I personally like to add just a lil more
I don't normally boost my amps except the lower gain ones, that's about it
For guitar I usually use my mini Soldano head. Has tight lows and enough gain and midrange for pretty much anything. Only thing it doesn't do are cleans
i find most amps just sound kinda bad on their own
That goes into an old Sound City 6x10 cab from 1973
the only amp i actually like without a boost is the rockerverb
Skill issue
It's hard to dial a bad distorted tone on a 5150 imo
Mesas have a lot of margin or error
5150 always gets a tornado drive in front, mesa usually a ts but sometimes just a clean boost
yeah thats the problem lmao
thats why its PEAK lol
As long as everything isn't at 0 or 10 it'd sound more than ok
5150s are easy to make sound good but as a result a lot of tones with them sound ridiculously similar
which doesnt help with everyone and their mum using them
when i find guitar tones i like it tends to always be a dual rec or marshall of some sort nowadays
lowkey see it less and less thanks to the Cortex...smh
HIHA have one of all three
quad cortex made the problem worse imo lmao
For my tighter stuff I always just use the mini Soldano. Cheap, sounds awesome. Recording wise I usually do direct with pedals or mic actual cab/qmp setups
every amp model on that thing sucks balls except for the 5150
IT DID
thats why i sold mine
even the pod xt and headrush have better marshall and mesa models
Tbh I love Ampeg VH-140C and 5150 tones. Those are some of my favs. I have an SS-140C I also use a fair bit
PODs are my main bread and butter for recording
trust me i love the cortex but its absolutely ruining Genuine amps like the 5150
I just bought an HD500X
I already have these
Tbh the POD Rectifier models are better than the actual amps
Lately I just use Rectifued and put a Peper's Dirty Tree in front. Instant chug
Peaveys rule
I just did bass for my prog death band with my old Basic 50 combo
the invoy is a shitty solid state amp though lmao
i literally only use it for black metal
Im tryna get a Peavey vyper ngl
Shouldn't be that much different than a Bandit
ihsahn used the 2x12 bandit which is the same circuit as an invoy
Our vocalist has a transtube Bandit and it's fucking awesome
for the last few emperor albums
They're not bad amps. Cheap as hell, the later ones are harder to dial in than the early ones
sounds good but its very much a one trick pony for distortion lmao
I have a reallllly early Bandit
First year of production
Fuzzy on its own but takes boosts well
Some of my amps
I don't mind using boosts if an amp isn't extravagant amounts of money. None of my amps were super expensive
the only amps i really want irl are a triple rec, a rockerverb and an ampeg
I want a first gen Sunn Model T but I'm not paying $5,000 for an amp that's basically a Bassman preamp with an ultralinear power amp
I'm more of a bassist than guitarist nowadays band wise. My Sunns have me set
i want a sunn model t reissue kinda but not massively
The reissue is more of a Soldano/5150ish gain channel with a Fender style clean channel
i think the reissues sound better than the originals tbh
Nothing like the originals. Way way way more gain
but also im a diehard cult of luna fan so
Johannes basically only uses the reissues nowadays
The originals only get slightly fuzzy when cranked. The reissue has gobs of gain
All of my Sunns are old
This thing can actually do a pretty good OG Model T impression thanks to the parametric EQ
Ibanez destroyer?
Yep! DT-50 from 1982 🙂
Ughhhh I love ittttt
Buddy are you cornering the pod market?
They're everywhere cheap haha, anyone can get one. Not rare at all
But why buy so many
Every single one has a different skill set. They all sound different, have different features, etc
Bleed by meshuggah is so unimaginably hard to play
How the fuck am I supposed to "DUDUDU DU" really fast
I'm determined to master it but it's like holy shit
I'm so glad I have a spark mini so I can just play this shit while laying in bed
Literally my setup rn
Fender / FMIC have just announced their lawsuit win in a court in Germany that will change everything about the guitar industry.
Effectively as of the 9th of March 2026 Fender has EU copyright protection on the Fender Stratocaster body shape. That means that guitars using that shape from brands like Schecter, ESP, Suhr, James Tyler, Jet and man...
TLDR: Fender won a case that basically makes Strat body copies illegal to sell in the EU.
RIPP to my European guitar brethren.
i just saw that yeah, im very curious on how much its going to change the industry
Depends if Fender goes full send or not. If its a straight up 1 for 1 copy with the pick guard and single coils or they'll target everything.
Either way if Fender goes after a huge company like ESP or Schecter then they'll have a fight on their hands.
Idk if anyone here plays tech death but if you do how do you go about writing riffs?
How do you write something that actually fits together like if I have a cool chorus how do I write rest to it that it fits ?
Any genre
mess around with different progressions of the same key of the chorus
or something
Howdy y'all - been watching Mr Nik for years now. In his recent videos his guitar has been sounding amazing - anyone know what he's playing through or has he posted his tone?
when i write tech riffs i try just try to make something very very hard to play while following some chord progression or scale
play around with time signatures
rhythms and techniques used to play riffs
Try to think what part would be cool after the chorus and go on with writing the song once u gain some momentum it’ll get easier to write all of the other parts
if you can’t think of something you can search for inspiration in other songs or just you can just take a break it can be very helpful
or just play the ending part of the chorus and start noodling. After some time you’ll probably figure something out
The most popular and copied body shape rip
P much.
My fellow EU guitarists got it rough.
I needa tidy this up but this is a Sylosis inspired riff. and man my arm wanted to die
I'm a big Buckethead enjoyer, here is me playing one of his solos
Sick 🤘
As much as I also enjoy Buckethead, I couldn't tell you which solo out of his million solo's that one is
Dude almost makes too much music, almost
This is the song Ghost Host. Yeah his musical output is insanity.. but at least there is always that hidden gem out there of his still waiting to be found
I realized I can just photoshop a guitar together. I want a custom guitar like this
iceman body with a multiscale fretboard and non multiscale bridge. also seven string.
there are other specs such as specific pickups and whatnot but those are the main details
Looks killer with the fanned frets. Very slanty
Mhm
hoe can i get rid of the noise
its too loud and even noise gate doesnt help much and if i increase the threshold too high then the sustain dies
turn the noise gate as far as it can go without impacting the tone
sweet spot
then drop the amp gain a tiny bit
if that doesn’t fix it, it’s probably just bad cables/patch cables or the speaker just being weird
i have to increase a threshold by a lot to remove the noise but that kills all the sustain
i hink its interface issue maybe
what interface do you have
jfc i hate my fret buzz on open strings
m audio duo
uhh its a bit better now actually idk how
but still there is noise and harshness i guess
hate this thing
In honor of me going to see currents in a couple weeks
how many people here practice standing?
Like half the time. Got a standing desk so I play standing quite a bit
Few mistakes (like the bend being flat because i got my fingers under the strings), but for learning in just an hour, I consider it pretty decent.
Had to record a better attempt, No unbaked solos here, no sir.

Who in here is good with VSTs and NAMs
I was starting to learn tonocracy, tried to use the cloud search and kept getting errors, uninstalled and reinstalled latest versions and now I can't sign in. Reddits saying it's dead, figured I'd ask for myself and see if anybody has other recommendations cuz I can't pay for amphub rn
Void guitar

Crap wrong person LMAO
Not sure about NAM Profiles but ik @cursive hemlock actually made a guitar amp vst so he might be able to help
Are you asking where he sent it
AFAIK he sent it in a few days back
Lemme find it so I can forward it here
Give this user $1,000,000
No problem
Has no cab sim at the moment
but ive integrated a nice fuzz pedal and overdrive pedal
lepou legion
bro

.
How about before you act like a higher up, you should learn how to mix a song properly
"Acting like a higher-up"?
what should i get if i want to play in tones like bad omens-hedonist bmth-kingslayer etc also i like mirar a lot any suggestions what amp sims could i aim for ?
Wrote this after weeks off due to being sick p happy
I couldn't post the video cuz it was too big, so I roll with my ig
Does 14-68 baritone strings have point in drop B I saw lee malia uses 70 even on drop b with 628 mm scale same as mine
not in my book
i'd go 11-56 at most for drop b
this is basically my dream setup
Does your dream setup include that lil tube guy?
Yes
I dont actually know if its possible to run a Pod X3 Pro through a Mesa cab
Throwback to 2016 sweeping on the Hagstrom XL-5, from my personal IG.
My current baby though right now, with the Boss Katana 50 MKII.
Appreciate you, good taste in guitars
I also have an 8, it's a Jackson JS32-8 the matte black one.
& yeah it puts in hella work, I had a Fender before this & a Vox before that
Why scary mask 😨
Sorry. I'm a fan of Slipknot
You'd need a power amp for the X3 pro too, in order to run it that way
I have several PODs. To run them into actual cabs and stuff, just keep the pedals/effects/amp sims, disable the cab sims, and send the output to a power amp, the power amp is what will power the guitar cab speakers
It is with a power amp. Trust. Just need to make sure the watts and ohms match up
You'd essentially use the X3 as a modeling preamp 🙂
In itself the X3 pro can't power a guitar cab without a power amp
You wouldn't want to exceed the wattage of the Mesa cab. Say it's rated 300 watts, you'd want to be at or below 300 watts at whatever the ohmage the cab is, let's just say 8. I will also say distortion raises RMS wattage a fair bit so you'd probably want a power amp that puts out half of what the cab itself can handle, it's a little excessive but far less likely to ever blow the speakers so it'll last a hell of a long time
Also wattage with speakers is only thermal handling, how much heat they can take.
More important is the xmax, mechanical limit. How much the speakers can push before they no longer function. You'll almost always kill a speaker mechancally before you ever do thermally
You could also run the X3 into an FRFR powered speaker and use the built in cab sims for that. I will say FRFRs always have bullshit wattage ratings so take them with a grain of salt. No FRFR is actually pushing 2,000 watts into a 1x10 or 1x12 speaker 😭, they use "peak" wattage which is next to meaningless. Peak is usually 2x program which is 2x RMS continuous, aka what the amp actually puts out. Companies even flub the RMS rating with crazy amounts of THD (total harmonic distortion)
Yeah i knlw
Thats the idea (what all you said)
I also want to use pedals with it and ill probably get a 10 band eq for before the cab
The X3 has more than enough modeling. Has pretty much everything, not sure why you'd need pedals with it. Has a built in parametric EQ, several drives, distortions, reverbs, delays, tons of modulation, a built in tuner, and more. They do handle pedals well but I have an X3 bean and it gives me options paralysis as is 😭
That, the HD500X, and the 2.0 are my favs. The X3 has more options than any of them though
Fair enough
I want a wah pedal, some noise pedals, and a pitch shifter
Ah, there's a floorboard you can buy with expression pedals so you can use the X3 wahs, it also has a pitch shifter built in. Some of the effects it has could be used for noise (Purple X and Octisynth especially)
It doesnt allow multiple stomp effects per patch. Also I dont think mine has a pitch shifter...?
It's the Bender. Also I forgot you're limited to one drive at a time on the X3 😭
The HD had a different layout and you could use however many effects you wanted (within reason)
Should I get an HD? I have heard the sound is different.
I do have Pod Farm 2 and I like being able to add multiple drives with that
The sound is different. Has way less models than the X3, but you can run a lot more in your chain than on the X3
The HD has a paywall for everything too, unlike the X3
Oh ew
You have some models stock and then have to pay $40 to unlock the rest 😭
The stock models are pretty decent though. I never bought the expansion shit
Ah. I like my specific tones on my X3. I think I would like just get pedals to use with that.
And Im also planning on getting an Axe FX II
Im also gonna try to figure out porting some of the plugins I use for processing and effects in my DAW onto a Raspberry Pi with a midi controller cuz I dont think anyone has really done that befpre
Does everything sound better on a Baritone?

Got them shits dialed in
Aristides goes hard
Trying out some new strings (10-52), & cleaned my baby. 🎸
at what tuning do you play with those?
Personally?: restringing to down in the C Standard area
Meant for?: D Standard (Drop C#)
I'm pretty sure I have the same strings actually
I play from drop D to A
Noice I played Drop C# for the past 4 or 5 years
But have been learning a lot of darker, more melodic heavier stuff, cuz- ya know- metal
TBDM is fun af to play I'm learning What a Horrible Night to Have Curse.
Birthday scores. $40 fretless bass and I finally picked up the DOD Stereo Flanger that I had on hold 🙂
That's metal af brother 🤘
tbdm is very guud
True
very weird question, i have a schecter sunset 7 extreme, and i need some more backplate screws, i lost two and also i stripped the wood, so im also looking for threaded inserts for them
where would i even begin looking for that
and what screws would i get?
didnt realize i get paid tn so i put an order for it lol
Stage setup is ready for my upcoming gigs next month
i would highly recommend leaving that aristides near open windows as the arium needs to vent out (not at all cuz im gonna steal it )
its the brain of my whole sound. its running a custom capture i made of an Omega Ampworks Granophyre
not the plugin, the actual amp
hell yeah i think u told me about that
Good picture now of the rig

indeed
We has a new Neural update and here are the cliffnotes.
-
Neural will be updating Darkglass Ultra to Ultimate with 4 new pedals, a new cab, and the bells and whistles. It will not be coming to QC as Doug no longer owns Darkglass.
-
Arc Petrucci, Rabea, Misha, Henson, and Mayer are coming to QC.
-
Tone King and Morgan to get X versions.
-
Fortin NTS and Morello will not recieve X versions.
-
Cali, Mesa Mark, Abasi, Asato, and Grano are under review for X update treatment. Note: partnership renewals may affect X update treatment.
Now this is tuff
One more addition to the picture
this is so fire
still kinda sad Aristides doesnt have lefty 070s, though it´d probably be too expensive and not in my preferred scale anyway but oh well. A man can dream

The ABR-OD is so goated
How much was the EQ pedal…
I’ve got an OD and a decimator I wanna expand my pedal board
Like $30
It’s the cheapest piece of guitar equipment I have
I need that pedal man
It’s just under $200 usd
That’s pretty cheap especially with August Burns Red on it
I don't really think 200$ is cheap for any pedal
Well I mean yeah but it’s definitely worth the money
It’s significantly better than a TS9
I mean given all the pedals in this are only $100 it's kind of hard to believe
If I get that one pitch shifter pedal, I'll have everything I need for live tones
what are they?
Yeah I don’t like it very much 🫤
Really? I think it's really good
Yeah.. idk if it’s just the way you dialed it but it sounds very thin and empty to me
It's very simple I'm just not using much gain from the amp sim, EQing it a little with the pedals EQ knobs, and it's got a tube screamer emulation in front of it
What do you think I should do to improve it
Well I have the EQ knobs on my BOSS Katana flat (not the ones that are on the pedal)
So that could be it
Maybe
Because when I first made this tone (knobs were not flat) it sounded great
So that was most likely it
Honestly, it’s probably the way you’re recording it. It’ll probably I bet it sounds better in your room than whatever you’re recording it.
I was just recording it from my phone up to the amp
Yeah
Which is not great
Had I used my computer and gotten it from there it would've sounded better
Record it straight through a daw
I would but my computer isn't working rn
Do you know what I realized
I have a NUX pedal
Same one?
Never seen this one
Nice
Also redid the tone I was showing you: boosted lows and highs
Sounding much better, the original sounds almost muffled in comparison
That’s sounds fucking sick
Started messing around with my Katana Tone Editor a bit finally.
Trying to get the NS set right for the T-Screamer.
Never gotten in depth like this before, its intense to say the least but I actually love it alot...
Any other guitarists around wanna help me a bit?
Why are we boosting mids is the first question I would ask
I haven't touched it past this yet lol but also didn't know much about the scoop until recently tbf.
Also don't quite got my head around all the FX/MODs yet.
Recommendations? 🤔🤝
I don't use the in-amp settings or Tone Studio, but:
For a metal tone you want to subtly scoop mids, not by much but some, and don't use too much gain. Instead you want a tube screamer in front of the amp, no drive, level all the way up. This is called "boosting" the amp, and it adds the distortion. Go from there as you need, just use your ears and adjust from there.
It was on 3-1 preset, i switched it right before coming to Discord though.
thoughts on the ibanez rgms8 for my first 8?
Personally I keep my bass at noon, mids no more than 9 oclock, treble at 5 o’clock and then I just experiment with Presence and resonance
I also use an EQ front of amp
Also I recommend the Lead not Brown (that’s just a personal preference

what are you guys thinking about this one
worth buying?
I literally just asked about this earlier this week
Lmao
But it seems worth it to me
Pickups aren’t bad and its got a nice 5pc neck and body wood isn’t bad either
I’ve played an rg8 and it was nice so these should be good as well
the pickups must be better than rg8 ones
and considering the multiscale this one looks more appealing
ive seen people complain about 12th neutral fret but tosin abasis 8 string guitars majority has the 12th neutral fret
wdym a good one? im talking about this specific guitar
Not every single one of the same model will be good
Thats just the inherit nature of cheaper instruments
oh
Ive seen it all too much on guitars even over 1000€
Just because the specs seem good doesnt actually mean you'll get a good guitar that plays well put of the box
If we were to get 10 of those in at my job about 8-9 would have to get sent back for qc
Neck, frets, electronics, top nut, finish problems. Its usually done on a guitar to guitar basis tho
Some have more of one and others might have a more even spread of problems
It doesnt help that our store's qc is insanely strict
i had to fix alot of issues with my current jackson dx10d which was second hand
the neck pickup was on the bridge and the bridge was on the neck, the floyd rose tuning stability was pure shit etc.
Cheap guitars with cheap parts, no surprise
and the capacitors were dead right after a month of usage
its still a good guitar imho, just needed extra work
capacitors? Why are there multiple caps in a guitar
i meant pots sorry
i took the capacitor myself also i thought the issue was about capacitors that caused my tone to sound horrible
How low is your action?
People usually have it the other way around, lower on the high e and higher on the low e
i can get on well with it but it really needs a light touch
Thats always the case with action that low
yeah but both sides are as low as it can get so thats why it is like that
i really enjoy the ultra low action on low strings
That makes fretwork even more of a necessity to get done well
the frets are worn
but it doesnt cause intonation problems or buzzing by themselves specifically
its due to the action of the guitar mostly
how low is your action on a 6 string typically?
Im aiming for about 1mm flat on everything
Which my guitar does without problems at all
whats your guitar
But its also in a whole different league compared to the humble dx10d
Aristides 060
It would be around middle ground compared to the stuff we have at work
dx10d is cheap you know
I know
but not bad for its competitors at the price range
Eh, at that price point i have to try a bunch of the same ones before i know which one i'd want. But id also replace half the parts
Nah, i know what to look for and save up for the guitar i want
My next big project, in ear monitor rack
do you fix the guitars or sell them
Both
you own the place?
thats great man
I have most of the stuff on a list for the in ear rack which is gonna be fun to put together ngl
Gear list cuz i need somewhere to put it anyway
i know about in ear monitors but whats an in ear monitor rack
oh these all
for live settings
Damn right
whats your fav genre to play

i used to be a fan long time ago
Our songs actually have decent production
but not for 4 years
Try Walpurgis - Saille
thats your band?
Yeeeep

riffs are also good
i enjoy prog metal the most
because the complexity desensitized me to other music genres
its more like i cant enjoy any other genre
Just wait untill you have to play seemingly simple riffs for 6-7 minutes at 240-260bpm
thats not easy for sure
Youll be asking for the techy riffs back after that
We have this one song where i have to do 240 trem picking on 6 string chords
It goes on for so fucking long untill i get a break my arm feels like it wants to fall off
tremolo picking using all 6 strings?
I usually play it at 8th note triplets but i can some days get close to 16th notes
may god bless your type 2 pronator and supinator muscles

also metacarpal and ulnar nerves
I can do it luckily without too many problems but man
Its something else
Black metal musicians have some incredible stamina
im currently stuck in a plateu for sweep picking

i cant say i cant do it nor can i say that i can
Want a song for that?
sure
because the neck pickups give you the forbidden %10 accuracy stealth boost
I take a brandon ellis approach
Aye
Thats how i always play these days
Also shows a bit of the right hand chops
how do u use nano cortex with tube amp
using power amp of the amp and the randall cab?
Im going into the frond of the amp because of noise issues in the fx loop
But im doing it on the clean channel
And the profile on the nano im using is a custom one i made of an Omega Ampworks Granophyre
i have that one
i have a kemper profiler player
i also have a focusrite
i use both kemper and plugins
Not mine lol
Yeah one probably from omega themselves
But this profile im using i captured of an actual amp personally. Had to do a bunch of stuff to get it to sound right
yeah the profiles dont sound good by themselves most of the time
it needs a bunch of tinkering
That's why i took the chance to capture one when we had the actual head in the store
good opportunity
the kemper profiler player cant profile cuz its the compact version of the kempers
I forgot i had this vid. Sweeps are fun
I know, a kemper in general wouldn't ever cross my mind with what i look for in a modeller
why
pretty good
Profiles dont respond to how i play the way i want them to
Especially to half guitar volume and to artificial down tuning
the transpoze sucks on kemper
the good profiles are rare to find and most of them need tinkering
Hence why i make them myself
i couldnt send with mp3
Homie that shit doesnt even have a format
lmao
kemper said they came up with profiling 2.0 but it sounds weird
i stick with older profiles they sound sharper and more defined
the ones so called liquid profiles are mostly undefined and woofy
that sounds about right yeah
Who says old guitars can't do Metal?

What are you playing on a 10 string guitar?
Mostly my own stuff, but you can play anything on it really
If not thall deathcore stuff then jazz and tapping, really good real estate for tapping
thats fuckin nuts
I want an Agile 10 so bad 😭
Coma Cluster Void is a really awesome 10 string band! :3
Yesss they are legends
I think they still make them, there's some pretty crazy headless models they got now
The craziest part of that band isn't even their fucking tuning (CF#GEFBCG#C#D), but the fact that Jeanne does all of it FINGERSTYLE 😭
I've always been partial to the 30"-27" Pendulum Pro models they did. Sadly I have no idea if they still make that specific version
Yeah she uses her fingers as a pick, also uses her thumb on the neck to fret the low c, crazy technique
She's incredible!
She briefly had a microtonal project too, but it's been taken down. Cool to see others that like her work!
Yeah! She did. She's super versatile :), she does everything from classical to electronic. Dissonant death metal to microtonal music. Her partner, Sylvia, is amazing too!
I think they had an industrial doom project too
I just found out they had another death metal band together called Infinite Nomad!
