Is it just speed?
Get to Mistlands.
Acquire Krom.
Bask in your own glory.
figured.
hmm, might be interesting to do a "fists & 2 handed" playthrough to see what it's like.
they look cool. fast. decent damage for their tier. they look cool. like knives, no movement speed ding. also they look really cool.
one person on here is currently doing a fists only run.
flesh rippers will be the only melee weapon he gets. not sure if hes also gonna use a bow at some point
gonna be hard to deal with gjall otherwise.
For those who have played with magic as a main weapon, do you recommend a full eitr-rich diet, or is it more 2/3 eitr 1/3 HP food. I typically do the latter but tried a full eitr setup and wasnt sure how i felt about being so squishy
nah, just throw a dwarf at it
I'm currently running a hybrid build with 1 health, 1 stam & 1 eitr food.
when my magic skills were lower, I'd run 1 stam and 2 eitr to get enough for skellies.
Thats my ashlands strategy. Not having a gut morgen? Screw that dwarves are nearby
my friend does 2 eitr 1 hp. afaik 2 eitr 1 stam is also feasible
I actuall figured out a fairly simple way to level up blood magic superduper fast without hax.
Go make a graydwarf farm, and use skeletons to farm instead of wolvies. Yes it needs more attention but your shield taking damage increases the blood magic XP along eith damage dealt by the undead
dwarves seem to do ok in mistlands, buttt....they don't seem to last long in ashlands
I mean yeaπ€£. But im running the heck away
we use a body pile from a re-purposed draugr village in meadows
Thats fairly straightforward too. I alwaya thought those stopped spawning after a point
their pit is next to a pit full of necks. that one is for blocking.
How did you get necks in a pit? Lol
yep. I used a draugr village instead because you can bury the body pile to avoid it being destroyed.
stairs up, jump over behind them, block. the shield knockback bounces em right in. easy peasy
I used to level blocking with necks. Now I just use the skeleton raid.
kill off all the melee skellies and spam block while the archers shoot at me.
yeah get like a dozen in there and they level your block skill pretty efficiently
Oh thats not a bad idea actually. I get a decent amount of those still
also good plan π
Are you just trying to parry the archers?
Ah ok
If i get that ill try it. I have the strangest luck with raids and got smacked with THEY WERE BROS, MAN back to back in 2h time window
yeah i got that one like 3 times in 4-5 hours right after we cleared the tower
they keeld so many guard dogs :/
I mis-spoke. I just hold block. I don't try to parry, as @grand ravine said, it slows them down.
What i find absolutely wild is how everything will stop fighting each other to fight you.
At night because i have the queen defeated, roaches are out fighting goblins fighting skeletons fighting greykin
If i wander over to watch all of them suddenly go for me
Im concerned about what Fader will unleash at night if i kill him
Sleep at night.
Problem solved.
I can sleep when im.... Wait a second
Hi guys just downloaded it. Is my life over now?
gg
No, itβs just started.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misty_Fjords_National_Monument Mistlands + Black Forest irl
tell me I'm wrong
btw I live (near) there
Do 2 star boars ever spawn randomly alone or do they only spawn at a boar stone?
they have a chance to spawn randomly, but they're rare, and need to be outside a certain radius from centre (spawn stones)
How far from boss stones? like different island?
iirc it's 800m. not always on a different island. depends on how (big) your starting island generates. my new world has a couple on the same landmass. not exactly close to spawn either though.
hm ok ill wander my island but stay away from the boss stone
Yep. Is every server password protected haha
No it's your afterlife
don't you mean "yes, it's your afterlife"?
Possibly, isn't valhiem kinda like purgatory between life and death?
something like that yeah. but regardless, your first life is over
Oh yea very dead
holy crap ,another swamp with 0 crypts. i'm going crazy
it happens π¦
and then you get crypts with 0 iron...
if i found one of those at this point... lol
hi. i wonder if u guys know if valheim(or a mod for valheim) is going to get improved multiplayer?
for example something thats gonna make it more satisfying for people wanna join multiplayer etc
What does it mean when you find a boar spawner and absolutely no boars are in sight? Broken spawner?
what do you mean a boar spawn? do you mean a boar runestone?
ya
so from the wiki, it seems that a boar runestone means there will be some spawn points around it, plus some preset boars. nothing stops them from running off or just wandering. though i think they will be in that general area
if there's a black forest nearby, it's possible the got killed by greydwarves or something
in the middle of the meadow. its possible I've killled the boars but I thought they respawn close to it
sure, but it takes time
I mean last I was here was like 7 in game days ago so should be enough
boar stone boars do not respawn
they are a one-time spawn
yeah, wiki say 1-9 spawn points near boar runestone, but they are one-time
darn
still tryna find a 2star?
ya
it can be really tough sometimes. in my newest world i found two on my starting island (which is pretty big) pretty quickly. in my older "main" world I'm doing with a friend, idt i saw one until i was hunting for beehives after we were in mistlands -.- ...tbh, I'm not sure theyre worth hunting for unless it's a personal achievement/completionist thing. if you see one, great (i always glance when passing them), but, 1stars in a breeding setup will give you plenty of mats
Cant even find 1 star lol
you'll find one. just take it as it comes kinda, ithink. if you've got any boars you're already ahead. I'd try and develop the habit of glancing any you pass to check for stars (and checking buildings for beehives), but, focus on just exploring the map. when you cover enough ground, your odds of seeing one get a lot higher
So is Valheim gonna rebalance the ore grind? Needing hundreds of ore per age just feels like such a chore
not likely, apart from the world modifiers. it forces you to explore, and in that sense is already well balanced imo. you can turn up resource rate, but then you end up exploring with no goal but uncovering the map, which is less engaging, turns into a different kind of grind...
you can set a worl modifier that 3x the amount of recieved items
the resource multiplyer of 1.5 or so works great
dramatically reduced grind for ore
Iβm pretty sure you wonβt find any star boar within umm.. x amount from spawn area. Night time should increase your odds too
Some find boar farms not worth it, but I like to combine them w wolf farms and maybe a local carrot farm or setup near big patch o stuff to feed em
starred boars only spawn a certain distance from spawn but they can spawn at boar runes within that distance but only once
Ya I think I probably killed then early game so Iβll need to sail to different islands to find any I guess
will an Asksvin egg hatch outside Ashlands?
i think it should π€ not 100% certain tho
You can haul those bastards across the ocean w harpoon too, if you so choose
also fyi, the boars that spawn around runestones will always try to go back to the runestone if you take them away, so its best to breed a few there first
Same w wolves, also wolves spawned at night will despawn. Gotta tame them in mountains and not leave them, for like 2 days or so
one day and night, taming takes 30 minutes
Unless you interrupt taming process
also if you start taming they will not despawn π anywhere they are, not only mountains
If you leave them Iβm pretty sure they would. ONLY if they spawned at night tho
Thatβs the big diff imo
not if the taming started, one piece of food lasts for 10 minutes so you are safe for at least that amount of time
Mkay, that tidbit is new to me. Good to knowπ
A pit is best for taming anything like boars wolves and the umm muffalo (rimworld) lol
They will tear apart structures and never calm down cuz youβre spending time in close proximity to repair
Stone is ok if itβs super thick, just not worth it
Also.. best to have that enclosure or pit setup before hand if solo.
@hot bolt
what is up with the abomination ai? as soon as you get out of attakc range they just fucking book it away from you
i had one sprint up a sheer cliff into a mountain as i was desparately running after it, it attacked me maybe 3 times
Up a cliff? Lol
Likely just a result of them trying to avoid mobs standing in place getting shot to pieces by bow. So some of them tries to get away if they can't reach you.
That could be.
If you havnt tried it yet.. the surtling spawns are great to shred them
Whenever I find a few S spawners in a cluster.. Iβll setup portal w walls n level the SH out of the area. And it can double as an Abom farm too
Surtlings instantly explode on water of course for those who donβt know.
And if you work it right can keep an abomination sitting in flames til he explodes lol
But as for your original Q. Again I bring up the harpoon. Buuut that may not help if heβs dead set at running away when your solo
@ember kraken
?
Was curious why you pinged me?
Because it was relevant to you, trying to better answer your issue
I didn't have an issue, I was just explaining the likely reason to the behaviour to another user.
anyone else feel guilty when using no portal restrictions? I know its just a game and i can play how I want but something feels wrong about it lol
Naah, not at all. I've played through the game several times now, some with normal portal restrictions, and more without. I've done it the normal way, and when playing solo I just can't be arsed to do that again.
I do actually enjoy the restriction when playing multi though.
probably cause thats not how the game was made and in aslands you get a new portal which lets you portal metals but is now useless to u
and the game is not competetive so it's not cheating as it's just you and your world, you can play it the way you wan π
true, i just made a new world and i put raids off and death penalty to skills only lost a very little
Yes you should feel guilty, Odin is very disappointed in you
Itβs that kind of comment from the Valheim community making you feel that way π
was it that u can only catch serpents on a storm ?
they spawn during storms and remain untill killed
other serpents i beleive spawn during the night (if not a storm)and despawn at day
lets see what the drakepuncher says
yep, serpents spawn during nights and storms in full ocean biome, the storm spawned ones can remain around indefinetly
appreciated
played 90 hours of valheim still cant find a leviathan
I think they spawn at a certain radius away from spawn, so you could try to sail in one direction straight ! π
man this game has become my fav comfy game
just the vibe alone often is immaculate
Totally agree !
we have a nice little draugr esque village on a shore on this playthrough
they dont have a set radius i believe, the only requirements are full Osean zone and 30+ meters of depth π
oh and its kinda funny how we was both dying to have mods for some freshness of gameplay but that just made us appreciate the vanilla game so so so much more
its like, at some point in modding u start thinking about the game like a dev, not like a player and thats an issue
Aaah yeah might be an unintended radius since spawn is elevated ^^
Some mods go waaaaay too far into extra content tho it's hilarious π₯²
It's like playing skyrim with 500 mods ahah
In case you didn't know map generation isn't actually completly random, it comes from a unique master map, and since they wanted the spawn to have bigger islands they just make elevation on a radius around spawn higher than the rest of the map, which has the added side effect of shallower oceans.
Hence my comment π
oh i knew it was not completly random π but i never really got to specifics of how it is generated
Yeah I went in depth one night, was curious π
They used ingenious technics like that
if you generate enough worlds you will notice a star like pattern of meadows around the spawn π
oh yes, i know the map of biome generation π but i really dont know anything about height map
The master map btw π
I'm lucky enough to have the second tallest mountain on my current playthrough π
does that mean you can have a starting island with spawn right next to the second or third biggest mountain?
Technically yes, but the way the map is generated after a central point is picked will flatten the spawn area if I'm correct, so it might not reach that max height π
ahh
But it's kinda funny to try and locate your seed's map on that master map π
and then the land near ashlands get lowered so that you always have to sail i asume?
I'm pretty sure they completly changed how ashlands are generated from the rest of the game.
I make that assumption because from all the map's I've seen from other players, ashlands will always have a big central island with smaller islands on the east and west !
Plus ashlands as some low max height, where big mountains would otherwise be ^^
hmm, the map seems to have few mistakes tho, like rivers where they shouldnt be, one should be going through my starter island, but that might be because of the "flattening" of starting area π€
also aparently i have the second tallest also XD
Yup !
It does both flatten max height and min height, which results in larger islands
is the master map remade each major update?
nope, same since launch !
strugeling to find a area i once found where a mistland was in the midle sorrounded by mountain that went all the way around it and stretching abit down
Although like I said they did change how ashlands are generated, they're probably either using a different new master map exclusively for ashlands or just use something to generate the shapes from seed, don't know ^^
the biomes on the map are not entirely accurate, try looking for shapes
This ^
Master map gives shapes, more than specific biomes
ohh so i can't count on the mountain biome either as the elevation can be lower or higher then?
mountains should be mostly the same
From what I remember it fluctuates a little based on seed, but overall tall mountains will be tall π
hmm
And I can confirm the second tallest mountain breaks the cloud barrier on my world ! π
me too π
litterally had one right outside my spawn island
Might just be a rare occurrence of ocean being deep enough near spawn π€
That being said I've never had trouble finding leviathans, I have so many on my map π₯²
i also have like 5 around the starter island π
Aaaaah found what I was looking for ! π
If you guys are interested in how map generation is done using seed based mechanics have a look at that blog post, it's from another game (factorio) but the concepts are the same really ! π
the one single serpent i had is on the shortest route from my starter island to the big island next door which has a swamp and the lightning deer and elder and bonemas spawns
I'm playing here with game music muted, and a medieval playlist on background. I arrived in the mountain, and started the music "Far over misty montain cold" π
its a shame i never really got into factorio, huh
It's an amazing game really, plus expansion coming soon ! π
But it is very niche, so yeah π
am planning a challenge run, no map etc. got any ideas for good rules?
might be me + few others
i cant stand those kind of games π π my adhd wont let my autism to get into it
i simply get too frustrated trying to figure out how to best set it up and then leave and play something simpler
Actually late game it kinda becomes soothing, just make a HUGE factory that is made from equally sized squares and all that jazz π
But but ... The factory must grow ?
just the aesthetic alone gives me an anneurysm π
Oh well π₯²
I have screenshots from my factorio base that would probably make you go insane then x)
i wish you could drop explosive payload on the ground and blow it up like the unstable lava rocks
when is the ashland nerf coming to live servers?
no official date
They gonna nerf Ashlandβs?
Yes, pretty heavy nerf on spawn rates :/
Happens every time they make a biome good. π€·ββοΈ
I wouldn't mind if they added a spawn rate slider instead of just straight up nerfing the biome, but oh well
same type of players that would play eldenring(dark souls) and complain its hard till it gets nerfed
so far the only nerfs were either to balance batshit broken stuff or to fix unintended effects
such as a certain albinaruic bumrushing you so hard half the bloodstains of the fight were in front of the fogwall
the only other "nerf" was og radahn, but he literally had broken hitboxes
oh if u play in vanilla with more ppl is the base setting "player based progression" ? aka u gotta be present for the boss kill ?
you gotta kill/injure the boss idk if just being present is enough
the game is trying very hard to not give me iron. 3/4 swamps had no crypts. next swamp, finally find a crypt: 17 iron. lol
well yeah thats what i meant
be part of the kill etc.
ok yeah
thxxx
ngl sometimes i feel like i should have multiple runs going at the same time
oh and no the base setting isnt player based raids iirc
vanilla is that whole world is affected by boss kills, player based raids changes it from "this world has these bosses killed" to "this player picked up drops from these bosses" when checking what raids to give you
so if someone kills a boss everybody gets the progression from it ?
ooooh ok ok, its from the sliderz
with out that setting yes
but not all of you get items from it, you have to be in vicinity for that (at least for bosses that dont give fixed ammount of drops)
man sometimes being able to recycle would be sooooooo nice
whats the point of a 2h wpn if its hits same dmg as a 1h? π
which weapon do you mean?
those are also 2 handed π
Whatβs the 1-handed weapon that hits the same as the battleaxe?
swords ?
The silver sword does less damage, uses a different skill and has different knockback and stagger multipliers for the secondary attack
susge
did they increase the number of tetra fish structure spawns
i do not think so, at least not recently
What are tetra fish
A type of fish
yes, the floor is made of floor
why do we not have a 4x2 black marble piece?
Huh, so it's just a fish with nothing special about it other than rarity (fishing hat I guess)? I found a Tetra fish that was just lying on a mountainside that I could pick up, but I didn't take it as picking it up didn't unlock any recipes and thought meh just a fish.
Thats basically it π
bleh. this swamp, which i had high hopes for, gave me only two crypts and 3.5 stacks of iron. maybe i'll give up on iron for now. i guess i can move on with what i have.
you really are unlucky with iron huh
yeah, this map has been horrible for crypts.
i've explored 5 swamps. none of them ending up very big, and only 2 have had crypts, 5 crypts total
Bonemass is in a different swamp that i haven't explored yet, a small boat ride from the swamp i currently have the 3.5 stacks parked at. So i could potentially just say "screw it", and go kill him with my current load out, and hope the swamp he's in is good
my new map doesn't suffer from this, but my last map mostly had very small strips of swamp and it took forever to find a good one
Yeah. Crypts aren't created on edges. You need some depth
as i tried to clear a rock out of a river, a "helpful" troll showed up
see they're not all bad. idk why everyone always just kills them....
ohhhh maybe i should fill my moat with trolls
i dont always "just kill them", i also use them for mining and choping sometimes before i kill them π
if i can't drag abominations into it that's what I'll do. trolls.
yeah, the troll did help me clear the rock. and then i killed him
i need him for this next rock though, lol. this river was maybe a bade choice
so much killing. why can't we all just get alloonnggg
i need troll armor π
lol again?
oh no, i mean at the beginning π
this river journey has attacted yet another troll
see, rivers are funnn
YAY, free labor!! π
with a big log this time. now he's dead π¦
i was in an awkward spot with bad food, so i didn't put him to use
again with the killing :/
U can always have very easy difficulty for neutral mobs :p
pffft
next challenge: no-kill run
thats possible i think.. if u tame wolves at the start
and let the wolves do the killing
i mean... the objective of this game is killing π
altho.. idk how would u get the meat for wolves
i thought this was a farming sim... wait do i hear another troll?
maybe lure some mobs to kill some animals
nahhhh the objective is getting to the end
i bet it's possible to only kill bosses
objective is to kill all the Forsaken to get to Valhalla π
and i'm out of the river and back in the ocean
why am i not automatically picking up items anymore?
v
press V
oh shit ty guys
yeahbut. what if you only kill forsaken and not the friendly things, like trolls, and deer, and mosquitoes...
i think your definition of "friendly" is a bit off my friend XD
Hello - new here; picked up Valheim during the Steam summer sale recently and I'm completely hooked. Doing my first full playthrough now. Building a main base in a Meadows near Black Forest and Swamp, near enough to Mountains. So I'm mining in the Black Forest, no Trolls for days until someone here mentions them π
you have made an exceedingly wise decision. π
i am new to valheim anyone want to play a new world and have fun
#1024264966712340510 π
that is the risk of coming here XD
alright. iron transport successful, despite a hazardous river traversal and 2 trolls
i should probably go back to that river at some point and clear a couple more rocks though. or maybe skip it next time π
you should make your next base only accessible by river.
oh the pain
doooo iiittttt
Question, wanna make sure i get this right before posting in suggestions
How is the save game system working ? Like, at regular timings (most of the time the beginning of the day) you get an auto save done. Then an auto save is made when quitting the lobby. Then you have a menu for characters and worlds for their saves. But if you go check it out (for science purpose, not because we died at the end of the wolrd with no easy way back...) they don't match at all. So during a session, autosaves keep overriding themselves until you quit the session, and when you quit there is no option to say "don't autosave".
Am i missing something ? That looks either like a bug or a really bad design choice
I wish the map changed when you removed trees or changed the terrain or built stuff
some one to defeat the Fader
ithink "don't autosave" would be a strange, bad design choice for a survival game... having easy access to the backups even seems questionable. opens the door to basically save-scumming, and some games are designed that way for a reason, and others not, for a reason...like if you're playing a soulslike and alt+f4 every time you die, then..uh...play a different game
valheim was designed to have a repercussion if you sail off the edge of the world. (shrug) imean it sucks, but....gear can be remade..
they don't override themselves
also, several survival games do immediately save upon death wiping out your character/world entirely. the stakes in valheim are comparatively pretty low
are you sure about that ? You get the warning about every 30 min, and checking the save tree it was 1h48 that got lost
also iguess I'm unsure if you fell off the edge of the world or just died really far from home? in which case, that's why we have portals..
they don't overwrite themselves immediately I guess I should say -- there are several backups on my characters/worlds
My worlds know how to back it up for real
well i was in mistland, moving my portal, and stumbled onto an angry dwergr mage. i didn't know the fire would be 50 fire damage for at least 3 ticks, you're just dead without your portal, and your boat docked on another island with most your quality gear. That'd be hours to get back what an auto save would save you with less stress in < 30 min
ohhh. game saves every 30 minutes, but those saves aren't pushed to the backup file every time. when loading a backup file you will go back a few saves, yes. and this doesn't seem like a bad design choice, it's a good one. if a save corrupts, you want backup to be a few saves before that
ahh. i never move my only portal in an area. i put up a new one (or two) first, always.
like I mentioned before -- those are pretty low stakes compared to other games. think of it as a new mission or side quest or something
imo the purpose of the auto save is not save-scumming, just mitigate errors where you couldn't know
So imo each autosave should be a different save, tagged as such in the name of the save. Such as
World_X_Day_Y_Autosave_.Timestamp
World_X_Day_Y_Exit_Timestamp
Not that I die much but I do always try to consider the possibility of death and am constantly preparing to make retrieval as painless as possible in the event of spontaneously ceasing to live. Lesson learned from some painful experiences π¦
well if a save corrupts you're screwed anyway because when you leave the server, it will be saved to file in a corrupt state
you are meant to die throughout the course of the game, and come back having learned something from those deaths
so how are you supposed to see in mistlands?
I placed 15 of those wisp torches and they do nothing, I cant see 2m
was the next bow after dragrfang the mistlands bow ?
spinesnap, yes
I cant even see ticks that are on my character
....and that's why the backup saves are from earlier. so youre not screwed. you just lose an hour instead of 500
that's the neat part, you don't
so fighting gjalls is impossible
did you beat Yagluth yet?
cuz I cant even see the ticks that jump onto me, cant kill them
wisplight, wisp torches, and mistwalker all clear a bit of the mist away
they dont though
stop drop and roll
like I said, I placed 10 in close proximity to each other, spaced a few meters, and the mist is still completely blocking my vision
i didn't say anything about deleting saves, i have no idea how you can get to this conclusion. Just asking for each save to be serialized is all, would make more sense. If i see an auto save i expect to be able to load an autosave, it's simple as that. But the fact is it's not possible, saves don't match what the UI tells you during the game
might ask in #mods-discussion for a save-scum mod
i didn't either. go back and read more carefully?
the saves only matter if the game crashes right? i'm confused by this discussion, as I've never had any issue with saves before.
you're saying you don't want anything done on autosave feature because you're expect to die regularly and having to deal with it, and you're afraid of corruption on saves. And that you believe "using" the save system, which is already developed in the game, is save scumming
i'm saying it's a bug that auto saves don't match what can be seen in the save menu and that you cannot reload any save when the game chose to save. Which is the opposite of save scumming. So you're set back multiple days when in theory auto save would indicate you lose max 1 day
im not saying that and asserting that i am instead of asking if i am is the problem here. go. back. and. read.
#valheim-chat message
auto save and backup are not the same thing.
for a reason.
i hate the mistlands with a passion cant see shitt and 2 star seekers just pull up on you and pretty much one shot you while fighting a gjall that you cant see either
do you have the wisp?it not mutch but its better then nothing
ye i have the wisp and the best gear from plains but still doesnt cut it for the infested caves
doesnt cut it outside the ccave either
what weapon your using ?
lvl 4 black metal sword
you can do it, but have to adapt your tactics. listen more than look, choose where you fight, dodge more than tank, etc...
i guess it's as simple as disagreeing on that
Any other game i know which uses autosave is save that is actually loadable (comparing any RPG game)
that's...not subjective. they are not the same thing.
and this is not an rpg. compare valheim to the save system in a soulslike.
at the end of the day, you can play the game however you want. if you think the auto-save system is broken, you can open a bug. however, the intent is to save corrupted games, not recover from a mistake and save time. So it doesn't matter what anyone here really thinks, it's if the devs think what you're saying is true or not.
they way a game like valheim works, you can't just autosave the world state every x minutes. you'd have to save the entire world. it's not reasonable like it is for an rpg. the way save/autosave/backup works is as close to ideal as you can get
I've just recently made it to the mistlands as well and felt the same way at first. I found some success using the frostner. The slow effect really comes in handy when you're getting overwhelmed. That and parrying has really helped me deal with the stronger enemies
dont go at night then?
This game produces saves that are load able. I don't think anyone would play if it didn't.
you are able to one shot staggered seeker with secondary attack, or 2-3 normal attacks, thats pretty good if you ask me
Not 2 star seeker tho they able to stagger me then 2 shot meπ
you dont have to deal with those if you dont go at night π (also you should have bonemass with you)
at day max is 1 star and with bonemass those are basically the same as 0 stars (well a bit stronger but also easy)
Does it matter if its night time in the caves tho? Cuss thats where hes currently sitting
I've spent about 10-12 hours in Ashlands (late start) and I finally got to a point where I have been able to mine some Flametal. I've noticed that some of the veins are quite far into the lava... is there something I am missing here? I have found a few others that are closer which I have been able to safely get to.
oh in mine? yeah, those can be annoying, i advise to use bombs
they are suposed to be pretty far in the lava field
have you made basalt bombs yet?
Not yet, no
Ooh i havent thought of that. I just need the cores from the mine but the 2 star straight up destroyed me right as i tried blocking his attack
they are your friends.
yeah, they tend to do that, even with bonemass, thats why i sugest using bombs, they are op as heck π
eh, they're terrible friends at best, who'll leave you in the lurch at a moments notice
well its not that surprising considering you have thrown them into lava XD
For the veins that are far into the lava field, is there a trick? The lava eats me alive and I've tried building pseudo bridges but they all get destroyed. If it is close enough I can manage with just building a one way bridge each way
better friends than those jumping lava balls
the basalt bombs that were mentioned will help you π
I suppose I should read item descriptions...
Throw a basalt bomb in the lava and you will see the way
my mate completely underestimated a seeker soldier, got 1 shot
had to solo him for 4 min till he died
1 shot? what gear did he have?
max padded armor
yeahhh soldiers are fun
1 star soldier just does 150 damage
that doesent seem right... are you plaing with increased difficulty?
no
oh, one star, that makes sense then π
in the middle of the fight 2 normal seeker joined in
was rough, im on fenris armor and use blackmetal knife
XD sounds like a party
Is there a way to hoe the ground to the same level?
Sometime the ground is too curve and I added stone to increase the height and flat it again. Then ends up the ground is not completely flat
leveling ground will try to level it to the same height ground is where you're standing. so don't move at first, click all around your feet then in bigger circles
okay, wolf in pit with meat, covered and portected
i considered trying to do this at night, but my little guy would get wrecked by starred wolves. lol
just dont get hit XD
So basically I should check if all the ground I need are completely flat using hoe before I build?
i got hit a bunch trying to kick that guy into the whole
got one shot by another 1 star soldier that appeared, didnt care that I had 180 hp :)
they are just so insanely commonplace
yeah mostly level makes it easier
i wish. soon you'll be hunting for them
3rd 1 star soldier appeared
why would I, they are everywhere. its like greydwarves
i am not sure if you are really lucky or unlucky XD
since they 1 shot unless I activate bonemass, and bonemass has cd... I think unlucky
Itβs lucky if you need more mandibles, but I donβt remember needing them for much
And only unlucky if you get hit
true
when im sailign and motor ability turns off (the wind is facing directly towards me)
mandibles. and trophies, if you want the queen's head in your house.
oh she does speak
i always need mandibles.
What for? I havenβt been in mistlands for almost a year
himminafl, spear, helm..
and thats pretty much all π
i dislike drakes
ive ended up needing for like 3 of each +upgrades for myself, friend, and an alt. iirc i still need one more soldier to finish the upgrades -.-
Soldier trophies are also useful for resummoning the queen
queen is ugly ngl
i need to put queen head above charred body/legs. need.
I just started the game and I finished the first boss how should I prepare for the Black Forest?
finewood bow, fire arrows
forest is where you really start preparing
also flint axe and upgraded club
Thanks π
Level 3 shield (normal or tower, both are good), level 3 flint weapon and beehives is all you really need
i would sugest round shield, it will let you learn to parry π
or abyssal razor :3
knives are easy mode tho
That would mean using a raft
abyssal razor is kinda swamp level
Itβs swamp tier but can be made early
in my current world I have bronze buckler, razor and finewood bow before any boss
just cuz I can, I wish they had left a loophole for blackmetal too
I think the midpoint of the game is the perfect spot for a boss like Moder who locks so much content
the dream of a no boss to max gear run π
lets not spoil too much for them guys π
No kills and no skills run
and if a wolf or lox happens to get out of its pen and happens to leave 300 blackmetal at my door...well, that just happens to have happened
doable.
imean probably not by me, but...im sure someone can
my buddy told me someone recently beat elden ring using a ddr dance pad as a controller.
pretty sure a no kill val run would be easier than that
indirect kills only
Pickaxes only
early on you kill stuff with fire, then get wolves
right. falling trees, acceptable. kiting a lox into forest for troll hide, acceptable.
yessssss fire spread
ngl this also sounds super fun
I would try it but none of my friends want to and I donβt like singleplayer
I might do a run where I give myself 2 tears and then do a bossless run
and the stuff for the press
dooo iittttttt
What would the goal be in bossless? All enemy trophies?
With bosses the goal is to get their trophies so this would work well
dyrnwyn
first shot at looking for wolf2 fails. but i did find another frost cave for later. so that's something
Have a server where you never get raided?
Just turn raids off then.
ehhh, that's easy, just turn off raids or make a new world and bring boss trophies in
Boss trophies donβt affect raids, the boss needs to die in that world
how come dwarven wards protect buildings, but the player wards dont?
They donβt protect buildings, they just anger the dvergr
they function exactly the same
they seemed to activate whenever a fuling hit stuff near it earlier
yes, thats how player built one works too, it alerts you (or dvergr) if something within its area of effect is damaged
aah
you did activate the ones you built, did you?
oh! so, once my friend was chopping something (rock or a tree?) near an outpost once and they got all riled up. is that a thing
yep
harsh
If itβs in range of the ward, it belongs to the dvergr
hey guys i was looking for the headstone recovery service my girlfriend and i just lost like everything we had to moder, i have a teleport from spawn to my base which is like a 5 minute sail to the shore all our stuff is on. can anyone point me in the right direction?
lol i kept sayin "okay, we want to keep them friendly for now, so no funny business." and then he got fire staff. goes up to top of rock. shoots into the mist in all directions.
..mf.
good idea to try and get a portal up closer, anyway/meantime. I'd help myself but don't have solid internet atm π¬
thank u i just found that server on reddit too!! and yeah she completely destroyed our fob
we were fighting her on the shore between a swamp and mistlands, i had her to literally like a fingernail of hp and my bonemass buff wore off and died to draugr arrows π¦
XD yeah i gave up tying to keep portal super close, the one i have for her now is a minute's run down the mountain
oof. that's some bad luck
Hello, what is the current latest version of Valheim server?
Is it: 14674300?
what server? current version of the game is 0.218.19 if thats what you are after
it was a minutes run down the mountain and she just camps it its all the way on the shore π¦
π€ did she follow you there?
yeah yesterday she went down and destroyed it but i was able to lose aggro and rebuild it and then today when we went back she was just chillin on the side of the mountain ready to fuck it up again
alright, wolf2 in a pit being tamed. phew
i do recommend 2+ portals in any sensitive area. in ashlands, i dont trust any area that has less than 3, because 2 can (and do) break from some random thing at the same time.
my gf suggested that and just saw you type that and gave me a mean look
Thank you. I can't see the game version in the Linux server update message
we will def do that tho, hopefully brs works for us
Covered portals and benches typically survive pretty well because they don't aggro anything
I posted the server message in #screenshots
I don't know if we have the latest version of Valheim installed
π€£ ...sometimes it's overkill. but when you hit that 5-10%, it's often worth the "overly cautious" habit
You can cover a portal and workbench with like a single stack of wood (grausten in the Ashland)
when ark survival first came out it was so brutal (nothing like it is now), i developed deep-seated redundancy/contingency habits
there is not really any info on the version there, you could try to click the "more info " button
Seems a bit low for the mistlands, no?
the one time 2 broke at once, one was to the asksvin/charred chasing me, the other was ithink a morgen that got mad at some random thing like 60m away
hell, i have 58 armor and i haven't killed bonemass yet
fenris is the winner. always and forever. eventually you just add ashen cape. js.
ask set and cape are also awesome π
i don't think i'm particularly good at this game, so i would probably wear heavier armor at that point to be able to take a hit
Has anyone ever had an occurrence where they can't find one shop, but they find the plains shop, instead?
the hp? we dont have mistlands food yet
and armor I got to wait until we get the eitr armor
yeah you can't fight near them, that defeats the purpose. enclose/hide them and avoid coming back to it while being followed
and I mean I can't find the Black Forest shop at all... Not on four stretches of land.
Think they meant your armor value
It seems like the server we are trying to connect to has the 11 June build
https://steamdb.info/app/896660/patchnotes/ BuildID: 14674300
Is it possible to downgrade our Valheim version to match 11th of June build?
my fenris armor is at max
you're not supposed to get hit in fenris armor
well there is no trader in plains, but Hildir is pretty often right next to plains and sometimes appear sitting right in them π
since you are chronically out of stamina, its hard to avoid
stamina meads dont cut it and are too expensive long term
.> The shop I am referring to has a clothes sign and not a money pot sign though
~.~ all it has is furniture and clothes
rest breaks are pretty easy, but also stamina meads (of all sorts) are really quite cheap
But have you tried the lingering stam ones you get from the royal jelly in the mistlands dungeons? Those are the best
no fishing pole T.T or belt
yep, thats Hildir π if you want Haldor you have to look through Black Forest π
but I've been to four main stretches of land with Black Forest and he's nowhere
like I already said, we dont have mistlands food
i been rockin ask set and ashen cape when im lookin for a tussle
1star seekers and soldiers are a constant situation
@merry pebble is it normal for him to be so far away from the first boss????
I found him on my main game on the main island
you will soon ascend, little grasshopper. embrace the fenris within!
well first boss is in meadows, so yes?
if you need some additional muscle I'm willing to hop in, just send me a dm
~.~ I don't know where else to look for him...
Well if you can get some of the mistlands mushrooms strewn about and set up a little farm somewhere you could have mistlands food
and I didn't see any other land formations.
usually its a good idea and sail around islands with black forest
I've always found haldor by just sailing around the starting island / islands neighboring the starting one
I'm afraid to get on a boat without any idea of where to find land though... ~.~ I seriously don't see anything else anywhere nearby.
9/10 times he's next to the elder
yeah the morgen side-rolled into it, i was barely close enough to see it
or fairly close to elder π
Do you have portal materials?
I already went to the elder's island. That's where I found the other shop.@hidden gorge
@sharp raptor No I don't have portals yet.
thats what we are doing. we just got to mistlands and already fought 5 1 star soldiers and 3 1 star seekers
did you circle around it? or found a vesivigr and beelined it directly towards him?
we tried to make a farm on raised ground, but apparently you cant do that?
you can, but not all mistlands ground is suitable for farming
I have almost 3k coins from looking around ~.~ but no shop to use them... I mean maybe I could tow the furniture back but good grief...
has to be a grassy area
Might I recommend collecting said materials? Its good practice to have a portal ready to get back to base when going on a journey of unknown length
@hidden gorge hang on I can take a few photos, but I'll have to post it in a different tab.
i recently explored like 4-5 full islands before i found. but, you really should get portals first
+1 to portals before sailing.
my "portal room" is bigger than my whole house.. π¬
@grand ravine I'm going to try to get portals, but I still want someone to look at my map
hahah. i don't have a portal tower in this game yet, but i'm sure i'll have one. right now i have all my balcony space being used for portals
T.T I feel like I'm in a frozen abyss with this one.
lets have a look! π
Ok everyone it's in the screenshot tab
π¦ tell me what you think cause I'm confuzzled.
ithink i have like 18. and that's just my small spawn starter hut...i just picked a spot for my real first base
nice! only have 12 end points so far. not all of them are permanently linked. like my Hildr one
i keep them in a note, plus the map
What up yβall, Iβm sure itβs been discussed somewhere but are there any cool role playing servers? Looking to try something new
i have ithink almost 30 endpoints o.o
@grand ravine @hidden gorge what do you think did you go look in screenshots? am I boned ~.~?
i bow to your superiority lol. i just got to the point where i'm dropping endpoints on random landmasses for convenience
helps for minimizing sailing distance when exploring
you just need to keep looking. the "shrine???" marker looks like just about as close as I'd expect it to be. i would set a portal around there and then search west, southwest, south, southeast from there (including across ocean)
lol superiority or compulsion?
A couple of those land masses have land bridges that are natural. I didn't have to sail to them
No matter which way I look around the main island though >.> not seeing any other land nearby at all
@grand ravine do you think there might be something hidden in the middle?
well, for someone with similar compulsions, i'm going to say "superiority"
yeah chances are you'll have to sail. but explore forests well, so that only small strips are still hidden. but my gut says he won't be much closer to spawn than hildir or the "shrine???" marker
i chop a lotta birch. >.>
It's marked like that because that's where I picked up the Elder's trail
It's a stone house with skeletons and a rune board
I didn't know what to label that x.x
yeah, i'm low on birch too. and speaking of compulsions, i just tamed that second wolf. time to take him home
.> you can already tame things ~.~ congrats you must be able to go to a mountain, without freezing.
they're called vegvisir, but i knew what it was π
i've got some meads, but i'm squishy still
i would start by going from that one though, myself. west first for a ways. then southwest
meh mountain's tend to make you feel squishy until your in full silver
Even with Hammer Mode, I spent 38 days looking around, before putting down a home. T.T I didn't want to be too far away from a copper mine...
And I'm in hammer mode for a reason on this map >.> Stress Relief. I like to build.
ngl I might go hammer mode soon too, farming materials is annoying
after i built a house and got copper, i went looking, and it was ithink something like day 70 i found him. you're doin fine π
I cleared an entire plains, over 10 monoliths and a yagluth spawn. all stone gone in minutes
π³ um would you like me to take some screenies of my village? I'm still building, but I think I've had way too much fun with it.
yeah lets see!
wooo hooo. finally. 2 wolves up in the breeder tower, penned in, and meat stacks placed correctly. I wait for the first baby wolf to drop 12 meters into his new home lol
and there he is!
awawa
Funny thing is I'm working on a storage house near the water that could act as a boat house/rest stop.
I still farm all my materials. I just have a separate server set to 2X resources to make the grind easier
Kinda wish the two-handed weapons had a better parry bonus.
@sharp raptor I still farm on my main play server, but Fun Land is just for stress relief. It was getting overwhelming having to find copper in my main server.
And I mark pretty much anything and everything as I go. I just wasn't finding anything nearby at all.
Mistlands really is an incredible source of copper. Can collect multiple stacks just by taking a battering ram to a dwarf tower
I even put the monsters on passive on Fun Land just so I could scout a good location.
@sharp raptor I haven't come into contact with any Mistlands. The only areas I have seen are the swamp, mountains, ocean, meadows, plains, and black forest.
Which I don't understand the T.T swamp there's like nothing to gather there and it's always dark and raining there.
Legit afraid of that area atm. I'm pretty sure the monsters there could one shot me, if they weren't passive π
not at all -- I might try the island east of the starting one, since it wasn't on the west (and if that doesn't work, north/south are 95% likely to have it by then)
you need to find a bigger swamp area with crypts, and a key from second boss
true that
@hidden gorge o.o I'll try to make a rest stop with a dock in those locations.
@grand ravine Did you not see the huge swamp on the left island T.T I didn't even fully explore it, because I was scared XD
that's not a big swamp
It runs the whole middle of that part of the map though o.o I saw a couple of crypts I just turned off the markers on those.
ah, yeah the main thing you want from swamps is inside those
I'm back btw. My computer froze lol
@grand ravine There were some crypts in the north west corner of the swamp on what I have run so far.
^.^; sharing my fully marked map would make it to where you couldn't read it well.
but yeah I'll make a dock house up north and one down south, if I can find a spot south. There's a small swamp down there.
what is the yellow number next to the weapon on slash and block armor mean?
the value with your current skill level
Which boss is considered mid-game?
Base number + Skill modifier = Total Number (Yellow)
probably yagluth iguess?
Ah we never made it that far
After spending 80+ hours the furthest point we came was the third boss
so if the yellow number higher, the better????
We couldnt even kill it tho
Yes?
swamp boss? how many is "we?"
thanks!
The yellow number will always be higher. It cannot be lower.
cus the yellow number added with the passive or watever multiplier
Yes.
@grand ravine o.o if you are playing solo, do the bosses become too hard to handle then? Cause I'm only my little lonesome. I do have a Stag Hammer on my main server. Trying to get one for Funland atm.
each boss gets harder, and is different from the last. all can be done solo, though it may take some practice/trial-and-error
@grand ravine in other words put a rest point XD in the immediate area to run back?
i keep a couple portals nearby (but not so close that they are in the fight area)
@grand ravine I'll keep that in mind. I'll try to keep everything back a fair distance. Even the deer made a mess in my main server. Although, I did get free birch from him ^.^ that way. Gotta head off Discord for a while. I hope I see you again, sometime in the future.
is no kill drain after death mean no exp lose at all? i set the death panelty to casual
Yes.
Yes swamp
7
try again! i recommend taking good upgraded armour and maces, and poison meads.
That group will probably never come back together
We were in fact playing as a trio but decided to call friends
you can do it yourself
doh. one wolf got "stuck" and wouldn't eat again until i re-placed his meat. i built fenris chest, but dang, i need more wolf fur to upgrade
what are people's thoughts on the huntmen bow? is the stealth archer thing worthwhile? still sitting at finewood bow, and i'm a ways away from getting silver
I keep finewood until Draugr Fang. Then I usually don't upgrade bow again until Ashlands.
if you're trying to not attract attention it's good even later. if you're using best available arrows, the bow doesn't matter as much as you might think, since damage is bow+arrow stats. if you don't mind making noise, finewood>draugr fang is also fine. i made all the bows and, tbh, after crude, you can use a bow from a couple biomes back without much drawback, if you're using good arrows (usually frost is de facto)
the stealth thing probably fits more into my play style, since i tend to use arrows only to pull and break up groups
As our group's hunter, I love the huntsman bow.
seems like a good use of 20 iron. i have 117 at the moment
None of the enemies attack bosses
Its difficult finding a cultist trophy huh
sometimes. it's a drop chance, so sometimes you kill one cultist and it drops, sometimes it's ...alotmore than one
I was just saying it cuz I've been to like 14 frost caves now
yeah I've done 20 caves but no trophy too
The luck to get more than one, I need
the headpiece is the only missing thing but I've given up since it looks like the armor the helmet gives is better
yeap it's all rng. personally i love frost caves so i would run a ton anyway though π€·ββοΈ
fenris hood worth it. imho.
I was thinking that I should keep trying for it
idk these little gremlins does a lot of damage
But really whats the point when root chest piece is better than the stat effects
I rock drake helm now (I just beat moder)
fenris set is my favourite. iloveit.
depends on the situation ithink.
but imean it's up to you, and padded armour isn't far
I just want to progress in the game how it should be
i wouldn't generally use root pieces past mountains
I don't see any use of the root chest honestly. In the plains the only one that does pierce are those mosquitoes and some spear fuling
I dont see any reason to fight for just those two when there are more enemies you can prepare for
Doesn't fenris set lack in armor points
it also lets you run away from just about anything. armour rating is less important when they can't hit you. (shrug)
valheim not have a brightness setting?
i don't believe so
Weβre at the Ashlands, and I have objectively βbetterβ armor than the Fenris set. Yet I am currently grinding my way through frost caves, in search of that hood!
when did they make barley drop 2 instead of 3 when you harvest it?
or has it always been that way
always been that way afaik
π€ iguess i never paid that much attention. i would think it's the same, but i suppose it's possible
are there any pvp servers
2 star boars are ridiculous. i have too much meat now, no more procreation!
i only have had a 1 star herd and it was great
i cant imagine what a 2 star would be like
i had a 1star, but then bumped into a 2star boar so decided to grab it. it's over the top
i have 7 chests full of meat now i think? and i'm solo. enough is enough
yeah, i just got some tamed wolves. regular 0 stars because i'm a wuss
my herd got massacred like a 100 in game days ago and havent found a single 1 or 2 star piggy ever since
but now im really low on bear meat which ive been feeding my wolves
i just bumped into it. turns out it was from a boar runestone i hadn't found yet
btw the 1 and 2 star wolves only spawn at night if you want one
yeah, i haven't even beat bonemass yet. i'm not up for starred wolves
i think it might be time to kill him however
and i need to start getting some silver
oh, that reminds me. i need to setup an iron cooking thing to cook the wolf meat
dude, i just got a wraith trophy
omg you haven't made serpent stew yetttt
yeah, i haven't even killed a single serpent yet
im not even sure ive ever got one of those. is it awesome?
crap. this iron cooking thing is huge. i should just put it outside
okay, fine. i guess i'm adding a hearth to my cooking area and working on a better chimney
its not what i was expecting, but its still very cool and I will definitely hang it up somewhere
yea the smelters are huge
i have them all sitting outside my house
on the patio
forge and smelter outside, yeah. but iron cooking thing needs a double fire, and i want to put it in the my kitchen building
"iron cooking station"
oh yea those are a core piece of a kitchen imo
even tho i dont really have a designated kitchen area lol
i have a cooking house, where my cauldron, cooking station, fermenter, and all the storage for all the ingredients sits. near the boar/wolf farm
looks like a single 4x4 chimney can handle a hearth, thank god. so i don't need to tear up my roof
i finally picked a spot to set up a real base in solo world. now im going to try really hard to make this one ....less ugly.
have some 1star boars, haven't seen 2stars or lox very close, but for now there are wolves somewhat close and 1star boars will do okay. if i keep killin stuff a 2star might spawn (or I'll drag one later from the other island where ive seen a couple), and there ahoullllddd be lox in the bigger plains patch i haven't snuck through yet. the small patch is close and will be perfect for plainsfarm.
do you know how i can plant flax and barley to get more cuz every time i plant it i only get 1
so im not making any progress
space them more, if they are too close together then one of the two plants that are too close will die
ok thanks
i rage quit
good to know
11 53 am
is it usual for fader arena spawn right next to charred fortress?
theyre like almost touching eachother that close
tfw you finally start gathering Flametal and craft the Flametal spear... only to lose it in a lava field when throwing it at a Valkyrie. I literally can't find it anywhere
probably because items sink into the lava a bit and because the spear is so thin it becomes invisible
True.
Stupid spear that keeps throwing itself without the player not being involved at all in the throwing.
Why did they think that was a good mechanic? They should've given us the decision to throw it ourselves smh
Imagine devs personally entering in our games and deliberately losing our own spears.
That's kind of a dick move tbh
Actually me: βwell, Iβve not used the spear, but that seemsβ¦ ohβ¦ I think I understandβ¦β
I also think it was dumb that spear doesn't have poke reach and instead has that dumb hit down button, which makes it a very short ranged weapon. If it had long reach similar to atgeir, it would be a decent weapon of choice.
I guess someone would argue that its a melee/ranged hybrid and it would be too broken to have both, but given that most enemies resist pierce and there are weapons like the Axe that is both a weapon and a tool, i see no issue with it.
Only two things spear needs is much higher range and knockback
I only suggest the rework for its animation to just stab with it on primary attack and giving it a long range. Knockback doesn't feel like spear needs that. I'll make it to #suggestions
so... make them atgeir and replace the power attack
I think a lot of what I don't like about the typical spear discussion is that it turns into "just makes spears into atgeirs"
Well its more like why spears were primarely used for in historical context before polearms. Spears were widely used due to reach and being cheap to make and it was the most common weapon used in battlefield. It was even a weapon of choice for god Odin which tells why spears are considered a battle field weapon.
Though the weird poking down at enemies might be a reference for historical paintings of normen attacking with the way its in the game, though most used spear to poke at enemies for affar before they got hit.
Rename Atgeirs into Spears, and rename Spears into Hunting Spears ?
Atgeir is a polearm, not a spear
Nah you get the naming a little bit wrong here, spears weren't exactly good for groups or crowds, atgeirs is more like a bladed polearm. Its usually that polearms have same reach as spear, but being almost a hybrid of spears and other sorts weapons.
There you go devs, just rename spears to "Beatstick" and everyone will be happy. Edit: Or even better, Pokestick!
well if we are talking about history of spears it would be good to mention that there is extremly many shapes and sizes of it, some shorter some longer (basically anything between javelin-throving spear / short spears that can be seen in africa and pike) and valheim one should have shorter range than atgeir since it is shorter
Atgeir is still a polearm, it's not used like a spear.
eh? i didnt say it was
and btw, spear is also type of polearm π (in reality ofc, in game it makes sense it has its own category :))
I think the "hunting spear" we got makes sense, as if you wake up in a new world with no tools etc, I'd have more need for a hunting spear than a combat spear. So to me it felt natural that we got the spear we got.
Could call it a javelin or whatever, isn't really that important.
the spear we get isnt very long in game makes sense its good for throwing while also being good at spear things
can you do a tower style farm with chickens??
In the sense that the dangerous bit is at the end of a pole, sure. But, practically, a spear is piercing only and a polearm has a slashing option.
i believe javelins were usually quite a bit smaller than what we have in game π
me points at FGM-148 Javelin missile :p (I think those things are closer to the size of the Stagbreaker? Not entirely sure...)
not really, polearm is a very broad category, it refers to a weapon that consists of a pole with some attachment at the end (usually some sort of spike or blade that can be more or less optimized for cutting or thrusting or hooking) also, quite a few spears were pretty good at cutting as well as thrusting π
yeah, i dont know how big are those XD
But yeah, spear is a very broad term, so it's going to cover a whole lot of different sizes and shapes and uses etc.
Practically anything from stone age hunting and fishing spears, and whatever else they used them for, probably crafted out of random length branches and stuff.
also, apparently, atgeir is a word pretty closely related to old norse "geirr" which means spear π
Heck, Chimps are registered to make "spears" to hunt with. I'm feeling an urge to dictate to them that they're doing spears "wrong" :p
Yes.
Nice Wikipedia-ing.
yep, last place i looked π
I would love a large ship, even the drakkar to be multi crew. Like helm + sails + oar roles. Does anyone know of a mod that tackle this?
quite possibly someone in #mods-discussion might know π
Well technically, when you find something, in most cases you stop looking. So where you found something will almost always be the last place you looked :p
well i was actually just looking up "viking spear" as a tangent for spears ability to cut, because they often had pretty wide and thin blades excelent for cutting, and i see an article that begins something like "Atgeir, also sometimes called hewing spear...." so i clicked and behold wikipedia page opened XD
but i personally would really not call atgeir as shown in game any kind of spear, if i wanted to compare it to something then probably bardiche
the blackmetal one to kind of a halbeard, but both of those are pretty broad catogories similar to spears sooo...
as someone predicted, after setting up my wolf farm... the a-wooooo is a litle much. i guess walls don't block sound? π
spears are also polearms, and are generally not used to stab the ground
I believe wiki says that tamed fully grown wolves don't howl, so you just have to stop feeding once you have "enough" adults. The pups aparently still howl.πΊ
aha, thanks. i still need plenty of fur and meat so i guess i'll just deal with it haha
speaking of noise, does anyone know how noisy staghammer is if i'm slamming the ground around the mountains? should i expect mobs to show up?
*digs around the internet
I think I remember seeing an webpage that listed noise ratings of certain activities and walking was the lowest and sneaking was 0. all others created enough sound to pull mobs/aggro to you.
active fights, mining and chopping wood were close to the same level, so I assume ground pounding with a hammer would be close.
i'll look for that. i'm guessing smashing the ground does make sound, yeah
this frost cave i'm in feels huge... ooo and there's a cultist door
lets see if smashing staghammer through the door attracts some attention...
lol and it's a tiny empty room nm
wood doors are fairly weak, so the AOE of the hammer may just break it.
same with bombs*
oh, snap, i forgot poison bombs
yeah, i smashed through the doors before. i was surprised
I learned the hard way with seekers and bombs. was tossing them into a room and it broke the barricade before I realized that wood could take poision damage.
seems weird. i mean, i know for ooze bombs there is a tiny amount of regular damage before the cloud. but poison shouldn't damage a door
ya, an odd decision for game mechanics, but I can see it as a, "you can't just poision/fire bomb a room to death without some kind of repercussion", reason
kinda like how stone and marble have different stats when they are effectively the same material (the refinery will eventually destroy stone but marble is fine do it it resistances/immunities)
right
there are a bunch of little things like that all over the game. but you learn to live with them and use them to your advantage as time goes on.
Her tears can be used to build artisan tables
man the environmental sounds put me on so much edge. i really wish i could turn those off, but leave creature/other effects on
I could be wrong on this, but I think if you put "music" down to 0 and "effects" up to (whatever you want), you should loose the biome music and still hear the clashing of weapons, chopping of trees and the like.
sadly, that's what i have, set, and no
huh... I don't recall ever breaking a door with ooze bombs. are you sure doors take poison damage?
whoah, this is a big drop i just found, eesh
I have had the fire damage from bilebombs definitely take down wood barricades before....I would have to test ooze specifically.
i just used an ooze through an ice barrier, and didn't see it take poison damage, anecdotally
oh, snap. an ice pond. going to have to come back with my fishing pole
actually, there were 3 tetra just lying next to the pool
but i guess i need 4 for hat eventually
that is very lucky. I think its something like 1% chance per world that a frostcave has a pond with fish.
it's balancing out that i haven't found a single cultist or shrine room with any fenris hair in this cave. and i think i've explored the whole thing. i'm doing another look around
yes, doors absolutely take fire damage, but not poison iirc. ooze bombs imo are much more effective in the mines -- I generally don't make bile bombs because the ember staff exists
infinite fireballs are better than expensive and limited ones
I tend to run meele so bombs were my only option for elemental AOE at range.
and good to know wood is immune to poision.
well crap. empty. i guess i should be happy about the fish.
they also benefit from sneak attack bonuses
oh, and you only need 1 of each fish. awesome. so i can store these tetra away and never worry about this again
now tetra is something I have yet to find :/
untill you have to find a beached magma fish that is
but dangit, i wanted some fenrish hair
you can now make 3 hats π
i'll set up shop next to Haldor and sell hats
no can do, merchant law states 1 merchant per biomeπ
i found trollfish the same way. just laying on the rocks near the ocean
aw-aw-aw-oo-oo-aw-oo-oooo
gata set up shop in another biome besides blackforest and meadows
i know it's cheesy, but is it still possible to stand on the Bonemass skull and just staghammer him to death without him being able to hit you? except by his poison?
it may be time to get silver
anyone who can let me join their worlds? wanna play with someone
you're likely to find someone in #1024264966712340510
oh thanks for that β€οΈ
need 1 fish ...for what?
1 of every fish to craft fishing hat
need 4 of each, ithink? 7 of each for max quality
looking at wiki. level 1 is 1x each. but yeah, adding up to 7 each for max quality
1 1 2 3
main world i found ithink 2-3 caves with ice ponds, and....yeah, I've got more tetra off the floor there than with a fishing pole :x ...infact prettysure i have more tetra than any other fiah
granted, it doesn't look like the effect is any different based on level. just armor
hmmm. i would swear i looked last week and wiki said 4+1+1+1. donno, havent made one yet. still need groupers iirc
wiki could be wrong. i just corrected onion soup recipe the other day
anyway yeah, I'd be fine with a lvl 1
tbf those types of errors are pretty rare π
totally, i was surprised too
waiting for bread be like π΄
what did the wiki say?
make some cannibal sausages while you wait for the bread or make some mead instead of canibal sausages
level 3 cauldron. but it needed only level 2
I bet that comes from the fact that its mountain tier
people just thought "its mountain, so surely you need butcher table"
or thats what it used to be before a update or patch lowered the level needed
was it a recent patch? i dont remember seeing anything about onion soup recentlyπ€ tho i can absolutely just not remember π
If you really struggle to find a dungeon that has a tetra lake, I recommend using the world map generator website.
Sure it's cheating but erh ... Up to you anyways π
nah, revealing the map and/or savescumming defeats the entire point of the game imo
I'm fairly sure that the caves are randomly generated as you enter them, thus you shouldn't be able to locate one with a specific feature from the webmap. I could be wrong, but from what I know of the system.
You are wrong, the option is there on the website and I've already used it effectively ^^
To each their own ! π
did moder drop anything else than the artisan stuff?
trophy
That's interesting, since that would mean that there would be different classifications of frost caves? What I've seen and tested with other "dungeons" is that I can get completely different result out of the same seed.
afaik valheim-map actually steps through generation. since dungeons are based on seed like everything else, it can be predicted
Every dungeon seems to be determined via seed since the web tool even lists the exact available items that are spawned in the dungeons (game developpement assets, not actual drops or loot, like icicles and whatnot)
That doesn't match what I've tested in the game, I've gotten different amounts of things like surtling cores, even none at all from the very same dungeon in different runs of the same seed. It's been a couple of years since I tested, has there been any changes to this ?
hmmm did the same dungeon locations have different layouts though? were all tests done on the same valheim version?
Yeah, different room layouts, and all.
was it in the same version?
Yup
if it has been years, then yes, more than likely. Ashlands threw a wrench in a lot of different things.
I was testing it because I was running a game with a friend in coop from their computer. And we found 4 burial chambers, and got iirc 5 or 6 surtling cores. Two of the dungeons had no surtling cores.
So when friend was offline I fired up the same seed and did a quick run to test, and got 12 in the first 2 dungeons.
id be more surprised if there were major difference, like vegvisir or tetra pond should be POI's and reliable
but yeah, valheim map shows tetra ponds with accuracy, one way or another π€·ββοΈ
I don't remember regarding vegvisirs (since I wasn't testing that). But considering dungeons should be randomly generated (separate of seed), I must admit I'm confused how the webmap can locate anything inside them. Unless for example frostcaves with tetra pond is registered as a own type of frostcave ?
idk that much about the particular mechanics in valheim. but as they're a poi like a beehive or boss altar, i assume if seed conditions are met, said poi is a requisite to other things around that location
Procedural generation is RNG but REPEATABLE RNG so it simply generates the POI exactly how the game does.
Wouldn't that mean that the seed would have to have information for placing specific poi's inside specific dungeons? I mean I'm sure this works, I'm just confused as to why, as this just seems weird from what I've experienced and read about it in the past.
(Btw, just noticed you spelled your username "teh".... now I can't unsee that.... I'm still cursing myself for doing that typo constantly!)
Seed based generation works by having a "randomiser" which uses the seed to randomise ... but predictably !
Which means anyone using your seed should see the same terrain and dungeon locations π
Minecraft is the exact same way.
generation is pseudorandom, it appears random but will always spit out the same series of values depending on what seed value it's given in the beginning. this is probably combined with another pseudorandom generator that uses a seed like, for example, your system's time, to increase the appearance of random
there could be multiple seeds -- dungeons don't necessarily need to be tied to the overworld map generation
hey
Also for that website I mentionned, you can actually drop your save and it analyses from that, so might be why it can tell me where in-dungeon items are located !
where do i look for builders?
I'm getting the feeling a lot of people are trying to explain me very different things here now.
whould be nice to play with someone
#1024264966712340510 π
Nah we're talking about the same system, tho differently.
Map is generated using a seed, which gives the appearance of randomness, but it is made in a way that anyone using the same seed will get the same results (like dungeons, biomes, boss stones locations and so on).
What @hidden gorge is saying is that actual interior of dungeons might be based on a seperate but invisible seed that could for instance be generated when the world is created. Thus resulting in your experiment with different dungeon interiors.
Hope that helps π
although I think it's more likely the dungeons would be seeded on first load, rather than world creation, but I haven't bothered to look at the code so no idea what it's actually doing
Same ahah
I'm quite familiar with how seeds work, and have run a lot of worlds, several on same seeds to test out differences. And also run same seeds over multiple versions to see differences. I've read up a good bit on seeds and how they work over the years.
I've also (as said above) tested a few times on running the same seed over (on same verion) and testing results in dungeons specifically, to test the random factor.
The only part I'm not understanding is that the way dungeons has behaved for me for years now is that they get randomly generated when you enter them the first time (or possibly after world creation). Thus by that theory there should be no way for the webmap to be able to track the content of a frost cave (tetra fish).
So I'm wondering how it tracks that. Since it looks like the frost caves with tetra fish on the webmap has the same designation as one without tetra fish.
I love the devs from factorio for that, they give so much indepth info on how they designed various aspects of the game on their FFF blog posts ! π
I mean, it's possible they changed the seed system to take that into account. I wouldn't know if they did that.
Interiors are definetly not generated on entry, most likely first world gen
For what?
hmmm what happen to #valheim-help ?
cuz thats what the spear moveset would look like with an actual hitbox
?
and its also why atgeir is kinda a straight upgrade xd
Having the atgeir twice would not solve anything.
And that's without mentioning the redundancy
it would be an atgeir with a ranged attack xd
we've got a one handed sword and two handed sword -- it's not unprecedented to then have a one handed spear and a two handed spear
so like ...a spear
brilliant
A one-handed spear is functionally no different from a short-sword. dagger.
rn just watching my friend repeatedly ram a dverger ward with a cart
except more like a polearm. with a ranged attack.
I stand by it. You could slash with a short spear, but it doesn't really do anything.
this is why i don't do business meetings.
There's no shame in avoiding your weaknesses.
(sips coffee)
I like spear the way it is, I hope they never change it.
i hope they fix it the way it should be π
What if they made spears mint flavoured?
Naah, I'm a vanilla kinda guy (badumdish)
peppermint is superior anyway
Nice! Great comeback! lol
It's also very viking themed. Since we actually make fake vanilla out of the wood pulp of trees found in scandinavia.
Aww, you ruined it. π
So now I can lick my spear and taste vanilla. I'm a happy viking.
Lick whatever you want my dude but leave us out of it π
It's not the length of your spear, it's what you do with it (or the popularity of its flavour).
elderberry flavored spears now in stock at your local merchant!
(product availability may varyπ ).
I know of raspberries, cloudberries, vineberries... where does one come across elderberries in Valheim?
just have to forage the elder for his stash....π (joke intensifies)
the elder has exactly 2 elderberries
@ornate sigil This is a joke!
ya, just gata look for the bush.
that would make for a great april fools joke item. cant really do anything with it, but you cant summon another elder and the ragdoll doesn't go away till you loot the "elderberries".
Wait... you didn't use any food from Mountains or Plains?
visit haldor and tame some lox. please, for the love of pete.
Does anybody want to play together I've been playing this ever since it came out and I've been playing it by myself I'm just looking for some people to play with if not that's cool too π
#1024264966712340510 π
I just kept sausages around
160 hp was plenty for plains, in mistlands its 1-shot territory
hi there everyone π
Yeah Alot of them want me to restart my character unfortunately guess I'm going solo again thanks for showing me the channel though
you could make a new character, no need to delete the old one
I know but I rather not I worked hard for all the stuff I have I'm not trying to create a new one I've had this character since the game dropped
the urge to pet every single one of my horde of wolves and have them roam with me through the closest biomes is strong
weirdly we seem to not get the loot rooms in infested mines
thats just rng π i sometimes have to go through mutliple to get just one
i just found something kinda interesting, if Brenna hits you you get burning status effect for 5 seconds, i would assume that if you then parry her attack any kind of effect on player would be nullified (except stagger and knockback ofc) but aparently it will restart the timer for the burning effect
Finally got around to updating my last food guide. Link if anyone wants it: https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/1e8ndpo/valheim_food_guide_version_2/
If anybody's on Xbox and wants to play lmk
Has anyone built a greydwarf farm to farm blood magic?? I'd love to see pics/vids if anyone would be willing to share? π
Most of the stuff I've googled suggests digging underneath the spawner, but surely it'll just fall?
spawner won't fall. it just hangs in air
#1024264966712340510 π
I'm not using that I can't join anybodys world either modded or I have to get whitelisted and wait a really long time or I have to make a new character which I'm not going to do that's why I'm asking Xbox player specifically
You know you can make your own post with tags like "xbox" "vanilla" there right? People are usually looking there if they want to play with someone and here your message will most likely get burried since this channel is quite active most of the time π
Isn't there a risk that one of my deadraised skeletons will fire an arrow at the spawner and destroy it?
yes. that's why most farms protect the spawner. sometimes by covering it with raised earth
yep, thats why you should build kind of shell around it π alternatively you could not dig under it but make and earthen wall around it and still encase the spawner
Hmmmm I think I need to see some pics
there are plenty of youtube videos on the subject
careful though, some are out of date. like if they use a hearth to kill, that's not going to work anymore because of the fire source taking damage. i think the current best way to do it is smoke damage by mostly submerged standing braziers
I'm building it to level-up blood magic, so fire or smoke damage won't help me anyway because it's my skellies I want to do the killing. YouTube wasn't much help hence coz like you say, alot of it is out of date. I think I understand the science tho so I'll have a go at just making my own build π Wish me luck lol
dig a pit under a spawner and spam skillies
ohhh. if you're just killing them yourselves, it's simple. dig a deep-ass hole. keep a pillar of earth encasing the spawner. done
I don't recall needing anything special to prevent archers from hitting the spawner, but if you're really concerned, you could build a small platform for your skellies so they can't get off (unless you push them) and/or build a small wall between them and the spawner to block shots
If you leave the Ashlands while a Flametal... island???... is sinking, then you come back, it is back to the non-sinking position. Known bug?
yes
Doesn't much matter since it won't sink at all anymore
So I doubt anyone cares to fix it
The sinking is disabled as a temporary fix to the sliding issue, so if they can fix that issue they might change this too
Oh, they care.
Had one of the most statistically unlikely things happen to me. Running towards a Flametal island and one of the rogue flame things hits an unstable lava rock right next to me. About 15 seconds later I run and jump on the Flametal to mine it, and mid air a second rogue flames hits me. Wtf
hello good morning everyone, I've been playing valheim for 118 hours by now and am playing with a huge group of friends (ranging from 6-8 players)
btw before I ask anything do I have to ||spoiler|| anything in the chat?
why the game still didnt released i thought they said its supposed to be relased in june?
The content update was released. Still at least one major content update left before release.
they still missing deep north
That was the update that came out about a month ago
They are patching it on the test realm for balancing
not really. what's up
ashlands public test dropped in may 14
Ashlands has been released
ok so we recently got to plains exploration and we decided to make a new home at plains. I want to know if those tar blobs respawn in the ponds
only public test
They literally never said that
yeah it is my fault
yes. initially there can be several, after it's drained they can still respawn 1-2 occasionally iirc
err..
