I haven't used windows in 10 years

clear frigate
#

However, i am not sure if this is internal or an external tool is powering it, but the server has automatic restarts ? Sometimes during the day, i get messages directly in the game saying "server will restart in xx minutes"

#

it shows that a few times as the time goes down until it finally does so

#

30, 15, 10, 5, 2, then restart

quick mist
#

The server intrinsically restarts itself every 24 hours of uptime

burnt ravine
#

is it possible to start the server with a .bat file?

fervent crow
#

yes.

#

it should - a bat is just terminal commands

burnt ravine
#

where do i put it?

quick mist
#

the batch file? whereever you want to, but if it's not going to be in the same directory as the one the server comes with be sure to add cd commands to it to make sure the working directory is correct

raw cove
#

there is but i would need to close the server to check to see if there is an update then reopen it

cinder wind

AH okay perfect i usually get errors when i try to update while its running

Is dedicaced servers still an experimental only Feature?

quick mist

the Dedicated Server is available for both the main release branch and Experimental now, but they are still in a state which ought to be considered somewhat experimental.

they're pretty stable but there are some oddball issues that pop up from time to time

With steamcmd, anyone get the same warning

yep. it's just a warning, not an error; they might require that order in a later release for some reason. who knows why valve does anything it does anymore (:

most warning errors i see are with "log", can these all be resolved on Win

quick mist
#

I see those log entries periodically but they don't seem to be affecting performance on my server. I don't think they're much to worry about, and are probably there as debug output to help CSS find places to nip and tuck when they get around to optimization

Do dedicated Servers not have a Session ID?

quick mist
#

They do not

mortal hemlock

How do you join one?

mortal hemlock
#

Gotcha, thank you.

quick mist

certainly

radiant turret
quick mist

er, in the network interface of the host running the software, but I would suspect the question you are wanting to ask is "how do I determine my server's address?". Would that be a correct surmise?

radiant turret
#

yeah you guessed it

quick mist
#

If so: the easiest way to find a computer's public IP address is to in a web browser on that host, go to a site such as ipchicken dot com and it will display your public IP address in large, friendly, blue digits.

#

Good evening, everyone. Has anyone run into an issue when they run FactoryServer.exe, it runs for a moment and then crashes?

quick mist
#

generally not unless there's already an instance of the server running.

the logs should help you determine why it might be dying

fossil falcon

It's not showing me any logs or anything. It never actually seems to start.

quick mist

well, let's start from the beginning (:

Windows or Linux server?

fossil falcon
#

Thanks for the help!

I'm currently running Windows.

quick mist
#

Are you acquiring the server from the GUI Steam client library, or via SteamCMD?

fossil falcon
#

I used SteamCMD.

quick mist

okay, perfect. What was the install directory you chose when you used SteamCMD to fetch the server?

fossil falcon

I just did everything on a folder on my desktop. I followed a video.

Trying to get a server running.

  1. Am not behind CGNat
  2. Opened Ports 7777, 15000, 15777 on my router and forwarded to my pc.
  3. Rule in firewall created for the software itself.

Connecting from outside the network does not work and port checker shows port is closed.

fossil falcon

You know what, after playing with it, restarting and such, now it seems to start but it's running into an error, NAT Detection Failed, unable to resolve host.

# raw cove Sorry Iโ€™m meaning in steamcmd

All SteamCMD is, is a command-line Steam client. The only connection it has to Satisfactory is that it can be used to download it. Once SF is downloaded, it's irrelevant (notwithstanding updating the software). Currently the only way to interact with the game server itself is via the game client by way of the Server Manager or, if you're in-game, the Session Manager.

solid forge
#

these ports have to be open on your server and need to be forwarded in your router

#

to quickly check if its your router you can always put your machine in a DMZ on the router for a few minutes and retest before figuring out how to specifically forwrad ports on your router

devout thistle
#

oh hey perfect, I have the same question

#

same error as the dude up there, NAT Detection failed

#

did the port forwarding both for my pc (following the wiki page) and my router (following my isp's instructions)

#

still the same thing

solid forge
#

don't forget DMZ is a test I would not leave my machine exposed to the internet permenantly

keen vortex
#

i'm going to here endorse wolveix's docker container, it worked flawlessly right out of the box, all i had to change from the default docker-compose.yml was the config path and user id and the instructions warn you that you have to do that.

https://github.com/wolveix/satisfactory-server

#

as a retired network engineer, let me also say that i absolutely hate the way home networking appliances have perverted the whole concept of a network dmz

solid forge
#

agree mate just an easy test if you havn't figured out how to port foreward on your router yet

keen vortex
#

that message is a generic unreal engine error

#

it indicates that unreal engine is unable to resolve the name of the STUN server it uses to do nat detection. check your DNS settings.

#

Thank you Coffeestainers for the Linux dedicated server. Installation and configuration through the steamcmd and game menus was super easy.

keen vortex
#

by default unreal uses a Google server, but individual games may override the Epic default and add their own STUN server. dunno if coffee stain does htis.

#

my own server generates this message as well, but i don't care because our server is in-house only

solid forge
keen vortex

I have one question. When I load a save to my server and connect to it then everything is normal. Is this normal?

use net tools for os

keen vortex

the server doesn't create an IP, that's the OS's business

do i need to move the save game file there before i first name the server etc?

keen vortex

it might be a different IP in very weird scenarios (like if you're running in a docker container and have made the docker virtual network visible on your physical network) but usually it'll just be whatever the host IP is

stuck drum
#

yeah for some reason my brain thought steamcmd would generate a virtual IP, but then i realised there's no backup software to do that

steamcmd just puts server on comp for u

there was an issue i found where it would make the game disconnect if you were in a vehicle while moving but i'm not sure if they fixed it or whether my server changes made a difference, either way it's been good for a week or two now

keen vortex
#

note that it's probably not "better" to run a dedicated server on the same computer as a client than it is just to host normally

frail tree
keen vortex
# frail tree I just use reflective NAT when I'm at home.

that makes me twitch because it forces a round trip through the NAT device, plus i cut my teeth on PIXes, and PIXes absolutely refused to route a packet out the same interface it came in, there was absolutely no way to make them do that.

frail tree
#

My router does it just fine, still 2-3ms

stiff dirge
keen vortex
#

i use split DNS for things like that

rose valley
#

There is actually some benefit to running a server on the same computer as the one you're playing on: Boosting framerate.

#

You basically move the heavylifting to another process and your game is basically just a glorified renderer of the game state at that point.

keen vortex
#

i've had some interesting issues with taking damage "late" on the dedicated server. pioneer continues to take damage after the combat is over, sometimes for two or three seconds.

keen vortex
frail tree
#

Didn't experience anything like that

rose valley
#

It does but in some setups is would make a big difference. Worth trying at least once imo.

keen vortex
#

i haven't seen it happen often enough or consistently enough to characterize it more usefully.

slim spoke
#

dedi separates the workload of server from the game cpu time

#

so game can sort of work how it is meant to

keen vortex
#

i also haven't been paying attention to load figures while playing dedicated, which i suppose i should do

frail tree
#

But the actual combat feels normal

keen vortex
#

both me and my wife (who is playing on the same server) have had situations where we've killed a thing and even in some cases harvested its drops, then died from damage from nothing we can identify

#

some of those might have been there being some other hostile that we didn't see, but i also had one where i ended combat with 3 bars health and saw it drop twice after combat was over, and then it stopped and i survived

#

also, once my wife died, but then undied and continued on without having to respawn (?)

#

i'm guessing these are server/client desyncs, but i can't explain them

Yeah, problem is mostly getting the server up and running. To start I don't have the hardware to set it up here so would need to rent one. And haven't found anything that is costwise interesting, so if anyone knows a good place for that

im not sure who is good enough now a days

i would see who though has best comment/reviews for ur region of net though

rose valley
#

Go by the specs. If you're happy with the price and they seem somewhat reputable then I don't see how you can go wrong with any VPS (or dedicated server) provider. I'd just pick something geographically close.

timid slate
#

Yeah agreed, will drive the price from current 10eur to about 50eur though >.<

rose valley
#

I'm pretty sure that would be overkill.

#

We will look into making server setup easier so people can actually feel better about making this choice.

copper lily
#

im on a 5600x and i still dip into the 20s

slim spoke
#

docker or something that is like 1 touch unpack would be so nice if its possible

timid slate
#

Cheapest I can find this quick is 30eur for the first 3 months, 60eur after. And that is for

4 dedicated vCPU's
8 GB RAM
200 GB NVMe
10 TB pooled traffi
rose valley

it will come, sooner or later. It won't solve the problem of NAT (port forwarding) though which is where most people are choking.

  1. See if G-Portal can do anything for me
  2. If not, contact Nitrado about their performance and possibly switch to them
  3. Look further into renting my own server.
copper lily

i will say

my old contrabo server had decent performance for the price

#

i dont know bout satisfactory on it

but i used it for other things pretty well

i moved over to a dedi i rent for the community I run

so i just use a bit of CPU time for satisfactory ๐Ÿ˜†

And on the old save with 0 people connected it's like this:

rose valley

There's a lot of factory there that explains the slow down.

timid slate
#

Well, I don't THINK there is a lot :/ Unless someone created a big factory somewhere I have not seen...

Okay... looking at the interactive map... Seems like more has been build then I thought ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

So, what has more impact on the tickrate, one overclocked building, or 2.5 normal?

rose valley

I may be mistaken since that's not my area of expertise but I think 2.5 normal will have a higher impact.

No. For example, my dedicated server is setup on a container managed via ร  Proxmox 7 server. Before I've this messages too, but with this args, it works perfectly (I used a LinuxGSM setup) :

startparameters="FactoryGame -ServerQueryPort=${queryport} -BeaconPort=${beaconport} -Port=${port} -log -unattended -multihome=0.0.0.0

With this last argument, -multihome=0.0.0.0, your server force to use IPv4 and disable IPv6. For me and my friends, the connection can be established after that ๐Ÿ˜‰

As stated in the wiki, you donโ€™t need a Steam account to install via the SteamCMD, so you can still install the DediServer package and run it, then connect via your Epic version of the game client. The server software itself is gamestore agnostic and doesnโ€™t care where you got your client from.
