One of them is actually pretty cool
It involves usb C modding my gamecube for power, done with a step down converter as the usb pd module I'm using is 20 volts while the gamecube only takes 12 volts
only three!? amazing
yeah, 3 seems low... i think i started 3 this week š
Gotta love usb pd
USB PD FTW
anyone know if i should buy the glorious model o? im upgrading from a g502 hero
I managed to loose my other earbud and they've been lost for 8ish months
Found em yesterday and oh boy stereo is so much better
Where's the subwoofer?
i feel like average woman would hate this getup
Has anyone worked on steganography on images ... dm me
I have a little
My router gave 255.255.255.255 ip to the device
, why (rhetorical question)
Thatās not an IP, thatās more of a subnet mask
yep, it looks like a mask, it seems like a some kind of bug
the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and ip address 192.168.1.1
I just found it weird, router gave all devices ips like 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2, ..., 192.168.1.13 and the next one had got 255.255.255.255
ip mask
255.255.255.255 is a mask for the ip
Question: Iām about to build a PC when the parts arrive in the next hour. Which way should I mount my PSU? The case has good ground clearance but itās being kept on the floor so Iām thinking it would be bad to intake air from the bottom
if you host a webserver on a phone
from the top then ig
Please don't crosspost
And that wouldnāt cause any issues?
maybe
Well I was ignored on the the tech chat so I figured Iād ask these guys instead
In theory I think my airflow will be fine. The case is ~70L and Iāve got 2 Noctua NF-P12 redux fans as intakes
once arrives send pic
with details
K, Iāll post a pic of all the components and tag u
ight
I know it is supposed to be an IP mask, but my router for some reason gave it to my PC š¤·
We know Linus' opinion on framework, but, what's your opinion on framework laptops?
Cool concept too expensive
not more than apple
And it's a small company, they cant actually do mass production
Does not excuse $1000 for a laptop with an i5 and no dGPU
Ok to be honest yeah
That's the price of an m1 MacBook at the moment
Pretty much in the middle of the picture?
any laptop is upgradable if you are brave enough
(joke)
Not a joke
I know, I'm waiting for a new 240hz panel for my laptop
send pic
computers
Looks like a chair mate
Someone somehow hacked my apple id
A stool, a big black stool
that sucks
Good news is...
holy nerdcave batman
I caught it in time because I got a random 2FA request
aliexpress 7" 1920x1200 touch screen - it's custom mounted to a behringer X touch one
5.1 - there's a reciever to the right.
@undone inlet I canāt post images on here
green
demon slayer pfp, based
google seems to think it doesnt exist....
yeah, i had same result which is very odd to me
does this mean my cpu is ..counterfeit ?
what does cpu-z think it is?
oh does this not let us post screenshots until we hit a certain level or something?
it says ryzen 7 5700 (no x)
only special people get to post pictures
you can post it in #tech-chat-1
yeah, which is straight garbage, and not at all like a 5700X
T_T i see
i dont..wanna say D:
its too late now ... i havent had any problems with it to be fair...
oh well. as long as its not counterfeit and gonna catch my rig on fire i can handle it
are you in the EU? cuz in the EU you have like a week to return something from the internet no matter the reason, by law
I got it in january and i am in the US
2 weeks actually
i just been getting this issue with TPM and what not and it apparently not working for some reason so i tried looking into if its even supported by my cpu and couldnt even find my cpu online
oof
are you trying to install Windows 11? there's an easy bypass for that.
computer already has windows 11
yeah by law you have 2 weeks to return but obv postage takes a while
what are you needing the TPM for then?
So I've done some thinking, usb pd runs at 20 volts @ 5 amps, I need to bump that down to 12 volts @ 3.25 amps to get 39 watts so I was thinking of using a xl4015 module
.... >_< android apps on windows requires it
ah. stupid question but why do you need that? android apps are shit on a desktop.
Just use emulator
But a lot of them are quite slow in terms of switching
does it need to be 12V? you can get 9 or 15 out of PD
It has to be 12v
@toxic needle there's always https://www.bluestacks.com/ if you must use an android app on Windows.
As it's what the original psu took
also 15V regulated to 12V is more effecient
yes, but it will have a range of inputs.
idk i just wanted a certain android app to run on my pc but i have since already found a comparable app on teh windows store that does the job better anyways
Isn't 15 volts optional?
idk i don't use it lmao, if i need a mobile app i just use my phone
If anyone's got a bunch of $$$ burning a hole in their pocketses, and wants to build a stupid powerful server/workstation grade box:
https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-9hmc62g41mr-hn8-supports-amd-ryzen-threadripper-pro-series-3000wx/p/N82E16813145389
I was thinking 20 volts cause it's mandatory for the usb pd spec
my phone is too small to read manga properly
all of my USB PD power bricks do 15V
i wanted to read them on my big phat thicc pc monitor
USB PD is a number of output voltages.
There's optional voltages on the spec
Specificly 12 volt so that's why I'm gonna get a higher voltage and bump it down
Why you app for that?
there's tons of shady apps for that on android
basically pirate manga libraries
i just buy Manga books, like actual old school paper books, much nicer than using a phone to read imo
You never interacted with those apps, right?
I can't read paper manga at work
thing is desktop crunchyroll app doesnt have manga section but mobile version does ...
or at least, that would get some very very very odd looks
Actual proof I buy paper copies
but on my phone reading manga is a pain bedcause its so dang tiny T_T
I am about app ui
not a pirate confirmed
Just go to website and read there, it's same link anyway
what?
right there lmao
thats the website i just wanted to try the app
...? the website is better anyway
it wasnt a necessity or anything it just lead me to find out my cpu doesnt really seem to be official
buy it on paper and scan it in? idk? there's ways to read it on phone without pirating
i only buy manga if they arent on cr
like yotsuba
Crunchyroll Manga app available on your iPhone or Android!
Download Crunchyroll Manga app on your phone and enjoy latest simulpubs! >:D SEE they got a special app for just manga!
things would be easier if i had a good sized tablet
In theory colour e-ink would be perfect for comics. Unfortuately the cost is too prohibitive.
i don't mind buying Manga on paper, since i like collecting physical stuff like cd's anyway
Same
is selling used ddr4 ram still worth it
Me either, though not comics/manga in my case, but rather books. But carrying them around when you want to go anywhere can get heavy fast. So a convienient digital way to consume them on the go is helpful and keeps the collection more pristine.
i mean, you can scan paper copies to pdf's
Yes, but it is more the medium of consumption rather than the format. Ie a good quality e-ink screen will be heaps better than an OLED in sunlight and have much better battery life. But the cost would be stupid sadly.
well i find that i never need paper copies of books thanks to a little app called libby
but its a lot easier to read a ebook than a digital manga... š
selling it gets you more than 0 dollars, so yes?
Does anyone know of a cheap case that supports at least 6 HDD bays, but 4 is acceptable as well (preferably 6 or more though)?
well i need 2x16 sticks and i currently have 4x8 sticks so im asking if itll help me recoup the costs a lil bit
So far people have suggested fractal Define 7 and Haf 700, which are $350 and $400 respectively. Waaaaay too expensive.
selling stuff gets you money, so yes? I'm confused about the question
what're the requirements?
given how cheap ram prices are, should i sell the ram or am i better off paying more and having spare sticks
that's up to you, not someone else
An older fractal design define r5 if you can find one would probably be quite cheap second hand.
I want it to act like a NAS (sort of). It's mainly for cheap storage as I want to add 20TB HDDs that I want to be accessible over my WiFi. So the only requirement is that is has at least 6 HDD bays. It doesn't matter what it looks like.
How many bays does it have? I'll check it out - thanks
6 is fairly easy. (Some people go asking for like 12+ which is stupid rare)
Phanteks has a number of cases that support 7 drives.
It can vary. Can be anywhere from 3 to 14 IIRC. Depends what cages you install
heyhey lttcord
I love Phanteks cases! My current build uses Phanteks NV7
Which phanteks case would you recommend for this?
if I rebuild my system, that's on the short list of cases I wanna get
It looks so good. It was a lot bigger than I expected though, almost reaches the top of my desk lol.
the NV7 ain't small lol, that I do know lol
My server uses a Define R5 with 6 HDDs plus 1 SSD in it. Room for at least 3-4 more HDDs and another SSD at least, possibly more depending upon where you put various parts.
Some people struggle with the concept that value is subjective. Humanity hasnāt recovered from this misconception
The Define R5 might actually be just what I'm looking for. It only costs $120. I think this is what I will go with. Thank you.
Enthoo Evolv X supports up to 10 3.5's. (You need to buy a few extra sleds tho, it only comes with 4 drives worth, but the sleds are cheap.)
NP. I've got 4 of them and they are great cases.
The R5 is also a bitchin' case
4? Damn do you have a room full of PCs or what
I barely have room for 1 more case, not even sure where I'm gonna put just one R5
If you can live with 5 drives? The Jonsbo N1 is a beautiful NAS mITX case
And is literally the size of a shoebox
2 servers, 2 desktops. Though I replaced one with a Thermaltake Core V21 to make it smaller and lighter due to back problems. The servers were originally in different locations so the plan is to reduce those down to one at some point.
Absolutely stunning. Love it. 5 is more than enough. That's 100 TB right there with 5x20TB drives. More than enough. https://i.imgur.com/YKZdVol.png
one of the desktops is my other halfs PC too.
A little more expensive than the R5, but worth it due to the size
I have one, and it's gorgeous. It has optional feet to use, so it can run standing up, too, instead of laying down.
Even better
Hmm out of stock right now š of course
Hello what are your best recommendation for OS that can save old laptop?
hope pricerunner can help
Remember im in eu tho, I know for a fact i'd pay MINIMUM half of it's total price as an import fee + tax
how old is old?
I will try pricerunner.dk
check AliExpress, jonsbo sells there
Thats a nice looking case. I kinda wish it wasn't miniITX as that really limits options for server usage, ie if you want to add 10GBps networking or something like a HBA.
i don't trust the chinese
I found it in my country!!
For sony vaio 2012
you realize most case manuf's are chinese, right?
I was just messing around, most things these days are made in china
Found it. In stock. Yay! https://www.proshop.dk/Kabinet/Jonsbo-N1-Grey-mini-itx-Kabinet-Graa/3166172
It has 16gig of memory ram and 960ssd
dope! Enjoy the case, it's awesome š
you can get itx cases with 10gb networking. Do you need the HBA, tho? It only supports 5 drives, and hardware RAID is bad.
Thanks man, I appreciate the help. This truly is the perfect case for me.
No, the HBA isn't really required tbh.
Lol
Not sure how to turn it into a server as I haven't built one before, but I can imagine that after building it like you would a normal PC you just set some specific settings on Windows and let it run 24/7. I will probably not use Windows for this machine though most likely going with Linux
5 drives would be plenty though really to replace the two servers (running on i7 6700Ks with 4x4Tb+1Tb+120Gb SSD/4x3Tb+1Tb+240Gb SSD)
If you're building a NAS? TrueNAS Scale is a great starting point, with plenty of flexibility, and tutorials
What is a cheap configuration for this machine? I need the cheapest possible GPU + cheapest possible CPU that won't hinder performance. I will simply use it as cold storage from which I should be able to upload/download files on my main machine
I'll check it out
What do you need a GPU For?
Get a CPU that has onboard graphics.
Oh right, I forgot they existed lol
I bet AMD has a nice Ryzen CPU with integrated graphics
most intel, and ryzen 7000's have onboard.
2200Gs go for like 40 bucks
if you go Ryzen 5000, tho, you need a G-sku for graphics
and older intel goes even cheaper since it's only cold storage you won't need beefy GPU
IE: 5600G or 5700G (the 5700 or 5700X do not have iGPUs)
All the ones with G have integrated graphics?
for AMD, yes.
I will try and find the cheapest one then
on Intel: Anything Non-F sku has an iGPU
Unfortuately until such time as I move away from Plex I'm pretty much stuck with using Intel CPUs unless I want to add an nVidia GPU.
What if I want Plex as well as just using it for cold storage? would ryzen 2200G still suffice?
I will mostly be storing movies/series but also photos
I mean, pms can run on a potato
PMS?
Ahh
Alright well the AMD Ryzen 3 3200G is pretty cheap
4 core/4 thread only tho, but if what you're saying is true I guess it's alright
only $80
Do the G variants come with the ryzen stock "wraith" cooler or do you need to buy that separately?
Why is a 450W PSU more expensive than a 750W PSU? https://i.imgur.com/pnGQqB6.png
The reason for needing an Intel CPU with iGPU is Plex on Linux only supports QuickSync or nVidia NVENC.
You know how reheating cold cooked food is faster than cooking up a new meal?
Reheating cold boiled water is faster than freshly boiling water
They seem to have no interest in supporting AMD iGPU or dGPUs
So I'm basically forced to use Intel if I want plex as well? @broken folio
Only if you want hardware accelerated transcoding. Which you need to pay for Plex Pass for anyway.
You pay for plex?
Yes
Monthly?
It's a solid service
You don't have to pay for plex pass
But you get more features if you do
Monthly, yearly and lifetime
I have a lifetime PlexPass as it was on offer for a ridiculous price one year.
I have been trialing jellyfin, but so far it just isn't quite there for me.
I'll probs upgrade to lifetime eventually
W
I can't stand jellyfin
Plexamp is a really decent piece of software
It currently is about the best Open Source alternative with no payment requirements or 'phone home' things.
Yeah, setting one up is on my to do list
My pihole is set up with a display
Wow what is that aspect ratio
So I don't even need to bring up the page if I'm checking status
It's a scrolling screenshot
I thought you were using those cadbury chocolate bar phones
Nah it's just a s22u

Plus it's rarely broken anyways and it's my dhcp server so my parents don't have to worry about dns settings
Does it just use a regex for the domain?
I just use public lists
I'll just try the free version of plex but first things first, I have to somehow find a good deal on 5x20TB HDDs š
wtf are these prices https://i.imgur.com/P9azQAK.png
https://firebog.net/
Go to for any pihole install
Pi-hole compatible blocklists for you to have a more enjoyable online presence
I wonder what percentage of analytics it catches
Iāll probably get a pi hole at some point
Yeah, it is best to try it for free at first. You might find you don't need the plex pass features (which are mostly to do with transcoding on demand using hardware (Intel iGPU/Quicksync or nVidia NVENC) and a few things related to music)). You could try plex pass if you needed for a month and see if you need the features as well. You can get around the transcoding by creating optimised versions for different devices too.
5x20TB Seagate X20 costs $1903 in my country... Man that shit is expensive.
I'll just start with 1 lol
Yeah, HDDs have gotten quite expensive
I thought HDDs were supposed to be cheap. They were cheap last time I checked (a few years ago)
Not really
HDD are cheap
I love plexamp as I have a massive ass music library
SSDs have gotten cheap
They are
SSDs are stupid cheap now
depends what you're looking at, large capacity HDDs for NAS use are not cheap
I think $300 for one 20TB HDD isn't cheap
What genres are you most into?
Likewise.
Hdds are cheaper in bulk. Ssds are the better option rn if you only need a couple tb in a gaming machine
Well no shit
That hasnāt changed
HDD by gigabyte are much cheaper than SSDs
I mean, cheap per tb, just not cheap per item
Classical, jazz, vgm
Nice! What instruments do you play?
How big is ya library?
None, but I hope to learn piano eventually
Or organ...
Some think hdds are dead. Far from it. Plenty of people not ready to move 40+TB to ssds. And those people will keep buying hdds as they die untill the bulk upgrade path is cheap enough
Currently not very big as I removed a lot to go through it and tidy up the tags etc. But prior to that it was 2Tb.
hdds are dead from a desktop computing perspective
Jeepers, mines only about 70gb
plenty powerful
I mean it's gonna be faster than a pi
5700g can be found for 110 used on ebay if your US
a NAS doesn't need a lot of horsepower
I have a large music library, and eclectic tastes, plus my other half added his tastes which are eclectic to the library.
Dang. I think itās pretty rare for people who donāt play to be into classical and jazz
But how are you gonna watch "cartoons" and "live action films" when the internet goes down?
I'm in EU
What kind of discussion did you think it was?
in regular home desktops, HDDs should be dead. Given the price, there's no reason for 2TB or less to be a HDD.
You want some CPU grunt for RAID rebuilding as the CPU has to do all that calculation work unless you offload to a hardware raid setup, which isn't worth it these days.
for large-scale storage? HDDs are alive and well, when using 8TB+ Drives
I have 4TB HDDs in use
Why would the internet go down?
I just enjoyed the music, mainly cause I liked the sound of it and I never liked rap music unlike the rest of my generation
and a 3400 is fine for that
Because people do live in developing and underdeveloped countries
Have u tried that gpt search thing that's in plexamp?
I use a 6700k mostly because it became redundant after upgrading.
I tried it once with some trial credits and it didn't really work out
Didn't even realise it was a feature, I've not looked at Plexamp in a while.
Does the Ryzen 5 3700G work with a B450 chipset board?
the 3400 will only be marginally slower than the 6700k
Yep
ASrock has a nice one for like $40
yep
Cool thanks
ITX, right?
Gotcha. There was a time I was into classical and rap at the same time lol
It says "micro-ATX" not sure if that's the same as ITX tbh. I've only worked with full-size ATX
bro why is the default eq settings of the sony xm5 so bad?
no, mATX is bigger than ITX
How would that cause the internet to go down?
Metal, Rock, Blues typically is what most of my music is. But theres a fair amount of electronic, goth and other genres thrown in the mix.
Does the Jonsbo N1 require ITX?
yes
Ngl organ is gotta be one of my favourite instruments
Anyone, the best EQ settings for the sony wh1000xm5?
k
This and that happening at where and when
Pipe organ
Alright well, almost twice as expensive but it's ok still. https://i.imgur.com/GC5miNM.png
Mini-ITX = ITX right? they're the same, no? or is mini-itx an even smaller ITX?
It's just so otherworldly about it
You know, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions
sub-100 bucks for an ITX board is pretty cheap
Heavenly so to speak, or dreadful
Wait I forgot something. How am I supposed to connect more than 4x SATA components if most PSUs only have like a few inputs for SATA drives?
For now I will be buying one 20 TB HDD, but in the future i'd want to fill the Jonsbo N1 completely
just... get a power supply with more connections
Oh. I thought you meant something like public key cryptography breaking
Anyone know any good NAS specific PSUs with lots of SATA inputs?
you don't need 5 connectors, the backplane uses 2
dude. PKI is fine. large prime PKI not so much.
What do you mean?
youtube a review of the case: There's a SATA Backplane to make it easier to work on/with.
... yes. except it's a backplane.
not a hub, a backplane. They're quasi similar, but not really
I see, thanks. First time I've heard the term
I wanna rackmount my server but it's not really necessary atm
it's a backplane because it's a plane that goes at the back
If you get one drive you won't be able to use RAID of course, and if you get more drives later and wish to create a RAID array you'll need to create a new array, transfer from the single drive and then add that drive to the array and rebuild it. If you want to use RAID5 you need to use a minimum of 3 drives.
Plus it's 4th gen Intel lol
you don't š
you can raid5 2 drives.
How much RAM would you recommend for this system? 8 seems like more than enough if it's just going to act like cold storage or possibly run plex in the future. @hearty spear
Yes, but not recommended really!
8gb will be fine
Just a note people: Don't take random strangers advice on the internet as gospel.
People fuck things up regularly, intentionally or not.
Listen, but verify what you're told about things.
16 if you wanna run mc servers
Plex can get memory hoggish with large libraries.
Is there PKI that isnāt susceptible to quantum computation?
8 or 16 is plenty. 16gb is pretty cheap now.
Yeah might just go for the 16GB honestly - It is very cheap
DDR4 is really inexpensive
It is almost throw away cheap, especially for a server/NAS where you don't need the highest speed memory.
I threw 48Gb in one of the 6700K servers and it cost about £30
for a NAS imo, 2400mhz ram is plenty fast enough
let me check out the price
hell even 2133mhz ram is probably perfectly fine for a nas.
Eh price difference is like 5-10 USD I'll stick with the 3200MHz i think
Sometimes when I listen to music, I get this feeling that everything is incredibly stupid and nonsensical, it feels like humans have survived for too long
I get this feeling just being in public
Lots of idiots out there
Like I've seen some videos that make me incredibly disappointed in my generation
Gen z is terrible
Cause we had access to the internet
The internet definitely has its drawbacks
Gen Z confuse me lol
The internet gave impressionable gen z's access to Twitter and politics
And vaping is very common as well
Tbh, that was true for Gen X too, just it was things like IRC instead.
It's heart wrenching
It's not as worse, trust me
Vaping is a bit of a timebomb. Its great for getting peoople off of smoking cigarettes.
GenZ is not. Gen X and other groups were just as stupid. It just wasn't documented for the world to see.
Anyway, so I have the following:
CPU: Ryzen 5 3400G (comes with cooler) - $122
Mobo: ASRock Fatal1ty B450 - $130
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB 3200 MHz - $46
Case: Jonsbo N1 - $165
Storage: 1x20 TB SeaGate X20 - $381
Total: $844
Did I forget to include anything here?
why not
It kinda is
SFX PSU
In my personal opinion
Oh shit yeah the PSU
because the whole point of RAID5 is parity/redundancy, running it with 2 drives removes that.
it doesn't though
Any recommendations?
it is not. I'm gen x, We did more than our fair share of stupid.
We just didn't have cameras with us to record it.
(Or if Gen X did have a camera, it involved film and paying to get it developed)
RAID5 two drives is basically raid1, but it's much easier to expand, because it's "RAID5"
You mean ryzen 7 5700g?
Whoops I actually meant Ryzen 5 3400G
RAID5 three drives is A1 XOR B1 = C1 , A2 XOR C12= B2
Two drives is just A1 = B1, B2= A2
Ah. I guess you could create a RAID1 array and convert it to RAID5 too, similarly you could in theory convert a RAID5 to a RAID6 array. Though I wouldn't really recommend either if theres no data backup already in place (remembering of course that RAID != backup)
Well you probably do know more than me
you shouldn't do ANYTHING without a backup š
Yeah, film was fairly cheap by the 80s and 90s, but it was a chore to send it off an get it developed.
That's the main difference:
Back in the day we didn't have any way to share our dumbassery with the world.
What were we gonna do? Rotary Dial a phone and tell everyone? lololol
It's just, that from tide pods to other nonsense it makes me incredibly sorry about my generation
Of course!
Dude, snorting smarties was a trend for a while.
Kids are fucking STUPID. it's not a new thing.
in the early-mid 90s you could post it on a BBS or something like Compuserve/AOL I guess.
Would a 500W PSU suffice for this? I could probably maybe even do 450W, no?
do you know how few people had BBS access lol?
with a ton of room to spare. That whole system will be under 200w max
I mean, I did. And my experience is universal š
Well what's worse, snorting smarties or eating tide pods
yes. I had Compuserve access in the early-mid 90s. But BBS access was not common, though my fathers work meant that it could be accessed when required (he worked for Sun).
but the awesome thing about the internet from the late 90s/early 2000s is that most of it is lost to the sands of time
I speak for everyone when I say I agree
Chemical Pneumonia or Puking?
Ah I see. Perfect. So uhh this might be a dumb question, but I would love to hear it from you as you have this exact case and experience with ITX systems whereas I don't.
Does a normal size PSU fit in this case or do I need some kind of... ITX type PSU?
I'm probs rambling so I'll stop now
you need a SFX PSU
Oh right you mentioend that earlier - my bad
let's not forget the fact that we can make documentation easier is also why many stupid things happen, aka clout chasers
maybe Gen Z do act more stupid
Kids in the 80s and 90s were recreating wrestling moves in the school playgrounds. Kids are dumb in general, regardless of generation. Hell, kids in the 40s in places like London were playing in bombsites where there could be an unexploded german bomb under the rubble.
Very true:
Kids today can make BANK on their stupidity.
Unlike in the 80's where we did it for the lulz
Gen Z's issue is not accepting different opinions well
tiktok pay jackshit
New idea, get rid of kids
Have you met any boomers?
Twitter gen zs give boomers a run for their money lol
Kids that weren't send to places like Wales would use the various bombed out buildings as play areas during the war years in London and the home counties.
all generations suck balls and always will
Decriminalize front yard landmines
generations arent as different as people think, it's just a cycle of the same shit, but in a new way
scratch kids: Make it humans
look up on youtube sometime some of the banned toys that were sold to kids throughout the years
What's that about lawn darts?
some of them are truely bonkers how they thought they'd be workable as kids toys.
There is a odd feeling of peace thinking about getting destroyed under nuclear fire but yet fear
lawn darts, radioactive toys etc
It's a weird feeling imo
Less effective than front yard landmines
I live within blast radiius of boston, I don't need to worry, I'ma just be dead.
Watch the BBC series Threads sometime. Thats how kids in the 70s and earlier were being taught what would happen.
I didn't know be quiet! made PSUs. Are they reliable? Found this, but it's bronze cert only lol. Not sure if that makes any difference in the simple NAS i am building. https://i.imgur.com/CLyBcIL.png
by the 80s it wasn't as prevailent thankfully, so nuclear drills were no longer a thing.
It's only $87
BeQuiet is generally solid, and for a NAS it's great/
Which one are you using?
EVGA something
I'm already prepped for a nuclear apocalyptic scenario
RIP EVGA š
Got that fallout music
Bequiet, Seasonic, EVGA generally all decent for most uses
Nice
they still make PSUs
I don't think they will be around for much longer
but i have no evidence to back that claim
We shall see. Their PSU business is fairly lucrative.
NVidia made more money off the GPUs than EVGA did.
I've checked and I'm in the blast radius for a nuke from china
I'm sick of Nvidias shitty prices, my newest build is all AMD
6950 XT is more than enough for my needs and cost faaaaaar less than the nvidia equivalent (in my country at least)
AMDs gpu's are great buys, unless you need NVidia tech specifically
Almost everyone in the world is.
I think the dementia's setting in...
Yeah I love my 6950 XT ā¤ļø
Our best hope against nVidia and their shitty practices and pricing is Intel coming out with a semi-good card to compete with the 4080 class cards. I think 4090 class cards is unrealistic to hope for from Intel's Battlemage, maybe Celestial will give it a run.
add a function that sends people's credit card info to me so i can buy a better NAS setup

Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, GeForce RTX 3080 10GB, Cooler Master MasterBox NR200 Mini ITX Desktop
and put that malware on other people's PC (for educational purposes)
The trouble is AMD is very much focused on the iGPU range as they make so much money from SoCS using their GPU tech.

I should be sleeping, but I can't
And make them all purchase a dozen screwdrivers and a few backpacks each.
I'm vibing to dreadful music
yes make sure when they open a browser it opens ltt store dot com
A good starting place is probably to get off your phone my friend...
I meant when you originally said that the internet was gonna break. Not with with the added information that it was gonna be related to underdeveloped places
What I like to do is put a video about space or nature on and just listen to that. I highly recommend "the history of the universe" channel on YT. their videos are incredibly interesting, but the guy speaking has such a soothing voice that they can also be used for sleeping. Works flawlessly every time for me
And of course stop writing here

YES!!!
my first tought
linux is op so now i can't brick my pc accidenly
Just delete /boot
sudo rm -rf -f /
This works -f forces it
That will legit break your system if linux
My server does not want to execute that command
I want a working server lol
@hearty spear thank you for all the help. I got a really solid system for just $940 (a single 20TB HDD is ~41% of the total š - that is fucking nuts but whatever)
That single HDD is almost half the god damn system
my box cost me a bit over 1 grand in drives. (5x12TB)
Man I wish computersalg store was near me so I could rob them, but it's like 6 hour drive
Hopefully I'll be working next year so I can save up for a upgrade to my nas
Nice
RAID Z2, so it's only about 30TB of usable space, but I really don't wanna have to fix shit if it breaks later.

hey i need some help
i have a high internet speed but i am downloading a file through utorrent and the download speed there is very slow like 500 KBps, how do i fix this issue?
Just not true. Generationas are meaningless. Poeple are people no matter when they were born. Some are great some are complete.... well you get the idea.
get the peers you're downloading from faster internet š
i shall make op pc thats 5000$
which is stupid, but you do you
can you reframe this sentence? I couldn't understand
do you know what a peer is in torrenting?
I can easily spec out a pc that costs 10k+
nope
then you shouldn't be torrenting
cuz you're prolly gonna get nasty letters sent to your ISP, and then to you.
you realize that torrenting is illegal, right? And also against server rules.
Talking about generic stuff is allowed, but that's it.
damn i didn't know sorry
On my main system I paid more for fans than I did for my CPU šļø š šļø (300 for CPU vs 350 for fans)
am i gonna get banned now or smth?
Torrentting itself is not illegal btw
watching pirated movies for free is also illegal but almost everyone does it
Legal stuff can be distributed via torrent
technically it's not, but the vast majority of use cases are lol
Such as my large collection of linux ISOs
nah bro I download movies for educational purposes dont worry about it
it's to educate myself on whether the movie is good or not - it's totally legit

what do you need a threadripper for
It's a joke build
just clicked the link, 24k USD?
It's supposed to cost as much as a new car
yeah holy shit. 4k monitor?
Nah that's kangaroo dollars
still expensive
8k
lmao my laptop was just 700 dollars and i can play a lotta games
honestly even if i had the money for that shit, i'd rather save it and buy a nice car
same
What is that a deal?
No can do mate
and no use spending that much money on pc unless ur like professionally gaming or stuff
That's actually a super shitty PC for gaming
no i mean why would you spend 24k on a pc
I could probs build something similar in pc building simulator 2
Is there any point in upgrading to the Ryzen 9 7940hs with the framework 16 rather than using the ryzen 7 7840hs?
if you really need the extra CPU power for work tasks, maybe?
But for general use, not at all
if you do somethign that involves a heavily-threaded workload that takes time, the 9 might be worth it. Otherwise, it's a waste

Question: its 32c outside and while gaming my gpu hits 75 to 85 is that safe?
It's in spec
in normal temps gpu almost never crossed 65
wdym?
That temperature is still in specs of manufacturer tolerance
so its safe?
Yes
how long can the gpu indure such temps?
how do i know i have airflow?
like fans?
Yes
You fine, just don't put pc under direct sun light
And get ready, because+40 is coming to all of Europe
It will get worse, before it gets better
when will these temps go away
We are facing a crisis right now with global weather patterns changing. They will continue to change over time. All you can do is prepare for higher temperatures and potentially more flooding rains and so on. Try to learn about the risks your region faces and go from there.
Adapter to weather
Someone I know who lives in Arizona had their air conditioner stop working during the dangerous heatwave theyāre currently experiencing. I had to advise them that they should get a temporary window unit because there could be a large demand for replacement parts, and it could be some time before the air conditioning is working again depending on the cause of failure. They canāt just not have air conditioning, as temperatures are dangerously high.
this also argues the question of where people should be living & where we should be building things
Suggest them to get a lot of big lifs plants
My suggestion is to not live in a hot & arid place where the water has to be pumped in
Arizona is in a heat wave from April to October lol
And they want to put a chip fab in this place
Uh
There already is a big ass chip fab there

Intel Chandler facility is pretty big
Last time I was there I saw all the cranes for their new addition
Yes, Iām sure the amount of water available will definitely increase as global temperatures climb

yo could someone help me im so confused
So i cleaned my cpu heatsink and fan a bit ago but now that i got everything set up my cpu speeds are going as low at 0.6 ghz and back up to around 4.4 ghz and would appreciate some help
Are they dropping when under full load?
its just randomly fluctuating
i dont know if i fucked something up
CPUs clocks will drop down when not in use. If it clocks down when it should be running max clocks (say a run of cinebench) then you have an issue.
Yeah thatās what is happening right now why is why Iām kinda scared lol

But this comes from a guy who runs a system with a phase change cpu cooler rated for 3000watts of coolimg
I'm wondering, is there any decent 8TB HDDs in a 2.5" form factor that are NOT a SSD?
By my standards all your cpus run hot
Cool story
lol
-60c when not averclocking
Did you catch my pun there?
In the end I might still settle with a 2.5" 8TB SSD
Reliable 8 tb 2.5 inch hdd š¤
I wouldnāt do it.
The 2.5 inch SMR drives honestly not worth it
I'm not planning for speed here, also doing daily backups of it anyways
No
then it'll be a 8TB SSD.
What's the use case?
energy saving home server,
we have the worlds highest electricity prices here and my current server can not make it thru the day when being powered by my solar panels alone + LiFePO4 battery
so I'ma set up that Intel NUC I have with two SSDs inside (system and VMs) and one external drive for data storage
HDD's consume much more energy than SSDs
I just saw a great video of an 18W home server, I'll send it
people from the US of A usually don't have those problems, your electricity is dirt cheap compared to our prices here (>50cents per kWh)

I have that video in my "water later" queue on YouTube, haven't watched it yet
It's solid
will do that very soon, looks fancy too but I would like a 1U or 2U 19" rack form factor, so it fits in my network rack
You very much could fit this in a rack, the motherboard is extremely low profile
plus it has four 2.5gb NICs built into the board
I have spent 6 hours building a PC and Iāve only just started the windows installation. I want to kms
that sounds expensive
Building a PC or killing myself?
either I guess
Hehe, ironically KMS (Key Management Services) is a great way to activate windows for freee
Double entendre on accident
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804575183967.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt
Surprisingly cheap, under $200 USD including the onboard intel SOC
The only reason it took 6 hours is cuz itās my first PC. I nearly broke the motherboard but all good
Actually I paid full price for a license
Rookie mistake, homie
Actually it was very deliberate
Oh really?
I'm very curious what was so deliberate about it
I just wanted to do it the legal way
KMS is very much legal
KMS lol I resorted to that tactic too cause yea it works and using MS documents against them hehe
To clarify, there are sketchy services that do illegal things involving KMS, but doing it yourself is not illegal, and it is not necessary to use those sketchy services
hello
Windows 11 has been achieved

Iām glad itās pretty chill in the netherlands
Question: I used a 64GB stick to install windows. Itās now FAT32 and thinks itās 32GB in file explorer. Now that Iām done, how to I make it 64GB again?
Search "Format disk" in windows start menu
Find the disk, delete its existing volumes, format to NTFS, create new simple volume
Whatās happening to YouTube subscription why I get refunded About start of July?
YT Premium, or specific channel subscription?
Did it, thanks
You're welcome!
Three other things I'd recommend for a fresh windows install:
https://ninite.com/
https://www.startallback.com/ (If you're on Win 11)
https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10
The easiest, fastest way to update or install software. Ninite downloads and installs programs automatically in the background.
StartAllBack restores taskbar, start menu, context menus, explorer, sanity, style and order!
With the freeware O&O ShutUp10++, unwanted Windows 10 and 11 features can be disabled and the transfer of sensitive personal data onto Microsoft prevented.
O&O is still around?
I remember using their defrag tool back in 2001 or so
I have no clue how to use any of these or what they do
startallback.com triggered my firewall, because I GEO block russia
Iāve been using windows 11 since launch without any of these apps, I donāt know if I need them
I dont use Windows 11 at all, because in my opinion (!!) it is a step back with its new GUI
installing games from epic onto an smb share because all my portable drives are borked
13900k down to $409, what a deal.
add another $200 for the cooling
(warning: may contain humor/sarcasm)
you get a cheaper 13900k and a very quality liquid cooler for the price of a normal 13900k
I'm still on my old Ryzen 5 3600X, don't need anything newer and/or faster. Does everything well that I need
I love how you can clearly see the air quality around roads is worse.
you should be okay for most games
that thing has several more years left
I dont really play games anymore either
also: I absolutely hate when windows says ... blahblah Im rebooting... with its rotating thingie, but nothing happens, not even Windows update, nothing and it will stay like that until all eternity
Should i pull the dumbest decision ever sell the xr and get a p20 pro
my 8yo has a huawai p20 pro
he loves it, as did his mum before she upgraded
Or an a34 or an a54
The p20 pro is dirt cheap atm ahere i live
And theyre all in a great shape
Software security is what scares me
Otherwise id 100% buy one
Should i do it? Im actually down for doing it
Because i wont have to spend any extra money
p20pro has a HUGE following on xda-developers, can get plenty of custom roms built with latest security updates
Actually ill have some extra cash when i do
I can use it to buy a new strap for my wTch
Youre kidding. There is no fucking way it has an unlocked bootloader.
hmm for some extremely strange reason I can't access a windows SMB share, the service is running, even with disabled firewall cant access the share.
User isn't locked
share is even set for "everyone"
what could it be
theres a LineageOS build for it
Im doing it. Im fucking doing it.
Iām a huge sucker for lineageos
Im also sorry for using fuck
I only use it when i get excited
you will be fucking sorry.... š
very interesting but not suprising
Mhm
Darkly ironic how even if there wasnāt a pandemic going on, we would still really want to wear an N95 or similar respiratory protection, because the air quality is so drastically horrible
Speaking of air quality, I do think itās worth people getting filters for their computer cases and consoles
Dust buildup inside of things can definitely lead to premature component failure and degradation of performance over time and also itās just really gross to have all the crap accumulated in there
you would hate my pc then

i set mine up in a way where dust is minimised, its easier than bothering to clean them

is it worth to get the asus rog strix g15 2022 laptop?
It's amazing how many stores only sell garbage in person, but sell nice stuff online...I can buy so many different flash drives here in town, but if I want a SanDisk or Samsung one, it's 6 day shipping.
I'm guessing it's because they can trick more people into buying e-waste that way, but it's such a bummer
A guy selling a cheap PC claiming because his son died so that's why it's cheap, but dude has a america phone number in Canada do I trust?
Sorry, both tech chats are a bit fast for me atm.
I'm giving a 2060 super strix + 2x16 kingston fury 3200mhz (brand new) and I'm getting a Xfx 6800. Is it a good deal?
Only if you can meet him in a public place to buy it (and test it) obviously.
@south stone shipping only
So. Printers. what's the least crap wireless printer? I fucing hate this piece of shit i swear. this HP DeskPrint thing requires an app to function, have the device printing from connected to its weird WAN signal thing..idk it's shit.
I've had the best luck with Brother and Canon
6800 is almost double the performance of the 2060S, and RAM is dirt cheap right now, so if you're not in need of the RAM I'd say yeah that's a great fucking deal
2060S sold for ~$180 on ebay, that RAM ~$80, so $260 total best-case
6800 sold for $400+
Only only downside is that the 6800 (non xt) doesnt have the box
Which isn't really a deal breaker, but I've kept all my boxes since I started the upgrade path in 2006-ish. š
boxes are trophies
They are nice to have because when you sell something people kind of want the box as if it was "a brand new card".
Ah. I run my hardware until it breaks, so that's why I find it weird
I'm certain you can find someone online with the same GPU who's willing to part with their box
I looked on ebay with no luck so far, i'll keep looking lol
anyone know how to use PiP while playing a game and it not messing everything up
Wait really
I think it might be a skill issue-
there's a store around here that carries almost exclusively Kingston products at really good prices
might be worth looking at smaller stores
I'd ask in AMD/Hardware subreddits, I doubt anyone is actively selling that specific model

Hello are European shipping costs for lttstore.com ever go down? It's so expensive but I want a water bottle
Blame the gov't, probably not.
whats crazy is shipping is 20$ for US

wouldve bought something on mousepad day

They are probably taking a margin on the shipping costs, because their product prices are pretty attractive

Depends on the product, some of them have high handling costs
anyone know how to use PiP while playing a game and it not messing everything up
you don't, grab a 2nd monitor
what's a good way to sell an old computer if I'm upgrading, or at least its parts?
i don have 200$
Unless you're ok with increased input latencies from not playing the game at fullscreen
woah woah who said it had to be a nice monitor?
thats fine its not that much
used 1080p monitors ftw
I did Im not buyign a square monitor
hit alt enter in the game, normally it should force the game in or out of fullscreen
bruh I've gotten 1080p thin bezels for 20 cad
no like when Im moving it clicks on the Pip windows and its not playble
Square monitors are actually really expensive my guy
oh that's just kinda how it is
it can be very expensive**
where from temu or some shti
no, used
Borderless fullscreen + firefox PiP has always worked for me
Was shipping to Europe free last Friday?!
a 4:3 old Dell monitor can be had for like $5 nowdays
Rip
I find old 16:9 1080p monitors by my apartment dumpster all the time
Some games cursor isolate (???) just doesn't work lmao
Im not tryna use firefox
Sounds like you're shit outta luck then
well having chrome open with a game running seems counterintuitive
Not for the games I play, I suppose. I do it almost every time I play
Your options are either a cheap 2nd monitor (doesn't need to be garbage to be cheap), or just don't
also can you not like prop up your phone with a small redbull can and just play a video that way, sitting beside you?
Or do what I described, seems to depend on the game
I have my old ultrawide mounted to the wall above my main monitor
it's basically a glorified clock
If I get the audio coming from my pc then its fine
most people use ultra wide as the main monitor
hold on discord on an ultrawide? thats a lot of grey
ultrawide vertical

nah it's half screen
I did something similar when my ultrawide starting pooping out
I replaced it and had them stacked on top each other
Eventually traded the broken one for a 4K TV
the other half is spotify or a vc or smth
ah that makes much more sense
yea so that's what I'm thinking, once this UW (it's a 2015 unit) craps itself I'll replace it with an actual TV for the fun of it
i went from 4k tv to ultrawide because i moved into a place with much less wall space
Oh yeah I still use ultrawide at the desk, just one instead of two
TV is in the bedroom now
yes, constantly

is there a chat for product rcomendations/comaprisons?

Framework 16 up for preorder. AMD only
...when Framework came calling, AMD picked up the phone immediately.
The Area-51m was Alienware co-founder Frank Azorās last big launch before he became AMDās gaming chief. Frameworkās CEO says he partnered with AMD on the Framework 16 because Azor personally got excited and started pushing internally. āHe said this is how it should have been done,ā Patel tells me.
from The Verge hands on
Whoever said AMD was as bad as Nvidia? Nvidia wouldnt jump on it like that for sure.
i mean i specced it out reasonably for my use case and it was 3000 AUD
Don't make everything about AMD vs Nvidia challenge (impossible)
I'm guessing it's mostly because they can't ramp up factory capacity the same as the big-name laptop brands
At least you can get a barebones model (i.e. no GPU) and add more in later
again. preorder, probably more expensive. and i go for gaming. just the usual, 16GB RAM, 250GB Boot drive, 7840HS, 7700S, 3 USB As 2USB Cs and a 3.5 MM Headphone jack cause they didnt include one as standard.
I was really hoping for portable a CUDA-capable laptop, I'm gonna hold out and see if more GPU module options show up later on
Can someone help me šthe screw i need to unscrew to insert my ssd is not unscrewing im not sure if it is bc the screw is too small or if its bc im doing something wrong
which if you ask me is bullshit considering that they don't need to make it a modular port to have it be replacable/upgradable. but i guess people are fine with it.
and its DIY
so you gotta assemble it yourself
Seems like AMD played a big part
well AUD is worthless. its the price we pay, and added onto the premium.
That'll come in time. Just gotta ramp up production
i didnt get to check the shipping but Australia. yeah shipping is normally pretty rough.
they are pretty small at the moment hopefully they can expand and get everything to be nice and cheap.
Basically a boutique laptop company at this point
they are embracing linux so that's the extra mile
anyone have good ideas on how to create a believable airline ticket, this is obviously not for nefarious purposes.
No lmao
No absolutely not
lmao, my boss called me on my lie so I could go to my friends wedding
go to police
ask them
he asked for an airline ticket
im probably on a watchlist now considering my searches in the last 30 min smh
depends if international or domestic
domestic is obviously going to be easier needing much fewer security checks
I haven't told them location but told them it was out of country
ok then that involves immigration services which complicates things
i think im losing my mind ive been trying to unscrew this damn screw for an hour
visa, border control, passports all that
all I need is the airline ticket that looks semi-real
lefty loosey, righty tighty
so my boss will get off my a$$
what are you even trying to do? remove an SSD?
oh i thought you were trying to
nevermind, you can just photoshop one
for realism do a mockup like you holding it
if so you might need to push a little hard or get a smaller screwdriver.
im assuming theres a decent template online or smth, if not im trying to search for my old ones rn
they could just put a little plastic clip but that limits sizes.
I think that'll probably pass, was just wondering if anyone knew of decent templates posted somewhere I could start with
google it
Find a previous airline receipt in your Gmail, inspect element, change all the dates & flight number to one on the day you said you'd leave
Screenshot that, cover up the confirmation number with lil scribbles (because that would show you're lying) and send that screenshot
thats perfect thx
To reiterate, boss man could use the flight number + confirmation number to see that you're lying. Make sure the conf number is covered up. Say it's for privacy, don't want the screenshot leaking and someone messing with your flight plans

goddamn it. webp should be abolished. i went looking for stuff on google and saved like 3 images and they're all webp.

okay i made it

no. Windows is in the wrong here
the casusal deserved "Fuck Microsoft" post
I hate to agree with you, but in this case, you're correct
and google with Jpeg XL. perfectly cromulent format but Google hates it for some reason
good morning
At this point Idc what format is where I'd rather save all my images in Raw/.dng cause there's too many formats and I don't wanna bother having every damn extension just to see 1 imahe
Also I don't like that quality slider from Jpeg. Raw data I can fuck around with more too.
except raw is massive and not everyone can effort 10tbs for 10 images
Or a photographer
and low compression is just curbing duplicate data anyway so there's basically minimal visual fidelity loss
.png is fine
I bought my own scanner so I can get tiff files out of my photos
For better editing
They're absolutely massive in file size
anyone else here use topaz upscaler?

I've used it but don't actively use it
I shoot raw photos from my canon 5d and m50 too. Well use to do both jpg and raw but just moved to fully raw now unless I know I have to send out jpg photos to friends fast then I do both.
downside well sd card I go through them if I am not careful lol

Idk I just hate the compression rates for some reason. I'd rather have too much data than be missing half the words on a slightly distanced sheet of paper in a photo.
Also half my devices don't hold 64GB of storage so I have many accounts just for unimportant data idrc about.
you might as well be using film at this point and develop it on your own
home developing seems like a pain, its cool but seems like allot of stuff to go through when you could probably just scan and print
