#dedicated-servers
1 messages ยท Page 200 of 1
all explained on the page of the screen above
However, i am not sure if this is internal or an external tool is powering it, but the server has automatic restarts ? Sometimes during the day, i get messages directly in the game saying "server will restart in xx minutes"
it shows that a few times as the time goes down until it finally does so
30, 15, 10, 5, 2, then restart
The server intrinsically restarts itself every 24 hours of uptime
is it possible to start the server with a .bat file?
where do i put it?
the batch file? whereever you want to, but if it's not going to be in the same directory as the one the server comes with be sure to add cd commands to it to make sure the working directory is correct
there is but i would need to close the server to check to see if there is an update then reopen it
Steamcmd can update while the server is running, then just restart after the update command finishes. That's how mine works and it's only offline for a couple of minutes while restarting.
AH okay perfect i usually get errors when i try to update while its running
That's honestly surprising. Knowing how Windows usually deals with file handles I'd have expected no end of problems.
Is dedicaced servers still an experimental only Feature?
the Dedicated Server is available for both the main release branch and Experimental now, but they are still in a state which ought to be considered somewhat experimental.
they're pretty stable but there are some oddball issues that pop up from time to time
I already have a Server running, how do I choose if it runs on experimental branch or not?
who knows how to setup the dedicated servers because me and my friends cant figure it out
anyone else have an ATT Fiber router/modem? Had success setting up port forwarding?
by default it will be on the Early Access branch; you have to go out of your way to get onto Experimental. Directions are on the Wiki.
happy to help if the instructions on the Wiki are insufficient; just let us know where you get stymied
Oh it's already Updated for that, thanks !
yep, I updated the Wiki about 10 minutes after the update went live (:
With steamcmd, anyone get the same warning
oh wait does that mean just have the +force_.... before +login anon
yep. it's just a warning, not an error; they might require that order in a later release for some reason. who knows why valve does anything it does anymore (:
You still troubleshooting in here? Damn ๐ฎ
anybody else getting these error on experimental build steamcmd

most warning errors i see are with "log", can these all be resolved on Win
I see those log entries periodically but they don't seem to be affecting performance on my server. I don't think they're much to worry about, and are probably there as debug output to help CSS find places to nip and tuck when they get around to optimization
Can confirm having the same exact "errors" on startup. Can be safely ignored!

Do dedicated Servers not have a Session ID?
They do not
How do you join one?
by putting the server's address into the Server Manager in the game client
Gotcha, thank you.
certainly
where is the server address located?
er, in the network interface of the host running the software, but I would suspect the question you are wanting to ask is "how do I determine my server's address?". Would that be a correct surmise?
yeah you guessed it
If so: the easiest way to find a computer's public IP address is to in a web browser on that host, go to a site such as ipchicken dot com and it will display your public IP address in large, friendly, blue digits.
Good evening, everyone. Has anyone run into an issue when they run FactoryServer.exe, it runs for a moment and then crashes?
generally not unless there's already an instance of the server running.
the logs should help you determine why it might be dying
It's not showing me any logs or anything. It never actually seems to start.
well, let's start from the beginning (:
Windows or Linux server?
Thanks for the help!
I'm currently running Windows.
Are you acquiring the server from the GUI Steam client library, or via SteamCMD?
I used SteamCMD.
okay, perfect. What was the install directory you chose when you used SteamCMD to fetch the server?
I just did everything on a folder on my desktop. I followed a video.
Trying to get a server running.
- Am not behind CGNat
- Opened Ports 7777, 15000, 15777 on my router and forwarded to my pc.
- Rule in firewall created for the software itself.
Connecting from outside the network does not work and port checker shows port is closed.
You know what, after playing with it, restarting and such, now it seems to start but it's running into an error, NAT Detection Failed, unable to resolve host.
that is actually a warning and not a critical error that prevents the server from running. I have the same message in my server's log
did you forward the ports on TCP, or UDP? (the correct answer should be UDP)
UDP
what OS?
can you real quickly double-check the LAN IP address of the host running the server, and that the port forwarding settings are routing traffic to that internal IP?
This is the error that I get.
I did.
Windows 10
There is also no ServerSettings.ini file in the ini file folder.
those are innocuous warnings and can also be ignored
I also restart the server whenever I change something in my router.
Okay, cool. Does it just take a really long time to load the server? Or does this mean that it's finished? Sorry, I know you're helping multiple people, I really appreciate your assistance.
(they're basically complaining about not being able to start the Epic overlay)
I think by the time you see those messages, you should be able to fire up the game client and connect to the server.
that file is not written to disk until the server has successfully been started and gracefully shut down.
interesting one. seems something's up with my client? worth reinstalling?
I uninstalled mod manager. server firewall is open to necessary ports.
same errors
That is odd, because I started the server, could connect locally and shut it down with the quit command in the console.
did you actually instantiate a game world/session, or just start the server, claim it, and shut it down?
I logged into the world, could harvest some materials and shut it down
you have your server as a static IP on your modem? did you get a new external IP during a modem reboot or license expire?
I just now started the server. Modem did not restart in the last 15 minutes.
Setting up extra firewall rules to see if that fixes it.
All set up properly.
looks good there
and that looks good too
I can connect to other servers hosted on my pc too. Just tried.
That is, I can connect from outside my network, to within my network.
Now it's working. Odd
Is there a way to check to see if anyone is connected to the server?
must be sunspot season. glad it's working even if we do not know why
Probably some mix of needing to wait and firewall ports
yes: either in the Server Manager, or if you are also in game, Esc -> Manage Session
Sorry Iโm meaning in steamcmd
All SteamCMD is, is a command-line Steam client. The only connection it has to Satisfactory is that it can be used to download it. Once SF is downloaded, it's irrelevant (notwithstanding updating the software). Currently the only way to interact with the game server itself is via the game client by way of the Server Manager or, if you're in-game, the Session Manager.
reinstall of my local client allowed me to connect
I have read and followed every step in the official dedicated server page. There is NO "WindowsServer" folder inside FactoryGame\Saved\Config, and no Game.ini (or any ini files). What world did I destroy to deserve this?
You don't edit a config file, you manage everything from the game client.
Getting kicked now
I'm not finding that to be the case according to this page. ** Is it outdated?**
https://satisfactory.fandom.com/wiki/Dedicated_servers#Configuration
"find the Game.ini file in your server's configuration directory (see above), and add this stanza to the top of the file"
Do the servers keep factories running (producing materials) when everyone is offline?
That's a setting. You can decide if you want that or not.
What's the default?
the default is to pause the world when no one is online
The configuration files are not written to disk until the server has successfully been started, a world entered, and the server gracefully shut down
We've been playing in the server for a couple hours before trying to increase the number of players. And yes, everything was saved properly and shutdown completely before trying to edit things.
if shutting the server down gracefully does not cause the files to get written to disk, that is highly unusual, but you can still create the file and it will get read on startup
interesting. how to shut down gracefully? I've only been closing the cmd window. ๐ณ
the most sure way is to connect via the Server Manager and in the Console, issue the quit command
WE LOVE YOU! THANK YOU! IT WORKED!!! โฅ๏ธ
happy to have helped!
nailed it bro, thank you! Totally makes sense too. thx.
anytime
Have some Problems with Blender and Plutonium cells eevery 5 Minuten idle my mashines and i must restart

LogOnline: Warning: OSS: EOSSDK-LogEOSP2P: NAT Detection failed, unable to resolve host
What if it writes to the console like this?
it smells like Port forwarding
And what to do about it?
don't know how you are running i.e. server in your home network / cloud server? But generally look here --> https://satisfactory.fandom.com/wiki/Dedicated_servers under Port forwarding and firewall
these ports have to be open on your server and need to be forwarded in your router
to quickly check if its your router you can always put your machine in a DMZ on the router for a few minutes and retest before figuring out how to specifically forwrad ports on your router
oh hey perfect, I have the same question
same error as the dude up there, NAT Detection failed
did the port forwarding both for my pc (following the wiki page) and my router (following my isp's instructions)
still the same thing
don't forget DMZ is a test I would not leave my machine exposed to the internet permenantly
i'm going to here endorse wolveix's docker container, it worked flawlessly right out of the box, all i had to change from the default docker-compose.yml was the config path and user id and the instructions warn you that you have to do that.
as a retired network engineer, let me also say that i absolutely hate the way home networking appliances have perverted the whole concept of a network dmz
agree mate just an easy test if you havn't figured out how to port foreward on your router yet
that message is a generic unreal engine error
it indicates that unreal engine is unable to resolve the name of the STUN server it uses to do nat detection. check your DNS settings.
Thank you Coffeestainers for the Linux dedicated server. Installation and configuration through the steamcmd and game menus was super easy.
by default unreal uses a Google server, but individual games may override the Epic default and add their own STUN server. dunno if coffee stain does htis.
my own server generates this message as well, but i don't care because our server is in-house only
good to know .. Will have to check have mine with ZAP Hosting
if i were feeling sufficiently engaged, i could restart the server and monitor the network traffic, but that's a lot of effort
haha ... ๐ know the feeling
very basic question
but how do other people connect to a server I set up?
assuming I managed to get it running properly
yup
it took me less than 10 minutes to get a server up when U5 went live, essentially all of that on downloading. easily the easiest dedicated server deployment i've ever done for a game.
contrast, say, valheim, which took me hours to get to work
is nodecraft a good place to get a server
i went with natrado cuz ive used them before
Has valve said anything yet about epic users being about to access steam tools servers?
isnt that hard for first timer like myself
tools was advertised to be easy for first timer like myself
and CMD was hard with hoops to jump through
ya well steam is junk
I loaded a save on the server, and a whole bunch of my foundations were gone
I know I built them, because it's a bridge, and I used that bridge to get somewhere, even brought a tractor with me
if they were a mod item they get removed from the save without mods
or u lost a save or something
I've been playing on experimental for a month
That save was fully on the server, so no mods
I didn't lose the save, because everything I did after building the bridge is still there
Only the bridge isn't
then ur imagining things
bridges dont just walk out of a save on their own
I agree, but this one did
wanna jump on the server to see ?
the only thing that makes sense is save modified itself while u werent paying attention
guess u should love u saves more
pics of things missing means nothing to people
the thing is scim shows the foundations
go to the discord and ask them about it
why ?
Just go check out the screenshots I posted, and explain to me what's happening, sanctum
u got it all screwed up
I have one question. When I load a save to my server and connect to it then everything is normal. However, When I exited and reopened the game, I got disconnected (timed out) when trying to reconnect to the server. If I then load the save to the server then I don't get disconnected. Is this normal?
Great, thx for the explanation, I'm all good now
good thing i was done b4 i told u pics meant nothing
is there a fairly simple way to determine the IP that the server created for itself?
i didn't manually set one (foolish i know)
the server doesn't create an IP, that's the OS's business
server is on that machine not another lol
yes, of whatever you are running the server on
do i need to move the save game file there before i first name the server etc?
it might be a different IP in very weird scenarios (like if you're running in a docker container and have made the docker virtual network visible on your physical network) but usually it'll just be whatever the host IP is
yeah for some reason my brain thought steamcmd would generate a virtual IP, but then i realised there's no backup software to do that
Anyone's dedicated server having issues with pipe floor holes? Like the don't connect sometimes and then when they do, liquid isn't passing through them
i don't have a savedgames server folder yet
is that cause i haven't finished launching it?
they can be pain in the ass to use floor holes
oh, i just discovered through the UI you can do it instead of transferring files in explorer
ooo, this is a slow load, lol i think running the server and the game on the same machine is a baaad idea
is it any simpler to get a separate server host like a cloud server or is that still tough
game only works a little better like that.. ur still doing the same pile of work on that computer
i mean, you can usually hire a VPS for pretty cheap
Sanctum, update : Loaded the same save, on my single player, and foundations are there. The only place they aren't is on the server
a windows VPS is a bit more, so learn linux if you want cheaper
we have a dedicated home server machine, didn't cost that much since it only needs a total potato graphics card
screenshots or it didn't happen
Not posting pics because apparently they're useless
point456 *update captain kirk doesnt give a shit
Right, so I can't ask for help ?
Wait wrong person
i literally have a nvidia gt218 in that machine, and it does just fine
Three screenshots available on #screenshots
Great, I ask for help, and people just tell me to f off. Just great
noone told u to f off
that is fucking weird
just cause u shove pics at someone and bla bla bla bla ... doesnt mean that person cares
You're supposed to help, not care
Yeah, I know
so with dedicated servers i dont have to leave my pc on for days at a time anymore cuz it will just keep running on its own?
Depends where your server is
by default the server pauses when nobody is logged in
But if it's on a separate machine, then yes
also, who turns off a computer?
@whole nacelle i dont work for u or coffeestain so screw that shit
ur dilusional when u start telling people that shit here
@whole nacelle your screenshots still show the 'experimental' blaze, so you're not running U5 anyway
Ok, I just assumed you wanted to help, since you were the first one to answer. You could have just told me you didn't want to help, instead of insulting me
I'm running on the experimental branch, both have U5
Alright lads, I'm going to have to politely ask you to let this go.
and server doesn't work on U4 anyways
got redirected here
question, I've downloaded dedicated servers, and when I attempt to add a server, it's asking for both a port and address, I'm quite a bit confused on how to set that up. so what address is the game looking for in regards to server?
do trains work properly now that we have dedicated servers?
used to play with a friend and that was a major concern of his cos I was the host and only I could touch the trains in any way lol
15777 is the default port, you only need to change it if you changed it when you set up the server
if you're not on the same network, use the public ip address of the machine hosting
the address is the IP address (or host name) of the machie on which the server lives. must be reachable from the client.
ah, so I'd put my computer's IP address if I'm running the server from my own computer, just to make sure I'm not misunderstanding?
i can think of scenarios in which that is incorrect, but i doubt many people set up game servers over point-to-point VPNs. ๐
bogdan hahah ya
yeah - the guests/clients can drive the trains as well as the "host" - that used to cause us trouble too
nice
if you're running on the same computer, use either its (internal) IP address or just localhost (127.0.0.1)
thanks
there was an issue i found where it would make the game disconnect if you were in a vehicle while moving but i'm not sure if they fixed it or whether my server changes made a difference, either way it's been good for a week or two now
note that it's probably not "better" to run a dedicated server on the same computer as a client than it is just to host normally
I just use reflective NAT when I'm at home.
that makes me twitch because it forces a round trip through the NAT device, plus i cut my teeth on PIXes, and PIXes absolutely refused to route a packet out the same interface it came in, there was absolutely no way to make them do that.
My router does it just fine, still 2-3ms
Thank you, and I'm mainly doing this to do a learn by doing kind of thing
i use split DNS for things like that
There is actually some benefit to running a server on the same computer as the one you're playing on: Boosting framerate.
You basically move the heavylifting to another process and your game is basically just a glorified renderer of the game state at that point.
i've had some interesting issues with taking damage "late" on the dedicated server. pioneer continues to take damage after the combat is over, sometimes for two or three seconds.
mostly depends on how many cores and how much memory the host has
Didn't experience anything like that
It does but in some setups is would make a big difference. Worth trying at least once imo.
i haven't seen it happen often enough or consistently enough to characterize it more usefully.
dedi separates the workload of server from the game cpu time
so game can sort of work how it is meant to
i also haven't been paying attention to load figures while playing dedicated, which i suppose i should do
Oh, I did notice that mobs appear like 30 seconds after I reached their location.
But the actual combat feels normal
that i haven't seen, but i have seen some odd spawn delay behaviors rarely
both me and my wife (who is playing on the same server) have had situations where we've killed a thing and even in some cases harvested its drops, then died from damage from nothing we can identify
some of those might have been there being some other hostile that we didn't see, but i also had one where i ended combat with 3 bars health and saw it drop twice after combat was over, and then it stopped and i survived
also, once my wife died, but then undied and continued on without having to respawn (?)
i'm guessing these are server/client desyncs, but i can't explain them
how to start dedicated server
thanks
np its the title of room
i should instrument the container, maybe even keep top running on a secondary monitor
pleased to report that I'm seeing much better distribution of cycles to the various threads after about a half day up uptime:
sure most of the threads are often idle but they're spinning up a lot more now and racking up cycle time more evenly than before
i'm not seeing all that much distribution, PoolThread 0, TaskGraphHP 10, and ServerQuery have the lion's share of the CPU time
well, ok TaskGraphHP 11 is about half of 10, 12 is about half of 11, and 13 is about half of 12, which itself suggests something to me about the scheduling....
0 is about the same as 16, and 1-9 have essentially no CPU time
are there known bugs around trains stuck docking?
check the bug site for updated reports
is there any thing that changed for CMD set up for Public build
thought they fixed that
u might have to redo train or platform/station though
dedi is same to install
hmmm brand new station. weird
Which of these would be best for the server to run on? Intel Xeon Gold 6254 processors, Intel Xeon Platinum 8268 processors or Intel Xeon E-2288G processors
til they splitter server officially
First time setting up a server is a head ache!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
first is hard always
reading so many exclamation marks gives also headaches...
im taking a break when i got to port forwarding
everything upto that was explained well
i was watching MMD's video on it
Quick question.. How do I import/export gamefiles from server?? I just copy and paste the savefile from/to the server's folder?
port forwarding is simple .. router manuals have like 5-6 simple steps for it
or google ur brand/model port fowarding
mhmm
i also got fuck in the asss i think cause when i open windows defender it say my AVG anti virus controls it
hahaha
did you really have to use 456 exclamation marks
LOL
What are these settings in the engine.ini for?
[/Script/OnlineSubsystemUtils.IpNetDriver]
MaxClientRate=300000
MaxInternetClientRate=300000
[/Script/SocketSubsystemEpic.EpicNetDriver]
MaxClientRate=300000
MaxInternetClientRate=300000
if u dont know then dont touch
or just net search and read up on the engine info
you can help or really screw things up messing with that stuff
That is totally...... unhelpful
Try changing FG.NetworkQuality and see if they are modified, perhaps?
That's my only guess, as they're network related
Yeah that has an effect. Already assumed they might be connected. Trying to get my G-Portal server performance up.
Doesn't want to work with me currently... and their support is basiaclly "game needs optimization, we can't help other people have higher tickrate on their mediocre servers and we have sucky performance"
helps to know what ur messing with when ur screwing with teh engine settings of how it works
but hey u do u .. have fun
Then ask what I am trying to do instead.....
Or they could like... provide some better hardware?
Sure we might have some optimization to do but that sounds like a cop out to me.
If they ask for money, then you should get what you're buying.
Yeah agreed
Will try poking them some more to see if I can get more out of them. Otherwise might look into going somehwere else... Just don't have the time to upkeep a server myself ๐ญ
It's really not that bad once you've set it up.
ya just setup a update cmd in the restart process
so u can just exit from server manager to update
only thing that might be bad is if server manager doesnt play nice cause of version mismatch... im not saying it does that .. it might though and if so hopefully they can fix that soon
Yeah, problem is mostly getting the server up and running. To start I don't have the hardware to set it up here so would need to rent one. And haven't found anything that is costwise interesting, so if anyone knows a good place for that
im not sure who is good enough now a days
i would see who though has best comment/reviews for ur region of net though
cause it sucks if u get best company and servers but its routing is bleh
Go by the specs. If you're happy with the price and they seem somewhat reputable then I don't see how you can go wrong with any VPS (or dedicated server) provider. I'd just pick something geographically close.
Yeah agreed, will drive the price from current 10eur to about 50eur though >.<
I'm pretty sure that would be overkill.
We will look into making server setup easier so people can actually feel better about making this choice.
its pretty hefty to run mid/late game so im not surprised
im on a 5600x and i still dip into the 20s
docker or something that is like 1 touch unpack would be so nice if its possible
Cheapest I can find this quick is 30eur for the first 3 months, 60eur after. And that is for
4 dedicated vCPU's
8 GB RAM
200 GB NVMe
10 TB pooled traffi
it will come, sooner or later. It won't solve the problem of NAT (port forwarding) though which is where most people are choking.
i dont know what the fancy thing is now.. used to just rar pack a server package
Is anyone running the server with decent performance on a VPS? Those tend to be cheaper.
Above IS a VPS ๐ฆ
holy shit those are dedicated server prices.
ya bogdan ..but it will help alot still and save alot of time/effort for people .. but not rushing ya's we know it takes time to get it all in place and setup
we appreciate all the work and effort
does anyone has problems with updating experimental server after 5.0 release?
i can update, i can connect
but cant join server
whats happening?
mines running off a docker
yes but im sayin one official from them that can be posted for all to grab on wiki
but like i said not tryin to rush or be a pain ..
i can setup my server just fine i have no problems
Hmm, think I will take the following steps:
- See if G-Portal can do anything for me
- If not, contact Nitrado about their performance and possibly switch to them
- Look further into renting my own server.
i will say
my old contrabo server had decent performance for the price
i dont know bout satisfactory on it
but i used it for other things pretty well
i moved over to a dedi i rent for the community I run
on OVH
so i just use a bit of CPU time for satisfactory ๐
Hmm they have a traffic limit, but other then that they are super cheap
I just found one cheaper here in NL that is still 3 times as expensive as them ๐ฎ
oh in EU i'd look at hetzner
Just for reference I'm running my server on an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, in early late game (no alu yet) and it seems to quite consistently stay at 30 tps. that is, with only one player connected though.
Any way to change or force the server tickrate with a launch param?
wiki page should have all that information -- dedicated server page
yeah once you get to tier 7 or so it starts chugging a bit even on a 5600x
im at 22 avg
with multiple trains
pretty par for the course though, feels nice and smooth
I am at tier 7 just net far into it. But 22 tps is really not that bad.
When I am far away from my main factories the tps is a stable 14, which is not unplayable, but does cause some annoying lag issues
I'd start to worry if it goes below 10 tps a lot.
im starting my mega factory this weekend
we'll see how that goes ๐
had to setup all the train routes and the dropoff hubs
Near my main location, which is not a mega factory mind you, it' consistently <10
None about the tickrate sadly
I've seen servers at 80, while mine is capped at 30
that is on the wiki
Check the pins.
someone added that before i dont know where though.. but ya bogdan knows
That response!!!! "If this were a hardware problem, there would be a lot more players. But in this case it's you. Therefore, we assume that the problem is caused by the game." ๐ญ
tell them jsut cause 1 person calls u an idiot doesnt mean ur really smart .. refund my money
Meh, server expires tommorow. Won't extend that obviously
ahhh hehe ya
thats nuts for support .. think they would be like let us look into the engine stuff and see what we can do
even if its bs its better way
Does anyone know which paid server hosts are using the actual dedicated server feature?
I know they were all using pseudo servers where they ran the game client and had a "player" in the game before
The exprimental and early access branches are now the same? Would it work to move the savegame and switch my dedicated server to early access and continue it there?
I'd prefer to use the actual dedicated server feature because it has options like whether to pause the game when there's no players online.
I usually use Creeperhost, Nitrado, etc. for other games
dedi already setup will be ea servers
unless u changed hte install line for incoming beta exp changes
Nitrado has real dedicated servers nowadays. I just sent them a ticket in hoped to get an idea what their performance is.
Avoid G-Portal!
I'm personally using a GAME-2 variant from SoYouStart, haven't encountered any issues so far.
hey guys.. i just set up a server.. can anyone try if they can join?
dm me info
this is my routers UI
what port should i use, and what do i put for destination IP
Bogdan .. in server manager for ADD IP could the mask be defaulted to off so we can see what we type please please ๐
i kinda liked the default mask
how to join dedicated server ?
It's supposed to be like that for people that stream. Default on the more secure state.
Does anyone know when the official standalone image for docker comes out, as mentioned bij Jace at 2:50 in the state of dedicated servers video?
ahhh ok that makes sense .. but still makes me sad lol
sucks for us cause streamers arent smart i get it
hehe
So just started a new game on the server, and set tickrate on max 120 because testing. And I am averaging 120 tickrate.
And on the old save with 0 people connected it's like this:
There's a lot of factory there that explains the slow down.
Well, I don't THINK there is a lot :/ Unless someone created a big factory somewhere I have not seen...
Okay... looking at the interactive map... Seems like more has been build then I thought ๐ฎ
So, what has more impact on the tickrate, one overclocked building, or 2.5 normal?
I may be mistaken since that's not my area of expertise but I think 2.5 normal will have a higher impact.
Yeah looking at ImKibitz let's play I also suspect that.
SO I guess for future development -> ingredients that use the least buildings possible and overclock where possible
GOD DAMN MY BRAIN IS HURTING AGAIN
setting up a server is BS
ahhhhhhhhhhh
NAT Dectection failed, unable to resolve host
what does this mean and how to i fix
its a warning keep going
how? it just stops
at what?
running server ends at 2 warnings
then u load game and go in server manager and add it to check
ok notice it says WARNING
those are just a warning not an actual error where stuff stops
okay
just so u know for future
ty
Server appears to be offline
is it same computer or on lan or net
same PC
use localhost or 127.0.0.1
one or other might not work for u
depending on security settings on ur stuff
So, shot myself to the otherside of the map.... Truck drives properly now ๐ฅณ
you're a god
Hi there, short question - where can I find my Logfiles of the Server under Debian if its running as a systemd-Service - I didn't find a hint in the Wiki (or I totally missed it)
Well almost properly
or does the "linux implicit uses -log to window" mean, no Files
try the install folder for server or where the saves go .. in a folder outside the saves
nope, unfortunately not
the Saves-path is /home/satisfactory/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved in my case, there I can only find the Savegames
wiki page for dedicaed servers should have the info
nope, it has not - there's only the Info about the Start-parameter "-log" which forces the Server to show the Logs in Terminal - which is implicit in linux - but no Logfiles-Path or Logs
how do i get my friend to join?
where to i get the internet ip for server
AHH.. found them !! -> /home/satisfactory/SatisfactoryDedicatedServer/FactoryGame/Saved/Logs
Android 3.0 - how do you connect to your Server ?
localhost
who still has problems with the trains. these jerks when driving .... the server is not even under half load ...
Uh.. Oh.. ok... so, the Server is running on your Local PC - then you can use some page like "whatsmyip.org"
this will show your internet-IP of your Router - but you have to forward the Ports in your Router to your PC
so i would have to set up a static lease
this depends on your Router - some Models can handle this with the internal HostName, but yes, statical Lease would be more Secure and the good way to do that
secure in terms of "will work everytime"
do i give them my static IP now or my IPv6?
there is a bug that if i dismantle something, after removal, the orange hightlight stays
one on the net that goes to server that u forwarded ports for
they are a friend so just give them 1 and if not then the other
shot that is desyncing
server/game/net isnt keeping up
Does nitrado dedi servers only work on expiramental for now?
next Question - what Value the Average TickRate should have ?
Uh.. yea.. missed the pinned messages.. thanks for the hint !
goes he join via
join game
or
server manager
ty
What Tier are you in game?
okey so i got one question hoping someone can help me out. I'm was trying to start the server first time and i get it stuck on this in the linux terminal
[2021.11.24-12.04.09:856][ 1]LogOnline: Warning: OSS: EOSSDK-LogEOSP2P: NAT Detection failed, unable to resolve host
[2021.11.24-12.04.10:325][ 15]LogOnline: Warning: OSS: EOSSDK-LogEOSAnalytics: EOS SDK Analytics disabled for route [1].
[2021.11.24-12.04.10:692][ 26]LogOnline: Warning: OSS: EOSSDK-LogEOSEcom: Purchase flow is disabled due to overlay setup failure (EOS_NotConfigured).
is this a port forwarding problem? or am i looking somewhere else to fix this?
last Tier (8)
Then it just might be "normal". I get the same at that Tier
Ok, fine
okey so it should be live then?
but u might have defender or something blocking some of hte game's net access
should be
then I need more CPU-Power ๐
he couldnt join via IPv6 nor static lease
Now, I still think it should be possible to have it higher, but G-Portal is not really helpful with their support.
okey thanks!! imma try connecting next
I'm having the same log lines as @silver dagger, server doesnt appear online though?
lol
oh, I needed to restart my game client apparently
No. For example, my dedicated server is setup on a container managed via ร Proxmox 7 server. Before I've this messages too, but with this args, it works perfectly (I used a LinuxGSM setup) :
startparameters="FactoryGame -ServerQueryPort=${queryport} -BeaconPort=${beaconport} -Port=${port} -log -unattended -multihome=0.0.0.0
With this last argument, -multihome=0.0.0.0, your server force to use IPv4 and disable IPv6. For me and my friends, the connection can be established after that ๐
Have i understood right that if i don't add beta pranch into server launch. The old Experimental pranch will default to public pranch. So i don't neet to change enythign on my server and when next update hits my server is at public pranch?
Nice, Ty @slim spoke
@frosty gale thanks! ill try that if it doesn't work! for now i seem to be able to connect!
@slim spoke and @frosty gale thanks for the clarification!
cheers hope ya'll have fun
ill do my best ๐
anyone else have the bug where they can't press V to open train automation?
annoying the hell out of me, and so far only happened in dedis
logging back onto the server fixes it though
sometimes multiple times
pain
and it usually stops working after like 30 minutes anyways
Is a known issue (at least, it has been an issue for a while)
check bug site
hey all, I tried googling around and searching this channel but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know if there is a way to automatically load the newest save file when starting the server for an existing world? Currently after we turn on the server the admin has to go and load the latest save before others can join
check the wiki page for udpated info
yeah, I did. I saw this bit, but that's for manually loading a save https://satisfactory.fandom.com/wiki/Dedicated_servers#Loading_a_save_file
the wiki has the stuff we can do
Is it possible to run different saves on a third party hosted server?
I dont have any saves to put on there, was curious if I used the create game option while a game is currently running, if it would wipe the previous one.
no
okay, cool. thanks
That currently is the only option.
ahh dang, appreciate the help
I can't get the train loaded with more than 2 fluid containers. The 3rd and 4th platforms are not loaded on the train. Have already reset the station and also the train, but unfortunately nothing helps. Can it be that not more than 2 liquid containers work on a train?
are the icons on the freight platform cranes lit?
No, platform 3 and 4 are "dark". But why is platform 1 and 2 working correctly. Is there something I must do additionally?
Have you tried rebuilding platform 2?
I have had the same issue earlier and what worked for me was to rebuild the last working platform, seems there is an issue with stuff connecting in dedi that affects everything that can be connected, conveyors, pipelines, tracks you name it, it has issues.
if they aren't lit they aren't built properly
rebuild them
lit means powered and operational
II tried but it is not working :-(. If I rebuild the whole station it only lits plattform 1 and 2. If I replace the 2nd it stays also dark.
could try downloading the save and building the station in singleplayer
ok I will try
Hello, can somebody help us? Our Server has pretty good Hardware, but the Server is still running really porly. Machines and Storage containers sometimes dont accept Items from Belts and running around is getting worse and worse because you keep bugging back.
I've the same problem sometimes. During Experimental, it seems to be a graphical bug of Satisfactory client, probably an incorrect refresh of items. I fix this by remove and re-add belts. It works like a charm (normally
)
dedi server?
Any news on when we get DS to Epic?
yeah
The problem occurs all the time, sometimes items go in instantly, sometimes every single items waits 5 seconds on the bell before going into a splitter, merger, a machine or a storage box
what is the hardware?
let's just double check that and not gloss over it ๐
and is the server doing anything else other than hosting the gameserver?
@timid slate @tame solar I have build it locally and uploaded to the dedicated server. Now it is working. Thanks for your help and hope they will fix it soon
We got a Linux V-Server with 6 Cores of a Intel Xeon E5-2680 v3 (6) @ 1.999GHz
- 16GbB of RAM
No the Server isn't doing anything else right now.
If you look up the "taskmanager" you can see that only one core is maxed out
We are having the same issue on windows. Splitter, merger and containers sometimes waiting 5 seconds before an item from the belt is processed.
It was working fine at the beginning but the more that is built, the slower it gets.
Question:
Friend is running a dedicated server. Others seem to be able to connect to it just fine. When I attempt to do so, I can see his server, I can see that I'm not authenticated, and then when I attempt to authenticate, I type in the password and then get... nothing.
soooo, i just got teleported over the skybox... is this a thing with dedicated servers or?
OK. Have u a huge factory(ies) on your map? It can be simples lags. Sometimes, in my main factory, located at Dunes biome, belts and these items are not display, or like you, have some lag to go in splitters, mergers, machines too.
i literally just climbed to the top of the hub while the cargo drone wasnยดt there
It#S not just that they dont get displayed, they literally wont go into the machine even when they are one the belt right before it
+the machine is empty
Strange bug ๐ค
seems to be a desync, drone is there now and i didnยดt have a timer to begin with
just respawned and got my items back
Unfortunately it is not possible to make my fabric efficient with these outages. I hope they can fit it
you shouldnยดt need to put in a password to connect to the server
the first tab should just have connect in the lower left corner
the other tabs are only for the server admin and thus require a password
anyone else had an issue where a friends connection timed out to the dedicated server even though the world was created, and the ports were forwarded?
I am having the same problem
some good news at my house, I was able to get a replacement hard drive for my server over night and replaced the dead drive yesterday and as of this morning the RAID successfully rebuilt #winning
has it worked previously or is this the first time you are setting it up
hi fellas! im trying to set up a DS but i cant set the ip (Steam)
it says 0.0.0.0:15777
ok?
in the console
thats all IPs on the machine
That means itโs bound to ALL IPs on that machine
so, unless you NEED to bind it to a specific IP, if you have multiple NICs in the machine, should be fine
If you DO need to bind it to a specific IP address for a specific NIC, thereโs info on how to do that in the Wiki
itโs a command-line argument
allrighty ๐
and can a friend of mine join the server if he is on epic?
yes
Yes. Servers are client agnostic
POGGERS-moment
any epic support for dedicated yet?
they work with the epic client now
Just make sure you have forwarded your ports. ๐
nice
or are you asking if you can get the server via epic
!wikisearch dedicated servers
server via epic
you can only get the server via steam/steamcmd
that has how to install servers
Currently the servers are ONLY available via Steam
or SteamCMD
grumble
use steamcmd
You donโt need a steam account to install from SteamCMD
the info in in the wiki page above
yeah its fine, you dont need a steam account
I have a steam account ust I bought into Satisfactory the first day it hit Epic so kinda where I been lol
okayโฆ and?
the server works with epic clients
is a known bug that I cant open the vehicle menu?
hmm ok
go there
steamcmd is just host for the dedi files
u dont login into it... its anonymous
if it didnt work with epic clients I woudlnt be able to use it haha
gotcha
โGame clients from both the Epic and Steam game stores can connect and play on dedicated servers regardless of where the Dedicated Server was downloaded.โ. literally the third sentence from the wiki page Summary section.
cheers guys ๐
I havent seen this specifically but I havent had vehicles in a few patches
so...
maybe
its frustrating.. the vehicles are basically useless
check the bug site
windows or linux server?
Check the QA site, and if there isnโt a report of the issue yet, please submit one so the devs can get it looked at
Ok
I still remember back in the early days of non-dedi multiplayer having all the trucks my wife and I had disappear like Thanos snapped his finger
that was fun
XD
load up the map and start walking around and be like
This is obviously some definition of the word โfunโ with which I was previously unfamiliar withโฆ. ๐
I have a dedicated server that works fine if I turn off the Windows firewall.
I have 15777, 15000 & 7777 UDP forwarded and there are no other rules that conflict.
Any ideas?
you need to open those ports in the windows firewall @lilac juniper there is a powershell command to run on the wiki
port forwarding on your router wont help if the ports are blocked on the windows firewall
OK, I'll give it a try. I did see that. Thanks
Ok. So something is obviously up with my ability to connect to this server. I've had multiple friends try and they're all able to connect without an issue.
I just get a "could not connect to server" warning when I try. The server is based here in my home city, and a friend over 2k miles away connected without an issue.
So it's not the server; that feels like a me thing.
I would tend to agree.
Do you host it locally?
(non sarcastically)
He says itโs based in his home city, so I would guess not?
defender or some software is blocking your game
^ It's not my server. It's a friend's on a completely different network.
sounds like ISP/firewall of some sort
Yeh; I'll check firewall and see if I can give it a pass.
o/ fellow server type people
something must be filtering your traffic outbound which is unusual but not unheard of
or a bad route to the server.
Powershell command seemed to work for me.
Know it sounds dumb but assume he's tried to verify he's files?
Never dumb to start with basics. ๐
@dull bronze do you know if single player works ok?
I'm on epic. Single player works fine.
gotcha
Honestly it's just my go to it's crazy amount it just makes stuff work
So its looking like I am connecting to the server. However I am unable to connect to the game itself?
ur screen seems to be wrong shape
doesn't this mean you need to enter a client password?
ya
click authenticate
My firewall is turned off, i've restarted the router. What is preventing me from connecting to dedicated servers?
@terse stag are u hosting this server urself, or via a hosting company?
hosting company
what's the name of the company?
zap-hosting
other people can connect no problem to the server
your end is probably blocking the game exe
defender or windows firewall or av or something
its all off
try pinging the server, see if u can even do that.
how would I go about doing that?
WIN+R > cmd > ping IP
so if ur ip was 1.2.3.4, u would do ping 1.2.3.4
also feel free to share the IP with me via a PM, so i can check that it even does ping ๐
okay so it does ping.
so it should for you tooooo
I can connect
any servers to join?
I just dont join the game. conenction always drop out
#looking-for-group-old @kindred venture
ah, okay
is it a new save, or a large factory save?
@kindred venture yeah can you see if you can join mine we are trying to determine if it is my friend having an issue or if it is the server
I dm'd you
anyone notice that RAM use has changed since the most recent release? I'm seeing the server's memory use constantly growing over time, which is not the case previously.
plz ensure u put the info in a PM, as it's agains the rules to share IP's in public channels. rather u not get in trouble ๐
also @terse stag have u set FG.NetworkQuality 3 in the servers console?
assuming u can connect to the server via thet server manager at least ^
also ensure Ultra is set on ur client too
tell someone to move the hub away from all the other stuff
^ this can help too on large factories
its a new save
I have tried and failed to get the network connection to hook up to any computer but my own... what's a good place to rent server space that won't break the bank?
was that at me?
u read my mind
haha
same error
did u wanna try connecting to my server, to see if that works...
that will at least say if it's a problem ur end, or something else.
lol oops forgot to start my server last night after booting the server
was going to check that mem situation @severe badge mentioned
but kinda hard to do that if its not running
I mean, that would be a pretty serious bug if it was STILL using memory while not running...
we'll just say that you were checking for that condition ๐
well I was replacing a drive last night and I dont have the dedi start automatically because it and another game server I have installed used some of the same ports so I just start them manually when I want them
but yeah completely forgot to start it
I'm on a 4th gen I7, 32GB of RAM (Satisfactory only ever uses 4GB - is there a way to give it more?) and seem to have pretty steady 30
I'd be curious to see what happens when another players joins
BTW, to explain the flat part starting at 4:00 in my graph, at 4:00AM the server stops for a full backup, and then starts again.
According to my recent experience, it seems to take more all for itself!
are those stats IRIX mode or non-IRIX mode? Curious whether it's consuming 4% total or 4% of a core.
(capital I in top changes between them)
Been running my server for 10 days, didn't know about this one. Can I put it in an INI so it persists between restarts?
IRIX on
Ok ppl.. what the hell is going on. This server has been laggy from day one but today the lag is friggin INSANE
debian top seems to default to IRIX mode on
Cool, we'll see what happens in 30m-60m
Statts from my i7 4790k/32GB/SSD
I'm at tier 8/9? I think but my factory isn't very big yet
I keep rubber banding, trains wont move right, I cant change items in my hand without having to wait 10 years
Check the pinned messages. thereโs info about it
nice ty
What's the tick rate of the server? you can check from the server management menu from inside the game
@lime elm restart the server and client and lower your settings in game.. server/game/net isnt keeping up
Which settings might have an effect? I'd be surprised if it were the graphical ones
Does anyone have the problemn, that adding a freight terminal doesn't do anything when trying to load?
two are being loaded but not the 3rd one I've added
If you shove it in your servers console, it'll save as long as you shutdown the server gracefully to your gameusersettings.ini :)
Graceful shutdown = issuing stop/restart command from service manager thing (I'm on ubuntu and it installed it as a systemd service)
?
both that and what CubGeek mentioned should be graceful enough
You should see the gameusersettings.ini update with the new value inside mFloatValues or something like that.
K cool. I've used Linux since kernel 2.0.30 so I'm fairly technical and yet I don't see wtf CubGEek is talking about, I see no restart command in the Server Manager
Issuing a systemctl stop satisfactory command wonโt necessarily shutdown the server software gracefully.
Type quit in
This
bugger all, 10 ish. ive tried setting it to 30 or 60 manualy with no change.
Yeah that was precisely what I was concerned about
oh shit, really? My bad
It looks like it shuts it down gracefully but having some knowledge about those things - some of them just wait 30seconds for things to cleanup then killall <processname>
Open your satisfactory game client. Then go to Server manager and select your server, then go to the console tab. then enter the quit command in THAT console window
the server, its net and my pc and net are more than powerful and fast enough it should keep up fine
SIGTERM which sysstemd should use with the example unit file does do a graceful shutdown
The Linux server software seems to gracefully shutdown via a sigterm now I think.
Ahhhh. thatโs a nice change. TIL.
it has since about the second or third patch IIRC
Only on Linux however as far as I know bud.
Ok cool. I always Save before I restart so worst case I manually load my manual save
it was just confusing because graceful shutdowns still threw segfaults for a while
and thatโs all we really care about, right?
that's setting the MAX tick rate.
Haha, docker ftw.
Docker is honestly overkill for something like this
DopeGhoti: I think it is and it isn't. It's a great turnkey solution for a lot of folks
and adds needless complexity when the person setting it up doesn't know basic NAT
I used the linuxgsm thing for valheim
Yeah, but I use pter.
OK that's true - re needless complexity
stares at my 3 Docker containers of satisfactory servers
@lime elm then inis or something must be messed up ... cause its not working how it should so it cant keep up and rubberbands
@eager condor you should really automate the production of those ... (hah)
I have :D
mutters in Ansible
for efficiency. MAKE FICSIT PROUD OF YOU! DO IT
LOL I debated spinning up an Openstack all-in-one single node cluster for my local game servers
Pterodactyl ftw. Created the eggs for it ๐
Then decided "That's unnecessary"
actually..
This, I love pterodactyl, it's not the most streamlined thing to setup, but it's good.
Yussss
I wonder if there is a Ansible modules for steamcmd? I know there is one for systemd, and then I could write up a "deploy me a server" Ansible playbook
ohhhh nice thought
DopeGhoti: Oh I'm sure there are. You can always use the shell stuff, too. To me, the concern is less about getting the dedicated sever installed/running and more all the port forwarding/etc required to get it accessible.
I'd bet that's where most folks stumble
Stuff like LinuxGSM makes the other half of it nearly idiot proof
NAT is probably the 70th percentile of the issues we address here, true
big issue is everyone using diff stuff and half the time they dont say they are
Thoughts on linuxgsm vs pterodactyl? I'm using linuxgsm, and have found it helpful so far
I haven't used Linuxgsm but pterodactyl is nice and simple
I explain NAT as "It's like floor holes for Pipes/Conveyors. You're putting a hole in that passes through a wall."
Haven't used pterodactyl but from the sonds of it, it and linuxgsm seem roughly equal effort-wise
I just wish I could wave a magic want and make everyone who says some form of "it doesn't work" with no further elaboration get bopped on the nose with a spoon
lol
router is bouncer .. it should only allow in who u put on the list ๐
I don't want to hurt them, I just want to get their attention and for them to remember
Pterodactyl is much easier now it hit v1 as the install scripts are official. 0.7 was hella rough
Wrong, router is Gandalf ๐
hence the spoonbop and not a paddlin'. That's for repeated infractions.
Or is thay just me haha
sorry i dont qualify for that level of nerd
I noted how LinuxGSM makes extensive use of git. I thought that was a cool idea bc 1) releasing new versions becomes a matter of git tag - that's cool and 2) SUPER flexible
git is gud.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThTwl1HrFi4
Computer says noooooo
:snrk:
hehe! I go with all โBabylon 5โ names for my network devices and machines (router is โJumpgateโ, media/homebridge server is โDockingBayโ, etc)
I work for a subsidiary of one of the larger mobile phone vendors worldwide (top 5, probably top 3) - we make networking gizmos - and you'd be amazed how often we get reports like that with email signatures saying CCIE/etc.
I used to name my computers and devices creatively like that.. then I started naming by function or attribute, but I stopped bothering when I noticed I had hosts around my house called speedy, nolongerspeedy, formerlynolongerspeedy, and barelyspeedyenoughtobeafileserver
lol
Haha I love it
I still want to stab ICANN in the face for allowing registrars to start selling .lan as a top level domain though; I was using that internally and liked it
Yeahhhhh, that confuses me as I know stuff like pi-hole append .lan onto stuff by default if set as the dns server
I always used .local and .tld
NONONO never use .local
Fix'd: Yeah I stopped doing that a few years back
Mmmmm exchange with .local is weeks from hell
.gloryhole
Oh yeah the whole reason I opened discord was to search "tick rate" and see what the implications were
i just use .home, because im boring lol
.local is what mDNS (bonjour, zeroconf) use
I joined the server to see if I can lend a hand on server specs for people got sucked into this convo so more than one of us got side tracked haha
My tick rate is 30 so I think I'm good
I thought it was in 20s yesterday when we had >1 player
ye 30 is max, by default
ONE OF US. DRINK THE KOOL-AIDโฆ. DRINK IT!!!
each player connected quite dramatically hits the tickrate.
Let me get chugging haha
.internal is (one of) the official IETF/IANA backed private-local-use TLD
I have a couple public domains so I use local.domain for my internal stuffs... makes life easy because then I reflect any public things to be x.domain and then x.local.domain is for inside the network
I don't see why not to register an actual domain, and then use split-DNS
How do you check the tick rate? As I use the forbidden contabo servers for servers between my friends and I so I assume it won't be great haha
effort.
see pins
..... I should of known better haha
should have (:
that is some primo pedantry
words have meanings, okay (: That's why many system admins are pedants. specificity is important in our line of work
Just like the phrase "it will be fiiiiine"
Oh I know, and agree. That's why I found it tasty
Hi, is it possible to mod servers ? ๐
theoretically, but there is no official support as of yet
and I have not heard of any modders announcing releases of mods for dedicated servers yet
Okay thanks ๐
o/
please for the love of god make train docking cancelable ๐
Speaking of docking, I'd love to be able to recouple/recouple train cars, but that's a topic for another channel so I'll stop typing about it now
muahaha, now you know what it feels like! ๐
at least I knew I was digressing (:
i have a sever running on my pterodactyl panel
i have the ports 7777 15000 & 15777 open witch port can people connect to when thay add the server
i opend the ports in the router
i opend the ports in the panel
fixed firewall
localy i can connect when i try to use the external ip it fails to connect
what did i miss
(ports in and out are the same & only run 1 game so no crossover)
so to clarify: others can connect but you cannot?
i can connect
I swore someone just posted a link about how to update max tick rate in INI and despite repeated searches I can't find the blasted thing
but others cant
pins.
start working through these troubleshooting steps, one by one. https://satisfactory.fandom.com/wiki/Dedicated_servers#Configuration_issues
I might update that server doc with a link to that
not sure how editable that wiki is
I plan to add it to the config files wiki page soon. but you're welcome to beat me to it; you just need to register for a free account and anyone can help!
Right on, I dig that community spirit
Lol, server tickrate just randomly dropped by 10 while noone is on the server -_-
I'd guess the tick rate is heavily influenced by IO and the like
rip someone said it was patched or something yeasterday but its still not working i cant unload the stuff ๐ฆ
There were no saves happening
Fun fact though! Currently you can join a Experimental server with Early access
oh yeah cuz they're the same version hahah
Not into 10 land, dropped from 38 to 26 and stayed there
the Q & A is for running it on windows or linux i am running it in pterodactyl
120 but G-Portal s*cks and wont help me see if we can improve it so I am switcing as soon as nitrado is up. Going to see if they are better and if not look into selfhosting
I almost went with a provider but the Satisfactory ded servers being immature as they are, I Wanted a little more control
and I have 1GB symmetric at my house
Or maybe I will put on some baby doll eyes to work, maybe they have an unused server laying around
Having someone else worry about backups/security/etc is worth the $ in most cases
internet connection ?
Yeah
me 2 ๐
Question!
ConfiguredInternetSpeed=300000
ConfiguredLanSpeed=340000
My client is on the same switch as my dedicated server
but my friends are across the interweb
I have no option to run a server at home sadly, so will have to rent regardless. But at least having access to the software can be useful if needed.
First I'll check out Nitrado, have good experiences with them in the past
- How does Satisfactory know which to use? "If the connected client is in the same subnet as the interface we're listening on?"
- I think I want them as close as possible to prevent weirdness
for dedicated servers whats max players?

Don't modify the bandwidth numbers in the .ini they'll get overwritten
is there any plans for optimization to reduce lag? , does anyone have tips to avoid lag ?
If you want to change that, see the wiki
Should a person expect to see different values reflected in the .INI files?
"Different values" I expected the FG.NetworkQuality one to change, should I expect those others to change with it when I change Netquality?
those get overridden with NetworkQuality
it takes priority and when set, the other values are ignored
Yes, because the UE has values for LAN play and INET play different. Itโs part of the engine itself. A holdover from the early days of cable modems and such.
Oooooo yeah
Likely with your personal connection, speed so high, you wonโt notice a massive difference.
K cool. Thank you for answering my qs. I try not to ask obvious qs but appreciate your patience when I do.
but, when I was running a UT99/2003/2004 server out of my apartment on my cable modem or sDSL, I absolutely NEEDED those different speed settings ๐
Yeah I could see things being wonky if I have microsecond ping timnes to the servers while other clients have millisecond times
Yep. Possibly less so with Satis, since youโre not worrying about hit-scan weapons or capturing the flag or controlling the points, but I would not be surprised if it may cause some issues with conveyors and vehicles and such with different client speeds

What's up with that?

Evening all, With dedicated servers, is there a seprate server setup for the Epic version so mods can be used
I see stuff like that all the time, but havenโt found a cause, personally, and also havenโt seen, personally, that itโs been causing problems.
no.
https://satisfactory.fandom.com/wiki/Dedicated_servers
the dedicated servers are ONLY available at this time from the Steam or SteamCMD option.
read the Summary section.
so my guess is no mods will work with a headless steam version?
No mods in the dedicated servers, regardless of source.
If i am adding the Server the game is showing "Server name pending". Someone know how to fix it?
you have to connect to the server through the in-game server manager menu, then set it up with game name, session name, admin password, etc.
ok cheers for clearing that up.
Not yet. But as far as I know that is just because no mods work for U5 yet, has nothing to do with it being a server
As stated in the wiki, you donโt need a Steam account to install via the SteamCMD, so you can still install the DediServer package and run it, then connect via your Epic version of the game client. The server software itself is gamestore agnostic and doesnโt care where you got your client from.
Even the patchnotes seem to suggest that mods are not impossible for servers:
"Made FGAbstractServerWidget public for modders"
Correct. Itโll likely be possible. The UE is designed to be moddable. Just Satisfactory hasnโt had dedicated servers prior, so the modding community is behind on making something that works only Server-Side.
I doubled my tick rate (had to remove the write permission from the ini file to get it to stick) - gonna see how it works out
Keep in mind that making ini files read-only can screw up updates and such that may need to update the files.
Does the game run 2x the speed when you double the tick rate?
Yeah i know but when i type in the ip it shows that the server is offline but he is not
Yeah I've been geeking for a while - I wrote a script to do/undo it and wrapped it into my update process

โheโ? Servers are non-binary. :D. They prefer โitโ, as their pronouns. ๐
-
is the server on your local network, or is it on a remote server?
so im not as experienced with it so what would be the advantages of using a linux server over a windows server? less OS overhead?
itโs cooler.
๐
shush, Dope
I see you typin

dope a linux head i assume
if you aint experienced try mess around with it if you cant get it working just use a windows server ๐
Oh sry i am no native speaker xD. I am hosting at nitrado
less OS overhead and the fact that the OS is built for running servers, so you don't have the extra steps of "wait, now I have this extra window open; what do I do with it?"
sudo service DopeGhoti stop
nadrojis not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.
