What version is the dedicated server supposed to be? I have the latest experimental game client and just installed the dedicated server but it says the versions don't match

I initially installed via steamcmd, had that version issue, then I instaled via the steam client, but when launching from steam client it showed the path was from steamcmd, not sure if that should have been the case when not using steamcmd but I tried completely removing the directory from steamcmd and installing again via the steam client. Will see if that works.

Seemed like when the steamcmd version was installed then launching from the steam client would still launch that version. Even though I tried to update the steamcmd version previously, with the same command I used to download it, it must not have really updated.
How many player can join dedicated server? Is it limited to 4 as well?

I had that problem with my linux server last night, and turned out that I hadn’t set up the firewall/ip tables/etc to route traffic properly. user error

I am having trouble getting my server to go outside of LAN. I can access it from my home, but not outside... any help with port forwarding and firewall?

Yep. Ubuntu headless 20.04 LTS. Using SteamCMD. The server’s up, waiting for connections, and shows in the Windows Steam game’s server manager as waiting for set up. I attempt to connect to set it up (map, save game name, server name, etc) and get a time out error.

hostnames work fine, check that the record is accurate and that it's not also resolving to an IPv6 address

i get that issue sometimes usualy just readding the searver to the server manager fixes it, otherwise it could be a port forwarding issue or a firewall issue

I just resolved this after a few days of trying.. I created a Game.ini config file on the server and added [/Script/OnlineSubsystemUtils.OnlineBeacon]
BeaconConnectionInitialTimeout=5.0
BeaconConnectionTimeout=45.0
did this on the client pc as well using engine.ini
(ps this was the default value, I changed the first value from 5 to 15)

That might be a Windows thing. If a process has a console window then Windows will freeze your process if a text selection is made in the console until the selection is cleared. A little annoying at times. Does that sound like what you experienced?

Were there any other dialogs open or anything? Were you running with -unattended? I'd strongly recommend that to anyone on Windows.

Ah btw @rose valley - there's an issue where the process can sit there and stall if you run it headless but the required C++ runtime is missing. It just sits there like a lemon.

@rose valley no, it literally produces zero output of any kind. Process just sits there. In an interactive session it tries to install the C++ runtime. Headless just sits there.

I haven't checked what happens if you use the old 'runs in an interactive desktop' mode for a headless process but I don't think this is supported in newer versions of Windows any more
Do you know off hand which runtime version is required?
You can just try to follow the instructions in the wiki to begin with. Understanding the entire process is not necessarily required but some understanding helps. However, you can come back here with specific questions when you get stuck and I'm sure these nice people would be more than happy to help you out.

I recommend joining the current game on the server and load the save from the pause menu (pause -> Load ). Cumbersome but more reliable.

It only works if the save file has been copied to it's supposed location ( Saved/SaveGames/server )

can someone help me setting up the dedicated server on Debian? I just got a Hetzner VPS and I'm going crazy - even installing steamcmd via apt-get doesn't make it available to run (command not found) and when starting steamcmd via /usr/lib/games/steam/steamcmd, I get an error related to steamconsole.so
if it's an amd64 arch you'll need to also install the 32-bit compatibility libraries.

To setup a server, do you need to login with your steam everytime the server restarts or only once?
You don't if you for example will use steamcmd
you never need to log into Steam to start a server
PowerShell command to open the default UDP ports on Windows:
New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "Allow Satisfactory default inbound ports" -Direction Inbound -Action Allow -EdgeTraversalPolicy Allow -Protocol UDP -LocalPort 15000,15777,7777
This means that i just need to copy-paste the Game.ini and add that line?

on Linux, look in $HOME/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server
For some reason I dont have that as a directory but I have an idea of what to look for so ill try that

it seems that (for now) if you don't own SF on Steam the server doesn't show up in Tools like it should. CSS is working with Valve both on this and getting the server into the EGS

I don't know anything about Nitrado but you don't add the server to the Steam server browser. Fire up Satisfactory, go to Server Manger -> Add Server and punch in the server's address there

Here's a fun twist - the Linux and Windows versions of the server have different CPU requirements in terms of the required instruction set
so you can run the server on an A8-3850 on Windows, but not Linux

- Insert the Session Name from step 1 into the server settings tab in Server Manager, press ↵ Enter. The server should initiate a search for the save file with the matching Session Name.

there's a bug where it clears the text you type in there rather quickly. workaround is to paste the name and quickly press Enter

After creating a game I can see the option to load the save I transferred but when I do I get this error

when you load a game, the server has to shut down and restart with the new game file. that will break the connection. When you log back in the newly loaded game should be up and running

to switch saved games, in the Server Manager go to Server Settings and put in the Session Name for the save you want to load. you will get booted and when you reconnect the save will be loaded

you need to pause your server if it changes back to the session name before..uncheck the little checkbox under it which is saying something with 'pause the game if no one is on the server'
Join the server and leave it after it. Then you are able to change the name of the session...had the same problem

Hi everyone, this has been asked several times but I haven't seen a fix for it yet. I'm running a server for a maximum of 10 users. The MaxPlayers variable in game.ini is set to 10, but when a fifth player attempts to join the server, they get the error "Server is Full". Is there a workaround for this?

Read the server output where exactly? In a console? Where would I find that?
I've already searched how to increase the player limit. You edit the value in the game.ini file on the server.

Yeah, @hushed pilot. Starting a dedicated server is a pretty technical process. The easiest way is to have your server hosted by another company like zap-hosting. They do all the work for you, and all you need to do is log in. But it costs a monthly fee.
If you have a spare computer on-hand and want to host a server locally, you can skip the monthly cost but you're gonna need someone to hold your hand through the process of opening ports and installing everything necessary from that wiki. Sorry I can't be of more help than that.

Dedicated Servers are good if you have a group of players who want to play together, but won't all be online at the same time. But if you want to experience multiplayer and you can stand to log in at certain times to play together, you might be better off hosting a multiplayer session instead.

When you close out of Satisfactory, the session will close, and your friends won't be able to continue to play. But it's MUCH easier and cheaper to set up then a dedicated server.
Reworked my log monitor's messages for players joining/leaving a bit and recently did some refactoring of the code so it's not as difficult to find and fix bugs. Still not ready for public release yet, but getting closer to a point I'd feel comfortable sharing the code.

And I believe there are a few log messages related to the same things that are shown in the status on the manager. I haven't yet implemented them though.
@frosty gale, the "Address" of your server is what tells a player's game where your server is located. Typically today these are IP addresses, and are accompanied by a Port Number. Think of an "Address" like the address of an apartment building, and the Port Number is the Apartment Unit.
Unfortunately steam query doesn’t work. Sucks. It’s an easy process.
So when your friend is connecting to your server, they might be using an IP address - that typically looks like this: 123.456.789.101. And they also supply a port number that looks like this: 7777. They need both to be able to connect properly.

Deleting that software won't allow you to "make a new one"
You need to configure the software so you can start a new server.
Configuration includes things like: What port does the server run on. And "What save does the server load when it starts"

You don't really "Delete a server". You either delete the save data that the server is using, or you re-configure the server information so that people connect on a different port or a different IP address.
So I tried to launch the dedicated server again and the console still says this

There’s instructions on the wiki for increasing the limit for regular multiplayer. It also works for dedi servers
You need to look up your home router's instruction manual, and find out how to do "Port Forwarding"
Every router can do it.
But we can't help you because every router is different.
This is where you need to use Google, and find this information yourself.

I put the game.ini file into the satisfactory-experimental/Saved/Config/WindowsServer directory yes. I didn't "make" a folder. It was already made.

But forwarding ports and connecting via IP for dedicated servers has always been this complicated. For like...the past 30 years really.

But yes, Windows Firewall can interfere with server issues.
I'd recommend, if you trust your players, to shut down Windows Defender for the time being and test it.
And if that works, you can set up a "bypass" in Defender to allow traffic through that application and port.
port forwarding is literally tell it what port(or range 7777-7787) the ip to send it to... and set UDP for port type and apply

So in testing the Linux dedicated server did anyone have issues with say picking up grass but it still being there?

just ordered my vserver, i am trying cheap version first with 8gb ram for 1 month, if it sucks i will upgrade to more ram. TBH like i always say, for me its more fun to set it up than actually playing in the end
