"van" something is certainly from Belgium or Netherlands
unless they accidently misspelled it
but...
Sure
But these two countries are really connected in cultures/names so it could be a guy from there
belgium is closer to france tho
anyway, to far off topic, soz
Different languages tho but yeah off topic
Gotta love ifixit. Was able to replace my broken adjustable headset on my valve index in 20 minutes with ifixit replacement kit, and it was only $120.
The $60 i spent on the pro tech toolkit was one of the best $60 ive ever spent
Mine has disassembled more laptops in the time I've had it than I can count
Oh the kit wasn't the actual tools, (I have an old school ifixit kit) it was the headset strap itself and instructions
Nice
Would be cool to see HL 1 and 2 in VR with the same interface
Like the hands pocket ect
already a couple hl 1 vr projects out
Let's hope valve approves it
they won't care, they didn't mind when people did it with HL 1
you can get that installed natively on a quest by sideloading

Today I discovered a new Camellia song.
Half way in two tries and now I need a break.
I require assistance
My right index controller is fully charged but I'll go to turn it on, it'll do the power on beep, the light will turn blue for a second, then it'll just immediately do the power off beep and shut off
Ok so if I plug it into a power source and then turn it on, it will track and work fine, but as soon as I disconnect it from the charger, it'll turn off. But there's no red LED to signify the battery being dead, it only shows a blue LED when first powered on, a green one when connected, and white one when plugged into anything but not turned on, signifying that it's fully charged. So idk what to do
Welp, I went to turn the controller on and it immediately turned off again, but this time it flashed a red LED which means the battery is dead now, when earlier today, when I plugged it in, the light was white (?)
So it somehow went from saying it was fully charged whenever I plugged it in, to saying it's dead when I turn it on, despite me not having used it at all. I've got it plugged in now
What is the best VR headset for ps4? I live in NZ and am buying in NZD
The only option is the one made by sony. Ive never used it but ive heard its not worth it
If you dont wanna buy a pc, grab a quest or quest 2
PS4 only supports the original PSVR. It ain't the greatest tho
How would people rate the G2? I hate the quest 2 just because it's Facebook and is no longer related to oculus even though Facebook is using their fucking branding and it makes me so mad.
And also because I hate Facebook's guts.
The G2 is a decent headset. It's controllers leave a bit to be desired for Games like VRChat (as it lacks touch sensitivity on the buttons and stick), but it's otherwise (imo) better then the Quest for PCVR
Hit up steam support. They sent me a replacement when I had stock drift issues, and I just sent the old one back.
From reviews I've seen, the "best" headset to get for each price range goes Quest 2 -> G2 -> Pimax 5K. I've seen reviews that think (aside from the less accurate head tracking) the G2 is better than the Index
also steam has surprisingly good support
What controllers should I get then? (Since I'll be using steam for any games.)
(the only other VR game I'll be playing is just Roblox. Well, 'vr'.)
The only alternatives for the G2 are as follows:
- the original WMR controllers (which suck even more really, but at least have a touch pad, so game compatibility is the same as the OG Vive Wands)
- the OG Vive Wands (just sticks with a touchpad, trigger and a grip button; great for beatsaber, too limited for anything else)
- Index Controllers (best VR controllers out there right now; cost about the same as Vive Wands)
The latter two options require additional hardware to use tho. You'd need two watchmen dongles (one for each controller) to use them wirelessly (there a numerous options out there from relatively cheap to convenient like the Tundra SW Dongle) and you need at least a pair of Lighthouses (which are about 300$ a pair). All in, if you get such a setup, you're probably exceeding the price of the Index, but at least you're getting better screens, a sharper image, a lighter & more comfortable headset at the cost of price and convenience.
As the G2 doesn't support Lighthouse tracking, you'd need to sync it with the Index controllers everytime you fire up the G2 or put it down for a few minutes. It's tedious, but imo worth it. If set up correctly, the G2 can give you a better experience then the Index
That makes sense. Ill probably use the Index controllers If they aren't too expensive. How much are they rn?
Also are the baystations a need for the index controllers?
Yes, the Index controllers need the base stations to function. A pair of them costs 300$ so roughly the same as a pair of lighthouses
D'oh....
Should I just get the vive and later get the G2 Headset by itself? Cuz at that point it would be cheaper to do that.
It's about $240 for both controllers.
And $400 for two of the ones from 2018.
Each base station is 130 so it's $260......
so yeah it's cheaper to just get the full thing for the 2018 vive 2 pro and then later get the G2.
or I could probably just buy 2 basestations and valve controllers instesead for about the same price.
Nvm about valve controllers. Can't even find 2 together anyway.
VR Games Handle Valve Index Knuckles VR Controllers Steam H-TC Vive/Vive Pro (Color : A Pair Controller) https://a.co/d/4XOeRLE I mean I found this but $1000 for both?!
And how come the right controller is more than the left?!
It would be better to buy them first party. On steam itself, there are listings straight from valve for all of the index's components. I'm pretty sure they even sell a pair of controllers slightly discounted over buying two singles (Each are $150 each vs. a pair being $280)

$279.00
THATS WAY Better than on Amazon!
Holy heck!
Base stations are still more expensive or about the same price though
The best part is I can just use steam giftcards too.
anyone have any suggestions on a vr headset
I use the Rift S and are pretty happy with it. Not the fanciest one you can find but it's good enough for roomscale games. 😄 Only downside with it is it uses DisplayPort instead of HDMI. 😉
Def not the quest 2 since I don't support Facebook. A good alternative is the G2, although the controllers do suck.
I'm very happy with my index, depending on your situation because $1k for a VR system isn't nothing.
I feel like Valve will come out with an upgrade next year though....maybe, and it's unclear if you can use existing parts and just swap the headset or not....
I didn't want to buy anything facebook realted to @mental cove's point
As long as you use the base stations you can use any steam controllers with any headset.
Yea that's what i'm hoping for because i'd love wireless headset
and upgraded lenses
That includes weird configurations such as the G2 And index controllers.
The main downside is the tethered headset. But valve has excellent customer service, and they take care of you when things happen.
(^)
Cheaper than anywhere else ngl.
So it's technically a near-$700 headset you paid for.
Wait no
$500.
Cuz baystations
Correct. The headset is $500.
Yes you can. Or last time I looked l, you could
Not on Amazon. Mabye from HP.
$600 for it with both controllers on Amazon.
I know both controllers ain't more than $50.
Then again I can get the headset with controllers rn on Newegg for $400 soooo..
I'm pretty sure that link to the HP page comes with controllers as well
Not that it makes a difference, the newegg listing is also straight from HP
"hp-reverb-g2-virtual-reality-headset"
And if you look at the actual listing it only says anything about the headset and only shows pictures for just the headset so
It's just for the headset.
The package contents say otherwise
Both the newegg listing and the HP listing have the same package contents, and both of them say the controllers are included. It would be kind of weird (and maybe grounds for a false advertisement suit) to say that a package includes controllers and then just not include them.
But it only lists the headset on the actual page?!?
Wait did you click the link above?
It should only come with the power adapter, display cables and headset.
Yeah..-
Another thing is though it's only advertising the actual headset. Why would they include the controllers if your only trying to buy the headset from them.
Yes. Under the photos, click specs, then scroll down to technical details, then further below that there should be something that says 'what's in the box' and it says it includes two motion controllers.
Why would they sell the headset + controllers on newegg for the same price they're selling just the headset for on their website
Because Newegg pricing stuff differently? Idk.
I can't click 'see all specs' though because I'm on mobile.
This is everything it says under the tab in question. I have no idea why the newegg listing has the controllers in the photos and the HP website doesn't, but outside of the photos, both listings have the exact same documentation and price
Why am I just now finding out about the Reverb G2 Omnicept Edition
Same what's the difference
HOLY CRAP
So much is the DAMN DIFFERENCE
Atleast with the headset.
Do they have better controllers?
It's like 3x the price but includes face tracking, eye tracking, and a whole bunch of other stuff I could never hope of using efficiently I guess. As far as I can tell it's the same controllers with a seriously upgraded HMD
HMD?
Head mounted display. Fancy way of saying 'the headset' when you're only referring to the actual part that goes on your head itself.
It's supposed to only be $500, idk where the hell you got $~900-1200 from
(^)
I just happened upon it while probing around the HP website earlier
The omnicept is only supposed to be $500 what the hell
Yeah no
I'll stick to the reg G2 and upgrade it by getting the reverb controllers with valve's base stations.
Even if it's a worse price I can always spread out how much I'm spreading by doing that instead.
I'm planning on getting my sister a reverb to replace her old headset soon. If she lets me test it out and I end up liking the visuals enough there's a chance I'll buy one for myself
I'd suggest getting the G2 though.
It's SO much better than the regular reverb.
FOV sucks on it though, apparently.
I'll keep that in mind. Unfortunately, before I go buying any new VR hardware, I need to buy new fans for my computer. The fan hub I have is proprietary and it crapped out recently, so all my fans stopped working. So I've gotta prioritize getting that fixed
I was looking at the new lian LI infinity fans, but I don't know if I wanna spend $250 on fans lol
Then again ones like the silentwings 3 in 120 are like only $22/fan and I think the ones in 140's are only $140/fan.
$24*
I badly messed that up
Dear God 💀
The infinity fans are $30/fan and have some pretty cool effects. Plus you only need one cable per group instead of having individual cables for each fan, so it helps with cable management. They're pretty cool
I only need to spend like $60 total on fans lemme count how many fans I need for my custom PC again
Vrb
Brb*
Ok it was 3 120's and 3 140's.
So that's like...
$120.
In other news, I do not in fact have to get my right index controller replaced like I thought I did. I fully discharged, recharged, and paired it to my computer again and it started working regularly. I played for about half an hour earlier and nothing went wrong so that's a relief
I need 7 120s I think. My case really doesn't like 140s. My old one did though
Oh. That sucks a lot.
Welp it's 5am here, I don't have work tomorrow but I should probably go to bed anyway. I'll figure out what to do about my fans tomorrow
Mk. Cya.
You guys got any new games to recommend me ?
By new i mean anything from the last 3 months
Just a few words on the Omnicept Edition:
HP apparently couldn't manage to make a model for the Face Tracker, so they just ended up only exposing the face camera through the API. As of right now, it's just a bulky addition with no use. The built-in Eye Tracking of the G2 Omnicept does work, but I'm unsure about the features it's offering. If it's anything like other B2B offerings (the Omnicept is meant for business customers, not consumers), then it'll likely only have the bare minimum for those customers (aka only Gaze & pupil size, no eye lid data, etc.). I don't know if the current version of the public SDK exposes the HR sensor. I do remember that for a while the Omnicept SDK was only available through an expensive subscription, but they have released a public SDK not too long ago...
the oculus quest 2 is so bloated in functionality, its like oculus (now meta) tried to cram so many features that it couldnt handle, like for example, passthrough, passthrough is just using the IR tracking sensors for a camera signal. the FOV is so bad infact, sometimes i think i left on my narrow glasses on while playing vr.
Tf are you on?
im not on anything 🙂
The features it has works perfectly.
Then you have a malfunctioning unit, mine works perfectly.
went through 2 pairs
That's not oculus's fault.
i got launch day quest
And?
theres no issues except tracking and controller life
the longevity is questionable
As I said before, you then might have a malfunctioning unit.
ive brought it up with oculus, got my headset REPLACED and it still is doing the same thing
Bro, my friends and I have never experienced such an issue, all our headsets work perfectly fine.
isnt it a coincidence? that i got 2 broken headsets? never going meta again
idk if its a coincidence in this case, dude's always wanted everything in the world to be his, lel
im now #teamsteam
Ha! Good luck with their support.
its called using steamvr, im using g2
steam support is actually amazing
tf u on about
iv had my controllers and cable replaced free out of warranty after 3 year of owning
Yep same.
Steam support has paid for itself a few times over. I would NOT trust Facebook or HP to provide support without going through hurdles.
like just dont give bullshit reason to steam support and they will help you
i litteraly said when i created my ticket that my cable was worn from use and started showing statics artifacts and they shipped me a new one
Quest 2 controllers are acting again
I got my new quest 2 brand new a month ago and after 50 hours or so of playing my right controller is making a strange noise
When the controller vibrates it rattles and makes a noticeable amount of noise
😅
I’ve had the Quest 2 for about 10 days and my controller started buzzing really loudly.
Like this
I think I solved this either by smacking it against a semi-hard surface or just fucking with the battery slot
Solve at your own risk lol
What do y'all think about the new blade and sorcery U11 update ?
It's alright but got so confused when I tried to find the map to get into a game
Does anyone know what the smallest vr is?
I remember seeing these glasses
That look like a little bulky set of normal glasses
But they are VR goggles
those?
the quest 2 pro and the pico neo 4 are both out soon? and will have pancake lens designs so quite a bit slimmer then past vr headsets.
pico neo 4 and the quest pro look very similar
There are two headsets (either announced or released) that for that description:
The Vive Flow and the ShiftAll MeganeX
The latter is actually a more refined and more release ready version of the headset that Whelm posted earlier
found some very creepy image of the Vive Flow, please no
#TotallyNotPhotoshopped
vive flow still looks stupid tho
(tho looks kinda nice when not actually in use and flipped up)
same as ski goggles tho
other image
YES!
"Vive flow 2 Pro ES"
Pog
I don't like how the graphics changed, they are better but it forces me to run it at low preset where before i could run at medium, so now it looks worse and runs worse...
I found them, its the Nreal AR glasses
Yeah, but those aren't VR. They're AR
What gpu do you have? I was playin u11 on my 2070 and it ran better than it did before for me
Ah I see
Surprised it even worked at all (considering anything older then RX400 isn't officially supported by Meta)
they're pretty cool but the image is just not that big. i don't think it's a worthwhile replacement for an ultra wide monitor + laptop screen for productivity
and they don't actually have pass through/tracking cameras for AR
Hmm
Would be cool if in the future the glasses could lock tabs in real space
So that the tabs hover in a specific point
Then you no longer need another monitor
I think that was the idea someday. but this doesn't really have that capability so it's only useful in a narrow range of situations imo
there's another model that does some more cool things but I'm not allowed to talk about that yet :-P
What headset specifically do you have? The Reverb G2 needs to have it's power supply connected to the breakout box near the PC end of the cable for it to work at all
For other headsets, a common fault can be that the USB port just simply doesn't supply enough power...
can someone help me i tried downloading the oculus app on my pc but each time it finishes downloading it says error restart your computer and even if i do it doesnt work all my drivers are up to date and windows is too
and an oculus staff member was trying to solve it for like 2 hours
I had this problem too
Solution was to disable driver signature enforcement, install the software, then enable it again
looks so dumb
I have quite a question
I found an xbox 360 kinect and found out it can be used for full body tracking in vr
The question is how to use it with vtubing software for arm tracking?
Tried to google it and found no definite answer
I heard Facebook accounts will not be supported anymore shortly by oculus, and i have one linked to Facebook, what should I do ?
And is it very urgent ?
I believe it's not that they wont support FB accounts, it's just that they'll allow people to make Meta accounts instead of forcing you to make FB accounts. I could be wrong though
Either way, it's not urgent.
it's just a rebrand. they think people are stupid enough to fall for the whole "we heard you don't like having to use a Facebook account, so now you have to use a meta account which is somehow better"
doesn't change anything about the tracking/EULA and doesn't change anything about how you use the headset
So i don't have to do anything ?
Don't worry, your data will be safely stored on publicly sold pages just like it was before.
How are all the hot singles in my area supposed to find me if they don't have access to all my personal information amirite
urite
So my next paycheck is either going to be spent on SSDs or lian li fans. But then, the paycheck after that is gonna be entirely used for buying my sister a Reverb G2, now that I know that they only cost $400 nowadays. I was under the impression that they were still $600 but both newegg and HP's website appear to have them listed brand new for $400 which is a big help
can u please help me i dont know how to do that
would this be the thread to share a youtube of my buddy playing Pistol Whip pretty well?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTLj4TFiaUw There he is, ruining the scoreboard for the rest of us
Second level of the new Pistol Whip Campaign.
Single Pistol only on Hard with Bullet Hell modifier. "Pistol Hell"
Recorded on a Valve Index.
I'm gonna be making and selling my own version of SlimeVR FBT trackers called Lilypads with 3d printed cases. My main color is gonna be a semi-transparent dark green, what other colors should I offer?
right
man i'm still pissed with Q2 price hike
idk what other PCVR headset at the same price that isn't shit
Well, now the lower capacity Q2 and the HP reverb G2 are the same price I'm pretty sure
Yeah it's $400 on both newegg and HP's website, which is the same as the new Q2 base price I'm pretty sure
Q2 old price was just right in my price bracket
now i'm basically outpriced out of the only decent headset at 300$
3rd party sellers and used sellers already caught wind of the jump and also increased their prices
or i need to go for the 64 GB model which i heard from many is just not enough
Is there any real difference between the 360 Kinect and the XB1 Kinect in terms of toying around with pc full body? Or should i just grab the 360 bc its cheaper
I think the xb1 is much better hardware
I was briefly looking into that myself for a short while
might be easier to adapt to pc as well
xb1 is worse according to online forums
not because it's worse in hard ware
but it doesn't work with windows as well
Thats what i was worried about. Its clearly better on a hardware front, newer with newer intents behind it, but that better doesnt make it worth the extra cost if its not getting used or something in this application.
Has anyone used polywatch on VR headset lenses? I've got an HP Reverb G2 with a minor scuff from my glasses and was wondering if polishing the lenses would cause a noticeable glare from removing any coating on the lenses. I've got some 3D printed glasses adapters with round lenses now, the lenses have an anti-reflective coating on them.
Yup. The 360 Kinect was actually used in commercial installations, but the XB1 Kinect never made it outside the Developer Program
So the XB1 Kinect drivers for Windows aren't nearly as polished as the XB360 Kinect Drivers are...
does those cheap wmr headsets work well
like with Q2 price bump i need alternative
Yes, and surprisingly well. The Tracking is not as good as on the Quest or Rift S, but significantly better then the Vive Cosmos
any suggestion for around 300
Well most WMR headsets are basically the same hardware just with a different shell
I think the only exceptions to this are the Samsung ones and the HP Reverb Line of headsets
Honestly the quest 1 isnt the worst thing in the world if you want a cheap pc headset. Just know what to expect
Bought mine knowing id be getting kicked from games and stuff soon ish and locked to pc
If I had the choice between Quest 1 and Rift CV1 (both tend to be the same price on the used market) I'd personally spring for the CV1. Yes, the Cable is going to be a problem in the long run, but so is software support for the Quest 1
Besides that, native headsets give you a better image quality then whatever the Quest can do. Especially the Quest 1 with it's limited decompression capabilities
i guess i'll wait and see what 2023 has to offer
Do you think headsets like the quest 1 will go the way of consoles and homebrew? Where the device going EOL almost becomes a rebirth of community support and testing?
it's also outdated in hardware
even if modders bring support for newer games it gonna suck
As a standalone sure, but theres always room to expand and play around with a pc connected. Dont need to really support the headset to run that way. Im happy with my purchase, im just thinking long run keeping these things outta ewaste
Like pop1 is dropping support but i can still steam link it
Theres stuff like retrovr or whatever its called which is already up the ally of what im thinking
The Problem with the Quest is, that the ability to sideload apps is bound to your account being a developer account. If Meta decides that no more development shall happen on Quest titles, so would the ability to sideload apps dissapear...
Well thats shit
Might consider trading this out for a cv1 then
Maybe, not my choice alone tho. My wife may want the standalone beatsaber or something
You can ofc still use the Quest with a PC, but the experience imo is better on the CV1 (despite the cable & worse lenses)
Can you make the cv1 wireless?
If you can find a second hand TP Cast...
But the TP Cast is a super messy setup, using an off-the-shelf Wifi router for USB and an off-the-shelf wireless HDMI transmitter for the image. The result is a lowered FOV and abysmal battery life (2 hours on a 20Ah battery bank)
(not to mention the cable mess and the requirement of 2 power sockets just for the transmitters)
Idk. I like the Q1 for what it is. May just wait and see what's available in 2024 and hold this a bit instead of swapping it out
If you already have the Quest, it doesn't really make sense to switch to the CV1. I was more talking that if you have the choice of buying either a Quest 1 or CV1, I'd rather go for the CV1
Ah, i was under the impression it was a big enough difference to be worth dealing with swapping
anyone else capitalise on the free wireless adapter on vive purchases only to find out the AM4 compatibility issues from 2018 are still thing?
Not really. I'm running a Ryzen 5900X and have like 0 issues with my wireless adapter (well outside the battery not supplying stable enough power, but that's another issue)
quest 2 yay or nay for someone who never experienced proper VR?
Yay if you can tolerate Facebook, and want a standalone device nay if you have a pc. If youve got a half decent pc and can afford a dedicated headset go for it, then resell if you dont like it
The Hp Reverb G2 is probably the better buy if you're looking for a PCVR only headset
I got my hands on the Logitech Chorus, the newest over the ear headphones designed specifically for the Meta Quest 2! other then that he thinks they sound good
Man that's stupid
Makes me wonder why they didn't just make it like the DAS and use a 3.5mm audio jack as to not block the USBC port
His controller covers are cool though, if my sister does end up giving me her quest 2, I might buy a set of those
Wowww
budget is a massive factor but thank you for the recommendation i will check it out
fake FB account ez
is there anyone else with this issue using oculus link? the desktop preview looks perfect but frames are indeed getting dropped, and I've tried every single fix that's on the face of the internet..
To get banned EZ
what bs is that?
List of things to get: Quest 2 ez
Facebook likes to ban fake accounts out of the blue. They're quite strict with their real name policy. If they feel anything is up with the account, you get banned and can only get back in, if you can proof that all the data is valid with like an ID card or something...
ive had so many issues i might aswell save my sanity by getting a vive
Vive would indeed be first prize for me too but they're a bit pricey my side of the pond
but might be the way to go i think
The Vive Pro 2 and Cosmos ain't great anyways
It looks like there's some compatibility issue with the video encoder on your GPU. What GPU do you happen to have?
rx 580, its funny cause it used to work perfectly at 90hz 1.5x resolution
and ryzen 5 2600 if that matters
Hey, the OG Vive was great (if you're using it with Index controllers), and the Vive Pro 1 can even give you a better experience then the Index (if you're willing to invest in some custom audio solution). But the Hinge on the Cosmos likes to just not sit properly and make the image all blurry, and the VP2 lenses are a glary mess, not to mention the Software preventing you from actually using the resolution that the headset could offer...
So the issue appeared when you increased the resolution or refreshrate? am I getting this right?
So you recommend HP Reverb 2?
the issue appeared out of nowhere, i decreased the settings and it made no difference. also did a clean install of windows 10 21h2
googling intensifies
driver related perhaps? installed newer driver than the one before your clean install?
Well, either that or the Index for PCVR only. The Quest, requiring the image to be encoded and send as a sort of livestream to the headset to run PCVR, can be a pain to debug issues, if you run into any (as you can probably tell by Kamalei's issue)
i tried 22.8.1 22.5.1 and 22.5.2 same issues.
i even got a new motherboard cause i thought it was the usb port
have you tried running it on a different system with an Nvidia card?
or perhaps you have a friend you can borrow a card to test with?
at this time i currently dont.. but ill keep that in mind as one of my friends will be upgrading gpu soon
i wish i had another gpu laying around lol
thank you, they seem a bit hard to come by in my country but not impossible and in budget, thanks 😁 👍🏽
Np man ^^
dude they're even cheaper than the quest 2 on amazon
listings seem a little sus though...
HP Reverb G2 VR Headset with Controller, Adjustable Lenses & Speakers from Valve
No, that's completely true and correct
The audio solution comes straight from Valve (in-fact, it's the exact same speakers, just in a slightly different shell) and Valve also helped HP with the lens design
does anyone have an issue where randomly everything gets a massive blue/red outline and ur fps drops to like 30?
using a quest 2 on oculus link
happened a couple times to me while playing vtol vr
at first i thought it was an issue with vtol but it was still doing it even after i closed the game
it only stopped when i disabled link
blue/red outline? As in, blue on one side and red on the other?
yes
reminds me of budget 3d settings in games
It's probably the Chromatic Aberration messing up. My guess is that the entire Quest Link Pipeline is breaking up, which not just causes the graphical artifacts, but also a high load on the system resulting in low FPS...
I don't speak this language
all I read is "words that don't sound like his issue is a broken display but just the crappy built in hardware being crappy"
so the usual meta/fb crap
basically
shes fucked
Likely not hardware wise
and theres nothing ican do
What specs does your PC have? Namely GPU
until meta updates and fixes
rtx2070fe
i5 8400
32gb ram
Have you tried re-installing the Oculus PC software?
have not
Maybe try that first
alright
It can help with some issues sometimes. Don't expect miracles, but you can never tell without trying
All I see is headache inducing visuals I remember seeing on 3D stuff if you didn't wear the headache inducing glasses
that's an exaggerated example of chromatic aberration
tho I don't remember seeing it on newer 3D
Newer 3d tends to either split the image into two, with whole sections of the screen dedicated to each eye, or use rotated polarized light so glasses will filter out the image intended for the other eye, though some use a synced timed electrochromic tint to block light at exactly the right times so the display shows an image for one eye for a period of time, and at the same time as the lenses switch which let's light through the TV shows the next frame as intended for the other eye.
LTT recently made a video on that actually
Each have advantages and disadvantages, notably reliability or prohibitive cost
Yup
Though that wasn't even all the 3d techs either!
Science is awesome
And fun-fact: some of the data transmission techniques, that were originally meant for Stereo-2D (aka 3D images on a flat TV) were used for the brief time that VR used HDMI
Neat
HDMI doesn't really have the ability to transmit two seperate screen signals at a time. So the OG Vive and Rift CV1 used HDMIs Side-by-Side 3D feature to transmit the images for each eye through just one HDMI signal
With DisplayPort, the headset can just register as two logical displays, and completely seperate the signal for each eye from one another
It's not though. It's literally the index audio drivers but on the quest.
Clearly you didn't see the reviews for it
Oh wait did Logitech finally pull a whoopsie and make bad speakers?
Speakers are fine, implementation is awful
Yup. Instead of just putting a normal headphone jack, they went (idk probably) 'hey let's make it USBC so the cable is cleaner even though there's already a big ugly cable connecting both sides' and subsequently blocked data passthrough so you can't do a hard link with the speakers on
probably needed the power from the usb to drive them properly
reviews are saying they seem to drain the battery faster
In that case, they needed more power than the DAS speakers which use a 3.5mm audio jack and sound great, just to power a set of speakers that ended up sounding worse!
I swear, I can't believe after all this time that somehow the deluxe audio strap from HTC OF ALL PLACES is still the best accessory for the mainline facebook headset! For $100 plus a $20 3D printed adapter, you get a well build headstrap that you know 100% won't snap like half of the rando ones on amazon, plus a set of speakers that don't take up your USBC port, and sound really good for the price!
Give them lil batteries that charges through a passthrough USBC instead of 100% relying on USBC
oh wow, no PCVR passthrough on Logitech's Quest headphones is crazy
shocking to me they'd ship with that limitation, but I guess maybe a lot of Quest users aren't using PCVR
It's probably a USB-Stack limitation. Logitech probably thought, that if they need the USB for power anyways, they can just also get the data through there. But then the Quest's USB-Port would act as a Host device, but in order for Link to work, the port needs to act as a client device (which are exclusive to one another btw)
They could've went around this by leeching power from the USB and getting the audio through 3.5mm, but that would've destroyed the aesthetics they were going for (and we all know how important that is for marketing)
I honestly gotta look into the digital audio strap adapter, having proper speakers for my quest would be super cool
if you only use the wireless link the logitech speakers are a bit more forgivable, but the fact they only basically work on the stock/elite strap is kinda bull
especially for the price
Pic of my dad in 2003, colorized
Getting the BoboVR Pro tomorrow. I hear they're coming up with their own external speaker solution for it.
The logitech solution seems overpriced and works with only one set. so skipping those.
As always. It depends.
Im able to play beatsaber with stable 144hz on my Index even with my 1060. And btw the 1070 is much faster than the 1660 - its not only about vram.
Edit: its the Super - so idk, may be closer together... Either way you cannot just say x card is better because it depends, also what youd like to spend, how much it would cost etc.
It also heavily depends on the Headset
While with the Index you may be able to get 144fps on a lower end card like the 1060, you might even get 90fps on something like the Quest 2 or Reverb G2
1660 super is basically same as 1070, similar story for 1650 super and 1060 .-.
Quest 2 rx 580 8gb or gtx 1060 6gb? Vrchat mainly
Aiming mid settings with as high fps as possible
Thinking jump from 970
vr chat is heavy, or can be really heavy (lobby/room/avatar depending) afaik.
to the point something like a 3090 and a current high end cpu won't get you 100+ fps
Yeah, but the heaviness is caused by the user created content, so it can very wildly from world to world and also with the people inside the session you're in...
CPU is more important for vr chat.

Is this compatible with my Camera.
It sure is. its Campatible.
Hello. had a general tech question, is your VR headset supposed to have a seperate framerate than what is displayed on your monitor? For example: for most VR games my FPS on my monitor is hovering from anywhere from 60-70 frames. But in my VR I'm getting like 30-45fps per eye. Idk if it's like a refresh rate issue or if it's straight up just my hardware not being good enough to run 50-60FPS per eye.
I have a i9-9900kf and a RTX 3060. My HMD is a Quest 2 being linked via Oculus' official link cable.
Also, is it better to have a higher refresh rate and a lower resolution? or a lower refresh rate and a higher resolution?
would expect higher refresh rate with how many seem to get sick from low fps, lel
well i think with my higher rr my resolution gets lower, which is actually causin me to get sick from the weird difference in detail
Im mainly just asking in general, quite new to the vr space and the low fps with shitty textures was starting tp get me really angry
your computer only has to render the resolution once of whatever your monitor is, say 1080p
for the quest 2 it has to do 1920 x 1832 twice at min, for proper results for the screens resolution often higher
Anyone in here use virtual desktop for flatscreen games, playing to a Q1? How playable is something like overwatch?
that would probably be bad
the latency is too high to have super reaction time and flicks and stuff
playable but not as good as just a normal monitor
Id say the most important thing is frametimes
Just tried it. Its honestly better then i expected. My gpu (gtx970) handled 25-30fps at medium settings over cable link
Definitely a couple frame timing issues, but a gpu upgrade would fix that
Picked up the mic and speakers built into the headset no problem
Welp, there Lenovo go throwing their hat into the ring of "Quest 2 killers". I feel the same way about their legion VR700 that I do about the pico neo 3, pimax 12k qled, and every other headset made with the same XR2 chipset and so much marketing that it's somehow surprising that people still don't know they exist: I'll believe it when I see it
I'll believe it when I see it
This!
Can't believe people are hyping stuff up without knowing how it actually performs. It's like with Headphones really:
Oh look! This one company announced headphones with carbon drivers! They must sound good!
They come out and sound bassier & muddier then Beats Headphones during their prime time.
Thing is, certain categories you can'd judge by their spec sheet. Headphones, Mics, VR-Headsets, HDR performance. Without an independent review, the company can just say anything", and people will probably believe it...
(and let's be real here, the Legion 700 VR headset really looks like just another Lenovo Explorer/Rift S; just with an XR2 in it and branded for Gaming specifically)
or graphene, because Ora's garbage headphone
It was just a random example. Comapny X announces headphones with drivers made out of some exotic material, Shills for that Company hype it up as if it's the best thing ever made...
Here's the way I see it at least: Facebook is one of the only companies with the inventive to make hardware as cheap as the quest 2 was for as long as it was. The same reason that Facebook is known for harvesting your data and not Lenovo, pimax, or most of the other companies trying to get in on the standalone pie. Literally the only incentive for one of these companies to make a headset with a decent enough spec sheet and price point to actually compete with the quest 2, would be precisely that. Pulling market share away from the quest 2. But time and time again when companies are behind the curve, we've seen that it's almost always the safer choice to continue making more expensive, higher margin products that will have less sales than selling hardware at a loss to try and pull market share away from an established powerhouse
So I don't see there being a 'quest 2 killer' pretty much ever, because that would imply that someone has an even better incentive to move units than being able to sell your data, an incentive which can't sound good for consumers. The only hope I honestly have for the future is the whole standalone closed off ecosystem remaining a Facebook only thing while the rest of us continue to develop PCVR, build wireless features into more premium headsets, and one day not have a use for facebook's closed off metaverse because we'd just be able to stream our entire steam library straight into our headsets from our computers at home. That's my hope anyway
Trying to compete with the Quest is kinda like trying to compete with the NES back in the day, except the NES is significantly cheaper then it costs to manufacture & develop...
Honestly, for how console-like the Quest already is, I'm surprised it's OS isn't locked down any further then it is (with Sideloading and even modifying store-bought games being a possibility)
Yup. That's honestly a great analogy. A heavily monitored ecosystem based off of very affordable hardware (not sure why you'd want a quest 2 other than for standalone anymore considering a brand new Reverb G2 and the cheapest quest 2 are now the same price though) that seeks to grow as a means of making money rather than development potential
not sure why you'd want a quest 2 other than for standalone anymore
Simple, because Quest Shills have managed to embed in the public consciousness that WMR Tracking sucks (hint: it doesn't really anymore)
Some of the weirdness I've experienced while using the quest 1 and 2 has been way worse than literally anything I've ever seen on WMR somehow. Hell, I literally had a bug on my damn index last week where my controller was being tracked but it was being shown in the wrong place on the wrong axes and I couldn't move it. Stuff like that hasn't happened to me on WMR so far
was being tracked but it was being shown in the wrong place on the wrong axes
That normally happens when the controller assumes the position of the lighthouses wrong. It does happen sometimes when some of the wrong sensors on it are covered while it's looking for lighthouses. Restarting the device normally helps
When my paycheck comes on Friday, I'm ordering a reverb G2 and doing a direct trade with my sister. She only ever uses her quest 2 for PCVR and constantly complains about how annoying it is. Meanwhile I constantly travel and can make much better use of the standalone features while tinkering around with stuff that I normally can't since I don't own the hardware. We'd both end up with better hardware for our use cases, which is a concept that's lost on the people who run a quest with $500 worth of mods on PCVR only yet vehemently claim it's "just as good as the index!"
Yeah I messed around with it a bit and restarted steamvr and that fixed it
But yeah, I found WMR to just play along Lighthouse devices more nicely then the Quest ever did. While WMR uses a funky playspace scale (which makes devices seem to drift, but the drift is predictable), it's not nearly as bad as the Quest constantly and quietly adjusting the playspace offset as it's view of the room changes. As a result you need to recalibrate the Quest with Lighthouse like ever 5-10 minutes to not make your FBT look absolutely crooked...
On that note: I do wanna play around more with sticking a Vive Tracker to my Reverb G2 for when I'm visiting my VR friends again. The only downside of WMR Tracking is the limited controller visibility (granted I still got the G2V1), which doesn't actually bother me as much as the lack of touch sensitivity on the controllers (makes playing VRChat a pain >.>)
Something I am mildly annoyed about the quest 2 though:
Since they needed it to be as cheap as possible, the actual hardware quality is jank as hell and is such a pain to use that it's honestly infuriating. Like, I already have a list of accessories that keeps on growing that I'll need just to get the quest 2 up to my standards for regular use. It includes a new strap because the one that my sister has on it right now is dumb and only fits her head, a new facial interface that isn't made of the itchy material my sister's current one is, and these cool controller covers from kiwi that add the index hand straps as well as making the controllers considerably longer:
But yeah I have to spend an additional $100+ on accessories just to use the damn thing. That's not even including my prescription lenses from Widmo that I still have left over from when I owned a quest 1
Man I was just having a conversation with my family about spending all my money on computer hardware instead of substances I guess I was really just fooling myself huh. It all leads back to the good ol transcendence
This sounds so fake
like, no way a display strapped to your head is the same, lmao
Eventually it could be. When AR is more of a thing.
When you see the level of immersions we get in it's some kind of transcendence
The brain can't discern it from reality
that part, sure
but them comparing it to "psychedelics" is extreme clickbait
more like "transport you to another world" than "my brain is f'ed"
I honestly don't expect metaverse to do well because of multiple reasons...
the owner and the style of the characters
so far off of what style most would go for these days...
majority just goes anime or memes
shrek, anime girl, etc
some limitations maybe, sure
but the combination of FB/Meta and floating creepy character design won't attract those currently aged under 21ish,
most will probably just make it a virtual office honestly
if they add professional features
Also it's apparently designed for a 🦎, so nobody will like it.
I dont doubt that it can be an experience in and of itself, even on a low end device like the q1 ive got. But the VR/MR/AR space has a long way to go before it starts to come even close to actual hard drugs. Specifically psycs in this case
Although i do see potential in using it in combination with stuff like shrooms or LSD. Im no doctor, but from what i know and have experienced about both activities (vr and drugs) i do see potential to do something like help guide your trip. Or even without a full trip, microdose then throw on a headset to practice a job interview or something. Worlds of potential, both medically and recreationally
Indeed it could be interesting
One strategy presented by mr Thrillseeker was to follow Meta, the lads with money and means to normalize VR, until other people have caught up at which point we jump boat to the more free ecosystem
don't think anyone will use metaverse outside of businesses
the headsets just because they're cheap anyway
University professors who don't know what they're talking about will say it's the future.
just ask them: "do you think it will be the future, if the last two/three generations hate FB/Meta and go out of their way to not use their stuff, and more and more start doing so as society grows more towards privacy"
only age range I could see it using is like 11-15 and 25+ for business
maybe digital classroom
because it isn't hard to just give them a headset instead of a laptop at that price
would be good anyway, not like you really need offices and classrooms
Goin from a gtx970 4gb to a gtx1070 8gb. Cant wait to see how much smoother link is
How much of the former oculus still exist at Facebook that we know of? Because to be fair, Facebook didnt really make a low cost headset, they bought it. And i wouldn't be surprised if a company like Facebook gave the boot to alot of long term staff. Which could definitely hinder what their doing a bit, regardless of how much money they throw at it
what we need most of all is just an easier to set up VR for the idea of everyone using it to happen
facebook has the same company in china build it's headsets that make the pico neo
china headset sadly won't really help with the group of people who don't go with quest because of privacy concerns
(I just don't want FB to have anything of my info or even money, just slowly die off)
I accept having an essentially dead account to use the quest. I used to use it for a long time, and my wife still uses it. They probably have anything they want on me anyway
probably not much on me, because I've never had whatsapp, facebook, instagram, or any of their products
some they will have, considering family members
and ofc just visiting an instagram post
Ordered a bhaptics x40 suit and it shipped a month ago and dhl can't find it
So thats cool wonder what they will do about it
The scary thing is that when I got my quest, I made a fake FB account with a name that wasn't mine and it asked me to verify my identity. I make one that uses my real name not even uploading a profile picture or anything else that could identify me and I have yet to get a prompt.
Well heck
I finally got the money to buy my sister her Reverb G2, but while it was $400 on both Newegg and HP's website only a little bit ago, both of those listings have now gone back up to $600 which means I once again don't have enough money for it and I won't for another two weeks

Damn amazon reviews can be brutal. I'm reading up on what ppl have to say about the G2 and there are tons of people complaining about the software implementation, but I find it hard to believe dealing with WMR is anywhere as annoying with the Meta software
It's worse, but also better, if that makes any sense. The WMR software has FAR more issues, but they're fixable. The Oculus software works 99.999999% of the time, but if something goes wrong, you have to wait for them usually
Basically, the reason I'm getting the G2 for my sister is because she has a quest 2 that she only uses for PCVR and always complains about 1. How long it takes to get everything set up to play, 2. All of the prep work she has to do in order to play, 3. How the visuals on the quest are compromised by the compression, and 4. The fact that she has to charge the headset itself and it's always dead at the most inopportune times
She's expressed interest in how I can just press a button on my index controllers and be in VR in under a minute with no setup or hassle required, but I can't exactly just buy her a whole index kit, nor does she have the room for it. So I thought getting her a G2 would be an okay middle ground. As long as the G2 solves those things she complains about that I mentioned, it'll be a worthwhile change
Interesting...in my experience, Quest 2 is generally the most seamless, with the exception of having to update games
Oh wait, I missed the PCVR comment
for me from getting out of my chair and into a pcvr game all set up on the quest 2 is probably like 5 minutes
it’s pretty annoying
and that makes me want to play less even though I would like to
Is she fairly knowledgeable in software and PC troubleshooting? You have to fight with the G2 a lot because of WMR, so she should be ready to troubleshoot quite often
I gotta move my chair, turn the lights on, move my attoman, make sure the cable isn’t kinked, adjust the headstrap and clean the lenses, check my guardian to see if it’s still right (sometimes it just randomly shifts) go into link (if it’s working, if not then I have to replug), then launch the game
Not really. She has to call me every time her quest 2 starts freaking out. Like the screens flickering, the software crashing, her resolution or refresh rate being set back to d default, or whatever else the software decides to mess up on a given day. What kind of troubleshooting
Driver issues, incompatibility warnings, the software will crash constantly, the settings will reset constantly, and probably the biggest issue, WMR always dragging attention back to itself and you taking your headset on and off and on and off constantly to fix things
The visual fidelity of the G2 will be better, but it sounds like the issues she's already facing are just going to be exacerbated to even greater levels...I would check out the large number of reviews on Google and elsewhere, it's not a pleasant experience software wise
Well, guess that plan's gone out the window
There are no native steamvr headsets that are inside out tracked unfortunately
For PCVR, nothing even comes close to the Index unfortunately
She doesn't have the space to mount base stations properly so an index or anything else outside tracked is out of the question. She plays sitting at a desk and only has about a 1.5m cube to move around in.
Instead of everybody adopting SteamVR and having it run seamlessly, they all feel the need to add their own weird bridge softwares. I think the only thing that doesn't have a weird connection is Unreal Engine, which uses SteamVR by default
Yeah...that's a tough spot to be in.
So I guess the rift S would be the next best thing? It's lower resolution and worse tracking but it gets rid of the charging and half of the software issues
Potentially, yeah. With a third base station, the tracking is considerably better than inside out tracking too.
Rift S, not Rift CV1, so it would still be inside out tracked
The rift S also sells for relatively low nowadays
I didn’t like my rift s
the res was pretty bad it hurt my eyes a lot worse than my q2
and there’s no physical ipd adjustment it’s all software so that’s sucks big time too
@haughty thistle what do you think about this for playing in the dark? https://a.co/d/aS16MZ3
KKCOBVR i2 indoor IR illuminator has a two-gear brightness adjustment. The first gear of brightness can be used in a room of 15-20㎡, and the second gear can be used in a room of 30-40㎡. If you need to use it in a larger room, you can buy multiple I2 indoor Ir lights to enhance the headset, hand tr...
or maybe just a straight up IR floodlight would be better, but then I can’t take it wherever I go
oh nvm apparently it doesn't passthrough link, only power
what do I do about these crazy spikes?
I just restarted the PC, and I still am getting these horrible hangs at random intervals, even just in steam vr home
CPU and memory okay?
Ya, cpu, memory, gpuball at low utilization, good temps, no strange power situations... it's like some program is just ruining my day
Where does one find the raw tracking data or debugging tracking info on steamVR for index?
That's not really my experience with WMR. It has always been, plug in the headset and go. Don't even need to fire up the WMR Portal if the headset wasn't plugged in at boot...
I do agree that the error messages aren't particularly helpful (but since when does Microsoft do helpful error messages)
Like I've had none of these issues. Except maybe the thing with the headset taking control, but that's a setting you can turn off...
@gloomy crater most of the WMR issues Ethan described were early issues with the WMR software that have long been solved. The only thing I'd say you have to be careful with the G2 is that it won't work on a GPU with DP1.2, as the G2 requires DP1.4...
I'd more to for the IR Floodlight. Having the light head mounted could confuse the tracking with the moving shadows casted by your hands and objects in the room...
So my sister's 3070 says it has 3x DP1.4A, would that work?
And would that GPU even be a good pair with the G2, or would she need a more powerful card?
DP1.4A is an extension to the DP1.4 spec and should work just fine.
As for the performance, it probably won't be able run every game at 100% render res, but even running it at 65%, it still has an amazingly good clarity
finally got around to ordering some prescription lens inserts a few days ago now another 14-18 day delay apparently before shipping bleh
Would the G2 running at such a resolution still look better than what the quest 2 looks like on a wire? Cause the quest 2 is kind of a mess in my experience, muddy details and blocky shadows. The resolution isn't so much an issue as long as those are fixed
I haven't tried the Quest 2 yet (only the Quest 1), but comparing my Index and the Q1 with Link to the G2 at 65% resolution, I'd say out of those three options, the G2 wins by a mile. The image looks a bit soft on the G2 at such a render res, but still surprisingly good (despite being so far off from it's native res; normally I'd complain at that point, but it doesn't look blurry on the G2, just soft 👀). Just make sure to run off the automatic render res in the Windows settings. It's turned on by default and it while the dynamic resolution doesn't show up on the Render Res Slider in SteamVR, it definetly affects render res in SteamVR. Highly recommend turning it off and handling res manually, but even a blanked option like 65% in SteamVR works pretty good (it's the res I'm running the G2 on my Laptop with a 2070 Mobile btw, so on a 3070 you can probably push it a bit more then that)
Alright good to know. I found a listing on Walmart for $500, and that's not as good as the $400 offer from last week but it's still a big price cut. I'll probably order it once I get home

I mean, I just bought the extended quest 2 grip covers from them earlier today, and I was planning on buying a DAS plus the necessary adapter at some point
All together, getting a DAS set up costs somewhere around $120 after tax and shipping? So if Kiwi's is well built and only $80 then that might actually be a really good deal
Although, I'm not entirely sold on the dual hinging design that they use for their head straps
It can be useful and annoying
only annoying when I’m tryna adjust the headset angle and accidentally flip it up
Although Meta previously confirmed it would launch Project Cambria sometime this year, it wasn’t clear exactly when we’d be seeing the release of what many hypothesize could be dubbed Meta Quest Pro. Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the company is releasing its next headset in October, which likely […]
Rip
I mean, anyone who expected Cambria to be cheap didn't get the memo. It isn't a consumer device. 1500$ for that kinda tech (and R&D!) is actually kinda cheap tho...
facial tracking and (hopefully) full tracking in a single device that also is standalone.
Vr suit
Inside-Out FBT is honestly a pipe dream. There was some experimental Methode shown, but it worked terribly and it required you to hold your hands all the way out for the controllers to get a good look at your body
Tl;Dr:
Full body Tracking will always require you to strap something on your body or place something into your room
I would just do suit
the pico neo 4 has a good chance of costing less then the quest pro with similar specs
Well, Pico is a Chinese company, so not that surprised tbh
I haven't personally tried any hardware from Pico yet, but if my previous experience with Chinese Phone makers (and the only chinese VR company selling world wide rn, aka Pimax) is anything to go by, it would be this: lot's of marketing, maybe some of the hardware is actually good, the software you need, absolute 🚽
I'm still looking forward to what they have to offer (especially as unlike Meta, they actually put a DP-In on their headsets to not knowingly hamper PCVR performance)
Outside of specs on a sheet, is there any way to tell a V1 Reverb G2 from a V2 model just by looking at photos on a listing?
I think the breakout box for the cords differs
I was thinking there might be a way to tell which version it is using this box tag but I have no way to figure that out:
where does the QR code go?
Alternatively, it says this person has sold hundreds of G2's off of this one listing, does it look sus or do y'all think it's legit just weird marketing? https://www.ebay.com/itm/165480962933
Cards that run Reverb at full resolution: · NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 TiNVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER, NVIDIA GeForce 2080 TiAMD Radeon RX 5700, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, AMD Radeon 7.
It just copies the entire serial number to your clipboard it seems, so they don't have to put the whole thing on the tag
The info on the back of the power box in this listing appears to match the info on a confirmed V2 box, but it also says that the photos may not be indicative of the product received.
It does literally say version 2 in the title though. I just didn't think I should instantly click the buy button and instead take a bit of time to be skeptical and ask others for their opinions
That Sticker you posted matches what it says on my G2V1 box almost to the letter. The only differences are the 4 digits in the lower left and the long Alpha-Numeric string in the lower right ends with a B on yours and A on mine. Plus your's has a QR-Code on it, while mine doesn't
I would say that it's pretty safe to assume that that's from a G2V2 (as in the HEA is the "Product ID" and the A/B referring to the actual revision of the product in question; no idea what the REV-A stands for tho)
Also, they did mention in their listing something about cards with DP1.2 that can supposedly run the headset at half the resolution, which I don't think is something my G2V1 can do at all (I've tried running it with a DP1.2 adapter on my 2070 Laptop and WMR just kept giving me errors)

i am trying to use 1 base station 1.0 with 3 3.0 vive trackers, however steamvvr is not detecting it and windows dosent see it when i connect it via micro usb, help
and the trackers arent being detected either even though they are connected with the dongles
Lighthouses only show up in SteamVR if they are being seen by a Lighthouse tracked device
Plugging them in doesn't do anything (it's meant for wired FW updates, but in my experience those are only installed wirelessly at this point, and require a Lighthouse tracked device like the Index)
but even when i have my connected trackers in front of the lighthouse it dosent show anything still
and ive seen vids of people using lighthouses and trackers without a headset
That's weird
The Lighthouse is showing a green LED and the tracker shows up in SteamVR?
Also please note that you need a certain distance between Tracker and lighthouse, and in the case of the 1.0s, if you're running just one Lighthouse, you want it showing the letter A in the front
its showing a green led and is on channel A
the tracker dosent show up in steam vr
Then you might need to pair the tracker first. Plug in the Tracker dongle into your PC, and then pair the Tracker in SteamVR
ok
how do i pair tracker
On the SteamVR window, you click on the little burger menu in the top left, then Devices -> Pair controller. In that window you select Tracker, and the dialog will explain the rest
i connected it but its not showing up
The tracker or the lighthouse?
trackers

Honestly, I don't know exactly what you're doing rn, so I can only suggest you watch this video:
https://youtu.be/JnX8NK-lsPY?t=235
I added a teimestamp for where he explains how to pair the trackers, but the video shows the whole process for Fullbody Tracking on a non-Lighthouse tracked headset
Here is a full guide from START TO FINISH on how to get full body tracking working on your Oculus Quest or Oculus Rift or Rift S.

Ok thank you
Does anyone with the hp reverb g2 know how to fix the somewhat buggy controller tracking
What do you mean with "buggy"? Like do your controllers jiggle around, even when hold still? Do they fly off into the distance every now and then? or do you mean that the controllers don't track when too far outside of your Field of view?
Fly off into distance every so often
If you have exposed LED strips on walls or furniture, those can cause this sort of problem. Another reason for this can be reflective surfaces (like a mirror, TV or sometimes even windows and TG sidepanels on PCs)
Try covering any reflective surface and non-diffused light strips and see if the situation improves
Hey y'all, I've been wondering. Is the Index still the go-to when it comes to VR or is there something better nowadays?
I've really put getting a VR headset on hold for 2 years now, hoping Valve will announce a new out at some point, but I think I can just afford to pay full price now and sell it 2nd hand later if I ever want to upgrade
For a full setup, yeah the index is pretty much the best option around. Everything you need for a great VR experience (as long as you have a good enough PC) in one package for a relatively decent price for what it offers. If you're trying to pick and match a setup piece meal though, then there are better options. Like using the index controllers with a better HMD like a Varjo Aero or some other high end headset, which requires both the base stations and USB trackers for the controllers. It's significantly more expensive but also a significantly higher quality display picture.
Well, I don't really wanna get much over $1k either, so then it's all in on the Index I assume
quest pro and pico neo 4 both launching in a month or two
valve is working on their next gen headset the deckard as well, no clue when that may launch however
pimax has some next gen headsets coming as well but they will probably have the same QC issues
I have tried this and don't see any difference
Quest Pro is likely gonna be $1.5k and the Pico Neo 4 Pro (likely similar specs to the Quest Pro) may be cheaper, but probably not by much, so you'd still be looking at >1k for those headsets (with tracking that may be pretty good, but still not as good as lighthouse)
Both headsets that Pimax has announced are beyond $1k too, and that's HMD only. At that point you might as well splurge on a Varjo and probably get a way better experience out of it 😉
quality would certainly be higher on the varjo
Here's what in my opinion would be the perfect new headset from Valve that would actually make me consider the price that some of these companies are asking for their headsets: An HMD with native PCVR support like the index, but completely wireless using some wifi 6E or better standard to reduce the latency as much as possible, the ability to seamlessly interact with the original index controllers and base stations, but then the same SOC built into the steam deck onboard to be able to access and play your SteamVR library standalone without a computer using inside out tracking and whatever new controllers it comes with. Seeing as there most likely won't be a new valve headset for quite some time now, I think there's plenty of time for the tech to develop enough to make all of this possible
What we know so from the Patents and data mined information from SteamVR, Deckard may have Eye Tracking, a Varifocal Lens system (although that may be less likely as of recent information), Micro-OLED panels, and a swappable headstrap module system. The idea with that last one is, that the HMD may come with something like an XR2 built in and a native DP in for native PCVR compatibility via a cable (that cable may or may not be a separate purchase). You could then swap that headstrap from one with a larger battery and WiGig2 receiver for high quality, wireless PCVR or for a strap with what is essentially a Steam Deck without the controls and display, to run PC desktop games in a virtual theater...
The XR2 may or may not allow for lower quality wireless PCVR if one so desires
If they were to release something like that, I'd definitely be willing to pay exorbitant prices for it. May not be as simple as having everything required on board at once, but having the ability to choose which features you need and buy the necessary accessories accordingly would reduce the price by a lot
Yup. It would be the best of all worlds imo
Only time will tell as to what Valve ends releasing, and when. I just hope they won't be too late to the party with Deckard 😬
Even if it takes them a while, whatever they do end up releasing will still probably sell well. There will always be a market for their stuff, as it's made for and made by them and their game library, which is one of the largest in the world. I don't see HTC coming out with anything interesting any time soon, so that leaves valve themselves as pretty much the only directly integrated VR manufacturer. Everything else is either through their own software like oculus or WMR, or not compatible with a PC at all. So seeing as valve is currently busy with the development and launch of the steam deck, it'll probably take them a bit. Hopefully they're just developing their next VR offering from behind the scenes while allowing everyone else to show off what they have to offer, so that when it finally does come out, it's actually competitive with modern offerings instead of being years behind the curve.
that would be amazing
the varifocal stuff looks so cool
Well, the G2 I ordered from the shady ebay seller is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I still have no idea how to actually tell if it's the V2 version just from the hardware though
You can. The G2V2 comes not just with the updated cable, but it's facial interface is also made of two parts. The latter was never sold separately afaik
how hard would it be to replace your TV with a VR headset?
I have two options for my need, a TV on a monitor arm (can't wall mount, and need 270 degrees), or a VR headset
A good TV will always be a better viewing experience then a VR headset
Mostly because stupid DRM makes it basically impossible to view anything better then 480p legally in VR
how does one desk mount a 55-65 inch TV tho
trying to think of a way to use a single large display for all use cases 🤔
How about a 48"? There's this one guy on YouTube who keeps showing off his minimalist working setup, and that guy used a 48" LG C1 for a while as his main monitor mounted on a Desk Arm
David Zhang is his name
I mean, wouldn't be used as my main display, but...
for couch and bed basically, attached to my desk so I can use it as secondary when needed
trying to down size
just trying to down size because I want to move somewhere else, as I live in the middle of no where
somewhere I likely won't be able to find a place as big as I currently have
I mean, there's also the 42" C2 OLED now, if that's more of your jam 😉
Idk, could maybe live with 32inch, but the distance is 2-2.5meter
one things for sure, I am probably going to have to get the lighter panel types to do so
quick simplified example of like minimum
I've thought about VR, because it would keep it compact, and it would just be youtube and such anyway
but idk how Virtual desktop and such deals with tabs, wouldn't work at all if it for example only works on the angle it is booted at
But you can play among us VR
VR doesn't even have any games I would play yet
neither do I speak english
Alright
my index is held together with gorilla tape, duct tape, and prayers, and valve doesnt have a headstrap in stock
i love valve index build quality!! wooo!!
Nevermind, eBay said that it'll be arriving early (today) and then promptly changed its mind an hour later. Now it says 3 days until arrival.
The extended kiwi grip covers and audio strap for the quest 2 should be here soon though
Fortnite maybe getting vr support? Ive played all of 10 mins of that game, but could be cool. Not into brs but those custom games tho
wtf
that wouldn't even be VR BR, that would be a VR horror game
but instead of jump scares from enemies it is jump scares from random bullets from snipers one shotting you from an entire map's distance away
isn't fortnite a third person only game? how does that work
Pov: you're the camera that follows the player
Apex would be really cool in vr with all the abilities
I mean, that's literally how Zelda BotW works with the Labo VR set...
Spoiler: ||It's horrible||
I can imagine lol
That sounds horrible
I've been playing Destiny for six years now but with the amount of mobility in that game, I don't think I'd ever be able to stand playing something like that in VR. Even as resistant to motion sickness as I am
Oh, not just that, head rotation is just mapped as if you're moving the camera with your stick (turned off by default tho), and the UI is just statically slapped into your face, so it's actually really had to see the far ends of the menu...
the only future I can see for VR is basically the matrix or any "alternate reality" world
I think VR will become kinda like a playstation or an Xbox
Everyone can play it without a huge barrier to entry, and play causally
And there will be the hardcore on PC
I personally don't really see VR becoming that big if they don't try to go for MMORPGs and similar
it is a bit to casual for controls and experience currently to become all that big for the competitive style games honestly
currently seems more like something that would work well for MMORPG, Minecraft, racing games maybe, (and just community based games)
bit to janky still for anything to fast paced,
will have to wait until they find a good yet cheap way to make running possible
another obvious use case would be digital offices, so they can slowly get rid of office buildings
"microsoft office VR" when
I think they'll also have to solve a lot of the accessibility issues before it'll get that big. Boneworks for instance only really reaches its maximum possible enjoyment when standing up thanks to the movement and the fact that the pocket system only works through the menu when you're sitting down, since you most of the time physically can't put your hands into some of the places you need to in order to pull a mag or an item without the menu.
the moment they find a way to make it work within like 1.5x1.5/2x2meter spaces, without having to severely limit controls, is the moment it will probably make a huge shift
Increase that effect tenfold for people with genuine disabilities like missing fingers or limbs and suddenly you realize that having everything tied to different buttons might not be the best idea. VR has the potential of letting people experience things they otherwise wouldn't be able to, but are stopped from experiencing VR for the same reasons they're stopped from being able to experience it in real life. If you're missing both your hands, you can't go rock climbing in real life. Well, that shouldn't stop you in VR! Except it does, because they expect you to have hands to rock climb in VR as well. Why? Why is that a thing?
currently you need an entire living room just for VR to make it work, or be rich enough to afford the beta stuff
or just deal with the issues
my sister plays vr in a 1.75m^3 area. It's at her desk she has set up underneath her loft bed, so there's not really any room to stand up or move around. the best she can do is roll her chair slightly backwards, but even then she has to be careful not to hit her monitor when moving her hands.
for me, I would love to see VR come with alternative realities
"the moment VR just becomes a fantasy world"
pretty big area honestly
will help a lot when they make it usable in office/bedroom size
3x3meter area, with a 160x80cm desk and a bit of a chair or smth, rest of the space for VR
basically just barely enough to not hit the wall when in the center
It's an amazing game imo
Best AI I've seen in VR, very reactive
Also the physics are great
The only downside is that now the game doesn't run really good anymore, at least on my 2060
I'm playing the nomad version on standalone quest
I'm not convinced
There's a free demo for another game that gives you more features, including a sandbox, arena and dungeons mode and overall easier controls
In that game you only fight skeletons and goblins, but dismemberment is easier to do, you have more weapons and combat overall is more enjoyable
The game is called "Battle Talent" for everyone who cares btw
Maybe not exactly more weapons but it feels like a wider variety and I prefers the weapons there over B&S
At least I can use a gun and a katana without downloading a mod
If I could I'd play hellsplit arena though, but I've yet to install a psu and graphics card to run vr games on pc
Okay so i just did a small test. Ill do a full experiment when i wake up later. My controller can still connect to my pc from my bedroom. Therefore i should be able to leave my headset in my bedroom and use it as a full fledge pc, gaming and all. Using oculus link for the headset, and standard Bluetooth for the controller (could connect the controller to the oculus but steam link gets mad). So hopefully it could be a cool thing, but that much activity over my local network could case too much latency. plus im normally alot closer to my router when im in link, so that distance could be an issue too. We shall see
Anyone here ever got an oculus refund even after playing a game for longer than 2 hours?
of course it sucks on standalone quest
tryna do bonkers ai stuff with all the physics and big scenes at the same time on a phone chip is probably not going to be good
- vr rendering
Its a very physics complete game, something a certain group of people really likes, but isn't immediately obvious to most players
VR games now are so different from at the start 🤔
job simulator and such games is what I think about when I think about earlier days
basically just tech demos
it is still just a tech demo game tho
But I'm waiting to see if my refund will be accepted
The kickstarter for the valve index wireless adapter goes live in 5 days
Well today is gonna be fun. I have class for another three hours, then I get to go home and see if the Reverb G2 I ordered is actually a V2 like the listing said it was. Then I get to take it over to my sister's and start getting it set up for her computer. After I get that all sorted out, I get to start purging her data from her Q2 and get all my stuff loaded onto it. the new head strap isn't here yet cause kiwi ships from china but I'll find a way to make it work.
I pre ordered the $80 audio strap
They only listed them on their website cause there were only 50 of them for sale in the first wave. And everything off of the site ships from china.
Ok, seeing as it came with this detachable piece of the facial interface and the cord with the little button on the power box, I think it's safe to say that I've got the V2 version as advertised
Bro this HMD weighs like half of what my index does
If it weren't such a pain to get the index controllers working with it and if it didn't mean having to go through WMR to play, I'd get one for myself
Okay update, I've got everything installed (seemingly?) And as soon as I launch beat saber it turns into a stuttery mess unless I set it to 20% resolution, which is literally the minimum possible. I'm gonna restart everything and hope that I can reach at least 50% bc theoretically a 3070 shouldn't be whipped this hard at such a low relative resolution
Alright final notes. After a bit of tinkering, I've got it set up, everything is fine for the most part, I'm getting pretty good frames in beat saber at 66% resolution so that's where I'm gonna keep it, if it turns out to need lowering for other games I can adjust it in the per app display settings. Still, this has been a joy to set up compared to the Oculus software. I can literally just plug in the box and turn on the controllers and it starts everything up, which is exactly what my sister wanted. She's gonna love this, but she gets home late tonight so I'm coming over tomorrow to show her everything. I'm definitely satisfied with this purchase.
What is a good donge to use from usb3.2 to usbc for my quest 2 and im using official link cable
Pretty much any one will do
If your PC also has a USB-C Port, that should also work 🙂
Then im very unlucky because these dont work https://amzn.eu/d/bmdGGMi
Mine doesnt 🥲
Well, any USB-C to A adapter you buy for the Quest needs to explicitly support USB 3.0. The one you posted up top only talks about Power delivery from what I can tell...
USB Stroom Adapter
(I don't speak dutch, but I assume it's words are similar enough to German for me to not misinterpret this xD)
Stroom is power/electricity so yes (technically not a direct translation for either but used the same as power in this context)
Yeah, I figured so. In german we'd use the term "Strom" for electricity...
for specifically "electricity" we have "elektriciteit" that's why I say technically
Dutch really is just drunken german...
same thing for power but more obvious reason
I mean, france, belgium, netherlands, germany is basically a slider
belgium is closer to french, netherlands is closer to german
then you've got part of belgium in the middle
Belgium isn't a straight answer
The Flaanders (northern Belgium) is basically speaking dutch, while the South is mostly speaking belgian french
I do not know what they call the languages in english so
¯_(ツ)_/¯
and just so you know, northern belgium to many dutch people is a bunch of nonsense
if they focus they can understand, but a lot of words are wtf

a lot of french added as well, and just some words used entirely different
This channel is not for language discussions xD
a little bit in DM, won't say more, just an example
Thoughts on the upcoming rumoured Apple AR headset?
Who is this even for and what could it possibly be used for?
anyone here has seen the "Lenovo Glasses T1"? does it consider VR?
that's AR i think
Its AR. Hadnt seen it till your message, seems cool. I was recently watching a youtuber who made a diy headset, this seems like a cleaner version of that (ofc lenovo vs some random dude with off the shelf parts). If it comes in under $500 like the DigitalTrends article says, it could be really cool. I want one, although im probably going to wait a bit to see what kind of either official long term or community support it has. May not need that much long term support in general if they keep it a simple display mirror. Would like to see it wireless though.
why do they all look so dumb
I am way too dangerous for this world hahahahahaha
Just touched my 1st Gen Oculus Quest after so many months
- Updates
- Beat saber updates
- New songs
- realize how out of shape I’ve gotten since last using my headset damn
I used to be really good at beat saber, but these 3 new songs so far I can only do S on hard.
witch songs?
Spooky Beat, Escape Remix, and this $100 bills remix
1060 6GB or 580 8GB? Only have gpu bottleneck so dont ask me to up cpu
they're neck and neck, so go with either one. Which ever runs the games you want to play better.
go for the 1060
I don’t think the extra 2gb of vram would make that big of a difference
it’s a little bit faster than the 580
RX580 8gb is capable of destroying 1060 tho (more so with how much bios mods and stuff exist for it)
yea the 580 is a faster card
I still don’t if I should've kept my RX 470 8gb that beat a 1070, or if I made a good decision selling it for over 400 together with the bios
I still have my 480 8gb I got pre shortage for $100, really glad I didn't sell this thing because it still makes a great test card. Can play a load of modern games, even some VR, and is compatible with pretty much every system config due to being so old and the drivers so well developed. I considered getting a 1080ti or even a 2080ti for more overhead when testing stuff but even if I did buy a new card for hardware testing, I don't think I could sell this 480
could've sold the 480 8gb for 420-460 eur here early 2021
bought for 80, sold for 4-5x personally
I also got a 5700XT for $400 during the shortage. Personally I think the one card I did decide to scalp more than made up for me keeping those two cards, but then it came back to bite me. Sold a 3070 I got for $615 to someone for $1300, but then they got ahold of my family six months later and told them since the card is now worth less than half the price I sold it to them for, I should reimburse them the difference and my family agreed. Which I personally think is bs because I got my 6900XT for $1700 and you don't see me going to newegg to demand I get my $700 back because the card sells for less now
how does a 2060 Super fair against minimum to normal VR settings
pretty decent
I have a 2070 and it does good enough
I’m really picky though so it’s probably better than I think
2060s and 2070 are pretty close
I let my quest update yesterday and now it shows the meta logo on boot
It’s tainted
Just another lesson. Never update your electronics kids
120 fps has been an "experimental feature" on Quest 2 for a long time, and we are finally going to make it default-on. Any app that plays 60 fps video should consider 120 fps display -- it avoids the flicker of 60 fps display, and makes imperfect release tempo less harsh.
425
geez Meta is really cranking up their advertisements on the metaverse
I’m watching the news and there’s been at least 1 or 2 meta commercials every commercial break
Hopefully they fixed all the bugs with it
When I had it enabled my guardian was all wonky
Easy fix, disable guardian
live life dangerously
😳
my tv would be in pieces
and my monitors and my brothers monitors and my brother’s face
d a n g e r o u s l y
Anybody in VR is
Imagine the Wii safety image, except the user doesn't actually see it xD
I disabled the guardian lol
Way too distracting at times
I prefer having Floor only room bounds. They're a nice trade-off between room safety and non-intrusiveness. Too bad Metabook never implemented the option for Floor-Only bounds on the Quest...
(just another reason to stay on PCVR hardware)
Mind you, WMR is pretty much just floor only, except it shows little ripples when your controllers get close to them. Not quite Floor-Only but close enough that I'll take it
I’m not sure I entirely understand what you mean by “Floor-Only” bounds but perhaps my brain is just in such a tired state right now
Do you mean so it doesn’t show walls as you get close to them or…?
Basically, the boundaries are only shown on the floor, but not above
Ah
I already play in such a tight space I’ve had to just make the boundaries very wide as otherwise they would constantly be showing up as I’d move. So I suppose I get what you’re saying.
If it were floor only I could set an actual size boundary without it interrupting gameplay
Yup
Even in larger play spaces it's nice. You don't see them, unless you want to
Never heared that.
A friend has the 580 - the amd is faster.
hm
my friend had a 580 and he was getting pretty bad performance
maybe he had a bunch of crap on his computer lol

And already at low res
is there a way to use the Valve Index wirelessly?
built my first PC this eyar and am wondering if i should wait on buying VR
there is but it costs multiple k and they only sell a handfull of units each year as i understand it.
Well this is just a fine mess
So I've purchased a product for a VR headset in my possession recently. The product and the company who made it I can't say because they've asked me to keep the issue confidential, but they've essentially reached out to say that the product I purchased has a design defect that may or may not make it unusable. All I can really do is wait for them to figure out how to fix it, and if my unit is one of the ones affected, I'll receive a full refund along with an updated version of the product once they get to the production phase of the updated design. So if it turns out my one isn't garbage, then that's fine because in that case it works as intended and everything is good, but if it turns out mine is screwed, then all I can really do is wait until they fix it, but I'll be receiving all my money back plus a fully functioning one eventually
I mean that doesn't sound bad. At least they're standing by it. And you could get a full refund for it if nonfunctional. I'd be pretty happy myself.
Yeah, if it works it works and the transaction is completed, but if not, then that's at least a couple months I'm gonna be without that money AND without a functioning product. They said if it doesn't work as intended I can use a screwdriver as a temporary fix (once again being intentionally vague)
Hmm
Other than a dirty lighthouse, what might cause bad tracking?
Also my left wand doesn't rumble anywhere near as much as the right one. An example of this is I can feel every cut in Beat Saber on my right, but my left is only an occasional one.
Does anyone know why the wireless kit will drop out within the first 10 minutes and then be fine after being unplugged then replugged from the battery?
I used to get really wonky tracking issues back when I had multiple monitors, posters with glossy covers on them, and a mirror set up in the same room as my base stations. Reflective surfaces tend to do that
It's only the left one and there's only the TV and a single poster that might affect that. Everything else is pretty matte.
It was also happening before the poster.
I've covered anything reflective yet still get tracking issues lol
The vive trackers don't like to stay where they're supposed to in vr
And that's with 4 base stations
TVs are often a cause for tracking issues due to their glossy reflective panel surface
My Alienware QD-OLED monitor is causing tracking issues too when I get too close to it, so glossy display panels for sure can be cause of tracking issues
For all tracking or just certain kinds? Should i be putting a blanket over my tv on a quest?
I would do it just in case
Alright
then what if you have glossy marble flooring?
Reflections are the worst nightmare for optical tracking techinques (which is used by basically every VR headset out there)
No all glossy surfaces reflect the same spectrum of light. For examples, Windows can cause tracking problems, but you can also be absolutely fine with them uncovered
It all depends on the material. Don't ask me why glossy display panels tend to be on the "IR reflective" side of things...
buy a house made entirely out of silver, gold, marble, etc and try it out ig
I don't even have a tv and my monitors are not glossy so I should be fine on that part.
The only thing that MIGHT reflect is my fridge which is slightly glossy white paint
Then again I've walked up to my fridge in vr to grab something multiple times and been fine
"walked up to my fridge in VR"
do you grab drinks and snacks so often you can do so while blind?
There are cameras.
That's the one thing I really wanna set up on Index, a quickly and easily accessible passthrough hotkey
You know what’s fucking annoying
No?
Bad drivers
I was buying the humble bundle for vr and messed up the email so I contacted humble support to change it and they still have not replied
So I’ll probably spend another 20 to get it because it expires tomorrow
This was on Sunday
You could still get bundle and it be cheaper
Either your fridge is near your pc or you are using a Quest
my reloptix lenses have finally shipped
I don't do it super often but I know my apartment well enough to do it lol
It's near my pc because my apartment isn't that big
Since I can't do the passthrough thing on index, I've gotten quite good at opening my mini fridge across the room while wearing my headset. Good thing I have the kiwi cable kit to let my cable stretch across the room
Walking to and opening my fridge gets some interesting reactions in vr sometimes
Full body tracking would make it look cool
I cantvdo it because my I'd have to leave the room
No base stations in the kitchen
Just buy 4 base stations for every room in your house ofc. Then you never have to leave
The usb connections would be a nightmare
I don't know if it's off topic,But my quest 2 has been collecting dust,I can't really find enjoyable games
The only games I enjoyed were super hot and job simulator
What kinda stuff you looking for? Beat saber and rec room are staples. Ive been enjoying The Climb (vr rock climbing sim thing)
Are you using it standalone or with a pc?
the vr industry is more focused on releasing new headsets rather than games
for the rest of this year there’s only gonna be 2 notable releases
I also have an okay ish pc if you meant to reply to my message (GTX 1060 i5 8400 16gb ram)
Do you know any older games then?
Idk if it's a niche genre
But I am looking for more casual/funny games
Because the shooters are getting old fast
accounting +
trover saves the universe
Gorn
Yea meant to reply to you and the 1060 is probably not going to reach comfortable framerates in most games on pc and I can't recommend games for quest because I don't have one
also if you desire story games your pc is more than capable of handling the 2 best vr narratives. half life alyx and lone echo (at least 1)
i played half life alyx on a 1050 ti he’ll be fine on a 1060
Well alyx is probably the best optimized vr game
I already own Alyx
It's a good game but I just can't play anymore shooters
I'll try it later
try lone echo 1
I generally can't recommend buying games for the Quest unless they are exclusive to it. Buying games for the Quest essentially means you can only play them on the Quest unless you buy them again on a different platform, while games bought on Steam can be used with any Headset
although i doubt your system can handle the second game. the first game is still pretty good on its own
(same with buying games on the Oculus/Meta PC store btw)
What about R5 3600 and 1660 ti?
It's my brother's pc so he will let me play on it sometimes
that’ll be fine if you’re shooting for low-medium settings but ill note that the second game is pretty taxing on hardware
@restive zodiac definitely get Iron Wolf VR
it’s so much fun
you can play with friends or with random public lobbies
it’s a submarine warfare game, it’s like 4 people all have separate stations and they’re in charge of something
like one is the captain, one is in charge of aiming the torpedoes, one is in charge of loading the torpedos, and someone is in charge of the engine room
also apparently there’s destroyers you can drive but idk how that works
I remember my friend and I surfaced and we went up on top of the sub where there’s machine guns mounted and we were just messing around
Then a plane came out of nowhere and started shooting at us it scared the bujesus out of me
essay over
I made a YouTube video on it that captured that moment if you want me to send it idk what the rules are
Welp my rabbit hole keeps getting deeper. In case I haven't explained it before, I owed my sister $800 because she spotted me that amount of money last year which enabled me to spend $1700 on a 6900XT which I now overwhelmingly regret. To pay off this debt, I've been getting her stuff instead of paying her directly because that's what she prefers. I recently bought her a Reverb G2 which wiped out half my debt, but it turns out her graphics card, a 3070, can only run the G2 at 66% resolution. So, the next thing she wants me to do is sell her 3070 for her and use the money I get from selling it, along with the remaining money I owe her, and get her a graphics card that will handle the G2 better.
She gave me her quest 2 to sell but I just ended up keeping it so I technically still owe her $700. So I have $700 plus whatever her 3070 sells for as a budget. I haven't looked at GPU prices since October of last year so I have no idea what's the best thing I can get for that amount to run her G2 better. Last time I checked, the best I could get for that money is maybe an RX6800?
So yeah, I guess the question is: what's the best GPU I can buy to run the HP Reverb G2 for approximately $700 plus the current street price of a used 3070
3070 only running the G2 at 66% res? Something doesn't seem quite right here...
I run my G2 on a 2070 Mobile at 64% just fine. I think 75%-80% should be capable with the 3070, no problem. And while it may not be native res, I found that if you're close enough to native on those higher res headsets (like the G2), the lower render res really isn't that visible. Unless you compare it native vs 80% side-by-side, you probably wouldn't notice the difference...
I've only tested it in beat saber and boneworks so far. If you load the games with it at 66%, it will stutter when you first start the game, and then normalize after about ten seconds of stuttering. During that time, it's like 2 frames a second, the controllers aren't very well tracked, and ofc everything is just really laggy and unplayable. But after that ten second period ends, it looks perfectly normal and everything is good and cool.
But if you up it to say 72%, then that stuttery mess doesn't end. You can sit in the game for as long as you want, it'll stay that way until you reduce the resolution.
I don't really know if any tools are available to figure out if it is the GPU responsible or if it's something else. So I was just gonna get her a new GPU and call it a day. All I know is that the moment I launch a game, it pegs the GPU at 100% utilization and doesn't stop until you close it.
There's a chance the TV has been my issue, last time I played I put a throw on it without issues. I didn't play the game I normally have the issues with though.
Very Strange. Only two thinks I can think of that might be causing this problem:
- It might be HAGS being garbage with VR again
- The WMR runtime has it's own dynamic resolution thing. Could be possible that that one is still active and clammering resources...
I'll be going over tomorrow to discuss the issue of her GPU so I'll try disabling HAGS and see if it makes a difference. Idk how to check the WMR thing
Actually now that I think about it, the product for my quest 2 I ordered from a certain company who told me it might be defective will be arriving tomorrow. So I'll be testing a few things it seems
So it turns out HAGS is already disabled so that's not the issue
So it seems beat saber was being real weird because the game itself had an internal 1.4x resolution modifier applied to it for some reason. I've disabled that and increased the steamvr res to 80 and haven't had any issues yet
Told ya so that 80% should be doable 🙂
Motion control support for my #SaintsRow VR mod has been released!

It's a cool project
But it won't be much more than a fun experiment
Unless you get full interactions with the world around you and you gun ect it's nothing more than a flat screen displayed in VR
That looks skinny af
So it's intentional.
doesn't seem like it, a developer going by the tag in the other image forgot them at a hotel
shit like this has happened before like the iphone before it launched
Then it happened again, and again, and again.
It's a lot of hype for the cost of a single unit.
I think it's just Meta trying to copy Googles Advertising scheme. Not too long ago, a Pixel Watch was found in a restaurant not too far away from the Google Campus, but the OS was wiped beforehand, hinting at this being intentional.
Either Meta is trying to copy that scheme (just with a Hotel instead of a restaurant), or one of their NDA devs really was that stupid (which I don't think they are)
nah, meta is stupid
It looks ugly tbh
I got hands on with the upcoming PSVR 2 headset at an exclusive event at PlayStation's offices in London. In this video I give you my hands on first impressions of the new PSVR 2 headset along with a selection of exciting VR games coming to the PlayStation VR2 platform next year.

Oh look, another mmo player
wat
nothing, it's just a dead genre
at least here in the west, which makes me sad
because it is the only kind of game I truly enjoy
and basically the only thing I am waiting for before actually jumping onto VR
I’ve never played one before
is it like that one game with the open world what’s it called ugh
WoW, Runescape, Black Desert Online and Maplestory are some examples of the genre
ahh RuneScape a classic
tho most newer games die rapidly, so most don't start playing it
(to be fair, I don't either because to outdated for me)
nah
that’s the one I was thinking of is that not one?
isn’t Elden ring online multiplayer with trading and open world and stuff?
warframe, destiny 2, etc as well
because of being mission based with like 4 players at once is a Co-op RPG
Ohhh
I remember playing destiny 1 ages ago on my Xbox and not really understanding it lol
I don't really play any games right now, all of them have died or are so old they aren't worth playing anymore unless you grew up with them from the start (WoW, Maplestory and Runescape)
basically just some games with an aging population
The East has a lot more
the west doesn't get many, and when they do they die rapidly because most people here play games for 30-120 minutes which works well for FPS, moba, etc
but not for grind heavy games that are basically a second life for some and require easily 100s of hours just to get further at times
