yeah
hey so you think i can get a 2070 or 2080 instand a 3070?
it would be less and i would like it to be that
idk, jaysamuri7's list is probably better then mine
hey @gloomy crater
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FsGQLP id go with this one instead of mine
thats his list
hey if the 3070 is not in when i buy i will get a 2070 or 2080 i think thats ok
yeah'
if you can get one for a good price, and don't mind buying a last generation card, then sure
Last gen cards aren’t bad ngl just keep room for upgrade path
Soo... I was just randomly looking into the safety and warnings guide of the Vive Wireless Adapter and I found an interesting tidbit:
It didn't mention Qualcomm Quick Charge even once. It did however mention that inorder for proper operation make sure to use either the included battery pack or a power supply that can deliver 1.5A at 12V. Meaning any Anker Battery with IQ 2.0 support and at least 18W of charging power will work 🎉
@haughty thistle
do you need the vive trackers for the valve index to use full body tracking
?
You need lol
i would like
Vive trackers or Vive wands if you already have a Vive
Unless you go Kinect route which is like, kinda janky af
You wanna hear something funny?
There is an adult game that allows you to use 7 Vive trackers for its “vTuber” mode
Ow no
It has both normal and VR mode, you can become an anime vTuber waifu with the VR mode
And before you ask, you cant do lewd thing in the vTuber mode
Probably 2 for legs 4 for arms and another for torso
And with your controllers you would have 9 tracking points in total on your body I mean wtf
Still not as many trackers as a mocap suit
Imagine paying $3000 for mocap suit full body tracking in VR
Might costs even more who know
Hahaha but amazing though
But really want like feel into it like where you feel pain when you get hit in the right part of the body
google maps
Why is his vr space so messy
There should be around 4-6 feet of clear floor in each direction
Sorry for the dumb question - but what would be your best recommendation for first time VR for games like Star Wars squadrons? My PC can handle it, but wasn’t sure what models were recommended, etc.
I have a Rift s and it works fine for everything that I do
And they're relatively cheap now
Do the games have to support the headset directly or do they just emulate a monitor?
They have to support a headset
Like how doom vfr isn't available on steam for oculus
Regularly
You can make it work though
Next time he'll stand up he will just trip over something and hit his head
Depends on the VR.
I'm running a 1070 EVGa hybrid with a mild OC. waiting on my index.
For like a Quest, Rift, or original Vive, definitely, with a Quest 2, Index, or Reverb G2, you might struggle a bit in some games
I would put the Quest at least on the level of the Index or Vive Pro, if not more on a level with the Quest 2 and Reverb G2. Like I keep mentioning: I get worse framerates in Quest Link then I do on my Index. I'd say about 30-50% worse performance overall on Quest Link compared to an Index running natively
the lab
I'm just waiting for the day I can go buy an affordable intro VR headset without being required to make a Facebook account to use a screen on your face.
I got a Quest 2 for my birthday and I hate having to use Facebook on it
fair
@sullen linden mocap suit VR is a lot of fun, but is still quite expensive and has almost no support unless you are making a game yourself.
The mocap suit I recommend the most right now is the Rokoko Smartsuit Pro-
($2,495 US, has 19 really good sensors, is easy to wear, and has very simple software).
https://www.rokoko.com/products/smartsuit-pro
Next would be the Perception Neuron 2.0-
($1,499 US, 32 sensors, harder to wear, and calibrate, decent software).
https://neuronmocap.com/content/product/32-neuron-edition-v2
And if you want to have true force feedback you would want to get a TeslaSuit.
(Not available yet, $13,000 US, 10 motion sensors, 80 haptic electrostimulation channels, decent looking software).
Teslasuit is the only one I have not been to a demo of, and is definitely expensive, but the electrostimulation based haptics if done correctly will be the best force feedback suit out their by a landslide.
Electrostimulation based haptics and feedback are mostly used in the medical field for physical therapy, and high level sports training.
Here is a somewhat detailed explanation of the Teslasuit haptics from a 2017 blog post of theirs.
https://teslasuit.io/blog/teslasuit-haptic-feedback-system/
And if you want to go deeper they refrence this paper from the Hasso Plattner Institute out of Germany.
I've tried some high power electrostimulation outside of VR for some projects and it is quite amazing.
The Teslasuit is by far the closest to the suit in Ready Player One. The only difference is the number of electrostimulation channels in the suit.
Your own personal motion capture studio in one portable suit. Our motion capture suit has a wireless range of up to 100 meters, requiring no external parts. The suit can create its own hotspot that you can log your device onto when on location.
Perception Neuron motion capture system version 2.0 product details.
TESLASUIT is a full body haptic suit and training solution for physical VR experiences. TESLASUIT integrates a combination of haptics, motion capture, and biometry.
Also the price of the Teslasuit should go down pretty soon by quite the margin, probably to about $6000 US.
Now this is epic
Would be useful but it doesn't work with my headset
ok so im trying to download the oculus quest software
when i download it and open it
it says do you want to open it
i hit yes
nothing happens
ping me
inb4 how do sideload teslasuit support on quest 2
1.) Buy a TeslaSuit
2.) Spend a few hundred or thousand hours building a game that uses it.
3.) Put it on the quest 2
4.) Done
Also a quest 2 might not have the processing required to do the extra computations for motion capture, and haptics, so quest link would probably be better.
Does anyone know if I could run an older VR headset (Oculus, 3~ years old I believe) with a 5900x, 32GB RAM, and an R9 390 8GB? My buddy has a VR set he never uses, and I'd like to test the waters of VR before I invest heavily.
id say maybe since it is only bout 3 yrs old it will proabbaly work
do you know the name of the headset?
@burnt vault
It should work just fine, it'll probably be a bit overkill tho
I literally just want to get Beat Saber working and use it for cardio, I'll invest in a better headset when I get a 3080 to finish this new PC, and I confirm I enjoy VR (I've used it before, loved it, but haven't done more than an hour or two total).
yea only thing is the songs on beatsaber arnt too great. i would say to mod beatsaber with bmbf but it is kinda difficult and make sure to try not to get any viruses.
Sideloading it on the quest 2 is extremely easy, it can’t possibly be that hard on a PC
If you play Beat Saber on PC, just use Mod Assistent to install the mods. It's much easier on PC, because the game natively supports Customs songs, and all the mods do is add more capabilities to the game, like full color environment lighting (Chroma) or more options for Object placement in maps (Mapping and Noodle Extensions)
I do agree installing mods and custom songs on the Quest is a pain with BMBF, but then again, it's at least not as restrictive as a true Console, so be glad you can at least install Mods, and Facebook hasn't shut down the modding of Beat Saber yet
As others said, you rig (other then the GPU) is probably overkill for a Rift CV1. But other then the low resolution, the CV1 is still a pretty great headset, especially for entry-level VR. It's very comfortable, lightweight, and easy to set up. If your friend only has 2 cameras, I'd encourage you to get a 3rd camera, but other then that you're pretty much set ^^
Sweet, I'll hit him up and see if he wants to let me borrow it, or sell it on the cheap. He said he hasn't used it more than once or twice in the last year or two.
How? Vr is awesome I don’t understand how someone could just let their headset sit there.
I use mine daily
For some there just isn't any interesting software out there. I also had a period where I just didn't touch VR for a few months...
I know but for me I can’t understand it. I spend hours in Vr chat just doing whatever.
Just running around in Public worlds is kinda boring to me xD
I find it awesome to just be able to talk to tons of people from tons of different places and life styles. It’s so great that you don’t know the person and you won’t ever see them again because it allows you to just be yourself and enjoy just being there.
Some of the most memorable times I have had in the past few months were with friends and making new friends in Vr chat
I usually just chill with the same friends in like Friends only worlds and whatnot. For me Public worlds have gotten more toxic then I like ,so I try to avoid them at all costs...
Yeah that will happen
I find some communities In VR chat are really great people though.
For example, and I’m not a furry. I love going into the furry worlds because you meet some interesting people and everyone is generally very nice.
Some worlds I avoid though
But furries are just so chill
And fun to hang out with
For whatever reason
Idk
Eh. I'm not a furry myself. Still I own a Nanachi as my avatar. Some might call it furry, but I see the origin being from an anime and prefer to call myself a weeb...
Yeah your PFP kinda sus
I’m not a furry but I’m just saying, some communities are just more enjoyable to be with. So I go to the furry worlds to hang out
That is my Nanachi Avatar tho...
Yeah
That’s the joke
You seem to be really active on the VR part of this server, what headset do you have?
*Headsets
I haven’t picked up my headset in quite a while
I should probably get a workout lol
As of right now my collection has a size of 5:
I barely use my Quest at all, mostly for when I'm meeting my VR friends IRL.
I have a Rift CV1 that I use on occasion for Beat Saber, but mostly for The Climb and McOsu.
The Reverb G2 I mainly use for ETS2 right now, but if the lens issues I have get fixed through Lens inserts, I might start using it for some more scenic games like HLA soon.
My most recent addition is a Vive Pro with Wireless Adapter. It's really cool to have proper native cable quality PCVR completely wireless. The battery life sucks tho, so I mostly use it for like Beat Saber 360 and for shorter VRChat sessions.
The Index continues to be my main headset. I can wear it for long periods of time (my current record is 12h with only the occasional bathroom break)...
Wow that’s a lot of money
Like I said, I have a quest
But I plan on upgrading sometime soon
Maybe wait a year for some advancements
I bought the CV1 on the used market for like 270€. Not the best price, but it's almost brand new, so I was fine with it. All other headsets I bought at full retail price, and my wallet hates me for that ^^"
Remember that given the time, anyone can afford basically anything. I just don't have much to spend my money on otherwise, so I started collecting VR headsets
Nice
I wish I had a better headset
The quest is good
But the visuals aren’t very clear
With link
Using the Quest standalone is pretty good, but I do agree that Link makes the visuals quite blurry. Like to the point that text is almost more readable on the CV1, a headset with a way lower resolution
So even if half life Alyx is max everything and pixel count is very very high, anything more than 4 feet away is blurry
It’s frustrating
But it’s a software thing, it doesn’t happen with virtual desktop.
So I prefer using VD for more scenic games
Like HLA
It's because Oculus has to compress the hell out of the image, to make it fit over a standard USB connection with as little latency as possible. VD really shows what happens when you prefer visual quality over latency with the Quest (more so with the OG Quest then with the Quest 2), as latency sucks in VD. I can't even hit a single cut in Beat Saber on VD...
The Quest 2 might have more powerful hardware for Image decoding, but it's still not on the level of what a dedicated solution like the Vive Wireless Adapter can achieve in terms of latency and visual fedality. The bottleneck with the Quest is not on the PC, it's on the HMD...
Yeah
I hate the limitations
Also the VD latency is very very low for me
I have great wifi
It's just what you have to deal with on a standalone headset. Facebook decided not to make the Quest capable of a native connection probably for the reason of cost savings and making sure that even people without a Type-C connection can use their Quest for PCVR, but the tinfoil-hat in me tells me that PCVR on the Quest is purposefully bad to nudge the user in buying games on the headset itself so Facebook can maximise profits...
I doubt it
More money in pcvr
It’s in their best interest to make the experience as good as possible and provide a hybrid headset
Like the quest 2
Not really. On PCVR, people can buy their games just as well on SteamVR, which would mean Facebook doesn't earn a cent with the game sales
That’s why they have exclusives
And that's what I encrouage people to do: To buy their VR games on Steam. So if they decide to switch away from Facebook, they don't loose all of their game library
In my opinion the smartest thing to do is team up with steam and merge the VR experience
Because if a game has native support for a headset other then Oculus, this native support will only be built into the SteamVR version of the game
Steam would benefit with Facebook as a partner
Facebook shows no interest in doing so. They want their exclusives not easily playable on another headset (probably another reason they move to standalone, because of Revive)
I know
Valve is interested in a Partnership, just Facebook isn't
But it would benefit both companies greatly is what I’m saying.
Yeah... good luck getting Facebook to do the right thing...
They never did. At least not from a consumer point of view
Yeah
The best possible outcome: oculus moves away from Facebook and steam joins it
Steam and oculus would push VR into mainstream
And oculus is currently doing that with the quest 2
The issue is they wouldn’t have the marketing and support of Facebook
Facebook is a detriment in terms of marketing
The only thing facebook brings to the tables is a ton of cash
Almost any other company would be better
Welcome to the joke
I let my rift sit for almost a year because I accidentally trained my brain into getting nauseous and giving my eye ache purely from just looking at it sitting in it's bag, the only thing that got me to put it on and accept the pain were new blade and sorcery updates or blade and sorcery song packs (still haven't gotten around to modding it)
Just release half life 3 for VR 😎
I believe you entirely however if the facebook requirement ever goes away (I believe you've mentioned that being a big deal for you) you should try the quest 2, one of my biggest loves about quest 2 over my old rift is that I can finally read some damn text. Hated text in rift it was almost never good enough, but quest 2 even via link finally feels like it's fine and at a level that actually makes me wanna buy something even better like an index or G2 with index controllers
The thing is, every headset in my collection I bought for a reason. And I don't see enough reason for me to sell my OG Quest for the Quest 2. Like I said I barely use it nowadays...
I also mentioned that the Quest 2 is most likely just plain better for PCVR then the OG Quest due to processing limitations on the headset here: #virtual-reality message
The Quest 2 might have more powerful hardware for Image decoding, but it's still not on the level of what a dedicated solution like the Vive Wireless Adapter can achieve in terms of latency and visual fedality. The bottleneck with the Quest is not on the PC, it's on the HMD...
I'm an open defender of native PCVR solutions, as in my honest opinion it's just stupid to waste processing power doing heavy image compression when there's a wire running anyways. For wireless solutions like the Vive Wireless Adapter, I can totally understand that the image has to be compressed for the sake of latency, but even then, as an enthusiast, I'd hate to give up image quality on my main headset just to have wireless capabilities. The Vive Wireless Adapter is really good, it's like having a wire running, just that there is no wire. The problem the Vive solution has however is that the dedicated decoding hardware is rather power hungry and due to licensing fees for the Intel WiGig and DisplayLink technology, it's way too pricey for the consumer market...
With VR we need way more hardware in the middle ground (400-800 bucks). As of right now, someone who wants to get into VR has to either agree to stupid compromises or will have to pay way more then they're probably willing to...
Just to "simulate" or an average PC user with not much Hardware knowledge might go about this:
Why pay 1k for a headset with lower resolution, requiring base stations, a powerful PC and requires a wired connection to said PC, if I can just have everything in one for just 300 bucks?
later...
Half Life Alyx runs like garbage on my 1060? This card is supposed to be VR ready, VR is all garbage! Just overpriced, and shitty software!
When I said try I meant more so you should quite literally just try it, not saying you should replace your old hardware necessarily or commit to owning new hardware that you wont need
yo my vr headset says error code 1-4, i updated everything restarted my pc, uninstalled windows mixed reality, and went on like 2 tech support pages with microsoft and not even they could help me.
error code 1-4 (check display cable)

have you by chance, checked your display cable?
lmao ofc
Did you make sure your GPU has a DP 1.4 connector?
All of this worked before, im plugging it into the same hdmi ports into the gpu
so yes
I actually found my old pc ran half life Alex just fine with a 1060
I don't know if the G2 has even support for DP 1.2 in the sense of running at 60Hz. It might require DP1.4 to work...
Is it possible you stepped on or rolled over the cable with a chair?
Oh wait... You have an older WMR headset?
Damn compared to the oculus quest 72hz
Yeah, it was more over exaggerated then it is IRL, I just mean it has these compromises can really scare consumers away...
Didn't the Odyssey+ run at 90Hz?
oh yea 90 mb
I used to have a similar issue with WMR and a certain USB extension. Maybe your HDMI extension died, or are you plugging the headset directly into the PC?
I'm in a VR discord and I swear to the god the number of grown ass people that have said something similar to 'I don't understand why Link doesn't work on my Gt610 the quest 2 runs beat saber so it should run MS:Flight Sim too it doesn't even look as good as beat saber hurrr dabudahrrrr'
directly

Did you recently update your GPU driver? If so try installing an older one and see if that helps
i updated it after it started not to work cause i thought maybe that'd fix it
so it was not working on the old one
the cable dosent seem damaged so idk if i stepped on it
i do have 2 cats tho
what if they broke it, would i have to get a whole new headset

Then again, WMR doesn't have the most helpful error messages...
Example I had with my G2:
1-7 Check Power delivery to HMD
Even though I had the external Power brick plugged in. Turns out WMR hates my USB 3.1 connector...
Check the whole cable. Something that looks like a stronger bend can very well be a break in the cable, as most headsets nowadays use optical cables for data rather then copper
it seems fine
Yeah this is sounding like one of those situations where since you've checked all the software you have to check the hardware, if you can't identify any issues with the cable and you can't check against a spare the next best thing is to check on another computer
Liquid most likely wouldn't permeate through the cable but did liquid get on either end?
I've heard the OG Vive the 2016 model was very susceptible to sweat intruding though gaps next to the lenses, but that was pretty much the only HMD to ever have such an issue. HTC fixed it with the 2017 model. But ofc defects can always happen
Yeeah I'm gonna have to say if you think water got on the ends of the cable you should check the headset against another computer
If it gets the same error there it may be new cable time
how would i go about a new cable
its like connected to the headset and u cant disconnect it
without ripping it out and breaking it
Contact Samsung or check places like eBay. The cable can be disconnected but it's a pain in the ass to my understanding
is it expensive
You'd have to contact samsung assuming they sell them or provide them still
Even something as insignificant as an imperfect solder joint can cause issues down the line if it's at a point where stress is put onto the solder or where a lot of heat can occur...
otherwise who knows with the used market because how many people had or have the desire to dismantle their Odyssey+ to sell the cable specifically
most would just sell the headset for parts and likely because the cable was bad
ahh thats a pain
Companies have to sell replacement parts in many parts of the world thanks to "Roght of Repair" laws. Most don't offer like official stores for that, so contacting is usually your best way
for how long?
alright well thanks guys
Try against another computer first though, it could always be some weird bug
In many US states such laws exist, requiring companies to offer replacement parts...
alrihgt
And I think the EU is also working on a Right to Repair law...
Yeah but surely the timeline is not infinite
otherwise every company would be in a bad position having to maintain a stock of parts for discontinued products
It#s usually for like X amount of years after the company stops selling the initial product to their partner network
I think the EU wants to require for 2 years (due to 2 years of government required full coverage warranty)
I know the quest 2 is newer and stuff but I decided to get a rift s because I just didn't want to have to deal with facebook
I'm pretty much exclusively gonna be using Steam VR to play my games unless it runs badly on Steam or it's an Oculus store exclusive
You already had an oculus account?
any new oculus stuff bought afaik you will be forced to make a facebook account
current owners were grandfathered for two years
irony
Also my take on the facebook with oculus is that, well they already have my data, Ive had an instagram account where they could see how long i lingered on an ad before scrolling past, knows my name, friends etc. So what do I have to lose by making my Oculus link to it
your account and all your purchases tied to it
even people who have had accounts for years have had them deleted and get no help
ehhhhh
Either way Facebook had access to your information about purchases
just because they brought a child company in doesnt make too much of a difference for them
I mean people in "good" standing with facebook, who have had accounts for years, have tied a new say quest 2 set to their accounts and for whatever reason the automated bot deletes them, and states the decision is irreversible.
so they have lost possibly hundreds of dollars worth of VR games or whatever else they bought that was tied to their facebook account
yo can someone help me with something
haven't seen a lot of that relative to the number of quest 2s out in the wild, meanwhile I have seen a number of people who do not initially mention when they broke ToS or people still speaking about the issue after a facebook response person did in fact reverse it
I just seem to see a couple every other week on reddit or VR discord
what do i do im getting a oculus rift how i set up?
A CV1 or Rift S?
rift s
One thing you definetly need to install is the Oculus Software
ok
The Rift S just needs to be plugged in and all the setup of the headset finds place while wearing the headset
ok
when I run the steam vr test it uses 100% of my gpu but when the summery comes up after the test it says my pc is easily capable for vr. So when I tried to run a game in vr it was really laggy and crashed a lot, tried lowering settings and it seemed to make no difference at all. Anyways does that just mean that my gpu isn't strong enough or is it something else
Finally
What gpu
2060
question
my oculus quest 2 wont connect to my laptop
i downloaded the oculus software
but it wont show up when it tells me to pair
ping me if u can help
this might sound dumb.. maybe it's just because i got a more comfortable facial thing.. but the most fun i've ever had in VR was today playing Walkabout Minigolf on the quest 2
idk why
seems like a simple game wouldn't be that fun but it was a blast
Make sure your render resolution is correct. In steam vr settings and also oculus if you have a quest/rift.
Sometimes it defaults to weird and overkill values on first set up. Had that happen to a house mate.
2060 is definitely powerful enough, unless you have a G2
I was running my quest 2 on a 1070 (and a low tier inno3d one at that) with no issues, full res and 90hz in all but poorly optimised games. Even then I've only had issues in heavily modded skyrim vr. Just upgraded to a 3060ti though so I'm looking forward to pushing some SS.
My housemate also has a 2060 and it runs smoothly
How much do used indexes go for
around 550-700
Hmm ok
for the full kit
damn thats hella value
Eh. Finding it for less then 900 bucks I'd consider a lucky shot. The Index is still sold at 1k directly from Steam
1k for the Full kit and 600 bucks for the HMD only
I'm just glad I made an oculus account with my gear VR
@haughty thistle lol I got one of those 'promotional' amazon links trying to sell me a valve index, full kit, for $2,066
thats insane
i got 102c in c23 lmao
it had to restart
wierd asus's temp sensor is broken
im getting 60 when hardware info is saying 40
Yeah, Scalpers are everywhere. To be totally honest, unless you save a buck, don't get the the Index anywhere else other then from Steam directly
I'm glad I met Pony when I did. I had been waiting for my index to ship for two months when I met him. He sold me a barely used full Index kit for $650. I can't really use it bc of my graphics card, but it's a launch-era full kit that's just been sitting in his garage so I had it shipped here and it worked great when I tested it on a friend's system. I'ma say it was the best $650 I've ever spent. I wish I could say that buying a 6800XT was the best $650 I've ever spent, but it looks like that's never happening now that the MSRP of that card has officially increased to $800. Guess I won't be able to use this Index on my own system for a while longer
what kind of GPU do you need to run an index at 144hz on a game like beat saber or minecraft vr?
Depends on what steam VR resolution you're running.
At 100% instead of steams default 150% I get an easy 144hz on beatsaber with a 2070 and minecraft wiggles around 144 and 120fps.
150% won't get me beatsaber at 144hz though.
And TBH it makes no difference.
The resolution*
@visual mesa it makes a difference in some situations, but low polygon games like beatsaber with very little text usually are even fine at 85% on most headsets.
I have a buddy who tried using my index on his 1660 super and he held a solid 144fps with 100% resolution, so I'm pretty sure anything better than a 1060 6gb should be fine if you tweak the resolutions.
Hey did you ever get your zen 3 chip? @visual mesa
I remember we were both shooting for one at launch
Ouch man
You following stockdrops?
I have a 6800XT that should be arriving today
And hopefully not a box of rocks
I follow stockdrops and I'm in their discord, but still haven't found anything in stock
Weird question but how much did you have to pay for it? I'm looking to buy one for under $900 if I can find one
I know the Aorus Master was supposed to be $900, and I thought that was insane, but considering that the new MSRP for the 6800XT is $800, it doesn't seem as insane now
I have a program running on my pc that checks stock of rtx 3080s and 3090z everywhere under certain prices.
poggers
I'll finally be able to play HLA and stream again
It's no 6800XT, and this zotac model is ugly as fuck, but it'll drive my system for a good while until better looking and better performing stuff is available
At least it's something. And I can tell you from experience that streaming VR with NVENC is almost as if you're not even streaming, but if you stream with x264, the VR performance tanks (like half the frame rate or even worse in CPU heavy titles)
I only have a personal problem with Zotac, and how they handle independent reviewers (I'm honestly surprised that hasn't blown up yet actually)
what is a good budget vr headset
ooh, tell me more!
@crisp prism Rift S
I dislike Zotac from past experiences with their cards. I would have preferred an Aorus Master 3070 since it would have only been $20 more, but I didn't wanna wait any longer. If an Aorus comes into stock before this order ships, I'll try and grab it, and cancel this one. But personally, I don't think I'll be that lucky. So I'm gonna try and learn to love this ugly little card, and appreciate that I was able to get one at all
Quest 2
The quest 2 is same price and far better
Quest 2 is garbage.
And quest link is unnecessary latency.
If you want fun VR, get a rift s.
If you want portable, get a quest 1
The link also takes five minutes to get you into the game whenever you wanna play. With a native headset, you just turn on the controllers and games are ready to play. With the quest, there's half a dozen extra steps you have to do
Very incorrect just leave the cable plugged in if you want to play on pc and it does it automatically.
Latency is not noticeable at all and has absolutely no effect on gameplay
Far better visuals and the ability to play wirelessly
And also doesn’t need a pc
Oh hell no it doesnt.
You need sidequest
Virtual desktop
A good cable
And even with a wired connection, when I set it up for my buddy he had a solid 5fps at most.
Plus you gotta do weird shit to get the quest in dev mode and it's just not worth the hassle
Trash pc lmao
The only thing you need to do to play pcvr is plug in cable
But apparently that’s too hard for some people
It also has like double the res
So visual clarity is way way better
Pc was a 2060 maxq
And I wish it was that easy
Steam VR doesnt detect the quest 2
Unless you have sidequest/virtual desktop
Gotta make steam vr think it's a rift s
That's why it's such a pain.
And its latency on latency on latency where you'd dodge this problem entirely with a single connection.
Plus Rift S doesny need to charge.
Ok all of this is incorrect I use the quest with link and I’m sorry idk what happened with the pc you used
Everything you have just said is wrong
USB c charges it
Unless you aren’t using it
In which case that’s against recommended use and you can’t really complain
Lemme go through everything you have to do just to load up and play VR on desktop via link. 1. Open the oculus debug tool and set your pixels per display override, because it resets every time your pc powers off. 2. Load up the oculus software. 3. Turn on the quest 4. probably have to draw your boundary again because it forgets all the time. 5. Wait for the menu to load and eventually try enabling oculus link. 6. Wait for the oculus link home menu to load, which takes a while. 7. Enter the steamVR home menu FROM the Oculus home menu, which also takes some time. 8. Enter your SteamVR game from the SteamVR home menu, and after the game loads, you can play it. That is, you have to do all of this every time you want to play VR. On top of having to sideload the capabilities of using SteamVR onto the quest because it only wants to use the oculus store, which is extra effort. The only reason to go through all this trouble to play PCVR on a quest is if it's the only headset you have. If you have a capable PC and only plan on playing using that PC, then getting a rift S is still a better buy in my opinion. Plus the old controllers are more comfortable
I just plug it in and I’m straight into oculus home.
So idk what your computers problem is
Also wdym side load?
Just launch steam VR and it works
Oculus and steam teamed up to do that
No side loading is needed
Good for you, but that's not indicative of everyone's experience. If two people are saying it's a pain to use, then there's gotta be some merit to that claim. One person saying 'mine works great' when tons of other people don't have that same experience doesn't help much. We're just trying to warn people about what you may have to do in order to get things working should you choose to get a quest
Yeah but your a small minority if you look online
You call literally millions of results for people looking for answers having to do with quest link not working a small minority?
First of all, millions is a massive overstatement. And second people will have small issues, just like on the rift s.
And yes it is the minority
It’s just not worth the argument really do whatever you guys want with your money.
Fine then. I don't wanna argue with someone who only sees what they want to see
Same here buddy
💕
just arrived today only took a week or so since ordering, any tips on setting it up?
ooooh nice
Mount the lighthouses prefarably on the ceiling or as high on the wall as possible. Try avoide Tri-Pods if possible, and if that's unavoidable, use high quality expensive ones. The lighthouses are pretty fragile while they're running. Don't stress the cabe at the point where it comes out the headset too much. So try avoid pulling the headstrap up too much. And lastly, don't use the click on the analog stick on the controllers. Keeping all of these in mind should grant you a long lasting life of your Index
im super mad
a month and 3 days MY QUEST HASN'T ARRIVED YET
Im going to shout at usps next time im calling them for their bullshit
so annoyed, I had ordered the index back near the start of 2020, but then supply got so bad 8 weeks turned into what felt like 16 and I said screw it and canceled the order. then we heard about the quest 2 that was coming so I decided to wait. but now that has facebook requirements and I hear at setting 3 for the IPD you lose FOV and can see the edges of the screen...
so now I'm waiting to see if the decagear 1 is real, or whatever HTC supposedly has coming
why does this keep happening
try a different usb pot?
when that happened to me I just restarted my pc and it worked
The first thing I'm gonna do when I get my 3070 and I can actually play VR again is a project I've been planning for a while using the cameraplus mod for Beatsaber where me and my sister play a song while doing both ingame recordings using cameraplus, and also do IRL recordings using our webcams. I used to do this all the time when I had a quest and my computer didn't have to do both the recording and processing for the game, and my family really enjoyed being able to see me play, and they've been asking why I haven't been doing it as much recently, so they'll probably appreciate a collab between me and my sister now that she has a PC too
I'm just excited to be able to do stuff again ngl
been using oculus link mainly to have custom songs on PC beatsaber so I don't have to muck around with the quest Beat Saber
pretty nice tbh
kind of annoyed with inside out tracking though definitely not as good as outside tracking but it is manageable
You can do all of that in Liv with little to no set up
Okay well Quest 2 has finally helped me achieve one thing i definitely wanted
Via link I set my refresh rate to 90Hz and my resolution to 1.2 and was able to enjoyably play Crash bandicoot in Bigscreen on a giant TV screen in the middle of space
Seeing as I don't currently have the resources for a outdoors projector theatre for gaming this is a nice stand in
VR is so freaking cool, haven't been this excited since I got my rift a couple years ago
really happy VR is getting to the point where text is eligible
Yey, would you recommend me what VR pack is the best one for personal use (not commercial)
I've used an htc vive pro for a long time, but I would like to get a new one and don't really know which one to go for. The goal is to build the "perfect couple VR kit"
I mean, not a new one, I don't have the vive pro anymore 😂
The Vive Pro is still a good headset, and if you want the best wireless PCVR experience, it's pretty much the one to go. If you want the best, all in one box VR set, it's the Index. The main HMD on the Index is a bit better in comfort, the FOV is quite significantly bigger and the higher refreshrate screens make motion look really fluid
The Index controllers are in a whole other league compared to the Vive wands, and are by far, in terms of features the best VR controllers out right now
I'd suggest going dedicated hardware for VR, as virtualization can still add tiny amounts of latency, and in VR you want to reduce latency as much as possible. If you'd still want to run to VR rigs on one machine, make sure to have a dedicated GPU on each and run virtualization, as SteamVR will only run with one HMD at a time. 4 cores on the CPU should be considered minimum for VR and anything with the power of a 2070 or better should be able to run the Index fine at 100% resolution scaling. I run my Index at 200% on a 3090 with no frame drops in most games I play
Great
What do you consider Vr dedicated hardware, actually?
I mean I only know msi "vr ready"
vr dedicated hardware? isnt that just a pc thats only used for vr
No what I mean is running VR directly on the hardware. You can't just run 2 headsets off the same PC at the same time, so to run 2 VR headsets off the same PC, you'd need to use VMs to have both headsets running at the same time, or you just have 2 seperate PCs, one for each headset
Hey chicken, I think it was you that had said nvidia > amd for vr?
For me I found the drivers work way better way less issues in VR and you can also enable VRSS on an nvidea card. VRSS greatly increases visual quality.
VRSS also makes the game perform better
Yep. Nvidia drivers are much more stable for VR. So I was probably the one you remember saying this
VRSS?
Also have you tested any rdna2 cards? I just got my 6800XT
Maybe we can compare some things
I haven't had any problems so far
You won’t have many “problems” you just won’t be getting the VR performance in a nvidea card
Even if they are of equal power, nvidea will perform better vr
Virtual real super sampling, it’s an nvidea feature
When chicken said the nvidia drivers were more stable that sort of implies that the amd drivers have some instability, no?
I'd call that a problem
I just want to figure out exactly what that means
Smoother performance from what I have seen
Not that AMD drivers are unstable for VR. It's more that AMD likes to release driver updates that sometimes just flatout break SteamVR, or cause any number of issues
Yeah that also happens
This has happened with rdna2 cards?
Or at least within the past 6 months with 5000 series radeon cards?
And Nvidia cards tend to have a generally better VR performance. Example: the 5700XT performance is generally ~5-10 fps worse in VR then the Nvidia card with similar flat performance
I see
That's not too bad
I was expecting like
Big stutters or crashes
When you mentioned stability
wasn't the point that that doesn't happen...?
I was referring to the fps
I can find one person complaining about amd drivers past 2019
sometimes steamvr updating also breaks shit
vr in general seems to be jankier than flatscreen
Much newer technology than a normal monitor
HAHAA epic
just found a second handed full htc vive pro kit for 500€, should i get it instead of 1k for the valve index haha
you'd be getting much worse controllers
I don't remember the specs for vive headsets though
if you've done your research and you want it then why not
well i played many hours with the htc, but never tried out valve indez
so im not sure about letting 1k go for them
WHAT IF I DONT LIKE THEM
the knuckles?
personally I have heard that out of oculus, valve, and htc
those wands are the worst controllers
only thing worse would be some of the WMR ones
uhm
should i trust valve for this
and spend 1k €
haha
also, do you know where can i find the space necesary for the sensors of valve? as rn i need to have it measured
The Index has really nice controllers in my opinion, they don't feel heavy in your hand or anything, like the Vive wands, as they are being supported by hand strap, which also means you can let go without dropping them. The joystick for movement is much better than using the trackpad (I can't stress this enough), and they don't have the big clunky piece at the top, so you're less likely to hit them together like in say, Beat Saber
As for the headset, if you're coming from a Vive (especially one with the deluxe audio headstrap), then the biggest difference is the sharpness of the display, with much less noticeable individual pixels. The display can still get dark enough to the point where you can almost forget that you're no longer using an OLED, in games like Elite Dangerous, or The Forest. The mic quality is also miles better, which is nice if you do calls frequently, or play games like VRChat. The audio is nice, but not a super noticeable jump, much like the field of view, which didn't make that much more of a difference IMO. The refreshrate by default is set to 90Hz, but setting it to 120Hz makes a fair enough difference in games like Beat Saber (in which you can actually hit 120FPS). So overall, I'd say the biggest jump are the controllers and the clarity. Whether that's worth $1,000 is up to you
I'd say the Index is still the better headset between the two. It's not just the controllers. The Index has much better lenses, slightly less screen door effect (although not much less), has more fluid animations and way better audio (both mic and headphones/speaker).
The only reason I see to go for the Vive Pro rather then the Index (HMD wise) is if you want to invest an extra 350-400 bucks on the Vive Wireless Adapter. It's actually pretty great if it wasn't for the tiny 2h battery life, and the included one takes like 4-5h to full charge back up again
imma hope the index gets a wirless thing someday haha
It's actually quite funny how most headsets that I own, just make me wish the Index had features that are special to said headsets. Like a version of the Index with 2160x2160 per eye resolution, the option to add a wireless adapter to a current Index. The only headsets that don't give me that feeling are my CV1 and Quest. Both are fine as they are...
The Index with a wireless adapter that is on the level of the HTC one, but that still retains the 144Hz refreshrate of the Index would be sick
Very difficult to do
I mean, other then the higher refreshrate, in terms of what needs to be transmitted, there's not much different between the two headsets. I don't know the resolution of the Vive Pro's passthrough cameras, but they both have 2...
does virtual desktop use similar compression to a link cable?
I thought that theoretically, low end hardware would perform better via virtual desktop than link because the whole reason lower end hardware doesn't work as well over link is because of the compression, but from my testing, the performance is just as bad when playing via VD, which makes me think there's more compression than I originally thought.
VD uses the same compression algorithm and stuff as Oculus does as it seems with the same bitrate and everything (on a good Wifi connection). Quest Link doesn't even saturate the USB 2.0 speed fully, because of limitations with the image decoding on the OG Quest (Quest 2 is a different Story)
where can i find people to play vr with btw hahaha
coz i just realized that i have no friends with vr kits
:cç
VRchat is the place to go. A lot of people who play that game are on Desktop, but most people playing VRC are interested in VR, and usually very enthusiastic about it
it's true, that is a staple
guys do you know if the vr netflix app is only avariable for oculus or also for other lenses?
It's neither on Steam nor on the Oculus Desktop app. Aka: no, it's only available for the Quest and Quest 2
idk why but virtual desktop looks a lot better to me than link
link looks more fuzzy than vd
even though link is running at a much higher resolution
Is it appropriate to ask here if anyone has been wanting a Valve Index? Not sure if that’s against the rules. I have one that I’ve refurbished with new components. Looking to sell it, as I know it can be a long wait with Valve right now. Just offering if anyone’s interested.
Where u from @opal orchid
USA
I'm excited to see what virtual CES has in store in terms of VR and AR.
Seems like so far Nolo has a rebrandable standalone VR headset, that they might show off.
link compresses the image to be able to send it through the cable with little latency. to make it look as clear or clearer than vd do this: https://virtualrealitybrisbane.com/the-oculus-test-update-link-allows-you-to-increase-the-bitrate/
Costco has the Vive Cosmos for $230 off lol
damn really
Dive into your creative space, immerse yourself in exciting worlds, and discover new ways to learn and stay active. VIVE Cosmos is the world's first VR system with a suite of versatile modular options.
Anyone else here ever encounter the glitch in HLA where ladders can sometimes cause you to clip through things?
any good recomendations for a 200 dollar used vr headset
For $200 your only real options are Windows MR and Quest 1, maybe an original Vive, but I doubt for that price it’d have sensors and whatnot included
um how do i watch 360 videos ?
it looks like youtbe app use to be a thing i can't find it any more
@low crater what your currency ?
in aud i got a Samsung odyssey plus amazing vr head set
hp mixed reality set for 200$ thoughts?
its so cool to see that there's more people actually excited for Vr
i really think its the future of gaming as it evolkving nowadays
i mean the hand and finger trackings are so fucking epic
btw how much tb do you think a vr rig needs to have all the vr games installed? im talking about 100 games or so haha. I was thinking about using the asus card for 4 SSD so i can have all the games in SSD's in a dedicated VR pc
A lot of lockdown and $200-$300 being reasonable, cause lets face it, some people spend that much on a gaming monitor, is bringing a lot of people into VR.
Just the idea that a 'mainstream' $400 $300 headset exists
wp
great news everyone it seems i might be getting the quest 2 soon
its been 41 days since i ordered it
the mail guy could have swam here lmao and delievered it in time
great bro
i just bought the vive pro full set im excited as fuck
let us know how it feels when you recieve it
Anyone have experience with oculus rift s and sim racing in asseto corsa? is the rift s worth it for sim racing or is a quest 2 better
@primal tapir the experience in the headset isn't super different between them honestly
Especially since you'll be using Link for that game
Quest 2 battery drains even while plugged in and using Link, just slower
So you can get I think 4 hours of pcvr gameplay
Vs the rift which has no battery limits
So if you only plan on playing racing sims and you only want oculus
I'd say go rift
Unless you have other games in mind and/or don't mind the battery limits (battery packs are also a thing) then go quest 2
However the best option for sims is probably the reverb g2 since it has the best resolution
Its weak point is its controllers/tracking which is no longer a factor when playing racing sims
Food for thought

You have to keep in mind that for the Quest 2 to be competitive in terms of comfort, a strap replacement is pretty much a necessity. So you do have to factor that in. Other then that, I can't really add anything to what Dream said...
headstrap replacement, some decent headphones, the link cable itself
costs add up quick for the quest
Why does the quest 2 with link look really bad?
guys do you know what happens if there are objects on the play space of the vive pro?
4 example if i have 2x2m but not planning to move (lets say im still all the game) i know its dangerous but will the game recognise a wardrobe for example?
guardrobe lol
The only Headset that can somewhat detect objects in the playspace is the Ques/Quest 2. And on both headsets, the object detection only runs during playspace setup. It's a pretty difficult task of detecting objects in the playspace, so Facebook has opted to not run the routine during gameplay for better game performance. For VR you want to have a large open space with nothing other then you in it
Cool
did oculus perfect the rift 2 sensor tracking
@snow bough Actually the vive pro can do it very well, but for some reason they don't implement it outside of dev features in stuff like unity.
Do you mean "rift s", or "Quest 2". There is no rift 2 yet.
The 2 Sensor Tracking only is really usable in a 180° setup
so it would work for beatsaber
Oh thats what Rias meant
Both cameras at the front, no further then 2m apart standing in parallel to each other. But then as long as you don't turn too much, it's actually pretty good. Almost as if you have a 3 camera setup
I think it works well for beat saber unless you are doing 90 or 360 degree maps
90° Maps only turn you about 45° in each direction. It should be usable with a 180° CV1 setup
so i should save some more money and get a 3rd sensor
i also plan on playing arizona sunshine
Absolutely. The 3rd sensor not just allows you to have a full on roomscale experience, but also improves the accuracy of the tracking
Having a third sensor is extremely useful in most games
i plan on getting it from ebay for about 200 dollars
A third sensor should not cost that much, unless your talking about a full rift kit.
For 200 bucks a backup CV1 set (full kit with 2 sensors and 2 controllers) is a decent price. The headset doesn't need to look the best, as long as it's fully functional. Then you got 4 cameras to play with. Absolutely useless if you have a playspace that fits in the Oculus recommendations (2.5x2.5m), but larger playspaces can benefit from a 4th camera...
A single CV1 sensor should not cost above 50 bucks
I agree with @haughty thistle about the prices, also the CV1 is still quite the good headset, especially at that price.
Honestly, i'd say getting a used quest 1 is better, after the quest 2 dropped prices on ebay are more than half the price it originally was
with virtual desktop or oculus link
its a pretty damn good headset
no messy cameras
how sad is that the guy that sold me the vive pro forgot to include the power supply for the box that conects to the pc XDDD
i need to wait 2 days to play lol
According to what my guy? I get about 1-2% per hour at worst on my quest 2 via link. And other times have noticed no discharge at all (I switch ports depending on my specific games needs)
Are you referring to with the link cable specifically because if so I suppose that's possible but no one in their right mind would buy the link cable if properly informed
@pastel echo according to my cousin who got one for christmas
And I'm not sure which cable
The battery drainage really depends on how much power the USB port can deliver, into which you have your Quest plugged into. On my PC after a 2h playsession on the Quest 1 with Quest Link I have about 60% battery left. Since the OG Quest is more power efficient, the Quest 2 would drain quicker with my System. I use the USB 3.1 Type-A port on my Asus ROG Z370-F Motherboard
Honestly in my experience, the Image looks cleaner and more readable on the CV1 (even with the higher amount of SDE), the Tracking is much better in both accuracy and tracking volume and the Controllers on the CV1 are on my ranking of controller comfort on the top, even beating out the Index ones by a slight margin
Standard USB 3 spec is 0.9A
Besides, the CV1 feels a lot more comfortable out of the box
Wasn't it 0.8A with overhead recommended?
i had a cv1 for 2 years, imo quest 1 is a way bigger improvement
controllers were a downgrade
but everything else

Somewhere around there, yeah. Point being you'd need a fast charging 3.0 port to keep the battery alive
For me the CV1 is a much better PCVR headset then the Quest 1. But then again, I use my CV1 with 4 cameras to cover my whole 3.5x2.5 playspace (larger then the Oculus recommended maximum of 2.5x2.5m for 3 cameras)
From what I can tell, you'd need at least a 2A port in order to stop the Quest 2 from dying
My laptop has 3.0 2A ports, which are great. Though it isn't as common on desktop boards
3.2 Gen 2 can do 5A though. So if you have it, put the Quest link cable there
also if you use the vr link or whatever it was called on your gpu
the usb c port on the 20 series
I really like my Rift S now that I got my VR optician prescription lenses in it
I wonder what my upgrade should be though
I doubt my 1070Ti could push 144FPS in VR for the index 🤔 but then something better than the index may come out down the line
Rift S prolly the move for as long as you got a 1070Ti
so bad news, it looks like I won't be able to play VR again anytime soon after all. I got excited cause B&H said my 3070 would be here this week, but there hasn't been so much as a single change to the order since I placed it, which makes me think it will be here later rather than sooner. I've heard some people say their shipping takes as long as three months, which means there's a chance I won't be playing HLA again until mid april. sadface
Benefit to being 6' tall is my arm span is 6' since most games require a 6'x6' play space it's pretty easy to make sure I have enough space
Downside is the oculus quest 2 stationary boundary is smaller than my arm span so I constantly activate it if I use it
There is not much about standalone VR to talk about, besides well, the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2. Oculus kind of created and grew this category of VR by itself, and created kind of a Monopoly. But things seem likely to change very soon, many new standalone headsets are coming out, and 2021 will be for sure an interesting year for VR.
So l...
So I'm having some major issues getting my Quest 2 to not be blurry. I've already set it to the least blurry of the 3 IPD settings, but the only way I could find to make it even less blurry is to firstly remove the glasses spacer even though I use glasses, but also make the strap so tight that it actually hurts my forehead a lot. What on earth can I do???
were to watch 360 videos ?
there a lot of them it would be fun to have a go 😛
Yeah I don’t know why oculus made the stationary boundary so small
I find it pretty annoying too
nooope
Maybe it will get better later on but the cable for the Valve index is really annoying.
its enough to make me consider getting one of those wireless options
Set up pulleys so cable isn't at your feet?
vaulted ceiling in living room so it would be a weird option for sure.
might try to run clotheslines and pullies
Microsoft has done one thing good :p the edge browser can watch 360videos in vr woop woop
At least you don't need an account to use the headset. Nor does the companion software (WMR) draw much system resources when SteamVR is active (unlike Oculus Home)
is it possible to buy the wall mounts for basestations seperately, cause these stands are really getting annoying
There are aftermarket ones. The Lighthouses use a standard camera mount, so anything that can mount a camera can mount a lighthouse
nice
The mounts that come with the Valve and HTC lighthouses are not sold seperatly afaik...
anyone have any tips on how to reduce blurriness on the ques 2, or any headset really? I woke up yesterday and all day it was just a lot blurrier than the day before idk why
tried using a microfiber cloth and wiping in circles
maybe i could get a lens pen or put in eyedrops or something lol
I think ur lenses may be scratched
just checked with my phone's flashlight and there aren't any major scratches but there are a lot of those "micro scratches"
like if you have a countertop and you turn on the lights you can kind of see like a swirly pattern in lines in it
i see a bit of that
@thick nest I think I still have time to return it to bestbuy, maybe that would be better then just get a new one
for some reason when i got it in october they made the return period like 3 months
maybe i can ask to exchange it, once i bought headphones that were bad and they just gave me another box
:/
maybe they can order one and i can get it replaced when they go back in stock or something
Yeah, there's a good chance unless it's through an RMA process that you won't get a new Quest 2 within January
According to Facebook, the Quest 2 is sold out till Feburary 2021...
i mean i still want to use it but i'm just afraid if i wait past the return date then i won't be able to get a new one
so glad I got quest 2 for christmas instead of my birthday
my birthday is in January 😐
im so glad usps didnt lose mine and actually found it
Hmm? I just ordered a quest 2 off Amazon and it says delivery on the 17-23rd
here's hoping it ships
cringe
bestbuy says they won't let me exchange it until they have them in stock, and they won't hold one so basically if they don't have them by january 30th (my refund end date) then i'm screwed
kinda doubt oculus would do anything about it
Just refund it?
quest 2 and a usb c cable, or a used CV1 or Vive. if you have a bit more and can wait, for 450, the decagear headset which looks promising is coming soon.
i would say less than 15% chance that the decagear would release at it's advertised $450
that's just... insane
Isn't that the one with a cost break down?
I low key want it but I have a quest 2 and with link and VD it's hard justifying buying a PC headset
is there a way to turn in windows vr with out turning ?
some games don't have a feature were you can use the joy sticks to turn with ?
If the game doesn't support it pretty sure you can't do it
well some games support were if you turn around it works fine but they have no way to turn with out having to be standing
yeah, I need a new cpu right now
Supposedly the deca headset will have the ability to do wireless PCVR as well
hm
Where do I get this benchmark I'm curious
Guess I'm not ready for the future 🤷♂️
Guess I'll be okay for now though
I wonder if I'm okay for future
I'm gonna fight superposition for daring to suggest I have a max-q
I have a max-p the audacity to imply otherwise
@spice veldt you really do need a new CPU
Damn yo computer gonna play the rift longer than the rift is gonna be alive haha
Wont be a problem if it's gotta rift haha
My tests are from my gaming laptop
It runs Oculus Link just fine and maybe some day a Deca headset if they're good
Yeah I got the rift because of the inside out tracking
my room is just too big for lighthouses
Oooooh rift s
How the heck is your room too big for lighthouses
the cables are too short
and I don't want to have them sitting in the middle of the room
Also i started typing that before you sent the dimensions
30 foot diagonal be a little too big for lighthouses I guess haha
yeah lol
If this deca gear thing is what they claim it will be you could get it set up with wireless which would be pretty baller for your set up
Yeah hopefully
I'm gonna get a free router that I'm gonna use exclusively for wireless VR with my quest 2
but at the same time since I have a laptop I'm debating building an airflow backpack and just doing that
I feel that
https://imgur.com/a/Y1iaP8z here's what microscratches i was talking about look like if you didn't know
not mine btw
idk if it really made it more blurry or if there's oil on there that a microfiber cloth doesn't get off or what...
ordered a lens pen that should be here by tuesday so maybe that'll help
you can get out micro scratches @harsh niche
:0
idk if your talking about replacing them cause of it
yeah I was
there's a stuff called polywatch that can buff them out super easy
Today I will be conducting a torture test on the Oculus Quest 2 and the Elite Battery Headstrap. I'm going to do my best to replicate real life scenarios to see just how robust this headset is. Drop tests, lens scratch tests, controller tests, and of course.. putting it into a dryer. So, does the Quest 2 survive?
My links:
2nd Channel and Meetu...
this video shows it
oh yeah i was looking at that stuff
but i didn't know if it would work on marks that small
lmao
i also heard that stuff can get rid of the anti-glare coating, do you know if that could be a problem?
don't they have 2 different kinds? the normal polywatch for plastic and then the polywatch "polish" for glass n stuff
oh
weird
there's more than one type but idk if that's the kinds
ye
omfg
what type of speakers will the deca gear have
like those on the quest right?
in the band
looks like it yeah
swap em
you cant
wear headphones
or that
the valve index ones have those jacks theyre not like headphones headphonss
have you tried wearing headphones with a vr headset on?
yes
is it uncomfortable
not really
not at all
only problem is when bending over because sometimes they might fall off
lmao
i use my beats earbuds now though with those little in ear ring things that keep them in
I have a better headset than the index ones
route them down the middle of the headband with a velco strap thing, then they come down right to my ears, 0 dangling wires
do you have latency issues when playing beat saber?
no lol they're wired
ohh lol
i wanted to try with my airpods pro but for some reason on my pc whenever i pair them they cut out constantly even while i'm sitting 2 feet away
yeah latency would probably be terrible
btw dont get the galaxy buds ogs cus theyre very incomfortable and also have a problem at high volumes
.
like idk if its only mine but they do weird noises whenever im listening to rock on high volume
i think its like treble
why doesnt it happen on my pc headset
it's a headset, the speakers are bigger cause they don't have to fit in your ear
so they can get louder
oh makes sense
so like between a headset with 50mm drivers and 53 youd choose 53
?
depends
you can have a high quality 50mm and a shit quality 53mm
trust the brand not the size
quest tracking be like
Reminds me of how the Vive Cosmos Tracking is xD
If you have a last gen quest than tracking will be appauling
but the same can't be said about the quest 2
tracking is usually fine
its when the battery gets to like 50%
sometimes
its really weird
any tips on how to reduce “wobble” in tracking? like would more lights help or things on the walls
on quest?
i dont see why that would help
I didn't buy them just to light up my room
Well rather than being a normal bulb and having it shine everywhere its very concentrated
being able to record in 4k just on my quest is awesome
for me i had tracking issues playing beat saber where the batteries unseat themselves
but just make sure that the controllers are charged and the lights are on
Afaik Tracking on the Q2 is basically the same as on the Q1. The Quest 2 uses the same 4 cameras as the OG Quest was already using
The problem with worse tracking on low battery is a known issue for WMR where at like less then 20% battery life or with 1.2V batteries the tracking is negatively impacted. But it's new for me to hear that on the Oculus controllers
that hurts
it does
I dropped out of global top 300 cause my tracking died at the end of a song but still passed
whats your rank
last time I checked around 1700, it's been awhile since I've touched the game
nice
i gotta sleep now
sleep well
thx
uhhh I think thats broken
my quest never did that
and I was quite the hardcore player with it
Just bought a rift s and regret it so much lol, I mean, I have a pc but quest 2 resolution is so much better, even using link...
Rift s is great tho
@sly folio FNAF player KEKW
I want to get ryzen 9 5950x, but cant find any 😦
@late fern there isn't that huge of a difference between them imo
I've tried both
cousin's quest 2 vs my own rift s
don't feel bad about buying it, it's a great little thing
really comfy
resolution is fine
tracking is just as good, if not better than the quest 2
has an extra camera
dde
i cant see netflix on vr desktop
it's just black instead of the film lol
while in the monitor i can't see the film
anti piracy
Yeah, you have to use a Browser that forces Netflix in SD quality. I don't know if Firefox since has added Netflix HD support, but it's something you can try
Otherwise, the Quest has a native Netflix app, and on WMR you can pull the Windows 10 Netflix app into your WMR Home environment
The PC Oculus and SteamVR headsets have no way of showing Netflix content in HD, unless you find some piracy tools that circumvent the Netflix Anti-Piracy measures
Or just, watch Netflix on your tv and take that box off your face
Why's that? I have both and the Rift S has its place over the Quest 2.
The only real drawback to the Rift S in my opinion is its somewhat poor compatibility with SteamVR. I wish they would do something about the image stuttering issues.
quest 2 just has better specs and you can go wireless so that's probably why
kick this man outta here!!!
Laying down I do not have a TV on my ceiling
oculus stopped supporting the rift s like a year ago, and now that it's EOL they won't support it at all.
@pastel echo finally might be able to pickup my quest in the next few days
we got a few friends at the customs to help us out they say they'll be checking the facilities for it and when they know where it is we can pick it up
Freaking sick
I see I have upset some people
2 months but finally FINALLY
i wont be leaving it alone
and i will probably not sleep that day
Is there a game where you can pretty much build a pc in vr
Like if I was able to see how big a pc really is
Aaa
Just someone dm me about it
dude
every pc part has dimensions writen in the description
lol
just finished a killer pc build, still waiting on a 3080 tho
ive got my heart set on the 3080FE and nobody can stop me
What headsets do you all recommend at each price point?
Like $0-300, $300-600, $600-1000
What do you want @late relic
Does a usb 3.0 cable makes a lot of difference for the original quest link? Got a 3.1 port but the cable vendor scammed me and it's not a 3.0 cable but 2.0 should i spend a fortune on another long usb cable and hope for the best?
If I recall correctly, the original Oculus Quest recommended a minimum of a USB-3.0 cable. I have a 15 foot USB 3.1 cable I got off of amazon for like $20. As for your question as to if it makes a difference, USB 3.0 cables are able to send data from your PC's GPU much faster then a USB-2.0 cable, which can have a big impact on performance.
Another thing you may want to try is using the included charging cable to run the Oculus Quest via Link. As far as I know, they released a update making the Original Quest run on basically any USB cable that's fast enough.
My friend who has a Gen-1 Quest says it works, so I'd try it out.
That cable is also 2.0... but what I meant to ask is if the picture quality is noticeably different cause I've heard it's compressed AF in usb 3 as well...
So I'm not gonna bother getting a proper cable to get essentially the same shit
the 2 feet cable? lol
My friend just used an extension cable with the included charging cable and apparently it worked, though for my quest I just bought a 3rd party USB 3.0 cable and I haven't had any issues whatsoever.
Honestly, I think just getting anything 3.0 or higher cable wise will give you a good experience. It does look a bit "pixelated", but you can crank some graphics settings in certain apps like Steam VR and make it look pretty darn good (of course, you'll need a really good PC to do so.)
Well I'll see if I can get a long 3.0 cable shipped here then... Fuck amazon for not shipping here anymore
^ You can check out info about the Link Cable here too, it'll tell you what kind of specs and whatnot you'll need for it.
So does ray tracing affect VR?
coz that could be the question to answer to get a 3080 for VR XD
medal of honor of vr is fun but super laggy and the requirements are ridiculous
how did i fuck up my words that bad
I'm just making an educated guess here tbh... Ray tracing is so expensive even for 3090s so i doubt running that for vr is even an option right now.. especially cause for vr higher resolutions are critical..
Pog
How is that gonna be controllable
they show off the wrench for a second in the video with the valve controller
Unless you ask NASA if they have a spare super-computer, I highly doubt Ray Tracing will be implemented into Virtual Reality for many years.
On the OG Quest there is no difference on both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 speed as the actual SOC limits the decoding to like 150Mbit/s. On the Quest 2, the current quality limit is at 500Mbit/s. Since that's over the 180Mbit/s limit of USB 2.0, you'd obviously need a USB 3.0 cable to improve the visual fidelity...
For under 300 bucks only used VR headsets like the Rift CV1 or one of the initial WMR headsets. If you can find one for this price, an OG Vive is also a pretty decent option as you can upgrade to the Index without having to Rebuy everything in one go.
For 300-600 bucks there's only really one option: The Quest 2. That plus an Elite Strap, the official Link cable and a good set of headphones and you're pretty much set. Then again, you have to sell your soul to Facebook to use the headset tho.
Between 600 and 1k you get 3 options, depending on what you're more interested in: The Reverb G2 at 700 bucks is the cheapest in this category. Due to its high resolution screens it's really good for Simulation games, but due to it's sadly rather bad controllers pretty much just for that.
The Vive Pro allows for an Upgrade path up to fully wireless compromise-free PCVR. But at 1k for a full set (without wireless adapter) and basic Vive Wands it gets pretty expensive if you really want a good experience out of this.
Lastly the Index at 1k for a full set is the unbeaten King in what you get in total and for the price. It has the same resolution as the Vive Pro, but with less SDE, higher refreshrate and a larger FOV
^ Keep in mind that the higher resolution you want in a HMD (Head Mounted Device) the better GPU & CPU you'll need, though it's more GPU bound then CPU bound. So factor that into your budget if you don't already have a good rig. I'll provide what I'd recommend GPU wise for each headset.
Original Oculus CVI/OG Vive - GTX 1050 TI
Oculus Quest 2 - GTX 1050 TI/1060 (whichever is cheaper), (It has a lower screen resolution if I recall correctly, so you won't need a 1060 to run it.)
Reverb G2 - GTX 1070 TI+ (Never used or read into the G2, however I assume it's high res so I put a good GPU for this one.)
Valve Index - RTX 2060 (You will honestly need a 20 series card or higher to run it at good frames. My friend has an Index and uses a 1060, and it barely runs at playable frame-rates at lowest settings possible.)
I've personally run a GTX 1050 TI with the CV1 & Original Oculus Quest and it runs both perfectly fine, however as the 1050 ti is almost identical in price to a 1060, I'd just buy one of those. I got a 1050 ti cause my prebuilt system had a crappy 380 watt psu and can't handle a 1060.
I'd say the Quest 2 should be at least put on the same requirement as the Index. The actually rendered resolution is in fact higher on the Quest/Quest 2 compared to the Index so in real world performance, the Quest/Quest 2 have even higher requirements
Also of note is that the Index runs pretty well on a 1080Ti at 100 resolution and 144Hz. So something with that class of performance is pretty much required if you want to make full use of the Index
However, if you decide to run the Index on a lower class card, turning down the Refreshrate isn't much of a loss in my honest opinion. You still get the benefit of the nice speakers, high FOV and best comfort in a consumer VR set
yeah quest 2 has higher res screens and you need a lot more overhead for the encoding n stuff
HMD with both inside out and outside tracking WHEN
G2 +Knuckles, while usable, is not even close to an ideal setup. I've used it before, but the headset and Controllers keep drifting from each other. Not when you move the controllers, no, only when you move your head is when the controllers seem to drift sometimes. You will not have that problem when both HMD and controllers are tracked Outside-In
Besides that, it's cheaper to get an Index FK then to get a G2, a pair of Index controllers and a pair of Lighthouses (the latter totals somewhere above 1.3k)
Sometimes I want outside tracking for a good immersive experience other times I'm on the go and inside out is fine
It'd be nice if one day a headset could offer that flexibility
For me it's not having the option to switch, but rather that people with not much playspace not having to choose between smaller playspace and a good headset or a bad headset and more playspace
I bet we'll get it in a few years
made by facebook
Probably not. Facebook has shown time and time again that they have no interest anymore in making VR good. All they care about at this point is to get as many people on their Platform as possible and locking them in, so they won't switch
Facebook are only into vr to scoop people into having more fb accounts
If there's a company out there that would make a Hybrid headset both capable of Inside-Out and Outside-In Tracking, then it is Valve.
Or some kickstarter
What happened to all those
There used to be a new headset like every week
Oh wait no. The Vive Cosmos already has the option to switch between Inside-Out and Outside-In. Just that it's Inside-Out tracking sucks...
Honestly part of me wishes I hadn't tasted the sweetness of outside tracking via cv1 because now inside out tracking feels off on Quest 2
Not enough consumer interest, too high initial investment to bring an HMD to market, the VR market evolving quicker then Kickstarters can develop their products, etc
facebook makes what seems to be the best wireless vr experience atm
and their headset is by far the best affordable headest
At least someone understands why I'm a firm believer Inside-Out is not the future of VR
inside out is absolutely the future of vr
My beatsaber and super hot VR skills I learned relied a lot on grabbing and slicing stuff I couldn't see
people care way more about ease of use than slightly better tracking
Inside out is the future of mainstream VR and hopefully with optional outside in tracking for additional cost
You can guess why. Because they need to provide as many arguments as possible to get people to choose their product, while also keeping it cheap AF
I fully expect inside out to be practically indistinguishable from outside in by like, 2030 or something
I'd pay $200 for some type of base station for using my quest 2 oculus link no questions asked
well yeah, that's how business works
The biggest issue with Inside-Out in my opinion is that it requires room detail to work. While my room already has tons of furniture around, I do still have issues with Inside-Out headsets occasionally loosing tracking when I look down. Even in the H2 with it's sideways facing cameras
Not when you're litterally selling the product for less then it would cost to develop and recoup the price by locking people in. That's just anti-competitive and anti-consumer if you ask me
glances nervously at game consoles
or like, shaving razors
The thing is, those are well established markets with millions of users. VR is still an establishing market. It's not a good look into the future if it already starts out this anti-consumer right from the get-go...
Saying that I'm not happy on how Facebook is handling the VR market is a gross understatement
you need a headset, which is hundreds of dollars, and then a PC, which is also at least hundreds of dollars
facebook makes a VR experience you can get into for $300
do I hate them as a company? definitely
but I can't deny that they have by far the most accessible VR
The thing is tho: this price will scare other companies away from making products
