To do certain ai and productivity workloads, you need more vram. It doesn't matter if your card is 10x faster if it can't even load the model.

So (cheap non data center) gpus with cuda support and has more than 16gb of vram are: 3090, 3090 ti, 4090, and 5090

Vram is the biggest limitation in those workloads, so people are gonna buy the gpus with cuda support + more than 16gb of vram as to not limit their potential

Nvidia knows this too, hence why they're limiting the vram on the 5080
