does a fully modular psu with only the cables in use run better or no?
some cases (itx) you really don't want extra cables laying about due to the limited room
than a non modular with only the cables in use plugged in
nope
what benefit does cable management provide that isnt aesthetic
well for one, it makes it easier for tracing what's connected where
Cable management can prevent clogged airflow
this secondly
and thirdly not all cases can you just stuff away the cables you're not using
Imagine a water hose and then you twist it but are still running water. There are chances the water won't fully go through - just to add a comparison lol
Exactly
that works better as an analogy for when using extensions
To be honest, I understand why aesthetics don't 100% matter but they aren't useless. You paid money for good parts so I'd rather see the parts in good shape than not. Cable management just shows you care about what you bought
It could be an analogy for anything that's disorganized imo and requires energy but I agree with you as well
i would draw akin to a birds nest for those who don't have it cable managed
Before she asks how it helps with airflow: having disorganized cables allows dust to build up and ruin the airflow
because wires can knot up and jam together which can lead to a point of failure over time
also air happens to move better through nothingness than through cables
Real
aka turbulence
That's true as well. I just don't think it showcases why it's important to have cable management, it just shows it being disorganized. I think she is asking about the specific function so it's better to use an analogy that states "not having X can lead to consequence of Y"
Knowing dream, just saying "imagine a bird's nest" will not draw any connections in her mind 😭
well poorly cable managed = removing all the cables to just find that 1 you want
Yep, but she thinks it's purely aesthetic
cable managed but layered and easy to get at
is there airflow down there
there is
but doeant a shroud direct airflow
yes and no
so full mod isnt worth if there is a shroud
a solid shroud would, a mesh shroud doesn't
incorrect
well thats what i meant. i never even heard of a mesh shroud
A shroud can direct airflow, but having obstacles in front can block the airflow and make it less effective
the picture of a 4000d airflow's shroud is mesh
eh its just nicer to have less cables in the case youre not using
also for the airflow some people legit just leave their pcs like this lmao
😟
tbf that's a sub 2010 case where you need to cable manage it in a way like how oem's would originally do it
not an expert but i can tell you that it can be easilly cable managed and increase the airflow inside it
Back before cases had motherboard trays
Has dream cemented anything about power supplies into her brain
are those noctua fans
so something with bad cable management has bad airflow which means it has a higher all around temp which can hinder performance
those are
why are noctua fans crap brown?
oh nvm
its so that people know that its from noctua
because to noctua black = premium
also they love reminding people what taco tuesday/thursday looks like
yeah they look horrible tbh
its kinda cool
fun fact, best air cooler is only $34
shit pc 💩
noctua good at making air coolers
meanwhile thermalright doing it better for less
yeah
u can prob buy a pa120 and a t30
for cheaper
and perform better
sadly i dont think a t30 will fit in the middle
pa 120 + p12 max you mean
nope, as it's 30mm thick
p12 max in the middle, t30 at the front
actually
what thickness is the lian li p28
28mm
p12 max in the middle, p28 in the front
this is the way
wdym by type
IOH
the size
sfx, atx
you pretty much only care about those 2 since the rest is server stuff
modular would a kind of type
otherwise there's atx,sfx, flex-atx
and a couple others
you only need to focus on atx psu's
?
didnt know mini itx was a thing heard of all the others
that's just different models from different brands
i only knew of atx and sfx
i know of flex, atx and sfx tbh
most expensive of the 3 is flex atx
second most expensive is sfx for the better part
eh, eh
theyre sometimes on some decent sales
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Lt3NnQ/phanteks-revolt-sfx-750-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-sfx-power-supply-ph-p750gsf like almost the same price as an atx one
with a $25 mail rebate yeah but they're essentially going for atx/matx build
yep, just saying
wth is flex atx
server
wdym youve never heard of itx
I meant as a psu form factor
wtf is sfx
thats sff
same thing
how
it just is
that makes no sense
wdym its for psus
sfx also covers that when it's psu's
depends, it's usable for sff builds, replacements for oem psu's, and servers
sff covers a whole build type, does not cover psu/gpu fully
idek what you are saying
one stands for small form factor
and what does the other stand for
idk
so im not wrong
what?
so ure contradicting me
while not knowing the answer urself
while everything points to me being right
no. youre the one who doesnt know the answer
surely
i dont even need to know that what it stands for to know they arent the same thing
what could it possibly stand for
sff is just for the whole build and doesnt even matter or mean anything really cause itx is more specific.
and sff isnt for cases either
Hehe
i already know what sff is
is the x just silent kmao
Basically if you are doing an ITX build SFF or SFX is probably the best size of PSU to get
sfx is sff
that makes no sense to me
so for itx, you need an sfx (possibly an sfx-l) psu
itx cases r so versatile you cant be sure
sff isnt even a type of case
I’ve seen some people fit a full sized one in an itx case before lmao
yes it is
sff means small farm factor
find one case that says the type is sff
it can be applied to anything
there are small form factor cases lmao
its a very wide term
Sff isn't a standard it's literally just a term to describe what it means
ok so like
ure planning a van life
and dont know what efficiency means
nope
its literally in the name though
how much wall power is used vs how much power is delivered
youre not makimg any sense to me
80+ white, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, titanium?
oh so its just the efficiency of the psu?
how tf did that not cross my mind
lol
then wtf is 80 and all this bs
the company that gives the certification
you have to use 3rd party reviewers to find the efficiency
like it wouldnt be gbps
80% of the power from the wall is delivered
itd be something else
no cause the wattage is a separate thing on here too
no its not
it is
are you kidding me
volts x amps = watts
ik that my cpu and gpu have a certain wattage
idk shit about volts or amps or watts or wattage lmao
this
but im gonna be a master at the end of this
wattage means how much power it can supply
do u not have physics classes over there in the US
and as for silver, while it's not used, models that was silver efficiency got split into gold and bronze
oh so thats why i dont see any silver rated
not really
yeah, prime example is the cx-f line
goated
from corsair
for the record, that was a 2 second search
i wanted to learn but forgor
that should have been done by dream
i may of got a d in physics but i know this much
wtf amps and volts were
to work out wattage, it's volts X amps = watts
on a "technical" level
hence the " "
electricity is frankly the only reason i hated physics it's way too long and filled with garbage to know
should be common knowledge
yet for at least my school it was 60% of the course
nah i just never knew what the difference between volts and amps was
eh, ohms law, and knowing how to work out wattage, amperage and volts covers you for most of it
you also had shit like electromagnetic induction, resistence, magnetic fields, semiconductors, electroemotive force etc
too mcuh for my small brain
and too many formulas
the 2 most used equations when dealing with electrics
compared to like lenses its not fun
there you literally just remember 1/u + 1/v = 1/f and the chapters golden
i swear im not dumb i just
it isnt always intuitive
found an old pdf of my physics book this was everything. very not fond memories
til you're dealing with ohm's law
kinda sidetracked lmao
thankfully never have to look at a physics book again though
couldnt escape math tho /:
i cant believe we were asked what watts are
tbf, magnets/magnetic fields in electricity is only worth it if you're building a generator from scratch
but the cost of making one, it's cheaper to buy a turbine instead
Wish we had a school chat or smth
yeah thatd be nice. but it should really be a school forum
so that people can just ask the thing instead of it being just a silly tech chat thing.
itd be more valuable than reddit or quora combined easily
so amps and ampere are the same thing
how do you pronounce ampere
and is amp the letter I in equations
please keep this thread on topic. If off topic conversation continues this thread will be locked.
thank you
1984
waste of money, only heavy overclockers will need that psu
990 pros have reduced power consumption too
or better power usage or somethin
r u insane
its like 2w difference
still a difference
uh
Not something to care at all about
u realize it would be a better of a difference to buy a higher tier psu
ye
Undervolt your cpu and gpu before you buy “efficient” ssds
ofc there are
