I have faught and seen more greylings than boar or deer this is bs
Also a miner issue
Is frost or lightning better for Ashlands?
Go figure
Gosh if you ever want an... interesting fight, lure Moder down to the medows. The destruction left on her wake is pretty awesome. She will just demolish the battlefield!
Bone mass has been defeated
howdy
How does one get the askvin statue
The mountain is a struggle iv died like 20 times within a hour and made no progress
What’s killing you in the mountains?
Also- what weapon should I be using when I first start mistlands? I have access to everything up until then
Everything the cold but mostly drakes
- Make cold resist mead before you go
- Snipe the drakes before they agro on you. Makes it much easier
Craft a wolf cape or wolf chest armor asap for the cold resist
Largely up to preference, but ones like the frostner or mistwalker are decent since the primary enemies there don't resist frost damage like they do with physical damage types (and the slowness helps a ton in breaking up crowds and getting enemies off of you).
I play mostly with my wife. She backs me up with frostner and I switch from sword/ shield and BM atgier as the situation demands. I’ve got my eye on a Krom at the first opportunity
I think I recall reading that porcupine works well there? I can’t quite remember. Aren’t they weak to pierce ?
Ticks are, but seekers and seeker soldiers resist pierce, blunt, and slash damage.
nope
besides the usually recommended frostner, i've seen someone say they prefered the black metal sword as according to them, the frostner's knockback was making it worse than the blackmetal sword, even with the physical resistance
they probably had sword skill high if I had to guess
what's the deal with the lightning proc of|| thundering berserkir|| axes? the wiki says the lightning does 10 damage but i'm doing exactly 75 or 150 damage to randoms nearby (one shottign the draugirs etc. that I'm leveling up axes on in the swamp)
To be fair the frostner is largely to get enemies off of you and create some space, not to stay engaged in close combat, so being better or worse all depends on what you want out of the fight.
Yeah I don’t really care for frostner
from what I understand, people recommend the frostner because the frost damage should allow it to kill the seekers quicker
but yeah, outside of mistlands that would make sense
i hate how good frostner is before ashlands
I hate how maces lose the blunt damage identity after iron 😂
yeadh
That would be the chain lightning effect you're seeing, which has its own damage values separate from what you see on the weapon's stats.
ohhhh I thought the 10 lightning was the chain lightning damage
and the 150 must have been a sneak attack
crystal battleaxe best spear
is there any reason at all to keep rotten meat?
maybe for a futuer potion?
A potion with rotten meat? Feeling sick applied for 10 minutes?
So I am quite surprised just how much the root harness slaps in the plains! Them tips videos don't lie. Now one thing not greatly communicated is how much of a problem it makes shamans... but if I had to pick my poison I'd rather be resistant to the bugs and spear dudes since there's a lot more of them.
Best way to deal with 1 star soldiers in mist lands? I ran into one before I can build any ML gear and he’s acting really not cool
Run away.
employ some blue friends 🙂
Their abdomen is weak to most damage
in the amount of time ive spent exploring, ive never come across a 1 star soldier... parrying is a good way to get in some decent damage when you get good at it
It might be too strong to parry with plains equipment.
The first enemy I found in mistlands was a 2-star seeker soldier
now idk about a 2 star, but a 1 star shouldnt do a whole lot of damage long as you have Bonemass activated...
Bonemass won't affect what you can block
mm true
only thing i can really think of is parrying and using Frostner for soldiers...
carapace shield is decent for blocking.
yup, but it prevents the oneshot on failure xd
or even the serpent shield would be good bcuz of durability and if you have your blocking stat up pretty decently, should be able to mitigate that stam loss on perfect block or reg block
Seeker soldiers don't have pierce
afaik bonemass does pierce, slash, and bludgeon?
And the serpent shield is a tower shield so 'perfect block' won't do anything
and serpents shield is like 2 tiers lower than your current stuff
black metal tower would be vastly better
mm good point...
yeah, serpent shield is good for pierce dmg, which soldiers dont do
should have access to the carapace shield once in ML
Yes, but only after going through a few mines and killing some dvergrs
not until you have black forge
i think i use padded gear when im in mistlands up until i get the proper stuff for carapace. but like you said thats not until a few mines. and i go for the petrified skulls for soft tissue since it houses so much
anyone know when the next sale for valheim will be?
nope
I want a mod that turns Thundering Bersirkir axes' lightning soudn effect into rumbling thunder, and the chain lightning sound effect into the Fetch lightning sound effect from the old Myth games like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzWbwAL6lms&t=488s (or some other harsh lightning strike effect)
I might make 1 or 2 more sets of these axes due to their piss poor durability 😦
That way ----> #mods-discussion my friend 🙂
whens valheim full release
we have no idea, i would go so far that even devs dont really have an idea
first soldier I encountered was also a 2 star lol. I didn't have a good way to get away from it, so I dragged it up a mountain nearby and it was killed by drakes lol
woo finally got a jade stone and crafted staff of wilds
sheesh. rolling in bloodstone and iolite now
I'll take some iolite off your hands. 😛
You know, Fulings are pretty cool, despite how they can fuck up your day if not prepared, I can't stay mad at em. They just trying to live their best goblin life.
And they have a very cheery disposition.
the only thing i hate, is when they kill me and then laugh in my face! like ok man calm down i get it
I have the worst moder location ever
Completely surrounded by mistlands
Died once trying to run through, 2nd time i made it tho
lure seekers in to help you with the fight (:
Lmao
sadly all enemies are friendly to bosses
they will tag team you
damn, unfortunate
I've had that experience with a couple starred fulings and the elder 😂
I actually wasted like 3 hours trying to go around the mistlands, it extended like over 1km north from the moder altar
the idea of a lonely snow peak with a boss altar surrounded by mist sounds cool to me 😂 . If it's really that bad for you, there are multiple boss altars for all bosses
Yea i thought about finding a new location but decided to just go for this one
Got some mistland materials with the help of dvergrs too
I wonder if dvegers will attack bosses, since they aren't exactly enemies but I doubt anything but tamed animals would help the player
yea i mean you cant really lure them either
I think at that point I would try to find another location.
Maybe i should have idk
i believe in you
I definitely would have at this point! 🤣
Stand on a ledge he can’t reach you and shoot with arrows.
Who?
Mountain Hildr mini boss
Cultist mini boss, in the mountains
He hits like a truck for a wee guy
I usually just kill him in melee. His claw attacks can be blocked, Breath attack can easily be dodged. Makes his ice AOE the only thing that is difficult to avoid
Having one of the cloaks that give fros res make a big difference
charred warrior
It just doesn’t make sense the warrior bro hits harder than a big bug
Then there is lord reto
2 star morgens also do the same as 2 star charred warrior
Of course, you're not done with him then. His event spawns multiple starred fenrings that each hit hard in addition to Geirhaffa 2.0.
the second putrid hole i went in, i ran in, grabbed the 2 cores that were in there, turn around (im in the very back of the cave at this point) and theres a 2 star morgen
i never ran so fast in my life to get out of a cave
i might try to fight a 2 star morgen out in the open, but in a cave? nah you cant even block it and it moves too much for that tiny area
Looks like only the putrid holes and some 1-time structure spawns can have stars. I haven't seen one yet.
Jade spear can make big enemies like morgens a piece of cake. Just keep throwing and grabbing the spear until they get frozen and then just unload on them from behind. I use Berzerkir axes for that part
you litterally made food out of eyeballs, human guts and blood bags from leeches
is rotten flesh any different?
Yes, it's rotten.
and human guts from a dead viking isnt?
You think there's something wrong with a sickness potion?
what about eyeballs from from dead criminals?
Greydwarf eyes? The tooltip describes them as milky 😋
im saying, the potion made from rotten flesh int neccesarily gonna be bad if you get extremely goof foods from worse items
blind people can have milky eyes
Well it's used in eyescream
Do boars need grass in the enclosement or the berries are enough for them?
just berries, or carrots, turnips, onions, mushrooms
Also does the enemy mobs attack tamed animals? And i mean like they attack before the animals
ya, they'll attack tamed animals and animals from outside their biomes
what are you actually using it for? as a mage build, i'm unimpressed with the magic options
Not even the Dundr? It's a shotgun, what more do you want?
Or you mean iolite for magic?
I need some to upgrade my Storm Fang.
good idea, when i aquire those things ill give it a shot
The Deep North should have a 2h more powerful version of Frostner. They could call it...
😎
Frostfar
If they keep to the pattern there is probably going to be a two handed hammer, so you may be onto something
id kinda like a one-handed one cuz shields
We’d need snowballs as a new throwing weapon (like what ooze and bile bombs are)
i just tried to solo yagluth...and forgot the fire resist...
That can’t have gone well
about as well as you would think
I have a small sliver of plains cut off by a river that I'm going to annex for plains farming. Thinking of naming it maybe Fenrootstand?
Since a combination of the pelts of wolves of whom Fenrir takes the form of and the roots of the abomination were vital in making a stand against the Fulings.
Is three syllables too long for a settlement name? My main base is about 2.5 'Ratslanding'
So called because the folklore goes as such: The messenger Ratatoskr was exploring the branch of the world tree overhead, noticed the 10'th realm below and leapt down to take a look. The shore he touched down on is the place where the settlement was founded. Hence 'Ratslanding' Ratatoskr is highly revered by its residents. His followers come from far and wide too live there,
Do any of you guys make up lore for your world?
I mean, that's up to you. It doesn't really fit with the lore of Valheim, of course, but that doesn't matter.
Ehh the first half of it is feasible. Ratatoskr is a Norse god and I don't think its out of character for him to be curious about a forbidden lost realm and hop down to poke his nose where it doesn't belong. Even the town having existed at one point is not completely far fetched since human villages and kingdoms did, at one point, exist on Valheim.
It being an established 'town' in the time of the player(s) is where its no longer a possibility since post-humans being whiped out it seems only a handful at a time were ever brought to Valheim by Hunin.
Human villages and kingdoms in Valheim?
Smelter.. does it need to be outdoors?
No, but it can't be placed on wood floors and you need to allow the smoke to escape.
allright thanks
As evidenced by the broken shells of villages, the existence of undead and sevral runestones. One that can appear in the swamp talks about how the draugr came to be, that their kingdom rebelled against the gods so they came down and kicked their shit in. And basically they were too salty to die.
`Long ages ago, the world of Valheim was home to a race of proud and noble people. They built great towers that touched the clouds and delved deep into the earth for precious metals. But their pride was their undoing. They challenged the very gods and went to war against the Aesir and the Vanir, destroying themselves completely. Great Odin levelled their cities and Loki consumed their mines in fire. Mighty Thor broke down their towers and Freya sowed their fields with salt tears.
Now they are sunk many hundreds of years deep. No songs sing of their stories, and the earth has claimed their cities. But pride cannot be killed entirely and the warriors who fought in that final battle will not surrender until their bodies are dust and the dust long gone. They return as Draugr, unholy walkers in ancient armour, creatures of rust and despair.
Break them, bury them, let them know they are dead.`
Don't see anything about them being humans.
damn.. the amount of "new item unlocked" popups when picking up ||grainsten|| in ashlands is quite crazy
I got raided by bats, and I left my riding askvin outside, the guy destroyed the askvin barn by accident, then all askvins attacked the bats, destroyed the barn, my mills almost my entire garden, and my chickens too
funniest thing to happen
seems like they went amok
i have not found a single askvin yet
Search more inland. They don't spawn near the coasts usually.
And if you are on a small island instead of a big continent it may be harder to find them.
have they changed the settings for portals? Whenever someone is fighting a boss nobody can use the portal
if you are playing on a community server it could be something whoever runs the server added on
ive had no problems placing portals mid boss fight
Yeah, that's the world boss portal modifier in action, by the sound of things.
Does anyone know how to dodge on Xbox
Press the block button then the jump button
what do we burn in the ancient bowl in the Ashlands skull?
Im assuming youre at the boss spawn? Youd need 3 bells to summon him you get them from fortresses
well my first valkraie fight happend to also be with 3 askvin, 2 warriors, and 2 twitchers
i ended up dying
ashlands death #11
Alright, time for me to test out how good the Mistwalker is against the Ashlands mobs
(Even if it feels like the Storm Star may be more beneficial, and even then I feel like I'll still get my ass kicked if I got back to using melee instead of magic)
A few questions
Do stone golems still level up elemental magic?
Is the thunder shotgun still the way to go to quickly level up elemental magic or has the exp rate for that one been nerfed?
it might be time to start another run of this masterpiece of a game soon
my character is actually ruined, before ashlands i was at 97 run, now im at 43 😦
stop dying
i mean its fine, its my first ashlands experience
gotta learn the hard way
just hurts a little to open my skills
ill fix it all later anyway, lots of training
guys is there a way to setup server side characters
No, the players always own their characters, not the server.
thats a bit sad
Why?
just to prevent people from bringing stuff from other servers
Anyone that might be able to help me? c: I just need to repair my iron gear, but i dont have a forge high enough level 😭
Havent played in a good while and when i used to play it was on my friends server. So now i have good gear - no way to repair it (^:
What kind of help do you need?
You should be able to see the materials you need, to upgrade your forge, in your build menu. Focus on getting your base up to the level of your gear, and making lower level gear as a back up, if you need to.
I just need to repair my stuff
I know the game itself, been playing for quite some time but I need to repair my pickaxe, hatchet etc. and with that i should be able to progress enough to upgrade my own forges etc
That should be within your ability.
🤦
I didnt ask for help to get snappy responses. If you're not gonna help, dont say anything at all.
is2g this is why i dont play with dudes.
You haven't said what you need help with? Just what needs doing.
^
I need help, to repair my gear. I want to hop onto someone elses game, repair my stuff and get out
why does it have to be someone else's game?
Ah. Then sorry, not at my machine right now. You could always make a post in #1024264966712340510? Or just spawn what you need in.
you can make your own workshop in your own world
Yeah, I’d just spawn in what I need at that point.
I'd rather not.
I'm guessing their gear is higher level than their actual progression.
^
I played 99% with my friend, on his world. Then we slowly stopped playing all together and now im high level character with high level gear, in a not so progressed world. Thats the problem
And if I didn’t want to ‘spoil’ my world, then I’d make another world, spawn in stuff there, then go back to my primary world.
I don't roll that way
i'd rather take help of someone, maybe trade stuff etc. than starting to spawn stuff in
It’s functionally exactly the same as going to someone else’s world.
I'm not gonna argue about how and why i do stuff in my game, you do you.
Ok, just trying to help you solve your problem yourself.
thats legit what im doing by asking in here
except you are begging to join others' games
You solution is your solution, dont force it upon me if i say no.
Im not forcing anyone to help me lmao, if you dont want to im not forcing anyone
Wouldn’t you rather not have to rely on someone else?
noone's forcing you to use any particular solution
I dont mind helping out other people, socializing and trading, is that concept so foreign to people?
We’re not forcing you either, just pointing out ways you can solve your problem yourself. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.
I've done this several times, as have other with me, but now most people i knew that play valheim have stopped because of other things in life, other interests etc.
I mean either way forge upgrades you don’t own is coming from somewhere, whether it’s from a friend or spawned it
As stated above, trading stuff with someone is the exact same thing as spawning them yourself because devcommands is very easily accessible.
Difference is that you're skipping steps, but the end result is the same: The things were spawned.
Is it a good idea to make a base on the big flat enclosed open space in front of the stone entry at Queen?
Anybody else having long loading times during sleeping?
I could fit a helms deep style castle in there
Or is it a weird fluke 5 football field flat land generated at this queen entry?
Seems weird. Had you pre-generated that land before it became a Queen spot?
Yes its old land premist
Its also conveniently surrounded by sharp edgy mountains
Thuss the Helms deep effect
And queen is facing it alike the Orcs. Its all raised, no direct access
I'd guess that's why and the generation had to to what it had to do to make sure the area would work.
You are right. Like gen made Sure i can go to the entry lol. Ima go ss it
In terms of practicality for building, is there a reason to use Grausten over Black Marble?
Also, one thing I'm absolutely thankful to the Ashlands spires for, it's the ability to build bridges connecting Ashlands islands
Looks
Ah, alright, then I'll stick with black marble...
...at least, if it weren't for how scarce it is compared to grausten
Wait, do spawners still have a chance to generate inside grausten spires?
I've seen several cases of monuments of torment inside those hexagonal pavillion looking structures.
But if you mean like in the big boulders, then yes, sometimes they spawn inside those.
Oh, I thought that was a bug, I didn't realize that was intentional
Either way, thank goodness for the battering ram to quickly deal with the boulder so I can attack the monument of torment quickly
Also gonna build campfires all over the island because if this biome won't play fair, then neither will I
Also I hope a later update lets us build stacks of charred bone
How do i catch tetra if the lake in the frost caves is frozen?
From what I've found, there are just little pockets of water in the caves that have tetra (which I don't think are necessarily the same as caves that have a frozen lake with the fishing rod and runestone).
I wish the frozen lakes were actual lakes you could do the fishing in. As it is, I've caught more tetra as they jump out from their little pocket than by fishing them.
Lol as if its not hard enough already
For the Ripper, is there a best modification for it or is it best at its base form?
Are wolves supposed to make cubs and serpents show up, ONLY at night time?
yes when you feed tamed wolfs they make cubs, and serpents can spawn during nighttime or during storm
Thanks yeah but after you've tamed them do they make cubs only at night?
nope, whenever
Oh ok. I have my world set on normal but... I had 3 serpents show up during THE DAYTIME
they must have spawned during storm and you left them behind, the ones from storm never despawn compared to night spawns that despawn in the morning
Quick question
Did the Dundr's exp level up rate get nerfed or was it never that good to begin with?
Wiki doesn't mention patch note differences like "this weapon had these changes made to it in so and so version"
If I destroy the dvergr crates around their camp will they agro? Is there anything in there anyway?
they will agro if there is a ward active there, and there is soft tissue in there 🙂
Gotcha
i dont think i saw anything like that in the patchnotes, but you can go and look 🙂
So I'm minding my own business, campfires built around the immediate area, trying to prepare for the preparations for building a bridge connecting Ashlands islands, and next thing I know, The Dead Have Been Summoned
Waaait, nevermind, it was 99% the shamblers
Oh, I checked previous edits of the wiki, and there's never been an edit where it was changed down to 12 x 0.2 exp
Makes me wonder where the claims I saw about Dundr being great for leveling up Elemental Magic even came from
Any tips on finding mines in mistlands?
take a good look at the rock formation above it after you find one, its 4 spires angeled above the enterence iirc, also it should always (or at least extremely often) have the blue lantern in front of the staircase
also if you see a dvergr building that has intact roof and there are seekers on it and around it then look inside, there may be a staircase down and that is also an infested mine
I found a ruin with seekers but there was no stairway down. Only a corpse run lol
Probably just an abandoned dverger outpost
you dont want to throw away tree seeds do you?
Pretty much
Especially if it's an oak tree seed
later in the game they will be useful 🙂
I guess that's possible, I don't know for sure. Because even when I log in and a new day cycle starts they're right there
yes, they dont despawn if they spawned in storm
Huh, i didnt know we got 1.0 already 😄
Anyone got tips for using multiplayer cheats? I'm hosting through G-Portal and want to use console commands to carry progress over from my gamepass character
I'm hosting the server, am an admin, and enabled devcommands, but debugmode isn't working
not working without a mod in multiplayer, you just have to do it in a solo world and then bring that char over etc whatever you want to do
only admincommands will work like ban player and set world modifiers etc
hey who wants to play
i wanna play with like a good sized group, never tried it before
#1024264966712340510 is the place to look, if you use a tag for your area its even easier to find servers / people
does fenris armor counter the harnesk weakness to fire
no because you need to wear all 3 pieces for the fire resistance, so can't wear the root harnesk
No. You only get the fire resistance from full set
sadge
you can get pierce resistance from serpent scale shield, or fire resistance from the barley wine, those are options
Got a mod you recommend?
#mods-discussion I don’t know a lot about those but I do know there is at least one that worked a few weeks ago still unsure of name
in ..../unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local/
I have several unusual files
<mapName>_mapTexCache
<mapName>_heightTexCache
<mapName>_forestMaskTexCache
Not all of my maps have these cache files, just one. The dates on the files dont mean anyhtng to me either. I have very recently installed a heightmap mod, but the file stamps predate that be a few weeks. What generates this type of file? is it https://valheim-map.world/ ?
Please see the above comment. Mod discussion/questions should be asked in the relevant #mods-issues #mods-discussion channels. Post in one channel though (whichever seems the most appropriate)
i dont think its a mod responsible - and its a general question :}
Those are just normal texture cache files generated by the vanilla game.
oh.. ok. Why would it do that for one map out of half a dozen?
after many many many deaths, i have finally completed the ashlands
Morgen gjall.
Now you should use /stats
do you have to be next to a chicken for them to layeggs?
Nope, 2 happy chickens (you need to have fed them) need to be next to each other for one of them to lay an egg.
You need to be in render distance though, so in the general vicinity but you can do other things in the mean time.
yes, within a certain distance same for the boars popping out piggies and all that
as expected its same with surlings farm
whats the cool down for eggs hatches
i believe 2 in game days??? @hollow crag
Did they makes stumps grow back? I have someone on our server who swears leaving stumps will replenish trees
Nope, unless there is a mod installed for that.
Stumps just stay stumps forever till you, a troll or anything else that can break a stump destroys it, you can get trees back by planting seeds.
Yea I’ve died like 50 times this world, 30 of them being ashlands
Mele build ashlands first time was very unforgiving
Just speculating for fun. Deep North means frost giants for me, but will they be friends or foes?
how many hours have you done in Ashlands? I feel like you sped past me, but maybe i haven't played much. I've only done 3 fortress so far, and I'm considering more. How many have you done? Any base building? basically I'm wondering if my pace is slow as hell 🙂
What is the best way to farm stones in game?
Anyone want to join me on my Local server?? My duo has been MIA and i dont want to stop playing
Just finished with the Dragon Boss trying to find the next boss in the Plains as we speak
Mining copper and silver. And when you got enough of that, mine each and every big rock you see. Especially those along the coast, in the Black Forrest and in the mountains yield lots of stones.
make a greydwarf farm
strap on a cart and hit all those rocks in Meadow
greydwarf spawner farm if you're keen to AFK gaming, specially if you find somewhere with multiple spawners close by
If you want to farm it manually, if you have quick access to plains, those stone pillars are the quickest way to get stone
If you want huge quantity of stones, the biome with the greatest quantity of stone per area should be the mountains
Honour mention to copper and silver deposits which allow you to get stone with another goal in mind, like crafting all weapons/armors or weapon/armors for decoration if you are into that
Probably about 20-30 hours, I did 4 fortresses, basically no building (aside from a small place for a safe portal to the area) and yea was a bit rushed, was not planning on doing the boss yesterday but ended up doing it anyway
But overall the ashlands is a bit slower to progress tbh, a lot more fighting than exploring. The cycle seemed to be like 10-15 min of fighting, explore a little more, 10-15 min of fighting, little more exploration etc
is there a finitie number of royal jelly in each valheim world?
i believe it respawns in the mines 🙂
ok, that would be good. thanks
Also you sped past me so I just caught back up (; I’m pretty sure you were in mountains or plains when I finished mistlands. It took me an entire month from beating the queen to even go into the Ashlands because I was making a base completely out of black marble and it’s a pain to farm. I also don’t play this as my main game
ahh, okay. that makes sense then. we are probably roughly the same, just bursting at different times
Yea most likely
do i get all materials back from house that just burnt down?
Burnt down? Left in Ashlands without a shield and the sky stuff got it?
no, poorly placed fireplace
This is an English-only server, bitte
I've never seen structural burning be a mechanic in this game.
I take it you are using a mod that causes stuff to catch fire. In which case ask in #mods-discussion
i play with fire hazard and my house just burnt down, looking at amount of wood that droppped from it seems a bit less from what built took to be created
Considering they seem to mostly have been fighting with the gods in Norse mythology (Odin himself seems to have killed at least one of them) I'd suppose they're enemies
nvm wood just stacked in odd place
That is assuming giants are even in DN
And idk what even they would add, they'd probably just be trolls V2
I’d rather see lightning enemies than frost giants because there’s only one biome left to give yagluth’s power a reason to exist
Are what getting an update?
This is a new world modifier available since the Ashlands update
This is a new world modifier available since the Ashlands update, it is not a mod, its quite dangerous 🙂
Ah, thanks for that. I play pure vanilla and rarely look at the modifiers.
World modifiers are still vanilla.
You are technically correct. The best kind of correct.
I try.
the only mod i actually like and i think should be put into the game somehow (maybe an upgraded cultivator) is the plant crops one, planting crops singularly is kinda annoying
Oh, didn’t know that. Thanks. 🙂
Is there a way to get refined eitr other than from a refinery? Are there any mobs that drop it or can it be found in dungeons or ruins?
To my knowledge, no
Refined? No. That would utterly invalidate the refinery.
There is only the one source for this.
Ok so to craft any of the mistakes gear aside from krom, I need a black forge, a refinery and a galdr table right?
And also a sap extractor
Yep!
A logistical nightmare lol
Lol it’s not too bad- just think of the black forge like the new forge. Sap extractor is just a passive relative collector, and galdr table is magic workshop.
It takes some getting used to, but it’s not bad 🙂
Yeah, the sap extractor will likely be nowhere near anything else so doesn't need to 'fit' anywhere.
I anticipate having to find an entirely different ML biome before any of that is even feasible anyway. I’ve searched much of this current one and only found a single mine
And I’ll have to sail back from my home base with the black metal to make the extractor since I only get to ML via portals right now
When I sail, I usually keep a stockpile of various metals- it’s not a bad idea to make a base with a forge and some other things, even if it’s a temporary base.
Yeah I’ll need to do that for this. I’m just so loss averse I have to make several trips to establish a safe beach head lol
Evening/Morning, y'all!
I would go with at least 3 sap extractors, they need to go on a root, for longer time I recommend only 1 extractor per root. In a perfect world you may find a mistless area of Mistlands with roots, I just found something I have never found before, a mistless area on the shore containing 5 or 6 roots! (so need 15 cores for the other stuff in Mistlands, I recommend getting some extra for "later" as well in terms of black cores)
Again, just my speculation. Lightning infused frost giants. Thunder snow from on high! (for Blobicycake).
Trying to generate as little swamp as possible so whatever the thing is in the next update has spots to spawn XD
fr
y’all got any mountain tips?
Don't freeze to death 😄
well yeah lol i got meads but now what
got a little silver and base
got the cape now actually
@raven shale dont fight stone golems, super slow just run from them. wolfs are really deadly, do not underestimate them
if you get hunted you might just be dead
getting hunted early is kinda unlucky
the wolves are so annoying but if i’m to fight a stone golem like after i have some silver and stuff what should i do is it arrows melee or what
fire arrows seem like they would work but idk
no
Jump on its head and break it with a pickaxe 😎
its resistant to pierce, use a shield and mace and parry it, or use a pickaxe and dodgerole into it and strike
are you serious i had a feeling u would have to use a pickaxe not trying to sound stupid but the pickaxe actually works?
It does have weakness to pickaxe damage
is there weak spots like the headshots and crotch shots for trolls or just wing it
just wing it
appreciate it
ofc
the drakes are more annoying than dangerous, their projectiles are pretty easy to dodge unless you are completely out of stamina
wolfs can stun lock you, so try not to ever be staggered by one
yeah they are like a three shot with huntsman bow and wood arrows and the wolves have stun locked me so many times i personally think swamp is worse tho tbh i almost quit at swamp
yea, if you even see a 2 star i recommend just running if you are not comfortable fighting wolves
they will 1 shot you, and you cant block them
expecialy when ur surrounded they came in my house like 2 hours ago i saved and quit and called it a night lol
oh yeah
the dmg is way increased from swamp
i’m excited for the frost cave tho
You've just gotta... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYdvxBxHX2U
Depends if you are leveling your gear, or rushing. Personally never had an issue in the mountains
Yeah i thought finding silver was gonna be real bad but it’s not to bad
Silver easiest to mine too
i like the flesh rippers tho i did make them
yea mountains wont take long to progress through, get some silver, find some union seeds, kill a few wolves while you are there
If you dig around a silver vein and then just strike the middle, it’ll pop the whole vein for easy collection 🙂
basically done
Nah, the farming is part of the game, feels so good once you get x material back to base, smelted and crafted, then you set out with a new set of gear.
yea stamina really good, can be scary tho not being able to take more than 2 hits before you die
You right i like having to go back to diff bases and camps
fs but i got real good at avoiding getting hit using troll armor for the elder
i usually run 2 stamina 1 health, but if im going to a new biome for first time i run 2 health 1 stamina since idk what enemies are capable of
yeah
I always run 2 health 1 stam, just so that I can block everything in that biome
I got lucky and found a nice seed where there’s a 3 point meet of the plains, meadows and a Black Forest all at one small point. I built a little riverside village with a farm that branches across all 3
i thought the plains was the next biome after swamp went into them boy was i mistaken😂
yea
tasty mead makes up for lack of stam food
most players have that experience
how longs it last?
To make the plains a little easier I recommend killing an abomination in the swamp and making the root chest piece
It’ll vastly decrease the damage from deathsquitos and save you a world of hurt
deathsquito is what i died to
I like the 3 piece Fenris Set, for movement/fire resist in plains
Few seconds
Yeah deathsquitos are hella easy to kill, if you see them first. The problem comes when they see you first 😅
that’s what i’m working on right now but i’m keeping the drake helmet still using it every her and there i love the look of it
the problem comes when you are figthing a hoarde of fuelings, and then get sideswiped by a deathsquito
Nothing worse than sneaking on some lox to tame or raiding a fueling village and a deathquito comes outta nowhere
Sounds like a situational awareness issue 😛
alright can we not spoil it pls ik the lox deathsquito and fuling but i think there was one more someone said
I get tunnel vision 😂
my friend managed to take out a whole camp with iron only tho idk how the hell he did it
Valheim is a game of knowledge, once you know the things, you can do the things alot easier
very carefully
yeah he died
yea i think speedrun is at like 19hours or something no?
holy
Fuelings are squishy..but they hit like trains
i’m at 300 days only in mountain 19 hours is insane
Only thing scary in the whole plains is growths if they slow you 😂
13h53m is the speedrun actually
yea
Yeah I’ve hit around 400 days total across a few servers and I haven’t killed moder myself yet. I spend most of my time just building and farming, I have travelled further afield than the mountains though in my travels
I’m the guy the gets distracted by every single side quest in rpgs 😂
lol i did the same thing with the hildir quests
you beat the sealed tower before mountains?
I’ve only beat the Black Forest dungeon for hildir so far. I keep up and moving my base and just spend days rebuilding
no but i did the all the smouldering tombs and realized i only needed to do one when they were all done😂
oh LMAO
the trophy is real cool
Yeah it makes a great candle 😂
didn’t even think of that
Item stand on a stool beside your bed, slap the trophy on it. Instant bedside lamp
Yup, I usually have braziers hanging over my tables though just for the aesthetic
Surtling trophies also work in a similar way, they just aren’t as fancy
haven’t got one yet imagine they look the same
They’re pretty similar, just not as extravagant as the brenna one
Yeah I kinda just baited her to a narrow corridor and then stood whacking her with the iron sledge
i like the iron sledge but it’s hard to use
Yeah once you gauge its range you can make good use of it. It’s just a stagbreaker on roids 😂
i think the stag breaker is stupid because it’s after eithyer and ur on bronze atp
Yeah it’s mostly because it’s an ape blunt weapon with only one attack, so you have to be wary about it.
Aoe
yeah
so how does cheating work can you take cheating items to other worlds
wym?
like if u spawned in a sword does it save
If your character is holding items and you play that character on another server, held items are transferred with your character. But be wary because a lot of servers don’t allow cheated stuff
how would they know its cheated items
I’m not sure, but most don’t allow cheating in their servers. So if there is any way of them finding out, you’ll likely be removed
Although there are also servers which have cheats enabled for anyone anyway. Kinda like creative servers with no build costs etc.
im not a fan of cheating i dont like how cheated stuff can be transferred to no cheat worlds
ik a friend who would do that too unfortunately
Yeah personally I prefer the sense of achievement after grinding/farming for stuff, rather than just spawning stuff in. But everyone has their own preferred play styles
the only time i ever cheated an item was when it got deleted because of a mod i had used
wdym it's after eikthyr? it doesn't need eikthyr at all
you need bronze axe to mine the fine wood
it doesn't need fine wood?
oh what’s it need then
it's core wood
Yeah stagbreaker you can straight gather materials for it. Core wood from the Black Forest
oh mb
I agree it's kind of stupid tho
You can also get fine wood before eikthyr through various means. Breaking certain items out in the world or via using fallen logs to break the birch trees
it’s good for hordes that’s abt it
I'd say it's main use is cheesing progression and maybe hitting enemies through walls
900 hours in and i have not used the stagbreaker
Yeah when you run burial chambers with a stagbreaker they’re basically free runs
900 hours u beat the game yet?
yea
1400 hours in and technically I haven't beat the game now
how?
since I've not fought against mistlands or ashlands boss
not playing on only 1 server
played a lot before those biomes were a thing
i’ve heard mistlands is crazy
i personally wasnt a big fan of mistlands, but just me (even tho i built a base there)
i didn’t build a base for swamp it’s to complicated
I’ve been around the edge of it but haven’t ventured into it yet. I found a few small mistlands islands with no mist 😂
there is a patter for the mist, you will see when you explore more
I just keep gettin distracted by building. I’ll make a nice little base and then find a new spot or have a new idea…and then the endless days of redesigning and rebuilding begin 😅
is there a way to make it so someone has to create a new character when joining ur workd
yea i feel this, it took me a month from beating the ML boss to going to the ashlands
was building an endgame base
In my play through with friends we made Stagbreaker before beating Eikthyr and I was totally “ooh, I bet we need this for the boss or something”… 🤦🏻♂️
Literally me with moder rn. I beat bonemass, found the tri-section area and rebuilt. Ventured into the mountains and found a 1 star wolf which I managed to trap in a hole and tame, then went straight into the plains after breeding. I completely forgot about fighting moder for a hot minute 😂
spent so long building forgot what biome you were in progression wise LMAO
Literally. I think because I built my base on the edge of a plains biome I was just like…eh, to the plains I go! 😂
I think I have like 3 or 4 stacks of black metal scrap from fuelings so far with no way to even smelt it 😂 I should probably progress more
yea ive beat the game, and still have plans i want to do
i want to make a farmhouse/kitchen in the plains so i can have all my crops and creatures in same area
i want to make a trophy room with all trophies and weapons and armor in them (all maxed out armor as well)
also to take it a bit further i want to catch every fish at each rank for display as well
i still have a lot to do in my world
I have a small trophy cave I built underground so to speak, it branches off from my main house through a tunnel with torches and opens up into a large stone room. Trophies divided by area
I call it my victory hall
nice!
also slowly piling up all the gold i find so i can make a treasure room in my castle
lots of stuff, plenty of time
See I’m yet to go so extravagant as a castle haha, I just keep making a variety of longhouses and fishing huts with farms/smithy areas
maybe if i really want to be crazy ill level everything to 100, but its unlikely and if i complete the other tasks id consider my world complete
Although I did find a listing monolith in the plains and made the most of it. I built a small circular base hanging from the bottom of it via wood iron beams, it hangs real close to a fueling camp. Slapped a portal inside it and called it the nest
It’s now just a sniper outpost for when I want to clear the camp and gather some barley/flax
nice!
yea the location i chose for my base happens to be in the perfect location to where raids wont make it to my base, unless they can fly
Yeah I’m yet to be able to find a way to efficiently defend against flying assaults properly. It kinda sucks because I like to go for aesthetic builds and I’m currently at the stage where I get drake raids 😅
i had a troll raid really early into my playthrough, they legit destroyed 75% of my base and i was contemplating just not fixing it
i completely understand the feeling
Yeah I think for my next base I plan to have it somewhere a little higher up, so I can terraform and dig beneath the base itself for my breeding farms to protect them. Make the most of that 8 meter space
My problem atm is my boar, lox and wolf pens are exposed because I have them outdoors for the aesthetic feel around the farm
true thats always a pain
ive had to tame and breed 2 star boars, 3 differnt times
because they died to raids
now tho i have way too much boar meat, and have no idea what to do with it all. im way past boar meat food
Yeah I have my 2 star board setup for the infinite meat farm. Wolves however I haven’t setup that way yet as I only have 1 stars. I tend to use them as a small army of companions as opposed to resources
I use my boar meat just to keep my wolves fed
yea i need to go find a wolf as well
Yeah I’ve not been lucky enough to find a 2 star yet
they only spawn at night, and can only spawn where you have already seen a 1 star
they are kinda hard to find
i remember 1 playthrough i had spent prob 10 hour total just looking for 2 star wolf
Yeah the spot i found my 1 star isn’t too far from my base, I’ve ventured there a few times at night but never spotted a 2 star sadly
See now I’ve got the idea in my head of restarting and building a miniature castle…damnit 🤣
I can’t find a recent chat that talks about this but is there a way to upgrade the Workbench to LVL 6 yet to Max out Troll Armor, Or is it still unfinished?
troll armor gets max level a workbench level 5
workbench's max level is 5 and it's finished
Well it took a couple deaths/mad dash escapes but I've worked out how to deal the the tar blobs. A sort of 'spiral' motion where you inch closer while strafing around. Like I'm going down the drain.
When I first got hit by that thing I was like 'WHAT!? What's the counterplay to that thing!?' but this seems to work well.
yeah, when facing multiple, besides leading them to other enemies; You can keep a distance where they can't shoot you to make sure all of them are without the attack cooldown and once they are grouped up, get close and run sideways, making them all miss. This will give you a time window to kill one or 2 with a mace
don't really need to zig zag, just running to their sides should be enough
they are team undead so they aren't very friendly with the other plains enemies
Is there any way to reduce the heat shimmer effect in Ashlands? I have stop playing this game because of that. The last time I played that effect kept giving me headaches so just not worth it.
i got on just to do some little things, those little things turned into 3 hours
What things?
get on, cook food, some gardening, some smelting, some upgrading, some organizing
to be specific:
i did some cooking, then i went and collected some sap
killed all my chickens and gave them some more seeds
replanted my mushroom field in the Mistlands
expanded my ashvine farm, smelted some iron and flamemetal
collected some cloudberries and fed my windmills
then i finished off with some chest sorting, and upgrading of some gear
then all of a sudden it was 2 and half hours later
sounds like you need a base mum/dad or you are that 🙂
nah i play solo, thats kinda just what i do, i hate when my base gets disorganized or i run out of food
Morgen Gjall.
Main menu music appreciation post, after all this time the music still gives me a warm feeling, it is simply brilliant.
What confuses me is how the music is really good, but not catchy. It doesn't get stuck in your head like other music
It is perfect "ambient" music. It's not there to take the forefront, only to set the mood which it does with honours.
I'm the same. Some nights I realise I have played the entire evening without actually "doing" anything, just organising the base, tending to crops, smelting some ore etc etc. Then all of a sudden hours have gone by. Other nights I just set off somewhere with an actual goal. And the game doesn't try and nudge me in either direction, I love that about Valheim.
Same here, though I wished some things would require less time, planting and harvesting a bunch of crops, filling smelters, crafting a bunch of arrows, cooking food, it al takes up quite a bit of time.
I would love a tool to multi plant and harvest, quick fill of smelters and the like, crafting and cooking queue so that you can slot in bunch of things to craft and cook but that it takes the same amount of time but with less clicking, ...
While multi-planting would be very convenient, especially once you get to the plains with barley, I don't think it is strictly necessary. A solo player doesn't really need that big a field, and if it's a larger group on a server players could theorectically help each other out instead of leaving it to one base pixie do do all the farming. One thing I would love to see that would not alter the time it takes to do stuff - just reduce the amount of mouse punishment - is adding a "crafting queue" for cooking and multiple crafts like arrows. Just set the amount you want to craft - e.g. five stacks of arrows or 20 wolf skewers - and they will all be crafted in sequence as long as you have the mats needed, without needing to click once for every craft. Simple QOL improvement but no actual change to the time required.
We mostly play with 2 people but since farming takes a while and we don't like doing that, we plant big batches of crops, like 100 each time so that we can make loads of food after that.
In that way we can not plant or harvest anything for quite a while but when we do get low we have a big task ahead of us and can easily spent a few hours on harvesting, planting, getting the meat and other ingredients after that comes all the cooking and such.
So anything to make that monumental task go over faster would be welcome.
Understood, I like to build up a buffer of mats and food myself to not need to do it often, but yeah those time I do it will offer little in the way of adventure. But I don't really mind that personally but I do understand the frustration it can cause. Still, from what I've seen of dev comments on the topic they've pretty much shut the door on multi-planting tools. 😕
Yeah, once the game is finished and I did a full playtrough like the devs have intended I might start using some qol mods for such things.
I'm enjoying the game atm and am playing on console. Just wanted to ask is there any reason why the input delay is so bad?? It's not too bad when playing on MnK but just torture using a controller. Is this just a console thing and is there any way to fix it? Or is this just a game preview thing
‘Game preview’ is just what Microsoft calls an early access game.
I didn’t notice input delay when I played on console, does this happen with any other games?
No
Literally just a terrible experience on controller but fine mnk. Still not great but it doesn't really bother me that much
That’s not the only issue with controller support either.
which console you plaing on?
and are you using a wired or wireless controller?
Series X. Has nothing to do with performance or wifi
Yes tho it just struggles with this game that's all
It's like rly bad
Just wanted to know if it was just me or not
It's just this game tho
But if it's just me it's my end ig
Thx anyways
Wdym
I don't actually know tho I haven't touched any settings with it. Just a basic Xbox controller
it might need some settings tweak
I remember having to adjust for input lag when I played with a wireless controller on PC
I just tested my SeriesS controller on SeriesS console and I'm noticing no input lag.
I do have input lag when I play with mouse and keyboard tho, and setting the graphic setting to performance mods fixes that.
Try unplugging your mouse and keyboard while playing, and try performance mode, to see if there is any difference.
Also which controller you have? Xbox elite perhaps?
Tried wiring the controller? Bluetooth Vs wireless?
You can also try updating the firmware on your controller in Accessibility settings on your console → copilot settings.
You can also try checking if you have Allow low-latency mode enabled in General Xbox settings → TV & Display options → Video modes → Disable it
hmm, drakkar big. My ports suddenly turned small
major restructuring anticipated. Muster the builders
Don't forget to bring your HAMMAR!
THE Hammar
Black Metal Chests are unironically cheaper than renforced ❤️
Well except in footprint. They take up more space.
yeah, agreed. feels super cheap to make. i tend to have a big surplus of black metal available, especially when you get stone portals and can go retrieve black metal you might have around the map easier
bit more than 4,5 stacks 😄 not bad, not bad
If you search this discord you see there's a bunch of posts from me regarding storage optimisation and black metal vs reinforced. It's kinda weird.
Ashlands is 🤌
Really enjoying the whole experience.
where? text or pics?
Both
Search for messages from me with mentions of jawbonegroove.
It got more complicated after that.
That’s where the bones are stored 🦴
cool to know but I don't like placing chests at max density
did you get the height measuments?
usually I work with 3 chests per 4m of height, seems to work decently for all chests, even though black metal is slightly higher
not all chests, both chests, wood chests are quite shorter
usually I get 4 chests per 4m of height though again, that's not max density
Reinforced chests are actually slightly taller, iirc.
And, yeah, I ended up going with 1 chest per 1x2x2 'shelf', at which point Black Metal gets you the most overall, and most per-category, storage for any given volume.
A chest dedicated to yellow mushrooms, it’s perfect lol
my kitchen design was similar but a (4/3)x2x2 storage
I should post a picture of the finished set up, moved some things around, and filled up all the shelves. Then have some extra storage on the floor above. That has room to expand into.
I find coming up with kitchen designs pretty difficult, it’s hard to aesthetically fit all those cauldron upgrades lol
Yeah, the way they block each other can be... problematic...
nothing a hidden underground floor can't solve 😂
Depends if you like the aesthetic of having all the upgrades visible, or not.
well, even if you want to see all upgrades you could place the working ones underground and place visible ones more spread out, even out of range from the bench/cauldron
yo looking for somone to start a new world with me. Im just looking for someone to play with.
Random thought: If two players on a server both activate moder sailing different ways, what happens?
thx sry
they both have wind blowing for them i believe
Anyone know if there's a good recap of how IG went about generating the hype/marketing/etc. on its initial release?
either we're very lucky on our server, or very unlucky...
out of the two trolls we ran into (while still having Flint tier equipment), both were 1 star 😂
they pretty much kill us in a single hit xD
Yeah: They signed a contract with an external publisher (coffee stain)
Was it just coffee stain's existing clout/rep (DRG etc.)? Or did they do something out of the ordinary? The game became extremely popular immediately out of nowhere FWIR
Its simply a great game 🤷♂️
I feel like it caught the attention of a lot of streamers and content creators. Maybe keys were given to streamers to show off the game?
Summary
Last one alone was a unique feature that's very rarely if ever present at all (killer trees) in the genre
Also many things that are cosmetic in most games have a gameplay function in valheim, like comfort (encourages decoration)
Yeah of course, but simply great games often don't pick up steam. Was curious if there was some secret sauce here
It seemed WOM spread impossibly fast. Streamer keys etc. could explain it if they went hard on that. Lots of games try the same thing though to middling success
Imo it comes down to this: Make great game, get recognition for it. We have seen some games with lots of marketing fail in a spectacular way if the game was bad, very recently... cough Concord cough
Literally just posted a list of possible reasons
the coop multiplayer aspect also grew a very good community and very good word of mouth advertising
Those (which I acknowledged) are just the reasons the game is great, my point is that often great games don't pick up that quick
The fact that it was during late global quarantine stages might have been another factor.
Being enclosed and having little to do except gaming was feasible
It keeps the fun bits of survival and changes up the unfun bits.
Like the building system that makes you put more thought into building. In many survival games your base is just a large box to hold your stuff. Here you have to make sure it keeps you warm and dry
BUT!!!
It doesn't go 'too far' with the survival aspect where its no longer fun. If you have like 6 differant meters to worry about and if any one of them hits 0 you die.... thats just not fun for the average player
Stability being something important to consider encouraged to build realistically.
And support also makes structures usually look nice
Valheim is tough enough for the survival buffs but juuuust managable for the average gamer.
sounds about right
the soul vets can yolo quite a bit to make it fun and malenia-caused corpse #2923462342 can prepare some stuff
What happened in ashlands?
It's a little difficult, sure.
if it was just the difficulty it wouldnt be as much of an issue
yeah, the death penalty is very light, or rather it's heavy but your default strength is just fine and having low stats doesn't mean much if you're not really trying to optimize
Yag vegvisir, villages, or just stone structures?
it does feel powerful though having a weapon skill at 60 or 80 or higher! Blood Magic also is not that useful at less than 40 imho, but I think skill system is in a pretty good place
Can I ask why your experience is terrible? I just got back into the game and resumed my Ashlands experience, and I’ve been having a blast. I find the chaos to be really enjoyable, and the terrain/environment interesting and straightforward to navigate, contrast to the Mistlands.
I had sword 85, now its 60, feelsbadman XD
I have found a workaround, as soon as you are in dangerous situations and have died the first time, make sure you die every 9mins and 40s or so to keep up the buff and "the gods will be merciful!", don't let this cool buff expire! "No skill loss"
😂
Cant say I like the sound of this idea...
Just don't die 😉
OR More importantly, if drunk, don't valheim on your good toon
the sheer volume of enemies is definitely too much for me, especially with the ranged ones thrown in the mix and the high rate at which starred mobs spawn
honestly with the amount of them keeping an actual eye on your surroundings becomes impossible and the game becomes a bet on whether two starred asksvins two blobs and a morgen happen to wander in or not
i dont like that theres hardly any way to get a real foothold until cracking the fortress, especially if youre planning on farming asksvins
couple that with the general performance issues in the area from the amount of drops and enemies and trees falling over resulting in half the particles and animations not triggering correctly
not to mention frame freezes
stuff like not being able to see where the arrows im dodging are actually going or coming from sometimes or the valkyries flame attacks getting weird pauses and stutters
i dont like the rng associated with digging flametal off of the lavaiathans
Gotcha, thanks for the input. I will say, yeah I’ve had some odd frame freezes as well. My first fortress I was swarmed by so many enemies, but I actually thought it was kinda neat 😂
Do Flametal spires still sink?
they still sink
OH, I must’ve just been really lucky lol
Each time an ore segment is hit, there is a 10% chance that the lavaiathan will be disturbed (indicated by it emitting noise). Once 20 seconds have passed after it is first disturbed, it will begin permanently submerging into the lava (accompanied by more noises). During those 20 seconds, further hits still have a 10% chance to trigger the initial noise.
I thought they didn’t sink anymore, I’ve relaxed a good bit while mining them lol
Oh wow, I must be crazy lucky lol
having it growl on like hit two or three 3 times in a row is pretty demotivating, especially with the amount of metal you need for multiple people
i actually dont mind the bigger fights, morgens and valkyries are pretty fun to fight
even getting caught in the middle of two of them isnt too bad cause you can just dodge them till one of them kills the other
the issue when a dozen other enemies join in, especially ranged types thatll take your stamina down while blocking removing your ability to roll
if i can actually see the arrows
It was temporarily stopped while they fixed the sliding bug.
so like, yeah the difficulty is a big part of it but its also just the type of challenge and the added factors of bad luck and performance
Ahh gotcha, thanks for the info. Now I feel a little cheesy taking advantage of all the spires while they’re inactive lol
Gotcha, sorry to hear that you’re having a bad time. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
I’ve definitely noticed that I have a lot more success when I bring mead. I feel like mead is always important, but even more so in the Ashlands.
i usually bring stamina, lingering stamina greater healing and fire resist
Do you have any world modifiers changed?
i do like cooking so its giving me a lot of opportunity to do that i guess
nope
i figured weve come so far with the defaults so it feels kinda like giving up to change them now
Honestly, no shame in tuning down the death penalty. If collecting your gear is a pain in the ||butt|| then just turn it off and have fun 😁
thats fair
Just looking for any server to play on Xbox ty
#1024264966712340510 has lots of servers, there might be one that suits you.
After 15 serpents i finally got a trophy!
Im about to start my hunt for serpent trophies. I need 2 of them. 😭 One for my trophy hall and one for the bait to catch one of the 2 fish im missing.
I got a spot, where if i sail at night, theres a potential 4 spawns, ive been doing that every few days, but only just got lucky XD GL Bro
Do the trophies float?
I don't know about all of them but the serpent trophy sinks, that's for sure 😂
Time to break out the old harpoon again
Sadly they sink
I recommend jumping on serpents head when they are at such low health that they only need 1 shot with the bow, shooting before you get close enough, tricky to learn and do but once you do learn it you can get 50%+ of the scales and the trophy almost every time it does drop. Thats what I m doing nowadays
Same with the biome loitering. I have no blastfurnace, no moder kill, and 1 stack more than a full case fo darkmetal from needing to kill surrounding fuling groups any time i enter or leave my elevated base (built on top of a stone monolith) on foot.
I build warehouses with blackmetal chests. uses up a bit
lol
but what i meant was i have achest full of blackmetal scrap just from plinking fulings and biome loitering
324 black metal to make one of my warehouses with 54 chests 🙂
500 scraps to a chest :)
dont even feel bad for sniping 500 fulings either
just when i was about to deploy a 116-203 chest storage area planbuild broke, its been bothering me every time i start to overgrow my old bases or consider making a new one in a new area. Assembling entirely it by hand and jus thoping everyting works first time would be too much hassle though
im interested in this technique; aii i ever get is a few meat. it always seems to be suspiciously lacking in volume.
Are you saying you shoot the final sho tin mid air as you jump, or that you jump, land, shoot and auto-scoop?
also, what are my options if my boat is ever destroyed? just wait to drown?
sumoning a rescue vessel would be nice, but all my friends are filthy casuals, it might take days for them to even log in
and what happens to my gear? i always assumed it just sinks and is lost forever
do people usually sail in leather armor or something disposable and leave their tankwear at home?
you just shoot as soon as you jumped mid-air, important to jump to the right spot very close to its head, if you shoot too late you will not land on the head you fall through it you can't ride them etc afaik
your gravestone never despawns, all your gear will be there. the loot from the boat box will be dropped in floating containers, it will despawn if it takes you too long. If no friends or rescue vikings available, drown and get back with another boat. nails and hides from boat will sink, the rest of the materials will also float so you'll only be out a few skills and the nails/hides
gravestone also floats
oh, nice... and here i was wondering how deep i could go (and how janky it would be) with the diving mod i saw earlier today
you will need to get back soon because the boat boxes and the wood from boat will despawn eventually (not sure about time) but gravestone will always be there
i was almost disappointed when i realised i could swim in clothes, but full plate mail seemed a bit too much. Now, many hours later, i'm fine with it all.
sinking if armour too heavy and therefore loosing all that stuff would be quite bad, don't give the devs any ideas! there is a precedent with dangerous stuff points to fire hazard settings
imagine the awesome if they made you have to get skilled and geared in diving before you could recover subaquatic wreckage
horrors of the deep
new biome - THE DEEP
well that won't happen because DN is comfirmed to be last biome
"this summer, from the people who bought you 'look, it has a star on it's head... BAMP....wtf i have a shield, why am i dead!!" comes the latest chapte rin the world of Valheim "oh, so you went swimming with your pants on, lol you drowned"
POLL: bones:
a) spend them on a bone tower shield
b) spend them io hardening leather armor
c) save them and make troll armor asap
d) other (bone use)
Morgen gjall.
finally reached the ashlands
not really enjoying the biome so far tbh, feels like there's always way too much to deal with as a solo player. any tips for not getting swarmed every 10 seconds by scorched?
Friendly fire is the strongest new weapon
Loads of campfires.
After that you can setup a base and spawn proof the area further.
You can then have a portal in the base can get back to, once you have conquered a fort make that your base.
Also fun to do if you have the time is getting a 2 star asksvin and breed a bunch of them and let them loose.
Can the scorched hurt each other??? Saw some dwarves fight a few of them but they also get swarmed very fast
i am not 100% sure charred can hurt each other (but i THINK they can), but i am pretty sure that different kinds of enemies in there can damage each other 🙂
Like having a morgen or an asksvin roll or charge at you, you dodge it and the other mobs close to you getting punted or flung into the lava.
Charred and voltures don’t have friendly fire, but every other enemy has it on some or all attacks.
Morgens and valkyries are best because of the large hitboxes
Hey - are you a mage or warrior build?
They can’t hurt each other, but valkaries and morgens can hurt them
Hoe and stones - raise an earth wall around a small area to have a safe space from mobs. Beware though, lava blobs can jump over if the wall is too low and they can damage terrain, but other mobs (that can't fly) cannot enter.
Or build on one of those ocean stacks until you make a more permanent base in one of the charred forts
Good morgen
There is no such thing as a good morgen 😂
A dead one is a good morgen.
They are quite useful demolishing buildings so I can claim all that sweet grausten for my building needs - then they serve best dead.
maybe, but there can be a REALLY bad morgen 😄 #fanart message
That's not a morgen that's a german evening --> abend.
oh yes, otherwise known as morgen gjall 😄
I wonder what that does sound like?
horrifying i imagine 🙂
I imagine the morgen sound, the gjall sound but garbled up and the clicking of bones together all at the same time to make for a really grueling sound mashup.
Imagine hearing this IRL. 🥲
Morgen has broken
NO!!! 🤣
oh yes 😄
I will spontaneously decease 😂
Thoughts on using a charred fortress as an Asksvin taming pen?
Block the entrance obviously
i'm taming in holes outside my fortress mini-base. I don't want to destroy the gates at all, as I like the fortress completelly safe except for the air. I have a 1star tamed, just trying to find another one nearby. My plan is to just then connect their holes, and get them pumping out a couple eggs i take back to the meadows base.
If you have them inside you'd probably want to have a pen anyway, or at least block the stairs because they'll run up them and either attract enemies or potentially go over the sides. A roof is helpful, since just one Valkyrie can put a definite kink in your operation. But best bet is get your best leveled eggs and set up breeding at a safe base, and just bring back eggs for mounts.
creatures that take damage from lava should really be smarter about not walking into lava
dverger are little masocist psychos
Would I be able to run a dedicated server on my shitty old laptop with 4GB ram?
Maybe. But, if it was me, I'd feel bad about subjecting anyone that joined my server to that.
Are there any public or community servers out there?
Thanks for the tips! @hazy viper thanks as well. My plan is to tame a couple Askvins (one being 2 star Odin be willing) in a pen, maybe a repurposed fort. Wait for a couple eggs, then bring them back to my main base.
Oooh grausten floors count as roofing, very nice
I would say for your initial taming, a pit just outside a fortress might be better. When they're untamed you can shield-bash them into the pit, and then sit safely inside the fortress while they tame up. (Bonus, you can stealth walk around the whole time and level that up.)
Yo, were sunken crypts touched on recently? I've found two new tiles I don't think I've ever seen before. A tall staircase up to a small platform and an iron gate in-dungeon.
No. They never were
thats been there for a long time 🙂 tho the gates are a bit rare indeed
meanwhile i cant even find a crypt lol i jsut keep finding burial grounds
does the ashlands building pieces have a higher limit of structural integrity?
No
but why?)
Man, Frostner wrecks for going back to make iron runs.
Blunt is the weakness of: Skelly, oozer, blobs
Spirit is the weakness of: Damn near everything in the swamp.
Leaches, one of the two actually alive creatures in the swamp is always in the water and therefore weak to frost!
Try your luck in the Swamp instead of the Black Forest. 😉
no i mean in the swamp lol
ive found like 4 burial grounds so far in the swamp and no crypts
What’s a burial ground?
Oi! I was about to ask that!
No idea. Not something I'm aware of in the Swamps.
burial grounds are found in the swamp and black forest, and are the main source of bone fragments and valuables and surtling cores in the beginning. theyre dungeons where u have to clear out rooms full of skeletons, ghosts and other stuff
Burial chambers are only in Black Forest.
No, the only dungeons in Swamps are Crypts.
I think I might have worked out why you can't find any Crypts.
gimme a sec
I've never seen any burial grounds (or chambers) in the Swamp.
Only sunken crypts.
Are you playing with mods, perhaps?
Taming always feels sooooo long. 30 minutes best case is an eternity.
so i just realized u cant put screenshots here. but im 100% in the swamp, ive gotten attacked by several spectres and there are surtling spawners and leeches and shit everywhere, with the swamp biome and all. swamp, rotten trees, etc. 100% swamp biome, and ive found 3 burial chambers so far
Screenshots go in #screenshots
And once again, no burial chambers in Swamps.
it is bordering a forest area and a meadows area though. but the burial chambers were inside of the swamp border
i do, gimme a sec
Does that burial ground have a (locked) iron door as entrance?
Sometimes they can generate in a way where they appear to be in a different biome, but in my experience there has always been a Black Forest very close
im not dumb lol ik the difference between burial grounds and crypts. ive gotten all the way to the plains before
No one is saying you’re dumb, I think everyone’s just trying to get to the bottom of it 🙂
Also note that you won’t find crypts at Swamp borders. They tend to require a Swamp of a big enough size, and they are more passed the edges.
im putting a vid in #memes-and-clips
What would be dumb is to pick up a full longboat of iron, sail it to your base, do lots of other things, then realize you're short of iron, so you explore and loot quite a number of sunken crypts, sail your longboat to that swamp area because you play with the standard portal rules meaning you can't portal that iron, so you can pick those 18 stacks of iron up you just looted, only to find out you never unloaded your longboat. 🤦♂️
On the positive, if you were that dumb, you got 1K of iron ore to be smelted and most likely have enough for the rest of the game. Right? 😄
i feel that. when i was playing with this one group i was playing with for a while, we kinda did the same thing lmfao
we ended up using a mod to tp metal thru portals
If it’s your first visit to the swamps and first time smelting iron… I hate to say it, but it possibly/probably/most likely is not enough “forever”
It seems you never stop needing iron
I could solve it by simply changing the modifier to allow metal teleportation. But the idea you explored a lot of crypts to get that 18 stacks of iron, just to discover you already had 18 stacks of iron in your longboat, but never unloaded it.........
At least that 1060 iron would last a long time.
i currently have 6 iron, idk what i got it from but i killed a few things and it was on the ground afterward while i was in the swamp. so now im sitting on barely not enough iron to do anything with it lmfao
If you choose to keep all iron weapons and armor at level 1, and just progress to the next biome, MAYBE you won’t need any for a long time. But Idk it seems you almost always are needing iron lol especially if you’re like me and like to max level every upgrade
Not the first time to the swamp. I'm already at mountains, got most of my base build; including the main house; so the only thing the iron is needed for are some iron beams by the time I get to Mistland and to craft / upgrade some weapons and armor.
I'm pretty sure 1K of iron is enough for that.
You could consider bringing boat materials thru the portal and building a 2nd boat
i guess it depends on how much of it youre gonna incorporate into your build and weapon upgrades, if youre not gonna go crazy on that then 1k is def enough for a while
Also, with zero cheating, you do not need to sail back and forth every time
1k is utterly crazy.
also if youre playing alone/with ppl cause that 1k goes pretty quick when youve got like 6 ppl
I often will get to base, unload the boat, and when I’m going to go back for more, I beach the boat, chop down the mast, collect the boat materials, and take the boat materials thru the portal. Then load the boat up and sail home.
It saves the sailing from home base to swamp
thats pretty smart. but what about the metal needed for the boat? or are u not worried about it since u have so much already
The boat needs nails. Those can transport thru portal
oh u right
I got the main house with the iron grates for the chimney. I got the iron tools and weapons at max level already, not doing the iron armor as I prefer to use light armor.
Meaning the only thing I will need iron for in the future are some armor stands, the wood-iron beams, some iron gates, some nails and eventually a bunch of iron grates to work as a chicken coop.
I'm quite certain that 1K of iron - and probably more as I have some at my main base - will be enough for a solo player.
And if it isn't......
Well, there's still one sunken crypt in that swamp to explore and more unexplored swamps on the map. Plus there's always the iron I can mine in the Mistlands. 🤷♂️
If i go to the deep north now and explore it, do the areas ive been to update when the full biome comes out
No.
^ what he said
it's best to not go to the deep north at all until the biome is released imo
Smiley The Sea Serpent always attacks the ship when then the haul is full of plunder. Day or night. It's like he waits for us...
I don't use iron weapons or armour at all, and I still use a massive amount of iron, you need iron pick for silver, need like a bunch of irons for work bench and forge upgrades, and than iron beam poles for building, stone cutter
And oh yes a lot of the plains furnitures use iron nails or iron
As well as if you want iron boat
do ashland crops have to be planted in ashlands to grow? like barley and flax?
those are plains crops, pretty sure they only grow in plains biome
I obviously meant the plain crops as an example of crops being biome specific
Vineberries can grow in most biomes, I’d assume all except mountains and swamp.
awful phrasing
That's boring 😁 A true viking sails and explores as he goes!
Especially during night
Haha you right. I suppose it depends on how many hours you have in the game. My first couple playthroughs I was more dedicated to things like that. It also sort of depends on where I am in the playthrough. Early days I’ll sail more. Later into progression I might not be interested in sailing both ways
you understood what I meant, you just wanted a reason to be a douche
That really wasn't what you said.
A person with standard intelligence and deductive reasoning would have understood what I meant. I don't see the reason to misunderstand people on purpose, just to be "funny"
ignore derek, he is a special case
I don't believe Kizashi was trying to be funny. It simply wasn't as clear as you imagined.
ur message made it sound like ur a new player who hadnt reached either of those biomes yet, i was just tryna help yet u responded to me with a sassy reply
We just reached it. And I am not a new player, and even if I was, I don't think it's a reason to be condescending, because that is what your reply sounded like, since the help I wanted was to know about Ashland crops, and not about plain crops.
well sorry if it seemed that way my man i wasnt trying to be hostile at all
okay, then no worries
You ever die so far away you just log off and say "this is not current me's problem"
Fiddleheads aren’t able to be planted, they’re only available by foraging.
All the time 😂
Literally right as I was going to place a portal too a couple draugrs and wraiths come out of nowhere
tbf was pushing my luck but I was just trying to get the base down 😭
Looking for a dedicated server.....my world I was in on my xbox is now just plains.....not sure what happened and nothing has fixed it
So I think if we made the shield generator also keep out bats, we’d have a great compromise. Thoughts?
I'm sure I read somewhere that it does keep out flying creatures. Of course that was wrong, but it took me ages to shake that feeling that I'd read that.
it keeps projectiles from coming in, but not out
also, i'm having a hell of a time creating asksvin breeding tower. they don't poop eggs out their butts like chickens do. it's out their chest. AND it appears to not work if there's empty space below them? i dunno, but when i tried removing some floors, it stopped eggs, even though it says they are happy
World modifiers > disable raids
Done
Or devcommands > removekey killedbat
Building in the ashlands sucks holy crap
Yeah, and all types of weather. Like I said, I could swear I read that, about flying mobs, somewhere. But I have no idea where. And it’s plainly not true. Totally should be though.
In general I just kinda feel a bit let down by this biome, I loved the unique challenges the Mistlands provided but all the new stuff introduced in this update just feel cheap
Sucks? Grausten are some of the best build pieces in the game.
Oh no I love the new build pieces I'm talking about actually building IN the biome
Oh?
i have built in taken fortresses. that seems pretty nice
The constant enemy spawn rates really make it difficult to focus on anything, I feel like even the swamp wasn't this aggressive when trying to set up camp
I have yet to get in one tbh but they look pretty cool from a distance
Eh, they're not constant. Especially these days.
Just make sure to take out all of the spawners.
That was the first thing I did but charred are still absolutely everywhere 💀 I'll have triple checked to make sure the area is clear, turn back to building and then 30 seconds later I'll be fighting yet another little twitcher that thought I'd be funny to chuck pebbles at my shield
Ashlands is the one biome where I actively spawn suppress.
Actually, I tell a lie. I do in the Plains as well. But only at tar pits.
I'll definitely admit I'm not the best at this game at all but even with that said I still can get through the other biome without too much trouble, mistlands maybe being the exception but I still had fun with it. This one's just really, really oppressive
I mean, that's a given. 8 biomes, in it's time to use all the lessons we've learned so far.
But the devs (apparently) don’t want us spawn suppressing.
That's just the thing, there's not really any lessons to be applied here?? It's surprisingly straightforward compared to the last one and is super simplistic on the surface but the enemies just have a lot of health, a lot of numbers and do a lot of damage
Except for the Morgens. Love those things they're just the right kind of challenge
Morgens are bonkers. Kinda have to love them.
But yeah ashlands doesn't really feel like it's testing my valheim knowledge as much as it is testing my ability to run tf in the opposite direction
Honestly I kinda feel like I've encountered much less charred soldiers at the spawners than I have in their roaming packs
Seems unlikely.
I like the environment itself at least
I thought the fire effects would be annoying but they do a lot for the immersion factor and as always the landscape is just breathtakingly gorgeous
if they didn't want us to spawn suppress, the objects wouldn't do it
and i figured out the askvin breeding tower. you only want their front feet on a row of 1x1 floor. everything else hangs off. then the eggs fall down. woo
Finally completed a tiny little house in the ashlands after 2 hours 💀
You're not meant to build there in the first place.
There's nothing worth in ashlands that encourages building a permanent base
He fact that it's on the extreme south of the world away from everything else and surrounded by a killing sea should be enough hint
agreed. i've built just a couple small safe houses, and that's all i want or need
That's exactly why I am building there tbh I needed to set up a safe camp to guard the portals and stuff in
I have an outpost there that’s basically a glorified portal box lol
It kinda feels like you're encouraged to build there for that very reason actually it's the only biome I've felt it necessary to actually build a settlement in since the meadows
The tiny house is just there to make sure I have a place to go to get rested where I'm not required to portal hop back
And also to deaggro enemies if need be bc I have DEFINITELY needed to a lot so far
I kinda feel the opposite- I feel discouraged to build there 😅 lava, tough enemies, enemies that destroy terrain, crops can’t grow. Yeah, not ideal lol
You're saying it yourself, a small outpost.
Not a giant permanent base you will return to for the rest of the game
I didn't build a giant permanent base?
Once we're done with ashlands in the future there will probably be no reason to return at all
I know...
Which is literally what I said...
Ashlands is for small refuges, not big bases
really, just take every fortress and use that as your safe spots. portal inside, build some way to get in easy. put a workbench in the center and each corner
Because the whole biome discourages settling there like the other biomes
Thought I saw Smiffe say something to that effect, recently. But can’t find it now. So could be mistaken.
Did this not imply I was there to build a permanent base???
If not I apologize it's just what it gave off
I meant a base like you would in meadows or anywhere else
because the fortress walls are unbreakable by mobs, they are perfect for it
Well that's not what I said I was doing
I also do feel like the shield generators do somewhat encourage building at least a little bit in the area since they're basically built for it
Shoot I should get one set up at my home base too
Just discovered that there are ||Dvergr outposts in Ashlands|| how cool!
||I've had Dvergers in the Mistlands say comments about like "those who went south" or something. it is neat||
I felt it was more the degree to which you can suppress spawns that was unintended, rather than simply having some items also provide some limited spawn protection.
But, like I said, I can’t find the comment that lead me to that feeling, now.
I keep seeing the little dudes around but they don't stay alive for very long usually lol
the fact that 3 player base objects within 40m can allow a raid is a great counter to objects spawn suppressing. it fits perfectly
dverger in ashlands are suicidal and seem to love running in lava
They have so much fiddlehead lol. One mentioned that he hopes the children are ok, interesting.
How many raids are actually problematic in the Ashlands?
they are certainly annoying enough that i don't want to just blanket the biome in campfires.
alright, i'm at 40 1star asksvin eggs and counting. i'm not sure what i'm going to do with them however lol
I didn't say that is what you did.
I said that the biome discourages that kind of building
Ashlands isn't a place where building a meadows/plains-like base is a good idea due to how inconvenience it is on all regards.
So it's no surprising that trying it at all is an awful experience. You build the bare minimum to survive there and done
Having one single biome that discourages building properly when we have other six where we could is a good change of pace
i think i'm going to hatch 40 or so asksvin outside of each of my fortresses and create a bigger safe zone
I see, my apologies. Even still I don't necessarily think that a place being designed to be awful to build in doesn't necessarily take away from the fact that it is, in fact, awful to build in
Well, only 6 of the 18 possible raid events can even occur there. 1 of which you’ll likely never see there (because it’s disabled by beating the Queen), and only 2 are Ashlands natives.
right, so the 2 charred raids, and then the 3 hildr raids really. those are the only ones i would be annoyed about
I got the Brenna one while I was building the house and was honestly relieved
I'd much rather fight skeletons than the annoying charred archers
when i'm mucking about in a fortress base, i've gotten the hildr raids and it's pretty funny really
hi. anyonne want coime help in mistlands ? this biome is horrible. worst update on a game i ever seen
how far have you gotten? Also my least favorite biome but can't rush much...You need some key things there in BULK for the next biome
What are you having trouble with?
mislands biome sucks badly
no way to move correctly. only high pics. this update was the worste
Dvergr settlements are common in mistlands ?
They’re easy to spot because of their wisp lanterns
no way to find any
You have to explore
i did a lot in mistland.
You could try sailing on a border between mistlands and ocean to find a dvergr harbour
how many Armor types exist in Valheim ?(without Hildir)
14
Two in most biomes, one in plains and three in ashlands
seriously ... mistland biome.....
i gave up the game long time ago because of this upfdate i think i will delete again.
why Mjstland ez
because this biome suckxs BADLY
it doesn't do you have mistlight ? max Armor ? do you Parry ?
one star beetle owns you whatevzer you can try
espacially if there are several beetels with it
and you can't run since you run out of stamina in a sec
beetle? do you mean the blood sucker ?
don't know there names
what weapon do you use ?
Do chickens starve to death do you don’t feed them?
no
i remember why i deleted the game long time ago 😛
