I know it can be really frustrating to lose your progress; but that's part of what makes everything feel weighty/have gravitas in Valheim.

I recommend building more defenses, because there may or may not be more difficult raids to come!

it doesnt punish you though, it gives you free resources and if you dont spend hours in you base, you wont get as many raids

it's only free resources if you don't get absolutely demolished by the event. this might be why it feels like a punishment, i've definitely had this feeling and it's why i've temporarily skipped bonemass in my current run.

getting raided while you're solo in civvie gear doing farming and proceeding to get unlucky once and then deleted 14 times in a row as 30 mobs slowly chew apart your base and kill all your animals is definitely discouraging. for me, i'd run the settings custom where the combat is the same but so long as I'm not bothering the enemies they won't ambush me while i'm feeding Boaris Johnson and the rest of the Boar-y Party

Swamp is notorious for beating new players down and making them rethink their approach to new biomes and combat in general

And for a lot of players it's simply just not a fun experience which is fair

I have 1 base that I do everything at. if I leave while they raid they'll just destroy everything I have. not to mention by portalling out I'll be leaving all my gear there. I'd build giant wall defenses and stuff but like, I don't have the time any more. guess it depends on your playstyle, and first run through I thought they were great, just not worth dealing with for me this time round

Building on an island is nice. Raids spawn on the coastal shore and you generally have time to cross a bridge and deal with it there.

Everytime I play the game I always feel the swamp is just visually really boring compared to everywhere else which makes me want to grind through at breakneck speeds. Mining in general is just unnecessarily grindy IMO. Swinging a pick 4 times at a rock for nothing isn't very great feeling

i did not know this. i've seen stuff i built be destroyed when I came back to it because enemies had destroyed it while I was away, so I took this to assume the game simulates it in the background or something

multiple bases takes longer for me. performance isn't much of an issue because my buildings don't tend to be too large, the only satellite bases I'm going to have will be a farm for plains (and I guess mistlands, i've heard) because portal travel takes longer than running 4 metres to the next building

portal travel does take some time, though if your like me, i left my starter base, turned that into a ranch and farm
and build a main base in the black forest on the other side of the island where i found a nice piece of land to cut off and thats how i have my bases split into seperate and may even build another ranch for 2 star boars if i find some too far from my current ranch

yeah it's pure dogwater. all muddy brown, rain and dark means you can't see worth a damn, only two interesting enemies IMO, wraiths and abominations the swamp's only redeeming factor, because having a hulking mass of trees tear itself from the ground 2 metres away from you with zero warning it was there is definitely not boring lol
you have to spend far too much time in the swamps compared to how much the swamps makes you want to be there

i don't pull up to swamp coast ever in first foray there. land on adjacent meadows/black forest, portal down, go in slow and steady.
there always seems to be a small legion of draugr and oozes ready to restructure my bones if i go in at the coast

how would you argue this? they felt well-balanced for the swamp for me. after the first one or two going down to arrows, I figured out I could parry them and chop them like they're just greydwarfs the size of trolls, so long as you get that buckler and timing down they're fairly easy even with bronze

I was never really able to parry them and they seem to have no weakness. I don't consider sitting on a tree and arrow spamming such a tanky enemy as something that feels like it belongs

Nothing else in the game works like that, the closest thing would be the rock golem but you can smack that bad boy with a pick axe for great results

pretty sure i'm playing on standard difficulty, are you playing on harder or something? fire arrows work well... kinda? because wet in swamp. but I've done it both ways, and the melee is definitely quicker if you get it down. hell, just dodging around the thing works if you can't hack the parry timing

DLC isn't really a good term to use though, as that generally denotes additional content for finished games.

To me, Enshrouded is a party with all the right elements but none of them fit together well enough to make it cohesive. In theory the shroud should function kinda like oxygen in Subnautica but it just ends up being this side annoyance that doesn't have any real meaning later in the game?

Don't get me wrong, it's really pretty and they nailed a lot of the elements, it just doesn't feel cohesive or coherent.

The combat is decent -better than The Witcher, I think, by a long shot.

I'm very critical of it but I mostly enjoyed the playthrough and I think they have a lot of great elements that need some refinement. There needs to be more reason for the player to explore. They do a decent job using the equipment upgrades to force that but it kinda felt like I was checking items off a list in a medieval fantasy environment instead of going on an adventure.

I say the same of Valheim though - like I love the Hildir's Request concept but I think it fails in execution because the reward isn't really worth it. There really needs to be something more motivating the player to explore the world.

Something I would love to have measured in Valheim - the average exploration of players. I bet you its something like "90% of players only explore 20% of the map".

The first time a rock or anything that is supposed to be mined by a pick axe takes damage, it will swap its model for a fragmented version of it. That’s why the game stutters or the model warps slightly on first hit of ores and rocks.

Each fragment checks for support every few seconds in a small but surprisingly large radius.

Fragments are technically supported if it can find a fragment that has support or it finds a fragment that knows of an another fragment that has support. Or it itself is supported.

To convince a rock or ore that it has no support, you need to clear a solid amount of space at the bottom.

In general for any game, once you have played it through a couple times, there is no reason to do it again.
Mods add new and different things to the game, to make you want to play it again; in either a different way like with Valheim Legends Character Class System, or with new magic items or weapons like Skyheim.

I got over 500 hours. I only ever use QoL mods. I have never liked content or overhaul mods for any game with the exception of factorio or minecraft

I will always binge play Valheim for 50+ hours twice a year. One of the few games that feels good to replay because of the randomness and progression style

It really didn't take anything to run them all, a decent gaming computer will have 16GBs of ram, that is sufficient.
There is a lot of time we have to put in redoing code in the mod as well as our config files that no longer are compatible to different degrees.
It's the bane of all games with mods.
Baldur's Gate 3 Larian Studios is claming to be making a mod scaffolding, so that when they update their game, all mods created using the scaffold will work. I don't have details, but it sounds great!

Oh.
Some of it is Quality of Life stuff you may know, crafting from containers, a good portion of the mods just add content, like Fantasy Armour and Weapons, new crafting stations, new foods, potions, creatures, NPCs. I think the Legends of Valheim Character Class system is the best. You get Priests, Mages, Druids, etc. All with different abilities.

There’s probably ways to manage the impact of the game updating. But you just have a lot of mods so it is what it is. You signed up for it and it’s clearly worth your time if you keep fixing it all every time.

Valheim works fantastically on it as well, but the internal storage is only 512GB and 12GB or 20GB is taken by the Windows OS and its drives

May take the RAM sticks though since it's 16GB each, gotta figure out how to safely store it for transport

I would suspect that the patch is out by the end of May IF they are on track. I am not sure if they specified that the release date was for the PTB only or for the full proper release. If it was for the full release, it would for sure come sooner than end of June (again if they are on track). In situations where vague release dates are given, studios don't want to be on the wire and release at the last possible date unless it was necessary.

Another reason I think May is that Midsommar/Juhannus are at the end of June and game studios usually do a 2week summer vacation around that time. I don't think they want to release too close to that time as they will probably need to be doing hotfixes.

Each chop adds some exp, so the more chops you do the higher lvl you will get.
Using the worst axe so it takes longer to fell a tree but you have to travel less will make lvling wood cutting a tad faster.
It isn't worth it in my opinion though.

For cheese you could get the dear raiser, summon a skellie next to a tree, enable friendly fire, hit tree and skellie and raise your axe and wood cutting skill by 1.5 points each swing.

So - I was a bad boy and about a year ago when ToTK uhh... pre-released... I found myself with a copy of it and was playing it for about 2 weeks before the official release and it was sooooo much fun playing a game that I couldn't Google. It was like playing the first game as a kid and comparing notes with my schoolmates.

I say this bc I frequently see players asking here for optimal strats for fighting bosses/etc and I think "The optimal strat didn't exist the first time someone beat the boss and they still won."
