From my personal limited knowledge and merit, since bytes consist of 8 bits, I believe they made a compromise between a reasonable multiple of 8 and a reasonable password length.
Something I have learned over the years, the best way to store a password is just writing it down on paper. Paper cannot be hacked. It is not likely people will find your notes either.

There a 2 ways of representating numbers for a computer : binary (0 to 1) and hexadecimal (0 to 15). It is because an byte is 8 bits and each bit is one more puissance of 2. So, 8 and 16 are common numbers in computer sciences, the point might be about memory storage and optimization

Another trick is to use a long standard format, remember your format and your rules for modifying it and you will not have to remember much of anything.
Long passwords are apparently a nightmare for brute forcing methods to figure out from what I’ve heard due to the encryption stuff

If you can use any common keyboard key then you multiply possibilities number by something like 70 for each letter added
(I counted quickly and roughly on my phone keyboard, might be even more on a computer). So yeah, imagine 70^16 possibilities (considering your password makes no sense and is totally random == doesn’t follow a specific pattern understandable by humans)
Brute force become quickly a nightmare the longer your password is. But be aware that most “common” patterns (like p4$$w0rd or similar, common numbers lists like 007, 12345 etc) are all registered and can be tested very quickly with a computer. Keep your passwords illogical as possible.

It's at least one byte per character, could be up to 4 (depends on encoding). But that does not matter because no software even remotely secure will store a password. What is stored is a hash of the password and a salt (random bytes), both (hopefully) at least 16 bytes. Password length has no impact on number of stored bytes, it really is just about brute forcing.
So yeah, I also don't get max pw length limits and get frustrated by them

Okay, so imagine this, you join a dedicated server, only to find that someone has placed about 30 ballista around spawn pointed in, and you die immediately....fun right ;D
Or maybe placing ballista and traps by people beds, maybe just remove the foundation of their builds destroying everything, and letting it despawn so you can even steal it back
Valheim is probably best enjoyed with friends, there is far too much opportunity for griefing. It doesn't really have system in place for PVP progression, without gentlemen's rules, which you will not get on a public server.
And with 10 people max per server...the odds of you being able to even join a world you're trying to progress in is slim.

Yeah, as you defeat bosses harder enemies spawn at night, as well as enabling/disabling certain raids.
But if your advanced friend joined a new world, there would be no seekers at night (it's tied to boss kills, not player gear)
So if you lr new, I recommend a new world, and have your friends start new characters (or at least drop off end game gear)

Ah, so that's actually still the world, raids can happen anytime a player is near a "base"
Which is any area with 3 "base" items nearby (fires, crafting stations portals etc )
So when you first spawn and wander, nothing will happen, but if you have built a base you can have a raid.
The difference is, in a world without any bosses killed, the only raid you can get (minor spoiler)
Is "eikthyr rallies the creatures of the forest". You will be attacked by boars and necks, this can actually be helpful for early game leather scraps and meat, so don't rush, once you beat eikthyr, this raid is disabled

I think both approaches work but players shouldn't be sad if 1.0 is where the devs move on.
We've gotten extremely spoiled the past decade with live service and expecting a game to live on forever.
People get angry and upset these days if the devs want 1.0 to be where it ends.
So many games got review bombed on Steam because 1.0 was the final content.
