The seventh biome is the ashen lands, right?

hot fern
#

you just can't upgrade root without level 5 workbench

vale geode
#

what are the other two?

bright rock
#

And I personally consider iron armor set to be a trap

hot fern
#

again, helmet is always worth it

distant citrus
hot fern
#

especially past bronze age.

vocal rivet
distant citrus
#

But if Bronze is worth it and Iron ain't, should I go Bronze > Mountain?

vocal rivet
hot fern
#

who said that?

bright rock
#

Sometime you don’t get that much iron to work around

#

Iron stuff are really expensive

hot fern
#

to be honest man, it's all with your playstyle. to be real, if you're getting hit a lot in the game, full iron fully upgraded is the best route you can go. it's more experienced players that are more comfy with less, because they know the game.

#

full upgraded armor in any biome, i mean.

#

other than the root harnesk being stronger against some mobs because of the pierce resistance.

vale geode
hot fern
#

plus, if you're a new player, getting armor means you will spend more time in that biome, effectively increasing your playtime. so if you aren't a rush, there's no need to skip.

bright rock
#

This is valheim, it’s not Yggdrasil

#

Ask the dev to make Yggdrasil and we might be able to climb the tree lmao

faint nebula
#

in the game lore, Odin needed somebody to give the creatures of Valheim a beatdown. Theres an expectation that the end-game might include valhalla but other worlds are unlikely.

distant citrus
hot fern
#

it's great for plains, spear fulings, seekers

#

it's even good for the swamp imo

#

kinda wish they would nerf it 🙂

distant citrus
#

Hahahaha, because it feels too good to pass on in terms of how it competes with other armors?

bright rock
#

Well the down side is that it has limited armor rating o3o

distant citrus
#

Mountain armor looks the best from what I've seen so far

hot fern
#

in my opinion, the root harnesk is extremely imbalanced

#

the armor number doesn't even matter that much, you literally remove like 50% of pierce damage, for a piece of gear you get in the third biome

#

which is so much more than armor is, the only reason not to use it is if you actually struggle melee or you don't have fire res pots

#

i find most of the danger i encounter in the game is due to ranged stuff sneak attacking me, the root harnesk pretty much removes that danger

#

bow draugers, 2* spear fulings, etc

#

2* skeletons, stuff like that

bright rock
#

It does make the ticks abit less dangerous in the mines gotta give it that, the starred ticks are the menace

vocal rivet
bright rock
#

Well Odin cut it so his angry neighbor couldn’t bother him

hot fern
#

ah, that's right, i forgot: dverger rogues also

#

let me shut up though, ggs!

distant citrus
#

Is it easy to farm the resources for Root Armor?

hot fern
#

depends on your progression and skill, but it's not too bad. Each Abomination in the swamp drops 5 root, and you need 10 root to craft a single piece. then upgrades are 2 -> 4 -> 6 root

frozen void
#

you cant make highest one until you visit mountains anyway

distant citrus
#

Ahh I see, thanks for the insightful answers!

#

I've got one more unrelated question, how exactly does aggro work? Will I be attacked/my home, if I'm inside? Does it have to do with line of sight or will they just know I'm inside and attack the walls/stuff?

faint nebula
#

most mobs are sound-triggered. especially using a pick or axe

frozen void
#

if they hear you theyll break stuff to get to you, unless certain there's other things like workbenches, torches, etc then they might destroy those first

distant citrus
#

I see, so activating a workbench might trigger them too?

bright rock
#

I’m pretty sure there’s a graph for that

hot fern
#

One thing I love most about playing on a pretty active multiplayer server: When I come back on, all the raspberries and crops are ready 🙂

frozen void

uncut bough
#

i used to dread skeletons so much because it hits like a truck, but with a decent leather armor and a...club, and shield, i can now take on Skellies

bright rock
#

It’s quite satisfying to see tbhThinkingTroll

uncut bough
#

troll caves are still mad annoying to fight though, not much room to maneuver which leads to troll scoring easy hits

bright rock
#

Early game is always fun like that

hot fern
bright rock
#

I think you can parry troll with wooden shield if you eat enough food and have enough protection from armor

uncut bough
#

i had a friend who played with me, so i can still tell him to tank the Troll with the shield while i stay behind and shoot it with arrow

#

the boney shield saved him big time tho, i saw the troll swung at his direction like 7-9 times, while i slowly chip away its health before going in for the kill with the bronze ax

hot fern
#

nice

#

teamwork OP

bright rock
#

Had a friend swinging hammer and great axe behind me while I tower shield the entrance of a mine to not let whatever inside goes out, it was pretty effective albeit abit slow

uncut bough
#

it is really painful to grind bronze. First i got a smelter and a kilt, then the production of metal is tooo slow

vocal rivet
uncut bough
#

then i go create 1 more for both, then i dont have enough coal most of the time. Got me the coal, but then lack the ore. Mined ore, wait for another century before the next batch of metal is finished

#

it is hilarous how Copper is objectively harder to mine than Tin, but then it takes 2 goshdarn Copper and 1 Tin to make bronze

hot fern
#

with 2/2, I feel the production isn't too bad at all, can do other things meanwhile like farm, make food, etc

uncut bough
#

just created the trolley to work with the transportation of ore, and i already hated it soo much

cosmic oak
#

How much time did everyone else spend trying to position the kiln so that the coal would fall in to the smelter 😂

bright rock
#

Burial chambers near center of the world aren’t that dangerous, I guess the main threat are the ghosts but you can dispatch those with bows if you do it correctly

hot fern
#

also, a nice trick is to consistently make coal even when you don't need it right now, that way when you do need it, you can just fuel pure smelters with all the coal you made

uncut bough
#

the area with copper are usually hilly and behind a lot of trees, so the cart with just scrape here and there and break apart

#

i crafted 2 carts for me and my pal to go mine Ores, mine broke when i almost there because there are so many goddamn tiny birch tree that still has hitboxes and still damage my cart

hot fern
#

bring an axe with you next time and actively carve out a clean path for you to walk, it helps a lot in the forest

bright rock
#

You can place down a crafting table and fix it in 3 seconds before continuing tho

uncut bough
#

and after we mined the entire mountain of Copper, it was dusk, so we tried going home, but then he unknowingly equipped shield and spear while roleplaying transporting mule

hot fern
#

your pal can also help clear, makes carting a breeze

bright rock
#

Axe and pickaxe are the two most important things I always bring

uncut bough
#

so he was moving at a snail pace and get defeated by slightly elevated cliff, and soon enough it was nighttime and suddenly a lot of the annoying mobs and Shaman started swarming us

hot fern
#

although half the time i just run through the forest and teleport back, i hate the forest hills for carts

bright rock
#

My bronze axe had so much abomination kills

cosmic oak
uncut bough
#

i even had to push the cart with him by running into the cart so he can climb the cliff

hot fern
#

what am i doing with my life, where i'm actually just searching for rocks in the black forest to mine stone

uncut bough
#

but then he gave up, so i took over the mule work instead, and since i was using only a bronze knife, and using the skill, i easily sprinted home with the entire haul

#

it was a good 55 copper ore

bright rock
#

1 deposit should have more than that ThinkingTroll

uncut bough
#

nope, 55

bright rock
#

You don’t dig down?

uncut bough
#

or maybe the other part of the ore might be behind more rocks in which case, idk

bright rock
#

All the way until you can’t go further

uncut bough
#

no i dont dig dowwn

pliant hatch
#

Usually a copper node has close to 100 ore in it.

bright rock
#

That

cosmic oak
#

Who else threw 15 hard won and smelted iron on to the deck of their ship which was in deep water

uncut bough
#

not me, i crafted cart and it broke down too fast

bright rock
#

Bet those were quite heavy

pliant hatch
frozen void

boss trophies float, dont they?

bright rock
#

Realization

pliant hatch
frozen void
#

aaaah

uncut bough
#

easy fix, sail the water again and locate the tropie

#

they dont despawn, do they

frozen void
#

after 2 ingame days they do

uncut bough
#

aight

hot fern
#

look at the good side: at least you'll get more weapon skill points killing yag again

#

plus the battle music

pliant hatch
# uncut bough they dont despawn, do they

I dunno.
Had a portal nearby, so collected my set of arrows and battle food, took the portal and went straight to the altar, using the trophies I had put up at the main base as trophies.
Except this time my previous trick of using the platforms in the Fulling village didn't work and I nearly bought it.

uncut bough
#

i did not know that the 2nd boss is so far away, how am i ever reaching it

#

the elders, i think it is how it is called

pliant hatch
#

Eventually I was more grumpy about loosing the saccing trophies as to do that fight again.
Meant I had to search another island to get them back at my main base.

bright rock
#

“So far away” wait till you see the other bosses

#

It’s actually pretty rare to not have elder altar on your starting island tho

uncut bough
#

what is elder altar?

pliant hatch
#

The spot to kill the 2nd boss

#

If you have a large patch of Black Forest at your starting island, you can be quite certain The Elder will be there as well.

uncut bough
#

idk the black forest isn't where i was spawned, and i had to raid a lot of dungeons to find the loc for elder

cosmic oak
#

I'm surprised there's not more people taking Loxes with them to battle bosses

uncut bough
#

i had to find the something that marks the location of elder in the burial something

pliant hatch
#

Those dungeons are located in the Black Forest.
Where you spawn is the Meadows.

hot fern
#

loc for elder == elder altar, same thing

uncut bough
#

but the elder isn't in the forest, the marker showed it being somewhere super far away

bright rock
#

I actually forgot tamed pet attacks boss tbh lmao

hot fern
#

it's in a forest somewhere

uncut bough
#

like actually in a place in the map that isn't even discovered yet

hot fern
#

it's always in black forest, but there are many black forests in the world

#

you need to explore there to use that altar 🙂

#

the Haldor trader is also in the black forest, so you'll need to locate him eventually if you haven't by exploring more black forests

pliant hatch
bright rock
#

I’d rather not spoil myself knowing the world map first hand

uncut bough
#

damn so i will be going there fr, it is so far away though

#

i dont have teleportation device

hot fern
#

Do you have a boat yet?

uncut bough
#

i have a cart

hot fern
#

You're going into one of the first major hurdles i feel of valheim, going across water

bright rock
#

Ocean!

hot fern
#

there are boats and rafts that you can build to do this (i don't recommend raft)

#

Check your hammer's Misc category, there's a "Karve" in there that can be built

bright rock
#

He’d need to have crafted bronze nail first I think

uncut bough
#

how am i gonna craft bronze nail

#

i did say it once and i will say it again, why is the cart sooo flimsy, like at least it shouldn't literally turn into rags after bumping into a few tiny twigs

bright rock
#

You’re overestimating Stone Age technology lmao

#

I saw how carts performed 3 years ago and didn’t like it so I never made one ever

hot fern
#

they are extremely useful in some cases, though. in the swamp they are super underrated, one of the best transports out there

#

(you can swim carts across water)

bright rock
#

Ngl I’ve got more things tailing me in swamp I really don’t want more things to worry about

hot fern
#

🙂

bright rock
#

The only transport I use is big boat

hot fern
#

yeah, but to get from the crypts to the big boat?

bright rock
#

I make multiple trips

frozen void
#

you can usually run it pretty easy too

hot fern
#

i suppose just running it and portaling works, that's what i've done a lot

bright rock
#

It helps with running level

#

Which you will ultimately need in mistland so that’s not missed out investment

cosmic oak
#

Valheim is pretty much grinding your way to an easier way and then finding a new grind 😉

hot fern
#

true!

hot fern
cosmic oak
#

Tbh though leveling up my dead friends was the only one that really felt like a grind ( lvl 87 )

uncut bough
#

following some of the members' advice here, i started exploiting trolls to mine copper easier

#

not actually exploit, maybe just making the troll swing the log aggressively downward so the copper breaks

frozen void
#

died?

uncut bough
#

live, i got 110 health + leather lvl 3 suits

#

and also i dont get my way into harm's way, i dodge out of range when it does a slash, and move left or right when it does a downward swing

#

and also i wasn't that dumb, when i kite the troll i shot with it arrows so that if i am in a pinch, i can just shoot it one more time and it dies

late coral
#

Man, Hardcore mode enemy damage is no joke. No-star Skeletons still 1-shot you without upgraded Leather Armor.

bright rock
#

You’d be more worried about grey dwarves

plush umbra
#

Nah the skeletons do a lot more damage than greydwarves

uncut bough
#

fighting skelly in low-level gear is much much scarier than dwarves

plush umbra
#

In lvl 1 leather gear I think the greydwarves on very hard do like 18 damage but the skeletons do 50

uncut bough
#

the skelly is the bane of existence for new players, its attack hurts like hell, and it is tankier than just gray

plush umbra
#

It’s pretty much all of my gameplay the last few days running around in that armor fighting those

uncut bough
#

and also some skelly has shield, you aint fightin them

plush umbra
#

It’s only tankier if you don’t use club tbh

#

I don’t think the shields do anything so they

frozen void
#

nah they dont use their shield

plush umbra
#

The archers on very hard is what’s really terrifying. I haven’t been hit by a 2 star yet but I have a feeling it would probably one shot me if not leave me with 10hp

bright rock
#

I find wooden shield pretty useful before I have any troll armor pieces

pliant hatch
#

I've never seen the skellies using their shields. Doubt they even got the brains to use them.

frozen void
#

regular greydwarves and skellies have same hp, but skellies deal almost twice as much damage

plush umbra
#

I think it just feels tankier since I imagine most people are running slash weapons that early

bright rock
#

No one use the almighty club? ThinkingTroll

pliant hatch
#

I do.

#

First things I craft: hammer, club and flint axe.
After that it's gathering enough resources for a workbench, some walls, some roofs, crafting a bow and a stack of wooden arrows before terrorizing the Deer.
And their boss. 😄

bright rock
#

mmm, I feel like staying in meadow without killing deer boss early would be a great start in hardcore

#

Stock up all the food from constant raids

plush umbra
#

depends on what hardcore is to you

#

hard to stock up though since food goes by so fast

bright rock
#

That they do, but we can make them less of a problem while working towards a better and easier accessed source of food

flat hinge
#

I dont like draugr

#

Even with a shield and spear

plush umbra
#

honeslty the raids arent a problem till you kill elder anyway

#

the forest is moving is just free mats and skills

bright rock
#

Now I wonder how hard the mini bosses from Hildir quests will become in hardmode…

plush umbra
#

rough if on very hard

#

we're having more trouble with no map than veryhard with hardcore lol

#

trolls one shotting you is rough though

gritty socket
#

Will tames die due to starvation ❓

pliant hatch
#

nope

plush umbra
#

there isnt anything in the game that has real hunger

bright rock
#

Having to spend half a day to kite a troll is quite annoying indeed

plush umbra
#

you will heal them with food though

plush umbra
#

i was absolutely terrified of them but after the last few days of dealing with them theyre almost feeling easy

#

I still cry and pee myself a lil though

#

ive put about dozen hours just making paths through the blackforest the last two days and trolls are such pests

bright rock
#

Literally anyone when they first see troll in the older days ThinkingTroll

cosmic oak
plush umbra

ive had so much gear deleted by trolls now

green remnant
#

Anyone got an idea on when will be the new update dropping in valheim

cosmic oak
#

The result was Partially Successful. Managed two cliff jumps with the latest cape and cart attached. The cart survived two launches (suprisingly). If you load it up right on the edge and land somewhere you can launch again from, you're covering decent ground down a steep descent. Even when the cart breaks, you get cargo boxes that aren't hard to locate.

formal kraken
#

Get to paving some Roman roads and your carts do most of the work for you after. It'd be a lot easier if the cart could turn when tilted on one side so you could build better hot wheels sets, but whatever.

It's just that you really really need to clear as much terrain as you can

#

It might not look like it but sometimes the game still considers the node to be connected

#

Imo it works best with silver veins

fair cairn
#

it works like 90% of the time with copper nodes, though thats also probably becouse i look for well placed copper nodes that are already 40% exposed on a cliffside

latent wraith
#

90% might be a fair assessment since sometimes the copper nodes are too closed to the water level to properly dig underneath.

#

100% of the times you can actually get to dig under them properly it works.

also, most of the raids i get are at copper nodes
will probably also happen in the mountains with silver nodes

pliant hatch

If you're mining copper, start by mining around the node, place a campfire near the spot where you go down first; and two more at halfway points around it.
When that's done, start mining the node from bottom to top so you're quite safe.
Most of the times the Greydwarves miss you with their pebbles, but it gives you time to stop mining and regain stamina.

Also, place a workbench in that mined out area and a campfire near it, so you're able to get a rested bonus.

merry pebble
#

not sure if there are other structures that it spawns in

cosmic oak
pliant hatch

The spawn will always activate the moment you read the rune stone near it as well.
So just read all runestones near structures and sooner or later one will either tell you it's the spawnpoint of that particular boss or point you to it.

merry pebble
pliant hatch
#

Like I said: read rune stones NEAR STRUCTURES

merry pebble
#

yes?

pliant hatch

You know, things like stair cases, rocks sticking out of the ground, in tombs, castle ruins, things like that.

#

Not those just standing in a forest,

#

Or at a meadows

merry pebble
#

you mean Veigvisirs, those are not runestones

#

you mean the rocks with circular symbol on them, that is a veigvisir, rune stone is the rock with text on it

pliant hatch
#

OMG. We got a purist here.

They're encarved with runes, right?
Which makes them a rune stone.
Vesigvir is just an old (scandinavian?) word for a device to point into a direction.
Just like the Dutch word "weg wijzer".

merry pebble
#

they are two different thing in the game, thats why i make the distinction, they are two different things with different purposes

#

one is called veigvisir and the other rune stone

pliant hatch
#

And how would you call the stones near the altar or the entrance to the Queen's lair?
Because that's certianly not pointing you into any direction.

bright rock
#

The rune stones gives you lore information, the vesigirs gives boss location

frozen void
#

Im not entirely sure what you mean by altar being activated by vegvisirs though

merry pebble
languid root
#

All vegvisirs are rune stones
Not all rune stones are vegvisirs

#

In game at least

latent wraith
#

The main point, I think, is clearness. Vegvisirs are specific stones that have a specific game play effect, whereas "runestones" is a broad term encompassing many different runestones. Saying "runestones show where the boss is" is like saying "beams can hold up a hearth" which is true for iron wood beams but not for wood beams. It's not wrong as such, just quite potentially misleading.

pliant hatch
merry pebble
#

rune stones 🙂 since they give you lore info (kinda)

gray nexus

Well, technically interacting with the altar's stones also marks the boss marker on your map similar to a vegvisir iirc sooo 🤷‍♂️ they're pretty much same

crystal sigil
pliant hatch
# gray nexus what do you even mean by "spawn will activate" tho

The moment you read the stone at the spawnpoint of that particular boss, the altar will be listed as the boss altar if you haven't found it yet.

If you find a vesigvir and read that one before having found the boss spawn, the boss will spawn at the nearest altar.

So both types of rune stones will activate the boss spawn; which why it's so convenient to do the first thing at the Yagluth altar, as this vesigvirs are pretty hard to find.

wicked kestrel

distant citrus
#

Is the Belt something you wear instead of armor or is it an 'additional' slot like a trinket?

pliant hatch
#

you loose an inventory slot from wearing it.
But it also gives you an increased weight you can carry and given the amount, that makes it a very useful item to "transport" ore, stone and / or wood stacks.

distant citrus
#

Ah I see, so it's not something you could realistically wear at all times, but it's handy once you've cleared a place out and are hauling the loot back

#

Does the same go for the Dvergr Circlet?

pliant hatch
#

I think it's something most players wear at all times.

Dvergr Circlet is a tool that replaces your helmet, but in return gives you the option to ditch the torches.
In other words, a great tool for dungeon / crypt / cave exploration.

distant citrus
#

Ahh okay, so it is like an accessory rather than an armor piece that it would replace, whereas the circlet does replace your helmet but is fantastic in dark areas

#

Thank you very much for the insightful answers! That makes the Belt an easy first choice : )

Does anyone know how to deal with Abominations? They're like bosses in their own right, atm I've got Full Bronze lvl 2 Gear, lvl 1 Iron Buckler, Troll Cape lvl 3 and Bronze Mace/Sword/Axe lvl 2.

Should I just gear up a lot more before tackling them or is it more of a... deep breath skill issue?

you can parry aboms with a lvl 3 bronze shield or lvl 1 iron

yes silver is good for moder and youll use root harness for plains

I'm currently arrived in Swamp and I've gotten 2 stacks of Iron but I'm a bit confused as to what I should be doing in terms of progression. Does anyone happen to have like a bit of a general roadmap? I seem to be a little lost

Thanks all! I think what might also be holding me back a bit is that I haven't built a base yet at all, just a bunch of fortified outposts, so to speak.

Maybe I should look into that and start working on fermenting/mead/cooking as well

building is satisfying

brittle sedge

I’ve been doing that to gear up in silver today

make sure you build walls surrounding and resin torches work the same as bonfires to keep spawns away so you can expand your workbench range with torches

Torches expand your workbench range??

no the safety range

i mean yes

if you get raided and the whole red circle is spawn proofed with torches youll have a way easier time than if you didnt do anything

The swamp does seem really cool with the treehouses and almost village-like constructions you could make as you connect them, but I'd also imagine it to be a bit awkward.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you wouldn't really be able to smelt on platforms, nor farm, right?
