They already did. Initially fires took no damage, now fires take damage when they do damage, so it's a self-limiting thing. You need to be quick with a hammer to use campfires effectively. I've had a bat raid destroy a bonfire by enough bats immolating themselves on it 😛

I forget what all food you have access to at the moment you enter the swamp, but you can find turnips in the swamp which can make turnip soup, the best stamina food available to you until mountains.

Before that, carrot soup is pretty good for stam. Deer stew is pretty nice starting out for health.

There are some structures that need iron ingots. Stonecutters (that allow you to build stone structures in an AoE), iron gates, iron wood beams (that reinforce tall structures), torches etc

But yeah most iron is used for tools and armor

The easiest way to find out is just place a campfire on a shoreline get on a raft and start sailing away until the campfire derenders and then start sailing back towards it as soon as it renders and you can actually see the fire that's about the same distance while someone could just tell you the actual measurement the campfire on the shore method is in my opinion better because it gives you a visual representation

I personally like valheim for what it is and what you can do, so difficult yet so simple, and beautiful scenery and with the gameplay it has it’s great. I like the norse mythology, viking era and fantasy in it. Those are my favorite topics

From what I recall, the landmasses themselves are not truly random generated - they're sections of a larger map that every seed pulls from. Biomes are assigned mostly at random, following certain rules, and depending on those biomes you might see elevation changes, like the swamps forcing everything down to near sea level.

Rivers are random gen as well iirc

You can’t compare valheim and enshrouded, same genre but very different games in many aspects, but in general, its way more logical to ask about how good or enjoyable it is than to directly ask people on their discord, because you might get “yes” on everything regarding any of the game’s aspect. Here is my huble opinion about enshrouded: if you love building, please buy it, you gonna love it

Lore wise, not good not terrible. still in very early stages and combat and some mechanics feels “basic”, you can’t judge really since its been several month since it came out.

So, are you talking about like, the actual mathematical transforms behind the landmass generation and such, or just general concept of the rules they've programmed in?

I can tell you a bit about the general rules if you're interested, but as for the actual heightmap generation they've likely just used a riff of some standard procedural generation techniques. Lots of scholarly resources on that out in the world.

Gotcha. So the basic idea is that they've got a pregenerated heightmap "master" world that all other maps derive from, with the master map being about 4 times the size of any given world. The seed picks the center and informs some of the modifications of that section further, with rules such as "center needs to be meadows" so the heightmap is set that way, "Black Forest can only start X meters from the center", etc., and all of the RNG for those rules is started by the world seed so it can be repeatable for the same seed but very different between each seed.

But that video looks like a super solid start, it's going to be very similar to what Valheim uses under the hood. They just made a good master map that they ensures that you can't generate supercontinents or anything too far outside the realm of what they intend for the gameplay.

I believe that it's just a set seed for the basic generation that the devs liked as a basis for everything else, to ensure islands instead of continents, etc. I think it was arrived at manually, but I'm not sure about the details behind that. It was not sculpted by hand, I am sure of that.

I mean... a texture map is just a projection onto a surface. I don't believe there are any kind of texture applied rules, but I also haven't dug into the decompiled code, either. The color textures in the video are just assigned from the Y values I believe (haven't watched it all), and Valheim does similar things with assigning Mountain biome to areas above I think 200m or whatnot, etc.

Honestly, I think watching these videos and getting into some of the mathematical stuff would help you more than just trying to emulate Valheim. Get the basics solid before worrying about the fancy cool stuff. Valheim's engine is many years in the making 😉

Yeah, the Howling Cavern is a miniboss, so be careful in there 😉 Frost Caves will look similar without braziers outside, it's often easies to find them by walking around a little lower on the mountain and looking up the hill. Most large mountain ranges will have one or two caves at least. They're super easy to miss though.
