I think (generally, also just my experience) the animosity stems from comparison. It seems that comments like “mods did what developer couldn’t do!” Or “mods develop way faster than these developers!” Start to implant this idea like there are sides. Vanilla vs modded.

This always spirals out of control, then you have passionate people on both sides that will adamantly defend their position. Which, honestly, doesn’t actually have a resolution because it’s all just personal preference at the end of the day

I typically don’t play with mods, it’s just not my thing. (One exception, but that’s irrelevant). And that goes for any game; terraria, Valheim, whatever.

But with that being said, I don’t put a label on myself as a purist or anything. If players enjoy adding some or a lot of mods- I don’t mind! And I’m sure there are many who enjoy mods who respect my decision to stay vanilla. And at the end of the day, I think that’s what it’s really about- respecting other’s opinions and perspectives. 🤔
