Relea...
because when im playing guitar I have good pitch perception
3:35 is my feature on this song
I sing my highest note here
I also produced this song
I wanna sing like that
I wanna have sick high vocals, while also doing sick high fry screams and low gutterals
based
ive always been a guitarist tho
because i dont know what im doing right without a coach
I mean I can show u how I did my fry screams
they're easier
im still not great at them tho
i hate times omg
my mum is asleep so I cant do anything
I cant do quiet screams
LOL
So have i
peak
you can never cut too much
We're in the same timezone lol (i can see in your bio) haha
Oh damn where are you?
You absolutely can cut top much haha
Yeah you definitely can lol, unless your going for slam
Sounds like something is clipping but the tone itself sounds pretty good
Mid tones are just cooler imo
At risk of doxing to people I dont know super well id like not to answer specifics ha, but same time zone
more note definition
agreed ngl
hmm, i have a clip on but idk
lol fair enough it was a weird question
khs clipper just taking off a liitle peaks
As long as respect is given when not wanting to answer, im okay with weird questions haha
It's audible
You don't want audible clipping
If it's clipping, turn down the track til no longer clipping
no one wants clipping
how to tell if its clipping? im not getting any orange or red on gain meter
It's your clipper then
Just take off the clipper
finally having an android phone means custom noti and call noises
ah okay
NAH THATS SICK
Genuine question, what is the point of a clipper?
because this is ringing both you and me
Shaves off peaks
point is to distort or "clip" a signal
i need to use one ngl
you don't want audible clipping on stuff like guitar, etc, but it can be useful for drums, limiting, or electronic music
Shaves peaks and helps with loudness sometimes
I think
what daws do u guys use
Correct me if I’m wrong
Isnt that the point of a limiter
reaper
Cakewalk, slowly moving to reaper
limiter "pushes" down the sound while preserving data. Clipper LITERALLY shaves it off resulting in a click sound
Reaper on pro tools mode and ableton
i use pro tools
Ew
got one of the versions free with focusrite lmao
reaper
switch to reaper instantly lol
pro tools is bad
I always have to google how to split a track because its a pain in the ass
Same, hated them
Found cakewalk
I like it
😭
It’s not bad, it’s a good daw, it’s just very corpo
That’s the only problem
I have reaper
reaper tips theme ❤️
bad aka the free version is so limited you can't use it
I really liked the ui of pro tools
Use reatools then
I say just use what you like lol
That is also the correct answer
but some things will be more limited or less flexible than others
Unless it’s above 1 grand
Then ur just stupid
I used Protools in High school, it was fine st that time (15 years ago)
Ableton I couldn't figure out
Cubase I couldn't figure out
Reaper is alright so far, I just need to play with it more
Cakewalk is dummy simple lol
i need to figure out how to use reaper
Reaper Mania on youtube
It’s great, I love reaper
he's an employee
My issue is im just too used to Cakewalk and too stubbon
bet ty
And not big in change once I'm used to something ha
needs more brickwall
bro im watching a video about getting good guitar mixes and this guy is on about using specific amps and cabs and shit when the plugin I have forces u to use a single cab with each of their amps 💔
i cant afford all this archetype shit
and ive used the free trials for all of them 💔
Ignore them
not like I have a choice lmao
Xenon just got me onto a really good one that mimics So man amps
Legion or nam, it’s simple
Or make ur own
heres a recent mix i did ENTIRELY with free plugins
yeah fair
Guitar, drums, mastering, EVERYTHING is all free plugs
And have like 100 amps samples or something
Lolll
NAM Universal is much better
You shared this in the other chat right?
Not a great ui as well
Nah im with Xenon Nam Universal is chefs kiss
Im now getting the tones I wanted
bro goddamn 😭
My IRL Amp is an Orange Micro Dark
Mhm yummy
i have a boss katana 50 mkII
I would love to start micing real cabs but i'm broke
lol
(BUY MY PRODUCTS RAGH)
:)
I have a really rare evh focusrite scarlett
LOL
I have a scarlet solo
The what?
I have Scarlet solo gen 3
i cant remember what gen mine is
I think thats why we're all here tbh haha
🥲
yeah mine is also third gen
I think most people have 3rd gen of 4th gen
someone send me thick tones for NAM universal
i have a komplete audio 1
I like the inerface, some of the software it comes with is meh, but I like addictive drums and Addictive piano
cheap
the default Tim ii 5150 is gas
wait let me drop a bomb for u guys
bet
ill send the one ive been using for like all my tones lately
lol
I’ve been loving fort nameless (not free but it’s really cool)
peak
oh shit fair
I dont know what IR is
cabinet simulator
simulates a real life amp cabinet
I see it, I use it, no idea what it means haha
It stands for Impulse Response
Ah okay, got ya
yeeee
But yes, NAM Universal is the play
Fact
I never install the standalone apps
I love Valhalla super massive for the delay
LOL
I was using Windows audio and i didnt realise it 💀
LOLL
same
I bought serum 1 for $130 like 10 years ago and i got the upgrade for free
It's worth the money imo
but none of the presets worked because they required a newer version so I gave up on it
It has inSANE capabilities
I have vital rn, doesnt fuckin work with pro tools
serum 2 adds more oscillators and is like the first virtual synth to use SPECTRAL oscillators and morphing
it's crazy
oh and on top of that you can even load soundfonts and sound banks 😭
Insanity
insane
sound design is so cool
I have 2 career paths I love but need to choose one option 💔
fair
Enjoy doing what you like
both is software tbf
bro why is Marigold by Periphery so goddamn awkward
cant play ts clean for the life of me
I changed the ir now i cant find ir 1
ffs
i genuinely dont know where it is
Lolllll
lol I did a mix of prayer position a bit ago
Periphery is so cool
.
i posted a cover of the breakdown for marigold on tiktok
damn thats sick
kiddo is not feeling vibing with dad tonight so this is as far as im getting tonight with tone, excuse my playing, just trying to dial in guitar tone lol
love it
a bit too bassy
peak
yeah but nothing that cant be fixed. that tone is sick
hahahah
sounds pretty good ngl
thats nice actually
yes finally lol
idk what i used or how to get it back...
LOL
Should I bump the high end a tad now? . Mids are pretty up on amp so idk why it’s still scooped. Maybe an ea issue in my end
literally just crank up the mids knob on the amp
Like how do your amp knobs look
This is generally how mine are lookin
with adjustments depending on the mix
Looks pretty good to me
So call it a decent tone? Or try to boost a little more mids?
You could boost more if you wanted, it's up to how you think it sounds
Maybe use a reference track
Slammy modern ish deathcore. I think it’s close to how I want it
sick!
Thanks for your help!!
anytime man
Now if someone can teach me to Pig squeal I'll be golden
same
I just recorded a riff idea on my phone omg it sounds so shit with the phone audio
and also cuz its coming from my pc and my guitar
and im using a pitch shifter 💔
Guitar tone sounds much better
I think once levelled and mix this will sounds sick as fuck
Dope! I gotta start writing some stuff for the band but in between Imma actually turn this into something
Nice that I have a six string tone I’m happy with now lol
What’s everyone’s guitars looking like? I wanna see pics
This is just a stock image but this is what i use
I'd like to have a 7 string but eh, maybe one day
Here’s mine. I love schecters. I want to change the pickups in the reaper one day . Something hotter
Its on the cheaper side but I've been looking at the Jackson JS22 DKA 6 string the JS 22-7 7 string
I like Jackson . They feel good
I've mostly only ever playe dfender or gibson/Epiphone
Which I like, I like the LP Body type
Would you consider any of these good band names?
Yes I know some are songs, I think they're neat
First Sight
Ashes of All
Savior of None
Shaped by Fire
Her Voice Resides
The Fallen Ones
Fall Harbour
I like first sight and fall harbor!
First sight
Her voice resides kinda unique
Funnily enough, First Sight is a TDWP song, and Fall Harbour is a play on Fallarbor Town from Pokemon haha
and her Voice Resides is a Bullet for My Valentine song
and I love BFMV
I thought this list at that 2003-2010 metalcore sound for names
Alright, Got my name sorted. Now to finish my shit and make a logo, thank you for the help gang
im learning reaper 🔥
im back
peak
yk what woukld be a sick band name
the new Crown Magnetar song
"Impaled Genesis"
Same
peak
Crunch setting, gain at 45, booster at 100 with Tube Screamer 👌
In the boss katana software it dials 1-100
But in general it would be 4.5
thats stupid ;p
I think it's because the dials don't lock into 1-10 positions, meaning (in a situation where the amp is 1-10) if you dialed the amp with a setting between the software would just default to something that sounds different.
just dial it until it sounds gool lol
Yeah basically
i dont think it really matters that much
Lot going on here, vocals are kinda "buzzy" sounding and have too much treble. Guitar sounds like it's kinda overshadowed by everything else. Just a bit too much processing overall
The bass frequencies are also super muddy and overlapping
Thanks!!!
I'm self taught in this production thing so I appreciate the feedback
Hey me too
Vocals had some distortion, could be the culprit
Guitars going through altar amp, it's extremely icey but has a great stringey sound you can get out of it, probably need more time with it
Bass i most likely forgot to side chain, I think, I'll have to open it up later and do an update
I think some better EQ moves could be made overall, kinda keeping everything to its own frequency range
Yeahhh for sure
I think I'm watching too many production videos and need to use my ears more, so much conflicting info about eq out there
Ahh yeah i get that
Honestly EQ is just sound shaping. I try not to boost more than i need to, i try not to make moves over like 5 db
If you're having to EQ something a TON just to get it to sound alright, change your source sound
If I remember correctly this one was very surgical so that could be the problem
Yeah what u said
By source sound, do you mean the amp or the DI?
Might have to use a different amp since it's naturally so icy
Or maybe an EQ before the amp
this also is a secret weapon
it affects how the amp distorts the guitar, and changes harmonics in really interesting ways
Loads of 4K to 10K
oh dang lol
If you have really old strings, you can put a high shelf before the amp and it almost fixes it 😂
Yeah it's almost required to cut with that amp
dang i'd just use a different amp
For sure trying this one
oh i know otto audio ii ii ii ii
used it for some time
but pod farm is >>>>>
especially if you're trying to make 2010s style sturgis metalcore
pod farm is just good in general
They are pretty new still
here's a track i mixed in style of sturgis but the stems are poorly done
vocals are very tricky here
oh yeah those vocal stems kinda sucked
Id agree with the highs where its kind of not closing the nouth and everything starts with a Y
He sounds like palmeri in places where he talks before doing harsh vocals
0:20
true
palmeri has cool gargling sound on his highs
listening to speaker of the dead rn
i think it's ssd snare 11a
@vale vapor makeshift vocal booth since my shit doesnt reach the nearest wardrobe
Ignore my abismal cable management
lol that is sick
Unironically what I typically do
also holy queenslander flooring lol
you record vocals?
now i gotta hear them
i usually ask my clients to do it that way
I have one that's processed but I was in an untreated closet
Weighted blanket behibd Mic
Foldable camper mattress behind me and then a doona on top for overhead reflections ha
This may have doxed my state haha
With a phone mic 😂
every time i ask them to do it in a closet, they record it in an empty closet
LOL mb
Oh nah i meant because you were asking me yesterday haha
oh haha
I may add another blanket on the floor to help with under foot reflections but i may he overkill
oh my
sounds like your just making a cubby house
bro just killed the convo
Dogshit recording quality killed chat
eh its fine everyone starts somwhere
I know how to do this stuff I just couldn't when I did this
your still starting out, its fine to not know
id say your are just above soundwave when it somes to mixing, you will get better though
Ssshhhh
And Ive only been mixing for a month lol
yeah your like extremly good for that amout of time man
With the way Soundwave is sounding rn I'm taking that as a compliment ngl
lol ok
Is that a compliment to me or an insult to me haha
compliment absolutely, for a month's experience you are elite
Nah thanks dude
Im recording vocals today finally and going to try mixing so I guess I'll be posting a bit here later
hell yeah, send me the stems if you can
Ill do that song from yesterday too haha
Vocals need a bit more compression, also theres a weird hiss in a few of the vocal parts
sounds good otherwise tho
lol im running gr, 1176 and a 2a
how much do you need
the cleans just sound a bit inconsistent in areas
make sure the gain reduction (not the plugin) is actually happening
what song is this holy
cutthoat
i love them
i love hollow bodies lol
Got the full version of deviant drums. Dialed in the tone better. I’m really likening the sound. Short ass snippet but what o could get out before getting the hay
use a different snare and boost that room
But I want that snare sound lol
its like a marching snare tho
It’s the deathcore ping bruh lmao
Bro I’m not even mixing lol, this is just out the box
just because its called that doesnt mean its good
But if I think it’s good then??
ah pl
its great if you think its good but in this occasion its a bit too snare bottom
im a bit busy rn
I mean yeah but it’s probably gonna change some when I actually start mixing it. It’s just a preset on the drums. Im not going for a modern metalcore or deathcore snare.
@timber forum @balmy forum @vale vapor
Alright its done
I need to obviously mix the vocals and fix my levels but some generic eq and generic reverb and this is the result
much betterrrrr
Ive never recorded for this song haha so im impressed with how it sounds so far
This is nice I like it
im exited to mix it, ill give you a rundown when im done too
I think that was a different song, but can do this one if you prefer lol
lol whatever you want man
Im easy, free mix is a free mix haha
what is your fav
My fav what?
out of the 2 songs that you posted
Probably this one because its actually a complete song haha
The ithers i have are full instrumentals but i havent finished lyrics
sick, i can do this one if youd like
@karmic plinth what do you think of the tone?
Dude thats a significantly better tone than yesterday I think
Idk what im talking about but i dig it anyway
Vocals are a bit loud overall, this is cool though
Balance of everything could be a lot better, but that's something that you'll get better at with experience
This is my 7 string but yeah I like it
Oh yeah i know
I havent played with levels yet
ah gotcha
Its also only got like some preset reverb and preset eq on it
Dude your voice is amazing
Preset EQ? Never heard of that
its what you use
Never used a preset for any EQ curve
So I'm going to assume you mean the very basic way most things are EQ'd
i thought you diddnt know what it was
Well I know what presets are but I've never heard of people using presets on their EQ
No, I don't normally, it was just so it didn't like something Gordon Ramsay would yell at me for gha
lol
just finished this, now im onto @karmic plinth song
Alright, I've just spent the last nearly two hours attempting to mix, including Gain staging, EQ and what not,
How are we sounding?
Also i missed this before, thank you!
Do you mind sending these stems? I wanna try my hand at mixing it
wel looks like usa just woke up holy
Brooo this sounds super good!!
ggs!
Imo theres a tad too much reverb on the vocals
Vocals could also use a lot more compression
don't be afraid of overcompressing vocals
In metal, vocals need to be super compressed in order to cut through
Clean vocal sections need some more clear EQing and less verb for sure
@vale vapor @runic adder for whatever reason the bass is pretty much inaudible. Any idea why?
have you considered turning up the fader?
jokes aside, how do you process the bass? can I hear it solo? I think i hear it here
to me bass is just a thing to fill up empty harmonics in the mix
erm actually bass is an instrument used to add depth to and ground a mix that prominently features midrange instruments that take up the sides of a mix
i do hear the bass here, i think it lacks some sub which is probably what you mean by inaudible?
Huh
I literally couldn't hear it
But there is a high pass
I mean it is a little quiet
Homie
Hwat
A high pass at about 50-60hz?
turn it up
and dont highpass it
I’m out of the house for the next 20 minutes but please answer my questions and I can get back to ya when I get home
i highpass my bass a like below 20 just so the kick comes through under it
but NEVER highpass bass above that
I believe I have it literally peaking higher than the guitar before master
i place pro-mb on my bass
then everything needs to be turned down and you need to re evaluate your whole mix
The rest sounds fine, I don't think I have to go that far
I mean maybe it's the fact I'm processing the 0-200 hz range differently than the rest of the bass
But that's standard practice iirc
how so
Roast me
Guitar needs a bit more treble and is a bit honky in the midrange
Drums need more processing alltogether, more compression and EQ
Bass sounds raw
Lows - tdr kotelnikov
Highs - tube screamer -> BOD amp
And then all of that is being EQd and compressed
can you send your bass soloed
I will do that tomorrow when I can
This would answer @runic adder 's question
I have no idea what "honky" means ngl
i was referring to vile ant's mix
Any redeeming qualities? Or nah
If you like thall yeah
everything seems leveled properly
I dont like thall at all so i can't say personally
what does kotelnikov do?
very standard compressor
do you remember what settings you're using?
4:1 ratio, should be getting about 5 or so DB of GR
hm, i lowk slam my bass lol
how do you EQ the low end? it might be that it's just too much around 100-200 so that anything below it just doesnt come through as much
Boost around there that's 2db
lmfao called it
try taking out that boost and raising the level of the sub channel entirely
when I process my bass I like to have the low end a little flat just so when I raise the level there isn't anything that pokes out too much
uhh example
between about 60-150 it's relatively flat, so when I boost it all the bass comes through clearly
ik relying on visuals isn't the best way to go about it but this is what's been working so far
I'mnot sure what "level of the channel" means
Turn up the fader on the sub track
OK I thought you meant to raise the EQ boost to where the channel is peaking 💀
Why would I ever suggest that 😭
I have no idea
bass needs a ton of compression
ur doing it right
hey at least im doing the bass right lol
hearing back my most recent vocal takes and all the reverb from the room because I thought I'd be safe from it 😔
also vocal alignment sucks
Gain Reduction? I'm mega confused lol
yep
if you look at the meter on the plugin it shows a humble almost 20db of gain reduction
Wow you DO slam your bass
ig since I use midi bass I can test some new processing chains rn
something i threw together over the last couple of hours. highkey ripped off old suicide season era BMTH. what do y’all think?
Thats pretty much how it should be done😭
i think the guitars are a bit too high in the mix
esp for constantly panning back and forth like that
this is only on the sub track, mind
I don't compress the top end nearly as much
Yeah ik
god damn
my only thing here is that the cymbals seem to be distorting a bit? idk if its just me
or like overly compressed
Damn people love 578 cliches if you, @balmy forum and @wraith hare wanna try it haha, i wont be on my pc for a bit but can send later
578 is life brother
Thanks man! I was pretty proud of how its sounding and thought the same with the reverb, but reverb is not something im super versed in yet as ive never really recorded vocals
Reverb is pretty easy in my experience
Load up a send, open your reverb plugin, find a good sound, adjust volume
honestly they probably are lmao, same thing with the compression. my mix chain would probably give an actual audio engineer an aneurysm. i kinda just throw shit at the wall and see what sticks.
I have a few (for reference the songs im doing are in Cakewalk Sonar while I learn Reaper) but ive got the Cakeqalk default plug in on this one, but I also have the LX800 one that comes with the Scarlet Solo gen 3, then I have some other ones that are like the stupid simple ones that kind of dont do what you want them to do where its just a dial and like, nothing else
I would recommend the plugin magic7, mainly because of the fact that it has a lot of different sounds. You can also see what tonalities/type of reverb/ length of tail immediately, which makes it easier to categorize based off what kind of sound you want
Shoutout XENON for putting me onto this plugin
Welp his recs havent steered me wrong yet so I'll check it out!
At one point I used to get criticism for doing all the same things he does 😅
A rec is a rec and if you follow the rec theres nothing wrong with that imo
But also, thats like saying "i followed thus guide" but like you're just following what someone else recommends haha screw it, do what works, originality is dead, bring back crabcore
i thought they were just out of tune lol
do you find that at all though
You mind sending what this sounds like?
I'm redoing my bass right now so I can fix it tomorrow
No but like soloed
ok im closing the project now
Did it take literally 5 seconds to open it, solo it, and render it
nice mix
thank you
it seems the snare bomb chain is not well received 😔
its still cool, its just too loud
maybe look into using a different mic or placement, it sounds very cab like
?
also this is done now
i dont know the word lol
word for what
through a bad IR?
its a decent ir
is it the hiss?
im not sure lol
if it's the hiss/ring that's because i'm too close to my PC while recording
lol
this is so sickkkkkkk
holy shit lol
@runic adder just re-did my bass sound, somewhat taken from yours ngl
Will be doing that tomorrow morning
Not sure what to do after this? Something still kinda fast and slammy?
Did you casually create a Whitechapel x Deicide song?
No idea lmao. Just whatever comes to my head haha
soulvomit
learn alternate picking!
I think the fastest song I've made was 226 or something, I realised it was "too" fast and lowered it to 196 and it sounds MUCH better ha
imo, there's no need for crazy high bpms cause once you get past 200 you can just cycle back to 100bpm and put the metronome at 2x basis
and no need for tempos below 100, you can just cycle back up to 190 or 180 and put the metronome at half speed
Yeah, I realised the riff just didn't work that sped, its the song I just did vocals for
144 and 160 are usually my go to
ive been writing a lot of 150 and 185 lately
but i almost never pick even numbers
i pick tempo based on feel
So whatever my brain is feeling, i tap tempo it
sometimes that ends up being 153 or 179
I actually alternate pick a lot, I feel really good about tremolos too. It’s the fast string jump down picking riffs I want to do but can’t fathom
I can say with so much certainty, I can't down pick fast for shit, fastest I can downpick is probably Anthem two by Blink 182
Like economy picking? or string skipping
String skipping
I get why people like it, but i just don't care haha
Like skipping a whole string or more
Neither, it's just a technique
not tied to any genre really
Yeah I guess I don't do it all that often
Like I might do a 578 riff going from 6th to 4th strings but thats really about it
I can do 2 string skips pretty easily .. but some shit sounds really cool with the 3-4 skips. Just hard timing for me
valid valid
a good one to learn to practice string skipping is Jaded by Spiritbox
Try the 7 day free trial here:
https://www.mixwave.net/products/spiritbox-mike-stringer
Mike Stringer performing "Jaded" using presets from the MixWave: Spiritbox plugin which was used to record "The Fear of Fear" coming November 3rd.
Presets used:
"Chunk" - Main heavy tone
"Direct Clean" - Main clean tone
"Dotted Ambience" - Dotted 8ths
"...
some of the best use of string skipping ive seen
And once you learn to play it, it feels super fluid
Hell yeah. Not a huge fan of Lorna shores new stuff but Adam’s down picked riffs are just insane lol
Mhm yummy
Fact
I diddnt know you liked sb
I got into them when holy roller dropped but i also like IWABO
I have the stems for holly roller if you want em
Crazy how both Spiritbox and electric callboy blew up during the pandemic around the same time
I saw the videos for holy roller and hypa hypa in the same day
Found spiritbox randomly in 2017 with the Mara effect live one take. It was so fucking good man. I miss when they were more proggy
Got the holy roller 7 in lol
I remember when iwabo dropped Tastes Like Kevin Bacon and fucked the entire scene up with their chaos. I miss Krysta. It'd be fucking insane if Spiritbox featured Krysta as a massive throwback, she's still somewhat active in music. As for spiritbox the second they started teasing shit after iwabo broke up I was hype. When The Beauty Of Suffering dropped it was clear they were gonna be unstoppable. Marra Effect pt 3 and Belcarra are still my favorite Spiritbox songs. That first EP was so experimental.
Also, this is entirely nostalgia speaking I'm sure, but I prefer the original demo mix of Tastes Like Kevin Bacon to the re-recorded album mix.
wasn't the original demo mix in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrFTR9fucr8 ?
can't hear much difference because the audio quality is crispy but i do notice that the snare is mixed differently and vocals are more distorted
also on the side note iwabo's version of uprising is so good
@vale vapor @runic adder i fixed the bass, how's it sounding now
bass could some down a bit now
but much better
lotta new stuff here, I'm struggling with the balance on the melodic part
Everything sounds fine until the synth comes in
Oh wait I figured it out
The resse bass was messing everything up
This better?
yep
Yes the original mix is in the music video and I fucking love it lol
neat
@vale vapor Is there anything I need to fix here?
guitar sounds like it's incorrectly panned
sounds like only one track
drums are a bit uncompressed/underprocessed
bass is muddy in the 100hz region
@formal hedge
also there are multiple offbeat drum parts
very sturgy but i think the room mics should come way up
also you could edit the guitars a bit tighter
good old mathcore
Guitar being incorrectly panned may come from using NAMOG
I'm surprised you didn't catch it
It's really easy to tell when something is mono vs stereo
Probably humanizing timing too much
it sounds like it wasn't placed on grid
How much are you humanizing?
i humanize at 6 timing at the max
never above that
15% timing
30% velocity
Got it
oh yeah whatever happened to that drummer that quit if you used midis
He's still in the band
Everything I send in here (that has MIDI) is a demo
We're going to record real drums once I'm done with demos
Along with real bass
gotcha
Because our guitarist got a bass
We were going to just use MIDI bass but now we don't have to
nice
It's a P-bass but it's better than nothing
nothing wrong with a p bass
just change the strings often and set the strings low
so you get some clangy buzz
sounds good on the heavy stuff
isn't 30 velocity a bit too much?
I do like 10% at most
then again I mostly humanize my drums as im writing anyway so maybe it's too much for my application
humanizing manually is the way
I have a sticky note on my desk just to remind me of my process lol
BRB making bassoon metal
dude...mayonnaise metal...
yes
good old choppin 🪓 🪓
also i finally have melodyne
iwabo is mah pookie
i think i should do less 200 hz boosts on my snare tbh
Bro, i have an Ocarina, totally going to make Ocarina metal
You just reminded me I also have Melodyne, but I need to find my licence, i completely forgot I had it and its probably not activated... thank you Focusrite
yomch
Dude yes!
We need a metal cover of that one song from Zelda OoT
Don't own anything. The lost woods, definetely my favorite music piece from Ocarina of Time... to be honest this used to be my favorite video game music piece but Gusty Garden and The Purple Coin Run from Super Mario Galaxy are starting to overtake that position. Though this is still my favorite musc from OoT. Enjoy.
This one
I could probably easily learn Sarias song
ngl i still bump the lost woods dubstep remix
That fucks. You have the raws?!
Currently remixing my seasons album, starting with this one
What the hell, this shit is peak\
That was my first interface lol
You have the ringing at 2150hz too?
thank ya good sir
I mean, the mix yk, can you give some tips, id love to mix like this but i just dont even know how to start
yessir
idk but it's noisy
What should a master chain look like to yall?
A good mix first
Make sure your mix is doing everything it can to make the mastering chain as light as possible
That said, for me it's always compression, low shelf at 15hz to reduce out inaudible sub frequencies, multiband compression, tiny bit of tape saturation, brickwall limiter
If I'm doing an EDM master I'll throw OTT on there, or even more compression
Typically I run a little bit of tape saturation, sometimes a high shelf eq, a clipper, a limiter, and then an eq so I can look at the frequency response of the track
"OTT on the master"
for EDM yeah
Yeah I know it just sounds so wrong
props to kotori and jvna for the original song
will upload to streaming if i get permission
Used it on this master
it works very well for EDM when you actually know how to blend it in
With the stuff I make I don't use it often
But it's a very good plugin
I don’t even own it lol
It's free brother
Most plugins are if you look hard enough
its freeware
Mans asking the real questions ha
How is it? I've only had the scarlet solo gen 3
This kind of sounds like EARLY TDWP
it's garbage honestly
my cleans kinda sound like depoysters actually
Oh true, noted, I won't recommend it to anyone I know, I'll say get a Scarlet or try another brand
Oh true?! early Deployster or current deployster?
(Screams incoherently in high pitch tone behind clean vocals)
I realised I missed this,
like just to see how you can make it sound?
I also I missed this,
Just to see what you can do?
i can mix it in the style of joey sturgis
I know the name but not his work so no idea what this means exactly
lemme see what I sent here, not at home rn
.
all good, I'm at work,
Oh this is what i said made me think of TDWP
OOH IN that case I am familiar ha
rah
I just want practice mixing
Can someone explain sidechaining like I’m 12
Audio 1 makes audio 2 be quiet whenever audio 1 plays
E. G. Kick and bass
Sidechain on bass = any time kick hits, bass becomes quiet for the duration of the kick playing
Very useful for making your kick pop
I sidechain bass to kick 99% of the time
Only need about 3db of reduction for it to sound good
Updating my mixing technique for the whole album
Guitars sound like they're ducking when the drums hit, like the master is being overcompressed
Still? Is it a lot or just a bit? And how is the rest?
Yeah levels sound pretty good besides the ducking
Hm, I think I have a compressor on my master track with -6 db, maybe a bit too much. Just wanted to boost the volume a bit more
Oooo, good idea
Compress the busses, then the instrumental bus, then the master with a mastering compressor, multiband, and then a brickwall limiter
each one shouldn't be doing too much
And use a loudness meter to measure how loud you're aiming for
Yeah, thank you!
I’ve never done sidechaining because I didn’t know what that was, after this explanation, I think I might need to play around with it a bit, sounds fun.
It's useful to make your kick pop more
I almost always do it
2-3db of reduction is plenty
I never
Sturg did it most likely
Possibly, maybe, perhaps in later stuff like new demons
I don't sidechain anymore.
Okay that's a lie. Sometimes I use soothe to sidechain vocals to the instrument bus.
Man this took so long but I think I'm finally making some head room on this
I've now mixed every track, bus and mix bus and I think this is sounding pretty good
Now that ive listene through it through better headphones its a little muddy but i dont think its terrible ha
Nooo😭
Not the soothechain 🥀
you know it's bad when a white boy pulls out the 🥀 emoji
Crazy work
WIP, but first actual shot at writing something deathcore.
