you've revealed all ppl need to know about yr character
a tar pit? pretty much the most dangerous part of the biome, best to stay far away from them til you've got some familiarity 😅
IT WAS CHASING ME I ACCIDENTALLY SAILED TO THE PLAINS
I will never go near another tar pit 🙏
lmao
zy having the authentic Valheim experience
But the build pieces…
HAHAHA
i wish i could play for the first time all over again
will this cute looking pet attack me
I use infinite build, I seriously can't be bothered to gather resources for an entire day I'd get bored and quit
lox? XD
whats lox
Everything in plains will kill you very fast, come back with mountains food and equipment
Really mean animals
omg yes! ive been doing that with devcommands in my server. me and my friend cant be bothered with the grinding
Okay
THe wolves are meaner why do they do so much damage
they're trying to hug you, they don't know their own strength
im still yet to tame one
oh trust me, lox are gonna hurt more once they care
Ikr
It's def commands to speed shit up or stop playing for me and anyone who says otherwise is literally ableist 😂😂😭😭(/hj)
U CAN TAME ANIMALS??!!
They have less health than draugr and they’re short
yup, several
I hate lox so much I always go out of my way to kill them with ashlands gear
innit! we made the rule that once we beat a biome we can spawn in any materials from that biome. been loving the game ever since
lololoolololol
Oh that sounds like a good idea! Like I can only grind so much 😩
ESPECIALLY when I've been grinding for weeks for THREE other people who just don't have a lot of time to play
if im at the plains the last thing i wanna do is grind for wood in the meadows and black forest.
i'd say have me on the server to vacuum up resources in my free time but i haven't really had any of that lately
GUYS HOW TO COUNTER THE WOLVES
exactly. theres only so much time i have to game!
Hit them first, you should stagger them in one hit with a swamp weapon
Oof that's complicated tbh
their attacks are fast, gotta be ready for the sound if you wanna parry them, otherwise hitting them as they run up to you works too
The best way to deal with a wolf is to never let them see you in the first place, hope you one-shot with a bow. Second best is with bonemass
bow + distance XD
thERES TOoo many
Jumping backwards and hitting them on the way down always works for me, or you can jump forwards to kill them as fast as possible
Theres so many help
oh yea, bows
i forget because i don't use them
use an atgir heavy attack
lots of knockback plus its got a big AOE
Walk backwards or jump to avoid damage and try your best to take them out one at a time
atgeir my beloved
It said i was being hunted
RUN
No FIGHT
Thinking about fighting wolves makes me want to play more, I love fighting them. Super well designed enemy
oooohh that's unlucky for your first mountain trip
Where
away XD
Kill them all!!!
that's an invasion you can get in mountains or plains (even outside of bases) after bonemass has been slain, pretty mean if you're not used to mountains yet
Im qutting this game
nothing i love more than playing valheim with a couple drinks. perfect evening
WHy they gotta hunt for mw
thats a mood lmao
You can change world modifiers to disable raids or reduce combat difficulty
Where
World select screen
What even is immersive how is that playable
speaking of. theres a great vr mod for valheim. i got chased by a troll and nearly shat myself XD
would recommend lmao
No map and no portals, and fire can burn builds
That is suposed to simulate reality 😄 there are no portals irl, you dont have basically a satelite imaging as a viking and if you keep fire unchecked it can cause something else catch fire
Asatru were you there to prove they didn’t?
How do u cook?
exactly! XD
True
Were you there to prove they did? 😏
😭😭😭
The fire is on a separate line because fire burning builds is enabled
I’ll edit the message
need a mod that changes the queen into the actual queen of england
#mods-discussion <---- that way please
do you play on pc? if so i can hop on with you!
i dont think anyone in their right mind would ever make it XD
So then the seekers would be british people?
yeah XD
LOL
i would never go back to the mistlands
Yes i do and i just got off, its 1 am for me and i have school 😭😭
keep the queens body from ingame but just model queen elizebeths head onto it XD
Why not? Everything there can be jumped over, it’s great!
if you ever want someone to help you out im your girl 🥰
Can we add?
oh, fair. until gjall is like wassup and i die (always happens, brrrr fireball ded ouchies)
Add celestial navigation.
the weather wouldnt need changing. im from england and can confirm everything is grey here 😭
yes dm me!
Okay
Same here
it's a typical afterworld type of weather
How do you find boss altars with no map?
Vegvisirs rotate your camera
i would rather live in the mistlands than england XD ngl
@past hill before you're farther along with better gear so wolves aren't nearly so threatening a good way to deal with wolves, like many enemies in general, is to get up on terrain they cannot reach, a big rock etc., make it if you need to--drop workbench and a wood floor off a tree or anything else off the ground for a platform to shoot from, generally only 'big' enemies (troll, abomination, etc.) can break trees & rocks
(Drag them into a stone golem)
Ooo tysm!!!!! But what if they climb up 😨
Can i add you?
they can't if it's a large/steep enough (lotta the big rocks that generate are), sure you can add me
having better food would help the most i think
What armor do you have, zy, and what level is it?
yeah IIRC the wolf raid specifically only triggers mountains and plains, so really until you're done with swamp ready to go to mountains, probs shouldn't be getting it as should stay out of plains & mountains, but you're right food & armor the most important/first upgrades IMO for survivability
if you have a good hp pool you can withstand a few attacks while you kill them
And health and stamina mead
Pretty tough luck if Wolf raid began that early when you ventured to Mountains the first time
RIGHT--typical Valheim RNG @tacit crystal
just FEELS--know/pretty sure no actual programming--like it KNOWS how to mess with you BEST sometimes
It's strange how that one doesn't require you to have killed a wolf first.
it IS strange
The Troll. Surtlings and Bats one do.
that raid can still be less than comfortable to deal with in the next biome (plains) with all the top armor and food there, don't feel bad at all if it felt overwhelming at 1st mountain trip
oh yeah it's one of the tougher ones, the wolves are a very well designed enemy, soft (for its tier) but comes in fast, hits hard, often in groups, easily sets up chain staggers if you aren't ready and start thinning out the group and keep ahead of its attacks
ME
yes i normally always play games solo tbh
most of my valheim playtime is solo just because it's so hard to get everybody together to play and im insatiable once i get obsessed again so i would say yes, just never hesitate to ask for help if you need it! i loveeee guiding new players so dm me if you wanna 🤍
Can anyone answer a few questions for me please?
- what enemy drops blueberries (something dropped 3 bbs near my greydwarf farm)
- do skelets bubble breaking give xp to caster?
- do skelets doing dmg to buildings give xp?
1, none, they probably dropped from a barrel outside a ruin, 2, yes, 3 no
i guess ill buy it, and sure ill dm u if i need help tyty🫶
2 might be a no, not sure if it's only the caster bubble
(long ago testing memory xD)
Bubble breaking gives xp to the caster and also to the target (if it's another player)
Asking about bubbles around your skeletons
It is yes then.
thanks for clarifying
good to know the old grey matter hasn't completely failed xD
speaking of caster xp, is there any good way to quickly level blood magic? i use summons and shields all the time and it's still such a low level
I level it up with the help of Draugr spawners, calling max skeletts, using bubble every time one breaks and letting skeletts do all the work. Also raising some ground around the spawners so skeletts won't break them.
dig holes around some bow skele's outside a forest crypt, then have them shoot at yours (don't use bow skele's yourself), you can set it up as a kind a of trench
oooo thank you
dumb question but is there any way to control which skeles spawn?
not dumb, salient
nope
Anybody ever tried to rig something up using archer skels & the trollstave?
No unfortunately. @pearl cloak
wait wdym?
Do you have Ashlands stuff?
yeah
Do you need to be near your eitr refinery for it to work? I want to create a build far away from my base for it
why would you have to be near the refinery??
nope 🙂
you can dig a pit and then just cover the top with a metal grate
Works like any other processing station, should produce refined eitr by itself
either letting the skelette's attack or be attacked both work, just depends if you want to be afk the whole time or have something to do (re-bubbling)
Idk used to games like Minecraft where your machines can break if you are far away
I take long breaks from Valheim so I forget how it works
ohh
sorry, i misunderstood the question, i should be quiet
terrain walls, metal build pieces, and black marble all immune to the refined eitr "radiation" damage
You're good~
i need to make a proper housing for my refineries, every time i go to make more i find my chest of mats broken 😂
My current eitr refinery is literally on just a tower of black marble I built, I’m gonna break it and make it into an actual tower
Put mine in a pit
i found surrounding them in a metal cage is optimal, that way you can at least see what's going on still
There are some building pieces that don't take damage from Eitr Refinery: Black marble, Iron and Copper pieces.
The troll summon staff is hostile to everything; including your own skeletons
i wonder if you'd get any XP making em fight each other
If you can rig something where all skel archers can hit it without getting hit, fool around at your base, let the xp flow
I think you can
ohh gotcha
i didn't even think of that as a means of leveling
great idea! i love iron bars
for what reason lol?
Because you never have enough Iron in this game
oh true for sure
and the copper wall pieces are more expensive and grindy
because they look nice
i love using them in my chimneys. for rp reasons: to keep out intruders; and for looks reasons, seeing the smoke come through the bars 🤍
i also use iron cages to protect my portals in the plains
Copper is pretty plentiful when you get into Mistlands. And the Copper wall cost same amount of Copper as Iron cage wall (2x2) cost Iron.
i remember them being more expensive hm, maybe it was changed, and yes you can get copper later but chances are you already have a stockpile of iron
I get pretty much Copper and Iron when I demolish those Black marble bridges and Dvergr towers.
Does anyone know how to make Valheim run at more than 60fps or at least use 100% of my GPU? I have a Ryzen 5 5600x + 16gb RAM +3080ti AND THE GAME RUNS BETWEEN 25 TO 30FPS AND ONLY USES 30% OF THE GPU :,C
not a bad way of farming it but by then i like to have enough iron for my needs and cut down on boating xD
No idea what this is but it is pinned
||Stone Portal|| helps a lot 🙃
now that we have those xD and the slider/s
Xd I just came back from watching that video but it doesn't work I guess it's because it's from 3 years ago lol
guess i'm still kinda stuck on filling a longboat from the swamp
can you play with the new update on a 3rd party server host
If you're able to enable beta mode on it.
Hii
do developers ever listen to community?
yes
Regularly. A lot of the QOL in the new patch is based on community suggestions.
The current ptb is packed with stuff from player suggestions 🙂
is there a command that finds the traders for you?
Find with either Haldor, Hildir or whatever the new one is called.
but its nothing about what 90% of the community compains about: too much fog content in game/general fog, seperate slot for armor, etc, its just minor updates
Minor?! Lol.
what do you mean
And no, 90% of the community don't complain about those things.
90%? hardly, more like few of the same people just repeating the same stuff again and again 🙂
the amount of different posts ive seen on reddit through the years are high
Oh, reddit, ofcourse...
whats wrong with reddit? 8)
Whats right with it would be soooo much faster to list 🙂
People are way more interested in posting complaints than positivity...
you can never advance with something with only positivity m8
I see you did not know about world presets when are directly this, above and beyond. Don't feel too bad for not knowing about them
Of course you know that only a complete fool would pretend you need no positivity.
I dunno, I've enjoyed the ride throughout.
As someone surely inteligent like you must know, a community also has to report what's right with a game
Some of the worst updates in gaming history are the direct result of a community communicating everything they dislike but none of what they DO like about a game
come with an example
Eveolution of Combat, Runescape. The result of trying to fix all the problems with combat while inadvertently changing much of what WAS loved about it.
I'd also venture to say to a lesser extent the combat rework of Minecraft.
Its dangerous to only know what's disliked. Thats only half the picture. Knowing what to change.
A dev must also know what people like: What NOT to change!
yea, but negative feedback weights more than positive
It shouldn't.
Its not that it weights more, but people are usually just louder about it
i see you have no knowledge about development 🤦 negative feedback tends to be more important because it highlights critical issues that need fixing to prevent failures or user dissatisfaction. Addressing these problems drives improvement and innovation, making the product or game better overall. Positive feedback is valuable too, but negative feedback is essential for identifying weaknesses and areas that need immediate attention.
I see you love making assumptions about people you don't know.
easy to make assumption when you think positive feedback weights more than negative
I didn't say it did. Again, you're just making baseless assumptions.
"yea, but negative feedback weights more than positive"
-🌺Derek🌺 — Today at 10:10 PM
It shouldn't.
nope, shouldnt be equal. In game development, negative feedback has a more direct impact on improving the game, which is why it generally carries more weight than positive feedback.
Negative feedback drives fixes and improvements: It points out bugs, imbalances, or frustrating gameplay mechanics that need immediate attention to avoid alienating players or ruining the experience.
Positive feedback confirms what's working: While important, it mainly validates existing strengths, offering less insight into what needs to change for the game to evolve.
Sooo, relying too much on positive feedback can lead to complacency, while negative feedback pushes innovation and improvement. Reading is fundamental, and so is intelligence.
regardless, the game is clearly relatively successful, doing something MOSTLY right by at least many people's estimation
I will have to explore new unexplored swamps to find the witch, right?
Yep 🙂
a lot of valid points, and i did my share of bellyaching like a lot players but i try to be balanced about each issue, weighing both sides
i think negative points stress us out more generally and that may be why they seem to get more attention/seem louder
ye, negative points tend to create more discussions, that again will reach out to more
it's fine as long as they are highlighted, but not whined on too much about imo
Caught my 1st 5-star fish!! Super stoked!
And found the ||bog witch|| what a successful Valheim day, and I just got started!
Niiiice 😄
Time to see what all this new stuff is all about 👀
a
b
how is it going around those parts
More busy than usual cause of the ptb update 😄
“Can’t come in tomorrow, PTB just dropped”
Oh i am seriously considering that 😄
anyone else have this Habibi person add us then block for his "new" server??
Is it out for Xbox rn?
What? The bog witch public test?
Yeah
You can enable it through the Xbox Insider Hub, if it hasn’t changed since I last used xbox.
Oh ok thanks
hey guys, i need to spawn a karve boat, whats the command for that?
All items can be spawned with Spawn.
so "spawn karve 1"?
That'll work.
i got the message "spawn is not valid in the current context"
Do you have devcommands enabled?
when u farm does the timer for it to fully grow continue even if u logged out?
Why not just craft it?
if you are on a personal server then no
if its dedicated and at least 1 person is on, then yes it will keep growing
is there a road map for future updates
Nope. But then there's only Deep North left so not really much point.
ok
just got the game wanna play with someone hmu
do ashlands and mistlands dvergrs drop the same trophy?
How come the sop bubble doesn't protect me from lava? I'll be losing hp from burning but my bubble is still intact
check dm 🙂
Guys how do i get those weapon effects? how do i add them
Yes. Although they shouldn't.
You kill eikthyr, grab a pickaxe, mine copper/tin, do skeleton caves, smelt, craft a bronze axe, cut birch wood, hunt some deer, and make some nails. You're welcome. None of this spawn me a carve nonsense.
Yay, finally got my ||asksvin ||farm running. time to sleep.
hmm, im actually trying to figure out what trophy im missing from my collection, its next to the Valkyrie trophy
or is there nothing under fader trophy?
I think there is a gap between the Marksman and Valkyrie.
ohh ok, interesting place for a gap
is it in LFG chat only servers theres no 1-3 ppl groups pplaying this ? because i cant stand playing games like this with 10++ ppl its just annoying asf and its hard to comunicate over all..
For the sake of other users, current PTB content is under spoiler policy, please feel free to discuss them in the appropiate PTB channels
2 star askvin hunting, 6 nights no luck
if the ashlands has taught me anything, its that i in fact do not need to pick up everything on the ground
there is just too much stuff
we should... not nerf the feather cape jump height. that made it kinda fun
an askvin just killed me through a rock
what is this new update? rog witch?
Optimised Greydwarf Eye.
“Small” update that brings a lot of new content to the game
(Get the public tester role to get access to that channel)
any early game stuff?
Define early
finished first boss and working on progress toward second
aww :(
Well, kind of actually 😅
oooo :D
The biggest content drop here is swamp
Nono
The trader gives you like 20 items that you can use in the new potion brews and to make feasts. Which sounds like it like cake in minecraft. Lay it on a table and eat until it's gone. And the buffs last longer
Optimised Eye.
what am i supposed to do with all these askvin bladders and morgen hearts?
Drink the bladder
do mobs become weaker when you tame them?
a question about wards..
i logged on, to find 1 chest destroyed - base is kinda raidproof - but doors are open.
are there clientside mods that allows players to see what's in chests, and then destroy them even though it's protected?
content of said chest was gold, rubies, amber, pearls, fishing stuff - all is gone besides the amber and pearls. = all the most valuable.
Wards only prevent interaction with certain pieces, not their destruction 🙂
2500 hours into the game... several servers - i guess i'm just lucky this never happened before - i didn't know wards were useless 🙂
With no spoilers for anything, can I just say how amazing you guys are for making this FANTASTIC game?
Seriously, this new update and the ones before it are just wonderful additions to an already amazing game 🥰
Loving every minute I get to play it!
You can add new weapon effects currently only in weapons in Ashlands, although you can craft some special weapons with elemental damage/effects before that.
Noon gjall.
The Bog Witch update is already in game or do I have to do something to have this?
You can join the public test to help find bugs and balance issues, but by default you're still on the ashlands version.
Yh but can I join with my actual world save? Or it does not work like that
You can use old saves, but it's reccomended to make backups first
Go to id:customize to enable the public test channels, it's best to talk about the new content there, and you can submit feedback too
i will need to do this everytime i log out my game and always lose everything that is in my boat
That is a nasty bug
How do i do that?
Is it for all ashlands weapons?
All flametal weapons
Yep, exept staves
Yes, for all the melee weapons and bows you can craft yourself.
Like @rain flare said, gems. But you don't need to worry about that before Ashlands.
Don’t listen to the punchy boy
You use gems to make several OP magic staves - you just can’t upgrade the existing magic sticks
Ah but that isn't adding new weapon effects to existing weapons.
Bruh valheim with vulkan stopped working for me a couple of days ago, still doesnt open. Game crashes everytime. Any fixes?
First, do you use mods? Second, are you on Public Test beta while using mods?
Not using mods or the beta
Yes, you use them for staves, but you dont give them special effects their base form doesent have 😉
me and my friend took on the second boss and it was way more tuff then it needed to be. we got a attacked my a 1 star troll while fighting it
Ive been looking through the guide, didnt see anything that helped really. The first crash occurred while i was just out exploring, straight out of the game, after that i havent been able to open with vulkan
Also had a look at my crash log, i have no idea what to look for there though
When we get buyable DLC's or buyable items in marketplace?
I'd say that is not the intention of the developers so that would mean never.
what's the chance of a wolf head dropping?
10%
Your math isn't mathing.
Each wolf has 10% but it doesn't add up.
Statistically you should have 1 but you could have 10 or 0.
That is a pita.
Don't go trolling ;p
i want to get rid of my troll cape tbh
when you get the wolves event
I can understand that, sail forth and find another mountain.
fill that fridge with doggo bacon
Skewer them I say!
i likes it raw and wiggly
create wolf trap
by placing sheeps and traps
WHat is one of the best food combos to get highest stamina possible or balanced
im so lost about foods
im just curious what is the best combo to get max stamina or health
Did you just start out? Have you beaten any bosses?
The foods keep getting better as you progress
Do you mean in the game or in certain biome?
in game!
i did'
Did you defeat Eikthyr yet?
ofc.
What’s level is your cauldron?
For the most stamina you can get in the game you need Roasted crust pie, Scorching medley and Spicy marmalade all of which are from ashlands, the current latest biome
Have you got turnips yet?
yes
Onions?
oo Tysm for telling, what about health?
Health would be piquant pie
That would be Piquant pie, Mashed meat and Fiery svinstew
finally got one
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18CIv39YFMqIhB8horGHsp2OrTB4e5zcscHPotUR8MbU/ Scarlet's spreadsheet does a great job of food comparisons
looking for a server to play on my friends cant play tonight, we just made it to swamp
every biome has usually a couple foods for health & stamina, and later Eitr (the mana of the game used to cast spells), plus sometimes a few extras (like for example early, once you get honey and boar meat, you can make boar jerky which gives an equal amount of health & stamina), the best foods you don't consume directly from a biome gathered ingredient (like when you first start, all that's available to you, just cooking meat to eat directly and foraging for berries and mushrooms) you take the ingredients to the cauldron and mix them to make better food--for example the deer stew, IIRC the 'best' health you'd have access to with resource available in black forest and before (only) is 1 carrot, 1 cooked deer meat, and 1 blueberry @past hill
TIL of something that seems very obvious in hindsight: find command can help you find your ships in case you forgot where you parked them
wow @azure yacht and now I have SO many boats to find
Re-entering an old world and forgetting where my longship was made me think of "they should definitely add some way to find the ship, something like a find comma- OH WAIT"
I bought a stick a stuck a gem on it
Sounds like a weapon upgrade to me 😂
In all seriousness, yeah dumb dumb Sildar strikes again 🤭
🙃
Lol I hope you put the gem on the not pointy end of the stick.
Weeeeeell, the pointy end has a big spiral on it and spits out prickly vines.
I guess that counts as the pointy end? 😄
it counts as the dangerous end 😄
Keep pointing that towards the enemies.
i see i see
Thanks for all the info@trail pelican
Guys any idea why i cant repair my feather cape? me and my friends are trolling we are everything and i just cant repair it
It's crafted at a galdr table
I see
How much copper should I gather from the Black Forest? I don’t ever really know how much is a good amount
whatever u need to craft
Just mine one deposit for now, and mine another when you need more
if you make only stuff you actually need 1-2 deposits should be enough to the endgame 🙂
Is bronze armor necessary? Would you say?
Troll armor is generally better. The defence difference is very small (6) but it won't slow you down.
i usually go with troll armor, the armor difference is negligable imo and you dont have a movement penalty
But i must say that the bronze armor is quite pretty 🙂
Okay I’ll just make bronze tools for now then. I gotta go through the dungeons though for the cores 😔. Wish me luck
Yeah, I’ve seen it. It looks nice
I'd only consider bronze armor in a large (4+ players) multiplayer group so you don't have to kill so many trolls, it would just take too long to find them all.
if you want bronze armor you need quite a bit, if your only going for some bronze weapons you dont need that much
wellp that was late
Most of the bronze will be used for the essentials, fermenters, cultivator and the bronze axe so you can unlock much better food, bow, portals and allow you to progress through the game
forge > bronze buckler (or axe if you wanna skip using trolls) > bronze axe > cultivator > fermenter (although the PTB changes will add another step in this chain somewhere near the end); cultivator might move up in priority depending upon when you find carrot seeds relative to copper and tin
oh and i forgot the 80 nails for a karve
that's like 66 copper total, according to wiki on default setting average copper vein yields 117 copper ore
Coolest hat in the game though.
pointy hat
Also if you make the copper pickaxe it helps your mining go faster, but I would only do the pickaxe after bronze axe, cultivator and fermenter in that order
bronze armor is a PAIN to make, i prefer fighting trolls
anyone else absolutely dread the bronze age?? 😭
🤷♂️ Bronze age is chill.
Copper mining is dual-purpose.
You get copper, and you stockpile stone for when you start building with that.
Anyone know what the time frame is looking like for the Bog Witch update to make it to the default version?
i've literally never made bronze armor (except that one time i made it for fashion reasons)
Me with iron armor.
I only make bronze armor, never troll haha (except for fashion)
I usually kill trolls since they are not that hard to find, but also 5 bronze is not that hard to mine and smelt
me with iron too since after the first playthrough.
buddy i was playing with made me afraid of bonemass, so i budged and spent some iron on level 1 armor...so not worth it
Amount of trolls available is rng.
In my world they are very scarce on the starting continent.
how many players have you had to make full bronze gear for on your own?
...are they not helping?
I make my armor for me?
unavailable, and we specialize
e.g. one of us is a cook, i take care of crafting and leading to progress
Iron Armor? You mean... Padded Armor? 😛
i do everything basically except for cooking and menial tasks
so can you see why i hate the bronze age now lol
Reason #5467 to not do multiplayer 🙂
bro why? i love it
You literally just used the word "hate" and now you say you love it...
Hmmmmm...
dude
i said i hated the BRONZE AGE
we actually did try to sequence break and make padded armor
that's how i learned about the artisan table....after we had a good stockpile of flax.
i wish you could sequence break for padded 😭
no but seriously ive basically played the game for 3 other people, they are so busy that they can only help with major progression (like the queen fight) and they aren't good at the combat so they prefer to stick around the base and enjoy the things ive built for them... be happier sevrahn
The fuck? Who said I am not happy?
You always need iron. I make the iron armor but also what is most important in any age except bronze is a good shield and it pays to upgrade the shield so you can tank boss hits and 1-3 star mobs attacks
im wondering that too because i said be happier with an -er
hmmm, is changing the world modifiers to up the resource yield an option?
or is that already done and it isn't enough to mitigate the grind?
You always need iron.
The universal truth of Valheim.
yep i had to change world modifiers to make it bearable but now i love it
Also some people may not know this but you can parry the troll attacks with the bronze atgeir
Anyone who has read the blocking sheet knows that 😉
bless flametal for allowing them to make iron(-ish) coloured models without feeling the need to make it cost iron
If you craft the atgeir you can walk into the troll caves and get your armor
You need 71 HP with 0 skill to do the parry.
i never experimented with weapons because i try to get through the bronze age asap so i can suffer in the swamps
oh gosh swamps must be even worse if you're making equipment for a whole group, at least the part where the demand for iron never stops
Dropping to 47 HP at 100 skill.
I usually make the axe and sword and the finewood bow
Axes, my beloved.
And after the slap in the face that was Mistlands Axe, omg... the validation of Berserkir.
i really hope they'll one day balance DoT damage numbers on weapons the way DoT damage numbers on weapons should be balanced.
Berserkir + Ask Set + Ash Cape + HSS foods = 💛
surprisingly, the swamp is easier for me. i do get everyone out there to help out as much as possible and i can set someone up doing coal and smelting to speed things up
even with all 4 of us helping with bronze it takes FOREVER, like mutliple days where they are unavailable so then i end up having to still make all the gear
im praying the devs revisit the bronze age 🥰 not that it's BAD i would just like to see more variety at least
X for Doubt
-# i certainly wouldn't mind the bronze crafting outcome to be more than a third of the metal you put in
although
if anyone could give ideas to make the bronze age better for me im open to them
Well, you already said no to the "don't do 4 people's worth of work by yourself" option so I got nothing.
- i hate carts (FOR COPPPER) it takes forever to run all that distance and my cart flew away once and then my game crashed LMAO
Build your base close to the mining area, that is usually the first thing I do
Shipping speeds things up more than carting.
i ship tin
Also, are you carting back the stone and copper?
copper
not stone, i drop that shit
K. Because I was going to say, just portal the stone and leave a "Copper Chest" behind to take it all at once.
wouldn't it work to mine some copper, cart it downhill to shore, grab some tin there while you're at it and then ship the copper home?
If you build a base inside a black forest that usually goes well since you can easily mine, smelt and come back to the forest for berries and core wood as you need it
Keep stone. Will need en masse for building literally 1 biome later.
Part of why bronze age is fine. Copper mining is dual purpose.
Half right-now purpose and half future-investment purpose.
in the early game i always get SWAMPED by enemies in the black forest hahah so i dont normally make a full base there, just an outpost for repairing if nothing else
Well... more 30/70, but yeah.
infinite build
?
i use "building does not require resources"
So... zero-cost buildings is fine, but zero-cost equipment is where you draw the line?
do you want to help me or judge how i play
You're misinterpreting "attempting to understand" (which is key to providing valid, accurate help) with "judge."
maybe rephrase it in a nicer way then, because that sentence was severely pointed and judging
🙄
ugh
anyways sorry guys
Maybe don't assume the worst in people?
Either way, I'm out.
i will definitely see what i can do, any suggestions to keep the constant line of greydwarves at bay?
Well that took an unexpected turn with the hammer mode building lol
Yeah, kill them, usually works out well you get wood, stone, and grey dwarf eyes
i hate hate hate hate grinding just to build, im always like 10% through a build and run out of resources. i have better ways to use my time
great that's unhelpful
sorta same, but my solution is to just over-over-over-compensate on materials before i even start building
guess ill just figure something out, thank you for the help 🥰
i started saving up stone for hvassfjallr the moment i got the idea for it, which was about the first time i ever killed the elder.
and i only started building it years later
yeah and i just don't enjoy that part of the game
i dont know why people judge the way others play the game they bought lol
infinite building is so fun, i would not have touched 99% of the building options, because for me, resources are for equipment. and for rare resources like black cores, i tally up how many and then collect that many and obliterate them 🤷♀️ resource deficit, basically like resource financing lol
also ^^ i did bump the resource gain to 1.5x to help with grinding for 4 people haha didn't do it until the mistlands though lmaooo
you turn up resource drop modifier (EDIT: oh you said you did lol, well you could try even higher maybe if still too grindy)? you can resources a lot faster that way, and save (for other uses) with the no build costs of course
make a base under the elder spawn
you know what, i go to the bonemass swamp for more resources. is it the same for where the elder spawns? like should i be making a base by the elder and refining ore there?
oh im just saying have your base be under elder spawn is neat since enemies cant reach you there
elder is just particularly useful because it's a wide rectangular indestructible platform you can dig under and use as a sort of 'roof' of sorts
if you build it right
And don't fight Elder on it after...
ik, im just on the fence about building under stuff
it's a great idea though!! might try next time
ah, gotcha
i try to deal with terrain as little as possible 😭 but i really want to try my hand at a basement....... hmmm
Ah, I gotcha.
you can also just use the hoe and stone to raise earth a few clicks then level out a plateau on that level, and no mobs will be able to reach you/your base
or dig a trench around the whole thing
Met some wizards who did that.
i do trenches! love trenches
yeah a small one just out in the world can be an effective combat measure, same idea for bases just expanded area
trench -> fence -> raised ground is perfect, though i normally just stop after the trench because stone requirement BUT i have inf build now so i can experiment!!! omg im so excited
ur better off building a base there and smelting if u know ur gna spend alot of time in that area
i wish there was a trick to get the cart into the karve and not have it sink when ur sailing :(
When you want to cheat the system you pay the price 😄 (i never really tried that so i have no idea how hard it is)
Break the cart, when it has stuff inside it leaves boxes that can be moved in Karve which don't add weight to the Karve
my first base I usually just take over whatever abandoned meadows shack I can find near Black forest
Did not know that.
I use the same character when loading into new worlds.
I'm like an extradimensional invader, showing up in the meadows in flametal gear.
My last starting island didn't give me any crypts, so I popped into a frost cave to get the speedy armor & go somewhere else more quickly
(Only really feasible with 3x resources btw)
i love that
Hard combat though, be careful & use spears, you can handle Ulv's & cultists....to a degree
(ahem #screenshots message)
i've been trying to think of ways to sequence break as early as possible, is there a guide or anything i could look at for that? e.g. getting mountains stuff while you're in the meadows
loved sequence breaking in metroid
this.
Fenring armor only takes wb level 2 to craft
like
starting in the meadows, what would it require to get something from the ashlands and is it worth it
i think that's impossible since you need the boat right?
Need is....hmm
oh?
Your boat doesn't immediately break
HAHAHA yes
sorry got excited
Climb the pillars as best you can
so... build workshops, repair, keep going, build another, repair?
but then voltures...... ughh
Workbenches might be hard to place there
The spires aren't big on flat surfaces
Anyways, assuming you touch down, the only thing you can really use is flaming cores - those are inside the forts
Also Putrid Holes.
how long until the boxes despawns?
They don't
At least if you can handle one possible inhabitant inside.
Really would do this with fenring armor btw
Nip in, grab thing, out
Anyways, cores + grausten = stone portals
OOOOOO sick
thank you 😍
(Don't thank me until you tally how many deaths this is)
i could do this with every biome, what about mistlands? if you wanna brainstorm
tbh.. im not doing it 😂😂
you couldnt pay me!
The problem is the Moder progression block
i wonder: what's the fastest you can get magic?
Zoom in and you are able to see... At least something.
all my homies hate moder for cockblocking
oh yeah, i havent been in there without a wisplight, was too scared (originally played pre-mistlands, then played post-ashlands recently)
how bad IS the visibility? (without wisp ofc)
Without the blast furnace you get no black metal, no eitr refiner, no flamemetal
It is limited but you are able to see clearer when you keep moving, if you stop the mist will block your vision
If you keep your 3rd person zoomed in as much as possible that is
Even the sap extractor takes black metal
definitely seems tough. i guess you could MAYBE get seeker meat to help out for earlier? soft tissue can be found in dvergr outposts but getting refined eitr is definitely not possible without blackmetal as you said!
You are able to craft Black Forge without defeating Moder.
And those weapons that don't require Black Metal or Eitr.
is there a way to get yggdrasil wood and black marble without having blackmetal tools?
Let a seeker soldier loose on a dverger tower
Stonecutter and demolish Black Marble buildings
perfect!
Make a seeker soldier chop the trees
Seeker Soldier can cut Yggdrasil wood
now... black cores 😭
just a suicide run
Tricky, but not restricted
Also some Dvergr ruins stairs are made of Yggdrasil wood
guys you can make a black forge with plains gear LMAO
that is wild, i love this game
If you have the black forge you can make carapace arrows (charred arrows?)
Ooze bombs are great for Infested mines
Down Moder that much faster
NO KIDDING!! might have to try 😭
You're supposed to use plains gear to get it, you need it for anything better.
I did that once and fought Moder with Krom sword
now we just have to figure out what you could viably make with a black forge
that is badass
Has anyone tried to take a catapult to Moder?
Anything that don't require Black metal or Eitr, so Krom, Carapace spear, Arbalest at least
Plus arrows and bolts
suppose that's flamemetal ain't it...
omg i would love to do a crossbow run. arbalest in plains? but the question is: do i want to suffer
i guess with portals it cant be too bad right? unless it breaks and it resets your entire progress
I died 3 times getting my first fenring armor (in the meadows - mountains jump). worth it.
Arbalest was quite fun when raiding Fuling villages, also it is good for hunting Loxen
I saw it late too 😂
I did this.
I killed Yagluth with ember staff and krom
with plains, i kinda dont care. what about mountain? i see ya'll mentioned fenring armor, anything else viable for meadows-mountain?
i know there's tedious ways to get silver but that's probably swamp-mtn
Obsidian isn't minable - but you can find it in crates
gonna look up recipes now
Onion seeds of course
Though without the cauldron upgrades (turnips, carrots, silver), that's not quite as good
Obsidian is 100% mineable, what???
With Iron pick yes, which you can't have yet during Meadows.
bruh I saved my game and restarted the game and it did t save LIKE BRUHHH
Not sure if anyone else answered, but in the past it's been typically about 2 weeks between a public test update and the base game update. That's just an estimate from my own observations.
yea the PTB release means "it's done, we just need y'all to try to break it, so we can fix the most common/likely breakingpoints while slapping a coat of polish on it (last minute balance tweaks based upon feedback, not per se bugfixing), and push it out the door"--i.e. it's MOSTLY done and ready, by the time we the general public even hear about it much less have access to any version of it
my 'vibes' at least
do the devs have in-house playtesters? (i assume yes)
The game developers at Steam have a very strict focus on playtesting during EVERY stage of development, im curious to know how the valheim dev team operates 🤍
I THINK they playtest themselves, maybe they hire some designated inside playetesters
but I've heard in the dev talks them talking about playtesting themselves seemingly
interesting!
Alright, thanks!
Smiffe is QA for sure, unsure of the rest of the team. I doubt they'd all be in the discord server (unless that's deemed necessary)
been trying to develop a game for a while so im very interested in practical examples, especially smaller-scale
The entire team are in Discord, yes.
Good to know! Thanks :)
@pulsar crane why are you trapping necks sir
also i fuckin love skeletons in valheim they are so funny and spooky
can i get a
well... arent they good pets?
Imagine waking up and the first thing u see is a 3x3 room with 3 necks and 2 greydwarfs. Dont worry tho, they can manage thier space with no issues
i want to add the skellies but they will attack the neckes, i might have to move them in a seperate room
and make a museum with every type of mob 😂
You can't
but dogs may bite as well as soon as u take them,, they just need some time to get comfy with the einvironment (stone room)
You can't tame them at all
(stone room) LMAO
you should put a neck trophy in there to make sure they remember who's boss
i wanna make a room with like 20 necks now
and when i come home after a long day in the ashlands killing their evolution creature (askvin) they shake their tail and bite the walls to remind me they love me
i cant imagine the noise 😂
trueeeeeeeeeeeee 😂
yeah every second im in base
im still in the process of breaking the pillar btw, with the ram
that sounds..... not super exciting
yeah... i put the ram up, destroy some walls and then it all falls down. I break the ram (3000 durablity) then go up and the cycles repeats
omg you can make an asksvin skeleton
Yeah I did that too. It took some time but now I have a nice indestructable Ashlands base.
It can be mounted like a saddle or a chair
WHAT
yeah thats so worth it, especially the fact that no enemy can destroy it
thx again for the tip
yup, the askvin skelly doesnt move tho 😭
what kinda nonsense and shenanigans have i been missing out on, i wanna make something completely wild and then act like everything is normal when my friends join
i was spawning runestones with weird names while we were trying to sail to moder and it was priceless, they had no idea what was going on
hahahhahaa 😂
if with ur friends u have separate rooms then u should sneak a neck in everyone's room
also i need to learn innocent and subtle dev commands to mess with them more, any ideas?
i wouldnt know that because i never use the dev commands ):
my gf and i have a big bed and the 2 others have tiny peasant beds on either side hahaha
fair enough 😂 then add a bonemaw trohpy on the wall above the bed
oof
havent killed one yet but that's a great idea
or a sea serpent trophy if u are not in the asslands yet
wait i could put bonemass's stinky ass head over my friend's bed to watch him sleep 😂
trueee, ahhaha,, but u would have to defeat the handsome man again
my gf got so mad when i put it up in the longhouse and it covered the doors too much so she kept picking it up LMAO
im a prankster, im loki fr
😂
i like messing with people subtly to the point that they barely know it. very very harmless stuff
my friend didn't know anything about the mountains and i put a single piece of raw wolf meat in his chest. he was so confused he was like "why is this here" i said "it's a treat"
I put item stand and Troll trophy on friends bed so everytime they slept the Troll head was on their heads place
woooooo
u should make an entire pillar with trolls trophies (also to remind urself of how mercilessly u killed one when u panicked
Not even as a wolf meat skewer? 😋
They wanted to eat you first, anyway.
if u eat the tamed wolves they are even tastier!
fair!
im just eating them back. based.
don't talk to me 😭😭😭 (jk)
😂
nah but i got bored of taming a wolf and just killed it. i have not a patient cell in my body
If you get hunted you can easily gather all the wolf pelt you need without taming any.
Once the Ashlands came and I made some new decorations (like the new beds) on our groups world I put one passed out 'friend' with a tankard between our beds (aka 3 Charred trophies and tankard on item stands)
cute 🥰
Yeah but I'm always completionist and want to have those 2 Star wolves in my base.
Wolves are good for carpet and meats.
i was leading like 3 fuling berserkers into the mountains to split them all up (divide and conquer) and got the "you are being hunted" event. helped a lot lol
i love the mountains 🥰 helps me when i pull too many fulings, looks pretty, werewolves are cute... nothing to complain about hehe
In that moment the rng had good timing.
YES
also full camp pulls 💀 a mistake only made once
You can also lead them to tar pits, Growths will attack anything in Plains.
Eh, once you get Bonemass power and into the Blackmetal weapons you start doing full pulls to speed things up.
i am terrified of growths
my gf doesnt understand aggro and pulling (still kinda new to multiplayer games) and she has gotten us killed once by aggoing a camp full of fulings. just littered with all the good stuff, starred dudes with swords, spear throwers, shamans, starred berserkers
we both ended up dying and she died like 3 times on the way back :(
growths ARE terrifying
i was mounted on a lox, leading a group of tamed wolves for giggles. got too close to a tarpit and barely escaped with my life
Huntsman bow and Fire arrows do wonders against them.
Move sideways instead of in a straight line when facing growths
Then BONK
Interesting way to spell Frost Arrows.
now i like to smash them with demolisher. but that point in time it was crazy. heh
If you can dodge a tar, you can dodge a ball!
They are resistant against Frost and weak against Fire
Resist is half damage iirc.
Fire Arrow is 11 P, 22 Fr for damage
Frost being 26 P, 52 Ft
Resist Pierce and Frost, so both P values get halved.
Fire: 5.5 P, 22 Fr
Frost: 13 P, 26 Ft
Weakness is 1.5x
Fire: 5.5 P, 33 Fr
Frost: 13 P, 26 Ft
33+5.5 = 38.5
13+26 = 39
Frost Arrows win 👀
++"slow" effect that cannot be mathematically accounted for.
however if they COULD, it'd be all upside, obvis
in short, Frost comes in as one of the best damage types all else equal once again
Frost is uncontested the best arrow in the game.
And it's sad that Ashlands did nothing to change that.
Biome 4 arrow still best-in-slot all the way up in Biome 7.
True, Frost arrows are good. Still, by using Fire arrows I save Frost arrows to other targets.
harvesting frost glands is annoying though
charred bones are plentify for arrows/bolts once you're post-Ashlands at least
or carapace
Silver should have the inverse damage spread and be more like Frost tbh.
Frost being 26 Pierce with 52 Frost is part of what makes it great.
Silver, which should specialize against undead and such, is 52 Pierce, 20 Spirit...
Like... why? Why is not the other way around?
Flip it to 20 P, 52 Spirit and now Silver Arrows are worth making.
sadly, kills me to betray frost, to admit this is the truth
Frost would still be overall king.
But Silver would have an actual place in the heirarchy.
Silver arrows are quite good in Ashlands, that change would make them even better.
Problems with elemental arrows is the elemental damage doesn't stack so you waste a lot of damage, it gets worst as you increase your bow level. I just stick to any normal arrows and just spam them, much more efficient and easy to make.
Combine them with Spinesnap. Charred are weak against Spirit.
they could be more focused on the specialty tho, though I don't doubt silver arrows are good--I'm allergic to using metal on disposable items like arrows, so I stick with needle (or wood when i'm REALLY being cheap), and it's been more than sufficient
Spirit stacks (thankfully), which is why Silved Sword is BiS vs. Yagluth.
some elemental damage DOES stack tho i thought?
Silver Sword fares well also in Ashlands.
like fire--poison, no, at least not the same
I think fire does to a point?
Fire does stack.
At that point you have Mistwalker though.
True, and Frost is good. But Silver Sword has the chunkiest amount of Spirit damage which makes it pretty good. Also less stamina usage. And it can stagger enemies better because it has more slash damage than Mistwalker.
I am Axes all the way to Mistlands, where I switch to Himminimmmnnmimn Afl.
Then back to Berserkir in Ash
the poison axe is not good in Mistlands?
Poison sucks.
poison bombs are good in infested mines, and that's about it
it's just generally considered an underwhelming damage type i think because it doesn't stack (more poison damage just applies a new DoT, extending duration past what it would otherwise be, but actually then effectively 'wasting' time that would have overlapped for the DoTs, or not getting the full damage you would otherwise if they did stack at least) and also a number of mobs are immune to poison
i guess i used a bunch of bile bombs when i killed the queen
and the only reason the bombs so good is because it's an AoE
and one you can throw to trigger at range
And you're only using the bombs once per poison duration
yeah. getting mobs behind doors basically
One handed axes are a bit wonky compared to Swords/Clubs too.
??????
hmm
My favorite and main weapon is WONKY?!?!?!?!?!
Cause of the swing speed
mobs at the bottom of a staircase, clusters of mobs, low hp mobs (ticks, broods, deathsquitos, etc.)
They are just a bit slower 😉
If you can time the third hit right though
Yes, and have a bit less range
are axe third hits any stronger inherently than sword third hits?
But do more damage.
I can’t wait to see more staffs in the game. I’m really enjoying my magic playthrough
3rd combo attack is valuable in a lot of places
They do have the 1x 1x 2x damage combo like most other weapons.
Some early game magic would be nice, like some elemental wands.
did some math, for primary attacks at least, literally within 1 point of average DPS
of each other, at least iron tier axe v sword--1 point or less in favor of axe
Makes you wish for a feature where you could just hold down your mouse & it would skip right to that don't it....
Early game magic would just destroy everything in their path. Early game is pretty easy…
so TECHNICALLY, ok, i guess there's an argument to be made axes have a niche/thing they do better than 1h swords which otherwise they're almost identical to other than being slightly worse versions of
Doubt they will add magic any earlier because they'd have to redo the entire food structure to bring Eitr in that early.
@gray sand yeah exxactly
?
Why would we need that? We can use a secondary attack for more damage on most weapons.
lol should probs finished the thought
requires proper timing from start to strike
Too late bro.
Axes do more damage per swing but swords swing slightly faster.
DPS is the same overall, it's just playstyle preference.
3rd combo hold wouldn't require the player to calculate the start of the strike, just the release
Unless you're talking about things axes can kill in 1-2 hits that take swords 3+, in which case, axes win.
Unless unless you're talking about Berserkir, in which case I will hear no opinion other than "AMAZEBALLS"
The early magic items don't need to be that strong tho, and there are lots of ingredients to use in early game too. Some underused like yellow mushrooms or thistle for example.
it's maybe possible, question is how WORTH the effort
I didn't mention strength at all.
I didn't mention it on purpose.
Because it isn't a factor in what I said.
because it definitely would require a total rebalance practically--food, weapons, and quite possibly if not likely armor too
They would have to completely redo the food progression of the game for earlier Eitr.
i guess maybe you could just say "you'll get proper eitr regen buff robes later", but magic food & weapons at least
What if they added actual combos to the game so we didn’t have to time, jump and spin around in order to do it 😂
Forsaken powers are basically early game magic
Potentially in the cards for post-1.0
But actually finishing the game has priority for obv reasons.
Did anyone hear about the feather cape change
Just heard about it rn
If it's PTB we probably don't want to know
What channel is it it says no access
Unless, of course, optimised greydwarf eye.
Go to channels and roles to enable the public test channels
As a magic user, I think it would be really cool if they end up expanding the variety of staffs and other magic things… kind of like Skyrim 😂
Ohk
It is PTB and it's people complaining because people are people 🤷♂️
Wait why are people complaining if its PTB
So it can potentially be changed for the full release
That’s why they do ptb
have you met people?
Please don't... nerfing overpowered things is GOOD...
The nerf would be ok but ||hare trophies are too rare||
feather cale is useless after mistlands anyway
No it isn’t the jump boost is perfect for Ashland’s taller enemies and hitboxes
feather cape is still amazing in ashlands.
Remove the potion from the game entirely.
Still nerf the cape.
I am perfectly happy. Because nerfing OVERPOWERED things is GOOD.
Ashen cape is just better if youre not mage or something ig
apparently you can just use a fire resist mead to offset the fire vulnerability drawback. i see no issues with this from a game design standpoint
i love my feather cape don't touch it lol
It’s not overpowered though
🤦♂️
i made the switch to the asksvin cape myself, the run speed is awesome
I'm guessing you never build anything larger than 6m high.
The jump height actually got me killed a couple times in my own house because i kept jumping too high and catching fire on my hanging braizee
Oh but it is 😄 it was called "the best item" even before it got buffed with ashlands and after that it was basically the only cape you would seriously consider (tho i did use the ashen cape) 🙂
dverger lanterns again shown to be best light sources lol
Theyre too dim ngl
idk, i dont see how the feather cape is OP. idc about the extra jump height tbf, though i love jumping over gates lol
Dverger Circlet on Item Stand says hi.
Actually, all in favour for dvergr lantern buff?
yeah, i admit i haven't gone and tried the circlets like that
Nay.
Making other capes more viable would’ve made everyone happy instead of doing whatever the feather cape nerf has done to the players.
We need more dvergr lantern love
Why?
Harder to farm, but Surtling Trophy on Item Stand is an old classic.
Too dim
They're infinite
yeah, i did the surtling trophy on stand, but it's too dim
Dragon Egg
buffs are almost always better than nerfs. everyone gains something instead of like "fuck whoever liked this shit i guess"
yeah but
too much in one room is not pleasent to look at
1000% agree
Hard disagree.
I guess, but there is still nothing wrong with nerfing it a bit 🙂
Not everyone likes being too overpowered
logical fallacy: slippery slope. assumes that things will keep getting buffed and buffed and bufffed until you're overpowered. you still have to balance things obviously
nerfs are a part of balancing but i just think if we're losing something we should gain something. ideally, but it doesn't always work that way
if i accidentally made a sword that could one-shot every boss, i would nerf it. makes sense right. but what if i nerf it too much to where it does 0 damage? lets buff it. oh but it's slightly too strong, let's nerf it again... or we can just add a NEW thing not just pure damage to mess with! like lightning, or... bloodgem variants 🥰
What you lose: Overpoweredness
What you gain: Balance
😉
Similarly, if we gain something we should live something.
It goes both ways
do you know what exactly needs balancing? Difficulty modes, they just make every enemy a sponge and make every one your weapons a stick, its challenging yes but just not fun
This is a game that benefits from having trade-offs for certain things
I'd prefer if valheim went with the dark souls kind of difficulty settings
Combat in valheim is barely a tenth of DS combat as to benefit from similar changes
and the thing about playing how you want is: if you don't like how strong something is, use self-restrictions. overpowered items only become an issue in select situations, mainly when it's the ONLY viable option (the skyrim stealth archer) (or, at least, so strong that it's like a blackhole; everyone becomes skyrim stealth archer eventually 😂)
The only thing I would change in difficulty settings is split that slider into 2 sliders.
Slider A is the damage/health slider.
Slider B is the "chance for starred enemies" slider.
Because sometimes you're fine with the normal combat damages, but just having more starred stuff would make the game have the challenge you want without needing to change all enemies.
i like the more starred enemies idea because theres actually more risk and reward, unlike normal difficulty settings where its just all risk no reward
But the feather cape was exactly like the blackhole you are talking about 🙂 It was so good EVERYONE was using it
Self-restrictions can only reach so far. And sometimes the game is pretty much balanced around using the features.
Imagine self-restricting yourself into not using magic and then you reach ashlands...
what issue does it cause that everyone is using the feather cape? i can think of "developer intentions", hence the fire debuff. is there anything else?
Self-restrictions can only reach so far.
i did mention this. hence the skyrim stealth archer black hole argument
I do my best to have good ideas.
You can do this via console commands, but I wish it was slider-able.
like why did they remove the jump height to begin with? to make flametal mining harder?
That all other capes (even later ones) are being overshadowed, dont get me wrong, i would would not mind at all if the strongest version of the feather cape stayed, but i really dont see any problem with it being nerfed a little bit 🙂
i wish harder difficulty modes changed boss attack patterns like terraria, and maybe add more loot to the boss than just progression item
you can still jump up just fine 🤷♂️
gotcha! that's a completely fair argument. dont worry, just trying to understand the sides. not arguing because im butthurt or anything yk? haha
gotta think
Idea: when you upgrade feather cape in the deep north biome, you get the featherer cape and you get the pre nerf feather cape, thats it
Of course 😄 thats what discussions are for after all
Try to post it in suggestions 🙂 maybe there will be something like that 🙂
||It was moved to a mead, which wouldn’t be a problem if it didn’t require the hare trophy with a 5% drop rate.||
imo im completely fine with the feather cape being made not viable for the ashlands (even the deep north when it comes) if that's what the devs intend. the fire debuff is obvious, it's explained very well (so long as you read and pay attention): "this thing makes me weak to fire? weird. oh, this entire biome is literally on fire. i probably shouldnt use the feather cape. i wonder if there's a better one?"
The problem, then, is: there is no better one yet. not really, at least. and that's a difficult spot to be put into. you could add more special capes, but that would cause bloat. you could buff the other capes, but with what?? i can see why the devs went to nerfing it and made a potion to get the jump height back
the only thing i would worry about it making the feather cape weaker for the mistlands, because i think it's honestly perfect for there
I prefer capes being viable in later biomes, as alternative options instead of objectively worse old items.
There’s a couple of decent capes, yeah? Asksvin and Flametal capes are solid
i personally use the asksvin cape and havent gone back to the feather cape, but it seems some players are just unhappy that the feather cape is so viable
Were there horses in norse myth
yes, the most famous is probably Sleipnir, 8-legged horse, son of Loki that Odin rode on
what's a horse
What if they added a cape that gives you a split buff depending on the day/night cycle? Perhaps a speed/jump/eitr buff during the day and at night made you become invisible or something? Some Harry Potter stuff xD
Like in terraria
yeah and that's another issue. some people are saying it's not that bad. you just need 1 ||hare trophy|| for 6 mead, right? so it's not awful. why do you need a reserve of ||jump potions||?
Counter point: It seems easier to buff existing capes rather than create new ones that will inevitably be compared to old ones.
Asksvin and ashen capes needed several patches to compete with feather
i like the idea! as fahim said, terraria does that :)
The problem is the drop rate. I don’t want to spend too much time farming hares to keep the decent jump height I’m used to.
i haven't touched flametal stuff, what's the current state of the ashen cape?
