Is plugged into PCE slot 4, which is a gen 3x1 slot. Totally fine for audio stuff.

I was initially concerned about clearance because soundcards have exposed surface mount components like capacitors and stuff - below that slot is where my third SSD is mounted on an adapter card gen 4x4

thankfully, I did not have to move that card, which would have changed the lane assignments to both the graphics card and the SSD adapter making them both slower

The other option would’ve been to mount it in slot two, but that was covered by the fan cowling of the graphics card

The board is an asrock B550 taichi am4 for reference

The audio output on this board is meant for actual speakers or audio mixing equipment, not headphones/headset

While the front audio is very good for headphones, it seems that the microphone jack having issues is a known problem with this board and it has something to do with proximity to the power supply depending on how the components are installed

A lower wattage power supply may not have the same issues

Probably also depends on where the components are inside the power supply compared to where the front audio header is

I originally routed the front audio cable down and behind the board, kind of snugged up to the power supply, but I might change that and see if it fixes the issue. This would be awesome because it would also allow me to have a third microphone option such as a desk mount.

Most likely it won’t fix the issue, but it might help with how taut the cable seems to be

This initiative is just about getting the ball rolling in the big bureaucracy that is the EU.
