You can sorta do it with the wall mounts

half dragon
#

Maybe trees are evil... they walk around when you don't watch and even eat birds?! How else would they drop feathers! Inconceivable

warm sandal
half dragon
#

no, that would be too simple... they're clearly plotting something

plush umbra
#

first they learn to walk and now they grow feathers and fly?

warm sandal
#

the new players early demise they are plotting for sure... more then one fell on my head while woodcutting πŸ˜„

ember panther
#

How else did the world tree get up there?

half dragon
#

I've seen one of those assholes do a 90 degree sideways swing just to hit my beehive out of spite... that was bizzarre to watch. I'm not even joking, just before it hit the ground it suddenly started moving sideways

#

Something must have been near the trunk to cause that but still looked crazy

plush umbra
#

its fun trying to get some big chain reactions with the trees

half dragon
#

oh for sure, works great with tightly planted tree farm

warm sandal
#

it is... i did it just today...planted beeches and then started cutting them down from uphill saves a lot of hewing if they just cascade πŸ˜„

#

the upper floor and roof of my new Base near the Mist (on the plains side mind you) needs quite some wood πŸ˜„

half dragon
#

I just have 4 carts for hauling them to kilns, and they tend to speed up the cutting process a lot. I do 1 overhead swing to cut it, it falls on another tree, cut it again to cut the trunk and split the tree, it cuts down the tree it fell on. If it doesn't cause chain reaction, cut another leaning tree and trunk

strange arrow
#

pop Elder and whack away

warm sandal
#

just make sure you ate...because a tree on your head at 25hp works as a suicide method just as well as falling from your roof at 25hp πŸ˜„

half dragon
#

doesn't make that big of a difference when you've got jotun bane. 1 overhead is enough to cut down a beech.

strange arrow
half dragon
#

saves some time and stamina since would only need 1 normal swing instead... but 5 minutes of that isn't going to help me a lot

forgetful player that i am i forget that there is an elder power as soon as i hang the head πŸ˜› ... i even forget to uses bonemass and go into melee with bugs 😦 a wonder i do not die all the time πŸ˜„

half dragon
#

does it hit trees faster? kinda expected it to have the good old scuffed slow cutting animation

strange arrow
sharp raptor
#

I personally use the bloodstone on slower weapons like the slayer

kind pendant
half dragon
#

blood shield is kinda cheating vs. queen. I didn't take a single point of damage to my health from enemies. only from me casting the shield

Yo, I'm looking for someone to play with on my valheim world, I'm decently new to the game with only 15ish hours, I just beat the elder and would like to be able to adventure with someone please hmu

half dragon

Also queen is very nice to you and yeet you far away when she breaks your shield, gives you time to apply it again

sharp raptor
half dragon

has anyone tried properly if parrying reduces the damage shield takes?

warm sandal
strange arrow
#

quick breather defo in order for that

steel copper
#

The problem with blood weapons is the dmg output is not worth it

warm sandal
#

i was really scared to fight the Queen but putting eitr on the ground for her to walk on green pearls does help reduce the insane amount of hp she has πŸ˜„ and sending fire the broods way goes a long way to survive πŸ˜„

sharp raptor
half dragon
#

At some point I just stopped focusing on culling their numbers and only fire a ball at them when queen isn't available to be blasted

#

one of the perks of magic, no stamina for attacking so you can use it to round around

steel copper
warm sandal
#

I use 1 eitr 1 health and 1 stamina food...gives me enough to have a bubble and fire 2 shots of fire then dodge and wait for eitr regen

#

so i have enough hp not to get oneshot by some seeker πŸ˜„

steel copper
#

Sometimes I use 2 Eitr and 105 HP with Flametal armor full battle mage seems to work pretty well for most magic and sword and shield while Eitr is regen'ing

warm sandal

what i can not shot dead with fire i will hit on the head with some other weapon got pretty good at switching weapons πŸ˜„

half dragon

a good lightning extra long poking stick makes for good backup

warm sandal

i like the atgeir best to get rid of them damn ticks fast as i can they trigger me ... hate them so much

It's really nice when you can just poke them mid jump relatively safely

warm sandal
#

one round swing does the trick usually πŸ˜„ then back to my spear πŸ˜„

# steel copper everyone must try it

Ive been running berzerker askvin mostly but I recently made the new mage set and fully upgraded a staff of the wild for my next boss attempt. He just does too much aoe to fight in melee range solo

Honestly I find Queen harder to melee than Fader. Due to Queen's absurd knockback.

steel copper

would be nice to be able to follow up on that spear from from distance, or yeet a spear at 1 while continuing poking that other one

warm sandal
#

or just knive them mobs down... knives are fab... very underrated weapons i am a knife and spear person love them

half dragon
#

Was about to pickup knife for my 2nd chara, but then found out that there's no knife or Atgeir in ashlands update...

warm sandal
#

I am very curious about the ashlands spear option (i know nothing about ashlands have been avoiding spoilers best i could - i just read names here and there and that is that

mossy river

I badly wanted to keep rolling with knives, but they just don't keep up on damage. I switched to thunder axes, which are definitely not a true knife replacement. But they're very good.

steel copper

I am not aware of any new variations... i have not been to the ashlands yet... i want to discover by my lonesome self...that is why i was avoiding all spoilers best i could

have you been to mistlands?

tight yacht
#

what biomes do you usually do major builds in?

warm sandal

I feel spirit damage should be instant damage instead of damage over time.

warm sandal
lament briar
#

I used mistwalker and frostner all the time in Mistlands. I almost abandoned Frostner in plains because it knocked Fulings way too far for me to get a good whack at them... and they didn't take spirit damage.

sharp raptor
lament briar
#

But Frostner was my best friend against seeker soldiers.

warm sandal
#

lol I used frostner just for that purpose... if they are far away from me I can control better when to whack them and when to walk away a bit πŸ˜„

#

same with the bugs..the slowing effect is for a person with low armor a godsent

lament briar
#

I have a question. Will plants wither under an iron grid roof?

warm sandal
#

I am almost sure they will ... it will say "needs an open sky"

lament briar

steel copper

Which crops can be planted in ashlands?

sharp raptor
lament briar
#

what

#

So you pick up something and it's sorry, you can't do that here

#

Definitely getting the plant all mod >>

warm sandal
#

hm... i see i am much more of a "slapdash" gamer then... i never bother to take out all the bronze there is below...just take what is visible, never build anything special to tame boars (in fact i do not tame boar and wolf at all) i just build a stakewallaround a field and call it good πŸ˜„

sharp raptor
#

Pretty much. But the vines you harvest will grow in most other biomes but in ashlands it says its too hot

lament briar
ember panther
#

That's actually wild. You can't grow them on fortresses

warm sandal
#

well you can not grow anything but fir trees in the mountains either...so no bother... πŸ˜„ i have a plainsbase near the mist for farming πŸ˜„

tight yacht
#

trolls and greydwarves every 2 seconds

#

i build my first meadows base near the forest if i can

#

best possible location for me is that ring of 5 large stones, near the ocean and the black forest

warm sandal
#

lol... i always build my prettiest base in the Forest πŸ˜„ meadows is plain boring ... like forest better

tight yacht
#

then if i find a good blueberry/thistle spawning area ill put down one forest outpost location from there

#

so far ive just done one outpost in each biome near a good spot for their specific resources

#

in the forest ive got one in an abandoned tower, same in the swamps and on a big mountain area

warm sandal
#

no outposts either for slapdash-gamer-me

tight yacht
#

i tried making the forest tower look "reclaimed" but i didnt bother with the rest

#

i.e. i shored up defenses, actually put a roof on it, made staircases and all that

#

then i realized i never stay there and just portal in, loot, and return to my real base

half dragon
#

there isn't much of a good spot for them, best you can find is maybe 8 blueberry bushes in 1 cluster... berries are very spread out and would rather recommend marking all of them in the map and their number, then deciding on a good path between worthy clusters .

river forge
#

Nowhere is safe

tight yacht
#

so thats what i did for the next 3 biomes lol, but plains ill make my real base

river forge
#

Once invasions start

tight yacht
#

actually large area for farming, way more storage, legit walled defenses with earthworks instead of the wood walls and spikes i have for meadows base

#

right now everything is stuffed into my wall in the meadows base and its really starting to get cramped

half dragon
#

plains is great biome for main HQ

tight yacht
#

yeah thats what ive picked up from asking around, seems to be the consensus

#

actually worth doing stuff like digging a moat, raisingg the earth so things cant just blast your walls down and ruin your base

river forge
#

Earth walls

tight yacht
#

they can with my meadows base, luckily ive been able to kill them before they got past the spike ring

half dragon
#

it has it all. looks great, relatively flat, can farm every plant up until that point... nice music too

river forge
#

Needed

tight yacht
#

once the troll invasion happened thats when i knew meadows with a palisades wall and spikes aint gonna cut it anymore

river forge
#

Wait till you get the message "they were bros"

warm sandal
#

I never had any thing ruining my base so much that it would bother me... sure like 3 roof tiles fell of when the troll hit them but hey... normally if there is a raid (hardly get those not at home most of the time) i will go outside and give them a whack anyway for disturbing me while building or cooking πŸ˜›

half dragon

earth walls are not needed if you find a good island or in general good spot for spawn proofing

river forge
#

warm sandal
#

I have not made an earth wall in ages... trolls stop at a 4m high stone wall and i can shoot them before the wall goes down or go out and spear them whilee dogerolling... i even did not have much trouble with bugs in the plains because of 20 Lox watch dogs πŸ˜„ never bother to do more than a stonewall that will stop stuff from walking amongst my buildings πŸ˜„

river forge

That won't happen, things come to ruin your day

#

Tame lox help

#

I feel like I got trolled earlier

#

Ballista set to target all

#

half dragon
#

also my preference for protection would be mix of moat and wall. Raise my side of the moat and lower the other side of the moat, so it looks more like an embankment

warm sandal
#

the only animals i will tame and breed are lox... and have a heard of 20 or 30 will suffice to protect your base...had a "hunted" event and just ran around putting bubbles on the babies and let the lox do the fighting... lost not one lox and no baby and picked up 46 wolf meat afterwards πŸ˜„

mossy river

I found a Queen vegvisir in the bottom center of the map, and it pointed me to the left edge of the map. I said screw that and went straight to ashlands.

warm sandal

river forge

If either of you want, I can post the screenshots.

warm sandal

i usually go for 2 health and one stamina... unless i have magic already then 1 health 1 stam 1 eitr and i still can survive just fine πŸ˜„ the bubble helps a lot

strange arrow

using health food when you have a bubble is just wasting eitr or stam

lament briar

I do fine without fish and bread. If you need a stamina food in mistlands, you can do fine with salad, glazed chicken, and misthare supreme

nocturne wolf
#

I used to do 2 health 1 stamina but now I’m trying 2 stamina 1 health and that’s working out quite well

#

You still get decent health because the stamina foods give a bit of health too

warm sandal
#

it depends on playstyle a lot ... but without stamina it is very hard to fight or dodge and that will kill you faster than having only 180 hp in the mist

lament briar
#

If you plan on parrying a bunch of things, I suggest you go for 2 health 1 stam.

#

If you plan on exploring, 2 Stam 1 health. Building... full Stam.

And there's a boar runestone just nearby so I can get enough leather to build a raft.

pliant hatch

If you use trophies on balistae, you might need one for each monster you could encounter.
Which - seeing your previous message - means fullings, seekers and several ashland chars.
So that's 5-6 balistas all set for one possible monster.

full apex
#

so i built a basement for brewing, but it seems you cant build things below a certain depth for some reason

pliant hatch

And out of those monsters, only the seekers are most likely being hit as the other ones may be too fast.

But....

No, but they spawn in several biomes at night.

i mean it would fill with smoke if it was enclosed and i could place it

pliant hatch
#

If you can place a kiln or smelter, the height is good enough.
The smoke will in general move out of the way as well.
If the smelter is sticking a bit through the other floor, it's even better, as you can place a hearth over it and get two birds with one stone.

#

If you, however, got a problem with water flowing over the floor every now and then, you actually dug a bit too deep. And I know that sounds odd, but the reason for it is that the water level in this game is at a preset level. Meaning that with certain weather conditions, even the water close to a coastal area will rise and fall.

You might most likely just got above waterlevel with that.
At least I'm glad it worked; even if it's a big ugly looking.

But you might try to deal with that by placing something around that pilar, like stone stairs, giving the false impression you did it on purpose. πŸ˜‰

# ornate sigil <@155500587562041344> that's news to me...like "i dug myself out of the ground b...

I think it just clipped up from the ground. What I think is happening is that mobs from inside dungeons/mines are somehow getting/clipping out? The first time it happened, over a dozen seekers plus some ticks appeared out of nowhere, and it was roughly the amount of seekers/ticks left in the mine (the same amount of starred seekers) when I was finally able to go back in. I saw one look like it came out of the ground, but it's misty so it's hard to tell exactly what's happening but they are appearing out of seemingly nowhere as there was no audio of enemies before they appeared. It usually happens after using a portal

#

This last set of enemies was near the queen, so I can't confirm if the amount matches what's inside because I haven't unlocked it yet

I never saw this behavior after extensive time in the mistlands prior to the ashlands update

Hi Everyone! After upgrading my gpu to RX 6800 I realized that valheim runs very bad on amd cards. On 1440p ultra dips to 50s

#

Thats very bad, really bad performance

#

This card should melt this game even on 4k

mossy river
#

What's your CPU?

#

There is no CPU that can tame Valheim or other building games with dynamic environments.

#

So expect to be CPU limited at times.

pulsar mortar
#

(Lack of ability to post pics is pain sometimes) We plan to sail into a small bay, near Fader altar, then move towards first fort and there make base.

mossy river
#

There's your problem right there

#

Not that more shouldn't be done by the developers to make Valheim more performant. But all the physics in this game are going to push your CPU the limit.

#

Anything with building and lots of pathfinding will sneak up on you and hammer your CPU. Timberborn doesn't make any CPU reviews, but it will kill any CPU eventually.

#

It's honestly one of the reasons I'm sort of disillusioned with hardware reviews.

#

RX 6800 is very well priced right now, wow. So definitely a good call picking one up.

half dragon
#

which one of them? Checking local prices they range from nearly 600 to 1300 euros

Well far more reasonably priced there. almost every local option asks for almost 600

hey guys! could somebody recommend a no skill drain mod (for my own server)? i am solo and keep dying in ashlands and it gets too difficult with my skills back to 20 :(

half dragon
#

back to 20? And I thought dipping some of my skills below 70 was bad. Yea for sure would recommend that. 20 is a bit low to deal with ashlands

azure yacht
half dragon
#

It's kind of silly how dying in this game makes dying even easier

#

players that are already struggling just end up getting kicked while down even harder

#

think it would be good idea to set milestones for skills so they cannot drop below that line once you reach it

#

the death penalty still ensures your skill level will not go past certain point when you keep dying too often tho

#

would also make using multiple different weapons more doable

#

which they're clearly trying to encourage with leaving out weapons in latest biomes...

#

just sucks the weapon I was planning to try wasn't included and I guess I'm not trying that weapon now

gray patrol
#

i like it the way it is as default. you're too weak for something? get better come back. it will take some time yeah, but otherwise you can just rush everything and get max lvls

half dragon
#

or come back and lose all the levels again... what you going to do? Go somewhere else to level up, then try again, lose levels, go away, come back to lose more?

gray patrol
#

it's just my personal opinion, i like games that are actually a challenge

plush umbra
half dragon
#

levels are just an endless grind tho

azure yacht
#

That people choose to do despite being utterly unnecessary

half dragon
#

losing them sucks a lot. Only players that are already good at this kind of games have a chance to maintain a high level

pulsar mortar
#

Best way is to play with friend and confuse AI

half dragon
#

Maybe wasn't necessary before Ashlands, but with this new difficulty spike you kinda NEED every advantage you can get if you're a melee player

azure yacht
#

Not anyone else's fault that people decide to actively grind for levels rather than letting them level up by just playing. That's on themselves

half dragon
#

you already saw an example what happens without grinding (without high skill)... it just stays low

azure yacht
#

reaches end of ashlands completely solo with skill levels at less than 30

Cool

half dragon
#

cool, now are you going to play the game for everyone else?

azure yacht
#

Is that related to anything...?

half dragon
azure yacht
#

It is... Because it's an example that skills are way too overrated and not the most essential thing that people make them to be.

The fact that I could reach final stages of ashlands at that level range means that the biome is far from being super difficult or even impossible

#

Actively grinding them is worthless if you might lose them anyway, best to just let them level up on their own via normal playtime

half dragon
#

you do realize that skilled dark souls players can finish the game without taking a single hit and do it with a garbage weapon? That doesn't prove anything. Most people aren't going to be able to replicate that, ever

#

What the current system does it punish players that already struggle and reward skilled players that do not need higher skill levels to boost their damage

azure yacht
#

Good thing valheim is not DS or have any close similarity to it other than dodge roll

half dragon
#

good job completely ignoring the point... I don't really see you ever arguing in good faith

azure yacht
#

It's the same people

#

Of course it's punishing, that's the encouragement to become better. The main issue is people refuse to see this and just try to do things in the least efficient way possible and then complain about game being broken.

My brother in Odin, the issue is not the game, it's you not using the tools at your disposal

#

I repeat, the experienced player that die less now were also the same players that died every three seconds in the past.

something a lot of new players have to learn to hard way is don't mine at night in black forest. you'll spend more time killing enemies than hitting that rock

azure yacht
#

It's very evident

steep girder
#

Well even if it was so, that's purely semantics.. Having 10 spawn locations within a 10 yard radius, each spawning a mob at fixed (staggered) interval; compared to having 1 spawn location within a 10 yard radius, spawning a mob at a fixed (staggered) interval is still gonna end up with the prior spawning 10 times more monsters within a given timeframe

#

And it surely is staggered, all the mobs in the biome don't spawn simultaenously... So this'll leave you with getting another mob spawning way more frequently in a given area, than in other biomes
