this sounds just like A Path Less Traveled
band: a path less traveled
song: we're bringing xanga back
album: from here on out
genre: screamo, electronic, post-hardcore

A Path Less Traveled - We're Bringing Xanga Back
The very presence of you
The very presence of you
Is ever so fright...
removed the room entirely here
dang this sounds catchy lol
Rawwwrrs weren't rawwwrry enough
So i changed my bass sim and um, is this too much?
Decent budget monitors?
the buster mix for prey for plagues lowk sounds sick
mixing is subjective but no
i dont understand how to hyperprocess somthing
only in aus
@vale vapor lol
you can get accused of stealing if you dont have a recipt here
yet the checkout machines have an option not to print a recipt
Has it been released yet?
made this
kick sounds a bit clipped but sounds good otherwise
id say kick is too loud in general
guitars could be louder
somethin different. headphone mix.
new mix, not exaxctly sure what it is but I feel like the balance is ever so slightly off
@vale vapor @runic adder
ever so slightly?
LOL
It's pretty hard to hear what's going on in the intro, it's pretty cluttered and the drums are muffled overall
Drums also sound offbeat
Are you placing them on grid?
Wouldn't be suprised if they were off
You gotta make sure youir drums are actually on the grid
Do you hear that they aren't hitting on the right times?
Can you send a screenshot of the midi editor i'm curious
Oh yeah it's way off especially at the end
Do you have snap turned on?
you see all those vertical lines? ALL your drum beats should be spot on those
I usually keep that off
These aren't even on the lines at all
tried a new style
op my bad diddnt mean to interupt
No i thought you were posting that saying it was an original demo
I was like "Bro this is just circle with me"
yeah i tried to make it sound more live
ah LOL
sounds good but i think your shakers are too loud again
that happened on your mix of swamp song
the top loops/shaker loops were wayy too loud
do you have any specific reason why?
I believe a while ag I saw a SpectreSound video that said keeping it off would keep drums from feeling "robotic"
š
i love spectresound but he has some boomer takes
What you should be doing is placing the drums on the grid using snap, then you can go back and manually humanize the hits with "H"
Makes sense
that way, the hits actually stay on beat relative to eachother
and don't just shift off over time
This sounding better? Fixed drums and lowered impacts some to lighten the intro's "clutter"
Also, I feel like this sounds too produced in a way
Like it reminds me of a Cervini mix kinda
Which I really don't want
the guitar gets pretty offbeat from the drums near the end
Yeah I'm gonna track new guitars next
you should practice playing to a metronome
also, is the impact supposed to hit before everything else?
Typically impacts hit at the same time
Yes
Gotcha
That was your impact btw
LOL i could tell
Free pack is great
Also used a chango bassdrop, the one you sent in here the one time
W
I got pinged
Iāll listen when Iām home, working rn
Listen to the one lower in the chat
It's better
Are these decent for a budget? They popped up on marketplace.
can you elaborate on this
lol
hmm not sure, ive never used that brand
just look up the frequency response graph, the flatter the better
though you should look into room treatment as well
timing issues aside, the guitars and bass could come up a little
I use a slightly different version of these, i think that's a good deal
my monitors are one model adjacent to these from the same brand, they're a bit scooped but they're good esp for $120 as a set imo
guitars might need a tube screamer and a new cab, the guitar tone is a bit strange
could be style tho
also the guitars are getting ducked quite a bit by the drums
i wouldnt recomend
i have maudios, they have too much bass in a bad way
but also
room treatment first
is there anything apart from that?
I canāt do room treatment unfortunately. But itās find by me tbh. I really just make music for fun.. if I ever want a full studio production then Iāll just pay someone lol
Should I look into a good headphone instead then?
Absotutley
most people cant dont worry
i recomend you ask @halcyon holly
Hd490 pro aka speaker on your head pro
Noted but I am on more of a budget lol
do you know much about the DT770s
Theyāre awful
HD6xx
really?
I was looking at the hd280 pros
I know they are alot cheaper but for me I think they might suffice
Wouldnāt reccomend
For mixing you want open back
Otherwise just get IEMs
whats wrong with them
How do I put this
Imagine putting your ears in an acoustically compromised tin can and mixing on that
I understand but we are talking sub $100 lmao
Essentially any closed back is not a good solution
IEMs then
100%
Or if you can find HD560s, get those
Those are like £80-100 here
well im wearing them LOL, i have noticed they are VERYYYY bright
Theyāre just soā¦mediocre
Any closed back aināt a good choice for mixing
For tracking yes
But when it comes down to it either open back or monitors
Thereās quite a few open back options for my price point .. youāre just saying they wouldnāt be as good as some iems?
Which options
Truth of the situation rn is closed backs up to Ā£200 canāt compete with Ā£20 IEMs
Itās like, Neumann u87 vs KSM32
Both are great. One isnāt for its price
These seem popular .. would I just get a 1/4in jack adapter for the focusrite?
Get zero 2
Cool, so whatās the main difference with these? Never thought of using iems.. I figured they wouldnāt be good for mixing at all
did you get his pack?
My bad, was asleep
The best way I can describe it is that the mix sounds too processed
Which is weird because I'm not using many plug-ins in the first place
Yeah I think this could be why
That's crazyš it sounds very raw to me
I used one of the pings from your free pack, it may need some phase flipping
your guitars need some brightening, u might wanna change to a different IR, definitely not sounding overproduced
So basically
I was using this
Which sounds great on it's own
But it's not amazing in a mix
But now I'm using profiles of everything that was in that individually
Which is way better
where do you load it, the og NAM or the wavemind version of NAM?
OG NAM
Ik that's not the usual but I prefer the simplicity of NAM over NAMU
Updated mix
Well it's not only simpler it's kinda buggy and you have to duplicate it for each track
NAMU you can load on the group
It has true stereo processing
NAM og doesn't
Also NAMU isn't complicated, its the exact same stuff, it just has optional extras
You don't need to turn on the other modules
Yeah in comparison to the new mix this sounds really dark
I have those
lowk a little mid heavy and the bass isn't all there, but they work well otherwise
sounds like everything in the beginning is clipping, the guitar sounds pretty muffled and the drums sound pretty unprocessed
deathcore 808 moment
@vale vapor can i get some thoughts on the mix? lot of moving parts. Ignore the snare i don't have kontakt 8 full edition so i have to constantly load in the snare when i render so i have my underlying sample as the only snare in there rn
holy metalcore title
mix is good though
I like how pronounced the bass is
i may be biased but my bias in this case is a correct opinion
Imo guitars need to come up
Sounds pretty good overall i think
I'm on earbuds tho
how do these sound? not much done to them out the box. its just the free deviant drums
Didnāt mess with the velocities either lol I literally just dragged and dropped a couple midi files for a test
snare is crazy loud
the cymbals are ducking like crazy
overall drum tone could be cool in a mixed song
Yeah I know, like I said didnāt mess with volumes. Left everything loud to see if tone was decent
I decided to rerecord and clean this up and played with my tone and eq for the guitars - hows it sounding?
Added bass
the guitars are sounding good yea
the lead at 1:00 is a little loud?
I feel like I need to play with the levels a bit but I was really vibing with the Tone and Eq of the guitars
just from when it cuts out and pops back in i think it's a little extreme
i think the levels are fine lowk it's just that lead
Oh I know the part, I have them records in stereo andhard panned that part so it camne through slightly soft but then the rest kind of just kick in for the chorus
But I agree wtih you on the lead volume
This better? Velocities and volumes are still a little off. Trying squeeze in time while my newborn sleeps lol. I am liking the tones though
kick is ducking the cmybals too much
also quite clipped
very good though
How to I fix the ducking? Never had this problem before
Yes. Unfortunately this version of deviant doesnāt have multiout routing. So most of the mix is inside the plugin itself. But it has so compressor
Yeah itās not in the free version of deviant 2
Iām eventually gonna buy the full version but I wanted to test this out
no its kontakt, it just takes a bit of work :c
follow this, tell me if you have any issues c:
No bro Iām deadass, deviant took out multi routing in the free version lol. Unless you are saying there is a way to bypass that
Would a multiband compressor reduce the ducking? I wanna do everything I can with this free one for now until I get the money
there is
Oh okay, Iāll look into it
see this?
Thatās only on deviant 1
His reply to me
i recomend ssd
yeah right, that sucks
i would look into SSD, ML drums or restrains kit
all free w/ multi out
restrains kit is my personal fav, and i have not tried ssd yet but alot of the people on here go crazy about it
Yeah. I just really like these drums. Iāve hardly had to do anything to them to make them sound decent. Thereās gotta be a way I can minimize the ducking. Not really looking for a studio mix right this moment
just ease on the compression
make sure you start multi routing asap pls tho
it will change your mixes for the better
me before multi route LOl
I do multi route on ggd. The problem was invasion was a hellish kit to mix when you are a beginner like me. Iāll be getting the full version to multi route before I release anything
okay, i would look into the free plugins first tho
up to you
yummy ggd
I might, I have no problem spending the money to get the exact sound I want. Ggd never achieved that
be careful, you will go bankrupt
stay away from waves
dont take the candy
lol
Oh trust Iām not made of money lmao
The last thing I bought was invasion when it first came out. Itās time for an upgrade. Atleast a more user/beginner friendly one
lol i fell for the waves trick
$30 per plugin
you add a few and you have a $900 cart
annnndd then it gets converted to AUD and you loose all of your money
Just duplicate the vst like five times and then solo each drum on each instance and route them separately
MY PCCCCC
i cant imagine the cpu usage
Well probably not high if its just a sample library
Maybe a bit high on the ram side tho
welcome to ableton live, where we amplify your CPU usage by how much we hate you thatt day
Actually not a bad idea, so should I not be compressing the cymbals as much or what?
I mean yeah if it's ducking a ton, don't smash it all into a comp so hard
Look at the compressors gain reduction meter
It shouldn't be jumping to like -30
Bet thanks dude
little riff salad thing i wrote while trying to break a writerās block
Im working on some doom/stoner stuff on acoustic bass on a yt stream. Is there a channel I can post a link in that doesn't break the rules? I just wanna get some feedback. Thanks ā¤ļø
@vale vapor thoughts on this mix?
working on a new song, added chugs under the leads, thought the chug pattern was familliar, i did an asking alexandria
kms
holy clip
So i thought it was just my pc gaming headset... then i trued my headphones on my phone haha
The lead though sounds kinda spooky in that pattern though which is sick
Clayton king type shit
rah thank you
updated a tad
Is there a free alternative to the profab eq?
I just use TDR Nova for everything
I think Ozone 12 EQ is free? thats what I use as an alternative
Otherwise I've hear TDR NOva is free
Quite literally the only reason I haven't used it is I
- just only heard of it recently
2)I already had Ozeon 12 EQ - I have TOO many plugins in my computer and don't know how to find and delete them haha
theyre in the default vst directory
most likely C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vst Plugins
or minus the steinberg part
My problem is that in my attempt to organise I have many folders for VST like an absolute dumbass so I just need to spend time cleaning up and getting rid of ones I don't use or like
True
I don't think they take up too much space anyway so its not really storage issue, more of just trying to filter through them in my DAW thats a pain in the ass ha
In reaper you can assign vsts to specific folders
It took me an unnecessarily long time to figure out how to change my input and output in Reaper lol
I got to used to Cakewalk haha
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 is also very common
True
Now that folder I know exists ha
How is this tone? Trying to dial in my 6 string
I like it, makes me think of like Old Miss May I a little
Maybe a little more on the mids? But that might just be my headphones
I think your right!
Let me know iof I am right haha I have no idea tbh haha
oh yeah needs way more mids
that's a suuuper scooped tone
gain probably also needs to come down
Okay cool. Iām boosting some mods on eq so I think Iām gonna boosting on amp. I think they are scooped there
lowk reminds me of this

I have a dr drive on but itās like hardly doing much, more attack than gsin
Love this album so much
That and mirrors got me through middle / highschool
i need to relisten to that album
yeah found that back when google music was still a thing lol
My setting I used for one of my songs is
Gain - 6-7
Bass - 6
Mids - 3-5
High 6
Presence - 6
Using a 5150 Sim,
But of course play with what you want until you find your tone
s-preshigh š¤¤
This isnāt gonna be a song i donāt think, just laying down quick riffs to practice mixing
Yessssss thatās the one!!
You use that for left and right ?
based
me personally i keep gain at 4-4.5 and put a tube screamer before the amp. you get way more note clarity while retaining the overdrive sound
i dont think there are many mixes that pull off different tones/different sides that weren't because they were recorded live and had to be like that
and even then sometimes its ehh
Ah yeah, I do a tube scream with 0-1 drive, full level and keep tone aroun 5-6
ive tried it and it hasn't worked imo
ik the somatic defilement does it but i have a soft spot for that album so you won't catch me criticising the mix
I basically just looked up what bands that influenced me do and I imitate that and then just fix what I need to
Most of them seem to do that approach
Iām really trying to learn all this shit. Itās overwhelming, but after getting some monitors and in ears to track, Iām starting to hear some of the things you guys are talking about
lets gooo
I might change that dr drive to the tse and boost mids
Dude same, I've been playing music for 20 years, only started to learn how to record in the last 2 years but really dialing it in over the last month or so, and to be honest, these guys have been a HUGE help
youve been playing music longer than ive been alive...
I turn 20 this year lol š«
Oh damn, I saw your band on tiktok and thought you looked young hahah
Yeah huge help
I'm 32 this year, started when I was 12, well, playing music since I was 8, but got into guitar and metal at 12
29 next week here
I tried recording 6 years ago and pretty much immediately gave up. I suck but I REALLY sucked then
@timber forum How this sounds is because of the help these guys have given... the original was SO far from sounding this good ha
Yeah I built my PC and got my interface in 2023, tried it for a few demos, realised I didn't know what I was doing, gave up, lost my spark. I jammed with my brother in Jan this year (we play and listen to different styles of music) and immediately re lit the spark.
Way to make me feel old haha I REMEMBER THE DENNYS VIDEO when it happened
golly
That sounds sick dude
didn't they just revive it for a marketing thing too?
I'm in another country but I remember when it happened
Yeah I think they did, but apparently not enough wavinig of arms
This was my first song I wrote and tried to mix., put it out a couple weeks ago. Turned out okay I guess but now Iām hearing so much I want to change
I also remember this lol
Oh nice haha I need to record vocals,
Itās my buddy screaming . I just did instrumental
I have 5 full songs written, lyrics to three of them, half lyrics to two of them
I think I've shared at least something to 4 of them in this channel
Did you mix and master it yourself or did you send it to someone?
I did everything . Even the art lmao
When your kids take all your money you have to work with what ya got lmao
A fellow parent loving music I see hahaha
But nah I dig it, I'm listening right now
Thanks bro!
I did stank face a little at the start, I also kind of dig the choir
Yeah! It wasnāt supposed to really have symphonic elements but being a lord of the rings theme it kind of needed it
I got really into gutteral slug recently and did this because I thought it was hilarious but parts of this song make me think of this thing I did
This is unmixed and I was just dicking around
My next mix is going to be so much better. I need to start on song 2 . Got a lot of nice people on Instagram that have helped get us out there. Mostly in the MySpace revival scene . Awesome guys
I think without it, the song would feel a little, hollow?
Yeah thatās why I added them back in haha
Bring back melodeath inspired riffs in metalcore ha
Okay thatās sick. Iāve been wanting to write a slam song
I think modern stuff is great, don't get me wrong, I love INK, MIW, Bad Omens etc, but I'm kidn of sick of hearing the over polished metal of today lol
You and me both
I was always really into watch musicina mansion and the Dickey Dines show, and listening to Greystone, saw the fun Nik and the others had so decided to do that
Yeah my taste in music has completely changed. Everyone now is just hopping on the over produced octane core. Thatās why Iām leaning towards underground and revival stuff. Itās so refreshing. Thatās why I like what @vale vapor does. Itās new with good production but gives off older vibes
Like, sure the song has to sound finished and like the instruments can be played, but I really miss like old school Parkway, I Killed the Prom queen, In Flames etc
It was mixed and masters, but it wasn't polished, it sounded almost raw in a sense
If it hasn't given it away for where I'm from, I keep referencing Aussie bands haha
iktpq hell yeah
I checked out their band today, it sounds sick, makes me think of Old TDWP
I have a tdwp tattoo on my leg haha
One of my favorites
Along with an AFI and The word alive tattoo . I used to love those guys
TDWP is one of my favourite bands, my fav is Linkin Park, I have their logo tattooed on my arm
Hell yeah dude
I just feel too many modern bands are over polished and too "technical" for me to enjoy anymore, I like simple, but fun
Best aussie band is Hands Like Houses
Idec
I used to listen to them non fucking stop haha
I've met the guitarist of House vs Hurrican/ Bassist of Dream on Dreamer, he lives in my town and is one of my clients
Dream on dreamer were sick
Dream on dreamer is so good!!!!!
All those old Chango bands
Are my favorites ever
I personally never got into them, but in saying that, when I was younger, I was kind of elitists in a sense haha now I'm older, I love all music... except black Metal, just can't do it
LOL
Chango?
Chango Studios
Yeah I know who you;'re talking about now ha
He's my producer inspiration
Boris the blade and the red shore are also great Aussie bands
I guess now that I'm learning to produce my inspo is whoever the fuck sits at home and does it themselves? haha
LOL
Red shore isn't too bad, Jamie eventually became vocalist of IKTP and is now their bassist
Yessir
I REALLY hope they bring out new music with the current line up, I think Michael Crafter is a dickhead but UI love his vocals and the band as a whole have an amazing sound imo
But @timber forum your song was sick, I dig the "UH" at the end breakdown
Ping me when the next one drops... and if I ever get around to finishing my songs and publishing I guess I'll ping whoeever wants to know?
Yo thanks bro! Itās only up from here hopefully! Gonna get back on the 7 string tomorrow. Just wanted to riff tonight while I had the time. Elden ring song in the works. I love themes lol
Yes ping me for sure
@timber forum
This is another one of my songs that I've recently done
I heard that the other day! Itās sick. Great vibes to it. I love the clean guitar in it too I always try to listen to everyoneās snippets on hear even if I donāt comment on them haha
Thats one I'm nearly happy enough to do vocals on, but You can kind of pin point where clean vocals would be and screams would be haha
Oh yeah all good haha I was just more pointing out another song I've done too for you ha
I almost thinking screams for the chorus too. Maybe like a toned scream. Those octaves have really good melody
Oh interesting, I was thinkin Cleans in Verse 1 a, then whenre the dun dun dun dun bit fo Verse 1 comes in, it goes to screams, the cleans for the chorus with a screamed end back into the itnro, then all screams on verse 2 ha
So many options. I think any of them would sound sick
I hadn't even considered screams on the schorus to be honest... I'm not even sure if I can Pitch scream tbh haha
I just know I can't fry scream... I think, idk what I do, I just do it and it doesn't hurt
Screamings hard haha
Well this is me virtually raw with only reverb, like the entire song is unmixed
And ive done the harmonied screams in it
your screams are sick
To me the guitar sounds really muffled and the whole mix has a 100% reverb kind of sound to it.
Had time to tweak a little last night
Weird. Thereās no reverb lol
Mids sounds much better, but something still sounds slightly off, but i cant pin point it
What amp/amp sim are you using?
Namu 5150 tone, catharsis ir
I mean thereās no bass . Could be that lol
Iām about to start writing for a song anyways . This was just some fun riff salad that might become an idea later
well are double tracking your guitars l and r
what? there's clearly no verb
LOL
Sounds like 1-2k is boosted way too much
I was listening on earpods so idk
yeah wtf lol
i would stay away from giving advice for now, it can lead people in directions they shoulnt go and possibly cause a bad self imageabout somthing thatsnot even true
be careful and stay at your level.
can i try mix this lol
also @vale vapor what do you think of this mix
guitars/master ducks a tad too much imo but i like this a lot
Kick also gets a bit lost in places
needs to cut through in the high end more
oh wtf my headphones are out of phase somehow
how does that even happen
i have no idea lol
signal is sent to both earphones at the same time
Think you are right on the 1-2k boost. And yes Iām double tracking
try to get the tone a bit more well rounded overall
Will do! I like the eq you recommended a lot btw! Really good
Yesss TDR the goat
Yeah thanks for that lol
Let me show u what a well-rounded guitar signal looks like in an EQ
that way you can use it as a visual reference
eventually you should work on training your ear, but this is fine for now
i always tell people don't mix with your eyes
but at your level that might be harder to get just right yet
This is generally what my guitars look like in an analyzer
It will vary depending on tone
But we don't want it looking like this
LOL
Yes it is for right now. But Iāll say, my ears are getting much better. Not great but some improvement is better than none. Iām definitely hearing the harshness that comes out of the 5-6k range well and can dial that in. The mid to lower frequencies is where I still struggle
But scoop the kids bro
LOL
Sure haha I guess haha
scoop the kids š£ļø
scoop the kids š£ļø
scoop the kids š£ļø
Yeah you are right, my headphones are being stupid so it sounds mono
Yippie, just DM me the raw stems and drum midi and I'll mix it when I get home
All good! Not to throw shade but there are some people in here that I feel like just say random shit about mixes lol. Like saying it sounds like thereās 100% reverb on the dryest sounding track is just wierd. Idk
Thank you btw I wanted to mix something random
Okay give me a bit to do it, i uhm, need to rerecord some parts due to me being a dumbass haha
But can do it over the weekend for you easy
LOL you don't have to worry I'm horrible at tracking too
Do you want the whole song or just the breakdown i showed?
Xenon knows
Whatever your comfortable with C:
Aight I'll send it over the weekend
Ive figured how to do some vocal set up in my untreated room lol
Lol yeah be careful of them, I recommend listening to Xenon, he's the reason I didn't suck
You and xenon are very trusted! I appreciate yall
I agree with this, i only started learning to mix a month ago so im in the midst of rerecording cleaner tracks to mix ha
That's good! Your screams are really cool, room sound is a very good way to push them further
Yeah Iām still really fresh haha. My biggest thing was just getting ear fatigue then fucking everything up
Thanks dude
That was literally me sitting like 15cm away from my mic facing my pc screens
And then you will get into commissions and all of your knowledge disappears because they are sound cloud rappers who record "in the corner of the room that has no bouncy sound"
True story
Bahaha fair
interesting
Lol every one starts.somewhere
I would personally not recommend recording in a room with reflections
The less room sound in your room the better
That's not what I meant lol
All g
But what about a soundcloud rock star? Haha
Lol I always add a room verb to my screams
My old band has live unmixed demos on soundcloud that we recorded in a community hall haha
What hurts my feelings is you guys always send these ālook how bad I wasā and the mix is still better than me trying ššš
added in post yeee
lolllll you will get to a good level quickly
Felt
Maybe 2
Idk I feel like I nailed the guitar and bass mix in the first song I did. Just wasnāt happy with the drums and overall song. But the guitar felt great
This was me like a year ago
Atleast for the tone I was going for
I feel like this honestly further than where I am lol
Lol
What's funny is that you are 20yrs older than me hahah
So you're 9?
Id say you are quite good
Wait
To clear things up mate
Im 32
Wagz is 29
Xenon is 20
So please math this
I'm 14
Nooooooooo
holy math
As this is a feedback chat, my feedback is use a calculator
Mans has to be joking right
This was me 5 years ago when I gave up . Could never get anywhere lmao
No lol I'm just bad at math
Thanks bro šš¼
Hold On I gotta go to school or whatever
this may have been the first metal demo i ever tried to make
this is when i was just starting to produce dubstep when i was like 12 lol
absolutely not
Lolll
Cool rock thing says it all
God itās bad š riff was cool though
immediately a better mix than most beginnners lol
you have a knack for it
Is this better than my current mixes then? Cause I donāt wanna be going backwards lmaooo
Which is crazy cause thereās like no processing on anything in these. I had literally no clue what an ir was. I was just using out the box bias fx tones and ggd raw
The guitar tone is a bit better
I also think your drum processing on the newer mixes is a bit overkill
You're in the beginner arc everyone has where you overcompensate at first LOL
Yup š
Iām getting better results now that Iām using less and less effects and trying to get a better source first.
I mesnt about being 14 haha
Thats okay bro, we'll grow together haha
This is 100% video game menu theme
I found recently less is more
I think my guitar fx are tube screamer > amp sim > eq and thats it
Mine is Transient Shaper (yeah really) - Tube Screamer - Amp - EQ - Multiband Compression
I've found it to work pretty well
Ah yeah I do Multiband over all guitars at the end in a master guitar bus
Transient shaper š„
All I'm using it for is a very slight attack boost
Sounds like your playing needs more pick attack
I mean it sounds fine without it but I've found that 10% or so more transient helps it stand out in the mix more
I also guarantee you aren't hearing that transient shaper through an amp
If it's only a tiny boost
I believe Joey Sturgis was the person who mentioned it a YouTube video
My chain is tse, Namu, multiband for palm mutes, eq
How do you set it up in your daw as far as Track to Bus ratio?
Guitar di L
Guitar di R
⤵ļø
Guitar Rhythm
⤵ļø
Guitar Bus
Then i have another di L and R pair going into Guitar Lead also going i to Guitar Bus
I know yours haha I was more meaning for Wagz
Repeat for however many tracks
BUt I do the same, but I also have a Lead Gtr bus that goes into a Master Gt Bus
W
For me bussing inside a bus is only necessary if I have leads
Di LT
Di RT
Bus
Lt
Rt
Wait so you have your L &R tracks into a bus but then have additional L&R?
I have a bus, then in that bus I have left and right double tracked guitars
Oh I get you now haha Okay
Its not rlly a bus its just a pair in a folder
Yeah sorry idk why I explained it like that haha
Left and right guitars are routed to the bus though?
L&R > Bus > Master Bus?
Iām confused lol
Essentially yeah
Yeah but what's the point in it if those are the only two tracks I have on the overall guitar bus
I don't have to duplicate all the processing
I can just throw both di tracks in a folder and all processing on the folder
Wouldnāt the guitar bus just go to the master track anyways if itās routed to it
yes
Rhythm R & Rhythm L > Rhythm Bus - Added FX for Track here
Lead and Harmony (ior Lead L and Lead R if you fancy) to Lead Bus - Added FX for Track here
Rhythm Bus > Master Guitar Bus
Lead Bus > Master Guitar Bus
- Add Wide Band compression to the AMster Guitar Bus
Master guitar Bus > Mast Project Bus
So Iām going it right then yeah? Lol
This is my set up, the Master Guitar bus was at Xenons Rec and I noticed a huge difference
Thatās a lot of busses haha but yeah I get it
I thought so too, but Honetly, It means I'm doing less lol
At first it seems alot but when it comes to Mixing I have found it significantly easier
My guitar bus just has eq and multiband comp, my tracks within the buss have my gate, tube, amp
Thatās just how I saw other people on YouTube set it up haha
it doesnt really matter as long as you're able to have an easy time processing everything
that's all that matters
that it sounds good and it isnt a pain to process
Yeah I found it much easier then before when I didnāt know about busses, I would just process my seperate guitar tracks and I realized that was so wrong
My Daw Buses So far at literally set up like this
CLEANS BUS

And because I know I'm about to be told I have too many leads, not all tracks have something it ha
why center guitar?
Sometimes I want something to help "Boost"
I know it sounds weird, but the Chorus to my song has three rhythms
ONe on Left, One on Right and the Centre basically just "Bossts" the bass with the chugs
mmmmmmmmm
I got the Idea from Through Struggle as they do 3 x Guitars in some "Chuggy" parts
I wouldn't recommend that
introducing more than 2 of the same part tracks causes weird phase issues and sounds cluttered
eh it works and it's turned right down
Unless you're editing them incredible tightly, there's no reason to do it as it eats up all your headroom and the pick attacks won't perfeclty line up
If quad tracking is this right?
Left and right guitars double tracked with full tone
An additional left and right with a different tone but just blended in ?
Yeah I don't do it often, I just thought I'd try it and it worked,
The version I've been posting here has 4 guitar parts in it
Rhythm L, Rhythm R, Rhythm C and Lead
I also do not recommend this
Anything more than 2 tracks (L and R) of the same part is too much
I don't know why quad tracking is such a pervasive myth in the production space
Yeah never tried it just curious
Oh I should prefice that my 3 rhtyhm part all "slightly" differ
It just sounds bad, and almost none of your favorite records actually use proper quad tracking
The only type of triple or quad tracking you should do is when each pair plays a different part
That way it's more "wall of sound" and it doesn't matter if the pick attacks line up or not
Like whitechapel haha
Yeee
But yeah otherwise, I normally wouldn't Triple or Quadtrack because it can definitely mud it up
Obviously there are outliers, if you're trying to make drone music or something experimental, do whatever you want
But also Centre Guitar can be if you're doing some kidn of weird edited intro
True
I did always like how they used 3 guitarists ha
jus a lil demo. Working with entirely free plugins, a minimal knowledge of mixing, and passion. It obv just finishes at the end suddenly cuz it aint done
What a fucking sample holy
sounds great! could use a bit more beef overall but that's just me
lmao
All free plugins is the method
I really like this, but yeah could be a bit beefier but I think it sounds great
Tonex gives no beef in the tone š
but im also ass at making tones
ah true
Also i think the cymbals might be panned incorrectly, they sound narrow
Make sure your overheads are panned left and right
havnt really gotten past simple EQs in the mixing as of now
free drum plugin š
cant control individual parts
i dont think
wait
I know some here recommend SSD.5 Free
I've tried it a little but haven't been happy with the outcomes so far and always end up back at Addictive drums
me, ssd5.5 free is great
Duplicate the vst/library and solo individual pieces
that way you can manually control it all
oh then kudos to you, sounds awesome
ah sick
im using Krimh Drums free edition with Kontakt
What out of the Drums indiviual tracks would you pan L & R?
Like this is how mine is usually set up

wait theres a "crash left" and a "crash right" but I dont know if it means it panning wise or literally wise
I think it literally means they are on the left and right of the drum kit, but Can't answer if they're default panned
those crashes
no clue
I've been trying to work this out myself so if you find an answer, lmk
yeah the mixer requires the paid version
its centre panned, I clicked it with nothing playing and the master audio thingy is showing it left and right
Check out deviant drums and see what you think. I really like them. Bout to buy the full version
pan drums based on position relative to the drummer
crash L pan left
crash R pan right
ill write it down
Its tedias and a pain in the ass, but seperate out each drum to its own track and mix in the track, not in kontakt
yes
Pan relative to the drummer's position
Aww shit, my mix about to get even better
I'll do this over the weekend
I want my SHIT FINISHED
but ive been using one crash by using just the midi keyboard and choosing whichever one sounds better
its 2am for me i should sleep buttttt
I tend to go with R Crash alot because Snare
oh nah
š„
Its 11:!3am for me and I'm currently at work ha
ive never been interested in drums I have no clue š
its 2am for me and im unemployed
so i cant buy sick plugins
I've been interested but not enough to learn until the last month
Write drums based on how a drummer plays
Left crash is called the main crash, that one is for the beginning of measures, the impactful parts
Right crash is called the accent crash, used to fill in the majority of the beat
ive always hated programming drums
Whether you have absolutely zero drum knowledge or you are a more experienced writer already, this video detailing how I program drums will help you make your first beat and/or learn new tricks and different concepts.
I break down how to program drums in 3 steps - building a foundation attributing roles to different kit pieces, adding and remov...
ive got like a black metal demo from like 2 years ago and its genuinely got the most atrocious drum beat#
i think I deleted it
I have a love/hate relationship with it
its so fun when you know how to do it
that video is the perfect video on it
saving this shit omg
I love being able to put my visions out there without having to rely on others that I don't know nor have time to meet
im broke sorry bro š
@trail bane We'll learn together here haha
lmao fr
Sounds like you, me and Wagz are all in the same boat
does this go over velocities? Thats the main part I need to figure out icl
yes
peak
velocities are easy
Oh man, I literally never play with velocitys, I'm almost always at 100% because I just don't know where I wouild lower it
ive changed my velocities, idk if they any good tho
i realised earlier ive mostly been moving my velocities UP instead of down but icba fixing it rn
if you want a natural sound:
- keep most hits at like 118-120
- first kick of every bar should be at 127
- most snare hits should be 120-127 (except fills and rolls)
- First tom hit in a fill should be 127, roll off velocity very slightly after the first hit of the fill
If you want a modern/punchy sound
- all kicks 127
- all snares 127 except fills and rolls
- all toms 127 except fills and rolls
Velocities are super super easy lol
oh damn so i SHOULD be moving my velociities up
Just try and think about a real drummer is what I do. If itās a 4 on the floor beat he probably could hit them all at 100% . But if heās doing fills, blast beats and fast shit he will never hit them 100%
YEs
SPOT ON
Four on the floor is always 127 no matter what LOL
unless you have a terrible drummer
my blast beats are just 100 on first kick and the rest like 70-80ish
or are imitating a terrible drummer
good lord
that is low
I mean if it's a blast that makes sense though
I usually keep snares in my blast beat at like 40-50 and the kicks at like 60 except 127 on the first kick
first hits should almost ALWAYS be 127
there's no reason why a drummer wouldn't be able to do that
realistically
i lowkey thought 100 was like 100% and 127 was like BOOSTING it harder than it should go
Blast beat kick I keep around 100, snare about 60-80 depending. Triggers do exist with kicks so not so unrealistic
^^
But I'm also new to this and dunno what I'm really doing
Do it
no
I been freestyling it, it would make any producer cry
nah
Humans can hit drums at 127 lol
also the difference between 100 and 127 is GIGANTIC
guess which ones which š¤£
It seems like alot at first but Once its there, it makes things SO much easier
100 is basically a medium hit
My brother in christ, label yo shit
yee and save it as a template so u dont have to remake busses every project
oh i know
I do it for the memes
Like I might have alot of unnecessary track but I just delete them if I don't use them,
Like having one set up for Cleans, then one set up for Acoustic guitars, even if I don't usethem, I'd rather NOT have to set them up ha
Okay, Watch this space then, I'll update my track and repost once I've fxed the drum velocities and panning
But also, I'm going to Track Vocals this weekend, hopefully I can get it to a point I can master it
Lets goo
I don't knwo how I'd publish it but I'll figure that out later lol
I don't even know how to master at this point
But from what I've seen, mixing is the harder part
ill look at it all tmrw
yeah, I hate it
especially since I have shitty speakers and no wired headphones
@trail bane i havenāt met you before lol
20$ in ears changed a lot for me. At least for roughing in
I have shitty $20 Kmart speakers and I use my $30 Bluetooth Over ear headphones for recording
distrokid
bro can't fathom my handsome mug
I know of, but haven't looked into memberhsips, how it works, pricing etc
I lurk
its like $20/year for the standard tier i think
could be wrong
but it's worth
it just works by you upload music and then it gets released lol
Where your face? In the vid? I haven't opened the vid lol
I record raw with my speakers, I have no headphones that work with my scarlet solo
$20 USD though?
my profile pic haha
Ah didn't even notice haha
Imma be so Real, USD to AUD is something dumb
wait does distrokid put it on spotify and apple?
Everywhere
Hmm I Need to come up with a band name tbh
i wont make a joke
I'm too old for this shit joke haha
im 17 and i also feel too old
real
I have a few
not very good
names
I thought about taking my old band name, but I feel like I should check with the other former members haha
if they aint active with it anymore then who cares
As we never went anywhere with it other then recording 3 live demos, unmixed in a community centre and threw them up on Sound cloud haha
lmao
best way to do it
the most music ive released
is being an a youtubers video
singing a fortnite montage rap song
when I was 12
https://m.soundcloud.com/user-648998334-18366543
This was that band haha
Im the vocalist and rhythm guitarist
Fortnite didnt exist when i was 12

unc
my wifi is being
so ass
ffs
As long as you're not calling me Uncool thats okay, I get called unc all the time haha
sick ngl
I've had people use it to mean both
I considered us Alternative Punk Rock, as we did a metal song, a hard rock song and punk song lol then we broke up due to scheduling issues and creative differences
fairs
I sound MUCH better now than I did 6 years ago when this was recorded
I was 24/25 when this was record, I'm 32 this year
I'd be in a post hardcore band or a deathcore band, no inbetween š
oh damn
post hardcore is my alltime fav genre
Never got into Post Hard, Deathcore was okay depending on the band, but MEtalcore is where its at
same probably
I'm a Nu Metal/Metalcore/pop punk kid
i love metalcore and pop punk
I will end you
i never got into nu metal cause it wasnt as melodic
HAHA
I do like some
I think Korn is absolutely godawful
and cringe
I can understand that at least,
I think ti depends on the band, I was mostly Linkin Park, Korn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Soad and Sevendust and Mudvayne
ima steal a lot of these albums
Linkin Park is my favourite band of all time and my biggest influence
Should've casually did a shameless self promo
I wanted to learn some linkin park riffs so I got the tabs up and was pissed off because they were all so easy and most of the verses was just literally no guitar ;sob
LOL
š
I still go back to "you call that a knife, this is a knife" by Capture
I love their Line "your time is up, look me in the eyes you SlT, your time is up bitch, you filthy fucking cnt" then breakdown, so good
my current "heavy rotation" playlist
Insomnia is the best track imo
Brad Delson intentionaly did easy riffs and his idea was to make it sound like a sample so Mike could Rap over them
chocolate jackolope and toute le mond is there accidentally
probably
I just have a playlist called Metalingus and its jsut anythign Metal lol
lmao
LOL
I mostly listen to that
I separate my playlists by genres
I have some great playlists
I go through phases, I have one of literally everything and its called the great big book of everything, then I have seperate them
I keep tryna make "everything" playlists
but i have so much music
I get bored and give up
i had over 30gb of music in my library but i accidentally deleted it all about 3 months ago and it forced me to trim it down
now i'm at like 17gb
one of my playlists
got rid of a lot of dead weight
i can imagine
I think I have 34k songs in it - Its 209 hours of music
i have a tenth of that many songs in my playlist
thats 217 hours
so either ur songs are all under a minute
or ur wrong
Maybe I misread a 0 and its 3400 lol
LOLL
ah
I have just over 7 days of music
idk spotify on my phone doesn't tell me
i use apple
just tells me the hours
my dad pays for it
š¤·āāļø
I wish I had a high pitched voice
so bad
I wanna be like fucking Kellin QUinn
Nah I'm playing lol, whatever you listen to your music on is cool
i dont have a high pitched voice but i trained myself to hit high notes
now i can sing em
I personally never got into SWS
I LOVE SWS RAGH
most of sws is shit
CAP
I'm a Tenor and typically sing in some kind of F range haha
their new songs are fucking goated
first two albums are where it's at
everything else sucks but the new singles are actually good
I like the James Dean song and some other newer song that I've forgotten the name of
Oh and the one he did for sonic the hedghog
in my chest voice I can hit a B3
use mixed voice
still learning
cant figure it out
still cant make the difference between head voice and falsetto
This video is about developing your blend between chest and falsetto and how that can be further developed and coordinated with specific exercises in order to gain more vocal options like mixed voice.
Here's the flageolet tension video I mentioned in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNFj2r9b1Is&t=709s
Here's my falsetto mix video wh...
they are the same thing
no they arent
I think I sing in a blend of Billie Joe from Green Day and Ben Burnley of Breaking Benjamin
Somewhere around there, I'm not a "high" singer
Your voice only has two registers:
M1 and M2
M1 is chest voice, thick true fold mass
M2 is head voice, aka falsetto, thin true fold mass
It's the same register
(technically yeah there's M0.5 which is fry register blah blah)
oh yeah the same register, but still different things
Only difference is chord closure
I did know this actually, I just am not trained, and taught myself to sing to Disney music and 90's boy bands, and screaming to things like Slipknot and stuff haha
but they are the same thing
based
im self taught as well
I can only fry scream
So I can pull off the more poppy music but can sound like I want to rip ya throat out haha
none of the methods for false chords have worked for me
Lucky, Idk what I do
I end up just mongolian throat singing
fair enough
fry screaming is the easiet
so probably that
My screams can be heard higher up in this chat, but idk was technique it is, I just do
i have no recordings of mine
I tried doing vocals on one of my demos
but I hated my voice
^
The one i just pinged is me
i'm the one singing "are you listening" and then i sing everything after the scream (the other vocalist is my friend michael)
What are we on about bro
idk if I was just doing the sounds I wanted wrong or thats just what it sounds like with my voice
bro thats fucking nuts
I do not have a high voice, i had to train it to sing high in mixed voice
how many years that take you?
I started singing seriously when i was like 14 i think
So wow its been 6 years š
doesnt feel like it's been that long
i unlocked mixed voice somewhere around year 2 or 3
ive always liked singing
this video is incredibly helpful
jesus fuck thats too long š
you can unlock it faster
it took me about 2 weeks to get a half decent fry scream
I just have bad propreoception
i sing while driving
I am always a half step off when I sing things
