4k is bad
oh sorry
and i disagree honestly
is a 4590 gtx 1660s system good for medium?
4k mod
the truth is, is that it depends on the monitor size
at 1440?
720 p
huh, It would look like the jump to 4k is much more. but i guess its diminishing returns at that point? good to know.
yeah size:resolution:distance
the jump to 4k is larger yah
my monitor is 1024 x 768
And if i'm going to a bigger monitor i'd loose ppi staying at 1080p which I don't want.
you can use FSR 2.0 or DLSS 2.0 to basically fake 4k from 1440p. not possible for 1080p to 1440p. theres too little to go off of
i won’t use dlss/fsr aside from their frame interpolation
easily it will work
interpolation is cool to bypass cpu bottlenecks
yeah true
I have a friend with a 4790 and a 1660ti he plays at 1080p no problem
other than that its worthless
also uh is there a version of dsr i can use on my pc for 4:3 resolutioms?
makes the game look worse in many cases
1080p (24” or 27”) and 1440p 27” both have very obvious alias artifacting (shimmering and jagged edges) in games whereas 4k 27” barely has any
I have a 1660S for now and yeah 1080p is no problem.
i dont notice it on mine
do you play with antialiasing enabled
yeah 😿
there u go
AA eliminates aliasing at the cost of making the game look like a blurry mess
So I want a new monitor, currently have a pretty small 1080p ultrawide. I want something bigger but not sure if 21:9 is worth it. Games are always a struggle and sometimes don't work at all (as in black bars, not that they won't stat), although for work its great snapping two windows and having essentially 2 4:3 monitors. so I don't know. should I just go for a big 16:9? Ultrawide feels like it's loosing steam.
native 4k 27” looks sooooo much better than 1440p 27” with temporal AA
a lot of games support ultrawide nowadays
the only one i can think of that doesn’t off the top of my head is valorant
and a few other competitive games
Meh, probably just my selection. I play a lot of older stuff or console emulation. Although last game I got is Sonic Frontiers and it doesn't support it, but it's a Sonic game. What i said about loosing steam was more about hearing less people talking about it.
If i get a 16:9, i would likely go to dual monitors later.
i believe ultrawide is on the rise actually
especially with the 34” qd-oled panel going around
but wanting 16:9 is completely understandable, i don’t want an ultrawide
Yeah I loved 21:9 when I got this like 4 years ago, but I kind of just want a big regular monitor. a lot of sites also go wonky if you don't do split screen and other stuff like that. But I don't know if I'll hate it once I actually go back. Guess this isn't really a question then 🤣
Nope, cause anti-aliasing is for squares
agreed
I want someone to make a 32:10 curved display. That'd be KILLER for productivity
samsung is making a dual 4k ultra wide soon as shown in the radeon 7000 announcement
Anyone know of idea display? seems suspiciously cheap. Only 60hz though, which is another thing I don't know much about. Never seen a high refresh panel in person. I don't play any shooters which is the stereotypical use for which refresh so I don't know if i should look for more than 60hz. https://www.newegg.com/black-idea-display-4k-gaming-monitor-g27p-27/p/3D4-004P-00001
high refresh helps outside of gaming too
scrolling and controlling your cursor is substantially easier
high refresh rate makes everything look smoother. It's not a bad thing.
Oh yeah I know it's definitely a good thing, was just asking how good.
so good that once you're used to it? you won't wanna go back
using 60hz is like trying to use your computer drunk
when you’re used to a high refresh rate
that’s how dramatic it is
yeah i have a 240 hz main monitor and a 60 hz second monitor ☠️
when you drag a window over to your 60hz monitor you’re probably like 🫠
Where would you say is the point where it gets good? 120hz? 144hz? obviusly more is more.
that depends on the person to be honest
some people swear they can’t see anything over 120hz
4:3? what year is it
am i the only one that notices a coloration difference when you change your monitor to 60 hz
to me 240hz is another massive improvement in smoothness over 120hz
but most people won’t sacrifice picture quality to go from 120 to 240
I sleep. 3am kek
theres no like picture quality loss w/ my monitor
i mean there is technically
i wanted to get a 4k monitor but i wouldnt be able to adjust to 144hz after using 240 for so long
are you talking about refresh rate or response time though
smoothness, refresh rate
you would but it’d take a while
i’m sure there’ll be many more 4k 240hz monitors in the next few years though
i really dont like see the pixels with 1080p
yeah for 500$ ☠️
go load up a game on a 1080p monitor and disable antialiasing and tell me you don’t see pixels and jagged edges
i jump between 60hz and 144hz all the time.. and you get used to it within a minute or 2, anyone who tells you different is a princess or is trying to justify their bad purchasing decisions to themselves
or your eyes just suck
well i mean 1080p with anti aliasing get more frames than 4k without
😿
obviously anyone can cope with 60hz, we all did at one point
it also heavily depends on your monitors response time, as well as what game you are playing
its so weird my phones 60 hz but it feels smoother than my pc at 60hz locked at 60 fps
yeah but imo response time matters more at very high refresh rates
id take 120hz with mediocre response time over 60hz on oled
yes, but 60fps 2ms response is different from 60hz 14 ms
of course
i prefer the motion on my odyssey g7 (240hz 1.5-2.5ms) over the motion on my acer xv252q (390hz 3-4ms)
the clarity is more important to me over the smoothness beyond 240hz
isnt 390 like super unsynced with each pixel
i’m not sure what you mean
each pixel refreshes separately from another
do you mean how the pixels can’t respond fast enough for the refresh rate
yeah
because pixels always refresh separately from eachother
seizure lights
So another fun thing, I have an nvidia 1660S, but plan to go to AMD later. From what a read Nvidia cards will work with FreeSync monitors over DP. Maybe. if you're lucky. Is it actually that unstable or can you expect it to just work?
i expect it to just work
nono my siezure lights are seperate to my monitor
post ur seizure lights king
it is very very very likely just to work
freesync on nvidia has been around since 2016
ok, that's good.
it should just work with almost any monitor
i notice no difference with gsync or freesync on
NVidia works with both freesync and gsync. AMD is just freesync.
i use a crt proudly
in what game
Yeah I've never owned a variable refresh monitor so i'd never checked.
gsync is freesync
if you’re getting over 240fps on a 240hz monitor then you’re not using freesync anyway
same features as most monitors now have it
I see plenty of 32:9's but no :10's
any, cyberpunk, warzone, minecraft, trackmania, etc
the software side though is both different
they are absolutely not the same
the difference is very noticeable for me but i don’t know if i prefer it
the lg displays I swear say freesync is the same
freesync and gsync are different but give you the same end result
GSync requires specialized hardware that you can only get from NVidia and pay licensing for.
... depending on the level of gsync
yeah but its a software thing
g sync ultimate is in theory better but because it requires special hardware if often ruins the monitors that the module is used in
the monitors are basically the same for offering the features
Quote:
"Nvidia G-Sync Compatible, the most common version of G-Sync today, is based on the VESA Adaptive Sync standard. But Nvidia G-Sync and G-Sync Ultimate, the less common and more premium versions of G-Sync, use proprietary hardware in the display."
Which GSync?
From what I read G-sync compatible just means a free sync display that nvidia validated to work.
I don't even know
basically yes
my monitor has response time options like i would choose to use a lower response time ☠️
I have the gl 650bf
yeah those are overdrive settings
what monitor do you have
tbh - this is the problem. We've been talking about this in an actual productive way for some time. There is no simple answer to response time (real world), refresh rate, gsync, freesync, felt smoothness, yadda yadda
uhhh i forgot but its that alienware 240 hz 27 inch 1080p one
I'm heavily regretting getting an 8gb ram laptop. my browsing habits are not compatible with it.
my other monitor is just a widescreen one by lg no gsync or anything
is the slot upgradeable
that's what I have now.
me when my xbox crashes due to not enough ram running discord
i don’t use freesync because my odyssey g7 has annoying flicker when it’s enabled
it’s not really necessary at 240hz anyway
Nah, it's a thinkpad X1 yoga, all soldered.
yeah buying an 8gb soldered laptop is a serious oof
bruh my thinkpad was the x13 gen 1 amd 16gb ram
I got it for 500cad, also had the t14s intel before for 16gb too
same price
my 2 recommended options for a monitor at first were some 120$ samsun like office one with a huge border or the alienware 240 hz one for 200 ☠️
speaking of displays does anyone here use auto brightness on their phone or does everyone control it manually
I got it the same year it released, u just have to call banking firms around your area
500 cad used or from lenovo? that sounds really cheap.
uhh i use autobrightness
from a investment firm
and alot of the times manually change it
i’m trying out auto brightness right now, i’ve always done it manually
^^ this 😄
ill be in a really bright room and it will change brightnesses even if the lighting hasnt changed around me and will just randomly turn the brightness all the way down at really inconvenient times
both just had keyboard issues and I got it replaced with lenovo as they were still on warranty
i used auto brightness until the sensor died i guess. I'd still lower it when it's really dark, but otherwise it's nice to not get blinded indoors or tap around blindly in the sunlight.
I asked if they had any broken thinkpads that needed to be cleared out
How the hell
went there and bought one off them after taking a look
the issue i have with auto brightness is that it limits your max brightness when you try to change it manually
65% on auto and 65% on manual are not equivalent
multitaskers in a nutshell
yk the always on displays for the 14? why would you need that
always on display lets you see what time it is without having to pick up your phone
always on displays are stupid. I disable that shit
Like 90% of those are stale tabs, but i'll often generate 20-40 tabs in a research session and at a certain point cleaning them out is too much work.
ehhh, 8gb is very entry level in 2022. My main desktop has 32, but my laptop is fine with 16
Oh
yeah i dont understand why apple still offers the macbook air with 8gb of ram
it's like theyre intentionally making a device thatll go obsolete in a couple years
I usually have like 7 tabs at max
yeah i've said 16gb is the min for a long time, then went and and let the sale price get me.
because macos has less overhead, and 8gb is fine for normie type stuff
start new habits.
New research session? New window. Kill it when you're done, and all of that goes away.
but do normies need a $1000 M2 laptop
My PC sucks and I need a new one as my current one simply does not suffice ahymo7
Anymore
the m2 is a pointless upgrade, better off with the m1
no but they want it
you can get an open box ipad air 256gb with the M1 for $460
pretty insane price to performance
ehh, I mean the m2 is better, but the M1 is perfectly fine for everything you'd be doing with an air
its intentional obsolescence, and, you create a product you want to sell, and then you intentionally create a shitter product to sit under it, and a much much higher priced product above it... now... your overpriced middle product, seems much better... because nobody wants the shit one, but nobody is going to pay for the stupid one
yeah true but the m2 air has a lot of unrelated upgrades
I wanna get a M1 Mac mini, but it won't run basically all of my steam games and 16GB version is too much
yeah dont buy any mac for gaming
on about autocad.. .i need to get rid of fusion 360 and get something that is fully online... because when fusion360 went down for maintenance the other day... it would let me model whatever i wanted, save whatever i wanted locally... but... would not allow me to export anything to an STL... because "the servers are in maintenance mode"... fuck that... STL export is done locally... but because the servers are off, i cant use that basic function
i havent owned a laptop in almost a decade but i kind of want one now
I wish I had known about that before i bought an m2 macbook pro
lmao cant run 32 bit games
or any game really but
absolutely gorgeous laptop, it's just not meant for gaming at all
I currently have a Lenovo IdeaPad 330-15ARR with an AMD Ryzen 3 2200U, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 1TB Boot HDD
I'm in dire need
the last time i owned a laptop was so long ago that it had a 2 core 2ghz pentium, 2gb of ddr2, a 480p TN screen, and an IDE hard drive
played a lot of wizard101 on that beast
You know your laptop is great when it only boosts to 3.29GHZ
Oh and Raedon Vega 3 Integrated graphics
a tire-burning 3.29ghz
It blows everything out of the water, if it was 1999
As far as I know, it's not 1999
if you got a ssd for it then itd be plenty fast for general office use
anyone know ab copying hard drives to a new ssd?
Like all the windows folders and stuff?
yes
Nope. Im struggling just booting to a new hdd
like setting it to first boot option?
I'm struggling to even press the power button
i just keep getting an error when i try to clone so im doing an image instead
I'm struggling to even maintain basic bodily functions like breathing
Same
rt
Kind of leaning towards this monitor, I know I was making if 1440p is worth it over 1080, but this one at 4K looks really nice as far as I can tell. or should i save the money for my GPU upgrade and get a 1440p panel? https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824012055?Item=N82E16824012055
i feel you
I don't understand how people use 1080p single monitor systems for anything except pure gamign
the m28u is a great option
For some reason when i fresh installed windows all the stuff saved half and half to my bootable usb and main hdd
Relatable
bro what
and there is a hidden partition diskpart is telling me
I use one 1080P monitor
nuts
Probably don't, although majority of what I play isn't super demandin or modern, and for productivity you can fit a tone more on with more pixels.
you can always get a new gpu later
1440p is where its at
you dont have to be able to play AAA games at 4k to use a 4k monitor
i have a 3080 in ultra 1440p i barely run mw2 at like 120fps so idk ab 4k
unless u have a 4090
again, not everyone cares about playing brand new AAA games at max settings
I am planning on it, though I'm definitely not getting a flagship.
my gtx 1070 played all the games i cared about at 4k 120hz
yeah I don't
(roblox, valorant, csgo, fortnite, overwatch)
I have a Raedon Vega 3 Integrated graphics, I can't even think about running MW2
(Dolphin emulated gamecube)
Beautiful
wii/3ds games were more limited by their resolution than anything else
games like super mario galaxy could be rereleased on the switch but at 1080p and people would be like OH MY GOD IT'S BEAUTIFUL
Theoretically could I play super Mario Galaxy on my steam deck
yeah
Just in theory. Nintendo lawyers plz leave me alone
Maybe
"hypothetically"
Prehaps
Pvz on 3ds

I CANT FUCKIN CLONE ITTTTT
Im excited. Jailbreaking all my 3ds 3dsxl
ima loose my shit
Homebrew
right this way sir --> https://dolphin-emu.org/
Official website of Dolphin, the GameCube and Wii emulator. Download the latest version (5.0-17868) now or ask questions on our forums for help.
yeah i just say jb cause its wider term
Long live the Wii U
Hmmmm
Meanwhile I can still buy games on my Xbox 360
Oh lucky. I loved my DS lit and then DSi as a kid. Only console I have left is my homebrewed Wii but I rarely use it because Dolphin is much more convenient, mostly it get's used to rip disks or the rare times we want to play with friends.
I play super Mario sunshine on mine and luigi mansion
Yup
Homebrew on Wii is surprisingly active still, and alternate online multiplayer servers have some activity on the more popular games like mario cart.
Smh Carter you don't know the best mario game
I need to play super Mario Odyssey still
I've played like 5 minutes of it, seems fun but I don't have a switch and their business model is kind of off putting to me.
I have a switch and odyssey
I played a bit of it, but didn't really pull me in that much
VESA DisplayHDR 400 is sort of the HDR'nt tier one right?
my DS lite broke sadly. Top screen only displays static
mine too but its cheap to replace
but you can just use your phone for those games
or steam deck now
yeah i know its just i like to be ablt to look back and say technology has really advanced
Show future kids
what future kids
Also the reason the screen broke was because i poured maple syrup on it for some reason as a kid
ik bro 💀
💀
I also have R4 cards for the DS lite and 3ds with all the cheat codes for games
I'm gonna read 1200 pages of a linear math textbook
Why
because I can't understand my teacher
Why not?
the way she explains everything
we jump from topic to topic fast
and there's like 20 formulas
I swear I have some memory loss
If you’ve had Covid very possible
^^
EmuDeck is where it's at
Batocera is king!
I remember some kids I met in the waiting room of a doctor's office has one of those chat carts and game me infinite money on my Nintendogs save, 10 year old me thought that was the coolest thing ever
Say happy birthday to halo combat evolved now!!!
No lmao
Your social security number is 078-05-1120 and I have hired a hitman to hunt you down. I also know the names of your family members and if you contact the authorities they will be next.
joke*
That was sad
what did you just say to me! .....
AYO, CE BIRTHDAY TIME???
ye

Just put it in a micro-sd card and boot to it. That's what I did
imagine not saying happy birthday to CE
But why? What do I stand to gain from doing that instead of just using EmuDeck?
I don't have to imagine
buying a steam deck and not using steamos defeats the point of the steam deck imo
you should at least dualboot and keep steam os as an option
It's built from scratch, its compatibility with emulators and games. It's image scraper is awesome.
SO Yeah, Emulation On The Deck Just Got so much better Because now we can Run Batocera on the Steam deck with a micro SD Card and the performance is amazing! In this video, we take a look at Batocer Linux “A Stand Alone Emulation Frontend OS” and test out PS2, Gamecube, Wii, WiiU, and 3DS emulators on the steam deck! This can be dual booted alon...
It's worth a quick watch at least. Especially if you haven't dabbled in emulation yet on your steam deck
Reminds me of that windows XP era
Now i hate windows
ARCH LINUX FTW
(so called ubuntu)
as I run Ubuntu inside WSL on Windows 11
No reason, except to come to the dark side
Happy birthday halo ce
that still a lot of $$$$
if the 4070 becomes $1k then we can compart it with the amd 7900 price performance ratio
80 class cards costing over a grand is a joke
Does it line up with inflation?
I don't think do
Hmm, interesting...
for how I see it if a 3090ti for 1300 euro is a good deal a 4080 that overperforms it by quite some for 1480 euros isn't that bad, it should be in the thousand euros tbh but at worst I just keep my 3090ti
Yeah, I don't think it's unfair, given that a GTX 1080 adjusted for inflation would cost $750, and the 4080 is....much faster, to say the least
Uuhhhhhhhhhhhhuh, does mousepad matter or is there like ones that are better than others?
god no
2080 was a 2018 $699 card
it would be nice if tech advanced faster than prices tho
Except performance per dollar for electronics normally goes up.
Hard to do that, given the sheer amount of funding devoted to R&D of the new products
ehhhh, it sorta does and it sorta doesn't
There are ones that are better than others
and the buffer necessary to do so and manage through a possible bad year
nvidia can charge less, but they have no incentive to
anyway, I'll just head to sleep, just stayed up to see if I could grab a 4080 but i wasn't fast enough
Exactly...it's hard to explain that to gamerbros though
Linus did a video on it https://youtu.be/nLgXeIaK0U0

Like the threads and shit matter for tracking
I mean they are ALSO not wrong that shit is too expensive, particularly in the low/mid range (which is starting to recover now, but damn)
I am using one right now, and my food tastes better
nice and squishy
Yes, but the amount of people that believe that GPUs should still cost < $600 in here is wild
but not too squishy
They should.... but what GPUs are you talking about
4080 series, at the moment
ok but that's not all GPUs.far from it
My 3070 that I paid $1100USD for in march 2021 is doing me pretty damn well, considering I have a 4k monitor
Yeah, I should have specified, the amount of people that believe a 4080 should still cost < $600 in here is wild lol
right now the cheapest (last gen) gaming card nvidia offers is ~$350
(the rtx 3050)
and the 6650XT makes it look like a piece of shit
1100USD?!
yeah pretty much
My GTX 1080 was $700, and it's still pretty great at 1440p.
do you remember march 2021? I was lucky I got one AT ALL, and it's an asus EKWB card
Ah okay
Depends on if you care about RTX or not (and productivity software)
I think I’ve seen pics, but can you send some? I bet that looks really cool
... if you think you're ray tracing on a 3050 then looooool
even with rtx it's hard to pick a clear winner
with a 3050
Honestly I’d get a 4090, if the price was 60% of what it is
There are other games with ray tracing that aren't cyberpunk.
the 6650XT can run those
With ray tracing?...........
God I love custom loop
it's nothing to write home about but you can get playable framerates
probably better than a 3050
Then spend hours building it and doing maintenance
do it. What do you have to lose apart from time, money, sanity, etc.
maintenance? pfffffff.
Then do it I guess?
What kind of prices am I looking at for a gpu + cpu loop
All I need to do is spray my heatsink with air for maintenance 😎
Including tubing and fittings etc etc
I guarantee you, the price will be absolutely nothing compared to the work/upkeep/upgrade work
how long is a piece of string, but ... a few hundred bucks.
less if you are happy with bodging and second hand stuff
my first loop was functional and cheap
I've seen broken computers too
yeah I've seen new cars for $18k
A basic well known cpu block is $100
God damn
Emphasis on basic
nah you can get one for $50
What is it other than a block of metal with some acrylic?
A non ek one with gold in it
And the amount of time you will spend is going to shock you
sold in low volumes with low tolerances ....
Fair
I doubt there’s enough incentive for them to mass produce blocks
Especially with Intel changing sockets every 3 years
It's so much easier and cheaper to get a aio
Wtf it actually looks good too
Aio’s don’t have the aesthetic
yeah dude, I told you. I know boats
barrow are a decent brand, so is bykski. Both available on aliexpress for very reasonable prices - but not too cheap that they are shit
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000028559906.html <- affordable kit
If I buy a waterblock from them and it’s shit, I’m going to crucify you
dude I am literally using a barrow CPU block right now
Then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about :)
but yeah, you can spend more than an entire moderate but nice watercooling system on a distribution block
I’m the kind of guy that would put a 13900k and 4090 in a 15$ case
Provided that it had ventilation ofc
@manic torrent on that kit, what kinda gpus does that block fit ._.
I have no idea, you would have to do your own research - I probably wouldn't get the GPU block kit.
ek charges $110 for a standalone 360mm radiator
I might get a cpu kit and incorporate the gpu later
Are they high?
Or are the products just really good
also you should 100000% get the fucking Hyte Y60
I don like it
You pay a premium for not fucking around, and often if a shop is selling EK, they will have a big range.
The thing about losing weight is, all your shirts start to look really big
I find in australia, the stocking is so fucking sparse for watercooling stuff AT ALL you end up either waiting, ordering from overseas, or mixing and matching. (usually a combo)
Living under china has it's perks
under the yoke of chinese rule?
🗿
My case support mounting a gpu vertically
How much performance loss (if any) is made by using a riser cable
Pretty sure it's 0
Mkay
it's not 0 ..... but it's effectively 0
hi linus people
what are linus people
you
Damnit instead of the 50 pounds of potatoes my work is only giving us 30 pounds of potatoes
That's outrageous
factual, id be in uproar
Still 500 employees times 30 pounds of potatoes is a lot of fries
Bruh
Wut. At least on UserBenchmark.com RTX 3050 scores just 2% higher than my 1660S, and actually looses in most categories.
I swear I lose brain cells when I read userbenchmark
same kek
like the name userbenchmark or the comparisons?
he means anything related to ubm
The shit benchmarks the use, the Intel bias it's all too much
IDK I just wind up there when searching "GPU compare" sometimes.
yes. it's shit.
huh, interesting.
while the 3050 is superior to the 1660S the 2060 beats both and is cheaper.
Their benchmarks are useless
which are better?
divining rods over the GPU
techpowerup and toms hardware have better gpu perf graphs
Cpu/GPU monkey, passmark, tech spot, 3dmark
It hurts my head that people still look at it,
Only got chickens.
oh damn. I am totally going to buy this. https://www.elgato.com/en/stream-deck-plus
steam deck > stream deck
what size is your large monitor
seam deck > steam deck
48"
my dad gave me $110 to spend on black friday and im gonna buy 2nd gen airpods that are $80 : D
invest the $110
lose everything.
Exactly
don't need ANC?
I hate earbuds, things are hard to fit snug and they push earwax down your ear or they collect the earwax
ANC?
apples decision to include white silicone eartips with AirPods Pro is just wrong
noise cancellation
no i dont need noise concellation lmao
they won't even fit on the 2nd gen airpods cause they are built that way
ANC is great
and with the rest $30 i will just buy a gaming mouse
they're convenient above all else
don't really need ANC. my surroundings aren't loud
oh yeah if you don't care/need it then just the second gen are fine
For portable yeah
the ANC airpods are over budget for me anyway
do 2nd gen airpods come with a charger?
Use that extra money for a shitty lighting cable
cable yes, adapter no
how to know if airpods are legit. Im buying them from brandsmart so im not so sure
wtf is brandsmart
i forgot you are in Europe...
insulting
Navy is a American lad
then how come you never heard of brandsmart???
I have money and thus don't shop at sketchy retailers that I'd be concerned if something I was buying is a knockoff.
its not sketchy
brandsmart is pretty big
then why are you concerned if the airpods are legit?
i never trust things. I have to fact check everything to make sure its right
its also a super regional chain
yea
most americans have never heard of it lmao
Florida company very sketchy
yeah fuck florida
prolly cause its only in florida and georgia
Hey I can see my house!
wow...this guy bragging about having a house
coopa, is the salty lake all dried up yet?
Not yet heard we will pump water into it
my parents house I'm the basement dweller
is tiger direct out of business?
Didn't know I lived in the only place where BradsMart is a thing. BradsMart is suspiciously cheap, and they all look like those videos of the Shenzhen electronics mall. Urban legend is their stuff is all knockoffs, but obviously that's not true as they are a large brick and mortar store and that wouldn't really fly with customs.
pretty sure...
In Florida, we don't have basement
yes 🪦
Idk hopefully we cut off Cali from the Colorado river and use that
is it basically a brick and mortar ali express?
where else do you keep your pet gators?
Sounds like a gimmick
Guys is this answer to a question valid:
The hardest part about making a perpetual motion machine is newtons first law
This newton guy must be onto something
We will use less salty ocean water apparently
thats gonna be a long pipe
i almost died a few minutes ago...
i was eating my dinner really really fast and couldn't breath and was kind choking cause of the food jammed in my throat. Thankfully, i drank a glass of water and the food went down
Context needed
Dump salt on it
A lot of it
crack pipe
The great salt lake has no life in it the water is too salty, I don't know why we want to save it
Just because big lake
Big salty lake
Oh migrating birds use it Guess it is useful
We can make our own lakes
They're called dams
I live pretty close to lake mead
Which iirc is the biggest man made water body on the planet
do people drink mead on lake mead
how salty
could an italian grandmother cook some pasta with it?
I have
Too salty for any fish to live in it
Weird experience
So yes
the south arm of the lake contains about 13 percent salt, which makes it salty enough for most people to float with little effort.
An ocean is 3.5
I heard he is a SI measurement or sth idk i dont have energy
Amazon delivery is dumb. Im ordering an item today and it's gonna deliver on December 8th
dont buy from that seller then
Welcome to cyber Monday/black Friday
that's the cheapest airpods i could find on amazon
skill issue then
It's not even an black friday deal...
black friday is literally 2 weeks away
there are still black friday deals
It's the time of year that mail people go crazy
it's kinda turned into black friday month tbh
eh true
Companies make all of November black Friday
true. im already getting brandsmart black frriday deals in my mail
It's a cancer and it's growing
then get something else
black friday starts Nov 1 and ends Jan 1
People other than apple make headphones
thankfully there are salt flats nearby.
Yeah except they sell real apple products and washing machines and fridges. i guess its bestbuy but the product order person went crazy on ali express?
Yeah like Newegg is in full black Friday mode, many others too. they have a new gimmick this year they're doing a thing they call black Friday price protection where if a thing you bought is discounted further in the future they'll refund the difference automatically.
I don’t trust Black Friday sales. Turns out a lot of places boil the frog on pricing and then (for example) lower it by 20% for a total price of 5% over normal retail value.
Camel camel camel though is legit.
Take that retail price jackers! You’ve been #camelcubed
as long as you check what the typical price is you can shop pretty safe
Yep
Use today's sponsor honey! And you can see a graph 📉 of the prices through out the year
Yo 1500 pc https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RTsppH Thoughts?
anyone know how to fix "the requested resource is in use" error when transferring files?
nvm fixed
What was the fix?
stop using the requested resource
Wait is this right? It says a graphics card older than Nvidia 20 series (like my 1660S) will only be able to run 4K at up to 60hz over DisplayPort? https://www.rtings.com/monitor/discussions/q-D1CBeE2EiGMYgn/additional-review-notes-supported-resolutions
Technically a gt1030 can do it
Hi bronze
So, article 5?
Dp 1.4 (standard for a while) can do 4K 120 with no compression
what is article 5
Ah ok that's what I thought. Am I being dyslexic or does that page say it wouldn't?
lol
NATO thing
oh
Lemme look
The 4K 120hz is at 8 bit color @hoary hearth
You can only do 4K 60 at 10 bit color
oh, so essentially gradients would be blockier?
o nice wan show back up
What is that chart for? DP1.4?
#blamecolton
that's my current monitor
on a 3070 over DP
reminder dp 1.4 is a horseshit spec
too many vital parts are optional
(dual stream compression for instance)
Yeah DSC is what we're talking about. Apparently nvidia cards older than the 20 series don't have it and I was trying to figure out what refresh rate I'd get on a 1660S.
also 5kseries and older
Uncompressed 4k 120Hz 8bit consumes 25GBit/s
and I have 4 lanes of 8.1gb/s, more than enough
I spent too many hours troubleshooting my rx 570's bullshit because I was trying to do thunderbolt shenanigans with dual monitors
an attack on one NATO nation will be regarded as an attack on all NATO nations
anytime this is invoked 30 countries instantly get dragged into war
basically yeah.
oh
The "Hey! Thats my ally you're attackin, buddy!" article.
but it's also normally not a big deal because whichever country did the attacking normally gets obliterated
pretty sure more than half of the worlds nuclear powers are a member of nato
nvm i lied it's 1/3
but it counts america so gg
Plz no article 5
hey if you're going to go to the gym and build a bunch of muscle to use as a deterrence to people fucking with you you gotta be willing to punch when you need to punch
Because it's technology...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMLD0Lp0JBg
1:53 until launch
That’s… that’s the plan as of right now
And I can tell you what my friends told me, I punch hard as fuck
haha, thunderbolt is such a bizarre and black box thing.
https://www.geeky-gadgets.com/thunderbolt-4-docking-station-18-08-2022/ this hub with a display will actually tell you wtf is happening
that's a pretty good price for a tb4 dock
yeah it's a decent bit of kit. doesn't suit my purposes, but I like it
i have nothing with thunderbolt
i was thinking of getting one of the amd boards that support thunderbolt
I'd hold off until TB5
which will be 80gbps each way, and 120gbps/40gbps for high speed devices
holy fuck it's cheaper than my current dock and has an actual input rather than a fucking hardwired cable
unless intel is nice and lets universal pcie thunderbolt cards exist for tb5
heh, I have a HP dock G2 because I got it for $65 AUD, a three port TB4 hub, and two different GPU enclosures
sony and apple would frown on that
sony and apple can suck me nards
irrelevant
TB5 =~ USB4 2.0.
If you can implement full spec USB4 2.0, it's effectively TB5
This is a really sweet TB Hub / Dock:
https://www.acasis.com/products/acasis-portable-10-in-1-hub-with-ssd-enclousre-kickstarter-hot-campaign
website down?
no, it isn't
how do you figure?
no downstream TB ports
no displayport type c ports
ok it does up to 80W on the laptop port that's not bad
but it only comes with 65W power
okay not having a displayport C could be annoying, yeah.
But overall it's a great little box. (And the NVME Dock is a great touch.)
yeah, the thing is with all of this stuff, is that any single port can end up being a dealbreaker for a slightly different setup
Ethernet switch failure on Artemis lmao
something's uh....on fire
that ain't good
is linus bbqing?
probably
I got to get me some cold pops
Did you
I did not.

T - 4:30 to launch
Yessir
I made this instead
Anyone here good with improving resumes?
(and now I'm making the code to suit it)
Holy crap one minute
experience: fuckin heaps
I got that, im just trying to improve one section of my resume so its not a overload of info
Google docs has premade templates
Im trying to clean up my Datacenter technician section so its like the bottom 2
Im just trying to think how I can include everything but not have it be like this
Bro that’s too much stuff
Put urself in a employers shoes, u think imma be bothered to read all that
exactly which is why im trying to condense it lol
rip
dot points for alllllllll
Which dot points should I focus on and I want to make sure they know I helped facilitate and lead a entire DC shutdown involving thousands of servers of deracking and shipping to our new DC
These fired twitter employees should call Luke.
Hopefully.
would be Aight having some experienced ppl behind Floatplane
Mhm
When Microcenter says Instore only can I reserve it online or no?
usually
Same day or different day
I wanna get a ssd that’s on sale but I work black Friday
it's probably only that day
they probably don't hold black friday
Fuck
but normally its 3 days
honestly dude, nobody reads that shit. for reals. HR people scan it for keywords and shit and make sure it matches the gist, they hand it off to manager/other staff who do the same thing with a more specific eye, screening interview to make sure you're a person and you can at least sound like you know what you're talking about.
Then interview is where you explain that shit
I have looked up alot but I can't find hard drive power cable connecting to motherboard
They are more likely to read it AFTER they hire you
But that's how my thing is setup
I have a paragraph at the top of my resume explaining how awesome I am - the HR lady cut and pasted it and sent it to all the staff at my new job 😄
hard drive power cables don't connect to the motherboard
look, it has been done, but it's far from common. I haven't seen it for many years
ah yep, that makes sense
it's pure garbage and you should use it until you burn it to the ground
that's what my laptop is doing
If I need to change that should I change the psu
you should throw it away
the entire machine.
thats why mine helps them out with that... i literally have a "Keywords: xxxxxx" line under each of my previous jobs, before a short paragraph explaining them 🙂
exactly. I have cut it down to a sentence or two.
and I only do that for my most recent jobs.
but there's word salad garbage of my skills
because when you do IT for 20+ years, you see some shit.
most recent 2 jobs have a line for keywords, with a paragraph (3-4 sentences), and anything beyond that, is just the keywords.
"I did some stuff here"
also there was a job I was at for like 3 months... I just left it off
"this was long enough ago, that it doesnt matter anymore"
i have a line under "personal" too, that says i am a casual gamer, and an armature triathlete too... and since adding that, any interview i have had, the interviewer has spent more time talking about triathlon with me, than about the job or my skills
hahaha
something like that makes you more memorable in the sea of CVs they have gotten
I can't remember if I put my embedded electronic stuff on there or not
but most people don't write canbus integrations and build new dash clusters in their spare time
my favorite question is "how do you keep up to date with new technology, things that are happening in the space"... and i always answer "technology and programming is a hobby i have had since i was about 11, and im fortunate enough that i get paid to do my hobby... and because its my hobby, i like to play around with it outside of work, in my free time, so im always constantly learning new things and keeping up to date" 😄
that always goes down well
Ah, see I go the other way and bring it back to fundamentals - I understand things from first principles, and new stuff is always old stuff with a slight change, so keeping up is super easy when you approach it from that perspective.
either way, memorable answer, and thats what you want to do, more important than anything else, stand out, be more memorable than everyone else
I generally don't have a problem doing that 😄
It's forty eight hours to wan show
and 216 hours til next week's show
It's 365 days til next year's show
minecraft
hi hi
little question
is the microphone of the corsair virtuosu rgb wireless xt having a good quality or is it equal to my 5 year old no name headset?
Gday all, been a viewer since the show began many moons ago, thought i would join up say hi and see if i can help/get help when its needed.
Enabling and disabling the viewing pane
hi
Be relentless in the pursuit of your true self.
Glad you found the fix! And if I may encourage you - always share the fix, no matter how stupid you might feel or how complicated the fix. 🙂
What is true self?
what are going on
https://p2pr.me/166843491363724be1ee3e4 pls join with my link
nice, my microcenter released them today
they have a few in stock for $1200, debating on snagging one
I got my TUF near enough msrp but comparing prices here in the UK they’re upwards to 1600…
So I snatched a great product
It went out of stock in 3-4 minutes
I got so lucky
Nice, where'd you buy it off of?
does dbrand do discounts?
shortlinus discount
but there's cheaper vinyl wrap for laptops and such
you can buy a whole roll of carbon fiber for the same price
then cut it out for your phone, laptop etc
https://twitter.com/donie/status/1592859900941852674?s=46&t=qL7MvbGTbgzjHQqOxT5Ssw <<< as somebody who has been a professional developer for 20 years now... i would tell elon to suck my dick, take the 3 months pay, and leave for literally any other job i could find...
I saw the email off r/antiwork
the 3 months though seems excessive like he wants people to leave
the 3 months is to try and avoid being sued
they pay the devs like 8k a month minimum
what he doesnt realise is, a lot of places outside of the USA have things called "employment law" that doesnt suck donkey balls... and in places like germany and the uk, where many of these people work... this is super super illegal to do
they got like 11k employees, idk why you need 11k for a website that doesn't push consistent updates
youtube has a ton because of analytics
how do i use it
even if you take the 3 months severance and leave, you can sue for unfair dismissal, and you will win, and will be instantly awarded an amount based on how long you previously worked there
check any of the previous sponsored ltt vids by dbrand
usually shortcircuit videos
u know space x and tesla employees sometimes work over time 80hrs a week and since they are on contract, don't get paid for extra work
there was some people in the tesla discord that talked about it
yeah that's just an affiliate link and not one that gives a discount
you can just get a vinyl roll for 20$
and cut it
i work 37.5 hours as a developer, and i can tell you now, that is already too many hours. if i worked somewhere that required me to work that many hours, i wouldnt work there
i mean its 20 dollars for the skin from dbrand itself
and the only device i'd want a skin on is my phone because its not like i can put it on my monitor
well its the same with nasa as there's deadlines too
and people still wanna work there
you can put it on your desk
i have deadlines too, my whole multi-billion-dollar-world-wide company does... but we have managers that respect their employees and owners that respect their employees, and laws that respect employees too... so... yeah
they are long rolls
and. people work at NASA to get NASA on their CV ready for the jobs they want after NASA
people at twitter work at twitter to get a major social media platform on their CV so they can go after the real job they want
twitter just seems like an easy job
same for any place like that, you go there to get the company name on your CV, because it makes it easier to get something you want more
the entire site stays the same
damn bro, it is impossible to find aquacomputer's flow sensors.
13900HX is rumored to have 24 cores and boost to 5.3 ghz 👀
shit wrong channel my bad
Those are some fighting words,
Google is just a site that matches up keywords with words on websites
at its core, yes it is, but for both sites, doing it at scale is the hard part
BAN HIM
/s
google has analytics which is the majority of their dev roles
Haha funni omg i losing my breath raight nauw frum laughing omg omg
Akira
Hi

the edge is here
lmao my ass off hahahaha

damn time flies.. almost 3 years since my high end pc build
and i havnt been active here at LTT in almost a year
Well, was it fun?
I saw what you first posted, you can't stop meh
Yes omg omg so funni
yeah apex grind
even brought with me 20 cans of pepsi

back when i was getting parts for my 2020 pc build was unusual
instead of paying with card as normal, I pulled out my fat wallet with bills in it
that's what my mum handed me instead..
True gamer. Fuck water
and I still have that unusual graphics card from nvidia laying around as souvenir for some reason
Is it possible to test a gpu that needs a 6/8pin connector without it to see if the gpu works?
To truly test if the gpu works you'll need full power to it
Ok
You have to be a booster, twitch sub or floatplane sub to post images here
used to until they changed it
This was the unusual card I was talking about
Four dies???
4 Gb vram each
totaling of 16 gb
only thing i tested was firing up 4 vm and did some small gaming it ran 50-60 fps on gta V
a licence for proper grid setup nah
too expensive
4 instances of gta on 1 card
1 card appears as 4 cards
I've got a non-grid m40
the Tesla M40?
Ye
will prob get one for fun lol
They're cheap
Gotta get a cooling system tho
Thankfully it just uses a 980ti reference board so there are coolers for it
tesla m40 is cool
and slap that into my Dell R720 rack
I thought about buying one just for shits and giggles
prob endup for budget ML and hashcat for my study
can anyone help me over in #networking asking nicely pls and ty
an MI25 will dunk on an M40 for ML workloads, for a similar price
MI25 has +4GB of vram (130%), about +150GB/s (150%) of memory bandwidth, +5.5TFLOP FP32 (180%), +555GFLOP (350%) FP64, and has fp16 at all when compared to the M40,
Been 3 weeks since ordering ltt merch to UK, no emails and no package.
What gpu is future proofed?
4090 🤣🤣
budget gpu
a gpu that can can still run games til the next 5 years
Depends on what games at what resolution
ive had a 1070 since it came out and it still performs 100-160 fps at 1080p high]
The gt 710 is future proofed in the way that it will be able to play some games in 10 years
I talked my sister into letting me build her a itx desktop instead of getting her a laptop, she doest have room for a traditional desktop setup though so she'll likely be using a TV as her monitor with wireless M&k would a 3060ti be better suited for this over a 6700xt since the 30 series has access to dlss 2.0 and everyone uses 4k TVs nowadays?
Is there a long wait time for tech support I have a problem and no response yet just wondering
the wait time is as long as it takes someone to reply, nobody is paid to help there
or anywhere here
What Is your opinion on the Google ecosystem
I'm planning to move into it slowly when I have the money to
Google ecosystem is great when they aren't killing services left and right
https://killedbygoogle.com/ only 275
I think it was an enterprise service, not the same as Google Drive Forms
But when you look up stuff for it it only talks about google forms
you just suck at reading/searching don't you
Worse than Microsoft, but easier to use across multiple platforms. The best choice for anybody who is using it in a personal settings as opposed to professional/enterprise
But like they said, don't keep anything you care a ton about in their systems, especially more fringe ones
I keep all notes/information in OneNote, Excel, and Access because I have no idea when Keep, Tasks, etc. will get nuked
Well tasks can be replaced by calendar
I switched to it and it's better for me on android as it creates an alert with an alarm
They're the same program, Tasks is just an interface
But if you create stuff in Tasks and they remove tasks, since they're stored on Tasks instead of Calendar, the link will just be broken
onedrive offers a much better desktop client so I just use that
google drive tries to pretend it's removable storage
does not work well
Hello darkness my old friend
We've actually ran into this at work. Various files just don't show up at all, and the only solution is to sign out, sign back in, and redownload everything
Google Drive is only good if you work in browser exclusively
Hello!
💀
The m1/2s are amazing just not the Intel ones
The shitty company
The shitty operating system
The shitty keyboards
The shitty chargers
The shitty compatibility
The shitty pricing
The....it goes on for a while.
^^^
I use Google drive desktop and it works basically like that. i can edit my projects in vs code or whatever app i need to use
The keyboard feels nice ash I love the operation system
Windows feels shit to me idk why
Probably because you value pretty over power...that's most Mac users
I have a m2 MacBook
It feels so fast
i use Windows all the time
and yep it sucks
There's your keyword
It "feels" so fast
It is fast actually
@stoic beacon let people have nice things
Only for programs specifically optimized for it
the m2 processor is fantastic if you dont need wide software support
It’s probably the fastest laptop on the market rn
Only for programs specifically optimized for it
Which is most mac apps
Which is less than 1% of software in existence.
All I use it for is like YouTube and discord that’s it
anything multithreaded will be stomped on by the M1 pro/max
Oh, so you meant to buy a Chromebook
I don’t even game because it’s a time waster
I use the m2 MacBook for work purposes too
That's what they're good for, assuming the software you need is actually available on a Mac
if playing games (not online multiplayer only) is wasting time then reading books is also wasting time
It kinda is Ngl
