AMD makes the amd drivers for linux, nvidia have moved a lot of their closed source stuff to usermode or the firmware, and the majority of the kernel mode driver is open source and maintainable by a larger community now... so there is definitely gpu support. ive struggled to find any steam games that dont at least run "ok" on proton, but most run well enough to not be noticeable... intel have just announced battlemage too, which they say is coming with a full linux driver

the thing that bothers me about a lot of games is that they are built in unity or unreal... and building them for linux instead of windows, is usually changing a dropdown box, and it "just works" (mostly, but not always)... not actively supporting linux is a choice by the developer or the publisher

Next time you need some software, just do a winget search <name> to see if it's available. It'll even handle dependencies if the package manifest was written well
