Wonder what kind of gear makes sense for an archer mistlands build. Single eitr food for staff of protection perhaps, and then resistances don't really matter so fenris gear for speed? Then 2 stamina foods

or if its better to just use magic at that point

The bubble takes damage when blocking with a shield, so don’t equip one to keep your movespeed up. If you want to fight everything at range, magic will be much better.

So dodge/avoid hits rather than blocking them

Yes, although since you can’t get staggered with the bubble, you can parry attacks stronger than what a melee build can block. It will leave you vunerable as your shield will likely break, but in the right situation the 2x damage can be very helpful.

Also if you haven’t noticed already, jumping allows you to keep full movement while attacking which is extra useful with melee and magic, since archery already has good movespeed.

I recently realised that Ctrl-F3 is not just a good way to capture a UI-free screenshot, but also lets you make use of idle mode (press Esc) at the same time to capture the moment. Any thoughts on eitr-weave vs fenris for a mage? Going by the assumption magic is better than bow/crossbow for ranged damage, but then its run speed vs etir regen speed

Each eitr-weave would be -5% speed/+40% regen on body/legs, or -3% speed/+20% regen for the hat.

Just checked the base regen formula again, more doesn't increase your regen speed, base regen is just between 4 and 5 with that last 1 made up of the % bar you have. So fairly small really.

How does eitr regen stack, if rested is also +100% and the base is 4-5, does eitr-weave + rested (100% + 100%) result in 12-15 regen or 16-20 regen

It’s actually pretty easy. Get two of them in nearby pits. Tame them both. Connect the pits and breed them there. And then take two eggs back to your main base.

I made a new base with pretty big walls and I've double checked the workbench ranges and there's no holes in it like at all but creatures keep somehow spawning in the walls of my base

I thought it was the water that bordered my base for a little bit but I had that covered by workbenches as well

I used workbenches cause I can see the range of them, if standing torches have the same range I might replace them

and are you sure it covers all the floors of your base? the spawnproofing zone is a sphere, not a column so you have to take height into consideration as well

You start by creating a character, then create yourself a world and when that's done check if you want to adjust any of the world modifiers.

If you've never played any kind of survival sandbox game, I suggest you make things a bit easier by increasing the loot modifier to "x2", make the combat a bit easier and perhaps allow to transport metals through portals.
You can always increase difficulty once you get the hang of things.

After you enter the world, look around, more around and when you hoover over things and see a description, either read what's popping up or pick it up.

Every time you pick something up a recipe may show up. Look at it and you will know how much you will need for something.
Also keep an eye out of a big - and occasionally annoying - raven that's giving you hints. Some large rune stones found in the land outside your starting area will also provide you with some hints and tips.

In general what you need to do as first steps is collect wood, stone, berries and mushroom to craft weapons and build yourself a shelter.
After that, hunt animals for protection and other weapons and expand from there.

The game is pretty easy in the first areas if you take things slow. Don't rush things as for more "first times" doing things "nice, easy and slow" often works better. 😉

BTW: There's also a Valheim Wiki giving you some information about the items you can craft, the biomes and the monsters you will encounter. It may be a smart thing to look at that as well.

try only holding down left click for like half a second to cast it near to you, that way youre not running out of stam and having them jump out halfway. i have basically 100% success rate now after i figured that out, but the occasional one does just jump away anyway even before i run out of stam.

It's just that I was wondering about exploration, the thing for me about survival games is that more than once it comes to a point where i feel like the exploration becomes bland, boring or it's very horizontal based.
Since Valheim is based on the Viking mythos I was wondering if the game has any verticality to it or if there are plans to enable the player to explore not only caves or small dungeons but also underground areas where we can find resources etc.

there are dungeons you need to find to harvest specific resources

there isn't a concept of an "underground area" outside of caves/crypts/chambers/etc

There aren't any plans for underground areas outside of the dungeon-like caves we have now because the game uses heightmap terrain, which means multiple terrain surfaces cannot exist on top of each other. Changing this would mean remaking terrain code from scratch, which just isn't worth it.

aside from the look & feel of "underground", probably doesn't add anything. And frost caves/burial chambers/swamp crypts/infested mines cover that aspect pretty well imo

The mead lasts for 5 mins, and you get 6 from 10 sap. So extractors full at 50 gives 30 mead or 150 mins. It takes about an hour (66min) for a completely empty root to regenerate enough to fill an extractor.

Of course I am not going to be drinking meads back to back all the time, and won't be grabbing extractors immediately as they are full

Equipment has durability but can be repaired for free. Crafting stations are upgraded by building improvement pieces around them, such as a chopping block for the workbench, allowing for new items to be crafted. Crafted equipment can be upgraded for increased stats and durability.

It's not a super deep crafting system like many games, there aren't a ton of branches you can go down or anything. But it's adequate. i /think/ the star chance for boars is just the normal random. 10% are 1star, and then 10% of those can be 2star

though if you can find boar runestone, i believe the chance may be higher? not sure, but that's where i found my last 2 star boar. Be aware that tamed boars from runestone want to run back there at all costs. best to tame and breed there, and then take a descendant back to your base

Going by my pattern so far, The Queen will probably be super difficult for me. Every other boss has been really hard for me the first time.

Eikthyr, more-less there to tutorilize boss fights. No trouble.
Elder, gave me immense trouble even with the best armor I could have at that point in progression but I suppose I could chalk it up to inexperiance at the game.
Bonemass, Super easy. Joker went down in one attempt no deaths.
Moder, VASTLY more difficult than it should have been! Died so much...
Yagluth, Went down like a chump in pretty much 1 attempt.

I usually collect enough flint for workshop upgrades and T3 flint spear and usually craft fire arrows, you can find plentiful of flint arrows in Black Forest.

I did make all the bronze gear when i was at 100h playing the game but gave up on that... just going bronze axe, mace and buckler now...and run with the troll gear till i get root stuff

shooting trolls before i get good enough armor to tank a hit takes quite some flint and or fire arrows 😄

I stopped crafting Crude bow long time ago because it is so inaccurate.. Flint spear is top tier for hunting deer in Meadows and early Black Forest against Greydwarves and Trolls.

Nighttime creatures like starred wolves must be initially fed during the night. If it is day time, the player must trap the wolf and wait nearby to prevent it from despawning. It will not eat until night.

I have a small 6m x 10m chicken hut and I leave a stack of seeds there for 3-4 hens, after some time I gather 16-20 chicken meat and repeat the process.

moving into the black forest isnt a great idea as a starter you should stay in the meadows

what i do is make a cart and then make little itty bitty huts with workbenches trough the way to the darkforest to repair my pickaxes and my cart

and you also know the route better so you cant loose your cart in a place you dont know

The recipe is unlocked upon discovery of Bronze nails. It is crafted with the Hammer under the Misc. tab using 20 Wood and 10 Bronze nails, and must be in range of a Workbench.

You can’t experience the first time playing a game twice (obviously), so the best option imo is replayability
Infinite content is just too demanding and will eventually reduce in size/quality with time (apart from mods) so it’s not really worth it, especially for a small studio

If you trap a stone golem in a hole, you can prevent more from spawning sometimes

I don't know if there is a tactic but in general avoid getting hit by the frost breath attacks (run or block, probably mostly run). Bow moder when it's flying, if it lands you can melee or keep using the bow

spend way too much time taming wolves. spend way too much time getting them up the mountain. then realize you need more, so spend way too much time breeding more at the altar. Then have the wolves kill Moder. Success!

(obsidian arrows are the best mountain tier arrows against her. needle of course beats them, poison only beats them if you're unable to shoot more arrows before the poison is done ticking, otherwise obsidian and needle both beat them as well.
fire may sound good because she's weak (x1.5) to fire damage, but 22 fire x 1.5 + 11 pierce is still just 44, weaker than obsidian)

strongly recommend trying to get at least 1 star wolves. i spent three nights searching, and settled on taming a 1 star

I will not even try getting two stars, already gave up starred boars when i found a two star one, brought it to base only for it to flee because of a fireplace 🫠

having 2 star boars breeding was great. it helped feed my wolves easier 🙂

my viking has a tower with boars/wolves/asksvins breeding. 2 chicken egg towers, a chicken breeder/killer, and a broken lox breeder that served it's role for a while

Huntsman has lower stamina usage and lower aggro range (you can shoot enemies without getting the attention of the ones nearby them), apart from that the Draugr Fang is superior in every aspect i believe
