Also am I misremembering or did they buff the carry capacity of carts in ashlands or maybe hildir update? I vaguely remember around 1500 weight being the cart limit before the smallest hills were a problem but now I can carry 2100 still decently fine
I don’t remember a buff 🤔
You could have just lowered your expectations
Black metal isn't exactly rare and upgrading to BM chests when you reach plains saves a ton of space and makes organization more comfortable.
Also black metal is renewable because you have an infinite supply of fuling so there's no point in not upgrading like there would be with iron, as iron you have to go out of your way to get it whereas you'll just passively gain black metal over time
true but the main reason we didn't is because the chests are so large and would require a full storage revamp
Are you looking to redesign a building? Do you not feel like doing it all over again? Worry not! You can fix this problem by orderng iTrollstav. Go to the closest building you wish to improve and use the staff and you'll gain unlimited motivation to make something better. iTrollstav, get yours today!
||warning, we do not pay for any unintended damage or loss of life||
I kept reminding my teammate over and over again to never even have the troll staff equipped in the base lol
I mean if your current storage solution is good enough there's a reason it's called good enough
well yeah its good enough but just barely
we can't fit more chests in our base lmao
Build a new base for storage
Devs need to fix a part of their game. I got stuck behind a swamp dungeon and got ganged up by a body pile and a draugr
There was like a tiny gap
And I couldn't get out no matter how much I jumped
Yea those gaps are pretty common, can be annoying
Is there a specific channel to ask for structure design help/ videos?
yep
#building-tips / #building-discussion 👍
How can i see my coordinates on the map without /pos
When you ping the map, it should show in f5 even without devcommands enabled (i think).
no access to console sadly
....hnmm🧐 not sure.
you need to put -console in launch options if you want to use it 🙂
I do know initial spawn is 0/0.
not necesearly, i had aworld where 0/0 was in a water 😄 but yeah spawn is very close to 0/0
i know, but not sure if i can since i play on geforce now :(
What's spirit damage?
type of dmg, just like frost dmg for example but only undead and demon enemies take it
how long can a shield generator last in ashlands with 10 bones?
I believe it's based on damage taken, not time, so it's going to depend on how busy the area is.
you have it on mistwalker, frostner, type of damage more effective against the undead
oh I see... so how fast can it deplete based on damage? for example if meteors fall only
thanks
If I recall, it's 1 item per 500 damage taken.
I see... do you happen to know maybe how much damage does the meteor do?
Not offhand. check the wiki maybe.
F i raise my walls towards the fortress its not high enough to snipe the spawners
That worked, thank you so much!
Also there were an asksvin on the walls of the fortress along with a million of those skeletons
Does anyone know what settings on and off help best for stuttering and lag on xbox?
Lowering render distance should help with lag/stuttering.
Whats the best Mistlands tier foods thats cheap to use while doing casual farming?
Yes I cooked a bunch of salad for myself any other food combos you recommended?
why'd you ask in two channels
I usually go with honey glazed chicken, salad, and omelette since all three are fully farmable.
I don't have enough eggs currently in our base to make that yet
Yes it’s awesome
you have enabled the new modifier, "fire spread" probably
how do you put it out and how do you prevent it practically impossible to make a hearth in wooden house now
bread, then.
Yea need a lot of space between the wood and hearth. Really recommended to put stone around it
If you don't like it though can always turn fire spread modifier off
how do you do that early game though? I have to agree with a suggestion made a while back that we should be able to bulid an early game fireplace and/or stone chimney.
we can stack 50 stones into a pretty pile from day 1, but I can't make a fireplace more compex than five stones in a circle?
Can't really early game with a fireplace, but in cross-eyes situation of a hearth you can
Yoooo we got magic now???
we had for more than year and a half but yeah 😄
lol someone just came back, I guess.
Since the Ashlands, I've been having issues with previously dark areas being completely pitch black (like an unlit room in a crypt, or night time in the swamp). Previously, there'd be some ambient light. If the torches are out in front of a crypt I literally can't see the doorway.
Is this intentional, or a bug?
@merry pebble been off for a bit can't wait to be a viking magic bro
So has anyone fought a two star morgen? Are they real?
Whats the best weapons to use to use to farm hares in the Mistlands
yes
||staff of embers ||
^^^ agreed
Or put wooden spikes down everywhere, they tend to kill a lot
The staff goes crazy
Is that Ashlands weapons?
Nope, mistlands
And the staff also turns wood piles to coal! So useful
Okay the staff I dont have yet and it requires mana to cast
yup
Ok. You asked for the best. That’s the best. Otherwise I’d just use a bow
is there away to increase boat acceleration? they take too long to start moving
expecially when you have to make a movement adjustement
MODER
still have to wait too much the boat to start
are you sailing with the wind?
the problem is not the speed or the wind, is the acceleration
sometimes i stay still waiting, almost deciding to go in water to push the boat to start moving
with wind right direction
Yes. It was awful.
Are you… tapping the W key three times?
You need to use full power. Make the lines red
I lost literally all of my gear trying to recover. Had to make two new sets of ashland gear before I got it all back
Holy shit Rob… at least you got 4 hearts!
I'd imagine a good strat against 2 star morgen is immobilizing it or parrying it with bubbleshield then shooting it with dundr, and repeating that until dead
i put my nidhogg in a catapult accindentaly´and shot it off a mountain, cant find it in the ocean even with cheats, do they despawn?
I had to cheese it by raising ground
eventually but it takes a bit. Just spawn another one in though?
I used a stupid amount of arrows and the staff of fracturing
(I didn't have dundr at the time)
The stupid thing one shots everything except flametal armor (and the second hit will get you there)
snail bob
But yes, they are real
If it is docked you can put a beam over the boat and run against it, that starts the boat moving and you can start sailing right away.
If just in water there is nothing for it than hoping the wind is blowing in the sail and completely open up the sails, if the wind isn't correct paddling till the wind can catch on the sails is the only way to go.
Which is best English server?
Couldn’t believe how quickly we beat Yagluth last night. It’s our 3rd play through to Mistlands level so we have experience. But dang he was pretty easy.
he's a big softie
It was fun though and it’s nice knowing we have improved so much in skill level from our first play through. We had all same gear as in the very first time.
Why is Ashlands so laggy?
lots of instances around
Smoke, fire and brimstone.
That's what I said only a tad more clear.
i am not arguing 😄
So we agree to agree?
it would seem we do 😄
So which setting should I lower to fix it?
draw distance? point lights? Those are the ones I heard help overall
My understanding is anything that goes into Ocean despawns, that sinks.
I just found out yesterday the ancient bones float. I could swear they used to sink.
anything that isnt in radius of player base structure will despaw after certain ammount of time
Yeah, but if you throw it into ocean waters, they instantly despawn. As well as any water deep enough. I forget how many meters. I think its 2, maybe 3.
and if they are in the radius they need to be more than 2 meters underwater
not instantly, they should still need an hour to despawn
I was told about the ocean/water years ago. So don't recall if it despawns immediately or still takes an hour. Regardless, out of sight, out of mind, so I never worried about it.
my ship was hunted!!
These new portals are incredible. When I learned about it I instantly went to work mining my heart out and stockpiling raw iron across the world. When I got the materials for the portal I brought it all over to the main base to smelt. Little tip. You can connect stone portals to wood ones, and you also don’t need both portals to be stone to transport ore! Super helpful
yeah, untill you get obliterator its great way to get rid of unneceseary items 🙂
I still haven't made the obliterator this play through, and I have had iron for a while now.
after i make it i just use it as a trash pit for items i have too much of 🙂
i usualy just throw everything in it untill its full then turn it into coal
I have so many cleared fuling villages where I've got a chest with many stacks of black metal ore and I've been going back and grabbing them. Instead of 20 standard chests I'm doing black metal chests and it makes so much more space in my main base
exactly 😄
We have 7 spawners this play through, so plenty of coal and cores.
nice 😄
Has anyone met Asksvin with two stars?
i found 4 kinda close to each other so i will also have plenty i believe
not personaly in the wild, no, but they should be there
Yeah, we have 4 pretty close together in our first swamp. 3 close together in another.
Probably more players are needed so that there is a chance of the appearance of "high-level" mobs
Gotten a crazy amount of chains this play through too. 9 crypts and 22 chains.
Plus 3 spectres/wraiths.
i got quite a decent number too i believe 😄 i am just starting valheim now so i will check how many it is exactly
i have 25, from 9 crypts too 😄
Iron has been crappy. Best crypt is 60 something iron. Only 2 players, so maybe thats why.
Mine is 26 total, 4 for the blower.
chains is one of the only item where i want item multiplier active
i didnt make it yet, but it is quite similar then 🙂
Maybe they changed the drop rate? Or just lucky RNG, I guess.
aren't those relatively easy to farm by staying at the swamp overnight?
i'm so glad i got a wraith trophy early on, dont want to imagine having to farm one
eh, they can be a bit of pain, its better to go through crypts imo
Now you can have a bathrobe next to your hot tub.
I think blobs now drop iron too. Not just oozes. I picked up two iron and I only fought blobs.
they drop through the floor of the crypt quite often now, i found some scatered outside the enterence and didnt fight anything there before
I found one like that. But these other two were not near crypts. I was just farming for foods.
still could be from crypt, some of them are quite large complexes, i really dont think that blobs drop iron
I auto pick up, so maybe I got them near a crypt, but I also was not mining recently either.
🤷♂️ i would be happy about the free iron then XD
Me too. Its still a low drop rate if I did get them from blobs.
For the rooting beserkir axes, does each hit have 20% chance to root or does the full double hit have 20%
I'd see if they have that up on the wiki.
we don't even have a page at all yet 😅
For Ashlands? They have at least some data up on it.
Having trouble trying to decide how do I want to setup my portal network when it integrates stone portals into it. Obviously, due to their size I'd want to use minimal amount of them... think I'll have only 1 or 2 permanent 2way stone portals, some 1 way stone portals (permanent) and anything that doesn't require a permenent stone portal will be left a regular wooden portal
Sounds like a plan.
it’s probably per hit so the double strike has 2 proc chances
You only really need it for ore, and at the Ashlands stage of the game, thats going to probably mostly be for flametal.
I'd assume so too but I asked to double check
for ashlands I'm planning an ashland specific portal network that doesn't have many links to the main network, it will have a main HQ fortress with 2 way stone portal back to my warehouse, but that's it. It will have a lot more 2 way portals so I can gather resources around that area... also ensures that the portal is more durable and doesn't burn if the shield is down for some reason
probably going to run out of space too, so will start making regional HQs to have even more portals... the plan is nothing less than full conquest of the largest ashland continent
I never realized the forge and workbench diameters increased as you levelled them. Probably because I never have them levelled in open areas. 😄
Yeah, you need the Queen item to build a ship that won't burn.
Same thing: the boss item you need to proceed next biome
I wonder if you can skip some of those
I think yes
Eithyr you can use a troll
I have seen people say you can skip all but moder.
Skipping queen isn't ideal
Yagluth you can, it's just very hard
Moder is the only "mandatory" one
i have remodeled my surtling farm again, the last time i did it i lost the save and they got turned back into earth mounds and my nice hut got turned back into a shed xD
And just for queen
Moder cause artisan table, queen cause burning ship
like, you can get to ashlands without the boat if you're lucky
Ah yes
But moder also hardlocks lots of useful gear so even on that regard it'd make everything significantly harder
You need moder for smelter righg?
Is mob difficulty scaled by how many members are actively in the server or just based upon how many have joined thus far?
where do i find the modded xbox servers my friend is playing on microsoft store but i cant find any servers that are xbox and modded weve done it before but not on a 24/7 server
it's whoever is actively online
I foubd some dwergs
And inside a certain radius iirc
They nice with me
They are nice until you anger them.
Yes.
I don't think they adjust for late arrivals, though.
Like when my wife portaled in to help with the Earth is Shaking event, the trolls did not seem to suddenly get tougher.
otherwise you would be punished with ultra strong enemies just for playing on a popular server, even if you play on your own
But they have nice stuff
Which is why I always anger them, eventually.
Actually, I just lure in enemies until they get killed.
I wish enemies had fall damage so bad
its based on distance from each other not whos on the server.
A lovely little Joke a friend made yesterday while we were sailing the stormy oceans
"A Viking notices Odin watching over him from the shore while sailing his raft next to the shore"
"The viking asks Odin "All Father, my Carve was attacked by a vile Jormungand and it sank, myself and my ally slain, how can I outrun those fiendish serpents when the wind is against us?"
"And Odin responded"
"Warrior, use the Blessing of the mother of drakes, serpents cant chase a Moder boat"
I wonder if they still expect to take about 18 months to finish up Valheim... Have they made any recent statements about this?
No
Unfortunately the news channel only goes back to the hack.
yeh no mention other than what we know about them doing already
Thats what I was figuring. I was just wondering if they changed their minds on number of employees, or some other factor that may let them go faster.
nothing other than the usual faster vs rushed debate xD
18 months does sound a bit short to me
looking back at Mistlands though, that didn't take that long
but Ashlands took longer and then we hear from devs things like "wish there was time for more technical challenges" or "wish there was time to add a dungeon"
doubt deep north going to take any less time than Ashland
My only "problem" with how long it takes is a friend of mine who I played Valheim with died last November. So thats the only thing that gives me any regrets about how long it takes. So I still want them to make this the best game that they can.
sorry to hear, and i think mostly agreed here we are comfortable with the development time to keep getting that high standard of content we're used to
for the amount of new content we get, I wouldn't consider this a slow pace
Thanks. I don't think you ever played with him. He didn't do Mistlands at all, so if you did, it was years ago.
is there someone who wants start new server duo or trio with me?
Ashlands feels very authentic aside from the obvious gripes, absolutely delivered
Yeah, I am looking forward to making it to Ashlands and discover all the new ways Valheim wants to kill me.
the main problem with ashlands I have right now is that XP gain is completely messed up with these new staves. I went from 30 to 45 in 2 days, today just 1 level...
hoping that the lighting "staff" gets me decent amount of xp
Yeah, XP gets harder as you go up. Another reason I hate dying. Takes hours to earn those high skill points back.
the problem here is that these ashland staves don't give you much xp at all...
better go fish for another 3 hours to regain that lost skill xD
I've died only 1 time in ashlands, and that was counted into that 30 to 45 skill level up
as soon as I swapped to staff of wild XP gain dropped to near 0
Oh, yeah, thats been making my wife angry. She has died 3 or 4 times, and really gets angry about working that fishing skill back up. 😄 😄
Is there a new skill for them? It doesn’t look like they’re on the skills page for elemental or blood magic
At least it helps me talk her out of going out on the plains in our bronze gear. "Do you really want to lose all those hours of fishing skill?"
Id just change the death penalty for her
you need me to safely achieve that xD
We have a nice set up for killing Lox and gathering the berries easily enough. I don't want to set up a farm yet. Building up a decent amount of needle arrows too. So I am satisfied, for now. She, on the other hand, keeps wanting go take out villages and start gathering the flax and barley...
fun
hm... apparently drundr is good for gaining xp... guess I'll go grab it next
Between that harness and the serpent shield, I am practically invincible against piercing damage, but still, not interested in facing everything else out there.
Boney not down yet?
It’s good for xp - anything that fires lots of projectiles cause you gain xp on hit
No. We have a location, but we aren't even done getting all the iron gear.
Almost have my stuff back in Ashlands... again.
Died close to my portal. Just going to chill and do something else.
I am just not good enough to play this biome but I want to enjoy the game. But I can't settle for not completing Ashlands
except staff of wild that doesn't count the roots hitting stuff t . t
just mace is enough, the rest you'll replace in minutes with silver
We have 30 Frost meads made. So we are ready to do that.
taking a break can help, grinding the skills back as we were discussing is something we all find annoying xD
I don't bother with grinding the skills back.
I've had them pretty high up for a long time until this biome came along. Even Mistlands is easy for me. But I wonder how low they'll be by the time, if I ever, complete Ashlands
Biggest reason I have gotten so good at not dying. I like my skills to stay high.
yea mistlands is pretty chill
I still need to play more ashlands to see how I feel about it after all the back and forth balancing. Before Ashlands swamp was def my hardest biome
Should I go for the electricity or blood crossbow? I made the electricity one but I am thinking about switching to blood, although the few times the electricity does trigger it does do quite a lot of damage
Blood
in mistlands only those dvergr towers are something I would consider harder than swamp
I don't think at this point any of the biomes are particular hard for me except Ashlands.
I find Swamp one of the simplest in my case since I just run through the swamp, scout out the crypts, then set up portal and cart to offload respective materials as I raid in a pre-planned out line.
Dverger towers are a pain in the ass, those would kill me in Mistlands. But Seekers and the like were fine
Electricity is best for quick attack speed. Blood is great on crossbow bc you can get insane sneak attacks (1 shot valks, etc.)
Swamp is rough for me at times. Like walking into a crypt and instantly getting shot by a 2 star and zero star draugr, bringing me from 230hp--> sub 50, with root chest on. Gonna have to be very careful without root chest or 2-3 hp foods
I actually just play with Troll Armor until I can upgrade it with Fenris. It only gets a bit weak in Mountains, otherwise it's serviceable
I usually run troll pants until fenris, but I like getting root chest and a metal helmet in swamp
I don’t find enough abominations for root and like being able to move so I use troll armor until I get silver
I find so many Abominations its annoying. I have 5 running around my first swamp right now. Of course, they aren't nearly as aggressive as they used to be, so its easier to just leave them alone.
*Likes being able to move
Covers body in heavy silver?*
Have I already told you about my frost cave luck?
True Vikings ran around naked because they were dirt poor.
]
What do y’all think of this: a counterpart belt accessory to the meginjord that provides the wearer with increased inventory size
@dreamy kiln hey can you come clear the spam
Thanks

Are explosive and grausten the only 2 catapult payloads?
Same
Yes.
Grausten to make sure you will hit your target, explosive for actually hitting the target
Would be a tough choice whether to bring my megging jord or my storage jord.
I love tough choices
Explosive, Grausten, or my personal favorite: Viking
holy crap, 5 bloodstones from a single fort, just what I needed
wow grausten payload really is useless
Yep. 😀
You can use it to aim before using the explosive ones because it's extremely cheap.
Guess I am getting old. I only have 76 hours played the last two weeks. I used to do that many hours per week.
They are quite bad indeed
Just a worse version of the craftable elemental swords, sadly
I just beat ||Fader as a sword swinger. 8 deaths and ~45 minutes. It gets pretty brutal after you get him below ~50% with how he spams the spike attack. Also, if you get stuck between him and a bell holder or even under his belly, you are dead. I admit after the third death (lost flametal, then askvin, then padded armor) I cheated with ghost to get my gear back so I could keep going. I really think he is too tough on melees.||
might not be the case when deep north comes out... looks like something designed for it
I've been hearing magic is the way to go in the Ashlands.
lol how is it dyrnwyn worse? It’s objectively stronger, unless you are complaining that fire < lightning
oh my god Dundr is so bad... I really want to like it, but they gave it so many downsidws no upside to make up for any of it
well its because dyrnwyn can't be modified
Nice!!!
okay im not gonna craft it then
It is
?
like with bloodstone for example
Yeah - you have to treat it like an emergency hand cannon
Bro it’s already enchanted
It's super satisfying to kill Trolls with it
when mobs like asksvin get close, blast them!
But it's SOOOOOO SLOOOOOOW when you have a lower magic level
- you can't sprint while it's "reloading"
- it doesn't wait for your input when to reload
- sprinting while reloading wastes all of the etir it was using to charge the weapon
- range is worse than melee weapons for melee damage
- beyond 1m the spread is so bad it's not going to do much damage
Just why?
the damage would be good enough if you removed all of those downsides except short range
maybe if it kept charging the longer you hold it and you could release it at any time
Once you get ashlands armor and weapons, everything in Ashlands is doable if you don't just blunder around. Fader was different for me.
and not completely waste the charging by spritning...
I'll probably keep using it to clear trash mob for xp, but beyond that I don't think so
this game is balanced as fuck
Is good against morgens
That's true. Morgens are weak to lightning...
I'll keep that in mind
And Dundr has a slight knock back, so you can get right in front of the Morgen, shoot, and get some distance
Which is good
I just wasted 50 etir because I had to do a small sprint to avoid damage, damn I love this etir eating machine...
Parrying with a magic bubble makes it obliterate morgens
I'll probably just use it exclusives against them and if I spot anything else it's good against
Good against anything wet, but so is frost staff
I do really like just jumping at a big enemy and then firing to get propelled backwards away from the danger
I should try using Dundr against Bonemass, that might be interesting...
I mean, Spugelo has a point, Dundr is pretty weak, and isn't that great against most of the mobs. But still, there are moments when I find Dundr quite fun to use
Like shooting a Troll with it, which is really satisfying for some reason

Another problem I noticed is the bad fire rate
Dundr is very fun but in most cases you'd prob be just as good if not better off with ice staff
I think dundr is pretty well balanced though. Ember and ice staff on the other hand...
Good point
Fun factor goes up a lot too when using dundr on tree logs
balanced? Not at all... ice staff is where the balance is at, it's not all that great but that is acceptable for a weapon from previous biome. It does single target damage but staff of embers almost better at it, almost but not quite...
when you take into account the range again, not great balance. if you have to be in melee distance then you should be doing melee levels DPS
whats the best out of the new melee weapons?
probably the dual axes
dual axes 100%
lightning dual axes 🤩
oh well, at least mages got root and troll staff, just a little bit of a problem that neither of them is good for xp
eh - we still have the ol busted training routine
Go into a mountain and use ice staff on a golem = free XP forever
so then i shouldnt make a shield?
You shouldn't only rely on the dual axes for melee
Depends if you like parrying. Max Carapace buckler is better for parrying than Max flammetal shield
Imagine seeing four bonemaw in the span of 7 minutes
so should i use like different weapons for certain enemies?
don't have too 🤣
axes are good against basically everything - except flying mobs.
Lightning axes are AMAZING in crowds due to the lightning hitting multiple targets
What
I'd recommend going for a non-pierce melee weapon and shield. Mage is very powerful too though, so could go for that
Personally I'm more for the light armor, but heavy armor slaps too
they spawn in the same spot RELIGIOUSLY
so nidhogg and shield?
legit i killed that serpent and his family 5-6 times before I got bored
The thing is you’d never see four serpents on a 7 minute voyage through the Ocean biome
i can use the Ask armor and still block attacks well?
But sailing through undiscovered ashlands for 7 minutes
just had the worst spawn point in existence
Dual axes are generally pretty good but against starred warriors and maybe morgens you usually won’t get a big enough window to attack more than once because of the recovery time
i decided to make my base right next to spawn near water
so then use a sword and shield for that?
it turns out the water i set my base next to is just one giant lake
i find the berserkir axe surprisingly good against a non-star warrior. i get enough damage in to stun one and do enormous damage
can't make this shit up
The mace is very good because of the knockback
You can use it to push the miniboss away to easily kill him without taking any damage, and do the same for starred charred warriors
okay, so i should the dual axes and the mace for melee right?
That should work well, yes
Choice of shield is up to you, the tower shield only has -10 movespeed so it’s even more valid in this biome
should i use lightning on everything?
hey guys i just found like a small white crystal like thing in the mountains but my iron pick cant harvest it. is this an item i can collect or is just for looks?
Let's just say this:
Lightning is never NOT good
got it
my friend's game crush every 10 min on my host server, anyone know how to fix it?
likely part of a drake nest, only the egg is pickable
drake nest
its next to a rock does that mean the nest is in the rocks
alright thank you
and MY axe!
For example yea. Although sadly, I think mistwalker is about as good if not better than nidhogg
i like how the dual axes have very little windup on its first attack
can be useful in some situations i can imagine
should i use a level 1 flametal mace or a level 1 mistwalker
Should probably play with what you feel like. It's your playthrough, not mine
Personally I'd prefer mistwalker
Also depends on what you've leveled up the most
don't use mistwalker if your swords level is like 30-40 below your club skill
but maybe consider using frostner if that is the case
Perfect opportunity to level up the sword skill tho no?
Not in Ashlands 🤣
With all the enemies?
With all those deaths if you aren't properly prepared 🙈
Ashlands is like an arcade - you don't go into the higher levels until you've levelled up
I guess my first order of today is to run screaming through the plains, in black forest gear, to find the nearest elder altar
Don’t forget to wave at the friendly neighbourhood mosquitos
and the friendly goblins.
My friend has had that same thing happen, it sucks lol
If you don’t rawdog the entire ashlands with a level 1 frostner and a weightlifting belt you arent a true viking
im currently on my way to set up a swamp/mountain base in a meadows just nearby
the other one is in between two mistlands and a plains
I main a mage.
Sooooo 🤣
Some seeds be like that.
I haven't played since before mistlands so that's kinda iffy for me
75% of the way there and I’ve had wind at my sails the entire way so far
I couldn’t have picked a better day to go sailing
My longboat has been destroyed twice without me knowing how by now
What biome
this time I found the wood mats of it floating where I parked it
but no nails(?)
Nails sink
You can build some stairs and jump down to reach the nails
They aren't even on the sand below
What biome did this happen in?
After a certain amount of time or experience can I post screenshots here?
It's in the basic starter area
meadows I believe
Maybe the necks are hungry?
Posted it in #screenshots
That's my dock, and the wood was just floating in the brace area
Can’t lie I can’t see a thing lol
I forget if Valheim had ingame gamma settings
Unfortunately not that I’ve seen
Horrible to play during the irl day
If there’s a mod out there for it I’d happily install it
Some monitors have "night vision" modes which is what I switch on and off without thinking too much about it
there may be rocks in the water, and rising/falling tides can smash your boat on them
helps definitely with irl sunlight daytime play
honestly don't really know what to say. dock looks good enough
other than nighttime spawns wreckin' your shit
Were there any necks, boars or greylings nearby when you found the broken boat?
ive had my boat destroyed everytime ive landed in meadows at my farmbase and each and everytime is a bloody neck
I posted a new daytime screenshot
Nah if they did they were already gone
Wait until you get a storm in the ashlands 😛
a neck just biting at it for a whole day or something?
wow the lightning axes are insanely good
tearing through the morgen sometimes when enough procs
a neck can destroy my longboat in the time it takes me to plant all of my meadow growables
So what I'm now confused by is the wood is there, and it floats
but the nails I dont really see
From what I figured out, stuff that sinks in water doesn't "shine" so they're a little harder to see
Friend had told me that stuff 2m underwater despawns but from testing throwing flint and bone fragments into 3m+ water they don't despawn
So I'm not sure at all what's happening here
Either the nails slid somewhere or the 2m depth despawning takes some time
wood floats - like real life
nails sink - like real life
for sure, but did the nails despawn for being in deep water for too long?
the depth of the dock is right about 2m give or take the tide level
If they’re near a base structure such as a workbench they won’t despawn
So they shouldn’t have despawned if the other items didn’t
my #screenshots shows that the boat might have disassembled right on the edge of the workbench area
Hoo boy, I can't imagine how much more terrifying the Meadows would be if draugr villages spawned in the starter meadows island
workbench doesent prevent your boat being destroyed anyway tho 🤔
it was about how my boat was destroyed, the nails are missing but the wood was found, and that items within workbench area won't despawn
oh, thats really unfortunate then
Okay the game just gave me a big reality check regarding stone
I thought I had a fuckton of stone to build my new base
I had barely enough to finish the harbour
yep, never enough stone 😄
LoL
Happens all the time
Speaking of, it's probably time to go slap some plains pillars to restock 🪨
Hahahaha not with troll armor I’m not
Ive only just reached Iron Age lol
I think my plan B will be to make a log cabin with the bare essentials for now
mistlands > ashlands
which is why i save my stone from the moment i get a pickaxe, and store absolutely every stone i find
how i ended up with 5 iron chests of stone before even using stone
And then run out within the first few days of using it 🤣
Does anyone know what the max amount of tamed askvins is in a certain area?
no idea
yeh not sure either but based on other tames probably 4-5 in 10m radius
I am struggling to melee in Ashlands.
I see more and more people saying magic is the way to go.
How should I build to overcome it? I only have access to Mistland's tier stuff for the most part.
nah, melee is ok 😄
Mistwalker will get you through most scrapes in there, it's more for the ||boss that magic is advised, since he's incredibly tricky to get close and attack ||
I can make melee builds and done most of the game effectively with it. That's not what I'm asking
is there a good mod for mistlands so you see better
The reason people mostly struggle with ashlands is mob count
People rely on parry too much in other biomes where mob count is lower
I use BetterWisps. It just adds an upgrade option. Need a lot of SIlver Bars but it's at least "fair" to me in my book
You have to rely on aoe attacks like demolisher, polearms, big axes, big shields for tanking, etc
I often skip Yag and just go to mistlands lol
back in the day arrow spam, but ofc now magic spam far exceeds
I'll think about that.
I've tried a few different melee options, haven't done tower or buckler shield. Mistwalker is great but eventually can be overrun. Demolisher just kills so slow and mobs tend to aggro from nearby areas so it can just be a very tiresome and lengthy fight with it.
Have not tried big axes but I've had a bad time with them in the past.
Still looking for magic build advice
use bonemass and spam attack
Magic build just make sure to have staff of protection and some decent movespeed (I recommend at least some fenris or askvin armor, not all mage). Ice staff guns down and neutralizes single targets, use embers or trolls or something for dealing with groups. Trolls and skellies are very good distractions
Yes Bonemass, that's great and works when it's availible, I use it when I can.
Stil llooking for magic build advice
thanks. What food combinaation do you prefer
Personally I like to run hybrid mage, so maybe 2 eitr 1 stamina and then play mage but also go in close with a mistwalker or something to put the real hurt on enemies when it's not too overwhelming
Magic build goes 2 ways - pure mage or spellsword
1 stamina is also good for running/dodging enemies
Snail is the spellsword guy ❤️🔥
run 1 hp, 1 stam, 1 eitr
Ashlands has been making me consider spellsword type play
you don’t need the extra eitr unless you’re a hard committed mage
I might try that once I get my melee weapons back, so at the moment I just need magic since that's what I have to work with
I like pure mage, so I just run 3 eitr foods, magic shield, ice staff/ember staff, and summoning skull if I need to create a distraction
Just to confirm, a tamed lox shouldn't target a tamed boar right?
Is there a way to lead boars elsewhere after you've tamed them?
ave just been pushing them around and corraling
harpoon maybe
hmmm
works yes, you have to enable friendly fire
what does the dundr do?
||magic lightning shotgun||
anybody wanna join me and my friend in a player hosted modded crossplay world?
in #1024264966712340510 you can make a post/reply 👍
nobody does modded crossplay nobody on microsoft store here ig
you can ask about mods in #mods-discussion 🙂
i never asked about any what xd
you asked about modded crossplay
they just gonna tell me to go look for a group xdd i know how to do modded crossplay ive done it im looking for someone who wants to join
then TheMeowMechanicGeneral already gave you a place where you should have some luck 😄
if fair balanced debate=passive aggression then sure....
well i was only trying to help you and i am sorry you feel that way...
People here are volunteers and trying to help you. Please be nice.
There's really only one magic build, you get all the eitr-weave or embla if you've unlocked. Then you eat 2-3 eitr food. Then you staff of protection yourself and 3 skeletons from dead raiser, then you fire or ice staff everything til out of eitr, and use a potion and continue, reapply when shield breaks
once you get the ashlands stuff unlocked, there's more options for what you like pets or offense wise I assume, but there's basically one set of gear
I carry carapace shield and mistwalker (best sword against ash mobs i think til endgame stuff i haven't got metal for) so when i'm OOM and on cooldown, i spend my stamina before switching back to spamming ice darts or fireballs or shield
has carried me and GF through clearing 3 ashlands islands i die more than she does cause i'm always shielding her and skeletons but i get popped once in a while by Morgens 2-shotting me through shield
L take
Okay I got an amazing Strat for Black Forest tier stone gathering
explain?
There's a lot of different viable mage builds
Find a meadows open field with loads of stone, gather it all up, then use the clear space left for farming
There's only 4 staffs before the ashlands, I use all of them, what's the options lol
for example you could also go 1/1/1 on food, go fenris armor, go askvin armor, go flammetal armor, etc.
Sure yeah you can use it as just support. That's sort of just doing less magic, use it for shield only for example. But you can't spam it for damage or pets unless you go all in
I mean the non magic equivalent is the melee weapon/weapons of your choice and bow/crossbow
Yea truest mage build would be 3 eitr foods full embla armor and queen power. But there's a lot of good mage builds that don't lean fully into using eitr
There’s this guy on YT using a hybrid build with staff of protection and the fireball staff and then sword hammer spear and shield for Ashland’s
He seems really proficient with it and makes Ashland’s look like a breeze
is it good?
It's balanced I'd say. But Ice staff and staff of embers are pretty overtuned for Mistlands, so they might often end up still being better than Dundr in Ashlands. Ice staff especially
It's super fun though, and you can also do some cool launching of tree logs with it, because it causes a lot of knockback
You can just use LESS magic, yes. That doesn't take a build, that's you do what you have been, eat one Eitr food for 55+ mana and just shield yourself between hits fighting as you have been. totally a choice and totally valid, but my description was actually how to fight as a mage
If you just wanna spam magic then 2 eitr foods isn't the way to go
Personally though when I go full mage (using only mage weapons) I still like using mobile armor. Askvin is very good, fenris too
Honestly I might try a mixed build just cause my GF prefers to fight ranged, and i'm pretty good on block timing and dodge rolls. but i like my skeleton friends too much
feedback from mages also confirms this, ember is still very strong if not the strongest, and summoning obviously carries through as well, the new ones and the ice staff are still okay from what i could gather, but folk weren't keen on the roots bcoz they didn't do enough damage
yeah I love the askvin armor and its like 92+ armor at level 2 which is comparable to padded
ice staff seems more effective on taking out things like the twitchers by slowing them, embers is more AE damage if they're packed tightly but mobs move around a lot so i base it on the configuration of the mob we're fighting

One thing I noticed during my playtrough of hardmode ashlands is that despite a full set of flametal and the cape having like 30 more armor than carapace armor I pretty much noticed zero difference in enemy damage to me ._.
really considered switching to ask a bunch of times because of it
go fast is good. extra 300hp from shield also very good
Depends on which nidhogg we're talking. Nidhogg the Thundering is doing better for me than Mistwalker (or maybe I'm just better at fighting those warriors)
Do boars eat your crop as they are growing?
eat the boar
i think so, but i havent tested it before
No. I have a couple of mine wandering all over my crops. They will eat harvested foods if you leave them on the ground too long.
Do the carrots pop out of the ground by themselves?
No. You have to harvest every crop.
Just some people use pole weapons to harvest their crops faster. So its left on the ground until they get close enough to pick it up.
this is just for flax/barley
Yes, and people can breed their animals on the plains too.
Alright I think that's it for me and Ashlands.
Decided to give magic a go on it and it was fine, fun even.
But what gets me killed every time is just gigantic ambushes of powerful enemies and swaths of trash.
Was sailing along fine and then got a Fallen Valk, Morgen, and the usual Askvin and Charred cohorts all in a bottleneck I had to go through and got cut off in.
its still good to clarify that 🙂 some people might think it works on everything and loose a sizable chunk of their crops
True.
1 food isn't enough to summon skelly unless you're using the new foods, and that's only when it freshly eaten since it requires 100 and the food gives 105
||Am I doing something wrong of do planted Vineberries produce almost nothing? They grew up 3 walls high so I think they have enough space and I met all the conditions.||
^ Ash faming question
they are currently somewhat bugged i believe
They are bugged and reset each login so waiting for a patch
Damn. Guess I'll go foraging again =\
i mean, they are not that hard to get via exploring 😄
I have a bunch of portals to different vine locations, they are a very abundant resource if you collect regularly
yeah, ashlands has farms made for you basically 🙂
I'm someone who really enjoys spending too much time making farms. I have a nice Vineyard going near my main base but require more seeds
eventually I'm sure it will produce lots of fruit 🙂
When the hotfix comes maybe lol. Until then the Vineyard will just continue growing to an absurd size
anybody knows if there is a compass or somethign to orientated yourself for the no map setting?
you have a nice tree in a sky 😉
lul
i do not play no-map but i heard quite a few people use it for orientation 🙂
yes i have used the tree for orientation too, but it would be nice to have something like a compass to help navigate
feels like it fits there just saying
idk if a compass existed in the viking era? wast most travel done by stars?
i believe they might have used sun compass
yea reading some short stuff now, though the sun compass wasnt believed to be used widely
The justification for nomap runs is a little weird IMO. I would be making my own map if I turned off maps in the game. There are junk science claims that Vikings didn't use maps, but I think this is a case where absence of evidence is perceived as evidence of absence.
Sure we can't find Viking maps. But we also can't find Viking agricultural tools and all sorts of other stuff. Because it turns out time is one hell of a ravager.
yea reading it, it says they didnt use maps or make maps but at the same time says that no maps survived, so kinda contradictory
I've seen some claims about how they would sail to England to raid without maps, but that's also not a situation where using maps makes sense. If you're going to a known destination, that's the last situation where you would use a map. I've traveled a thousand miles collectively in the last month without using a map. But to known destinations.
With some blood magic skill you can. But anyways skellies aren’t a must in order to play mage
Trolls I’m guessing would be rough to summon
How hard is the new boss?
Hard for melee
Nah it's not that hard for melee I killed him naked with a gs
Very hard in singleplayer with melee but with friends or ranged not that bad
Nice job
And that fastest way to kill the new boss is with melee anyways
Tends to sit in his fire pool...
He spammed meteors and fissure so I never had many opportunities to attack
If he's sitting in fire that's kinda on you, you need to move around and position yourself better.
And if he's spamming meteors and fissures you need to get into midrange and bait his fire breath attack and then you can hop into melee and trigger his melee attack cycle
I think I’m going to use my magic/melee build against him
I mean, I did skirt the outer edge of the arena area...he was just lazy until he randomly chose to take a walk into the lava lake for a hot minute.
skilling up Blood Magic lower the staff cost? I haven't seen that yet. I love skellies I can't imagine playing a mage without them lol
Yea, up to 33%. So 67 skelly cost at max
Does the staff just always say baseline for cost then? I assumed it'd change like the barrier with the protection staff
Think so? I don’t think stamina and eitr cost tooltips change as you level skills up. It’s very inconsistent
I find Queen harder to melee than Fader.
ye agreed
I'm not someone who really does tanking in Valheim at all. But I made and used heavy armor for the first time in a long time and had no problem doing melee with Fader.
So if I can do it, anyone can do it.
Tbh Fader does very little damage. Like his fire attacks hurt but are easily dodged. His melees are weak tho
it does lower cost also increase damage protection on the bubble , u can use the draugrs spawners in the swamp for blood magic training , build a half wall with flooring on top of the spawner it become like a small fighting arena for the skellies, build a small box with fire for afk training
Fissure can do thousands of damage per fire tick but is easy enough to avoid
What is your method to increase bow skills? I have a greydwarf nest setup, but it takes 55 shots to go from level 34 to 35. Very long.
Going at him with triple hp slayer and 50hp on vhard was fun
Getting to 100 on almost any skill takes probably macros or scripts cheese, I've played a LOT with staves like 100+ hours and have like 32 skill
Lox breeding and wood arrows.
Camping on top of bonemass and spamming left click prob. But I don’t rly farm skills
Is that time efficient? You have to raise lox.
That depends on whether you are already going to breed them. But if nothing else, it can be done with 100% safety.
Tame lox, turn on friendly fire, lowest quality bow you can make, wooden arrows, profit
No it's probably something done afk or scripted it would take many hours
Can do other stuff in the meantime
I remember when the game first dropped and I could put 300 arrows into a rock in like 5 mins. No idea how I'd level it now besides just playing with it
If you are farming bow skill, a skele spawn would work well.
I'm doing greydwarf because I can want the resin and eyes.
Spawners don't create enemies fast enough to be efficient for training
But you can make a decent afk blood magic training ground with a greydwarf spawner and skelly archers.
Or anything with pierce resistance for that matter.
Is there a reliable way to spawn 3 archers? Can you kill off the melee yourself
Best to use butcher knife on them. Can also turn on friendly fire tho and whack them
The best blood magic training ground would probably be a swamp location with two of the triple spawner spots that are adjacent. That gives you a total of six spawners, but you need to figure out a way to make sure nothing damages the spawners.
You would need to keep an eye on it, but it might be worthwhile because more enemies means more XP faster.
You can easily bury them to keep them safe
There's still the small possibility of a wandering abomination attacking one of your skeletons in just the right way to also hit a buried spawner. I'm sure it can be done, but it requires some thought.
LF a fresh start. havent played in awhile
OK I've been sitting at my base watching the Vineberry plants. It takes 1 hour for them to produce? It's been over an hour. I'll start a timer now
They're on a wood wall in front of a stone wall. Can there be something interfering with them producing? They all grew up the wood so I figured they were fine
"What are you doing today?"
"Watching Vineberries grow."
"Is that similar to watching paint dry or grass grow?"
"Nah, it's much slower."
Wood wall may not be high enough.
I noticed they actually need quite a height before being able to produce berries.
Are there any actual public servers in the Community tab of the game?
Ever checked this:https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
it seems the key symbol does not indicate if a server is privately password protected or not
as servers with it labeled or without it are all password protected
The reason they're password protected is that there are - unfortunately - some "players" around who like to enter public servers with a high level (like Mistlands or Ashlands geared) character, destroy items of new players, loot as much as they can, trigger the high level raids and leave.
Thus players prefer to play only with those they've invited themselves.
So what you can do is post in there to let other players know how you would like to play and with some luck you find a like minded person who doesn't ruin your game from the start.
how high must I go? I built it 4 high, only 1 is that hight the others are all seemingly stuck at 3 for some reason. As I said it's been like 90 mins since I logged on and they were established last time I was playing
Well, seeing the towers in Ashlands having Vineberries you may need more.
I've planted them against a stone tower I build myself., which is about 8-10m high and I have harvested a bunch of berries from those.
I think the issue may more be that they're planted to close to one another as not high enough.
The ones I set to grow on Grausten walls are a lot shorter as the ones growing on the stone walls. So it might more likely be a case of width as it it is of height.
Which brings me to the question: how close are the vine berries to one another and if you put your mouse pointer over it, does a message show up?
They are fairly close. No message shows up. Once day hits I can take a screen shot
Bro the spawn rate of enemies in the ashlands is insane, every time we get close to a fortress it spawns another wave of enemies
i made a lox saddle but not sure how to use it
Put it in an equipment slot with a hot-key. Put the mouse pointer on the back of the Lox and press that key to equip the saddle.
After that it should show message to use [E] to mount that saddle.
[W] and [S] will make it move, [shift] will make it run and it heads into the direction you look.
I always had a sense I was no one.
BTW: Works only on tamed Lox's
is that a mistlands thing?
Nope, plains.
how close to the mistlands can i get before something jumps out and kills me
yes
im on the plains next to a big wall of mist
You can get into Mistlands before that happens, but at night you may have deal with an attack before you enter.
But from what I've seen there's often a small zone without (many) monsters to attack you.
and i remember sailing past the plains to get to elder and i looked away for 1 second and got 1shot by a deathsquito
posted the SS in the help chat, that channel seems more applicable anyways
It's likely they are too close.
Also, the ones on the left have berries.
how do you tame something?
Trap it, feed it while not aggravated, hang out nearby for a few day/night cycles
anyone know what faders ID is?
In general when it eats and you make sure you're close enough and it won't get agroed, being 30 minutes nearby would be enough
It's most likely at the Wiki.
Perhaps check there?
ive alrdy checked there
IIRC starred critters take longer to tame
ah damn so i should not have started shooting this pack of 3 that i saw D:
What are you trying to tame?
Nope, still takes 30 minutes to tame.
But tame will be longer the moment they get the exclamation mark over their head or if you are too far away from them, as those two things will pause taming.
If you run away far enough they will eventually calm down
A spawner spawned in mid boss fight in the Ashlands 😕
My usual taming strategy is to use my pick to dig out a large hole near to max depth, then raise ground around it for good measure to keep them contained. I then aggro the critter and lead it toward the hole. When I get it close, I harpoon, drag it in, and then jump out
But yes that should be close enough. You may be able to tame all three at once if you throw about 10 cloudberries or barley in the midst of them
Once tame, though, they will aggro to everything in plains that is not a lox, so generally the best taming system is to confine and protect them
ill try the harpoon thing, seems like a pretty flawless plan, i killed all the goblins in the area already too
does it matter if there is a tad bit of water at the bottom of the hole?
Only if surtlings were tameable. All current tames should be fine with a little water.
Fader
if i put a bed next to the hole and sleep in it does the timer speed up
Nope. Need to remain awake.
how do i take them back to my base lol
why do the towers in fortresses not fall down wtf
One by one.
But if you got that saddle with you, you can ride them
Will shield slow your run speed also?
"normal" or magic one?
Both?
The ones you can craft will slow you down by 5%.
The one you can cast after starting to use magic won't. But the staff might if you keep holding it while running.
Stats of the crafted shields are shown when you select them at a crafting station, so it's easy to figure out.
Can also bring them up when having the mouse pointer over a shield or buckler.
im so far away from my base there is no way lol
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1115488682372235344/1245169267578765412/image.png?ex=6657c5bf&is=6656743f&hm=b1c77dfcd07d099c244625ce49f2dd220f5843874a7d889741aabef0529c29c0& i hope this is good enough lol it feels like hes gonna get out
is this 30 minutes of irl time?
Thanks
man, parrying a 2* charred with my frost staff is so satisfying
If you are able to remain close enough to see the yellow hearts, yes.
Just has to be the total time, right?
Total taming time, yes.
If you move too far away from the animals, agro or scare them or go to sleep, the total time will be longer.
is it pointless to tame two right now if i have one saddle and am playing solo?
dont know if its a known bug, but the iron cooking station is eating an additional raw deer meet, 6 vs 5, before saying it cant take more, yet it will only cook 5...
One at a time may be easier to move them.
But if you have the harpoon with you, you may try to ride one Lox and use the harpoon on the other one to drag it with you.
I've never tried it, so not sure if it works, but it's worth a throw..... ehm.... shot.
can you walk through a portal with a lox
I've never tried it, so I dunno.
I do know you can transport wolves with a longship, so it's worth a try.
wish i could tame moder!
I don't. Would make the game way too easy.
okay 1 of them has been tamed, i guess that wasnt too bad
They're tamed the moment you see pink hearts, instead of the yellow ones.
just started a new world, i've only played 1 other world and i never got past the elder lol. i wanna fight eikthyr but it's foggy, should i just do it anyways or wait for the next day so it isn't foggy
He's so big I don't see why not
ok thanks pookie
but at night, maybe risky with adds.
Eikthyr is kind of glowy...probably won't be too bad with fog. Underequipped and without food is probably not a good idea though.
you cant harpoon a lox after taming it
you can't harm tamed animals except with the butcher knife, unless you turn on the friendly fire option.
then you can harpoon them or beat them to death with your fists, if you want.
I have no idea how people manage to build without winding up with massive headaches.
apparently they can both get on the same longship but i have no idea how to get them inside one lol
saddle is probably the simplest
If you love the building its amazing, if you don't just make minimalist box that'll usually do and maybe a storage warehouse.
Where do I go to find private servers that can accommodate 1-50 Players?
I've been working on a little village for the entire day. I am exhausted, and stuck on putting rooves on the final structure.
I don't know how people do it.
Anyone know how to destroy the spikes at the top of ashlands fortress towers?
I often do layout, then structure and floor supports, then roof, then get to the inside and lay everything down properly, maybe cut your big village task into a more managable smaller chunks of building progress?
I also have to stop often when running out of materials, I dislike nobuildcost
I'm not seeing valheim in the current steam open world survival event
is that intentional? terraria is in there and I feel valheim shares a lot of the meta gameplay aspects to it
nevermind I am just blind XD
what is better carapace shield or carapace buckler
buckler
After two or three IRL days of staying in Black Forest/Meadows biomes (and one IRL day of killing the Elder), now it's time to explore this Swamp I found. I just hope I come across Haldor at some point so I can buy eggs from him after killing Moderfucker
you can only buy eggs from him after beating Yagluth
I know, I want to find him in advance so that I don't have to try to track him down after beating Yagluth
there is another way for eggs as well
before killing Yagluth
Huh, interesting 🤔
I can tell you if you want
to be able to use the eggs you'll need black marble though from mistlands, but you could start stockpiling eggs and chicken meat way earlier if you want etc
also because Yagluth is often one of the hardest bosses to actually find where he is unless you get lucky, his location is often found before a vegvisir is found pointing to him, or even a vegvisir sometimes 10 meters from his altar 😆
Ahh, I think I'll ask you what this method is after I defeat whatever the Ashlands boss is
Although I didn't know that black marble was now required to hatch eggs
not for hatching just for the foods that use it
should i still wear root chestplate in mistlands?
not without the barley wine, there isn't as much pierce damage there as in Mistlands, I'd use something else
the new light armour set of Ashlands is not super hard to get
There's a ton of pierce damage in the ashlands
not as much as in Mist though I though
well i just got to mistlands so ashlands is far awasy
That's just factually wrong
I could be wrong yes, possible
Wait what? Chickens no longer eat grains or seeds?
just thought of 4 monsters that dont do it
they still do
Hens actually don't think chickens do
they only eat once they grow up
Ah, so now eggs have a 50/50 chance of hatching into either a chicken or a hen?
Mistlands has seekers, broods, and ticks. Ashlands has valkyries, marksman, twitchers, warriors, morgens, and i'm 90% sure the fortress turrets do piercing as well.
okay I was wrong then
they have lots of mixed damage types alongside it, so damage reduction will not be as good against something that does 100% pierce
Bonemass is still god power
Seekers have mixed damage and yet the root harnesk is still very valuable against them
Fact is root harnesk is just a good item to have in a toolkit
even the warlock does pierce apparently
not sure just checked wiki
unless its not updated correctly yet, possible
also can i chug a poison and fire potion (resistance) at same time I don't remember of the top of my head
or if they share cooldown
So Root Armor?
My humor is broken...
hey guys is there a way to limit the spawn of stone golems or something im trying to mine a silver vain and in the past ten minutes iv killed three golems and now another has spawned. they arnt difficult its just a pain to have to fight every two minutes while trying to just grab some silver\
just to add to my proof i JUST NOW killed another and watched a new golem stand up infront of me
This game infuriates me
👀
can i play in a game with my friend from xbox gamepass if im on steam
I know that feeling
I still remember the first time I ever tried looking for a swamp, and the two plains biomes my intended swamp base was sandwiched between
And the metaphorical heart palpitations and bursted blood vessels from trying out Mistlands in PTB, and the first time I ever tried reaching Moder, taking me to a very shallow canal in the pre-Ashlands
the cart full of silver down the mountain to longboat is absolute mayhem
Save yourself the drama. Build a forge on the mountain
too much work
I tried to breed my asksvin they were 1 star, some charred mobs was attacking the fence of where they were they got let out, and ran away and despite them having 1.6k hp they died to like 3-4 charred mobs tf
I really need a 2 star asksvin
does the highest storage stuff all require iron to craft?
or will i get new storage stuff with black metal
im about to enter the plains and idk if i should get a bit more iron before starting my final base
It has less block force though doesn't it and I think the shield can parry too.
there is blackmetal chest that doesn't need iron
is it worth ignoring the iron storage options altogether then
Should only ever be using shield to parry not block what’s your point
In my base I upgraded from wood straight to black metal ones
yeah but shields handle mis-timed parries better
Even then parrying is a reactive strat and is outclassed by proactive strategies
thats what im thinking as well, thanks
my point is that the carapace shield can parry im pretty sure and has better blocking stats.
Weaker parry bonus though
parry bonus isnt really worth much tho tbh lol
It really is but okay 👍
is parrying bonus just extra damage after you parry?
no, its bonus block strength only
so as long as you can parry with the shield its always better to use one
a buckler is only better in the very specific situation where its parry bonus specifically puts your block strength above a stagger threshold
a parry will always result in the enemy taking x2 damage
nothing boosts that damage
Are you sure it's not dependent on backstab damage which knives has a huge bonus for?
backstabs arent even backstabs, they are the sneak attack damage
when the enemy hasnt detected you
but yes, parry bonus does not affect the damage you do when enemies have been parried
Damn we just got to the Ashlands with my friends, yesterday.
Our first attempt to land on the beach and place a portal was a big fail, thank Odin we can make more boats 🤡
i want to hold 2 shields
Build a base on the ocean spikes
It’s safer than the shore
Once you do get to shore, build a few campfires to reduce spawning directly in front of your landing space
We managed to put a portal on the shore, on one of the towers there
But yeah sounds like a great idea!
Morgen gjall.
hey guys, ive onyl dabbled little wit starting the game
am interested in trying it out more but idk if thats fun solo
hows the co op and is the experience better ? theres no pvp right ? or ? i dont know almost nothin about the game
Co-op is fine, you can either play together and go to the same areas together or go your seperate ways, if you are close together the mobs get tougher but if you are far apart they don't.
There is no pvp but there is a setting to turn friendly fire on and pvp could be had that way.
It is a solo game that can be played co-op.
Not the first time I died in Ashlands while jumping on Basalt platforms and suddenly getting instantly prodded to lava by a wild magma eruption appearing right next to me 😞 YASD, YASD so much
My only complaint about the ashlands so far is the enemy spawns are so high
Does using lingering health mead also prevent using normal health potions?
yes
bummer
leveling magic should also increase your eitr regen
maybe 25% at 100 for elemental and blood for a total of +50%
Is it just me or is in endgame as a melee user just better to go with 3 health foods instead of 2 health 1 stamina
because stamina regen nearly does not increase with extra stamina
I've been doing fine in Ashlands with 2 health 1 stam, albeit I haven't tried if it feels better with 3 health foods
so far I've ran all of ashlands with 3 health foods, stamina was often an issue but it specifically was the regen that was the problem, not the full amount
- I play on hardmode and 0 star warriors hits for like 120 damage
(I wear max level flametal armor)
Yep the regen speed is more of an issue for me aswell, though I do enjoy being able to kite around / take distance if things get heated and that's where max stamina is also useful
warriors are brutal man, the weapons are often too slow to get a hit in and dodge before they attack
Hardmode and normal are different beasts though so all things might not apply mutually between them.. For Ashlands health is not mainly the issue for me, except against starred monsters if they get through the block
unless you get lucky and they do a faint
Yep I hate warriors, mostly because of their mixed moveset including those feints etc.. Killed probably 500 so far and I still get jabbed every now and then because of those
I can parry their faints pretty well but often the counterattack is an issue due to stamina
Jump attacking with a sword or mace should give you enough time
A mace’s secondary attack also might be able to push them away far enough, that works for lord reto.
ah I did not think of the mace's secondary knockback
Yep... Mistwalker has the advantage of slowing them down just enough so you can kinda "keep them outside" and chip them slowly with single attacks aswell
I did often just demolisher knockback them
I mainly used the slayer so far but the damage output is so varied that there is a 50% chance whether or not a charred warrior gets stunned by a middle mouse hit or not
Also, while a bit risky (especially in hardmode), alot of the warrior attacks can be simply sidestepped; their target tracking is not amazing unlike Reto who will turn 180 degrees to land that blow on you mid swing
I really should use jump attacks more often, havent really tried it much against the warriors
I jump attack everything unless is something like a greydwarf that I can stagger with one hit, or something I can parry with my weapon (I use tower shields)
elden ring pvp just bloody forced my brain to almost never jump attack again 😭
Finally tamed my askvins, I started riding one and it died within 2 minutes
Glad I had the intelligence to gather eggs beforehand
Hey all, do you think Biomes like plains/mountains will eventually be looked at and stuff added/changes made to them?
We don't really know, but I guess they might before the full release yeah
I feel like there will be another hearth and home like update before Ashland’s that looks over the previous biomes and their content
thats fair i just find there feels like a stark difference compared to other biomes in terms of content
plains definitely deserves a second armor set
Yeah
i agree with that it feels like they are sorta one biome in terms of content Imo
What do you feel like is missing from mountains?
I just feel like maybe some more resources and enemies, and the spawning for certain enemies in the mountains is really inconsistent like the golem essentially sniffs your scent and it will b line straight to you
Plains needs a dungeon type 100% i think its the only biome without a specific dungeon other than meadows iirc like a crypt etc
I think golem dropping silver ore would make fighting him more worth it
yeah 100% i just think he needs to be less aggresive too as i once tried living there and i had to make the "golem pit"
I saw a interview with one of the devs where they didn’t want every biome following the same formula
understandable, plains still feels like the worst biome imo, its so empty feeling
I like the look of the plains
it does look great
but it does feel a bit empty
I definitely get the vibe that plains is the endgame meadows
Perfect for a base
With good biome overlap
Any specific good usage for tamed askvins besides their meat and hide? I don't see too much point to riding them as of now
I mean fuck deathsquitos, otherwise yeah
yeah you can sorta see that when going from BF to shreks swamp the way you get essential resources is so different like iron and bronze, but yeah other than certain stuff plains feels very empty at times especially if world gen treats you wrong!
I think plains could benefit from a convoy event
A group of fulings travelling alongside a lox pushing a new kind of cart with loot inside from village to village
maybe even a lox rider fuling who throws spears
Sounds op
I mean you’d have to play it smart just like when taking on fuling villages
Can’t just go in guns blazing, the rider could even hold the key to unlock the lox cart chest so you can’t just dash in and dash out
I’m just imagining a band of vikings looking over a valley at a convoy of fulings, sending a volley of arrows to kill the rider and having a speedy stealth Viking run in and try grab the key and loot and dash
Tamed a 1 star askvin and charred warriors can just 4 shot them :/
do trees regrow if you leave stump ?
New player here. Can the game be completed solo?
I do
It's a solo game, so yeah.
The game is balanced for singleplayer
Thanks
No, they won't.
Might as well remove the stump too.
Do tree in the wild respawn ?
No.
Small bushes that give 1 wood ?
Nope
berry bushes do not respawn either, do not break them unless you have to
in fact a massive tip I have is to mark every single large mushroom/berry bush cluster you see on the map, you will not regret it.
Remove the stump as they can get in the way while running from a troll or whatever
Same with those green logs and stumps
they need to reduce spawn rates in ashlands im fighting like 3 minibosses everytime i run anywhere, or make it so smokepots can get aggro off of you
Did you start the Ashlands from an existing map? There was a bug that made the spawners hide inside rocks and a fix only stopped it from occuring and not retroactively fixing it
They did, massively.
does anyone know if greylings spawn on cultivated soil or near seeds?
I wanna make my entire meadows base surroundings soil for farming
Okay found the page on wiki and cultivation does not block enemy spawning
Was just typing that, you need player base structures nearby to stop spawning.
Yeah seems like the best option will be campfires spread throughout the farmland
Check the spawn protection radius with a workbench and place a campfire there is one option.
Digging a hole, putting a workbench in, connecting the workbench with something that will stay above ground, like a beam you use to make border around your farm land, closing the hole with the hoe to heighten terrain and then flattening it is another more tedious but better looking approach.
if I die my loot stays forever if not for how long ?
the grave will be there until all items are taken out
I wonder how big the difficulty difference really is between hardmode and normal mode is
because its a 1.5x damage multiplier on all mobs but isnt it more like 1.8x most of the time or something due to the armor mechanics?
No, if anything it's less than 1.5 due to how armor works
Resistances and weaknesses also become a lot more significant for the player
Forever as long as there is one item in there.
So you could actually make a graveyard that can double as storage, you will have to make sure that you always have enough in your inventory so the gravestone doesn't get depleted else it will disappear.
I personally doubt that from the past playtroughs I did do on normal mode, damage seems to be more than 1.5x
but I guess I can be wrong
I've done a few hard and very hard playthroughs, things like root chest really carry
But armor becomes less effective the more % of a mobs damage is blocked. I believe after you block 50% of it's damage, your remaining armor is less effective.
So if you have 10 armor and a mob does 10 damage, the first 5 armor will block 5 damage, and the next 5 armor will block less than 5
If they had 15 damage, the first 7.5 armor would block 1 damage, and the other 2.5 would block reduced damage
preferably, don`t get hit
conclusion you are a glass cannon
Except you also have your damage lowered so you're really just a glass
It becomes less effective in absolute numbers, but it always gives you the same relative survival boost.
If you have 10 armor vs 10 damage the first 5 armor will block 5 damage (halving it), the 5 after that will block 2.5 (halving it again). Another 5 armor would only reduce damage by 1.25 but that still lets you take double the number of hits than 10 armor before dying.
The current maximum armor value in Ashlands is 142 (l3 flametal armor & ashen cape). With even non-starred Ashlands enemies doing 150+ damage per hit you don't ever get enough armor for diminishing returns to be a real concern even in vanilla, let alone hard and vh. The issue is more that you can't really get enough armor to make a noticable difference for the latter.
I just surrounded my base with ashwood stakewalls, its bloody comical how much stronger they are than the dverger ones and how cheap they are
If I knew about them earlier I mightve used them in ashlands combat 🤔
||Lightning Berserkir Axes, troll staff||
probably the best and cheapest hosting for this game is valhost, love it so far
staff of the wild and trollstav
though dundr oneshots a lot of stuff once you get your skills up.
What about the mace? I feel like most of the Ashlands is weak to blunt
id probably be good for ashlands itself but i think he was just naming the 2 most powerful overall
I don't think I've seen anything that's weak to blunt other than lava blobs
the only mob in Ashlands weak to blunt are lava blobs, and you don't melee them (they blow up automatically once you get in melee range).
though not many things are resistant either, only morgen iirc
Wait the skeletons aren’t?
nope, charred are only weak to spirit
I did not know that thanks
really i find all the skeletons are except the ones in armor
maybe i was just doing to much dmg overall to notice
these are no normal skeletons
silver sword is actually really good in Ashlands against charred and fallen valkyries because it does so much spirit damage and costs a quarter less stam to swing than Mistwalker and the Ashlands swords
The frost effect is elite tho
yeah i would like to have a biome in wich mountains weapons are not the best ones
it exists, it's the mountain
Mountains?
Frostner kind of sucks there.
I main mist and buckler. Just upgraded to the flametal shield
yeah frostner is good in every biome exept the one where its made
Like ooze bombs
also, how come the mistwalker doesn't perform better than the frostner?
ohhh, spirit damage...
frost damage
It does
crowd control
Mistwalker does more damage on paper but you're not getting full combos in practice and mace knockback is great for staying alive.
both have 40 frost
Upgrade it
however the mistwalker only gets 5 spirit damage per level, so it maxes out at 15 compared to the frostner's consistent 20
Frostner also has 35 blunt
Mistwalker has 75 slash
Frostner only uses 12 stamina
mistwalker 16
Mistwalker has a faster attack though.
35 blunt + 40 frost + 20*1.5 spirit = 105, using 12 stamina
75 slash + 40 frost + 0 spirit = 115, using 16 stamina
where did you get 32 from
32 is for 2nd attack
Faster attack speed and range
At those base stats, it's better.
Upgrading it makes it even better because of the extra 15 spirit
Heavy
Frostner doesn’t have cleave, mistwalker does; should be a point of analysis
That as well
If we're talking about on-paper dps we should at least compare upgraded weapons... particularly since they're all from at least 1 biome prior.
L4 Mistwalker: 75 slash + 58 frost + 15 spirit + 7.5 for weakness = 155.5 for 16 stam
L4 Frostner: 35 blunt + 58 frost + 20 spirit + 10 for weakness = 122 for 12 stam
L4 Silver Sword: 93 slash + 45 spirit + 22.5 for weakness = 160.5 for 12 stam, no frost though.
Frostner kinda suffers from the comparatively minor damage increase it gets from upgrades so it falls behind quite a bit. But the mace knockback + frost combo is still as powerful as ever defensively.
ahh, silver sword 🤔
is root chestplate still good for mistlands or should I craft something else
It will still serve you well for the pierce resistance, though you should mix and match it with other armors that have more defense.
So you have decent armor with the pierce resistance.
Still waiting for someone that mains crystal battleaxe to confirm me how good it holds in ashlands
Still waiting for someone that mains crystal battleaxe*
is there anything better then the cart for transporting items over land? cause its literally useless. it cant get over minor bumps and get stuck on literally everything constantly
You need to build roads if you're going longer distances and/or throw them off mountainsides to get them to the ground level quickly.
But no, there is nothing better.
you can ride a lox or asksvin no matter your encumbrance. Their speed is unaffected even if you carry an entire inventory full of metal ore.
Portal for not metal things.
Portal at gathering point and running /riding to where you want it then portalling back and running again is often times faster than the cart for metals.
portaling helps some. but if your mining nodes, are nowhere near an ocean, then getting them across land is impossible to the point of ruining the game experiance
im tempted to turn on metals via portal just to make it somewhat fair
That's part of the game, choosing your base location wisely or deciding to make outposts.
If this is your first playthrough just know that the game will not hold your hand. There are going to be a ton of experiences that you need to learn from in order to figure out the best way to do things for you.
The thing me and my buddy do is making a base near or in the next biome where we will be gathering the metal from, have a smelter and a forge nearby so we can make our weapons there and then move onto the next.
We first scout out the place to see if there is enough metal nearby to make it worth our time.
We are now in a big swamp with lots of crypts and have a mountain nearby that seems pretty large, once we finish bonemass we will take a quick gander in the mountains to see how many silver pings we get and decide if we can keep using this base or we need to relocate to a better mountain.
this is like my 5th playthough. i know how to play
We don't know that and are just trying to help.
Then you're a masochist who knew what he was getting into 😉
Compare these to the Ashlands equivalent weapon.
Have the devs ever mentioned any plans to do an overhaul on the crafting menu UI? I feel like that's getting really untenable with how much crap there is in the various menus in the later game
if you want to play with portals everything on, go for it. After many hours in this game I think the server settings is the best update yet. Don't be afraid to use them to make the game a better experience for you.
L2 lightning Nidhogg does 141 slash + 10 lightning + the proc, not sure what the base damage on that is. So 151 +X for 16 stam.
L2 primal Nidhogg does 141 slash + 10 poison. The proc doesn't do any damage on top of that iirc so it's just 151 for 16 stam. Also pretty much everything in Ashlands except Morgen is resistant or immune to poison.
same for dyrnwyn except (edit: and dyrnwyn has 151 base damage at l2) with 10 fire damage and blood Nidhogg obviously depends on your hp.
Nope
Hey! I main'd a crystal battleaxe for a time. I'm not sure I'd want to try that solo, though.... Definitely better when playing as a group.
mostly people who uses debugmode and freebuild have the big problems 🤔
I've debated bringing it to the ashlands for fun....
I’ve got no way to prove it but I’m pretty sure burial chambers further and further from spawn increase in size on average
