And nice size too
Its alright for comparisons but most modern models have ram variations to account for also can use this for like gaming bench comparisons (mind you actual results vary due to case, room temp etc) https://benchmarks.ul.com/3dmark-android
why does top right have a lock?
cool the say the s11 is as good as ipad Pro, ordering now, mnedia consumption and as a 2nd screen fro my windows and mac laptops
It has a removable back that locks in
Galaxy xcover 2
lmk if you get the tab to work with the mac
full screen
i’ve been trying on my s10+ but it only allows for 16:9 over airplay
sup
duet and Deskreen
the other option is teh ipad pro 13, which is 4:3 so same video size as teh Tab s11, and $555 vs $1,318. yeah ipad woudl be "easier" but like .... $700+ more :/
Is kingston renegade g5 a good drive or should i go with a samsung drive?
is that the duet app? or deskcreen?
neither, just go for a decent gen 4 drive like a sn580 or sn5000
Its basically the same price as those two only 20 more
kingston gen5 is 200
Sn5000 150
(and i actually was wrong its not 20 more i was looking at sn850 not sn580)
there is also a 990 evo plus 4tb at 267 that also seems pretty good
Slovakia
so you're looking for 4tb nvme drives?
2tb (i just mentioned that 4tb samsung that it was a pretty good price at least compared to the kingston drive, only 67 more for 2x capacity)
Will I get a cheaper pc with voxtek
I did it
I managed to get a GPU for its ~MSRP price after waiting for so long (GTX 1080 gang)
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Dgqrxr/
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/266NnQ/
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Q7kH99/
i would look for one of these
c910 ehhhhhhhh
anyone know if the EKWB EK-Nucleus AIO 240 is any good?
Hmm yea okay i will see what i can get but also 200 for that kingston gen5 is not that bad right?
if you want “gen 5” get the p510
will be fine running 2x16gb ram at 2133MT/s shown on system settings and adding a trident skillz 3600 16gb
that my brother took out from his pc
same gen and all
you'd want all the ram to be running at the same speed, ad 2133 is absolutely horrible for zen3's performance
2133 is absolutely horrible for zen3's performance
meaning?
should i change something?
the ram should be running at 3200 minimum
is ddr4 2133 CL80 the new meta
CORSAIR Vengeance RGB Pro SL 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600MT/s CL18 Black Desktop Memory Kit (CMH32GX4M2D3600C18)
this is what im running in my rig
is bros xmp even on
nope
no
use the 2 corsair sticks and turn on xmp
downside is it's corsair ram
fair
i thought it bans from warranty and is unstable no?
"bans from warranty" huh
corsair ram is bad?
no, and it can be when it comes to corsair ram
meant as in like doesnt it [cant rmbr the word] from warranty
xmp is specifically designed to be used
seen people have issues with corsair vengeance line for stability
can i run 3x16gb ram two corsair and G.SKILL Trident Z RGB Series?
no
Xmp is fine its if you set custom clocks and speeds and then claim it doesnt work where warranty would have to be like "user error"
Lmao
arlight will do
also question, can 64gb ram be unstable cuz my brothers pc kept restarting by itself when left without using for a while
any idea what it kept happening? faulty psu?
my 64gb ram knows better than to be unstable
If XMP voided the warranty, you'd have to sue every ram manufacturer for false advertising because it's required for meeting the speed on the box if it's advertised as anything above the default
Couldn't say could be alot of things but making a #1027757333117415424 with all the details and things tried and when it occurs, what the error is etc somone myte come along 🍀
thank you
i have a ls520se rn and plan on upgrading to a 7800x3d i only have the am4 bracket does that work with am5 or do i need to try and buy a replacement bracket
i’m trying to mount a gpu vertically but do i need to attach the riser cable to the case? i’d if that makes sense
Depends entirely on the size of your desk, whether or not you want the built-in USB ports, if you would benefit from the flat wall plug, and how many annoying power brick's you need to plug in.
apparently the cpu in my server is going for $12 a pop
it cant possibly be that slow
are they UL 1449 rated?
Gonna be attempting to upgrade my system this weekend from intel i3 7100 to r5 5600x.
Any tips to look out for? It’s going to be my first time really messing with my old pc. Most I’ve done was add new ram and add a gtx 1060 this year.
Dust box currently look like this 🫣
what rgb software do you guys use to control all your stuff?
I have lianli fans if that matters...
Did you need a tissue?
oh GOD that is bad
tech tip: if you're not sure about something, there's this wonderful thing called reading the manual
jokes aside (not really joking tho) make sure you swap the power supply cables for the new ones. A lot of people think they can reuse the old ones, but the pins are NOT standard on the PSU side
I think my bowel movements have better per core scoring
Lmao
What cpu
hey i have a poweredge R610 sitting right next to me!
Looks great just take it slow. Each part should have a YouTube demo if needed and yuss as recommended above be sure to use only the new cables woth the new psu, also you'll have to take it all out. Then put the motherboard in first then you can decide the rest
Signal rgb 4 lifeee
very much a just okay server. i have a few running various VMs for webhosting and an MC server lol
dual Intel Xeon E5-2690 v3
All 3 of my hairballs are laying on my feet
it's so fucking WARM
for $250, 5tb after raid 60, and 64 gigs of ram and an r730xd chassis though i cant complain
It's long below "ok" at this point, it was an "ok" budget server in 2017
Can you find me an R940/XA for that price?

not my expertise
like i have no clue what you're talking about
it's a piece of shit, it's loud, and it's hot, but damn it works
Thanks for the heads up. I think I’ve read somewhere before what people end up with issues or even fire hazard when trying to use the old cables. Luckily I don’t think I can f that up since I can’t remove my cables.
and i mean $250 for all of this i cant really complain
Dell R940, you have an R730XD
hey working hardware is working hardware. more than good enough for websites and vms lol
even nowadays i would pay $250 for the barenaked hardware platform
Oh and maybe put in the cpu 8 pins up top before installing the cooler ❤️
i love enterprise hardware
I can’t find anything better than $700 for a barebones R940
It’s quad socket which is why I want and it’s the newer xeons
Also ddr4
this is ddr4 too
theres some pretty solid supermicro storage servers out there for cheaper
Yah but not my kinda cheap I’m the type of person to watch eBay for months for a super cheap listing
ah quad socket also
quad socket lmao
isnt dual socket already a security risk on top of being incredibly wasteful
I know hyper threading is
2010 called, they want their server back
I think you can get 28 cores and 4.5GHz boost on the R940, times 4
224 threads, yum
the 940 is 2020?! my 610 is 2012!
tell them I said no, it's my server now
my r730xd is 2013 iirc
It’s a 2020? They’re pretty cheap for only 5 years
2012? Huh? Which CPU does it have then?
Oh it’s 2017
Thats still very modern for a homelab
Can’t wait to set it up with 300TB of storage and never use it
Based on the spec sheets the r610 is using CPUs from 2010
interesting, i just pulled up a spec sheet and checked the copyright date lol
no clue tbh
Google said 2017
¯_(ツ)_/¯
how do you not know what cpu your server has??
i forgot
bad nerd
and its just sitting next to my desk unused lol
Send it over
electricity too expensive and 1u server is evil
Chuck it on the ewaste pile
Bro there was someone here offering to donate servers and no one took it cuz shipping
Where it belongs
It would be coming from Australia
nah it will be going in my Unis LUG server rack at some point to be a mirror or something maybe
haven't quite decided yet
I wanted a rack of blades at one point
But I decided it’s not as cool as quad socket
I want rack of lamb
Slaughter him for the curry cause
It is 2010, R620 was 2012
it was manufactured in 2012 however
that it just what i was going off when i said the year 😭
Just finished porting Terraria to my CASIO fx-9750 G iii
i somewhat doubt that
I used something called "Terrario" made by the people over at planet-casio.com
Programmes Casio, Jeux, Cours pour Calculatrices Casio. Planète Casio, un site entièrement dédié aux calculatrices Casio et à la programmation en Basic, C/C++ et LuaFX
Fn on performance mode has dotted textures and what looks like moving textures, why?
I also am getting 240+ fps consistently but game doesn’t feel smooth
i see, you downloaded it from there? not porting it yourself?
Yeah, sorry for the wording. Couldn't think of another way to word it
sorry for being pedantic, doesnt quite matter really
I didn't think you were being pedantic for the record, don't worry.
Has anybody here used a creality 3d scanner?
I'm thinking about getting one but I don't know anybody that has one and I know creality is really hit or miss
Specifically looking at the ferret or ferret se
If you think it's hit or miss, I would go with the SE. Keep in mind this is from someone who knows NOTHING about any of this.
The only reason I kind of want the regular ferret is so I can use it without a laptop
I don't need crazy high fidelity scans but I've tried photogrammetry and it's just far too inconsistent
I mean, being standalone IS a cool feature
If it's important to you, go for it
How do I post help in this
what
I wanted a console just so I can play gta 6 but I might get a steam machine even though I can't
I have a console worth of games in my steam library alone
Any pcie slot power gpus that are better than the 3050 6gb under 100 usd used reccs?
i think that is the most recent card
I think I need to clean my pc💀
I will clean it later. It's almost 9 pm for me and I just want to put it back together and play games
Curious why the 5070 has 12 gigs of vram but the 5060ti has 16
no u got another 8 years on it
Because nvidia
It's like the 3060 vs 3060ti
My pc would probably look like my parents pc caked with dust. Image is from 2023
3060 had more vram despite the 3060ti being the more capable card
is there a place to like see good current tech deals on amazon with this black friday deal?
Yes, Amazon's website, when the deals start. Everything else is just speculation.
i feel you know what im talking about
I actually do not. I cannot read minds. Say what you mean, and mean what you say. ❤️
i dislike you.
(all prices in cad) looking at getting a new pc. I game and stream. My monitors are all 1080p @165 My options are 7700 + 5060ti (1599) 7700 + 9060xt (1399) 14700f + 5060ti (1799) 14700f + 5070 (1999) which pc should i get (9060xt is 16 gig version and 5060ti are all 8 gig versions)(all prices in cad) looking at getting a new pc. bro linus's be courteous advice is so clutch im getting a 1080ti for 7k rupees which is like 65 usd
I only got to put the gpu in now. I moved the wifi card from the top to the bottom but i had to lightly force the wifi card to go into place. Hope nothing goes wrong when I power it up
explosion
I'm about to take a video of me powering it on. You just got to wait and see
count me in for team explosion
good thing its level
Sound card sag
@thin bloom dumb question did you attach the antenna
its kinda strange you have a cable that needs to plug into ur wifi adapter
I think that pcie connector is fucked up. I remember pluging the gpu in that and the fans didn't work. The stupid thing I did in the past was I put the wifi card into that slot while pc was powered off and it sparked and turned the pc on

I think I blew a capacitor on the board or something and that's why it don't work
The wifi card perfectly fits but I killed power to the slot and now I have to find why it don't got power
Now I just have to turn the pc off and pull the gpu and see if I can find the problem. Hopefully it's not a bad chip because idk if I can replace it since this board is from 2015
I hope it's a capacitor because I can pull off one from a dead board I have
I'm going to make a post in #1027757333117415424 to have help fixing the pcie slot

okay ngl this isnt that bad
bot
bro fuck all of these teammates
The build bug will getcha
anyone used this?
$410 here
Will steam frame have hand tracking
I just buy the Chinese knock offs
For like 100 bucks
Buy once, cry once
You got me fucked if you think I playing 600 bucks for a vacuum
And how many of the knockoffs have you bought for $100 so far?
One and it's still going strong
Then word your shit better because what you said implies you've had to buy many
It's just a fact Dyson shit is Overpriced
I've watched reviews comparing models and the difference is marginal
@proper gull i think im getting old
I got fucking excited about really good fuel economy

(Average over 112km)
Why is that a thing that makes you feel old
This car is not a hybrid
2014 honda accord with a k24 and cvt
It makes like 183hp
I can get under 7 in my 2zz corolla but damn, a bigger engine getting less
that CVT is doing some heavy lifting
sad times, bricked my 9070xt. So i orderd a msi trio 5070ti
nope, some how the X axis gantry was off by 2mm on either side forcing it one side of it to be higher than the other and causing it to clog up, and i knew i measured it correctly to ensure that wouldn't happen the first time
changed my paste and pads. Messed up the screws somehow and now the hotspot is over 100 playing High demaning gpu games. Iv opened it many times. Idk what happend, but il contact asrock to see if they can send me a new presure plate for the cooler to the gpu dye

so minecraft, roblox, and similar games has to do

or play on my switch
god bless
just buy it, but check out the newer models, sometimes the price diff is pretty small
i think you can get it repaired at a shop
but i hope the best for u and ur financial loss
maybe maybe. That whould be nice tbh. But the sticker thats losses the warenty is gone, but lets see when i call asrock if they can send a new plate. Probobly not
i think that you can get parts for gpus from chinese manafacturers but im not so sure
well iv tried, if you like, you can try to find that frame that puts pressure on the cooler to the gpu dye on a 9070xt steel legend @random gyro
sure, im a wizard at finding shit from shenxhen XD
ill pm u if i find one\
just dm me if you find anything, i will be inn your debt xD
what variant of the 9070xt is that again?
the white steel legend from asrock
hm okay
god damn the prices for a nice 16:10 monitor
theyre cheap, but shipping isnt quite so
i think if i find a good deal from australia or china i might have a chance (?)
this will be intresting to test https://x.com/nvidiacc/status/1991313650058219829?s=20

Airflow ok?
intake?
Is it worth it to buy 2 more AW2725DF to match my main monitor or just keep the cheap monitors on the side
perfect
would be at the bottom there but half of it is coverd by psu
oh alright
i'd keep it as it is but if you got extra money to buy 2 monitors then go ahead
do we think this port is repairable
it's meant to just be power delivery
but it has data lines connected for some reason
like replace the port?
yeah
yeah but typically for repairs like that you'd want a hot air station
mhh don't have that available to me
what country are you from?
you could use a normal soldering iron to replace the component but you'd risk putting too much heat on the board and damaging it
soldering iron would probably just solder off the nearby components too
Don't have
bruh
through hole components like that are just a pain in the ass to do with a normal soldering iron, i would just get a hot air station
Nothing to change?
Cpu idles 40, heats to 85
I think that's stock cooler maybe
nope, that's perfect for the cpu
you can add an extra fan at the bottom if you want an intake added in
5600G
how plausible would taking it to one of those random ass phone repair stands and asking for a replacement
85 max is perfect
Hmm, it's actually my office pc
would they even have the hardware
if they got usb C sockets, and a hot air station for the repairs, very plausible
thats fine
might try asking the engineering teacher at my school first, if not I'll try that
no harm in adding 1 more fan, but temp wise, perfect on the cpu
What would take more time downloading a game to ssd directly or copying from hdd to ssd
1000 mbit internet
depends on the SSD and HDD
HDD will be faster than the SSD if you want the same game on the SSD (copying)
my hdd can do like 115 mb/s
then the HDD is unlikely to be the issue
for copyijg
it'll be faster than your internet
1000mbit is like 60mbyte/s
okay thanks
125MB/s
divide it by 8
that would put it on par with internet, local would still probably be faster since there's no unzipping overhead
dude, if you're using steam, it'll be quicker to just transfer between the drives
yes steam how
back it up then move it?
oh damn didnt know about this
nope, just straight up move the game over to another drive, it's a built in option on steam
guten morgen
i have found out you can put skins on apps
my setup will be complete and it will look very sugoi amazing desu
i was gonna say i found a case for my laptop but i remembered i already shared it
so funny
Can someone recommend a good and cheap mini-led ips monitor? (1440p at least 144hz)
So what would be a good gpu setup for photo editting, image rendering an slight 3d modeling an slight gaming. Good as is in price wise i was thinking 2-4 vega 64 fe 16gb hbm2
how do i stop my gpu from short circuiting every time i boot up?
Check power cables would be the first thing see if theres any unplugged parts are broken connectors. Check to see if that the gpu itself is ok may need to reply thermal paste or just dust it. Then see if the power supply is able to supply all power needed to the whole pc an the pc isnt crashing from that
no fixing it yourself
go go! tech repair shop!
the dgpu on a laptop is built into the laptops mainboard, it's essentially a complete replacement of the mainboard
I would take your lap top appart WATCH A TARE DOWN FIRST to see how normally my experience with a laptop gpu is that it needs new thermal paste put on an dusted out
but that's boring and expensive
@scenic juniper
i tore it down 3 times already and there's still thermal paste
old though very old but i don't think that would fix the problem
no i just need it to boot up on the igpu which it did for 5 months
go to a tech repair shop
i want it to last 1 singular day extra so i can back up the ssd
you're not fixing it yourself, it's literally a replacement
is it true the base steam machine might cost like $800
the ssd is removable and can be put in another laptop/desktop
this
wouldn't it just format the drive because the drivers are different
unless you know bga work
ie msi drivers and acer drivers
whoooo careees
which means you have the skills and a decent hotair station, which i really doubt he has
i found a few pcs at school, wish i could take one home
iirc all that's known is they said it would be cheaper than current gen consoles
how did it work for 5 months and why did it stop working today? everyone i boot it up i press the heat sink and i can feel it going to unholy temps then either shuts down or boots normally for 20 seconds then freezes
so itll be around maybe $500?
no clue
oh... ohhhhg..... that monitor is so good and crisp
ps5 pro is 800 here
if its swappable ssd then ill for sure get the base model and then just buy a 4tb nvme ssd
i love old computers
either that or i get an external ssd
this one has a 2.8ghz pentium 4, 768mb ddr ram, 80gb ide hdd
integrated intel extreme 2 graphics
oh nice, will work for mc bedrock server haha
and it has windows xp pro installed atm
this is what you'd use for one of a few retro builds
no
download linux mint onto it, bring life
fuck you
chrome os flex
LMAO
still linux so fuck you
windows xp is lively
mac os x snow leopard
those are the people who run linux
so im a nerd for having a steam deck huhhh?
i mean yeah but we're all nerds here in a way or another
but my phone is android... do i look like that
what regular person would like tech so much as to join a tech youtuber's server
um actually windows 11 is already cloud based 🤓
nah, it might be based off the linux kernel but it's so drastically different and way more mainstream than any pc linux distro
same with the quest 3
btw y'all... i'm saving money to get a macbook... sorry
keep forgetting the quest 3 is android lmao
its ok.... but why a macbook
understandable
and i have an iphone and ipad anyways... my macs are all old intel so i think it's time for an upgrade
like my newest mac is from 2014 yk
hackintosh is mostly dead so i'll just keep my hackintoshes on sequoia for now
I haven't used a Mac in ages. My experience was mostly on G3 and G4 era ones
i never used a mac outside apple stores 💔 so i wont really understand
the operating system does look and feel nice though right?
yes
i like the little animations and the general snappy feel
i'm going for a 16gb m3 macbook air 15"
i love how it looks, but im just used to windows, and macbooks are extremely expensive where im at
Those were running mostly Mac OS 8-9

yeah... same here, i'm in europe and they're super expensive
that's why i only buy second hand or refurb
even second hand or refurbished they're the exact same price of a brand new mid-high tier gaming laptop
or if someone else buys it for me 😭
wait fr ? that's a banger holy shit
yeah but you don't get them for gaming
i mean you can game on them and the performance can be good but eh
if it is im buying it instantly 😭
I remember when Mac OS used to have a small but decent selection of games like Marathon

nowadays you can use windows translation and emulation layers or make an arm windows vm
i dont really need the gabecube but i love the idea too much
or just emulate x86 64 windows
since when are you a cat
my idea of gaming is the sims, minecraft and project zomboid...

i know minecraft works at least
project zomboid is like the sims if they had zombies
and if the devs fucking hated the playerbase
Could a humming sound in a pc come from the hard drives?
i can barely survive a day in zomboid...
when do yall think the preorders for the gabecube and the steam frame will come out 🤔
fans as well
I have stopped all besides one which I cant access but didnt change anything
the gabecube
lmao
so yes harddrive
I think 2026 though
so its time to see where the harddrives are mounted and press down slightly on them to test or can I test it any other way?
it comes out early 2026 they said if i remember well
it makes perfect sense to call it that
so i think they'll maybe open the preorders for christmas ?
would be smart i think
ikr ?
if they do release the preorder around that time ill prolly ask for financial help to buy the steam frame if its in the 500-600 euro budget otherwise ill just get a steam controller or a gabecube if it's cheap
should I go for a MSI Katana or a Lenovo Legion 5?
which one has a better build quality?
Can't we just have a stable market for ONCE 🥀
https://x.com/tomshardware/status/1991131360451514419?t=OM12Pn6N5LXvG9z5iRSv9A&s=19
NVIDIA's demand for LPDDR5X could double smartphone and server memory prices in 2026 — 'seismic shift' means even smartphone-class memory isn't safe from AI-induced crunch https://t.co/6s3YGdWruJ
anyone done/know a review on the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 WINDFORCE OC SFF? I find barely any mention of it anywhere.
Which is beter the Xiaomi G pro 27i or the AOC Q27G4XM? I chose those two because theyre mini-led qled ips and theyre basically the chapest.
What are you specifically looking for? It works, doesnt have bad temps
arguably the ventus is the shittiest
i think I have a weird overlay where i cant open drop down stuff or select options in some apps whenever I have chrome open, can someone help?
I don't know what to ask on google though I tried similar searches and got nothing useful
Guys I need help #1439665838083805236 for a bit of context. What do I do
Will steam frame be affordable
Depends what you consider "affordable"
Similar to quest 3 pricing
definitely not
It has controllers and controllers have tracking?
Generally your hands are on the controllers
only the apple vision pro does that well
and it doesn’t actually make good use of it
Quest 3 has controller free tracking
I means it's good enough for like browsing when watching vr YouTube ect
I don't see the point of that honestly
no, it's just the cheapest 5080 i was able to find, it was on black friday sale
I don't need even more gesture control junk
Wasn't expecting to play beat saber
to be fair, beat saber is like the ultimate test for tracking
Wdym geasure control junk I don't see issue in having more options
i can feel when my controller is off by a couple mm
granted i play expert+ levels
More options means more hardware and software which means more money and if many don't want that.. Its a waste
my excitement for the steam frame is the wireless pc streaming
no more head cable!
Still if this thing is priced same as index I dont think it will be worth
I think it absolutely will be
if you price it the same as the index minus the base stations, it’d be a great price
I mean it has worse controllers than index worse audio ect
I just posted in #virtual-reality, but considering we're talking about vr stuffs here too;
what are our thoughts on an oculus rift s, for something to just plug in and use, without a lot of fussing about..?
it has a computer, battery, and inside out tracking
yeah.
It actually looks really promising
a lot of wireless implementations thus far have been.. uhh. hmm.
"ah this is is supposed to be 5k, why does it look like its 720p 😔"
So I'm really curious to see how it goes
The audio def gunna be worse without the integrated headphones
Just having some speakers gunna sound worse
Different not worse
They shifted some focus of the product so its optimized for a different usage
i'm also curious how the latency will be
i'm rather sensitive to it
Yup!!!
Its not worse for its different to use
Mate you acting like they gunna be putting some expensive ass speakers in there
it also costed like 11990kr (1176 usd), and it being 25% import it would be 882 dollars pre-import
Most vr headset speakers are shit
why are you assuming they aren't going to have a quality audio solution?
me when I move my head and it takes 2-3 business days for it to update lmao
even just 10-20ms is nauseating
Cuz I've yet to see good speakers on a ve headset
the headphones on the valve index are essentially speakers
It's much easier to make headphones sound good at low costs
Unless they driving prices up even more
For high end speakers
And the controllers just look like quest controllers
I'll rock my own audio solution
okay?
there's only so many comfortable shapes for vr controllers
Index controllers were better
But I'm the crazy person using some rcf art 935 as speakers in my house, and some custom iems for portable use
Did you know that index controllers still function?
And you can mix n match devices? That's part of what is so awesome on PC
It's a downgrade in controllers
so don't buy the controllers?
I mean your still paying for the controllers when you buy the device since they come included most likely
And they should get it
you'll almost certainly be able to buy just the headset, like with the index
That's a bold assumption given that wasn't the case with the last VR setup valve released
I don't ever remember seeing an index bundle without the controllers
you can buy any single part of the index on it's own
I mean ppl assumed steam machinewas gunna be close to console prices and they would sell at loss but that doesn't seem case
Based on what I've heard
You should never assume
When it came out, you could simply buy JUST the index. Nothing else? I duno about that one frank
i bought just the headset when i got the index, as i already had the controllers
yes, you could buy just the headset, or you could buy just the controllers, or just the base stations, or just the headset and controllers, or everything
Still think it will be too expensive for not much of an upgrade
I could be wrong, but I thought when it released, it had two main bundles. With the little stations to place in your room, and without them. Could have sworn those were the only few.
a transition from a tethered headset to a completely stand alone headset with inside out tracking isn't enough for you?
No
It'll basically be the quest 3 on steroids
I'm not walking around my house using vr
You certainly could. Each component was sold and then there was a bundle. I hopped on the controllers waitlist immediately
okay?
So wireless don't matter really
VS Code disappeared from start menu and nothing shows up when I search for "visual" "vs" "code" "visual studio" etc. send help
then you're not the target audience
Actually kinda insane they did that. I honestly didn't know.
Wired connection will always be more stable
Cool, this product was optimized for a different use so doesn't appeal to you
Wireless has issues
as previously stated, you're not the target audience then
as does wired
Unless your moving from room to room not really
The tether is "okay" but don't lieke it
I love my quest 3 being able to literally walk downstairs without having to take it off. Then resuming when I get back into my pc room. Shit, I've played games laying down in bed. I remember play star trek just chillin.
you know how many times i've stepped on the tether and yanked on my skull?
Have you don't much dancing and spinning?
Playing phasmaphobia vr was enough of a reason to not be tethered for me lol
I attack vr tether to ceiling
I happen to be fairly experienced with VR
Attach
ceiling fan
So you're saying you can do a backflip and not get tangled?
I don't have those
I honestly dont see much of a clarity difference between being tethered and non with quest 3.
Im not doing backflips
yet again, just because a device isn't an improvement for your situation, doesn't mean it isn't a massive improvement for many
I'm not trying to break my neck
Again, cool, this product is not optimized for YOU. It is optimized for other people and those other people matter too
What, you not pulling a Fillian and jumping off chairs?
Disassemble it and send a photo of the paste spread, maybe it didn’t spread out fully
I doubt 90% of ppl are doing back flips
Some of us are
Plenty of people don't want a tether
What's a fillan
Being able to just walk around wherever you want and use your headset is a massive benefit for many
I prefer wireless for vr
it gives you far more flexibility for where you can use your headset
Some of us are in places where we can't realistically use base stations or ceiling mounted tethers or a plethora of things
Also, one less thing to buy and worry about connecting
don't have the cable or the roof attachment to hang up a wire
two less things
I mean you still have to stay in the zone that is mapped
Technically yeah
Kinda?
Still gives you the flexibility to be able to move to another area and play there instead
instead of being locked into wherever you happened to have mounted your base stations
I got rid of my index whenever I moved as my new space didn't support it really
This might actually be an option that gets me back in
Sucks. It is such a good vr
Love my index
By got rid of I mean I gave it to a friend
i've tried the og vive, vive pro 2, index, and quest 2, and the index is my preferred headset
I remember modding monster hunter world and playing that in vr on my index
Lol
colored pass through is such a gimmick to me
Again... You are welcome to believe that, but just like you're not finding value in some things that's one others don't find value in
I mean being able to like do other tasks other than just gaming
just take off your headset to get colors
Having a quest 3 with colored pass through, its ... meh, its clear enough I could take it or leave it
they won't last bro
too blurry anyways, just lift the headset up if you do something
just admit the headset isn't for you, damocles, and move on
I can't believe this comment
It's lasted 3 years now
my one experience with VR was like a week or 2 after a rly bad concussion safe to say i never tried it again
Passthrough is mostly a quick check on what's going on, it's VR not AR
do not use VR with a concussion
Vr still too niche not enough big games come out
Yeah, I'd you want AR get the one apple one, and spend 5k on it
Bruh
i don't see how that's a complaint about the frame
Cool so save your money and play something else?
i got cleared to look at screens again as soon as i looked into the headset i got sick and got dizzy 😭 this was like 2021
there is some adjustment to be had
Where are the games on half life Alxy quality
I'll be over here playing some VR games whenever I get a free moment to do so
That game sucks compared to vrc for me
half life alyx is like solidly okay
Like it's been years and that's still the best experience I've had on vr
Solo game? I don't have time for that
There are a ton of them, you clearly are just making shit up.
it doesn't really use the VR medium all that well
it feels like a desktop game ported to VR
If it doesn't have multiplayer it's not worth booting up
not a huge fan of MP VR
Clearly you dont know a quality vr game until you play VR Paradise, a vr stripper game
Would play single player games over shit like vrc

Vrc is cancer
Hello
I was thinking to make something like a home server. I will probably use it as like a cloud storage, pi hole and maybe streaming. I dont really know much about making home servers and stuff but i found few pc’s. What do you think? Do you have any recommendations? They will run 24/7.

holy fucking wall
VR mp is pretty niche
I just dont think vr is for you my guy
also #1106613567966429224
Payday 2 VR was a good deal of fun though
I've played VR I just don't like vr mp
Since could play with non VR folks too
Gate keeping vr lmao
"first glasses free 3d handheld" as if the 3ds didnt exist since 2011
i'm not a huge fan of MP in general to be fair
Its fine to say vr isnt for you. But clearly its getting more and more popular. They have a slew of AAA games. Freedom of movement. Work and professional support. Exercise games. Rpgs, cozy games.
I need mp. Games are purely for socializing for me
i know the os is based off of android but i cant prove it
I looooooved metal gear solid, the one card game on my 3ds
I wish steam machine was windows out of the box
get out
that is the worst idea i have ever heard
I don't
Wtf is wrong with you
its good to see 3D having a comeback though, has anyone seen the samsung odyssey 3D display?
I don't like spending an extra $100 on an OS I don't want to use
Can't play games with anti cheat
its a game console, not a pc.
windows has to be the worst possible OS for a VR headset
Yes you can lol
how many VR games have kernel anticheat?
A game console that can't play popular no titles cuz of anti cheat
Bro, you just trolling and rage baiting at this point
Like battle Feild
dude is just either really stupid or just rage baiting
ah yes, the famous VR game, battlefield
They literally showed them playing bf6 on one of their trailers / interviews
i see your point there, but i believe that game consoles should be for gaming only and not...doing your science homework
I said steam machine not steam frame for windows
Oh, yeah also horrible
im not sure if I should call the fire department or the vet after he made that horrendous statement
Glad that's a game I don't play so don't care if it runs or not
kind of a bummer that there isnt a oled 1080p monitor
its both burnt and raw
Also there's a solid chance kernel anticheat will work on the steam machine with its translation layer and valve's relationship with these large game brands
If you want a processor than Is smaller than the usual PC CPU where do you go, what companies make such things except intel amd and snapdragon
Smaller? Why?
its a bit of a shame but i think theres a good reason why they dont exist (they do but theyre less abundant)
Besides, the steam box is a pc, you can install windows if you want to take a 10% fps hit to all your game. Having windows doesn't mean "anti cheat" can be used. The games now want secure boot which is done on a bios level. You dont know what your talking about. Just stop. Its ok to be wrong and have an opinion. But not present it as fact.
Many games that use battle eye can't play on Linux either
For whatever reason, some small device or whatever
Okay. And?
Is there any company that makes small efficient processors but still powerful
Basicly any competitive game you can't play
apple
Have you looked into mini PCs?
arm cpus exist
But those are like private
Is there no other company that actually sells such things
And some ppl like those games I don't see what your not getting
theres one reason, such as how production costs make it cost closer to a 1440p or 4K oled, which i see. oleds are expensive
then don't buy it?
true
It's a machine made for playing games that can't play all the games
you act like every product ever has to be perfect for every person ever
Same situation as some people like wireless VR. Not everyone cares some do. Play and buy what you like
We have AMD, Intel, snapdragon and that's it?
also,
Also there's a solid chance kernel anticheat will work on the steam machine with its translation layer and valve's relationship with these large game brands
And apple
and so as the xbox, playstation, and the nintendo, its a game console that cant play all the games.
Are you smooth brained?
That's copuim
you forgot that ibm makes the powerpc? ;-;
(jk, powerpc dead)
IBM doesn't design silicon anymore
Can it play bloodborne? Or insert whatever PS5 exclusive is hot right now
yep, theyre dead
You forgot about silicon graphics and irix
Linux isn't popular enough for these devs to have Linux work on it
zilog? the z80 hasnt been changed since the 70s, you know its futureproofed when it hasnt been changed for 50 years XD
The steam box isnt perfect by any stretch of the imagination. But itll be a great mini pc for what it is. And having built mini pcs, it can be a nightmare. The fact it can do what it can, is short of a miracle for what they will sell it at.
i think you vastly underestimate the sway that valve has
Do they actually sell the chips
Depends on the price
Like I'm not talking about the products
Did they announce the price of the steam stuff?
I'm talking about processors itself
no
No
you don't want socketed processors for a mini pc
Steam is notorious for taking a hit on their hardware, because they make it back 100 fold on their ecosystem and games on steam
you can play like 90% games on linux now I want to know what Damocles is smoking
worse cooling and takes up more room
If they had that kind of sway they would have done so on the steam deck already
its also a mainstream gaming console thats competing against the xbox, playstation, and nintendo :0
Oh hold on though I forgot we have ampere CPUs
comparing a low power handheld to the steam machine is fucking wild
im sure any kid who gets it for christmas wont care if it doesnt have all of the games. theyll still have fun with it and thats all that matters :)
Didn't Linux say something about 509 dollars to valve and they reacted Negitively
Even not socketed, like there is no way there is only 4 companies that sell the actual chips as a product
Linus*
What?
I forgot about ampere through
there's only 3 worth considering
No, lol. They answered that they dont have an official prixe yet.
What are they
That's kinds how that works
there's a million other brands, but they all suck
no idea, never looked into it, because they're objectively inferior
Even at 700$ its still a good price for what it can do
except zilog my beloved ofc
Hmm so what other brands are like up there
there aren't any
We have
Amd Intel snapdragon Ampere
There's other architectures
There has to be something else
you're either AMD, Intel, Snapdragon, sorta amper, or you're entirely irrelevant
That's kinda goofy
Not sure what you're calling ampere
The ampere cpus
Which are what?
ampere computers, they're arm based desktop socketed processors
nvidia cpus?
used to be popular in homelabs some years ago
yeah basically no one does
We have x86 arm and riscV basically
Like of course there is a monopoly but there still has to be something else
in this case, there isn't
is this good or trash
Outside of that you're talking FPGA or dedicated
I find it odd that there aren't something that is as good as 10 year old amd/intel
He litterly said he brought up that price point and they reacted Negitively
Because it's impossible to compete with the big three
So it's not going to be priced like a console
But it should be possible to compete with the big three from 10 years ago?!no
It's prob gunna be like 800 dollar
the investment and experience required is so absurdly high that you'd have to be insane to invest in it
X86 is old... Go look at when that chip/architecture was released
even if there was a company that could compete with 10 year old amd/intel, it would be so much more expensive that the demand would be zero
A, you buy an old chip from AMD/Intel for cheap and get pretty good support
B, you buy a new chip from a random third party you've never heard of, that is 10x the price, and has little to no support
woah, the intel 8086
There is no way like china didn't make their own CPU from scratch even if not that good I'm sure they would of done it, maybe not mass produced?
the only support you can expect on it is it will run linux and thats it
Yeah you got a point
That's in the works but isn't really relevant outside if China for now
i don't think you understand just how big the monopoly on silicon production is, there is pretty much one company that actually produces competitive silicon
and that's TSMC
I mean you have one singular country making the processors which is crazy
Apple, NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Snapdragon, all subcontract to TSMC
Need to stop relaying on tsmc
how do you plan on doing that?
So like we are at the level that
there is literally no one else even remotely close to competing with them
Start building up other manufacturers
Do you have a cool hundred trillion USD to toss at that
Its probably impossible for something other than tsmc in the next 100 years?
then you don't see a return on investment for 10-15 years, if ever
making a cpu by scratch (part 1 of many)
no one (except for samsung, ew)
Depending on one manufacturer is going to cause trouble
you act like there's another option
That's why they need to invest to building up others
Wait till he learns about foxconn
then you don't see a return on investment for 10-15 years, if ever
Can a company evolve so far to reach the point of there being literally no other viable alternative for decades
More like 5p
Its a wild concept idk
50* which at that point is investment only a government can take on
im gonna continue watching cuz this is absurd and funny haha
i don't think you understand just how complex modern lithography is
I do but
I don't
If you think there can be competition, you don't
It's still problematic
Im just thinking
nope
Absolutely, but there's literally no other option
Everyone relies on 1 entity and doing anything else is not a option
And with how China has been saying they own Taiwan I get China gunna take over the chip market and fk everyone over
Correct
You act like that's even an option in the modern climate
That has been a thing since taiwan existed
Taiwan is too important for everyone to be given away to China as a b'day gift
wym by causing trouble, like if there would be something bad like an earthquake in taiwan everything goes in shambles including all the companies like amd, nvidia?
That will be ww3
The US basically has a constant military presence in the area specifically to prevent china from doing that
It's not impossible for china to acquire it via le war
No one wants ww3
Not to get political but Taiwan is the single target that would trigger ww3
It will never happen
China will be flattened and or sanctioned.
If ww3 happens world is gone
Yet you still see the us sinking some ships in venezuela
Do I need to worry about anything if I unplug my gpu and restart my pc? Static or sth?
then dont start another chip manafacturer company rofl
ah yes the us and the chinese propaganda
Y'all know the story of the library of alexandria, if say tsmc gets absolutely obliterated, I wonder how much time it would take for us to recover
Modern life relies on Taiwan so heavily that there's no doubt what happens if someone has a hot temper and invsdes
what
static is a non-issue
Us now sucks, they behave like the russians they sanctioned
battling venezuela over oil and hiding it behind drug trafficking
China will just do what Russia did and mfs won't do a thing
If all facilities just get removed from earth will we be able to recreate it in a decent period of time or is it going to take decades
china attacking taiwan is one of the few times the US would be forced to act
Deep down I fear the same.
Just do be sure. This is the power cable?
To Taiwan? Nope. That legitimately is ww3
All lithography facilities? 50+ years to rebuild
Nope cuz ppl know ww3 would cause the end of the planet
Which is about the case either way.
Wait when you put it this way
Losing Taiwan is losing daily life
and the US allowing China to take taiwan would be the US essentially accepting defeat to china, which is never going to happen with the current political climate in the US
Tsmc is the most important thing we have in earth?
Or am I glazing
the one thing the US hates more than anything else, is to lose
Without a doubt
At this point in time. Yeah
They already are losing wdym
imagine if it doent exist
The world would not be nearly as modernized as it is without TSMC
Its probably common sense but I didnt think about it before
Its not common sense
Quite a realization
Guess what happens when the US loses its entire supply of advanced silicon?
They either get it back, or destroy it so their adversay can't monopolize it
Folks worry about the middle east or Ukraine etc, but the scariest thing is is poking taiwan
Is all facilities literally in Taiwan?
most production facilities
Most of the innovative fab is indeed in Taiwan
there's numerous research facilities elsewhere, but they can't produce at scale
They are making a fab shop in USA
if america is brave then they would make facilities and everything would be cheaper
do we think taiwan has W opsec?
but the thing is
thanks, ill be doing this. i ordered it today, and got the tiny 2 for only 129 dollars. ended up getting it quicker for 30 usd, so ill be sure to test it out before my case comes over and ill be able to build
it'll be a decade before they produce anything meaningful, and they'll immediately be behind TSMC
They are making a fab shop in Arizona pretty sure
literally everything made in the US is more expensive
So if you would want to do the most destruction to humanity in an efficient way you would just nuke TSMC facilities
W pfp send the source thanks
that the costs of making a facility is so high that its not even worth it
honestly, i just googled a meme based on that i was in an open relationship lol
Global specialization is the single best thing to happen to the world in recent history
Could be worse than USA could be Canada, Canada doesn't make any tech advancements
Countries specializing in certain goods and services is what allowed the world to modernize so quickly
Though we would still have the current chips so I guess at first there wouldn't be a big effect for a short period of time
For a few days
i don't think you understand just how fast we consume chips
no offence, but the US is lucky
90% of shit comes from China or Taiwan
if Taiwan stopped producing silicon today, there would be global shortages in a week
Yeah a few days at most
entire industries would be bankrupt in a month
Thing is you would have certain companies just buying everything in 1 day
And the rest will just be gg
we have a huge tax from wares that are imported. TCL has a 98" thats very good going for 2000 USD on retail.
in Norway the taxes are so huge its actually cheaper to import it from you guys.. because the stores sells it over here for 98k nok (9,8k USD) retail
Don't help companies are using so much shit on their ai data center are will implode one day when they realize they don't actually make money from ai
same tv, same producer, different taxes
taxes if i were to import it from US would be 3,6k usd. so still cheaper than buying in my own country by almost 3x
That makes me think Taiwan must have some crazy defence in place no?
Or is everyone just chill because it's a necessity for the whole world
Except China
have you remembered the bitcoin mining incident that happened to the gpus? thats whats happening and they will throw away the gpus and realize that ai wont make that much money, right?
educate me, what happened?
There will be a crazy crash when AI bubble pops
remember the 2020 days where companies starting to buy a shit ton of gpus and the prices started going crazy
Yes, The US military
they were trying to mine bitcoin
Japan said if China attack they will attack China
now ram prices are going crazy too because of ai companies
Which is why Japan and Chian are beefing rn
And China is basicly giving middle finger to Japan rn
Okay so we have ASML and TSMC which are interconnected
honestly, i wasnt aware of that. but that makes sense, and the fluctuation in prices of the bitcoins have sparked the roof ever since it came out.
i remember asking my dad if he could legit use some of my confirmation money to invest in bitcoin very early.. with 10k Nok, i would have had atleast 1,3m today
No ASML no machines for TSMC
thats about 130k USD
I don't trust USA to do anything
So technically ASML would be as important or more important than TSMC?
is that the reason why?
What they meant is just the mining craze and great GPU shortage of 2020+. Bitcoin specifically quickly became unprofitable on consumer GPU.
For now
yeah the demand is insane
It's not even that expensive for ram
ive been thinking: why doesnt the companies over here do bitcoin mining, it would surely be beneficial.. but maybe you just dont hear or see it over here :/
then you can't trust much of anything
ive been considering getting a rig myself, investing.. but it seems a bit too late for it
It's like 200 cad which doesn't seem that exoensive
basically everything relies on the US, or relies on something that relies on the US
Why would I trust USA
the US is one of the single most influential countries globally
You're blind, or have a very short memory.
US doesn't make chips yet without US those chips wouldn't be made
define a bit? im having a pair of 64gb cl36 4800mhz over here, and im pretty sure i could get the retail price my friend paid for them as of today
Or they would but there would be different factors at play 🤨
if the US disappeared tomorrow global trade would collapse within minutes, and almost every country would face immense financial hardships
which type of ram are you talking about
I purchased a 2x16GB 6000CL30 kit in October 2022 for $260 US. That same kit sold for $107-$115 for two years after that. Today, its $280 US.
You're wildy confused.
Its quite interesting how the dynamics work at such large scale
When we are talking about such technology
a kit i bought for 329usd about a year ago, sells for 1175usd today
Its all interconnected in complex ways yet it just works
(2x48gb ddr5 6000 cl30)
i wouldnt say global trade would fail. but alot of it, definitely. countries has deals with one and another, private deals like this isnt unusual.
but i would definitely say that some of these deals also goes through the US first, so there is definitely a glue there
And if something goes wrong everyone gets affected
Yet somehow we are able to make it work more or less
Almost every major industry is reliant on the US in some way, even if indirectly
Just no big deal! /s
Most global trades occur in USD as well
if the US disappeared then USD would be devalued instantly
i mean, norway is huge in oil. so we are dependent on people wanting our oil for sure. but im not sure if the US is our biggest buyer or not, im not putting accusations here.. but i doubt it a little bit
Idk I like USD
When I bought my ram a couple of years ago ddr5 6000 speed Gskill ram it was like 190-200 cad and same ram is like 250 cad
Not a huge difference
Its the currency I use yet my country totally doesn't work in USD
"when i bought a computer 30 years ago it cost 10k, now it costs 5k, what a steal!"
did you buy on a special deal or something?
3 years ago would be when DDR5 was still brand new and in extreme demand
doesnt matter. deals are deals, and ram doesnt go down unless theres new generations. meaning we wont see that much decrease until ddr6
I had no such deal
prices will still fluctuate a bit after, but after the release date of ddr6.. most likely everythings gonna lower first of all
this is why im considering selling my ram right now, buying a cheaper one
this is a price graph of the most popular kit on PcPartPicker
I honestly don't even notice difference in higher ram speeds
second most popular
since my friend gave me his, and his are... very much more than anyone needs... i feel like i could make a bargain on selling the 64gb sticks and buying a pair of 32 or 16
fourth most popular
what the fuck bro
